When Porn Stars Get Offended

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

When I was in college I was a professional musician. I didn’t write many songs but I used to try occasionally to write very stupid country songs hoping I would eventually write one dumb enough for Garth Brooks to record. I even had an idea for one called “When Porn Stars Get Offended.” (The punch line was: “When porn stars get offended, that’s when I’ll quit loving you”).

But, now, there is little hope my porn star song will ever become a country hit; this because political correctness now dictates that we avoid offending porn stars and prostitutes by helping to dispel myths about their private and professional lives.

In fact, one show dispelling such myths was recently defended by William and Mary President Gene Nichol. President Gene thought the show must be defended on First Amendment grounds regardless of its tendency to offend groups including, but not limited to, Christians. A cross in the campus chapel, however, had to go because it might be deemed offensive to non-Christians.

Believe it or not, the same show that Nichol defended may be coming to a local college or university near you – and it may or may not be funded by your tax dollars. Regardless, it seeks to dispel the “myth” that people who work in the sex industry are “anything short of artists, innovators, and geniuses.” Dubbed the “Sex Worker’s Art Show” it was performed at the following colleges and universities in the month of February of 2007 alone:

Northern Arizona University, College of Santa Fe, Virginia Commonwealth University, College of William and Mary, University of Pennsylvania, Haverford College, Bard College, Wesleyan, The University of Massachusetts - Amhurst, Hampshire College, Sarah Lawrence College, Case Western Reserve University, Kenyon College, and Earlham College.

These shows are intended to offer a diverse perspective on sex work by touching on themes such as prostitute’s rights. The cast of performers includes Miss Dirty Martini (see http://www.sexworkersartshow.com – especially the “performer bio” link) who recently made a cameo in the movie Shortbus, which is probably the best mode of transportation available for those who see the intellectual merits of the diversity movement in higher education. If this is all getting to be too much to believe, please resort to Google to find Miss Dirty Martini’s personal website. There is plenty of supporting documentation there.

Another of the stars of the “Sex Workers Art Show” is named C. Snatch Z. The show describes her as a woman who “strides the world with her dildo harness controlling the human catharsis like a dictator, destroying herself like a revolutionist.” If you have no idea what that means or – like the author of this column – you have no idea what any of this has to do with getting a college education, please Google her name for more information.

Another star, Kirk Read, spent two years performing a tour of 120 cities intent on spreading the gospel of “sexed-up heavy metal queer teenagers.” He has been a long time counselor at the St. James Infirmary, which is San Francisco’s free health clinic for sex workers. St. James offers “free, confidential, compassionate, non-judgmental, drop-in care.” Describing himself as both a “southern gentleman” and a “witch” he works as an apprentice to an organic gourmet chef. But before you let him handle your food, you had better do a Google search to see where his hands have been lately.

Let’s not forget the immensely talented Reginald Lamar. He (I trust he’s not a she) is the former singer of the rock band (not banned) called “The Mutilated Mannequins.” Fusing punk rock with gospel music is one of his talents. He also likes to deeply probe (no jokes, please) issues of race, class, and sex prejudices and taboos.” Before you invite him (her? it?) to your college, Google can help you more deeply probe the issue of his (?) true gender identity.

Last year, when the sex workers art show made a stop at Bucknell University, a “sex worker” rubbed lubricant all over his genitalia. This was done in front of college students, many of whom were merely teenagers. After sponsoring the intellectually slippery event, the Women’s and Gender Studies Department had the audacity to refuse to sponsor a lecture by conservative author Christina Sommers on the grounds that her work lacked intellectual merit.

When I think about certain feminist groups (like the feminists at Bucknell) and certain university presidents (I will not mention a single name: Gene Nichol, Gene Nichol, Gene Nichol) I often think that our universities are being run by a bunch of intellectual whores.

But, fortunately, since I attended the “Sex Worker’s Art Show” I realize that calling someone a “whore” might not constitute defamation of character. It might just be another reason to celebrate diversity.

Great conservative topic
Memorial day and Mike adams writes about porn stars and what he deems offensive. Now I wonder who hates the troops? Dems who go to war or twerps like the town hall talking heads who can't be bothered to mention them.

BH Lib'ral
Perhaps you didn't notice, but this column's official posting date is Tuesday, May 29--the day *after* Memorial day.

BH Liberal--How about Typical Liberal?
First of all, how nice of you to make a gross generalization about Mr. Adams from this one article. Never mind that he shows support for the troops in his articles on a regular basis. I guess none of that matters, huh?

Second of all, your post is an ad hominem attack which not only had nothing to do with the content of the article in question, but is also intellectually invalid as a whole. Here's a link for you to study and learn:

http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/ad-hominem.html

BHL
BHL is merely static and best ignored. I am seeing this more and more on conservative websites, liberal hacks who sign up and then make stupid comments to p*ss everyone off, 9 times out of 10 without having actually read the whole article (they have trouble sounding out words with more than two syllables). pay no mind to the bleeding heart pillow biter.

Trade School
is where my kids are going.

Why spend the $$ on a college 'education'?

Why hate Garth Brooks?
Was the Garth Brooks comment really necessary? After all, he did write "Friends in Low Places". All the rest, I give a hearty Harrumph!

SECULAR AMERICA GETS WHAT THEY ASKED FOR
"In fact, one show dispelling such myths was recently defended by William and Mary President Gene Nichol. President Gene thought the show must be defended on First Amendment grounds regardless of its tendency to offend groups including, but not limited to, Christians. A cross in the campus chapel, however, had to go because it might be deemed offensive to non-Christians."

