Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The Wal-Mart stampede in Long Island, N.Y., last month exposed the ugliest side of the Christmas season. But not all Americans live by "The Blitz Line Starts Here" credo. Not all of us rush to store shelves in search of the greatest gifts. Sometimes, they can be discovered in the hearts and souls of total strangers. If only you look.

What an extraordinary treasure America was given in Dong Yun Yoon. The naturalized American from Korea lost his entire family in a San Diego military jet crash three weeks ago. The tragedy claimed the lives of his infant daughter, toddler daughter, wife and mother-in-law. It wrecked his house and upended his world.

But Mr. Yoon refused to blame the pilot or bash the military. At a press conference near the site of the crash, the grieving father and husband urged his fellow citizens to pray for the pilot: "He is one of our treasures for the country ... I don't blame him. I don't have any hard feelings. I know he did everything he could."

In an age of shoe-tossing temper tantrums, anti-troop bigotry and litigation gone wild, Mr. Yoon demonstrated both amazing grace and unbending patriotism in the face of unfathomable pain. His heart-wrenching plea for forgiveness resounded across the country -- and around the world. Five hundred people from both the civilian and military communities came to lift Mr. Yoon up at his family's memorial service. The assistant pastor of his church reported that they had received more than 1,000 phone calls and e-mail messages offering condolences and financial support.

Mr. Yoon's suffering and sacrifice are powerful reminders of the preciousness of life -- reminders that money can't buy.

Haleigh Poutre is another of those priceless gifts. She's the miracle child who was nearly beaten to death by her barbaric stepfather three years ago. Hooked to a ventilator in a comatose state, she was then nearly condemned to death by Massachusetts medical experts and the state's criminally negligent child welfare bureaucracy, which hastily declared her to be in a hopeless vegetative state and wanted to pull the plug on her life.

God had a different plan. The government's campaign to kill her was stopped after the then 11-year-old girl started breathing on her own and responding to commands. This little girl with an iron will to live has been nursed back to health by an amazing team of caring therapists. Her plight brought end-of-life issues again to the fore -- issues that so many on both the left and right would prefer to ignore.

Haleigh the "vegetable" can now write her name, brush her own hair and feed herself. Haleigh's suffering and sacrifice carry powerful reminders against blind trust in the deadly duo of Big Nanny and Big Medicine -- reminders that money can't buy.

The life of Master Sgt. Anthony Davis gives us one more invaluable gift this year. On Thanksgiving weekend, his family learned that he had been killed while delivering humanitarian supplies in Biaj, Iraq. He had served in the army for 26 years. He loved his job and believed in his mission. The Baltimore native was married, and had five children and one grandchild. His wife and daughter also served in the military.

Sergeant Davis was killed while distributing water and food in Biaj, about 250 miles north of Baghdad. He died, his family said, doing what he loved. "He was Army in every sense of the word," Jorge Tardi, Sergeant Davis' brother-in-law, told the Baltimore Sun. "He believed in our effort over there in Iraq. It wasn't just a job. It wasn't just a benefit. It wasn't just hardship pay. He was a patriot."

Sergeant Davis was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, but what his family will remember most is commitment to them. He was a peacemaker, they said, and a mentor to all. "'A positive impact on somebody's life can change their life for the better,' That's a quote from him," his son Jerel said at his funeral. He "instilled in his children the importance of getting to know God."

Sergeant Davis's service sacrifice serves as a powerful reminder never to take for granted the cherished gifts of family, faith and freedom -- reminders that money can't buy.

You didn't even read the article did you ?

If you did read it and then posted what you did, I would love to meet you face to face, and 'talk' about your errors.

Beautiful column. God bless America!
I would only "add" one thing to this beautiful message of inspiration through 3 wonderful examples of the American spirit. And that is, the gift of The Truth.

Two thousand years ago the Truth was made flesh and mankind forsook Him. Michelle Malkin writes of simple, beautiful truths and she will be hated for it by most democrats and certainly ALL lefties at TH. They hate her, and they hate America.

Thank you Michelle Malkin for drawing the little cockroaches out into the light. They show us all who the real hate filled biggots are, and they don't even know it's them who harbor hate in their hearts for anything good or virtuous. Or maybe they do, and the hate is really reserved for themselves. Quite sad actually.

I've read you for years and know you will never give up, and for THAT gift I am grateful. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all. Even you of the hardened hearts. May you search for and know the peace of a grateful heart in Christ.

Now, now Rat
Your resentment is what it aims for. Don't give it the satisfaction. Let IT be the deranged one.

I wouldn't mind knowing how to petition TH to have the hateful little dung flingers expunged from the "community", once and for all time, though. Until then, let it live by hate. Because we all know what follows THAT lifestyle.

2spot,

I am sorry, I was just outraged after reading Michell's fine tribute to true American's.

Normally I just spoof the fools and have some fun with it. Sadly, some folks are offended by my spoofs. C'est la vie.

Trust me. I know enough about computers to know that TH COULD block these feces flingers, 'IF' they WANTED to.

Therefore, I can only conclude that TH makes money off every comment, in some way.

So, please, TH, let me help you make a few bucks...

Just a wish...
instead of peace keeping and humanitarian aid, I wish the military would destroy our enemies and come home. (Nato forces in Europe?)

wobbie translations
hul donkyhoo y wobbie...

OBTW, for the uninitiated, 'hul donkyhoo' and 'wobbie', are one and the same. They often show up together, and complement each other. (And post as each other.)

