Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

As this is written, with a deadline looming, I have not heard Barack Obama's acceptance speech at Invesco Field and have not learned who is John McCain's choice for vice president.

You know more about these things than I do. So I will write about something I may know more about, and which has been the subject of some concern at the Democratic National Convention: the Democrats' charge that Republicans make illegitimate attacks on their candidates, attacks that imply that they are far out of the American mainstream. The two examples they cite are the "Willie Horton" ads against Michael Dukakis in 1988 and the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ads against John Kerry in 2004.

But both attacks were well within the bounds of fair political comment. Dukakis supported for 11 years a policy of granting weekend furloughs for prisoners sentenced to life without parole. Willie Horton, one of those furloughed, fled and committed another violent crime.

There's a reasonable argument for granting weekend furloughs to prisoners scheduled to be released in six months or so. Voters may not agree, but few will consider the policy outrageous. But there is no rational argument for letting loose a prisoner who is supposed to stay behind bars the rest of his life. Democrats now criticize Dukakis for not fighting back. But what argument could he have made?

As for Kerry, I listened respectfully to the majority of his boatmates who said that he acted heroically and to the majority of the larger squadron who said that he did not. They were talking about events that happened long ago, in sudden violence, and I found myself unable to say those on either side were lying.

But I also saw Kerry's campaign abandon his claim -- that he said on the Senate floor in 1986 was "seared, seared" in his memory -- that he was in Cambodia at Christmastime 1968. And I never heard him repudiate his 1971 Senate Foreign Relations testimony -- featured in the ads -- that our soldiers committed "crimes ... on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command."

I used to be a Democratic campaign consultant. In that capacity, I would have advised the Dukakis campaign to admit early on that the furlough policy was a mistake. I would have advised the Kerry campaign to go before a veterans' group early on and apologize for the Foreign Relations testimony. Voters understand that candidates sometimes make mistakes and that young men say outrageous things that in time they come to regret.

Which brings us to Barack Obama. He has three major vulnerabilities here as I see it. One is his 20-year relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Polls suggest he has sustained some damage on this, and it's not clear whether video clips of Wright saying "God damn America" will inflict more in the fall despite the candidate's repudiation of those comments.

Another problem is Obama's relationship with the unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist bomber William Ayers. In an April debate, Obama portrayed Ayers as a casual acquaintance. But Ayers was co-founder of the $49 million Chicago Annenberg Challenge education program and Obama its chairman of the board. The Obama campaign has sued to take off the air ads highlighting the Ayers relationship and tried to intimidate a radio station for hosting a conservative who is examining the Annenberg documents in the Richard J. Daley Library.

Finally, there is Obama's 2003 vote against a bill, "virtually identical" as the Obama campaign admits, to one that passed the U.S. Senate 98-0, banning the killing of fetuses who have survived abortions.

Liberals like Obama tend to go over the line between positions and associations that most voters find reasonable (though they may not agree) and those they find outrageous. They assume, usually correctly, that mainstream media will be reluctant to report on the latter, as has been the case in all those mentioned above. Conservatives take more care to separate themselves from the outrageous because they know mainstream media will pounce on them if they don't.

On Ayers, the Obama campaign has tried to suppress discussion. But it will likely fail. The emergence of new media and the First Amendment mean that is like stopping the Mississippi River from flowing to the sea. If I were advising Obama, I would tell him to confess error, as he arguably has on Wright, on both Ayers and the Born Alive Protection Act, lest they cause his campaign as much damage as the furlough ads caused Michael Dukakis and the Swift Boat ads caused John Kerry.

Paucity v. Plethora
Too bad Barry hasn't been around a bit longer. If he had been, he would have surely provided a treasure trove of gaffes and questionable acquaintances. Enough to skewer him and rightfully so. Not so with Kerry. He provided more than anyone could begin to hope for. One point that I'm sure someone addressed but I missed was his returning to the scene of some of his questionable skirmishes and reenacting, on film, his heroics. As a twenty-five veteran of the military I never heard of such chutzpah. It seems to me that his entire Vietnam experience was staged for future political purposes. We owe a debt of gratitude to the Swift Boaters who exposed him.

Apologies can be fatal
Obama can't apologize for his three vulnerabilities. To do so would tarnish his image beyond repair. It would be stepping down from a pedestal. The problem with pedestals is that first step ends up killing you. The same for Kerry and his condemnation of his fellow veterans.

I remember watching Kerry at those hearings. As soon as I heard the words from his mouth I was seized with disgust for him. It was obvious to me at the time that he was lying for the anti-war politicians on the committee but I didn't realize until later that it was all done to set up a political career.

