Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Dear Fellow UNC-Wilmington Professor:

I want to take a few minutes to thank you for sharing your views on abortion while I was urinating in the men’s restroom at our place of employment. I didn’t mind learning that your support for abortion is predicated on your belief that every child in America has a “constitutional right to be loved.” But I did mind that you tapped me on the shoulder to get my attention while I was facing in the other direction with my pants unzipped. Try your best to keep your hands off me the next time you see me in a public restroom unless, of course, you plan to run for the United States Senate.

Naturally, by the time I zipped up my trousers I began to contemplate your rationale for keeping abortion legal in America. I quickly fell in love with your method of expanding the number of rights guaranteed by our Constitution. Since you shared your “strong feeling” that all children have a constitutional right to be loved, I thought I would take a moment to share my strong feelings in the hope that these feelings will somehow be elevated to constitutional status despite the fact that they don’t actually appear in the Constitution:

• I strongly feel like I have a right to be free from funding a public education system that tries to advance an agenda diametrically opposed to my most cherished religious beliefs.

• I strongly feel like I have a right to walk across campus without seeing a feminist from the Women’s Resource Center showing students how to put a condom on a cucumber. (I can’t imagine why that silly feminist thought her cucumber could get her pregnant. Or maybe she thought it was pleasuring another feminist behind her back).

• I strongly feel like I have a right to buy gas for less than two dollars per gallon.

• I strongly feel like I have a right to be loved by Jessica Alba.

• I strongly feel like I have a right to be free from seeing women dressed in mini-skirts while (they are, not I am) wearing snow boots.

• I strongly feel like I have a right to free health care paid for by the citizens of France. They wouldn’t still be speaking French if it weren’t for Americans so I figure they owe us one. (Author’s note: I also reserve the right to use double negatives or to not use them if I don’t feel like it).

• I strongly feel like I have a right to have illegal aliens work in my yard free of charge on weekends. It’s the least they can do for wasting so much of my time by making it hard to find a parking space at Home Depot.

• I strongly feel like I have a right to urinate in a public restroom without having you touch me on the shoulder.

Unfortunately, the list of things I would emote into the Constitution (if given the chance) fails to capture the total absurdity of your argument. Give me a few more lines to try and catch up.

I strongly feel that whenever my constitutional rights are violated, someone should die. For example:

• The Governor of North Carolina should be killed if he does not immediately sign an executive order fulfilling my strong desire to be free from supporting the pitiful public education system of this state.

• The next feminist from the Women’s Resource Center I see instructing students on how to put a condom on a cucumber should be killed.

• President Bush should be killed because his “War for Oil” has failed to bring gas prices below two dollars per gallon (note to Secret Service: THIS IS A SATIRE). • Jessica Alba should be killed for not loving me.

• All women dressed in mini-skirts and wearing snow boots should be killed. • We should kill the citizens of France for failing to provide me with free health care.

• Illegal aliens unwilling to work in my yard free of charge on weekends should be killed.

• You should be killed for touching me on the shoulder in a public restroom.

But of course, learned full professor, I still have not matched the absurdity of your pro-choice argument. To this point, I have made the more rational argument that the person who has violated a constitutional right should be punished by being killed. Your position, of course, is even more absurd. You argue that the person whose constitutional right has been violated should be killed. Hence, I propose the following in an effort to reach (down to) your level of intellectual (un)sophistication:

• The governor should order that I be killed immediately if the governor does not sign an executive order fulfilling my strong desire to be free from supporting the pitiful public education system of this state.

• I should be killed by a feminist the next time I see a feminist from the Women’s Resource Center showing students how to put a condom on a cucumber.

• President Bush should order that I be killed because the “War for Oil” has failed to bring gas prices below two dollars per gallon.

• I should be killed by Jessica Alba because Jessica Alba does not love me.

• I should be killed by a woman dressed in a mini-skirt and snow boots the next time I see a woman dressed in a mini-skirt and snow boots.

• I should be killed by the citizens of France because they failed to provide me with free health care (and, not to mention, maternal love).

• Illegal aliens should kill me because they are unwilling to inconvenience themselves by working in my yard free of charge on weekends – an inconvenience not quite on par with a lifetime commitment to parenthood.

• You should kill me because you touched me on the shoulder in a public restroom in violation of my constitutional rights.

Many of my readers are wondering how a tenured professor could accrue a level of intellectual arrogance severe enough to produce a belief that he may, a) invent constitutional rights, b) enforce them via the death penalty, c) remedy the constitutional violation by the murder of the person (note: the professor admitted that the fetus was a “child”) whose rights were violated, and d) allow the killing to actually be ordered by the perpetrator.

Fortunately for my readers, I will address the origins of such arrogance in my next column. I strongly feel like I have a right for you to read it. If you choose not to, feel free to kill me.

Quick note
You forgot to mention that the feminists from the WRC show students how to put condoms on a cucumber in plain view of a group of young children(4th or 5th grade) that are taking a tour on the campus. Then, when questioned about why they don't cover up their display when the young children start to point, they say that their display isn't inappropriate because they didn't "plan on young children coming by."

Should Someone...
...kill him- or herself if he doesn't like what he is thinking? or saying? or doing?

Shouldn't all those self-loathers out there just do away with themselves so they don't have to live with loathing?

Abortion is Murder
Murder is against the law. Anyone who has an abortion or aids in an abortion should be locked up for Murder.

In some cases Murder is ok. For example if somebody breaks into my house I have a right to use deadly force. If a baby is going to kill the mother then once again, there is a situation that requires deadly force.

The fact that there is even a debate about if it is ok to Murder children is horrible. And to think of how up in arms people get as Muslims go around beating or murdering their wives yet we pretend to be a civilized nation as we murder our own children!

Another outstanding article
Yet again Professor Adams gets to the root of the fuzzy thinking of the left. Not much could be added to this one.

Adams
is the best at crushing liberal PC wackiness by reducing their arguments to the absurd. There is even a Latin phrase for it, something like reductio ad absurdum. My favorite example of using it is when someone comes out in favor of raising the minimum wage. I suggest raising it to $50/hour, so we all could be rich. But it works on just about any liberal stance.

Be loved or die!
Yes it is ironic that the Leftie Losers want to prove their desire for children to be loved by killing those who aren't.

As I have said often, I don't recall when being unloved is a capital offense, though there were times when I felt unloved and wanted to die.

However, the fact that a mother does not want her baby demonstrates a lacking within herself rather than something wrong with the baby. Why should the child be executed for the failure of the parent?

And finally, the truth is that THERE ARE NO UNWANTED BABIES. There is a black market for babies. Unscrupulous mommies hold auctions to see which weatlhy couple will get their child when it is born. Barren women flip out and steal babies. Baby sitters steal babies. One woman wanted a baby so badly, she even killed a woman to cut her baby out of her womb and take it for her own.

The real motivation behind the rabid pro-aborts is their commitment to population control. All the bumper sticker slogans and euphamisms they invent does not make their cause anything but barbaric.

Another cultural degradation heard from
Yesterday, CBS aired "Cold Case" about the murder of a 15-year-old girl who is debased by her classmates for being sexually active. The girl herself is not happy with her life. Of course, she is killed by students of religious faith who had formed an abstinence-pledge club--the club leader is, naturally, a sexually repressed minister.

The only liberal belief not included in the story was no one had an abortion.

Next week, the same drivel will come out of the Amish community.

When Burlington High School in NJ had a terorist attack practice, they were assaulted by Christians, and not Muslim extremist.

Write CBS and tell it programing like "Cold Case" is offensive and insulting.

Cruel and Unusual Punishment
I am up early, listening to Bill Bennett as I work on my freelance. The news comes on, telling us that the Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case to determine if Lethal Injection is cruel and unusual punishment for a convicted murderer.