For your edification, I have translated a few of wobbie's more common phrases.

~~~
'Jet Pilot' = "Mommie, can I have some quarters for Wal Mart?"
Not 'Naval' Captain, he meant 'Navel' Captain.
'My Net Friend' = That nice Hul Donkyhoo who keeps sticking up for me
"...29" = in 'screen name', he's bragging about his IQ of 29, having been beaten out by every quadruped except 'Three Toed Sloth'.
'My Team (oops let THAT out)' = All the people Soros hired to post under 'wobbie'
'later/latter' = Off to Wiki, to copy-paste several articles of 'smart-stuff'
'Night rounds' = i heard a mouse squeek and so, upstairs to mommy
'New Girl Friend' = mommy found inflatable doll at garage sale (slightly used)
"Wonder Woman" = mommy found inflatable doll at garage sale (slightly used)
'Went Flying' = my cousin Morion told me to sniff 'this' and you can fly
'Smart People' = Hul Donkyhoo, Daft, Butte, Peachbus, Athie Provo, Kinky L, Mydoggy,
'Code Pink' = My favorite people, and pink my favorite color (see my panties)
'Best Game' = When Hul and I pretend to be each other. LMAO
'Off for lunch' = Check navel for leftovers. I'm Captain of my navel.
'Bedtime' = Off to Wiki, to copy-paste several articles of 'smart-stuff'
' 4F ' = Don't know what this means, better check on it in Wiki
'Will' = hey, he thinks like I do, (wonder if he has a 'steady' friend?)
'Man are you dumb' = Gee, i wonder what he meant?
'Off Line' = Off to Wiki, to copy-paste several articles of 'smart-stuff'
'On Line' = Doing my best to irritate everyone.
'Fly Speak' = That IS my perfume, even if I have to 'dump' it on myself.
Hi wobbie, still there?
Ah, yes,
wobbie sits with 'baited' breath ( Yes, I know the proper term is 'Bated' breath, as 'held in Abeyance', but wobbie doesn't know this... )
waiting for the TH 'techies' to go home for the day, so he can log onto TH and post inanities, absurdities and insanities.
wobbie actually 'baits' his breath with Smegma. A Natural concotion many Frenchmen use as mouthwash.
I am fairly certain that wobbie's alter-ego, hul donkyhoo uses the same concotion.
Rumor has it, that's the reason hul donkyhoo got cashiered from the 'Air Farce'
( hul donkhoo's branch of the Air Force { as in REMF } ).
The next few hours may prove this to a certainty.
~~~

How To Make 'wobbie and hul' Go Away :

IGNORE THEM COMPLETELY !

~~~
How To Keep 'wobbie and hul' Here Forever :
RESPOND TO ANY SINGLE POST FROM EITHER !
~~~

Obviously, the majority of conservative posters want to keep 'wobbie', 'hul', 'morion', 'sofa-girl', 't.r.', et alia, as their very own 'Dart Boards'.

They are easy targets, after all, and it is SO much fun to watch them fume and spout.

I strongly suspect that 'hul' and his alter-ego 'wobbie' are both clinically insane, as well as all the other trolls.
Any response or attention, especially Negative Attention, just keeps them coming back.

The Rat

after awhile, hul will show up...
Please do not forget, about the many wobbie aliases include hul donyhoo, as well as morion, bacterium, koolmoose, et alia, ad infinitum...

THIS JUST IN :

EMT's in Scranton, PA, have just received a 911 call from a person named 'hul' or 'wobbie' .

Several replays of the 911 tape, have not cleared up the confusion of the names here, which seems to be based in the extreme inebriation of the caller.

"Full Recording :

(hic), (hic)... LMAO, (hic), helllpp mee, im hal an i jist fall offf my (hic), (hic) barstoolll an broke ny typin han (hic)... LMAO. "

~~~
It is further reported that the EMT's were laughing so hard, they dropped the stretcher with 'hul' or 'wobbie' on it, back down the basement stairs, breaking 'hul' or 'wobbie's' non-typing hand, which was still greasy.
It has been decided at the highest levels of Government (The Governor of PA)
that no charges will be allowed to be filed against the "Emergency Response Team." A phone call to the Esteemed Governor of PA, received the following reply.
"No, No, He!! No! LMAO!"
Authorities are still trying to find any 'Next Of Kin' to no avail.
No further expanations were given.
Commandant,
Scranton, PA, Emergency Response Team
Scranton, PA
After wobbie leaves...
Hey TH
Did this help your bottom line?
Why don't you purge wobbie and hul, permanently?
Funny thing, wobbie went away ??
Does this mean hul won't show up either?
Neither of them miss any chance to foul up a Coulter or a Malkin column, because they hate women and love macho guys.
Oh, I have lots more stuff, if wobbie and hul want to play...
You were never a Ranger and if you were meet me at the next Jungle man competition and let's "talk" about internet pollution.
BTW, been there every year since '82, an attitude such as you show would get you a nice little talk with any number of folks there.
~~~

We, on TH, have a long history of wobbie and his inventor, hul donkyhoo.

hul was an Air Force REMF that made light Colonel by sucking on a One Star, drinking buddy.

Hul never made Colonel, so he invented wobbie, and gave him the rank of naval Captain. It is obvious to all, wobbie couldn't make it as a deck hand in the Navy.

Also, from reliable sources who knew this excrement, he was outed with issues of 'Don'T Ask Don't Tell'. Hmm.

You are correct. wobbie has never been in any service. He is a coward. He is a commie. I am in my late sixties, and I know I could thrash the terd without any special training. Just yell BOO and hit him in the nose. Job done.

OK, I might get a few scratches, but what the he//. I get worse than that when i mow the side ditches.

Check the Michelle Malkin Column for more info.

Great Story MM!
Leave it to our "Filipino Fox" to post a heart-warming reminder of God's grace, during the season of His Son's birth! BTW Wobbie, Michelle is more a natural-born citizen than your Socialist Messiah, that ACORN spoofed into the Oval Office!
BTW Ratus, is Hul Donkeyhoo any relation to Halitosis Drunken-Hue (& Cry)??? (besides both being nomme de guerres of Wobby de Wanger)
I know, I know, folks, DON'T FEED THE TROLLS, but it's SO fun and SO easy with these lib-tard morons!!! (but, I repeat myself)
Here's wishing you all a safe & wonderful Christmas!!! (even you Wobbie/Halitosis, et al)

Wow.....
My Scroll wheel is wearing out.

Thanks for another good column, Michelle.

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

God Bless all true Patriots, like yourself and those you mentioned in your column.

Wonderful gifts money can't buy
include people like you Michelle. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to inform and educate. I am thankful for people like you and those you highlighted in this article.
I wish everyone a very merry and blessed Christmas.

KOOLMOUSE
Hang on tight, idiot, your in for a real ride with your noboma.

And the peacemakers shall be called the
Children of God. Michelle you certainly gave some inspirational stories that everybody should take to heart.

