The Forgotten "A" Word: Assimilation

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Amnesty is dead. Now, let's talk about the other "A" word. It's the word and the concept completely abandoned during the immigration debate: assimilation.

Over the last year, hundreds of thousands of illegal alien demonstrators took to the streets lobbying for amnesty. Marchers waved "Amnestia Ahora!" placards in one hand, the flags of their native countries in the other. Open-borders strategists quickly replaced the foreign flags with Old Glory after militant activists caused a public backlash last year. National newspapers played dutiful propagandists and splashed patriotic photo-ops of the "undocumented" masses wrapped in red, white and blue to drum up sympathy.

But now that they've lost their amnesty fight, will they still embrace American symbols and traditions? Or was it all for show? And what of all that talk of illegal aliens being willing to study citizenship and civics? And take English classes? Why must they be bribed with the promise of a temporary guest worker visa and mass governmental pardon in order to adapt to our way of life? When did assimilation become the means and not an end in itself?

The inflection point can perhaps be traced to the moment when politicians were permitted to invoke the "America is a nation of immigrants" platitude as a mindless justification for open borders.

The fact is: We are not a "nation of immigrants." This is both a factual error and a warm-and-fuzzy non sequitur. Eighty-five percent of the residents currently in the United States were born here. Sure, we are almost all descendants of immigrants. But we are not a "nation of immigrants."

(Isn't it funny, by the way, how the politically correct multiculturalists who claim we are a "nation of immigrants" are so insensitive toward Native American Indians, Native Alaskans, Native Hawaiians and descendants of black slaves who did not "immigrate" here in any common sense of the word?)

Even if we were a "nation of immigrants," it does not explain why we should be against sensible immigration control. And if the open-borders advocates would actually read American history instead of revising it, they would see that the founding fathers were emphatically insistent on protecting the country against indiscriminate mass immigration. They insisted on assimilation as a pre-condition, not an afterthought. Historian John Fonte assembled their wisdom:

-- George Washington, in a letter to John Adams, stated that immigrants should be absorbed into American life so that "by an intermixture with our people, they, or their descendants, get assimilated to our customs, measures, laws: in a word soon become one people."

-- In a 1790 speech to Congress on the naturalization of immigrants, James Madison stated that America should welcome the immigrant who could assimilate, but exclude the immigrant who could not readily "incorporate himself into our society."

-- Alexander Hamilton wrote in 1802: "The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common national sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemption of the citizens from foreign bias and prejudice; and on that love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education and family."

-- Hamilton further warned that "The United States have already felt the evils of incorporating a large number of foreigners into their national mass; by promoting in different classes different predilections in favor of particular foreign nations, and antipathies against others, it has served very much to divide the community and to distract our councils. It has been often likely to compromise the interests of our own country in favor of another. The permanent effect of such a policy will be, that in times of great public danger there will be always a numerous body of men, of whom there may be just grounds of distrust; the suspicion alone will weaken the strength of the nation, but their force may be actually employed in assisting an invader."

-- The survival of the American republic, Hamilton maintained, depends upon "the preservation of a national spirit and a national character." "To admit foreigners indiscriminately to the rights of citizens the moment they put foot in our country would be nothing less than to admit the Grecian horse into the citadel of our liberty and sovereignty."

We are not a nation of immigrants. We are first and foremost a nation of laws. The U.S. Constitution does not say that the paramount duty of government is to "Celebrate Diversity" or to "embrace multiculturalism" or to give "every willing worker" in the world a job. The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution says the Constitution was established "to provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty."

As our founding fathers recognized, fulfilling these fundamental duties is impossible without an orderly immigration and entrance system that discriminates in favor of those willing, as George Washington put it, to "get assimilated to our customs, measures [and] laws."

Lest there be any doubt this Independence Day about the perils of ignoring the founding fathers' advice, I invite you to contemplate the abyss at Ground Zero. "The safety of the republic" is indeed at stake.

Have you noticed
how the libs posting here always throw in the "studies show" to try to prove their point? Well, studies also show that liberals are full of crap and stupid too. There, now that I've referred to "a study", that ends all debate.

There are better cultures than others
The idea that all cultures are equally great is nonesense.

GIULIANI LINKED TO “NAFTA SUPERHIGHWAY”

Does anyone not think that Rudy will not be another open boarder President like Bush if elected?

NWV-Brit Hume said on the Fox News Sunday program that it is possible that Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani could overcome his convoluted posturing on abortion and secure the Republican presidential nomination in 2008. But Giuliani has some other major problems. These include foreign clients, one of whom is constructing part of the “NAFTA Superhighway” project that has people in Texas and around the nation up in arms.

Hume, the moderator of Tuesday night’s Republican presidential debate in South Carolina, will be in a position to ask Giuliani about it. Questions will also be posed by Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace and White House correspondent Wendell Goler.

Evidence shows that NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement involving the U.S., Canada and Mexico, is being expanded without congressional approval or oversight as part of a plan to create an economic and political entity known as the North American Union (NAU). Federal documents uncovered by Judicial Watch quote participants in the scheme as saying that an “evolution by stealth” strategy is being used to put the pieces into place. Documents also speak of developing a common security perimeter and a common identification card for citizens of the three countries.

As You Please, G.A.
Grateful American:
"IT IS NOT A WASTE OF TIME TO APPRECIATE THE DISTINCTIONS WHICH MAKES OUR CULTURE BETTER."

I'm not going to argue this with you, you've a right to your opinions. Most people feel the same way; that their culture is the best. Why should you be any different?

MULTICULTURALIST
MULTICULTURIST WRITES "I consider it a waste of time to try and assign some numerical value, or even a lesser-greater relationship, to the 'goodness factor' or whatever you want to call it of different cultures. But even if you're hell-bent on trying to do do, how do you account for things like, for example, Time? "

IT IS NOT A WASTE OF TIME TO APPRECIATE THE DISTINCTIONS WHICH MAKES OUR CULTURE BETTER. JUST AS SOME MEN ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS, SO IT IS WITH CULTURES. TRY TO MAKE JUDGEMENTS WITHIN TODAY'S TIME FRAMEWORK WITHOUT RESORTING TO THE PAST SINCE WE ARE DEALING WITH THE PRESENT. ALL CULTURES ARE NOT EQUAL AND IT IS A FALLACY TO STATE THAT IT IS.

Immigration Kills McCain in Iowa?

How can McCain recover when liberals like Senator Harkin voted against his failed immigration bill? Is it over for McCain?

Politico……Arizona Sen. John McCain’s financial difficulties have forced him to dramatically scale back his Iowa campaign, and it’s not clear whether former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani or ex-Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson will fully engage in the Hawkeye State caucuses……

…..It was a hard blow for McCain, not least because he was already viewed with some suspicion by conservative activists in the state.

The senator’s public identification with the immigration bill has been crushing.

“Even as far left as Tom Harkin is, he got so many calls on this issue that he voted with the conservatives on this,” observed Mark Lundberg, chairman of the Sioux County Republican Party, referring to the state’s Democratic senator. “That could be the nail in McCain’s coffin in Iowa.”……..

Yeah, we're Number ONE!!

Grateful American, the same people that produced Beethoven also brought us Hitler, and while I myself am an enthusiastic fan of Science and Technology it may yet prove to be the path to our extinction.

I consider it a waste of time to try and assign some numerical value, or even a lesser-greater relationship, to the 'goodness factor' or whatever you want to call it of different cultures. But even if you're hell-bent on trying to do do, how do you account for things like, for example, Time? Sure, Female Genital Mutilation doesn't appeal to me, but a couple hundred years ago our cultural ancestors were roasting our women in bonfires if we didn't like them. Surely thats worse than just messing with their private parts, but where would we be today if the TownHallers of that era had eradicated that culture, having found it's 'goodness' to be unworthy? What are we doing to the future by snuffing out Islam in Toto today?

If nothing else, it seems especially ludicrous and hypocritical for us in our American Culture, which has adopted, absorbed, and borrowed SO much from SO MANY other cultural sources, to then turn around and look down on them and find them all lacking.

MULTICULTURALIST
MULTICULTURIST WROTE "All Multiculturalism means is a recognition that cultures are not lesser or greater, just different, and that assimilation is a two-way street. "

SORRY TO SAY THAT IS NOT TRUE. ALL CULTURES ARE NOT EQUAL. A CULTURE THAT PRODUCES A BEETHOVEN, EXCELLS IN SCIENTIFIC TECHNOLOGY, MEDICINE, AND LITERATURE IS SUPERIOR TO A CULTURE THAT PRACTICES FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION AS A RITE OF PASSAGE OR ONE THAT REGARDS WOMEN AS CHATTEL. MULTICULTURALISTS BUY INTO SIMPLE SLOGANS THAT MAY SOUND GOOD ON THE SURFACE, BUT ARE VOID OF TRUTH WHEN ANALYSIS IS APPLIED. IT IS PRECISELY BECAUSE OF OUR UNIQUE AND SUPERIOR CULTURE THAT SO MANY FOREIGNERS WANT A PIECE OF THE AMERICAN DREAM.

This is Xenophobic Paranoia
me:
'The essense of American culture is absorbing the best of other cultures.'

beeblebrox:
"Who says?"

I SAY, and so do most other people with brains! We are the most powerful nation the world has ever known largely because since 1776 we have offered the best opportunity in the world for people with drive and ambition to come and build a better life for themselves and their families, and wave after wave after wave of different peoples have taken America up on the challenge. And every one of those waves generated their share of whiners who predicted doom and perdition for America if we let them in, and thank God we ignored them all! Look at us now, THE GREATEST NATION THE WORLD HAS EVER KNOWN!

We screw this up, like you people here at TH seem to want to, AT OUR PERIL. Y'know, over in Japan they are much better educated than us. So are they over in India, and there's nearly a Billion people there, three times as many people having good ideas and striving to better themselves as in the USA. In China there's nearly TEN times our population, and even though the place is one big Penal Colony they are realizing the value of encouraging individual initiative. Do you think the U.S.A. can still stay on top?

Do you know what our biggest advantage is? IMMIGRATION!! Those people suck at welcoming wide varieties of different people, and integrating them into their society. We do that better than anybody else does or ever has. Please Don't screw that up!

Today, many of the people who want the American dream live right across an imaginary borderline, not across an ocean. The present system of immigration, with it's timeframe measured in months and even years, does not even begin to fit this reality. We need a Legal Guest Worker program, one that works in a couple of days, and one that offers an honest path to Citizenship for those who desire it.

beeblebrox:
"To the extent that other lesser quality cultures (of which the Mexican culture is demonstrably one) can contribute something to enhance ours (and Mexican food may be one of the few things that fall into this category) then fine."

"Lesser quality cultures"????? C/mon, beebs! This is as nonsensical as saying something like 'apples are a lesser quality fruit than bananas'. The only thing that's true is that if you believe such a thing and therefore eat only bananas, you are impoverishing yourself.