Great article. I hated your article on how to read the New Testament, but thats for another day.

Does the above quote from this blog surprise anyone at all? Tolerance for the porn industry over Christ?

SMILE AMERICA...Our forefathers would be proud.

my 2 cents
there is probably a muslim fundamentalist out there who is looking for another reason why America must be brought to her knees and this seems like a pretty good one.

Fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.

Michael (Huh?)dgens
Well, I guess you told somebody.

Not sure who, or what the point is, but, boy, you sure told somebody.

And that's all I have to say!

Gene Nichol
Has embarrassed W&M a number of times in his short tenure as President. His brand of “sensitivity” and standards is what makes ordinary people look at Liberals like freak show objects.

When he banned the cross from the Wren Chapel he was dishonest about the reasons he gave.

People like Nichol can only exist in academia, the arts and the press; places that are rapidly becoming ghettos of intellectual incoherence. Unfortunately, while they have an impact on the rest of the community, their excesses are self defeating. They get the kind of scorn that they invite.

no more republican
Every day I thank God that most people like you are not Republicans. Let the Dimwitocrats have you and your inability to think. Feel, buddy, continue to feel, only feel, leave the thinking up to your betters.

No more republicans
So you consider watching someone play with his genitals in public to be educational, and a valid use of tuition funds and tax dollars? Talk about disturbing and sad.

no more republicans

Not for nothing, but I believe Dr. Adams' column was about pornography, sex workers, the inability of our higher education institutions to see the incongruence of promoting promiscuity versus removing Christian symbols, and on and on.

Nothing in there about war, troops, death, oil, etc.

Amazing how moonbats continually attempt to distract from the conversation when the absurdity cannot be defended.

Is that clear enough, or were some of the words too big?

My trip to the Holy Land...
I went on Holy Land tour with my Pastor and about 30 members of our church some years back. It was very interesting to see all the Archeological digs that are taking place there. We observed one sight where they had unearthed a Roman bath house. Our guide went on to explain that this was a popular place for men to come and pick out his favorite ‘lady for hire’ and bathe with her in their own private room. I was watching and listening to the nonverbal and audible communication of my fellow church members and Pastor. I could see their obvious disgust and hear comments of shameful condemnation towards the Romans who built and participated in this place of business. I am not ashamed to admit I love sex and to look at naked women as all heterosexual most men do because this is a natural desire that was built into our anatomy by our Creator. Not to admit this is called denial. I specifically remember saying to the entire group the following statement; “you know, if I did not know Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior you can bet this is exactly where I would be”. You can just imagine the shocked looks I received from fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I am a sinner saved by God’s grace and I am still tempted everyday in the area of sexual sin. The difference between me and most Christians I am not ashamed to admit my weakness to be promiscuous. I address the following blog to you Mike and all “self proclaimed” Christians continue to be critical of those who have not heard the Gospel and accepted Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. Your editorials and prejudicial blogs are chasing potential Christians away from the Cross of Christ because of this I send you loving rebuke to stop immediately. Once someone comes to know Jesus and the Holy Spirit comes into their life then and only then will they clearly see why sexual infidelity is wrong. Please read my following blog posted yesterday on several sights where this judgmental spirit was evident towards those who are not professing Christians.

As Christians, we should never invite controversy when it comes to being an ambassador for the Christian faith. By doing so, we have a tendency to alienate those who do not know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. If someone does not understand the truth found in the “Gospel” it only makes sense for them to follow the logic taught by “secular humanist” which dominates mainstream thinking in the U.S. today…We need to be more compassionate towards those who do not understand this truth!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secular_humanism

The Apostle Paul was called to deliver the “Gospel” to the Gentiles and understood the importance of having his priorities straight. He wrote in his letter to the Church of Corinth (1 Corinthians 15:2-4) the following truth; “For what I received I passed on to you (fellow Christians) as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. Paul also understood the thinking of those who do not know Christ. In verse 18 he writes; “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” Paul knew the importance of making friends and building trust before he shared the “Gospel”. In 1 Corinthians 9:22 he writes; “To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.”

In summary, it should not surprise Christians when we observe the reactions of those who don’t know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. The message of the cross is “foolishness” to them. The only way a person can understand the mindset of a Christian is for that person have a personal relationship with Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. This is when the light is turned on in the heart, mind and soul of unbelievers and now for the first time they can clearly see the deceptions and lies they formally believed to be fact.

Please, as a brother in Christ, I give the following rebuke in love to my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to stop bad mouthing those who do not understand Spiritual matters. As the Apostle Paul said; “First things first preach Jesus and Him crucified”. This is the one and only key that will open the door to understanding absolute truth which does exist for those who do not believe in absolutes.

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)

Yes, of course there are connections; I'm sure you've played the game "Six Degrees of Separation"? There are always connections.

The POINT is that you are not addressing the subject of the column; my point is that when the truth is illuminated, you would rather point somewhere else: "Oh, look--a bird, and I think it's a lark!"

Let me help you come up with an excuse; after all, it's never a liberal's fault: you have Attention Deficit Disorder and you're off your meds.

no more republicans
I take it you have no problem with a guy exposing himself to a bunch of kids. Yes old enough to fight and die but is this what tax money is supposed to go to. Gee if i follow your logic , and there were no more repub's we could have a lot more people exposing themselves at tax payers expense. i look forward to the day!

