Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Republicans have their backs against the wall, facing a bloodbath on Election Day that will leave the party in shambles and the nation in the hands of the worst conglomeration of demagogues, scoundrels and loony leftists ever put together in our nation's history.

When you're fighting for your life, you have two choices: whimper about your plight while the other side cuts you to pieces, or fight as if your life depends on it, which of course it does.

Dark as the outlook for survival may seem, there is a ray of light that if taken advantage of can not only save the GOP, but turn it into a rout of the Democrats that could make Election Day a victory celebration for the Republicans instead of a mournful wake.

The Democrats, who have long shown a shocking talent for snatching defeat from the jaws of near certain victory, are now trying mightily to commit political suicide, yet the majority of elected Republicans are either too blind to see a golden opportunity handed to them on a silver platter, or too stupid to take advantage of it.

Think about it, the vast majority of Americans -- almost 80 percent of them -- are angry and demanding that Congress allow drilling for oil here in the mainland United States, offshore and in Alaska, and the Democrats are thumbing their nose at them and adamantly refusing to lift the ban on drilling.

Their leadership is so committed to preventing the commonsense, long-term solution to the energy crises that they not only refuse to allow a vote on the measure, but skip town without addressing the crisis, with the speaker of the house gadding off to Florida and elsewhere to sell her worst-selling book (a pitiful 2700 or so copies sold thus far, according to Matt Drudge) while her fellow Americans groan under the burden of $4.00 a gallon gasoline.

Her motto isn't Marie Antoinette's "let them eat cake" -- it's more like let the people buy my book and keep shelling out $4 a gallon for gas.

That's a gift from the gods, a life-saving issue that puts the pro-drilling Republicans on the right side of the year's hottest political controversy, and provides them with a weapon they can use to draw the majority of voters to their side and save the party from an impending electoral disaster. Pushed to the limit, it can make Election Day 2008 a banner day in the party's history.

That was obvious to me the minute I saw which way the wind was blowing. Here was the issue that puts the GOP solidly in league with the American people. When I talked with Texas Congressman John Carter on the phone I told him the media was not going to present the GOP's position on the matter, so the Republicans had to do the job themselves in a way the media could not ignore. They had to dramatize their stand.

I told Rep. Carter that with the Democrats fleeing town in droves the Republicans in both houses needed to get back to the Hill and by their presence there in the empty House and Senate chambers demonstrate the Democrats' shameful refusal to respond the demands of the American people,

I said they should demand that the vacationing Democrats come back now and respond to the people's wishes for a solution. I also said that the president needed to call the Democrats' back to deal with the crisis.

I added that the media would have to cover the event, thus dramatizing the Democrats' flight from Washington in the middle of a crisis facing every American. He agreed with me and went to the leadership and they agreed, and the resulting GOP response is getting the media's begrudging attention.

It's not enough, however. This needs to be a party-wide strategy. The entire Republican House membership and all their Senate Republican colleagues need to be on the Hill now, making the case for Congress to reconvene now as loud as they can. And the president needs to call the Congress back into session and demand that the Democrats act to put an end to the crisis now.

This is a golden opportunity, and if the GOP fails to take full advantage of it they will deserve it if the voters go with Democrats in November. The American people are with the Republicans on the most important issue of our time.

The question is, are the Republicans on their side and willing to lead them in the fight to use all the oil resources the Lord has given us in such great abundance and which now are untapped beneath our feet because the Democrats won't allow us to drill down to get it.

Republicans can unite to fight and win. Or they can do what they seem to do best these days, cringe and surrender.

It's up to them.

It sounds like you are describing Obama. Are you? especially that dwilling domestically bit. That is exactly how I picture obama. a whiny snively child that cries susie bit me! after he bites himself so he can blame susie. In obama's case it is him and any republican he can blame so he can look innocent and get sympathy. who wants a baby doing a man's job. a baby who goes crying to mama democrat, al gore or howard dean or hillary or all of the above.

dick morris keeps saying

I forgot to thank you for the kind words.

Thanks, man!

El-vez!

I'd ever ignore you, pard!

You're right, Mitt did do that. I was speaking of the present time, though, not back when we actually had decent candidates still running in the GOP.

Seems like an eon ago already.

BRIAN R.---YOU
ARE IGNORING ME? smile
You mentioned that no GOP is telling the good
side of the OIL STORY....think back, Mitt
Romney told Juan Mc cain..."don't call the oil co. the bad guys"...and what did Juan say.....

