Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I’m going to be brutally honest with you in today’s column. I’m not having a very good semester and, lately, I’ve been having a hard time keeping my sarcastic remarks to myself – especially when it comes to interacting with students. In fact, the “drafts” folder in my hotmail account is full of letters I wrote but never sent because they were a little too caustic and darned near offensive.

But since my right-wing readers are not so easily offended I thought I would share those unsent emails in this column. Some are downright funny. And most give good insight into the culture of victimhood that pervades our campuses today. So I hope you enjoy reading these responses more than I enjoyed receiving the letters that inspired them:

Dear (name deleted):

Thanks for your note explaining why you brought a cell phone into Wednesday’s exam. As you know, cell phones are banned from tests because several of your peers have been caught using the text message function to store class notes and retrieve them during the exam. But, apparently, your case is different. You are concerned about your mother’s health. By the way, I thank you for providing – in your last email - a detailed list of all her medical ailments.

Your letter was heart wrenching. And it’s got me thinking about my momma, too. But, since my cell phone is broken, I’m writing to ask you a special favor. Could we resolve this conflict with your agreement to loan me your cell phone for the duration of the semester? That way, I can call my momma all day long just to check on her health. And, needless to say, I’ll be writing you soon with a full list of all her medical ailments. I sure hope her hemorrhoids aren’t acting up. I don’t want our emails to get too personal.

Dr. Mike S. (stands for “Sick of Hearing Excuses”) Adams

---

Dear (name deleted):

Thanks for writing to discuss my decision to send you home from class early the other day. As you know, I do not allow students to have cell phones in class because of the recent outbreak of obsessive text messaging during lectures. I developed this policy when a girl on the second row engaged in a thirty minute text messaging conversation during one of my lectures. Every time her friend replied to a message her vibrator went off. I could hear it and I could also see students in her vicinity giving her dirty looks. She tried to say that she should be able to keep it because it was hidden down between her knees. She lost the argument, needless to say. So, please, don’t be a pansy. If a woman can go for an hour without using her vibrator, so can you.

Dr. Mike S. (stands for “Stop Being a Sissy”) Adams

---

Dear (name deleted):

Sorry I didn’t get back to you sooner. I was responding to a student who was asking for special permission to carry his cell phone into class because his momma is diabetic. That’s why I’m late responding to your request for special permission to carry your cell phone into class because your mother “fell down and hurt herself.”

No.

Dr. Mike S. (stands for “Succinct”) Adams

---

Dear (name deleted):

Thank you for your recent email informing me that you will not be in class next week because your back “hurts real bad.” Please try to avoid disclosing such medical information in future correspondence. Unless you strain your neck pulling your head out of your ass, I’m really not interested. Thank you,

Dr. Mike S. (stands for “Sultan of Sarcasm”) Adams

---

Dear (name deleted):

I am in receipt of your request for help doing research on your English paper. I thank you for taking the time to ask me to look up some cases for you and get back to you with a brief synopsis of the significance of those cases. But first, I have a question. How did you know that I like helping undergraduates with their research papers – especially undergraduate English majors I’ve never met before? Unfortunately, another English major just got done defecating in the Faculty Men’s Room and I have to go flush the toilet and wipe his bottom for him. As soon as I’m done, I’ll get right to work on your paper.

Mike S. (stands for “Student Research Assistant”) Adams

---

Dear (name deleted):

Hi. Thanks for writing to express your First Amendment right to say that I have no first Amendment right to criticize women for having abortions. I love getting emails from English majors, especially feminist English majors. Your assertion that a woman has the exclusive right to terminate a pregnancy without input or criticism from anyone, especially a man, is an assertion I’ve heard often. I’m not at all surprised that you based your conclusion on the observation that women are naturally better at raising babies than men. So, according to you, the whole issue of reproduction is a female issue and men should just shut their mouths.

If I may extend an olive branch and say that I agree that women are better suited for raising children, I hope you’ll return the favor and agree that men are better suited - because of physical differences and differences in disposition – for fighting wars. So, I think a man should be able to fight a war without having to listen to a woman’s opinion about it. Come to think of it, he should be able to turn on his army and murder one of his own troops without having to hear from a woman either.

Just as reproduction is a woman’s issue, war is a man’s issue. So, I would like to suggest that all of you war protesting feminists just shut up and let the men handle these manly kinds of things. A woman’s job is raising babies. Or did you mean to say something else?

Funny
A good change of pace.

You know, Mike, I can't believe
you would... Hold on a sec. That's my cell phone...

A good read...
....entertaining, thanks..

As justaguy
said "A good change of pace." That last letter is an interesting approach to the Fem control.

It's a shame
you didn't send those e-mails.

Mike
You should have sent them!

I kind of wonder, though
if asking experts for help in doing research is a bad thing.

I realize that in the case of an undergraduate paper, it's a bad thing, but when I was writing my paper on securities market liberalization for my j.d., executives at stock exchanges were very willing to render assistance in my research process.

And if men are only good for funding
abortions/offspring, then women should be funding all war efforts.

