GOP Veep Choice: Reconsidering Kay

Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The selection of Joe Biden as Barack Obama’s running mate changes the whole dynamic of the Veep choice now facing John McCain.

Sure, Biden brings credibility and experience and reassuring familiarity to the Democratic ticket, but he hardly adds sizzle or novelty. The Democrats feel that they’ve got enough pizzaz with their standard bearer, so it doesn’t hurt that they take a Vice Presidential contender with all the excitement of boiled Brussels sprouts.

I hope that this choice now gives John McCain reason to reconsider the safe, reassuring possibilities of Mitt Romney or Tim Pawlenty—apparently, the two leading contenders for the running mate slot for the GOP. Both Romney and Pawlenty are fine men, with special appeal in swing states (Michigan and Minnesota, respectively), but neither candidate would contribute an explosive infusion of energy or electricity.

In the same way that the Dems assumed they got enough novelty and excitement from the top of the ticket so they could go with experience and gravitas for the second spot, so the Republicans should recognize that they’ve got plenty of experience and gravitas with McCain so with his running mate they can go with a “breath of fresh air” candidate—someone new, unexpected, thrilling in some way, in order to shake up the electoral dynamic and undermine the big bounce Obama expects from Denver.

I would suggest – strongly – that the campaign reconsider the Senior Senator from Texas, the Honorable Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Okay, she’s not a dynamo of fiery charisma; in fact, as I’ve noted before, she’s a bland and sometimes boring speaker, and a pleasant if unprepossessing television presence. Nevertheless, she is a she--- and that fact in itself would allow McCain’s choice to upstage Obama’s.

Current polls show that only half of Hillary’s voters currently back The One; a full 20% already support McCain. The remaining 30% of one-time Clinton true believers are undecided or thinking of staying home, and the idea of a first female in national office would, no doubt, appeal to some of them—perhaps even many of them.

Most importantly, in contrast to Obama’s choice – which looks safe, cautious, timid and boring –the selection of a female candidate as Vice President would seem bold, daring, audacious….at the very time that “Hope” looks less audacious than tired. If Johnny Mac took a woman as his running mate, the lesson would be that the Old Guy still possessed his maverick instincts and the ability to shock the world and defy expectations. The press and the commentariat would love the story, and coming out of the dueling conventions of the next two weeks that’s no small matter.

Meanwhile, Senator Hutchison herself – despite her limitations as an orator – is a formidable public servant with the elements of a great tale to tell.

Most importantly, her conservative credentials are solid – and far more consistent than either Romney’s or Pawlenty’s. The American Conservative Union gives her a lifetime rating of 90.27, and a 2007 rating of 88—placing her among the more conservative Republicans in the Senate.

On abortion, she’s always called herself “Pro Life” and NARAL Pro-Choice America—the leading pro-abortion lobbying group – has given her ratings of mostly 0% (like McCain) and never higher than 20%.

She’s a former cheerleader for the University of Texas Longhorns (no mean distinction in a state famous for its beautiful cheerleaders) and went on to get her law degree from U of T. She worked for a while as a legal correspondent for a top Houston TV station before winning election to the legislature in 1972. During a break from politics, she became a bank executive and won conspicuous success as a business woman – the kind of private sector experience that Obama, Biden and McCain all lack. Her executive and administrative expertise includes an acclaimed term as Texas State Treasurer before her election to the Senate.

Her margins of victory in all her Senate races testify to her enormous vote-getting ability in her home state --- she won with 67% in the special election of 1993, then drew 61%, 65%, and even 62% in the notorious Democratic year of 2006. She’s an effective campaigner with a proven gift for connecting with every voting bloc in Texas. Unlike Geraldine Ferraro, there’s no problem here of a thin resume’: in addition to her private sector experience, Ms. Hutchison served three terms in the state legislature, a term as state Treasurer, worked two years as Vice Chair of the National Transportation Safety Board, and won landslide victories in four different U.S. Senate elections. She’s moved up steadily in the Senate leadership – currently ranked number three among GOP members of the “World’s Greatest Deliberative Body.”

Her drawbacks and weaknesses? It’s true that she suffered a 1993 indictment for allegedly illegal use of state resources in one of her campaigns, but the charges came from the infamous partisan prosecutor Ronnie Earle and were subsequently dropped with no conviction or admission of guilt or wrong-doing.

More recently, her adoption of two small children in 2001 makes a great (and unusual) human interest story – and would help call attention to John and Cindy McCain’s own adoption of a physically challenged baby girl at the direct behest of Mother Theresa. (now the McCains’ beloved teenaged daughter Bridget). In any event, following a youthful divorce, Senator Hutchison has been happily married for thirty years to a former Republican legislator and gubernatorial candidate.

Senator Hutchison has also written a couple of books – about women in the Senate, and largely unknown but deeply influential heroines of history. These aren’t literary masterpieces by any means (I tried to read one of ‘em to interview the Senator about it on my radio show) but they’re capably put together, and highlight her ability to inspire young women and girls to great achievements.

When it comes to debating Joe Biden, she should do very well – and draw big ratings for only the second candidate’s debate in national history (after Geraldine Ferraro vs. George H.W. Bush in 1984) featuring a female contender. Senator Hutchison’s friendly understated style will provide a winning alternative to Biden’s logorrhea.

In any event, the ho-hum Democratic choice gives McCain the chance to steal some excitement away from the Obama ticket, and the easiest way to accomplish that purpose would be the unexpected selection of a ground-breaking candidate --- either a woman (Senator Hutchison is the one viable female choice) or a person of color (Bobby Jindal of Louisiana is by far the best choice there).

The Obama-Biden combination gives McCain and opportunity to do what he loves to do most in politics – confound expectations, shake things up, and stun the world. He can do so at the same time that he reassures and rallies his all-important conservative base.

Kay Bailey Hutchison may not count as the most exciting individual in American politics, but her selection in the current campaign context could be electrifying. A McCain-Hutchison team might sore into the lead right after the euphoric surrounding the Republican convention, and could fight effectively to hold that lead (and to maintain the euphoria) all the way to November.

NO WAY KAY
If Romney is not selected I will NOT be voting for Mc Cain.....I will do a write in vote for Romney.

V.P. for McCain
Hutchinson is not the one. She is too pro-amnesty for illegals. She is boring. You want someone that will bring excitement to the campaign? Some female LIKE Phyllis Schlafly - a great conservative with experience, intelligent, a dynamic speaker, knowledgeable and does not waste words. Please remember, the V.P. becomes PRESIDENT if the sitting one becomes unable to carry out his duties!!!! How old is McCain??? I think Mitt Romney is the best experienced and proven achiever. I lived in Utah for several years and you have not to worry about his religion anymore than we had to worry about JFK's!

Hush, now, Queen Hillary is speaking!
Just listening to Hillary Clinton starting her speech that she's undoubtedly hoping her most ardent supporters will IGNORE! She came up to the podium and said she was very proud to be there. Of course, what she WANTED to say was, "I'm very proud to be here - BUT NOT TO BE SPEAKING ON TUESDAY NIGHT INSTEAD OF THURSDAY NIGHT!"

Kay is okay, but Palin, Romney and
Cantor are better. Pawlenty is fine too, if safe and borning. Personally Romney has been taking on the Dems pretty effectively in the last few days.

The VP
I'm sick of all this pointless talk about whom McCain should pick. He should go with his instincts and let us judge him on that basis.

I LOVE!!! Hillary Clinton!

What a freaking great gutsy woman in our party! She just ended her speech, sorry I'm probably on the wrong thread, but I HAD TO get this out! I LOVE the values of the democratic party. Now I wish Hillary was the VP! Her speech was graceful and all-inclusive and it BUILT....it started slow, but there was passion and a... a motor under it! It swept you along, inspiring all americans with her vision of this awesome country. WORDS cannot describe how wonderful it is watch such an impassioned and STRONG, joyous, involved, intelligent woman. Funny, casual one-liners along the way. She JOINED why her followers need to vote for Obama. She made the connection. Without a shread of sanctimoniousness.

Sorry. Ok. Ok. I needed to give her props. She brought it all home. I know the Medveds and Hugh Hewitts and Sean Hannitys are going to SPIN SPIN SPIN this speech tomorrow into whatever they need ot to be... but it was a home run. Let them spin! They can't diminish beautiful Hillary.

For a Female Choice Consider Gov.Palin
She's a governor, has executive experience, is a Conservative, strong on drilling, and has a very impressive personal history.

Dearest Medved,
You write: "A McCain-Hutchison team might sore into the lead..."

'Soar'. The word you're looking for is 'soar'. Sore means something else entirely. Yes, your spellchecker will fail you at times. Please don't be discouraged.

I'll believe McCain will choose a good fiscally conservative VP when I see it. Not a moment before.

Oh Michael
I love listening to your show, Michael, but you are so far off on Senator Hutchinson, and may I add you have never, NEVER liked Romney. Just admit it.