I can't help thinking of the tiny babies in the womb who are ripped apart with an industrial strength vaccuum cleaner without the courtesy of anesthetic.

If these babies had any life experience, they would probably prefer the lethal injection to the current technique, which I can't help but believe is cruel and unusual.

But no one is taking their cases to the Supreme Court. Their mommies are the ones who are paying to have them brutally slaughtered.

Only those of us who know better can speak for them, and we should not let the censorship by the left stop us.

Meanwhile, the ACLU prefers to stand up for murderers.

Hilary and her solution
Hillary claims that she will pay each woman $5,000 per baby as a prize to be invested (like Social Security, one assumes, with an IOU) for the kiddie to spend when he or she reaches voting age.

What I am wondering is if this is enacted, will it make babies more loved? They are now a cash crop in some communities, you see, especially among those who have no idea that a one-time cash payment does not mean you get to dispose of the baby immediately after the check clears. What happens to all these bonus babies when the mothers realize that (1) the money cannot be accessed by Mom for a trip to Cancun; and (2) the baby will cost her 5,000% more than that before it reaches the age of 18?

Those who believe, truly believe, that a baby has a right to be loved will either keep their panties on or will use birth control. The rest of them, well, they believe that getting pregnant is the kind of inconvenience you get, like heartburn at a dim sum, that medicine can cure.

Mike, great satire, Rose, perfect!
Rose, that is the perfect retort to anyone supporting abortion, "it is barbaric and no justification of yours will change that fact!"

Hillary's solution
We already have welfare mothers pumping out babies so they can sit at home and draw their monthly check. Can Hillary's solution possibly do anything but worsen that situation? No. It will only make it worse, as some of these doofusses think of how much crack they can buy with $5,ooo.

Yes, I know that's not what the money is for, but food stamps aren't for buying crack, and I've seen some of the cleverness exhibited by uneducated and'unemployable' people when it comes to converting food stamps to cash for drugs. You can bet your a$$ that many will figure out a way to game the system any time 'free' money is involved.

renny
Who pays attention to the Communist Broadcast System anyway?

Abortion is legal
Murder is illegal homicide. Get a grip folks. A salient adult has more rights than a fetus.

Who is going to pay for the food, shelter, clothing, and devote the time needed to care for the child. You! Nope, you are against welfare, food stamps, etc. We do not need another angry, unwanted child in our society.

To aspacia
So should we go ahead and kill anybody in our society that is homeless and hungry?

kill the poor, aspacia?
Did you really say that? If the child will be poor we should kill him now?

Better off dead than poor?

And you said it in response to a columnist who is adopting a child?

renny
Most of the t.v. dramas that I have routinely enjoyed in the past have turned into nothing but political commentary for the liberal left. (Law and Order, Cold Case, Without a Trace) to name just a few. I'm getting so I can't even stand to turn on the television. I think it is so sad that television technology keeps getting better and bettter while the programing keeps getting worse and worse.

The next time investors want to improve television technology they would do better to put their money into better programing. What's the point of having the best t.v. in the world if there is nothing fit to watch!??

Aw, Mike, you lost me...
...with the Jessica Alba bit. I think that's disrespectful to your wife.

kill femnists?
Imagine for a moment that you are a government employee. You are a special kind of government employee: you get to keep your job for life, no matter what you do. You have to show up at the job for 6 or maybe 9 hours a week instead of the regular 40. You only have to do that for 28 weeks a year. The rest of the time you get to do whatever you want. There is no oversight, no accountability. Now imagine that you make a decent salary for this "work." Let's pick a number at random--let's say $59,536/year (before taxes and withholdings). Of course that number will go up due to cost-of-living increases. Let's ignore those increases to make this calculation simpler. Let's also say you're a white male in your early 40s--42 or so. You're healthy, you have a long life expectancy, and who knows--you may want to go on in this job for another 35 years or so, even though you hate your employers and your colleagues! Ostensibly, you have been hired because you were trained to do a certain type of work. But over the last decade you published three pieces, written with other people, not by yourself. The sum total pages you've published in your field is minimal. There is no oversight, so if you decide you want to stop doing research altogether and simply harangue your employer, and write about topics on which you have no expertise, that's up to you!

For those of you following along at home, the math is something like this: it will cost the taxpayers of North Carolina at least (though certainly more!) than $2,083,760 (not including cost of living increases and health and other benefits) for this particular employee to work ... with roughly 17 years of summer vacation until retirement! That's $2.1 million floor to keep a minimally productive employee around.

Those numbers certainly put things in perspective for me. If he were my employee, I would demand accountability. If he sued me for a promotion, I would laugh in his face.

Excellent Satire ...

I await “The Five Stages of Conservative Enlightenment” as described by Ann Coulter. She claims that "There are public denunciations, demands for apologies, letter-writing campaigns, attacks on the sources of your income, and calls for censorship. There will be lots of wailing, but no facts refuting the point behind your hysteria-inducing statement. Liberals prefer denouncing people with idioms—over the top, gone too far, crossed the line, beyond the pale—not substance."

This is fun to observe enraged liberals.

Putting to Death was a recipe ...
.
"...at that time, putting to death was a recipe much in vogue with all trades and professions, and not least of all with Tellson's. Death is Nature's remedy for all things, and why not Legislation's? Accordingly, the forger was put to Death; the utterer of a bad note was put to Death; the unlawful opener of a letter was put to Death; the purloiner of forty shillings and sixpence was put to Death; the holder of a horse at Tellson's door, who made off with it, was put to Death; the coiner of a bad shilling was put to Death; the sounders of three-fourths of the notes in the whole gamut of Crime, were put to Death." -- Charles Dickens, "A Tale of Two Cities"

Congrats Mike!
This is the 1st good article you've written in
quite some time. Keep it up!

Now, I remember why I used to enjoy reading your
columns

Let me set a couple people straight
"Abortion is Murder. Murder is against the law. Anyone who has an abortion or aids in an abortion should be locked up for Murder."

The problem with this is that abortion is a legalized murder, so it is not against the law, therefore the abortionist can not be locked up.

"In some cases Murder is ok. For example if somebody breaks into my house I have a right to use deadly force."

This would not be murder. However, killing someone just for breaking into your house is wrong - what if you're not there, or if you can just go out the other way? If they present a danger, then it's self-defense.

"If a baby is going to kill the mother then once again, there is a situation that requires deadly force."

I've never known a baby having the ability to kill anyone. If childbirth will kill the mother, then she shouldn't have gotten pregnant.

"Abortion is legal. Murder is illegal homicide. Get a grip folks. A salient adult has more rights than a fetus."

Wow, redefining murder. Murder can be legal, as with the Nazis vs. Jews. Get a grip, guy, "fetus" is just a Latin word for "child." Does using a foreign word make it right to kill? Why does an adult have more rights than a child?

"Who is going to pay for the food, shelter, clothing, and devote the time needed to care for the child. You! Nope, you are against welfare, food stamps, etc. We do not need another angry, unwanted child in our society."

You assume that an aborted child would need assistance from the state. You assume too much.

AgainstFreeRides
As soon as you take after the dozens and dozens , if not hundreds, of Leftists in academia who are guilty of the behavior you describe, I will take you seriously when you criticize the one or two conservative academics who are guilty of same.

Feel free to start in with Ward Churchill, who is guilty of plagiarism and has no doctorate, and yet was made head of his department - none of which could be said for DOCTOR Adams.

Salient? Wrong word. Wrong thinking.
Aspacia should use a dictionary. "salient adult" makes no sense. This is to say "protruding adult".

You probably meant to use a borrowed phrase found in discourse about abortion, "sentient adult", which would be a false statement in any case.

Sentient means capable of "experiencing sensation or feeling".