They would all sqawk for awhile, but it would be cheaper for them if men fought the wars to WIN.

Mike...

... LMAO! I'm going to smoke a fine Nicaraguan cigar and clean my guns now thanks to your uplifting sarcasm and wit!

And you know, had you actually sent those messages, I can just imagine the collective reaction of the recipients... "Huh? I don't understand..."

A GOOD WAY TO START THE DAY
A little humor is a great way to start any day. Thanks Mike.

jerubaal: There is a world of difference in asking someone working in a particular field to help you with a paper and asking a professor working at the school you are attending to help you.

MIKE'S COLUMN
Start of my day.
what a way to start the day.
By the way, so far today you've done nothing but wasted my time today.

Visit http://www.headsneedtoroll.org and post your thoughts, views and opinions.

Zip-Locks after walkies
They won't grow out of it, either.

ooo, aah, wow, aint you funny
can't wait to see what you'll write next.

He's Back
That's the sarcastic Mike of yore,
That I've so long been waiting for!

I will celebrate by launching a box of 9MM rounds downrange and smoking a good cigar while I clean up my Smith & Wesson afterwards.

jerubaal and Jerry:
It sounds like the request that student made was more than just "help" in doing the research, which is perfectly appropriate. And I believe that asking a known expert at one's own institution for help is perfectly appropriate.

The issue here is that this stude--er--uh--ummmm--enrollee at UNC-W was demanding (not asking) that Doctor Adams not "help with", but actually DO all the research and write it up for her (or him, but I'm willing to bet dollars to Krispy Kremes that it's "her"). It is her laziness and willingness to plagiarize that has drawn Doctor Adams' ire.

Scottie
I applaud the sentiment, but a weenie little pea-shooter such as the 9mm?

9mm
Double tap to the head requires accuracy not just raw power. 9mm is the best thing for hitting someone who wears body armor.

Letters never sent
Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It never means them
I have learned over the years that nobody under 30 (and increasingly, under 40) believes that any rule actually means HIM (or HER). Not too long ago I watched a policeman give about 25 tickets for blocking the intersection to a mess of Mamas and "caregivers" who were delivering offspring to a local college (private high school to you Americans), and judging by his response to their blabberjabber, every last one of them had a 'valid reason' for breaking the law. I actually heard the officer inform one woman, with just the edge of sarcasm in his voice, "Well, you should have taken care of that before you left home, ma'am."

I'm sure that everyone who was ever arrested for anything has a good reason why the law does not apply to him or her. The sooner these crybabies learn the contrary, the happier we all will be.

Sometimes, you just have to say...
WTF?!

Well done, Mike. A great way to start my week, especially on COLUMBUS DAY!!!

Now, where'd I leave my cigar cutter.....

AudiR10
Learn the contrary? Boy are you optimistic.

war is a man’s issue
So is football. Get rid of women football analysts.

Glad to hear there
are other macanudo affecionados out there. I for one never clean my weapons while enjoying a good cigar; Hoppes guncleaer does not taste good!

I gotta admit
You got style, Dr. Adams.

Your Wit
Is wonderful. Too bad the jerks that should have gotten these emails will never see them.

sight check
Mike,

I especially liked the last one. It's not merely the sarcasm, you know, that we like. It's the insight. And that one's got it.

But I'm glad you didn't send any of these. With a weapon as powerful as you have, it's good to know you do some sort of checking before you use it. Even if it means a good one occasionally gets away. (Well, almost.)

Letters
I hope that you have required all of your students to read your column!
Perhaps some of them may learn thereby.....
Carl

PS I am keeping a file full of letters I wish I had sent for my autobiographical notes, with a note to send them, after I am dead!

Cell Phones a Problem???
Great column Mike,

LMAO!! The only problem I have with it is....... hold on a sec.......

I'll have to get back to you Mike, its Cynewulf with another text message..........

Cat Trapper
I too share your wish for the addressees to have gleaned as much as I was able to from Mike's responses. Unfortunately when people achieve membership in the victim club, it seems the cost of membership is their sense of humor.
It's a shame really, sarcasm is a fine vehicle for the righteous wronged. It conveys not only the absurdity but the humor required to get that degree in life with a minor in sanity.

I know the feeling!
Maybe Mike should do what one of my professors does with cell phones that go off in his class. He takes the phone, gives it to his department head, and makes the mother of the student retrieve the phone! We hav had one...and only one...phone get confiscated in class. There is just somethng about having to get mommy to get your phone back that discourages celly use in class!

Sarcastic Remarks
We, who responded understood what was being said. Throughout my career, the worst I have felt for someone is when I tagged them with sarcasm, they didn't get it. That is the real problem in life, one's ability to think and "read" into things.