I suggested this in June
on my blog. I agree with her on energy policy, on life and other social issues, on economics, in fact, on everything except immigration. At that time as I researched her, I was very impressed by all things except two. One, she is 64, meaning she, like Cheney would possibly be too old to be gaining experience for her own white house run (though she would be McCains age after 8 years....a lot depends on health issues) and second, she is from Texas, an already red state that brings no new states into play. Jindal and Palin are rising stars, but both so new that they would negate the lack of experience issue as a negative of Obama. Romney has little political experience, but when it comes down to it, he has as much as either Clinton or Bush did when elected. He would be a fine choice, but a bit predictable.

Palin new and exciting
It's time the conservatives unleash the new young lions in the conservative movement. Sarah Palin for VP, she is a magnet for all that have been disappointed by the republicans and their many blunders. Her strong will and determination will bring a breath of fresh air to energy independance, pork spending and commonsense to global warming nonsense. Let her be groomed to be the First Woman Republican President and then have Bobbie Jindal as her VP.

Senator McCain Just DO It!!!!!!!!

A VP who can count
Democrat Lite McCain-Feingold needs someone who can at least count houses. Thomas Sowell is an economist who meets all the requirements that McCain does not.

Thomas Sowell for VP (for now)

No female VP's for McCain
No women VP's please for McCain. The women who follow Hillary and the rest of the liberals are not the kind of women who would follow McCain simply because he chose a female VP. These pro-choice hippie-unibrow-liberals want everything our candidate would NOT have (male or female). And this would send them screaming in Obama's direction. McCain the chosen VP need to work on differentiating themselves from what many ... conservatives for that matter do not like with the current state of the White House. Get back to what makes conservatism great, and it's a done deal : )

Brandi

Eric Cantor
seems like a good choice.

Big Spender
Kay Bailey Hutchison has never met a tax dollar she couldn't spend.

definite
Stay on track with Johnny Mac, no matter who he chooses. To much to lose this time.

Palin or Hutchison = DONE DEAL
You're wrong Brandi - now is the time for a woman.

Look at that poll. Sarah Palin is second. Once people see and listen to her - Palin will take all the Hutchison votes and a chunk of Romney's. She's got charisma, brains, and integrity.

I'm betting McCain will be the maverick and take her.

Besides - Biden is not longer available.

Medved is a quack!
Seriously, Medved must actually be a Democrat plant in the conservative movement. Anyone who actually thinks that Kay would be a good choice for VP has to have a hidden agenda to sink the GOP in November. Of course, Kay (or anyone else for that matter) would be a better selection than Mitt "the flip" Romney.

Huckabee, Sanford, Pawlenty and maybe even John Kasich would be good picks for McCain.

hutchison
Hutchison is pro Roe v Wade and says it should not be overturned, she has been indicted - whether fairly or not, she will have to keep explaining it; she broke her word that she would not run for a third term [getting obama off the hook for breaking his word that he would not run for president], she is not a good speaker, she does not bring geographical diversity to the ticket, she does not bring the ability to deliver a blue state, she represents a "cute" strategy which does not help the Republicans who should play to their strength rather than try to "game" democrat expectations. In sum, a choice that would sink McCain. Is this really written by Medved or can this be a fake?

Will
Get over yourself Hillary isn't on the ticket. Don't look now but Obama threw her under the bus with his "typical whitey" grandmother and picked diarrhea mouth Biden instead. Now that's the change the lemmings have been waiting for, it's called bait and switch. Doesn't matter what Hillary said, it's about toeing the party line, her supporters know this and will flock to McCain, they have been disenfranchised.

Defending this nation is hard work but a noble cause. Me and my buddies will be voting against the spineless one, Obama, because we know he has acrimony toward the Military and will destroy all we've fought so hard for.

Will
Hope you weren't so wrapped up in Clinton's speech to notice Mrs. O's reaction.

If looks could kill,Senator Clinton would have burst into flames.

Too funny!

MC CAINS TO LOSE...
IF MC CAIN LOSES IT WILL BE BECAUSE HE'S TOO STUPID TO GRAB THE REIGNS OF MOMENTUM !
IF HE CHOOSES KAY...BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN
HE MIGHT AS WELL CHOOSE HELLARY..AFTER ALL ARE THEY NOT LOVE BIRDS? BARF! BARF!
ELVIS

GOALIEMAN....HUCKABEE
Here's your"FLIP",pal when it comes to huckabee!
when are the stupid voters going to realize
as bad as abortion is ..it is not going to be the most important issue on americas mind..when saudi arabia gets pissed and shuts down the oil 30/40%..! And robt. go play w/ yourself in some texas barn! Play marbles of course ! Remember the long lines at the gas stations in the 70's?
DUH!
ELVIS

Pawlenty for VP
I hope McCain chooses Gov. Tim Pawlenty over Romney -- less baggage, has crossover appeal among conservatives and moderates, and can possibly attract voters in the Mid West.

Women...
Mr. Medved,

Why is it that you refer to her as "Kay," you've referred to Senator Clinton as "Hillary," and you've referred to Senator Obama as "Barack," yet you never refer to McCain as "John"?

Old age (older than Biden) is not something that would appeal to conservatives hoping McCain drops dead and a real VP takes over. The truth is that she has accepted more in contribution money from oil companies than any other Senator, and she's like, crazy old.

Sorry, Michael.

progressivejew.blogspot.com

Kay
It looks like Rich Gallen is doing his job in promoting Kay. I'll be glad when he gets back to writing the Mullings Report.

Kay wouldn't help McCain.
I saw her for the first time on TV last night. She seems like a nice lady but is so boring. She doesn't appeal to me the way that Hillary does. Hillary is tough, articulate, and qualified.

Hillary appeals to the working class. If McCain wants those votes, he has to pick someone who appeals to the working class. Huckabee or Jindal are the only 2 that have the appeal and that would also excite the party.

How about Sarah Palin?
Here is a clip of Governor Palin of Alaska thanking the troops:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0U79Fl9NEk

I predict that she would have Letterman and Leno eating out of her hand!

Barack asks:
"Why is it that you refer to her as "Kay," you've referred to Senator Clinton as "Hillary," and you've referred to Senator Obama as "Barack," yet you never refer to McCain as "John"?"
*************************************************

Do you realize how many people there are named John? This is so trivial, I can't even believed that you noticed it! You obviously have too much time on your hands!

Palin For VP..the better choice
She's tough and done well in a good ol' boys state.
She's young, attractive, and conservative something McCain's not.
She's strong pro-life she just had a downs syndrome son instead of aborting.
She's not got baggage like Romney!(flip/flop king)
She would bring excitement into the race
If not her Jindal's the only logical choice.
My 2 cents...

McCain should
pick the double whammy of color and gender, Condi Rice. Here's why:

1. She's smart.
2. She has the experience to step into the presidency if necessary.
3. She would attract a significant number of black voters.
4. She would attract the female vote, including large numbers of those Hillary supporters dissed by Obama.

As close as you'll get to a dream ticket.

MATCHING NEO-CON GLOBALIST SELLOUTS!!!
Perfect match for the sellout neo-con puppet McAmnesty! She has been instrumental in constantly attempting to undermine last summer's 90% rejection of McAmnesty and Teddy's amnesty/North American Union disaster. If you want a borderless, lawless North American Union with its SPP (www.spp.gov) surrender of our national security, the shiny Amero to replace the dollar these traitors have so devalued, and the Drug SuperHighway cutting the United States in half so the Chinese Communists can unload uninspected junk at Mexican ports to be trucked here in uninspected Mexican trucks, with even more loss of American jobs and industries, and amnesty for 30 MILLION illegal aliens and terrorists with double that in chain migration to follow, then she's your gal. No wonder globalist neo-con sellout Cred Dead is pushing her!

By the way, why does your "war hero" McAmnesty refuse to release his military records? Answer: he is a case study in who you DO NOT WANT in the military. I still want to know why he got away with killing all those guys on the Forrestal, where his Daddy took him off the ship to prevent the survivors from killing him! How about some straight talk, Cred Dead? Do we have to wait for the Democrats to Swiftboard him? Thanks for all your efforts in getting McMoron nominated!

Why pick someone just...
...to upstage Obama. Pick the right person for the VP slot. Obama is trying his last shot with his coronation speech this week. All McCain needs to do is "do the right thing" not the "celebrity thing".

Our Gal Kay......
is no Conservative. While we have voted for and contributed to the Senator in all her campaigns we have no illusions about the depth of her conservative convictions. Once free from the shackles of the Texas electorate you can fully expect her to become a Republican in the Bob Dole, John Warner mold. Hence the obsequious PR job from Mike “the stallion” Medved.

Couldn't Finish Reading It.
Medved, you'd fit right in at a pre-production meeting for a B movie -- the field in which you seem to know something.

Oh, this is a B movie. Have at it.

michigander

A few years ago, I would have agreed with you about Condi, but she has been drinking the State Department Koolaid, and I feel that she has enfluenced President Bush in the wrong direction.

edna
I agree, and Palin would attract a lot of the disenfranchised Hillary voters.