This country used to have a sense
of propriety. Wherever it came from, churches or just your old man, you learned what was proper behavior in a civilized society.
You opened doors for ladies, you removed your hat in elevators and especially restaurants, you watched your language, eschewed drugs, worked hard, supported those who watched over you as you slept, the military, police officers and firefighters. We didn't give awards to losers for writing "songs" about killing cops or calling women despicible names and extolling drugs to our kids. We arrested their dumbasses. It was good to live in those times.
Now just 50 years later,in liberals wild exuberance to denounce everything that remotely resembled manners and in their great concern for and acceptance of every deviancy and low life behavior imaginable, we now have a country that is barely above 3rd world status.

One jerk just wrote that he is accepting of some other ahole exposing himself to teenagers, you just said it all doofus and made Dr.Mikes point quite nicely. Liberals cannot compete, they must drag everything and everyone down to their level.

Thank you Michael, keep up the good work.

Why is everybody complaining
Look at it this way. With the higher education system the way it is today at least some kids will have something else to add to a resume when they graduate.

If they can't find a job in their chosen career thay always have something else to fall back on. Or they could always find a job as a Dem staffer.

I live in Lewisburg, PA, the very small town where Bucknell is located. Live sex shows are neither legal nor wanted here. I see these very wealthy teenagers driving around in new BMWs and wearing "Buck Fush" t-shirts. You can bet that their parents would be livid if they knew what had transpired. Look, these kids have never learned how to think for themselves and have likely not had any influences outside of the MSM and their extremely liberal professors. All of this adds up to drive them further from God, into the arms of temptation. 18 and 19 year-olds are already obsessed with sex, they don't need an official sanction from their college leaders. BTW, Bucknell is about 45K/year and is private so it is not likely that tax money paid for this filth.

seawolf
great post. Just look at what is said on tv and radio that not long ago would have gotten them fined. Basically everything but the F- word and even that they say but bleep it out in a way that everyone knows what was said. I'm no prude but I have 2 kids and would like things to be heading in a better direction than they are now.

Another great example
of why Americans are so well thought of throughout the world. Christianity has been outlawed from the publi8c arena in favor of public masterbation and homosexual sex acts.

Thank all you silly liberals for making us (US) the laughing stock of the globe.

When tolerance becomes moral inertia
The bar continues to lower. Now we have porn stars performing on college campuses, and anyone who dares to protest is accused of "intolerance".

With the successful obfuscation of the profound difference between respect for the right to an opinion and respect for the opinion itself, the lie and the truth carry equal weight. On a societal basis, this translates into "anything goes", and if you object to it, well, you're an intolerant bigot.

The term "tolerance" is now a euphemism for moral inertia. The object, of course, is to desensitize us to the concept of morality in general, making us far more malleable in the hands of the socialists.

Socialism is not well-served by religious beliefs of any stripe, acknowledging as they do a Power superseding human reason. The socialists know that just about anything can be rationalized, and want to minimize the number of people able to recognize the totally flawed premises from which their reasoning flows.

Having succeeded in co-opting the field of philosophy, they're now at work on co-opting religion. They've made progress: witness Gene Nichol and the many of his ilk who want to remove any semblance of religious imagery from the public arena based upon Jefferson’s “wall of separation”. (That Jefferson used this expression in reference to the wall between federal and state powers, not between church and state, has been conveniently lost, courtesy of Hugo Black in the 1947 Supreme Court decision Everson vs. The Board of Education.)

The more we adjust our thinking to accommodate tolerating the intolerable, the more the intolerable will be forced upon us. We will have finally become morally inert.

no more republicans
Have you checked the price of gas lately? If we are in Iraq for the OIL, where is it?

I think
The point should be the inconsistencies in regulating free expression and offensiveness. I don’t particularly care about a Cross on a chapel and I don’t care about a sex-worker show. As for my tax dollars, I’ve never completely agreed with how they were spent. Dr. Mike should start a student gun or hunting club. He seems to like mowing down animals much more than folks talking about sex.

no more republicans
To answer your question; because we have something you and other silly liberals seem to either know little about, or wish to control: MORALS.

That's foreign to you, we know.

no more repubs
you cant be this dumb! I dont see anywhere on here where people are saying that what consulting adults do is bad. The point of Mikes column is porn stars and guys exposing themselves (an act i thought was illegal) being paid tax money to appear on a campus at the same time saying crosses are forbidden. For that matter any religion is villified except of course the religion of peace.

Dr. Nichols Traveling Fundraising Show
Mike- Let’s be fair! Compared to a lot of the curricula in education today, this traveling sex show has a lot of relevance to life in the U.S. today. It does, in fact, illustrate the foundation of modern Liberalism. There is no crime and there are no criminals, just those of us who cannot see the beauty in such positive life experiences as those demonstrated in this show. In a practical sense, the acts within the show provide more than ample background for one wishing to enter government employment, especially politics. Miss Dirty Martini (the inventor of the Shortbus) would make a natural Secretary of Transportation. Naturally Ms. C Snatch Z sounds like just the ticket for Secretary of Health & Human Services. Kirk Read, in spite of his lack of a creative name, could be the first openly-practicing witch to be named to an important governmental post, the National Endowment for the Arts. Then the Mapplethorpe exhibit could finally be seen, without all of the judgmental complications surrounding allegations of child pornography. (Mr.-Ms-It) Reginald Lamar would be a natural to head up the EEOC. Finally, the star of last year’s Bucknell show, could be elected to the U.S. Senate – perhaps even named Majority Leader. His special lubricating talent could make it even easier for the Senate to push through all of that stupid and harmful legislation in record time.

