Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

In all the brouhaha over the New Yorker's satirical cover cartoon of Barack and Michelle Obama, a truly "tasteless and offensive" passage in the magazine's feature article got lost. The magazine piece quotes Obama's recommendations for how to stop jihad, which he had previously published in a local Chicago newspaper eight days after 9/11. It's a self-parody of blind, deaf and dumb Kumbaya liberalism:

"We must also engage, however, in the more difficult task of understanding the sources of such madness. The essence of this tragedy, it seems to me, derives from a fundamental absence of empathy on the part of the attackers: an inability to imagine, or connect with, the humanity and suffering of others. Such a failure of empathy, such numbness to the pain of a child or the desperation of a parent, is not innate; nor, history tells us, is it unique to a particular culture, religion, or ethnicity. It may find expression in a particular brand of violence, and may be channeled by particular demagogues or fanatics. Most often, though, it grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair."

Is this man for real? Osama bin Laden's murderous legions are plenty able to "imagine" the "suffering of others." Go watch an al-Qaida beheading snuff video. Just Google it or surf YouTube. Imagining the suffering of infidels is covered amply in basic Jihadi Training 101.

You'll note, too, that Obama's fresh instinct in the week after the 9/11 attack was to diagnose it as a "tragedy" stemming from lack of "empathy" and "understanding" -- instead of as the deliberate, carefully planned evil act of the long-waged Islamic war on the West that it was.

As for Obama's continued delusion about the "climate of poverty and ignorance" that supposedly breeds Muslim terrorists, can American politicians ever rid themselves of this unreality-based trope? This belief is part and parcel of the same idiocy that led the State Department to embrace "spa days" for Muslims to "build bridges" with the Arab world and President Bush to open up our aviation schools to more Saudi students to "improve understanding."

John McCain also alluded to education-as-cure for Islamic terrorism at the L.A. World Affairs Council in March, when he declared, "In this struggle, scholarships will be far more important than smart bombs." Just what we need: more student visas for the jihadi-infested nation that sent us the bulk of the 9/11 hijackers.

Author and National Review Online blogger Mark Steyn's sharp rejoinder to McCain then applies to Obama now: "There's plenty of evidence out there that the most extreme 'extremists' are those who've been most exposed to the west -- and western education: from Osama bin Laden (summer school at Oxford, punting on the Thames) and Mohammed Atta (Hamburg University urban planning student) to the London School of Economics graduate responsible for the beheading of Daniel Pearl. The idea that handing out college scholarships to young Saudi males and getting them hooked on Starbucks and car-chase movies will make this stuff go away is ridiculous -- and unworthy of a serious presidential candidate."

Ayman al-Zawahiri didn't need more education or wealth to steer him away from Islamic imperialism and working toward a worldwide caliphate. He has a medical degree. So does former Hamas biggie Abdel al-Rantissi. Seven upper-middle-class jihadi doctors were implicated in the 2007 London/Glasgow bombings. Suspected al-Qaida scientist Aafia Siddiqui, still wanted by the FBI for questioning, is a Pakistani who studied microbiology at MIT and did graduate work in neurology at Brandeis.

And as I've reported before and must reiterate for the hard of hearing in Washington, lowering academic standards at American colleges helped al-Qaida mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed further the jihadi cause. In the early 1980s, he enrolled at tiny Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C., which had dropped its English requirements to attract -- ahem -- wealthy Middle Easterners.

At Chowan, Mohammed bonded with other Arab Muslim foreign students known as the "Mullahs" for their religious zeal. Mohammed then transferred to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering along with 30 other Muslims.

Mohammed applied his Western learning to oversee the 1993 World Trade Center bombing plot (six Americans dead), the U.S.S. Cole attack (17 American soldiers dead) and the 9/11 attacks (3,000 dead). He has also been linked to the 1998 African embassy bombings (212 dead, including 12 Americans), the plot to kill the pope, the murder of American journalist Daniel Pearl and the Bali nightclub blast that killed nearly 200 tourists, including two more Americans.

Perhaps bleeding-heart Obama thinks a master's degree in social work would have convinced poverty-stricken, helpless, ignorant, despairing Mohammed to change his mind?

