Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

After decades of watching their extravagant, wooly-headed, far-left programs languish in never-never land, Democrats are now realizing their once-forlorn hopes for a return to the good old days. Massive giveaways for their pet socialist schemes -- and payoffs to labor unions and other financial supporters -- will now be the order of the day.

This time they are outdoing their New Deal, Fair Deal, Great Society overspending extravaganzas, cobbling together an $825 billion package they laughingly call a stimulus program, allegedly designed to put unemployed Americans back to work and get the economy back on track.

The Wall Street Journal calls the gift package "A 40-Year Wish List" -- a gravy train the paper called "a political wonder that manages to spend money on just about every pent-up Democratic proposal of the last 40 years."

And what a wonder! It spreads money around -- which our bankrupt government doesn't have -- with reckless abandon, gratifying the wishes of their party's constituency while doing practically nothing to create jobs or give the ailing economy a shot in the arm.

Among the giveaways being financed with our grandchildren's money, as cited by the Journal, is a cool $50 billion for the National Endowment for the Arts, hardly an engine for creating employment for the unemployed. About the only jobs it might create would be for the bureaucrats who would oversee the grant or an artist or two who specialize in exhibiting jars of urine containing a crucifix as their contributions to the nation's culture.

Then there is $1 billion for the notorious Amtrak system, which can't even run its trains on time, a trick even the late Benito Mussolini managed to pull off during his notoriously inept regime. Amtrak hasn't made a dime in profit over the last 40 years. How many unemployed bank tellers, secretaries, reporters or computer technicians will get work at Amtrak?

Most shocking is a $400 million giveaway to study what a growing number of scientist regard as a hoax -- the great global warming scam -- at the very time the nation is chilled to the bone and probably verging on a new ice age, little or big. To make matters worse there is $2.4 billion for another scam for demonstration projects called "carbon capture," a process that has yet to be invented.

Among the other goodies the Journal discovered buried in this massive bill:

. $30 billion, or less than 5 percent of the spending in the bill, to fix bridges or other highway projects in a bill that touts rebuilding of the nation's crumbling infrastructure as a job-creating engine.

. $600 million + to buy new cars when the Feds already spend $3 billion a year on its fleet of 600,000 vehicles.

. $7 billion for modernizing federal buildings and facilities.

This is the result of turning the Democrats loose after years of frustration during the years of my dad's presidency, George W. Bush's four years in the White House, Republican control of Congress from 1992 to 2006, and George Bush 43's presidency, when they couldn't fund their wildest dreams.

All of the crazy stuff they once couldn't get passed is now in the pipeline, starting with the stimulus package. What's interesting here is the question of exactly where Barack Obama stands on all of this Democratic squandermania.

When he spoke with the Republican leadership on Tuesday, it was obvious he hadn't the vaguest idea of what's included in that $825 billion stimulus package. Yet he's the one who is going to have to scramble to find ways to borrow all that money to pay for the items in the bill.

According to House Minority Leader John Boehner, the president was learning some of what is in the package at the same time Republicans are learning about its provisions.

My question is if when Obama sees all of the gaudy stuff in the bill, will he rear up on his hind legs and veto the thing?

If he doesn't, he will be acknowledging that the real power lies in the hands of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, a couple of whackos, and for the next four years he'll be doing their bidding.

Not likely
It would be a profound surprise if Obama had the good sense and integrity to keep his word that he'd allow no earmarks to be attached to any legislation. After all, his track record doesn't indicate that he's anything but a socialist/Marxist intent upon destroying our country.

He'll be doing their bidding regardless
For the next couple years, he will be pelosi's personal hand puppet.
She already has land-deal Reid dancing to her personal tune.

There's one thing we can always count on with democrats, They will go too far. They can't help themselves, they'll over reach and create the next generation of Reagan Democrats.

The question is, how much hell will we go through before 2010?

Ahhh nice to see you advertise our ignorance. Look, Ronnie's philosophy crashed the economy. He would be shocked and surprised that it came to this. He expected adult leadership that never developed. His philosophy crashed the economy and destroyed a generation of American work. Go home your sorry day is over....

Folks
What if it works??????????

What if it works?
You've got to be kidding. There's no way it can work. The economy is entirely in the mess it's in because of such dramatic spending, begun under Bush, financed through inflation. Obama's stimulus will only increase economic decline because it is mere giveaways to various special interests groups - entirely unproductive, and will lead to what we saw under Bush - prices increases for gas and other commodities to pay for it. That means continued downward pressure on the economy. We'll be seeing Democrats lose elections next year and that will put the brakes on Obama, who, I submit, will be done after one term. I'm not unemployed yet, but I expect to be before he's gone.

Yes there is sorry you cannot see it

This infuriates me
our country is already in debt for trillions of dollars we have no way to repay and these idiots want to fund the NEA with even more? Unbelievable and shameful. These politicians truly believe we are their serfs and all our labor belongs to them. Starve the beast -- work less if possible, don't shop, grow your own food, don't save anywhere that is taxable, if you have or can use a wood stove do so and you won't pay utility taxes, if you smoke stop or roll your own, but things you need at yard sales or Ebay. Basically, don't contribute to your own enslavement.

