Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

When House Republicans passed legislation last December that secured our borders and put a premium on strict enforcement of our immigration laws, the American people had hope that their elected leaders had heard their demands.

Sadly, the legislation that is currently leading the debate in Washington shows our Senators have turned a deaf ear to the public. Despite last week’s action stopping it from coming to the Senate floor for a final vote, efforts are being made to tinker around the edges with this legislation and pass it later this year.

The better course of action is for our elected leaders to follow the no-nonsense direction being called for by hard-working, tax-paying, law-abiding citizens: Secure Our Borders Now!

The current Senate legislation is a mirror image of the approach passed by Congress in 1986 when it forced on us amnesty for illegal immigrants in exchange for border security.

The result of that misguided approach then is an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States now.

The American people are fed up and won’t be misled again. This Congress will be judged on their actions, not their words.

Congress must stop the flow of illegal immigrants across our border. Once we know who is in our country then we can take the next step in immigration reform.

The supporters of the current Senate legislation have stated that “triggers” are in place that prevent a “pathway to citizenship” until the borders are secured.

The problem is the bill’s “triggers” are basically meaningless since amnesty occurs regardless of whether the triggers are pulled. And besides, most of the triggers either are already in place or authorized by current law. For instance, Immigration and Customs Enforcement already has 27,500 detention beds, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is on schedule to have 18,000 Border Patrol agents in the next two years (they currently have almost 15,000 agents) and DHS is already required by law to build over 700 miles of fencing along the border (the 370 miles required by this “trigger” is actually a cut). In short, these “triggers” do not lead to true border security; but rather, greater insecurity for American families and businesses.

The current “comprehensive” immigration bill is purposely designed to permit the overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants to legally live and work in the U.S. from day one and eventually to become permanent residents and then citizens. This is not the outcome the American people desire.

Until Congress passes legislation that starts and ends with securing our borders and puts a premium on strict enforcement of our immigration laws, we must make our voices heard. But understand, in order to hear our voice, you must take the time to listen to what we're saying.

Should our Senators do that, they would hear the five principles that guide the American people’s resolve on immigration.

First, the American people want to secure our borders and provide additional resources to federal and state authorities to strengthen border patrol efforts. Period.

Second, they want to strengthen enforcement and stiffen penalties on those immigrants who ignore the rule of law of this country.

Third, they want to enforce current laws that prevent employers from knowingly hiring illegal immigrants.

Fourth, they oppose all efforts to reward illegal immigrants for illegal behavior. Fifth, but every bit as important, they want to keep the door to America open. We understand our success depends on legal immigrants. Look at how our nation was built. We just ask that those wanting to live here obey our immigration laws, assimilate into our society by learning English, and embrace our common identity as Americans.

We further ask that those we have entrusted with leadership meet the expectations of the American people by passing straightforward legislation that secures our borders and enforces current immigration laws. Not too much to ask, now is it?

What You See is What You Got
I love Michael Steele, but like many of my fellow conservatives he doesn't realize yet what's happened. Yo, Michael, the Dems won! There is going to be no border security first (or last, or ever). What you see is what you got.

There are about 4500 blogs on TH, and looking for a truly good one can be something like looking for a diamond in a landfill. I'm taking a look at ALL of them (which is not quite as awesome a task as it sounds, since about 75% of them are inactive). Every Saturday and Sunday, I'll feature 2-3 of them and tell you why they're worth reading. I'm especially interested in blogs that don't just recite the same old slogans we all "know and love" (sorta).

If a blog is part of an individual's "anger mangement" therapy, I tend to avoid it. Instead, I'm searching for new insights, new information, and new uses of technology. This weekend (Saturday a.m. and Sunday a.m.) and every weekend thereafter, I'm going to feature three blogs, which will be:

http://kelleysblog.townhall.com (a new one by a Townhall intern)
http://midnightbluesays.blogspot.com (linked to Townhall site of same name)
http://scrappleface.townhall.com (a feisty and very funny site)

Scrapple's most recent piece is titled "Poll: Majority Say Paris Hilton's Plight Good for America." Also, he recommends for certain Mormon candidates a "don't ask, don't tell policy." A funny man is our Scrapple.