The bottom line is...
That it really doesn't matter why Jihadists were willing to do what they did on 9-11. YOu cannot educate an entire society. It only takes a handful of people to set off a nuclear device or fly a jet into the next office tower.

THis kind of whining and catterwalling will quadruple when thirty thousand American civiilans are murdered. It doesn't matter why. All that matters is that it doesn't happen again.

Democrats can't seem to get that through their thick skulls. G. Bush understands. Nations cannot be allowed to support terrorism. What if the next attack is biological? Something developed in the state of Iran and capable of killing millions? Oh, then it will be time to do something about it.

Six years ago was the time, and if the President's actions had had the full support of Congress during the intervening years, I suspect that Iran would now be a free country - probably freed through internal action.

When you are attacked, it is the coward who wants to talk about it. It is the fool who thinks he can negotiate with madmen. It is the Lawyer Nation, flexing its muscle.

Robert
I have spoken to several of my friends who coach at W.T White, and they have never heard of anyone like you on the Longhorn team.

Well it's late,
so I must hit the sack. To all good night except to RahHideIQ Is-29 FOADESABATM.

Jihadist are created by conditions
that our of their control. They see their Arab brothers pushed out of their homes, their farmlands confiscated and stolen from them by Israel, all of this aided by the US. They see poverty in their land as their rulers sponge away all the riches form the oil. Desperate people learn to hate. What better target than the US.

recession where are you?
does anyone know when the next recession will start. or has it alreqdy happened and i missed it. i would hate that i had such a good time uring the last one. would a coup0le of you take it upon yourself f to let me know the exact instant it starts, i would hate to miss a second of it.

and the reason is...
chicaree: "Jihadist are created by conditions
that our of their control. They see their Arab brothers pushed out of their homes, their farmlands confiscated and stolen from them by Israel, all of this aided by the US. They see poverty in their land as their rulers sponge away all the riches form the oil. Desperate people learn to hate. What better target than the US."

That's because we are the main supporters of Israel, our 51st state. Lieberman is their senator. When the Israeli "made in USA" bombs drop (and that is the only thing these days made in the USA)on their ghettos, what else do you expect them to think of us?

Jihadist are created by conditions
Baloney. They do it because they enjoy it. They do it to their "Arab Brothers." They like it enough that they film it so that they can relive it over and over again. They'd do it to you if you if you were available. Wake up.

So your answer is what, Rawhide?
Just leave them alone, right.

That was Bill Clinton's answer. A good lawyer can justify any position. That was Neville Chamberlain's answer. You won't wake up to the danger or harboring terrorists until someone you know is burned alive or forced to jump off of a high-rise - or maybe they, or you, catch something really nasty, developed in a lab in a third world nation. But until that happens, let's just leave them alone. After all, it was only 3,000 innocents - and you didn't know a one.

Poor and Ignorance bred ??
Poor and ignorant Africans bred no terrorists.

Poor and ignorant Muslim African (eg Sudanese) and Mid East Muslims bred terrorists.

How many Harvard degrees are needed to see the difference?

Legal immigrant

chicaree
So "desperate people learn to hate. What better target than the US", huh?

A lot of the Mexicans who come streaming across our border are desperate also. So why aren't they coming across our border with bombs hidden underneath their clothing? And what "desperation" drove Khalid Sheikd Mohammed, who the U.S. equipped with the skills that would have allowed him to make a very nice living indeed? For that matter, what "desperation" drove Osama Bin Laden? Last I knew, the dude was a multi-millionaire. Do I need to go on?

Salman Rushdie dealt with the nonsense you're spouting shortly after 9/11 when he declared that to justify terrorism by blaming U.S. policy is to deny the fundamental basis of morality: that the individual IS responsible for his actions. But there's the ugliest two words in the English language for a liberal, isn't there: personal responsibility.

And one thing you're totally ignoring: a lot of the hate of the U.S. that the people of the Islamic world are taught in their societies is the product of their governments who feed their citizens this diet of hate because those governments use the U.S. as a useful scapegoat to deflect their citizens' discontent away from the REAL cause of their citizens' desperation, which is the utterly incompetent governance of those governments. And as long as such governments are in power in the Muslim world, it won't matter WHAT the U.S. does, these governments will STILL try to deflect their citizens' unhappiness with conditions in their homelands by telling them that all their problems are the fault of the U.S.

