Meet the GOP's Border Control Cross-Dressers

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Every Democrat running for president thinks anti-illegal immigration activists are all racists and xenophobes. Do we really need a Republican nominee for president who thinks the same way?

Breakout GOP candidate Mike Huckabee, the soft-on-border control former governor of Arkansas, scored a jaw-dropping endorsement Tuesday from Jim Gilchrist, founder of the Minuteman Project. Despite a long gubernatorial record opposing employer sanctions and pushing tax-subsidized illegal alien education benefits, Huckabee won Gilchrist's support by unveiling a last-minute, tough-sounding homeland security plan.

Trouble is, Huckabee has downright and longstanding contempt for his new bedfellows of convenience.

Just two years ago, Huckabee appeared before the open-borders Hispanic group, The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), preaching an open-door policy. According to the Arkansas News Bureau, Huckabee also criticized state legislation requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote and enhanced reporting of illegal aliens as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life -- not to mention "inflammatory," "race-baiting" and "demagoguery."

Just last year, Huckabee lambasted opponents of the bipartisan shamnesty bill providing a mass pardon to illegal aliens as "driven by racism or nativism." He called strict immigration enforcement -- the kind he now supports -- "sheer folly" in his campaign-timed book released earlier this year. He actively invited the Mexican government to establish a consulate in Arkansas -- giving its office a $1 per year special office space rate -- so that its foreign officials could start dispensing security-undermining matricula consular ID cards to illegal aliens for banking and employment purposes. And he's not only for government in-state illegal alien discounts, he's for expanding them far beyond what the federal DREAM Act proposed.

But now that he needs to establish his border control bona fides, Huckabee is all honey. "Frankly, Jim," he said to the Minuteman Project founder at a press conference in Iowa on Tuesday, "I've got to tell you there were times in the early days of the Minutemen I thought, 'What are these guys doing, what are they about?' I confess I owe you an apology."

It's Gilchrist and those who allow themselves to be snowed by Huckabee's cynical conversion who'll be sorry and deep in apology debt, I guarantee you. Huckabee showed his true colors at the Univision Spanish-language debate over the weekend when he pandered to the crowd by lamenting "racial profiling" of immigrants -- while remaining silent about catch-and-release policies that fail to detain criminal aliens who go on to commit more heinous crimes because politically correct politicians and police chiefs are more concerned with being accused of "racial profiling" than protecting the public.

Huckabee isn't the only shameless border control cross-dresser in the GOP field, of course. Rudy "I supported sanctuary policies before I was against them, but my sanctuary policy wasn't really a sanctuary policy, anyway" Giuliani now quotes "the advice of a great man, Father Hesburgh, who said, 'We must close the back door of illegal immigration in order to preserve the front door of legal immigration.'" In an interview with Washington Examiner reporter and author Bill Sammon, Giuliani now says he really, truly would have deported 400,000 illegal aliens in New York if he could have. Never mind that small matter of the lawsuit he brought against the feds to block them from enforcing immigration laws. Never mind that he was openly inviting illegal aliens into his open-borders safe harbors.

Reports Sammon: "Some of the hardest-working and most productive people in this city are undocumented aliens," the mayor said at a 1994 press conference. "If you come here and you work hard and you happen to be in an undocumented status, you're one of the people who we want in this city. You're somebody that we want to protect, and we want you to get out from under what is often a life of being like a fugitive, which is really unfair."

Bringing up the false convert rear is Sen. John McCain. Earlier this year, he was the most vocal critic of grass-roots conservatives who mobilized against the amnesty bill. He now says he has learned his lesson and supports securing the border. He has learned nothing. During the shamnesty debacle, he called Rush Limbaugh a "nativist"; over the weekend, he repeated such contemptuous "straight talk" at the Univision debate by assailing what he called anti-Hispanic rhetoric. In an interview with the New Yorker, he irritatedly dismissed immigration concerns in Iowa as marginal and irrational -- just a bunch of "senior citizens" in Iowa caught up in the "emotion" of a cultural assault.

Bad enough that the Democrat candidates are still stuck in a 9/10 mentality on the nexus between immigration and national security. The question for conservatives is: Would a Republican immigration drag queen be any better -- or worse?