How can we help you Mike?
It's all well and good to congratulate Mike on another funny column. What's not so funny is the fact that because of his conservative veiwpoint he was denied promotion to full professor this year (hence his remark that he's having a bad semester). He has mentioned before that his dept chair is a woman, a sociologist, and therefore.....you fill in the blanks. So, what are we going to do about it? I say we start sending emails to his dept chair and his dean and his provost to let them know that we conservatives are tired of the lefties running colleges as a private fiefdom. Are you with me?
Signed,
A fixed term professor who was just purged by a liberal chair

Loved the letters, Mike
In a way, I too am glad you saved these to make a great column for Columbus Day--- a million to one bet that most of today's 'school kids' do NOT know who Columbus is, or why he has a holiday named for him....after all, most schools are not on holiday....oh well.
I love your sarcasm, and am sorry to hear that you are 'having a rough year'--- I am praying for you to persevere and beat the louts at their own game. I really admire your pluck and courage to stay on at that place where they, on a whim, seemingly, deprive you of full professor-ship....You know you deserve it--most of your readers understand that you deserve it--- keep on writing Mike, we need you !!!
I LUV what flagwaver reported about their 'mommies having to retrieve their cell phones'--please use that tack in the future !!!

cat trapper
...observes, accurately, that Hopppe's No. 9 does not taste so good.

However, there is no greater aphrodisiac for the red-blooded male than a hint of it behind his woman's ear.

Poor Dr.Adams
I agree that students shouldn't be allowed to do whatever they're inclined to do. Set the rules, enforce the rules, and let it go at that. I feel so sorry for Dr. Adams at being denied his raise. But could it be that he spends so much time and energy attacking his superiors, his students, and everybody he disagrees with, that his research and teaching effectiveness suffers?

In case Dr. Mike S.(stands for)runs low on S-words, he could include the following, without descending into scatology:

Sarcastic? Of course. That's a given, and simple-mindedly proud of it.

herewith a few more suggestions:

Sniveling
Self-righteous
sourpuss
Self-pitying
Soporific
Sadistic
Specious
Sanctimonious
Smug
Satrap (low-ranking despot)
Scabrous (rough and/or obscene)
Shmuck
Self-absorbed
sophomoric
spoiled
self-congratulatory
strained
self-indulgent
single-minded
skewed
showboat
side-tracked
small-minded
stinkard
strophic (second verse same as the first...)
a whole bunch of 'sub-'words,
and just plain
SAD.

People who pride themselves on their clever nastiness get crossed off our guest list in a hurry. They're ineffective, as people of all political persuasions just sigh and roll their eyes whenever they darken the horizon, and they make every gathering a gloomy one.

If the good Doctor Adams wanted to make a difference, he could marinate his remarks in a little less vinegar, and he would hold more sway with those who actually need to hear a different point of view. As it is, he's preaching to a diminishing choir.

Re: "Rand"y
What many of you don't realize is that academic promotion depends on:

1) quality of teaching
2) SCHOLARLY contributions to the knowledge base in one's field

Note that political philosophy has NOTHING to do with it.

Have you seen Adams' resume or any examples of items (1) or (2)? No -- neither have I. That is because Adams' opinion columns are SEPARATE from what he does in his academic profession. As I've stated before:

WRITING OPINION COLUMNS IS NOT SCHOLARSHIP.

Before you rant to Adams' department chair, remember that SHE has seen legitimate documentation of his ACADEMIC accomplishments and activities, YOU and I have NOT.

Or maybe you are saying that because Adams is a neo-con, he automatically deserves promotion? Good luck with that argument.

This is just speculation, but it seems that Adams would rather churn out columns and use them as political weapons against random university officials than attend to his own academic responsibilities. I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves academia and continues the column writing professionally.

Hilarious!
As someone else mentioned, it's really sad that all these "victims" lose their sense of humor (along with their common sense). Great column, Mike! Thanks!

I don't know about the 9mm...
I'm not big on handguns. They have their place, and I know how to use one very well (my father trained me before I took the test for my license to carry a concealed weapon), but it's just not efficient enough for me. Give me a 7 mm-08, or a .280, or...well, you get the point...and I'll make the shot from a quarter of a mile away. Maybe I have too much of the sniper mentality, or maybe I've too much affinity for venison, or maybe I'm just crazy, but rifles do so much more for me.

As for the column...well, the thing that strikes me the most is that there aren't any libs on here arguing with him now. That, in and of itself, is the greatest compliment that can be paid to him, in my opinion. I guess they could have just given up the argument, but, then, that's a good thing too.

Wow, I guess I must retract
my previous statement...while I was typing out my comment, there were two shots at him. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

To "andthensome"
You write:

"People who pride themselves on their clever nastiness get crossed off our guest list in a hurry."

and...

"As it is, he's preaching to a diminishing choir."

"Nastiness?" You been to Daily Kos or moveon.org lately? Since sharing word definitions seem to be a self-gratifying event for you, I suggest you check out the definition of this word and do a little "comparison shopping" between Dr. Adams and some of their pundits & bloggers.