He wanted to be the new JFK and rightly figured that pimping for the then ascendant Left would be his ticket to ride. But what caused him to rise also eventually caused his fall. Maybe there is such a thing as karma.

Willie Horton
Though the Republicans are always "smeared" for using the Willie Horton "attack"ads, I seem to recall that the charge was first raised in the Dem primaries. My memory is less sure on this but I believe it was Algore who raised it.

Burkanuck1 Communist Goals recorded 1958
The Communist goals posted by Retired Greek can be found in 'The Naked Communist' by Cleon Skousen. The book was written in 1958 and contains the 45 goals as well as many other communist writings. A portion of the goals recorded in 'The Naked Communist' can be found on the Skousen website:

http://www.skousen2000.com/political%20products/communist.h tm

The book is fantastic and I highly recommend you read it as well.

Do your homework before you assume posters are intentionally deceiving you.

Retired Geek, excellent work in informing the public!

re: Communist Goals for America 1963
C'mon retired geek, can you really expect anyone to believe that this stuff was written in 1963? Someone wrote this last week. You should be embarrassed to be posting this crap as though it is true. Most of what is said is the socialist party line but there is NO WAY they would have used the vocabulary I read here in 1963.

Communist Goals for America 1963

I have the 45 goals the Communists have for America, that was read into the Congressional Record in 1963. You will be amazed at how the Communists have succeeded by 2008 - 45 years later. I have listed five (5) examples
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Communist Goals (1963) Congressional Record--Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963
Current Communist Goals EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Thursday, January 10, 1963 .

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

speech
If you missed the Obama speech you didn't miss much, over 4 billion other people on this planet didn't hear it either. Obama thinks he is the chosen one, if he only understood what millions of people really think about him he probably wouldn't be so arrogant. His attitude precludes any possibility that he will unite Americans, of course he doesn't really care, it's just a campaign slogan to him anyway.

Democrats' Charge...
“The Democrats' charge that Republicans make illegitimate attacks on their candidates, attacks that imply that they are far out of the American mainstream”; Michael Dukakis in 1988 and John Kerry in 2004, and Obama in 2008. These were and are charges that everyone, even some Democrats know are true. This country is centrists and will swing only so far to the left or right, depending the candidate and issues being debated. Sure once a century a far left or right candidate will find himself President, but then what…Carter was a failure and still is. Dukakis was a bleeding-heart liberal. Kerry was a ticket-puncher. A wise majority of the people finally came to understand that and voted against it on Election Day.

“Obama’s 20-year relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright”; although Obama has disavowed the Rev. Wright, how can he disavow almost half of his life. “Obama's relationship with the unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist bomber William Ayers”. He needed Ayers and the Chicago Annenberg Challenge for getting his tickets-punched for the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine. “Obama's 2003 vote against a bill, "virtually identical" as the Obama campaign admits, to one that passed the U.S. Senate 98-0, banning the killing of fetuses who have survived abortions”. This was a misguided mistake by Obama and he uses the line that there was already a law protecting new born babies and did not think creating another one was needed.

I use to be a Democrat, but have not voted Democrat since JFK. After, President Kennedy the Democratic Party mortified itself into something I have been unable to define. However, if he were alive today JFK would be a Republican.

Reasons I will not vote osama hussien
Obama is the first Presidential candidate endorsed by Hamas.

He is the toast of the Islamic world. Obama’s church posted a Hamas manifesto.

- Obama has been endorsed by William Ayers (Weatherman Underground bomber, unrepentant domestic terrorist) (Member Communist Party USA, Early mentor to Obama)

Jeremiah Wright (Black Liberation militant, racist, and Pastor)

Tony Rezko (Corrupt Financier, ties to Terror Financing)

Louis Farrakhan (Nation of Islam Leader, racist, anti-American)

Hamas Terrorist Organization (Islamic Terrorist Organization)

Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades (Islamic Terror Irganization)

Raila Odinga (Fundamental Islamic Candidate, Kenya, Obama’s Cousin)

Daniel Ortega (Marxist Sandinista Leader.

Nicaragua Raul Castro (Hard-line Communist Leader, Communist Party Illinois (US Communist Political Party) Socialist Party USA (Marxist Socialist Political Party)

The New Black Panther Party (Black Militant Organization, anti-American and racist Mosques are preaching for Obama (muslims vote inshallah!)

