Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

From the settling of the American west in 1891 until the end of World War Two, Americans enjoyed only a single brief period of whimsy and leisure. The "Roaring Twenties" were but a brief respite from the serious nature of American culture, and even then, those partaking in the lively events of the day, did so rebelling against the socially repressive laws of the Prohibition era. The magic of the day was cut short in late 1929 with the crash of the stock market, and the ear splitting thud that came with the collapsing house of cards emblematic of highly leveraged investments.

From 1891 until the onset of the American Expeditionary Forces participation in World War One, America was able to take its first serious look outside of its borders and begin to assess its role in the greater world. The sailing of the Great White Fleet and our entry into World War One were the first looks over the wall, and a peek at what our role in the world might become.

Europe, left exhausted and drained of manpower after WWI, combined with our turning of the tide in Europe, encouraged Woodrow Wilson to push for a leading role for the US in a world more connected by telegraph, cruise liners, and bourgeoning immigration. The solid rejection of this notion by Americans was devastating to Wilson, who failed to grasp just how introspective America was as a whole, and how isolationist this introspection made the country collectively. The Roaring Twenties became symbolic of the rejection of our role in the greater world, and our move toward a focus on self.

The fun of the twenties was swiftly and harshly replaced by the stock market crash and the following Great Depression. America again was forced into an era of subsistence living and short term survival. World War II called for continued sacrifice and selflessness, and by then end of WWII, America had yet to have a generation that could reliably plan out into the future, or enjoy the vagaries of life. To this point, Americans had been simply surviving at home or sacrificing abroad in order to preserve freedom across the globe.

Leisure remained a wisp of a glimmer, and a virtual unknown to most Americans.

By the fifties Social Security gave hope to a long sacrificing generation of Americans, and the GI Bill spurred economic growth and ultimately, the baby boom. The baby boom begot the first generation of Americans born into stability, and a financial security that had finally buried the memories of the great Depression. And the first by-product of this security was rampant liberalism and the loathing of America.

All of this hit me in a flash within the first few hours I was aboard the Disney Magic last week as I enjoyed a Caribbean cruise vacation. It seemed strangely odd to me that a country that could produce a multi-billion dollar industry out of thin air, one that also has produced zillions of cross-generational, and inter-continental memories, could be so self-loathed by a huge portion of its population.

America is the only country in the world that could produce and export Disneyland…and it works. The wonder of allowing children to be children in a fantastical environment and exporting that goodwill across the world is an unofficial diplomatic coup that no other country could pull off. The wonder of America is that we are beginning to reap the benefits of financial and physical security…increased leisure time, travel opportunities, and indeed, entire new industries to help us fill the time.

Yet we continue to loathe the country that provides that opportunity, a country singularly capable of executing such a feat. We are a country apart from others in this regard, but a country pulling all others along nonetheless.

Yet we overly criticize our country, our past, our government, and our policies. We burn our flag. We desecrate monuments to our history. We self-loathe.

In the short fifty years that we have stabilized as a rich and prosperous country we have accelerated growth and opportunity across the globe. We have been a force for stability and security, and hundreds of millions of people live free because of our sacrifices and generosity. And yet we pick at our imperfections and diminish our accomplishments through hyper-critical analyses of policies executed with the best of intentions and overwhelming governmental approval.

We have been an overwhelming force of good throughout the entirely of our existence. We have saved Europe from utter devastation twice in the last century. We went to the moon. We have produced an overwhelming majority of the most meaningful inventions, and developed an overwhelming majority of the most prolific companies. We send more volunteers to the rest of the world than any other nation, and send aid endlessly across the globe. We donate our wealth in record amounts. We import thousands of students to our first rate universities every year. We share our good fortune across the globe through trade, tourism, charity, and aid.

We share Disneyland, and its message of hope and goodwill, with the rest of the world.

What's not to loathe?