No Kay
Too old, too boring, and she's ANOTHER Senator. We already have THREE on the ticket. We need a Governor: Romney, Pawlenty or (my new choice)Sarah Palin. Why?
1)She's YOUNG and energetic 2)She'll push for energy from Alaska being tapped, to provide for the lower 48 -- even ANWR, and could change McCain's mind on this 3)She's pro-life 4)She's fought corruption in Alaska and stopped the bridge to "Nowhere" -- She's a fighter. We need that on the ticket -- 5)She comes from a middle-class background - no "silver spoon" upbringing for Dems to charge her with 6)She's beautiful -- women want to BE her, men just want her (shallow? maybe, but true)
Sarah Palin would be a home run for John McCain.

Oh -- And I didn't mention one thing...
about how she's a woman. That's just icing on the cake.

Come on, John. Pick Sarah Palin

Mom in Wisconsin

Just my opinion, THOUGHTS ?
Just my humble opinion....

Here is a list of touted VP choices, but not in any order:

1. McCain / Romney 2008 = OK, Great on economy, good on other conservative issues, seen by some as a flip/flopper on issues like Abortion, some may not like his Mormon faith, although thats a small minority.

2. McCain / Huckabee 2008 = non-starter, great with evangelicals & Christians, has executive experience, very bad tax record as governor, & a gift to the Dems.

3. McCain / Thompson 2008 = Absolutely the BEST for America & Federalism, awesome on national security & foreign policy, but WON'T happen because Fred is not interested in a VP slot.

4. McCain / Rice 2008 = Strong choice, GREAT foriegn policy experience, could help with women vote & minority vote, but may turn "Anti-Bushies" away.

5. McCain / Michael Steele 2008 = Good ticket, some executive experience, might do well with minority voters.

6. McCain / Palin 2008 = Good ticket,Very popular with executive experience, could help with women vote....

7. McCain / Hunter 2008 = Good pick, Good conservative, maybe could help with California, Great on homeland Security, Border Security, & military, may be percieved too "hawkish" of a ticket for some.

8. McCain /Lieberman 2008 = BAD PICK, Great on National Security & War on Terror, has been liberal on most social & economical issues though, While exceptable to some Democrats & Independents, could likely cause a MAJOR rift with true Conservatives & Republicans.

9. McCain /Powell 2008 =Interesting ticket, VAST foreign policy, security & military experience plus apeal to minority voters, but is pro-abortion and could kill conservative votes.

What's your thoughts of this list of McCain VPs ?

McCain / Bob Riley 2008, THOUGHTS ?
I had posted a list of 9 potential McCain VP choices with a brief critique from my humble personal point of view and asked for thoughts...

Many have said that a governor VP pick, particularly a "southern governor" would help McCain...

Here is another to be added to the list of 9 already listed here before:

10. McCain/Bob Riley = (current Republican Governor of the state of Alabama:

Quote: http://www.ontheissues.org

For his leadership in addressing the state’s fiscal crisis, Governor Riley was named the “Public Official of the Year” by Governing magazine in 2003, and Time magazine hailed him for being one of the nation’s “most courageous politicians.”

Riley has claimed credit for helping to spur economic development in Alabama.
Riley points to the opening of an aeronautics engineering facility in Mobile by EADS, the parent company of Airbus, which may ripen into an aircraft assembly plant if EADS secures future contracts.

Under Riley's administration, unemployment in Alabama fell from 5.3% in January, 2003 when Riley took office to 3.3% in March, 2006. This rate was the lowest ever recorded since statistics began being tracked in 1976 and was among the nations lowest. In April 2007 the unemployment rate once again reached 3.3 percent.

end quote...

Thoughts ?

number 11. McCain/Barbour2008, THOUGHTS?
another to think about & add to this list:

11. McCain / Haley Barbour 2008 = (current Governor of Mississippi:

Quote:
"Barbour has been often considered as a potential vice presidential running mate.

"On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed into Mississippi's coast, killing 231 people, devastating the state's $2.7 billion-a-year casino industry leaving tens of thousands homeless. Barbour's response was a concerted effort at evacuation, tough-minded talk on looters & an unwillingness to blame federal government.
His response was compared, favorably, to Rudy Giuliani in the wake 9-11-01 attacks.

"Barbour credited the countless government workers who helped southern Mississippi cope with the hurricane." But Barbour was praised by the citizens as a strong leader who can communicate calm to the public & provide “a central decision-making point.
Barbour says,
“The goal is to build the coast back like it can be, rather than simply like it was.”

Barbour has been praised for his lobbying skills in winning over a legislature dominated by Democrats. He has called several special legislative sessions to force an issue.

When Barbour took office, Mississippi had a $709 million deficit for 2004 fiscal year. With bipartisan support, & without raising taxes, Barbour implemented a plan to cut the budget deficit in half. This continued in the state budget for 2006 fiscal year.

Building on a 2002 tort reform bill, Barbour introduced a new tort reform measure thats described as the strictest in the nation. Barbour then embarked on a "tort tour" to encourage other to follow Mississippi’s lead.

Under Barbour's leadership, Mississippi has enacted the most restrictive anti-abortion laws including ban (with exceptions of where the woman's life is threatened or raped) in event the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.

end quote.
THOUGHTS ?

Veep Kay
Kay Bailey Hutchinson (or Condi Rice) would turn the veep debate around. Biden, chosen specifically to destroy the Veep choice in the debate would be faced with the Hillary Factor, going too strong against a woman would play badly. He'd have to tone it down. I've been saying it for awhile, and am surer now than ever. The short list of Veep selections for McCain is underwhelming. Picking Romney would at least slap the Dems, who didnt add their number two primary runner to the ticket. But a woman on the ticket would turn it upside down!

12. McCain / Pawlenty 2008, THOUGHTS ?
Here is another governor you can add to the list:

12. McCain/Pawlenty 2008 = (current Governor of Minnesota:

Quote:

Pawlenty was elected on a platform of balancing the state's budget without raising taxes.

During his first year as governor, Pawlenty balanced a deficit of $4.3 billion without raising taxes.
On November 30, 2005, a $701 million projected surplus for the 2006–7 biennium was announced, the first budget surplus for the Minnesota state government since 2001.

Pawlenty signed into law in May 2005 a bill that will raise the minimum mandated mixture to 20% in 2013. Pawlenty has also lobbied the Governors' Ethanol Coalition to mandate higher ethanol use nationwide.

Early in 2006, after issuing a study that estimated the cost of illegal immigration to the state as approximately $188 million, Pawlenty announced a program for reforming the way the state deals with persons who are in the United States without permission from the federal government. Pawlenty noted the economic benefit does not justify the illegal behavior. By mid-year he sent Minnesota National Guardsmen to the U.S.-Mexico border at the request of the U.S. Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Pawlenty's first term coincided with the deployment of National Guardsmen from numerous states, connected with the War on Terror and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Pawlenty made trips to Bosnia (2003), Kosovo (2004) and (2008), Poland, Iraq and the Czech Republic visiting Minnesota troops.

Yep...Sarah Palin
Would be a surprise grand slam. An amazing woman - almost too decent of a person to run for national office.
All other supporters here are right - the anti-corruption, the Down's baby (that would just bust smarmy B.O. and his pay grade comment and infanticide vote right in the chops), plus the influence she would have in getting the .1% of AWNR opened up.
Also, while KBH might be a decent choice, definitely no sizzle there. Johnny Mac could use a youthful sizzler...

WELL MICHELLE HOW MANY WIVES DO MUSLIMS
lle Berry ran some errands before meeting friends for dinner at Ketchup in LA yesterday. Once again, she makes a casual get-up look glamorous. Her ex-husband Eric Benet agrees, saying he hasn't spoken to Halle in a long time, but that she looks great and he's happy for her. Considering she's got plenty of love to share with Gabriel, Nahla, and even Obama.

You can post all you want about the various "choices", but the actual choice will be made by the unwritten rule "thou shalt not choose VP candidate who can eclipse thee" (the only known violation of that was by Dhimmicruds in 1988, when they lost badly)--among the few Republicans (including RINO's) who fits that description is Arlen Spectre.

Palin is very exciting!
You are so wrong about Kay: I am a woman and she does nothing for me. I guarantee she will not bring in young voters or others sitting on the fence. She's old school (emphasis "old") not at all vibrant--in fact, boring, and a terrible interview! Check out Sarah Palin of Alaska. She is very impressive. Read her bio. Watch her on U-tube. I was for Romney all the way, but McCain has an opening here and I think he should take it to guarantee a win!

SPIT TAKE ALERT

I just realized this morning that Chelsea Clinton, who was born in 1980, will be 35 in 2015.

This means that she would be eligable to run for President in ONLY EIGHT YEARS!!!:(

Have a good day!:)

Is Medved even talented enough to rate B movies?

I am beginning to think not.

He might want to consider switching writing services. Paying $19.95 for this mess from some cut rate outfit that has no human editor to determine the difference between "sore" and "soar" shows dearly. He got what he paid for.

NO ON KAY
You've got to be smoking something Mr. Medved. What's with the pandering by you that a woman should be McCain's choice, especially Kay? His best choice should be Romney. That would be the best balanced ticket. McCain needs Romney badly.

McCain would prove himself to be a serious man and think of what is good for ALL Americans, instead of what state or what gender would work to counter Obama-bin-Biden ticket. I mean REALLY, enough with the RINOs.