Taking Leave of Reality
Porn shows on campuses are merely another sign of how far away our supposed "institutions of higher learning" have gone from their original mission.

When college "leaders" openly defend such things, this is a sure sign that the American elite classes have not only abandoned Christian morality and principles, but basic connections to reality as well.

These are, indeed, the Crazy Years.

Your servant,

Lord Karth

NMR
Really? What exactly did I write about sex between consenting adults? There actually is a difference between what two people do in the bedroom versus what one pervert does on a stage, all moral equivalency aside. On the other hand, oil is in huge demand worldwide so the oil companies must pay more. We will continue our dependence on foreign oil until the liberals and tree-huggers get out of the way and let us build new reactors, build new refineries and drill for oil in this hemisphere. Honestly, if it is a war for oil then the environmental lobby created the situation by preventing energy development in the US for over 30 years.

Two Points
1. "The punch line was: “When porn stars get offended, that’s when I’ll quit loving you”). "

2."When I think about certain feminist groups (like the feminists at Bucknell) and certain university presidents (I will not mention a single name: Gene Nichol, Gene Nichol, Gene Nichol) I often think that our universities are being run by a bunch of intellectual whores."

All I can say is ROFLMAO !!!. You're too funny, guy.

I'll second SSGTRET's post
Hear, Hear, Seawolf. I lived in that era also. You are absolutely on the money.

You couldn't get away with anything in that era. If you screwed up EVERYONE kicked your butt.

Everyone was civil. Dems and Repubs believed in the same things. It was only a question of personality, not civility or platform.

Anyone that watched the conventions, in the early 60's with today's political views, couldn't tell the difference between a Dem or a Rep?

What was the diff between Johnson or Goldwater? Or Kennedy and Nixon? There wasn't any.

We were one country and one people. Christmas was respected, and Memorial Day, was sacred.

You didn't talk back to your parents...that's right two parents...one female...one male...unless you liked getting five across the eyes.

You didn't diss your teachers, the cops, firemen or anyone in authority. Doing so would risk the wrath of your family and community. It was simply Un-American to be otherwise inclined.

People use to mock those cool TV shows Like Donna Reed, The Beave, and others. But isn't it interesting that American families of that era tried to emulate those TV Moms and Dads?

Could it be that the TV still has that much influence on society? You bet.

Garbage in, Garbage out.

NMR
I don't believe any of us have said sex is bad. We just don't understand how some mimbo (male bimbo) fondling himself on stage is educational or artistic. Got it? Now you go have yourself a wonderful day.

They don't disappoint
When I saw the topic of Dr. Adams' latest post, I couldn't wait to read the comments to see exactly how the lefties would go off on this one. They don't disappoint. I especially find fascinating how everything returns to a frothing hatred of President Bush, no matter how remote the subject. Tornadoes in Kansas? Blame Bush. Shooting in Virginia? Bush. Porn on campus? Well, that's OK, but let me tell you about Bush...

Free Speech at Planet UMass????

The irony is here - Mike Adams shouted down by transvestites in prom dresses two months before this road show came to campus. And it wasn't disrupted.

The irony is here at Planet UMass where the campus police troll craigslist for potential johns ("to protect the UMass women" as our female police chief states) at the very same time that this roadshow is here.

And our campus infirmary (aka "Death Services") presumes that all female students are pregnant and that all medical concerns are related to pregnancy. Pregnancy causes you to badly twist your ankle (as opposed to playing softball) and the boy who is with you must be abusing you (as opposed to really sorry he ran into you while neither of you were looking).

This is the conseqences of modern higher education. As is the disgrace of our graduation on friday where utter mayhem reigned because one of the people was an evil Republican.

But we can encourage sex workers while arranging stings to arrest their customers. Yep, that sounds logical to me...

And then there was Hampshire College....
Hampshire College, which even has its own SNL skit, once went even beyond this. They had real people totally nude and engaging in real sexual intercourse on the lawn in front of their library. I can't remember exactly what the purpose of this was - and it was a widely publicized event announced in advance - but the *only* concern that the Hampshire College Admin had was potential liability for a transmission of a STD. That their only concern.

At the time, Hampshire was *the* most expensive college in the country.

I am not making this stuff up, as Dr. Adams learned in his visit here, we simply can't make stuff like this up....

0h, and the UMass pro-abortion folk (VOX: students for choice) had "sex on the beach" here in April. Not quite actual sex but every thing but, including toys and such. And this to "protect a woman's right to an abortion." Like, umm, what is it that makes abortions necessary in the first place????

no more republicans,
"If Adams is dumb enough to write a column about the poor young adults who have a chance to be (they aren't forced anywhere) exposed to sex at college then I feel it appropriate to point out the hypocrisy in regards to his stance on war and young people."

What everyone is saying, and you're not getting, is that Adams didn't write a column about what you think he wrote about. He wrote a column that can be boiled down to two points:

1. certain universities have backed this show despite it being offensive to most people as a defense of free speech, and yet have failed to back other things (cross, Christina Sommers) which are not offensive to hardly anyone.

2. certain universities are spending time and money on things that have nothing to do with "higher education" while ignoring things that actually have a place in "higher education" (see Sommers again).