Big bruhaha over nothing
I heard on Rush this morning that Gilchrist either did NOT throw his support behind Huckabee, or that he would withdraw it if he had ... so I think some of you can stop worrying about that.

I for one would never believe Gilchrist would have backed Huckabee in any event, given Huckabee's penchant for kissing illegal alien backsides!

Final for Akagi
Re: Yamamoto, Yamaguchi, and Nagumo

Yamamoto was in overall command of the Japanese attempt to invade and capture Midway Island. He commanded from his flagship, the battleship Yamato. But the Yamato was 300 behind Nagumo's carrier strike force.

Due to radio silence being strictly observed to prevent the Americans from discovering the whereabouts of the fleet and the advance strike force and invasion force, Yamamoto's sole significant order in the actual battle of Midway was to order the withdrawal of the entire Japanese fleet and invasion force (the invasion force was under the command of Admiral Kondo) after US carrier planes sunk all four of the carriers in Nagumo's strike force.

It was Nagumo who gave the orders for all four carriers in the strike force to attack Midway (initially) and also during the ensuing air-to-sea battle between his strike force and the three US carriers.

Yamaguchi, who commanded the Hiryu at Midway, was SUBORDINATE to Nagumo in that battle. He effectively took command of the strike force only after (and because) the Akagi, Kaga, and Soryu were destroyed by US carrier planes. This left the Hiryu as the lone surviving carrier in the strike force. It too would be sunk in a subsequent attack.

Yamaguchi gets credit for having finally rendered the USS Yorktown harmless (although still afloat) with a second attack from the Hiryu's planes after an initial attack had damaged her but left her operational.

Yamamoto's only other order of note was to order the Yorktown, which had been abandoned, to be torpedoed to be sure it went to the bottom before the Japanese withdrew to their homeland, defeated and humiliated.

ROHRABACHER (R) Bush “lying”
What message is President Bush sending to border control agents and drug dealers?

FROM LOU DOBBS SHOW

REP. DANA ROHRABACHER (R), CALIFORNIA: Yeah, I think the president has been lying about this from day one. Got that lying, not telling the truth and that was fully exposed when he let “Scooter” Libby go in a millisecond.

WIAN: This month Rohrabacher and Delahunt introduced a new bipartisan resolution, asking President Bush to immediately commute the sentences of the former agents.

charlie: AGREED! 100%
I'd be thrilled if it were Hunter.. and happy if it had been Tancredo and/or Thompson as well...

Just very disappointed at this point.

Really wish
I really wish it had been Duncan Hunter instead of Huckabee who broke from the rear of the GOP pack and into the media spotlight; here's a guy of noble, intelligent public service who actually has been right with the GOP base on all issues.
Hunter should be acceptable to social and fiscal conservatives alike (although I have never seen the exclusivity of each of these groups within the GOP). Talk about a fine voice for "WE, the PEOPLE."
Huckabee (being raised high in numbers by a finally aroused evangelical portion of the GOP base)included, ALL of the choices being presented as "front runners" are bad choices for true GOP patriots.

Devout Agnostic
DA: "I made myself sound more evil than I really am..."

Hmmm. Matter of opinion, I think. After I read what you actually did, it was FAR worse than I had thought to begin with.

DA: "I can tell you that when poor Sister Lenore ran out of the room crying, my partner in crime and I were mortified, and went after her with our tails between our legs, apologising profusely!"

I accept that, but by then the damage was done. Her authority was completely undermined.

DA: "It was a case of my humor getting a bit out of hand I think...."

Heh... Understatement!

DA: "Sister Lenore, was a new teacher (very young) from a different order than we were used to. She wore a full habit covering her head (different than our other nuns)."

Ok. Young, innocent nun....

DA: "I questioned her on whether she had hair under the habit. She replied that she did. I, being stubborn, demanded proof."

I would describe this as just a tweensy weensy bit more than "stubborn"...

DA: "Soon it escalated into the whole class, pounding on their desks, yelling:
Take it off!, Take it off!, Take it off!"