All Multiculturalism means is a recognition that cultures are not lesser or greater, just different, and that assimilation is a two-way street. We WILL assimilate all our Immigrants, and it will take generations, just as it always has. But in the process WE, America, will change a little bit ourselves, because we will absorb the best of what our new Americans have to offer.

bbrx:
"However, bringing in disease, lawlessness, sloth, and overwhelming numbers of people who want to claim our land and our jobs IS NOT contributing anything of value!"

Yep, and we're going to conquer and annex all those Hotels in Cancun this summer! They do NOT want to 'conquer' America. They may have enclaves, like the Chinese have 'Chinatowns' in many cities and like the Italians used to have 'Little Italy's, but only the lunatic fringe (if anybody) among them has ideas like that.

And to call them 'diseased, lawless', and ESPECIALLY to call them 'slothful' is just slander.

Reply To Christopher Parisho

CP:
"1. Using the word undocumented implies a legal right to be in this country and they simply do not have the paperwork to prove it. They are here illegally, not undocumented."

This is false logically (every illegal is by definition also undocumented), and as Militant Leftist pointed out in the next posting, there are some undocumented workers who are not illegal, but I get your point, the majority of them have broken at least one U.S. law to be here.

However, I will continue to refer to them as "undocumented", because too many people (especially TH'ers) jump from calling them 'illegal aliens' to think of them as criminals and treating them like criminals. I don't see them as criminals any more than I see myself as a criminal for exceeding the speed limit by 5 mph on the highway. (Indeed, I'd have to say that I'm surrounded by criminals, and most of them are passing me!)

CP:
"2. If the illegals are doing jobs Americans will not do then explain how is it that when ICE raided the Swift meat packing plants in Colorado late last year was Swift able to turn around and hire all the legal they needed to fully replace the illegals in no more than 48 hours?"

Hmmm, at "http://www.onenewsnow.com/2007/05/swift_hires_american_citizens_.php" they seem to bragging about how they did it in a few months.

I don't like the idea of undocumented workers taking away jobs from citizens, and if we had a guest worker program I submit that we could regulate this sort of thing far better. Most of the arrested at the Swift plants had stolen citizens identities.

When I was laid off and delivering newspapers in the early A.M., I'd see the small-time contractors picking up short Hispanic-looking Spanish speaking people at the cheap apartment complexes every morning. I heard nary a word of English coming out of any of their mouths, there were no Americans trying for those jobs.

3. They were not invited, they were allowed to violate the law with less fear of prosecution. If that fear was properly in place there would not be as many here illegally as there are now.

CP:
"I am for cracking down on those companies that encourage illegals to come here as much if not more than the illegals themselves. But any illegal that comes here and continues to break other laws (robbery, rape, murder, drunk driving, and drug sales to name a few) should be cracked down on, just as any legal immigrant or citizen who breaks those laws should be as well."

When a company actually does use undocumented workers to avoid paying willing Citizens a somewhat higher wage, I'd want to prosecute them, too. But I do believe that there are millions of jobs that Americans wouldn't do unless you paid them so much money that it would cause major economic disruptions, and until we have a Legal Guest Worker program I can't blame those employers for hiring undocumented workers.

A forgotten word? Howsabout ....
a forgotten language. We accommodate these immigrants' foreign habits to the point where they don't feel the imperative to learn English or adopt our customs at all. This level of diversity is not our strength. It will be our downfall, and the global-corporatists don't give a flip. Supporting this trend is positively, aggressively anti-American and borders on treason.

Tom Joad will find all of you fascists!
Most of us grow up with the idea that things like "racism" and "bigotry" were yesterday's dragons that the St. George's of the world vanquished into non-existence. This column has shown me they're not only alive and well, but making an all out resurgence. Whether it's lodestar speaking of "the latino cabal for scamnesty" or Roadkill58 writing "I am John Doe and I will not see my country taken over by Mexicans." one thing is clear: There are still crassly intolerant ethnocentrists left in our globalized times. The last time we let these nationalists get away with their policies, 16 million Jews ended up dead. It's time we all recognize that our nation is in a war, a war for its culture as well as its future directions, and have the courage to choose a side. As Zack de la Rocha said: "Wake Up!".

Guest-workers ARE Americans
With all due respect to Ms. Malkin's credentials and accomplishments, it strikes me as bracingly ironic that she, a person of non-Caucasian descent, would be defending the concept of cultural assimilation. As an American citizen who's spent a considerable amount of time with Hispanic guest-workers, I can personally attest to their strong work ethics and high moral characters. Even if they're not outwardly patriotic (which, incidentally, neither are a good number of natural citizens) they reflect the best traits of our country: hard-work, fidelity, strength, honesty, etc. Why then does she wish to ridicule them for not being fanatically adament about our nation's symbols? And, to go along with that, why is she singling them out as upatriotic? Why not go after EVERY unpatriotic American instead of just the illegal aliens? Frankly, I think she's given way to jingoism and a nasty strain of ethnocentrism. (Once again, this is made all the more ironic by the fact that she's not part of the dominant ethnicity in this country)

Dems set to sweep
YOU CAN'T EVEN DIFFERENTIATE THE LADIES FROM THE "FELLOWS". So today you're DEMS TO SWEEP again. WHOEVER YOU ARE, YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE. WHY DON'T YOU JUST RUN BACK TO THE PUFFINGTON POST WHERE THE REST OF YOUR MENTAL MIDGETS COMPADRES HIDE OUT? YOU DON'T HAVE THE MENTAL APTITUDE FOR TOWNHALL.

Grateful American
Lacking in logic and ability to reason? This from the fella who takes his talking points from Malkin and Coulter and recites them like the Lord's Prayer?

LOL Ya right!

Big Tent - To be or not to be
Oh please! You have so many names, you know not who you are. Whoop di do....you "know how to spell"; yet, you can't construct a simple sentence. Get a clue....intelligence isn't measured by how well one spells. You are lacking in logic and the ability to reason and no amount of info you seem to think you have will alter that deficiency.

Grateful American
As Jim Croce sang "I got a name" and I also know how to spell. Truth is still truth whether Dems or I wrote it.

Big Tent - To be or not to be
Unless you also go by the name DEMS TO SWEEP,whom I quoted, my previous post had nothing to do with you. Do you not know your own identidy?

Gestall
From my admittedly quick read of your post I have no problem with the type of assimilation you are speaking of. There may be a few, but I don't believe that most of the TH folks are afraid whenever they hear a foreign language on the street. I do think some people were a tad upset about La Raza having a place at the table in the negotiations, while conservative objections to the bill were being dismissed out of hand as bigoted and zenophobic. When you focus on the extremists and project their behavior on to all conservatives, you risk missing the main points of the debate.

The path to citizenship
Military News
161 become US citizens on Independence Day
By Maj. John Heil, Task Force 3rd Medical Command Public Affairs Officer
Jul 5, 2007 - 12:36:44 PM

Blackanthem Military News, CAMP VICTORY, IRAQ – One Hundred Sixty One service members took the oath of citizenship at the Al Faw Palace on Camp Victory, Iraq, on July 4. Distinguished speakers included Senators John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and Gen. David Petraeus, Commander of Multi-National Forces Iraq.

“I can think of no better way to celebrate our independence,” said Petraeus, “We wear the flag on our uniforms and bear it in our hearts; we salute it and pay tribute to it.”

“Those who are about to take the oath are to swear allegiance to a country they fight for and is not their own yet,” said Petraeus, “And over the last three days 173 more took the oath of citizenship.”

“I’ve always wanted to have a real secure home land,” said Spc. Natasha Lavinski, who took the oath of citizenship, “There is no ideal country I can think of better than the US.”

Lavinski who serves as a linguist with Task Force 3rd Medical Command said “I bridge cultural communication between Iraqi forces and American forces and perform necessary reports.”

The Oath of Citizenship was administered by Mr. Jonathan R. Scharfen, Deputy Director of US Citizenship and Immigration Services. “Each have been found eligible for US Citizenship,” said Scharfen. After the ceremony Scharfen said “It’s a good day for the United States and for the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.”

“It’s great to be a citizen today,” said Spc. Jocelyn Harrison, administrative specialist with Task Force 3rd Medical Command, “I’ve worked so hard on this and have so many people along the way to thank who helped me.”

“Becoming a citizen will allow me to get my security clearance and to work in my trained field of patient administration,” said Harrison.

In February 2007, Spc. Julius Ndungu, and Sgt. Neil Kingston of Task Force 3rd Medical Command also took the oath of citizenship, to become naturalized citizens of the United States during their deployment in Iraq.

“What you have done for us we can never do for you,” said Senator John McCain of Arizona,” As you begin your citizenship America is already in your debt.” “You have made our country better than it was before you came to America.”

Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who led the new citizens in the Pledge of Allegiance, said “Everyone here is an ambassador to the country.”

Earlier 588 Soldiers reenlisted at the palace. “Between each of you collectively, you have more than $5 million in reenlistment bonuses.”

President of the United States, George W. Bush, welcomed the new citizens on video screen. “Today the US is not only your home, it’s your country.”

“You are now citizens of a free nation,” said the President, “I am proud you are citizens of our country and I am proud to be your President.”

Toomuchsense
You're right, Roberto hasn't been around for a while today.

Well, then, either there was a secret Shuttle launch today which Roberto is piloting; there's a Black Helicopter mission today which Roberto is piloting; or his parents are being rounded up for deportation and "anchor baby" Roberto is helping them pack.

I vote for Option Three.

Where is Captain Courageous Roberts?
Searching for someone, as perfect as himself. May he find that mirror unblemished.

anchor babies
Congressman Ron Paul has presented a bill in Congress to eliminate these so-called anchor babies born to illegal immigrants. It's about time someone did something...
And since everyone is picking on Robert, I might as well, too. Robert, why do you think someone who is home schooled has less brain capacity than someone educated in our woefully inadequate public educational system?
Last, is your mother named Gloria and are you from South Texas?

PS, Gestell
Your original position didn't surprise me, either.

When the reliable polling data indiacted that about 80% of the electorate opposed a blanket amnesty, obviously that couldn't simply be due to conservative opposition.

Does melting pot ring a bell?
When I drive around looking for a place to eat, I'm reminded of all of the immigrants that have come to this country and settled here. They didn't choose to come here to do the work Americans didn't want to do. To the surprise of many, they came here because they wanted to become Americans and live amoung Americans, as Americans. Because of the illegal immigrants, those who don't want to see any immigrants at all, have rallied to the cause of Talk Radio, who took it upon themselves to label immigrants as public enemy number one. For those who hate immigrants illegal or not, the attacks by Talk Radio was a blessing. Listen when you go shopping, out to eat, or out for a walk. Americans are being taught to hate immigrants if they aren't white. No one told those who hate all immigrants, only to hate those who are illegal. Not satified with the service your getting at the mall, just yell your not American, this is my country. Not satified with the food you ate and you want to get out of paying the bill just yell, your not American and this is my country. See where we're going. This is a bitter pill to swallow, but America is not all white. Go to a Chinese resturant, hear them speaking Chinese. What do you do? Call Talk Radio and report them for not speaking English. Imagine that in a Chinese resturant, speaking Chinese. The same goes for all of the other resturants who aren't just white. What are we going to do report all resturants who speak a language other then English to Talk Radio, and complain about an invasion of immigrants who want to take over this country. I can see Americans carrying around with them quotes from the founding fathers every time they run across immigrants, illegal or not and reading quotes from them hoping the immigrants who have settled here will pick up and move back home. Don't tell me we're not a nation of immigrants. The generations who were born in this country still practice their country's customs and tradions do so because of their fathers and mothers, who immigrated here to give them the right to practice as they see fit. How many of them were illegal?

