Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Flags flew at half-staff this week in California's state Capitol. No, not for Michael Jackson. For Private First Class Justin Casillas.

Pfc. Casillas died in a suicide bombing attack on his Army base in eastern Afghanistan on the Fourth of July. While Americans enjoyed fireworks and Hollyweird mourned the "king of pop" with wretched excess, the family of Pfc. Casillas learned that the 19-year-old paratrooper with the U.S. Army's Alaska-based 509th Airborne had given his life for his country. His father told the Woodland (Calif.) Daily Democrat that Justin just "wanted to do his part."

The family has a legacy of service: Casillas' grandfather served in the Pacific theater during World War II; his father served in Vietnam. But the death of Pfc. Casillas didn't make front-page headlines. His funeral won't receive wall-to-wall coverage on cable TV.

Instead, it's been all MJ, all night and day: Nurses! Nannies! Doctors! Drug raids! Custody battles! Casket rides!

Jacko fever spread to the Beltway, where the House of Representatives held a moment of silence for the entertainer. President Obama sent a highly publicized letter of condolence to the Jackson family. And topping them all, Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee, D-Texas, drafted a 1,600-word congressional resolution that "recognizes Michael Jackson as a global humanitarian and a noted leader in the fight against worldwide hunger and medical crises; and celebrates Michael Jackson as an accomplished contributor to the worlds of arts and entertainment, scientific advances in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, and global food security."

Jackson-Lee laundry-listed every charitable act and donation by Jackson in the House resolution -- and would have included all the times he said "thank you" and "God bless you" if there had been more room. Is it too much to ask our lawmakers to restrain themselves from acting like "Entertainment Tonight" spokesmodels and Tiger Beat correspondents?

I stand with GOP Rep. Peter King of New York, who rightly skewered these celebrity-worshiping warped priorities as "an orgy of glorification." Jackson could sing and dance. But he was no American hero. In a YouTube video over the weekend, King lambasted the media circus:

"All we hear about is Michael Jackson. Let's knock out the psychobabble. He was a pervert … and to be giving this much coverage to him, day in and day out, what does it say about us as a country? … I just think we're too politically correct. No one wants to stand up and say, 'We don't need Michael Jackson!' He died, he had some talent, but fine, there are people dying every day. There are men and women dying every day in Afghanistan, let's give them the credit they deserve."

Yes, let's do that.

Another soldier died with Pfc. Casillas on Independence Day at Combat Outpost Zerok in Afghanistan's Paktika province. He was 20-year-old Pfc. Aaron Fairbairn. Fairbairn's stepfather, David Masters, took to the social networking service Twitter to spread the word and keep Fairbairn's legacy alive. "On Independence Day, a few hours ago, they killed my son Aaron in Afghanistan," Masters wrote.

According to the Department of Defense, both Fairbairn and Casillas died from "wounds suffered when insurgents attacked the outpost using small arms and indirect fires." The Taliban claimed credit for the complex rocket and mortar attack involving a reported 8,000 kg of explosives.

Tens of thousands of our men and women are in Iraq and Afghanistan to combat the jihadi threat. Army 1st Lt. Brian N. Bradshaw gave his life on June 25, the same day Jackson died. Bradshaw's aunt, Martha Gillis, blasted the silence over her nephew's sacrifice in a letter to her local paper, The Washington Post:

"My nephew, Brian Bradshaw, was killed by an explosive device in Afghanistan on June 25, the same day that Michael Jackson died. … Where was the coverage of my nephew or the other soldiers who died that week?" Gillis wrote that Bradshaw "had old-fashioned values and believed that military service was patriotic and that actions counted more than talk. … He was a search-and-rescue volunteer, an altar boy, a camp counselor. He carried the hopes and dreams of his parents willingly on his shoulders. What more than that did Michael Jackson do or represent that earned him memorial 'shrines,' while this soldier's death goes unheralded? It makes me want to scream."

Please do not despair, Mrs. Gillis. While the Rev. Al Sharpton screamed, "Thank you, Michael! Thank you, Michael!" at the grotesque Staples Center memorial on Tuesday, many of us whispered in prayer: Thank you, Justin. Thank you, Aaron. Thank you, Brian. The real American heroes won't be forgotten.

Simple solution.
Immediately withdraw all American troops from all the corners of the earth. Cut the defense budget by 50%, so that even then the US spends still more on defense than the rest of the world combined. It will save a lot of lives and money. So much for Obama as a liberal, anyone advocating war can not be a liberal.

Your Congress on Michael Jackson
"Apparently so many House staffers are watching the MJ memorial on their computers that...

The Committee on House Administration's House Technology Director sent out the following email message to House staffers:

"Just as an fyi the internet is slow as a result of the MJ Memorial Service. A notice will soon be posted on Housenet."