Now, you can disagree with those points. Please do; we might have an interesting and informative discussion then. But don't pick a throw-away line (that was burried in example of one of the two above points) and pretend that's what this column is about. I realize it makes it easier for you to shoot it down, but it makes you look either ignorant (not able to decipher the main idea of a column) or dishonest. By the way, it's fine to take issue with that throw-away line, but acknowledge it for the side issue it is. Just some advice from your friendly neighborhood Cynewulf.

but so was I which made your "I prefer the Marlon Brando quote" opening a little strange... well, it seemed a little strange to me. Kind of implied that mine was from someone else. No matter. And SSGRET, erm, tanks for that addition to the debate, but I'm not sure why you are addressing it at me when all I've done in this thread is quote a line written by John Millius, one of tinseltwon's biggst gun nuts. Still, to each their own... but I'm not sure I've ever advocated detroying all of our weapons. That really is a rather silly idea you've come up with there.

okay, nomorerepublicans, you got it...
I am all ready to refute your statements today.
I will refrain from ad hominem and stick to the facts.
Mike isn't saying that kids shouldn't be exposed to sexuality.
Mike is saying that taxpayer dollars are going towards events like this that expose college aged adults to sex while the very schools that host such an event refuse to allow tax dollars to go towards more conservative efforts - like sponsoring a conservative speaker once in a while.
For some reason, you seem to believe that what Dr. Adams is saying is that sex is bad. I don't believe this to be true.
Now, moving along, you point to the war as a war for oil and look at exxon's profits as proof.
Unfortunately, this is more than likely because of a reliance on bad, ignorant reporting.
Yes. Corporate profits are up - BUT ARE PROFIT MARGINS?
Short answer? No. They are not.
Here's the longer answer.
When a company is in the business of selling a product, they operate by paying close attention to profit margin. See, profit margin varies from industry to industry. For instance, restaurants and bars operate at an average gross profit margin of between 4-6%. Back in the day, when I ran bars and restaurants, I was very successful in lowering my costs and running an extremely efficient business. I managed to get my profit margin to around 11%.
This number, naturally, varies by inductry and product type as well as a number of other factors. Oil companies average around 9-10% profit margin. Compared to banks at around 15%, this is modest.
So in order to prove that oil companies are profiting from oil shortages and a war in Iraq, one would certainly have to point towards an increase in profit margin, not profit dollars, in order to properly make the case. Since the profit margin in the oil business hasn't gone up, this argument is the result of people who are ignorant of basic economic principles and accounting.
If Exxon, or any other oil company, was seeking to profit more or gouge their customers, it would certainly be reflected in an increase in profit margins.
But that's not the case, making your 'war for oil' argument somewhat inneffective.
Another thing to consider:
Oil prices have been artificially increased due to concerns over alternative fuels. That's right! All the talk of ethanol (which is extremely innefficient, has a negative energy yield, and will not make a dent in any measurable way in terms of pollution or cost, but we can get into that later if you would like) has caused investors (that's the folks who buy stock and futures) to be more cautious. This has an effect on the price of crude and the amount of refining a company is willing to initiate. Additional factors that effect gas prices are: seasonality changes (there are multiple types of gasoline refinded for different areas of the country every time summer comes around - thanks to liberal legislation), a lack of new rigs to drill for oil (again, thanks to liberal legislation), and the volatility of the world's oil suppliers.
To dive even further into the matter, taxes account for a large chunk of what you pay at the pump. For instance, and I think these numbers are a bit outdated, I live in Illinois. In my state, 37.4 cents per gallon goes towards state taxes, with more going towards federal taxes. An additional 6.25% of sales tax is charged for every purchase.
This means that at a fuel cost of $3.75 per gallon (which is what I paid at the pump) and 13 gallons of a fill up (again, I just did this) costs me approximately $51.80. Of this, 3.05 is sales tax and 4.86 is state tax. an additional 18 cents per gallon is levied federally, adding $2.34. So, for my fill up I paid $10.25 in taxes. This works out to an additional 78 cents per gallon in cost to me. Take that off of the $3.75 a gallon I paid, and my fuel costs per gallon are around $3 a gallon.
How much does the big bad oil company make in profit? 5.9 cents per dollar. On my $51.80 - almost $5.18.
Let's compare that to my restuarant. The same $51.80 spent on food and drink gave me an average profit of about $5.70.
So before we try to hop on the bandwagon here and blame oil companies for the price of gas, we have to take a moment to understand that for every dollar in sales, oil companies only profit around 10 cents. Which is not evidence of gouging nor is it evidence of a war for oil.

Mamadoc's comment on "Moral Inertia"
Thank you for one of the most succinct explanations of what liberal moral relativism is doing to our discourse, our morality, and our country. I will, with your permission, use what you have written in the future.

I’m from that time too, and while many things are decidedly different today, I think you are suffering from “good-old-days” syndrome.

You could get away with plenty.

Politics could quickly become uncivil and the difference in parties was at times stark.

We have never been one country and one people.

Not many talked back to there parents, but some sported bruises on a regular basis and no one said anything about that either.

There was always civil strife throughout the first half of the 20th century.

Donna Reed, The Beave were just as bad as most of the TV we have today and only an idiot would try to emulate what everyone knew was a completely unrealistic depiction of mom, dad and family life.

