Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Maybe thrift isn't dead after all. The Year of the Bottomless Bailout has yielded a much needed correction in the lives of ordinary Americans. While fiscal restraint is AWOL in Washington, individual frugality has made a cultural comeback. Better late than never.

In large and small ways, we are cutting back. An online Zogby International survey this week reported that 70 percent of households are foregoing movies and restaurants. Forty percent of those polled said they were delaying the purchase of major items such as automobiles, home entertainment electronics or a computer; the same percent said they were giving up vacations. Notably, Reuters pointed out, "nearly 80 percent of younger adults, aged 18-29, said they have scaled back on going out, compared to 55 percent of people 65 years and older."

Pollster John Zogby called the results "depressing." I beg to differ. Out of necessity, a consumption-based society is learning to live within its means. For decades, government policies fueled that insatiable appetite -- and new government programs are desperately trying to preserve it. But the Obama administration's frantic efforts to encourage more brainless home buying, car buying and consumer borrowing aren't producing their desired results. Generational theft, it seems, has a silver lining.

The phenomenon is spreading beyond America's borders. London-based economic journalist Hamish McRae recently observed: "We may be on the cusp of a big socioeconomic shift. We have had half a century when the developed world has gradually moved away from regarding thrift as a virtue. It has moved at different speeds in different countries, faster in the U.S. and UK than in Germany or China. … We have created the institutional structure that has supported this shift: from credit cards to collateralized debt obligations (CDOs). The world has clearly reached a point where it can go no further down that road. … The pendulum will swing back. How far and how fast we cannot tell, but we can be sure that debt will be regarded differently a generation from now."

President Obama, celebrated by his liberal media admirers for a miraculous ability to groove with the common man, hasn't yet caught on to the new age of individual austerity. As always, he talks a good game of "personal responsibility" and "sacrifice." But while penny-pinching Americans head to Sonic Drive-Ins for $1 everyday value meals or stay at home for cheap cube-steak dinners (sales of the inexpensive meat are up 10 percent), the White House serves up high-grade Wagyu beef to congressional revelers. The luxury item was on the menu for the bipartisan stimulus dinner in January, and was also served at the governors' dinner hosted at the White House two weeks ago.

Team Obama's image experts, perhaps hung over from all the Camelot-re-creating Wednesday cocktail parties that are now a signature of the new administration, have fallen down on the job. The man who scolded Americans for wasting energy and turning their thermostats too high still hasn't lowered his own. "He's from Hawaii, OK?" senior adviser David Axelrod snickered to The New York Times in January. "He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there."

In flyover country, the mood could not be more different. Party time is over. I heard from a reader in northwest Arkansas, now upside down on her house with two college-age kids, who is preparing to tighten the family belt. President Obama, meet personal responsibility:

"We are ultimately responsible for the mess we are in. If my husband and I have to live in his pickup and get ready for work at the community gym, so be it. If we lose our jobs, we will move in with (my husband's) mother, and he will hunt and I will garden. We have never been on unemployment, welfare or other assistance. We are Americans. Our ancestors fought in the American Revolution, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and his brother fought in Vietnam. Our family has faced tougher foes than this economy and Barack Obama. We will do as true Americans do; we will not whine, we will persevere."

Waste not, want not: Outside of Washington, it's the renewed American way.

The worst
is you know they did not eat like this when they paid for it. I've long thought presidents should have to pay for all food except for foreign dignitaries visiting.

Marie Antionette Obama

Let them eat Wagyu!

DumbO has gone from noblesse oblige to noblesse absurd.

Not cube-steak,Michelle.
More like ground beef,if even that is affordable. Reoparations have already started. It is odd, though that the Democrat congress is in on it.

I heard on a news show tonight that Obama had turned over the health care bill to Nancy (pop-up) Pelosi and she will write it and notify him when it is done. Sure hope I stay healthy !!

THERE'S EVIDENCE THAT PEOPLE GET IT
HERE’S SOME ANTI-SOCIALISM HOPE FOR A CHANGE
In this case, profits are up in the down economy.

http://greensrealworld.blogspot.com/2009/03/wal-mart-haters -losing-argument.html

What exactly does the man
do besides give speeches and waste taxpayer money on expensive parties? So Pelosi is now writing the healthcare bill. She's really quite dim if you've ever watched her in an interview, but I guess he's too busy to care as are his WH staff. I mean the staff must attack any critics personally, and Dear Leader has to work out, throw parties, and give photo ops.

Rowly - PugCare

So, The Botox Queen is writing DumbO's healthcare bill. HA! And, he's ALL EARS!!!

Plastic surgery will probably be considered necessary medical treatment under universal healthcare in Pug's World. Pug is preparing to channel Palin... You bethca!!!