As it stands, you only WISH Dr. Adams' choir were diminishing (anything but), and frankly, I find you and your comments sniveling, specious & santimonious and certainly no reason for you to appear smug (who wants to go to your parties anyway?). However, I'm sure your sophomoric attempt to be clever has given you some sadistic pleasure, when all yuo've truly demonstrated is that you are nothing but a self-righteous, self-absorbed, self-congratulatory and self-indulgent Schmuck, single-minded in your purpose, strained, and quite obviously a spoiled showboat sourpuss... and just plain SAD.

Please return to your normal liberal haunts where your strophic and scabrous spiels are appreciated, you satrap!

Making us all look bad
If you're this mean to your students now, just wait until you get tenure. I am a conservative professor and I love your articles. And I understand the excuses students try to make. But when you write stuff like this, it doesn't make you look clever or smart. It just makes you look like a jerk. You can have rigid guidelines for your class without being an a--hole.

"right is its own defense" writes:

Professor... I think you are missing the point.... didn't you read the part about these being e-mails he'd LIKE to send, but didn't?

And your sentence: "But when you write stuff like this, it doesn't make you look clever or smart."

Another missed point... if you have been reading Dr. Adams for long, you'd know he isn't extraordinarily concerned about WHAT people think of him.

You DID say you are a conservative, right? From your comments, I wouldn't have guessed.

Lighten up a little, Dr.!

Nope-
I confess, I've never been to Daily Kos or MoveOn, as I find such diatribes boring, unproductive, and usually based on wild exaggerations and purposeful inaccuracies. Nothing funny about it, on either end of the political spectrum. Most people get over peeing matches by the time they outgrow adolescence.

I applauded Dr. Adams for setting limits in his classes and enforcing them. But does he have to phone that column in about 'hurray for me, I'm still battling the gum-smacking, cell-phone addicted, cheating idiots I'm paid to teach' every 8 weeks? Is he the only professor in all of academia who ever said 'park your cell phones at the door?' I happen to know a number of professors who give the 'what I expect of you' lecture to every class at the beginning of every term, flunk a few who don't get the message, and then get on with publishing academic papers, grading essays, and trying to impart some knowledge to the students who are paying their salaries, rather than writing hateful columns ridiculing them.

I suspect, as another poster pointed out, if he paid more attention to his scholarship, teaching, and contributing in a positive way to academic committees, than to venting his spleen, he might now be appending 'Full Professor' to his CV. As it is, he's just beating the same old drum, congratulating himself on his false 'restraint,' and accepting applause from those few who confuse poorly aimed vitriol with insightful commentary.

There are many politically conservative academics who have done quite well for themselves, against far greater academic odds, (Drs. Rice, Sowell, Williams, et al, come to mind) and haven't felt it necessary to engage in such predictably offensive personal attacks to do so. It seems that Dr. Adams would rather be 'right' than effective. That's his privilege, but I wish he'd quit whining about the injustice. He shoots himself in the foot, and then blames the bullet. Something wrong about that, especially for somebody who brags that he's such a fine marksman.

diminished audience
Interesting. When that post about Adams' "dimished audience" was written he had 42,200 page views, first on TownHall. The combined total of the next nine columnists (Jacoby, Barone, Parker, Prelutsky, Bennett, Novak, Williams, Greenberg, and Fields) was 42,500. Yes, I'd say the old boy is finished.

Adam's CV
I just looked on his website @ UNC-W, and he doesn't have his vitae linked. That seems odd in an academic environment. It is possible that he hasn't done the kind of academic work necessary to be a full professor.

Then again, I have done a bit of university teaching (not much, pay is too low) and there certainly are political factors going into who gets advanced.

Mike, Post Your Vitae!

Sigh
GoodonPaper turns out not to be very good off paper, when it comes to talking about promotion criteria.

Readers like us who are not part of that university would need to see several recent promotion cases in that department, not just Mike's materials. The idea is to figure out what the standard is by reviewing recent decisions and then determine if Mike's achievements rise to that standard.

Of course, this can be done informally via the department's website. Take a look at current professors (by "professors" I am meaning those at the full professor rank specifically) and what their achievements are, and then do the same for Mike.

It is easy to see that this is not a close case, quite frankly. Mike has won a teaching award, published more than senior colleagues in most cases, and served in professional, community, and institutional settings. He may or may not be the best faculty member in the department, but he is clearly at the level of other professors, thus meriting the promotion.

UNCW is probably trying to get Mike on a "collegiality" criterion and hold his criticism of the university against him. That's the only thing I can determine is even within the realm of possibility. Nothing like a public university punishing free speech, right?

Cell Phones In Class
Obviously most of you have never tried to teach a class with cell phones going off. I have. After explaining expectations prior to the start of class, when someones phone went off, I explained to them that it appeared they were too important to someone to be wasting their time in my class, and they were asked to leave. Dr Adams, you should have sent the E-Mails.

Dr. Adams e-mails
I have never you before, but will be looking for you in the future. I am an older female. I loved the last e-mail. Infact, I printed it off to show several people I know. I am 100% pro-life, even in the case of rape. I think it's interesting that liber's are so concerned about female rights, as 50% of those killed are female. Where are their rights? I wish all who would like to learn something, would read the history of Planned Parenthood. It started as the Negro Project, with the idea of killing off as many "inferior" people as possible. Do some research, it's amazing.