M Sederoff
Add Boston Legal to that list. Thought it was very funny at first. William Shatner is a riot! However, it has become just another Liberal preach-fest. Current events and issues show up in the show and, of course, given a liberal slant. The conservatives on the show are sticks in the mud, buffoons, or borderline senile (Shatner). See, if you have conservative positions like Shatner, you must be ill! The heroes are liberal crusaders. The issues are portrayed as if the view of the left is the only intelligent view-please!

aspacia
"(A) 'salient' adult has more rights than a fetus," eh?

Did you really mean "salient"? If so, does that mean adults who are not in the newspapers, etc., have fewer rights than other adults, especially celebrities and newsmankers?

Or did you mean "sentient"? If so, how do you know that the developing baby (which you call "a fetus") has not sensation?

St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Thomas took the theological position that the forcible removeable of a fetus before the "quickening of life"--c. 4 months--was a crime but not a mortal sin, as "ensoulment" had not occurred.

After the signs of life--a little butterfy flutter below the navel internally--the growing infant had acquired a soul and abortion after that period was murder and a mortal sin.

As clean, medical abortion was not available in Thomas' time, the later abortions occurred, the more difficult and dangerous they were in his time. But his religious application is not so far off than the orig. Roe, before "abortion on demand."

The quickening of life falls outside the first trimester. It also relates, altho' not known in medieval times, to the fifth month, when--now--some babies can be delivered and live healthy lives.

Bluepiper
I disagree with the point you make regarding breaking and entering. If someone breaks into my house, they have violated my space and property with intent, meaning I must assume they are going to do harm. No one breaks into someone else's home to rearrange the linens. I will do WHATEVER I MUST to protect my family, including taking out my new Glock 17 for target practice.

As to abortion, yes, it is legal. All I can do is fight it in a court of law, and in the court of public opinion.

Robert
I forgot, it takes fifty cents to warm up the launch pad...

RETSSGT
My word, you, sir, are a RIOT!! Couldn't agree more with the liberals-in-my-pocket. Now Mrs. Clinton wants to give $5000 for each child born to invest in their education. Where is THAT in the Constitution?? Is it retroactive? Can I put it in my TSP? Is the money supplied by the Federal Reserve fairies?

Robert
Shaggy, scratch my itch, will ya?

I love how they justify it.
"Who is going to pay for the food and shelter!??!?"

Guess you morons should have thought about that PRIOR to your irresponsible behavior.

This is the difference between a sane person and a wacko leftist.

Sane people fully understand that there are consequences to actions, and that if one cannot pay for the consequences of their actions, then they ought to avoid those actions.

A wacko leftist simply thinks that the consequenes ought to only be paid by other people, and that they should be able to do whatever they want whenever they want to do it.

They live in an area that they FULLY KNOW will be wiped out every couple of year? No problem, just make the tax payers buy you a new house every couple of years.

They drop out of school so they have more time to smoke weed all day, and can't get a job? No problem, the tax payers will swoop in and pay for their lifestyle.

They have sex with anything that moves and get knocked up? No problem, the tax payers will pay to have a murderous madman ram a rusty pair of scissors into the back of the unborn babies head.

Personal responsibility is a concept that is TOTALLY foreign to the wacko left wing.

I watched Cold Case last night
and was appalled. But then I realized if that is the best way the left can attack Christians, then we have won. The show was ridiculous. And those who made it are ridiculous. It could have been improved by having a true believing Christian presence but they don't know what that looks like. And by the way, as easy a trail as those kids left, why wasn't the crime solved in the first place. Every week the show is a criticism of police work.
Don't knock the new HD tV's though until you have tried them. Our Patriots look amazing on my new flat screen. Don't worry, I will buy carbon credits to offset the energy use from watching it.

Love is a right?
I would not dignify this silliness with comment, but I hear it surprisingly often.

First off, constitutional rights apply to the role of government, not individual citizens. Therefore, a constitutional right to be loved would place unfair obligations on your representatives in Washington.

But lets assume that this is not meant in the constitutional sense. Do we really have a RIGHT to be loved? A right is something which we can demand, whether the giver is willing or not. Love can only be given voluntarily. And the good news is that there are lots of people out there willy and able to give it, even if those who should fail to do so.

RETSSGT
If true, then Hal D is welcome into my house. I need held reorganizing my linen closet.

As for 'Cold Case', it has become an excuse for a drinking game. I miss 'Dragnet'!

Corrections to misunderstandings
"St. Thomas took the theological position that the forcible removeable of a fetus before the "quickening of life"--c. 4 months--was a crime but not a mortal sin, as "ensoulment" had not occurred. Thomas Aquinas was not God and had no right to determine when a soul existed. Since it is a medical/scientific fact that life begins at conception, I would think God would give the soul at the beginning of life. People are always looking for an age at which it is okay to kill the baby. It is never okay.

YLG writes: "Bluepiper I disagree with the point you make regarding breaking and entering. I think you will find the law does not agree with you. If you have the ability to leave your house without confronting the intruder, you should do so. If confrontation is unavoidable, then blow him away and you're legal, although some states/cities will limit the use of deadly force and require you only to wound. But who says you can aim that good?

gwco2skeptic writes: "First off, constitutional rights apply to the role of government, not individual citizens."

I think you better re-read the Constitution, especially the Bill of Rights. They are the rights of the citizen that are not to be infringed upon by the government.

Bluepiper
The law in Texas agrees with me.

Robert
Hal, what kind of softener do you want?

Why do people spend $$$ adopting?
Why do people spend big bucks adopting from Russia, China, Nigeria, etc., and go through all that international red tape, when they're no willing to adopt an American baby, just because its mother didn't love it?

Oh, yeah, it's because the mother kills the baby, because it has the right to die, rather than be loved by someone else who WANTS it.

Riiiiiiggght. We life-loving conservatives would NEVER adopt an American baby to save it from abortion. We only travel around the world, and spend oodles of money for FOREIGN babies, whose mothers cared enough to give birth. Of course.

Killing inconvenient babies makes it DARNED inconvenient for the rest of us!

RIP Studeo Sixty
Studeo Sixty was produced by the same people who brought us The West Wing, and like that show, S.S. was great...at first.

But invariably such shows reduce themselves to being little more than a running comentary on why conservatives are either evil, or complete morons.

The president was referred to by one of the characters on the program as "Skippy McDumbass". How clever. Oh they did have a regular character who was the show's Christian but she was a case study in compramise and contradiction. Fortunately, the show was cancelled after the first season, and I say that without malice. I enjoyed the program for a while, but it became harder and harder to cringe past the parts where conservatives and Christians are treated with contempt.

There is to date only one show that has handled the political divide of this nation with intelligence and humor. That show is Scrubbs. Cudos to Zack Braff for showing the anger and conviction of BOTH sides of the Iraq war argument, and for not being scared to have the name Jesus spoken as something other than a curse word. Hopefully more shows will follow that example.

Back to the article...
How many more Constitutional rights are liberals going to find that I can't? Do I have the right to have my neighbor invite me to her party because I have the right to be loved? I don't want her to hurt my feelings.

oh my
This piece was a satire, literally a joke in itself. It was amusing in its own right but this thread takes the cake. There is nothing to debate other than the antagonist’s erroneous and completely weird application of constitutional rights and abortion. The thread for some reason has taken all types of strange turns. I can understand the abortion debate. Just mention the word and we get the same responses from the same folks every time. But TV? Come on. Are those mean old liberals forcing some of you to watch bad TV?

Gwco
Constitutional rights in the Bill of Rights apply only to the citizen where the government acts against the citizen. The federal and state governments are limited this way, although there are still a couple of rights not applied to the states yet.

Btw, this means that non-government persons CAN violate all of those rights. You have to sue them in court under violation of other laws, but cannot sue for constitutional violations.