Miseducation
Since the late 1960s, American pub. education has deliberately promoted an anti-American, anti-Western civilization, anti-religion curriculum in favor of a "multicultural" program that praises any and all other nationalities, languages, religious practices, and ethnicities. To the multiculturalist, a stone-age tribe without even an oral tradition is preferable to all of Shakespeare, who has the terrible problem of being a white, European male. Students, without resource to counterarguments or points of view, are relentlessly indoctrinated into the hatred of America as a slave-holder, Indian killer, woman oppressor, working-man suppressor, and militaristic aggressor. Many students are so ill educated they "graduate" believing America is as fascist as Hitler's Germany was, recognize no difference between communism gulags and today's press' portrayal of Gunatanamo, and feel no obligation or patriotism toward the country that has freed a billion people worldwide over a century. If conservatives cannot unite to challenge and defeat "modern" liberal education, the entire nation as its people have know it for two centuries will cease to exist.

Those who loathe
our country and constantly bash it are plain crazy.
What other conclusion can you come to with all that America has to offer.

Juliet Smith's diary, Chapter 9 is up on my blog.
The Patriots don't stand for socialism in Juliet's world.

We are in the midst
of a civil war, so far bloodless, but every bit as profound as the one that took place in the 19th century.

The "loathers" make up a minority of the country, though a vocal and large minority, consisting mainly of the left/lib portion and their MSM publicizers and other sympathizers.

We must remember that WE are still the majority, and fight to retain our principles and mores that help define us as a nation.

renny
You pounded the proverbial nail...

I remember in 7th grade I had one lefty teacher, a music teacher, who turned music class into a thrice weekly personal rant against all things US government.
In the 9th grade I had another one, french this time, with an old guy who would climb atop his desk at the front of the room and insist we should all be making plans to overthrow the government and "hang tricky Dick from a telephone pole".

After a decade off between high school and college I was shocked to see just how far education had sunk. There were college students in English class who couldn't compose a coherrent sentence, probably because they had more teachers in high school like my two examples, many, many more. It was disheartening because I could seen even then where it would lead us.

It is no coincedence that those days were part of the "Me" generation. Everyone's 1st concern was "What's in it for me" and, it remains the same now.

If you heard the girl in New Hampshire asking John Edwards the question at one of his campaign stops a couple of days ago you'll know I tell the truth. I believe her exact words were "This is all about me." & "What will you do for me."
Then to prove the point even further, Edwards' own answer revolved around HIM.

Unfortunately, this attitude remains prevalent in American society today and, as long as we continue to have this 'problem' we won't really get anywhere 'as a people'.

It's why sloganeering, like the Obama catchphrase "Together we can make a difference" is so well received (even if he is actually saying it only because there is something in it for HIM).
Deep down everyone wants to be a 'part' of something larger than themselves. Especially in a time when it's obvious that everyone else is out for themselves.

What, me think?
While America may be good on balance, it is not perfect. Those of us who want to establish a "more perfect union" must engage in constructive criticism. Some parts of American history are very unfortunate. Let us not be like Japan, but let us learn the whole of our history and learn from it, good and bad.

Why do conservatives always say liberals hate America?

MAKING ENEMIES

It's easy to do. Want to lose a friend? Lend him money.

Want to make people hate your guts? Give him money.

Want to make enemies? Give him money and intangible aid.

Maybe that's what's happening with illegal aliens. Money and the intangibles. Maybe that's why they burn our flag or fly it upside down beneath a Mexican flag.

Makes you not want any friends. Makes you want to go back to those isolationist days.

Why do conservatives always say liberals
Liberalgoodman, I've listened to Ward Churchill, Noam Chomsky, John Kerry, Jane Fonda, Harry Belafonte, Jay Benisch, and many, many more voice their utter contempt for America time and again. That's why we conservatives always say that liberals hate America.

1929 & 2007
The likelyhood that the housing crunch will go much further into other stuff is likely. Now if this does, if this is a "crash" like the stock market crash (which harmed lots of folk who had no money in the stock market), then the analogy between the 20s and the current period come to mind.