Not radical enough
Goodonpaper and andthensome haven't heard of ward churchill. Radical and hatefully offensive. And apparently a liar in lieu of lying about being Native American and writing his own papers.

Mike if you were a radical leftwinger you'd be in by now. They need no academic accomplishments. Only need be liberals.

Funny article and fictitious emails.

ProffesorJ
Guess what...your employer can certainly take action against you for excersizing free speech. Although universities are loathe to do so, given the desired goal of encouraging open academic exchange, it is not unreasonable to expect that there would be some reaction to the extraordinary venom and personal animus that Adams has directed to the institution and faculty. Adams has made his own bed, and he can lay in it. I would be amused to see if his students send him some snarky and vitriolic e-mails the next time he gets sick.

andthensome:

My experience with college professors, especially the full, tenured ones, is they seem to have a great deal of free (research?) time on their hands, what with their liberal use of T.A.s to perform most of their "tasks".

Therefore, I don't automatically conclude that whatever Dr. Adams does with his free time, such as writing this column or speaking engagements means he is shirking his collegiate responsibilities. Indeed, it appears "professorj" has looked at Adams' record and there appears to be more here than meets the eye.

I, for one, find Mike Adams' columns a welcome break from the normal parroting and he is a vigilant observer and crusader for the excesses of political correctness, diversity, and free speech hypocrites.

My advice... don't waste any more time on Dr. Adams if he's not living up to your expectations. Perhaps he (and we)are not intellectual enough for you.

:-)

Andthesome and GoodOnPaper -typical libs
How do you spot a liberal? 2 things always give them up:

1) Manner of discussion - if you can't find any arguments to confront your opponent, use insults instead. Take AndTheSome - 25 insults, without bothering to explain what in Mike's article prompted any of them. How about a challenge - try to be classy. That is, argue without name-calling.

2) Taking everything seriously. Even open sarcasm. Hey, GoodOnPaper - maybe, just maybe, Mike's whining about hard year was a joke? Since we, nasty conservatives, don't held self-pity in high regard, and Mike is definetely a conservative, that's the way I took it.

As for the actual article - I have to say, the letters are brutal. But, hey - students do drive their educators crazy. So, if a professor wants to rant on a third-party web-site - who cares. Whatever helps him keep his sanity. And, since no names are mentioned, nobody is hurt.

Pro-Westerner

I couldn't agree with you more!

celtic-dragon
Although I disagree with your assessments of "extraordinary venom and personal animus". I can think of no one more deserving of extraordinary venom and personal animus than an authority that disregards it's own rules or it's nation's rules whenever it happens to suit.

I think sarcasm is a restrained and measured response to that brand of tyranny.

bly
Adams is perfectly capable of seeking employment with an institution that is more suited to his political views. It is, after all, a free country, and North Carolina is a "right to work state". For someone who decries whiners, he does seem to whine an awful lot.

The best prrofessors
I ever had gave me absolutely no room for excuses. I may have hated them at the time, but I certainly appreciated them later.

whoops
Sorry about the typo!

celtic-dragon
He is certainly able to cut and run. But I believe conservatives prefer to stand and fight, to try to effect change, when they perceive injustice. That is certainly what I raise my children to do.

I can see only one line in this article which might be taken as whining by a "half-empty" type. I took it as an pre-emptive apology/explanation.

find another conservative school?
Wouldn't it be easier for him to get a sex change? That's should take care of all his problems.

Stan47
you crack me up! And my wife has been spending her money on Chanel #9.

bly
try using sarcasm on the European and Canadian posters who visit this sight. They cry harder and louder than the libsters do.

Restraint
Great column, Dr Adams. And my family wonders why I don't want to go to college... (the students and idiot profs, sir, not those who actually teach and hold their students to a higher standard. I'm a military man, after all).

BTW, the cell phone rage expressed here is rather restrained, in my opinion. I had a platoon sergeant once who informed us that the second he heard someone's cell phone go off, he was going to smash it with a crowbar... without removing it from the offendor's pocket! Knowing the man, I think it was highly likely that he would have done so.

Keep up the great work, and I will continue to await your columns with baited breath.

Celtic
I must be misunderstanding your post.

Are you saying that a state of North Carolina institution, receiving federal funding, can deny someone a promotion to professor because that person has exercised his right to free speech and critiqued the institution?

If you are saying that, then I strongly disagree. If it's useful, I'll track down a number of FIRE cases that cite Supreme Court precedent regarding freedom of speech.

professor j
What Celtic is saying is that because Dr. Adams criticizes transexuals, Celtic would like to see him fired.

school daze
Adams always give us something extra!
To take a look into college life keeps me in touch-however little- into a world long past me!
Is carbon paper still around??

Sarcasm
Dr. Adams

I only have two words for your un-mailed emails:

SEND 'EM

If I was still teaching military subjects in the Army Reserve, I'd bust anybody that let one ring in my classroom, or on my problem. Rules are rules, dang it, and they mean EVERYONE!!!!!!