Blue, the requirement to retreat, or not, when faced with a home intruder is the castle doctrine. Each state has a version of that law, and not all states require the occupier of a home to just leave or to just wound without killing. Some states allow the home occupier to blow the intruder away.

Guess which states have more burglaries. You got it, those with the retreat rule.

Bluepiper
The laws in Kentucky also agree with YLG. And, though the state sometimes goes red nationally, it is, and has been, run by Democrats since the JurASSic (as in donkey) Period.

GoBlue: Cold Case
Saw the show too, and thought it was really poorly written.

The motivations of the characters who committed the murder made no sense because nothing was established to motivate them. This is a typical error made by inexperienced writers.

I suspect that Leftist activists have taken over artistic control at that production, in order to push their agenda. They like to imagine that they have creative talent, but frequently don't.

This is why formerly great shows like Law and Order have become so bad they are almost unwatchable.

More about Cold Case bad writing
One of the mistakes that neophyte writers make is not setting the stage while maintaining a mystery.

Sometimes, when wanting to surprise an audience, a bad writer will fail to set down the clues that will prepare the audience for the outcome, while also laying "red herrings" that lead them in another direction, keeping them guessing. So when you have the "surprise" ending such as the one last night, the audience is left flat, not believing the unveiling of the culprit.

This was a poor attempt to mimic "Murder on the Orient Express," while taking a swipe at Christians at the same time.

Agatha Christie is spinning in her grave.

It has been happening gradually over time, the extreme Leftist take over of Movies and TV, but it has been even more pronounced over the last 5-10 years, when the voices of the "Normies" have been silenced to make way for the united voice of the activist left.

Because conservatives are generally rational, and have a tendancy toward independant self-reliance, they do not operate in concert as do the activist Left, and did not see it coming, as one-by-one the radical leftists in "Hollywood" got themselves promoted and then promoted their friends, squeezing out those who disagree.

It took time for them to acheive their goals, to have artistic control over the entire entertainment industry, and it will take time to take it back.

Keep up the good work Mike Adams.

to be loved
We have thousands of families who wish to adopt children each year. Many are turned down when they could be adopting 'unwanted' children.

Children are an absolute blessing from God, and I thank Him each day for mine. Having children has helped me understand the depths of God's love for us.

Its such a shame people treat them as simple property or some medical affliction which has beset them.

Winning the hearts and minds of America
We are making headway in the abortion debate, because the Left aborted their kids, while conservatives did not. I hope that parents continue to teach their children right from wrong, and not only call abortion a sin, but put a human face on the tiny baby inside the "mommie bumps," so that by the time a girl is old enough to conceive she would be as revulsed at the thought of abortion as she is at the thought of drowning a kitten. But we should not stop there, but work at taking back control of the entertainment industry, as well as education and the courts.

PETA
This is the same kind of argument made by PETA that, since Knute (the polar bear in Germany) didn't have a mother, it should be killed -- it is so much better to be raised in nature by man that an animal should be killed if it cannot be raised by its mother.

It defies logic, but since when did liberals rely on logic?

Even more about taking back our country
We have lain down as the Left have rolled their power grab machine over us like so many steamrollers, and the wishy washy Libsters, the useful idiots, help them to take power, even if they don't hold such extreme positions.

We have an uphill climb, because the useful idiots help the activist left to close ranks and keep our voice out of the public arena.

Of course, we now have the new media, and I suggest we take full advantage of it, including blogs and places like MySpace.

If you ever read James Taranto, he calls this the Roe Effect. And it is true: my sister, who believes in the 'right to choose' is raising her daughters to believe it, too. My 18 year old niece has seen the fallacy of the argument, and credits my question to her, 'If a woman has the right to choose, who speaks for the child in her womb?', with her ability to see the issue in a more balanced light. She may still believe in the right to choose, but at least she's now getting information she can use to form a more solid opinion.

Your columns defending unborn children are your best. Simply awesome, and thank you!

YLG: The Roe Effect
I wonder if your niece ever asks her mommie if she had brothers and sisters who had their lives snuffed out in the womb?

I know you probably love your sister, but I am sure you will agree that she is in denial about the humanity of those hapless babies. Especially since she obviously carried a baby to term herself, probably saw the ultrasound, and is not ignorant about the stages of development.

One of the things you can do subtly is get a good coffee table book, such as the 20-year-old one called "A Child Is Born," which shows electronmicroscope photos of a baby in the womb. It is beautiful, fascinating and tasteful, and perhaps there may be an updated version with higher production values. Or leave around another great book called "Who Broke the Baby?" which addresses and dispatches the slogans of the pro-aborts.

Mountain Rose
To the best of my knowledge, she never has asked that question. I hope that by showing her how dehumanizing abortion is, she will come to her senses. I know some lib is reading this and is about to attack us. They should save their breath.

If you want to see how much the Left REALLY feel about human rights, take a gander at countries where the Left is in control.

This ranges from mild Socialist countries like the Netherlands, where medical care is denied the elderly, and they are "euthanized," to the brutal regimes in Indochina and North Korea, to the former USSR (noting that the evils of Russia are starting to rear their ugly heads again), to the Red Chinese treatment of the their Buddahist "protectorates."

YLG: I hope that you can have a subtle
influence on your niece.

I have seen a lot of shows about people were seperated from their siblings in infancy, or had a twin who died, even in the womb. Although they don't remember the siblings, they go around feeling like a part of them is missing.

Take these multiple pregnancies that result from in vitro fertilization. Often, the doctor will abort several of the babies because the couple was trying for only one.

How much more will the surviving child feel something is missing?

What do the parents tell them? Yes, honey, I had all your brothers and sisters killed so that you might be the only child in my life.

How comforting (NOT)!

Coat Hanger Abortions
One of the guilt trips the Left uses to pummel us into submission over permitting abortion on demand is the myth of the coat hanger abortion.

The threat is: "if you don't let me have a doctor kill my baby, I will do it myself, and possibly die in the process!"

This is emotional blackmail at its lowest. Much worse than the ever-popular hunger strike. Why not let prisoners who want to kill themselves by starvation exercise their right to choose?

Or how about the toddler who holds his breath and turns blue to get his way? Slap him silly until he breathes, or leave the room. If he passes out, his autonomic nervous system will take over, and he will breathe then!

If a girl is stupid enough to not only act like a tramp and allow herself to be used and discarded, but then to poke a filthy coathanger inside her body, do we really want her in the gene pool?

The truth is, these are all versions of emotional blackmail, and are unethical. Why should we give in to the tyranny of these obnoxious jerks?

YLG & Mountain Rose
Why should some liberal attack you? What you have is one of the best methods of combating abortion; humanizing it. I know the anti-war crowd would love to do the same thing. Remember when they wanted to show the flag draped coffins. Some of them also want to show casualties, especially children. It’s funny how they are opposed to the killing of children one way but support it another way. Oh, that’s right, so do you guys. Oh well, good luck taking over TV production. It must be heck being forced to watch such crappy show. You know what they say: Today ze TV – Tomorrow ze vorld!

Alright, who removed my post?
I can't believe that anyone would remove that post. It is far less offensive than the things that Lefties do to emotionally blackmail us.

Progressive societies like ours
A society that will kill its most defenseless members is a society that will kill anyone, for any reason. I'm tired of the ridiculous arguments that the abortionists keep advancing to protect their vaunted right to butcher. Abortion is the issue that we will be remembered for, long after our society is gone. Schoolkids will be taught, and will intuitively understand, that a society that kills itself is a society that cannot survive for very long.

I appreciate Dr. Adams' willingness to stick his neck out on this.

Thanks MikeR!
The anti-abortion movement has tried all kinds of ways to call attention to the humanity of the baby in the womb.

The problem is, of course, the censorship that takes place on the part of the Left toward any thing we might put out there.

