Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

MICHAEL MEDVED: Oh, a little bit more than a year ago, where people counted Sen. John McCain out of the race for the Republican nomination, and he ended up winning, handily. Maybe we’re gonna see history repeat itself. We’re speaking to Sen. McCain, he’s in Minnesota, on his way to a town meeting. Sen. McCain, thanks so much for joining us.

SEN. JOHN MCCAIN: Well, thank you Michael, it’s good to be back with you again, and you’re about the only one that thought that I could do it throughout, throughout. You were either very courageous and very loyal or not very smart. I guess it turned out you’re pretty smart.

MEDVED: Well, thank you, I like to think courageous and loyal rather than dumb, but speaking of courageous and loyal rather than dumb, let me play you what I thought was one of the stupidest things that your opponent, Sen. Obama has said in the entire campaign, and he said it in the debate the other night and I wanted to get your comment. Here’s Sen. Obama:

SEN. BARACK OBAMA: And what I’ve proposed, you’ll hear Sen. McCain say, ‘Well, he’s proposing a whole bunch of new spending. Actually, I’m cutting more than I’m spending, because it will be a net spending cut.”

MEDVED: Is that true, Sen. McCain?

SEN. MCCAIN: Well, first of all, you want to laugh, and then of course, you want to cry a little, because, he is on virtually every issue-that is patently false. The outside organizations have totaled up his spending proposals: increases of 600-$860 billion. I mean, every time you turn around, he is proposing new spending on some program to purchase, or attempt to propose for some special interest. You know, I mean, it’s just, it’s ridiculous when you look at what his proposals are, including his quote “tax cuts for 95% of Americans” as he calls it, he doesn’t mention that it’s a tax increase for 50% of small business income in America. But the point is, he just, frankly, says most anything that seizes him at the moment. We’re gonna hold him accountable.

MEDVED: Well, I know that a lot of folks out there are thinking about things, and he says he’s gonna give tax cuts to 95% of people, 40% of people don’t pay federal income tax. Doesn’t that mean he’s planning to send a welfare check, basically, to like, millions and millions of new Americans?

SEN. MCCAIN: Just send them the money, and again, the record, you know, I’ve urged people in America to look at our record, and one of the ways to judge it is, you know, is the watchdog organizations, the Citizens Against Government Waste, The National Taxpayers Union, those organizations who regularly watch and grade us. He has the most liberal record, he’s voted for tax increases or against tax cuts 94 times. And of course, he’s voted, he is graded as the most liberal member of the United States senate. And you know, that’s pretty hard to get to the left of Bernie Sanders, you know?

MEDVED: It is. You were chosen by Citizens Against Government Waste, you were chosen, and we covered this on the air, as a “Citizens’ Super-Hero” for being tight with the public’s money, protecting the public’s money. Let me ask you one other thing, Senator, which again, I think is on the minds of lots and lots of our listeners. The economy was really progressing pretty well, under most of Pres. Bush’s term, then the Democrats took over in Congress in 2007 and now we’re in this horrible crisis. Coincidence?

SEN. MCCAIN: No, it isn’t, although, as you know, you and I have had this discussion in the past. The Bush administration let these big spending bills be signed and him not doing what Ronald Reagan used to do, and that is, veto them, make them famous, and fight against it. But also, more interesting, in 2006, there was a group of us, as a result of an investigation, and I think it was the inspector general, that said, “Look, this Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are completely out of control, and if we don’t do something about it, we’re gonna have an incredible financial crisis.” We sent a letter about it, we introduced legislation to reign them in, and Sen. Obama at the time said that the sub-prime loans were quote, “a good idea.” And the Democrats in Congress, we’re specifically talking about the ones who got all the money, were defending, were defending, and saying we can’t bring regulations on Fannie and Freddie, and were actually encouraging, as you know, people to borrow money that they couldn’t pay back. A fundamental of economics and so, you know, they were willing co-conspirators with this game of 3-card monty going on, and then, and then it collapsed.

MEDVED: Three cards: Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, and Barack Obama. Sen. McCain, in terms of, everybody wants change right now, particularly given what’s been going on with the stock market and the economy, what’s the biggest change the American people will get under Pres. John S. McCain?