Wonderful article Michelle!
If these stories are not proof God exists, I don't know what is.

Thank you for your continued excellent articles and have a Merry Christmas!

Dave
My sentiments exactly.

I wonder
if anyone posting here actually read the column, and can make intelligent comments about IT.

Michele
Great column. There are many more stories out there and we should try and find the good, always. Merry Christmas!

koolmuse:
Is it humanly possible for you to comment on hte column at hand, or must you tyr to threadjack every one due to your BDS?

Koolmuse:
I have never seen ou exhibit any kind of decency much less Christmas Spirit any time. You are a hater, and a major one at that.

Yes kool muse there is.
They are nothing but hate filled rants. Why should I sink to that level?

Foolmuse
And what, exactly, do your idiot posts have to do with the subject of the article? The article was about three wonderful people and you have to chime in with your bile against Bush? You can spew your hatred against Bush all you want to and you can bow at the feet of your Messiah if that is what you want to do but don't for a moment think anyone here gives a big rat's furry posterior region about what you have to say.

mindlessmuse spits:
My mother taught me that having the Christmas spirit one day a year...didn't make it with God.

Neither does being a total tool.Jesus loves the sinner more and he must adore you. You are so full of vile and hate I NEVER thought I would EVER say this.
You are worse than wobbie.

I am off to spend Christmas with my daughter.
Merry Christmas to all, even you non-believers.
Peace on earth, goodwill towards all men. Even you tools.

LMFAO hic! (not used with seatbuffers or permission, because I will NEVER ask for it!)

Palin/Jindal in 2012!

Peso George, Pardon Ramos and Compean before you leave office!!!

And yet
koolmuse you claim to be a Christian. Now that's laughable.

Back to the topic at hand.
Monday night we had shootings on one of the major highways here in the DFW area. One of the victims was a semi driver heading out to DFW Airport to catch a flight home. He was mortally wounded yet in his last moments he thought enough of others to pull his rig over, and get oout of traffic before he died.

Nope, he never insults people - BS!!!

Obviously Wobbie's right, he never insults people, in his feeble mind anyhow.

To the rest of the world he's insulted Ms. Malkin twice to this point.

TO TOWNHALL:

Very sad this Christmas Eve Day to see TOWNHALL poisoned by a few people.

TOWNHALL has restricted "Ranger 29" to some degree. This is a good thing. I would urge TOWNHAll to apply the same restrictions to "koolmuse" who is an affront to this site.

On a much brighter note, I'd like to thank Jonathan Garthwaite and all those working at TOWNHALL. You provide America with a much needed service. Merry Christmas.

Finally, to so many wonderful friends here at TOWNHALL. Won't attempt to use names as I'm sure I'd leave someone out. God Bless You.

Merry Christmas!

God's Gifts
Michelle Malkin, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I enjoyed your column. There are some "good" people still in our world, just like those you are writhing about in this article. May God richly bless these folks and help them through this Holiday Season, and I'm sure he will.
Love you Ray

koolmuse
Whatever you are, you are laughable.

koolmuse:
If you are an example of the liberal "human race," I'll pass.

koolmuse:
Where does that leave Soros, the Kennedys, the
Kerrys, the Hollyweird types,, Buffet, and the Obamas?

Thanks
Thank you Michelle for these stories.It is encouraging to me to see individuals rise to the top and in true humility take no credit for themselves in what has taken place in them by them or through them. The credit goes to our creator God.
May those that hope for less bitterness and hate this coming year know that the change has to start within our own hearts. Have we examined our own heart lately? Not quite as easy as judging others.

Koolmoose:
You do disservice to the liberals/democrats or whatever you are by acting like such a spoiled brat.

You need to have your arse seriously kicked because you were probably allowed to get away with so much disrespect by your parents.

Koolmuse
I won't give you the dignity of actually reading your drivel. I just mark them as offensive, which they are. Then I go on to those with intelligent postings, even if they're liberal.

...
..."herished gifts of family, faith and freedom -- reminders that money can't buy. "

But, money can buy a Presidency...and has.

Actually
Wobbie the half wit did get it half right this time. Michelle is in fact a babe, or fox if you will, as well as being brilliant. I thought there were a lot of comments when I first got here, then I discovered that it was only idiot posts by wobbie and foolmuse. By the way boys I never read your posts (wobbie got by me today) you are , however, aggravating the arthritis in my flag as offensive finger. As soon as I see you name, I flag it, it saves time.

IF ANYONE ON TOWN HALL IS WATCHING:
PLEASE BLOCK KOOLMUSE FROM POSTING.

I FIND HIS/HER "WRITING" EXTREMELY DISGUSTING.

THANK YOU.

Michelle, Merry Christmas!

Thanks, for the gift of this column; it was a heartfelt joy to unwrap.

God bless and keep you and yours, this Christmas and throughout the coming year.

Please, be cool Koolmuse.

I must ask so I can get a perspective on your ranting and raving...Are you a recluse, unloved, black homosexual?

You keep raving about bigots and haters and racists ad nauseum and sterotyping all TH posters and Republicans as such.

ExRCSD Deputy (BTW Thanks) has already made you look foolish but you keep swilling away.

You Koolmuse really need professional help as you are obviously mentally unstable. I'm sure I and many of my fellow posters here at TH will pray that you get it.

Merry Christmas and remember Jesus Loves even you Koolmuse.

Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Sarge Davis

History will record that the American Soldier and those American Soldiers who have fallen, rank in the greatest humans who have ever lived on this planet.

The American Soldier have freed millions in bondage and defended the freedom of America with willingness of the ultimate sacrifice.

The Fallen American Soldier is someone who walked the hero's path. Someone who walked into the heart of darkness for Duty, Honor and Country.

The American Soldier waits for the day that they have lived for and trained for their entire life - to defend until death, their families and America, its citizens and freedom.

The American soldier is the fiercest Warrior ever in history, because their mission is the defense of family, neighbors, America and freedom.

The families of the American Soldier, while their faces beamed with pride, their hearts were filled with anxiety and tears as they watched their American Soldier leave to defend them and this Great Country.

Families and neighbors look with horror as the military vehicle stops in front of the home of the American Soldier, to inform them of the ultimate sacrifice of their hero.