I'll explain why these blogs are worth your time visiting -- and re-visiting.

All three of these bloggers are from PA. Next weekend will be New Jersey bloggers, and after that the ever-popular Ohio. If you're not in those three states, relax, your turn will come.

It's the lack of enforcement, stupid
Thanks for making excellent points, Mr. Steele.

Michael Medved today is quoting an LA Times/Bloomberg poll, which is reported as confirming that a majority of Americans (63% overall) approve of the basic provisions of the McCain-Kennedy bill (path to citizenship, guest worker program).

The problem with the analysis, of course, is that what alarms most of us is the complete absence of an enforcement mechanism to make the "path to citizenship" in any way meaningful.

Under McCain-Kennedy, 12 million illegal aliens could pay fines and pass some other tests, and become citizens.

OR -- and this is the sticking point -- 12 million illegal aliens could NOT do that, and nothing would happen to them, or to anyone else. We have existing laws that say something SHOULD happen to them (and to their law-breaking employers), and an existing, surreal situation in which those who are paid by the public to enforce the laws are thwarted in their lawful, taxpayer-funded purpose, 24/365, by OTHER paid officials of the government.

The McCain-Kennedy bill doesn't propose to address that reality in any way. Sorry, politicians, this emperor is buck nekkid. He keeps trying to streak through the stadium, but he's been identified and booed off the field, a long time ago.

I'm Sad To Say...
If our esteemed leaders think there's "resentment" towards illegals in America now, you just wait until Americans are forced to smilingly bow, welcome and *pay for* scores of millions of law-breakers who will take scores more with them to turn our neighborhoods into trashy and crime-infested Barrios.

Americans are perhaps the World's most fair-minded people; but part of that fairness comes from free will. Once they are forced at the point of a legislative gun to "be fair" towards those who don't deserve it, it's reckoning time.

Top-down social engineering has wrought the biggest evils upon the 20th century. A pox on those trying to reengineer America in the 21st.

Incidentally
The "stupid" wasn't directed at you, Steve. It was generic, and intended to evoke the old "It's the economy, stupid" line from the '92 campaign.

I only used that line in a TH comment for the first time today, as one does one's best to refrain from adding to the ad hominem free-for-all that may erupt in the comments sections here.

Perhaps I'd better avoid the "It's (X, Y, or Z), stupid" formulation in the future. Sigh.

The Freedom of Migration Act
The Freedom of Migration Act is the only solution to our immigration problem that makes sense.

Read about it at http://www.henrykkowalczyk.com/immigration.htm .

See it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6i8xbHNCxoU .

Tell me, what is wrong in the Freedom of Migration Act?

Excellent colmun Michael!
But I for one am sick of all the talk that goes on forever on this subject. We all know that President Bush could close and seal the whole length of the Southern border with a phone call. All he has to do is order the Army to the border armed and with orders to use lethal force to stop invaders. Then deal with the illegal aliens trapped inside.

But he refuses to do that and in fact is blocking efforts to secure the border. Unless it's done through his Scamnesty bill!

Why? why is the President of the United States, purposely violating his oath of office!? Because his globalist goal of combining Mexico, Canada and the U.S. under one roof called the North American Union! He's done this without authority and behind closed doors. This is Treason in it's purest form. Yet no one in government will call him on it.

Where are all the Dem's who've been screeching "Impeach Bush!" Here are perfect grounds and the Dem's are dead silent! There is a lot more going on in this corrupt government then we will know.

Geeze
First Thomas Sowell, now Michael Steele. How did all of these black guys become white supremacist racists? Hmmmm... maybe it's not a race issue after all.

Steele for President
Hooray, Michael! You are exactly right. Too bad the boobs in D.C. are so stupid.

March for America Events June 14, 15, 16

March for America June 14, 15, 16 Washington D.C. and state capitols across the country. Be there or be without a country.

http://www.lframerica.com/march2.html

Right On, Mr. Steele
He should have been Chair of the GOP... not Mel Martinez. What a crock...

A bad bill is worse than no bill; we already have laws that are supposed to protect our country, a fence was supposed to be built...but the only appropriations in Congress are for pet projects for Senators, not for enforcement. They don't mean it; they just want new voters, new labour members, cheap labour.