Happy Horsepuckey
The terrorists are not bad people but were made that way because they lived too long in "a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair." Therefore, all we Americans need to do is raise our taxes through the roof and throw container-lots of our cash at every Islamist. Yes, that's right, America, money can buy love!

Get ready for a rough ride, America.

War Creates More War.
It's a very simple science.

How do we unmake war? By beginning the separate process, which is nonviolent conflict resolution. The conflict is not ignored; it is dealt with in the only way that cuts the cycle of violence.

This science is very old. Some of the leading minds who helped craft it were Jesus, Gandhi, and MLK, among many others.

If you're at all interested in creating peace, you would do well to take the class. It's free online:

Hard Truth
The only reliable way to end terrorism is to kill all of the terrorists. This truth is being demonstrated in the cases of FARC, Al-Qaida and the Taliban, and it will have to be repeatedly demonstrated until no more self-advertising terrorist groups exist. The terrorists are relying on America's unwillingness to embrace this hard truth, which is why they endorse Sen. Obama for president.

Serious Candidate?
Michelle, you of all people calling BHO a serious candidate.

Yes he is serious about winning, he is taking every position possible to please everyone. Yes he is a serious socialist, looking for power where ever he can find it. Yes he is serious about change - as in the loose change in the sofa, which is all you will have left when he is done taking your money.

But serious in the sense of not frivolous? It takes more than ambition to be serious in that way. It takes some substance.

Islam kills people switching to Christ
Islamic rule says people switching from Muslim to Christianity should be put to death.

Why is it all the Imams and all the Dictators of the various Islamic countries are not down on Obama but are endorsing him?

Hussein is the name of Mohammed's son. It is a special name and it is an insult for someone to hold the name and not be a practicing Muslim.

Why aren't the Imam's and Dictators calling for Obama's death?

Adults verses children
Dave Ramsey (yes the finance guy) says it best - it applies to politics as well (or better than) money matters.

"Adults have a plan; children do what feels good."

Liberals always do what "feels" good - what makes them feel good about themselves - so compassionate, so open minded, so sensitive to others' feelings. Stick their fingers in their ears and sing La,la,la while we get wiped out. INFANTILE!

Adults have a plan. Stop the jihadists, spread democracy, stabilize the Middle East. Amd if it takes hurting someone's feelings because they think they're being "profiled" - tough. Your feelings are more important than lives.

"To err is human, to forgive, divine. Neither is Marine Corps policy." Semper Fi!

OK, now I understand
It has all become clear to me now. The reason that these Jihadist hate America, is because they went to the same type of school that Obamah attended. They were exsposed to the hatred of Western civilization and capitalism, espoused by their eternally guilty professors, and convinced that any society that allowed such week minded and ignorant fools to teach it's offspring, should be condemed to death. I actually understand how they could be confused.
I went through the same education system and often felt a desire to do harm to the morons that were supposed to be educating me, but were instead stealing my money in order to fund their own psycotic/nuerotic agenda. It is unfortunate for the majority of the freedom loving people of this, the greatest nation on Earth, that the Jihadist apparently think that what they experienced in the Universities is America. From the perspective of an immigrant who has been here since Sept. 2000, who has a Bachelor's Degree, and has done my best to chase the American dream, I know just how wrong they (the jihadist and the American left) are. Take note of this......What is the common factor of the Left and the Jihadists?............Both want to tell you how you should live your life. Both want to take choice away from you. Both fear free will. Both are dangerous to the Republic of the United States of America.

God bless America
God bless America's friends

Adults verses children
Small but important correction:

"Your feelings are NOT more important than lives!"

Flag as..........
I see the little flags after each posting "flag as offensive" and I wonder how one defines such offense. Personally, I find extreme stupidity and ignorance offensive. Could we change the flags to "flag as incredibly stupid"? Just a thought.

