Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Conflict of interest stories make great front-page headlines -- except when the newspaper that revels in breaking them is itself in the middle of an ethical morass. Take The New York Times.

Jennifer 8. Lee, one of the muckraking newspaper's reporters, recently boasted on Twitter that the Paper of Record has now "sold $2 million worth of Obama merchandise (book, commemorative editions, etc.)." The president, she noted chirpily, "is good for the bottom line." This lucrative media-government partnership is on proud display at the Times' online Barack Obama store, where readers can buy mugs, books and framed photos of the newspaper's political boosterism.

A press plate of the Times' Obama inauguration front page goes for $149. A "set of Obama victory coffee mugs" sells for $24.95. And for only $1,129, you can own a signed and framed messianic photo of Obama taken by Times photographer Damon Winter -- and neutrally titled "Shining Moment," with the candidate in artsy silhouette as a sunburst illuminates the scenery.

It's a short leap from there to Times reporter Jeff Zeleny, who infamously asked the president in a prime-time press briefing a few weeks ago what had "enchanted" him the most about being in the White House. You could almost see the sunbursts in Zeleny's pupils as he tossed the drool-covered softball to Dear Leader.

I've often said that it's the journalistic sins of omission that are more damning than the industry's sins of commission. Right on cue, the Times acknowledged this weekend that it had spiked a story on possible illegal coordination between left-wing activist groups ACORN and Project Vote and the Obama campaign just before Election Day. The charges involved Team Obama sharing top campaign donor lists with ACORN's supposedly nonpartisan canvassing arm, Project Vote (the same group Obama worked for as a Chicago community organizer).

New York Times public editor Clark Hoyt tried to spin it as a "tip that didn't pan out." He airily dismissed the charges by ACORN whistleblower Anita MonCrief as "nonsense" and quoted Times national editor Suzanne Daley, who shrugged, "You have to cut bait after a while." It was an all too convenient judgment that just happened to be made as Election Day loomed. (Contrast this with the editorial doggedness of the Times' editors in pursuing and publishing the Star Magazine-quality insinuations that GOP presidential candidate John McCain had carried on an affair with Washington lobbyist Vicki Iseman.)

Hoyt attempted to paint MonCrief as an unreliable source. But Times reporter Stephanie Strom had relied on her for months to break a series of ACORN corruption stories. Moreover, MonCrief's allegations fit the shady money-shuffling pattern among ACORN and its affiliates to a T. Strom had reported on ACORN's own internal review of shady money transfers among its web of affiliates conducted by lawyer Elizabeth Kingsley.

The Kingsley review of the incestuous relationship between ACORN and Project Vote found, in the Times' own words, that it was "impossible to document that Project Vote's money had been used in a strictly nonpartisan manner" and "raised concerns not only about a lack of documentation to demonstrate that no charitable money was used for political activities but also about which organization controlled strategic decisions." ACORN, joked independent investigative journalist Matthew Vadum, "moves money around its network with a boldness and agility that Pablo Escobar would have admired."

MonCrief says she was prepared to hand over documentation on the Obama/Project Vote donor-sharing arrangement to Strom before the Times' editors decided to cut bait. The paper's Election Eve incuriosity about potential tax and campaign finance violations by Team Obama belies its repeated denials of bias and conflict. At a self-aggrandizing media conference in 2007, New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller declared:

"We are agnostic as to where a story may lead; we do not go into a story with an agenda or a preconceived notion. We do not manipulate or hide facts to advance an agenda. We strive to preserve our independence from political and economic interests… We do not work in the service of a party, or an industry, or even a country. When there are competing views of a situation, we aim to reflect them as clearly and fairly as we can."

Rhetoric, meet reality.

I wonder
where Ranger'sIQ's-29 usual racist comment about MM is.

SFA1973
Be patient. He may actually be reading the article for once before making that absurd comment... or maybe he's flying a covert night op at his local Walmart.

The NY Slimes is BIASED????????????

Whoa! Stop the presses!

Literally. Please. Stop the presses.