Can I tell you something? This sounds absolutely horrific. When I said that the "whole class" was behind you and it was an "unfair fight", I didnt think it was THIS "unfair." she must have been absolutely terrified at that moment.

DA: "It sounded worse than a stag party of horny sailors with a reluctant stripper!"

Yup. Sure does. Devout Agnostic, this is what is called a serious case of ganging up and bullying. There is nothing else I can describe it as. Surely you can SEE that???

DA: "That's when she ran out of the room crying."

Poor thing. I can tell you one thing. She either toughened up - and became "nasty"... or she quit. NO way she could continue to teach in these circumstances otherwise.

Devout Agnostic
DA: "Sister Jean on the other hand was a demon staight out of the depths of hell!"

Sounds just like MY kind of nun! Bet you wouldnt have asked HER if she had hair under her habit!!

Sophie and Pancho
Bob and Lola Hunter, Duncan's parents, demanded excellence and discipline from their children, along with honesty, duty, loyalty, hard work and fairness. And yet, there was always spontaneity and a sense of adventure in their home. Laziness, wastefulness, bullying and cheating were never tolerated.
I remember a photo hanging on the wall in their home of Duncan as an Army Ranger taken in Vietnam. I remember talking with Jim and his dad about what Duncan's service meant to our country. Duncan's own son's military service in Iraq is evidence to me that Duncan raised his own family in much the same way he was raised. Duncan Hunter is the real thing. His positions on the issues won't evolve with every wind of political convenience and he has one of the most consistant conservative records in congress.
I guess you don't need to worry, though. Everyone says there's no way he can win, but if I had a vote for every time I heard someone say "I like Duncan Hunter, but he can't win." I'd be President.

Sophie and Poncho
I am sorry to read of your negativity towards Duncan Hunter. I wish I had time to address each of your concerns about him in detail, but that would take too long. I can assure you, though, that Duncan is a man of integrity and his first priority as a congressman is the welfare of this country. I grew up down the street from Duncan Hunter and went to school with his younger brother, Jim. I spent many hours at their home as a kid and can tell you that a visit to the Hunter's home was unlike that of any other home in the neighborhood. When you walked into their front yard, you might find a deer hide being tanned, or a horse nibbling on their lawn, or another brother, John, conducting some extravagant science experiment. You would almost always get a very friendly greeting from their big yellow labrador, Sam. (It seems the Hunters named a lot of stuff "Sam") They had no television. Instead you would find a library with thousands of books and numerous artifacts from American and California history, Native American baskets, pipes, moccasins, antique guns, and on and on. There were regular discussions about history, current events and politics. I learned to shoot a gun and to use a bow and arrow, how to ride a horse and to make clothes from buckskin as the Native Americans and pioneers did. I learned about the damage that liberals were doing to our country and how to be involved in our community and our nation. I have to say that I learned more about history and Native American culture just hanging out at the Hunter home than I did in 4 years at the University of California as a history major.

I think Huckabee...
talks out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. If he is the nominee, I will have to write in "None of the Above", same for Rudy.

The only GOP candidate who can win in 08 is the candidate who makes "no amnesty, strong borders, no tax hikes" his platform.

Hunter/Tancredo

Hillary or Obama for President?
Picture them both as white males.
What qualifies either to be America's Chief Exceutive?
Neither are even qualified to manage a local Super Market!

America does not need to train an Affirmative Action President on the job.

Liberals need not despair.
Rudy is just as liberal as Hillary or Obama.
I know you will bad mouth him just as you do Bush but Bush & McCain are the best thing that ever happened for the Democrat Party.

I can't understand why Liberals keep complaining about Bush.

Devout Agnostic
That's what makes our electoral process strong--- we have differing opinions and very different candidates from which to choose. I'm kind of a cynic toward anyone who runs for public office. They're all snake-oil salesmen to me until I have enough evidence to prove otherwise... may not be the most optimistic way to look forward to someone's tenure in office, but at least I don't feel terribly disillusioned if or when something goes awry. It's easy to cite the Republicans for sinking the political climate to new depths, but step outside both parties and you'll see the same thing happening on the other side. Man is not infallible, but I do believe we have set up government to devolve with each generation of new voters. My grandfather would tell me politicians haven't changed in the last 70 years or so, and maybe he's right (I don't know). But the speed with which we gather information and the climate for fast and terse political discourse has certainly changed the way we run the game of politics... no doubt about that.