In both cases, there was a minor recession and then a gilded age, and then....

It will be interesting to see how the lefties do when they are penniless...

Why is it that liberals
cannot separate out hate and constructive criticism?

No one on TH has any problems with someone giving "constructive" criticism of the Bush policies. In fact many of us conservatives criticize him for some of his agenda, particularly the immigration fiasco.

But, liberals don't give "criticism", they spout hate. Bush lied, people died, bush is Hitler, Bush is the biggest terrorist the world has ever known, ad nauseum. It's over the top, it's hateful.

Wanting Tony Snow to die of cancer is hateful.
Wanting Dick Cheney to die of a heart failure is hateful.

Learn the difference liberal scribblers.

How About This, Or Don't You Care?
And it seems wondrous to me that a country that can produce a billion-dollar industry, not to mention Disneyland, ranks 20th (internationally) in infant mortality.

With riches, high standard of living, and great opportunity, we have little children whose lives are without hope. They will never see Disneyland: they will never see a dentist. My local paper recently had an article about a church's night ministry. This church sends a van into the most hideous neighborhoods of the city to offer free medical care and access to social programs. They open up shop at 1-2-3 AM. The hook for getting local folk to come to the van is that the church offers hot soup. Every night they are overwhelmed with little children coming out of their houses to get a styrofoam cup of hot soup, in the middle of the night. If that doesn't bother you, it should. It sounds like a scene out of a Dickens novel.

So yes, we are a great country. And the more you close your eyes to the bad parts, the greater it seems.

Tamalak
I never stated that those hateful statements were made on TH.
They were made on DailyKos and HuffPo.

I was speaking in general terms about liberal hatred.

lilly
The church you speak of is doing its duty in seeing to it that these children get fed. So, where is it that no one cares. Obviously this church and its' members care and that is the way it should be.

Do you not give anything of yourself to charities?
Do you give food, clothing, toys during the year like everyone else?

Is that why you don't think people don't care?

Right, too, Lilly, that not every child gets to go to Disneyland. I never got to go because we could not afford it. That's the way it is, either you can afford it or not. I don't waste my time feeling bad because I never got to go to Disney.

Peppermint
Let us not forget the million or more every year that will never go to Disneyland because their mother wanted a more convenient choice.

Conservative Ron
That's right Ron. All those poor babies that won't even get to see the free stuff, like a sunrise or sunset, flowers blooming in spring, making snow angels on a cold day, enjoying a bubble bath, a warm hug, a mother's smile.

Pepp, Ron
These libs calling the vile things said by their own mouthpieces constructive criticism is beyond belief. I suppose Alec Baldwin talking about taking a .44 and blowing Bush away was a love note. Harry Belafonte calling Bush the "greatest terrorist" was a subtle attempt at constructive criticism. Danny Glover calling our country one "filled with deep-seated historically brutal racism" was just a helpful hint about race relations. Or Kerry calling our troops terrorists. Good ole Jean-Francoise; he's such a jokester!

I could cite dozens of examples. They're in the paper almost every day.

I don't know if these people are simply blind, or they think we're not paying attention, or what. But they've certainly earned the label.

BrianR
These libs think we're blind and so stupid that we will fall for their denials of being hatred. They are so arrogant they think they can say what they want and never be called on any of it.

I gotta wonder
How, in America, we support millions of illegal aliens who send enough money back to Mexico to make that their second largest source of income for Mexico.

Where the "bottom" 46% of the population pay no income taxes and get "Earned Income Credits" (cash) for being 'poor'.

These same "poor" have government subsidized housing, food stamps, education and medical care. Yet they can somehow afford cell phones, color TV's, Cable and automobiles.

How is it we are hated by our own?

Simple! We do not provide each equally! We need to become Communists and share the wealth commonly throughout the world. Don't you see it? We are selfish! We have too much!