Another staffer tells Shenan that everyone in Cannon is watching the memorial. "All the offices have closed their doors" and "literally the halls are empty." Plus, there was a sighting of a teary-eyed intern. "Thank God we have late votes today," added the staffer, "I would body-check anyone who tried to change the channel to CSPAN right now."

michelle
I agree. Too much focus on Michael and not those who lost their lives overseas fighting for something. God bless our troops.

"American Idol" Worshippers...Fools 1

Jimi Hendrix, Frank Sinatra, Luciano Pavoratti, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Sammy Davis, Jr., Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley...NO artist has ever gotten this much coverage. We've had Presidents die and not receive the kind of coverage that is being given to Michael Jackson.

Why?

Meanwhile, that our Marines and soldiers are losing their lives daily in the fields of Afghanistan hardly gets any notice from the MSM now that it isn't convenient to glowing masquerade of "coverage" of Obama's "great" leadership skills. It was only relevant under the Bush administration to give us a daily and nightly tally of the number of soldiers killed or wounded that day...each and every day...

Because the Mainstream media has identified that we have become a society without a moral compass, completely engaged in pleasure-seeking and escapism through idol worship. This could not have been exemplified better than in an election in which the candidate that could elicit the most fantastical reactions based on an appearance of celebrity and "cuteness" could be given the right to sit at the head of the table, even though he is completely devoid of the character such a position requires to serve it's best interest, and despite all the evidence of his disdain for all it's principles and legacies.

"American Idol" Worshippers...Fools 2

Not only was a studied and committed Marxist and anti-American exceptionalist like Barack Hussein Obama ( who describes the Constitution he perjured himself in swearing to uphold, as “fundamentally flawed”) elected simply and solely because he was perceived by those who voted for him as some type of "star celebrity"---but this is the same ilk who would vote for a "wrestler" for the Governor of a state, and an, arguably, insane and proven liar and fraud of a comedian, totally devoid of either character or intellect, to serve as their representative in the U.S. Senate; solely because of his "TV stardom!"

The elitist MSM has become the National Inquirer. They and the political class they serve (Liberal Fascist Democrats) have learned the power that exploiting the ignorance of serious thought given by idol worshippers to the real issues that affect their lives.

"American Idol" Worshippers...Fools 3

This idiotic orgy and media circus that is being witnessed right now, concerning the elevation of Michael Jackson (a child-molester/drug-addicted tragedy of the destructiveness of misplaced adulation) is further evidence of the willingly participated-in debasing of the American mentality, and fits in with the rest of the liberal agenda which thrives on those who have lost all sense of a moral compass and a connection with healthy spirituality.

The elevation of debauchery and the interest shown by the idiots who gain some type of voyeuristic pleasure in peeping into the scurrilous and scandalous lives of "stars" gives them the power to further lull the "public" to sleep; and to further facilitate, thereby, their paying less attention to the foot, they and their political masters, are firmly planting up the American public's collective butts; and to dishonor those who continue to give their all to protect the few remaining rights and qualities that truly represent the best of America.

...but...don't let that stop you from enjoying the freak show.

Let's Substitute Jackson With "Reagan"..
The following events occurred during the five-day- ad nausem funeral for that freakish anti-Christ Reagan:

Monday, June 7 - A U.S. soldier was killed and two others wounded after their vehicle hit a landmine in southeastern Afghanistan. They were taken to Kandahar airfield hospital where the one soldier died.
Tuesday, June 8 - U.S.-led coalition and Afghan forces completed a week-long operation in the Daychopan District of Zabul Province,Afghanistan. Through the course of the operation, 73 rebel fighters were killed and 13 captured. Six Afghan government forces and four coalition soldiers were wounded, and none killed.
Afghan interim president Hamid Karzai began a week-long visit to the United States. His first appearance was at Fort Drum, New York.

Truly American Heroes.
Michelle all our boys in harms way are the real American Heroes, the gentlemen you named in your column PFC's JUSTIN CASILLAS AND AARON FAIRBAIRN AND LT. BRIAN BRADSHAW, we salute them for giving the ultimate gift- their lives for us.
These fine gentlemen are our true heroes they fought and died for us, so don't worry Michelle it seem's the majority of us are in celebrity worship mode because of the blanket media coverage, and it's shameful when they don't acknowledge our fighting boys, but alot of us have realised a long time ago that it's because of our fighting Heroes that there can be celebrity worship. Our fighting boys provide that warm, comfortable woobie that they all wrap themselves in.
LONG LIVE ALL AMERICAN FIGHTERS.

Jackson was worldwide
Even the people of Iraq and Afghanistan are mourning an American today. Yes, we have American heroes, but Michael Jackson was a global hero.