McCain's Top Priority
Speaking at the National Council of La Raza conference, July 14, 2008, in San Diego,
" When it comes to immigration, McCain said, "It's my top priority today and it will be my top priority tomorrow."

Sorry Michael, McCain has already made it clear what he is going to focus on should we be unfortunate enough to see him elected.

Not that I suspect BHO is any better on this. I just don't have any quotes from him - I don't spend any time listening to him at all.

It is all very depressing...

Great Article- BUT....
WHERE are these "republicans?" When I was a youth, they were conservative & took stands. As I began working for oil companies, they gave us no support. Would there even be a dispute as to who would win this election if the GOP had supported drilling through the 90's & 00's?

BUT:
Granpa McLame & his Republiwhig friends are on OBAMA'S side on this one. They believe in global warming, open borders, higher taxes, etc.

IF we can dump the Republiwhigs & get some Republicans, we win in a cake walk. If we stick with Granpa McLame it doesn't matter.

He's on Obama's side on this one, against drilling & in favor of environmental elitists running your life. Always has been, always will be. Vote Barr or stay home, but vote McLame & you send the message that conservatives can be ignored.

Exactly, Hitch

This whole idea of "penalizing Big Oil" is just astounding, and an absolutely PERFECT opportunity for a conservative to shine by making the point that we NEED oil as it's the current energy source our technology's pinned to, and that oil companies only make an 8% profit margin, LESS than other industries. Hell, they pay THREE TIMES AS MUCH IN TAXES as they make in profits.

But does the GOP have a guy out there trying to make THAT point?

Nope. They have a guy who goes along with the whole idea.

BrianR
I wouldn't believe him either although it would help the media battle and the party in general. I think most of them are too far gone into the cringe and surrender mode to be helped however.

The recent incumbent republican loss in a TN primary to a republican willing to blame the oil companies is telling. The democrats know there are plenty of ignorant voters that can be pandered to. Too many republicans use the same pandering style.

Not only would this issue make McCain a shoo-in if he so desired, it would probably be a stunning defeat in Congress for the democrats this year. It really is disgusting to see the republican party's gross negligence. Another reason to see them die a proper death in November. Mother Gaia is now worshiped by a majority of both parties.

Hi, Insighting

Yep. Agreed.

Hi BrianR:
I know I wouldn't, and don't believe McCain. McCain is about as two-faced as any politician I've ever seen.

The problem for the GOP

is that their most visible spokeshole, McCain -- the man who claims to be "redefining" conservatism and the GOP -- is as wrong on the issue as the Dems. That's the message people are hearing.

If the GOP wants to put Reagan's plan into effect, they'll have to dump McCain at the convention.

The other option would be for McCain to change his position on ANWR, oil shale, and Cap and Trade.

Not only is that extremely unlikely, but I'm not sure anyone would believe him even if he did.

I wouldn't.

Give this to McCain

Mac should begin today-- to harp on this Democrat betrayal at all the whistle stops, and before the whole nation.

He is a rare candidate who even before election day has a bully pulpit. They HAVE to hear it, since all the cable nets cover the election. SPEAK, Senator McCain !

Repubican Victory
As a conservative female, aged 52, single, educated and pro active, I am surprised that Nancy Pelosi has been permitted to hold such an important seat. She has been a disgrace to we females and her book is not permitted in my home. My daughter has been taught what feminism stands for, and it certainly doesn't stand for deceit, lies and power at the expense of others. Feminism stands for all all that is good about being female. I call for the removal of Nancy Pelosi,,,,,she needs to go home and bake cookies for her grandchildren. Our country is being faced with marxism/socialism leanings, which of course does not benefit the tax payer. We are a republic and our citizens used to have rights, most of which now, if applied, hold fines and penalties. Those in office have proven their lack of value to our country and We The People need to demand their replacement. There are many patriots who can fill these positions and would love the opportunity to represent the American people to the best of their abilities, and do it crime free. Maybe an investigation in Nancy Pelosi's relationship with Exxon/Mobil would be a great place to begin her demise.

An inexhaustible supply....

It's too bad someone hasn't figured out a way to harness the thermals rising over Capitol Hill -- think of all that hot air!

jetpilot

Stop inhaling the aviation fuel fumes!