No honor can be too great; every tribute is too small for the Fallen American Soldier and their families.

God Bless the American Soldier and their families!

It's a shame
that there are individuals who for one day cannot find anything good in this article. However, shame is on these individuals who cannot for one day allow themselves to see the good and the hope in this article that makes me proud of my fellow man. But regardless of that, I also wish them a Happy Holiday season, and hope that it is possible for them to look past left or right and just see what is good about our country and its people.

Merry Christmas Michelle, and thank you for this article.

I Salute the American Warrior

The American Warrior is someone who frightens many people because those people live in denial of reality, the American Warrior reminds those people that violence exists in the world.

The American Warrior has the capacity for violence towards those who threaten America and the American way of life.

The American Warrior is a constant reminder that there are terrorists in the land and those that wish to destroy America are already here on American soil.

The American Warrior on September 11, 2001, rushed towards the danger instead of fleeing from it, intent on defending and helping those American citizens in danger. Many American Warriors gave their lives that day and many more were willing to give the ultimate sacrifice for America and its citizens.

Most Americans are glad that they were not on the planes that crashed into the WTC and the Pentagon - the American Warrior wished they had been on those planes because they might have made a difference.

American Warriors were on United Airlines Flight 93 and defended unto death America and its citizens with the cry "lets roll".

The American Warrior was at her Church when she heard gunfire. Drawing her weapon she entered a hallway filled with evil. She determined that her fellow worshipers would not die that day. With icy bravery she stood her ground with a single weapon and destroyed evil that had multiple weapons and a 1000 rounds of ammunition.

The American Warrior waits for the day that they have lived for and trained for their entire life - to defend until death, America and its citizens.

This Christmas, I salute the American Warrior, both living and dead. Men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, Police Forces, Fire Departments and ordinary civilians who rush forward to our defense instead of running from danger.

Mortality
Any blogger who rants and raves about Michelle's honoring of those who survive horrendous situations and those who serve this country and die doing so need to take a long hard look at themselves.

Obviously, all of us will face death. How will you feel about what you have done with your life when that time comes? Will you have helped others or turned the other way? Have you lived a life of honesty? What contribution will you leave behind...progeny who care deeply about their children and America or progeny that focuses on alcohol, drugs and getting money any way they can?

Ask yourself that question now because every day is a gift of life. You don't know how many such days you have left.

Nice column, Michelle

Merry Christmas to all.

An American Hero

Lt. Michael Murphy was 29, a Navy SEAL, leading a four-man team in the mountains of Afghanistan's Kunar province on June 28, 2005. When they were surrounded and engaged by more than 30 Taliban terrorists, every man was gravely wounded during a two-hour-long gunfight. Yet "in the face of almost certain death," Murphy fought his way to an exposed position to radio for help and then fought on until he was mortally wounded

To all the liberal trolls
That means you, foolmuse, Hal/Robbie, and the rest:

I refuse to allow any of you to ruin my good mood this CHRISTMAS season. I'm spending the holidays at my daughter's home with her, my grandchildren and my son. My son-in-law is in Iraq fighting for you so I promised him I would not let them spend Christmas alone. We have had a wonderful time so far and we just finished making Christmas cookies. There is nothing any of you can say or do that will ruin this time I'm spending with them. I will not allow you to have that kind of power. I'm going to enjoy some more time with them so I will leave you with a wish for a very Merry Chrstmas, and may you come to know the Child that was born in Bethlehem on a personal level as your Savior.

American Boy Scout Heroes

Boy Scouts were transformed into heroes when a deadly tornado blew apart their remote camp in western Iowa on Wednesday night.

In what Iowa Gov. Chet Culver called "a blow right to the gut" Thursday morning, the storm killed four Boy Scouts and sent dozens of others to hospitals.

"These young men ... literally saved lives during this time period when emergency management could not get to them," Culver said. They "were the real heroes."

"They immediately started helping each other in this time of need [and] set up their own mini-triage unit."

Rob Logsdon, a 15-year-old staff member at the camp, said that although he was injured, he rescued some of his fellow Boy Scouts trapped underneath a collapsed chimney at one of the camp's four bunkhouses. Watch Logsdon coolly tell his story »

"I was standing up trying to pull bricks off the kids that were sitting there, and then I couldn't do any more because my hip and leg were hurting so badly," Logsdon said on CNN's "American Morning."

He dislocated his hip, sprained his ankle and was gashed in his knee when the tornado struck the shelter.

American Hero Dogs part 1

NEW YORK CITY (USA) — Four months ago, Port Authority Police Officer David Lim was in the basement below the World Trade Center when the first explosion hit Tower One. Officer Lim put his 4-year-old Yellow Lab partner "Sirius" into his crate and raced upstairs to investigate.

His last words to Sirius were: "You stay there. I'll be back for you."

Neither David nor anyone in the world could have expected both towers to collapse on September 11, 2001, claiming thousands of human lives and one dog's. Sirius became the one canine casualty of the WTC terrorist attack.

That morning, Officer Lim raced up 43 flights of stairs to assist and direct the fleeing individuals when the evacuation began. He was helping to carry a woman down near the fourth or fifth floor when the tower collapsed and buried them. "It was like an avalanche," he describes. "We were just waiting there to die."

Officer Lim was himself rescued that afternoon just after 3pm. Nobody kept count on how many people he had been able to help escape, but unfortunately one individual very dear to him didn't make it out.

In addition, doctors would not allow Officer Lim to search at "the pile" because of the emotional toll it could have taken on him. But he kept tabs on the rescue effort, checking in periodically to ask whether they had made it to the kennel area. Finally last week, the call came: they had found Sirius. Investigators said that the dog had died instantly when the kennel collapsed.

On Thursday, under full honors, complete with a prayer and a salute, the body of Sirius was removed from the wreckage.

"There was a flag over his bag and I carried him out with another officer, John Martin," says Officer Lim. "Everyone saluted. All the machinery was stopped—the same thing that is done for human police officers and firefighters. I thought it was very nice."

American Hero Dogs part 2

NEW YORK CITY, NY (USA)
Sep. 11, 2006

It was the largest deployment of search dogs in U.S. history and possibly the single greatest example of inter-species cooperation in the history of human disasters.

