Kent State University now has another problem on its hands. A member of the Ku Klux Klan who just recently was found operating a hate website (www.KillTheNegroes.com) has now been identified as a history professor at Kent State. The site has been closed but the controversy still looms because of some comments the professor has posted on blogs under the name “Lover of Anglos” while using his Kent State email address.

Some examples of the vile postings follow:

These posts, which can all be linked to Kent State History Professor Julius Piner are very troubling. But what is more troubling is that Kent State seems to be defending him. One humanities professor said the following:

“If the constitution protects anything it protects the right to express offensive views. I don’t see what all the fuss is about.”

One of Piner’s colleagues in the History Department said the following:

“I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. To my knowledge, he hasn’t actually killed any Negroes.”

And, finally, here is what a Kent State spokesperson had to say about Piner:

“Julius Piner was not actually linked to the site, ‘Kill the Negroes,’ nor did he use any university resources when he was not operating it. Furthermore, there is no evidence that he ever advocated killing Negroes in his class lectures. We all have to remember that academic freedom is an important part of university life, even when we disagree with the views being expressed.”

Of course, many disagree with Kent State’s defense of Piner. Some of the most compelling reasons follow:

1. The “Kill the Negroes” site contained essays calling for the cleansing and purification of society via the mass murder of blacks.

2. Piner distributed videos on the website showing the actual lynching of blacks.

3. Piner circulated instructions on how to bomb black churches in the South.

4. Piner circulated a “battle dispatch” to give people specific information on America’s most “notorious” black churches.

Such a neat article. Also amazing most here don't get it. First, Kent State would never allow a KKK person as a teacher but it seems most folks missed the way too stricking similarities with the jihadist. Good work and hopefully got some folks thinking.

Response to the Amanda Garrett article
I posted a repsonse to the Amanda Garrett article about Pino in today's Cleveland Plain Dealer. You can find the link to her article and my response at my blog. There's just too much to write here and I can't upload screen shots to a townhall comment box.

The Garrett article is disappointingly sympathetic to Pino - not exceptionally so - but in my opinion, Amanda spent too much time doing a biographical sketch and no time exposing his actual writings. So, I decided enough tiptoeing around the issue.

It is you assertion that because the site was taken down before I could visit it that I have to suspend my intelligence as the content of the site when the CONTENT has been widely reported through numerous sources of all political persuasions and the CONTENT has not been denied by anyone? That's some good logic. Basically, EVERY criminal could get away with crimes, regardless of the amount of eyewitnesses if only they can destroy all physical evidence. I think I'll rest my case
None of the citizens who are calling for Pino's head have seen what he allegedly wrote. I did manage to get to Global Jihad before it was taken down. I could find nothing that could be linked to Dr. Pino. All I was left with was Adams inflammatory hyperbole. The only personally vouched for item I could find against Pino was the ROTC student who said he was "mocked" by Pino for wearing his uniform to class. That is a far cry from what Adams alleged and constitutes the total verifiable case against Pino. He mocked an ROTC student. It must have been some mocking. Every other count against Pino can countered with: I post to a conservative website, therefore I am conservative. He posted to a radical website, therefore he is radical.

I am glad that Fletch thinks that the FBI, CIA, NSA, Homeland Security et al are all incompetent. I tend to think they do the best job they can under trying circumstances, the first amendment not being one of the trying circumstances.

Flame, did you personally read anything by Dr. Pino on that website? I am asking you personally. I don't want to hear what other people know, but what you know. I notice you did not say so in your post.

Did you go to the site when it was first mentioned last year? Or even after Dr. Adams wrote about it here? Did you do a simple backtrack on the poster's info?

Many people have done this and it returned with Pino's KSU email address. This has been explained to you several times yet you keep whining about no proof. I suppose you also whined about Dan Rather being viscerated without proof even after it was proven that his alleged documents were from MS Word and not from a typewriter, let alone the other problems with the story. Or perhaps whining about corrupt Republicans while Sandy Burgler was stealing and destroying documents.

You are a perfect example of a liberal: 1) unable check for yourself, 2) unable to understand simple English, 3) unable to compose a rational thought, 4) unable to debate the issue at hand.