Could Not Agree More.
Tomorrow, my roomate will be attending a true American Hero's funeral. His nephew, SGT Timothy David was killed by an IED in Sadr City, Iraq on June 30. A sniper by training, Tim was on his fourth tour in Iraq, after also having served two tours in Afganistan. Tomorrow, July 8, he will be laid to rest, yet I have only been able to find only four stories, all on one local TV station.
I am sick and tired of hearing about "Whacko Jacko."
Sure he was talented, but in no way a true hero like Sgt Timothy David.

Michael Jackson.
Who was this pasty faced, white boy?

Just a thought...
I completely agree. But I for one, I can only say that I feel sorry for MJ's passing. He had remarkable talent that can't be denied. The entertainment world has lost someone that was well loved and for the most part, appreciated for his music and his contributions to those in need. Beyond that, I don't know the man personally. I don't know anything about his personal life and all the legal matters that were talked about in the news.

The moment he took his last breath his fate was sealed. Where he is now is between him and the Lord Jesus Christ. Only He knows his heart.

So the media is going crazy covering every aspect of this event. Today, I watched the memorial and paid my own private respects to him and that's where it ends. Any normal person will just now let it go and go on with the business of living.

This could also serve as a time to remember the importance of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to non-belivers. I think that was the most painful thing to watch on TV today. These poor souls believing that if your a good person you get to go to heaven. Throwing the name of God around so loosely. As if we are saved by works and not by grace. I did cring every time I heard someone praise him as if he were some kind of God. It shook me down to my very soul.

Let's pray for all those lost people out there. It proves that we have a lot of work still to do as servents of God. And.... continue to pray for our country, our troops around the world and our government.

Peter King was absolutely correct.
This putrid display of messed up priorities speaks volumes about what our country has become.

Tribute to Fallen Soldiers of America

History will record that the American Soldier and those American Soldiers who have fallen, rank in the greatest humans who have ever lived on this planet.

The American Soldier has set free millions in bondage and defended the freedom of America with willingness of the ultimate sacrifice.

The Fallen American Soldier is someone who walked the hero's path. Someone who walked into the heart of darkness for Duty, Honor and Country.

The American Soldier waits for the day that they have lived for and trained for their entire life - to defend until death, their families and America, its citizens and freedom.

The American soldier is the fiercest Warrior ever in history, because their mission is the defense of family, neighbors, America and freedom.

The families of the American Soldier, while their faces beamed with pride, their hearts were filled with anxiety and tears as they watched their American Soldier leave to defend them and this Great Country.

Families and neighbors look with horror as the military vehicle stops in front of the home of the American Soldier, to inform them of the ultimate sacrifice of their hero.

No honor can be too great; every tribute is too small for the Fallen American Soldier and their families.

God Bless the American Soldier and their families!

God have mercy on every American Soldier in our History who has made the ultimate Sacrifice in defense of this 'Great Nation' and setting Humans free all over the World.

Michael Jackson was an entertainer. Michael Jackson was a celebrity. Michael Jackson was emphatically not a "hero."

Shame
Proof of America's disgrace is the existence of Al Franken as a US senator, and the calls for a day of mourning for a 50 year old freak pedophile like Jackson. Who could blame God for immediately melting the polar ice caps and flooding both coasts of our nation?

Hey, all you guys buried in France who stormed the beaches at Normandy, is this what you died for?

Jesus Christ!

GunnyG, Retired Geek et al
Former Boston Globe columnist Don Feder commented on the death - and subsequent glorification - of Princess Diana with words that I think are just as applicable to the death and glorification of Michael Jackson:

a vacuous symbol of a vacuous age

Amen, Michelle!
We need to honor the real heroes of this country, those who willingly go to war to protect our way of life and keep us safe from those who seek to do us harm, not some freak who liked to sleep with young boys. My heart goes out to those parents who lost their sons.

My father passed away on June 17. He wasn't a celebrity and never performed on stage, but he was a good man. He worked hard all his life, built a business that was well known and well respected in this area, raised a family, never behaved inappropriately with either me or my sister, and loved God, so I guess he didn't fit in with the modern idea of parenthood. Aside from a few notices in the local newspapers there wasn't much notice taken in the media of his death, but those who knew him certainly took notice. I can't tell you how many people came up to me at his funeral to tell me how much he had touched their lives and how much he would be missed. Its men like him that should be honored, not child molesters.

Oh, and for Adolph and The7Sticks, I really feel sorry for you people. The hate you have in your hearts is sad.

Ironic, Michelle
That last night I wrote a similar blog after having to watch the Disney Channel to escape Michael Mania.

I don't want to be involved in the funeral process of a man that I never knew that never affected me in any positive way other than some feet tapping and singing in the car.

My heart goes out to the family of Michael Jackson as it does any family that loses their loved ones. But my heart is more in line with our men and women and uniform, as my brother currently serves in Fallujah on his second tour of duty.

My brother is a hero and so are the men and women serving beside him and I wish people would wake up and see that.