The risks from a medical, employment, economic and security standpoint are enormous, and this bill doesn't deal with ANY OF IT. We have a high number of unskilled labourers unemployed (legal residents), we are seeing cases of parasitic infection (i.e. chigas), that are previously unheard of in the US, Robert Rector has shown us how this bill will bankrupt Social Security, Medicare, etc., and we already have a problem with potential terrorists overstaying visas and disappearing... never mind the burgeoning gang violence, and yet Congress is INTENT on pushing this through.

I find it funny how Dems are able to point to so called 'public sentiment' to push for withdrawl of our troops, yet 'public sentiment' - virulently strong against this legislation - is easily brushed aside.

If this goes through, it's the end of the party as we know it. The betrayal will be thorough and complete.

uh, heir you dolt?
Did you perhaps stop reading Kilroy's post after the first sentence or something?

Bush offers to do his job?

Presidential candidate Duncan Hunter on the Lou Dobbs show asked why do we need to pass a bill for the Bush to do his sworn job? And why he is the President using a sworn duty as a bargaining cheap? Why would anyone trust Bush now?

MSNBC-WASHINGTON - President Bush, hoping to salvage immigration overhaul legislation, has agreed to an upfront infusion of money for federal border security efforts in a concession designed to win over skeptical conservatives.

Bush supports setting aside all the fees and penalties in the bill solely for tougher security on the border and workplace enforcement, White House press secretary Tony Snow said Thursday. The president on Monday morning will make the announcement of his backing for an amendment that two Republican senators have proposed to accomplish this end

Senators to Revive Immigration Measure
By DAVID ESPO 06.14.07, 6:10 PM ET

he says they have enough RINOs

Question
I thought most illegal immigrants came into the US on airplanes with valid visas. Putting a million troops on the border will (maybe) if the troops are competently led and competently trained/equipped (bigger maybe) stop some illegals coming over the border. Should we stop giving visas to people to come here? Do you track people with visas once they're here? The border gets all the attention because its big and draws a lot of attention. What about the substance though?

Visa Exit system
anowrast,

Actually, you have a very good point. However, another reason to not trust this Administration or Congress, the Visa Exit system to track those who come to our country legally, was mandated to be in place 8 years ago. Do you remember seeing those little machines at airports? Yeah. Exactly.

Government and our tax dollars at work. I see it every single day.

George I and George II
The Bush family has done more to harm Conservatism than the Liberal Left could ever hope to.The bush family has set conservatism back 30 years.Lets be vocal about how their administrations are not conservatism and keep Jeb away from 1600.!!

Mr. Steele

continues to impress!

This is another situation where instead of taking steps to deal with the problem logically...or like responsible stewards of this country; the pushers of the Senate immigration bill have created something that wallows in appeasement to eachother instead of their constituents. Irresponsible!

SHOW US you/we can enforce the borders and the laws FIRST!!!

I am fortunate enough
to be an Anglo in the Rio Grande Valley with a degree from UT/TSC. If you think the black neighborhoods are bad, and they are, you aint seen nuthin till you"ve seen an illegal barrio. And its coming to a place near you!!!!!!!

Mr. Steele
" Until Congress passes legislation that starts and ends with securing our borders and puts a premium on strict enforcement of our immigration laws,..."

I thought we'd already passed legislation some time ago to build nearly 700 miles of fence along the border. Yet, they've only built about 10 miles.

Where's the Fence?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90SDkhwnEIo

I also thought we already immigration laws on the books.

I also remember legislation that was supposed to substantially increase the number of Border Patrol agents. Note: Perhaps we shouldn't be encouraging them to leave their duty and go to Iraq? hhmmm....

Why is it that we need new legislation???? What we need is for the Executive Branch to start doing their job and building the fence, enforcing our immigration laws and getting our Border Patrol beefed up.

A BACKDOOR REPEAL OF THE CONSTITUTION
We need to ask ourselves what it means to work within the system. Working within the system obviously does not work. What we are dealing with here is treason via the government. Our President swore to uphold our laws. Quite simply, he lied. And the one before him lied as well.