None at all, Gestell
I was just having some fun, and that's one of the most common grammatical errors people make, but for some reason I find it nagging. It denotes an imprecision that clouds their point.

reply to BrianR
Thanks for catching the ambiguity. I meant to say that "not all liberals" are opposed to assimilation. Now I'm intrigued to see what, if any, polemical point you will make.

We the People
What all this shows us is that if we really are We the People, we must, as the Founders warned us, be vigilant.

What we’ve tended to do is think we elect people to do what we think we’ve told them to do. The reality is that less and less are WE electing anyone.

Why else is someone like Ted Kennedy still in office, for instance? Does Massachusetts REALLY keep electing him? That just doesn’t make sense.

What the defeat of the immigration bill should indicate to all – president, legislators, SCOTUS, and We the People, is that there’s a new way to come together, disseminate and debate information, and be heard above the backstage string pullers. It’s the Internet.

That legislators and the president should be so surprised and angry at what We the People did to defeat this amnesty legislation, should tell We the People more clearly than any other thing, that We the People have not been in control of our own government for far too long, and that we daren’t relinquish this new, tentative grasp. It’s the Internet that’s given us back our right to control our government.

The reason the legislators are reacting by bringing up again the “fair use” issue is only to attempt to silence us by cutting off the previously underestimated power of the Internet.

Just as when it first registered on Congress’s radar and the legislators were so woefully ignorant and out of touch they thought the “Information Super Highway” was a real physical road, and they attempted to impose certain highway regulations on it, they are once again stung by this untouchable, uncontrollable, free and open method of communication that by-passes their propaganda mills, gate keepers and handlers.

Pay special, careful heed: if they are allowed to regulate the Internet, we may as well be resigned to existing in a Gulag. It will happen.

This isn’t about race, neighborliness, trade, or the general welfare, tolerance, or fairness. It’s about who controls lives.

If we would maintain any control over our own lives, WE the People MUST respect and protect and never take lightly the one tool that levels the playing field for us, that once again makes our “elected” officials only our specifically tasked representatives, nothing less, nothing more.

Through the Internet we once again can know what each other is really thinking, where real agreement and disagreement are, what proposed legislation – potential laws ruling our lives – really says and contains, and change our government to reflect us, not the faceless, nebulous string-pullers, whomever they are.

Hold the Internet close; know it is our only weapon against those who would impose their control over us for their own pleasure.

This isn’t some game; my life isn’t some video Nintendo or Game Boy game. Is yours?

Don’t let our government treat us like that. They got a rude awakening last week. Make sure they take it to heart and never again gain control of the joystick!

It doesn’t take special interests, lobbyists, multi-millions of dollars, to participate in government anymore. It just takes an Internet connection.

Don’t let them regulate it; don’t let them tax it. Don’t let them dictate what, who, why, and how. Be responsible for what you allow on your computer. Be responsible for how your child uses computers, cell phones, iPods, etc. Don’t give the corrupt government string-pullers an excuse to limit our Internet access, because that will by definition cut off any real participation we could have in government, forever.

As many of you have pointed out several times, things have gone so far already that if we don’t seize this opportunity to turn things around right here, right now, it is all lost. Strangely, but undeniably, forever has arrived. The Internet is our last, best (REALLY BEST!!!!) hope and means of righting ourselves and our country.

Don’t hand it back to them!!!!

The “fairness” bill may not seem so significant compared to the threat of Islam, international relations and trade, etc., but it is. All else falls, if they pass that one. We will have our throats cut to prevent us uttering a single opposing sound from then on.

It was the Internet that gave us our victory last week, not talk radio. Talk radio is a red herring; it could be heard even by those legislators who still cannot be bothered with the Internet themselves, still “doing business” the old ways. It couldn’t have made a difference if the Internet weren’t there as a vehicle to begin with.

Our victory – in their previously ignorant eyes – was a stealth attack, but like the lizard whose tail the cat got, they’ll be more careful about our ability to communicate and mobilize effectively from now on. Don’t, like the complacent cat who thinks because the thing wiggles it’s the lizard, think we got the beast.

The Internet is our popular voting booth now. Use it well, guard it well.

They have no choice but to pay attention. As long as we choose to make them pay attention.

Someone mentioned somewhere (on another thread another time) that the people can write and submit to Congress bills/laws for legislative consideration. Why can’t we do that with illegal immigration enforcement, border security, “fairness” in media/communications, taxing the Internet, and taxation, period? Isn’t the IRS, as part of OUR government, supposed to be working FOR us, not against us?

We the People have only begun to flex our new-found – RECOVERED!!!! – muscles. July 4 is INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!!

We the People: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Then let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work on this decaying government!

Want that border fence? Use the INTERNET to deluge the White House/ President, and Congress and demand the money already paid by WE THE PEOPLE for that fence be used IMMEDIATELY to erect that fence.

They may not like it. Oh, well. They’re not allowed to pick and choose what they want to do; they are THERE to do as WE want them to. Yah?

"both of you are trying to put words in the mouths of dead people."

Their (the Founders) actual words, as quoted by MM, are profound enough.

Maybe you should turn your vitriol toward Washington, Madison, Adams, and Hamilton.

OMT, I noticed that you have a rather dim view of the role Christianity plays in our liberties and the founding of our courtry. A thorough review of Locke's "Two Treatisies on Government" will put those thought where they belong. In the graveyard.

Militant Leftist`,Struck a Nerve that...
Needs a response. You wrote, July 4,@5:24,"So why does Malkin give a big "screw you losers" to her ancestral countrymen? It is because she is only interested in power for herself. She couldn't give a damn about a far of ancestor..." Along with many other disgusting remarks that struck a nerve with me.Michelle speaks more truth of this countries ancestry, from a position that gives her the incite, and power to do so.The power she receives comes from her knowledge of this countries heritage, and her morals, and values.Morals, and values, learned from birth taught to produce a responsible lady. She is actually talking to give power, and a voice for me,and my American ancestors.Brave military leaders, and soldiers, who have fought in every American war since the revolution. Fought to give you the militant piece of dirt you stand on.Sweep it up,and bag it.Protect it behind your glass doors, along with your other possessions, bought and paid for with my families blood, sweat, and tears.

Washington was stunned, folks
Something Middle America does not realize--> the power elites are different from you and me. They LIKE their ILLEGAL domestic help-- the ILLEGALS do not seem to be a pernicious threat when they nod deferentially from the mower at the golf course or in your nice yard. The elites don't rub elbows with them jabbering in espanol at Wal-Mart, or see them overwhelming emergency rooms for "free" medical care; and THEIR children go to exclusive private schools which are not enervated by bilingualism. The first time an "elite" might truly appreciate the problem is when she gets rear-ended by an uninsured ILLEGAL driving drunk without a license who cannot speak Ingles.

The remote power people get their news from the MM Washington Post, the N.Y. Times (a reason we got snookered into Iraq), the WSJ and TIME. Those rags all believe fundamentally in ILLEGAL immigration either to be PC, or for the "cheap" labor (which is ultimately EGREGIOUSLY expensive all-in to our society and economy-- see Heritage studies). TIME recently had a cover story as I noted here:

*********************************************

A recent cover story in TIME [Why Amnesty Makes Sense]suggested it is time for amnesty. I read the facile, vacuous arguments they proffered. I could see this one coming --> two weeks later, TIME'S Inbox was full --> letters broke 90%(!) for: "amnesty makes no "sense-- we need to enforce existing laws." TIME, not exactly considered the neanderthal conservatives' favorite fish wrapper, admitted it was, "The biggest mail getter."

When people like Vicente Fox's artful shill Juan Hernandez and Geraldo bray, "Most Americans want a path to citizenship for these good people, our good friends," they are simply proselytizing the BIG lies. I actually like it when unctuous "smilin' Juan" Hernandez comes on TV to tell us that ILLEGALS are good for us, and Geraldo alleges that they are not only net benefits, but also LESS prone to crime than citizens. Those tall ones/canards are GUARANTEED to rally Middle America! Middle America has just spoken to Congress as well as to TIME. Fully 72% (Rasmussen) of us believe that it is a high priority to secure the border and enforce our laws, and < 25% care much about "bringing them out of the shadows with a path to citizenship."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

We need to thank and support those in Washington who "get it" and had the temerity to stand up to the Conspiracy Of Evil. These Senators voted to stop Scamnesty the first time when it was a tougher vote... a couple were coming from the left/labor perspective: the great American Jeff Sessions (a VP possibility), Jim DeMint (courageous guy countering Quisling Lindseed Grahamos from his state), good guy David Vitter (La.), Coburn, Thune, pass Tester, Sununu, Stabenow (D), Smith (R-Or.), Shelby, Sanders (I), Roberts (Ks.), surprising globalist (probably labor vote) Rockefeller, McCaskill (a new 'Crat), liberal Landrieu, no nonsense Inhofe, border state Hutchison (VP candidate?) and sharp guy Cornyn (VP possibility), Inhofe (a solid guy), Grassley, Dorgan (labor man), Dole, Corker, Alexander, and Allard, and our two week-kneed Senators who got their minds right because of us Ga. crackers cracking the whip (no prisoners!), Chambliss and Isakson.

Here again is the EASY way to reach those in Congress at their OFFICIAL contact sites... bookmark it and contact them often. People just like YOU derailed Scamnesty last week in a possibly watershed response to the vox populi, BUT WE MUST NOT WASTE THE OPPORTUNITY.

Tell them that you want TRUE enforcement FIRST, no fallacious path to citizenship, NO welfare for ILLEGAL aliens, NO voting without citizenship, and English should be our OFFICIAL and ONLY language.

http://www.congressmerge.com/onlinedb/index.htm

(and a sample letter:)

Dear Senator McCaskill:

We saw you regularly on TV taking a courageous stand against the flow to oppose the amnesty legislation.

We realize that this is a complicated issue and that there were powerful lobbying forces on the other side. They tried to put lipstick on the pig, but it was still filthy with artful deceptions. Per Rasmussen, even two-thirds of democrats feel that our highest priority should be stopping the flow of ILLEGAL aliens, and less than 25% of ALL voters are much worried about a path to citizenship for border crashers and visa violators.

If President Bush WANTED TO, he could live up to his oath of office and enforce EXISTING LAWS and build 800 miles of approved border fence, hire thousands of border guards, and enforce workplace employment laws. We simply need an Executive Branch that will respond to the clear will of the people. Enforcement FIRST-- then we can insist that ILLEGALS start playing by OUR rules (just like the rest of us have) if they truly want to apply to come back as citizens. Americans AND ILLEGALS are waiting for clear signs from Washington.

Thanks for your service to America.