The contents of the site aren't even
in question. No one has even denied that the site said what has been contended. Not Kent State, not anybody. Basically, there were several posts in here with you(BHL) claiming there was no evidence the guy wrote the stuff and now, suddenly, you've shifted the argument to whether or not the stuff was even written(BY ANYONE!!!). This really is funny because it reminds me of a point I often make about liberals and why arguing with them is like wrestling with a pig. I often tell people to imagine a liberal and a conservative are in a building, hear an explosion, and walk out to see a car up in flames. The debate should be about what blew the car up. But, if the at any point in the argument, it appears to the liberal that another liberal blew up the car you can reliably expect that the liberal will try and argue about whether the car was even blown up!!!!

Heaven forbid that a college professor be canned for practicing racism and bigotry and for advocating violence against a stereotyped group. In this case the compulsive defenders include not only BHL, but a KSU humanities professor, one of Piner's history department colleagues, and KSU spokesman Ron Kirksey.

The FBI and Homeland Security are so stupid and incompetent that they have allowed a Jihad training site to remain unchallenged for over a year. Allowed it to disseminating news, literature, tactics, and directly advocate the murder of American soldiers and citizens. The FBI, Homeland Security, NSA, CIA and every other security organization in this country have allowed a philosophic supporter (maybe even financial supporter) of radical Islam to freely walk around and spread this treason and sedition. Have I got all that right? Are all those agencies and employees that incompetent?

Does Kent State Have a Human Resources
Department? Should they all be fired? Actually, the First Amendment has been parsed and proscribed in many dozens of ways over a couple hundred years. You can't make terroristic threats. They are felonies. You can't yell "Fire!" in a theatre. You can't call for the violent overthrow of the gov't or the burning of the administration building at Up U. Such activity is called "material disruption" and is also felonious. You can't give gov't secrets to an enemy, or even an ally, if they are marked "secret" et. al. You can't libel someone with outright lies so that they lose the ability to earn a living, are held up to ridicule in the community, or lose professional standing in their careers, if the lies are malicious and reckless, unless he/she is deemed a "public" person like Cher or local football coach whose name is regularly published. Then, it's open season. You cannot legally (altho' sometimes in these valueless times it's more theoretically) publish or broadcast child pornography, broadcast the seven words proscibed by the FCC on radio or tv, in any media identify rape victims or children (protected by the confidentiality of their ages), or reveal juvenile perpetrators in reports--although the juvenile ban is often more journalistic ehtics than exact first amendment law. No one on campus or virtually any where else has total first amendment immunity. Most people are governed by their own good sense of manners and social interaction. Some people are simply anti-social psychopaths who can only be controlled once they actually commit a physical crime. In the US, thoughts are not censored, actions are. However, most schools and universities have in place codes of ethics employees are supposed to follow. If those codes prohibit "hate" speech, academics who publish jihadist or racist or other "hate" material can be in breach of ethics and proceeded against by either the department they teach in or by the central adminstrastion that employs them. Alumni often have greater influence in a conflicted instance than the actual people in authority on a campus. ALumni mean money and money talks.

I have no idea whether this Julius Piner exists or not. The fact that I and others might accept his really being at Kent State is the scary thing.

So is Julio Pino.

Free speech is free speech. That's very true. But I'm tired of that phrase being used by people to justify all sorts of anti-everything talk.

Tenure at universities should not be permanent. That's ridiculous. Control over those who teach our children is non-existent. Anyone who exhibits hate speech or activities based on it should be drummed out immediately. If a hearing is to be held, let the prof be banished first and then have his hearing to consider reinstatement. Allowing people to remain in their influential positions while being investigated is wrong.

I know this goes somewhat against the innocent until proven guilty concept, but we're talking about our children's minds. And you people advocating a "living constitution" should consider this problem.

Why can't a college professor just teach history based on facts with a reasonable opinion instead of radical ones with a brainwash attempt.

Don't bother berating me. I've lived long enough to see the damage these people do. Something has to be done to remove them. And as long as we're at it, how about forcing the universities more to the center of the political spectrum? That's where they should be anyway. Otherwise, how is a student to become educated in the use of his brain and free will?