Rick
Why did you bother H D is a prime example of one so blind he cannot see. The DemonRATs are stuck on stupid or to put it another way, the fried their brains so much when they were the
WoodStock trippers and the H... No We Won't Go
Jane Fonda/Lurch wannabe useful idiots. When one has been on a 40 year LSD trip, it's hard to come out of Wonderland and jump back through the mirror. They, instead want the American's that produce and actually do an honest days work, (something they haven't a clue being
a gang of Maynard G. Krebbs clones) to jump in with them And the REpublicans had better not
think about going there!!!!

Does anyone know if a Democrat
in congress ever worked for a living?
They sure as hll know nothing about business. Tax cuts do not run up an interest bill. We are going to owe the Chinese three hundred billion in interest.

government and AMTRAK
I am not opposed to funding Amtrak -- we fund roadways way more than Amtrak. Under that reasoning, we are "losing" way more money with our roads than Amtrak. We also fund airports --so the idea of funding trains should not anger people. One reason that private companies failed to profit by the 1970s is the huge amounts of money it dedicated to roads and airports (I think the govt was right to fund these). Rules give freight trains priority over travel -- which is another reason it is hard to profit with train travel. Yet, we should have some train travel for a variety of reasons -- just like we should build certain roads and bridges. At this point, how can the Republicans with a straight face be opposed to many of these "pork" programs when we threw $2,000,000,000,000 on Iraq without so much as a whimper from most of them. We should not forget accountablility -- Lawrence Lindsey was fired by Bush for saying Iraq could cost 100 billion -- now we are at 2 trillion. Few Republicans hold Bush/Cheney/Rummy accountable because too many of them believe people are traitors for questioning Iraq (I was called that more than once despite having voted for Republican Pres candidates from 1988 to 2000).

Meet the New Boss
Same as the old boss. As if wild, profligate spending and unchecked expansion of the federal government are newly minted concepts. The GOP must purify itself before it can cast any stones. A pox on both their houses.

NO Basket for Loaves and Fish !

the Annointed POTUS and Democrats do not even have a basket to HOLD THE LOAVES and FISH they are passing out to the 300 million USA citizens, the millions of illegals all sitting on the river bank waiting to be fed and fed and fed.

THE USA as we once knew it:

What a tragedy: In one week he has plundered this country of its treasures.

Compromised our national security.

Outsorced all of the abortion jobs to the world.

Eliminated more of our rights and freedoms.

HE WON !

The USA Lost !

Since the Limbo Libs
are in the majority, all the Republicans have to do is vote no on all this garbage (like they did today), and when our financial system finally implodes, at least the Republicans will be able to say enough is enough and start to put things back together. By that time, hopefully true conservatives will come out of their hiding places and start showing this country once again how Capitalism is supposed to work.

Liberals are spoiled rotten children that have been given the whole candy store, not just the jar. They will OD themselves very shortly and then we'll have to put things back on track. But we can -- I feel very positive about no Republican yes votes on this stimulus joke. There is hope yet.

Such a basic principle
It seems like such a basic principle. You don't spend money you don't have. We know what happens when individuals break that principle. Individuals may, thanks to credit, get away with it for a while. But the day of reckoning always comes.

Why would it be any different for nations or governments. The Federal, State, and Local governments have constantly increased the tax burden on the American people, at least those who have an income and pay taxes. And yet it's never enough. Why, because there's always something else to buy, something unaffordable but 'desirable', if only to buy more support from a special interest group.

The stimulus program can't possibly work, if for no other reason than that it's spending money that doesn't exist. And where it does exist it's taking it from the private economy, the economy that actually drives economic growth.

About the only thing it will accomplish is increased misery as the true economic engine of our nation is robbed of its needed resources. Of course, then government will have to step in, to quench the disorder resulting from the misery.

If we want a Marxist dictatorship, then we're following the blueprint perfectly. If we want a free society then we'd better more wisely start using what little time we have left.

Prayer and fasting may be a good place to begin.

Gov't can't run anything
whether it's trains, planes or automobiles, they screw it up.
Cafe standards ruined the auto industry, the postal service had to be partly privatized and now that's cutting back.
The dems social engineering has wrecked this economy with 1 trillion a year in vote buying welfare systems and that Ponzi scheme social security.

The only thing that works is the military because professionals run it and it could be a darn sight cheaper if the pols would change procurement rules and not favor their friends.

Our founding documents guarantee life liberty and the "pursuit" of happiness, they don't guarantee equal results. get OUT of our lives people, we don't need you, dems are corrupt, incompetant fools who can't hack it in the private sector so they spend their time and our money attempting to prop up their inflated egos, we are tired of it.

This "stimulas " pkg is an attempt to put even more people on the dole, make them more dependant on the gov't and therefore more prone to vote for dems..that's the plan, nothing more, it's about time someone in the republican party strapped a set on and said so while we still have a chance to save this republic from the dems communism.