Sam T
Haley Barbour did, in fact, perform magnificently for the State of Mississippi after Katrina. All of the liberals moaning and groaning over New Orleans refuse to recognize that Dem. Gov. Kathleen Blanco and Dem. Mayor Ray Nagin screwed everything up in Louisiana and, particularly, New Orleans. The worst hit area was Mississippi. For those of us who actually witnessed Katrina's aftermath, nothing but praise can be given to Barbour.

However, I no longer think that choosing the GOP VP is about choosing the best person. It feels like this one campaign (2008) should have been over years ago. I am campaign weary. I am tired of people being lied about and trashed. I have come to accept that the GOP Big Shots (latter should be spelled with an 'i') and the Bushes have hand-selected the VP choice. I will be glad when it is announced and the speculation and character assasination of others can end. Let's get this show on the road and get it over with.

Just a Thinker
How do you define RINO?

How do you define CINO?

Please give some names to illustrate your definitions and state why they are in each category. Thanks.

Pelosi no longer most powerful woman
Kay Bailey Hutchinson would be a definite game changer. It would be worth it alone just to watch Pelosi squirm the next couple of months. She would no longer be the most powerful woman in Washington.

And Kay would be the one to casting any tie votes too. LOL

If McCain picks her he can still use the Hillary and Biden clips with no hyprocrisy and stick it to Nancy...what a dream ticket!!!

Observations
I like Kay Hutchinson, and I like her husband. But I don't think we need Texas. Kay is very articulate, very sharp, she would win the debates with Biden. But she is older, and certainly Washington wise as a Senator.

From what I've read Sarah Palin, would be an excellent choice. I know this, the opportunity is ripe to pick a female VP. Certainly someone tha could take over the reins in 4 years too. Between Hillary losing too Obama, there are many women who would LOVE this ticket. We need to offer a barrier breaker on both sides of the isle by selecting a woman VP, and we have many sharp women in the GOP.

If John McCain does not select a woman, he would have passed up a great opportunity.

More Meddlesome Mish Mash
from Medved. Choose a woman or someone black. I am surprised he didn't say both. Or add youth into the mix. Pick a youthful black woman.

She has to be good looking too. Why go with an ex cheerleader Medved. Pick one who is still a cheerleader. I hear Dallas has some on their team who meet all the criteria for MedVed's VP choice. They can be VP and still cheer for their team on Sundays.

Romney Best--But Palin Push Mac over Top
With all due respect, only Republican insiders (probably male) will think that Kay will help McCain. Romney is the best male because like Hillary he was next in line and he balances McCain with economic gravitas. So far, he's the best attack dog McCain has on the airwaves.

Yet, I'm not the voter McCain needs to pick up. He's already got me! So, again check out vibrant Gov. Palin shooting guns with the National Guard (?)--lifetime member of the NRA, beauty queen, led her basketball team to state championship ("Sarah barracuda"), mother of 5 (latest baby has downs). Cleaned up state government and is married to an Alaskan fisherman (the toughest)--she's got it all.

I hope....
That McCain has never seriously considered KBH. Medved is all wet on this one. There are really two choices, maybe three that I would be happy with as a conservative.

1)Romney...He was my choice for POTUS. But the religious Biggot Huckabee destroyed his candidacy. He is the one that I want. With McCain as Commander in Chief, and Romney helping him with economics issues, I think it is a good executive branch.

2)Sarah Palin. She would be a solid choice, although she is a first term governor, and might get some criticism with regards to her experience. She is a looker though. Her conservative credentials are not in question.

3)Ned Pawlenty is the only other choice here. His balancing the state budget without raising taxes is awesome. He would help I think in states like Ohio, Michigan, and Minn.

Ultimately, McCain must choose a good conservative. He cannot choose a moderate like KBH. If he chooses her or Lieberman, I am staying home.

DCortez
I'd vote for her in a NY minute. Bland? Yes. Stable, predictable, smart? YES!

Just say no to Romney.

Kay is the one
Right on, Michael, were Johnny Mac select Kay Bailey Hutchinson as his VP, the Hillary supporters will abandon Obama in droves. Most certainly those who noticed the disdain with which Obama treated Hillary and her 18 million supporters, they will definitely go for a man who sees a woman as an equal for the greatest office in the world.

I like your "Johnny Mac" and I might add "Johnny Mac and Kay" go together like Mac and Cheese.
John
Portland

Do we have to lower ourselves...
the level of Democrats and choose candidates primarily based on their race or gender? C'mon Mike, that's their value system, not ours.

Kay
I think that Kay Bailey Hutchison would be a fine choice. Palin, Rice, Jindal, Cantor or Fiorina would as well. I like Romney, but I am not sure that he would help in any way. I do not want to see McCain choose a vanilla VP. A substantial portion of Clinton's voters (possibly even some Edward's voters) are there for the taking. McCain should step up an take them. Someone with executive and fiscal experience would be advisable.

Hutchison’s Abortion Record is Mixed!
Mr. Medved. As usual, you are being very disingenuous.

Pro-Life voters will find one vote in particular to be very troubling. Hutchison voted YEA on the Harkin Amendment.

The following summary comes from the NRLC website:

“Senator Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) offered an amendment to the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act (S. 3) stating, "It is the sense of the Senate that the decision of the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade (410 U.S. 113 (1973)) was appropriate and secures an important constitutional right; and such decision should not be overturned." NRLC opposed the Harkin Amendment, but it was adopted, 52-46, March 12, 2003, Vote No. 48. The Harkin Amendment was supported by 9 Republicans, 42 Democrats, and 1 independent, and was opposed by 41 Republicans and 5 Democrats.”

This vote alone makes one think that she is pro-abortion. Therefore, she needs to explain why she voted to secure this “important constitutional right” and why she feels that “such decision should not be overturned."

If she were to become the President, I have no reason to believe that she would nominate pro-life Supreme Court nominees.

Mr. Medved, please explain how this vote qualifies her as Pro-Life!

Don't expect liberals to EVER acknowledge that any of the blame for what Hurricane Katrina did to New Orleans should rest anywhere BUT with Bush. Like Bush supposedly stealing the 2000 (and the 2004 as well) election and ostensibly lying to the nation to get us into the Iraq War, the presupposition that all the blame for Katrina rests squarely with Bush - and none with Blanco and Nagin - will go down forever in the annals of unquestioned liberal canon. Think that the recently released report that stated that World Trade Center #7 came down because of the fires from the Twin Towers and not in a manner consistent with a controlled demolition will shut up those like Rosie O'Donnell who still want to believe that George Bush, not Al Qaeda, attacked the WTC? Don't hold your breath on that. Try being an up-and-comer today in the Democratic Party who says that he believes that George Bush was LEGITIMATELY elected president in 2000, or that the intelligence at the time JUSTIFIED our going to war in Iraq, or that the WORSE screw-ups for the results of Katrina were with Blanco and Nagin and NOT President Bush, and see if you'll have a future in that party. I'm betting not.

The solace we conservatives have is that, as much as liberals want to blame us even for things done under the stead of their own, at the end of the day they still have to live with the wreckage that their leaders’ incompetence produces. DC denizens may have kept overwhelmingly re-electing Marion Barry in spite of his demonstrable incompetence, but they, not those fortunate enough to not be under his rule, still had to live with the day-to-day misery his misrule brought to their lives. While Mississippi and its residents got back on their feet and can move on with their lives with confidence because they had a man at the helm who actually knew what he was doing - Haley Barbour - too many of the residents of New Orleans are STILL living lives in limbo because of Nagin's incompetence.

Standhisground
I certainly agree with you, sir. Frankly, having lived through Katrina and having first hand views of the problems in Mississippi and Louisiana, I let my frustration out occasionally when someone who knows absolutely nothing but what the MSM reports sets forth 'facts' about what happened.

New Orleans had become so out of control that, while I was trying to rescue pets people left behind, my car was shot with a 9MM. Note that every city these bottom-of-the-barrel scum moved has had an increase in crimes against the person and lowered school test scores. Now the Big Easy is a haven for illegals.

Hutchinson
What a great idea. This would be a home run for Mccain and the Republicians

John McCain's VP choice#1 (to be cont'd)
Not that it may not matter here but the ony rock-hard solid team would be that of McCain/Romney..PERIOD!Before you anti-Romneys get you underwear in a bunch just think with your brains and use them for something else than to fill your skull. Are all of you whom are making all these flip-flop comments ever change your mind on something you believed in only to change your mind once your really got all the facts. For instance, a family of ethnic origin moves in down the street and because they are what you have heard about these sort of people you form an opinion in your mind and pass it on. Other in that block will most likely follow suit and do likewise. Except one day a disaster strikes, perhaps a bad auto accident and while the rest of you stand around shaking in your shorts the man of this family rushes forward towards the burning car and drags a neighbor out and to safety. Common sense commands that a lot of people are going to be more thankful for his actions of saving a life , one of whom has been bashing him and his family ever since they moved into the neighborhood and really begin to start realizing that his family has a lot to contribute to the neighborhood and start accepting this family as if they were one of their own...that my friends is what happens when you use your brains and have learned a lesson. You just flip-flopped!