Chia Pet Question
Let me see if I've got this straight. If the New York Times is using its pages to sell Obama memorabilia, that means the Times is pro-Obama. But it seems that every time I turn on FOX, FOX is trying to sell me a Chia Pet of Obama's head. Does that mean FOX is now pushing Obama? Somebody better tell Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Dick Morris, Michelle Malkin, Greta VanSusteren, Brit Hume, Cal Thomas, Pat Buchanan, Bill O'Reilly, Mike Huckabee, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Ollie North, Chuck Norris, and the rest of the FOX stable.

K-9
He's not the Wal-Mart helicopter ride is down for maintenance.

lilly:
Did you actually read the commentary or are you functionally illiterate?

This Reminds Me of Pelosi
Nancy Pelosi is in trouble mainly because she and other Democrats have been demonizing Pres. Bush for years on every issue imagineable, including how prisoners have been interrogated. Now that it comes to light that she knew what was going on she is being buried by her own words.

Now the NY Times has painted itself into a corner by claiming objectivity, but can't be objective without hurting itself. The irony is that they have done the impossible by making themselves look even more ridiculous as any objective observer can see that ACORN is a political arm of the Democratic party.

Uhh...
Can I still get the Bush coffee mugs, the $1,127 Bush signed supercandidate glowing masterous sun picture ? Bush Times pro prez t-shirts ? Can I get the Bush stuff still ?
Was there ever any Bush stuff ?

dear leader HA
Has anyone else noticed the dear leaders shrines at every airport book store across the country, there’s even a new little blue book with his face etched in it filled with his speeches.

Very reminiscent of the little red book the REDS required all to carry.

Burn your copy now!

For love _and_ money
The dinosaur media were infatuated with O'Blahblah from the moment he declared his candidacy. Spinning or spiking any story likely to harm his prospects is just one of the gifts they bestowed on him. Now that he's doling out trillions of dollars in corporate bailouts, he's their key to survival. They need him to shut down talk radio, regulate the Internet, and make up for the revenue they've lost by ethical and managerial ineptitude. This is one marriage destined to last.

Lilly
I don't know where or when you saw FOX NEWS selling Chia Head Obamas (every time you turned on FOX).

I stay tuned to Fox because it is the only place I can get the news without omissions or commissions of the facts. Yet in all my viewing of them I have never once seen Fox selling Chia Heads.

I certainly did see them report that the Obama Chia heads were being sold (and then immediately taken off the market) by a chain of drug stores that later deemed them "inappropriate".

Please educate me - 'who' was hawking these articles for sale on Fox?

Lilly doesn't want a Chia Head ...
...in her house because it's embarrasing. They all have a higher IQ than Lilly.

Keller and Duke
You should see the prevarications and explications du jour that Keller offered after it was obvious that the Duke students were innocent, and the Times had engaged in egregious misconduct on their terribly biases reportage of the facts of the case. Pro-Nifong, anti-student: Keller showed that he really didn't give a whit that his paper helped extend and promulgate the myth that made the young men's lives a nightmare.

He has no shame, and on that alone, the paper should be removed from the planet as a functioning business (via bankruptcy.)

"or a country"
Well, there's some truth in the Times statement. They specifically said here, black-on-white, that they are not pro-American.

Good to have an admission.

Bill Keller
Read the last statement by Keller and keep a straight face. With the exception as mzk pointed out "or a country".
You can't do it can you?

I hate to admit it,
But I too got caught up in the “Dear Leader” craze.

“…the Paper of Record has now "sold $2 million worth of Obama merchandise”

I bought a pallet of obambi toilet paper. And now every morning I get to personally tell him what I think of his policies and give him a 'commemorative' flush.

P.S. NAM65-66, "Lilly doesn't want a Chia Head in her house because it's embarrasing. They all have a higher IQ than Lilly."

Oh my sweet freaking jaysus, I laughed so hard I shot coffee out my ears.

A Long Lasting Affair
The New York Times lost its virginity to the Democrat Party a long time ago. Now it's just a wh@re of the liberals to be used and abused on a daily basis. The Demos don't even have to pay for favors--they are serviced every day by the old Grey Lady.

Supressing News

Now we understand why Liberals are not well informed about issues.

SFA1973

"lilly: Did you actually read the commentary or are you functionally illiterate?"