One of the more effective attempts was Operation Rescue, who, in a obvious immitation of Green Peace, would risk themselves bodily and reputationally to stand between doomed babies and the evil doctors that waited to hasten their demise.

When it became obvious to the Left that Operation Rescue was not only having an effect on the number of abortions at a targeted clinic, but on the number of abortions in general, the Left decided to silence them.

They started to refuse to cover their protests, and did not stop there, but refused to cover ANY anti-abortion rally or march.

When the Left has monolithically decided to conspire to censor a cause, there is no need for the government to censor it for them.

But now, we have the new media, where we can give voice to our ideas without censorship, and we should take every advantage while we still have this platform.

Knowing the Left, we can look forward to them trying to shut us up in this venue as well.

That's weird: my post came back
Well, I apologize!

My post was there, and then disappeared, and then came back some time later. I don't know if it was a trick of cyber space or what, but I am happy that I was not censored.

Apparently, using your own words you escaped from the intellectual derangement of parent's ideas only to hop on to Margaret Sanger's ideas on eugenics. Here is your quote right out of her ideas:

If a girl is stupid enough to not only act like a tramp and allow herself to be used and discarded, but then to poke a filthy coathanger inside her body, do we really want her in the gene pool?

That old threat about coat hanger abortions reminds me of children. "I will hold my breath until I die!"

Quite frankly if they have a coat hanger abortion and die so be it. That really falls under the category of too stupid to live in my book.

facts on abortion and a question
1. At time of constitution abortion was legal.
2. Prior to Roe, if you had money and influence, you could a legal abortion if 2 doctors signed off on some health excuse. I know a few people from back then, well connected, who had no serious health problems, having no trouble getting 2 doctors to sign off. That was in PA. So legal abortion alway available for the well connected and people with money and if not by the ruse of health then an airplane to somewhere where it was legal.
3. In 1967, in CA, for first time, abortion on demand in first trimester legal.Gov. Reagen signed off on this.
4. NY followed in 1970 and I think 16 other states before Roe.
5. Abortion on demand for up 22 weeks is legal in every Western country, including Austalia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico City, and Japan except for catholic poland and Ireland. In those countries, those with cash go to another country.
_____________
Clearly, all these countries are not brain washed by leftists; Margaret Thatcher was not a leftist. The present govt in Australia is conservative. And moreover they dont have constitiutons like ours requiring 2/3 vote of Congress and 3/4 of states to pass constitutional amendment. In those countries a simple majority could outlaw abortion easily.

Question: How does one explain this. It cant all be leftist control. I hope the explanations go beyond that they are stupid, evil etc. Not much of an explanation.

FROM A PRO-LIFER
I think abortion is wrong, but semantics won't help our case. I'm staunchly against partial birth abortion because at that point the fetus is a viable organism capable of surviving outside the womb. I'm even supportive of legislating against 2nd trimester abortions because the fetus (you may prefer child) is beyond the embryonic stage.

Morally, I'm even against 1st trimester abortions, but the child isn't even a fully developed embryo at this stage. Its brains and organs haven't developed, so I can certainly understand how someone wouldn't bestow human (or even living) status on it yet. Religiously speaking, I certainly don't think it has a soul at this point, and for me personally, that's a major criteria when determining human living status.

I'm saying, even though I personally disagree with all abortions, it's impractical to believe that a woman shouldn't make decisions concerning her pregnancy UP TO A CERTAIN POINT. If before three months she chooses to terminate, that's between her and her god. And it would be understandable to me if she didn't assign the same value to embryonic life that she assigns to life in later trimesters or outside the womb.

I personally think it makes her wrong, but it doesn't make her evil.

len- Sanger did not stop there
but tried to prevent all minorities from breeding. This is why she founded Planned Parenthood, to stop the reproduction of those agains whom she was prejudiced.

This is not my position. But if some dimwit wants to die rather than give the gift of life to her baby and the gift of a baby to a loving couple longing to adopt, why should I stand in her way of making that "choice," and prevent her from removing herself from the gene pool?

Interestingly enough, when you drive through the middle class neighborhood close to my home, the Planned Parenthood offices have an enoumous red sign, that is probably 15-20 feet high, unlike in the white neighborhoods where the signs are not so obvious. The raciest roots of PP are still alive.

Instead of the cheap shot of calling people stupid for "coat hanger" abortions, why dont you do some reseach into the real lives of such desparate people. After doing so, then you are entitled to comment. Until, you are commenting on people you know knowing about.

By the way "coat hanger" really refers to all various ways of aborting from clorox to having your boyfriend stomp on your belly, Does not sound like stupid; sounds like very desaparate people. IT is nothing I would do and it is not because I am smart like you. I dont what it is to be in such a desparate situation so I am not so quick to comment.
I was watching Ken Burns on the war. And there was a diary read of the viscioius battles on the islands on the South PAcific; and the guy writes in his diary of watching another american soldier cutting open the jaw of a live wounded japanese soldier to get the gold. People do things they might not normally do in desaparate situations; and war is one of those since the dawn of history. Clearly, people aborting with coat hangers are in desparate situation quite foreign to you. Dont be so quick to judge unless you have been there.

Come on, dont be silly. Middle class people know what to do; they are hip whether it be their teeth and good health care. They dont need to be reminded that abortion available. And if you had a change of heart re abortion, you dont need a big red sign for you to know what to do,

so nothing to do with racism. The poor are not quick on the trigger on what to do when in trouble. The same with prostrate exams, colon. exams; the middle class is more on the ball and needs less reminders.

Right to Be Loved
Great article Mike. Of course some humorless liberals will see it as you advocating murder. By your logic I should be able to kill Jessica Simpson or her to kill me since my fondest wish would be to be loved by her. Alba is gorgeous too but I just prefer Simpson better. All satire aside if someone wants to commit abortion they should come up with a better excuse than the "right to be loved". This is probably the same excuse some people would give for euthanasia of the old or disabled that they are not lovable or useful anymore. God how did we get to this point in our history and society? I shudder about our future.

no consequences of sex. thats what you really want. maybe that really desperate person should not have got pregnant. but it's certainty not the babies fault, so the baby should not have to be executed for it's parents mistake.

very good marc. So get out and convert those people to think like you; to live a middle class life. That is the solution for those like you who sit on the sidelines and judge. When I come across a homeless guy begging for money, I give him a cigarette, i dont give a lecture on how evil he is. I guess if I were really a good christian, I would take home and try to rehabilate him; i am not so ;the cigarette will suffice; but i am not full of myself to think I am better than him in some moral sense. So go out and help the less fortunate girls so they dont have to resort to abortion and be slaves to men who get them pregnant.

That aint so easy, is it. Much easier to blow smoke about evil in the world.

Some might quip, "And the downside is ... ?"

I'll answer: the innocent baby still dies,
and my son and his wife want the child.

Aside from reducing the idiot liberals in the gene pool, her solution would also highlight the values priorities she sets.

Having her baby is so repulsive that living herself is less desirable.

How incredibly sad.

I wonder just how little value she placed on herself before participating in the act of procreation, or if she had even thought about her value then. I wonder if she knew just how little value her sperm donor placed on her life when he did, and if she even thought about it then. To call such a "man" a "lover" does grave injustice to the idea of love, and masks the contempt he must hold her in.

how to get rid of abortion
Increase welfare payments by 200%. For middle class people, give free child care and free college tuition at the rate of $40,000 a year.

That would have a big effect.

OF course, the harder task is to copy the examples of the apostle and get on the road and convert people to your level of morality.

Very simple solutions. OF course, it is much simpler to post here how superior you are morally and how evil the rest are.

The area I was mention is middle class, and probably goes to upper middle class, which just happens to be populated mostly by black people. It is adjacent to Pasadena, California an upper class area, and down the road from San Marino, which has one of the highest per-capita incomes in the country.

