Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

How many times have you sat in front of the television over the last four years, watching anti-war activists march on Washington, chase the ROTC off your local college campus, vandalize war memorials, insult the troops and wreak havoc under the surrender banner?

How many times have you thought to yourself: What can I do?

Here is the answer: Get off the sofa and join the Gathering of Eagles on March 17 in Washington, D.C. On that day, well-funded, celebrity-studded anti-war groups plan to march to the Pentagon on a protest route that will take them past the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and climax in calls for immediate withdrawal of our troops from Iraq, destruction of America's "global military machine," shutdown of the enemy combatant detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay and impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney (plus an end to "colonial occupation" in "Palestine, Haiti and everywhere" for good measure).

Last time the left-wing, peace-loving fun bunch came to town, their minions gone wild threw rocks at a military recruitment office in D.C's Dupont Circle neighborhood and at a local Fox News van, broke through a Capitol Hill police security cordon, spray painted the Capitol Grounds with impunity, desecrated the Lone Sailor statue that stands watch at the U.S. Navy Memorial and reportedly spat at disabled Iraq war veteran Josh Sparling as he voiced his support for his fellow troops.

There were tens of thousands of anti-war demonstrators at that event last month. You know how many showed up with Sparling to counter the far Left? Forty.

Now, imagine our troops getting word of that count. They're walking the talk, committed to the long, hard mission of counterinsurgency in Iraq and abroad, risking life and limb -- and only 40 of their fellow Americans bothered to represent them in the nation's capital?

The Gathering of Eagles, an impromptu coalition of veterans' groups, pro-military organizations and Internet activists, wants to right the wrong. "We are a non-violent, non-confrontational group. We look to defend, not attack. Our focus is guarding our memorials and their grounds," they explain. "We believe in and would give our lives for the precious freedoms found in our Constitution. We believe that our freedom of speech is one of the greatest things our country espouses, and we absolutely hold that any American citizen has the right to express his or her approval or disapproval with any policy, law or action of our nation and her government in a peaceful manner as afforded by the laws of our land."

What the Eagles will not stand for, however, are "violence, vandalism, physical or verbal assaults on our veterans, and the destruction or desecration of our memorials. By defending and honoring these sacred places, we defend and honor those whose blood gave all of us the right to speak as freely as our minds think."

Sgt. Artie Muller, founder of Rolling Thunder, the POW/MIA advocacy group, has called on his 80-plus chartered chapters to turn out. Move America Forward, the grass-roots, non-profit, pro-military charity, is launching a caravan from California March 8 to join the Eagles and will bring flags from across the country for the event. The Nam Knights will be there, too. Bill Devereaux, a member of the South Jersey Viet Nam Vets Association, wrote to tell me he had "appropriated a bus on which 40 of our members will be attending the event."

Daniel McPeters, an Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom veteran, e-mailed that "at least a dozen of my brothers will be attending this vigil of necessity and representing those not able to be present. This has needed to happen for 30-plus years. Anyone that supports our troops and their cause should try to make it out, or contact their local Veterans post and spread the word. The silent ones need not be silent any more."

Cindy Sheehan has responded to the Eagles by deriding them on the Gold Star Families for Peace website as "Rightest [sic] America Haters" who are "brainwashed and propagandized."

The question isn't, "What can I do to respond to the Sheehanistas?" The question now is, "What will you do?"

Get off the darned sofa and show your support. March 17. Washington, D.C. Find out more at www.gatheringofeagles.org.

What if I can't go?
Michelle,
Give us an alternative for those of us who cannot attend.

Is there some way we can contribute money to help or that others may go?

Marc of CA
If you click on the link Michelle provides at the end of the column. It will take you to all the information anyone needs. I'm going to try and be there myself. But if something interferes with that I will donate money to the effort.

Damn!
I'm going to have to revisit this column tomorrow. I think I'm going to try to make it ... Man, one long trip from LA.

A similar event at UMass Amherst
On Thursday, March 8th, there will be a similar rally in protest of (amongst other things) harassment of the ROTC recruiter here.

See http://www.umassgop.org

And to those of you in the military reading this - and I know that folk in Afganistan and Iraq have internet access - please note that not all of the college students are opposed to you. We don't always come out and say it, but most of us support you and please be safe and come home and use your GI benefits to help us take back these hostile neighborhoods as well.

Clarification - PRO ROTC rally!

Poor choice of words -- we are going to protest the protesters. Counter-protest I guess.

We'll probably draw every dirty hippie within 50 miles to protest us but we are going to make this stand anyway...

Love the idea and will support it fully
However, one comment: Maybe it would be nice if this time or next time, those who CAN'T go to washington COULD go to their local war memorial. Spend the day or whatever part of it they can

It may not seem to be much, but just maybe there would be more support than anyone thinks. Consider what it would do to the MSM to have to report NO MEMORIAL WAS ALONE.

I'm Going!
Finally... a gathering that will bring back the old days for me, but this time I'll be on the "Right" side of the issue... gives me a chance to make amends for my youthful indiscretions! :-)

HEY EON! If you read this and would be interested in attending, post a comment and I'll figure out how to communicate off-thread.

Let's make this so big it cannot be ignored by the MSM!!!!!

Primus54

All
Please attempt to attend. I will be coming off of a road trip then but will attempt to be there.

Defence Of America
I am already planning to be there at daybreak, and stand a post the full day. Problem is these scumbags will be tagging and vandalizing during the hours of darkness, before and after the rallies. This is not a single event issue, these acts of vandalism are on going and widespread. Look around the cities you live in, start reading what is scrawled on buildings and equipment and sidewalks. Pay attention to what these America hating scumbags are doing all over the nation, not just in DC.

more info Michelle- be there!!
I just had to give a shout about this! I am in NC and trying to find as many people as possible to get there. MoveAmericaForward(.org) is planning a cross-country trek from CA to DC. They'll be coming to my state the Thursday before the event for a rally...then to Richmond, Then Walter Reed to set-up a "Flag City" and of course, Saturday will be on the Mall. Maybe, if enough TH go, can meet for a cocktail or dinner?
Rolling Thunder has many chapters, too and will be there.
I am telling you the Conservative Base is going to be oout in force!

Go here at OldWar Dogs and scroll to the poem by a vet...

http://www.oldwardogs.us/2007/03/you_aint_gonna__1.html

Sorry..
I got so excited at the Title...I didn't bother to read...she already says what I did...

Primus54
Exactly the way I feel. I attended many demonstrations on the wrong side way back when, but I still long to demonstrate. I'm always amazed that people on the right are so reluctant to do this, so I strongly support these efforts.

It's Sebring Week
the first race of the ALMS season and I'm already committed to be there on that weekend. The next time they hold an event like this, which I suspect was timed to coincide with Spring Break (or Easter Break as we used to call it), maybe they could think of having it at another time.

I will be supporting the troops and those who support and defend them with my prayers and hope to be there next time.

In a wheelchair
Recovering from surgery, but I'm going to be there, unless a church conflict comes up.

Kimberly
Once again you show your abject stupidity in no uncertain terms.

What we are GOING there for is to make sure that scumbags, such as yourself, don't spit on vets, deface OUR memorials, or perform other acts of abject moonbattery.

I myself, PRAY TO GOD that a moonbat gets out of line in front of me. It'll be worth paying a fine for knocking the pizz out of them and guess what, when it comes to talking my way out of trouble, the Irish gift of gab, does the trick.

Not to mention that most cops are vets! haha.

All, I'm carpooling up with a crew from Richmond!

LET'S ROLL! NO EXCUSES!

Through the looking glass
Dimwit Cindy calls people America haters and brainwashed.

Wow.

Talk about projection.