No, it's just lilly being lilly. Lilly shows up to disagree, not to discuss. It doesn't matter what the subject or how convincing the argument, lilly just takes the opposite point of view, no matter how foolish she sounds or ridiculous her argument. Then she leaves.

Was it Will Rogers who said:
"If you don't read the papers, you're uninformed. If you do, you're misinformed."?

We Are At The Press' Mercy
Why is this stuff important? Because OUR PARTY WILL NOT FIGHT. We have a cabinet full of tax cheats - silence from the party, while the Dems in such a situation would be pushing "one rule for them, one for us." WHY aren't the Republiwhigs?
Pelosi is not only a liar, but she attacks private jets for private citizens whilst jetting about in one paid for by us. More silence.
We have a global warming hoax that allows the gov't to regulate carbon. The major proponents of this are Algore - whose house consumes tons of energy & who likes to run about a lake in Tennessee with a powerful speedboat. Meanwhile, their myth is poised to destroy both our lifestyle & rural America. Our side signs on.
It's time for a party that will FIGHT. I don't care if it's called "Republican" or not.

NYT has been holed beneath the waterline
The Paper of Record is sinking fast. It can't sell enough Odumbo commemorative crap to keep its head above water, it has a columnist who has been caught plagiarizing a blogger (she must have learned that one from Little Joe Biden), and they had to borrow money from a Mexican billionaire to keep afloat. May its final end be swift in coming. I, for one, will not mourn its passing.

The bias in the media ...
is not only evident in the words used to tell the stories they report, it is even more evident in the stories they choose to NOT report.

Tod Kozeluh
Lexington, KY

The New York Times should

. . . change its'motto from "All the news that's fit to print" to "all the p00p that's fit to scoop"!

Pat is with the Rest of the Rats
Uh, Lilly from Illinois. . .

Pat Buchannan is the house no-boy, the paleo-conservative over at MSNBC. He's part of their stable, who they trot out to "usefully" attack most Republicans coming from the right.

He is very useful to the left when they need to point to someone to say something shockingly insensitive. Then they can imply that is the voice of all conservatives . . . such as "amen corner," or even attempting to undermine the Holocaust with comments like, "Diesel engines do not emit enough carbon monoxide to kill anybody."

Lies
Lying by omission is still lying and the NYT is expert at it. Too bad Americans have been dumbed down to the point where reading between the lines is so beyond them.

Pravda...by any other name
I'd have more respect for the New York Times if they'd just change their name to something like 'Far Left Today' or some other such nonsense because at least then they would be removing the hypocrisy and the pretense that they're anything near being "the Paper of Record".

Reminds me of the old Soviet Era joke:

At a White House Rose Garden party the Soviet Ambassador challenged the British Ambassador to a foot race and the Soviet Ambassador lost.

Later, Pravda reported it like this:

In the West there was a foot race held between Ambassadors at a reception held in the Rose Garden of the White House.

We are proud to announce that are very own Soviet Ambassador gloriously received the Silver Medal for coming in second place.

It is also reported that amongst other finishers in the race, the British Ambassador came in Second-to-Last.

Pravda is the Russian word for 'truth'.

I trust nothing about the MSM with the exception of FOX News, Conservative Talk radio and of course, certain sites on the Internet.

I still visit other news sites and listen to NPR to keep abrest of exactly what the Left is spinning on a daily basis, but I NEVER purchase a newspaper on general principle.

I'm glad the NYTimes and other Liberal rags are failing, as I am equaly happy that Conservatimve papers are doing fine.

If we're lucky some ignorant, misguided terrorists will set their sites on the 'Old Gray Lady's' downtown HQ next time they're perusing their 'to do' list.

One can dream.

lilly - selling ads vs. selling stuff
No one would say a thing if the NY Times were simply selling advertising space to businesses selling pro Obama mementos. That's what Fox did. It sold advertising time to a business that sold Obama head Chia Pets. Media outlets survive by selling advertising. It's business.

The problem is that it is the Times is making and selling Obama mementos. It's not some other business, it's the supposed "newspaper of record" which claims to be entirely impartial with regard to party affiliation. Find out where Fox News is selling Obama mementos or Bush mementos or whatever and I'll agree you had a point; a poorly worded point, but still a point. Until then, could I suggest a little continuing education into the difference between selling an ad for a product and selling the actual product itself?