Devout Agnostic
DA: "Guess who won that battle?"

Yes, Devout Agnostic. I can "guess." But there are a couple of things I should point out to you. First of all, you described her as "very nice," and "young".

Do you have ANY idea of just HOW very difficult it is for someone "very nice" and with no experience, to face a FULL classroom of KIDS?? It was an unfair "fight" where YOU had ALL the advantages. EVERYone present was on YOUR side. And I can tell you from experience that it takes only ONE defiant kid out of 30 to disrupt and destroy a WHOLE class.

I can tell you, Devout Agnostic, that I took no prisoners. For that very reason. But I actually couldnt go back and do it again. It required enormous energy and dedication.

I close on this point. You referred to the "nasty" nuns. Can I ask you a question?

What on earth do you think happened to the "nice young" nun, when her VERY "niceness" cost her so MUCH at YOUR hands??? And do you think you were the ONLY one over a lifetime of teaching???

No, my dear Devout Agnostic. There was one in every class she had after you as well. Until she did either one of TWO things. Either toughened up and became "nasty"... or quit.

Devout Agnostic
DA: "Funny story, but I do feel guilty about it cuz she was a very nice, young, newbie nun right outta the joint."

You know, I'm glad you feel "guilty" about it though. That says a LOT for you. I dont mean in terms of so-called "Catholic guilt". But we all do things we SHOULD feel guilty about but dont. But remembering something from so long AGO... and when you were too young to know the difference anyway??

That indicates a refinement of conscience that I LIKE.

DA: "Sister Jean, my nemesis, used to have stare down contests with me in 7th grade history class every day, trying to break me of my defiant spirit."

Ok. Well, I doubt she was trying to "break" you as such. She was trying (and failing obviously!) to take control. That WAS her job. And if she had succeeded, you would have respected her, and remembered her with affection. She was going about it the wrong way. As you said, she was "new".

Sophie
I was pointing out a minute error on your part.

Forgive me. It will not happen again.

PS- a BILLION people don't fit in Mecca. This is the last error I will point out.

Sophie
Please know I am just being honest here when I say that I am trying to remain as neutral as possible where all the candidates are concerned at this point (no one particular person from either of the two major parties has me 'chomping at the bit' to get into the voting booth); but what exactly is impressive about Barack Obama's voting record--- the fact that he actually has shown up a few times to vote Yea or Nay? I'm from Illinois, and I keep up with the votes from our senators and reps. Every political official this state has had for the past 30 years as a governor or state representative has been corrupt or inept (or a combination of the two). As I said, I'm trying to remain neutral, and I'll give as balanced an opinion as possible on any candidate. Obama's big plus is that he communicates relatively well (though he's a little preachy and condescending for my personal taste); his big minus is that what he is communicating is empty rhetoric... there's nothing between his ears. For the first time today, I found myself agreeing with MLD on a post. He said we should vote all the bums out. It may be freezing in hell right now, but I have to say he's right on that one. But who do we replace our 'brilliant' leaders with, if no one with any real integrity would want to put himself or herself in a position of representative power at this point in our country's history? All I can say is that it would have to be someone who genuinely cares about America more than his or her own aspirations or ego. Obama is all ego. Trust me on this one.

You probably didnt give "full and free consent" either... because you probably felt somewhat rebellious and couldnt FULLY help what you were doing! ESP if the teacher was weak and unable to control the class. That goes with the territory of being a TEACHER.

Thrid, as to the actual GRAVITY of the issue? Pretty serious, as I will explain later... BUT! Dealing with miscreat students is PART of the deal in teaching. So the fault didnt TOTALLY lie with YOU!

Er, yes. But when reading DOWN through the posts... it is very likely to have an irritating effect on those who like to read YOUR posts (!!) in general!!

Cos they will have PARTIALLY read that which they have read countless times before! Sort of like the irritation of ad breaks in watching your favorite movie!