Speaking of Heroes

Gee, say it ain't so.

gunnyg
can't wait to get home and read your blog tonight! I have a new one up similar to this article.

A Question For the Group Today
If Donny Osmond had picked up little boys and put them in his bed and if he died today, do you think the media would be covering his funeral?

No? Gee, I wonder why? I mean, they were both cultural icons. What's the difference?

Someone give me an answer, please. And don't hide it in shades of gray. I like things answered in black and white terms.

Standshisground
Exactly right.

Jackson's music was crap and he had not done anything noteworthy (if you liked his sh8t) since the 80's. Other than hanging his brat off of a balcony, he was just another unhinged liberal kook.

M Jackson
I forgot where i heard it last night but someone said that of all those celeb's and pols that were kissng mj's dead a$$, there isnt one of them that would allow their young son to stay over night at mj's house.

Will The Media Cover This?? Heck,No.
Jury sees videos of La. congressman accepting cash
By MATTHEW BARAKAT – 18 hours ago

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — A federal jury has seen video of a former Louisiana congressman accepting a suitcase filled with $100,000 in cash outside a northern Virginia hotel.

The videos played Tuesday are a key piece of evidence in the bribery trial of William Jefferson, a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans. He's accused of accepting more than $400,000 in bribes to broker business deals in Africa.

The FBI recorded the pickup from four different angles, all of which were shown to the jury.

On the video, Jefferson seemed wary of accepting the money in public. When asked by an FBI informant if he wanted to peek inside the suitcase at the contents, he tersely replied, "No, I would not."

Jefferson's lawyers have said Jefferson's business deals weren't illegal.

American Sweetheart
Just read your blog. Kudos.

I've met live CMoH awardees, Marines who went ashore at Iwo, 101st and 82d AB who dropped in on D-Day, and subvets of WW2, and the deformed pederast would not have been fit enough to wipe the mud off of their boots.

This country needs a high pressure enema to flush out the crap, most of which is living in LA and Hollyweird.

Rowly
Yeah, only YEARS after the crime does the libpig go to trial. I'll only be impressed if he does time.

IF he goes to prison, you can COUNT on Comrade Barry to pardon him.

Let's go a little further with this
idea.

It is not just one person, whether Michael Jackson or whoever, it is the spirit of this world.

It is a struggle at the deepest level in the souls of men. Who will they serve?

1 John 5:19 "the whole world is reclining in the grip of the evil one" is the Bible depiction.

Those who want right need to go to the Source where the problems are spelled out in stark black and white and where the solution has stood for in direct contradiction to this world and its evil affections for 2000+ years.

Michael Jackson
made a lot of people in the media and entertainment industry lots of money, that why he's treated like a hero. His death is being milked like his life was. These soldiers that died weren't benificial to the media (at this time).

Over the top
Being a Conservative, this article is the type of thing I wish we Conservatives would stop doing.

The madness with non-stop Michael Jackson coverage is one thing, but to suggest that the population at large is going to be interested in honoring every soldier that is killed in combat is simply unrealistic.

Another thing I wish we would stop doing is labeling every American soldier a "hero". There are of course military heroes, but just being in uniform or dying in battle does not make someone a "hero".

It might rub some on my side the wrong way, but Conservatives are going over the top with their praise of the military. So much so, that we're almost patronizing them. But whether it be praise or patronizing, I can hardly see where an objection to the Jackson madness needs to be countered by throwing the soldiers out there as a substitute.

King of pop?
Heck, I thought that was Coca Cola...

GunnyG
He will probably be acquitted because as Marion Barry said years ago,"The Bi!ch set me up"! They will no doubt find some flimsy excuse and you will hear not a peep out of the RINO'S in congress.

They kept quiet when he was there and will keep quiet now. It would not look 'seemly' if they interferred with an ongoing crime and trial.

It's no wonder they are light years away from sucessfully competing with the criminal element in the Democrat Party.

I am about to the point
where I am so disgusted with the people in this country that I would say most aren't worth defending.

To glorify this sick freak while our brave youngsters are fighting and dying is despicible.

My grandson just left for the Marines, I pray for him and all our other young patriots that they come home safely.

I especially worry that they will be placed at additional risk by the fool in the WH who is on a mission to destroy this country and everything it stands for.

I'm still waiting for him to say something about the trooper who was murdered last month or some words of comfort for the families who lost loved ones this week....but he sure didn't waste any time coming out with a statement on that sicko pedophile, disgusting.

Signs of the Times
A committed socialist in the White House.

A clown gives the Dems 60 votes in the Senate. (By the way, where are all the hand-wringing articles from the Left-Stream Media about how Franken stole the MN senate election with fraudulent ballots?)

A dead pedophile is worshipped in LA.

The sacrifices of the loyal patriots are ignored.