Yes, she's back
I don't know why Kimbat hates MM so. probably because she's more attractive and more successful (just a guess, Kim, don't get your panties in a wad). There's nothing I would like better than to join our troops in Iraq. I can't think of anything that would give me more absolute pleasure than killing a bunch of ragheads, not even bi*ch-slapping Kim. I did my time in Vietnam, and there were many more Kims back then, spewing the same inane BS, so Lady Kim isn't original. She enjoys the freedoms maintained for her by others, but refuses to support those who do so. Al of the benefits, none of the work.

Kim, I have a suggestion for you. If you don't think that killing the people who want to kill us is a good idea, then give us your ideas about what we should do. Do you seriously believe that if we stop killing them they will give up their efforts to kill us? If you do, you are too stupid for further discussion. So, what should we do, miss expert-on-how-the-world-should-be-run? Please, we await your superior thoughts. Don't just complain about Michelle, offer some solutions.

Read the article Kimmy!
It said they are DEFENDING the memorials, not preventing the march. As for lack of proof of vandalizing. Did you not READ where it said the recruitment center was vandalized? Here it is again:

"Last time the left-wing, peace-loving fun bunch came to town, their minions gone wild threw rocks at a military recruitment office in D.C's Dupont Circle neighborhood and at a local Fox News van, broke through a Capitol Hill police security cordon, spray painted the Capitol Grounds with impunity, desecrated the Lone Sailor statue that stands watch at the U.S. Navy Memorial and reportedly spat at disabled Iraq war veteran Josh Sparling as he voiced his support for his fellow troops. "

...read it and weep. We all did. STFU...how eloquent you are. Freedom of speech, but only for you eh Kimmy?

Monkey
Again, you are a sanctimonious monkey. You are all smoke and mirrors and you only lie in wait to spew anything you can...You don't support the troops in all your claims, because if you did, you wouldn't sh*t on the fact that we go to the Hill to protecting the freedoms of our fallen and those fightingfrom the people who don't apparently appreciate the rights afforded them. of this Country like yourself. We are peaceful about it and we shout no abscenities like your comrades. But, don't worry. I will try my best to come back with the proof of how they act. And then you can put your money in your sanctimonious monkey a** and STFU.

Kimberly, again
The spray painting of the Capitol Steps was well covered at the time. Along with a few (unconfirmed) reports that the Capitol Police were ordered, yes that's right, ordered not to prevent defacement of government property.

As I recall, that is a violation of Federal Code and in the Service can get you up to a year of making small rocks out of big rocks (Art 108, UCMJ, IIRC)...

FYI: I have been to Iraq twice and Afghanistan at least 6 times since 2004.

Kimberly
I am a Marine officer, 23 years commissioned service, 4 enlisted and very much one of the "Malkineesta's" you show such contempt for. Tell me again how I, and other service members who support TH, have not put our money where or mouths are. It would be easy just to tell you to shut your soup suck. However, I am not insulted by your remarks as I have placed my life on the line to ensure all Americans have the right to free speech, no matter how stupid. Sad that you and others on the left don't exhibit the same tolerance. Thank God we live in a nation where you will not be hunted down, your family tortured and killed, for presenting a dissenting view.

GunnyG: Never stand between a Gunny and his mission. Give 'em hell on the 17th Guns!
Semper fi.

Nee
Great idea. I will have my dig cam there to record the idiots.

GunnyG
Your response to Kimberly beat me to it. She has said some really stupid things in the past. But this ranks as one of her most ignorant. As many times as we Vet's have posted here, and addressed her directly. She has the audacity to overlook the fact that we have fought, and many of us wounded. To protect the freedom she now enjoys and abuses!

I will be there! And like you Gunny, I hope to Christ the Moonbats start something. And I also hope that the Liberals posting here show up. It will be a great chance to kick some Liberal Butt!

More chicken-hawk
I see we have at least two threads running today in which the libtards have resumed the discredited “Chicken-hawk” meme. Since this political statement is supposed to be about a politician who supports a war without ever having been in the military, lets follow that logic.

First off Kimmy, none of us here are politicians, therefore this meme does not apply to us. Second off, most of us here are veterans, therefore the meme does not apply to us. And then third off, lets apply that same logic to the libtards:

1. Anti-US peace vermin = liberal activist who protests and demonstrates for peace but only against the US.

2. Chikensh*t econut = liberal politician who advocates for anti-global warming policies when they live in a house using 200K kw-hrs per year and fly private jets all over the world.

3. Commie-cat = socialist activist who believes that all money should be theirs to distribute as they see fit.

4. Troll-o-bat = liberal DU character who likes to post at TH.

ColMac
Sir, count on it. I'm coming off of a two week TDY and unless OBE, I plan to carpool up with some folks in the AM on the 17th.

Semp Fi. We rock, the left sucks.

and, lest I forget and Ode
"Screaming Monkey Syndrome" (Kimberly, et al, now- as described by GunnyG)

That is, they arrive...

they scream loudly...

flail about spectacularly...

flings poop in every direction...

and then retires to the cave...

And my poem of understanding the "Screaming Monkey Syndrome"(by Nee, revised)

See the monkeys in the cave,
all night waiting to rant and rave
Will they screech, will they scream
We know they will, but we can dream
See the monkeys in the cave,
Oooh to scream and rant and rave!

To GunnyG
In answer to your question from the other thread, I will be down in GA this weekend attending my brother's daughter's wedding. Give'm some for me.

Goshawk
I'm pumped up. Gonna have to dig our my "colors" for this one.

Yeah, it would be something if the libs started a little melee. But being the cowards they are, they only do their crap in the dark of the night or when they are superior in number.

All,
Anyone see that awesome video of Kim's Church, the Baptist Cult from Kansas who protest GI's funerals, getting chased and nearly killed by ONE ANGRY CROWD? It was on ogrish in December.

No more silent majority libs, this time, you're gonna PAY for spitting on us.

Patriotic March to Washington

.....Michelle ...thanks for your good work ...

.....another group called "These Colors Don't Run" also plans to counter demonstrate against the anti-war wussies on March 17 in Washington D.C. ....for more info go to http://moveamericafoward.org .....COLOSSUS

MICHELLE, A Request
Ms. Malkin...
We pro-American people are having a tough time getting media coverage locally in NC where MAF, RT, GOE paln to rally on Thursday the 15th.
ABC was asked to cover this. The response was over our dead bodies...Is there anything you can do, so that our side is portrayed fairly? Last time I rallied where the Sheehag was,I was interviewed plenty, but not one conservative person was shown on the news or in paper. Just a thought that you have bigger strings to pull than I. Thanks for your time.

Patriotic March to Washington
I plan on attending and will bring a camera for the purpose of recording what happens.

Protesters to spray Vietnam Memorial
I did not see in the article where the anti-war protesters plan to spray the Vietnam Veterans memorial, just a they spray painted the capitol steps.

I understand from the Internet that the protesters will deface the memorial.

Kimba
And your idea of getting your "word" out is to descerate war memorials?? Those same memorials erected to honor those who gave the utimate scarifice so that your kind can do whatever it is you do? You contribute NOTHING to this country and your ignorance is overwhelming.
If your kind can protest, well, seems like it's still a free country, we can counter-demonstrate.
Of course, many of us hold down jobs, which is another thing your kind don't do.
Who will be there on your side Kim, limo liberals? It will probably be the Hollywood crowd who know absolutely nothing about what it's like to be an average, working American. What gives them the right to tell us how to think and feel. For God's sake Kim, it's the same crowd I remember from the Vietnam era. A bunch of do nothings.

GunnyG
I won't be vacationing this summer due to work constraints but an early spring jaunt to D.C. sounds like a great idea. It would be an honor to watch your six while you take care of business.

Vic
Great post. These protesters seem to only have a problem with their own country. Many embrace dictators like Chavez and Castro. Not a Chicken-Protester word about the supression of women and freedom in the Muslim world.