Reform?
I get more and more aggravated at this "reform" business. How do we know we need to reform anything that we aren't using in the first place? We have laws in place, the only dang "reform" we need is in using what we already have.

If we would use the existing laws on the books and then find them lacking I will support the idea we need some reform.

TIME: Why Amnesty Makes Sense
A recent cover story in TIME suggested it is time for amnesty. I read the facile, vacuous arguments they proffered. I could see this one coming --> two weeks later, TIME'S Inbox was full --> letters broke 90%(!) for: "Amnesty makes no sense-- we need to enforce existing laws." TIME,
not exactly considered the neanderthal conservatives' favorite fish wrapper, admitted it was their, "biggest mail getter."

When people like Vicente Fox's artful shill Juan Hernandez and Geraldo bray, "Most Americans want a path to citizenship for these good people, our good friends," they are simply proselytizing the big lie. I actually like it when unctuous "smilin' Juan" Hernandez comes on TV to tell us that ILLEGALS are good for us, and Geraldo says they are not only net benefits, but also LESS prone to crime than citizens. Those tall ones/canards are GUARANTEED to rally Middle America!

Middle America has just spoken to Congress as well as to TIME. Fully 72% of us believe that it is a HIGH priority to secure the border and enforce our laws, while fewer than 25% care much about "a path to citizenship to bring them out of the shadows." (Rasmussen) It is NOT that our immigration system is broken-- it is instead that Presidente Jorge and his open borders NAU/SPP minions have been willfully and treasonously nonfeasant in failing to enforce EXISTING laws.
In light of 9/11, this has been criminally neglectful nonfeasance.

the latino cabal for scamnesty

Did anybody miss how Carlos Gutierrez, Mel Martinez, Ken Salazar, and Roberto Menendez who are all rich hispanics were omnipresent together telling us what a good thing the reconquista would be for us, but nobody in the MM suggested that ethnocentric racism was in play? Throw in Vicente Fox shill "smilin' Juan" Hernandez and Geraldo for that matter, and myriad spokespersons for La Raza, LULAC, MALDEF, etc. ad nauseam.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/15/AR2007051502022.html

Pan-Mexican Presidente Jorge bush helped make Martinez head of the RNC (Rino Network for reConquista), which is helping drive Republicans away from the current morphed RINO Party.

This globalist, open borders, multicultural, bilingual, NAU/SPP, scamnesty (bring them out of the shadows with a path to citizenship) disingenuous drivel tripe is alienating Middle America. The ILLEGAL alien invasion and permeation will destroy America like a cancer destroying the host body UNLESS we radiate it at the source. We need to secure the border and enforce EXISTING laws.

Fully 72% consider this a HIGH priority (Rasmussen) while < 30% care much about a path to citizenship for the serial lawbreakers. It is NOT that "our immigration system is broken"-- au contraire, it is nonfeasance by our government which instead serves as a welcome mat south of the border. Presidente Jorge is the Quisling-In-Chief. We need to KEEP RATTLING THEIR CAGES in Washington where cheap labor lobbying $ and latino votes direct their thinking against the best socio-economic interests of America. YOU can contact them easily right here-- bookmark it and give them a piece of your mind regularly-- in English!

Assimilation & Legal immigrancy
....are the words in which to frame any kind of immigration reform. I am definitely not a racist; I don't like the radical left; and I don't like the ultra conservative right. What I am is a citizen of these United States who wants it protected and cared for. Those who break our laws to get here and show no interest in assimilation (learning the language for example)should get out of here pronto. They are not wanted nor needed. They are parasites on this great country. What are they doing to affect change in the country of their citizenship? Probably nothing. That's where it should start for them. Change your own government before you start demanding that we allow you to have amnesty after your initial act with the USA was to break the law. Come on now----Get real and get out.

Great article, Michelle
Have you noticed how many have attacked you personally rather than your ideas? Let's hear it for assimilation and the "melting pot"!!!!!!!

Gestell
Is your statement meant to be inclusive or exclusive?

"All liberals are not"?

or

"Not all liberals are"?

World of difference.

reply to Scarlet Pimpernel
In the first place, all liberals are not opposed to assimilation; I'm a liberal and think that one of the greatest success stories in our history is the extent to which assimilation has worked in the US. So spare us the flawed generalizations you conservatives love to make about liberals.

What SOME liberals object to about assimilation is the idea that immmigrants should be ashamed of their origins and culture and give up all traces of it, preferably before they even reach the US. I think more than a few conservatives have such an understanding of assimilation, and go into cardiac arrest when they hear a language other than English spoken on the street.

I don't think assimilation has to mean that immigrants lose all connections with their original culture, and that some sort of reasonable balance is possible between people becoming Americans and continuing to respect (if they wish to) their original culture. But that's not acceptable to a lot of TH readers.

militant leftist
I am positive you are insane...and believe you
are in a prohibited room.
Or.. you are a stupid sob.

Grateful American/Mt. Rose
Obviously you didn't read any links I provided regarding Malkin. Be an ostrich and believe what you like. But she said and wrote those things. Deal with it.

As for what I support. One language - English. Enforceable laws and realistic management of those who are here illegally. Oh and most importantly the TRUTH, good and bad, not fearmongering that seems so popular.

Mt Rose
Cockfighting is still legal in Louisiana and just recently was banned in Arizona. Care to retract those statement about "foreigners". Good example of how hysteria is driving many people in regards to a complex problem.

Founding Father's quotations
Washington's and Madison's quotes are strong in themselves but what Michele has chosen to quote from Alexander Hamilton is amazing. Please go back to the column and read it again and forward it on to all your family and friends. Hamilton's words are timeless and certainly must be heeded today as they were "yesterday".

Michele, your writings and appearances on Fox are always exciting to me, not only your eloquence and unabashed straightforward manner, but also for one so young to care so much as to carry the mantle of freedon proudly. Thank you for all you do!

DEMS TO SWEEP
DEMS TO SWEEP WRITES "It's ok for her to disparage people of color and their Military accomplishments in order to launch a book filled with adulation of how we suppressed the rights and stole the possessions of over 100,000 US citizens because they looked different? Again what exactly has she contributed to this country except to paint an "us and them" situation that promotes her books and columns, not responsible dialog.
She came to the US under dubious circumstances and proves over and over that racism is not limited to white people.
You spout out what you THINK I support in regards to language or multiculturalism although I wrote not one word about any of those."

SUPPORT FOR OUR LAWS, LANGUAGE, AND CULTURE IS NOT SYNONOMOUS WITH DEMOGOGUARY. MALKIN HAS NOT DISPARAGED ANYONE.....YOU CONJECTURE! AND OF COURSE YOU ARE NOT A MULTICULTRALIST AND FOR OPEN BORDERS!!!!????? PLEASE TELL US YOUR FOR PRESERVING OUR LANGUAGE AND CULTURE AND DO NOT SUPPORT THE BALKANIZATION OF THE UNITED STATES.

to everything I write; that sets me apart from Dweebs who dont have the courage of their words...tomuchsense.

I am pretty proud of the name...did you just think "tomuchsense" up?

Robert

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

You Robert, are a coward, besides being an a$$. You set your own self up repeatedly, to ridicule and humilation. So your high opinion of yourself, is greatly inflated.

My only guilt, is taking such pleasure in your misfortune.

You may want to change your name, to chicken little.

assimilation?
How many of the immigrants we see wearing ME ethnic costumes will ever become part of our American society?

How long will it be before some criminal wraps his head in a red checkered tablecloth and sticks up the local 7-11?
What will happen when the clerk tells some cop that he has just been robbed by Arafat?

@Virginia Patriot
I believe it is a red herring put out there by the left and the MSM that the GOP supports amnesty in order to obtain "cheap labor". The large corporations who benefit from cheap labor are just as likely to be supporting the Dems than the Republicans. In fact, most large corporations prefer Dems in power because it helps the build monopolies. Small business supports the GOP and they do not benefit from cheap illegal immigrant labor to a degree that it makes it worth it for them to fund Republican campaigns to get it.

Actually, the real reason that the GOP supports illegal immigration IS THE EXACT SAME REASON DEMS SUPPORT IT! To gain votes.

The GOP leadership, especially Mel Martinez, thinks that amnesty is a winning political issue. They look out on the horizon and see a Hispanized American populace and they don't want to see all that vote going to Dems. (of course, the population would not be Hispanized if illegal immigration from Mexico was halted and in fact, legal immigration from Mexico should also be banned until more non-Hispanics can be legally processed).

But let's do the math:

Current stats show that Hispanics support the GOP 40%-60%, this after Reagan supported the last amnesty bill. There is no evidence that Hispanics supported the GOP any more after Reagan's amnesty in the 80s than they did before so this number is unlikely to change.

So, look out into the future. If we have 50 million illegals in 10 years rather than 20 million we have now does the GOP then win elections? Is 40% of 50 million a bigger number than 40% of 12 million. Sure, but if the GOP thinks this additional voting block gets them wins, then they don't understand how to calculate fractions.

Yet another reason for assimilation
We need to be slowing down immigration, and working harder on assimilating the ones we have.

The news today is that a c0ck fighting ring was broken up in Central California.

C0ck fighting and dog fighting are gruesome sports imported from backwards third world countries. The owners of the chickens that fight are very cruel, attaching sharp metal barbs to the talons of the chickens to ensure that blood is drawn.

Virtually ALL of the people who participate in this barbaric practice are from foreign countries, or people who continue to live among them and never assimilate.

Equally irksome was the spokesman for the Humane Society, who felt the need to be politically correct by saying that "SOCIETY" was causing this.

Fettered by virulant Political Correctness, this man was unable to admit that the source of this obscene practice are FOREIGN cultures.

We can never erradicate negative aspects of immigrant populations unless they intermingle with the existing population, and are met with societal pressures from those of us who frown on these things.

I actually don't get it
Aside from the name-calling from the libs in this thread against MM and others defending her position (which is obviously a diversionary tactic), I'd like to know from Robert, et. al. just what your standard for immigration is:

Do you support illegal crossing of our border or instead, the congressionally approved process of entering our country?
Do you support criminal use of SS#s, tax IDs by illegals?
Do you want congress to repeal current legislation regarding illegals (which REQUIRES deportation)?
Do you support the current resultant process of encouraging illegal immigration over the more expensive legal process?
Do you support welfare for non-citizens when it results in the loss of coverage for citizens?
Do you support giving SS benefits to people who entered the country illegally?
Do you think that non-enforcement of laws designed to increase national security is a good thing.

Your answers will help enlighten us to your position, something none of you have been successful in doing thus far in this thread.

LIBS SAY
1. ONLY BLACKS CAN PLAY REAL BLUES - yeah!!! ANY
Leroy who picked up a guitar yesterday plays better blues than Clapton or Steve RV did... ;)
2. only a black person can represent blacks - YEAH! Whites can't! No minority can..;)
3. anchor baby can't be against anchor babies - WHAT? A reformed criminal can't be against CRIME???? No Mexican can be against illegals?

YOU, " LIB PEOPLE", ARE EDUCATED BEYOND YOUR INTELLIGENCE, HENCE THOSE IDIOCIES FROM U.

