Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Listening to Idaho Republican Senator Larry Craig proclaim in near-thundering terms that he is not gay and never has been gay, I couldn't help but recall hearing Bill Clinton swear he "did not have sex with that woman."

All Craig lacked to enforce the comparison was a finger wiggling at the camera. In his case, there was also no trace of bodily fluids on anyone's dress to prove his guilt, but then there was that guilty plea admitting that he had engaged in disorderly conduct in a men's room at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport, thereby avoiding admitting that he originally had been charged with soliciting a homosexual encounter with an undercover police officer.

Craig now says he pled guilty simply to get the matter out of the way, but surely as a lawmaker he had to know that he could easily have pleaded nolo contendere (no contest) without owning up to having been a bad boy and having that damning guilty plea on the record.

The media has jumped on this story as if the senator were Paris Hilton in drag. Aside from the ribald comments it has provoked, such as Jay Leno's remark to Sen. John McCain -- who had said that his colleagues don't socialize with one another -- that his lonely fellow senators could always find companionship in airport men's rooms.

When they involve politics, scandals such as this one are certain to find partisanship rearing its head, and the Craig affair is no exception. Because Larry Craig is a staunch conservative from a staunchly conservative state, Democrats and their leftist allies are dancing in the streets over his embarrassment, busily reminding every sympathetic reporter who will listen to them that the Idaho Senator not only espouses family values, but has been a staunch foe of gay marriage.

Ergo, he's not only a closet men's room lothario, but a hypocrite as well. It's a case of "don't do as I do, do as I say."

As tempting a target as Craig may be, however, it's interesting how gingerly the overwhelmingly pro-gay media have approached the subject of his alleged homosexuality.

Except for the more-militant gay activists, at least one of which has charged in unprintable language that Craig isn't really gay, he just likes to have gay sex, most of the media have avoided any hint that in reporting on the scandal they find Craig's suspected homosexuality objectionable.

In other words, if he really is gay, that fact itself is off limits. As Jerry Seinfeld used to say after mentioning homosexuality with something less than approval, "Not that there's anything wrong with that."

In the media's eyes, however, there is a lot wrong with a closet gay criticizing gay marriage or promoting family values which they see as code for condemning homosexuality and gays.

Democrats and the media define Craig as a hypocrite. By their twisted logic, therefore, anybody who espouses traditional Judeo/Christian values must also be a hypocrite.

As a result, the Craig affair is providing Democrats with an opportunity to attack conservative proponents of traditional family values and conservative foes of gay marriage as a bunch of hypocrites, thereby hoping to deprive the GOP of a pair of politically potent issues.

Democrats want the public to believe that Craig is a hypocrite who speaks one way and acts in another – appearing to be a practicing heterosexual when he is in reality a closet gay – not, they'll hasten to say, that there's anything wrong with that.

hypocrite
Senator Craig was single for a long time. That raised doubts early in his long career. He eventually married. He has consistently voted pro family and pro traditional marriage. If he struggles with same gender attraction that voting record does not make him a hypocrite. It may mean that he has a personal understanding of why those votes are so important.

Senator Craig has served Idaho and the Nation well and long. However, his judgment in his handling of this situation requires him to graciously let someone else serve as Senator from Idaho. He needs to reassess and then for the good of the party let another Republican assume the seat.

Tom Delay eventually resigned "for the good of the party" but he did it in a way that lost the seat for the party. Hopefully, Senator Craig will have better judgment.

Moral failings are not a belief system
The Christian concept of sin and accepting that all men, self included, are sinners establishes a wedge between actions and beliefs. If a man murders is he a hypocrite because he thinks murder is wrong? If he thought that murder was right then there could be no malice aforethought. Whether or not Sen. Craig is homosexual has no required connection in logic to what he believes are good values for society. He was elected to give the public the benefit of whatever wisdom lies between his ears rather than whatever randy urges lurk in his loins. Gay activists would reverse this.

On a different note, today Sen. McCain, who once claimed to have good "gaydar," which seems to have failed him, called for Sen. Craig to resign. That is rich coming from one of the "Keating Five." The Senator from Arizona allowed his moral faults to effect his conduct of the office a Senator. The Senator from Idaho's alleged activity in the airport has no impact upon legislation/. McCain is a hypocrite, Craig is not.

Suddenly
the hypocrisy is somewhere else? The people who dare to criticize this man are hypocrites?

Now let's see: we have a republican politician who gets married only after turning 40 in connection with a gay sex scandal. He marries his former aide and adopts her chilcdren so that he doesn't have to sire his own. Very convenient prop for a "pro family" politician of far right. Then this man makes his career by judging others, demeaning openly gay people and their relationships and families. He seeks to intentionally hurt committed gay couples and defames gays who wish to serve their country at armerd forces. He votres for writing discrimination into constitution so that other hatemongers would see him as one of their owm. He has no character, no dignity nor personal courage.

Michael Reagan here makes excuses for this man because Craig is a republican dream: a closeted, self loathing gay man who uses all he has to bash and demean other gays who dare to live openly and courageously. This little coward made his career as gay basher and had some gay sex on the side. Of course such person is not a hypocrite to someone like Reagan (think about people who raised him: after all his father watched with cold indifference how thousads of gay men perished for six years without ONCE even mentioning them).... Reagan is a chip of old block. If you're closeted married gay man living in a lie (bit like the ex-gays for pay like Alan Chambers) you're OK and Not a hypoctrite if you use your time and energy to hurt people who have the courage and dignity to live honestly.

To Reagan, like his father before him. it's all about keeping up appearances. True character has no meaning or value, it's all about looks and self righteousness.

Craig is immoral because he has lied all his life. he's like Jewish nazi, man who hates himself so much he's ready to destroy all others like him. Naturally such person makes a good conservative.

To all you hypocracsy yelling
libtards, is it like Albore? Pushing actions against global warming when you have a carbon footprint bigger than Mt. Everest. Yeah, let's get rid of him, in fact, let's get rid of EVERY politician who says one thing and does another. Let's get rid of every politician who promises one thing and does another. What would we have then? instant term limits.

Hypocrisy, what Hypocricy?
Democrats (that includes 99% of the FDM, facts don't matter) media glamourize the Gay Life Style
from pre-school through Harvard Graduate School
are suddenly "shocked, I say shocked that a republican could be caught flirting with a man in a public restroom! When their elected officials are "fooling around" such as Barney and the others did all those years they were "in the closet" the only sin is to even draw attention to them. Yes, I think like many public figures who choose to hide their lifestyle for whatever reasons, they run around with former Miss Americas, Date famous high profile women to
get noticed in the normal environment and, yes, even marry as a part of their personal, political or public denial. Even Rock Hudson was married!

So which is it, Democrats and liberal media. If it is so wonderful and unbiased to embrace and
glamourize the gay lifestyle why are you suddenly acting like it is sinful just because it is a Republican "flirting in the can?

PhillupSpace
None of those democrat politicians you mention never advocated for anti-agy policies in the name of "fanily values" while having gay sex. Do you approve fake marriages so that this hypocrite can bloat about the "sanctity" while debying all legal proetctions of committed gay couples?

What republicans and these Christian bigots hate most are the regular gay folks who have raltionships and families. Because they don't look like their propaganda. So these families have to be dstroyed by actions of people like Craig.