Let's add another hypocrisy-Chicken Slavery Protestors. All they want to do is beat up our country for this shameful practice but ignore many things. First, other Africans were selling their fellow men. Second, the US was one of the first to put a stop to this shameful practice. Most importantly, slavery still goes on today in Africa. Where is the outcry? We all know why we don't hear anything. This is black on black slavery so no one can cry racism and the liberals like STD Kim cannot get her fill of white guilt from this.

Kims Church
This is a good example of religion run wild - they were down in Belton a few months ago but could not get very close to the funeral - there was a big group of VFW and/or bikers there and although there was no violence it got testy - where these shetballs get their money to travel all over the states is beyond me - although I watch FOX news almost exclusively I never heard of these creeps desecrating monuments - the bottom line is that they have the right to protest and so do the folks that don't agree with them - generally speaking folks that protest things from abortion to the war need to get a life

Gunny G
By your colors I hope you don't mean your blues - protesting anything in uniform is a no-no

STD Kim-Group Think
When Clinton bombed the hell out of Yugoslavia, where were all of you? Oh, that's right, your rapist hero got us into that one so that's just fine. But a Republican threatens action and you guys hit the streets. Now that is hypocrisy and group think. No SANE human being can argue that Milosevic was more of a threat to us than Saddam was. WHY WERE YOU NUTCASES NOT OUT IN THE STREETS THEN?

On Kimberly
Again never wrestle with a pig cause the you get dirty and the pig gets happy - not worth a response anyway - she is pulling your collective chains

Re: Spray-painting the Capitol steps
Dash42,

The Capitol Police got their instructions not to interfere with this blatant vandalism from Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

One other comment.

Is this how libs "Support the troops but not the war"? By desecrating the memory of troops who gave their lives? (Special note to Charlie Rangel: most of the names on the Wall are of guys who were DRAFTED)

ROTC
For all the creeps that would protest ROTC on any campus - one it is the right of the students that want to participate in ROTC to do so - two it is and always has been the main source of commissioning officers in the Armed Forces - remember LT Calley??? high school drop out that went to Officers Candidate School because we were scrapping the bottom of the barrel and of course that is where the scum resides

God Bless everyone in their travels
I really hate that I cannot be there, but we had already made plans to visit family. I would have brought my home-schooled children to show them what REAL patriotism is.
I pray that all of you traveling to this "event" have God's traveling mercy and that "force" will not be necessary.
To all those posters who served gallantly for the United States of America, I say THANK YOU! It's never enough, but it's from the heart. I'm an Army brat, my father went to Viet Nam, but helped put people back together, and not on the lines. My family had many who served, and still do, so I guess that's why I cry when I hear the National Anthem, from pride, not anger.
God be with you.

Response to KimBat
> Kimberly writes: Get off the couch, suit
> up and join the troops in Iraq.

It isn't sexy, but when the fire department is fighting a fire, someone has to run the pumper. You don't see that person on the 11 PM news but if he isn't there, there isn't any water in those hoses for the other guys to use.

Someone has to stand home and defend the homefront. Someone has to protect the base that is supporting our troops oveseas. Someone has to stand up to lying treasonous scum like you.

When WW-II started, all the Welsh coal miners wanted to volunteer to go fight Hitler. It got so bad that Churchill had to go up to the mines and plead with them to fight the war by staying in the mines as without coal, Britain could no fight. So too here.

Kimberly's lunacy knows no bounds.......
What is up with this traitor. I've never heard anyone who hates their country so much - except maybe Ted Kennedy.

Kimberly, if you hate America so much...move to Tehran. You would get to dress like a penguin and spout anti American baloney 24 - 7.

Gathering of Eagles
Eagles are souring from Canada, Europe, Hawaii and all points in between....this event may dwarf the anti-war/anti-America crowd...they are running scared.......they feel the talons closing...as someone has penned..."Gathering of Eagles will be the "woodstock of Patriots" for decades to come.......

Caravans from California (www.moveamericaforward.org ), Florida, North East...motels are fillingl up...the time is right....the time is now..."We will". Our Canadian brothers and sisters will be attending.....over 100 Canadian names on the Vietnam Wall.....

We are non-confrontation, non-violent, but there will be protection of our hallowed Memorials...the desecration, vadalism, and destruction demonstrated at the US Capitol last month by anti-war elements will not be tolerated...it will stopped, it will not happen at the Memorials that reflect honor to our fallen.

Let it be clear, Gathering of Eagles has no intention to interfere, disturb, or resist the anti-war march to the pentagon.....freedom of expression is what we fought and died for...so all have that freedom....but freedom is not extended to desecration, damage, dishonor of historic locations or hallowed ground of our memorials...blood cries out from our fallen for protection...we won't allow what happened to our Vietnam warriors or their Memorial Wall be a proxy to attack, demoralize, nor urge defeat of our warriors in harms way.

It should also be understood that we disagree in the strongest terms with the anti-war "hate America" venom and the defeatist message they spew...there is another view in America and it will evident on March 17 2007 for all of America to witness to include the leadership in Washington, D.C....America will be lifted up with honor, our troops will be supported, and our Memorials protected.

Take a look at http://www.gatheringofeagles.org for information on the event and how to contribute.

Remember, Gathering of Eagles is an event not an organization...we have not had two years to plan, no main stream media coverage, no committees to deal with the task, no major advertising campaign...it's been brought to America by grass roots,a couple talk shows and now Michelle Malkin.....God bless her for her faithfulness to our nation, our troops, and protection of our Memorials.

"We Will"........eagles soaring.

Harry Riley, COL, USA, Ret
Gathering of Eagles Co-Coordinator

Pirate
Excellent!! The monkey is probably waiting to see if one of her comrades posts so she can come back and spew more hate...Too bad Sawgunner and Loyal Democrat aren't around...

By the by,
That weekend would be St. Patty's Day. We'd probably have to find a nice pub to slake the mighty thirst we'd undoubtedly work up by the end o' the day.

I will be there!
I recieved notification about this awhile back and had considered going. I have finalized that today....I will be there. It's my turn having suffered the embarassment of having Dog Feces thrown at me at Ft. Lewis, Washington upon my return from Vietnam. I will be there to protect the Vietnam Veterans Memorial from the likes of Hanoi Jane. Onward to Washington!

Kimberly....want me to pick you up?

Lynne....you gonna be there?

Gunny and all the other Vets on this page....hope to see you there!

Honor and Courage

Airborne! All the way!

For those planning on traveling
This site may give you some good ideological ammo to take:

http://www.protestwarrior.com/

Wish I could go too.
Health prevents me from leaving.
It would not be good for me to be that close to treasonous enemy collaborators anyway.
I would be more liability than asset.

Think on the bright side;
It is good that America's enemies within show themselves to be photographed and identified.

All these subversives should be investigated and dealt with just like the American Nazi Bund during WW2

Gunny G
I might still have an article about the Lone Sailor statue that is pretty interesting....at least to an old squid... If I do I will send it over to your blog.

Would love to attend
but will likely be back in Southwest Asia supporting our troops...

Here's my take Kimmy
Kimberly's hatred for America is so great that she denigrates our troops even though it is they that give her the right to say the crap she does. But that is okay because she has a right to her opinion in America. You insult our intelligence and desicrate out right to protest the protestors.

You know, if I could go to Iraq and Afghanistan to support our troops, I would. I am ashamed of myself Kim, and here's why. I had an opportunity to go to the Navy when I was just out of high school and enrolled in an auto-body program in Vocational School. According to the recruiter, I most likely would have been assigned to a carrier repairing sheet metal on planes and helicopters shot up or damaged. Looking back, I wish I had have enlisted as right about then, the first Gulf War started and I would have had something to be proud of: I would have served my country in our time of need.