That way excellence can be rewarded with mediocrity and stifle all ambition, work ethic and progress.

Bloody idiots think I'll work my tail off to feed the "village" can pack it up. I give generously to charity, volunteer in my community and help administrate my neighborhood. I'll teach you how to fish after feeding you a fish, then you are on your own, unless you are incapable. But that is not the bulk of the problem is it?

Why do we "hate freedom"?
This article is just---mindnumbing. As it's intended to be. According to this article, America is great, and worthy of praise, because she has more money than other countries...Not only that, she's greater than she ever HAS been, because she has more money than she's had in the past.

Consider the fact that everything that made this country great is dead or dying.

Regardless of the fact that the Founding Fathers were not Christian and the Government they set up was not/is not Christian, most Americans were--unashamedly so. Except for the times they let MONEY get in the way, ie their treatment of the Indians, they BEHAVED like Christians. They were generous, courageous, and morally strong. They had a standard of behavior. We aren't allowed to have a standard of behavior anymore, because that would be intolerant. We are not allowed to promote Christianity anymore because that is intolerant. All we are allowed to do is parade around flashing our money like tacky nouveau riche tourists, obnoxiously aping the natives.

We have replaced our DEITY, Christ, with a system of Government which not even our agnostic founding fathers championed. Even Thomas Jefferson would have winced at the idea of going to war with a foreign country in order to force Democracy down their throats.

People tell me my son is fighting in Iraq in order to make the world safe for Democracy. No, he isn't. He's fighting for your children, and for his friends, and for that tree over there, and those horses. He's fighting so that his sisters can go to Mass. He's fighting so that we can display a Creche at Christmas. He damn sure isn't "fighting for democracy" and he damn sure isn't fighting so America can give away more money and abandon her principles.

So go on and attack my patriotism, Mr. Columnist. I don't feel the need to defend it before you or anyone else. The big difference between us is, I love this country, and you love the political creed of the current administration.

Sing along, "Here we go again..."
As a regular (whisper) Liberal poster at Townhall.com I am always amazed by the wailing and gnashing of teeth and the "Booohooo, booohooo, the Liberals did it, booohooo, sniffle, sniffle".

Were the ones whi lynched blacks Liberals?
Were the police who murdered those poor Civil Rights workers Liberals?
Was Nixon with his henchmen and Watergate abuses a liberal?
Was Oliver North, of secret war fame, a Liberal?
Were the ones who manipulated the inteligence about WMD's in Iraq Liberals?
Were the ones who humiliated General Powell, (a really honourable man), with their falsehoods Liberals?
Were the Enron directors Liberals?
Were the thieves at Worldcom Liberals?
Are the gun-merchants who sell weapons to kids Liberals?
Is it the Liberals who force millions of Americans to go without health insurance?

So just give it a break, guys and gals. You're throwing stones in glass houses!

And lilly, your "How About This, Or Don't You Care" was right on.

And Mr. McBride: America is not loathed around the world as much as you think. But people are frightened by what they see as an immoral, arrogant administration just kicking out in blind frustration.

The good bits :-)

Katy, you've gone too far...
I resent, from the depth of my being your associating me and my liberal friends to you idiotic, moronic, stupid comment "Children can have sex, they have needs too". You need serious professional help.

And yes, "Gay's can marry, they need love too". Too right. You have gay friends? Obviously not!

Frigglesnitz
"Want to make an enemy? Lend him money." Right on! "Gratitude," said Dorothy Sayers through one of her characters in the book Gaudy Night, "is simply damnable. It makes me want to bite."

I once sponsored a small racing team. My letter to a sister telling her about this drew a letter from her asking why I didn't take that money and give it to her son so he could buy a car! I had never been less than generous to her and her family; yet the idea that I not only had money left that I hadn't given her, but that I dared give it to someone else, made her furious.