(Of course, there will be no wink served up with Pug's "you betcha" since it has long been an impossibility.)

Oops,typo
REPARATIONS !!

Pop-Up Pelosi
I believe it was on the Brett Baeir News show, that I heard it and it was discussed.

Well, she wrote the Pork Bill, with help from Soros & Co. They will,no doubt, write this one. May already have it done....just waitin' to spring it on us !

Rowly
I don't know if you had a chance to see my post to you a little while ago on Ann Coulter's thread: now that Michelle Malkin's latest one is up on the board, presumably pretty much all the action will be shifting now from Ann Coulter to her. So I'll re-post it here - and wish you a pleasant night!

I don't know if you saw the 9:31 pm diatribe of ed in FL (whom I presume is Mario, although MyOpine isn't so sure of that) against MyOpine, but you and I, along with Anne, Retired Geek, and Carlos made ed's A-list of "no life losers"; all the rest of the conservatives who post here on TownHall merely got ed's mention as "the rest of that trash you associate with". I don't know about you, but I felt quite FLATTERED to discover that I had evidently sufficiently distinguished myself to him to warrant mention by name (as did Anne - see her 10:40 pm post).

Although on reflection, I now feel unworthy of the honor. When I think of all the great conservatives who come to this board (GunnyG, Georgetwin, Lolo1, Summers, anderson659, sheepdog, ExRCSD Deputy, Primus54, just to name a few), I think to myself, "What MORE do they have to do that they haven't ALREADY done to warrant elevation by being mentioned by name to the conservative "cream of the crop" in ed's mind?"

I've read it before
It's all in Orwell's Animal Farm. The swine who were just one of us "animals" take over the farm. Living high on the hog is banned, until the burden of running the farm convinces them that they need extra care and perks. They move back into the house, get drunk, and finally begin walking on two legs while the sheep bleat, "two legs bad, four legs better."
Very predictable. Now, it's all happening in the Troughhouse... Pennsylvania Ave. D.C.

MM - More Like Tube Steak

And, we are ALL getting screwed.

Speaking of tube steaks and limp noodles, DumbO is gonna need to confiscate all of the Viagra on Earth in order to both stimulate the economy and complete the Obamagism.

Malkin
You have a very shallow, surface argument. It
is absolutely true that we have to rein in our
spending. But spending is the only way the
economy is going to get started again. If every person who wants or needs a new car
decides not to buy or to buy used, Detroit will
never rebound.

Since we shouldn't and many can't spend these
days, I guess that means the government has too. Let's hope we don't make these same
stupid mistakes a generation from now.

Ticks me off
It ticks me off when I drive on the highway and see a brand new federal car speeding by me, while I try to get as many miles out of my older car. I am going to lose it if I see schumer driving around in a new electric golf cart going to his steak dinner.

The soviet union had a similar set-up.

Hey Ranger!!
You crack me up dude! How is the motherland? I know you practice writing here, but how do you practice speaking english?

Anyway, I know the federal workers of the Republic do put a lot of unnecessary miles on the car, and use our money to pay for the gas, so I would agree with your facts. They get the cars new and then drive them like rentals.

Just for your education so you can report back to your superiors, "rentals" refer to rental automobiles that you may find at an airport. Some capitalist pig companies that rent vehicles include Avis, Budget,Enterprise, Hertz, etc. My quip also refers to how people misuse and mistreat rental vehicles. I hope this helps your report.

Rowly...

Hey Rowly,

I have great recipes for young groundhog. They are delicious.

Older ones are quite rank.

Squirrel and rabbit are tasty, and I hear that Rat is edible. Myself excluded.

And, if you get really hungey, some cultures also consume dog and cat.

I suspect we will see this in the near future.

Also, there is the 'FallBack' strategy of "Soylent Green".

Let Them Eat Wagyu-Beef!
I have no problem with the Obama's eating Wagyu beef and yes I'll take cube steak and no I haven't drunk the messiah kool-aid and don't plan to anytime soon.
However, I'd like to buy a couple new cars and that Cadillac CTS looks mighty fine, my problem with Detroit is and always will be the UNIONS.
I'm expecting in the next couple of weeks these bad boys are going to ask for a bailout too, then again they're sitting pretty.
The Automobile Industry giants are getting their bailout packages with, yes folks no, and I repeat NO UNION CONCESSIONS.
I guess the UAW leadership eats Wagyu beef too, in style at the Fountainbleau complete with call girls and call men. I must give them props for being equal opportunity employers.

"What exactly does the man do besides give speeches and waste taxpayer money on expensive parties?"