The hypocrisy troubles me, but...
... him being gay is none of our business. I do believe he is gay; this is not the first "incident" by a long shot. It goes back to the early 1980s.

Him being arrested over lewd conduct... well that may be of public interest. But other than that, him being gay is nobody's business but his own.

I'm dismayed by the gay rights activists who out gays they see as hypocritical (e.g., those who are against same-sex marriage or who support family values). They create a situation of terror for gays who are not yet able to capitalize on the acceptance that the likes of "Will & Grace" has created in our culture.

< < I couldn't help but recall hearing Bill Clinton swear he "did not have sex with that woman." > >

Actually, he said he "did not have *sexual relations* with that woman," which is a true statement, if "sexual relations" means "sexual intercourse," which my dictionary says it does (as at least one definition).

And it was really none of our business one way or the other. Hillary's business, yes, and possibly Chelsea's, but no one else's.

If you wouldn't mind the details of your own sexual history printed in the local paper, then I guess you can demand that of someone else's without being a hypocrite, but most people wouldn't want that. It's a privacy issue, and it's sort of sad that we now think that we have a right to know all about the private lives of famous people.

dems call themselves tender hearted
Dems like to call republicans hypocrites for not living up to their ideals but dems happily destroy and humiliate men and don't consider themselves hypocrites with the media in unquestioning lockstep. Dems are corrupt as in Pelosi, Murtha and Feinstein. Murtha calls fellow Haditha Marines cold blooded murderers before a trial, taking the side of the enemy, but dems are "warm and tender". Yeah right.

Testing. Where are my comments going? They aren't posting.

Double standard
I have no idea what Craig really is and neither does anyone else here. What I have found eternally interesting, thoug, is how the Left proclaims their tolerance of anything because "to each his own." They have few if any absolute standards for themselves. When someone who has some standards, yet fails to live up to them just once, the scream hypocricy.

One can only be hypocritical if one believes in something and fails to live up to it. The Left gives itself a pass by believing in everything and nothing, so no matter what they do it's OK and don't anyone dare find fault.

With Craig, they aren't decrying his actions for what those actions are, but the hypocrisy. In other words, he failed to live up to his own standards. Does anyone who HAS standards EVER live up to them all the time?

The ONLY way to never fail to live up to standards is to have none. The only way never to be a hypocrite is to believe in nothing. The moral relativism of the Left exempts them from every being hypocrites.

Libs are also hypocrites!

No purple, we were constantly told by the feminists that ANY sex between a man in power and a subordinate female co-worker constituted SEXUAL HARASSEMENT!! But of course, that all changed with the Bubba. Suddenly it became an extramarital affair. But I guess that all depends on what the definition of sex is.

BTW, it did become the publics business whne the Bubba used the Oval Office for his own personal gratification and then proceeded to "LIE UNDER OATH" about it in a sexual harassement civil lawsuit brought by a woman who, according to the courts, had a right to sue the Bubba.

But I guess with the libs, it's always "do as I say, not as I do"

Michael, you forgot to add...
...that liberal critics of those espousing Judeo-Christian values cannot possibly be hypocritical because there is not absolute moral basis that defines their philosophy.

It's que sera sera, with morals being defined on an "as you go" basis literally with each occurrence of a moral act, and often utterly contrary to ones before it.

impact
Actually Craig used his nonecistent standards to attack others who lived openly and courageously in a manner he didn't have guts to live.

Maybe you call that a personal standard by I do not. He filled his "standard" in anti-gay bigotry and hatred for those who dared to live openly gay lives and he punished especially committed gay couples because of it. He filled that "standard" to the brim, I would say.

But he lied, he lied all the time, constatly to verybosy. We're not discussing about some lapse here, we're talking about seasoned liar and a fraud who intentionally tried to disguise his homosexuality by attacking ferociously other gays. But the maybe he has stadards for gay sex, the arresting officer was very cute so maybe he had some standards after all... no relatoivism there. A clear standard: hate in public, ask for blowjobs in private.

He's a coward and a weasel. But that is obviously the conservative standard for a gay man. He deserves everything he gets.

Wysman
Isn't that just so sweet how even this is about liberals. You conservatives don't own a mirror, do you?

circumstances
Many times on these boards, and elsewhere, I have seen people posting about how US Reps and US Senators are "representatives" of the people and by the very nature of this "democracy" of ours should be reflecting the opinions of the majority of their constiuents who voted them into their respective offices, regardless of their own personal opinions on issues (recall the debates over the "comprehensive immigration reform" bill in the US Senate). Well, I have no doubt in my mind that when it comes to the issue of "gay marriage" and other "family values" issues, Sen Craig has faithfully represented the opinions of those who elected him to office, regardless of his personal opinions.
Further, I have a very hard time with "he said/she said" and/or "he said/he said" accusations. Someone is seen in a "gay bar" and what is the conclusion? That person is gay? Isn't necessarily so, and not even if they were seen talking to another of their own sex in that bar and/or leaving the bar with that person; many circumstances could be involved. Does Sen Craig look "gay"? If I call a reporter and deliver juicy "gossip" about someone does that make this gossip gospel? Have innocent individuals been caught up in "sting" operations ever? YOU BET THEY HAVE.
When the man admits that he is gay; that's when I'll make my decision. Though I may have the greatest of suspicions, it simply is too important of a defining personal attribute to be surrendered to others, much less our MSM, to make.

This is thin
Sure dems are celebrating. Didn't Republicans celebrate when the Clinton thing was exposed and wasn't there a lot of righteous indignation expressed by many Republicans whose own behaviors if exposed would have been just as scandalious. Politics is a cesspool and neither party has a stellar record.

But the fact is that Republican voters care more about family issues then Demoncratic voters. This means that more of then are likely to conclude that neither party is worthy of their vote and stay home on election day. Right now the scandals are all coming from the right and there is a momentum building.

As to the press, this is too juicy a story to ignore and the Media is in the business of selling advertising. Sex and scandal draw in eyeballs.

Hypocracy aside, the fact is the higher you position your self on an issue the further you fall.

All Republicans
in congress should watch over their shoulder because i have no doubt the socialist liberals have employed someone to follow each of them.

The MSM said the story "leaked" out 11 days after the incident. It was kept out on purpose by the Liberal & MSM mob. It was released after Mr Gonzales resigned(the big story at the time) and was released at a time when it would be most effective.
Did tax payers pay the liberal stalkers or rich liberals? It is a valid question.

oh wow the clinton thing
brought up by a liberal as an example of how republicans just cant deal with their own repressed sexuality.

HOGWASH

Let me be clear this Sen. Graig should resign this morning and be moved out of his office by Monday. Not because he may be gay. But because he is an elected official and (if the acount is true, which at this time I will assume it is)he has broke his oath of office and broken the law and then showed such poor judgement in handling the episode.

This is also the reason this republican wanted Clinton impeached. Not because he was a cheating husband(although not the thing to be proud of) But because he used his presidential power to obstuct the ability of a citizen to seek justice in a matter in which through his action he brought upon himself in the first place

doug
Does that demend also include congressman Vitter. After all prostitution is illegal bot in DC and Louisiana. Or is just soliciting for gay sex more heinous crime than bying a services of a prostitute?

Maybe Craig should have turned to a male prostitute? It would have been the family values way to go, obviously. After all there has been plenty of willingness to forgive Vitter, after all the guy is straight so whatever he does is more acceptable to begin with.