God help us, because we appear to be completely unable to help ourselves.

Re: JJ...
The worst part of the funeral was seeing Jesse Jackson doing his phot op right in front of the posters of MJ. He trult is selfish.....

terry
I'm sorry, but you're dead wrong. Volunteering to defend this nation in crappy conditions for little pay and benefits, because you love this country and want to protect it and its citizens IS heroic.

As a former Soldier, I appreciated every kind word and every letter of recognition while I was deployed. Every kindness helps when you're far from your loved ones - away for a year or more - taking a pay cut (as many in the National Guard do - as I did) - serving in a strange land.

These men and women ARE heroes. For you to diminish that by saying that "Conservatives are going over the top with their praise of the military" is the height of ignorance from someone who obviously never volunteered to serve this nation. It's disgusting.

No, we cannot honor every single Soldier who died in action - killed by the very same, violent, virulent scum that wants to kill you and every other infidel - but we can certainly gain some damn perspective!

Sick sick sick
There is definitely a faction in our society that is sick. We should not glorify it or let it become the norm.
Anyone who actually "mourns" someone they only saw on screen is sick.
Anyone who "worships" any celebrity is sick.

The media of course will cover the ghoulish, the trainwreck, the weird. In jacko they had it all. We should view it for what it is.

The people attending that memorial were sick, unless they were personal friends of MJ or his family. They missed Jonestown apparently.

What to say of congress? A total embarrassment.
Pandering to the sick. Of course that sickness is responsible for votes, and helped install the occupant of the white house.

Who paid for that event anyway? The generous citizens of California perhaps--they're so flush these days.

"...I stand with GOP Rep. Peter King of New York, who rightly skewered these celebrity-worshiping warped priorities as "an orgy of glorification."..."

The confirmed hateist Malkin FINALLY decides to "honor" the troops. You and your ilk are using them again. Want to honor them? Call for fully funding programs for the military family and veterans, a Democratic Party initiative. Want to thank them? Urge all Americans to join the military; call for a national service draft. Apologize for squandering our military in the Iraqi sandbox and allowing Afghanistan to fester and Osama and Al Q to now be in a position to threaten nuclear Pakistan. That might be best instead of shamelessly using the troops to take away from MJ; why not recognize both for their contributions.

It fascinates me that you reactionaries always find issues of "honor" that cost no money. How about calling for a special tax to pay for the failed Bush's war of choice in Iraq? Words come cheap Malkin. How about calling for actual contributions of blood and money?

Well of course Michelle is right
How could anyone deny that what she is saying is true? But we get the entertainment culture that we want. If there weren't an audience for celebrity worship, then the entertain. biz would focus on something else.

So stop getting all self-righteous and puffed up with indignity, Malkin - you more than most people understand that you go with what sells.

And let me remind you: That liberal bastion that everyone conservative despises, NPR regularly pays tribute to those who have been killed on their Nightly News with Jim Lehrer. A lot more than some so-called "patriotic" Amercians do. And who the he*l is Malkin anyway to define what 'patriotism' is??

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't like Jamie Foxx who said blacks SHARED him with the world? MJ was a black thing, etc?

Seems to me blacks are the racists.

BTW, wasn't noted race p*mp Al Sharpton on hand to extort some cash from the white-owned music industry?

Excuse me if I don't celebrate the life of a perverted pederast but I do celebrate his death. It was long overdue.

Terry: "There are of course military heroes, but just being in uniform or dying in battle does not make someone a "hero"."

Anyone who voluntarily puts himself at risk for another is acting heroically, whether he lives or dies.

Greater love has no man...

The pilot that landed the plane in the river and the Metro operator were not heroes - they didn't volunteer and were victims like the others, attempting to save their own butts. Sports players are not heroes, either. No wonder we can't recognize heroism when we see it.

rockisback1@yahoo.com
He was big back in the 80's, I'll give you that, but what has he done since then? He has gone from one crazy episode to another. Holding your infant child over a balcony? Having young boys, to whom you are not related, sleep over with you for five days? Having so many plastic surgeries performed on his nose that there was nothing left to work on? Having his face lightened to where he looked white? People like you just want to remember the cute Michael Jackson from when he was so much younger and ignore the freak show he became. You will excuse me while I honor those whose deaths deserve honor.

wrong rockisback
If this were Elvis or Frank, I would complain just as loudly. I am sick of ALL celebrity worship. Millions of Americans who waste vast amounts of time, money and energy on following the lives of sports and entertainment idiots cannot be bothered to know much of anything about politics, history, economics, etc. How many of them can name more than one or two elected leaders, or explain just of the few of the sections on the Bill of Rights, or explain basic economics? Far too few to matter. So what do we have? An uniformed electorate, sending corrupt pols to state capitals and Washington.

I give Jacko no more and no less sympathy than any other dead entertainer.