Yet the Planned Parenthood people, who think black people are too stupid (or near-sighted) to find them, feel it necessary to erect a sign that is almost as large as the building it sits upon.

I suggest that PP is still a racist organization, and that it is frustrating to them that most of the aborted babies are from white Leftie mommies.

Racist has a definitive meaning of using law to deny people fundmental rights because of color. That was slavery and forced segregation.

So I dont see how advertising beer on football games is what? playing on the desires of males.

Advertising abortion services where you think it might have the most effect for those who want to abort is not racist. No one is twisting the arm. It is not given free. They have to pay.

What do you call the cereal companies who advertise cereals on kiddy programs. Childist.

Frankly, I would like to see those on welfare have less children. Does that make me racist because per centage wise most people on welfare are black. No, I don't it benefits the country as a whole to have children in single parent families brought up on a welfare mentality.

There is a production company called Walden Media that is making family friendly films, but I am not sure how to find them. I don't know if they are related to Walden Books or not. I have some ideas for scripts, though I am not a writer, so I would be interested in finding such a company too.

I have written to Bill Bennett and Sean Hannity to suggest that they form production companies.

If there is anyone out there that has the business smarts and ability to raise money, I would like to challange them to start their own production company as well.

There are many, many conservatives in "Hollywood," wishing that there were conservative and family friendly films with traditional values that they could work on, and a country full of people longing for the next "Little House on the Prairie," or "The Waltons."

The problem is, of course, that most "Hollywood" movies lose money or break even, though big hits make the gamble worthwhile. People who are risk adverse don't like to invest in such a venture.

I never said i was pro life in the sense of anti-choice. The anti-choice movement has appropriated that word which is a mockery. The missionaries and the volunteers and the doctors without borders are pro life by putting their values into action.
The anti-choice group simply wants to impose its idea of morality on others. The average pro life voter is not taking in 4 foster kids; he is not volunterring in Africa. I am somewhat sarcastic about pro-lifers when all it means is anti-choice. IF the anti-choice people sat down quietly they would realize that they will not stop abortion; it is part of the whole Western culture. But there are many children living lousy lives all over the world. Efforts there would pay off whereas the anti-choice rhetoric is a lost cause.
Do you realize that catholics who are indoctrinated from childhood have abortions at the same rate as others in this country. That should be a wakeup call that the anti-choice movement is only rhetoric. It is a lost cause

Yes, I think that this is sometimes the solution.

The Right has become almost paralyzed from tip-toeing around the emotional blackmail of the Left.

"Waaaaaaaah!!!!! If you impune my character for behaving like an alley cat, I will go out and murder my baby!"

"Waaaah! If you don't let me kill my baby, I will impale myself on a coathanger!"

"Waaaaah!!! If you don't give me $5,000.00 for every brat I carry to term, I will vote for the Shrillster!"

I know you and Len are conversing, but please allow me to jump in. You make many assumptions concerning who's more charitable between liberals and conservatives, but there's really no way of knowing, and it really doesn't matter anyway. Len has many valid points.

Statistics show that poverty is the single most prevalent reason that women have abortions. Therefore, when you address issues that cause poverty, you also address the abortion issue. Even though I preach abstainance (which makes me a hypocrite), I also realize responsible use of birth control reduces abortion. Do you think teenagers with raging hormones won't have sex simply because sex education isn't taught in schools?

The problem with many pro-lifers (of which I'm one) is that we're too self righteous. I hate abortions, so if the morning after pill reduces abortion, I'm for it. If condoms reduce abortions, I'm for them.

And finally, let's realize life doesn't begin at conception and end at birth. If you're concerned about a developing embryo or fetus, you should be moreso concerned about a child existing outside the womb. Medical health care until the age of 18 should be a mandatory right for U. S. kids. Yeah, I know, that's the parents responsibility. But if the parents fail them, we that advocate with moral indignation for embryos and fetuses should have no problem picking up the slack.

These kids will face many obstacles being raised by people that are nothing more than breeders. Health care when they're sick or in pain shouldn't be one of them.

doc
one of michael jackson's defenders claimed the kids describing his strangelooking manhood(?) learned of it by seeing him use the men's room. Right. Your solution sounds like blackmail to me: "give me all this stuff or Junior gets whacked".

It also assumes that money is the main reason women have abortions (as if killing your baby to protect your standard of living make it OK). Many women choose abortion for reasons such as dislike for the baby's father, to conceal an affair, or just plain embarrassment.

And why is it that feminists are always telling us (correctly) that women are amazing, powerful, able, intelligent, and so forth, but as soon as one becomes pregnant (ie. the one thing they can do that men can't) they become these poor helpless victims who can't go on without murdering the ticking time bomb in their womb (ie the real helpless victim).

Your solution also puts me in mind of those who said that Lincoln was wrong to sign the Emancipation Proclamation, since slavery was becoming less and less viable and would eventually die out on its own. There are some evils that need to be declared so, in order to recognise the humanity of the victims, and set a moral standard. Its called justice.

Olberman Rocks
"Statistics show that poverty is the single most prevalent reason that women have abortions."

This is false. If you see statistics that say this, they are incorrect.

The largest study done (sorry, I can't find a link for this) showed that most abortions were performed because the woman did not want a baby.

They may claim economic reasons, but the statistics showed that the majority of the abortions were on middle and upper class women.

I will keep looking for the study.

Olberman's Rocks in his head
I wonder what stats you are looking at?

Rich bi-zitches in Beverly Hills have abortions in fancy doctor's offices in high-rises on Wilshire Bouldvard. They bill them as D and Cs rather than abortions, and no one is the wiser.

These gals do not have to resort to darkening the door of Planned Parenthood, where the "patients" are lined up in a row and dispatched in an assembly line manner.

Instead, the wealthy gals get lemon-flavored water, accompanied by a facial and a back rub, and perhaps a little liposuction, at the same time at some Medi-spa.

You should also consider that socialist countries that have all the services you mention have much higher abortion rates than the US.

Husker 2 and Mountain Weed
Husker, I have no reason to doubt what respondents say in a confidential poll. Yes, ultimately they may want to. But if they say they want to because of poverty, then both cases could be true. I think this is my last post, but I'd be interested in any survey you may provide that cite different statistics.

My dear Mountain Rose, I wonder which is worse, the rocks in my head or the blinders over your eyes. You're obviously one of the self-righteous smucks I was refering to in my previous posts. I say poverty (based on studies) is the leading cause of abortions. You immediately cite some rich people who have aborted babies. Does this make my argument false? Where did I say rich or middle class people didn't have abortions? Does the fact that they've (rich people) had abortions make my statement false?

The next time someone points out that by percentages black people commit more crimes, I guess I'll name a few white people that committed crimes. By your logic, this should totally refute their argument.

Now, you may continue being the sactimonious prick that you are.

You keep siting that phony poverty junk. You seem to forget many keep having these kids out of wedlock to get more welfare not less. You really need to check the studies of Congress, hence the reason we conservatives scream about welfare. I also agree with marc though, poverty is no excuse for bad behavior.

Midstream correction
Whenever someone touches me in the circumstances Mike described, I promise to spin around in mid-stream and ask them what they want.

Hey Olbie-man
Unless you are willing to say that rich people are less promiscious than poor people, please explain why poor people give birth to more children than rich people?

The difference is, rich bi-zitches don't have to report it when they have their spawn snuffed within their wombs, because the doctor evils in the gold-plated ghetto know how to bill the insurance companies without admitting anything.

Take a look at the tabliod news and see the behavior of the bored little rich girls, and try to tell me how virtuous these little tramps are.