More than 350 dogs lent their snouts to 9/11 search-and-rescue (SAR) efforts at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Approximately 100 were deployed by FEMA, and the remaining 250 included SAR dogs from around the country, NY police dogs, security dogs and volunteers who rushed to the scene as soon as it happened.

No accurate count has been made of all the furry heroes who were there, and we have even less of an idea of their current whereabouts.

American Police Hero

Ken Hammond, the off-duty police officer from Ogden, Utah, who's being hailed for quickly confronting the 18-year-old gunman who killed five people in a Salt Lake City mall, is sharing his story.

The Salt Lake Tribune writes that Hammond "had a choice: Retreat to safety with his pregnant wife or confront a killer. He chose to act." The newspaper says he had a .45-caliber handgun, and kept the killer pinned down until he was joined by other officers -- first a Salt Lake cop and then members of the city's SWAT team.

"I went out of romantic-date mode to 'I need to protect' mode," Hammond, 33, said Tuesday. He told his wife, Sarita, to have the restaurant owners "lock-down" their business.

She called Salt Lake police to tell them her husband was an off-duty officer, not a second gunman, and to describe what he was wearing so that they would not mistake him for another killer.

CNN has video of Hammond's press conference. So does KUTV in Salt Lake, which adds that Hammond said "if I have the ability to protect people and save lives, I have an obligation. I had to do something."

Teen Hero Saves Mother, Baby From Burning House

POSTED: 5:24 pm PST March 7, 2008

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- A 14-year-old girl ran into a burning building and woke up a mother, giving her time to get herself and her baby to safety, Thursday afternoon in Forest Grove.

About 4 p.m. Thursday, Forest Grove High School student Kayla Varde was in her dad's car. They were driving past a house when she noticed flames shooting out of the roof.

Before her dad could even come to a complete stop, she was out the door and rushing to help.

American Female Hero

Jeanne Assam appeared before the news media for the first time Monday and said she "did not think for a minute to run away" when a gunman entered the New Life Church in Colorado Springs and started shooting.

There was applause as Assam spoke to reporters and TV cameras saying, "God guided me and protected me."

"There was chaos," Assam said, worshipers ran away, "I will never forget the gunshots. They were so loud."

"I saw him coming through the doors" and took cover, Assam said. "I came out of cover and identified myself and engaged him and took him down."

"God was with me," Assam said. "I didn't think for a minute to run away."

Boyd said Assam's actions saved the lives of 50 to 100 people.

Assam said she was ending three days of fasting on Sunday when fate put her in the path of the gunman.

"I was praying to God that he direct me" in what to do in life, Assam said. "God made me strong."

The Wal*Mart stampede is only an early example of what life in the U.S. will be like if Obama is seated as POTUS.
Check the security cam photos of the stampede. Over 90% of blacks voted for Obama, thus there is an over 90% chance the stampeders are Obama voters. Likewise the braying jackasses outside the OJ sentencing courtroom and the most obvious Obama voters in the Howard Stern, Zogby/Ziegler interviews, low scorers on the American Civics Literacy Test and subjects of Dr. Lyle Rossiter's book.
With such ignorant, uncivilized people voting we are in for a long spell of anarchy and chaos in the U.S. The anarchy and chaos is evident in Obama's dissing the Constitution by refusing to share publicly his real birth certificate or other documentation showing he is a natural born U.S. citizen.
Until he does so and comes clean on other matters such as his campaign financing we are a 3rd world country under rule of an imposter.

You obviously don't know there are more millionaires in both houses of Congress who are Dems than Repubs. Then again, maybe you do, and like every other liberal standard, it only goes one way.

BTW I can't believe anyone who thinks and speaks like you actually picks up a Bible, much less quotes it.

I'll say
The media have really done an exceptional job hiding Haleigh's story...I've never heard of it!

Nice of them to publish the heck out of the Florida woman and fail to mention this dramatic miracle. How typical.

I want them to pay for their malfeasance. They have squandered their opportunity and public trust: most need to lose their jobs and have their employers go broke.

Merry Christmas to you and to all other conservatives who care about this country and the hard times we are facing in the next four years. If we stand together we can weather everything the Kenyan Marxist and his mesmerized, sycophantic followers can throw at us. I'm looking forward to being on the front lines with you, Gunny. Watch the animal channel

What a mess, first we get The7Sticks, who demonstrates that the stories we hear about Jews being nasty to others, is actually true in his case. Aren't his comments deserving of our comments that he would call anti-semitic? And he wonders why Jews like him are so hated, and should be.

Then even worst is Rat --- Rat --- who is even worse, and of course Geeky Poo is here with his cut and paste, one after another.

Then we have koolmuse, and a couple of others, who continue to post messages that are rarely read, and never of any value.

Some one quoted the bible, about “…the eye of a needle.” did you know that is the name of one of the gates to Jerusalem. That means he must kneel to enter that low gate, and to enter Heaven.

Now I insist that all TH posters to make a New Years Resolution to go and watch the Animal Channel and learn the rules for posting on TH.

If you watch the dog training, you will learn how to treat those posters you don’t like. If you absolutely ignore them, they will go away. Never, Never cancel them. Never, Never even acknowledge them, good or bad.

Don’t you see that when you even admit you know they have posted, you have given them another star in their crown.

Do not censor, ever.

Do not acknowledge, ever.

Make sure what you post is on the subject of the day, or at least make sure it is an idea whose time has come.

And don’t dare tell me that I ever violate those rules.

More on God's gifts.

Humility is one of them but it seems that liberals are WITHOUT SHAME or HUMILITY.

BOSTON — A former state senator in Massachusetts who resigned after he was charged with harassing women is trying to double his pension.

James Marzilli Jr. cites a law that allows elected officials under age 55 with more than 20 years of service to boost their pensions if they fail to win re-election.

The 50-year-old Democrat wants a pension of $27,000 a year. He requested the increase from the state Board of Retirement, but the board postponed the matter until Marzilli's criminal case is resolved.

Marzilli pleaded not guilty to multiple charges and was treated at a psychiatric hospital for bipolar disorder. He goes to trial in April.

