Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Deliberation in Washington is dead. We don't have legislators. We have lemmings. We don't have debates. We have high-speed hysteria sessions. After ramming through stimulus legislation that no one read and bailout bills that no one understood, Congress is now poised to stuff down taxpayers' throats a deficit-exploding $3.5 trillion budget that enshrines the largest tax increase in American history.

Welcome to the cap-and-trade crap sandwich.

The Democrats want to rig the game so you don't have time to figure out this latest act of collective thievery before it's perpetrated. They have been colluding on a plan to circumvent the Senate's 60-vote threshold and amendment process by attaching their massive green tax scheme to a special budget legislative maneuver ("budget reconciliation" in the parlance of the Washington sausage-makers). No less than Democratic Sen. Robert Byrd criticized this short-circuiting of debate as an "outrage that must be resisted" and "an undemocratic disservice to our people." But the eco-zealots on the Hill seem hell-bent on telling Americans to shut up and swallow.

On the Senate floor Tuesday, Republicans valiantly tried to stop the cap-and-trade bullet train -- only to be met with histrionic entreaties from the likes of Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dick Durbin shrieking about floods, dinosaurs and The Children. Boxer and Durbin indignantly accused GOP senators of "fear-mongering" over the costs of radical greenhouse gas emissions reductions. Then, without missing a beat, the Democrats returned to their wild predictions of the earth fizzling up and their grandchildren perishing like the prehistoric creatures who once roamed our doomed planet.

GOP Sens. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, Judd Gregg of New Hampshire and John Thune of South Dakota pushed back. President Obama, the Republicans noted, said last week that the cap-and-trade component of his budget is "nonnegotiable." This global warming reduction proposal amounts to an unprecedented national energy tax on every man, woman and child. Every household. Every business.

Far-reaching and regressive, the White House's own budget officials first pegged the price tag at $646 billion, but admitted to Senate staffers that the actual number would be "two to three times" that figure -- which means an estimated $1.3 trillion and $1.9 trillion between fiscal years 2012 and 2019 by the Obama number-crunchers' (or rather, number-cookers') own calculations.

There's no pretense about the impact these measures will have on taxpayers: "Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket," Obama admitted during the 2008 campaign. "That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers."

White House Office of Management and Budget Director Peter Orszag again acknowledged last week that "much of (the) costs of the plan will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices for energy and energy intensive goods." The GOP puts the cost at approximately $3,100 per family a year. Team Obama promises to offset these costs with some sort of tax credit for families, but by the budget team's own admission, families would still pay at least $500 per year in out-of-pocket increased energy costs above and beyond the credit. Retirees and college students wouldn't be eligible for the tax rebates.

This is not "fear-mongering." It's fact-mongering. And these facts deserve to be fully weighed and laid on the legislative table before Washington lawmakers take action again to drastically alter the economic landscape -- and stick us with the bill.

But once again, the big spenders in Washington can't be bothered with the deliberative process. They have learned nothing from the AIG bailout rush-and-take-back debacle. Or the porkulus waste debacle. Or the TARP-you-can't-believe-in debacle. The lemmings will only contemplate the consequences of their Chicken Little actions after they've sent the economy permanently over the cliff.

No recovery for America
Cap and Trade, and Al Gore laughing all the way to the BANK? The Bank of the World, that is.

The plans of our mortgagors are falling nicely into place. Rahm Emanuel and Obama are our Progressive Congress are doing the dirty work of their globalist elite masters - The Bilderberg Group - members of which own the Federal Reserve and hold the mortgage on America. They are not happy with just receiving interest on the loan in the form of taxpayers donations, they are calling for a balloon payment on the principal.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was reported to have said, "Whatever happens in government is intended." Whether that is his quote or not, this recession/depression is intended, and Obama is the puppet President chosen to preside over the demise of democracy in the USA.

KEYSTONE COPS BETTER THAN CONGRESS
THE FOLLY OF PUTTING GOVERNMENT IN CHARGE
The result is rarely, if ever, good.

Ruin
Anyone who says this will not ruin the economy and the country is either a fool or a liar.

Everyone --
Everyone with any analytical skills knows that the global and local puppet masters are in charge and have been for a couple of decades. Common sense is evasive in DC. We still have open borders and ports, refugees coming in for who knows what, sinking dollar, exporting of jobs, forclosures, (some were forcast), and the continuing of dumbing down of our educational institutions. The old addage is true, them with the gold makes the rules and the sheep say baaaaa. Many of these idiots even hope to get honey from a wasp's nest. Watch them get stung.
Michelle is right on.