Oh, really?
"Urge all Americans to join the military; call for a national service draft."

And wasn't it you libs who were trying to scare people into voting against GWB by falsely claiming (read: LYING) that he intended to bring back the draft?

BAM! There it is.

Nicki
No, I was never in the National Guard -- I just spent 20 years on Active Duty. And so I am very comfortable with saying that being in the military does not make someone a "hero".

And I will also state that the overwhelming vast majority of people that go into the military, do not go in because of some compelling sense of obligation to "serve their country." They certainly do serve their country, but while it may sound good to portray them as having felt obligated with a sense of patriotism to serve and protect our country -- it simply isn't true. There are a few that do, but not the vast majority.

Most people go in to the military for one of several reasons:

- It's a job that sounds exciting and appealing.

- They get to travel and see things that they might not otherwise see.

- They believe it will be an adventure.

- They intend on doing a stint, gaining some experience and getting money to go to school when their enlistment is over.

Those reasons and some others are why most folks go into the military -- very few have a burning desire to "defend their country." And guess what -- that's OK!

It doesn't matter why we go into the military as long as we do and do the job as needed. But we don't have to pretend that everyone in the military is a "hero". Nor do we have to go around seeing who can outdo the next by praising and worhiping military members. That becomes patronizing and insulting in my view.

Oh, really?
"Urge all Americans to join the military; call for a national service draft."

And wasn't it you libs who were trying to scare people into voting against GWB by falsely claiming (read: LYING) that he intended to bring back the draft?"

Nope actually many of us were urging an honest draft rather than the failed Bush's actual back door draft of honest Americans.

No, I was never in the National Guard -- I just spent 20 years on Active Duty. And so I am very comfortable with saying that being in the military does not make someone a "hero".

And I will also state that the overwhelming vast majority of people that go into the military, do not go in because of some compelling sense of obligation to "serve their country." ...Those reasons and some others are why most folks go into the military -- very few have a burning desire to "defend their country." And guess what -- that's OK!"

A voice of reason! Well said. When everyone is a hero; no one is a hero which is I suspect is what is really going on here. The other point is that I think you are right on why most join but I suspect most stay to serve as much as any other reason.

Let’s see Michael/Michelle/He/She/It Jackson had Mental Issues, Drug Addiction, B@st@rd Children and likely painted his TINY Liberal Hemale Member yellow and engaged in relations with a chimp. OH YEAH! He is a Liberal! Noticed how many Cherished Liberal Values this Preening Pansy engaged in: Bestiality, Dysfunction, Intoxication, Promiscuity and Addiction. Thankfully all the Liberal Trash in America engages in such activity so they will start dropping like flies SOON!

I see a few of the Libtard Trolls have shown up already. Like I said yesterday, they must have to post a certain amount to get the money for their Booze/Coke/Crack/Pot.

Meanwhile the Kenyan Coward was negotiating nukes with Russia? Being the Kenyan Coward he is, he all but grabbed his ankles at the podium for Putin. I wonder if he was born a Gutless Coward or if Liberals taught him to be on in college. Apparently the criteria for a country to be allowed to have Nuclear arms is you must be ruled by Power Hungry, Self Centered, Narcissist. If that is the case, then America should have so many nukes that the landscape looks like a porcupine in defensive posture.

Also notice that now that the Kenyan Coward is POTUS there is ZERO outrage over KIA’s from Liberal Trash. Wait until the Noko Maniacal Midget lobs a couple of nukes in Liberal Shiteholes like Seattle and/or Portland. Then the Liberal Girlymen will bleat like Michael Jackson’s chimp did when they were playing “hide the banana”.

More cheap words from you, who accuse any veteran or active member who does not agree with Obumf^ck and DemVoteVets os being p a phony.

Ms. Malkin
I saw this discussed on the fox news 5:00 program. I have never understood the worship of celebrities. The sickness of it is sad. Not only the young men in the service, but what of the police officers, or firemen who die in the line of duty? The people we call heroes today are not heroes, but sickos.

military
I did 10 years in the military - half of it active duty. I've seen more folks who join because they feel gratitude to this country and want to serve it than the ones who do so just for the opportunities. While any reason to join the military is OK, most of the folks I served with - both on active duty and the guard - have an overwhelming desire to serve their country and protect their people. These are Soldiers with college degrees, people from well-off families and private schools, people who were compelled to serve and protect their nation after the 9-11 attacks... They ARE heroes. They are heroes because they give up a lot to do what they do, not for the travel opportunities (to smelly third-world holes), and certainly not for the "free" medical care (you get what you pay for). And comparatively speaking, very few people in this vast nation of ours do that.

A person who loses their life in the service of his country, working to stop terrorists is a hero. A musician who may or may not have diddled little boys, but certainly behaved inappropriately by having them in his bed, is not.