What a Maverick would do
Sen. Hutchinson is a woman of accomplishment, experience, style and grace. Not only do Republicans bust down the door of change with a woman as VP, but they bring additional experience in business.

I am appalled to hear Democrats ask why experience is so important. They say look at the past eight years and ask what has experience given us. Such a statement is foolish. A McCain/Hutchinson ticket would be exciting and wise.

Sarah Palin
The best, most exciting choice would be Gov. Sarah Palin - very conservative, a Governor with running a state as experience (which McCain does not have) - she is young, albiet one term - other great choice to assist McCain would be Bobby Jindal, believe however he is not interested. Romney certainly has great business experience but we have brain dead citizens in this country who apparently do not vote on qualifications or research - if they did they would never ever vote for the empty suit of Obama or his hate my country wife, Michelle.

McCain's VP Choice #2 (cont'd)
You voters saw the results for voting the way you did in 2006 and we have been getting nailed time and time again by those whom got sent right back into office only to stick it too us again -only this time we handed them a democrat controlled do-nothing Congress. That's what happens when one votes with a vengeance or sits an election out instead of using their brains and weren't a well educated, informed voter instead of being like a flock of chickens being fed lots of corn and voting for the one who throws the most corn. CHECK THEIR VOTING RECORDS ON CONGRESS.ORG AND FORGET THE FOG THE BIASED MEDIA IS BLINDING US WITH. GET YOUR POLITICAL NEWS FROM THE INTERNET...THE SAME INTERNET AND CONSERVATIVE RADIO....THE DEMS ARE TRYING TO CONTROL AS WELL AS YOUR FREEDOM OF RELIGION AND SPEECH. LET'S NOT FORGET OUR RIGHT FOR LAW ABIDING CITIZENS TO OWN GUNS. AT LEAST ROMNEY WON'T SHOOT MCCAIN WHILE HUNTING.

Since that 2006 vote with a vengeance and stay at home voters the price of gas went up to where it is now, housing starts dropped, crashed, and burned, We've had more home foreclosures, the housing market plummeted, as well as our eguity in them. unemployment rose and when it came right down to tooth and nail to passing the necessary energy legislation to help Americans Nancy Pelosi Raps the Gavel to recess the House, orders the microphones turned off, orders the cameras turned off and the press out of the house chambers and then orders the lights turned off so the rebelling Republicans whom wanted to pass this needed legislation and stay in session till it was done could no longer be seen or heard. Pelosi and her hord of democrats then went on a taxpayer funded five week vacation and so Pelosi could jet all over the country to promote her stupid book. wonder how much her trips spewed contaminants into the air?

John McCain's VP choice #3 (cont'd)
McCain and Romney would have raised cane and put a prop under it for pulling that stunt and NcCain would have called them back into session and ordered them to stay there until they gave Americans the legislstion we want and needed to relieve the strain on our finances due to rising gas and food prices.

Romney is still the best choice because a candidate whom is known for their STRONG pro-life beliefs would kill McCain. Romney on the other hand lives pro-choice-he doesn't have to make a speech abput it. He has proven he can accompish what is needed to be done and he is a loyal family man whom stood by his wife through her health problems unlike someone Democrat we know and loyal to others as well. He is Young, clean as a whistle, Articulate, smart, visually appealing, is a strong debater, and knows how to handle money the way it should be and has proven he can. God only knows how much we need that management experience now. Forget the flip-floping most of you do it yourself. It's either Barack Hussein Mohhamad Obamba/Biden (two rotten eggs in a basket) or McCain/Romney.

We do not need a suppressive dictatorship-like rule whom the Democrats and George Soros would force us into with no place to run and no place to hide if they control the Whitehouse, legislative branch, and nominate and select radical Judges to sit on the Supreme Court and around the country. We,our children, and grandchildren will be living in fear and with no rights as true born or naturalized citizens with no freedom to practice out religions. So think I am paranoid-you will remember what I said when it happens. unless you voters put a stop to this nonsense before it is too late!

Although I've certainly heard reports of what New Orleans has become since Katrina, your account only reinforces in my mind my determination to NEVER set foot in that city again - or at least, not until Ray Nagin and those like him are out of power there. My attitude is, if Nagin wants his "chocolate city", fine with me, because I don't have to live there or even visit there - but I'll be darned if I'm going to VOLUNTARILY put a dime of my own money into THAT town. If I find myself on the Gulf Coast sometime in the future, I'll spend my money in Mississippi or Alabama or Florida. Maybe this hurricane that's currently battering Haiti will turn north and put New Orleans out of its misery once and for all.

GOP VP
I first heard of Kay as GOP VP from Dick Morris, and the more I think about it, the more I like it.

McCain's VEEP
Definitely Sarah Palin!!!

Just my 2 cents worth here...
I have posted a list here about several prospective VP choices for McCain...

Of those on that list here are my personal favorites in order:

1. Fred Thompson = Federalist/Conservative, with GREAT foriegn policy & constitutional experience & knowledge but will never happen...

2. Duncan Hunter = GREAT on border security, HomeLand Security, military experience & National Security, but again doubtful that he ever gets the spot...

3. Haley Barbour or Bob Riley tied = Barbour was FANTASTIC in Katrina Crisis & rebuilding Mississippi, Both Riley & Barbour GREAT executive experience & GREAT on balancing state's budgets & pro-job & pro-education policies with good sound conservative records as governors...

4. Romney / Palin / Pawlenty / Steele 4-way tie, all have moderate to great executive experience and sound budgetary records & policies as governors with good conservative records, probably the most "likely" picks for McCain...

6. Kay Hutchinson & Elizabeth Dole are GREAT, but would be too OLD for most voters to consider in 4-8 years after a McCain Administration...

Just my 2 cents worth here...

Standhisground
You would be well advised to stay away from New Orleans. The National Guard is still there for law enforcement. It is still that toilet that is overdue for a flushing. If you value life and limb, go to Mississippi, see the devastation and see how the plan set out by Barbour has improved it in a logical, methodical way. Don't contribute to the New Orleans corruption. But, before you say you are waiting for Nagin to leave, see who follows him into office. New Orleans is the city of my birth. It was a far different place way back when.

Kay or Sarah
But he MUST shake things up. Many think he lacks the courage to rock th eboat - even given his stint in the Hanoi Hilton.

McCain MUST choose a woman running mate for all the reasons Medved offers.

(Medved: Please stop using spell-checker. "Sore" is, indeed a correctly spelled word, but you meant "soar." And the context indicates "euphoria," not "euphoric," in the same sentence.)

I Am Mad as Hell
I assume your large three-part monologue would have been screamed if you had been speaking it. Why don't you unwad your drawers? It appears that your messiah Romney will get the VP slot. I will just be glad when the announcement is made and people like you can stop your bellyaching.

BTW, there is that silly, small situation of the company that your lord and savior took over and personally ran. cf. United States of American v. Bain Capital and Damon Corp., Federal District Court for Massachusetts, U.S. Attorney Stern prosecuting the criminal action. Bain had to pay $180,000,000 plus change for overbilling Medicare. It's just another little matter that is easily ignored, along with others. Your messiah said he made the U.S. Attorney aware of the 'problem'. U.S. Attorney Stern says his holiness is a liar. I'm sure it was just an honest mistake.

reply to xcept4alltheothers @ 09:48
You've just stated precisely the reasons why Palin will not be selected--she's TOO impressive.

Good idea in theory but
John despises Kay Baily plus she is too close to GWB. Unfortunately there are no other plausable choices on the Republican team that could fit the bill.

Teflon Don
McCain's choice will be the choice of the Bush family and Karl Rove. It will be Mitt Romney.

TOM CRUISE or ARLEN SPECTER BEAT ROMNEY
Tom Cruise's L RON RUBBARD decision-maker compass is similar to Romney's, but Cruise is better looking...

Arlen Specter, has the sympathy vote from a lot of folks in Pennsylvania and would clearly help in that state. He has the same general political views as Romney (wildly fluctuating!).

KAY BAILEY HUTCHINSON would be a more reliable and trustworthy decision-maker. This choice has the potential of effecting our country and party for decades, and I am concerned about ROMNEY's vacillation history and potential.

Pawlenty is a yawn. McCAIN must not screw this one up.

Kay?
Another oil shill from Texas. Ya that would make sense, to your right wing brainwashed mind.

Mick & Dick = Bad News for Conservatives
I just reread the Dick Morris piece from a couple days ago. He too is pushing Hutchison.

Morris is a disgruntled Democrat and Medved is at best a “Repubican.” They are not Conservatives.

Conservatives beware whenever these two team up.

Steele would be excellent choice
Except that he's not likely to be chosen.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson as VP ??
What a simply wacky idea. She has no national recognition or solid record of accomplishment. To think that women voters would vote the GOP ticket simply because it has a woman as the VP candidate would be entirely condescending to women. Besides, she is another Senator, and we are already in a mess on this score! McCain needs to pick someone with executive, business and economic credentials who can energize and balance the ticket. Romney does fit this bill as few others do. If McCain were to pick KBH, I would certainly consider sitting this one out in disgust.