OBAMA, MCCAIN & THE RONALD REAGAN MOMENT
Barack Obama is the first U.S. President since Ronald Reagan to have won a presidential race on a November 4th election date. But unlike Reagan's inauguration Obama's was not nearly as auspicious. Indeed, ten days into the Gaza War between Israel and Hamas I wondered if Providence would bless Obama's inaugural with a Ronald Reagan Moment, i.e., with the gift of a cease fire as Reagan's inaugural was blessed with the end of the Iran Hostage Crisis after 14 humiliating months. But Obama wasn't so fortunate. The war which began under Bush would cease under Bush with the truce beginning on January 18th two days before the inaugural.

Indeed, twenty minutes after Reagan completed the oath of office all 52 hostages seized by Iran were freed, whereas twenty minutes after Obama's bungled oath there was still fighting going on between Israeli troops and Hamas as the terror group, true to form, violated the cease fire.....

no, no, no CONSERVATIVE government cannot run anything you proved that over the last eight years. AND don't go saying that failed regime was not "conservative". That failed regime is EXACTLY what you get when you "everyone for themselves; to heck with everyone else" types can control of government.

"...Cafe standards ruined the auto industry, the postal service had to be partly privatized and now that's cutting back..."

Nope instead of coping and competing the auto industry used lobbying to stop change. It did stop change but couldn't stop customers going elsewhere

"...The dems social engineering has wrecked this economy with 1 trillion a year in vote buying welfare systems and that Ponzi scheme social security..."

Look that simply is not true YOU folks deserve the lion's share of blame. No oversight (poisoned food and toys); no enforcement (a flood of illegal cheap labor); no living wage destroyed families

"...The only thing that works is the military because professionals run it and it could be a darn sight cheaper if the pols would change procurement rules and not favor their friends."

WALLA! You broke the code! Maybe professional should run the government not horse association folks or Liberty U people. WOW what a concept!

"...Our founding documents guarantee life liberty and the "pursuit" of happiness, they don't guarantee equal results..."

Why do you folks always leave out the part of common good or welfare?

"... get OUT of our lives people,.."

LMAO you are the folks wanting in our very homes and bodies good grief!

"... we don't need you, dems are corrupt, incompetant fools who can't hack it in the private sector so they spend their time and our money attempting to prop up their inflated egos, we are tired of it..."

Having been in both sides the private sector is a LOT easier than the public side where these pesky citizens keep wanting "accountability". Oh wait you folks ignored that. Heck you guys even crashed the entire economy. Incompetent? Heck thy name is conservative. Now if we can only get the Private sector off of government handouts and back on its feet...

"....it's about time someone in the republican party strapped a set on and said so while we still have a chance to save this republic from the dems communism"

The Republican Party committed suicide last night I love it and wonder if a new party will arise? I hope so we don't want to be a single party country

Media is the Culprit
We live in an upside-down world.

The advent of an Obama presidency and Dem trifecta (which started to look likely 18 months ago) CAUSED the economic downturn and the "poor climate" for confidence, spending, and investments. Now, the Dems act like they are needed to fix it. Free pass from the media.

Obama ran on tax cuts. Now, no talk of tax cuts. Free pass from the media.

Obama ran on the "end of pork" and a line-by-line review of budget waste. Now, we have the most bloated spending proposal known to man. Free pass from the media.

Obama said we needed governmental transparency. Now, we have a Dem "wish list" being bootlegged inside of a non-stimulating "stimulus package". Free pass from the media.

Liar, liar, pants on fire.

To think that we're barely out of his first week. God help us.

It is VERY transparent. Just because you have difficulty understanding it or you don't like what you see doesn't mean it is not transparent

doofass The Baby Killer: still unable to

"Common good or welfare???" Where in our founding documents is that stated? That's Marxism, big fella!

And what? "What if it works?"

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. So far, doofass, Socialism, Marxism, Communism (you know, for the "Common Good") has NEVER WORKED!

And YOU think it's a good idea to try it AGAIN?

doofass, you are dumber than we though! Ugh!

doofass doesn't realize the trouble he's

in now... :-)

"Economic stimulus? Feds want your medical records... Electronic database to include lawsuit, mental health, abortion, sexual details"

"A little-discussed provision in President Obama's economic stimulus plan would demand that every American submit to a government program for electronic medical records without a choice to opt out, and it has privacy advocates more than a little alarmed." (Cont.)

Know what THIS means, doofass?

THIS means that at some point YOU will be denied health care.

We already know that you qualify for at least three categories that the govt. will deny health care for....

1. Too old! Not worth investing any money in you..

2. Overweight! Uh oh. Not going to invest health care money in someone who lives an unhealthy life style.

3. Mentally deficient (nuts)! Don't have the money to invest in some who cannot be rehabilitated.

And who knows what else might be in doofass' records.... Hmmmmm??? :-)

Bummer, huh? LMAO!

Right now, ol' doofass is all happy that he "got what he wanted," but pretty soon ol' doofass is NOT going to be happy with what he got.

Did I already say, bummer, huh? Oh yeah, guess I did. LMAO!!!!!!!

Hal, you are a true
Kool-aid afficianado.
You libs always try to justify screwing things up by using that "common good" excuse.
Promoting the general welfare doesn't mean taking from one group and giving to another and you know it.

We don't need the gov't to promote change in anything, left alone the auto makers would pretty soon gotten the message that the Japs were making better cars and either competed or gone belly up. The dems do not care about this country, they care only about power which makes them dangerous.