I cannot serve now as in 1992, I had an accident that left me a T-4 through T-8 paraplegic and now I can never serve in a role that supports my country in such a way. So now you come in here and tell these fine folks that they cannot go to Washington D.C. because in you opinion, and that the only way to support troops is to go serve with them in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Well something that inane moonbats galore might not want to admit, but some of these people that would love nothing more to than to serve alongside our brave soldiers. However, the only way to support them is to protest the protesters in D.C. on the 17th of March. Besides, someone has to support our troops at home because spineless twerps that protest the military ain't got the good sense God gave a goose when they vandalize the memorials that commemorate the fallen that give moonbats the right to protest the very system that protects that right. To me, the people I see protesting the military are less civil than the troops. I just saw the video on You Tube about some liberal weenies protesting a Recruiting station and they have adopted terrorist tactics in wearing bandannas to cover their face so that they cannot be recognized by video surveillance later. These thugs are no better than the terrorist we are fighting against now.

I am going to be perfectly honest with you now Kimberly. I said earlier that I am ashamed that I didn't serve in the first Gulf War. I am more ashamed now because I am unable to serve, simply because this war is more important that that one was. Why? Because we are fighting the terrorists there so that we don't have to fight them here at home. The war is that simple. If they weren't there fighting and Bush hadn't made this a pre-emptive strike in Iraq, there is no telling how many more 9-11's we would have here on our own soil.

Clinton made us out to be "paper tigers" in Osama Bin Laden's eyes in our withdrawal of Mogadishu. If we withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan, we are cowards and the Radical Islamic Terrorists will eventually be permeating our freedoms, and yes the freedom of people like you Kimberly, who say we should surrender at all costs.

I would love to be in D.C. to protest the protesters, but I will have to do it from home. I hope you understand.

Michelle is not one of my favorites
I don't like Michelle because she is inflammatory with her rhetoric and loose with her facts.

The image and description of returning soldiers and disabled vets being spat on is highly inflammatory. If it happens, by all means, shoot the SOB. I'll hold your coat and point the cops in the other direction.

Sparling was the disabled war vet "reportedly spat at" during the peace demonstration. Wikipedia relates the incident and it appears clear that he was not "spat at". Any verbal interaction during the "incident" was not reported.

It is my hope that those committed to the "Gathering of Eagles" have a huge turnout and that sunshine patriots don't dampen the turnout.

War protests
Just because the war protestors use deploreable tactics does not make this war a noble cause or something that should not be protested against. If this war was supposed to rally the world to fight against Islamic Extremism it has not worked because before we got bogged down in the war in Iraq, Bush presented the idea that we should fight the terrorist around the world and enlist all the help we could get. The war in Iraq has succeeded in isolating us from any allies and blown a smokescreen over the real issue of Global Jihadism. And though an unprovoked attack against a sovereign nation was the first charge against the Nazis at the Nuremberg trials, if you impeached Bush you would also have to impeach most of the Congress who joined him in this collosal mistake. The best policy would be to get out as soon as we can and formulate a new plan to stop Global Jihad.

Memorials
I can't make it to Washington that Saturday, but I plan to put a wreath or some flowers on the John Basilone statue in Raritan, NJ.

Gotta do something.

Barry

Prof,
No one's trying to yank anyone's first ammendment rights. The anti-war folks have the right to say whatever they want. They don't have to deface memorials to our war dead to voice their opinion.
As for rallying the allies, we haven't had an ally outside the Brits and the Aussies for decades, but we always seem to be called upon when someone else needs us to save their butts. This war is no different. We'll do the fighting and dying so the Frances, Germanys and Russias of the world can continue to throw crap at us.

ProfGene - while I agree that
protests should be non-violent and reasoned, the 'protesters' that will be there are likely to be neither.

As to your implication that the invasion of Iraq was 'unprovoked', may I remind you of the USS Stark which was attacked by an Iraqi pilot in 1987 killing 30-some sailors? No? How about the daily, yes DAILY, violations of the 1991 cease-fire agreement? Again, no?

I take it this is to be an intel/police war against al Qaeda only? No...then what do you suggest?

We are there now; let's get this mission done and then move on to the next bit. This is a battle in the WOT, despite what the Left would have us believe.

Tehran Kim
You have now reached the point of being absolutely insolent and disrespectful in the extreme.

You are a lying, hateful & totally crazed moonbat shill whom I am certain would be scared to her toes to attend this event and even THINK about saying out loud the rant you dumped here today.

So, for me, and I hope the "regulars" here at TH, you are now a total non-entity. I will never respond to you again and will skip over any post that has your moniker.

It is time for YOU to STFU!! ("not to put too fine a point on it"). Go fling your dung somewhere else.

No, my old riding colors amigo.

Matthew
So you think it's funny that only 40 of us showed up? How cute.

Gee, couldn't it be that the far left DOESN'T HAVE FRIGGING JOBS to go could it?

Now go back to your PS2 little boy. The adults are talking here.

making statements
Looking forward to St. Patty's day. Getting tired of watching Soros' scumbag mercenaries mutilate property and traditions.

Lynne
Not nicer, no; just didn't feel like dropping to the level of idiocy displayed by Kimmy and co today. Gots to pack and so forth...

No doubt Kimmie will defend those who would throw HIV-tainted blood on our warriors as free expression - rather than attempted murder. No doubt also she is of the opinion that it is the Courts and the Anti Constitutional Litigation Unit that have defended our freedoms better and more effectively than have our soldiers.

She's just a depressing idiot this morning...

Once Again the "Sleeping Giant" Awakens
This particular event brings great joy to my heart because I have long felt that what happened or didn't happen after Vietnam was a well organized effort to demoralize America's spirit to fight for the freedoms we have.

Well, to those who thought you were home free in your efforts to destroy the American Spirit, look again because the "Sleeping Giant" is once again awake.

America is going to bring her "ship of hope" around once again as the unequalled leader of the free world. We are in the beginning stages of showing the world that the American people want peace like everyone else, but we can no longer tolerate the hate mentality which is attempting to portray us as the enemy of the world.

I, for one, will be working toward making the trip to be with my brothers and sisters in Washington, D.C., and I hope, and pray that this effort will, once and for all, let the America Haters know that "we are mad as hell, and we are not going to take it any more."

barry
Please srop a few flowers on his memorial for me. Manila John is one of my personal heroes.

I hope
everyone behaves themselves. Erm, except Gunny. No offence mate but I'd wet myself laughing if you got a few nights in chokey for chinning some hippy.

Make yourselfs ready.
They Democrats will vote the "Am-nasty", and they will have 30 million new Lulac and LaRaza members, they have the msm, they have the A.C.L.U. and they hate themselfs and America.
They will with the useless leadership in Washington D.C. from both the Democrats and the Republicans bring us to a uncivil conflict.
Make yourselfs prepared, its clear someone wants a confrontation, the reasons are not clear why, but they urge it on by acts like the Ramos/Compean trial and the turning loose this crowd of mindless anit-every thing thugs.

There is still the strange moment in time these last years with old man Bush and Clinton on the same golf courses , way to much for it to be social.

If those in leadership in America had the right thing in mind, Lt. Kerry now unSenator Kerry would not be the "horse" who sits a known liar and fraud in OUR U.S. SENATE.
JUDGE THEM BY THEIR ACTIONS NOT WHAT THE PRESS SEC.'S SAY AT 5:00 EACH DAY.

Dear Michele:
It seems like you are attempting to lump everyone together that thinks we should wrap it up in Iraq, shut down the secret prisons, and/or impeach Bush and Cheney, also believe in dishonoring our veterans.

Nice try. Not true, but nice try. I suppose Michele, it all depends upon what you believe those brave soldiers fought and died to defend? The Republican Party? hmmm.... nope. The Democrat Party? hmmm... nope. How about our liberty and our Constitution? Bingo.