HUNTER FOR AMERICA
Those who do not want amnesty and want the border secured and the law enforced will have to elect a President who will do so. The current one has made it clear he will not. The money people in the GOP are all open borders cheap labor importers. The front runners are all beholden to them. Vote accordingly.

LOL, Robert
Your posts are something.

In target shooting, wadcutters are generally the most accurate loads in any given pistol caliber.

As to the higher standard that you deal in, higher standard of what? BS?

I think I'd agree with you on that comment, for once.

Lolo delusion
Your obvious lack of intelligence is evidenced by your use of name calling as well as not backing up your assertions with facts. Quit memorizing Malkin/Coulter talking points and actually read authoritative sources for the truth, not the hysterical opinings of those who are in this business to make money, first and foremost.

By the way
Wanting to be an American often starts even before one gets a visa to enter this country.

In fact, I submitt that the best immigrants don't need assimilation. They only need information, because they have the love for America long before setting foot on this land.

Of course, the Socialist perspective is that America is an Imperialistic, agressive, racist country, with an ethos of lynching and bombing dark skinned people.

So, for them, is only natural and logical that no dark-skinned person will ever want to become one of us.

And when one like me, or Michell Malkin does it, well it most be because we are just evil, like the country called USA.

And we are also suspect of not having a real dark-skinned soul.

The fact that America contains the most successful, most respected, most recognizable, 'dark skinned' people in the world is, for Socialist not design, but just coincidence.

Big Tent
Like I said idiot I believe what I see not what someone tells me. Especially ignoramus' such as yourself. As to first generation assimilation get off the libtard sights and read some books. Medved is a living, breathing example of it along a with many others. Also I went to school with many immigrants illegal and legal and their parents forced them to learn English. Perhaps you might want to try crawling out from under your rock once and awhile and living life a little.

Uniformed Liberal Response
Every "Liberal" post starts with an attack on the writer not the points of the article.

They completely ignore the substantive points of the essay and directly dive into name calling.

What is utterly surprising is how easy 'conservatives' take the bait. Every single time.

What is important is to insure that immigrants must continue to have anything in America but, a foreign child.

That every son and daughter of immigrants develops an American perspective.

The failure of multiculturalism is not that has thwarted the assimilation of the parents but that it opposses the assimilation of their children.

The events in France, the UK, the Netherlands and Spain point out to the dangers of having a young alienated population growing within your country.

That is a real danger and a real issue. Not what nice of a person is Michelle Malkin.

Courageous Robert, I'm still waiting....
While you're supplying your full name. Why don't you give your address.

I'll be waiting Captain Courageous Robert / Robert.

Lolo the Oracle
The research was conducted by Pew and was a scientific study. I didn't realize that you and Michelle are so brilliant that you can determine it just because you think it....
First generation was never totally assimilted and you know that your claim is a total fabrication...

Lolo, re pickers
No invention necessary; the equipment already exists. At least according to the History Channel, which ole Roberto in his wisdom seems to dispute.

But it already exists, and it's simply a question of economics, as I wrote in my post.

Right now it's still, cheaper to use illegals as stoop labor. If the economics change, the farmers will use machines. Either way, we won't be seeing any $5 heads of lettuce.

Right, Lolo
My Mom's a legal immigrant, now a citizen. I was born here, American father. When I was a little kid, she was busy learning English, and so didn't teach me a lick of Armenian. I STILL don't understand more than a few words.

THAT'S the way it used to be.

Robert
In regards to your posts about crop picking etc...NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION!

Assimilation
Michelle is totally right here. There was no provision for assimilation and the was one of the many reasons I was against this bill. As to those that think third generation assimilates that is pure bunk. I am not going to believe some stupid poll or study when I see something else with my own eyes. Furthermore it used to be first generation was totally assimilated, but they don't want you to know that. Parents absolutely forced their children to speak english and assimilate because they wanted them to be American and succeed.

Big Arch
Because you say it is so? How about some proof that what you claim is true.

It's my Christian name. Thanks for
asking Robert.

So do you always answers with your name twice, when someone stops and ask your name? Robert / Robert.

If you are as proud of what you write, as you stated. Why don't you give us your full name, including the middle.

LOL, Beeb
I can't help myself sometimes. Cheap entertainment, I guess.

You'll notice, I rarely if ever initiate a conversation with him; but then he'll write some absurd comment to something I've posted and I just can't help myself.

You should know that, as a certified flight instructor for the 747, you have to take a course in advanced mechanized crop planting. This is why Roberto is such an expert. He may have even gotten a post grad degree in it to go along with his other degrees.

BrianR writes of Roberto:
"Your comment is a total non sequitur, but of course that's no surprise."

That's why it is not worth conversing with him. I think it is better if the thread lurkers just observe the obvious; that the guy doesn't have two brain cells rubbing against each other.

Cheers

BS
Dems set to sweep needs to go to Mexico and see how they treat Americans....
Better yet go to Saudia Arabia and write some of this drivel there and see if they cut off your hands....
Better yet come see me and we'll go out back and fix you up....

Robert's $400 haircut.
I don't know what that has to do with this subject, but Robert may make sense of it.

But wait, there may be a correlation between someone spending $400 for a haircut, and someone that feels his excrements don't stink. For Robert writes, responses and signs off, with his monker "Robert", with a very haughty attitude.

Robert definitely has a very high opinion of himself, and loves to share it with others. The Koby of Townhall.com.

Well, Roberto
You wrote: "What it has to do is that the move to mechanization is not going to happen...it is really hard to mechanize picking letttuce and some other "things"."

Why don't you take that up with "Modern Marvels" and the History Channel, since you apparently have more expertise on the subject than they do? I'm sure they'll be happy to televise your views, as they must have more weight than the experts they pay serious money to for the production of such seriously misinformative programming, which only goes out to millions of people nationwide on a daily basis. You can just write them a letter and demand equal time to set the record straight. I'm also sure that the film they showed of those machines picking those crops was all faked, like the moon landings, by special effects in Hollywood.

It must be a real trip living in RobertoWorld.

Yeah, Roberto?
Just exactly what does that have to do with what I wrote?

Your comment is a total non sequitur, but of course that's no surprise.

The myth of the "$5 head of lettuce:

I was watching a "Modern Marvels" episode the other day on the History Channel, and the topic was harvesting automation.

What was very interesting to me is that as labor costs increased, automating the harvesting process became ever-more the viable economic option. Almost any crop can be mechanically harvested, but there's the initial cost to the farmer of buying the harvesters, which they avoid doing until forced by economics.

The conclusion I drew was that we'll never see the apocryphal "$5 head of lettuce". If the illegals aren't available for picking the lettuce, either other cheap labor, i.e. unskilled Americans, will step in at a higher wage, or the farmers will simply switch to harvesting machines.

Christopher Parisho
Immigration law is actually some of the most complex law we have. Not as totally unhinged as entertainment law but very complex. The vast vast majority of undocumented people are here illegally, but not all by a long shot. In this country we presume a person is innocent until proven guilty. If a person is caught wandering the desert outside San Diego, dpeaks only Spanish, and has no ID, all we know about them is that they are undocumented until those at homeland security sort it out. For all we know they could be Americans on dome desert spirit quest.

Flaming Liberal Multiculturalist writes:

"Kicking them out is a penalty.
If A person breaks into my house, even in this day of political correctness I have the right to blow that person’s head off. I don’t have a gun but respect one’s right to own one."

It's not just YOUR house, it's EVERYBODYS house (all American Citizens). At least 10-20 million undocumenteds are working for your American neighbors, doing jobs they can't get anybody else to do. They were INVITED IN, as far as I'm concerned.
***********************************************
1. Using the word undocumented implies a legal right to be in this country and they simply do not have the paperwork to prove it. They are here illegally, not undocumented.

2. If the illegals are doing jobs Americans will not do then explain how is it that when ICE raided the Swift meat packing plants in Colorado late last year was Swift able to turn around and hire all the legal they needed to fully replace the illegals in no more than 48 hours? Where did all those legal replacement workers come from if not from the ranks of the unemployed legal workers? If not for the illegal workers the national unemployment rate may drop from around 4% to closer to 1%, and the national average pay rate may be higher too. Some who do not have health care from an employer now may also have those benifits.

3. They were not invited, they were allowed to violate the law with less fear of prosecution. If that fear was properly in place there would not be as many here illegally as there are now.

And before you accuse me of being in favor of a crack down on illegals, read some of my other posts on above on this column and other columns. I am for cracking down on those companies that encourage illegals to come here as much if not more than the illegals themselves. But any illegal that comes here and continues to break other laws (robbery, rape, murder, drunk driving, and drug sales to name a few) should be cracked down on, just as any legal immigrant or citizen who breaks those laws should be as well.

Malkin's best quality
Anchor baby Malkin defies parody by self-satirizing. I love it, as long as Jon Stewart's writers don't lose their jobs!

Good example of sophistry
Flaming Lib writes:

"The essense of American culture is absorbing the best of other cultures."

Who says? YOUR definition of what the "essence" is may be what kind of food some ethnic group brings in but this has to be one of the most shallow of definitions possible.

The American culture is based on the Christian principles of justice, freedom, individualism, charity, virtue, and morality. No other country in history has achieved the pinnacle of advanced civilization that America has. Is it perfect? Of course not. Just better than all the rest, that's all.

To the extent that other lesser quality cultures (of which the Mexican culture is demonstrably one) can contribute something to enhance ours (and Mexican food may be one of the few things that fall into this category) then fine. However, bringing in disease, lawlessness, sloth, and overwhelming numbers of people who want to claim our land and our jobs IS NOT contributing anything of value!

Lib then writes: "Don't fret about American culture. Hasn't it spread all over the world like crabgrass?? Isn't that why the Islamofascists hate us??"

If you are talking about the modern liberal contribution to American culture then yes, I would call it "crabgrass". Islamofascists, as you call them (more accurately "Islamists") hate America because they like to hate, it is a core value regardless of what we do. They hated western culture from day one. Maybe the modern liberal American culture of cowardice, selfishness, violence, porn, etc. adds fuel to their fire but I don't care. If we got rid of those things then we would certainly be better off but that would require getting rid of liberals and what would we do without you;-)

The essential American culture of freedom and democracy is what they really hate. To the extent that we export that through the world, making them hate us more? I say, that's their problem not ours.

This Is Hate Speech
JimWG:
"This is a matter of Americana surviving under the diluting flood of others whose own culture is not in peril; it's OURS! We needn't terrorists to scramble American culture if it's undermined like termites under our feet."

The essense of American culture is absorbing the best of other cultures. That's why I had some chips & salsa this evening after having Meatballs and Spaghetti (can you get any more AMERICAN than that?) for dinner.

Don't fret about American culture. Hasn't it spread all over the world like crabgrass?? Isn't that why the Islamofascists hate us??

A curse upon you: May you be blessed with large numbers of bilingual grand- and great-grand-children, all of whom tan nicely.