The biggest fault of your left wing parents is their failing to get you to think sharply: Look so far: racist for PP because at most they make it easy for Blacks to get abortion(i will assume true, but i am sure they do it for whites also)

Then you call abortion murder as if that is common usage; it has never been used in law even when illegal. That is kos kind of posting.

Then you compare people with money getting abortion to rich criminals getting away. You dont see the obvioius flaw, do you?
Everybody or almost consider what rich people do when they getaway with murder a travesty. Everyone agrees what OJ and spector is worthy of punishment.

But the people who support pro choice are not the scum of society. Catholics abort; jews abort; protestants abort.

You have no respect for people who see it differently; it is not that you should be pro-choice, but you ought to realize decent people all over the Western World, japan, australia are
pro choice; they are not scum; so stop talking about them as if they are beneath you because they disagree.

For all you know you come across women every day using an IUD which is a very effective abortion tool; do you insult them by calling them murders. So why do it here.

Peope disagree on abortion. Most are in favor of it at least in the first trimester. This is all over the civilized world. Have some respect for those who differ from you..

Given that decent people even such as mrs Reagan who is rumored to be pro choice but is clearly poor embyro, you ought to understand then it unfair that the procedure be only open to people with money.
By the way, would you have courage and indecency to write mrs reagain a letter calling her a supporter of murder for her support of embryonic research. After all, if you convince her that she is supporting murder and she confessed to the media that might help the anti embyro research cause. Write her. I am being sarcastic because I thought it a cheap shot to use the term here.

The point is that all you social conservatives come across as if you are on LSD. Abortion is here to stay. I cant understand why any sane person thinks it can be changed. Tonite at the gym matching CNN, they interviewed a guy from focus on the family and he siad if rudy runs, there might be a 3rd party; and he said so what if hillary gets in. We have suicide bombers in Iraq; now we have death wish people here.
Abortion is a dead issue. You cant change it. The guy from focus on the family did not realize if hillary gets in with dem congress what kind of judges will you get.
The story is over. Abortion is here to stay. Anybody want to take a $5000 bet that Roe is not overturned; give you 5 years.

I said social conservatives are on LSD or something. I give you another egs. A few years ago in NJ in order to discourage welfare they instutitued that if already on welfare with child and you have another one NO increase in welfare payments. The prolife and other conservative groups supported it.

HA HA Guess what happenned. Abortion rates went up. And so now the pro life group asked for repeal.

Good, we need more social conservatives and more welfare.
Stupidiyy if I ever saw it. LEt only the pro life people pay for welfare since they love children so much. Leave me out.

poor abort more than anyone else
Google blacks and abortion and you will find the following

Minority women constitute only about 13% of the female population (age 15-44) in the United States, but they underwent approximately 36% of the abortions.

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion

On average, 1,452 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.

This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 10 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 31 million, the missing 10 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America's Black community would now number 41 million persons. It would be 35 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."

A highly significant 1993 Howard University study showed that African American women over age 50 were 4.7 times more likely to get breast cancer if they had had any abortions compared to women who had not had any abortions.

_______________________________________________

I don't like to spend time on grammar and the use of words, but this example is too good: aspacia, God bless her lib/lefty drenched brain, means 'sentient,' not salient, adult. The baby, of course, is not sentient.

Now, aspacia: I WILL PAY FOR THE FOOD, SHELTER, CLOTHING, AND DEVOTE THE TIME NEEDED TO CARE FOR THE CHILD, and what is better is that there are thousands of us ready to do that, not to mention the couples who want to adopt those babies. This lib/lefty/feminist LIE just doesn't work any more.

Indeed, we do not need another angry, unwanted child, which is exactly why there are people ready, willing, and able to WANT the child. Go ahead, contradict me: Tell me that your crystal ball, that the Flaming Lib/Lefty Institute has conducted studies that prove factually that what I say is not correct, that NO ONE will pay for the food, shelter, clothing, and devote the time needed to care for the children.

you ask why you should pay for people are not like you. Good question. But the sun comes up everyday; and as long as you have single parents with children, you will have welfare regardless of whether dems or reps are in power. That is a fact of life just like the sun comes up.

You have no choice to pay for it not only in money, but in crime
including murder and stealing. Those are facts. Not only will you pay for it, but your schools will be affected; your medical care will be effected because it these people that liberals point to as an exuse for govt medical care. You will pay thru the nose while you are exclaming it is not fair and protesting outside an abortion clinic as these welfare people come for an abortion.
Keep protesting and paying.

St. Thomas took the theological position that the forcible removeable of a fetus before the "quickening of life"--c. 4 months--was a crime but not a mortal sin, as "ensoulment" had not occurred.

Roman Catholicism and abortion access
Pagan & Christian beliefs 400 BCE -1980 CE

Sponsored link.

An overview of Roman Catholic beliefs are described in a separate essay

The Apostolic Constitutions (circa 380 CE) allowed abortion if it was done early enough in pregnancy. But it condemned abortion if the fetus was of human shape. "Thou shalt not slay the child by causing abortion, nor kill that which is begotten. For everything that is shaped, and his received a soul from God, if slain, it shall be avenged, as being unjustly destroyed." 7:3:15 This document claimed to have been written by the apostles. However, it was actually written late in the 4th century CE at about the time that Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire and serious oppression of Paganism started.

St. Augustine (354-430 CE) reversed centuries of Christian teaching in Western Europe, by returning to the Aristotelian Pagan concept of "delayed ensoulment." He wrote 7 that a human soul cannot live in an unformed body. Thus, early in pregnancy, an abortion is not murder because no soul is destroyed (or, more accurately, only a vegetable or animal soul is terminated). He wrote extensively on sexual matters, teaching that the original sin of Adam and Eve are passed to each successive generation through the pleasure generated during sexual intercourse. This passed into the church's canon law. Only abortion of a more fully developed "fetus animatus" (animated fetus) was punished as murder.

St. Jerome (circa 340 - 420) wrote in a letter to Aglasia:
"The seed gradually takes shape in the uterus, and it [abortion] does not count as killing until the individual elements have acquired their external appearance and their limbs" 8

rennie and luis
Pope Innocent III (circa 1161-1216):

He wrote a letter which ruled on a case of a Carthusian monk who had arranged for his female lover to obtain an abortion. The Pope decided that the monk was not guilty of homicide if the fetus was not "animated."

Early in the 13th century he stated that the soul enters the body of the fetus at the time of "quickening" - when the woman first feels movement of the fetus. After ensoulment, abortion was equated with murder; before that time, it was a less serious sin, because it terminated only potential human life, not human life.
St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) also considered only the abortion of an "animated" fetus as murder.

Pope Gregory XIV (1535-1591) revoked the Papal bull shortly after taking office in 1591. He reinstated the "quickening" test, which he determined happened 116 days into pregnancy (16½ weeks).

AND I THOUGHT POPES NEVER MAKE A MISTAKE SINCE THEY TALK TO GOD. WELL MAYBE GOD HAS A FEW BAD DAYS

len- sorry, but there are no poor blacks
who live near me, but lots and lots of very poor Hispanics who have lots and lots of babies.

I am sure that there must be poor black people in the Los Angeles area, but the only poor blacks I have seen are among the druggies that hang out by City Hall or at Skid Row. All the black people I know are middle and upper middle class. I think that Planned Parenthood is targeting the Black community for abortions, for some reason, even when the neighborhood is well off. Perhaps they are channelling Margaret Sanger and her racist ideas.

lennie
whether or not the Catholic Church changes its mind does not change the morality of the issue.

Why don't we use science to determine whether infants in the womb are living human beings worthy of life and protection under the Constitution of the United States of America.

The Constitution, after all, guarantees that we shall not be deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law. When do these babies get their day in court?

The science inside the womb
In the medical community, the way that life is determined is by brainwaves and a heartbeat.