SEN. MCCAIN: I think the first thing that we will do is an assurance that we will keep their taxes low, that we will restrain spending, and we will provide with the health insurance that they and their family can afford- to make it affordable and available to all Americans. We will achieve independence from foreign oil. One of the big impacts is, you know, the $700 billion we’re sending overseas. And stop the Old-Boy cronyism in between Washington, D.C. and Wall Street that colluded and made Main Street pay a huge, huge penalty. By the way, Michael, I know you’ve discussed this at length on the program from listening to you, it’s the home values that continue to plummet, and there’s no floor. We’ve got to address that issue. We’ve got to make sure that people can stay in their homes at a mortgage that they can afford and is predictable and turn this housing market around to start with. And there’s many other things. You know, the regulatory agencies were designed for the 1930’s, and they’re not keeping up with the global financial markets, period. And we’ve got to have regulatory agencies that work, and we have to bring these practices under control that have, basically, none of us understand completely. No one really understands them, except that we know that they’ve gotten completely out of control and have escaped the transparency and the scrutiny and the supervision that’s required and that’s why we don’t know so much, because they’ve been under the radar, as you know. We know they’re corrupt and we know they’re bad. And so, we can turn this economy around, and turn this trust around back on the part of the American people.

MEDVED: And I know you’re in the process of turning the campaign around. Being the underdog is nothing new for John Sydney McCain, and winning, despite expectations, is nothing new, either. We will be right back. Godspeed to you, Sen. McCain. Good luck in Minnesota and across the country. We’ll be right back.

It is time
for John McCain to start talking about pariotism again. We can get out of our financial crisis with the American spirit and fortitude.

We need a true American patriot in the Presidency, someone speaking to Americans about America, believing in the power of Americans to overcome problems.

McCain needs to explain the difference in the free economy versus a socialistic European approach. We are the country that will lead us and the world out of this economy crisis, not the European Market.

Start talking about America, again!

Gov. Sarah Palin abused the powers of her office by pressuring subordinates to try to get her former brother-in-law, a state trooper, fired, an investigation by the Alaska Legislature has concluded. The inquiry found, however, that she was within her right to dismiss her public safety commissioner, Walt Monegan, who was the trooper’s boss.

As a retired State Trooper, I would like to inform you that drinking (DUI) in any state vehicle, let alone a police vehicle, is a dismissable offense. Using your badge as an example of your authority to threatening anyone, is a dismissable offense.

OMG! Using a TASER on a 10 year old child is not only a dismissible offense, it is a violation of state statute and a criminal offense.

I have no idea how Alaska has retained this loose cannon. Talk about vicarious liability, this clown is a walking example of how not to be an officer during any police training.

All Governors should have the authority to dismiss their head of State Police for obvious reasons. Example: Malfeasance

Socialist McCain
McCain's campaign strategy is to fight fire with fire, i.e. fight socialism with socialism.

When the $700 billion proposal was first made did McCain oppose it? No. He "suspends" his campaign (not a single campaign ad was canceled) flew to Washington, said nothing except "I agree with Baynor" who opposed the bill after hearing the proposal.

Baynor, despite referring to the bill as a "crap sandwich", folded as soon as $180 billion in bribes...er I mean "sweeteners" were added to the bailout. McCain, who demagogued about "predatory lenders" voted for what should have been called "The Incompetent Banker Protection Act".

Not a peep was heard from "Mr I Never Take Earmarks" about the horrendous bi-partisan pork-fest orgy that congress cooked up.

McCain, the great opponent of earmarks, voted for the greatest pile of pork in US history because he's a clueless, spineless Republican hack who deserves to lose the election.

Voting for McCain is the political version of the bailout. The economic bailout rewards stupid behavior of the government, the banks and home buyers allowing them to avoid the consequences of their actions and continue upon the same stupid path.

The political bailout does the same for incompetent Republicans who embarked on the statist road with their fellow Democrats and brought the economy to its present condition. Only allowing them to fail will correct their course just as only allowing the banks and the homeowners to fail will correct theirs.

No more political bailouts for the incompetent. Stay away from the polls and let the McCains and Bushes fade into history.

Then, perhaps, from the rubble that Obama will create, a real champion of individualism and freedom will arise, someone competent to deal with Messiah of Big Government.