I don't for a minute
believe that "things were the same" back in the 50's with "The Beave ('Hey Waaallly')" and now. So many people just dismiss that time as being the same as today except "nobody talked about it." Bull. Divorce was still seen as bad. Sex outside marriage was still seen as bad. Even drinking beer on the cliffs of Lake Michigan was still seen as bad as my brothers found out when the cops brought them home. That was the easy part. Then they had to face my mom and dad. Walking to and from school (and yes, I DID walk a mile to and from school)was a walk through hundreds of eyes. Every mom (who was home raising the kids)was watching. People worked hard, played hard, prayed much. No one was really rich--a community of honest, hard working people. Helping and watching out for each other.
Except for the atheists, I think everyone can agree that satan is alive and well in this country. The Democrats used to be a decent party, but went totally bad. Thought they were being "progressive." Instead, this country has denigrated and denigrated to the point we're at today.
Now people like Bill Maher can equate the Eucharist to gay sex and get away with it (i.e. Maher: "We weren’t having sex, officer. I was performing a very private Mass, here in my car. I was letting my rod and staff comfort him. Take this and eat of it, for this is my roommate Barry...and for all those who believe there is a special place for you in Kevin.")
Yup. Times are definitely different. But not for the better.

Same Old Liberals
I see Memorial Day didn't make Liberals any smarter. They are still Sex-Obsessed Dimwits.

Jim Mcgreevey vs Mark Foley
That is the bottom line on Liberals vs Conservatives.
Foley was vomited forth!
McGreevey gets booked on Oprah!
I suggest all Liberals immigrate to Holland, at least all the Drug Addicted, Sexual Perverts will be isolated in 1 country!

georgetwin
Interesting that you should think the Dutch are drug addicted perverts. Ever been there? Teenage pregnancy rates are nine times higher in the US than in Holland. It has a rape rate one third of the US. The use of hard drugs per head of population is far lower in the Netherlands than in most Western countries, including Britain and substantially lower than in the US. While pornography is widely available in the Netherlands (and postitution is legal, as it is in Nevada for example), again the US is head and shoulders above anywher else in terms of how much is spent on pornography and how much is produced, certainly in comparison to the Netherlands. So, there's just a handful of reasons why you are talking out of where the sun don't shine.

Sex between consenting adults
should not be reproached? We might as well just be animals!

The Good News
The good news in all this is that it demonstrates beyond any doubt the utter intellectual bankruptcy of the American Left.

Let me count the ways:
1) people who work in the sex industry are “artists, innovators, and geniuses.” At what?
2) C. Snatch Z is "a woman who 'strides the world with her ... harness controlling the human catharsis like a dictator, destroying herself like a revolutionist.'" This must be what happens when leftists sing one too many verses of "Kumbaya."
3) "I (Mike Adams) often think that our universities are being run by a bunch of intellectual whores." I (REL) think that the word "intellectual" simply does not apply, and the word "whore" may be too mild.

I call upon all real Americans and all real Christians to begin training to make citizens' arrests of all leftist and Democrap activists during the upcoming campaign. These individuals have not only long since forfeited any claim to rationality, they simply have not the remotest chance of ever reaching it. They MUST be kept OUT of power.

Answer to No More Republicans...

Quote from No More Republians: Why are you people so bothered by consensual sex among adults? I mean that honestly. I have to go to work and can't respond until later but I am curious about the specifics as to why you think sex is so bad. I understand-sort of- why you don't like gay sex. But the honest expression of sexual desires between a man and a woman is, in my opinion, such a beutiful thing that it should be celebrated rather than shunned.

NoMoreRepublicans:
I’m going to assume that you are asking a serious question and will answer you seriously. That means--no insults from me and please no insults back from you. Okay?

First, you need to know that I’m a born-again Christian so that is my mindset in answering your question as I see it. I feel, like you, that sex between a man and a woman is indeed a beautiful thing and it should be celebrated frequently and never shunned! It is a gift from God. However, as a Christian, I believe that it should be celebrated between a married couple only and in the privacy of their bed. My husband is my best friend (my soul mate if you will) and to spend that time privately with him is truly wonderful and beautiful and the best there is.

To hear that someone is masturbating in front of strangers—young, impressionable students—is frankly obscene. It is taking a most beautiful gift from our Creator and coarsening it and making it cheap, vulgar, and ugly. People used to teach this to their children, but now it seems no one remembers these basic facts of decency any more.

Incidentally, another negative result of these lewd acts being done in public is that they are also one of the reasons Islamofascists say they hate America. So even our enemies (who are so disgusting themselves that they enjoy chopping people’s heads off) recognize how damaging these types of public displays are!

I hope this helps.

Critical Bill
That was my point! If Liberals are in favor of such things, go to Holland where they are readily available!

Agreed

>Have you checked the price of gas lately? If we are in Iraq for the OIL, where is it?

Just more proof that the war in Iraq really is a failure!

Wow
I had to go back and remind myself what the article was about.

Truetolife: As I said, “many things are decidedly different”. However, every period has its good parts and bad parts. No time is particularly better than another and no generation is particularly greater than another. The ‘good-old-days syndrome’ is usually the result of nostalgia or inadequate historical perspective. For example, anyone who believes that we were ever one country and one country and one people is kidding themselves. Consider your comment that the Dems used to be a decent party. Some bloggers here have called FDR the biggest commie in US history. Others point out how staunchly the Dems held onto segregation. Here we have perception in action.

Georgetwin: It seems that Memorial Day hasn’t made you any smarter either as your insight is just as narrow as ever.

Robert E Lee: (I never know if that is your name or you are inadvertently dishonoring a great man) Your solution teeters on betrayal of what is most important about our system of government. If someone is engaging in illegal activities, then by all means report them. Otherwise, you are must be joking.

Folks: only Lucygoosey seemed to answer seriously while others are making cheep jokes abut sex. The whole point is the inconsistency of college forums, a favorite of Adams. Even he knows that story had to be revved up to make it more interesting

Who are They Really
Mr. Gene Nichol of W&M has drawn a lot of controversy.