Dan Rather, icon of the left, MSM journalist, reported that GW was a flake in his military duty. He then produced the documents to back up his claim. You on the right quickly found them to be false.

Adams has produced nothing. He has not reprinted anything he alleges Pino wrote. He has not shown Pino's direct connection to any written item. What he has is Pino saying he had posted to the site.

You would not believe me if I were to allege Adams was posting postive remarks to a NAMBLA site. Something that heinous would require proof, justifiably. That is all I'm asking. Where is the Proof?

Because I've read some of your early posts and we actually agree. You have said that the First Amendment kicks in when the GOVERNMENT tries to punish people for their speech or viewpoints, but the First Amendment offers no protection whatsoever against private citizens' REACTIONS to such speech.

I agree with that completely, and my post even says I do. So exactly where is your problem with my post?

Is it that I say human beings (white or black) should be judged on the content of their character rather than on their race? And that I think people who advocate genocide have inherently weak characters?

Or is it that I say students should take a stand against bigoted and narrow-minded professors? Well, shouldn't they? If Ward Churchill had spewed his nonsense about the 9/11 victims having "had it coming" because they were "little Eichmanns" IN THE CLASSROOM, wouldn't students -- particularly students who had been touched personally by that tragedy -- have had a right to be enraged and to express that anger? Now, of course I don't advocate a tiny group of students having the right to get a prof fired. (See the termination of the prof who used the word "niggardly" in a lecture as an example of student power taken to a ridiculous extreme.) Campus administrations should weigh student grievances very cautiously before making a decision. But a person who spews racist filth -- whether he be white or black -- is not government-protected against the consequence of losing his job.
It seems to me that you've said the same thing; you have the right to free speech, yes, but you must also assume the RESPONSIBILITY for said speech and be prepared for people's reactions.

So where do we disagree?

My post was in response to "Good for him." This Klansman is no hero; it shocks me that any sensible TH poster would praise him.

So Black professors call for the elimination of Whites and are allowed to get away with it?

They SHOULDN'T be allowed to get away with it. It is WRONG that they are allowed to get away with it. I agree with the earlier poster who pointed out that the First Amendment only protects those with "offensive views" against punishment from the State; it does not protect the speaker from the sanctions of private citizens. I know that if I were a student and knew of a Black professor who regularly called for the elimination of the White race, I would encourage as many of my fellow students as possible to boycott this bigot's classes and make our dissatisfaction with him known to the college administration. Throw the Bum Out!!

Now, we have this White professor calling for the elimination of the Black race -- and we have posters here who claim that since Black genocide advocates are allowed to get away with it, this White genocide advocate ought to be allowed to get away with it, too.

In short, they have the following equation:
1 WRONG + 1 WRONG = RIGHT.

Kent State Reeducation Camp
Kent State makes me wonder whatever happened to the Classical Western Civilization Education. To me, thanks to the research Dr. Adams has been doing into the activities of its faculty, it appears to be little more than a fascist (name your own) reeducation camp.

That this place and its non-terminable employees are supported by the US federal and Ohio state taxpayers is appalling enough but what's even worse is that brazenly anti-US and anti-social solicitation and proselytizing activities and the impact they have on impressionable youth are defended by the Kent State administration! And these are mature adults?

I guess hate speech only exists in the ear of the beholder.

Still trying to lynch Julio Pino, Mr. Adams has posted a mock column about julius piner the avowed make believe racist.

I asked before, in several posts, where was the proof that Pino wrote what was alleged, and what did he write. Adams has one again failed to produce anything with Pino's name on it. When are you Fringe Freak Bible fundamentalist gun toting fools going to gain an ounce of common sense?

The only thing I can assume from Adams unfounded rants is that Kent State must have refused to hire him as a lecturer and this is his way of payback.

Once again, Adams has made a lot of charges, but he has produced squat in evidence.

I am reminded of a trip to Washington D.C.; I was sitting near the Washington monument when a black women rolled up with her wagon that had a P.A. system on it and started preaching about how what were to blame for all her problems and that they should either pay to solve her problems or be killed.