I prefer the messages we got from the framers, who you do not understand very well, guys like Jefferson who warned that a gov't big enough to give you things, is big enough to take all you have.

Or madison who would never have taken from one citizen to give to another.

I doubt any of them would be advocating spending 335 million to study STD's and HIV, a little sop to those who should learn to sit down and shut up in order to stay healthy....

The dems pander to losers, perverts and professional victims, this country wasn't built by those types, but it will be destroyed from within by them with help from people like you and your rose colored glasses.

It Is A great Plan For America
Yep.
We need $500k for a dog race track.
We need $900k for a water park.
We need $1 million for a frisbee golf course.
We need billions for Acorn to commit more voter fraud.
Yep, ya'll should be ashamed for not supporting our saviors plan!!!

It doesn't!

Think back to colonial days if you had a large farm you paid for more roads and schools. Opening up the west (Ohio Valley) the federal government paid mightily to survey etc

"...We don't need the gov't to promote change in anything, left alone the auto makers would pretty soon gotten the message that the Japs were making better cars and either competed or gone belly up..."

Ahhh but they did not they chose to hide from competition using the conservative congress to prevent competition

"...The dems do not care about this country, they care only about power which makes them dangerous."

This is a lie. That is why we had to retrieve the nation from your proven incompetent rule. You folks have seriously damaged the nation. This is a fact not an opinion

doofass has been brainwashed and is incapable of basic comprehension....

I heard on the news last night...
That the "Bailout" bill had indeed passed--with the Dems having the largest numbers--It was inevitable; HOWEVER--what the newscaster SAID was that "every single Republican voted against it!"
I have e-mailed my representatives in Washington almost daily demanding that they did NOT compromise; did NOT concede; that they were to just vote NO--and it is with great hope that I then heard that they did exactly that...Does anyone know the actual vote count??
Could this be true??

doofass: What? "The simple fact is if

what you say is true then why do they life longer and stay healthier."

Exactly "who" are you talking about that "they life longer and stay healthier?"

Pretty early in the day for even you to be losing it, don't ya think?

Lynne: Not only did ALL Republicans

vote NO, but I believe either 11 or 13 dems also voted NO....

But, get this! I was just listening to a report about Iceland... In the past year their banks collapsed and their dollar value has been cut in half, no credit.... Sound familiar???

They're having MASSIVE PROTESTS, every day!!!

Hmmm.... Wonder how long it will be before we're seeing the SAME thing right here in the USSA?

My "guess" is that if we're not seeing thousands of people protesting soon, it will be right after we're "tested" as Bonehead Biden said... "Mark my words......"

Iceland
They have maybe 30,000 white people with good bloodlines--all the others died from extreme cold years ago--. It helps to have good bloodlines.

Thanks for bringing up the provision that applies to medical records. When I read some of Daschles ideas for healthcare I am terrified. Most doctors care about their patients and are perfectly capable of deciding which tests or procedures they need. I am not sure these people who want this universal healthcare know what they wish for. Do these people believe that a government that cannot run anything correctly can now take care of something as important as our healthcare decisions.

What if it works?
In the history of the world, socialism has failed 100 percent of the times. It has NEVER succeeded in lifting the masses out of poverty and enslavement. NEVER! Why would we even consider that it will work this time?

About 25 years back, Senator Ted Kennedy was asked why did he think it would work, even though it has always failed in the past? Kennedy's response? "Because I didn't run it".

The arrogance of the left knows no bounds. The ignorance of the masses knows no Economics. Bad combination.

Ann: Thanks for that great news!
At least, we can be assured that the Republicans will NOT be blamed in any way when it fails! (since they didn't vote for it, they share no blame, right?) I wonder what kind of a spin the Dems can manufacture for that??
As to Iceland--30,000 well-bred people in that small area is certainly recognizable. I wonder how many MILLION we can find that have cojones (male or female) in THIS country? I'd personally stand up for the Constitution any day of the week. Unfortunately, we tend to do it in a diplomatic way--we e-mail, sue, protest in a quiet organized manner.
Maybe we should develop the ways of the Dems of color. Regardless of whether something that happens is good or bad--maybe we should start looting, raping, beating, and pillaging? Do you think that might have an impact?
WE THE PEOPLE need to develop backbone, and it had better be done quickly...
I might mention that Phil Berg is still fighting loyally--but he needs money. He STILL has 3 cases that haven't been heard; and is probably trying to find more! While he is devoting himself to this massively important cause, obviously he can't also be earning a living for himself. He answers e-mails quickly and personally--if you know of anyone who has a case with "standing" that he might be interested in pursuing. Go to obamacrimes.com.

Some quotes from the middle of Bubba's presidency from Mr. Alan Greenspan's book, 'The Age of Turbulence.'

"Almost overnight, the Clinton administration found itself facing a budget surplus that was expanding as fast as the budget had dwindled."

"Not a single Republican had voted for the milestone deficit-reduction budget in 1993."

"My longtime involvement in Social Security reform had made me all too aware that, in the not-too-far-off-future, Social Security and Medicare would face demands in the trillions of dollars as the baby-boom generation aged. There was no practical way to pay those obligations in advance. The most effective policy would be to pay down the debt, creating in the process additional savings, which in turn could increase the nations productive capacity and federal revenues at existing tax rates by the time the boomers hit retirement age."