If Maureen Dowd can be believed

If Maureen Dowd can be believed, I may have to apologize to Barack Obama.

I have often said that Barack Obama has absolutely NO business experience.

Maureen Dowd wrote this in an article in the NYT May 9, 2009.

"Once, during his campaign trip to Europe, Mr. Obama told me that he had briefly sold subscriptions to The New York Times when he was at Columbia University to help pay for school, but confessed he wasn’t very good at it." Maureen Dowd
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Barack Obama may have much more business experience than any one could have imagined - he sold newspaper NYT subscriptions door to door - I am impressed, at least he has worked at some point in his life.

Media Lies
I find myself relying more and more on Townhall and other such publications to keep informed. Not only the columnists, but the comments are very informative. The government controls a large percentage of the media, TV, newspapers, the internet, etc. To really know what is going on one must listen to the people. Too bad Obama, Pelosi, and the others in the socialist regime don't listen.

So basically, to get hired by todays
media in the news department, you don't need a journalism degree, you need a marketing degree.

Retired Geek
If Maureen Dowd said it,are you sure she didn't just rip it off from someone else?

Michelle Malkin is a national treasure.
Thank God that she was born in the USA. Great article as usual.

WHAT'S THE SOLUTION TO ACORN?
Click my name for the answer!

History Will Soon Show...
...that the media's political (and emotional!) investment in the RATparty, and particularly in The 0bammunist, are going to work out as well as the acquisition of the boston globe by the noo yawk times.

Jeff from WI

Anything from the NYT or Maureen Dowd is suspect at best!

Anyone surprised? I didn't think so
Is it any wonder how the One could get elected when the communists run the schools for decades and control most of what the then dumbed down citizens read and hear. We need a mass intervention to un-brainwash at least half of this country. Luckily, that half don't like guns and have no spines.

Just One Critique
It's possible the Times also made a profit on selling Bush merchandise before.

democrat party
Since Roosevelt that party has become more and more ethically and morally corrupt.Since the rino's took control of the republican party they are not to far behind.

So
All the News that is FIT to print...

actually means, whatever the editorial board deems as fitting into their frame.

We are children that are spoon fed what the Left wants us to hear/see and believe.

Now we not only have a Chief Liar in the White House, we have his Pravda arm in the media.

Sorry, not at all surprised at this, which just illustrates how far the integrity of journalists and our politicians have fallen (if they ever had any to begin with)

Disgusting.

KELLER IS KILLER
KILLER OF THE TIMES,IT'S TRASH.IT'S BEST USE IS TO SPREAD ON THE FLOOR TO PROTECT FROM DOGIE POOP.
PLEASE PUT THIS PAPER TO REST,THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR FLOORS!

Retired Geek
You got THAT right Amigo. The NY Obama Times, run by a leftist radical and who hires plagurists like Jayson Blair (an affirmative action hire like Obama is!) and Maureen Dowd.

Selling Out America
I have to wonder who, exactly, reads the Times. There is a usurper in the White House, and I think we all know that by now.

If the Times wants to make money they should be printing factual information. Until then, all of us needs to boycott this rag. Isn't it illegal to mislead the illiterate mass of socialists?

Retired Geek
"Barack Obama may have much more business experience than any one could have imagined - he sold newspaper NYT subscriptions door to door - I am impressed, at least he has worked at some point in his life."

the TEA PARTY. WE already have an assembly of folks ready to roll.

Ms. Malkin
Great column. The love afair the press has for the "one" is sick, and damaging our country. ACORN is a corupt, vote fraud machine. Yet the will recive millions of tax payers money this year, and run the 2010 census. Now someone please tell me how this corupt org. can get away with this. Will no one here about this, except the conservitives, as they read and whatch more fair, and balanced news.

Subversive NY Times
For years the Times has led the way to where we are now. Finally, they have the salesman for their socialist agenda.Barack Hussein Obama...Salesman Of The Year.

They have never tried to hide their bias against the right. When one of their reporters (no journalists there) is caught plagerizing or penning downright lies...there is no retribution of the paper, itself.