At 18-25 days, a heartbeat can be detected, and brainwaves can be recorded at 40 days- both occur before most girls realize that they are pregnant.

By 11 weeks, the baby can squint, swallow, make a fist, kick, and suck his or her thumb. He or she has fingerprints, and is sensitive to light and noise.

Is it human, though?

Why don't we take it's DNA to find out? Yes, from the moment of conception, the nacent infant is human.
http://www.silentscream.org/developm.htm

When the sperm and egg come together, the new Zygote receives some genetic material from the father, and some from the mother, and then the chromosomes arrange themselves neatly into pairs.

It is at conception that your genetic code is determined and does not change for the rest of your life. From that moment on, the body continues to make new cells by duplicating and dividing existing cells, and each time your genetic code is faithfully copied.

So now we know that a baby is human AND a unique individual from conception, and can be proven to be alive during the first month of gestation.

Now you tell me what the doctor is killing in the womb.

I don't get it...
Why do people refer to a woman having an abortion as "the mother"? Doesn't an abortion prevent motherhood?

Doug
What would you call her then?

Perhaps we should call her 'Mommie Dearest,' especially when she starts waving those coathangers around.

Maybe it is time we told Mommie Dearest
that it is time to put the wire hangers away and treat her baby like a human being!

Mountain Rose

Execellent point. However, Lenny has posted TONS of anti-life and anti-Catholic stuff all over townhall already, designed to deceive. He has YET to come across a "dissident" Catholic of whom he disapproves!!

My husband and I
just helped out at the 15th annual Pro Life WI banquet last Friday night. It was so uplifting to see so many people united for and fighting for Life. Many priests were in attendance (God bless them), but EVERY priest from WI should have attended if they were able. We are working hard on educating people to the reality of abortion and why our society is so angry and hateful. Lack of respect for life leads to lack of respect for life. Simple. Not complicated like PP tries to make it. Not complicated like many so called "christians" make it. Simple. Black and white. Babies should always be loved and cared for. Simple. Putting others before ourselves should be the way we live. Every other excuse in the books is a smokescreen....God Bless America and help us to end this holocaust soon.

I am not talking about your area. Someone posted that most abortions by the miiddle an upper classes; and so i posted the statisitcs on blacks; of course there was no break down on income; i will check that later

but i know a big deal was made of medacaid abortion

Science has nothing to with abortion anymore than science has to do with collateral damage to civilians on war or as we did in ww 2 in bombing civilians.

IT has to with how we experience what is in the womb; and apparantly normal people, the marjority in the Western world, dont experience early stages as a person; after all talking about science at concepton, you have one cell; you can extract on cell from your skin and do you know that can become a person. Did you know that? It has been done. Do some home work and check out , Dolly the sheep.

moutain rose
So you are more moral than all the pro-choice people. Congratulatons that we have such a moral person who is better than those who aborted and those who are pro-choice and have not aborted.

One should be suspsicoius of those who parade their morality. And does it not give you pause for thought that so many other intelligent people who are not the scum of the earth see it differently.

By the way, you can think it immoral as you might think pre maritial sex,
and still come to the concluson that law should not be used. That is you can be pro-choice and at the same time consider abortion immoral.

After all, i dont think you have the guts to pull the lever on the electric chair for some sane, in your face liberal woman who aborts. After all, you call it murder.

I only cite the catholic history to indicate that intelligent people see things at different times different than you do. Dont be such a wise guy to think you are so superior to them. It is not so black and white.

When we try to copy the example of the apostle and get on the road and convert people to our level of morality, we are condemned as hating, homophobic "theocons".

Look around TH and see how many anti-Christian posts there are. If Dr. Adams wants some action on his posting board, all he has to do is write a column mentioning his Christian beliefs, and it is off to the races about the intollerant, evil, racist, gay-bashing believers.

Don't even mention Catholics, or you will generate another 100 ranting posts.

You are right about some of the anti=christ. stuff for some But the fault lies with the ultra christians who insist on using law to impose their values.

IF they would say: We do not want to use law to enforce our views; hence, pro choice, but we will attempt to convince you of our moral position, they might get a better receptoin. But there is arrogance re abortion given that there is consensus over the whole western wolrd, australia, new zealand, japan, all civilized countries that the choice is the woman's. And some of the ultra christ. want to impose their morality on the law which turns people off and angry/

hugger2
if you read justice kennedy's marjority opinion in the partial birth abortion case which upheld he federal law on a certain procedureIwith many loopholes), it could have written by the pope in certain parts in its paternalistic attitude toward women which is typical of the catholic church.

Husker2
Nice one!

len
"And some of the ultra christ. want to impose their morality on the law which turns people off and angry"

But that is the heart of the problem.

Upon whose morality is the law based?

My morality says it is OK to beat my children and wife. Can't I have the law based on my moral beliefs?

Should we base the law on our Western Civilization's heritage? Better not do that or slavery and host of other ideas become legal.

Today, in our country, we base our laws on the Judeo-Christian culture.

Many people may not like it, but reality is what it is.

I have to agree with Mike...

What the other Prof said is about the dumbest thing I have ever read.

And you Libs are proud of people like that?!?!?!?

Hang on a second....suspending disbelief while I read your replies.....okay, go ahead.

What is a right?
Most have no idea what constitutes a 'right' and from where 'rights' come.

Too many believe that simply saying "I have a right to ...." makes it so.

How is it determined...
that a child will not be loved.

Maybe the law should requuire that a new mother hold her child, and a new father, in her arms. Feed the child from her breast. Look into the childs eyes. See the child smile for the first time. Hear the child cry the thousandth time. See the joy of the first day of school, and the fear. Feel the emotion of the childs first home run, and the hundreth strike out.

Then if the child isn't loved, it can be killed.

Killing Us In Wilmington!
Dear Professor Adams: Speaking as one who has enough couth and better sense as to not bother a man engaged in his sacred duty to Mother Nature, let me ask this. When did a fine old city like yours- once the last sea bastion of the South (I've been to Fort Fisher!)- turn into the present-day citadel of secular insanity that it's apparently become? It was still a fine, old town when I was last there in 1979, just before leaving Fort Bragg. Now UNC-W has become a little Berkeley and the city has become a haven for makers of kiddie porn. Are you and Tre Benson (over at Blue Line Radio) the only voices of sanity left in "Hounddog Hollow"? Or does Frank Capra, Jr. just reign there as Hollywood's provincial satrap? Some serious "straightening out" seems to be in order! Best wishes.

Preserving Us In Los Angeles
Dear Mountain Rose:

I rarely look over all the comments after I've left a post, but I did this time and noticed your outstanding and insightful postings. Like yourself, I've looked with unabashed horror at what the liberal attitude- spurred on and reflected by the pop culture- has become in regard to children. I long turned a blind eye to it, as have so many. My "epiphany" came in the summer of 2006, when the movie "Hounddog" (made in Wilmington!) was exposed for what it was: The vanguard of Hollywood's first legitimized forays into child pornography. That did it for me!

Since then, I've been commenting frequently on blogs about the importance of this subject and the diresome impact from it that we're already starting to see in subsequent films. One of the main mentors in my education about Hollywood and it's exploitation of kids is Paul Petersen (minororg.com) whose work in this field has been so outstanding. He's there in L.A., too. I live in Houston and run a minor website at "xanga.com/STEVENPILL" where I try to deal with this subject as well as the overall liberal threat to young people.

I can't tell you how great it is to know that there are others out there who are actively fighting for the rights of children to BE children in decent surroundings... and to be allowed to be born in the first place. And you do this from within a major fortress of the Left Coast!

By the way: I never trust the word of anyone who refers to dates as "C.E.", as Len does. I see that subtle secularism all the time out of Hollywood now. All the best to you and a number of other thoughtful posters here.