What those people who scream about the children who can't go to Disneyland (and I didn't go until I was 25 and moved to California and got a job) are really saying is "HOW DARE YOU HAVE ANYTHING LEFT TO ENJOY THAT YOU'RE NOT HANDING OVER TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?" I have had women come into my Sunday School class and ask for contributions to buy designer jeans for TheMostVulnerableAmongUs (the new name for ThePoor) and they were shocked to hear that since we don't buy designer jeans for our own children, we didn't think welfare kids deserved them either. It's not what people give you that makes you who you are. It's what you provide for yourself and your own.

Last night I watched one of my favourite movies "The Best Years of Our Lives" about men who mustered out at the end of World War II and what they went through. I was struck last night by Homer (the Navy man who had lost his hands) tiptoeing in to tuck in his younger sister, and the fact that her room was essentially a walk in closet. Not that long ago everyone lived like that and nobody thought a thing about it. Now that expectations have risen, if your parents don't spend $1500 a week to take you to Disneyland it's child abuse! And if you do spend that money on your own children, and one child in the slums can't go with you -- YOU'RE SCUM! Take one child from the slums and provide for him, and there are 100 more you didn't provide for, and YOU'RE SCUM! Because gratitude, you see, has been replaced by rising expectations -- and resentment that you still have anything left.

Ad Hominem - business as usual
Were the ones who lynched blacks Liberals?
Were the police who murdered those poor Civil Rights workers Liberals?

Can you say, "Robert Byrd - Ku Klux Klan?"

Was Nixon with his henchmen and Watergate abuses a liberal?

Can you say, "FBI Files, Clinton White House?"

Were the ones who manipulated the inteligence about WMD's in Iraq Liberals?

Can you say, "Gulf of Tonkin, Lyndon Johnson," or "Pearl Harbor, FDR?"

Were the ones who humiliated General Powell, (a really honourable man), with their falsehoods Liberals?

Can you say, "CBS, Dan Rather?"

Yes, I cherry-picked, and yes, both sides could go on and on about how evil the other side is, all to no avail. I've grown more than weary hearing about it. Problem is. . .in our society that seems to be recognized as the only way to get power and put ideas into play.

Open forums like TH and others certainly open the door to a strident, shrieking discussion, which frequently obscures what should be the true foundation for forming opinions:

It's the basics - ideas and the principles from which they come that matter. Humans, whether conservative or liberal are weak, prone to abuse whatever power they have, from whatever source they derive it. Ideas and principles have to come from a foundation, which, sadly, appears to be crumbling on both sides of the political fence.

Note How Focus Shifts
The article was a good rebuttal for world opinion about America and Americans. But, somehow it strangely ended with Disneyland as the saving grace proof of why we should not be loathed. Am I missing something here?

The comments then compounded the focus shift by getting into arguments about the Iraq war and whether criticizing it was hateful, then next about who heard hateful speech where, regarding administration people.

The best and most needed comments were the ones describing how Americans themselves have been carefully trained to be the best critics of America, in the classrooms of America -- for longer than most Americans realize it has been taking place.

The use of education to change America has had two primary results: the indoctrination against America by American education, and the dumbing-down of academics to the point where people are increasingly unable to grasp meaning or to "argue" intelligently, based on facts not emotions.

entitlement
AudiR10 makes some good points. A sense of gratitude has been replaced by a sense of entitlement: I deserve what you have.

Wants have been enshrined as "needs", and it's an attitude that's become pervasive. How often do we hear, "I NEED you to do_________."? No, you don't NEED me to do it, you WANT me to do it. The use of the word "need" somehow sanctions the most ridiculous request or demand.

We're encouraged to feel guilty for what we have, simply because somebody else might not have it. All of this goes far beyond appealing to our humane interest in protecting those in genuine need, and in fact makes a mockery of genuine need itself.

It's simply old-fashioned envy and covetousness, dressed up in the Sunday-best clothing of "need".

The people who loathe America basically aren't getting what they deem to be theirs. The only problem is that when they finally get enough laws passed to legally steal what they can't get any other way, there won't be anything left to steal.