I wish that were all he did. The same goes for Reid, Pelosi, Waxman -- all our rulers, both parties. The problem is not just that they're expensive leeches. They also have to buy votes to remain in power. That necessity -- and egotism that crosses the border of insanity -- drive them to meddle in things they can't begin to understand, such as. . .well, everything.

Here's an idea -- the Really New New Deal, for lack of a better name. These idiots want to live like royalty. For reasons that I can't fathom, this country remains obsessed with Great Britain, a monarchy whose yoke our ancestors fought hard to cast off. Maybe times are bad enough for trying a variation on the British system and treating the present crop of rulers more or less as the Brits treat the House of Windsor and the House of Lords.

This change would entail giving shiny coronets and high-sounding titles to those who don't already have them; supplying them with caviar and jets for life; granting them annual allowances of perhaps $100 million each; and encouraging them to take long fact-finding trips to Bora Bora. In exchange, they would cede all real power to a new system of term-limited citizen legislators, executives, and judges who would do the actual work of governance. Any aristocrat who dared thereafter to intrude on the economy, education, energy, foreign policy, or national defense would be publicly decapitated, as in the old days.

Openly supporting a permanent, idle parasitic class is a desperate measure and an insult to the Founders. But it's better, and much less expensive, than the present system: quietly supporting a parasitic class that energetically destroys everything it touches.

hypocrites
Obama says "You'll have to just turn down the heat" when he keeps the WH warm and toasty like Hawaii (where he hasn't lived his whole adult life).

Obama says we shouldn't waste our money by going to places like Vegas, but then he has a party every week.

How many times has he traveled on Air Force one and the presidential helicopter for small unnecessary trips such as when he went 100miles in AF1 to a Democrat retreat, or when he went back and forth to Chicago for his Valentines dates and then traveled all the way to Denver just to sign the Stimulus package bill?

Obama says we need to cut back on luxuries while he eats $100 per pound steak.

Michelle O says in the campaign that the $600 Bush tax cuts weren't enough to do anything, but her hubby reduces the tax relief to $15/month.

Obama says his will be most transparent and fiscally responsible administration, with no lobbyists in cabinet. But look at what he gave us -- tax cheats and lobbyists in the cabinet and unprecedented spending.

Edgy, Cut and paste is not that difficult.

Use left button on mouse. Click at top, drag mouse to the end of what you want to copy, and go to edit, and click 'Copy'. Then go to where you want to display, and click 'Paste' from the same menu.

Since You are one of my faves, I will go look at your post.

You are still invited to my next barbecue. I make my own sauce, and that's why I get rave reviews.

Cutting back
I can see my household cutting back - especially on movies. We have a "dollar theatre" in town; I wouldn't spend a dollar to see Milk or any other PC garbage - though I would pay a buck to see Eastwood's underappreciated new flick.

I see Hollywood going under, with many of the elites having lost their portfolios with the rest of us. They'll blame Bush, of course -
but the current downtrend is all messiah: the Dow should be at 10,500-11,000 right now, instead of creeping down to below 6,000 (where it is heading quickly.)

Instead of seeing Clooney, even at the dollar flicks, I'll save my bucks for better ammo - to defend my family against those who think mine is theirs.

good morning, friends
How nice to read a virtually unsullied thread. Only had to scroll past one post. I have noticed that the trolls show up much later in the day than the conservative regulars. Very quickly, Malkin and Coulter get so jammed up my slow old computer makes trying to follow hopelessly annoying. So its nice to see it fast and clean.

Yeah! When you have to go on a diet, the food becomes all consuming!

It Sucks.

MY SOLUTION:
obama, pelosi, reid, and gang must eat well in order to have the strength to continue doing all the stupid things they are doing to us.
At one of obama's speeches to his welfare fan club, mrs. B.O. got hungry and ordered ......
Lobster, caviar, chocolate moouse, and champaign
you see she has to keep up her strength, after all she has to listen and put up with all his
@*%&!$$$$$ ranting. While we eat off the --$ menu at McDonald's. I understand one or two of the messiah's control laws or campaign payoff earmarks, that is of course going to correct the economy will go into effect on April the 1st
isn't that APRIL FOOL'S DAY (very appropriate)
My solution is that everyone should give up one days rations and send one dollar menu item to the " mosque mansion " (formally known as the "White House") in order to help them keep up their strength so they can pass and enforce the other 8,999 earmarks designed to make "their" life easier. So rally together American's and save our soon to be "Socialist State Masters" we will all be better for it !