Keep up the good work.

I am not the only "Hoppes number 9" "Freak out there! since I was a wee lad, the smell of that stuff has been one of the most pleasing to My olfactory nerves, and I have long espoused the idea that a soft ( or I guess a hard one for those who imbide ) drink that captured that smell in aflavor, would soon send coke or bud to the poor house. why dont they make a candle or air freashner that smells like it, instead of those cloying flowery fruity smelling things that keep Me from being able to travel into certain areas of walmart or target? I think Dr A. has published some of those things that many if not most rational people write, never intending to send, a well known "release" and escap from some of the inanities that confront all and sundry each and everyday. This provides a harmless expression of thought, while giving one a bit of time to construct a more "politic" response which can send the same message without hurting anyones feelings ( which has become not only pandemic in nature but seems to provide the basis for untold quantaties of sensitive litigation)
as My ole pappy was wont to say " those folks with '10 foot long toes' either need to learn to roll 'em up, or get immune to folk stepping on 'em.
almost made it thru a post in a chain where someone speaks of handgun calibers pros and cons without extolling the superiority of the "prince of them all" the 10mm, but just couldnt

celtic-dragon
The only reason Mike Supersmart Adams is being denied his raise is because of the anti-Christian and anti-conservative bigotry that is ubiquitious in academia. Mike's articles are mild compared to what I heard coming from the mouths of the liberal professors of the Ivory Tower.

A lady says thanks
Professor Adams,
I just wanted to let you know that there are a few ladies who appreciate today's humor. Thank you! Thank you for sharing these with us. They are quite appropos to today's insolent and un-mannerly youth. I applaud your self-restraint in not sending them. Please tell me you sent them to their parents?
Many thanks,
Mrs. Virginia Akin

When the FBI decided the 10 was too much gun for their limp wrists i bought one cheap. Them as has'em loves 'em. I just read in Gun Tests that some outfit is marketing a 10 mm based on the AR-15. It was rated a best buy. HMMmmmmmmmm

DELETED POST
Ah, it appears Mr. Adams simply deletes posts that are in reply to his column that are not slanted in his favor. Mike do you not have a sense of humor?
Visit http://www.headsneedtoroll.org and post your views, thoughts and opinions.

Sounds like...
...Mike has difficulty managing his classes behavior. Perhaps if he wasn't such a controlling, angry guy he would resolve these issues rather easily by setting the rules, enforcing them, giving no special treatment regardless of excuse.

Oh, no, that's right, it would take testicular fortitude to carry that out.

Back from the Range
Got my presidente lit . . . MMMMMMMM, got the S&W and the Colt 1911 apart and soaking in Hoppes . . . MMMMMMMM, and when this wonderful cigar is done, I'll take the brush to 'em. Wifey even shot pretty good tonite. Read the posts and baskin' in the glow. Better'n a hot tub.

Why are you so obsessed with transexual people?

ProffesorJ
You may be right. I would counter by saying that Adams' critisisms have been of a highly personal nature and would likely count against him for collegiality reasons, as another person has already stated. As I have mentioned several times in the past, it appears that Adams tries to instigate controversy, and then complains when people actually call him on it. I have no idea what standards of research or personal comportment his department maintains, but I can say that I have not seen any proffesor in my own experience who has been so truculent and venomous in his or her public views. As far as I can tell, right or wrong, UNCW is embarrassed by Adams and can't really do anything about him, so they ignore him as best they can. If he creates enough problems, he may be able to blackmail the university into some sort of favorable action.

obsession ...
I don't know. I guess somewhere, deep down inside, I'm really a trans-sexual. Thanks for asking...

embarrassment...
Celtic, you are a man who dresses like a woman. What right do you have to call someone else an embarrassment? Nigra, please!

MikeScott
You persist in making personal attacks over issues that are not germane to the topic at hand. Please tell me why I, or anyone else, should take you seriously? Your sophomoric and infantile attempts to insult me only expose the deficient quality of your own thinking.

BTW, MikeScott
I did not refer to Adams as an embarrasment as a matter of my own opinion. It is a guess on my part that UNCW considers him an embarrasment due to the disparity of political views between Adams and the institution. You should probably be proud of that, if I understand your position on most things in this forum. Adams has no real bearing on my life for me to call him an 'embarrasment', and I do not consider him a credible conservative commentator in the nature of George Will or Tony Blankly. If that makes me elitist, oh well.

stop whining, celtic
And go to a blog more consistent with your views. There are plenty of sites for transvestites.

not credible?
Again, stop spending so much time attacking a commentator you claim lacks credibility. Just move on. Take the gay issues elsewhere. Stop logging on to remind everyone you don't take Adams seriously. Just move on.

just wondering
If anyone has ever seen Dr. Adams post in this section?

Rulz?
Typical crybabies.

Set some rules, expect (no DEMAND) that they be followed, and then be called "mean" and "cold-hearted" when you catch someone breaking them.