A person who chooses to serve his nation in uniform, gives up a lucrative career to deploy with his unit, helps establish critical infrastructure, teaches troops and protects freedom IS a hero.

A rich entertainer who may have been extremely talented, but who took controversy with him everywhere he went is not.

If you HAVE served, I do not understand your disdainful attitude. At all! No one is advocating a parade for every single Soldier killed in action. But when that pernicious psycho Sheila Jackson Lee introduces a Congressional resolution to honor that plastic weirdo as some kind of hero, while our troops are killed by fundamentalist insurgents, this nation is losing its perspective.

Who is the true hero here?

Great Black Man
Michael could have run for governor in California and won by a landslide. The people have spoken and he is their hero. He has shaped the face of American culture. Nobody will ever be worshipped as much. The death of Elvis or Lennon cannot compare with the sorrow that is shown for this great Black man.

How many children....
....did Pfc. Casillas molest? How many times did Pfc. Fairbairn scream that he hates this country and wishes that she would burn? How many people at military recruiting stations did 1st Lt. Bradshaw shoot in cold blood?

None?

That right there answers the question of why Hal the Torturer and his America-hating fascist filth in the media ignore them. They LOVE child molesters and America-haters.

Hal caught in ANOTHER lie!
"Nope actually many of us were urging an honest draft rather than the failed Bush's actual back door draft of honest Americans."

Here's a challenge for you, Hal: Write JUST ONE post without telling at least 5 lies.

Where was this super-secret "back door draft"? Are you telling me that you ACTUALLY believe that Bush sent out the CIA to kidnap people, put uniforms on them, and order them to fight in his wars?

Seriously Hal, does your mommy know you are such a habitual liar?

Not so fast

I hate to call you a liar (well, actually, I don't hate it, since it's such great fun), but you, sir, are a liar.

Congressional Resolution
No, MJ should not be honored.

Even if he was never convicted of child molestation, he is no "hero" and no role model for our children.

Self indulgent; he liked to rub his crotch as he danced and spent hundreds of millions of dollars on his whims.

Ashamed of his race; he bleached his skin, mutilated his features with surgery after surgery, and had women inseminated with white sperm and then claimed they were his biological children.

The excuse is that he was 'abused and never had a childhood'. That sad but it also is the rationale behind most child molestors and psychopaths.

Wacko Jacko, does not not deserve to be honored by Congress.

Sorry, caught a typo
That should be "Military", not "Militaty"

MELVIN
If Michael Jackson, the great singer, dancer, pedophile, psycho, pervert could have been elected Governor of California, it just says what a bunch of NUTS the people of California really are.

Michael Jackson was a talented performer, whose personal problems and demons, combined with the legion of bloodsucking leeches who sought him out and attached themselves to him throughout his life (and I include his family in all of this) brought him to a very sad end. He is no more and no less.

Michael Jackson did not "heal the racist divide" in America, or Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson wouldn't have jobs. There is a racist divide in America, but it does NOT come from whites against blacks anymore. Michael Jackson was NOT a "great humanitarian" or The King, or a Great Healer or any of the other crap they said about him at the memorial service yesterday. He was just a talented, troubled guy, who met an untimely end at the hands of the people who should have been looking out for him. Instead they have sucked him dry.

RIP, Michael. And teach my recently departed mother how to moonwalk, OK?

Well...
Don't be so quick to ask that the media give more coverage to the deaths of servicepeople. By the time this Jackson memorial rolled around people were sick of the spectacle and many were ready to let him rest in peace. The attention span of this country is so short that if we did this for every American death in SW Asia people would be writing articles saying "ENOUGH ALREADY! LET THESE POOR MEN AND WOMEN REST IN PEACE!" As a former 82nd Airborne paratrooper with a few deployments under my belt, I can completely sympathize with those who have lost family and friends, but I say let the media keep the circus for entertainers. We didn't serve to be glorified.

Hal
No, most in the military who stay beyond their first enlistment are not doing so to "serve".

They've made a little rank, gotten beyond the shiite jobs and are comfortable in the environment. Some have gotten married and maybe had children during their intitial enlistment and see the military as job security for their family.

But to the larger point. Most military people are simply doing a job and only a small percentage of them are ever in any real danger. It's not as if military folks as a whole, wake-up every morning, put on their Super-hero cape and run out the door for another day of keeping the country safe. Most military people are just doing a day-to-day job like everyone else -- there's nothing heroic at all about what they do.

But every now and again, some of these ordinary people are put in situations that require extraordinary efforts. These folks then perform their duties as they are supposed to do and sometimes there are those who perform truly heroic acts. But for folks to run around acting as if everyone in uniform is a "hero" and worthy of our constant praise and worship, doesn't make any sense whatsoever. And it takes away from those rare few who genuinely have performed heroic acts.