As an example, who is Gene Nichol i.e. is he a married man or is he a homosexual, a bisexual or someone that is being blackmailed based on sexual exploits? When people are quoted the journalists never dig deep enough to identify a persons real agenda or why they really act as they do.

Another example, the ACLU is headed by a Gay(Romero). It should be no surprise why they fight for the agenda of Gays to destroy greater societies basic family traditions and health.

WOW
WISKEY, TANGO, FOXTROT, OVER!!!!!!!!! I just do not get what is happening at these places of HIGHER LEARNING or is LEANING?

is wrong again. Where has any of us indicated that sex is ugly, and that only a pervert would engage in it, never mind enjoy it?

I've said it before, I'll say it again:

Nobody cares WHAT you do in the PRIVACY of your home or peepshow booth or WHO you do it with as long as your partner is of legal age. But men like you will never knowingly be permitted to date our daughter, either.

By the same token, NOBODY wants to see people publicly using their bodies as amusement parks. We are all "aware" that people have sex. We don't particularly feel we need to be all that informed about others' particular sexual practices or behaviors, however. It is none of our business, as is so often and loudly proclaimed by the "free sex" crowd, who then proceed to show us how much it's none of our business by parading it on stage and demanding we fund it. Especially do we not want to be forced to fund this sort of activity in the name of "art" or "academic freedom" or anything else.

It doesn't take watching an obscene stage show to convince any but the most obtuse among us that sex IS fun, DOES feel good, and is in fact all it is meant to be when enjoyed as the icing on the cake of a committed marital relationship.

What on earth does oil have to do with the subject at hand, since Wesson is not made from petroleum...?

We could have had the oil over there in our hands within three weeks if oil is what this war is really all about.

My wife, bless her heart, .
has been wondering for four years now, why don't we just trounce the middle eastern nations soundly and get on with taking the oil. I have to admit, with all the idiots clamoring about our terrible "imperialist" actions, that it would solve many problems if we actually WERE imperialistic.

As to sex shows on campus, when I was in school in beantown, the administration would go no further than telling us which train to get to the combat zone, and even then, we bought our own transit passes. The rule was, my drink was $4, a drink for a dancer was $7. I was taken once as initiation, and took someone once for the same purpose. No tax dollars were used, and while I enjoy a good hetero romp as much as the next guy, I never found it truly entertaining as a spectator. THAT is a lesson too few learn: sex is not a spectator sport, art, or intellectual endeavor. Never was, never will be!

That is not to say,. .
it isn't beautiful, gratifying, and downright enjoyable!

Contradiction in terms
Oddly, or not, so-called libs. have donned Puritan collar-bibs and are waving about scarlet letters to denounce smoking, trans fats, refined sugar, SUV's, BIG OIL, red meat, any corporation--esp. if it makes money, private property, incandescent lightbulbs, private medical practice, and dolls with buttons for eyes all in the name of SAFETY and the CHILDREN. Concerning sex, where 1 in 7 college students has incurable genital herpes, 50,000 AIDS patients of any age die yearly, 1,00,000 fetuses are flushed down the drain, and women in their 30s are suffering an infertility epidemic, libs. cannot get enough SEX. When I was a kid, there was three venereal diseases. Now there are 56, and so that they'll be less painful, their names are STDs. Libs. can never get enough sex, not just their own experiences but the constant display and exhibition of sex. Sex. Sex. Sex. I'm surprised it isn't someone's campaign slogan. It would be short and sweet and really catchy in between the tv adds for failing penises and the peculiar hermit's avowed disinterest.

renny, absolutely yes.

You wrote: "That is a lovely way to make a good point. Not everyone feels that way. I believe that if no sentient being is harmed then sexual behavior that you and I might consider scary or freakish should be allowed among consenting adults."

If NO SENTIENT BEING IS HARMED??????????

You're either completely ignorant or completely dishonest. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and call it ignorance.

The West is in the middle of a serious, civilization-threatening, full-bore epidemic of SEXUALLY transmitted diseases. One study in the UK found that nearly half of young women will contract HPV DURING THEIR FIRST SEXUAL EXPERIENCE. Yes, you read that right. Read it again. Nearly half of young women in the UK today will contract HPV, a precursor to cervical cancer that can affect reproductive ability, during their FIRST SEXUAL EXPERIENCE. There were two common venereal diseases in 1960; there are more than 50 now, and many of them don't respond to penicillin. Moreover, the massive increase in teenage depression is very clearly linked to earlier sexual experiences. And if all this weren't enough, the continent of Africa is displaying for all of us what happens when a culture throws away all traces of sexual restraint -- 1 in 3 is carrying the AIDS virus, and millions are dying.

And you think the proliferation of sexual content in public has nothing to do with this???????????? You're still pretending "sex harms no sentient being"????????? My GOD, will you please get a CLUE?????????

Man, public sexual content has EVERYTHING to do with it. We parade sex in front of our children, and talk about how wonderful it is, and talk about how free everybody should be with it -- and then we wonder why they're doing it at younger ages, when they're more susceptible to viruses, more easily swayed by peer opinion, more readily depressed?

It's not a matter of how we feel about it. It's a matter of the survival of the human species. The liberated sexual ethic you espouse is bringing humanity to the point of self-annihilation. This is not an exaggeration.

And the cure is obvious. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that venereal disease could be stamped out in a single generation if we'd just practice marital fidelity and premarital abstinence. Which is EMINENTLY achievable.