What is needed is Social Credit.
It is not Socialism and it is not Communism. It is simply giving citizens of this country an equal share in the productivity of this country. If we have 150M workers in the USA and Social Credit were to give each worker $300 a month this would cost $45 Billion. The money would be spent and recovered by various taxes. This is truely a stimulus plan and it avoids the pitfalls of Socialism.

Follow this link to learn more about Social Credit. http://www.michaeljournal.org/realsc1.htm

AUDIT ALL LARGE POLITICAL DONORS
A way to start removing bribery and undue enfluence out of politics is audit all large campaign donors. Since all campaigns would be done their would be no discrimination. Investigate all campaign fraud, voter fraud, and election tampering.

We do not need Social Credit. Let each person produce for his or her own self. Let each person receive the benefits of his or her own labor, not someone else's. Let each person have the freedom to choose to spend their money on products and services of their choice, including health insurance products (health care is available to all in this country regardless of insurance status). Let each person be free to choose to help the less fortunate, or not. I could go on, but I think you get my point. Social Credit, under whatever label you want to give it, is at least just a step away from Communism.

Conservative GOP legislators
Obama voters have reduced your numbers to the point that the liberals don’t even need RINO votes to pass everything they want, and that’s bad. It’s at the point where Nancy Ex-pelosi-ve is eliminating rules that allow you to have any effect. We need to get Conservatives back in the majority in Congress

WHAT ALL OF YOU MUST DO FROM NOW ON IS VOTE UNANIMOUSLY AGAINST EVERY BILL AND TAX THAT LIBERALS PROPOSE!!! DO NOT VOTE FOR ANYTHING LIBERALS PROPOSE!!! DO NOT GO ALONG TO GET ALONG WITH THE LIBERALS!!! DO NOT GO TO THEIR PARTIES!!! TOTALLY VOCALLY OPPOSE THE LIBERALS IN EVERY WAY, ESPECIALLY ILLEGAL ALIEN AMNESTY!!! THE LIBERALS ARE TRYING TO STICK YOU WITH PART OF THE BLAME FOR ALL THEIR FUTURE FAILURES; DON’T LET THEM DO IT!!! DO NOT CLAP WHEN OBAMA SAYS ANYTHING!!! JOINING LIBERALS IN ANYTHING IS SELLING OUT AMERICA!!! THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!!! THEY ARE YOUR AND AMERICA’S WORST ENEMIES, AND WILL DO ANYTHING THEY CAN TO DESTROY BOTH!!! GET THE BLUEBLOOD COUNTRYCLUB ELITES OUT OF THE PARTY!!!

You cannot stop their bills or even slow them down beyond calling for roll call votes for them. Make everything they pass totally theirs. What you will be doing is getting on record as opposing all the destructive liberal bills. They are trying to get you on the hook with them, so you can’t blame them fully.

When all these liberal actions make things much worse, as they will, you can point at the record and show the people that none of you had anything to do with them, and that you had no control over their passage, that all this destruction was caused by liberals.

Then you can tell the people about the tax elimination plan that you proposed that was kept from a vote by the liberals, and other bills that you proposed. You did not vote for the Algore hoax which multiplied the cost of everything many times, and made energy and home heating inaccessible.

For Deacon @ 10:29
That philosophy actually has been tried (successfully) in Western Canada, particularly in Alberta--it's no coincidence that "my" province's highest economic growth times were during the Socred Premierships of "Bible Bill" Aberhart and Preston Manning!

"Only Congress is allowed to spend tax money-read the Constitution."

Your shrillness belies your hysteria.

It was the Republican-controlled Congress of the 1990's, six of Bubba's eight years had a Republican Speaker of the House, the last six and most important.

Those Clinton administration defense cuts were actually Republican-controlled Congress defense cuts. These defense cuts put this nation in grave danger and led to 911. This country was unprepared because of Republican defense cuts.

If you want America put in danger, then vote Republican.

To put it more bluntly, Demoncrat-controlled Congress, you lose some money in the stock market. Republican-controlled Congress, your children may die.

Correction on my 10:41 post
(due to the fact that I got only 3.5 hours of sleep last night, and another 45 minutes on the train-and-metro commute from Columbia to Arlington)

That should have read "Ernest Charles Manning" rather than "Preston Manning".

Take a little time to look at Social Credit before you dismiss it out of hand.

Again it is not Socialism. In fact it tends to advance Capitalism.

It's a can't lose!
This massive giveaway creates more government mooches (100% democrat voters). When it becomes an utter failure, the recipients wont care (they dont have to pay for it) and Obama's sycophants in the press (there's a redundancy) will blame it on Bush.
What ever happened to "It's for the childrennnnn"? Looks to me like we are putting the childrennnnn in a massive hole. Who cares? It's George Bush's fault.

"let us know when you have something of actual substance to contribute."

Thank you for the opportunity to contribute. A damming indictment of Republican 'cut taxes and spend even more' philosophy is shown below.

And now for some quotes from 2001 from Mr. Alan Greenspan's 'Age of Turbulence.'