Good interview Michael
Re: Apollo
I would agree with you, but: What about the supreme court, the damage that will be done to our excellent health care system and all the jobs that will be lost. I think a lot of the really smart people with any money left will all quit and drop out of sight, just like in "Atlas Shrugged". Who is John Gault? I personally know more than a few people who said they'll quit working rather than work only to support those who don't work. These are people who willingly donate more to worthy causes than they pay in taxes, but are not going to be made to give it away. Why work harder to support more of those who won't. Ayn Rand saw Obama coming way back then. We need Mitt Romney! If McCain got him to agree to be his Sec. of Treasury and made it public right away, it could help Mc's poll numbers.

Supreme Court & Healthcare
Dwayne: What do we do if McCain takes his buddy Lieberman's advice for a SC justice and nominates Alan Dershowitz or Lawrence Tribe?

McCain's health care views are better than the Messiah's. However, do you think that McCain would have the stones to veto a Democrat sponsored health care "bailout" when faced with an unending media stream of images showing impoverished crippled children dying in the streets for want of medical care? The images will be phony, but that has never mattered before.

McCain can't fight this battle, he's unarmed and uninspired.

If I were in a concentration camp I would want McCain to be there with me. Under those conditions he was magnificent. But in those camps his world view became distorted into exploiters and victims. In McCain's mind his duty is to stand between the torturer and the victim.

America is not a concentration camp and doesn't need a savior. All America needs is freedom but Americans don't want freedom, they want goodies from Uncle Sam. Ultimately, that is the real problem and no candidate is prepared to deal with it.

Dragging Up Old Issues
Senator McCain should not have won the Republican nomination. During a period when we still had several viable candidates, crossover votes gave him a lead, and then others voted for him because he was in the lead, jumping on the bandwagon. The only reason I might consider voting for him is his choice for Vice President, and the hope he will be a one term President, and that Governor Palin will follow him. I certainly won't vote for him based on any ability or background of his.

Larger or smaller government?
It really comes down to that...Obama will grow the size and intrusiveness of government, which means more tax and spending, and McCain will reduce it. Recall that McCain has never authored an earmark, something Obama can't say.

So, if you want America to look more like Western Europe, with confiscatory taxation and an endorsement of trans-national law (i.e., the ICC, etc.), Obama's your man.

But if you agree with the Founding Fathers, who were champions of limited government, and who saw the virtue in individual accountability rather than a socialized view of consequences, McCain is your pick.

He's not a true conservative, but he's the antithesis of Obama in all the key areas.

For my take on McCain's campaign, go to:

http://www.clearcommentary.com

Phil Mella

Phil, we have zero evidence that McCain
will reduce the size of government, and returning the federal government to the size envisioned by the founders is not even on his radar. Aside from the evidence we already had, McCain's support for this bailout proves it. That bill massively increases the size of government.

McCain has supported federal intrusion into education, limits on free speech, cap & trade to "solve" the global warming "problem", artificial limits on domestic drilling, etc.

Now, I do appreciate his stand against a couple of the GOP's recent eggregious spending projects such as the farm bill and scrips for seniors. But opposition to a few such bills & earmarks will NOT reduce the size of government.

Government will grow more with McCain as POTUS and the GOP in congress giving him whatever he wants than it would with Obama as POTUS and the GOP in congress fighting him on everything - unless, of course, the Dems take 60 senate seats. If that happens, we're screwed anyway.

Interview questions
No one asks either candidate about the McCain Feingold Bipartisan Act to Limit Freedom of Political Speech either. However, McCain did pick Palin, so:

Anyone/Palin in 2008
Palin/Anyone in 2012
Obambi bin Biden after Hell freezes over

McCain Will Make Things Worse
Chris:

I agree completely that McCain will not shrink government because he believes in government power. When a man considers "service" to be superior to "self-interest" then he intends to expand the former at the expense of the latter.

If "service" becomes the standard of evaluation then your wealth, your property and even your life is subordinated to the community. The bizarre and twisted Kelo decision makes service to the community the standard by which property ownership is determined. Has McCain ever attacked the Kelo decision? No, and neither has that other paragon of community service Barack Obama.

Obama wants service too as is all too clear from listening to his wife (the Madame DeFarge of the progressive movement) and the idea of "Obama Jugend" snitching on their parents' "environmental sins" is not as crazy as it sounds. However, such blatant fascism is unmistakable even by the relatively inert American people and what can be identified can be opposed.

