Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

What makes this presidential election different from all other presidential elections? And different from what we expected when the year began?

First, neither party's presumptive nominee was chosen by massive support from primary voters, as John Kerry was in 2004, George W. Bush in 2000 or Bill Clinton in 1992.

That may not seem obvious in the case of John McCain, who effectively clinched the Republican nomination on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5. But look at the numbers: In January, McCain won New Hampshire 37 percent to 32 percent, South Carolina 33 to 30 percent and Florida 36 to 31 percent. On Super Tuesday, he won more than 50 percent only in states that were essentially uncontested: Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. He won Missouri by only 33 percent to 32 percent and California by only 42 percent to 35 percent, but won big delegate margins because of Republicans' winner-take-all rules.

McCain's strategy from July 2007 was to count on the other Republican candidates' strategies to fail. That was risky. But it worked. Republicans have accepted his victory because they're temperamentally inclined to fall in line and because it became obvious that he was the candidate with the best chance to win in the fall. But McCain was not really a consensus choice.

As for Barack Obama, at this writing he leads Hillary Clinton by 153 in "pledged delegates," those chosen in primaries and caucuses. But about 90 percent of this lead -- between 130 and 140 delegates -- came in caucuses, where the enthusiasm of his followers and the inexplicable failure of the Clinton campaign to mobilize hers gave him big victories.

We know from the nonbinding "beauty contest" primaries in Washington in February and in Nebraska on May 13 that Obama would have won much smaller margins in primaries in those states -- and much smaller delegate margins, thanks to the Democrats' proportional representation rules.

Democratic super-delegates, given votes in the 1980s to counterbalance the enthusiasm of left-wing caucus-goers, have instead moved toward ratifying the results of the caucuses and the paper-thin delegate edge Obama won in primary states. They may have good reasons for doing so -- fearing a Clinton loss in the general or a backlash from black voters if the first serious black candidate is rejected. But Obama, like McCain, is not the consensus choice of a large majority of Democratic primary voters.

This election is different from all others in another respect: These two presumptive nominees have no particular regional identity. John McCain was born in the Canal Zone, no longer a U.S. territory; grew up on military bases; moved to his wife's home state of Arizona and, running for Congress, noted accurately that he had lived in Hanoi longer than anywhere else.

Barack Obama grew up in Hawaii and lived for a time in Indonesia, went to school in Morningside Heights and Cambridge, and made his career in a city where he had never lived before, Chicago. He has been universally accepted by the Chicago political and fundraising establishment and won wide margins in Illinois. But neither he nor McCain has spent much of his life in ordinary Middle America.

Another way this election has been different from any other since 1960 is that neither money nor the thing it mostly buys -- television advertising -- has made much difference. Obama has been a prodigious fundraiser, raising unheard of sums over the Internet. But his money advantage didn't enable him to close the deal and beat Hillary Clinton in Ohio, Texas, Pennsylvania or Indiana.

Most of his delegate advantage, as noted, he owes to caucuses, in which money doesn't much matter. And if money mattered among Republicans, their nominee would have been Mitt Romney, who probably ran more TV ads than all his party rivals put together. Obama will massively outspend McCain from here on out, but that doesn't guarantee him victory.

Finally, this election has been different because the most tested candidates didn't run the best campaigns. John McCain, blooded in the 2000 race, depended on a strategy that left the initiative to others: It was always possible that one of his rivals would come up with a strategy that didn't fail.

Hillary Clinton, more than an interested observer of her husband's 1992 and 1996 campaigns, failed to organize the caucuses, ran out of money and made up stories of having been under sniper fire in Bosnia. Obama, the least experienced candidate, has clearly run the best campaign -- yet was unprepared for the exposure of his 20-year pastor and spiritual mentor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

This is a start on a list that may grow longer as the campaign goes on.

Unconventional? Its horrible.
I will not vote for any liberal democrat.

That takes the democrat out.

I feel betrayed by McCain, and I am deeply disgusted that we are going to be facing federal funding of destroying embryos because of him. We also have more and more gay marriage now because of him, and he also tried very hard to shut down the prolife political action movement in America.

McCain is out. McCain is part of the problem.

So that leaves minor parties. Lets see what we have.

Independant, or Green party is often just as liberal if not more than the liberal democrats.

Green party is out.

Libertarian party is suppose to be running Bob Barr and a lot of people are excited, but from what I have seen this guy is another let down.

Libertarian party is out.

Constitution party is running Chuck Baldwin and there are some things I argee with him on, however there are quite a bit of things I disagree on.

Constitution party is out too I guess.

Lets see... I guess that leaves the Prohibition party. Maybe someone will get their act together and run a good candidate.

I guess there is always write in too.

Open season primaries
a.k.a. Operation Chaos a la Rush radio vs. Dems trying to pin the tail on the elephant? Who chose who really?

I think "None of the Above," if it were a choice on the ballot come November, would win.

One consequence of this election cycle
is that one is left only with the dispiriting realization that it is finally about just how firmly entrenched the media's influence in dictating what the popular consensus is going to be.

You'll forgive me if I decide to not participate this time.

Barone can do better.
This article exudes the obvious.

A few may be unaware of why the super delegates were created in the Democrat party.

Barone is correct. Their creation was supposed to eliminate the compulsive leftward lurch of the party, which culminated in the nomination of George McGovern, and the ensuing disaster for the party in 1972. Super delegates were supposed to prevent that from ever happening again.

One could argue they have not been particularly effective in doing so.

I suppose the election will come down to choosing a GOP candidate saddled with the disastrous legacies of G.W. Bush(Iraq; skyrocketing fuel costs eroding American standard of living; overwhelming sense our nation is on the wrong track), OR a democrat whose inexcusable lack of judgment on white race-hater Wright, and condescending remarks about millions of Americans who believe in gun ownership and religion, have raised lots of questions in the minds of Americans.

Obama's legislative record is one of extreme liberalism. That will not go over well with lots of Americans.

But the vocal but dwindling numbers within the GOP base despise McCain. And that may dampen enthusiasm.

At this point, I give it to McCain, due to his ability to draw independents and disaffected republicans, BUT only if he has sense enough to reject being identified as a continuation of Bush.

Americans have had more than their fill of that.

Even Intrade got it wrong....
The only thing I have observed about this never-ending presidential race thus far is that next to nothing that was predicted has come to pass.