I want Craig to hang onto his seat as long as possible. It'll hurt the repugnants and it's always good for America.

for Vic
Vic writes: "libtards, is it like Albore? Pushing actions against global warming when you have a carbon footprint bigger than Mt. Everest."

The difference is that Craig pleaded guilty to a criminal offense, and then tried to use his status as a Senator to get the whole thing hushed up. And that takes hypocrisy to a whole new level.

Craig broke the law. He broke a law designed to enforce just those Christian values that Craig has always claimed to uphold.

for PhillupSpace
PhillupSpace writes: "So which is it, Democrats and liberal media. If it is so wonderful and unbiased to embrace and
glamourize the gay lifestyle why are you suddenly acting like it is sinful just because it is a Republican "flirting in the can?"

Because Democrats and liberals want gays and lesbians to be able to have sexual relationships openly, proudly and LEGALLY. Craig broke the law while simultaneously claiming to support the law. On the liberal blogs, they have actually said they are against the entire concept of sting operations that target gays. That means they are being morally consistent, which Craig was not.

If a liberal Democrat claimed to support affirmative action for minorities but was revealed to be a secret member of a neo-Nazi white supremacist organization today, the Dems and liberals would turn on him too.

for impact
impact writes: "They have few if any absolute standards for themselves."

Sure they do. They're just not your standards.

You consider homosexuality to be immoral. Liberals consider waging aggressive wars of choice to be immoral.

You consider abortion to be immoral. Liberals consider criminalizing pro-choice women to be immoral.

And so on.

Liberals have a consistent moral code. It's just very different from yours, because theirs is secular rather than based on Christianity.

Hypocrisy
has much to recommend itself. Without it, evil men would not even pretend to do good. The public charity that they give would go to their private vices. The pious platitudes that they mouth would go unspoken, and perhaps some child would thereby go uninformed and not uplifted. Hypocrisy is a leash -- would it be better to let the mad dogs run wild?

If we cannot repent of our sins, let's at least keep them secret. The world, after all, is not a church, where public confession will lead to forgiveness. Indeed, the issue isn't confession but actions. Imagine all the degrading but not unlawful things that we would have to see everyday, if vile people were not constrained by some token gesture to probity. God cares about hypocrisy. We should care about our own purity. But do we have to worry about the filth of the world being swept under carpets?

Crime of course is another matter. We have a legal system to deal with that, as it has done with Sen. Craig. And his judgment is so poor that public opinion will deal with his career. But let's not be so foolish as to worry about his hypocrisy. It's only his behavior that need concern us.

Allow me to commend my specific thoughts on Sen. Craig:

Typical!
Patrick writes: "Craig should resign or be immediately expelled. There is no place in Congress for a pervert."

First off, he's not a pervert. He's a closeted gay man.

Second, are you saying that being gay disqualifies a person from Congress?

Shiite where
do you see me making excuses for the man. I make no excuses he should be gone just as Mark Foley should have been. I dont think you cave on rumors or "serious allegations". But it does nothing but harm Republicans to shore up lawbreakers and those that try to make things "go away". Van if Vitter's situation is such that it is proven or that he admits he has broken the law then sure hes out of here, are you just as willing to deny office to any lawbreaking scandle ridden democrat?

hey the double posting fix is..
If you hit the post your comments and your post does not show hit the refresh button at the top of the screen.

Why did Barnie Frank not resign--he was envolved in prostitution?
Bill and Hillary committed more crimes than the James gang, Bonnie and Clyde and John Dilinger combined, and stupid morons like you stood by them.
People like you are lower than a snake's belly.

Remember BJBill Clinton?
It was just sex!
It's his private life!

All you blow hard libs were just falling all over each other repeating those DLC talking points.
You contort the principles you used to defend BJBill and underscore your hypocrisy.

If democrats consider "aggressive wars of choice" immoral, why did so many of them vote to authorize the one we're currently in?

Gay is really a deadly virus
Most Gays have HIV resulting in a weak immune system.

They are thus susceptible to deadly viruses like the new drug resistant TB.

Normally Gays only infect by sex other Gays, however if this TB starts to take hold Gays will be the first to get it. They will pass it on to everybody now.

The Gay lifestyle (98%) of promiscuous sex anytime any place with any one at any age should be a concern to everyone.

Gays are a major threat to the health of not only themselves but everyone.

Concerns about Mr. Craig are trivial to his overall threat to everyone's health.

Gay is a deadly virus.

Gay is potentially destructive to everyone's health.

After all who are the Gays--heterosexual offspring-- loved ones.

Does anyone care that Gays will die an early death. They enter a sex cult and they die early. It gets worse.

Does anyone really care about the health of a Gay or the harm they pose to everyone.

Gay is a health issue-------------Wake up America!

StevelL
How do you know he "hushed" it up. What is your evidence? There is just as much reason to believe that the MSM was waiting for the next election to "expose" it in October but somebody local decided it was too juicy.

And the onlyh reason Albore hasn't been convicted is because he hasn't been charged and he should be. In any case, it doesn't take being convicted or pleading guilty to be a hypocrite. All you have to do espouse a belief that you don't follow yourself. You know, like a liberal commentor holding a conservative to a standard that they don’t hold liberals to.

purplestater
You are a voice of reason. I agree with your point of view. I don't mind that certain people are gay. What I mind is the "in your face" attitude that they have when they march down the streets in their pride parades grabbing each other's asses.

When I was in school, many years ago by the way, there were two physical ed teachers (female)in my school, and we all knew they were lesbians. It was just one of those things that everyone knew but no one talked about. It was their own business and no one intruded.

Our media today plays on the lascivious appetites of their readers by making everyone's sex lives an open book. It's sickening, and you are right, no one can stand up under that kind of scrutiny.

Me: Of course he's a pervert - he's homosexual - and now he's a convicted perp as well.

MellorSJ2:

Second, are you saying that being gay disqualifies a person from Congress?

Me:

Here's the Congressional Oath of Office that each member must swear:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

"Gays" by definition are domestic enemies of the Constitution, working to undermine it on behalf of their personal choice, so for one of them to swear it constitutes perjury.

Don't ever forget: "gays" are violent, they molest kids and they spread diseases. There is no greater enemy facing America today.

Van
Frank's boyfriend was running a house of prostitution out of Frank's house. It's hard to imagine that Frank was unaware of that.

In any case, by the current civil forfeiture laws which are being used all over the nation, they could have charged his house with a crime under civil law and took it. You guys are so up on the dangers of the Patriot Act but you have nothing to say about laws that confiscate people’s assets without being convicted of anything.

a few of my favorite things

The third to most amusing thing about these kinds of scandals is that you can read about the lewd details in family newspapers without being accused of patronizing pornography. The second to most amusing aspect is the parade of partisan finger-pointers who shriek, "You see? Their people are even more repellent than our people."

Most amusing is the insistence of the miscreant that the public weal will suffer irreparably if his job description and career are not allowed to continue in the manner to which he has become accustomed. Like looking for another job will entail unbearable suffering or inevitably lead to the demise of our great republic.

I've got news for Senator Blutarsky or any other aspiring bloviators, blowhards and self-important indispensibles. We ordinary citizens have plenty of others among us who are equally qualified.