Flaming Liberal Multiculturalist
I have to agree with you. At my church they still had services in German some 70 years after the last big immigration of Germans. Assimilation in first generation is necessarily spotty at best. My sister certainly isn't speaking perfect Japanese yet, though she lives in Tokyo.

It's Not Just Your House
dukas:
"Kicking them out is a penalty.
If A person breaks into my house, even in this day of political correctness I have the right to blow that person’s head off. I don’t have a gun but respect one’s right to own one."

It's not just YOUR house, it's EVERYBODYS house (all American Citizens). At least 10-20 million undocumenteds are working for your American neighbors, doing jobs they can't get anybody else to do. They were INVITED IN, as far as I'm concerned.

Reply to Progressive-Conservative
Who writes:
"Dems: Fully assimilated by the third generation? Give me a break! The first generation should be fully assimilated into our culture."

People in every wave of immigrants; the Irish, the Jews, the Poles, the Italians, the Chinese, the Japanese, and more can all tell you stories about their ancestors who came to this country (not all legally, either) and worked their butts off to build a better life for their families but never assimiliated themselves, indeed in many cases never even learning the English language. Why are you raising the bar so such higher for Hispanics?

toomuchsense
It's way past my bedtime so I will forego trying to write an intelligent response; but thanks for understanding the missunderstanding (sp?). I will watch for your posts, maybe we have more in common than we know. I don't know your age (it isn't necessary to know) but often the old can benefit from the wisdom of the young(er). I own a small business and employ several youngsters who can and do teach me. Of course it goes both ways.

I'm reminded that grandparents and granschildren (I have 21 by the way) get along so well since they have a common enemy. (Hmmm, I wonder.)

As to the problem at hand, I admit that the longer I live, the less certain I am that there are simple answers to complex situations when real people, and their future is at stake.

Keep in contact from time to time. By the way, I'm new at this so I probably am missing the meaning of some of the shorthand notations. BTW, LOL, etc. maybe someone can enlighten me.

God bless this great nation on this Day of Independence.

Past the "A" word
Lets get the topic into the "D" catagory for deportation

And think of Mexico
Mexico is already powder keg. The Conservative government won by the skin of its teeth and is opposed by a large majority of Mexican citizens. The police department is totally and completely corrupted by narco traffickers feeding the US's hunger for mind altering substances.

Add 12 million more people, many of whom don't even speak Spanish and all hell is going to break lose. Mexico may be insignificant by America's standards but it has one of the largest armies in the world. If it fell into civil war, the war was definitely cross the border. Stopping it would make Iraq look like a Sunday walk in the park. It would probably take decades.

Robert, you're a classic example of
what can sometimes go wrong, when someone with a little intelligence, does not know how to use and handle what gifts that they have. It can in some cases, go to their head.

Your vitriol posts, speak very ill of you, and does not reflect a decent person. At the least, it borders on hate toward fellow humans. Which belies the hypocrisy of some of your prior points.

Intellect without virtue, is useless.

Beeblebrox
It isn't as simple as all that. No politician gives a damn how much you are willing to pay for lettuce, they only care about how much their campaign contributers lose. No American is going to pay $5 a head for lettuce unless there is tremendous inflation. They will just buy lettuce from Columbia were right wing death squads take care of any labour problems, or China were "communist" death squads take care of any labour unrest.

If you think these measures are going to be easy you don't have a lot imagination.

Illegal immigrants aren't stupid. Whenever there is even a rumour of immigration raids the city of San Diego becomes ghost town sparsely populated by a few idle gringos. Most immigrants have family who are legal. They can stay hidden indefinitely.

The constitution prohibits arbitrary searches of people's residence. Once the illegals go into hiding only some sort of martial law and suspension of the constitution could rout them out. This of course would be resisted not only by the immigrants and their families, but by groups a diverse as catholics and right wing gun nuts who hate government oppression. Thanks to the NRA we are armed to the teeth. My parents have an arsenal that would arm every single family member and ammunition to see through the apocalypse.

If you think people are going to peacefully submit to warrantless raids of their houses you must be huffing on a pretty big bag of glue.

I don't suppose that you remember that are Armies are tied up somewhere else at the moment. Would you really have them abandon Iraq to the terrorist to join the deportation effort?

Not to mention the fact that Mexicans are well represented in the armed forces. If they perceived a genocidal form of ethnic cleansing was happening (regardless of legal or no) their loyalties might be strained to say the least.

Shutting off social services sounds like a neat idea. But what happens with the first mistake and some cute blond American citizen of Mexican descent dies from lack of medical care. How do you think that is going to play out amongst the Mexican immigrants expressing their second Amendment right to be armed to the teeth with assault rifles and 50 caliber sniper rifles.

And what about the first time a Mexican doesn't call the fire department out of fear of being deported and a whole neighborhood goes up in flames with many fatalities.

And returning to those businesses, do you think that they will just allow themselves to be shut down. There is essentially no way to shut down a company that doesn't need a license. Recent Supreme Court rulings suggest it is just not possible. A person can receive a death sentence but not an American company--No matter what they do.

And who do you think pays on those fabulous "educational" junkets the Supremes go on? If I learned anything about rich people it is that they hate to pay for anything themselves. If it looks like a Supreme Court justices is going to have to pay for his own round of golf, rest assured new laws are going to be made in a hurry to prevent this horrid tragedy.

Tenore2, check out my 7:04a.m. post.....
then check your post some 17 minutes later, at 7:21a.m.

Your by-line had Common Sense at the head. I took that to be a reference to my tag "toomuchsense." You have to admit, it's some coincidence. Thus my bewilderment at your post.

I do appreciate your reply and am sorry to hear of your admittance of some senility on your part. I do hope that your prognosis is in-correct, and merely your doctor's misunderstanding of your long held mental deficiency. This would be very good news indeed, as there would likely be no further loss of mental ability.

JUST JOKING, Tenore2........You actually appear to have a decent attitude. Even though we probably don't agree on many issues.

Have a nice evening.

Dems set to sweep
It is precisely because of you and your ilk that Michelle's column is so appropriate on this day of Independence. Michelle speaks for those of us who have a love for this country, are loyal to it and will defend it from the likes of anti-American multiculturalists like yourself. Our soveirgnty, culture, and language will survive as long as there are Americans in greater number than there are the likes of you, and we will settle for nothing less. You can bet on it! God bless America, land of the free and home of the brave!

Hmm me and my ilk. When exactly did Malkin or many of her drooling fans ever serve in the military? Been there and did for a quarter century.
It's ok for her to disparage people of color and their Military accomplishments in order to launch a book filled with adulation of how we suppressed the rights and stole the possessions of over 100,000 US citizens because they looked different? Again what exactly has she contributed to this country except to paint an "us and them" situation that promotes her books and columns, not responsible dialog.
She came to the US under dubious circumstances and proves over and over that racism is not limited to white people.
You spout out what you THINK I support in regards to language or multiculturalism although I wrote not one word about any of those.

The simple fact is that you are more narrow minded than you can ever possibly realize.

Racist? Give me break
C'mon Robert,

The term "racist" even for race-baiters like you should be applied to an actual, like you know, RACE.

Hispanics are not another race. Most are either of Spanish descent (you know, that country in EUROPE) or a mix of indian and Spanish (the aforementioned country in EUROPE).

Now if you want to use the correct term call in your efforts to demagogue the subject use the term ethnicist or maybe culturist. If this subject had ANYTHING to do with anything other than control of our borders and the rule of law, MAYBE you could claim that you think we think our culture is better than Mexico's. Aside from the fact that this is blatantly obvious, who cares? It is our culture and we have a right to preserve it.

If you got a problem with that then take a hike south Robert since you seem to think Mexico is so great.

I meant
I CAN'T stand it. In fact, I can't stand anything Lindsey says these days.

@James of Queens
Well said my friend.

I can stand it when political twerps like Lindsey Lohan Grahmnesty says "We can't deport them." Why not. It is an EASY four part plan:

1. Start building the fence/wall on the ENTIRE border
2. Shut down any business that hires illegals
3. Jail any government worker who gives any social aid to illegals (this includes mayor who declare their muni as a "sanctuary city".
4. Deport via bus those illegals that are easy to identify (at LaRaza protests, at the local day labor gathering in front of Home Depot, etc. Make it law that anyone who has to be physically deported will NEVER be allowed entry into the US again.

The fence has to be in place before #4 can work since the invaders will just come back in without the fence/wall. #4 just has to be high profile deportations to put the fear of God in the other illegals who will self deport once the social welfare or job market drys up. They go home and get in line to come back in under some future guest worker program.

I will pay $5 a head of lettuce gladly to see this program put in place.

2 things
1. Libs, please tell me what is inherently wrong with assimilation? What is the downside?

and b. Would some of you be polite enough(haha fat chance) to get your own blogs? Or direct us to your long, but tedious, answers on your blog, please.

Dems set to sweep???
What are they set to sweep? The 2008 election?
I wouldn't think so after how the MOSTLY Democratic Senators voted en=masse on giving away our country to border sneakers.
BUT if you want them in your city, please tell us where you live, we have a THOUSANDS of them around here, to make you smile with the diversity! You know NOT speaking English after living many years here, why? Because there are so many of them, they don't need to learn.

Lets just wait and see which Democratic Presidential runner will tell us that they are going to enforce the laws??? Hmmm was it Hillary? nadda, O'bama? nadda, so lets just watch and see how many they sweep? OK, cause there were just as many po'ed Democrats about this immigration bill as there were Republicans, after all all Democrats aren't elites, remember those UNION guys? They were mighty po'ed.

Too Late For "A" Word. Overdue for "D"

We are arguing sticks and stones while Rome burns.

This isn't racial or troll head games. This is a matter of Americana surviving under the diluting flood of others whose own culture is not in peril; it's OURS! We needn't terrorists to scramble American culture if it's undermined like termites under our feet. We have to be brutally blunt and unbiased here. The _majority_ of Mexicans (and Central/South Americans) have absolutely no problem seeing Denver and Houston and Phoenix and points clear to St. Louis becoming Hispanic clones of Mexico City. Hispanic radio and TV stations here have virtually said as much. It is no skin off their noses if/when this happens -- it will be off OURS. They would see such changes as literally extended homes to them. If you don't mind seeing American cities west the Mississippi becoming clones of Mexican cities then you simply don't care or give a damn nor believe that or hate the notion that the United States has a distinct culture. If someone sees racism or bigotry or some idiotic contest of political philosophies being played out here then please move on to another page because I'm more concerned about keeping the cultural distinctions of what America is alive, not snuff it out with political upmanship and multicultural glee.

I'm in Queens New York which many left leaners cite as a international village of diversity but it has no central soul, no true bonding culture anymore. It's a hodgepodge of insular ethic enclaves that make a circus of community board and school board meetings and create a morass of administrative duplication that is a cancer on the city coffers. Communities "Getting Along" isn't assimilation, not when traffic and street signs and ads in English here are virtually extinct and tri/quad lingual classes are in serious debate. Queens is an example of assimilation that has failed grandly. If you think you're safe from this in some Vermont hamlet or a nook in the Ozarks you're going be very sadly jarred to reality some day.