Oh, I left off, "an end to "colonial occupation" in "Palestine, Haiti and everywhere" for good measure." Yes, why exactly should we be occupying these countries? It seems to me that we ourselves have a country whose borders are being overrun by illegal aliens while both major political parties sit on their behinds, twiddling their thumbs and telling us that there is nothing they can do. Not to mention an Executive branch who flat out refuses to enforce our immigration laws unless we give the illegal aliens, amnesty. We seem to have no problem thinking we can secure IRAQ's borders, but I guess our very own, don't matter.

Is anyone else sick of this BS? Since when did we start thinking we had the right or duty (not to mention the funds) to be the world's policeman. It's time we got our own house in order and we'd better do it soon, or we're not going to have a house to get in order.

Anyone see...
... the propsed new ambassador to Belgium getting a grilling from Kerry and Obama? Very funny. He'll be lucky to get the Belgian Congo now. Serves him right too. Funnily enough, no mention of it on Townhall. I wonder why?

ps
I'll lay odds, Kimberly is a guy.

$5.00 says, silly little Kos Kids Blog guy thing.

Interesting
How Kim never stays around. I guess she is busy typing some anti-Ann Coulter stuff as we speak. To be honest, has anyone but me considered that "she" is just a computer-generated "reader" designed to generate discussion?

Anyone interested a side bet on whether Kim uses the word "bloviate" in her anti-Coulter rant tomorrow?

Critical Bill
The chokey! haha. No, it's been my experience that hippies usually WON'T do anything unless they have overwhelming numbers.

Funny story tho. On leave in 1983, working at my bud's construction business for a few bucks, some college weenies burned the US flag in front of the construction site over Grenada. Bad move.

My fine for drubbing a hippie was 200.00, summons written on the spot. Money well-spent.

CB
Is it a big story? I doubt if 1 in 100 Americans know who the ambassador to any country is. At least Hanoi John has someone to vent his wrath on.

I think the name "Belgian Congo" went out with Rhodesia, by the way.

Keep Cool
Try not to have any physical confrontations - it would be just what those folks want - however don't turn the other cheek

I see Kimboo has pushed y'alls buttons again - girl knows how to do it - probably has her hand between her legs reading your responses

By the way...
It seems to me that we need a gathering of eagles to stand up for our Constitution and the sovereignty of our nation. Seems to me that this would be the best way to honor those who have bravely given their lives to defend our Constitution and our country.

Don't we at least owe them standing up, while we still can, against those that are subverting our Constitution? Shouldn't we demand that our borders be defended; that our immigration laws be enforced? That our government adhere to the limitations imposed on it by the Constitution? That our country remain sovereign and not rolled into a North American Union? That our dollar stop being devalued through debt and the privately-owned Federal Reserve?

Gunny
So I can look forward to your appearance in the news later on this weekend? Because for sure you lot will be outnumbered. Just like you are in the electorate nowadays.

AZPhil
Wll, if John Kerry getting a chance to question one of the biggest donors to the Swift Boaters is a story, yes, I reckon it's a decent one. I know about the Belgian Congo not existing any more but what else could I have used? The Belgian Waffle? Anyway, sounds like Fox'll get the gig anyway despite being shown to be a weasely little liar...

sardine101
No doubt. But at the outset of hostilities, clearly the fault of the scumbags, we should definately open up that can of whoopazz. They need to be told in no uncertain terms that we're not gonna stand by for their juvenile actions like defacing our monuments.

Liberty
One step at a time... first we must defend the "defenders".

Critical Bill
Quite obviously, you are not a student of history, especially MILITARY history. The Marine Corps has ALWAYS been outnumbered, it just makes us fight all the harder.

BTW, you catch that story out of Costa Rica wherein that 70 year old retired Marine snapped the neck of a TWENTY YEAR OLD Costa Rican mugger? haha. One less scumbag in the world.

"All right, they're on our left,
they're on our right, they're in front of us, they're behind us, the poor b*stards, they can't get away this time."
Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, USMC
Chosin Res, North Korea.

In closing, there will not be a problem unless they start it first. Kinda like when the British marched on us at Lexington and Concord.

CB
As i said, I think the general attitude about who our ambassadors our is a collective yawn, and so is this story.

CB
Thanks for saying Belgian waffle...I hate when people call it a "Belgium waffle". It's about as irritating as "France fry".

BTW, I still think Kimberly is a simulation.

Bastogne 1944
To a Paratrooper Company Commander: "Capt, I hope you know your surrounded." Capt: "Were Paratroopers, we're supposed to be surrounded."

We were completely surrounded and definately a "minority" on 6 May 1969 on LZ Carolyn. They lost!

There will be some on the other side that will want to test us, but the majority won't even be able to look us in the eyes.

Lynne....I agree, we all need to meet somewhere around the Wall. I am so hoping to meet you, the Gunny, and anyone else that makes it.

And to the poster that asked, "when did we become the Policemen of the world?" I'd say around 1917 when the French and the Brits couldn't beat Germany.

To all of y'all who talk with such vigor that we have no business in Iraq. Many said the same about Korea. Ask most Korean War Vets in 1954 if they thought much of Korea. We are now buying cars from them. I'll bet on history.

Honor and Courage
Airborne! All the Way...and then some.

AZPhil
On the contrary, I think Kerry trashed him on the subject of donating money to Swift Boat and I think he tried to squirm his way out of giving an honest answer. It might not be the most thrilling arm of government but selecting your ambassadors is rather important. And I don't care how rich you are, when you give away $50k you generally remember why you did it. From my experience, rich people, especially those who have worked very hard for it, watch where every penny goes.

Sardine101
Thanks for the disgusting visual re: Kimbat's fingers.

I WAS trying to eat lunch.

GunnyG,
Pertaining to one of yesterday's threads, I was under the impression the "dining out" or "Dress Mess" was strictly for servicemembers only, and officers at that.

Lynne
Headed out this week.

Should be able to post from the area though...

Keeping my head down is second nature...

Patriots
We are so lucky to have been born and raised in the best country on earth. I too am an Army brat. My father was on the first wave of Normandy, he went to Korea, and he fought in Viet Nam. He never talked about it, but he teared up everytime he heard the National Anthem. I honored him, as both of my brothers, serve enter in the service of our country. He helped us understand that we had to give back to a nation that provides so much to us. I am honored to have learned about the "Gathering of Eagles". If the MSM happens to cover it. They may actually realize that the "Silent Majority" has had enough. The messages that I read today has been so enjoyable. We can show the moonbats just what it is to "let you voice be heard". God Bless American!!!!!!!!!

MarineDad
No, the MESS NIGHT is for the servicemembers ONLY and the honored guest. This tradition dates back to the 1700's. What is funny is when the Old Man has to taste the Roast Beast and declare it fit for human consumption. (the piece is usually heavily-peppered and tabasco'd!)

The "Dining-In" is for the servicemembers and their guests as well, usually the spouse, but I have seen parents of Marines attend, etc.

VNam69
Already getting the word out on the Jarhead Grapevine.

SOMEONE needs to bring a sign with "TH'ers" on it so we can meet and greet.

Misc
CB: Who gave away $50K?

Marine Dad: I'm in the Air Force, and we have dining-ins and dining-outs. In the former case, only service members are invited; in the latter, we can bring guests. It's easy for me to remember - you have to be IN the military to go to a Dining-IN.

However, the Marine nomenclature may be different. I have several Marine friends and the big thing for them is the USMC birthday every year on 10 Nov.

Thank God and the US military that we live in a country where we have free speech!

Please check my blog (click on my handle) for a LIST of the vermin who will oppose us on the 17th!

Gathering of Eagles
May tens of thousands of Eagles gather. I won't be able to; I'll cheer you on.

I did attend a huge pro-American pro-troops rally in front of the Minnesota State Capitol several years ago. 17,000 of my closest personal friends :) attended. I'd never seen so many American flags in one place before.

Is there any way of getting C-SPAN coverage for OUR side?

Suggestion: Get a bunch of Irish Americans to show by promoting it as an official St. Patrick's Day event. :)

Occupation?
Lynne: "The US has never, never, NEVER occupied any country...NOT EVER! Any country that we have gone into, we have done so to simply stabilize, help them get their own government in place, and leave."