Opening the borders is not just another billion dollar pork boodogle. With the inevitable fraud and family inclusion we are looking at 50 million invaders. We are inviting in twenty millinon now and Fifty million in twenty years who can not read. These people will not care to understand our Constitution. Most will not know what the Constitution is. With this kind of dilution of citizenship the Constitution might as well be repealed.

This immigration bill is a Constitutional act. And it is being done with almost no debate. It is a Trillion dollar give away. Have no doubt about it our government has turned on us. And if the Republican party can't keep its members from deserting us, then the Republican party has betrayed us as well.

One thing we should start thinking about is what happens after the immigration bill passes? Everyone assumes that that will be the end of it and that we will have lost game set and match. But in fact whatever this Congress gives away the next Congress or the one after that can take back. Our first act has to be cleaning our own house.

We need to remember that the only vote that counts is the closure vote. Any Senator who votes to end debate is in favor of immigration regardless of how that Senator votes on the bill itself.

Compromise
Okay, I'll offer the president, Lindsey Graham and John McCain a compromise. Here it is.

All illegal immigrants must register for the Z-Visa but the Z-Visa is only temporary. To remain in this country the person holding the Z-Visa and his/her employer must advise of the holders' whereabouts and their employer every time a change occurs. The Z-Visa expires if certain benchmarks are not realized. The border must be sealed by 12/31/2008 and the flow of persons crossing the border illegally must be reduced to 5% of its current flow by the same date or the Z-Visa expires and all those holding Z-Visas must report for deportation. The Z-Visa can be taken from the holder if the holder commits a felony, fails to pass an English proficiency exam or terminates his/her employment without immediately locating another employer/sponsor. Employers are to be held responsible for seeing that those holding Z-Visas leave the country if asked. A fine is to be paid by the employer/sponsor for each person that cannot be found or that records indicate has not left the country. Any person not working or a direct dependent of someone who is working will not be provided a Z-Visa. Once expired, Z-Visas are not renewable. They will continue in force only as long as the tide of border crossing remains at or below 5% of current levels. Immigrant flow will be measured by an independent agency that has the well-being of the country at heart, not the government. I'd let Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh pick the organization. Again, not the government.

There's my compromise. Place the onus on the employers who want these people here so badly. Also, persons holding Z-Visas must be able to pass an English proficiency exam by 12/31/2008 and may not apply for citizenship until or unless every person currently in line for a visa has been processed, regardless of country of origin.

There is my compromise. I'm sure others can improve upon this but I wish to show some willingness to compromise on this issue and a permanent allowance for Z-Visas is not a solution.

Steve:
From the looks of it, had the Republicans kept the House with no gains or losses, and even picked up a few seats in the Senate, there still would not be anything passed as Michael descibes. There are simply too many RINOS and they needed to go... although the timing wasn't great.

Here's what I don't get...
The Government has been completely inept with almost every single program that it has ever come up with, the exception being collecting taxes from anyone who is not wealthy enough to put their money into offshore accounts.
The last immigration "compromise" in '86, which was written by pretty much the same people showed that once again they were great when getting what they wanted but also completely inept when holding up their part of the bargain. Basically the American people compromised while the Federal Government fell short.
The only possible way that this is going to get any kind of backing from the American people is if they take it one step at a time starting with border structural development. Once they finish that one they can move on to employer enforcement, and then after everything else has been finished... then they can start guest worker stuff.
It's okay when I have to hold my daughter's hand when I walk her through instructions, because she's 4. It becomes a problem when you have to do the same thing with grown men and women.