No retribution except viewership decline. They are going broke and with good reason. Many of Obama followers are illiterate and do not read the papers. Anti-Obama voters will NOT read them.

Mrs Paddy
Well done.

As Rush says it, you used your "talent, on loan from God," to create domething. Now if the leftists will let you enjoy the fruits of your labor, vice seizing it for the parasites, you'll be good to go.

"BUSH , let see every business he ran went bust.
Regan was a lousy business man..."

And your point? It took Edison 10000 failures before he invented the lightbulb.

It might take us a few years but we'll wipe out liberalism in the end. Your failed ideology and Marxist dogma cannot hold water for long.

BTW, exactly what businesses did Reagan have?

Rowly
Barack Hussein Obama...Salesman Of The Year.

Don't forget, the NRA nominated Comrade Maobama as the GUN Salesman of the Year in 2008. Probably 2009-2012 as well.

The fact that news is suppressed
speaks volumes regarding the lies and deciet the left must embrace to push their cause.I believe if a lefty has any intelligence at all, they must adit, at least to themselves, that they'll use evil means to promote their goals.

pathetic repug refforts
So that's the screen name you're using today? Can't wait to see what you will be calling yourself tomorrow. One question--Just what the h3ll is a "reffort"?

Now, as to your posts. I'm quite sure the CIA IS keeping information from Congress. With the bunch running Congress we have now anything the CIA told them would be the lead story on CNN and PMSNBC within an hour of it being disclosed. Chucky Schmucker would run over anyone getting between him and the nearest TV camera to reveal all.

Care to back up your ridiculous assertion that moderates are being driven to the Dumbocrook party by the "hundreds of thousands" with some actual FACTS (you do remember what those are, don't you?).

I thought that it was people like YOU who would get "extra hard" on gays.

A reminder to all:
"lilly" are not a "she," but rather a "they." They are a group of left-wing hacks sent here by Soros, Huffington, and/or the DNC to set up straw men and try to distract from the true point. Others are "Kimberly" and "will."

Ok...and...
Ok so now we "officially" know-at the very least that there was dishonesty on the part of Obama and the Democrats, and that the Left Stream Media was complicit and covered for them(this MIGHT have possibly "skewed" the election-emphasis on MIGHT at this point). No surprise here. Now the question is how far are true conservatives and true journalists going to dig to find out the truth of how deep the corruption is? With the likes of ACORN and homeless people using their benches as addresses to register and vote (same day registration) in Ohio. One begins to wonder just how much corruption was used to get the Great Oz into office and whether the results are legal or true (just a thought). I don't get paid the big bucks to do that kind of digging and I wonder if anyone will honestly try to do that kind of digging. In any case the big question is how much will be revealed if someone does continue to dig?

Won't see this on the front page
Speaking of guns...have y'all heard about HR 2159 ??? Something along the lines,if the government deems you a potential terrorist they will TAKE your guns? Haven't had time to read it yet,but figured while all you good "thinking people" were present,I'd pass it along. I've got to get some sleep!~God bless!~

Yawn
The New York Times long ago abrogated its vaunted position as the paper of record. Its twin reputations for honest reporting and reasoned editorials were jettisoned like so many discarded bongs by the Boomer generation who took over the paper and opted to use it as they had their college mimeograph machines.

The predictable result is that when the Times now buries an inconvenient story in the back pages, they no longer are able to actually suppress it. All they accomplish is add to the general ignorance of the self-involved people who share with them the citadel of mindless liberalism that is Manhattan.

The only remaining importance of the New York Times is to those New Yorkers who use it to reinforce their own biases and prejudices. It's nothing more than the local penny saver with a better set of fonts.

Rowly,I almost forgot!...
You once asked me what I thought about 2012,and I've added this to my notes. Kinda interesting..."And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books." That's Revelation 2012..."Judgement Day"! (Don't get me wrong-"No man knows",but we know what to watch for. Tribulation is a time of terrible oppression and turmoil, and Godless times like never before. If this isn't along the lines of "the abomination that causes desolation",I don't know what is!) I'm already Off-Topic too far for now. Maybe some other time we can all chime in with our thoughts on the subject!