Total dittos, Lynne. I'm watching the Victory at Sea series about WWII. The episode on the liberation of the Phillippines was very moving. After 3 years of horrendous abuse from genuine occupiers--the Japanese--the Filipinos showed their gratitude and relief to their American liberators. This was a microcosm of the history of American interactions with the world. Americans are a genuinely moral people. This fact makes the Hate America Left seethe.

Lynne
Wow, I got you revved up, didn't I.

You said, "The US has never, never, NEVER occupied any country...NOT EVER! Any country that we have gone into, we have done so to simply stabilize, help them get their own government in place, and leave. If we stay, it's because the country as asked us to stay. And, by the way, that includes Iraq!"

Excuse me, Lynne, but you are changing the definition of the word to suit your purposes. We ARE occupying Iraq. Now, you may well believe in said occupation, but it does not change the fact that we are. Furthermore, have you checked into the numbers of troops we have stationed all over the world?

As far as Pelosi and Reid. No, I don't listen to either. In fact, I can't stand them.

Finally, I find it more than curious that you consider my talking about the reason our soldiers fought and died throughout history being the Constitution and our liberty, a "mindless rant". Why is it, Lynne, that you believe we fought wars in the past?

Lynne
"We did not take possession of any of the countries you mentioned. We neither hold nor control, in any way, those countries, nor do we control the policies. In fact, each of those countries, including Iraq, has their OWN GOVERNMENT!"

In most cases, Lynne, we have preferred to install puppets that will do our bidding. That is, until, we decide to dethrone them. Surely, you know this.

tactics against terrorists
The effective types of measures that can be taken when you have cooperation is what was done against Hamas. The banks of Europe and the United States refused to give them any money so they couldn't pay their workers and chaos was created. The biggest thing that needs to be done is for Bush to act on "you are either with us or against us." especially from Islamic nations. They must be pressured to to fight Fundamentalism and support for Islamic Fundamentalism in their own countries, to close down Madrass schools, to stop preaching hatred against Israel to protest against Alcaeda and the like instead of cartoons and the Pope. If we alienate them, we could be facing some 60 countries instead of just a few. Most of all an education of the population, the media, the politicians must take place as to just how dangerous a radicalized Islamic world poses a threat to the peace of the world. The connection between the religion and Jihad should be debated and if there are really Islamic scholars who believe that Osama Bin Laden is wrong then they should speak out loudly and only as loudly as the Palestinian Imams scream in their mosques for more martyrs to kill Israelis. If they don't step forward and speak out against Jihad, then by their silence they support it and they are not with us but against us.

TheLeftisEvil
You said, "This was a microcosm of the history of American interactions with the world. Americans are a genuinely moral people. This fact makes the Hate America Left seethe."

Yes, we fought for the right reasons in WWII and we actually declared war that time. I agree that Americans as a whole used to be a moral people. I'm not so sure anymore.

As far as your comment about the "American left". I really hate to disappoint you, but I'm just about as far from a leftist as you can possibly get. Or, is that the new name for a constitutionalist?

Primus54
You said, "One step at a time... first we must defend the "defenders"."

I agree.

Lynne
Nope. We have for quite awhile taken the approach that it is just fine to go into a sovereign nation, overthrow the government and install a puppet of our choosing. Are you denying this?

Lynne
I saw it. What is your point?

Protecting the monument(s)
One of my Airborne budies, Bill Devereaux, is taking a bus with South Jersey vets to DC. Michelle mentioned him in her article. GREAT GUY and if you ever need help with veterans' issues in New Jersey, he's the man.

Better keep a team at the Korean and WWII monuments, because the "true believers" will deface any monument to show their disdain for the "oppressive, racist, patriachal, capitalist, sexist, imperialist AmeriKKKa." I think I left out part of the moonbat rant, but you get my drift.

Can't make it to the event (niece getting married) but a bunch of my Pershing Rifle brothers (A-12, Northeastern U., Boston) will be in town. I'm sure they'll be there.

As an Army 'Nam vet (REMF at Bien Hoa 71-72 with the 3rd Bde of the Cav) and father of a current Cav man in Iraq (second tour)(his mother is a Gulf War vet), I wish all attendees Godspeed and all my thanks.

And as to Mz Moonbat, the Army will call me back under one of two circumstances: they get real smart or real desperate. And if they do call me back, I want a combat battalion in Iraq (branch doesn't matter, I'm very adaptable as long as I have troops and weapons) and have the senior officers go play golf someplace for a few weeks. I have my "shopping list", I want the battalion scroungers and I give them the admonition I can't put too much bail money on my credit cards, so do be somewhat discrete. My version of "Don't ask, don't tell" is somewhat different than the standard version. ;-)))

Gathering
I'm coming down from Pittsburgh with my wife and a friend who doesn't post but was with the 101st. I'd like to meet many of you (gunny, lynne eon, primus, etc.)to be able to put faces to names. If you do come up with a way to meet, I'd like to hear about it. I check gunny's blog often, so maybe it could be posted there.

Lynne
No problem. All welcome.

We can coordinate our efforts there.

We DEFINATELY need signs and since I may be riding with others, not sure about the room. Those with room, please plan on bringing extra signs and flags if possible.

It looks as though we are gonna have a large turnout. 1 or a million, it'll be worth it.

d`Anconia
No problem. As I posted, we can coordinate our focus of effort there. I'm suggesting that SOMEONE bring a TH sign and stand fast in the AM, preferably around 0630, and WE WILL FIND YOU!

Lynne
The end closest to the Lincoln Mem? Or maybe gather AT the Lincoln mem and head down Henry Bacon towards it in the AM?

I never thought Bush's response to 9/11
would work and still don't. The Soveit Union spent 8 years trying to subdue these fanatics and pulled out with their tail between their legs after losing tens of thousands of soldiers and we ourselves had to withdraw our marines after taking many casulties in Lebanon. And the Israeli experience in Lebanon isn't much better which is why I never had much faith in sending soldiers into the same kind of meatgrinder for no gain.

Which is why I have always advocating breaking out the nuclear weapons wiping whole regions off the face of the earth. I believe General George S. Patton said it best, No basterd ever won a war by dying for their country, he won it by making the other poor dumb basterd die for his country.

That all said, God bless our troops and if I could be there to defend the memorials to our fallen heroes I would.

What are American Leftists?
Liberty asks: "As far as your comment about the "American left". I really hate to disappoint you, but I'm just about as far from a leftist as you can possibly get. Or, is that the new name for a constitutionalist?"

I answer: American Leftists hate the fact that America is the world's hyperpower. They'd prefer Russia, China, France, or anyone else in that role. They despise free enterprise, preferring top-down command economies such as Communism. American Leftists are sorely disappointed when terrorists miss their target: The American Vice President (noted on the Huffington Post, until those truly Evil Leftist comments were pulled down earlier). American Leftists cheer on our terrorist enemies' atrocities and shriek obscenities at American defenders and allies. American Leftists are thorough-going traitors. I could go on and on. Suffice it to say, my on-line name is an understatement.

Victory at Sea
Lynne said: ""Victory at Sea" series. Yes, I remember that series. As a Navy brat, that was almost mandatory watching when I was a kid... and I mean a real kid in the black & white tv days. (Yikes! I don't think my kids have ever seen a black & white tv.)"

I bought the complete set of 26 episodes on three DVDs in the sale bin at Wal-Mart last year. I'm finally getting around to watching the series. I'm on Episode 21, nearing the end of WWII.

The series was made by NBC in 1952, the year I was born. It featured what basically amounts to as a 13-hour symphony on WWII composed by Richard Rodgers of Rodgers and Hammerstein fame and performed by the NBC Orchestra.