LetsAllRelax
"Is it the Liberals who force millions of Americans to go without health insurance?"

Yeah, it is liberals like John Deadwards who made his fortune litigating junk science cases against GYNOBs. Now, women can't find these doctors because their malpractice insurance is so high they can't stay in practice. When they do find a doctor guess what the cost is much higher, so we have higher insurance rates that people cannot afford.

Yeah, it is the liberals who want illegals in this country to get free health care. Who do you think pays for that?

Why does health care cost so much because someone has to pay for all the "free" stuff liberals are willing to give away. What doesn't get covered gets passed on to the consumer.

What gets passed on to the consumer is higher insurance rates and higher doctor costs.

I'm Surprised...
...no one has spotted that Kathy is obviously a liberal plant in the style of Loyal Democrat, her insane, tangental ramblings couldn't be written by a rational person and are obviously just to discredit conservatives.
Other things to add to the great things about America
Inventing rock and roll (and subsequently punk rock).
Great food.
Great showers (we in Blighty just can't recreate that water pressure).
Some of the greatest (and admittedly some of the worst) films.
Some of the greatest works of literature.
South Park.
More to be added as and when....

Disneyland
Bravo!
The delusional fantasy of this article fits right in with the "see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil" attitude of its author, who makes a good living out of perpetuating the lie and fantasy of how we walk on water just because we're in the United States. This we do in the utter amazement of our generosity to others. Jesus must be distraught with envy, as he spoke of his imperfections!
But, in spite of all this, people still manage to write derogatory messages of hate.
My, how great we are.

Infant mortality in the USA
Want to know why it is so high???

Cause some of our babies are born WAY TOO EARLY.

Most one pound babies now survive, but not all - yet all are considered LIVE BIRTHS. If they later die, it is infant mortality.

Let's Draw Some Lines
Extreme Left: Anarchists. Hate the establishment and as usual with this crazy cadre have no plans beyond wholesale destruction of society.

Far Left: Hate democracy, capitalism and all they have built. Yearn for the theoretical perfection of socialism, with them in charge, support moves in that direction.

Moderate Left: Retain some sanity. Disagree with many status quo conditions but do not blanket-condemn everyone and everything other than themselves. Can engage in discussion without spewing hate and slogans.

We conservatives should be a little more careful about dumping all of these people into one bucket labeled "Liberal."

Can you say "White N!@@er?"
Quote: and the klan was no longer in him (I hope).

Hmm, not that long ago some of his stripes showed rather publicly if I'm not mistaken. . .

Had a Republican senator used identical words in a TV interview he would be now sitting on the sidelines. Whether that is right or wrong is irrelevant - it would have happened. See Trent Lott, for example.

replies to PokerGuy and LetsAllRelax
Nice to see some sanity on TH. I'm a liberal (I'd be a card-carrying liberal if I could figure out where to get the card!)academic in a bluer than blue state. I am not a Leftist. Liberals, as distinguished from those truly on the left, are NOT always running the US down. While conservatives were thumb-sucking isolationists, liberals (FDR) understood that we had no choice but to enter WWII. While conservatives rallied around politicians like Robert Taft, who was pretty isolationist, liberals like Truman knew that we had to oppose the Soviet Union. When conservatives were ever so polite to Southern racists (read issues of "National Review" from the early 60s--I dare you, right-wingers), liberals knew that racist violence and discrimination could not be ended without the use of federal power.

LetsAllRelax's list of evildoers can only be counteracted by some conservative's argument that either (a) none of the things on his list was evil; or (b) all of those evils were outstripped by liberals when they invented the hot school lunch program.

But why??
FDR "knew" that we had no choice but to enter WWII - why? Hitler's Germany was not a threat to the US, and probably wouldn't have ever been able to mount a credible threat against us short of developing nuclear weapons. Strange, though - though a fringe on both the far-left and far-right opposed the war, it was generally agreed to by both sides as essential to our own well-being.