Assimilation is too late and too presumptive of disposable national pride. The only remedies that have half a chance is a super-fortified border and an aggressive Deportation policy -- and I don't mean merely giving criminals the heave-ho. A ship has bilge pumps to keep up with hull seepage and leakage -- and Deportation should at LEAST do that with the populace seeping our borders -- and that means packing off _millions_ a year. Is that happening now? Can you spell inflating balloon? Of all people, even France has finally sniffed reality and is desperately trying to reverse a cultural corrosion perpetuated under the guise of compassion and equality.

Americana is NOT immortal. Once its distinct qualities are overwhelmed and diluted out of recognition we'll never get it back again. America might continue as a nation, but it won't be the one our parents would ever recognize.

No argument there!
I agree fully, Beeb, and that would definitely be the preferred outcome.

I don't mid debating with people who can present facts or some rationale for their conclusions; he is certainly NOT in either of those categories.

(LOL, Cattrap!)

@BrianR
I suppose if your intent is to see how long we have to go before Robert says "Well, I walked on the moon", then feel free. The problem I have with him in general is that he makes no intellectual attempt to defend his positions or support his accusations.

This is "Townhall", so named because it is supposed to be a place for people of all ideologies to debate their firmly held beliefs based on what Townhall columnists put forth. However, if one cannot defend one's position then Robert needs to go back to Kos or someplace else where having a grasp of the issues is not a qualifier.

Bian
he can pracice for his shuttle flight by soiling his own pants evry day for a couple of weeks!

Warrior see she got to you too
You are thinking with your heart and not your mind. This is how powerful conservatives use people like you as their tools. They assure people like you that you are "the good guys" and are on their team. While people like me are the "bad guys." But it's not just my pension and health care they're after its yours too. People like Malkin see you as blood donors. Like a mosquito she spits a little poison (her special little concoction of hate) in your arm and you don't feel a thing as she sucks you dry.

I am training myself to rid myself of hate for my enemies. It is a hard path. But it will make me and my kind more effective warriors for the righteous. Like the Confederacy, the Nazis and the Communists those that challenge us bring forth their own destruction. It is a moment of for pity not triumphalism.

I really feel sorry for you that you are being stabbed in the back by those who you think are your friends.

Thanks for the 4th of July message.
Thanks for the 4th of July message. Too often people lose sight of what our government is about.

Cattrap, Beebleb
Heh heh, guys.

Cat, you know what's funny about Roberto's use of the "home school" thing, is that it was first directed at him! After one of his mindless exchanges with someone, the other poster said something to the effect "were you home schooled by an illiterate?". All of a sudden, Roberto, not getting it at all, thinks the general concept of home schooling infers some type of inadequate educational process.

That's what I meant when I wrote earlier that he learns a new word or phrase, but never takes the time to find out what it really means. The guys like some bizarre idiot savant, without the "savant" part.

Beeble: Yeah, it's been kinda fun watching the Walter Mitty tales develop while he's been here, from "working around aircraft", to "learning to fly choppers", to being a part of the Black Helicopter brigade, to flying "fast movers" (he apparently picked up that phrase a few days ago), to now being an FAA Examiner on jumbos. He's managed to squeeze in some years of experience into a few weeks. I'm truly impressed! I'm sure he's suiting up for the next Shuttle mission as we speak!

He claimed he "held" a federal badge, but in a rare moment of candor once admitted he only held some relative's badge in his hand.

How can I not encourage further tales, Beeb, you tell me? I mean, it's just so amusing!

Who would leave Europe for the US?
Are kidding why would leave country that has virtually no crime, where the cost of health care and higher education is covered through progressive income taxes, and everyone gets off a minimum of four weeks a year for vacation come to live here?

I bet more Americans have moved to Europe than the other way around!!!

Militant Leftist
Misnomer based on your 5:24PM Epistle of clairvoyance. You have told us quite adamantly what everyone on this board and Michelle Malkin are thinking. I do hope you cannot read my mind about your writing because you might not think me a Christian.

Give it up BrianR
Robert is a classic troll so you are only encouraging him to continue his trolling ways. Rarely do we see anything of substance from him. As for his pilot status, he may very well be one despite his idiocy as I have known a few guys that could solo at least a Cessna 150 and still be entirely clueless.

BTW, the only reason I would fly with Robert in a 150 is that I would have control of the stick in the right hand seat if it came down to it.

P.S. Note to Robert. Typing "LOL" after every one of your posts is just sad. Proper netiquette is to type "LOL" in response to SOMEONE ELSE'S post that you think is funny. Typing it after something YOU wrote is sophomoric since what you write IS NEVER FUNNY (and even if it was it is still bad form). Just because YOU think your comments are humorous does not make it so.

Warrior
you are correct. Many Scotsmen are know to take a sip from time to time too. As a proud American and a descendant of freedom loving Lowland Scots who came to these shores via a brief stay in Northern Ireland, I too share an infrequent fondness for some single malt distilled on the Isle of Islay.

BrianR
I have enjoyed reading your comments to robert, the smartest person on the internet. I have read on several threads where he uses "are you home schooled" as if it were a slur. This statement alone speaks volumes about his actual intellegence, since many home schooled children consistently out perform their public schooled counterparts.

cat trapper
Most Irishmen I know are known to imbibe. Scotch Irish may be appropriate on occasion.

Immigration
The type people that created this Republic are not good enough for us anymore. Our government has set out to rid this country of Christian Europeans and our immigration law and quotas can be read even by a Democrat moron and verify my contention.
Source: INS Statistical Book

1901-1920 Immigrants From:
Europe 86%
Asia 4%
Latin America 3%
Canada 6%
Other 1%

1980-1993 Immigrants From:
Europe 13%
Asia 39%
Latin America 43%
Canada 2%
Other 3%

These figures are legal immigration figures and do not include our current problem. Thank you Ted Kennedy and the Democrats for the 1965 Immigration Act. Purpose of the act was to make the white christian a minority by 2050.

Halo...
... uh the term is Scots-Irish (an American idiom used to refer to people of Ulster Scots ancestry), not Scotch Irish.

Robert-o
Do you think that you just proved that you are actually a pilot? Any of the terminology you briefly disgorged can be learned on the internet.( which by being here, you have shown you can look things up.) As I said before with some of the very liberal excrement you spread, I more believe you drink the JP/4 than burn it in engines or afterburners.

Michelle Malkin is a thug
She may a pretty lady, but Ms. Malkin is a thug and there is no sense is pretending otherwise. She thrives on appealing to the darkest parts of the conservative mind. And celebrates her meanness towards those she views as unworthy.

She thrives on lies. She wants you to believe that the conservative way of viewing the law is the only way of viewing the law. When things are indeed much more complicated than can be reduced to a sound bite.

But most of all she is treacherous. She betrays her own heritage. Restrictive immigrations laws have almost always been racially motivated. Though some times anti-Catholicism was mixed in for good measure. These are not laws that are true to the American spirit. They are hateful abominations that every citizen has duty to resist.

Ms. Malkin should know because many immigration laws were specifically passed to stop the "immigration" of Filipinos. They were part of the American Empire and had all the duties associated with that, but were not allowed to move from one part of the Empire to the other unencumbered. Special anti-miscegenation laws laws were passed in a panic because it was believed that no white woman could resist the lure of the macho Filipinos who were known as a snappy dressers and able lovers.

So why does Malkin give a big "screw you losers" to her ancestral countrymen? It is because she is only interested in power for herself. She couldn't give a damn about a far of ancestor who spent the earnings of a harvesting season on dime dances, knowing that he would never be able to have a wife or a family of his own.

And, if you think that she gives a damn about you , you must be out of your mind!

The reality is that the whole amnesty thing is a joke. We give amnesties left and right for this and that all the time. The vast majority of the Southern traitors were given amnesty for their treason and were allowed to use their wealth to control the "freed" slaves. Amnesty was given to the Vietnam veterans not connected enough to get cushy national guard "duty". States give Amnesties to wealthy corporations that "forgot" to pay their state taxes. We gave blanket amnesty for all those that tortured people during questioning of terrorist suspects regardless by whom or if their horrific actions were authorized. We gave Amnesty to Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi for all of his acts of terrorism.

Theres literally an infinite number of such examples without even mentioning Libby or the fact that most conservatives view the rule of law as an inconvenience of which 9-11 "thankfully" relieved us of.

It isn't the rule of law thing that bothers most conservatives. It is the assimilation. They go into a Wendy's where no one speaks English and feel put upon to have to point to an item on the menu. Things like this frighten them.

But they are also afraid that those immigrants who work like madmen and live in plastic tents at the outskirts of town will steal their jobs.

Well the reality is of course the people who are going to still your jobs live in India, China and even Ghana. There are more English speakers in China than in the United States.

But for those few you actually compete with Mexicans, such as dishwasher's. They get skrewed even more when things get tough for immigrants.

The immigration raids make these folks the dream employees. They will work for nothing and do anything, because if they don't the INS will be at their door the next day.

So the enforcement first plan is the employer's dream.

As for assimilation, Mexicans are assimilating quite nicely thank you. It actually is a big problem for Telemundo and Univision. Second generation Mexican immigrants prefer English media. This generally doesn't fully happen till the third generation.

And despite close contact with their home country , most third generation immigrants can't speak a word of Spanish. Add this to the fact that immigrants are dispersing from old immigrant centers to places all over the country with very little Spanish.

If nothing changed, Spanish is probably already past its apex in the US

But gutting Brown v Board of Education means more Mexicans will be in only Mexican speaking schools. It will be an explosion of Spanish never seen before.

After the first couple of rape victims are deported after reporting their rapes to the police. Things will change. The Mexicans will depend on some sort of Mafia for law.

When you run into a Mexican or "God help you" accidentally run over a Mexican child, Do you seriously believe the fact that they have no access to the courts will mean they will just "Let it slide?" -- Think again.

So here is Malkin egging you on over the concept of "rule of law" that no powerful conservative believes in, telling you she's looking out for you.

When what she advocating is nothing but an employers dream.

She's sitting in front of the computer laughing her butt off that you white trash don't even know whats going on.

What our so called leaders fail to understand is the truth of the importance of national identity. In there furver to be pc they are willing to dismiss the glue which draws us altogether. Multiculturalism is a poison foisted upon this country under this misnotion that all cultures are equal and thus ours should be sacrificed upon the alter some misguided concept of equality. What made us great was that persons immigrating to this country left behind therir former identity to become americans. Teddy Roosevelt warmed of the dangers of hyphenated americans but our fantastic educational system dismisses those sentiments as antiquated and out of date with today's realities. This is also the same educational system that believes self esteem is more important than actually learning facts and that explains the confusion of those seeking an education in the public school system today. A knowledge of history and the accomplishments of those who came before is also very important but again the educational system dismisses this as unimportant. But what we can hope for is that at some point in time is that people will want to know their history and will understand the sacrifices of those who came before and those still making sacrifices. And in spite of our warts will come to love this country for the beacon of hope that it was for the rest of the world. Love of country is nothing to be ashamed of and today is our special day to truly enjoy our many blessings of being an american.