Response to New Yorker Cover
If Barack Obama finds that cover upsetting, he's WAY too sensitive to be President. If he ever becomes President, he will be subject to FAR crueler, tackier, more unfair caricatures. That cartoon is MILD AS MILK, compared to the antiIsrael cartoons that infest American and European-I won't even mention Arab-newspapers. By the way, the Ku Klux Klan is full of victims of poverty, ignorance and demagogues. I don't think Barack feels any need to empathize with them.

What, not Why
Back in the days of Nuns with Guns, we girls learned that the Sisters were not interested in WHY we wrote bad words on the washroom mirror in lipstick, or WHY we came to school with our skirts too short and wearing fishnet tights, or WHY we had just kicked Sarah in the hind end. It was WHAT we had done that Sister came down on like the proverbial ton of bricks, and WHAT we had done that had us sitting in the Detention Panopticon, facing the wall, writing that bad word two thousand times in our best Palmer Cursive (Sisters cure for profanity and blasphemy, besides having to call your mother and tell her exactly what word you had written).

The way to stop Jihadis is to punish WHAT they do, not to worry about WHY they claim they are doing it. Just like Sister, our goal is to stop the rogue behaviour in its tracks and make sure it does not happen again. That didnt used to be hard to understand.

Poverty ?
Osama Ben Laddin was not raised in poverty!
Obama constantly misrepresents the facts to advance his scocalist view.

Alright
Fall in, maggots.

Sergeant Slaughter's here, and he's come to tell ya that y'all are wrong.

Education will stop the jihadis.

Educating a jihadi with the knowledge that a nice tight three round grouping placed center-mass, with rounds smeared in pork grease, will send his little jihadi *ss straight to whatever the islamists call hell, can work wonders.

Hell, we oughta make a video and disseminate it to every arab country and power out there.

Questions?

Alright then.

Fall out!

Alright
Fall in, maggots.

Let's hear what AudiR10 has to say:

"The way to stop Jihadis is to punish WHAT they do, not to worry about WHY they claim they are doing it."

Amen, God bless ya and pass the ammunition.

Liberals, feel free to read that as many times as necessary to drive it into your thick ignorant skulls.

Fall out!

Poverty
Since Obama is such a good God Fearing Christian, he needs to reread the verse about money. It's not the LACK of money that is the root of all evil- it's the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil. I can't remember if it says anything about the Democratic party as being the root of all STUPIDITY.....But WISDOM does come from God, not from education. The good Christian Obama doesn't know anything but Black Liberation theology. How can he know real Christianity when he was never taught it at any time in his life--atheist mother, black liberation/rascist pastor and muslim schools--what a confused and stupid individual Obama is. Hmmm..I wonder if he has a dog...

Two points:

1. With such stupid, ill informed and uninformed statements that Marxist Obama has made, he shouldn't wonder WHY people still wonder if (suspect) he is NOT a MOLE ISLAMIC!

2. A much overlooked statement that Marxist Obama made on GMA this past May....

"But I do want to say this to the GOP. If they think that they're going to try to make Michelle an issue in this campaign, they should be careful. Because that I find unacceptable,"

"...they should BE CAREFUL.... I find UNACCEPTABLE."

THAT, is a very threatening statement, and says a lot about WHO and WHAT Marxist Obama truly is!!!

Watch out for this man. He is a frightening individual.

New Female Candidate
Michelle, is there any chance you could run in November? I would feel much safer.

Oh you poor, poor
lefty cowards. Don't worry, Sergeant Slaughter and I will lead the charge to save your pathetic rumps. We'll enjoy watching you quiver, but we will save you none the less!

MOST PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA !
I WAS STATIONED IN SOMOLIA,SO THIS GIVES ME A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT I KNOW NOT JUST ARM CHAIR INFLATED OPIONS HELD BY MOST PEOPLE.WE HAVE OPENED UP A CAN OF TROUBLE A LONG TIME AGO.THIS IS A RELIGIOUS WAR FOR THEM,THEIR THOUGHTS ARE NOT LIKE OURS & THEIR VALUES ARE NOT LIKE OURS.THIS WILL BE A 1000 YEAR WAR WAKE UP AND GET USED TO IT !

Sergeant Slaughter (#42)

"Educating a jihadi with the knowledge that a nice tight three round grouping placed center-mass, with rounds smeared in pork grease, will send his little jihadi *ss straight to whatever the islamists call hell, can work wonders.