For K.G. @ 00:24
It may be 0blahma's plan to lose the election so he can then shill (with support-shill from Al Sharpton, optional of Jesse Jackson) that the election was "stolen" from him (note that he represents the only party that actually did steal an election).

above my pay grade
Obama cannot answer when the unborn obtain rights because he supports letting infants who survive abortions die. So in Obama's mind rights are obtained sometimes AFTER the actual birth.

Dr Moon
I have encountered "liberation theology" in more than one place and have heard about it in others. It is not limited to black churches
or the USA.

It is not theology nor will it liberate. In fact, "enslavement demonology" is a much more appropriate description. One can argue whether the demons come from Lucifer or are self-created. I have a sneaking suspicion you can find examples of both.

It is an occult doctrine and, so far as I can tell, a parasite attaching itself to various legitimate religions.

Obama went to Trinity because that is where you go to get ballot boxes stuffed in his portion of Chicago. Some of his other undesirable associations are routine dirty/communist politics. His association with LT (ED????)
qualfies as Faustian.

I don't get it, Barone
For what reason are you giving B. Obama tips on how to solve his problems? Do you really want to help him?

KG
Should your scenario come to pass---and I sorta hope it will----it won't be the first time the
"Second Banana" has taken center stage?

Quick now, no fair googling, who was the Commanding Officer of the Rough Riders?

Bravo Dr Moon in TX

Dr Moon says

"Not only does Obama owe us answers but the Media is just as guilty. The media owe the American people the truth, if they can't do that then what good are they, they might as well be shut down. The media has abused their right to freedom of the press so they stand to lose that right."

Hard as that may seem, Dr Moon is absolutely correct.

Americans must put a stop to this abuse of the freedom of the press and media. We've seen many of those outlets commit virtual treason against our country. There ought be an avenue of redress against them.

Where is our doughty Congress, where it's conceivable to hold daily Senate hearings on athletes who abuse steroids? Wasting every Americans' tax money?

Let them conduct hearings on the Lamestream media's blatant bias and hypocrisy.

The Democrats as well as our Republican congressmen are failing in their responsibilities. They know perfectly well the media is corrupt; why can't somebody get action out of these fools? Let's see some, President McCain!

.

Obama cover-up
There will be no 'fessing up from Obama. I think that he believes whatever he's done or been involved in is righteous.
He came to Chicago with an empty mind, except for formal law education, and there, through exposure to the Trinity Church, a professor from U. of IL (Ayers) who, as a terrorist, claimed "not to have done enough," a radical Catholic priest (Pfleger), Nation of Islam (Farrakhan),Rezko, and his own agenda to succeed politically no matter what, he networked and connected. He owes a lot to bad people.
He'll never disclose how he came this far via the Chicago Democrat political machine, intertwined with Chicago labor unions.
The Democrat leaders now know what they've teamed-up with, they're too far along to retreat from it, and they've actually succeeded in selling the words "change" and "hope" without specificity. It's above their "pay grade" don't you know. They're hoping to ride their momentum and run the clock out before BHO's glaring deficiencies become obvious even to BHO's blinded followers. It is imperative to Democrat leadership to silence opposition for them to succeed in their mission.

New Hope and Real Change

No matter what the hype, Obama represents the same-old-same-old Leftie Losers that have plagued America since the '60s radicals started taking over campus buildings.

The fact that Obama has taken a sudden right turn in his rhetoric proves that he is no different than the former Governor "Moonbeam" Jerry Brown, who made an embarassing Leftie circus out of the California state capital. During the last election, Brown pretended to be a moderate and a normal person running for State Attorney General, until the election was over, and then started doing the nutty radical things that I had feared.

Barak says normal things NOW, but just wait until after the election, when he, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have their way and start to take away all our freedoms.

If you want a new hope and real change, you want Governor Palin in national office, where she will bring the kind of changes that she did to the State of Alaska.

If you want the government to lift its green hobnailed boots off the back of your neck, now is the time to vote Republican.

I Am Not a Vet...
..and have no personal military experience, but for me Kerry's story line ran like this: He started out a tall, dark, intelligent kid with political aspirations. He bought a video camera, enlisted, went to VN for 4 months, took pics of himself, got some minor wounds (self-inflicted) and left for home.

An articulate, compelling figure, he "testified" before Congress, made a name for himself by accusing the military--thus launching his future political career based on a series of lies.

The Swiftboats pulled back the curtain and revealed a phony.

IMHO Barack's story line similarly misrepresents reality. As the American Heartland comes to see the real Obama, they will reject him as a phony.

Sixty-days: A life-time in political campaigns.