Classic liberalism at work.

Merry Christmas to all and have the most Happiest of New Year's possible! Given Obambi, Queen Nancy, Joe bin Biden, Barney Frankfurter, Princess Carowhine and the rest of the "stellar" government ruling over us, this Season is going to look like a joyful season.

Bush will be heading to his ranch and the Naked Emperor Paulson will be vacationing at a nudist camp, so the coal in our stockings next year will be the result of the Dims and Libtards. Even hedgefund managers will have a hard time being grateful for those make-work "Shovel Ready" jobs.

Relevance, Robert and koolmuse?
So that is the Robert Ranger I have so often seen referenced in the past. His postings are never available when I am able to get online (as a full time college student who works a full time job, my free time is limited). I always kind of figured that you guys were exaggerating the level and degree of Mr. Ranger’s ridiculous antics. I apologize. In my defense I would point out that it is hard to believe that any one person could be that ignorant.
I also note that koolmuse (what does that mean?) seems not to have read the column. If you gentlemen are not going to raise issues the column was concerned with, why even log on? I have my own problems with President Bush (his support and encouragement of the bailouts and his refusal to properly seal the borders to name two) but I do not recall Ms. Malkin even mentioning the Pres. Basically the column was recounting uplifting stories of good people. Why demean that?

Merry Christmas Everyone
O holy night, the stars are brightly shining;
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Led by the light of faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here came the wise men from Orient land.
The King of kings lay thus in lowly manger,
In all our trials born to be our friend!

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy Name!

Capitalism is to blame? I suppose all of those hungry people in Socialist countries that, earlier this year, stampeded due to food shortages have capitalism to blame.

I would think that the WalMart episode demonstrates more about consumerism and the lack of compassionate than capitalism. No Capitalists forced a depraved mob to break down a door, kill a security guard, and cause a woman to go into premature labor.

koolmuse @6:30pm
If you consider Ms. Malkin's columns "silly" I do not understand why you even come to the site. After having checked them out, I do not bother to continue to read the Dailykos or Huffington Post as I consider them to be “silly” and filled with lies.

What interests do I support and what kind of people are people like me? FWI I voted for Jill Long Thompson (a Democrat) for Governor here in Indiana. I also voted for Evan Bayh (another Democrat) for the Senate. I have always voted split ticket. I leave party loyalty to the myrmidon who cannot think for themselves.

Hundreds of thousands dead in 5 years (presumably in Iraq since that fits the timeline you use)? The use of this lie is one more indicator of your dishonesty and partisanship. Finally, where exactly do you get the notion that Bush has pardoned Cheney? I Googled Cheney and pardon and got not one hit that showed Bush was pardoning him.

Once again these subjects are not relevant to the column. You are obviously a trouble maker who wishes only to create arguments. You demonstrate your own irrelevance and lack of intellect with each posting.

I do not waste the precious little free time I have with such nonsense. Good bye and Merry Christmas to you sir.

What Jesus meant by His "eye of a needle" illustration is really very simple. He meant that it is impossible for a rich man to buy his way into Heaven. No man can earn, work or buy his way to Heaven. That would make Jesus' death and resurrection meaningless. Our entry into the Kingdom is the result of God's gift of grace by sending Jesus to take our punishment on himself. When He died and rose again he forever took away the power that death holds over us. All that we must do is accept His sacrifice and accept Him as our Lord and Savior. That is the easiest thing we can do to gain eternal life, but it is also the hardest because we must acknowledge that we are sinners and are no better than anyone else.

I explained the meaning and purpose of that "little statement" to you, if you don't want to accept the explanation there is nothing I can do.

You say you don't want our prayers. I don't want to see anyone lost for all eternity, and neither does God. Whether you want to be or not you will be included in my prayers. You can curse me and spew hate at me all you want, I will continue to pray for you. I cannot save you, only God can do that, but maybe through my prayers God can work on your heart and help you to see just how desperately you need Him.

Merry Christmas to all!
and to all a good night!

Thanks, Michelle, for a wonderful column that allows us (most of us, anyhow) to focus on all that is good in our world. And we sure need that ;-) God Bless You and Yours!

PUHLEASE, Killed Moose!
"Liberals have humanity and empathy... conservatives self-interest and materialism..."
*******************

As to your Lib/Con argument, I don't think that all of those at WalMart were raving Republicans. In fact, judging from those interviewed, I would guess that many likely voted for Obama.

So, Liberals have cornered the market on "humanity and empathy"?
-I believe that charity begins first at home with my children, friends and family.
-I donate tens of thousands of dollars each and every year, which is more than can be said about Joe Biden.
-I employ tens of people and give them generous salaries and bonuses.
-I have a black Nanny (she doesn't identify herself as African-American) for my children, who I consider part of our family. She is able to attend college because I have the humanity and empathy to pay her a net $350/wk for 20 hours of work and pay her even if she isn't needed, has exams or goes on vacation.
-I pay for the funerals of children, who have died and their parents are too impoverished to pay for the services.
-On a pro bono basis, I legally represent indigents and have been a CASA for abused and neglected children for 20 years.
-I buy food for families, not video games or other materialistic goods.
-I donate to programs to help families pay for heating fuel.

So, excuse me if I think that your theory is one based upon a fallacy. The difference between the two of us is, apparently, that you, as a Liberal, can be more humane and empathetic by giving to Gov., than this Conservative, who believes my money directly helps more people than giving it to the Government.

You may hold the "truth" of my "self-interest and materialism" to be self-evident in your own mind, but the fact is that this Conservative, Capitalist would give you all the aid that you could need. Unfortunately, it seems you would rather have the Government do what I would happily give instead.

And Michele....,
to add to your Christmas List...,please do not forget Major Andrew Olmstead. Anyone reading this should go to his blog, Andrew Olmstead. com.

Miracles do happen. Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. God Bless us EVERYONE!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

All,
Apologies to All, except the trolls.

If my rant offended any of you.

Yes, I DID READ THE ARTICLE.

Yes, I get emotional when I read about brave and kind people, and I had tears in my eyes when I finished Michelle's fine tribute.