New York Times
Fast becoming one of my favorite stems, the Beverly Hillbilly theme.

Come and listen to my story 'bout the New York Times
The propaganda news and it isn't worth a dime
They push B. Obama to the Presidential Seal
And now all his pork makes the taxpayers squeal!

OINK that is, Huge Debt! Bail-Out Schemes!

Well the first thing you know the Times is in the Tank
No ACORN scandal; But it's fine to break the Bank
You see when election day's endangered by a Scoop
B.O.'s more important than telling the Truth!

Lies Ignored, Election Fraud, ACORN's Crimes

Well now it's time to say goodbye! The Times we do Reject
And we'd sure like to thank those folks for who they got Elect
You're all invited back next week for news that's fit to Print
When Times becomes the PRAVDA for its U.S.A. Stint

Lies that is, Obamatrons, You all seek truth now, y'hear?

Why get in a tizzy over the NYTimes bias
Personally, I don't get overwrought over the liberal bias of the New York Times like Bill O'Reilly or Michelle Malkin or other conservative commentators do.

Why should I? All the Times is accomplishing by making itself a whore to the far-left of the Democratic Party is to be putting itself out of business, and fast.

So my attitude is, let the Times CONTINUE doing what it's doing. Pretty soon we won't even need to be having a discussion over the leftist bias of the New York Times - because it won't be around anymore. Then the only discussion about the New York Times will be what should be its most fitting epitaph.

foggytrucker
Why would the Republican Party attack back? There's more benefit to them by letting Obama and company hang themselves than to interfer. The Democratic Party goal and the Republican Party's goal is the same. Power accumulation. How Obama's actions acheives this for the Democrats is obvious. But his actions also acheive this for the Republican party because when they get back in power through Obama incompetence they will have more power than ever. Watch the coffers of the Republican Party with each new Obama mistake if you don't believe me. They will be "the savior" party and the stupid game of the ages will be played over and over again.

The only danger to either party is the conservative movement. Which wants less power for both parties. It's why Washingtonian Republicans were more afraid of the Tea Parties than the Democrats.

why get in a tizzy?
these supposed media watchdogs were given specific protection in the constitution, essentially giving them immunity. if they are not going to be a media watchdaog no matter WHO is in the white house, then their first amendment protections should be suspended.

what ever happened to intelluctual honesty......oh yeah, hope and change.

just words, just speeches,
roy

The hammer of dishonesty
and the survival of the irreplaceable rock called America.

The Constitution was written with a heart rendering emphasis on those qualities which men and women must seek and abide by in order to build a strong nation. Call it a belief in God, doing right by your neighbor, or just plain having the guts to try to lead an exemplary life.

We have lost 99.9% of that in the people who run our government now. It's about "me, me, me" and how much money I can hack off the land called America. In losing the critical factor of honesty and good will, we now have grown a crop of potatoes which will rot in the ground rather than maintain good ethics and the stench of their decomposition will cover this land of ours.

Make no mistake. The new nation of America still fought its enemies, but its leaders gave up their money rather than trying to get rich through shady methods. Those in power now have no fear for their souls and it is demonstrated day after day and through statistics ad nauseum.

I think that these preposterous animals need to deal with their own lack of conscience. America, however, had better learn the value of those who live their lives honoring honesty, dedication, and refusing to "look the other way" because it will profit them. Those who are in the government, from top to bottom, need to develop a love for this country that should surpass the square footage of their million dollar homes.

Last Paragraph was too funny!
Organized crime is running our government.

Shrinque
You would think they would go somewhere other than to the nearest welfare office to get their hacks. About all they are good for is typing from a script. Their posts have all the predictability of professional wrestling, with none of the credibility.

Elwood Blues, Philosopher
Several times at day, Prof. Blues' famous quote comes to mind as I read from the MSM.

"It wasn't a lie ... it was just bull$hit."

It came to mind again as the NYT's Bill Keller declared:

"We are agnostic as to where a story may lead; we do not go into a story with an agenda or a preconceived notion. We do not manipulate or hide facts to advance an agenda ... we aim to reflect them as clearly and fairly as we can."