Apparently the editors had to go through millions of feet of archival material to create the series. I believe it. The mix of battle scenes, on the home front, R & R, what the enemy is up to, leaders' appearances, etc. gives the series a well-rounded sense. It's not just about the U.S. Navy, but of course our Navy is a prominent player.

I'd catch glimpses of Victory at Sea on reruns when I was a kid. It didn't mean all that much to me then. It means a whole lot more to me now.

I grew up with black and white TV. The one my parents bought when I was 2 years old. We got our first color TV in 1967.

Lynne, Gunny
How about right at Lincoln's feet? The spot is hard to miss.
I think Gunny's right. About 0630 we should be able to find each other.

KimBat
Another hit and run, drivel-spewing comment by our resident "scumbag" Tehran Kimbat .... Queen of moonbattery ... Not to mention that she's a total f'ing idiot, and that is 'an inconvenient truth' ....

Lynne
Getting together sounds great. My wife is expecting our fourth child but if all is going well, I am going to try to get there. Would love to meet you and the Gunny. Would love even more to see some smelly hippy try to intimidate him. HAHAHA! I would take his back in a heartbeat. Perhaps someone with a good knowledge of the geography can suggest a meeting-place slightly removed from The Wall since it will be an absolute mob scene. I will check Gunny's blog for follow-ups on this.

suggestion?
How about making sure Fox covers it? Otherwise those of us not able to go but interested will never hear about it.
Good luck and best wishes to all going!
Another suggestion: If Kimberly were ignored she/he would have no place to shout. I am so tired of reading her!!
I will be watching for your flags!!

Gunner
I know I was just a lowly leg, but the brotherhood of the Rangers was incredible and I had two that saved my A** once. They left me with the Ranger Creed. I memoorized it. Over the years I have used the second 'R' as inspiration. Seems it is perfect for this occasion....hope you don't mind.

Readily will I(we)display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on the (Ranger) objective and complete the mission (though I be the lone survivor)
Hoo-ah!

Gathering of Eagles
The Eagles need to be present in Washington on March 17 in numbers large enough to fan away the hot air put out by the doubters and haters. This could be a tipping point, determining whether we continue to take the fight to the terrorists who exploit Islam, totalitarian regimes, and failed states or just try to get by playing defense. If we care enough to act, maybe we can provide our brave troops with some breathing room to do their jobs.

Of Note:
Regarding American fighting men.

One of them lied about by Naval Reserve officer Lt. John F. Kerry :
Sgt. of the Army Jerry Michael Shriver, Special Forces attached to S.O.G. Vietnam.
Cut of with N. Viets all around his location
his call for support fire included this:

On our position, we have them where we want them
"surronded from the inside."

Was Jerry on the list the Polish Govt. handed off to us and the good Lt. and Clinton deep sixed in the Senate security vault, the question comes to mind to some.

New Generations of Vets
Lynne: "But, my kids where shocked...shocked I tell you, that I was actually around during the VietNam War. But then I was more shocked that they were actually studying the VietNam War in 'history' class. The VietNam War, in my mind, should be part of "Current Events." :-)"

I was thinking about the change of generations a few years ago. When I was a kid, we'd attend the Memorial Day commemoration in our small town's park. The very elderly vets fought in WWI, like my great uncle, one of the few survivors of the Lost Battalion. He was a true hero. The middle aged men were WWII vets, like my uncle who was seriously wounded just before the Battle of the Bulge. The Vietnam War was going on then, so of course those soldiers and sailors weren't "vets." Not yet, as of then.

Now, the number of American WWI vets probably can be counted on one set of fingers. The WWII vets are dying in droves. Stephen Ambrose, before he died, talked on C-SPAN about how in the early days of his WWII interviews he and his associates were able to talk to generals and colonels about their experiences. In the last few years of his project, he said, they were down to corporals and buck privates.

My dad joined the Navy in April of 1945 on his 18th birthday. He'll be celebrating his 80th birthday this April. He is one of the youngest WWII vets (at least of those who didn't lie about their birthdays).

Now, the Vietnam War vets are middle aged heading toward elderly. The Gulf War vets are full-fledged middle aged. The world and the years, they do turn...

KIMBERLY
Kimberly ole girl when I was a State Trooper years ago I used to arrest Liberal Girls like you for hanging around the Mens Restrooms at the Rest Areas along the Interstate.
Could we possibly have met and I held your hand ??? That is while I was fingerprinting you ??? Just wondered as you sound so much like Hanoi Jane.

Vietnam nurses
For those who are going to the Gathering of Eagles, please look out for the monument to the nurses who served in Vietnam. It is a beautiful monument and close to the Vietnam Memorial. I would be devastated if it were desacrated.

Kimberly
Spoken like a true liberal (socialista).

I spent over 22 years (AF CCT) defending your and my right to freedom of speech in many areas of this wonderful world. My daughter and her husband (Marines) have defended your and my right to freedom of speech, serving tours in Iraq.

Kimberly, you DO NOT have the right to limit my (or others) freedom of speech. Serving your country in the military is not a prerequisite to the use of that precious freedom.

Finally, I suggest that should you wish to limit who can comment on a subject than you also should abide by the limitation.

Gunny, Lynne, et. al.
I hope to go also but am having trouble finding anyone to go w/me. I have sent this to my son (USMC vet) and hope he can make it. If so, I'd love to meet up w/everyone and join in the gathering. Gunny, I read your blog every day so I'll stay informed as to the particulars.

Lynne, I think the sticky name tags are a good idea!

Is there anywhere that I can plan on parking? Or would the metro be the way to come in from Silver Spring? I'm soooo clueless when it comes to DC.

just an aside
I'll be driving in from Harford County, MD. I don't live in Silver Spring, I just know there's a Metro stop there somewhere b/c I used it to go to the evening parade once at 8th and I.

Flame
Kimberly believes that one can only be a war supporter unless they have served...She jsut hates it when we all get together and talk about how much our freedom matters to us. As a matter of fact,Flame, she thinks because she doesn't support the war (or the troops, though she lies)and didn't ask for their sacrifice that she owes them nothing. In her own words-"last time she checked she was still free." But, how? I think she still believes in magic!

I'm hoping to be there
I'm trying to convince my VN vet hubby to go to the vets clubs in the area to get enough for a bus trip. I've never done anything like this, either, except for the pro-life march but that was pretty calm. St. Patrick's day also happens to my b'day (and yes that's why my name's patsy) so the trip will be a gift to myself. I'll be armed with a camcorder, a camera, and a flag. Just like about a million other people. See you there. KIMBERLY, care to join me? Come on, it'll be fun. Let's talk, let's chat, get to know each other. I'm sure I'll be able to recognize you by the sour look on your face. PP

Metro
I'm coming in from Pittsburgh and have in-laws in Columbia. They advise using the metro from Silver Spring because parking should be unbelievably bad. I'm coming in on Thursday night and spending Friday touring the memorials in peace (my sife's first trip), so I'll be getting to the metro as early as possible on Saturday.

I spelled "wife" wrong
That'll make her happy

Kimberly doesn't owe our military personnel a darn thing except the respect and courtesy that is owed to all our citizens. That is the point of freedom of speech.

Even the socialist loving left has the right to this freedom however like every citizen they are also accountable for what they say and what actions they take. They are also open to voluminous discussion on the pro and cons of their statements.

Personally, I ROTFLMAO when reading most of the leftist comments. However I do draw the line when someone tries to limit the rights of others. I am also concerned with the amount of support that our left leaning citizens provide to ideas like Sharia Law. They don't seem to recognize that they would be the first on the chopping block if islamic law were in place instead of our precious Constitution.

Lynne, d'Anconia
Lynne, I did go to the site and posted, asking if any veteran groups are going (I'd be proud to have a seat on a bus w/veterans....and gladly pay my own way....lol).

d'Anconia, thanks for the tip about using the Metro. IF I end up driving (which I will if I have to), I will do the Metro and leave way before the buttcrack of dawn.