Catch 22
If a liberal commits a disgusting act, then it sufficient to conclude that all liberals are bad. But now they've managed to twist it so tight that even if a conservative commits a disgusting act, it still shows that all liberals are bad. What's next? Static cling is proof that liberals are bad? Where's John Stossil when you need him?

To Paul
It's getting harder to tell the difference on townhall between satire and serious intent. Are you also the person who posted that gay people sneak into blood banks so that they can deliberately contaminate the blood supply with the AIDS virus (which they all have, of course)?

Had your head examined lately?
Patrick spews: "Don't ever forget: "gays" are violent, they molest kids and they spread diseases. There is no greater enemy facing America today."

What a load of codswallop!

Please get a grip on yourself.

I won't dignify Paul's spew...
..by repeating it.

I'll just ask for evidence for each of his sick assertions.

Where do these people (Patrick, Paul, Kathy, Luis, mick, etc) get their silly ideas from?

steveM and purple star
Both of you are out in left field re Clinton. Of course, Clinton's sexual behavior is private and it is not sex harrassment if you have sex with a subordinate. That is made up. The only place that is taboo is student and instructor. Private companies may have their own policies. But there is no law that public officials cant have affairs with their secretaries.

Although Clinton's sex with monica should be off limits, it is Clinton and liberals that made it on limits because it is they that passed sex harrassment legislation and in 1993 expanded the law with Clinton's signature that in a sex harrassment case(and clinton was sued by paula jones) it is legal and proper to ask the defendant,Clinton, about his sex life since he was born to see if there is a pattern and to find other women who had sex with them and ask them questions. That is how monica got into the case.
So Clinton and liberals are resposible for forcing one to make public what should be nobody's business. And worse, in Clinton admin 3 or 4 people went to jail for what Clinton did.
Of course, I see neither liberals or conservatives asking to repeal such laws, It only people like me and Carmen Paglia who think these laws should go into the trashbin.

Patrick
Has it not occurred to you that the problem with Craig is not that he is gay, if he is, but that he evidenced poor judgment in a way that no Senator should? 1) He engaged in a behavior that is risky socially, legally, professionally, and medically. 2) He signed a guilty plea without legal counsel. 3) He then tried to reneg on the guilty plea, which a lawyer on TV said is nearly impossible to put through and that a lawmaker should have known that. 4) He thought that pleading guilty would "make this go away"---as if a restroom sting involving a Senator would EVER go away. To me this whole affair is about poor judgment. A Senator must have good judgment in his work of lawmaking.

If the gay community has not rushed to Craig's defense, it may be that they deplore his POOR JUDGMENT.

Did you know that nazis caled Jews "a deadly virus" that needs to be "cured".

The amount of viciousness and pure unadulterated evil in your message is breathtaking.

and same goes to oatrick

have you any idea how insulting and vicious statements like that are. If people believe the lies you spread here the lives of all gays would be in danger but then, what do you care. you want them to believe those vicious things you say.

There is no comparison to evil of conservative mind. total indifference to the suffering you willingly and happily cause to others... and you talk about morality and family values. the only value you have is hate.

THIS IS NOT CHAPPAQUIDDICK!!!
The Democrats, leftists, liberals, and MSM are thrilled with one more reason to bash Republicans and accuse them of hypocrisy because of the sexual misconduct of some of their members.

None of this, however, compares to Ted Kennedy at Chappaquiddick. In July 1969, Mary Jo Kopechne died in Ted Kennedy's big black Oldsmobile. Ted Kennedy escaped from the car that that had plunged into Poucha Pond, called his lawyer, and pulled out all the stops to prevent any criminal indictment. Any average Joe would have been charged with manslaughter, convicted, the sent to prison. Leftists and liberals rallied around Kennedy after Chappaquiddick.

Ted Kennedy failed to outrun President Jimmy Carter in 1980 when he made a serious run for President. However, he continues to ride high, more popular then ever with leftists and liberals, and is certain to be Massachusetts Senator until the day he dies.

pandm
Really? I love comparisons like that. They seem to border on neurosis.

paul: That goes for you too. Or are you just reaching for humor through the ridiculous?

a: Careful, that sword cuts both ways.

I can’t wait to see how this thread unfolds.

Idaho
The only opinion that actually matters is the opinion of the voters from Idaho - who elected Craig. Having grown up in that state, my bet is that they get rid of him. Idaho is not New York or San Francisco. The 1 million people who live their are conservative, and Craig's admission of guilt, whatever the spin he puts on it, will be irrelevant. For most in Idaho, he crossed a line. So he will be gone.

His only option is to gracefully accept that fact, and leave the stage.

You are quite rational and HS. Gee whiz. Good. I have lesbian neighbor who is quite leftist and when I mentioned to her that BUsh had hired more HS than any other president her response is the leftist spewing: Oh! They were conservative. Gee whiz, What would you expect.
the problem here is reifying HS or hetersex into some kind of thing like a stone instead of realizing that humans are complex characters and are not to simply defined by this or that aspect. Nothing is to be gained by argueing whether Craig is really gay. What seems to be the case here is someone with HS implusives in very cold, furtive sex lasting 2 minutes. Like someone who visits prostitutes for 2 minutes in very non-personal relationship. He is not happy with his impulses like a compulsvie eater. he marries, This is not negative and does not make him a hypocrite. If he opposes gay marriage so do some gays. I would call him a hypocrit only if he had a warm, loving relationship with gays and then went into gay bashing because in that case he is living a rewarding life as a HS and not just being subject to compulsive urges.

I feel sorry for the guy. He would in just as much trouble if he were masturbating in the toilet to hetersexual fantasies and the door opened so everyone could see. The soicety has become so sensationalistic.

If i had my wishes I would have clark kent's eyes, photo every congressman and reporter in their sexual activites and have it all on utube. That would cure all from doing this stuff.

Euphemisms I
Euphemism, a word or phrase used in place of a term that might be considered too direct, harsh, unpleasant, or offensive, is the trademark of the homosexual community. For their own selfish reasons they have collectively usurped a term of the English language and purposely misapplied it to suit their own agenda. Following World Was One American doughboys returned to an America ensconced in Prohibition Laws making drinking alcohol and having booze related fun activities illegal. During the early 1920’s – before the Roaring Twenties Era – these many former doughboys immigrated back to France, back to “Gai Paree” where they left many pretty demoiselles behind crying dans les chamber du lit. Known as the “Lost Generation” these young men returned to a Paris known for its gaiety; ergo gay atmosphere, to have sex with the women they knew during the war. Also, never forget the wonderful film “Gay Divorcee” (1934) with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers which had nothing to do with homosexuality.

Euphemisms II
The Idaho senator said “I am not gay!” which is truthful because at that moment he was emotionally miserable so his words in the clear said nothing as to his personal sexual interests. As a Conservative I could not care less how he conducts his personal affairs. If he has led a schizoid lifestyle before his family it is his family’s business. If he has deceived the voters of Idaho then it is their business to reject or retain his services; but, for him to use the gay euphemism to conceal further his emotional secrets leaves this person vacuous with contempt. Stealing language is theft of my “free speech” so that when I want to employ the adjective “Gay” I must search out a euphemistic expression instead as opposed to expressing my thoughts in the simplest and clearest terms. On this point I am determined to fight the Barney Franks and the rest of the Homosexual Mafia who typically use a term synonymous with happy while they politically feign to be miserable and feign to be impoverished when their personal obligations are limited to themselves or a similar small grouping of adults communally collecting fortunes.