Hate to break it to you, punkin, but the "sexually repressed" religious "prudes" were RIGHT.

you IDIOTS!
This column is HILARIOUS! This guy didn't do his homework AT ALL! He's also printing slander, and he better hope that no one from the show sees this, cause what he's accusing them of is illegal and a patent lie. I have seen this three times, and I was present at the Bucknell show. There has never been any 'slathering' of any kind of lubricant on naked male genitals in this show. Give me a break. This loser pulled the most 'shocking' sounding pieces out of these performers' bios, and then insulted them with grade-school level insults like 'who knows where his hands have been', and 'is he a man or a lady'. What an intellectual giant! Any one could check out the site and see that the show includes:
4 published writers- two of them award-winning authors (one of whom writes for the New York Times, the LA Times, the Believer, the Village Voice, and dozens of others). A woman who has
presented papers at places such as the United Nations and the American Philosophical Association. A Yale graduate, a Northwestern
University PhD, a Stanford lecturer, and a recipient of the Stegner Fellowship at Stanford. An artist who was accepted to both the
prestigious Whitney Biennial and the Venice Biennale, and who has won artist-in-residency status at several highly respected arts
institutions. There are also less accredited performers, women who have worked the streets and gone on to organize support programs for other street workers to help get them out of their dangerous situations. Looks a bit less titillating, huh?
Of course, it's much better at whipping the masses into a frenzy to call it a 'sex show', but it is actually a discussion of the intricacies and complications of the economic and social forces at play in this much-patronized but ill-understood industry.
Are you aware, Mr. Adams, that the sex industry in the United States alone is estimated to be a TEN BILLION DOLLAR A YEAR industry? Are you aware, with all your amazing googling skills, that that is more than the receipts of professional baseball, football, and hockey COMBINED? Does it really make sense for us as a nation to ignore the industry, and pretend like it doesn't exist? An interesting proposition for republicans, considering so many of them were found in the DC Madam's list of clients! This show doesn't 'promote' prostitution- it looks at all sides of the industry including negative ones, and attempts to give a better understanding of an issue and a group of people who, like it or not, are a HUGE portion of society.
I wonder why Mike Adams is so scared of presenting a full picture of what this show is about? Maybe cause it doesn't fit his pathetic knee-jerk liberal-bashing framework? How about giving your readers some intellectual credit, and not wasting everyone's time with sloppy journalism. Take Adams' advice, and google the show itself. You'll find it's not the circus of iniquity he's painted it as.

Dr. Adams...
... must be laughing his butt off right now. The far-left nutcases always swoop in when the conservative mind get too close to the truth.

Great article, Mike... disturbing, though.

Come again?

Now we know you're lying.

"You'll find it's not the circus of iniquity he's painted it as."

Your right, its a wonderful industry that contributes greatly to American society. Only the most upstanding citizens are accepted into their realm. No mention of how that Cross was removed but the sex workers allowed to stay, with the same amendment claimed in both moves? He is an idiot because he may have gotten the part about the lubricant on the genitals wrong? Give me a break man.

"published writers- two of them award-winning authors (one of whom writes for the New York Times, the LA Times, the Believer, the Village Voice, and dozens of others)"

Did you take a look at which rags you mentioned here? The most liberal papers in the whole country, how does that lend any credibility to what you are saying? No one respects a word that comes out of any of those.

"his show doesn't 'promote' prostitution- it looks at all sides of the industry including negative ones,"

Im sorry what are the positive looks?

and dear inkiling_revival
I assume you voted for the brilliant administration who has taken an abstinence only approach to sex education as a way to address the rampant std problem? Are you aware that that was Regan's policy in the 80's and that that sort of policy is largely why we are in this position today? Go take a gander at one of the HIV pamphlets from that era- you'll find a bunch of garbage endorsed by then-surgeon general C. Everett Koop saying the best way to stop the disease is by (no joke!) having grandparents caution their grandchildren against extramarital sex. There is no discussion of condoms of other methods of protection.
Well, of COURSE families should explain to children the risks of having underage, unprotected sex. But people have always had sex out of wedlock. Always will. Our best bet, as stewards of the young generations' health, is to teach them about abstinence as an option- and to give them tools to keep themselves safe if they don't choose abstinence. And abstinence programs shouldn't just be about scare tactics, they also need to focus on teaching kids to have self-esteem and self-respect so they won't get into situations that are risky for their health.

Been awhile since I've been here
but Mike is still as good as ever.

Its hard to believe education is where it is.

What did your last post have to do with anything you were challenged on?

Colleges Veer Left for '07 Speakers
The conservative group conducts the review each year using the U.S. News & World Report ranking of top schools. This year, it found left-leaning speakers outnumbered conservatives by a ratio of 8-to-1.

"It's not that there's a few cases here and there. It's that there's a consistent pattern where conservatives are shunned," said Jason Mattera, spokesman for YAF. "For 14 years, we've shown that college administrators are using commencement ceremonies to send their students off with one more predictable leftist lecture."

Hooking should be legal in all 50 states and should have been all along. If it's good enough for Jerusalem, it's good enough for Provo, Utah.

It's an open secret that kollijes are marxist breeding grounds where ivory tower eggheads who can't cut it in the real world tell lies all day to young minds by appealing to their callow egos.

When I was young....
I swear to you, I remember that in my college years, the feminists were hardcore AGAINST pornography and prostitution. They saw these things (and not innaccurately) as exploitation of (primarily) women. One of the feminist/abortion groups even got together with the Campus Coalition for Christ to rally against the "sex industry." This was a while ago, but it was not the freakin' stone ages, it was 1987.