Kay Bailey Hutchison
Looking at Sen. Hutchison's last reelection and thinking that here numbers were good doen not look at the Texas political landscape. The senator was reelected at the same time as Gov. Perry, and within a week of his inauguration, he completely dropped the border control issue that got him reelected. Alot of people around here really dont much care for that, and with Sen Hutchison being a bit weak on the border, and a bit weak on entitlement reform, she prolly would not be an asset here in Texas

McCain's Choice
The short list has been vetted and ready. McCain will pick someone HE is comfortable with. I would hope he would include someone a bit more conservative for balance. He will pick who HE can work with and who will, hopefully ADD to the ticket and secure an important state if possible. A woman on the ticket would be great. My sense is he will end up with Pawlenty or Romney. McCain is smart enough to have counsel to give him the good, the bad and the ugly about each candidate, in full candor. He does NOT need a yes person at this time. My sense is the choice of chatterbox Biden will add a dimension to his choice not previously at the forefront. Obama suffers from at least three maladies that are not fixable before the November election. They are INEXPERIENCE, (NO)JUDGMENT, and SOCIALIST. He cannot run fast enough or far enough, or fast enough to elude this trilogy. I did not mention Commander-in-Chief, because a cut and run mentality is a joke to sit in the Oval Office. There are no oratory skills that even the bodacious, loquacious, audacious Joey Biden can bring to bear that would rescue Obama from his lack of qualifications to lead our republic. In consideration of Kay Bailey Hutchison, this would not be possible at this time. You cannot have ANY female serve in the White House B.H. (Before Hillary). Hillary would tear up all her color coordinated pant suit wardrobe and be carried off to the nut house before she would "allow" such a foul event to take place, and deny her her throne over her subjects. Hopefully, McCain in not thinking of that right now. Just say NO to Obiden.

svpallava
I think Michael Steele would be an excellent choice. However, as he has not been vetted, he is not in the small group for consideration.

A poster named Lisa has constantly urged John Kasich. He is a good one.

The GOP really has a good field from which to choose. However, the narrow field chosen came from who-knows-where.

As serious as a heart attack
Mike,
I listen to your show regularly and God has given you a wonderful intellect and reasoning power. Thank you for standing strong.

VP choice is critical to McCain's campaign. The folks I deal with are looking for a VP that is more conservative than McCain. Romney was only the favorite of the Mormon voters, who voted for him 99% in the primaries. Mike, there is a huge issue for Christians about Mormonism. It is a huge deviation from what the Bible teaches about Christianity and it is known to be a cult. Choosing Romney will create a huge problem. If Romney were more conservative, I would vote for him on the ticket. You know that McCain already leaves a lot of questions in the evangelical voters' minds. I don't know a lot about most of the other possible VPs suggested so far, but Hutchison has leaned toward abortion in some past votes, as I understand it.

I still hold out for Mike Huckaby. He is a tremendous debater and would add passion to the ticket. He is an 'in your face issues' guy and holds the liberals' feet to the fire when asked a bold question. That's my opinion. Thanks!

McCain's VP Choice
While McCain's VP choice is important it should by now be down to two individuals, Mitt Romney and Kay Bailey Hutchison. They're the two best choices to push the ticket through to victory.

On another note there is a critical Congressional race going on now in Missour. In the 4th Congressional District the Republican challenger, Jeff Parnell (http://www.ocamericans.org/home/Victory08/JeffParnell/tabid/82/Default.aspx), is leading the Democrat incumbent, Ike Skelton. Jeff Parnell is leading in the polls 55% to 47%. Yes, the Republican is up by 8 points. What makes this extremely noteworthy is that Ike Skelton is the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and he is Speaker Nancy Pelosi's butt boy. We need Jeff Parnell (R) to sweep to victory and take Ike out!

Veep Choice
I agree with svpallava. I would LOVE to see Michael Steele. He is a fantastic Orator, an exciting personality,a great debator, a fiery critic of Obama, has a large, commanding presence, more conservative than McCain, Pro-Life, Catholic, Young and an African American. He would be a NATURAL!

MICHAEL STEELE
I agree with svpallava. I would LOVE to see Michael Steele. He is a fantastic Orator, an exciting personality,a great debator, a fiery critic of Obama, has a large, commanding presence, more conservative than McCain, Pro-Life, Catholic, Young and an African American. He would be a NATURAL!

VP Choice
I think Gov. Tim Pawlenty would be the better choice as McCain's vice president. He's young, energetic, popular in the Midwest, has crossover appeal and few baggage. I don't have anything against Kay Bailey, but I don't think she would draw a substantial amount of much coveted voters. Probably, older middle-class women will go with McCain anyway and younger women will vote for Obama. Just have Kay as one of the keynote speakers at the upcoming GOP convention. She can remind voters which party had the first female congressional member and who led women's right to vote (it was the Republican party).

Huckabee would be the best choice.
The only reason Huckabee is not the top of the ticket is because "The Establishment" sucked the Oxygen out of his campaign. Why? Because Huckabee wasn't beholden to anyone but "We the People". With all that was thrown against Huckabee he still was #2 in GOP delegates.

Huckabee connects with "the people". A McCain/Huckabee ticket would appeal to all who hold conservative ideals (limited government, free markets, massive tax reform, etc.) true to heart.

The biggest risk to McCain in going with Huckabee would be threats by GOP Establishment financial backers who want to keep power/wealth flowing up vs. level the playing field for all citizens of our lands.

McCain/Huckabee would be the best team for our greater prosperity and security going forward.

Peace,

YK

MEDVED = MR. CELLOPHANE
Medved's ongoing, perennial dislike is so painfully transparent, he's "Mr. Cellophane" from the movie, "Chicago."

What a totally asinine article.

Medved's constant bad-mouthing of Romney, some of which he trys but fails to do in a subtle manner, apparently is religion-based.

VEEP CHOICE
Greetings Michael,

My husband loves your show!!!I listen sometimes-LOL. You are right on target, I do believe that Senator Kay Hutchison would be the better pick...she is a woman and a strong conservative. The Democrates definately would not expect that, and that would put Mccain over the top and draw some undecided Hilary supporters over.

PROF61
The Huckabee supporters could say the same thing about the constant bad-mouthing of him.

I just scanned the article again. He calls Pawlenty and Romney 'safe and reassuring' and 'fine men'. Where do you find religion-based criticism there? Pawlenty is not of the same religion as Romney.

I vote no to Kay
Kay has attended several Bilderberger meetings, the same group of World Elite that want to destroy the USA and gobble it up in the New World Order.

She is one of the enemy.

JUST SAY NO to KAY.

HoW ABOUT A Patriotic Christian woman?
How about Mike Huckabee?
How about Someone not backed by the CFR?
How about someone not backed by the TRI Lat's?
How about someone who believes in America first?

Ikester
You are certainly entitled to your opinion but I disagree with several things you said. You say Huckabee is a great debater. (You wrote Huckaby, maybe they spell his name different in your neck of the woods) I watched most of the early debates. To me, Huckabee was a likeable guy, but was sorely lacking in knowledge on certain key issues. Anytime foreign policy or the War on Terror were discussed, Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, and Hunter to name a few could discuss the matter intelligently, but Huckabee would either crack a joke or smile and ramble incoherently as if he had no clue what was being discussed. That doesn't give me much confidence that he's ready to be president.

I'm a Texan
KBH is boring, uncharismatic, and conservatives don't believe she's a REAL conservative.

You want excitement? Nominate Ann Coulter!

McCain/Coulter 2008!

Ind Observer
It is spelled Huckabee and your sarcasm is noted. Your evaluation of his response misses that he was always asked questions about religion that none of the other candidates were. It is, also, false as to his responses.

I, too, liked Duncan Hunter. However, please note that for every 26 minutes given to each of the 'top tier', as decided by the MSM, the 'second tier' were given only 6 minutes each. It is impossible to say what anyone's overall impression would have been had all been given equal time. Surely, one benefit would have been that Duncan Hunter would have been far better known.

17 Summers
Perhaps we were watching different debates. I only recall one question from a moderator that specifically dealt with religion in the debates I saw. It was asked of Romney, Huckabee, and a couple of others.(McCain and Thompson I think) To me, religion and politics are separate issues so I wasn't watching the debates for religious instruction.

As far as the campaign as a whole, Romney was constantly attacked regarding his religion. Huckabee was sometimes attacked, sometimes praised for his religion. I recall that Huckabee frequently brought up his religion, especially in certain states.

Prior to the debates, the only candidate I knew much about was Giuliani. Based on their answers, Huchabee was not one of the top candidates in my book. Based on who the democrats are running, I will be voting for McCain even if he chooses Ron Paul as a running mate.

Romney Best Choice!
Romney is McCain's best choice. At the beginning of his acceptance speech, he should say something like this, "I'm Mitt Romney, and I have fewer houses than John Kerry, John Edwards, the Kennedys, and other democrats. Like them, I am deeply concerned about the financial burdens that Americans are facing right now. I have the economic experience to help find solutions to lessen those burdens. Romney will deliver Nevada, Colorado, perhaps even Michigan.