Hello len
I have no idea why your post of 09:00 was addressed to me.

I never said he was a hypocrite, nor made any statement about whether he opposed gay marriage. I am not an Idaho voter, and I have no interest in the details of this case.

(That said, I cannot understand for the life of me why the police are wasting time setting up stings for gay people while murders, rapes and robberies go unsolved, and while it is hard to find a cop on the beat--except in public restrooms, apparently.)

I will not, however, stand by while people hurl insults at gay people (not that I said _you_ did.)

mellors32
I addressed to you because most of the comments are all screeds; and I totally agree that this is a waste of police efforts. And I agrew with you that such episodes bring out the worst in people.

As I said, if anyone who posts here with nonsense could have their own sex lives, what they read and look at, and what they fantasize on UTUBE everytime they spoke nonsnese, it would cure nosense.

Great comparison
Bill Clinton had an extramarital heterosexual affair with a consenting adult female he met at work.
Larry Craig performs gay sex acts on strange men he meets in public washrooms.
The next time someone asks you the difference between Democrats and Republicans, now at least you'll know what to tell them.

Consenting adults: Kathleen Willey, Paula Jones, Dolly Kyle Browing, Juanita Broderick, all concenting adults. Right!
Unlike dems most Republicans are not defending Larry Craig and I didn't get that from this article. This man is toast and will not be a senator from Idaho for very long. Let's face it you libs would gladly endorse him if he would ride on the NAMBLA float in the next gay pride parade in San Fran with speaker Nan. You like to throw around the hypocrite label but the act of homosexual sex with a strange man in an airport restroom doesn't bother you at all in fact you find it a career enhancement. If he were a dem like that HYPOCRITE McGreevey who made his "lover" the chief of homeland security in NJ he would be on the Oprah Show celebrating his liberation. "Free at last free at last." This man lied to his voters and for that needs to resign and move to San Francisco.

Me: What are you looking for? Respect? Any male who allows an erect member to be thrust up his rectum doesn't deserve any.

And the truth also hurts, doesn't it? So-called "gays" constitute about 1% of the US population but are responsible for more than 50% of all the child molestation cases.

The very terms "lesbian" and "sapphic love" come from Sappho of Lesbos, the headmistress perp who molested the young girls entrusted to her care.

"Gays" look upon those terms with "gay pride".

"Gays" deserve all the contempt that they have earned.

Sick pervert
Really, Patrick. That's what you are.

Can't agree with you on this point though: "Gays deserve all the contempt that they have earned."

As they have earned NONE, then clearly the contempt you (and others on this glorious site) show to gay people was not earned at all, was it?

And then conservatives wonder why children need to be taught in school to respect gay people!

MellorSJ2
MellorSJ2 writes:
"Where do these people (Patrick, Paul, Kathy, Luis, mick, etc) get their silly ideas from?"

Me: From facts.

"Gays" perpetrate the most vicious acts of violence to such an extent that whenever a mass murder, a serial murder or an especially gruesome murder takes place, the police first look at the homosexuals to find the perp. Instances of "gays" ramming lightbulbs and other bizarre objects up their "boyfriends" have kept many an emergency room staff entertained. There's a reason most S&M is "gay". And the propensity to commit violence is the reason.

"Gays" not only have spread AIDS, but their weird practices involving drinking urine and eating fecal matter are also responsible for the spread of most STDs; hepatitis and cholera. All of which have killed millions. By comparison, "gays" make Hitler, Stalin, and even Mao look like miserable amateurs.

As I've noted in another post, "gays" are 1% of the population but commit more than half of the child molestations. Even the names "Lesbian" and "Sapphic" come from a headmistress perp in ancient Greece who molested the young girls under her care.

That's the record of "gays" in this world. Let me make this clear:

"Gays" have no rights that I am required to respect. Period.

South Africa may lock up "killer TB" patients
published Tuesday, January 23, 2007
According to Hippocrates, doctors are supposed to do no harm. But that doesn't
mean they can't lock up their patients.
A trio of doctors argue in a paper published in an international medical journal
Monday that people who refuse treatment for a frighteningly drug-resistant form
of tuberculosis should be forcibly detained in hospitals or other health care
facilities in South Africa. It is an extreme -- but not unheard of -- measure to
keep the infected away from others to curb the spread of the disease.
Since detecting extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis, also known as XDR-TB,
in South Africa last year, health officials have called for increased measures
to combat the strains, including better surveillance, diagnostics, and drugs.
In their paper in the Public Library of Science Medicine journal, Drs. Jerome
Amir Singh, Ross Upshur and Nesri Padayatchi propose that XDR-TB patients who
refuse treatment be involuntarily detained. Singh and Padayatchi are at the
Centre for AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa, and Upshur is the
director of the Joint Centre for Bioethics at the University of Toronto.
Ronnie Green-Thompson, an adviser to the South African Department of Health,
said the idea had been discussed by health experts in South Africa and
elsewhere, and was possible.

Gays become violent
Gay Activists Assault Ex-Gay, Trash Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays Booth
at Fair
Activist struck PFOX ex-gay over testimony about leaving homosexual
lifestyle
By Peter J. Smith

ARLINGTON, Virginia, August. 28, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Angry
homosexual activists harassed and assaulted ex-homosexuals at the
Arlington County Fair last week, according to an ex-gay educational and
support group.

Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays (PFOX) reports its volunteers were
distributing education materials on same-sex attraction and awareness of
ex-homosexuals at their fair booth. Homosexual activists approached them
and created a disturbance, spewing obscenities and dashing materials from
the exhibit table.

The group demanded that PFOX leave the fairgrounds, recognize "same-sex
spouses" and rejected arguments that homosexuals could change their sexual
orientation although they admitted they knew heterosexuals who had done
the same.

The confrontation escalated after one activist struck a PFOX ex-gay
volunteer after becoming infuriated over the man's testimony about leaving
the homosexual lifestyle. A police officer then ejected the activist from
the fairgrounds, although the ex-homosexual volunteer declined to press
charges citing the example of Jesus Christ.

The incident, while not uncommon in PFOX experience, continues to
highlight homosexual activists' rejection of tolerance and equal access
ideas opposing and competing with the homosexual agenda.

PFOX said that several homosexuals had identified themselves as teachers
and would make sure that PFOX ex-homosexual materials would not reach
teenagers in schools as pro-homosexual materials do.

Provide your evidence, Patrick
Of course, you can't, but that doesn't mean that you'll stop spreading these lies. Sigh.

You might also check out some of the "more interesting" practices you mention above. You'll find that many more straight people engage in them than gay people.

But then, while claiming your spew is "facts", you're not actually interested in that. Just hate.

Yet the dims have always turned a blind eye to their members and their moral short-comings. Swimmer kennedy took a young girl to the beach for sex games, drove off a bridge and was more concerned about saving his political future than attemting to save the woman. His punishment a long term of service in the senate, accolades as the lion of the party and the party even backing his attempts to run for president. Real punishment for a senator involved in murder. But then again he is a dim and the always get a pass. question
I keep seeing all these posts regarding craig's "performance of gay sex acts on strange men he meets in public washrooms","asking for blowjobs in private", "committing a disgusting act", ect...

Um, What sex act? What BJ? What disgusting act?

