Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Fred Thompson’s opening shot in launching his campaign on the Jay Leno show was impressive, but now he has to forget the sound bites and the folksy advice and get down to brass tacks.

To begin with, he has to give the voters in the primary states a good reason to pick him over all the other Republican candidates. He has to tell them not only where he stands on the issues, but also what he plans to do about them.

It’s not enough to say he wants a better America – after all, everybody wants that. He has to spell out how he plans to get there.

What is he going to do to give us the smaller government candidates keep promising but never seem to provide?

What is he going to do to win the war in Iraq and the war against terrorism?

How does he plan to create a fairer income tax system that rewards hard work rather than punishes it?

He needs to answer those questions and be very specific in his answers.

The voters won’t want to know how he feels about issues – they can get all that touchy-feely stuff from the Democrats – they want to know exactly what he plans to do about them, and how he plans to do it.

He has to explain how he plans to deal with Capitol Hill, where the Democrats control both houses of Congress and aren’t exactly enthusiastic about the Republican way of doing things.

For that matter, what would he do while running for the presidency to help his party regain control of the Congress in the 2008 elections if he’s at the top of the ticket? While the media consider that impossible, the utter failure of the Democrats in Congress to do anything worthwhile gives the GOP a fighting chance.

In other words, what would he do to provide the coattails that could carry Congressional candidates into Washington with him? Continued...

When you're right ,you're right.
You're right, that's probably one of the main things that bother me along with his lack of zeal. He's not a model of spirituality is he?

But, look at what you've got to choose from.

I would probably pick Romney if I thought that he could win 45% of the nation. I just don't think he's popular enough for that much, but I’m still looking at him.
The Mormon thing is not a problem with me. The man shows character and stability.

He's smart, energetic, healthy enough, experienced, and conservative.

Hunter and Huckabee are good men, but can’t carry a national election.
They will have to be considered running mates.

I really don’t want to have to vote for Rudy.

Listen to yourself...
"The left are gleefully hoping Thompson gets the nomination. It will be a bigger debacle than 2006."

I've not read news indicating thus. In fact, I can remember clearly a story over on Drudge where a Democrat staffer said that Thompson was the one person they least want to run against. Conversely, I've read more than one story about Republican staffers who actually look forward to running against Hillary, citing the fact that America has never elected somebody who entered the race with over 40% unpopular poll numbers, is female, and is also a Senator.

Why would the Left "gleefully" look forward to running against a man millions of Americans already recognize from television, movies, and standing in for Paul Harvey on the radio? I don't know about you, but I'd rather run against an unknown like Hunter or Tancredo any day. They'll have to spend many man hours just introducing themselves to the American people in a way Thompson can already take for granted.

And gender gap? What is this, amatuer hour on Townhall.com? Reagan proved twice that you don't need woman voters to deliver 49 state landslide victories. Women or minorities. You have to get middle class white guys to vote for you or you don't win. Period.