Even that great supposed on-line psychic Intrade didn't call it right. At the beginning of the race, the money was on Hillary for the Dems and Rudy and Thompson for the GOP.

Seven months is an eon in politics, and polls reflect little more than the feelings one had when they got out of bed that morning. Anyone who says today they know what will happen in seven months needs to add the line "if nothing changes" - which basically renders the prediction meaningless.

An Unconventional 2008 Election Season
Yes, this is an unusual election. McCain is highly qualified but couldn't inspire a fly to buzz around a room.

Hillary says she's quailified but would be under Bill's domination.

Obama is the least qualified. He can inspire a following but doesn't have a clue as to what he's getting into. He would be tested the the nth degree, especially when OPEC would tell him to take a hike and terrorists would tell him they're after his hide.

His worst factor is that he understands little of the common man.

Anyone ever hear of Newt Gingrich? I think McCain needs him as he running mate.

Dear Mr Barone:
"Republicans have accepted his victory because they're temperamentally inclined to fall in line"
I await, with great anticipation, to see if this "absolute" of yours rings true come November.

Dixiecrats
"blue dog" DEMS, or whatever you care to label them have been recruited by Rahm Emanuel to take US House seats held by the GOP in CONSERVATIVE districts because he is wise enough to recognize that the district isn't so much GOP as it is CONSERVATIVE. The Conservative wing of the old Demcratic Party ruled Texas during my entire youth (and the battles that went on within the Texas DEM Party, liberal vs conservative, could be more vicious than any DEM vs GOP match today).
I think it may be a little different today in that the DEM "old school" Conservative carried a strong national defense/foreign policy plank, but was willing to embrace FED deficit spending; those today seem to be a bit more fiscally responsible and less strong on defense/"big stick" foreign policy.
Still, you have to hand it to the DEMs; they embraced their liberal base, not alientating it like the GOP, while getting enough House Districts overall to put Liberals in the seats of US House power.
If you see many more CONSERVATIVE US House districts "flipping" in November, I'll lay good money the DEM top of the ticket won't be carrying those same districts.

Obama is a truth teller
I predict that another way this election year will be different is that Obama will tell the truth as no other candidate has ever done. He'll eschew the glittering generalities and positions calculated to appeal to the widest possible market in exchange for telling the American people the truth. I expect he'll explain the logic of positions and sound bites to the American people.

Take, for instance, the conservative meme that "fighting them over there means we aren't fighting them over here."

The logic of this is simple. If fighting in Iraq is keeping the American people safe it would be foolhardy and stupid to EVER end the war in Iraq. The logical thing to do if this statement is true is keep the war in Iraq going for 1000 YEARS if it is keeping Americans safe.

I predict Obama will explain the logical consequences of many conservative sophistries during the coming campaign.

Since you love McCain, Robert
I'm interested in your take on his neocon war policies. I will make the postulate that the American president's intentions toward Iran is to make Iran do what we want it to do. So, we would be undertaking the task of creating a change of behavior.

Changing people's behavior is difficult, and changing a nation's behavior is also difficult. We can use power or force, which could specifically be sanctions or physical force; or we could structure rewards that would change behavior through the recognition of self interest.

My problem with using force against Iran, even limited, targeted force, is the issue of what response would using force against Iran produce from Iran. I can't see any way that using force against Iran would produce a change of behavior that would make America better off.

The logic of the neocon's policy is that we would need to invade and occupy Iran forever, or until the memory fades in the Iranians that there was ever a time when they weren't an American province.

My Questions for GOP "Leaders"
What, precisely, do you people DO during the day?

The clock is ticking, election is approaching. Are you spending your days playing golf? Sleeping? Fishing? Drinking?

Why haven't we seen a group of you GOP "leaders" locking yourselves in a room somewhere, with the promise that you won't come out until you've created a reason for the American people to VOTE FOR YOU?

Precisely where is your exciting, clear, easy-for-all-to-understand Contract With America-like vision, printed neatly on paper for all to see? A simple list of actions you will take if elected? And to go with it, a commitment that the list will be repeated over and over until November so that everyone gets it?

What is WRONG with you people? What are you AFRAID of? That we won't LIKE it? Is that it? Have you completely given up?

The GOP, in its present form, deserves NOTHING. And until it grows some marbles, it will allow the Democrats to move America towards a Western European-model socialist democracy. And the GOP, with its INACTION, will be to blame.

So, "leaders", go back to bed.

Tell the Truth - Dream On
Obama wouldn't know the truth if it hit him in the face. Dixieliberal must have had a bad night to suggest that.

I will put my money on the Republicans any day, at least they uphold the Constitution and will appoint Judges to do the same. All Obama wants are judges who will uphold anything but the Constitution. Oh, he'll say "I never said that" that is the only theam he carries to the American public.

Not much to offer the voting public, unless you want to be an Obama slave for the next 4 years.

Be A Maverick! No Votes For McCain!

The Stupid Party

The RNC wants an amnesty candidate.

Don't vote for one.

Another amnesty will result in Democrat majorities for decades, or until they are supplanted by the La Raza Party, why doesn't the RNC know that? How stupid do you have to be to import voters for the opposition at the same time you alienate your own voters? Nominating any of the amnesty supporters is a losing proposition, we will not support them. If the GOP intends to surrender our sovereignty and abandon the rule of law, they will find in November 2008, that they still have their big money/cheap labor donors, but they do not have voters. A MAN IN SEARCH OF A PARTY
.....I was raised in Boston which is a bastion of
Liberalism ...growing up I never knew anyone who was
not a Democrat ...I was a registered Democrat until
Vietnam and LBJ ...

.....I became a Republican with Reagan because I saw a
sharp distinction between the Partys ...the Democrats
were going Socialist while the Republicans remained
Conservative ...

.....When GW was elected, Republicans had control of
both Houses but Bush immediately began blurring the
distinction between the Parties and many in the GOP
followed his lead ....the term RINO was coined to
describe them ...

.....Now, with the nomination of McCain, I have been
driven out of the GOP the same way LBJ drove me out of
the Democrat Party ...with both the DEMS and the GOP
becoming little more than a choice between Tweedle Dum
and Tweedle Dee ....I have become a man without a
Party ...