Again, there is far more howling about what did NOT physically occur (foley) when pubs are involved, than what DID physically occur when dems are involved (studds).

IOW, thoughts trump deeds.

I will never understand the illogic.

Liberalism HAS to be a mental disorder manifested by a compulsive need to control and destroy.

patrick stop making a fool of yourself
Ben laden et al are much better hetersexuals than you are considering they share their hetersexuality with more than one women in a legal manner according to their religion.

Following your reasoining, hetersexuals are mass murderers.

Me: You're right about Craig's poor judgment, but the important thing to remember is that Craig's first and most critical lapse in judgment occurred when he first decided to become a perp and chose to commit homosexual acts.

Sex Crime
Plead nolo contendre (no contest)? To a sex crime? Are you crazy? And let them sentence you under a sex crime? Note that people who plead "no contest" are not freed as not guilty. That merely says they are not admitting guilt and are throwing themselves on the mercy of the court. Let's see, a class 5 (the least severe) sex crime in Minnesota is up to a year in jail and I think a $10000 fine. And maybe have to register with the police for the rest of your life? Or, you can pay us $500 and plead guilty to this vague and nebulous "disorderly conduct". Which would you choose? Darn straight. So would I. A mere $500 to make it go away with a misdemeanor.

And all for tapping your foot in a men's stall at the Minneapolis airport. Well, let that be a lesson to us all.

Trial?
It's easy to say, "Why didn't Craig offer to go to trial?" What, and spend hundreds of thousands or millions on his defense? And have his name smeared all over the papers in the country, "Craig denies sex crimes, but leading experts doubtful." Who would choose that? Make it all go away for $500. No contest. The real question is how the Minneapolis police will arrest someone for tapping his foot. Just because gays recognize something as a come-on doesn't mean others do. A sex crime with no talking, no offer, no proposition, no money? What's next? Will the Minneapolis police be arresting anyone with a multi-colored bag strap?

Gay or not gay: that is the question
Senator Craig has given the pod people something to laugh at, play with and generally have fun with for as long as they can keep the story alive. As someone who is not a member of the Senate, but who thinks he generally knows how these things work, I have to believe every Senator knew Craig was gay or at least wobbly on gender identity. I was surprised to find out Rock Hudson was gay, but everyone in Hollywood knew it.

My advice: if you are a young man hoping for a successful life among the high rollers, and you have urges to be sexually intimate with other young men, you have two choices. (1) You decide you will never give in to those urges, but will maintain the appearance of a normal heterosexual absolutely and without exception for the rest of your life. Or (2) you will opt for the life of a gay man, with whatever drawbacks that might entail for you, and tough it out.

Those who believe everyone has to follow his urges in order to "be fulfilled" as a person will argue that choice #1 is not an option. These are the same people who believe no Catholic priest ever is or ever can be celibate. Weak people always want to believe everyone is weak.

Obviously, Sen. Craig did not face these choices honestly, and clearly he is not a strong person.
In retrospect, it would have looked so much better for him had it been revealed he had a gay lover. Prowling men's rooms in airports and train stations is tacky.

holtonfb
by the way .. the mainstream media sat on the story since June .. it was Roll Call . a limited circulation publication in DC aimed at the professional government readership in the nation's capital ..they broke the story .. not the papers in Idaho .. working this along for those who sauy this is a "personal story" and not for publication ..would you say that about a wife beater .. someone who owns stock in an Iranian company ..a practicing fundementalist moslem ....
finishing this up .. I think Craig should get his guilty plea thrown out .. and go to trial .. with reinstatement of the lewd behavior charge .. now that would be tabloid TV ..and the ratings on Court TV would be the best since the involving that football player ....

Senator Craig's Humiliation
Van, a little nit-picking here. Larry Craig was 37 when he married Suzanne Scott. Ms. Scott was not his aide, rather she was Executive Director of the Idaho Beef Council.

I know them both from my years in Idaho and I am sorry to see them disgraced. I agree with Charles Krauthammer, who said on Special Report, Tuesday, "It's not hypocrisy, it's humiliation."

Dixiecrat,
I'm a little confused here.

"Considering how Republicans worship money and greed and despise poor people it's amazing how they can lay claim to being the "values" party. Their "values" are the values of SATAN!"

Exactly what evidence do you have that these statements are true? Not screeds from others, but actual evidence. Are there any true, unbiased studies that show that self-proclaimed 'Republcians' are likely to worship money or greed (even in the sense of elevating such to the highest point in their lives, instead of 'hail dollar, full of value...') or that they actually despise poor people? I admit I'm no expert, but from what I've seen, I'm afraid I'd have to say that I have never seen such a study.

Reading this thread has been a laugh a minute, between Robert, the phallus-obsessed Van, and the rest of the usual gang of idiots.

Just a little injection of reality for the fantasy-based crowd; I'll bet long odds that none of you ever even heard of Craig until this week. The truth is Craig is a back-bencher, like most people in the Senate. Most of the country (outside of Idaho) didn't even know the guy existed until this story about him playing footsie in the men's room came out.

And if this guy was as big an anti-gay "hater" as Van likes to make out, again, why have we never heard of the guy until now? The most anyone can realistically say is that he voted for the gay marriage amendment. BFD. He's from Idaho, for crying out loud. Hate to break it to you all, but most people are against this gay marriage rot to start with. Deal with it.

In any case, there is no evidence that Craig is some kind of anti-gay ideologue, other than having committed the high crime of voting the way the people who put him in office wanted him to.

Leo writes:

"Patrick
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to find you to be a serial killer of gays. There so much sick hatred in your posts."

Me: Wrong. There is much proper hatred in my posts:

hatred for the violent, disease-spreading pedophiles collectively calling themselves "gays". Now, if you have issues with that kind of hatred, then that's YOUR problem.

Always remember: "gays" have no rights that anybody is required to respect.

Rampant hypocrisy. You got that right.
Good. He resigned from Senate Committees. Next? Force him from the Senate!

hypocrisy
"Democrats and the media define Craig as a hypocrite. By their twisted logic, therefore, anybody who espouses traditional Judeo/Christian values must also be a hypocrite," says Michael Reagan.

But . . . no. Nobody thinks that whoever espouses traditional "Judeo-Christian" values is a hypocrite. Hypocrites are people who publicly espouse one creed, and then live their private lives a completely different way. What is Michael Reagan talking about?

Higher Standards
One thing can be said for conservatives... we hold ourselves to a higher standard and expect it from our leaders. Perhaps that's because we HAVE standards above and beyond that of political expediency. However, we shouldn't be too quick to condemn, either. When you're a U.S. Senator and the urgent call of nature forces you to utilize an often unclean and crime-prone airport facility, wouldn't you want to know who's next to you? It's just possible that Senator Craig IS innocent... but dumb! If he does have "tendancies", though, he should resign immediately, like that congressman from Michigan did when it was revealed that he was a former homosexual. Standards of excellence must be maintained.

Patrick continues digging with ...
... "Always remember: "gays" have no rights that anybody is required to respect."

Happily, the courts have often disagreed with you.

More happily, younger people disagree with you.

How old are you, Patrick? You're either a child having some fun with your computer, or a wizened old fool. Which is it?

how funny
Now the name calling gets a little heavier. Let’s face it. Both sides have more than their fair share of hypocrites. The folks who blog at TH are no exception. Both sides have zealots and reactionaries who jump at any opportunity to stick it to the opposition yet who will bend and twist as much as possible to defend their own. Each side has their own particular venerable spot as each side has built their character along certain lines.