Obama
The republicans must hold Obama's hand to the fire on all of these issues. Rev. Wright is one thing but being taught liberation theology for 20 years and being qualified for President is another. Liberation theology is a Marxist, racist and violent doctrine. Obama's church still teaches LT. LT teaches that Jesus is Black and that he will come down from Heaven and help remove the chains of white oppression. LT takes angry Black men and tells them its the rich white man's fault for all of their misfortunes. LT teaches them to hate Whites and to hate America and encouages Blacks to take what is rightfully theirs through violent revolution. Trintiy Church where Obama has attended for 20 years is no Christian Church as we know it, in fact its teachings resemble the Nation of Islam more than Christianity. Obama and his family being members for 20 years has a lot of explaining to do. Candidate Obama belonging to Trintiy Church is no different than being a life long member of the KKK and running for president. His membership in this Church should eliminate any prospect of his being president without question. Not only does Obama owe us answers but the Media is just as guilty. The media owe the American people the truth, if they can't do that then what good are they, they might as well be shut down. The media has abused their right to freedom of the press so they stand to lose that right.

Kerry and Cambodia
Mr Barone, if you still have doubts about Kerry and the Cambodian incident, let me remove them for you.
I was in Viet Nam and in the Army there. I, too, was giving Kerry the benefit of any doubts when the stories were coming out about him. When I got to the part about the soldiers celebrating Christmas by firing their guns in the air, that suddenly changed and I knew Kerry was a liar and that all that he had said was a lie too.
What changed my mind is the fact that the Vietnamese are not Christians and wouldn't celebrate Christmas by firing into the sky. Forget the fact that they were on a clandestine mission, that statement was the sort of mistake that a lifelong Christian would unthinkingly make. Even the Vietnamese troops where I was didn't fire into the sky to celebrate Christmas.
With that change in point of view I began re-reading Kerry's stories and none stood up. The lies in the Cambodian story are so plentiful that an accounting and an explanation of them takes longer than the original story did. If you are interested, write me and I'll put it on paper for you.

Obama's associations
Let's not forget his association with Joe Biden.

The Joe Biden who voted for the Iraq invasion. The Joe Biden who claims George Bush is anti-science, as if Joe is totally unaware of the medical advances being made with cell research not having to use embryonic cells. Had it not been for Bush scientist may have been stuck on only embrionic stem cell research and such advances would have been slowed.

B.O. has Joe Biden who voted against the star wars initiative, anti-science, anti-defense or anti-America first? They have hit a missile with a missile and are developing a flying laser.

Like wearing a bullseye
Try as he might, Obama can't remake his own history. The man's voting record and past associations make him such an easy target for the McCain camp it's laughable. There are, in fact, very legitimate reasons to question this man's patriotism, whether he likes it or not. Question it we will, Senator, and we will not accept so-called "nuanced" answers that inevitably begin with the phrase, "Listen, I . . . I . . . I . . ."

PS
If you find the pitbull image offensive, you should read some of the comments of the Obama supporters who called into the Chicago radio station.

Pitbulls and conservatives
Obama has handed us red meat and held on to it a bit too long. Now we have our teeth in it and his hand. Soon it will be his arm. We're not letting go.

Not better way too late than never
"If I were advising Obama, I would tell him to confess error, as he arguably has on Wright, on both Ayers and the Born Alive Protection Act..."

Mr. Barone, if Obama were to take your sound advice now, it would be too late, especially after the attack on the radio station.

Leaving aside his lack of judgment in the past concerning his associations, his present display of uncertainty has sunk his candidacy.

Nevertheless, I am grateful to him for having helped his party's elders to sideline the Clintons, and I feel his pain.

Great analysis, K.G.
It just shows once again how brilliant Mccain's pick of Sarah Palin was. I was driving to a doctor's appt listening to Rush when he played her speech live. I was just hooting like a mad woman, I was so happy. And the crowd in Ohio was electrified. I am so happy to hear jubilant Republicans again.
McCain/Palin '08

You go, girl!

HEY BARONE, listen to ...
..."acondo" and others : DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT "HELP" The Obamboozler with advice on how to improve his campaign.

What is in the water these days?! So many "conservative" writers playing with their own vanity and arrogance, is it perhaps over-confidence?

Dumb
What a dumb article..........I expected something at the end...... it was empty

Obama's past associations are fair game.
Hey, that is the way it is.

When Americans formulate an opinion of a candidate, certainly the candidate's history and past are most germane.

Obama's past is fair game.

As is McCain's.

I don't think there is anything in McCain's past that rises to the level of an Ayers or Wright, but if there were, I would not claim it was "off-limits", as some gopers doubtless would.