YES SERGEANT!!!
:-)

mystic parinoid
Now here is a libturd that probably gets wood when he recites the liberal/code pinko mantra....nonviolent conflict resolution.

DEFEAT, not diplomas nor negotiation...

jim is right.. IT IS A RELIGIOUS WAR for them.

It has nothing.. REPEAT, NOTHING... to do with what we have, or any of the other misguided excuses. It has ONLY to do with the fact that in their minds, we are INFIDELS.

And guess what, folks? If anyone SHOULD understand that, it would be Marxist Obama.

Hmmmmmm?????

Perfect
Stick with this hate line. Fewer and fewer Americans listen any more they KNOW you are incompetent hate mongers. Israel has practised what you folks preach and it has gotten them nothing but pain. Without US aid, they can no longer survive. Whose client state do you want us to become? Right now it looks like a race between China and Saudi. I mean when the dollar and the economy are so weakened that a Belgium company can buy Budweiser that says it all...

WOW Michell
Awesome column. Too bad the first three hours of responses all deal with idiot Wobbie. I just wish TH could find some way to permamnent ban him and his 1001 encarnations.

Rawhide29
From the new screen name I guess Robert is in his gay cowboy theme.

Disagree with chicaree
"Jihadist are created by conditions
that our of their control. They see their Arab brothers pushed out of their homes, their farmlands confiscated and stolen from them by Israel, all of this aided by the US."

Jihad, by definition, is war of religious conquest. Jihad, by definition, began when Muhammed conquered the city of Mecca by force of violence.

In retrospect it may not have been the brightest idea that Truman and the UK ever had to plunk thousands of Nazi concentration camp survivors and other unwanted European Jews down in the midst of a land that had already been violently contested for 1200 years by Christians and muslims, but make no mistake. Jihad is Jihad. It is the compulsory act of millions of muslims who believe that their God (Allah) demands it of them. It is not spawned by poverty or displacement or the existence of Israel. It is spawned by the religious gospel of the Jihadist.

The things chicaree cites as causes for Jihad are nothing more than excuses and rationalizations proclaimed for the 'benefit' of the world's media.

Tsk, Tsk, Robert
Have you ever considered getting professional help for your anger issues?
Seriously Dude, you really should seek counseling for that hate you have towards that Marine Lieutenant.

What did he ever do to you to deserve all the hatred we've seen you express for him?
Even when he's not online, you seem to be obsessed with expressing hate at him.

Hal Duh
Hal: (skipping and singing while he "talks") Oh You people! You just keep it up with that hate line whilst I take care of all the vets against the war(la-la-la-la)Because you're all just a bunch of haters and war mongers....Robert, where's my pet rock? (humming)

For MRCMRC
Economiists define a recession as two consecutive quarters of negative growth (meaning six months in which the economy shrinks). We have not had two consecutive quarters of negative growth (or even one quarter of negative growth) since the first and second quarter of 2001. This was Bill Clinon's recession.

Last quarter the economy grew by 1%. The leftist media has virtually celebrated this as a recession because they want to have an excuse to proclaim Bush as a failure with his economic policy and this is the first time since the the 4th quarter of 2003 that growth was less than 3%.

UncleB: RE paranoidsimpleton, SPOT ON!

The reason paranoidsimpleton thinks "War Creates More War. It's a very simple science." is because paranoidsimpleton IS A SIMPLETON!

I really don't think I want to see the Jihadists beheading paranoidsimpleton while he/she is saying... "WAIT. I'm all for nonviolent conflict resolution...."

Okay, chances are, paranoidsimpleton would probably only get to "Wait..." before he/she would be separated from his/her head!

That would have accomplished a lot, wouldn't it?

Obama Claims he is Not a Muslim...
WEll here is a quote form his book 'Audacity of Hope'..."I will stand with the Muslims if the political winds blow in an ugly direction"
He also admits to holding animus towards "his mothers race" and aligns himself with black radicals. All in his own words, yet the left wing cool aid drinkers think he will bring us all together. Something just doesn't add up here.
He belonged to a racialy devisive church for 20 years; got his political start in the home of a terrorist(Bill Ayers);admitted(also in his book)to an early mentor James Marshall Davis whom was a communist. Ah, let's just ignore all of that and believe his cunning rhetoric of today.
Wake up people.