.....I am considering a Straight Libertarian vote this
fall as my only option ...the main fault critics find
with the Libertarian Platform is that it guarantees
too much freedom ...for instance, no laws against
victimless crimes ...I can live with that ...I would
rather have "too much" Liberty than not enough
.....COLOSSUS

.....The only criticism I can find of the Libertarian Party is that they guarantee "too much" Liberty ...ie: no punishment for victimless crimes ...smoking pot, gambling or hooking (prostitution) ...

convention requirements
i live in st paul so i know this. im not sure the countries media have broadcast it. one of the requirement that the RNC insisted upon when they decided to come to St Paul was that the closing hours for all liquor establioshments, including bars stay open for at least two extra hours at night. they will be thirsty.

I have just come from...
the NRCC Blog and from reading the comments there I am more convinced than ever that there will be a blood bath in the Republican Party come November. The responses there were in reaction to a post from Tom Cole, chairman of the NRCC.

Barone writes above: "Republicans have accepted his victory because they're temperamentally inclined to fall in line and because it became obvious that he was the candidate with the best chance to win in the fall. But McCain was not really a consensus choice."

Temperamentally inclined to fall in line, you have got to be kidding Mr. Barone. Obviously, you along with the rest of the GOP did not get the message in 2006. That was nothing compared to what this election is shaping up for. Conservatism has been relegated to the trash heap by the GOP with only a slight discernible difference in the two parties.

It is time for the American tax payers to come out of the woodwork in both parties and stand up and defend ourselves. We are being sold into slavery by the federal government to the federal government. The message is subtle and we have been in a slow boil for a long time.

If there are any taxpayers that feel paying 40%+ in income taxes, social security taxes and all the additional taxes disguised as fees, isn't enough then my question is when will it be enough?

Tax payers are bleeding and Washington DC is fiddling. The GOP thinks that they are losing because they aren't liberal enough. They have convinced too many of we the people that they have a big barrel of money and jobs and everything else anyone could want or need and all we need to do is ask and it shall be ours. All they want in return is our vote and our liberty!

Did you ever hear talk of Mayor Curley, whose mantle the Kennedy's inherited? My Dad was a Republican, the only one, besides my mother, in
both sides of the family. I can remember some, shall we say, spirited discussions regarding the
democrats and the Mayor. I grew up 45 miles south of Boston.

Mark Alexander had a good article regarding the
mindset of the so called leadership of the GOP,
on the Patriot. It's kind of like what Colorado
was calling for, although I don't think they are quite ready, they still don't have a clue.

I'm fed up with the lot of them. We've been independents most of our voting life, unfortunately first vote (forgive us folks, we were DUMB kids) was LBJ. Any other dem votes
rec'd from us was for conservatives (this was a time when Rockefellar Repubs ruled (as they are now), and one short time in the 80's as GOP members. Did you all hear that according to
as speech before a Rotary Club, Shuler said that
McCain called the republican house members and asked them not to sign the SAVE ACT discharge petition. Do you really believe he GOT the message last year?

I REMEMBER MAYOR CURLEY

.....TEA PARTY ...

.....He was re-elected while sitting in the Charles Street Jail on various corruption and bribery charges ...all the Dems thought it was a great joke ...the mantra was ..."He's a crook, but he's OUR crook ...

.....I don't think much has changed over the years ...when I left Mass I was still registered as a Democrat ...I would not be surprised to learn that I am still voting for Kennedy and Kerry .....COLOSSUS

I couldn't agree more. Noonan's last article in the Wall Street Journal commented on exactly the same thing. She called a veteran Republican, Clarke Reed, in Mississippi who was the originator of the Southern Republican Chairman's Association which was the beginning of the changeover in the South from Democrat to Republican. He's lived through Goldwater, Nixon, Ford, Reagan and Bush, and was at ground zero in building the conservative coalition.

He commented that the "American people just won't take a long war. Just – name me a war, even in a pro-military state like this. It's overall disappointment. It's national. No leadership, adrift. Things haven't worked." The future lies in rebuilding locally, not being "distracted" by Washington.

Is the Republican solid South over?

"Yeah. Oh yeah." He said, "I eat lunch every day at Buck's Cafe. Obama's picture is all over the wall."

"Members and pundits . . . fail to understand the deep seated antipathy toward the president, the war, gas prices, the economy, foreclosures," said Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia in a 20-page memo to House GOP leaders.

At the end of the day - the national GOP doesn't get it. The dems are running social conservatives and winning elections - the GOP is sending Cheney in to help, and his help is the last thing, as Reed pointed out, that local candidates need. The public is tired of DC politicians trying to influence local elections, and when the GOP tries to do so, the candidates poll numbers don't rise - they drop.

Cont'd
The base is clearly dispirited. Obama is now testing his core campaign theme, and that is that voting for McCain is voting for a third term for Bush. McCain is trying to distance himself from Bush, but if Obama makes this theme stick, voters will turn out, but they won't vote Republican.

As Noonan observed "The Democrats aren't the ones falling apart, the Republicans are. The Democrats can see daylight ahead. For all their fractious fighting, they're finally resolving their central drama. Hillary Clinton will leave, and Barack Obama will deliver a stirring acceptance speech. Then hand-to-hand in the general, where they see their guy triumphing. You see it when you talk to them: They're busy being born.

The Republicans? Busy dying. The brightest of them see no immediate light. They're frozen, not like a deer in the headlights but a deer in the darkness, his ears stiff at the sound. Crunch. Twig. Hunting party."

Federal Budget for FY2009....
is hovering at approximately $3Trillion. $1Trillion of that is non defense related discretionary spending and then you can pile the pork on top of that.

Does anyone really believe that government's appetite shows any signs of being satisfied? Does anyone really believe this is any way sustainable?

Government's intrusion into areas like education and health care is the problem. They have caused the problem and cannot be relied on to fix anything.

They have adopted the climate change hype and would rather save a polar bear, who is in no need of being saved than to save the American consumers any of their hard earned dollars at the gas pump.

Politicians have taken our brilliantly established representative republic and turned it into a socialist/democracy as if the founders were only making suggestions when they wrote the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The worst part is that we the people are falling for it hook, line and sinker.

CAN THERE BE TOO MUCH LIBERTY?

.....FARMER'S WIFE ...