I suppose the Democrats can dredge up Keating Five, claiming that McCain's judgment was flawed..but I don't think it rises to the level of Obama regarding Ayers and Wright.

I agree with Barone that in the case of Kerry's 1971 testimony before Congress, he should have gone before a veterans group and publicly apologized for comments so disparaging of American troops in Vietnam.

Americans will respect a person who publicly acknowledges his mistakes.

K.G. - PALIN is the Real Change we need
She seems to be the one who can reverse the Stalinization of America.
She is indeed the "Can-do" candidate!

Keep advising, Mr Barone...
... but keep in mind as well the question of character. Dukakis, Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Obama. What do they all lack in common?

As Emerson put it: "No change of circumstances can repair a defect of character.”

Obama
yes Ayers should be a major problem...then another problem should be his sleazy purchase of a house he couldn't qualify for...a third should be analyzed ...he got government funding for the hospital his wife Michelle was employed at and then the hospital increased her salary from $116,000 to 316,000, a $200,000 increase which reeks of graft and corruption...

We report. You decide?
Barone's clearly taking up the Ayers/Obama connection. Wright's certainly an issue and a reason to not vote for Obama. This thing with Ayers had better be tangent. If not, if will be seen as "throwing spaghetti against the wall to see if if sticks". That's not a winning strategy when 80% think we're heading in the "wrong direction". You can't "reach" when it comes to Obama. Kurtz get's on TV and tells Greta that the Ayers thing is "worse than we thought". It had better be. Also, let's note that this whole justice dept thing is brought to you courtesy of McCain/Feingold.

Deadly Record
The God d. America video and Barack's audio, making the fervent case for allowing a baby die alone in a dirty linen closet in order to preserve Roe is enough to sink him.

The photo of Ayers stomping on the flag--in hostile, arrogant color is enough to sink him.

Hillary might easily have beat Mack. Even with Hill on the ticket, Barack might have won. Now he's left on his own, twisting in the wind.

I have no crystal ball, but I don't see how he makes it happen for the Dems.

And a few more ...
There are a few other “minor” points:

1.) He does not believe in the U. S. Constitution (how can he take the oath of office?)
2.) He is a marxists and does not believe in free enterprise or personal liberty
3.) He is an internationalists and does not believe in the sovereignty of the United States
4.) He see public service as power granted to him personally -- he thinks being president is being king.
5.) He thinks money is wealth and will print it at will

This brings us to McCain, who is not a marxists.

A whole new ballgame
Well, it's a moot point at this juncture...there is NOTHING B. Hussein Obama/Biden can do or say that will make them win in Nov. And all of their pundits on TV just keep diggin that grave....it's hillarious watching them do this to themselves and to listen to the daily kos freaks screech about a woman who believes in .....LIFE! Priceless.

Why
MIke why would you tell the most dangerous man in American Politics how to win. Obama is arguably going to setup a slush fund of American Taxpayer money to undermine democracy and capitalism. HE worked for ACORN. Why everyone assocaited with this org has not been arrested is beyond me. BHO has already funneled nearly $1M to this totally discredited org and now the housing bill funnels millions more to them. Heis associations and actions clearly indicate that he is in fact very anti American. And he is in league with Muslim extremists such as the ISNA and MAS. He should already be arrested for treason.

find me three words...
as harmful to a politician as "God Damn America". I knew the minute I heard Wright bellowing that curse that Obama was toast. He didn't say them himself (he wouldn't have even been in the Illinois Senate, if he had). But his mentor did. And no amount of spin will ever, ever, ever undo what's been done there. It's Obama's Willie Horton moment.
(Baron's a genius, by the way!)

IMHO It Will Be Too Little Too Late
I believe the dye is cast. Wright has and will hurt. Ayers will hurt. Born Alive will hurt.

They've been swirling around the blogs for months. A common joke is who will BO throw under the bus next?

It's too late for Barack to distance himself from any of these and other "vulnerabilities." They will stick like gorilla glue.

His attempt to silence Kurtz will be a solid nail in his coffin.

Even tho Obama's the top of the ticket, comparisons between him and Palin are inevitable, since they are the same age.

Obama will come up wanting on every point of comparison.

She's courageous; he's weak.
She's fought corrupt politicans; he's owned by them.
She's for life; he's for death.
She speaks her mind; he reads from the teleprompter.
She gives her son to America; he refuses to wear a flag pin.
She's part of America-loving heartland; he's from America-despising academia.
She's for self-reliance; he can only win by making nanny-state promises.
She's the new fresh can-do candidate. He seems jaded, corrupted and old-hat.