I do have an aunt who lives in Rockville. Maybe I'll beg a room for Friday night from her.

d`Anconia
I won't be there until 0730 or so, as the metro doesn't run until 0700 unless I can scam a ride.

Patsyp
Did you say you were in NC? I am near the capital city...you gotta go!! And FYI, Llynne and Patsy- if I see Kimberly, start up the collection plate to bail out...

Patriot Guard Riders and GOE
The PGR has shut down the GOE thread in their forum. This is just wrong. There are over 80,000 PGR members. These people need to find a way to rid the PGR of its current leadership.

For those here who don't know, the PGR group was created to counter demonstrations at the funerals of our fallen citizen soldiers by people opposed to the GWOT. You see us shielding the bereaved with a wall of flags. Literally. That was the original plan for the 17th, in my understanding, but our politically correct/multicultural National Park Service has banned flags for this event (at the Wall).

There is a difference between being anal about the non-political nature of an organization and going so far as to stifle patriotism.

We must go all out to make our voices heard above the fray. Our "leaders" need desperately to have a knot jerked in their necks just to get their attention.

If we show up in large numbers on the 17th our voices will reverberate long and loud through the halls of government.

Why? Because it is a COUNTER demonstration. This is no comparison to "Rolling Thunder" on memorial day when our presence is viewed as a nuisance.

Songo..
You are the typical example of cyniscism I spoke of yesterday on another thread...I wasn't believed, however. And then all your leftist comrades showed their as*es when they wished Dick Cheney dead. Sanctity of a life for you, right? Liberalism is a disease...Always in denial or la-la-land.

Songo
I enlisted and made it to First Lieutenant (Infantry) before being forced out with a medical discharge. I have a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in English Literature and am damn sure that I'm smarter than you and John Kerry.
Be boorish somewhere else, you're childish stupidity isn't going to get you very far here.
By the way, misspelling Bush as an insult might have been funny in junior high, but none of us are still in junior high.

Gunny
I'm planning to take the metro myself, so I won't be arriving until approximately 0730 either.

Lynne
That's David Horowitz's organization. He's the reformed Communist, right?

Lynne - thanks for the link
I'm switching back and forth between here and the site. There's a lot thre, so it'll take me a while to finish it.
I doubt Songo will come back. He came and, much like Kimberly, spewed his trash and left before he'd have to take any flak.

sorry
misspelled there

TheLeftisEvil
You said, "American Leftists hate the fact that America is the world's hyperpower. Suffice it to say, my on-line name is an understatement."

I agree with your definition. I would add however, that there are some in the Republican party that are furthering the top-down economies that you mention. Unfortunately, socialism is not limited to solely the Democrat party.

Lynne
I noticed some of the books and pamphlets offered on that site were written by Robert Spencer. Is he the person who wrote "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam and the Crusades?"
If so, I found that to be an interesting, informative book that taught me much that I didn't know (I was familiar with much of the truth about the Crusades, but did not realize how agressive Islam had been, or for how long it had been that way).

Lynne
You said, "Yes, of course, because you're wrong!

If you read TheLeftIsEvil post then you've answered your question. You make no sense.
End of discussion!"

Oh REALLY, Lynne. Do tell. Ever hear of Mohammad Mossadegh and Operation Ajax?

Lynne
You said, "Liberty: Oh pa-lease!
Enough!"

I hate to tell you, Lynne, but you do not own me or this board. I am wondering if you have anything of substance to add to any discussion. For the most part, you seem to go around harrassing people and sticking to your "oh pa-lease"s. Keep it up. I miss my 5 year old nephew and your behavior reminds me a lot of his.

Liberty
Yeah, the US supported him so that we'd have an ally in the M.E. The Shah took over and was a big ally of the US until Carter betrayed him.

Try reading "The Enemy at Home." He makes a great point on how the Muslims EXPECT the US and indeed, ALL nations to pursue their self-interests.

If your economy needs oil, it makes a lot of sense to have a friend with a lot of it.

Carter screwed the pooch in Iran and put us in the fix we are today. All for not following WHAT is good for America.

Need good guide on organizations to assist 1st time travleer to washington DC on where to stay and above all will chartered busses come to motels outside of D.C. Specific motels and appx time to board the bus. Thanks, Korean Vet

Getting started
As soon as hubby came home I told him about the trip and he was on the phone immediately calling around to get a busload. Wish we would have know about this earlier.

Are flags really banned from this event? That makes no sense. I'm sure there will be lots of people who won't know that.

Nee, I'm in PA, not NC.

Isn't it ironic that someone like Songo would think that the troops were uneducated? Sheesh

See you at the wall, PP

GunnyG
I have read several books, etc. that discuss our involvement in topping Mossadeqh. Here is a summary:

I'm interested in your thoughts on this.

correction
I meant to say "toppling".

Lynne
You said, "I've had enough of dealing with your silly posts. You can post to whomever you'd like, and whomever wants to post back to your silly rediculous comments.. But I'm done with you.

That's what I meant by "enough." "

I'm glad you think talk of the Constitution is "silly". What do you read, Lynne? The Communist Manifesto or is it, Mein Kampf?

I Still Remember...
Twenty-five years after graduating from Basic Training, I still remember our platoon motto,"No mission too difficult, no task too great. No slack, Drill Sergeant! No slack!"

And I remember what I saw looking down Sixth Avenue toward the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

And I remember hearing the name of my friend being read at the 9/11 Memorial ceremony at Ground Zero.

So I will assign myself this mission to be there in Washington, D.C. on March 17th to stand with my fellow Eagles.

I wish all who plan to attend a safe trip.

march 17
I heard about the counter march on the Levin show a couple of weeks back. Sounds like the event is really gaining steam. Please be safe.
The Moving Wall is coming to my town Florence, OR this year and my fire dept is going to escort it into town and to the local park for display. I know it is not the same but, I get choked up every time I've seen it.

Won't the media count us as protestors?
Hi,
My first instinct was to book a plane ticket, and tell my son to get ready for a visit (he's stationed at Ft Meade), but then I was concerned that the MSM would just take a head count from the helicopters above, and say there were x number of Anti-war protesters at the rally - including ME.

I really want to support the troops, but the LAST thing I want to do is to inflate the numbers at this thing, if it's just going to be lumped into an anti-war rally headcount.

I have never attended something like this, and I sincerely want to help, but the media has a tendency to see what they want to see. Since this is being advertised as an Anti-war rally, I suspect every person in attendance will be added to their tally, when they report how many people attended, and NO distinction will be made between anti-war protesters and Anti-anti-war protesters.

I think it would be far better to stage a Pro-Military or Pro-US rally, and then have the helicopters do a headcount of how many show up, so there will be no confusion as to why someone was there. I can assure you, NO ONE in the media is going to go around counting who is there for the rally, and who is there protesting the rally. They never have in the past, and I doubt they will now, either.

I do not want to discourage anyone from attending, but I do think this may explain why only 40 people showed up to protest against them last time, when millions disagree with these nuts.

Showing up just increases their statistical numbers, and the media aids them by inflating their numbers any way they can.

If you know a way to protest them, while not adding to their ranks in helicopter shots from above on the nightly news, please tell me how you intend to do it. I would love to help, but not them.

shrew
Are you a jihadist? Do you hate the United States? Perhaps you do not remeber the cold war or maybe you weren't born yet. When the US defends its intrest the usual benifit is to raise the standard of living for those in that area. Khomeni did a great job of that for those horrid dhimmis in Iran, like the Zorastrians,Christians and Druze there who under the Shah, unless they were enemies of the state of Iran...Communist,Islamic extremist were probably left alone.
If such an attack as you seem to be hoping for was to occur I would hope the leftist anti-American traitors here would get out of the way and let the Iranians reap the whirlwind which they would have sown.
For everyone else ...see you at the wall