When I saw wobbie's inane, insane, and hateful post, I just saw RED !

~~~
For those of you who seldom or never logon before 8:00 AM EST, you never see the crud this slimy poster puts up on TH.
wobbie posts 100 to 200 posts every night on various TH columns,
and ALWAYS tries to be first on Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, and David Limbaugh columns.
Thus, every weekday, non-holiday morning the TH crew go in and purge every wobbie post, as well as two others of the same ilk; 'sofie' of many names, and the former 'treasonous republican' of many names, now coded as 'tr'.
Every post of wobbie is filled with hateful racist slime.
It is obvious from his posts, that wobbie hates women, Christians and anyone else who is not like wobbie.
~~~

I do not live in a vacuum, and based on the fact that "You Kindly Day Posters" never see what the "Rat" is spoofing, some of you may wonder at MY mental status.

Spoof, you say? Why spoof? I refuse to argue with people who I believe are clinically insane.
I will not respond to them. A casual bystander may not be able to tell the difference, and anyway, if EVERYONE, AND I MEAN EVERYONE, would ALWAYS ignore them, they would go away.

Being pragmatic, I know this won't happen, so I can rationalize. At least while they are here, they are not out shoplifting, selling 'crack cocaine', or vandalizing cars with Christian or Conservative bumper stickers.

"if EVERYONE, AND I MEAN EVERYONE, would ALWAYS ignore them, they would go away."

My only problem with your posts is this statement of wishful thinking. They are so narcissistic that just seeing their posts published is enough to keep them here. Besides, they are sure to capture some new visitors who would like to get in their licks at them.

Watch out for the catas and catatonics!

Merry Christmas

Hey, Denise! - need a gardener or cook?
Handyman?

Rich D. says,
"Besides, they are sure to capture some new visitors who would like to get in their licks at them."

To what end? I would venture to say that it is only to ones own "dumbification" to engage these hate filled little people. Also, Rat is totally right in his claim that ignoring them will work. The problem is, the egos on both sides of the argument are being vigorously stroked. (The clinical term for that is something this site won't allow me to type.)

to wit: Saying that letting them die out w/o us providing much needed life support, via endless, mindless back and forths (filled w/ "Oh yeah!?"s and, "Well so's yer mudder!"s) is "wishful thinking" is tantamount to saying "Awe, I'm just one friggin guy, my vote don't count for nuttin'."

Come on R.D., make our votes count. Wadda ya say?

KILLED MOOSE- ONCE AGAIN & VERY SLOWLY

~~~
Dear jim of CA,
From seeing several posts of your posts here during the last few months, and given the times of the postings, I conclude you have no idea of the continuous vile spewed by the poster 'Ranger29'.
He is pemanently banned because of his vile, racist and insulting posts.
Every non-holiday, weekday, starting at 8:00 AM EST, TH workers start removing his hundreds of posts of filth.
I collected just a few, from 12-24 & 12-25, and made two posts on Coulter and Graber columns. Read them at your own risk.
~~~

The Retired Geek is an honored TH poster, retired from a job similar to your own.
Except he attained a much higher level of education through his own efforts.

He is perhaps our BEST researcher, and very informative.

I for one would choose the Geek, every day, over you.

No offense intended. He is just more interesting.

For myself, I never engage that vile slime, I just spoof them. A few people have commented that sometimes they are funny.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays, jim

I'm a EE with my own software company, but I spent a Thanksgiving week in Mississippi rewiring houses flooded by Katrina, another week in Mexico wiring and putting up drywall at a visiting instructor's home at an orphanage, and a stint in Costa Rich laying cement for an kitchen/sunday school building extension on a one-room church. I repaired a pipe organ in Malawi, Africa, did several stints doing plumbing repairs and tub surround installation for poor senior citizens in my city. I also layed and refinished hardwood floors, and rebuilt a fireplace, laying new bricks and marble hearth and side panels, and refinished solid cherry, oak, and walnut mantles, shingled a roof, and hung doors, installed stair railings, and painted houses. I have a friend now almost completely blind from diabetes (totally in one eye, 3% vision in the other) whose roof just sprung a major leak, so a buddy of mine are going over to see what we can do.

Don't get me wrong. Unfortunately, even the "hired help" down here, like electricians, contractors and the like can't always be counted on to show up because they suffer from the same Louisiana affilictions.

One gets used to it after a while. And, if I can't find someone to pay to do a job, then I will just do it myself.

Now, as for "other" jobs, a man can be counted on like the Postal Service. They will seek to perform, and hopefully deliver, through rain, sleet and snow.

Rich, it is a mahogany Steinway baby grand with 3 pedals. I'm sure that your wife can play it better than me. I don't like the censorship. If everyone, and mean everyone, ignored a dumb-head, he would give up after a while, and those posts can be ignored in the meantime.

Well I usually try to cut and paste my own ideas, not the miles of stuff from Geeks research.

Believe me, I don’t care that the two of you post, I have the ability to read, scan, or ignore.

I at least try to post my own ideas, and I do find it odd that it takes calling someone “names” before you ever get an answer. I have posted my idea for Health Care, an idea that several doctors and pharmacist have liked, but not yet a comment from any one of TH.

If it is not of interest to anyone, that’s find, but a lot of posts on TH are not worth the effort of either the writer or the reader. And of course that includes my replies, many times.

jim,

Computers have gotten much more powerful, smaller and faster.

Hard drives have gone from 100k storage to many Gigabytes.

Networking has improved, though some debate the wisdom of this.

Biggest improvements seem to be in software and memory.

Dual and multiple processors have become common.

Breakthroughs? I don't know of any.

~~~
By the way, you old phart, you might be interested that the first computer I worked with, for three years, was a completely electromechanical monster that solved Trigonometry problems. It was built in 1946, and used cams that were cut to calculate square roots, squares etc. I used it in the early 60s.
It accepted data from other, outside servo motors that indicated horizontal and vertical changes in degrees and rates of motion, as well as input from a gyroscope that gave a measure of exact vertical.
It would take several pages to tell the complexities of the problems it solved.
Suffice it to say, for its age, it was impressive.
The backlash and inexactitude caused by mechanical tolerances made it necessary, to calculate a solution for 30 seconds before it was reliable.
I would guess that today's CPUs could do this in microseconds, or less.
No. I did not design CPUs. I used them to design manufacturing systems.
jim,
In more than one post of my recent rant, I spelled out exactly what posters should do if they want to rid themselves of the scourge.
Curiously, it is exactly what you are saying, only in more explicit terms.
Had you read my posts, you would know this.
~~~

The vast majority of posters on this site, do follow the rules of TH as to appropriate postings. Excellent. Then, I, and many others, do what you do, "read, scan, or ignore".