AND HEAR I THOUGHT
'Annointed Ones' offered ALL to 'drink' from the same cup of whatever, be it steak, caviar, lobster, shrimp, wine, cake etc.
Guess not.
If the Crooks running our Country and those who voted for these Crooks, had lived the principles and values of the generations before them, then gee whiz, we wouldn't be in this 'crisis' in the first place.
Even if we go back to 'buying' only what we 'need' with the money we have and waiting and saving to 'buy' what we 'want' but don't 'need', here's betting the Crooks in government will create a government 'credit card account' for each of us, 'billing' us monthly, and forcing us to pay at least the 'exorbinate' interest charges on whatever amount they deem that WE OWE THEM.
This isn't Communism, it's a whole new Animal called 'CHANGISM'.

Ratsy
April 1st,when the cigarette taxes go up,I plan on quitting smoking (Again!),but this time will be to spite the devil,so to speak,so I think my efforts will have alot more strength behind them!(My little way of "Going Galt"!)

They let him play
Have you ever thought that the Puppet Masters allow him to play because they know it is all he can do? They do not want help running the country into the ground and then turning it into the USSR. As long as everyone is rhapsodizing over his buying his kids a swing set and a dog, they are not paying attention to the wolf approaching their own doors.

I am Going Galt, and for those who whine that I have a duty to work hard so they can party, look up the phrase Go Pound Sand.

And another thing
I have started blogging again. Comments welcome.

Chutzpah!
So at the same time Congress and our Dear Leader are upbraiding corporate execs for flying in corporate jets; at the same time the government is considering legislation to prohibit bonuses and limit executive salary; at the same time Ried and Pelosi want to forbid any kind of sales convention or customer appreciation event that Central Planning deems too lavish; Obama dines on Conspicuous Consumption. What about all of the artists that he brings in to entertain his kids, er, I mean, government leaders.

All pigs are equal but some pigs are more equal than others.

Obama a Marxist/Socialist

Anyone who thinks Barack Obama is NOT a Marxist/Socialist - trained by Communist activist Saul Alinsky - is either a fool or completely uninformed or both.

I began reading Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals because President-elect Obama said that being a Community Organizer was one of his credentials for being President.

"A revolutionary organizer must shake up the prevailing patterns of their lives–agitate, create disenchantment and discontent with the current values, to produce, if not a passion for change, at least a passive affirmative, non-challenging climate." Saul Alinsky

"...Create disenchantment and discontent..."

Are particularly revealing when one looks at the first few weeks of the Barack Obama administration.

Socialists, Marxists, Communists Agree

Socialists, Marxists, Communists all agree, that Barack Obama is not only their 'Ally', but that they have a 'Friend' in the White House.

"We now have not simply a friend, but a people's advocate in the White House."

Chairman, Communist Party USA

Tammy:
You've just received the "Billy Madison quote of the day".

You said, "Since we shouldn't and many can't spend these
days, I guess that means the government has too. Let's hope we don't make these same
stupid mistakes a generation from now."

So we shouldn't spend money on cars but the government has to spend our money on cars? WTF?
Who the hell do you think puts that money into the government coffers?

Cutting back
While my portfolio has been decimated by the downturn, so has my income. I am cutting a full 20% from my spending. I will take nice vacations, but fewer of them. And I will stay at more budget conscious hotels. Charitable giving is down 80%. Buying artwork? No way. I am giving up silly things like facials. I am spending 2,700 less on health costs by not putting money into my HSA plus changing my private health insurance. I eat all my meals at home, including lunch and breakfast. Perhaps one or two dinners out a week at the most.

63 percent of americans are brain dead !
No one on earth at this time can explain in a real way how in the HeL* 63 percent of Americans can honestly approve of this clown of a president. wait I have to remove the puke from my mouth. Okay Im back. hate saying he is our president. As this nation as lost 30 percent of its personal wealth 63 percent of what can only be brain dead , american idol watching special special people. Including something like 30 something percent of so called republicans. We can start by finding those in our party and sending them off to france now , today as in by tonight give over there assets and homes over to there " dear leader" and send them off tonight. we dont need those same 30 percent in our party as long as were stuck in the GOP . They can come back after conservatives have there own party.

George Bush owned Dow 8000.

Obama owns Dow 6500 (and declining).

Obama is setting us up for hyperinflation. Enjoy the deflation until then.

all latinos and blacks are communists
c'mon we all know its true so why argue about it?

It one of the reasons why the GOP is going to either moderate or die over the next few years.

Michael Steele our New RNC chair said last year at the black state of the union that he was a black man first and republican second-translation-I am godless communist.

His plan is to open the bg tent to blacks, latinos and other liberal leaning minorities.

Seriously, is that a good idea? Even Reagan democrats were liberal. Do you really want them back in the party?

The main point here is until conservative manage to find some common ground with people outside the conservative box their movement contrary to popular belief will not grow-you don't grow a party by being exclusionary but it seems that so few of you get that which is extremely good for liberals and progressives.