Sarah Palin
It's time for a revolution.

Face it, the Veep Selection will do
nothing for McCain. If he goes conservative on us and actually makes a wise choice (based on ability instead of Medved's push for skin color, gender or looks), then there might be some hope if McCain keels over from a heart attack after being elected. Sometime early March 09 should suffice. Otherwise our hope lies in other areas.

Hoogendyk in....Levin out. Carl Levin's a dinosaur and needs to go in a big way. The guy wins through urban vote and the way Detroit keeps shrinking, Hoogendyk might just have a shot.

No way Kay
Not in a million years. I live in Texas and can't stand Hutchison. She has never met a wasteful government program that she didn't like. She also put an amendment into a spending bill to eliminate the border fence that Duncan Hunter worked so hard to get passed into law. She is totally worthless and I can't wait until she retires. I didn't vote for her last time when she was up for re-election and wouldn't vote for her for in a national election. The thought of her breaking tie votes in the Senate as VP would be enough reason to vote independent.

Sarah Palin would be a MUCH better choice.

According to Fox News this morning

the McCain campaign is privately saying that McCain has narrowed his VP "short list" down to four (4): Pawlenty, Giuliani, Lieberman and Ridge. Under the banner of "DEVELOPING" (as in "developing story!") Fox News is saying one on these 4 will be announced maybe as early as the end of this week.

Ind Observer
I am not defending Huckabee, I am stating a fact. In the California debate, specifically, Huckabee and Ron Paul were sitting to the far left of the moderator. When Huckabee was finally asked his first question, after a back and forth between Romney and McCain, the question was who would Jesus vote for. At the time he answered the question, both Huckabee and Paul expressed their dismay on not getting equal numbers of questions. Go back and look at the debate. Give me on debate during which Romney was questioned on his religion and/or Huckabee remarked on Romney's religion. I recorded all of the debates and have seen them more than once. I watched all of the Democrat debates, as well. Further, I watched the Libertarian convention of which their debate was part. I am more than happy to claim ignorance where I don't know the facts. Here I know the facts.

Furthermore, as I stated previously, Hunter could have become a better known nationally had the MSM decided to deign him equal time. He would have been a good candidate to go farther in the race. He had more good ideas than just his anti-open border stand, unlike Tancredo who was a one issue candidate.

Ind Observer
BTW, you misspelled Huckabee. And, I am firm in my faith, so I didn't watch the debates for religious instruction either. If I need that, I will call a priest.

PALIN
A diamond in the rough.

Michael Steele has no chance
However, he'd be an excellent choice. The RNC didn't give him the slightest of assistance during his last campaign. There's no reason to believe they'll support him now.

KBH would be a disaster and would get torn to shreds in a debate with Biden. She's also a Jesse Helms protege; which won't go over well nationally given the current environment.

John Kasich would be nice, as would Huckabee. But, those guys are unabashedly conservative. Which won't go over well with McCain.

Veep
I'm sure that McCain will decide who he wants for VP. If you were going to do "something different" then instead of Kay (who I like but she is too bland, another senator, another older senator, etc.) why not consider the governor from Alaska or Michael Steele or the Lady CEO (I forget her name)?

Can anyone say...
Harriet Meyers? This would be a similarly stupid move, but it doesn't matter.

Vote Independent/Third Party and let the miserable GOP go to the grave.

R.A.M.
The way the GOP has treated Michael Steele is shameful. The man is highly intelligent, articulate, personable, and has a good grasp on the problems we are facing internally and internationally.

Both Fox News and CNN have reported that McCain is expected to announce his VP tomorrow (Thursday).

Fox News Report
I haven’t yet seen the story that Josh refers to but if the report is correct, the pick will probably be Pawlenty.

Of course I would never put it past McCain to commit suicide. One hopes, however, that good friends like Fred Thompson have been keeping sharp objects out of his reach.

Joe Oliva
PLEASE don't remind me of Harriet Miers. What a dumb move that was!

17 Summers
Lighten up. Go back and read my posts. I never said Huckabee attacked Romneys religion in any debate. He has made several comments outside of the debates though. But, like I said, I don't look to politicians for religious instruction so I don't care what any of them say about religion as long as they uphold my constitutional rights regarding religion.

I didn't watch all of the debates, but they were interesting. The YouTube debate was the least informative in my opinion. I do remember the Jesus question. If I recall, Huckabee responded with a joke. Like I said, he's a likeable guy, I'm just not impressed with his lack of understanding in certain areas.

Ind Observer
Frankly, for all of the complaints about the forum, I enjoyed the Saddleback forum better than the ones we saw during the primary.

Clinton vs Hutchinson 2012?
O.K. of course she is great, what with being from God's Country and all and I like her, BUT....

Since Obama's mouth is making McCain look like more of a winner every day I think McCain should pick someone like Jindal.

And anyway, the first time I heard the rumors I said the world is not ready for "another Texan." Now that is only true because they just don't seem to get the greatness of US. [that was a joke, please]

Anyway wouldn't that set up Clinton vs. Hutchinson 2012? I'm not even ready for that. [another cute one]

I think McCain-Hutchinson would be a winner, but only because Obama is becoming so obviously obamnible.

Obama is down in polls, because people are beginning to see him as he really is. Not qualified, not Real America, not electable.

And who wants an irritating, obnoxious, arrogant, sour grapes, witch as First Lady.

Recovering Liberal

Sarah Palin
If McCain is leaning toward a female VP, Gov. Palin is a great choice.

A Woman or a Person of Color?
Sure Mike...God forbid that he pick a white male. Affirmative action at work with the Vice-Presidential pick.

Palin?

Why would a true conservative like Palin or Jindal hitch their political wagon to a RINO horse like McLiberal?

They should keep their powder dry for 2012.

Otherwise they risk becoming the next Jack Kemp or John Edwards.

KBH for VP?
Not sure I can agree that KBH is the right choice. On a personal note, I have written her numerous times as one of my senators and sad to report that the few responses I get back are lengthy BORING LETTERS telling ME why SHE is or is not supporting a particular issue which comes off to me SHE KNOWS BETTER than the VOTERS who elected her. Too much hangs in the balance this election cycle to take a chance on her performance on the campaign stump and/or in the debates.

KBH close, but best is Palin!
If Mr. Medved thinks KBH is so boring (and she is), why would McCain pick her? Gov. Sarah Palin is young, conservative, an NRA lifetime member, pro-family (5 children, including Trig, a Downs Syndrome child), and an energetic corruption fighter in the Teddy Roosevelt mold. She would outshine Biden in a VP debate, and bring a lot of excitement to this race, as well as bring in some of the PUMAs/Hillary supporters. She brings the "state" of women to the Republicans, and that's what Sen. McCain needs.

Wow. I think I had a post removed...
Has anyone ever had a post removed? I posted something about an hour ago. It appeared briefly but then disappeared. Odd...

Peace,

YK

Yt...yep

I've had some really great pieces... and I mean gems... disappear into the ether.

Of course, when I reconstruct them, they're never quite as good. You know how that is.

My best stuff... vanishes! That's why I STILL don't have a Pulitzer.

But in seriousness, yes, it happens. And sucks when it does.

to R.A.M.
I laughed when I saw you referring to Huckabee as "unabashedly conservative." I assume you were talking about social issues only. The guy spent his years in the governor's mansion setting rapists and murderers free, raising taxes and pushing college scholarships for children of illegals.

Best Female Choice for McCain
Despite the Democrats showing every picture they have with McCain and Bush in order to paint McCain with the same brush, Condi Rice would be the very best female pick McCain could ever make. She is extremely competent, conservative, and has a BRAIN in between her ears. She is reflective, a strong figure and did I say capable? Most unusual these days! My sense is she would not take the job, but would be a working VP and not just someone to attend state funerals when the President cannot. Rice is not a yes person, she will tell it like it is, and would be great counsel to the President. She has a good grasp of foreign policy and the art of negotiation with countries with widely varying cultures and politics. A lot of pundits think white voters might not vote for black candidates. Those same pundits say nothing when about 88% of the black voters favor the black candidate and vote accordingly. I would say that if you show the American voters competent candidates, they WILL vote for and put them in office, period. When you put up a charismatic, but inexperienced person, who lacks basic judgment and often votes outside the mainstream of Democrats, people with a brain will reject that socialist, period. I would remind voters that Condi Rice has the brass AND brains to be Commander-in-Chief, as well as McCain. I do not believe you could ever say that with Senator Obama. That could just be important for our republic in the long run. Cut and run just won't cut it if you end up fighting these terrorists on our own soil. With Obama, this could well happen. And remember, you probably will NOT be armed if Obama has his way. Obama would be a great candidate for the communist party. by experience, associations and tendencies. He already had the endorsement of Fidel Castro. That speaks volumes.

Not Pro-life
While Hutchison does have a terrific voting record on restricting abortion, showing a commitment to making abortions "rare", she believes Roe V Wade was correctly decided. As such, she is ultimately pro-choice.

While Democrats can be bamboozled into voting for someone based on novelty, already wary Republicans would stay home if KBH were McCain's pick.