The outrage you display was the point of this satire. When Julio Pino, who IS a professor at Kent State, is caught operating a website that advocates jihad, the killing of American's, and terrorism as ideology for change, the university backed him and people, for the most part, remained silent.

You said it so well. You remind me of the Dixie Chicks whining. They feel free speech means they can say any foolish thing they want. She's basically right. However, our freedom of speech allows us to disagree and tell Natalie Maines what a moron we think she is. And I don't buy things from people I don't like. The DC and Natalie say we are trying to stifle their free speech. Nope. We are reacting to their free speech and exercising our right of free speech.

Have you seen her on TV? I saw her on a late night show and had to turn it off after 5 minutes. This is a woman with the IQ of a sixth grader. After 2 days, I'd have to leave from her bed screaming in horror.

What is Free Speech?
Mike does a great job as always getting to the core.

I would like to comment on free speech. Free speech is a First Amendment right. It starts out, “Congress shall make no law…… abridging the freedom of speech…..” Now the grantors are the people and the restriction is specifically on the Feds making a law.

Let me put this in perspective, when FDR called up the publisher of Taylor Caldwell to have them stop publishing her anti-communist books and also called up the network that broadcasted Smoot’s anti-communist programs, FDR did not have congress make a law. When you are told by city council to sit down because they don’t want to hear your rant, the DC congress critters didn’t create a law. If a University wants to ban speech, as most do when it doesn’t conform to the PC agenda, that is their business. I don’t think my Fed tax dollars should be held hostage to these Universities, but that is a different issue.

McCain-Feingold however does make a law to ban for a limited time certain types of money from free speech and is specifically the point of such 1st amendment issue. I won’t argue the merits, but point out that free speech involves congress critters making laws regarding political speech, not some guy’s rants at city council or some University.

To sum it up, the first test is did our DC masters make a law and the second test is does it abridge my free speech. And I don’t believe that demanding I have equal time on Air America or Rush is a free speech issue as I have no right to force somebody to pay for my free speech, nor am I deprived of going out on the street corner to shout my political views, even though I am rejected by the local rag’s editorial page the radio.

'Hate speech' and 'fighting words'
'Free speech','hate speech' and 'fighting words' have become expressions that some politicians bandy about like 'civil rights' -- one way traffic only -- protected for some but not others.

True 'rights' must be applied across the board EQUALLY. If not, then such become 'privileges' or 'government benefits' to be defined, granted, limited, or taken away -- but always controlled -- by 'government' and not 'unalienable'.

The Declaration of Independence described the then existing 'government' like this: "The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny..."

King George III was essentially 'the government' that was ignoring the rights of some, albeit mostly American colonists, in order to protect his power while mollifying the complaints of those whose support he needed.

The writer of the Declaration -- Thomas Jefferson -- pointed out that 'Rights' came from the Creator -- not politicians who populated 'government'. By stating, "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed" he made it clear that 'the People' were the Employer and 'government' was the EMPLOYEE.

Obviously, the Constitution was written to protect the Citizens ("We, the People of the United States of America") from the government making law or policies that even approached or were similar to the long list of 'repeated injuries and usurpations' cited in the Declaration.

Just as obviously, we have some people who demand, as did King George III and his supporters, that some citizens must give up certain rights and property (by force of law) in order to provide for others to be 'empowered' --or some other buzz word. These folk demand for 'their own' those very things they deny to others.

Dr. Adams has written many columns describing this attitude regarding 'Administrators' of schools of higher learning. In particular and most often, UNC Wilmington, but others have crossed his sights and he reported -- in varying styles -- on those who preach 'tolerance and diversity' while at the same time PRACTICING intolerance to views that are 'diverse' to their own.

Apparently, Dr. Adams does not recognize tyranny in any form as a 'right', nor 'indoctrination' the same as 'education'. I guess he just describes B/S as B/S and hypocrisy as hypocrisy, a lot of folks don't like that. Even though such a descriptions are also 'free speech', some would like it to be declared 'hate speech' and possibly 'fighting words'.