We start on page 213, enter George 'W' Bush.

"The other issue looming large for the Fed was the disappearance of the national debt. Strange as it may seem in hindsight, in January 2001 the possibility was real. Nearly a decade of rising productivity and growth and budget discipline had put the U.S. government in a position to generate surplus's 'as far as the eye could see,' to borrow the phrase coined by President Reagan's budget director David Stockman in projecting deficits nearly two decades earlier. Even allowing for the recession that might now be setting in, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office was getting ready to raise its projection of the surplus to a stunning $5.6 trillion over ten years. This was $3 trillion higher than the CBO had forecast in 1999, and $1 trillion more than it had predicted just the previous July."

Folks, look at what Republicans have done to our mighty and proud nation.

How about an image of Barack Obama in a jar of urine. Maybe that would ring his chime. Our Country is really in for it. Makes me wonder if any of us will be around in four years to vote against him. After all, he's sitting down with Ahmadinejad with no pre-conditions. Ahmadinejad will make toast of Obama and thus will make toast of the United States.

Non-Policy Economic and Technical Factors Driving Deficits Down
A review of the budget figures from 1993, 1994, and 1995 demonstrates that the deficit declines were not driven by the Clinton tax increases, a policy which even President Clinton now acknowledges was a mistake.
The President would like to take credit for the pick-up in economic growth and its effects on the budget deficit by claiming that his budget proposal caused this added growth. Unfortunately, this argument is not credible because Administration officials had claimed that its policy would boost the economy by reducing interest rates. However, soon after the Clinton tax hikes were adopted in August 1993, the linchpin of this argument -- interest rates -- started going up, not down.
In other words, within several weeks interest rates started moving in the opposite direction from that predicted by the Administration. By putting all their eggs in the interest rate basket, the Administration cannot credibly argue that its policies caused the unexpected improvement in the economy.
Conclusion
A review of the facts on budget deficits does not support President Clinton's claim that the deficit is declining because of his tax increase, a tax increase which even he has disavowed.

Perhaps you have better economic credentials than Alan Greenspan, then again, perhaps not.

Picking up the tab for irresponsibility
Our legacy of failed education has come back to haunt us in that it has created a generation so gullible and uninformed as to fall hook line and sinker for Obama's liberal diatribe.

Like spoiled children standing with their hands out, the majority seem to have no idea as to where the funds for this "bailout" will come.

So in the not-so-distant future, the spoiled children will pout when they discover that it is not someone else's money being tossed around, but their own!

How ridiculous that those of us who have always lived within our means now have to foot the bill for those who never have.

Writ'r-MOM
"Like spoiled children standing with their hand."

I thought you were gonna talk aout the teat-sucking American farmer?

Republicans did have the 'audacity' to increase farm subsidies from 2001-2007 to the princely sum of $34 billion a year.

We have ethanol mandates, sugar, cotton, soybean, wheat and many more agricultural handouts for the Midwest. These teat-suckers need to get their mouths off the nipples of the government sow. This is a Republican wealth-redistribution program from America's east and west coasts to America's heartland, with America's heartlands values.

Why would one believe that sugar should be subsidized, unless, of course, you are a dentist?

Why should cotton be subsidized, since most of it is exported, the number one importer of cotton is China? Who believes that Chinese manufacturing should be subsidized by the American taxpayer?

It takes a gallon of oil to make a gallon of ethanol. No more mandates! If an American farmer can't compete in the global marketplace, then they can always get a job at Walmart, as a 'greeter.'

Excellent posts by both of you. Wanted to comment on the 11 dems that voted against the stimulus bill. They are:

Allen Boyd (D-FL)
Bobby Bright (D-AL)
Jim Cooper (D-TN)
Brad Ellsworth (D-IN)
Parker Griffith (D-AL)
Paul Kanjorski (D-PA) Way to go Anne!
Frank Kratovil (D-MD)
Walt Minnick (D-ID)
Collin Peterson (D-MN)
Heath Shuler (D-NC
Gene Taylor (D-MS(

These men deserve our thanks for voting conscience over party line, even though is passed anyway.

Another little tidbit concerning Anne addressing the protests in Iceland:

We can have our own little protest on May 30th. If interested follow the link I am pasting and sign up. Have a great day ladies!

The farm subsidies were originally used by democrats to buy votes.

The reason they went up during the Republican years is that if a program is funded, then the funding is increased automatically by the COLA increase percentage. If that percentage is not added then the MSM and demos scream about budget cuts, when nothing was cut.

As to the lie that Republicans did not "pay" for what they got, let's examine a few things.

Social Security is broke. Why? LBJ and his democrat congress took the funds out of the social security repository and added it to the general fund so they could spend it on the "War on Poverty". The only thing left in the social security fund is promissory notes. Current benefits are being paid with current taxes.

The blue States took their budget surpluses and tobacco pay outs and used them on pet projects instead of what was intended. Now they are claiming to be broke with no else to sue.

Funny, isn't it? The dems broke/spent it and want to blame Republicans or cold, heartless conservatives.

It would be funny if it wasn't so sick-making.

Hard Thought Knought
"Tax cuts invariably lead to higher revenue through increased economic activity."