Truman "Knew" that we had to oppose the Soviet Union - why? Russia, though it had nukes early in the "Cold War," was not a physical or economic threat to the US, right? Strange, though - though a fringe on both the far-left and far-right opposed our engagement with the Soviet Union, it was generally agreed to by both sides as essential to our own well-being.

As to the use of federal power, I agree that the federal and state governments had to become color-blind (which they have yet to do, by the way) to "level the playing field" and give opportunity to each American to thrive in our economy. Whether it was moral or not to extend the force of federal government into private enterprise is questionable. Still, most of the conservatives I know have rejected the arguments of those who were "ever so polite to Southern Racists," and haven't yet been forgiven of that, contrasted with the "Southern Racists" themselves who have been as long as they profess to a liberal political doctrine.

But the bottom line is that until we define the basics, we can't define anything that depends on them. Every discipline has its own axioms, and political discourse is no exception. Just proving that one side's people aren't as evil (whatever that means) as the other side's people says nothing about the validity of the values, principles or ideas of either side.

United WE Stand - Divided . . .

We are now involved, like it or not, in a great global conflict - that if we should lose, will make all of these petty auguments seem as childs-play. We ARE a great nation - but we will only remain a great nation if we can set aside all these petty diferences and pay full attention to the deadly conflict that threatens to destroy our very way of life. Look around the world and determine where is the greatest poverty, where are the worst human-rights abuses, where is the greatest desparity between the 'haves and the have-nots' - you'll find them in the very countries that are fomenting and supporting this WAR OF TERROR against US and the rest of the NON-SUBMITTED world. We may be liberal or conservative - we may be Christian or NOT - but if we are not united in the face of this conflict we are surely LOST and we will FALL.

Oliver
The problem is that it seems like a bunch of people are snoozing while the country that we say we are defending is going down the proverbial tubes.

We are ignoring the Constitution at nearly every turn. Passing unconstitutional legislation that limits our liberty, under the pretext that it is necessary to keep us safer. Our borders are being overrun by illegal aliens and most probably, some that want to do us harm. But yet, we sit idly by and aim all our focus on the Middle East. Our Congress has decided not to do their job and ceded the ability to declare war to the Executive branch, in addition to abdicating their job of overseeing trade by giving the President fast track authority to sign more horrible trade agreements like NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, OMAN and now we have one with Korea. Our manufacturing base is being shipped overseas and with them, a number of our good paying jobs. The trade imbalance is HORRIBLE and getting worse every day. The housing bubble is starting to burst and our dollar is on the verge of collapsing. Finally, our country is being merged with Canada and Mexico into a North American Union. It is not a conspiracy theory. It is fact. There are about 10 states that have bills in the works to denounce it; in addition to our own House of Representatives. If you do not know about this, I highly recommend you go find out. Here is a place to start. It is Phyllis Schlafly's web site:
http://www.eagleforum.org/topics/NAU/

So, YES, we should be united. It would be much, much easier. But, I for one, will not go along with the gaggle that refuses to face the truth and do something to rectify it.

"Were the ones whi lynched blacks Liberals?"

Most of them were faithful Democrats. What does this have to do with hating America?

"Were the police who murdered those poor Civil Rights workers Liberals?"

Again, they were Democrats. What does this have to do with hating America?

"Was Nixon with his henchmen and Watergate abuses a liberal?"

Nixon gave us OSHA, the EPA, and expanded the quota system known as Affirmative Action. He bragged that he and his economic advisers were "Keynesians" (Keynes was a liberal economist), and his Keynesian policies, which included price-wage freezes, caused the first gasoline shortage in our history. Nixon's participation in Watergate was a testament to his ego and lack of scruples, not his politics. The only thing "conservative" about Nixon was his dislike of communism, yet it was also Nixon who re-opened relations with communist China. So by many standards, yes, Nixon was very liberal. What does this have to do with hating America?