An Open Letter to Michael Medved
Michael, have you even read the Heritage Foundations work detailing the financial cost to Americans of the illegal aliens already here? Robert Rector has shown that each of these families, 4.5 million households containing 15.9 million individuals, pays an average of $10,000 per year in taxes while consuming $30,000 per year in benefits and services. This $20,000 per year deficit, which comes out of the pockets of American taxpayers, adds up to 89 BILLION dollars per year. Over 10 years this cost to taxpayers adds up to 1 TRILLION dollars. Over a lifetime, it costs American taxpayers 1.1 million dollars to support each one of these households. These figures are based on the 2004 census. Undoubtedly the number of illegals has increased greatly since then. Try and imagine the figures when these people have brought in their families and their numbers have doubled, tripled, quadrupled. These economic facts are not going to go away, no matter how inconvenient they are. Either you are right about what a wonderful boon these illegal aliens are to our economy, and the Heritage Foundation is a bunch of liars, or not. Its one or the other, Michael. The other day Lou Dobbs was saying-------Oh sorry, I forgot that Lou Dobbs is a Nazi, he gets his material directly from the American Nazi parties website. I could quote Tom Tancredo about---- wait a minute, it was just last week you were explaining what a despicable person “Tom Terrific” is and how he is a joke to the “Real” members of Congress who “Get Things Done”. I would really be interested to hear what ad hominems you are going to use to marginalize Robert Rector. You state that you believe that this amnesty/legalization is good for America, “ But if it fails to pass, it won’t be the end of the world. The next day the sun will still rise, and we’ll still live in the greatest nation on God’s green earth, and we’ll manage to go on to other issues.” I disagree most profoundly. By the false, dishonest, and falacious attempt to roll together the totally separate issues of border security and legalization you and all the other amnesty advocates have shown that your only concern is to import every indigent, uneducated, unskilled third world refugee that you can. For the Democrats-to build an invincible power block. For the Rockefeller/Rino Republicans-to ensure an endless supply of cheap labor. For the Liberals-to vastly expand the entitlement/dependancy welfare state. For the corrupt tin pot dictators of the third world-to have a dumping ground for the wreckage of their socialist Utopias or corrupt and inefficient banana republic hellholes. For all politicians- to replace their “Difficult” demanding middle class American constituancies with pliable third world serfs who need only promises of more entitlements to buy their loyalty. And for the America haters, the chance to deal to America a death blow beyond the wildest dreams of any nuclear armed madman or WMD wielding Islamofacist terrorist. For once the floodgates of the third world are opened into America, it is over. In a few years, when the original 12 to 20 million have grown to 50 million, 100 million, as they bring in their families, and tens of millions more flood across an increasingly meaningless border, angrily demanding their “rights” and their turn at Amnesty, it will be too late. Already the illegal colonists, not immigrants, from Mexico hold mass rallies where they loudly call for reconquista in surreal scenes more appropriate to the early days of Nazi Germany than 21 st. century America. The same people that must be “brought in from the shadows” In a way it will be the end of the world. Illegal immigration will finally stop. Because America will be just another part of the third world. The next day the sun may rise, but the greatest nation on Gods Green Earth will no longer be there to greet it. And we will be able to move on to other issues? The American Lung Association has an eloquent motto “When you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.” I propose that once America has been dealt its death blow, what else could possibly matter. Only a living entity can have issues.

All I can say is:

No Border Fence -North American Union
We know that no matter how much money Congress allocates for border security, it will never happen.

We know about the Superhighway and the North American Union.

We know that Congress is blackmailing the American public into passing this horrible Amnesty bill by holding the border fence hostage. If those turds had any intention of building that border fence, it would have already been built.

If they cared about the future of this nation, Congress would WANT to build it. But clearly they don't. There will never be a fence because it would defeat the whole purpose of their North American Union. A union Americans have NO interest in and will fight tooth and nail.

Congress is playing deadly games with us. And anyone who thinks they are sincere in any way, is naive beyond belief.

We must pay attention to what Congress does and DOESN'T DO... not what they SAY. Because talk is cheap.

Perhaps we will get illegals to do their job....they would do a better job at a much lower cost. Isn't that the theory?

Time
This article is right on target, it very clearly states the will of the people.

It's time to show these clowns in Washington the door. We either need a complete overhaul of this elitist political system or we need national term limits.

This government has been failing for 60 years. The immigration issue is clear indicator that our government has now failed completely. We need a government that actually adheres to the constitution that it is sworn to protect and defend. We need one that enforces the laws it passes.

The Washington elite have seen fit to oppose the will of the people. Lets fire them and the parties they represent, these elites certainly don't represent us!