Dim stupidity redux
Don't get me wrong; the guy is clearly an idiot for having done what he was caught doing. He's already stepped down from his committee posts, at the Repub leadership's request, and I would bet long odds he'll have resigned before the holiday weekend is out.

Of course, those of you who don't smell a big LSM rat in how this story was handled are even dumber than I thought. Craig got popped back in June, yet the media sits on the story until the end of August?

This is just like the Foley case, in that the media knew about it for months but sat on it until the "appropriate" time. (BTW, I hear that the authorities are through investigating Foley, and no charges were filed, since they could not find that he'd broken any laws. What a surprise.)

Of course, only the most moronic of lefty trolls refuse to admit that the media doesn't even try to hide the fact that they are the official propaganda arm of the Dim Party. Rathergate proved that to anyone with more than two brain cells to rub together.

But again, yes, Craig is an idiot, and if the folks back home in Idaho are sufficiently POed at him, he should resign. Or he can wait until the next election and get his walking papers handed to him then. That between him and the people of Idaho. All the rest is just Dimbulb "neener-neener-neener" whining, which doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

kyjurisdoctor
do your sentiments also apply to william jefferson, barney frank and especially ted kennedy?

I spy
something that looks like a concerted effort to make this scandal (like so many others involving prominent members of the GOP) about something besides Larry Craig and his behavior. But let's not forget that Larry Craig, like Mark Foley, Tom Delay, Ted New Life Church, Scooter Libby, and all the rest did what they did. It is not liberals' fault they got busted. It is their own fault. Michael Reagan (and others) seem intent on shifting the blame. Aren't they embarrassed yet?

Ted's last name
Haggarty! I just remembered.

Can't hold it?
Clearly Craig was at fault for not being able to hold it for the short trip from Washington D.C. to Boise. I mean how long could it be? A mere 8 to 10 hours, or 12 at most. If this is all he could do, he is clearly unable to be an effective senator. (OK, people, this is sarcasm.)

Since I sometimes fly through the Minneapolis airport, I hope the authorities will post signs on the especially dangerous men's rest rooms. I'd hate to be moving my foot in those miniature stalls and be misinterpreted and arrested.

malouska
congress is only accountable for the actions of elected officials. Private citizens also commit outrages but they were voted into office by the public. Does your outrage include any of the following for their acts: ted kennedy, alcee hastings barney franks, william jefferson, harry reid, nancy pelosi, or the late gerry studds? Or are you more typical of the libs that come to these threads and only voice selective outrage if repubs are involved but conveniently overlook the misdeeds of the dims

Wildwest, who said I was outraged
I'm not outraged. I don't care, really. I'm just having fun and pointing out that this rush to defend Larry Craig by deflecting criticism away from him and on to liberals is playing out in a hauntingly familiar way.

malouska
who is defending craig? I am only pointing out selective outrage coming from the dims and those libs who are also painting all repubs as enablers. Others are pointing out that the outrage only runs one way and that both parties should be in the business of getting rid of the bad characters in their parties. Until the dims start cleaning house of their own, they lack any credibility on this issue

GOP Hypocrites
The issue with the senator being shameful of his gayness is tragic. The way that the GOP hypocrites are spinning it is hysterical.

This article typifies just how far out of touch today's "CONservative" really is from reality. These people are simply incapable of accepting personal accountability for anything, even when they themselves are not directly involved in the criminal or immoral behavior.

Far better to push the blame onto Bill Clinton or some other "evil librul" than to accept responsibility for one's own actions, and the diseased actions of a diseased fellow ideologue.

Let this be a lesson to you, kids. NEVER allow yourself to become rigidly married to a political party, to the point that you lose sight of right from wrong.

The simple fact is, the senator's criminal behavior is indicative of precisely why the GOP is currently in the minority at present, and Mr. Reagan's ignorant response to the criminal activity is indicative of why the party will remain firmly in the minority for some time to come.

And, ironically, it is specifically the type of absurd spinning and re-positioning that Mr. Reagan has engaged in with his article here that has caused the GOP to be seen as shameless hypocrites, time and time again.

I personally hope and pray that both political parties die, sooner rather than later, so that we can rebuild this nation from the ground up, without criminal lobbyists and corporate influence. So far, the GOP seems to be well on its wayc, and the writings of Mr. Reagan here only serve to support that cause.

One mild defense of Craig
I think he should resign and seek psychiatric help, and that he is a hypocrite and a liar who betrayed his wife and his constituents.

But, in his defense, at least he does not define his public policy positions according to his sexually deviant behavior. He voted according to a clear moral value system, consistant with his constituent's beliefs.

What amazes me is that the thing that liberals would change about him would be his voting record in defense of families, rather than his predilection for unhealthy, self-destructive sexual practices.

End of bother!!!
This is not something new, and it certainly is not something nice.

I remember 60 to 65 years ago I hitchhiked all over the place, sometimes hundreds of miles, and got stopped and was given a ride by all kinds of characters. I never let them bother me, although they tried often enough. I just ignored the actions, but never thought of turning the person in to law enforcement. I don't know if they would have cared.

One time I was hitch-hiking home from an Army camp, dressed in uniform. As I neared home a sheriff car stopped, picked me up and gave me a ride. After a few minutes of his messing around, I noticed his name tag. I then asked him if he remembered fighting in the Battle of the Bulge with my brother, and gave my brothers name. End of bother, he took me to my home!!! I never told a soul until now.

Let's see if we can come to an agreement:

-
All duly-convicted child molesters shall be put to death, regardless of the sex of the perp or the victim.
-

Do you agree?

I doubt very much that you will, because its enforcement in the United States would mean the end of homosexuality and the concomitant continuation of the heterosexuality of the species.

Hyprocracy
(Democrats and their leftist allies are dancing in the streets over his embarrassment, busily reminding every sympathetic reporter who will listen to them that the Idaho Senator not only espouses family values, but has been a staunch foe of gay marriage.)

Even though Craig is a hypocrite and even though the liberals are dancing for joy in the street this however does not lessen liberals from their own shame of being a party to Protecting Perverts.

m theory
exactly what criminal behavior are you referring to? Tapping your feet and touching fingers while a possible indicator of suggested gay activity but in itself is not a criminal act as nothing else occurred. No one has defended his actions yet you libs are howling cries of outrage. Both parties need to get rid of that bad characters but until the dims also express a desire to clean out there bad actors there is too much hypocrisy on the part of the dims. If the dims are so worried about bad behavior they wouldn't have been so adament in their defense of clinton who did commit criminal offenses. His moral lapses are subject to interpretation, but he did violate a law he signed concerning contact between supervisors and those who worked for them. But typical of libs outrage only runs one direction.

Behavior vs characterizations
One thing that always seems to happen as a story such as this gets recirculated is that what actually happened gets replaced by characterizations. So people talk about Craig's "idiotic" behavior, "hypocritical" behavior, or "criminal" behavior. Well, what was this behavior? In a (presumably small) airport stall, Craig either tapped his foot or moved his foot and it ended up close to (or perhaps touching) the foot of the person in the next stall (who apparently was trying to move his foot closer). So that's criminal behavior? Moving your foot? Or touching another person's foot in a crowded situation? OK, all you people in that city crowd...... you're all under arrest!!

m-theory
The GOP has been absolutely consistent in its dealing with the Craig incident and the Foley incident: we demand accountability! No Republican has come to the defense of either man, and are probably more outraged when one of their own steos out of line in this way.