.....Yes the Republican Party is dying out of self induced wounds ...but take heart ...maybe the time has come to challenge the TWO PARTY SYSTEM ...there is a growing challenger in the wings ...if you can no longer, with good conscience, vote for the Republican candidate then consider voting Libertarian ...

.....If you go to the LP homepage you will find that their platform is very similiar to the one that the Republicans have abandoned ...they can only be criticized for promising "too Much" Liberty ...maybe their time is not right now but we can get the ball rolling and knock off the Republicans the way they knocked off the Whigs .....COLOSSUS

Farmers Wife
Not a chance - at least not right now. If you add the rebate stimulation program costing about $150 B into that budget, and the supplemental budget for the war which is projected to run about $70 B, the actual expenditure will be closer to $3.2 trillion. Obama wants a larger military, some form of cap and trade system for energy, and increased health care spending. McCain wants a larger military, his own form of cap and trade for energy, and is proposing a $2500 individual and $5000 family tax credit for health insurance. The defict for this year, when the supplemental bill and the rebate are thrown in, will exceed $500 B, which is almost 20% of the total. And then, the $50 trillion in unfunded entitlements are ramping up as the 75 million boomers have started to retire. No amount of tax cuts nor tax hikes will pay for this - not even close. You know its insanity, and I know its insanity. But, just as Americans sat around in denial as the Nazi's conquered Europe and waited until Japan hit Pearl, we have the same denial going on. The parties know talking about spending is popular, and for the GOP, talking about tax cuts is popular. But paying for it isn't, so they keep using deficits, or trot out soak the rich tax hikes. We're in a tail spin. And in denial. The next president may slide by for another 4, maybe 6 years. Then the government will start hitting this wall. Personally, I've thrown up my hands on this election. All we can do is hit the wall, then get down to the serious business which everyone is so unserious about right now.

It's gonna get worse FW
""They have adopted the climate change hype and would rather save a polar bear, who is in no need of being saved than to save the American consumers any of their hard earned dollars at the gas pump.""

The high cost at the pump is actually the least of our worries. Think of the high cost of diesel. Trucking companies are barely breaking even, and some are already going under because they can't pay for fuel.

EVERYTHING we buy is hauled by truck!
Wait till the cost of Everytyhng spirals ever higher, until the dems start screaming for wage and price controls. (Remember those during the nixon admin?)

We have ways to curb this headlong rush, but the dems are the ones standing in the way of progress, while calling themselves Progressives.

Build Nuke plants, Build Lots of them. France gets 70-80% of their electricity from Nuke plants, we get less than 20% and haven't built a new plant since 3 mile island.

Coal to oil/Coal to Gas This isn't science fiction this is proven technology. In WW2 the germans fueled almost half their war effort on oil created from coal. We have more coal in america than saudi arabia has oil.

The only thing stopping us are environmentalist wackos who want all fossil fuel use stopped. period.

Yes, solar, geothermal, and all the feel good stuff has a place and may be useful in the future, but we need energy NOW.

Add to this the fact that they enviro freaks have the polar bears to hold over our heads, I hope you all have room to stable a horse, you're gonna need it.

Where the GOP is headed-Casey.
Will John McCain's road to 'moderation' help Republicans overall this fall? To answer that, I'll just relay something that Fox News' Carl Cameron said in his report from 5/13/08 on Brit Hume's show about McCain's global warming tour. Cameron quoted a McCain aide on the candidate's plan to distance himself from the GOP and President Bush by Election Day:

...By the time the November elections come around, it'll be hard to tell that they were even in the same party.

Seeing as this statement was made in the context of the Senator's climate change tour, it's safe to assume that McCain isn't talking about moving the image of the party to the right. How that will serve to help other Republicans this fall escapes me, unless McCain's real plan is to remake the party in the image of himself and former politicians like former Rhode Island Senator Lincoln Chafee and former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman.

McCain will be all over the map this fall - conservative on some important issues like the war and judges, but liberal on other issues such as the global warming, immigration, and perhaps even taxes. The past few years has shown that such vacillation - such an inability to enunciate a clear set of conservative governing principles across the policy spectrum - might work for an individual GOP candidate here and there, but represents disaster for the overall political party.

John McCain might win this crucially important Presidential election, since the alternative would be disastrous for the United States and the world. But the message so far from McCain to down-ballot Republicans this fall is clear: "Don't expect any help from me, unless you are prepared to repudiate much of your conservative beliefs".

That's not the way for the GOP to rebuild the party

I agree Redlac
This has been an "interesting" race so far.

The democrats are doing everything they can to hand the white house to a republican, and who do we have? a republican who's trying desperately to become a democrat!

I watch the democrat sideshow in action, and think, "Compared to them, Mccain aint so bad", then what does he do? Jumps on the gore-bull warming bandwagon, and kisses up to la raza.

That sound you hear is Reagan spinning in his grave.

I hear ya JP...
Farmers cannot farm without diesel. The high cost of diesel translates into higher prices for everything we want and need because everything we buy has to be transported by diesel burning semis. I know out here in farming country, the cost of seed has doubled since last year and fertilizer costs have almost quadrupled.

The trucking industry and the ag industry is literally bleeding money. What that equates to is ever higher food prices as well as all other goods. Who do you think will be blamed? I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count.

Government wants us to reduce our fuel consumption. Does that mean they want truckers to limit how many loads they haul bringing people the goods they demand? Does that mean they want farmer's to only plant every ten rows in their fields? Does this mean that airlines will be expected to reduce their flights? Does that mean they only want people to go to work every other day? I don't know any people who are driving for recreational reasons these days.

Has green czar Al Gore changed his wasteful ways? Oh yeah, he doesn't have to because he buys carbon credits.

baseballdoc Give me Liberty
for Baseballdoc and all the others who have screeched about the Rebublicans losing their way--yes, there are many changes that we need to do, but let's get real here.
A third party vote RIGHT NOW is not going to do anything but put a communist/socialist/you name it in the WH.

What in the world are you folks thinking????? Deal with the here and now. We can't let Osama Obama OR Hillary be elected in the fall.

Rebuilding the GOP
To reiterate my previous post--

Now is not the time to start rebuilding the GOP--let's wait until AFTER THE ELECTION. We will have 4 years to work on it.

Be sensible my friends!