BrianR: Same here! What's going on???

I was also pretty sure that some of mine that went "poof" were surely Pulitzer winners! :-(

Harkin Amendment - YEA
Can anyone please explain to me why Medved failed to mention Kay's YEA on the Harkin Amendment?

She would be...
acceptable to McCain because she is sufficiently Liberal. It would be a Mondale/Ferraro ticket all over again, with the same results, but McCain is toast in November, regardless.

Mr Conservative
While I share your admiration for Condi Rice, she is pro-choice and pro-affirmative action. My hope it that she plays some kind of foreign policy role in the McCain Administration, since she has an unparalleled understanding of the Russia problem.

Her response to the invasion of Georgia ("this is NOT 1968") and stance with Poland ("any attack on Poland will be considered an attack on the United States") set exactly the right tone for staring down Tsar Putin.

my big 3
I just posted my top 3 on Novak.
Here they are again.

Rep.Marsha Blackburn R-Tenn. [a woman]
Rep.Eric Cantor R-Vir. [a jew]
Rep. John Boehner R-Oh. [an 18yr.congressman,
and leader of the house]
Pick one.

ROB

Michele Bachmann ...
is a capable moral and fiscal conservative with a proven record of trying to get government out of people's lives.

Hahahaha, Anne!

Hey! Check out my blog for some great pics from last Friday when Pasadena Phil and I went shooting!

"Nevertheless, she is a she
--- and that fact in itself would allow McCain’s choice to upstage Obama’s."

Translation: The majority of women are clueless and will vote for a woman for that sole reason. They are too stupid to vote on principles and ideals. It doesn't matter what the female candidate's policy positions are.

Gee Mike, so I guess your wife is a Hillary supporter?

The sad truth is that many of today's women still want the security they always wanted. They've just realized they can marry the government and use it's force to get the security they want. Are these the women you are referring to voting Republican? Is that the Republican party that you want?

Tim...

I should BE so lucky.....

Hutchinson
While I don't like the prospect of four senators involved in this election, Kay Bailey Hutchinson would be a much better selection then some of the others McCain has been rumored to be considering. She meets all of the qualifications, and they are as follows: She's a conservative.

LOL, Tim!

As long as I could teach him to "whiz" sulfuric acid or cyanide gas!

Many Good Candidates - 3 Right choices
Mitt Romney
Bobby Jindal
Sarah Palin

Any of the above would be home run choices.

Mitt supporters will do more than just vote for McCain, they will support with their pocketbook.
This is a no brainer choice. The time is now for Mitt.

We will hear from Jindal & Palin in the future.

according to fox news
there are 4 people now on McCain's VP short list (supposedly confirmed anonymously by "sources" inside the McCain camp): Pawlenty, Giuliani, Lieberman and Ridge.

Interesting that 3 of the 4 are pro-choice.

Robert
What proof do you have of that?

Hank Rearden
Ignore Roberto. He's nothing but a liberal troll, and all his posts disappear in the morning.

BrianR
I know exactly who Robert is, we've been sparring for quite some time. However, I do appreciate your warning.

PALIN FOR ME, AS WELL
She has a track record of kicking out the good ole boy networks. If anyone of the four candidates would represent change, she would be it. Situated in Alaska, she is ready to push for more drilling - and can stand behind her words.

MCCAIN SHOULD SURPRISE
JC Watts. Enough said.

BTW
Hutchinson has a problem with earmarks and spending. SHe's not the first woman so afflicted.

Robert
Since when does South Dakota represent the nation? But, if that is the case in S.D., it is what it is. I am all about the states deciding this. The supreme court had no business deciding this matter, but that is the law of the land because the congress does not have the cojones to excercise its constitutional authority to overturn the supreme court, or any other court for that matter.
The American people have elected a republican president 7 of the last 10 tries. The justices that have been appointed have not been proportiently representative. If the American people were so in love with Roe, than why do they (as we will this year) continue to support the republican (Pro-life) candidate?

Robert
Any Republican will not push for the repeal of Roe, that isn't the point. The supreme court was never intended to decide such matters, and that is the point. You can say that Roe, which is the equivalent of 40 million dead babies, is a "happy equilibrium", but it is still not reprentative.
Why not go to the states? At least in that case the people decide. What is wrong with that?

HA!
I heard that about women spending!

Palin is WONDERFUL for the drilling issue, or McCain could throw us and thrill us with Duncan Hunter (why isn't he even going to be speaking at the Convention?) or Bobby Jindal, or Michael Steele. I hope he lets his maverick hair down a little, I am ready for some fun! Too much bad blood in the party lately.

We probably won't get a woman
in the VP slot.

That ol' rascal wants to win the women voters over himself. ;)

Sarah Palin the best choice now
Michael it's probably going to be Mitt (and I'm a Mitt supporter), but the best move now is Sarah Palin. Anti Corruption, experienced, tough, a woman, and pleasant to the eye. It would reaffirm the Maverick in MacCain (but this time please convservatives) and ensure McCain total victory in 48 states.

Peace,

Tk

"Fifty-State Strategy - I
I will both provide the key-reason to support Kay, and then refute all the concerns typed previously.

For details not included herein, check-out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kay_Bailey_Hutchison. Then consult a contrarian site, to ensure all reasonable counter-arguments can be cognitively refuted: http://www.nokay.org/. Finally, note the conceptual summaries here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/300946/senate_rep ort_card_kay_bailey_hutchison.html.

First, I have argued that Hillary proved that "The Double-X Chromosome" Syndrome" is potent when she flipped New Hampshire following her (faux)-tears luncheonette experience. Noting that more than half of the electorate is female, this is a strong last-minute tug on everyone...and not just the Clintonites.

Second, it would not be perceived as manipulative were this “maverick” to choose someone with beliefs that are simpatico with his own; she has sufficient administrative experience (in both the private and public sectors) to satisfy this component in her CV (unlike Obama/Biden).

Third, the ONLY potential (politically-motivated) scandal is long-since resolved. Although I decry the anti-Mormonism associated with Romney (whom I’d preferred for Prez), I can appreciate both the fact that Kay has no such profound potential-negative and McCain/Hutchison is probably more “electable” overall that either –/Romney or Romney/-. Romney can serve as Secretary of Commerce.

"Fifty-State Strategy" - II
[continued]

Fourth, her term-limit pledge (according to something I read within the past few days) has been modified to accommodate her intent to step-down after a fellow-Texan (Cornyn) maintain state-level seniority; she did so, also, because she didn’t want to compete for the gubernatorial nomination.

Fifth, although I directly challenged MM on the Illegals-issue when he visited Philly last fall, this is not a transcendent issue among non-conservatives (even if we think it should be); thus, Kay’s stance on this (and whatever other less-than-conservative stances on spending bills that some dislike) doesn’t disqualify.

Sixth, mentioning Phyllis Schlafly’s name is illustrative of the fact that upwards of 42% of surveyed (on the CNN web-site) support a woman (Kay or Palin…who is too inexperienced and, thus, would deprive McCain of that argument against Obama).

Seventh, Pawlenty was excellent on Sunday in Philly—and either he or Kay would fare well when debating a strident Biden—but he doesn’t add much (perhaps one state), can be perceived as a rising-star, may be perceived just as “safe” as some in the MSM have portrayed Biden, and isn’t a girl.

Eighth, she may not add a state beyond Texas…but she amplifies all 50 of them; also, let’s not worry about re-election or re-re-election when the priority is election.

Ninth, Brandi (probably a female) argues that the Hillary-vote is unattainable, but this is contradicted by (a)—polling, which shows flow from the D’s to the R’s on a national level, and (b)—observation that the targets include the suburban/Republican soccer-moms who could be swayed from being mesmerized by rhetoric to coming to their senses.

Tenth, others (such as Eric Cantor) would only carry state-level and/or regional appeal, whereas Kay would immediately mesh comfortably with everyone (including boys) nationally; Condi/Portman are too closely associated with Bush.

"Fifty-State Strategy" - III
[continued]

Eleventh, Mashkiki wrote correctly: “Sen. Hutchinson is a woman of accomplishment, experience, style and grace”; although Romney has comparable characteristics, RomneyCare is bankrupting Massachusetts.

Twelfth, Nana complains that Kay replies to her letters with SPECIFICS; they may be “boring”…but isn’t this more refreshing than a boiler-plate “sure, I’ll think about it” response?

Thirteenth, other potentials (from the Huckster to multiple members of the House) carry less regional/national appeal; her “problems with earmarks and spending” would be trumped by McCain’s absolutist postures on these fiscally-conservative concerns.

Fourteenth, those who rail against her having voted for the Harkin Amendment (which affirmed Roe) are counterbalanced by her having voted pro-Life on substantive matters; furthermore, she would follow McCain’s lead on this issue.

Please God,I won't ask for anything else
The convention is in St Paul=Pawlenty.

I am not an ethanol person, but he is good on education and is a tightwad. He will do quite nicely!

But now it is out of the bag: Sarah Palin is our anti-Pelosi. She is a corner pocket for the Republican party, and I don't want any of you fellas looking her up on the cover of Vogue.