Big Spending Liberal Dems!!
Its the Liberal Democrites who are the big spenders, they talk getting the economy going and watching out for the little guy, while sneaking in the Tax issue as if he raising taxes on the Rich !!, you mean his Big Hollywood Friends are going to Pony up Money, Big Oil, all those who donated those record Millions he received for his Campaign, not on your life!!! So we know who will get stuck with the huge bill to pay, the same that the Liberal Democrites blow smoke saying they care about. What's really sad is the Liberal Democrats have in simple words that they can comprehend "THEY HAVE FU*KED UP OUR ECONOMY"
The People who created this Country built a moral structure around money. The Puritans legacy inhibited luxury and self indulgence.
Benjamin Franklin spread a practical gospel that emphasized hard work, temperance, and a Frugality. Millions of parents, preachers, news paper editors, and teachers expounded the message. The result was quite remarkable The United States has been an affluent nation since its founding. But the Country was, by large, not corrupted by wealth. For centuries, it remained industrious, ambitious, and frugal. Over the last 30+years, much of that has been shredded. The social norms and institutions that encourage frugality and spending what you earn has been under-minded. And the institutions that encourage debt and living for the moment have been strengthened.
Our Countries moral Guardians have forever been looking at the decadence from Hollywood and reality TV, but the most rampant decadence today is financial decadence, the trampling of decent norms about how to use and harness money. The gift and great seduction of the Liberal Democrats, the NYT.

Cutting back
Though I would never encourage anyone to spend outside their income level, I do think it's a good to spend some money. Living within your means is responsible and healthy, yet we don't want to cause the economy to go stagnant either. So I would encourage you: if you have money, spend it. If you feel greedy buying things for yourself, then buy them for someone else!

Buying from the small businessman is the way to stimulate the economy. Obama is right that spending helps. Of course, I would rather make the choice of WHO I spend my money on and how much instead of him, Pelosi, and Reid.

So, spend responsibly...but keep spending!

King Odumbo
This punk must think he is some medieval king, lviing the high life while the serfs starve. What's good enough for us certainly isn't good enough for him and his harpy wife.

So now Comrade Pelousy is going to write the health care bill? Dear God, how bad is this going to get?

Would you like some risotto?

Reply to frank
Hey Frank,

I have to disagree with you on the need to appeal to "minorities" or others that are typically outside of the conservative box. Even with an extremely unpopular president and the recession, Obama only won 53% of the vote. I do wonder who would have won the election had it been run again, but since we don't know the answer let's ignore that point for now.

Our BASIC message is that of an America where the average man is free of domination by the government. Along similar lines, we suggest that government "abstinence" as seen in Swtizerland is the superior course to follow.

I think we run into trouble when we try to compromise with that message. Only providing "a little more freedom than the democrats" is not appealing and makes us appear indecisive. By contrast the democrats look like the "new" "hip" crowd [though I fail to see what is "New and cool" about government domination... look at 99% of history].

We need to present our message just as the democrats do and be aggressive about the changes we want to implement. We also need to do a much better job of conveying to the American people of the reasoning behind our beliefs. In my personal life, I have "converted" a fair number of "democrats" simply by explaining our standpoints. Many democrats do not understand the issues and simply vote that way since the democrats seem "nicer".

Anyway, have a good day, and thanks for the uplifting column Michelle.

"until conservative manage to find some common ground with people outside the conservative box their movement contrary to popular belief will not grow"

It's the Republican party that needs to grow and be inclusive. Hopefully they will do it using conservative principles. Principles that work for and include everyone because they give power back to the individual, not the government. When conservative priniciples are explained correctly, most people realize that they too are conservative - believing in Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Most Americans, if not all, should save at least 50% of their income.

That should put the government out of business.

Petulant arrogance is seemingly the hallmark of the Democratic party, as evidenced by your own comments and Obama's speech on health care.
After such a divisive, accusatory, and emotionally charged speech about health care, I fail to see how anyone could believe that Obama actually possesses the knowledge to improve upon something as intricate as the US health care system. Apparently socialism is great, and everything else is all the drug and insurance companies' fault, and that's the end of it.

I mean seriously, didn't scapegoating certain sectors of society for political or economic problems go out of style in 1945???

N o Cube Steak Here,
Cube steak? There's none of that stuff around here; it costs $5/lb.

We eat pork butt and chicken leg quarters.

I'm on some forums where we discuss budgeting and I've found that the hardest thing for people to get their minds around is the concept of simply living without what you can't afford.