How about a compromise? Say you attach this "message" to every second one??

Heh. Well, I'm afraid Tom just lost THIS voter... if THAT is his "best" quote"!!! Not much to him, is there??

Addressing the illegals we already have here without doing further harm to our economy will be the hardest thing to do.

The people who employ them are doing it for cheap labor with no fringe benefits.
If the illegals were to receive "Amnesty" and become legal, they would merge into our regular work force where they could earn full wages & benefits.

Their old employer would simply hire more illegals to obtain cheap labor.

So many of them have already merged into our economy that to abruptly deport them would actually cripple some parts of our economy.

To correct the problem will require some real juggling!

Let's see here
Which candidates have accepted money from criminals and steered contracts or used their position to influence legislation for that criminal.

Besides Hunter, the only one I can think of is Hillary Clinton.

As for closing the border, the President really has only so much power. Closing the border will take a myriad of processes, but the primary one is taking away the incentive. Next is facing severe consequences. But even when the invasion is stopped, or at least slowed to a trickle, the question of those that are already here must be addressed in a manner that doesn't cause irrepairable harm to our economy.

How so, I'd just like to know how he translates the kanji for flying and the kanji for dragon as the wind?

You mean Daben, but literally hot air although can be spoken a number of ways, nekki.

I reiterate
As this column clearly shows with its blast of Huckabee, there is a constant stream of complaints about Giuliani, Romney, McCain, Paul, even Thompson, but blast Hunter and Tancredo and all of a sudden all hell breaks loose.

I don't want a President who sells his influence to the highest bidder. Accepting campaign donations, then steering millions in contracts to those donors is immoral, dirty politics. Isn't that one of the Clintons'traits? And, as we've seen, Doc has no defense for Hunter other than to drool on his keyboard.

One more thing
Kaga used to be a province in Japan but no longer since they don't exist in modern Japan, it is now Ishikawa Prefecture in the Chuba region of Honshu. Kaga is Jia He in Chinese.

Ishikawa is shi chuan meaning rock and river. You also missed two other carriers that were part of the Kido Butai. The Shokaku (flying crane which is fei he in Chinese) and the Zuikaku (lucky crane which is rui he in Chinese). Both of these were lost in 1944.

Wiseone (rather stupid one).
Akagi can be translated as Red Castle, but I translate the Kanji for Castle as being a walled city. Of course Japanese Kanji meanings and Hanzi don't always correspond to each other exactly. I'd post the Kanji/Hanzi for you, but TH coding makes it look like this:

??

Castle in Hanzi is Bao and looks like this, of course it looks like scranble code thanks to TH:

?

As I have posted before and you can go back a re-read them, yes, the Akagi was a member of the Kido Butai, but it is also a name of other things as well. The overall commander at Midway was Isoroku Yamamoto, but Nagumo was the commander of the Kido Butai. Japan's best carrier commander was Vice Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi, but he chose to go down with the Hiryu.

Now would wish to continue having a debate on Kanji meanings or the history of the IJN carrrier Akagi or do you something more useful to say?

Touchback Amnesty
Sammy:
You are right. It is a touchback amnesty, in the sense, that they would comeback in days or weeks.

Now Huckabee says illegal aliens who go back to their home countries would go to the end of the line. So what does that mean? Would they wait till all other applicants are processed or would they "jump" back into the country until their paperwork comes through?

Either way, it's a dodge.

Yes, Huckabee is trying to sell a snow job in the snows of Iowa.

Yes, Huckabee is a slick talking pastor.

Nothing new, really. Ever heard of Elmer Gantry? There's been slick talking "ministers" as long as there's been "revival" tents dotting the South.

Correct history
Re: Akagi

The carrier Akagi was the flagship of Admiral Nagumo when he led the infamous sneak attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The Akagi was on of four front-line carriers that participated in the attack. The other three were Kaga, Soryu, and Hiryu.

Akagi means "Red castle" in Japanese.
Soryu means "Blue dragon".
Hiryu means "Flying dragon". It also has been interpreted to mean "The wind."

Kaga is a province of Japan.