And Republicans ALS snatch defeat...
from the jaws of victory. NEITHER party is factoring in the people or the country or the constitution. BOTH parties are only interested in who gets on what committee and who gets what chairmanship and who gets the most money from the lobbyists. A pox on BOTH their houses -- and the horse they rode up on!

What nonsense!
Elected Republicans are not fighting because by-n-large they agree with their Democrat colleagues.

The War ON Oil.....

Step back from the endless futile arguments about current
energy policy, look at the trends of the last 35 years of recent history,
and you can see the long term trend of restriction and resistance
to traditional and nuclear energy from domestic American sources.

A river in Ohio caught on fire, and American common sense turned
the corner on pollution and the environment, much for the better.
But the pendulum swung too far in the other direction, and some few
began a guerilla war against energy, progress and technology.

Since 1973, prices have climbed; domestic production is way down,
importation is way up, and policy from both parties has not only failed
to stop the negative trends, they have made it progressively worse.

We have been painted into a corner, or, more accurately,
way out on a limb, to the point where our national security and our
national economic heath are at grave risk, and beyond our control,
in an increasingly dangerous and unstable world.

The guerrilla tactics have broken into open warfare on “Dirty Oil”
because…“Oil makes us sick, Coal makes us sick” and we must be
“weaned” from it regardless of how much pain and misery it causes us.
Our economy, our security is teetering on the edge……

They are “Trying to save the Planet” but the unanswered question is-
Save it from who?..... Us?..... The American People?
Who are they saving it for?.....Islam?... The Chinese?....The Russians?

For my country
that I love so much I would gladly let the oil companies drill (literally) in my own back yard if I thought they could produce even one barrel of oil to move toward a more independant U.S.
I've seen the care they take with the environment and I have to say that by and large they have left an area better than they found it. Sure, my back yard may not be as visually appealing for the time that the oil derick (sp?) is in place but once all of the oil has been removed I know it will once again look much like it does now if not better. So oil companies take note: you are welcome in my back yard!!!

Jetpilot
Get back on your meds...you are incoherent and rambling.

Che Guevara - Dem Idol
Barak Hussein Obamas' campaign office in Houston ostensibly displays a poster of Che Guevara at center stage. Most Democrats (and Hollywood) are huge fans of this murderous thug. The Oil issue is indeed the one where the Marxists were caught off guard during this campaign, it just seemed to come from the "left field". Working towards domestic self-suffuciency in energy will have far reaching and positive economical effects while diminishing the risk factor of middle east perennial instabilities. Domestic energy self-sufficiency will keep us more secure as we won't have to meddle as much with that explosive-barbaric part of the world, let Europe start worrying a bit more about their own energy safety. They have been cozily under our umbrella for too long, at great cost to our taxpayers. Michael is right, this is an issue where Republicans could soundly defeat Democrats come November.

SEE what Happens: HUGO CHAVEZ example
SO Obama wants to confiscate all of the OIL and energy companies: control Corporate America with an IRON fist: Control the futures market: redistribute wealth, pardon the minorities, open borders:: shut down the defense of this nation ::: etc.

Venezuela's INFATION 33% !!!!!!!

Coming to the USA under Marxist Obama, pelosi Reid, the Axis of evil:

EVERY conservative must swallow their subborn objections to McCain and VOTE and Campaign against Obama and to save this NATION from certain disaster:

"SINISTER" Obama or worse
the enemy within:

Obama, Pelosi, REID,

CHANGE: Obama, twists, distorts, fabricates and boldly lies about all FACTS:

HOPE he doesnt' get caught playing the race card over and over and over again:

This election should be a cake walk for McCain, however:
McCain's team does not "GET IT"

We the people do: SO we must all work hard to SAVE THIS NATION FROM the OBAMA disaster which will be felt for generations:

McCain at best can save this nation from total destruction by Obama:

SO everyone must take a hit to their pride and stubborn objections and hit the trail to tell 10 people to tell 10 people, to tell 10 people:

SAVE THIS NATION FROM DESTRUCTION VOTE AGAINST OBAMA

GIFT the book::: THE OBAMA NATION, it details and documents why obama is the most dangerous man in the USA

THEN review every speech and every action:
Ration
equal share
Punish success
SUFFER:::: no heat, no lights, no gas:
Ration use a bike
inflate your tires (we all already do that)
the silly stuff:

every conservative must "CHANGE" and get over it: We were duped, however, we can tolerate 4 years of McCain to avoid complete destruction:

THE WORLD is facing 13-18% inflation: WE WILL BE NEXT under more Obama, Pelosi, REID leadership;

We had that for 8 years
>"...on Election Day that will leave the party in shambles and the nation in the hands of the worst conglomeration of demagogues, scoundrels and loony leftists ever put together in our nation's history." WTF?