However, at least three have been permanently banned by TH for vile, racist or threatening attacks on others.

Ranger29 is one of these three. He not only has posted vile, racist and threatening remarks, he does it almost every night. You don't get to see most of these, because TH removes them every non-holiday weekday, starting at 8:00 AM EST.

NOW, you have a fine opportunity to view the vile and racist remarks.

TH will probably not be back at their posts until Monday morning, and you should have three more days to monitor the posts by Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, Mary Graber, David Limbaugh, Burt Prelutsky, et alia.

~~~
I will flag posts that have insulting vile comment or insulting racist comment, and I make NO APOLOGIES.
I will not, and have never flagged anyone for making stupid, childish, inane, ignorant, politically different, moronically absurd, or just plain irritating posts.
Ranger29 is removed by TH, not by anyone flagging him/her.
~~~

Since I do not flag them, I feel free to spoof a few from time to time. I do this rarely, usually seldom more than one a week.

Since you don't see their posts, I should tell you, I use their words and slightly exaggerate them for the most part.

I do hope you don't mind. Please feel to skip them.

God's most simple gifts
Disasters happen all the time. If disasters are the only time we think of God, then we in a lot of trouble. We must be thankful for the gifts we have available to us without the disasters. From the time we wake up to the time we go to bed the world is full of gifts from God. We overlook these gifts every day without notice because we are too busy or because we grown too accustomed to seeing them. Everything we experience and everything we see is a gift from God. It's time to stop and smell the roses.

It is different now.

You: Computers have gotten much more powerful, smaller and faster.

Me: So now the criminally minded programmer can do a lot more damage, much faster. Spam, Hack, Virus, ID Theft, and a million more.
--
You: Hard drives have gone from 100k storage to many Gigabytes.

Me: I installed the first 10,000,000 character disk in So Cal. It was 50 disks, each 2 feet in diameter. On Sat we punched IBM cards all day, to back up the files.
---
You: Networking has improved, though some debate the wisdom of this.

Me: The first time I sent data over a phone line, we sent 120 bits per second.
--
You: Biggest improvements seem to be in software and memory.

Me: Chapter 20 at the address below tells about seeing ladies with a needle and copper wire, threading the first core memory. As I remember, we paid something like $20,000 per month rent for 256,000 characters of memory. That is rent, not purchase price.

--
You: Breakthroughs? I don't know of any.

Me: I look forward to someway to break the heads of the people who misuse a computer. That would be about 90% of the installed systems. I am to meet with my Congressman in Jan. to discuss the criminal problems of computer knowledgeable idiots.

They were big in those days

In the mid-1950s, I was sent to MIT for a few weeks to learn about a very secret computer, developed using the MIT Whirlwind computer.

Here we were, sitting in a room with gun toting guards at every door. There were no manuals, no printed information at all, and we were not permitted to even have a pencil or a pen and paper with us.

This AN/FSQ-7 we were being told about, weighted 250 tons, and we were not permitted to even take notes, all we knew was what we could remember. That’s enough of that story.

(Later I determined that they were just being kind to us. If we had made notes it would have been embarrassing to see how stupid we were!)

If you really want to suffer through 75 to 80 pages of the early computer days, with many links to old time computers, just go to http://www.travel-tidbits.com/tidbits/003673.shtml.

Remember, there will be a test and a report is required.

Actually, the Retired (computer savvy) Geek, does me a great service.

Lemme 'splain'.

I live in a rural area. Cable is not available. I have 'dial-up' capability only.

I have no other options that I can afford.

With 20K to 27K baud, it takes me five to fifteen minutes for every post to TH.
This is aggravated by having to make multiple attempts.

To download a 1 Meg file takes 20 minutes.
To logon to any site takes 2 to 5 minutes, longer, if they have lots of pictures.

Additionally, the Fine Geek, knows sources I cannot conceive of.

Finally, I do not have the time to do the fine research this fine poster does.
If I did have the time, and DSL, I still could never catch up.

Therefore, he is a treasure to me. I have learned a lot from his posts.
And, I appreciate it. OK, you got me there. I should tell him this. I will.

The Geek does, post the same columns on other posts on the same day.

Guess what, after reading them once, I scroll past the others.

No, it doesn't bother me at all. Nor, apparently does it bother most anyone else who posts on TH. Perhaps, they feel the same way I do.

I consider this poster among the best of the best, and I would never say anything against him.

Kind Sir, I do hope you enjoyed our brief converse here. I did. Please keep in touch, as you are becoming more interesting to me.

I know you are a few years my senior, and I do hope I have not offended you in any way. If I have, please accept my sincere apologies.

Thanks - now that it sank in for a bit, I am not alone and want no credit.

Each Malawi mission trip (every two years) has 20 - 30 missionaries. Twenty-two from our chuch went to Mexico and 18 to Costa Rica. Eight from our church went to D'Iberville, MS for post-Katrina work; however there were other groups from other churches around the country. Google the D'Ibervill Volunteer Foundation and see what Irene and Ed organized. The DBF repaired 1005 houses and put in over 370,000 hours. Look at other links besides these:

http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics/week1143/feature. html

http://diberville.ms.us/news/d%E2%80%99iberville-honors-exe mplary-citizens-153/

BTW, they also helped advise groups being formed to do the same for those flooded out in the midwest.

In our city, the local group that repairs homes for the poor and elderly gets 100 to 200 volunteers per scheduled weekend. We sent 10-12 from our church. BTW, you pay to do these things - the fee covers your room and board plus supplies.

Five of us went to Haiti to deliver medical supplies to a very remote village that took a 35 minute short hop in Cesnas to a grass field plus a 1-1/2 hour truck ride. It is the only place I have been where children would not sing and dance to the music I played. Their eyes were lifeless, and lives hopeless.