I am a Conservative and a staunch one. But I do not like the way alot of Conservatives patronize our military folks.

melvin
That's a joke, right?

"Michael could have run for governor in California and won by a landslide." -- Yes, just what a bankrupt state needs - a man who made millions, if not billions of dollars, but couldn't keep himself out of financial trouble. Californians are obviously douchebags.

"The people have spoken and he is their hero." -- Are these the same "people" who can name the last four American Idols, but can't name the Vice President of the United States? Yeah, that's saying a lot.

"He has shaped the face of American culture. Nobody will ever be worshipped as much. The death of Elvis or Lennon cannot compare with the sorrow that is shown for this great Black man." -- Michael Jackson was black? Wow. That's news! The fact that there's worship of an entertainer, regardless of color, who was a fiscally irresponsible pervert says a lot for this country. Your emphasis on his (former) race tells me a lot about your reasoning and thought. Racism works both ways, you know.

Conservtives Hate Hollywood...
Its no secret that repubs/cons absolutely hate
Hollywood and celebrities period. Why you ask?
Because without a doubt the most famous who speak out on political/world issues lean to the left and are highly critical of the GOP and conservatives in general.

The right wing has long has a suspicion of Hollywood and celebrities branding them as communist, socialist and anti-american within their ranks. Where do you think the word McCarthyism came from.

To people who think like Ms. Malkin only right wing republicans can be true american heroes,
as flawed as they may be. The last few weeks have brought many of them out in their hypocrisy, while they talk out of both sides of their mouths. Family values on one side and adultery on the other.

These seem to be the territory of religious extremists not soldiers or moderates and liberals; don't you think?

"...That right there answers the question of why Hal the Torturer and his America-hating fascist filth in the media ignore them. They LOVE child molesters and America-haters..."

Really? Please do see above. American haters it would seem to me would be those who so damaged the country by crushing the economy, wages, families, infrastructure, the nation's good reputation,... All results of forty years of conservative incompetence and failed leadership. Don't talk to me about hating America - look at all you write.

Do you ever read what you post? Iraq a war of choice, most if not all wars are wars of choice. WW2 was one exception, but the war in Europe was a war of choice, even before the attack on Pearl Harbor. To call Iraq a war of choice tells me you have no understanding of history or warfare.
Kirk

ON CELEBRITY WORSHIP
I agree on some level that our military members deserve lots of recognition, particularly those who have served admirably. One thing I do not understand, though, is how someone can be agog over celebrity worship. In some respects, I understand celebrity worship more than I do the worship of a god. I've seen people fall into tears because Jesus appeared to them in a pile of mashed potatoes. At least the celebrity is real. There is some proof that they exist. I, personally, don't worship anyone or anything, and wouldn't be crying over the arrival of the Beatles, but at the same time, I don't see much sanity in worshipping a god either. Not without some proof. It has also been made more difficult by the volumes of 'religious' people doing horrifying things, from priests who molest young boys all the way back to the millions killed during the Crusades, to Jimmy Swaggert having his way with a prostitute. I don't get any of it, frankly. I do think, though, that some who worship Michael Jackson are worshipping him because his music changed their lives. It made them smile and dance when everything else in their lives sucked. If church feels good for that reason, great - go to church. Just don't tell someone that it's not okay to worship Michael and in the same sentence tell them they'll burn in eternal hell if they don't accept Jesus as their savior.

Nope I am telling you that the failed Bush used the National Guard WAY beyond their agreed contracts. Thank goodness they are professionals and continued to serve with honor. The same applies to long stop loss actions keeping troops in well beyond their contracts and recalling troops long after their active national service commitment. All this was done to avoid paying for a larger Army or to institute a real draft. Classic conservative avoid paying for what you use at all cost.

It's not that. It's their blatant anti-Americanism and hypocrisy that we can't stand. They despise the very policies and economics which make them wealthy. Who else do you know who complains about taking pay cuts from $20 million per picture to $15 million?

Then again, if you look at all the anti-Iraq War movies which came out, they got great reviews from the "chattering classes," but bombed at the box office. What does that say about how Americans feel about their beliefs?

Iraq was NOT a war of choice? Please!
Kirk in MN. Seriously? It's common knowledge that there was no connection between Iraq and 911. And, how would you explain the meetings GW had about attacking Iraq BEFORE 911 even occurred? It's shocking what some people believe. I hope you're not one of those who still believe that there are massive weapons of mass destruction there, too.

This is not conjecture - there's proof that it was a choice. Quotes, Downing Street memos, etc.

Tell me - do you believe torturing people was a choice?

War of choice
Of course it was a war of choice. They had a choice of going to Afghanistan as an alternative. Hitler's attack on USSR was a war of choice since he could have decided to mop up the UK first so as not to be fighting on two fronts.
You seem to contradict yourself:
"Most if not all wars are wars of choice."