The damned laws to protect us are already on the books, they were passed by this elitist government long ago. How about we just enforce the laws we have! I suggest that if Americans want to keep a country and a culture of their own they had better get after these idiots in Washington. Right, Left, Moderate, it doesn't matter what we are, if we don't get rid of this decades corrupt "system" in DC we won't have a place called America anymore.

SMOOOOKIN'
Signing a piece of paper entitled: "I will build the fence" for the nth time is so easy!!!
Sounds like a smoker's statement; "it is so easy to quit smoking! I'd quit 12 times already!"

WHO HATES WHITE RACE???
He already has signed building the fence, then the money for it WERE WITHELD.
There are Americans building it, the Minutemen, but he calls them "vigilantes".
We are "bigots, racists", etc. - for asking him to do what he's promissed....
SSSSSSSSSSSStrange "logic"..
asking foreign interest mexican org. RACE to look over the border control bill is called.. ... ....what???

We love people & hate criminals - and it is wrong???

Congress and the President
have no intention of sealing that border. If they did it would be done already since the constitution provides for it already. I laugh at the dim bulb Dems. Let's see we have no business in the ME, but we do have business in Mexico. Mexico is suddenly our responsibility, but we are supposed to ignore the violence that is prevalent in the ME especially as it spreads like a cancer around the world? Oh and don't forget Darfur. The Dems lack common sense and proirities. We are the only country in the world that imports poverty and it's insane.

kilroy
Kilroy is a stupid IDIOT and a true racist. PIG!

Why secure the border?
All you racists need to get over it! We are a nation of immigrants and they have a right to come here. Sure Al Quada claims to have walked suitcase nukes over the Mexican border and will detonate them in American cities when they feel the time is right, but that's no reason to cut off hard working criminals, errr, undocumented Americans from this land of oppertunity.

All you right-wing racists who just care about continueing to live are clearly the problem. All those on the left who don't object to getting blown up with a bomb are clearly right. We don't need to secure anything we should just surrender now, destroy all our weapons and then we can live in peace...as we get beheaded for being infidels.

A couple of thoughts on the matter
1. A border fence will be a money pit and a handicap. The Great Wall of China, Maginot Line, and McNamara Line were all similar endeavors that sucked in lots of men, money, and equipment and still didn't keep the enemy out.
2. This is a "people" problem. Our government doesn't handle people problems very well. See the welfare system as an example. People who need help get hurt; and people who need hurt get help. Another waste of Federal money and manpower.

I think that the Feds should provide a financial and regulatory framework, then grant authority to the States (and the States will hopefully grant authority to Localities in turn) to use that framework however they see fit--kind of like block grants. Maybe the Feds should provide small mobile units as backup for local manpower, but not more than that.

It is true that regulations exist. I think that this is a case of overpromising, as usual. If the framework could be simplified to make immigration easier for people who will be good citizens and impossible for people who will be bad citizens and weed out government officials who abuse people (hint: INS).

Dreamworld? Probably. Reality? Possibly, with years of determined and unified grassroots effort.

Hey, Erudite Earlobe and Lolo
Kilroy's comment was sarcasm!

Sheesh.

The obvious linkage
on the "comprehensive" approach: it's the only way scamnesty can be passed.

If the obvious approach of ensuring border security as a stand-alone measure is taken, which would certainly pass in a heartbeat, then there would never be any chance of passing scamnesty later as a stand-alone measure, because it is almost universally rejected by the country.

That's why Bush is trying his disgusting "bribe" of promising security funding if the bill passes; he's holding border security hostage to the granting of scamnesty

Voter Imposed Term Limits
Michael.

I am so sick and tired of Congress that I have been forced do something, so I have founded Voter Imposed Term Limits. The American people must be made to understand that they control Congress not the other way around.

The Mission of Voter Imposed Term Limits is to educate the individual American Citizen of the awesome power and responsibility giving to each American Citizen by the United State Constitution. All Federal elections and a great many Local elections are National and International in scope. All members of Congress vote on National and International problems and issues. No more " All elections are Local ".

We do not need a Constitutional Amendment to limit the terms members of Congress can serve. All American Citizens have that power in their vote. Voter Imposed Term Limits will educate the American Voter to wield this power judicially and with great effect.