The idea that you might go for weeks without touching a piece of fresh fruit or eating a leaf of lettuce, that you might insist that your kids and husbands eat leftovers for lunch instead of buying lunchmeat, or that you might make do with last year's purse, jacket, and shoes just baffles people.

Frank, VA - Liberal On What?

Frank, you basically wrote that either the GOP becomes more Liberal or it will wither and die.

The GOP tried running a "Lib./Mod." last election cycle (McCain) and everyone knows how that went.

By Liberal, do you mean that Fiscal Conservatism should be abandoned and replaced with Liberalism, Progressivism, Socialism, Marxism, or Communism (the last 3 are taken from your title)? The fact is that the GOP will never be able to outspend Ls, Ps, Ss, Ms, or Cs. Never, but the GOP can, with sound fiscal conservatism, prevent this country from going bankrupt.

Please further explain your post.

BTW: I know many African-Americans and Hispanics and they are anything but Ss., Ms., or Cs. In fact, most are fiscally conservative like me. Some are socially conservative.

Let them eat cake
Barack and Michelle figuratively say "let them eat cake" while the great unwashed see their wealth disappearing. In just two months these folks have disgraced and degraded our country. And they are reveling in it.

Great, sound advice.

However the Obama administration will find a way to use this financial crisis to tax and confiscate your savings, investments, capital gains, and your 401k too, and if you resist you'll be arrested and jailed.

Gird your loins, it's going to be a long 4 years with the libs in charge.

minorities are communists Part 1
I lived in DC for 20 years and I never once met a black or hispanic that wasn't a liberal communist-not one. See the thing that so many so called conservatives just don't seem to get is that 99.99% of minorites see themselves as black, latin, etc first and are proud of their heritage. If asked they will tell you its more important for them to help advance their race through politics as opposed to advancing any one political ideology. For people of color race trumps everything period no matter what your core political beliefs are. This goes for 99.99 of minorities and is almost 100% for poor immigrants from the lower hemispshere.

Michael Steele is a perfect example of this. Yes he is a black republican and knows a few other black republicans but I submit to you they became republicans because the path for minority adavcement in the gOP is much easier and faster than the DNC. Right around the Reagan era a few blacks realized they could weasel their way to the top in an all white party trying to purge the image of being an all white party. Steele's election over Katon Dawson is just another sign of white guilt-Steele is not and has never been qualified for a position on the nattional stage. You people have done exactly what you accuse democrats of doing. His election is the culimination of a strategy started twenty years ago. think about how many white judges were more qualified than Clarence thomas? Thomas got the job because Bush one caved to special interests not because of Thomas's world reknown juris prudence? Marshall had worked on nearly every major civil rights case of the century. Can you name one thing thomas accomplished as a lawyer? just one?

I have not
been effected by the recession yet except for my 401k (which I won't need for 30 years), but I am not spending other than food and other necessities because I fear hyperinflation is coming.

Although, I've wondered if it isn't stupid to save money when that money could be worthless soon.

Obama gives Brown a set of classic movies. Let's hope he likes the Wizard of Oz
By Ian Drury 06th March 2009
Barack Obama, the leader of the world's richest country, gave the Prime Minister a box set of 25 classic American films - a gift about as exciting as a pair of socks.
Mr. Brown is not thought to be a film buff, and his reaction to the box set is unknown. But it didn't really compare to the thoughtful presents he had brought along with him.
Marking the special relationship: The Browns put a lot of thought into their gifts for the Obama’s’ - but the gesture did not seem to be reciprocated
The Prime Minister gave Mr. Obama an ornamental pen holder made from the timbers of the Victorian anti-slave ship HMS Gannet.

Mrs. Brown has been praised for her well-chosen gifts for the Obama children - but Mrs. Obama's gift to the Brown children appeared less thoughtful

minority commies
The larger point is the GOP needs to grow its ranks and no matter ho many times you say jutt stating your core values is not going to do it mainly because it never has! Even reagan raised taxes but he knew that coalitions wins elections.

A coalition of white social conservatives is not going to win very often if ever because the playing field has changed.

don't think so? Ask Katon Dawson. He just got affirmative actioned out of a job!!!!

Truly Obama could not have planned this better-certainly the gOP does not want to moderate and that is good for democrats because they can scoop up moderates and independents that are purged from the GOP. If somebody can prove to me that social conservative litmus tests and closing the big tent will grow the GOP then lets lear it! sure obama won 53% of the vote but he won after two years of the GOP making it s case and in the end failing to close the deal. McCain's moderation was not the porblem because his numbers reflect that even republicans who hated him still voted for him-the GOP stuck together and still lost.

Everybody knows wat conservative principles are-everybody also know that the GOP does not follow those same principles so if the GOP want to win anothet relection ever it needs to restablish credibility with the rest of America because right now it has none.