All the borrowing and spending, borrowing and spending and more borrowing and spending during the George Bush years has, in itself, had the ability to raise tax revenues.

Here's how,

For example, borrow $400 million from China, then, Congress decides we need a critical infrastructure investment project like "a bridge to some island, populated with 40 people, somewhere in Alaska."
The U.S.A. borrows the money, pays the workers, and the workers pay income tax. If the construction company is unlucky, it may have to pay some corporate tax too. This is one project, now multiply all the above by 14,287. Feel free to pick another country to borrow from.

Feel free to double the size of the Department of Education. Feel free to increase entitlement spending with Medicare Prescription (part D), and free to spend $150 billion on two wars, every year, and, in general, feel free to increase domestic spending across the board. Well, sorry, I lied, cut Amtrak, but who needs mass transit when the President tells us, "we are addicted to foreign oil as never before."

The USA went from a deficit of $5 to $1 trillion under George Bush's 'Reign of Error.' It only took 200 years to get to the first $5 trillion. This total outstanding debt works out to about $33,000 per person in the USA. Now those tax cuts do feel good at the moment, but is there any upper limit to our nation's credit card?

NOTHING MATTERS NOW
I have read all of your posts and we can point fingers, blame every administration for their part, discuss 70 years of American economic actions, set out new theories, analize the stimulus package BUT my summazation is that all American citizens are SCREWED. The majority of them don't know it yet.

Zippy
On some things we agree.

The Department of misEducation should be eliminated.

Medicare and Plan D should be eliminated. HUD should be eliminated as well as the bureau of the ATF.

The only LEGAL activities of the Federal Government are the regulation of Interstate Trade, providing the common defense and negotiating and ratifying treaties with foreign governments. The rest is a crock and usurpation of States Rights.

Borrowing and spending are activities invented and perfected by democrats. The Republicans made the mistake that they thought they could buy good will by following that example.

Yesterday, they did not repeat that mistake.

Hard Thought Nought
"Borrowing and spending are activities invented and perfected by democrats."

Here's how Reagan failed the country!

In Alan Greenspan's 'The Age of Turbulence', pg 102, we have the following tidbit of his thoughts at the end of 1988.

"The economic indicators, meanwhile, were far from encouraging. Huge government deficits under Reagan had caused the national debt to the public to almost triple, from just under $700 billion at the start of his presidency to more than $2 trillion at the end of fiscal year 1988. The dollar was falling, and people were worried about America losing its competitive edge."

and

"When George Bush won that fall, I hoped the Fed and his administration would get along. Everybody knew that whoever came in after Reagan would face huge economic challenges: not just an eventual downturn in the business cycle, but whopping deficits and the rapidly mounting national debt."

$600 million to purchase new cars??
Instead of bailing out GM and Chrysler last month, why didn't the Congress just put in an order for new cars?

That's how stimulus works!! Why can't they get it through their heads?

Zippy
You only cite one source, Alan Greenspan and his book.

Would you accept me citing only Ann Coulter and her books? How about Johan Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism"?

You need to expand your reading.

Hard Thought Knought
"You only cite one source, Alan Greenspan and his book."

Alan Greenspan was appointed as Chairman of the Federal Reserve by none other than Ronald Reagan. He served this country in that capacity for 20 years. What economic credentials to Coulter or Goldberg have?

Zippy
I was referring to only citing them in how liberals behave and why they behave the way they do.

If I wanted to cite economists, I would have chosen Thomas Sowell or Walter Williams as a source.

Keep up.

Your "one trick pony" Greenspan, as I stated before--admitted he was "broadsided" by the bank failures! If he didn't see THAT coming--I fail to see how we can trust much of anything he says.
My statements about Clinton taking credit for what Reagan started--I notice--were studiously ignored.
Best if you do a bit of careful, non-partisan RESEARCH before you blurt out your thoughts...
(oh, and Greenspan's book is NOT research. Try the Congressional Record, Judicial reports, etc.) MUCH accurate information is online--one has but to look...

Conservatives need to read Devvy Kidd's
Article for today--title: Honest Money Bill.
Now, THIS is something we can get behind and push!!
READ IT--you'll like it! ;o)

I have other hobbies
So, although I sometimes read the TH posts for laughs and sometimes edification, I usually don't post much. Pretty much by the time I get to it, all has been said, and sometimes quite well. But I must say this HAL DONAHUE guy has got to be the craziest tin foil hat, kool-aid drinking, self-misdirected lib out there. And he's everywhere on TH. He works so hard at irritating everyone to the point that the discussion on the topic just becomes insane jibberish instead of honest discussion of the facts and exchage of ideas.

Perhaps Hal should lose the hat, shower and shave and go out and look for a job. Perhaps as a writer to replace Franken at SNL?

Hal, you're an irritating gadfly. The people who come here to read TH are not likely to just give up and say: "OK Hal, your right, all republican presidents since Lincoln were ignorant boobs, and we'd all have been better off if we had just mearged with the Soviet Union instead of waisting all that time fighting them."

Come to think of it, if Hal had to spend most of his day in a bread-line waiting for his government handout, we wouldn't have to put up with him here. Hmmm.