The Congress of today is pure theater. No reality, all smoke and mirrors for the audience. The only part that is real is the total dedication to REELECTION. The job is so great no one wants to give it up. Power corrupts and they have absolute power over our lives.
Voter Imposed Term Limits will, through inventive use of all Media Forms and Forums, give the American Voter a way to simply, easily and with certainty limit the term in office all federally elected officials.

The really nice thing about Voter Imposed Term Limits is that we can do it without the need to even ask Congress for anything.
I believe that a new Unwritten Rule is taking shape in the mind of the American voter, be they Democrat or Republican, simply put it goes something like “6 YEARS AND OUT”.

Broken promises
How many promises has the government broken to the ethnic communities of our country? Now they have a new slave labor class for at least 20 years they can exploit. Longer if the community continues to accept their children leading the dropout rates.

Stop the race baiting, folks. Any Aztec/Mayan that thinks they own North America needs to remember that my Ute ancestors fought them back everytime, and then eventually Europeans won. Get over it and build a nation, not ethnic slave labor camps.

Haven't laughed so hard in weeks!!!
Using bushy's favorite language, let me tell you: "il (sic, very ill) perfecto" or
"la perfecta (or Trifecta?)...????
Or was it "eF U, Americans?"
Seen that middle finger of his and
the "hole" Senate.

..and the third airplane had crashed in Pennsylvania, not .....................there......tsk

thinker
Glad you enjoyed it. The sad part is the ignorant masses are going to send us to the polls in '08 with the option of a no-borders, gun-snatching, anti-constitution NY liberal or a no-borders, gun-snatching, anti-constitution NY liberal. They aren't smart enough to realize that if the next President is anyone other then Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, or possibly Huckabee they are going to be getting a worse anal pounding then we got form Clinton, Carter, and Bush combined.

I've Had It With Selective Enforcement
If the Feds don't like how you run your schools, they withold funds; it they don't like the way you set your speed limits, they withold funds. So why the he|| do they not withold funds from Seattle, Los Angeles, Houston, etc et al?

Remember how your senators and congressman voted on this issue. Remember in '08.

SIGH
Sssssiiiiiigggghhhhh. Ugh. Heap big trouble. White man on war path so Indian go war path too.

Black Americans:
Illegal immigration is the single most important issue to come before congress since slavery. This time around, YOU have a say.

Congress couldn't get it right the last time and it cost America 4 bloody years.

If congress doesn't get it right this time, it might cost us much, much more.

The Honorable???
Why would anyone even consider negotiating with anyone that never gets around to keeping their word on any of the immigration laws of the past?

What would be the point?

This is like the people that got caught by their own rules while playing games as children. Every time they would get caught in one of their old rules they would start in on a big speech for a new rule. They never would pay up on being caught on the old rule.

No one plays with them long.

Just what are we still doing dealing with these liars?

Don - - Term Limits
The way, only way, we get control of congress is to have every jack son withhold payments of any kind to the parties at the state and national level.

Let the money boyzz give. We will give to the primary candidates of our choice, and to H'll with War--shington. We decide who gets the party nomination, not the pol machine.

No more money to the GOP, and I recommend the same to democrats who want control of their party. They are up sh--s creek same as the repubs are.

That's the problem. They have control of the party machine and associated monies, not us the citizens.

Don
With Representatives (Congress), can Americans simply not issue "pink slip" to them EVERYTIME after TWO years?

Buck
Right on.

The big losers in this battle are the blacks along with a lot of poor or under educated whites and browns.

I wrote Thomas Sowell yesterday, directly asking that he contact all black leaders, pastors and persons of influence to fight this stupid, dangerous bill S 1348 or whatever look alike child of it.

We need the black community to speak up. They are being hurt already and will be hurt a lot more in the near future. I guess the capitol boyzz won't have much to say to black Americans about being racists, xenophobes or any thing like that.. huh.

Congrats to Michael
Damm good article, well written and to the points, all of them.

Right on guy, we need more like you. I gave 5 stars to this one as I did yesterday to Thomas Sowell.

Fence fence fence
Why is Bush so deaf that he can't hear such a simple message? Looks like we should vote for Hunter.
Maybe we need to organize a march on Washington DC with signs that say Where's the fence? and Build the fence first and We want a fence.