You Are Darn Wrong, a

"Hmmmmmmm...trying to incentivize consumption during a financial catastrophe in order to encourage those who are able is a bad idea?"

Frankly, it doesn't matter what the Goobermint tries to do to incentivize consumption because, unlike Washington, most consumers must have confidence in order to spend. 4 months and 1 day after his election, DumbO has yet to put forth a plan that has settled the forward-looking nerves of the markets or calmed the fear of Americans. Paying for past purchases (homes, cars, school loans, etc.) does not incentivize consumption amongst those, who have failed to be bailed out in one or another boondoggle.

One of the biggest tragedies that has happened in the last 4 decades is that both people and government have lived beyond their means. The is no such thing as endless financing because the bill eventually becomes due.

Not what he seems
Each day that Barack Obama is president, I become more and more convinced that he is nothing more than a front man for George Soros and his pals. Obama is little more than an actor. While he looks great in front of the camera and can give an inspiring speech (with a teleprompter), there is very little inside of him. Soros believed, rightly so, that Obama was the perfect fit to run for president, then help him pass a radical, socialist agenda. Originally, it was going to be Hilary. But, she comes across as too negative. Obama comes across as a likeable "everyman".
Should Soros succeed our country will resemble the former Soviet Union. The government will control everything and most of us will live at the benevolence of the politically connected such as Soros.

AudiR10
That's another question -- did they pay for the swingset? I'm thinking no since it was installed on WH grounds. Wonder how much that cost?

my take
As a single parent who gets no child support I used to take my daughter to our favorite restaurant once a week where two beers, two meals, her drink & desert along with the tip is just under $20. Now we go once a month. I also found a great pizza crust recipe online so we don't even buy the frozen ones because I can make one for $4.

I love the previous article Michelle wrote it struck a cord here I started "going Galt" about two years ago when the libs took over congress.

What we as Conservatives need to understand is that this is the direct result of our own actions. They could have never run the table like this without help, our elected reps. caved in to bipartisan-shite. But we didn't stand behind them either when they shut down the government and I mean we because you are only as srong as the weakest members.

We need to learn to be proud of our plans and that it is OK to laugh at their malaze.

conservatives who didn't vote:
I TOLD YOU SO.

MM is not pointing out anything that 58 million of us didn't already know. The present residents of the WhiteHouse are dragging it, and the whole country, into a broken, trashy, tacky, existence. The obamas have seriously lowered the level of decorum in the WhiteHouse while simultaneously "partaying" way beyond the scope and imaginations of the Average Americans.

I'd like to personally thank all my fellow conservatives who self-righteously abstained from the Vote last November. They lamented the "McLame" nominee and stayed home on 11/04!

You will remember that I BEGGED for conservatives to vote for McCain--if for no other reason than to vote against obama.

I guess our chickens is comin' home to roost, huh?

Obama insults American Traditional Beef
Am flying to D.C. tomorrow to help block Hoof & Mouth infected Argentina (Who's defaulted on bond loans to the tune of billions!) beef from import to U.S.
TNC, Al Gore, Bruce Babbitt, Wayne Pacelle, Ingrid Newkirk, Jon Marvel, promoters of NAIS, stallers of implementation of Country of Origin Labeling (Consumer has the right to know where their beef is coming from - but packers don't want them to know.)- and now it appears President Obama, are all working hard to shut down American Traditional Beef growers - i.e.beef that is born and raised in the U.S.A.
President Obama's import of exotic beef, when American's grow and provide the best beef in the world, is yet another direct attack on Domestic (American) Resource Production!!!

Silver Lining? Maybe
You're correct, Michelle. There seems to exist a silver lining to our catastrophic economic landscape. However, I rediscovered the concept of living within my means about 5 years ago.

After my husband died I accrued a credit card debt of $60,000 and change. I'm embarrassed to admit that much of the cash register clanging was the result of frivolous purchases. Once I realized the enormity of my problem I set out to change it immediately. No more manicures; forget the pedicures. Vacations became a thing of the past. Estee Lauder's stock dropped several points, and my earring collection remained stable for 5 years. I bought no clothes and limited my entertainment to only the most frugal activities. After 5 years I accomplished my goal: ZERO BALANCE ON MY CREDIT CARDS. Then I set out to pay off my mortgage before retirement. I did that, too. Now I'm retired: I had a decent portfolio and pension and was ready to resume a normal life. Not!

I am beside myself with this administration. Obama has turned out to be no more than a polished liar in a $2,000 suit -- or, in my estimation, an empty suit. As Burt Prelutsky said this morning "he turned out to be worse than I thought." It is my opinion that he is a racist, and an angry one at that. If that were all, maybe we could get around it.....somehow. But he's worse than that: By now it's common knowledge that he's a narcissist at core. But what he has done to this country goes beyond what even a narcissist would or could do.