All four of these carriers were in fact sunk at the Battle of Midway 6 months later. They were once again under the command of Nagumo when this happened. One or more of them may have finally been sent to the bottom by the Japanese' own destroyers, but only after all four had been turned into blazing hulks by dive bombers from the USS Yorktown, USS Enterprise, and the USS Hornet.

The Battle of Midway changed the tide of the war in the Pacific and may have been the single most important battle of the 20th century.

When poster Akagi says the carrier Akagi was sunk by destroyers of the Japanese fleet he is picking nits and evading the essence of what AGZ posted. For all intents and purposes we sunk the Akagi at the Battle of Midway in June of 1942.

Received your post, checked out numbersusa, and wow, it is one great group. I hope that the SAVE act does all the good it is proposed to do.
I hear some of the illegals apologists around my city say that it is too difficult to deport all the illegals. I respond by saying; that is like telling me that if you have a group of people that are infected with a bacteria, it is too hard to cure them. Solution: you identify them, find the cause and administer the proper medications. For illegals, identify, find their source of employment , close them out, cut off all sources of support, and they either leave or are deported. Simply enforce the laws and no weak excuses. Note; numbers is now on our favorite to do list, great site.

Iam one of those who still thinks that Hunter and Tancredo have a chance, but only if the RNC and the true repubs can filter out the flip flops of the huckster and rudy and their ilk.
Compeon and Ramos should have never gone to prison, but should now be immediately pardoned with back pay, apologies, and a huge raise in rank and salary.
Also for those who are apologists for illegals, give us the same medical "discounts" they receive at the ER, pay in cash mostly for work, free bilingual education so I can learn more of my grandparents languages, food stamps, etc.
I live in a border state so I see this pandering to illegals on a regular basis. Also I live in what is a sactuary city(we just recently found that out through an e-mail.
Gilchrist is one huge dissapointment. We have always contributed to the Minutemen, but now, We don't know if we will still contribute???

More Detail on Huckabee's Plan
I had read the transcipt of the Huckabee interview in FOX News Sunday.

This interview is where Huckabee introduced his new immigration plan. And, where Huckabee suggested that immigration could be speeded up ("Surged"). Surge is my word -- Huckabee never uses "surge," I use "surge" based on his comments that processing immigration applicants can speeded up.

Going to Huckabee's website provides further information: Points 1-8 are solid steps to controlling illegal aliens.

Point nine: Modernize the process of legal immigration.

Huckabee wants to increase visas for highly skilled and highly educated applicants.

But to what level -- what number does Huckabee want? He doesn't say.

Huckabee wants policy so that immigrants "...seeking to come here legally will not have to wait decades to share the American dream."

What does that mean? You could drive a Mack truck through that language.

Numbers of immigrants is the defining data to the policy.

And, with his previous statements outlined by Ms. Malkin, Republicans don't know whether Huckabee is sincere, or what his policy means in terms of numbers of immigrants.

Will the media pin Huckabee down on the numbers?

REPORT ON REPUBLICAN DEBATE

.....Luntz's focus group said they thought that Romney won the debate ...if he did it was on style over substance ...he looked good, very Presidential, but I listened to his words and heard a lot of pre-packaged talking points and platitudes ...for instance he said that to improve education he would increase the pay of good teachers and get rid of poor teachers ...What he didn't say was how he would accomplish those things through the NEA ...ideas are no good if they can't be implemented ...

.....When the question was asked what was the biggest reason for low test scores ...only Thompson had the right answer ...he said it was the NEA that fought every improvement and fought to keep the status quo ...

.....Thompson also got the better of Romney in a couple of exchanges ...when Romney said he didn't lose sleep over how much tax the rich paid ...Fred said he wished he had Romneys money so that he wouldn't have to worry either ...

.....When Mitt said something about Freds acting career ...Fred said that Romney was becoming a pretty good actor himself...

.....Overall I liked Thompsons answers and if I had to cast a vote as soon as the debate was over I would have voted for Fred ...

.....Thompson could help himself to look more Presidential by wearing a suit and tie ...his open collar look is too laid back when people are trying to decide on a President .....COLOSSUS