I don't think anyone has said that Kent State can not take action against the proffesor. Freedom of speech means that the US government can not do "prior censorship" and can not take action afterwards except under a limited set of circumstances.

The issue isn't about free speech
Kent State is a state university, supported by Ohio tax dollars. The separation of church and state is the "cause de jour" of the liberal faith. So too should be the separation of hate speech and tax-supported government institutions, like Kent State. And alumnae of those schools should stop donating money to the schools which employ professors that are indoctrinating their children with subversive garbage.

Caveat
Actually, in this guy's case, you can almost make an argument for his arrest but still, in any case, until the government is taking action against his speech, there is no constitutional issue at all.

Freedom Of Speech and the Constitution
I am continually amazed at people's constitutional ignorance. The constitution protects you from the GOVERNMENT in regards to free speech. Apparently, most Americans believe incorrectly that the constitution protects them from OTHER people's FREEDOM to REACT to their speech. You see, you are free to say what you like but I am also free to NOT associate myself with your speech. For example, I am free to decide that by employing you, I am associating myself with your speech and as such, choose not to employ you. The constitution does not protect your right to tell your employer to F off. If they University fired him it would no more be a violation of his right to free speech than if he ACTUALLY did advocate the death of "blacks" which you can be sure would in fact result in his firing at pretty much any university. Now, if the government arrested him, THAT would be a violation of his right to free speech.

It's a thinly veiled satire
When I first started readingthe comments, I thought I was the only one who figured out that the article was really about Pino. Mike just put in words to describe blacks people instead of infidels and changed the name and organization of the prof. to show the hypocrisy of the Kent State admins. Pino Update
Amanda Garrett of the Cleveland Plain Dealer has been getting info from our little band of bloggers and her article (barring breaking news) is supposed to be in the Sunday edition of that paper.

We were quite suspicious considering the Plain Dealer's rush to defend Pino immediately after Mike's first column made waves. We decided the story would be told with us our without us and we might as well provide the proof of Pino's involvement and at least provide the opportunity for our side of the story to be told.

If the article is not an accurate reflection of what we told Amanda, I will republish everything I sent her on my blog.

I noticed the name similarity and then the comments supposedly posted and knew that the Kent State professors could not possibly have defended a KKK clown like they defended the jihadist clown. It does a fine job of pointing out their hypocrisy, but I don't believe that they are smart enough to make the conection even if it is spelled out for them. Just look at the lunitic response to firing 8 AGs like it is a Stalin-like purge. While forgeting that they said absolutely nothing when Bubba fired all 93 including those in the middle of investigations of congressional impropriety (Demoncrapic impropriety that is).

Dr. Adams is pretty clever. The Left will point to this with outrage. But to call attention to his article means they must address the content and its obvious associations to Julio Pino. Which leads to an actual discussion about the now-infamous (thanks to Adams) professor.

To attack this column means they must defend Pino's web site. Why is this speech 'hateful' while Pino's speech is 'protected'? However, Dr. Adams column is simply a parody and does not call for anyone's murder. Sadly, Pino's web site is not a parody, and he proudly calls out for the murder of innocents.

Having said that, however, it's interesting to see the comparison made here. To the KSU administration, it's perfectly OK to talk about waging Global Jihad, killing Jews and Americans, and praising the acts on 11 September, but 2-1 says that any professor caught using the word "Negro" outside Spanish class (where they would pronounce it with a short "e") would be out of a job faster than a Larry Somers appology to Feminists.

I think a lot of you guys have missed
the entire point of the article. Have you noticed the name of the alledged bigot in this article; Julius Piner? Julio Pino was the name of the Muslim proffesor at Kent state that was preaching hate. This is an analagy column showing the hypocracy of Kent State. You know that the situation described above would never fly.

As for the posting by Wacky, that post is nothng more than a quote from a rulling by the Supreme Court. They have previously ruled that you can preach anything you want and belong to any organization you want, as long as you don't commit any illegal acts. If you go back to the original article about this college proffessor I posted links to the cases for this. The only exception to this ruling is the use of what is called "fighting words". You can't get in someones face and hurl insults when such is likely to produce a fight.