JoeGirl/JP and Farmer
Maybe you can figure out which party has the most socialists, but I'm having more trouble with that one every day. It was the Republicans that exploded the size of government and expanded it into every field not yet occupied, and, when I listen to McCain and his energy/global warming/health care tax credit/etc. talk, he sounds just like the other guy. You need to sit down and think about this. Not even the Democrats ever tried what the GOP did in such a short period. $1.88 trillion to $3.2 trillion in 8 years. That's an almost 80% increase. In 8 years. So tell me. Who are the real socialists these days?

As far as diesel - amen. The trucking industry is a client of mine, and I grew up on a farm - so, needless to say, I can grasp this nonsense. They are hurting - and there is no reliief in site. The only realistic short term solution is to get real about strengthening the dollar. (Granted - the Fed would have to kick interest rates back up to 5% or so - and the government would have to cut those deficits by more than 1/2, and keep them there - but it would have an early and immediate impact) If we got it back to par with the Euro, oil would only be costing $80 - $85 a barrel, not the $124 quoted yesterday. Of course, since none of the genius's currently running want to explain to the people that Washington's policies are a big part of the problem - it isn't going to happen. After all - they'd have to tell the truth - and those forked tongques would choke them to death before they could do that.

Sorry joegirl,
But Hillary is looking better and better everytime Mccain opens his mouth. JackPine said it best. I came to terms with McCain, and then he opens his mouth and says something further left than the last sentence. I find myself wondering if Mccain is TRYING to p$ss me off on purpose, because it sure feels that way.

Let's see, he says he got the message on illegals, then gives a speech on embracing illegals. Who's message did he get, La Raza's?

Next thing I know he joins Al Gore and goes green. But not until he tells us Gitmo must close and water boarding is out. All of this makes it rather hard to overlook his attack on the 1st amendment.

Support McCain? Sorry, 'my friends' but no can do.

Redlac, you are right...
truth is only relative to who is talking. Finding the real truth in relation to anything that is going on in government is less likely than the earth reversing it's orbit.

Today we have the left liberal party and the wrong liberal party. I'll let joegirl figure out which one is which.

Anyone who believes that the GOP will be any more willing to reclaim conservative principles should McCain win is living in a dream world. That is why we are where we are now.

A long time ago we were put in a nice cool pot of water, never noticing that it was sitting on a burner with a low flame. The flame has gradually been turned up more and more and we are just about cooked.

I feel joegirls pain, that is where I was back in 2000. I just knew if we got the chance to have a Republican President and a Republican Congress that they would seize the day and prove once and for all to America that liberty through conservatism was much better than slavery through socialism.

We gave the GOP carte Blanche and they blew it big time! So no more for me. I am supporting only proven conservatives down ticket and I will be voting, just not for McCain.

I do not think McCain can beat Obama even if we were willing to hold our noses but he evidently thinks he can and do it without us. So be it, he set the stage and I didn't get a part in the play!

Answer
"What makes this presidential election different from all other presidential elections?"
A two-year long run-up, unending media chatter, countless uninformative debates, gender & racial politics, obscene expenditures, a couple very unattractive candidates, and a foregone conclusion.

Farmer's Wife
So many businesspeople I know have come to precisely the same conclusions. We convinced ourselves that the GOP would act on the principals we believed them to have. Now, we are very much adrift as a nation. I certainly understand the panic some feel about Obama - and, I certainly understand how painful it is for JoeGirl to leave the perceptions we had of the GOP in the past behind, and accept what they are today. After all - when hope is all you have - its a very difficult thing to let it go. Then, after all, there is no hope. At least for the near future.

Conservatism isn't dead - that's what we must hold onto. And, the gathering storm concerning trade and budget deficits, the weak dollar, globalization and the loss of manufacturing, unrestrained and illegal immigration, and the rising costs of entitlements, will drive this country to a different reality than it is currently willing to accept. It will be then that many, having no option except to look into the abyss, will find that the promises of today are stale indeed. We can't pay for it.

So, we will simply have to let them have those promises. They will be as disappointed in the Democrats, as they are now with the Republicans. But the conservatives will still be there. We can do great damage - as England proved. Yet, as Thatcher proved, some of it, at least, can be undone. But not until the public is ready for it. And right now, they're not.

Obama only has to swing 2 states to win
If he keeps the blue states blue and swings Iowa and Missouri he wins. He could also swing Ohio, Florida, and any number of southern states with large black populations. This could be a close election if McCain plays it perfectly but it's looking like a landslide for Obama.

He's raised more money, has more volunteers and has more donors than any candidate in history. He's currently implementing a 50 state voter drive which again is something that no candidate has ever done before.

Given that Democratic voter turnout in some primaries has actually been higher than in the last general election, all signs are pointing to bad things to come for the Republicans.

There are other issues out there besides the economy and immigration--i.e. the crazy muslims who are committed to destroying us. Osama Obama (more than Hillary) would wave the white flag. In fact, with all of the liberal multicultural and politically correct BS, we are already being destroyed from within.

joegirl you're just flat out wrong
Obama has said that the pace of the pullout of troops will be determined by the generals on the ground in Iraq. Far from surrendering, he has said that he will go attack the terrorists who started this in Afghanistan and has even said he'd bomb Pakistan. Doesn't sound like surrender to me. It sounds like he's gonna finish the job that Bush couldn't.

I find it hard to believe that with Republicans in control of the White House, Supreme Court, and Congress for 6 of the last 7 years that anything going on is the result of liberal multicultural anything.

We are reaping what the Republicans have sown. The current state of the world is all due to failed Republican policies.

I challenge you to provide evidence to the contrary.

joegirl as I said...
I feel your pain. The enemy within is the spread of Socialism and the idea therefrom that we cannot do anything but be nice to Islam, the religion of peace.

Yes, Islamic terrorists worry me. Ask yourself why we are not doing the things necessary to keep us safe here? Then look at our government. I used to blame only Dems but Reps have been at the very least complacent and at worst, read McCain, jumping in with socialist liberals.

Do you really think he isn't going to escalate that habit if elected? I don't.

Joegirl
Why worry about terrorists when we do nothing about our border? So McCain thinks welcoming 12+ million illegals (not all are mexican, some come from terror sponsoring countries too) is good for national security? If we paid attention to our borders the suicide pilots would not have likely been in the U.S.