"Was Oliver North, of secret war fame, a Liberal?"

Oliver North is a decorated war veteran who has NEVER been found to have committed anything approaching the crimes and corruption of many elected officials (including Bill Clinton, John Murtha, Alcee Hastings, Pat Leahy, Hillary Clinton, and Ted Kennedy). North is a conservative who put his life on the line to serve his country. What does this have to do with hating America?

"Were the ones who manipulated the inteligence about WMD's in Iraq Liberals?"

You have furnished NO evidence the WMD intelligence was "manipulated" at all (Hint: rumors repeated endlessly at lib websites are not "evidence". They are SLANDER.) What does any of this have to do with hating America? Before you answer, remember that LBJ, who we know for a fact LIED to Congress to get the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution passed, was a liberal.

"Were the ones who humiliated General Powell, (a really honourable man), with their falsehoods Liberals?"

Nobody humiliated Colin Powell. However, some liberals at kook lib websites have denigrated Powell for his service in Vietnam. The implications I read were that he participated in alleged atrocities. You know. More liberal SLANDER of a patriotic American. These implications of course were written before it became publicly known that Powell resigned over the decision to invade Iraq, which instantly converted him from a "house n*gg*r" to a hero in the eyes of the left.

"Were the Enron directors Liberals?"

Were they conservatives? They donated more money to Ann Richards than they did to Bush. What does this have to with hating America?

"Were the thieves at Worldcom Liberals?"

Were they conservatives? How do you know? What does this have to do with hating America?

"Are the gun-merchants who sell weapons to kids Liberals?"

Provide us their names and we'll tell you (presuming you're not making this up out of thin air). What does this have to do with hating America? I can tell you that the ones who want to disarm the citizenry so we can be subjugated by our own governemnt are liberals.

"Is it the Liberals who force millions of Americans to go without health insurance?"

No one in America is forced to go without health insurance any more than they are forced to go without a lawyer if they are arrested. If they can't afford health care it is furnished by the government for free. It IS liberals who want to force millions of people to buy health insurance even though they don't want it or need it.

And what does it have to do with hating America even someone IS forced to go without health insurance? Where is "health insurance" listed as one of our inalienable rights?

"So just give it a break, guys and gals. You're throwing stones in glass houses!"

You can't even get your proverbs right. The warning is to not throw stones FROM glass houses.

Not one of your examples of unscrupulous behavior has anything to do with hating America.

Hating America has to do with teaching children that the founders of this country were slavers and killers (Note: The country was not founded by the KKK, only certain parts of the Democrat party were.)

It has to do with traitors like Jane Fonda encouraging the VC and RVN to keep fighting our soldiers.

It has to do with traitors like John Kerry lying to Congress about atrocities he never saw and probably never happened to further his own political career.

It has to do with Congressional Democrats giving verbal encouragement and even visiting communist dictators like Castro and Ortega.

It has to do with liberal loons like Cindy Sheehan and Danny Glvoer going to South America to kiss up to Hugo Chavez and call George Bush names.

It has to do with bimbos like the Dixie Chicks going to London and saying they are ashamed to be from the same state as the President.

It has to do Democrats in Congress today trying to sabotage the Iraq War primarily to deny a Republican President a foreign policy success without regard to whether it really is in America's best interest to lose another war.

Clowns like you are a big part of the problem.

To Peppermint
You ask why liberals can't distinguish conservatives' constructive criticism from pure hate. Gosh, I don't know. I'm having a lot of trouble that way myself. Maybe you can help. The other night I devoted a good while to reading your serialized online novella "The Diary of Juliet Smith" that you keep inviting everybody to link to. I thought it gave a pretty good view of your fantasy life. In it, you shoot named Democrats in the head, tear them limb from limb, and feed them to dogs. Tell me, Peppermint, because I'm really curious: is that what's called "constructive criticism" of Democrats?