I mentioned before, Obama is only a figure head. The Democrats knew exactly what they were doing in pushing this black unknown to the front. His charm, and intelligence caught the young, the old, and the uniformed off guard, and fled like sheep to his fold. The real power, is the Pelosi, Reid,Frank, Schumer, and the rest of corrupt Democratic scum bags. Welcome to the new Hitler regime.

Excellent remark to johnsnare
Zapdoodat, You make no sense.

The fact is that most of the idiots who elected Obama have theIr hands out hoping to get something from the government.
The farm subsidies were introduced by the dems.
Get your facts straight.

The changes that Ronald Reagan & the republicans initiated brought us golden years of financial gain— but Slick Willy took the credit.

Kudos to johnsnare's remark!

Reagan sold arms to the Iranians in Iran-Contra, remember? He broke the law and should have been impeached for being a fool.

Some good points or should I say good progressive rhetoric but you lose on the "S&L crisis" This one topic is a great example of knowing half the story which is apparently all you know.In case you actually would like to learn a little about why government is bad I'll fill you in. Pay attention:
1.Some "evil" men wanted to make some money. (That's those Keating guys)
2."Evil" guys go to S&L and sell packages of "junk" bonds.Just in case your not familiar with what "junk bonds" were back then-which judging by your ignorance you don't-I'll fill you in."Junk" bonds were mainly municpal bonds-you know the way average communities pay for school, etc.All Amercan communites are deadbeats right? No actually they can't get rated so their bonds are called "junk".
3.S&Ls make good money on these "risky" investments. "Evil" men get richer.
4. Real evil greedy men (that's the guy's Greenspan actually listened too-but that's another story) take notice and want to make money.Phone calls are made.Politicains pay heed to their true masters(same guys Greenspan kneeled before)
5.Regulators take notice. Tell S&Ls you can't invest in "junk bonds" you must sell.
6.All S&L's sell bonds of course driving the price down and destroying themselves in the process. Taxpayers foot the bill.
7.Keating 5 go to jail.
8.The real evil greedy men become the #1 junk bond dealers in the world. Make tons of money until last fall when they too fell-which should really concern everyone.
So flame all you want. If you do it will only show your true ignorance. And they call conservaitves brainwsahed. roflmao.

Dr. Tom
Hey Dr.Tom before you diss me read #82 Somehow I lost my tag... I was never a big fan of the social credit either but Milton Friedman
convinced me otherwise. As long as its limited to the poorest people that work normal work weeks and based on how much they make; i.e. the more you make the more credit you get. Time limits can also be imposed. The EIC has too many loopholes. I know 2 couples that refuse to marry else they lose the credit. They have been dong it for 15+ years!! The poor will pick apples if you pay them enough. Illegal aliens hurt our poor more then anything.

Ron Reply #47
You probably have the right idea as to what the Republicans in Congress should do but I fear they and Bush will still get the blame when and if the stimulus package fails to get the desired result.

I have never seen a President as universally vilified as George W. Bush. If an asteroid came out of nowhere and destroyed half the planet he would somehow get the blame for it. And the way he was treated leaving Washington on Inauguration Day was beyond contempt. Not even the common decency given to a dog was shown him much less an ex-President.

The media especially are so in the tank for Obama and the Democrats that they will spin things mercilessly. They will probably say that the Republican's obstruction caused the failure even though Obama's wishes carried the day and the bills passed. And much of the country will believe them. Heads I win, tails you lose.

The media will probably say that only 100% cooperation by all politicians Democrat and Republican will make the plans work. As if problems can only be solved by everyone having good thoughts.

Hannity was right. We have no majority unbiased press in this country anymore. God help us all.

Liberal Hypocracy/Blago
I work with a man who says that Tim Geithner should have been confirmed immediately because he's smart and we need him and the Republicans were holding up his nomination to be Treasury Secretary because of the tax and nanny issues.

Of course to liberal Democrats scandal should only hold up appointments if the offender is Republican. If it's on their side then we hear things like "It's a blip" or "No big deal" or some other excuse and we get accused of being obstructionists. What hypocracy.

By the way score one for the good guys. The Illinois legislature voted to remove Blagojevich from office and the vote was unanimous. And you wouldn't know it from the MSM but Blago had a (D) after his name. I have noticed that when scandal comes to a Democrat the MSM plays that fact down to almost nothing but if it is a Republican they anounce his party affiliation 5 times in the first paragraph of the story. Again hypocracy.

CLASSIC_LIBERAL
Alright, I've looked into this Social Credit thing and admit that it's a body of philosphy I was heretofore unaware of. My apologies to DEACON. However, I remain sceptical but will look into it and get back to you sometime. It's just this whole 'common good' mentality as Rand warned about in "Atlas Shrugged" and which seems to be popularly bandied about nowdays as an excuse for more government interference into every aspect of our lives and commerce makes me very wary. Being human, we are all endowed with inalienable rights, and no man should seek to undermind the dignity of another for personal gain. However, it seems that not all are created with equal ability. Sad as that may be its part of the human experience: the poor will always be with us no matter what we do. So giving credits to level the playing field, so to speak, for the underpriveleged seems counterproductive as human nature kicks in and there is a resultant decrease in desire to achieve. That's why socialism dosent work. It is anathema to human nature.