"Anchor babies" are a myth!
My pastor's daughter is an immigration lawyer whose last name is DeLeon. Her great-grandfather came from Spain, her great-grandmother is descended from Aztec royalty. My pastor grew up within sight of the Rio Grande, the son of American-born Hispanics of the Baptist persuasion. I got this second-hand from our pastor, but I confirmed it with his daughter via email.

There is no legally binding provision for "anchor babies." If an immigrant on a legal work visa has a child in this country, those children are not automatic American citizens. If they remain in this country until they turn 18, they are afforded greater ease in becoming citizens and if their parents become citizens before the child turns 18, the parents pay petition for their children to become automatic citizens at the same time the parents become naturalized (no oath of citizenship required for the young ones). They are not, however, an anchor that will keep an illegal immigrant in this country. Some INS workers may interpret that because they feel false compassion toward these law-breakers, but the law does not work that way. A child born of an illegal immigrant in this country legally may be deported as an illegal immigrant. A child born of immigrants on a legal work visa that has lapsed may also be deported just as their parents may be.

There is no such thing as an "anchor baby."

Michelle
Your right on and the work you do is needed and appreciated.

My View
An Immigrant I am not--I am a 7th generation American. My family includes signers of the declaration of Independence and drafters of the Constitution. When my immigrant relatives came to this country, they left organized societies and ventured into the unknown to make a life. There were no social programs, no government and no economy. They assisted in building our great nation. Contrast that to today's immigrants--they come here to partake from a full trough of benefits and goods and most importantly they can do it without trepidation. We have a history as a kind nation, a nation with an extended hand, with the porch light on, and a fountain of opportunity. We make only a short list of demands--join us in mind and deed; we will accept you body and soul. Wave a foreign flag in our face and try to change our comfort in culture and language and I will assure you we will become very quickly your enemy and a very formidable opponent. Immigrants would be wise to live under the protection of and not the preyer's dive of the American Eagle.

National identity
I think a nation is defined primarily by three things: Its borders, its language, and its culture. All three are under attack in the USA. Unfortunately, many of our elected leaders participate in all of these attacks. What other major nations refuse to defend their borders? Look at the situations in those nations that have embraced mindless multiculturalism and many languages. Chaos! National disintegration. Terrorism! Of course, we could become "one world" without national distinctions. Maybe that's what many of our "leaders" really want.

Sorry, I lied
I was so enlightened by "STORMY'S" blistering and hate filled reply to me. Gee, I am now in the company of Rosie and other conspiracy fruitcakes; oops, I meant that with love!

I just couldn't resist the fear engendered when I discovered that our very sovereignty is just about to disappear. I hope our new leaders such as Chavez will treat us kundly.

Good grief, Charlie Brown, don't trust anyone with the football. (Some of you young innocents may not know who Charlie Brown is. If so, let me know so I can educate you.)

Lighten up, folks; The United States is safe as long as we understand what the meaning of the word "united" is and how we can best keep it that way. (Oh, boy, I just put my foot in my mouth, "united" means locking the doors and not letting any foreign "thougts" enter your minds, watchout for contamination of your thinking processes.)

one more time
Please; try to understand me. My concern is that we must not become a nation of hatred. I never meant to imply that I agreed with the "now dead bill." I'm not enough of a prophet to predict the outcome if it had been passed.

I have seen in these 76 years a change in the general political atmosphere. As I read the various comments about the subject in question, I can't help feeling that the name calling (safe when no one knows who you are) and the anger, towards those who may have a different point of view,is so sad.

I believe that President Bush's (not, by the way,Bushes)position on the need for immigration reform was well known prior to his first election. If you doubt that,I will, when time is available, document this.

As for those who like to quote some of the founding fathers beware, you may not like what you find out.

This is my last post on the Malkin (or is that milking) machine; I will not pay homage to someone who is so close minded that no dialogue is possible. I can think for myself, and I enjoyed the responses (well, to some extent) to my rambling message, but I will not fail to challenge anyone who espouses hatred no matter how much they (she) are/is adored by lost sheep.

How many of you remember the Whiffenpoof Song?

Just curious; and maybe we all take ourselves just a bit too serious; smile and say hello to all you meet, it may make you feel just a little better (not bitter!).

__Hamilton,and others, advocated to incorporate many different types of power to govern this nation.Studied different forms of government, and how those governments affected, and enabled, its societies needs. These men were determined to create a lasting government of unity. Michelle quoted Hamilton according to a proven fact that has enabled this countries prosperity. Your quote of Hamilton has no power to negate the truths of Michelle's quote,as it is of speculation. His argument to create an aristocracy went out the window, has a Republic was found to be the most stable form of government, over a small society,or over a large society.A nation with a society of people united, with like mind,to build a strong nation.Your right,"assimilation doesn't happen in a day.", but the desire does.Without the desire to conform,or with forced conformation, assimilation is of no consequence,as there is need. Those that enter America illegally will never have the need to assimilate when secular governing powers fail to assimilate to this Republics unifying doctrine.

What part of "Lawfully" do you not understand?
Are you schooled at all in anything?

On a more serious note
An American, Joey Chestnut, just reclaimed the annual Coney Island hot dog eating contest trophy by beating the defending champion from Japan, with a record 66 dogs in 12 minutes. OUCH!! Bring on the Pepto-Bismol.

Great to have the trophy back in the good ole USA where it belongs!!

Wow, Roberto!
Telling riposte! I'm cut to the quick, I'm sure!

Dude, on the intellectual seas, you're like Richard Dreyfus in "Jaws"; you need a bigger boat.

Serious assimilation
In an effort to demonstrate their commitment to assimilation, the Hispanic community in California sponsored an event which is uniquely American. They held a 4th of July eating contest. The winner put down 54 tacos and walked away with 10,000 pesos.

Go ahead
and hate your way into irrelevancy.

Wait, that has already happened, never mind.

Oh yeah,
Great article MM!

From one of your mind-numbed robots in Sector G,

The Plumber (doing a job that no American will do in ten years)

SCOTUS wrong
I'll bet every politician who voted for the 14th would be appalled at the Plyler decision. The majority opinion reads like it was written by a representative of La Raza. That's what happens when the majority of the SCOTUS is leftists instead of Constructionists.

And to those of you who don't like MM, or cast dispersions on those of us who do, why don't you try to attack the article? Oh wait! Never mind, it's because she quotes the Founders.

It is certainly the case that leftists hate the Founders of this country more than they hate MM.

Roberto
Again, you don't have a clue what you're talking about as to the amendment, it's very obvious; all you have is blather in poorly phrased grammar. As always, you misstate facts and history, and your interpetation of "jurisdiction" as having anything to do with being at jeopardy in the court system must be something you "thought" up on the fly. It's certainly at odds with what I learned in Con Law. You should do some research on the legal definitions of words, and the contemporary context of their meanings when amendments were written; that's the determinative factor in correct interpretation and application.

As to your latest story about being the designated examiner on jumbos, etc., I'm eagerly awaiting your tales of your space missions on the Shuttle.

When can we expect that?

Michelle
Your article is thought provoking to say the least. Assimilation into our Country, our values, language, etc is what it should be about. Unfortunately its not! Keep up the good work & happy Independence Day to you & your family

Uh, Michelle Honey .....
In gushing over Alexander Hamilton, you evidently forgot that he also advocated that only landowners and the wealthiest white male citizens be permitted to vote. He was hell bent on creating a new American aristocracy to replace the British aristocracy we had just fought so hard to get rid of.

Remember, we had a huge country to settle so everyone was welcome provided you had a strong back and could pay for passage across the Atlantic. Gee just think no visas, no passports, no green cards to worry about. From the very beginning of American immigration was critical in populating America and the vast frontier of the West which we acquired either by treaty or through war. Did you know that the state of Georgia was originally a penal colony where England dumped its criminals? It wasn't easy--almost all newcomers were treated with disdain and contempt by those who were already there.

Assimilation doesn't happen in a day. Believe it or not the original purpose of the public schools from about the post civil war era to World War II was to teach children of immigrants how to become good American citizens!

So the immigration or amnesty bill is dead. Now what? You don't have a clue, do you?

Michelle
The "A" word (assimilation) should apply only to those here legally.

To those here illegally the "D" word (deportation) should apply.

And to those planning to try and come here the "BS" words (border security) should apply.

Oh, and to those in the U.S. that employ illegals the "F" word (fines [big ones]) and if need be the "S" word (seizure [of business assets]) and the "J" word (jail) should apply.

As for the idea of big fines for business that employ illegals I say it should be equal to the calculated costs of each illegal on our society. Lets use the numbers from this report; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BW0jjhGXVg&watch_response

397 billion in annual costs
17.7 million "low skilled" households (this is close to the estimated 20 million illegals so I'll use this number)

divide 397 billion by 17.7 million and you get.....
22429.37 dollars annually per household

The above is based on households, so I'd say it would be fair to fine a company 75 to 100 thousand dollars per employed illegal since the average household size is 4 or more people.

Wrong again, Roberto
There's a reason the "jurisdiction" aspect is in the amendment, otherwise the 14th Amendment would simply read: "All those born within the borders of the United States are citizens".

illegal
I'm sure the biggest majority of Americans feel that they are law abiding citizens. They go to work, pay their taxes, drive the speed limit, pay a fine if they don't, send their kids to school, or home school. They say the Pledge of Allegiance when it's appropriate, and sing the National Anthem. The Constitution allows us to pretty much do as we please.
I fear that those who are anti anything and everything conservative have not read the definition of the work ILLEGAL lately. If not, here goes,
1. not lawful; against the law; forbidden by law;
2. not according to official regulations.
Now if these people came into this country in a way that is contrary to our laws, then they are, by definition criminals, because the definition for crime, is, 1. An act that is against the law. 2. the activity of criminals; violation of law.
We can come to no other conclusion than they must be deported, they've broken the law, and must have a period of time lapse before they could apply to enter the U.S. legally.

Okay, Roberto, it's obviously
time for your daily correction from me, it seems.

What I wrote about the 14th Amendment happens to be correct, particularly as to the history and original intent, and your saying otherwise means nothing, about along the lines of your faux pas yesterday on Cert and the day before on FYs.

You evidently know nothing, learn a word or phrase and decide to use it without ever bothering to learn the meaning or do any research.

Further, most of what you wrote is unintelligible gobbledygook. You need to learn English, bud.

You constantly claim to be a pilot. I'll tell you what, if what you write here is an example of your reasoning abilities, I'd hate to be in a plane with you when you're trying to shoot an ILS back course, or fly an ADF approach to minimums. Sounds like a suicide mission to me.

And, yeah, Roberto. I AM a pilot. A REAL one.

Robert
Blacks, as a race, have benefited from affirmative action, whether as individuals or as a group. Are you are saying that ALL blacks today who believe affirmative action has outlived its usefulness should keep their mouths shut or risk being called a hypocrite? That is absurd. Like Malkin, blacks had no control over the situation which they were born into. Once reaching adulthood, one is not beholden to the old system and fearing the labels of hypocrite, racist, Uncle Tom or not-black-enough.