Prophecy
My dear Americans.
Too Bad you have not been enlightened as to why we have the high fuel prices and why we really are in Iraq. You may find the unadulterated truth to both questions in Lindsey Williams' book, 'THE ENERGY NON-CRISIS"
The Republicans and Democrats have kept a well hidden secret from you for years. Rev. Williams was Chaplain of the Alaska Pipe from the time it was in the building to the early 80's.
It would take too much time in this space to reveal all, but you too, can know the truth )(if you can handle it)
The oil cartel has an agenda for mideast oil in Iran and Iraq. THEY WANT CONTROL OF IT AND THEY DON'T HAVE IT.And unbeknowingly to you, part of the price you are paying at the pump is a tax that goes to the world
Bank to recoup their losses, having to forgive the third world countries who couldn't repay the loans.
Don't believe it? Well, you can find this out by Typing in your Tool Bar "Lindsey William and the Energy Non_crisis and get the book or you may be lucky enough to find his lectures on U-tube. That's where I got it.
This election no matter which you turn, has it's roots controlled by the Oil Cartel and the IMF and world Bank.
I'm not voting for any of the One Worlders, I'm voting for the Constitution Party Candidate. Chuck Baldwin. Sorry Demos and Repubs.

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS DYING

.....JOEGIRL ...

.....I feel your pain ...I held my nose and voted for Bush a second time hoping for the best ...McCain is Bush on steroids ...Bush put the nails in the coffin ...McCain will read the eulogy ...The Republican Party cannot be salvaged in its present form ...it is like a Stately old Mansion that is riddled with termites and dry rot ...it needs to be burned to the ground and rebuilt over the ashes like a phoenix ...

.....Farmers Wife & Redlac ...no Conservatism is not dead ...but Conservatives no longer have a voice or a home ...I went to the LP website and their platfom reads like the GOP under Reagan ....they stand for the rights of the individual and the Constitution ...perhaps they can morph into the "New Republican Party" ...Ron Paul ran as a Republican but in his heart he is still a Libertarian ...we have a choice to make ...do we want to follow the Constitution or not? .....COLOSSUS

WE DO NOT HAVE TWO PARTIES ANYMORE

.....We have a SOCIALIST PARTY (DEMOCRAT) and a DEMOCRAT LITE PARTY (GOP) ...

.....We need a second Party to go up against the Democrats ...

.....I recommend that all Conservatives that have been betrayed by the GOP to google LIBERTARIAN PARTY PLATFORM and read it (it will take 20 to 30 minutes depending on reading speed) red line any points that you disagree with and bring these points up on TH so that they can be debated ...

.....Conservative don't have to give up just because the GOP is self destructing ...there are alternatives out there if we look for them .....COLOSSUS

It really is Unconventional
These three recent special elections should be a great deal more than merely disturbing. They portend absolute disaster in November. What is really strange is the fact that Congress is getting a 73% disapproval rating, Congress has been in the hands of the Democrats since 2006.
With that kind of dissapproval how can they be winning elections in solid GOP districts?
My party (GOP) needs to get off its backside and start getting a program for american success in front of the american people.
And, as so eloquently put by Rush Limbaugh, "Stop letting the Democrats determine our agenda."

PC will be the end of us all
LEE

Jackpine afternoon post
Your solutions to our current gas crisis are right on! I listen to this one and that one on the television and NOT ONE even makes mention of the fact that we HAVE THE ANSWER right here in America!!! How can we break our dependence on foreign oil if we don't get busy drilling in our own backyard? And NUCLEAR is the way to go regardless of what the greenies say! I am SO SICK of global warming/polar bears etc etc dictating what anyone with an ounce of common sense knows...we must become self-sufficient! That USED to be the American Way...it would be nice if we could find it once again - BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!

Leewolf - I agree "PC WILL BE THE END OF US ALL!

If Senator McCain speaks
at La Raza in July - and doesn't leave a strong message about ILLEGALS having to leave our country (right!) I'm afraid he is going to have a rude awakening at the convention in September. Do you suppose he really couldn't understand what we did last fall??? We had our own little Tea Party via the telephone to every lawmaker in Washington!

Law-abiding conservatives are sick and tired of being ignored!!! I do so wish he would get a clue! And - I wish he would stop using the phrase "my friends" - try fellow Americans instead. Friend is NOT applicable to those listening to his speeches!

Rondak, I did find the...
video of Lindsey Williams, author of The Energy Non-Crisis on U Tube. I am very interested and want to learn more. I intend to buy his book and have posted a link on my blog to U Tube Video of the 8 part presentation given by Mr. Williams about the story he tells in his book.

If what he says is true then this coming election is the lease of our problems.

Karufe 3:57 p.m.
seems we are both a bit dissatisfied on the direction Senator McCain is taking. My above post was written before reading yours...and yet we both seem to have drawn the same conclusions with regard to his positions and manner of speech. Like minds...at least I feel a tad less "alone"

mrbmrb
The republican party is out because of McCain. That is for the presidential candidate.

For congress it will depend on that candidate.

If they are good social conservatives then I would probably vote for them.

However if the democrats did a smart thing and ran a candidate that was more social conservative than Lamar Alexander then this candidate has a good chance of getting my vote as long as there isn't anything critically wrong with him. I would be eager to do this to punish Alexander for betraying us on the federal spending for destroying embroys. You see senators and congressmen like him did that supposing that though we may be angry we would have no choice but to vote for him. And just as he was happy to betray us, I would be happy to fire him if I had a more social conservative choice.

If republicans were smart they would do what has been very obvious that they should do. That is to back away from the James Madison type issues of the party, and of the business wing and allow it time to heal before it damages itself more than it already has. They should have backed off these business issues and emphasized the social conservative issues as the most critically important.

This is what they should have done and what they still should do.

Hillary: What’s Right?

Hillary is also the one that voted for the Iraq war without reading the NIE report! Does she think anyone will buy this?

LOL! Bob Barr all the way!

McCain will have trouble
Bob Barr will win the conservative vote, setting the stage for the future conservatism.

In October, I'll enjoy asking neocons if they're voting for McCain. If they answer affirmatively, I'll ask why they're voting for him when he can't win. :-)

Ha! Chuckles must have looked up

"Wadcutter."

But, back to business!

Why can't you answer the question, Chuckles??