Didn't we have that for the last 8 years with the Republicans? Even the McCain Campaign is desperate when Paris Hilton burns Maverick. Obama "They take pride in being ignorant." Right on! McCain's answer is to p#*p his wife out to some bikers.

BTW it is ironic that Cindy McCain is a rich pampered trust fund princess who has never worked a day in her life and spends 10's of thousands like water. Elite? Yep.

I may not sure I'll vote for Obama and like McCain but with the depth that the Republican run has infected the Government with wholesale violation of the Constitution and law, I will have to default to Dems to CLEAN the scum left from Bush Admin, Cheney, Bolton, Rove, Rumsfeld, Gonzales, Libby (Plame gate), Condi, Heck of a Job Brown'ie (Katrna), dismissal of U.S. Attorneys (Monica Goodling).

I don't care what your politics are but making the US Gov a theocracy and one party rule is anti-american. Its anti Constitution. Before Iraq started THEY KNEW INTEL WAS WRONG AND SOLD IT. That is worse than Watergate; people did not die, trillions spent and USA wrecked from Watergate.

NO ONE CAN BE AS BIG OF LOCK STEPPER TO THING THE GOP IS GOODNESS AND PUPPY DOGS AND SUNSHINE. They are all crooks and thieves and the GOP are Kings. Dems are just ineffectual screw ups. The GOP has committed out and out evil.

Right On The Money...
...George Bush has chosen to "take the high road" for 7+ years, because of his reverence for the office, which is very admirable.

But by allowing the democrat filth machine to spew out lies and insults non-stop, with virtually no rebuttals, we find ourselves on the brink of being saddled with an administration that'll make the clinton cess-pool seem virtuous by comparison, and the misery that'll be inflicted on the American way of life will be on a par with that of the carter years.

The only way to stop this potential catastrophy from happening is to FIGHT THESE MARXIST/RACIST CROOKS the only way they understand, DOWN AND DIRTY and taking advantage of every opportunity that they present us with.

ACCEPT THE GIFT
Reid and Pelosi have offered the gift, conservatives should celebrate by snatching is and educating the public non-stop for the next three months. If energy and food prices haven't prepared the nation for this opportunity, the GOP deserves to slip into obscurity. If all they do is get noisy for a couple of weeks, they should all be retired on election day. Respect begets respect, so extend the same respect to Pelosi she gives the GOP - none. To my and everyone else's republican members of the House and Senate: it's time to fight dirty. Pound the energy message into the public's mind without rest. It's no time for surrendor - you're points down in the fourth quarter and they have the ball. Suck it up I implore you.

This is exactly right...
if the republicans in congress can't get back to DC and do their jobs, then they deserve the routing they will get in November. I also see this is a way to turn things around...and God will be the ONLY one who can help us if they screw it up this time!

Michael: Spot on! And we need to be

hearing that like a mantra!

But the demos have to continue to do their thing... (As Dick Morris says, Obama is running against obama!)

I'm hoping we'll hear more of, "...every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by 3 to 4 percent."

And I'm also hoping to hear more of "I'm trying to save the planet... I'm trying to save the planet!" which, btw is one of my personal favorites! (That should be enough to put Nazi Nancy in a home for the bewildered with "Robert.")

I'm
hoping the President is biding his time, to let it build up and boil over. I said I'm hoping, not saying he will; he's been a klutz when it comes to domestic policy.

We've got to help them, spread the word, and
call our reps and any demonRAT con-men if that's our misforture to have in our districts.]
Mine is one, running for cover behind Nannies skirts, he's got her permission to come out and
tell us a tall storwee about how he is for dwilling domestwickly.

If I recall
the House Minority Leader Boehner from my state of Ohio is leading the way on this....Kudos to him, and I knew for sure there was something "reaganesque" in all this....good job Michael.

You are correct!
Thank you Michael. I was very disappointed that President Bush did not support the House GOP. But I agree we should. And McCain needs to keep harping on his energy plan. And we need to keep the pressure on the Dems. This is the time to get more agressive, not lie down.