The
sirens are blowing, and it's kool aid for the U.S. As you bask in Obama's approval ratings, what flavor would you like Ranger?

The 95%
I thought 95% of us were going to get a tax cut. What happened to that?

Reform
I think Michelle that I have the answer to the problem! Lets lobby congress to pass a law that requires everyone voting on a bill to read it ,in its entirety, while sitting in their seat,in the house or senate. Think of the beauty of a senator trying to sit in chamber and ACTUALLY reading a 600 page bill before a vote.....they would get NOTHING done...Just a thought... Snicker!
Mark

Running on near empty.

Folks, this is getting serious.

Moderates, well-meaning conservative women and Catholics who pushed Obama over the top are now having a MAJOR case of buyer's remorse.

They won't make the same mistake in 2012.

This kind of major historical statement, that we are not a racist country, only needs to be made once.

But America may not have until then.

If our citizens don't vote this Democratic Congress out of power in 2010... it could be all but over.

A mere additional two years of a far left president having this kind of ram-it-down-our-throats Congress, and the damage of a steady stream new entitlements, government controls and the already existing social obligations could effectively become permanent... or just about impossible to roll back. And add to that this absolutely staggering debt.

If we cannot wake up or shake up enough conservatives and moderates in the next few months, and convince them that the freedoms that they still think they have are systematically being taken away, the left may indeed have won... and America will have lost.

So I ask you, what are YOU doing on April 15th...?

Folks, freedom has NEVER been free. So go out and find a local tea party... and actually start to fight back.

What is your family worth???

Bravo - extremely well said!

Unsustainable insanity
What we are witnessing is institutional anarchy - being cheered on by the degenerate, witless, worthless, non productive Obama-bots. A neo-nihilism, that's been festering within the social fabric, is sweeping the land.

The O-bots think everything is going to break in their favor (i.e that all the change is going to be advantageous) - that's how stupid and indoctrinated they are. They aren't going to believe how bad things can get when they're given what they're told - and expect - to want. They think the productive and propertied are going to continue to be pillaged and enslaved for their benefit. It never happens that way - actions have unintended and adversely unexpected consequences.

Theirs is going to be the most significant living standard loss because they never prepared themselves or offered anything of value - all they have is their wants, demands and consumptions. And when there's little left to steal, what will the poor things have then besides a totalitarian fascist gov't that no longer needs them? And will those they insisted on robbing and destroying feel so charitable toward them then?

This I say to them: Go on - have your frenzied fun, your schadenfrund. Get those bankers, those salaried folks, those small business owners, etc. Indulge yourself and your mental illnesses.

The same sickness swept the plains of Russia and the Ukraine when Stalin unleashed his city hordes on the small farmers (the grasping, hoarding kulaks) during the collectivization. And in Germany when the Jews were scapegoated.

There's no evil the fascists won't employ. All you who think you can avoid the storm, think again - the middle class Germans and Russians thought they could as well. Even our foolish GOP politicians think they can lie low and weather the storm.

'The great events of history happen first as tragedy then as comedy'. Lenin

This is the comedy because we will have failed to learn the lesson.

grubby on point

Great points, I truly believe our Gov is willing to take a risk on what I would call a controlled window of anarchy or a self made national emergency in order to strip us of our freedoms and liberty.

Only in a situation such as this could they concoct a reason to disarm the law abiding citizens.

The beginning of the end...
America, we should all sit down and begin to write our eulogy. Obama and the Democrats have us circling the drain and it won't be long until we all fall down.

Let me just say a quick "Thank You" to all the idiots out there who actually voted for Obama; the ones who fell for all the left-wing media hype stating that he was practically the messiah for America. Thank you for ruining our country, Mr Obama (disrespect intended).

Politicians vs. Representatives
There used to be democrats who reprsented the peole of their state and the nation. Lately, a vote for a politician running as a democrat was a vote to give a power of attorney to Palosi. What great promises have been made to have members tight lipped and going in step with evry whim of Palosi? Greater power as heads of committees? Financial support for re-election? Passage of earmarks to benefit financial supporters back home?

Stupidest people in history....
Either we have the stupidest people in the history of the universe running our country into the ground or it is deliberate - or a combination of the two.
Clinton had Monica. Obama has all you leftist idiots and 95% of the media. When is America going to wake up to the forces of destruction that are being unleashed on our freedom?
Cap and Trade - He wants to tax the air!
This two year ACORN Senator is doing more damage to our country than Bill Ayers could have hoped for in his wildest dreams. Obama is an enemy of the U.S. The sooner you people with the Obama knee pads realize this the better. The rest of us have know it for a long time now.