Campos
And free Campos and the other guy.

Amnesty is a form of pardon
Bush wants to grant it for 12 million, but not for Libby and the two BP agents.

Helluva a guy, that Jorge. Apparently believes in the rule of law, unless Spanish is your primary language.

For too many years it seems the two communities have had divergent interests when it comes to government and politics.

But on this issue it is very important we come together.
Brothers might fight and squabble among themselves but will unite when outside influence tries to interfere.
Well, the outside influence is trying to interfere. They not only want to interfere, they want to take over our turf.

WE MUST UNITE ON THIS ISSUE.

We can squabble between ourselves on other issues and another time. But for now we must stand together.

Clinton, Bush together on immigration

Would not Hillary Clinton Presidency just be the same as Bush? Corporate donors first Americans left out!

USATODAY-Under fire from many of his fellow Republicans over his immigration plans, President Bush heard some kind words on that subject today from someone who’s often among his sharpest critics — Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Our friends at ABC News’ Political Radar report both Bush and Clinton addressed the 2007 Esperanza National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast this morning, and that the senator praised the president and Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy for their work on the immigration bill “and commended them on helping lead the way to finding common ground between the Democrats and Republicans.”

“I applaud the president. I applaud Senator Kennedy. I applaud Republicans and Democrats alike who have come together around an issue that we know is drawing attacks from all directions,” Clinton said.

Bush
I no longer look at him as a leader of the people. He is the TOADY of corporate america, and everyone that agrees with him are the same. The only chance we have is if enough Pubbies in the senate defeat this. The libs will back Bush, then blame him for this mess. Just as they did on the War

Broader implications
Hugo Chavez wants nukes; Iran's looming nuclear threat; North Korea; Iraq.

All has taken a back burner as Bush absolutely destroys any influence and "capital" that may have remained to him so that he can try to force an immensely unpopular and repugnant amnesty for illegal aliens down the throats of an electorate in almost full and very vocal rebellion.

The Bush presidency is closing on almost disastrous notes, not only for his legacy but also for the future of the country, on both the domestic and international fronts.

He is sacrificing literally EVERYTHING on the altar of amnesty.

Absolutely amazing!

bottom line . . . .
The political elite will not now, nor will they ever, enforce past, present, or future immigration laws. The reason is simple, they don't want to because, in their eyes, it isn't in their best interest. Get used to it folks, unless you're willing to vote them out of office and participate in the primary process to select people who adequately represent you're values and beliefs.

As far as people who overstay their visas? I say give them a gps tracking ankle bracelet a la Paris Hilton. Yeah, that's about as likely as a fence. Bwah aha ahaha ah . . . a fence . . . . ha ahahah ahaha ahah ha. Yeah, hold yer breath on that one.

Represntative form of Govt.

We don't have one. We need to get the money out of elections so the representatives will not be beholden to the 34,000 lobbyists. Can't we send representatives that vcte what's best for their State and Country ?

BIGbelly
Ah heck, bigbelly. He's like all the rest. Just another big government insider bag of wind. Giuliani used to campaign for him. Should tell you something.

konop

At least Chambliss did finally announce he is going to vote against cloture.

In 2008, we could target a few evildoers like Lindsey Graham, or we could adopt a more shotgun approach.

Personally, I believe the targeted approach is superior. You get a few Lindsey Graham, Chuck Hagel, Larry Craig types booted out of the Senate and I think they will finally start to listen.

That's the missing ingredient up to now. They still think we are just a small band of hotheads.

We need a few scalps on the wall, then we will be taken seriously.

by the way
There's a guy who's got a blog on one of the San Diego papers that claims that Comprehensive Immigration Reform is Nancy Pelosi's worst nightmare and that she will do all she can to kill it, but in a way that the responsibility for doing so can't be pinned on her.

Clearly, for the House to pass the bill would be a disaster for the House Democrats in 2008. And that means Pelosi would lose the speakership.

Now, I just hope that doesn't lead anyone to support "comprehensive" immigration reform as a way to get the House back in the hands of the Republicans in 2008. The damage to our country would be 100 times whatever positive short-term political benefits there might be.