One poster nailed it right on the head. There are WAY too many out there that seem to think the rules don't apply to them.

GET A LIFE!!!

I did have the dubious pleasure of corresponding with an euro. The frustration factor is prohibitive. Logic is right out.
Personally, I find French whine underrated.

Some people are so fragile
that they just can't stand it when somebody challenges their beliefs in any way. I have every right to comment here as I see fit, and I have no intention of leaving. If you can't deal with dissenting commentary, MikeScott, then that is just too bad.

bly,
No, I've never seen Adams post in this section. I've seen him edit his column after someone has drawn attention to an error, but that's about it.

Dr. Adams - follow Dr. Sowell's lead
And get completely out of academia. The so-called "institutions” of so-called “higher learning” are the most massive of incredibly bad jokes. Why have your good name associated with such trash? And you’d probably make a lot more money as a full-time editorialist anyway.

Meh.
The letters could have been funnier.

Okay boys and , . . er, .
Celtic - Dragon, I think you moght have answered your own first question to Mikescott by ommitting the words " so obsessed" and reading it is an answer from any well adjusted heterosexual on the planet!

That said, I believe Mikescott was simply trying to explain your venom toward Adams as one who is aware explains to the novice. He cited the historical relationship between Adams columns and your comments, over time, to clarify your perspective. I did not percieve any negativity, beyond his indication that he sides with Adams, that warrants such a response from you. I did not see the "personal attack" until you pushed for a response beyond his joking that : "I don't know. I guess somewhere, deep down inside, I'm really a trans-sexual. Thanks for asking..."

What you do is your thing, and how people react to it is just part of dealing with how "public" you have decided to be. People cannot always help the emotions your persona invokes. Its a consequence of the "alternative" nature you embrace. In essence, its just one of those "minority" realities you face. You might learn to deal with it better!

Most entertaining
Thanks for the laughs, Dr. Adams. Wish that I had known someone like you when I was in school. The last unsent email was my favorite.

Feminists good at raising babies?
How do you do a good job raising a dead baby?

BakedBones
And how, may I ask, have I been 'venomous' to Adams? I have never refered to him by any slur or insulting epithet. Adams, and MikeScott for that matter, have consistantly refered to GLBT people in derogotary language at every opportunity. I have not responded in kind. I do critisize, and I have been given to believe that this forum is open to all who abide by the standards and who are willing to engage in reasonable (or maybe not so reasonable) discourse. MikeScott has insulted me and other GLBT Republicans on a number of occasions, and I refuse to be intimidated by his schoolyard bullyboy nonsense.

celtic stands its ground
So, why did you tell Adams just to get the heck out and find a more suitable college? Boy, did you miss the point of our little exchange.

Sorry, Celtic
Perhaps, " less than hospitable" would have been a better way to express it. But your response bears me out: Perhaps you need to learn to deal with it better! You seem to revel in victimhood, sometimes! Good luck to you!

Cell phones are indeed annoying
Not into sarcasm most of the time but I too get aggrevated with cell phone behavior.

What is the issue with turning them off and putting them away (not quiet but off). Its not like its difficult...

Of students, cell phones, cigars, etc.
I am an adjunct instructor at a satelite campus. My students usually have a full time job, and assorted other responsibilities. I tell them to shut off the phones during class and they do. There is nothing magic about it, but rather it is a combination of age and responsibility.

Regarding Macanudo's and Hoppe's #9, the aroma is wonderful, but if you have just a little Hoppe's on your fingers and you pick up your cigar, it is ruined. So I generally wait until after the cleaning to wash-up, light-up and open either a bottle of Pale Ale, or perhaps a highball of Wild Turkey on the rocks.

MikeScott
Because I see little point in sticking around in a job where antagonism and anger seem to be such over-riding factors. Granted, that may well not be the actual work environment Adams is in, but it certainly is what he portrays. If I despised my own employer as much as he seems to, I would have changed jobs long ago. My observations on this have nothing to do with GLBT issues, so I was surprised you brought that up. I am trying to look at the situation somewhat dispationately, and I am wondering why he is still at UNCW

Don't try this at liberal colleges...
Read some of Dr. Adam's e-mails aloud to the grad students here in the computer lab at school. They were much appreciated--several folks were laughing so hard the tears were flowing. Don't know if it was the words themselves or the way I delivered them (maybe combo of both?).

In any case, loved the column. Keep up the good work Dr. Adams.

He Enjoys The Conflict
Using their liberal, nonsensical political correctness to defend his scathing critiques of their liberal, nonsensical political correctness.

It's like tying a knot in the Devil's tail - lots whirling and howling and wailing, but emminently satisfying.

Celtic says,
"You persist in making personal attacks over issues that are not germane to the topic at hand. Please tell me why I, or anyone else, should take you seriously? Your sophomoric and infantile attempts to insult me only expose the deficient quality of your own thinking."