Obama himself is insignificant, it is Obama's collectivist ideas that must be stopped. McCain isn't the one to do this because McCain is fundamentally opposed to individualism. A McCain presidency will be helpless to oppose any tyranny presented as "service".

Look at the facts, not the hype.
We know McCains faults and his good side, he has been around for 26 years, and actually has a voting record we can look at. Obama doesn't have a record, oh yes he voted present 149 times when he was in the Illinois Senate, he also funneled a lot of money to Tony Rezko, and to ACORN. Than he came to Congress and for the last 2 years he has been running for president. He has spent $468,841,844 Million that was just up to the end of August. With his view on abortion you know what kind of Justices he would bring to the SC, under Obama he would probably make assisted suicide legal, and old people better watch out.Obama's friends and working associates are down right scarey. He loves his preacher like an old Uncle, who hates America. William Ayres was a bomber in the 60's, he learned his lesson when he walked free from jail, direct quote "Free as a bird-guilty as sin" only in america. Now he spreads his beliefs, they have not changed, to the children in the Chicago schools. He writes books, Obama funneled much money his way, just as he did to ACORN, $800,000 to help him run for the Senate. Now they are out there getting as many people to the polls as possible, legal or not, to vote for Obama. Abortion, associations, Honesty when you look at it all together, they work together. They all don't like america, think it needs to be changed, changed to what. Socalism! No thank you I will vote for McCain/Palin. He will keep us safe, like President Bush has did for the last 7 years. It would really be nice if a few people would actually thank him for our safety.

The Rockefeller Reps need dems to win.
McCain is throwing the fight. That seems to be the only reason why McCain refuses to defend himself in public or on TV.

Didn't you know? Liberal republican elites--the Rockefeller Kingmakers--PREFER democrats to the conservative/Goldwater wing of the party. Phyllis Schlafly taught us this 40 years ago.

Ron Paul made them exceptionally nervous this year, especially since he was right about monetary policy.

Can't have that!!

Bush made sure to help the party lose (phony war, sacked the treasury, flagrant spending). He did a great job of it, didn't he?

Bush and McCain STILL want amnesty which brings in massive numbers of immigrants more apt to vote democrat.

That is because they want the republican party (read: conservative influence) destroyed.

SUCKERS!

housing economics
I do not understand why McCain is having problems understanding the economics of housing, and according to him, nobody understands it.

I do not even have a college degree, but it seems rather basic: If you really truly want a house, come up with some "earnest money" to show you are really interested, and then make your payments for thirty years or whatever you and your bank have decided. That's it!!! I know many responsible people that understand it. And, imagine, they don't have big economic degrees to put it together. They just make their payments, even if it takes more than one job to do it.

To allow irresponsible, ignorant people who can't figure out a piece of paper to own a house is irresponsible and stupid in itself.

And then, to back up these same people any further with this country's money so they can continue to not pay and stay in their house is beyond reason.

Credit Market
I think Illinois hit the nail on the head here. and lets not forget who pushed the banking industry to lend to folks that really could not afford to own a home, could not come up with a reasonable down payment, could not generate earnest money, and got strapped with ARM mortgages--the previous Administration headed by President Clinton. And not too long ago, the chairs of the Senate and House Banking Committees, Dodd and Frank, said that both Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac were solid. I dont understand why McCain does not push this issue

Credit Market
There has been a bunch of discussion about Fannie and Freddie, but not much about (CDS- Credit Default Swaps). Compare to the CDS contribution to the current crisis in the market, the Fannie and Freddie are a drop in the ocean. Who holds the blame for this unregulated financial vehicle?

Credit Market - continued
The coverage of derivatives is really quite slim. Today's explanation cleared up a great deal, but was not as comprehensive as I believe the CDS (Credit default swaps)topic merits. Let's be clear, this financial product accounts for 55 trillion dollars of defaults. Here is where the BIG problem is, not in sub-prime which really is not the type of business Fannie and Freddie wrote (technically speaking). Even still, the billions in play in subprime can't hold a candle to these derivatives that have been referred to by Warren Buffett the great as weapons of mass destruction (seems he got this right). The bill to keep these items unregulated was unfortunately sponsored by the Republican party. I truly believe that this is what is holding McCain back along with some of the Iran Contra ghosts (advisory panel position included).