Are you...

or

2. Violating the UCMJ?

Last hint: Before you use ammo terms, please request permission from the NRA, so you won't sound quite so stupid.

Dear Robert. Darn it, I feel bad now.

3 Reasons For McCain
Life, Spending, Terror. That's enough to make me hold my nose And vote McCain. Consider not voting as a vote for Obama.

McCain, Obama, and War on Terror
In 1937, Chamberlain and his supporters were in charge and popular. His return from Munich was hailed as a diplomatic triumph. Churchill was a powerless back bencher, an ignored voice. Only disaster woke up and united the Brits. Obama could well be our Chamberlain. Sometimes one has to get a snootful of brine before one realizes one is drowning. McCain is a leaking inner tube which will fail, even as it carries us into deeper water.

There are many professionals on this site who could instruct you on the finer arts of weaponry. I know a few of them by reputation. Trust me. They will NOT lead you astray, if YOU cooperate, and remain humble.

During my stint in the U.S.Navy, 1960-1966, I participated in the crew effort that allowed our ship to win the coveted, Fleet-Wide, "W" emblem for Weapons Excellence. A Destroyer, finished in 1946, mothballed, and brought back into service for Korea, took a few hits, but gave back many times that! Go TEAM!

We also spent many weeks patrolling the Matsu~Quemoy area, and many more weeks on 'Life Guard Patrol', following one of several Aircraft carriers while they performed Night-Time landings.

You do not know life until you steam at 32 Knots (About 40 MPH), in rough seas, aboard a ship that is 400 feet long, 32 feet wide, and has a crew of Men and Officers of 400. Can you think crowded? Can you think bumpy?

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, we received orders to 'Get Under Way', with no 48 hour warning. We had 4 hours. Anyone not on board was left behind.

Isn't this exciting? Wobbie, if you want thrills, chills, and just raw derring-do, join our Excellent Military.

They will give you three square meals, most days, and more, when you are on 'Port-and-starboard' (six hours on duty followed by six hours off duty...). One caveat: When you are at "General Quarters" you are there for the duration. Actually, this is a good thing. Most of our enemies have learned that when we go to General Quarters, they WILL WIND UP BEING TOAST!

Read your history.

We will wait. OK? Are you finished? No, sorry, wikki-dummi does NOT QUALIFY!

Say, are you up to this, or would you rather just carp about things you know nothing about?

I was a Firecontrol Technician, 2nd Class (E-5). I was PRIVILEGED to pull the trigger on our twin 5 Inch-38 Mounts. We did a lot of shore-bombardment, and we were always told that it was Drills. Yes, I wondered about that later, but we were always told "Well Done"! So, I am satisfied.

We were also on 'actual' patrol in the Gulf of Tonkin 14 days prior to the "Famed Incident".

I myself, am an accomplished, self taught, firearms aficionado. No, I never won any contests, but I have been putting food on the table since the late 1940's.

I can put 6 shots of full power 44 Magnum, 240 grain bullets into a one inch circle, double action at seven yards, in 5 seconds. Great? No way, others make me look childish by comparison.

I, and my family, ate many meals provided by nature's bounty, and have NEVER TAKEN A PENNY OF WELFARE. My friend, can you say the same?

We have enjoyed Rabbit, Squirrel, Quail, Pheasant, Dove, Deer, Groundhog, Snapping Turtle, Frogs, various fish, wild mushrooms (small shot only for these :), wild berries-strawberries-blackberries-, natural asparagus, Paw-Paws, Persimmons, et. al.

Yes wobbie, under caring tutelage, you too, could begin enjoying life.

Part IV

Sorry, I inadvertantly used Roman Numerals.

Dear robbie, I am sure you do not know this, but Roman numerals do follow a pattern.

I = 1
II = 2
III =3
IV = 4
V = 5
VI = 6
VII = 7
VIII =8
IX=9 (say, did you notice that at 4, and 9, the pattern changed? good, I am glad you noticed.)
X = 10
XI = 11
(this pattern continues through # 48 as XXXXVIII)
Number 49 becomes XLIX

While you say "WTH" (What The Heck), I will further explain...
I = 1
V = 5
X = 10
L = 50
C = 100
D = 500
M = 1000
A smaller number, in front of a larger number, means that number is decreased by the amount of the smaller number.
Clear?
Darn it! Must I give you an example of every number from One to One Million?

Well, work on it. Next week we will start ammo reloading techniques. You will like this as they go "BANG"

Gosh darn. Robert, you do be ma fren...
Stick with me pal.

We will get you up to speed in just a few decades.

Ever hear of Bullseye Powder? Unique Powder? Blue Dot? 2400?
22 grains of 2400 mean anything to you?
Can you say OUCH, THAT HURTS, Elmer?

Ever heard of Elmer Keith?

Do you have any idea what a 54 pound HE shell at 2800 FPS will do at 18,000 yards? OBTW, these things are accurate. At Nine miles, they hit within 18 yards. Ouch.

I did not think so.

Obi Wan Kenobi says, "Come over to the not-quite-so-dark-side" Sorry PC has taken over everywhere.

Mi compadre, no mas stupido.

There is a simple explanation
This is what happens when government sells out to monied corporate globalists (and I'm a stockbroker) and treats voters with contempt. Both parties are in the tank and only go through the motions of "running" for office because that is the system. There IS a way to take it down, VOTE 3RD PARTY!!! When faced with a one-party system, vote against it!

Think of it this way. We have Satan locked in the closed and he will use every trick to get you to open the door. Don't do it! That pathetic sobbing you hear is NOT your mother. Ignore it. Come November, you will vote 3rd party and dawn will break ending this long horrible night. Satan will be gone and life wil go on. Don't make it so hard. Just vote 3rd party and have faith in our system.

Nix on the Libertarians
As disappointed and disaffected as I am with the GOP right now, there is absolutely NO WAY I would EVER vote Libertarian, any more than I would ever vote Democreep.

In the first place, even if the Libertarians succeeded in getting their Presidential candidate elected (not that far-fetched a scenario, given the angst both the Republicans and the Democreeps seem to have with their Presidential candidates), there would be no Libertarians in Congress; certainly not enough to give a Libertarian President any meaningful support. And neither the Republicans nor the Democreeps in Congress would ever support a Libertarian President, no matter how good his ideas were. After all, party pride dies hard.