He has psychologically cripped an entire country. What kind of a sadistic monster would do something like that?

Thank you, Michelle, for being our voice. I am deeply grateful.

To all you conservatives
who either voted for this punk or didn't vote at all just to "teach the Republican Party a lesson"--THANKS A LOT!!! I sure hope you're enjoying this three-ring circus, because the rest of us conservatives certainly aren't.

Message to Michele
Commentators who attempt to smear our rulers have yet to fully grasp the changes in America. These intellectual reactionaries show their obsolescence and need to get into another line of work.

Are they not aware of the transitional nature of Him? Did they not see the millions of beggars, paupers, serfs and slaves, flocking to Him, kneeling at his feet, weeping at his every word?

This is not the land of the brave, it is the land of the slave. Individualism is out, collectivism is in.

We are no longer capable of existing on our own. We admit we are inadequate without Him and our legislators to feed and clothe us, make us well when we are sick, pay off our debts when we are overextended. We are like little children. Although we have adult bodies, we are still toddlers. As such we are a menace to he world. We have to be properly handled.

Our rulers have difficult jobs. It is not easy to lead a nation of 300 million special needs dependents. Our rulers are rightfully due, therefore, some special indulgences.

Limousines, a fleet of private jets, fine food and wine at exotic locales is only proper for those chosen to care for us.

This is the customary arrangement for feudalism. We forgo our opportunities for our own excellence in return for meager, but equal outcomes in our lives. We have no right to expect anything else.

Those that can lead are due all that they can obtain from us. Let's not make them mad at us. Let's not criticize them or they will withhold our food and beer.

Please, Michelle, don't antagonize them. They'll take it out on us!

Oh, yeah......how's that swamp mouse doing anyhow?.....I sure hope it's o.k.

army wife and publius-idiots
first of all republcians and conservatives voted for McCain in droves. Perhaps you might show us the polling data you're using to propogate this myth that the GOP stayed at home. They didn't. Even people who hated Mccain turned out to vote for him-there was no decline in the GOP vote.

Stop whining its unbecoming.

OBAMA's big idea
Trickle up poverty.

JD's Handsome Son:
Once again you are dead on.

People elected Obama in exchange for womb to the tomb entitlements.

Have we reached the point of no return where government can not divest itself from every aspect of our lives?

Obama's cancerous cells of taxation and entitlement spending might not be able to be removed from our economy before the patient dies.

Did GOP really go out to vote?
Yes they did. but alot of the moderate idiot republicans voted for the idiot we have in office now. I am more upset at them for starting to complain about Obama's policy because they should have known better.

Please tell me how it makes sense to spend so much money, when we have no money to spend. the man is a moron. a fraud and con artist. Hey, I'm not whining I am telling it like i see it.

Hope and change my a___

Take back the country
WE MUST SHED THE CURRENT FACE OF THE GOP. IT IS TIME TO START A NEW PARTY!!!!!!!!
The corruption of ideas and morals in the Republican Party must be shed like a caterpillar morphs into a butterfly. We need a new face to show the American people without all the negatives that have been built up around those politicians who did nothing to confront the advancing socialist threat. WE need a party that will call a socialist a socialist and a moron a moron. That party must be speaking with 1 strong voice unlike the GOP that supports politicians of many diverse goals and call themselves Republicans.

Please give this some thought. If you help start a new movement one that concentrates on those ideas that are the core of the Republican party and built with people that have a career background in selfless sacrifice ( Law enforcement, Military, FBI, CIA, Firemen, DOD. )… dedicated professionals and patriots whose character cannot be questioned and who understand sacrifice for the greater good, you will always have a candidate the people will believe in. We cannot continue having candidates who are senile or morons or all is lost.

You have the voice needed to help spread the word “America” first, last and always. Every "citizen" no matter what their origin should be the only concern of our party.

Please give this some thought. The GOP is dead. We need your help to get this started.

A Question For Liberals

I understand your positions relative to enormous spending by the government to "help folks out" and I get that you only want to tax the "dreaded 'rich'". Of course, I disagree with you on both, but I have a question:

Let's assume, for argument's sake, that only the top 5% should pay taxes. I would like to know, if you believe that the Goobermint should just pay for everything for the other 95%? And, when I say everything, I mean everything from gum & movie tickets to mortgages, car payments, socialized medicine, tuition through doctorate school, etc.

Is this what you want? Well, the top 5% can't pay for it today, tomorrow or ever. They don't have enough money and they might just crossover to the entitlement-enlightenment side.