For paranoidmystic
Re: "War Creates More War."

Actually the opposite is true. An indecisive conclusion to a war is what virtually guarantees more violence. The best case is WWI. This war ended before either side was defeated militarily. It was ended because both sides felt that total victory over the other would be too costly. Thus it was the manner in which WWI ended that planted the seeds for WWII. It was not until Germany, Italy, and Japan were crushed militarily in WWII that we arrived at peace with these nations.

It was not until the USSR was crushed economically and diplomatically that the Cold War ended.

In Vietnam our retreat resulted in the slaughter of roughly 2 million Asians and the permanent displacement of 2 million more (Note to chicaree: the 2 million displaced Asians of South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos have not started a "jihad" against North Vietnam and communist China).

Allow me to quote Rush Limbaugh:

"Peace follows victory."

Wallowing in hate...
Malkin and most posters here are no better than anyone intent on Jihad - the solution is killing, and more killing, and that is what will "win" this war. The trouble is of course, that it won't. We can't kill all of them, and they can't kill al of us. So it's either going to be a very long, bloody stalemate or something else will have to be attempted. If you want peace, you talk to your enemies, not your friends. I've written that countless times ont hese threads and I am yet to see any response that will change my mind. There are what, a billion Muslims in the world? More? Good luck, slaughtering them all (which is what most of you seem to want and what Malkin would surely want), because it's going to take a lot of us with it. Is that really what people here want?

Corpus Cadet
Best I can figure, the poster that gets wiped every morning is just consumed with unadulterated jealousy, over the simple fact that USMC Lt. is everything he will never be.

I'm sure that finding a poster that best exemplifies all the best qualities of a Marine, one that has served with distinction, and is coherent (let's face it, the rabid poster is never coherent), must act like acid on an open wound.

Hope this helps!!

Obama and his groupies...
... ignore the facts.

"Most often, though, it grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair."

Fact: Osama bin Laden is one of the world's richest men.

Fact: Each and every one of the 9/11 hijackers came from an upper middle class backgound.

Fact: Each and every one of the 9/11 hijackers had e better education than the average US high school graduate.

But don't let the facts get in the way of your excuse-making. Keep believing the standard liberal pap. It's the only way you can continue to blame the US for the evil committed by these religious extremists.

Diplomat: U.S. arrogant, stupid in Iraq
CNN) — A senior U.S. State Department diplomat told Arab satellite network Al Jazeera that there is a strong possibility history will show the United States displayed “arrogance” and “stupidity” in its handling of the Iraq war.

Alberto Fernandez, director of the Office of Press and Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of Near East Affairs, made his comments on Saturday to the Qatar-based network.

“History will decide what role the United States played,” he told Al Jazeera in Arabic, based on CNN translations. “And God willing, we tried to do our best in Iraq.”

“But I think there is a big possibility … for extreme criticism and because undoubtedly there was arrogance and stupidity from the United States in Iraq,” the diplomat told Al Jazeera.

“I can only assume his remarks must have been mistranslated. Those comments obviously don’t reflect our policy,” a senior Bush administration official said.

Republicans and Our Enemies?

By JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR.
May 23, 2008; Page A15

WSJ-On Wednesday, Joe Lieberman wrote on this page that the Democratic Party he and I grew up in has drifted far from the foreign policy espoused by Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and John Kennedy.

In fact, it is the policies that President George W. Bush has pursued, and that John McCain would continue, that are divorced from that great tradition – and from the legacy of Republican presidents like Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

Sen. Lieberman is right: 9/11 was a pivotal moment. History will judge Mr. Bush’s reaction less for the mistakes he made than for the opportunities he squandered.

The president had a historic opportunity to unite Americans and the world in common cause. Instead – by exploiting the politics of fear, instigating an optional war in Iraq before finishing a necessary war in Afghanistan, and instituting policies on torture, detainees and domestic surveillance that fly in the face of our values and interests – Mr. Bush divided Americans from each other and from the world.