I would call "sopomoric" & "infantile" personal attacks, Celtic. They are just bigger words then silly, stupid & little baby. "Defient quality" sounds like an attack to me. Personally, I don't care if you like Dr. Adams. Apparently, it means a lot to you. It gets your juices flowing to talk about him. Maybe you've known teachers like him.

You can have no respect for an employer, but not hate them. There are many reasons to stay in a job, for instance, you like it, or it pays well. I worked in a company for 10 years that was largely liberal. I needed the work & learned a lot while I was there. Just didn't care for the people much.

Cell phone boors
Sometimes I wonder how some people ever survived without cell phones. For them, C-Ps have moved from the realm of convenience to necessity to appendage. I'm constantly annoyed by people c-phone talking while driving, who don't have the mental focus to walk and chew gum.

In defense of Professor Adams' right to conduct his class as he sees fit, it's all been adequately said here, disrupted, of course, by the usual tediously argumentative static from the drive by jerks (eg. Celtic).

The only comment I would add: Dr. Adams, why respond so individually to these people. Just develop two or three form (auto) responses and simply dismiss these e-mails out of hand. Such 'students' are simply not worth the time and effort of these crafted responses. Your time is very valuable and would be better spent otherwise.

Besides, this type of abbreviated response would also contribute to a facet of their education that was sadly neglected: decorum and manners. In such a way, a valuable object lesson in the value of other people's time, that these people have felt so privileged to waste, may be properly instilled.

Trolls
To all the detractors of Dr. Adams: Two points. One: Dr. Adams is affable, patient, and gracious. I know this because I have enjoyed his company at lunch with my family and friends. Two: To say that Dr. Adams could not be denied a full professorship because of his politics, his whistle-blowing, or his conservative views is a statement so ludicrous that it threatens the boundaries of credible discourse. Dr. Adams comment about the person with his head up his bunghole seems to aptly describe the authors of these recent criticisms.

Cell Phone discourtesy
I agree with you, Mike. While cell phones provide convenience, they also provide opportunity for a liberal dose of discourtesy. I have spoken to large groups of people and invariably one of their cell phones goes off and they go running out of the room hunched over as if nobody would notice. It is then that I usually say, "Sounds like it's time for your milk," or "tell Aunt Martha I said hi."
When I hear someone's cell phone vibrating, I say, "sounds like your cell phone is in heat."
They get the point--maybe--until the next call.

"Victim Club"
Bly,

I found your comment insightful and rather funny!

"Unfortunately when people achieve membership in the victim club, it seems the cost of membership is their sense of humor."

How true.

How sad that these poor "victims" don't just grow up and take responsibility for their actions.

Even my wife agrees with that one. Her comment was "What value do they even add to the broadcast?"

Celtic-dragon
As I consider your query/suggestion to Dr. Adams about leaving his job because of all the aggravation.

I would ask you why do you stick around this site considering of all the aggravation you get. Why not just move on.
For that matter why stay in this country why not go to France or another country more amenable to your choices.
These are not suggestions, I'd really like an answer; or, at least, your consideration. In consideration you will likely answer your own question.

Vince
My missus is a college professor. She is a good woman! Some days if you happened to hear some of her rants after dealing with whiney students and often whinier colleagues; you could well reach an opposing conclusion about her temperament.

My point, we all have our ways of blowing off steam. In a free speech society sarcasm(anger vented with humor) is preferable to just plain anger. Who wants to hear that?

Many of us want to hear Dr. Adams' sarcasm. I would pay good money to hear an acerbic wit such as Adams' in action.
It feels darn good to know that someone is out there exercising the 1st amendment and getting results that are good for America and free speech.

You , on the other hand, made 4 assumptions in your final paragraph about Dr. Adams. From your assumptions I can deduce much about you. Lighten up, have some fun, don't always jump to the negative conclusion, and show some respect. Perhaps one day people will listen to you.

Celtic Dragon
Hey, CD, none of us care what sex (or sexes) you may be. And, personally, I don't even mind that your postings come across as stuffy, ignorant, and hopelessly pompous. But, God! I wish you could either learn to spell, or would turn on your spell-checker. As an English teacher, I can tolerate stupidity, but bad spelling drives me up the wall.
And as for Mike and his sarcasm, I told him a year or two ago that sooner or later he would find that his office had been moved to a tent out in the parking lot. Liberals can't stand the truth, no matter how gently stated, so blunt, acid comments obviously can not be tolerated. But Mike, Dr. Samuel Johnson would be proud of you. God bless!
(that should do it, right?)

Dr. Adams's pay and positon
The cure for Dr. Adams is simply cut the chancellor's pay by 100k and give it to Dr. Adams. Chancellor's don't "earn" any more money than a "burger flipper" anyway and they can simply "make do" with a couple hundred thousand a year. University chancellor is just a high paid "welfare style" position anyway with no real work being done or value recieved by either the state or the people thereof(see--twice defeated democrat-- Erskine Bowles as an example)

The university system needs to be something besides an adjunct of the democratic party. Being a liberal should be a felony. Then felons wouldn't be deciding the fate of good men like Dr. Adams.