If Republicans started saying "hey, its just about sex", or "even a senator has the right to a private life" then you would have a case for hypocrisy on the part of the GOP.

If this had happened to a Clinton, we would by now know the complete life history of the arresting officer, and HIS name would be dragged through the mud. Don't believe me? Ask Linda Tripp, Kathleen Willy, Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky and Ken Starr.

Huh?
I'm sorry but I don't see anything hypocritical in the left's condemnation of Craig as a hypocrite.

The left's favorite weapon is the charge of hypocrisy. It is their tool because they have fewer value statements to fall back upon, and to to live up to. The left in France, for example, is for nothing, but very strongly against .... fascism. With this value structure the left cannot so much complain that its enemies are unethical - but they can complian that its enemies do not live up to their own conservative values.

Since nobody is perfect, what we have is a Left without values and a Right without integrity.

He looks like somebody's Grand-daddy...
It's quite possible that he could have sat there innocently tapping his foot. Any indication that he knew anything about it being a gay come on? Did the cop realize he had a Senator in the next stall? Still continued with the 'set up'? Quite a BOLD COP not to back off once he found out he had been 'playing footsies' with a SENATOR! He should have stayed quiet until he spoke with his lawyer! For sure! (Wouldn't gay guys KNOW BETTER that to fall for such a set up?)

gwco2skeptic
I tend to think that if this had happened to a Clinton we never would have heard about it, except maybe a piece in the alternative conservative magazines (National Review, Weekly Standard, Commentary, etc). But I think you're right that if a Clinton-related story did get out, it would be the accusers who would have to defend themselves against an all-out Democrat-media attack. I can see the headlines now: "Arresting Officer called Untrustworthy - Retention on Force a Problem? Democrats Demand Investigation".

From Tuesday's Minneapolis Star-Tribune
"In talking to people in the criminal-justice system, at both the county and the city levels, it becomes clear that they are stretched to the max.

"The sex-crimes unit of the Minneapolis Police Department has been reduced from 10 officers to four, who are responsible for investigating an average of 1,300 cases a year, and that doesn't include oversight of the 2,500 registered sex offenders living in Minneapolis. "Do the math," said an officer we spoke with. "We're not checking on them." The math also means that many cases aren't being assigned an investigator -- and no investigation means no charges can be brought.

"A county prosecutor said she is outraged over the low number of filings of child-abuse cases due to budget cuts in the police department's Family Violence and Sex Crimes units, which, she says, makes it impossible for the officers to keep up with investigating child-abuse cases."

Comment-Funny that they should have time to hang out in the Airport men's room.

Seems like the Repubs prefer the closet
I find it interesting that these sicko hypocrite Republicans keep their dirty little gay sex acts secret. On the surface one would expect this kind of behavior from gay liberal Democrats. However, the Dems are more comfortable acknowledging who and what they are for all to see.
Senator Craig is clearly a hypocrite. And, it doesn't make any difference if you lean left or right to see that. He should be critically embarassed and ashamed, and the citizens of Idaho should replace him with another Senator as soon as possible.

Hypocrites? again...
"However, the Dems are more comfortable acknowledging who and what they are for all to see."

Umm who was it who said "I did not have sex with that woman"? Clinton was not a hypocrite to his own value system, as he does not have one (see my note above) but he was a hypocrite as he PRETENDED to have a value system and to live by it.

The Craig Affair
Is this the best place Senator Craig could find to
have a sexual affair, a public restroom? Then to add insult to injury, the senator tells us he is not gay, never was gay, and in the next breath he tells us he over reacted when he plead guilty.

The Senator is simply digging himself deeper into the hole. Come on Senator Craig, get real. You should resign from your position. Get a divorce from your wife, go find you a boy friend and establish a male/male partnership. Tell us Senator, have you given any rim jobs lately? From the police report, we do know you like oral activity. At least the report does not leave much to the imagination.

Barry!
This will be a bigger problem for Republicans than Democrats until the end of time, as long as Republicans stand on the morality soapbox.

A return to the more Libertarian roots of the party and less attention paid to what people do in their bedrooms and on their Sunday mornings might serve the party well. Sadly, decades of Republicans kissing the feet of our nations prostelytizers has made our party dependant on their support. So, a return to Libertarianism is now neigh impossible.

Barry Goldwater, where are you when we need you?

"When you say “radical right” today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye."

"Everyone knows that gays have served honorably in the military since at least the time of Julius Caesar....You don't have to be straight to be in the military; you just have to be able to shoot straight.”

PeterE
Clinton's hypocisy didn't come from the fact that he had an extramarital affair, it came from the fact that he wrote the toughest sexual-harrassment law ever, even though he had a penchant for hitting on the hired help. The man propped himself up as a champion of women's rights, despite his harrassment of Paula Jones, and sexual assaults against Kathleen Willy and Juanita Broderick.

larry craig
if craig were a closeted homesexual who would have known. That he was married would indicate a heterosexual life. How and why would anyone know or suspect craig had this secret. Further why should a person's personal life be a factor in his job performance unless he choses to make that an issue. But the real issue is left to the voters of idaho. If the voters decide that his lifestyle is no factor in his continuing to represent them in congress. Clearly this episode brings into question craig's judgement concerning his personal life. There is certain behavior we don't expect in our elected officials. Perhaps had craig alerted others prior to this incident it might not have been such a shock. But even so we still expect our public officials to maintain a certtain decorum. This of course was shattered by clinton's behavior prior to becoming president and his behavior in the oval office. But clinton was elected in spite of his warts. But prior to the election he assured the public these epsidoes were in his past and he would not repeat this acts as president. But obviously his word meant nothing as we learned from his actions in the oval office and his subsequent attmpts to cover them up with the help of both an enabling dimocrat party and the msm. Perhaps had the media held clinton to the same standards they are demanding for craig, things might be different. But then again when has the msm ever held the dims accountable for their actions

wildwest
What Bubba Clinton did or didn't do really should not effect the way we on the Right view this whole affair, no pun intended.

I don't personally care if Craig is a homosexual or not, I don't care if he has a boy friend or a girl friend. I do care that he was involved in a sting operation that seems to have caught him wanting to have "sex" in a public bathroom.

I also care that he initially plead guilty to it, or did he simply admit to it I may be mistaken on the guilty plea.

I care that he later came back and said Oh no, now I'm changing my mind and I'm not admitting to anything.

Now he's saying he isn't a homosexual, reminds me of that song, "I didn't use the cocaine to get high; I just liked the way it smelled".

Something else I don't care about one way or another is his party affiliation, D or R he was elected by people who trusted him and he owes it to them to conduct himself in an ethical manner while he represents them.

You gotta admit, holding Bubba up as a standard is a pretty poor litmus test.

Huh?
This has to be the most incoherent take on this incident I have seen yet. The charge of hypocrisy concerns his advancing one set of morals in public and a different set in private. It does not follow that the morals alone are thought to be hypocritical.

And why should anyone in the media criticize Craig for being gay. It seems more natural to critic