Read your US Constitution. The President is not a king, a god or a dictator. Without adequate Congressional support, a President can do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, no matter how popular he is, and no matter how good his ideas or his intentions may be.

As far as ideas go, the Libertarians are nothing more than a weird amalgamation of the Republicans' best ideas on fiscal policy (low taxes, minimal government regulation) and the Democreeps' worst ideas on social policy (unrestricted abortion on demand, open borders and legalized narcotics and prostitution).

The jury is still out on the Libertarians with respect to foreign and defense policy; if it isn't, it should be. Their support for the fight against international Islamofascist terrorism is tepid at best and nonexistent at worst. (See also: Wrong Paul.)

That's not a mix I can accept. If you can, bully for you!

COLUMNISTS
I CAN'T READ YOUR WEBSITE ANYMORE. THE PRINT IS TOO SMALL FOR ALL YOUR COLUMNISTS.

Nix on the Libertarians, Part II
The Libertarians' only potential "ace in the hole" in this election may be their position on energy policy.

If their position on energy policy mirrors that of the Republicans (expanded oil and natural gas exploration and extraction on our own continent, construction of badly needed new refineries and power plants, expansion of nuclear power), then they might give voters an actual reason to vote for them beyond the mere "protest vote" dimension.

But that still wouldn't be enough to make me vote Libertarian. Their extreme left-wing social policy positions are just too odious.

I'm all for liberty, but "liberty" is NOT the same thing as "absolute freedom".

As Moses said when he came down from Mount Sinai with the Ten Commandments and saw the Israelites worshiping the golden calf, "There can be no freedom without the law."

pardon me paadena phil:
Having "faith" in a 3rd party is like quitting your job and having faith in a Lotto ticket.

The dumbest thing in any election is voting for a 3rd party candidate; most of all one who has nothing particular to offer the country. Might as well not even worry about the outcome. You'll just be the loser, that' s all.

Barone's a Misguided GOP Egghead
Barone: "Republicans have accepted his victory because they're temperamentally inclined to fall in line and because it became obvious that he was the candidate with the best chance to win in the fall. But McCain was not really a consensus choice."

No, Michael, the GOP/RNC establishment accepted this because they stupidly created a winner-take-all primary system that allowed the People's Will to be subverted. They also have steadfastly opposed a National Primary that would have guaranteed none of this nonsense could have possibly ever happened. What should be OUR proper response to this? 3rd party. Vote for the Constitution Party. Chuck Baldwin, the Constitution Party's Presidential candidate, will SLAM THE BORDER SHUT and GET THE UN OUT OF THE US AND THE US OUT OF THE UN. No more bull. He will end NAFTA and CAFTA. He will end the North American Union, the SPP, and the Texas Superhighway. He will bodyslam the Corporate American criminals in the CFR who seek to destroy American Sovereignty for the Almighty Dollar. He will end Abortion immediately by refusing to federally fund abortion clinics. He will eliminate the Departments of Education and Energy and the IRS in one fell swoop. There will be NO INCOME TAX WHATSOEVER. He will reestablish American control over the strategic Panama Canal. He will end American alliances such as NATO. He will drill in ANWAR and anywhere there is oil to be drilled in the US WITHOUT REGARDS to GREENIE Liberal pond scum. American employers who employ illegals will be JAILED with stiff sentences if you elect this guy. HE'S A REAL CONSERVATIVE. He will repeal the 16th Amendment and seek to outlaw McCain-Feingold, which the Constitution Party considers an egregious violation fo First Amendment rights under the US Constitution.

GOP-RIP
GOP-RIP - (hat tip to VA Patriot)
1856-2006
150 years of so much promise
(The party's been dead for the last 2 years; it actually died in 2006 when it refused to take its medicine!)

Stupid Parties - Out of Touch Parties - always go the way of the Whigs. Just as the GOP grew out of the ashes of the Whig Party, so to shall it return to those selfsame ashes. At the GOP funeral in 2008 and on the GOP epitaph, it will read: "From the Whigs You Came - To the Whigs You Return."

There is more craziness here
than on the campaign trail.

To say the Reps. have to be punished by an Obamna victory so that the cons. will wake up and start representing taxpayers again--???

If Obama wins and has a filibuster-proof Senate, you can kiss the Am. taxpayer goodbye and spend a long time holding your breath until Reps. can ever make a majority again.

In the meantime, 2 or 3 more Ginsberg clones will be on the Sup. Ct. for life, energy will be smothered and taxed to death meaning long-term recession, and the Bush tax cuts will lapse adding up to $2500 more in taxes for a family of four making $60,000 starting in 2010.

Good luck on punishing the Reps. by electing your own suicide.

Illegal Immigration
Illegal Immigration
will not just go away as an issue like the GOP is trying to do by gingerly sweeping it under the rug. We TRUE CONSERVATIVES have not forgotten and will NEVER forget the Illegal Immigration sham that McCain, Bush, Kennedy, Graham, Isakson, Chambliss, and many others tried to make us swallow against our will. We puked it up and thought we taught the GOP a lesson that they have apparently still not learned judging by McCain's embracing of La Raza. The Conservative base will not budge on this nonsense. We know it is the DEATH of Conservatism to support this insanity.

All that McCain learned from this is that he should pretend to have "gotten the message" long enough to snag the nomination from the trusting Conservative GOP masses and then leave the Conservative GOP base in his dust as he coasts to the Presidency on the backs of Liberals and Moderates. It was some slick, smart, devious, Bait-and-Switch politicking on the order of the Democratic Party's tactics, which should come as no surprise: he always has been a Democrat - just a mighty stealthy one. Are you feeling the betrayal yet? Are you tired of making yet another excuse for this charlatan? How long will you pretend that this party has a seat for you at its table? The Conservative Party has a wide-open door for Conservatives and a slam-shut door for illegal immigrants. Vote Conservative Party in 2008.

McShamnesty/Kennedy
McShamnesty/Kennedy will allow eventually not 12 million or even 30 million but actually around 60 million Illegal Immigrants at one fell swoop to enter the US and be on the healthcare dole immediately. This is suicidal and political insanity at its absolute worst. That's what the media and even your beloved FOX NEWS doesn't want you to know about McShamnesty/Kennedy. It extends to ALL of the illegal immigrants family - even the family members still in Mexico. It authorizes more illegal immigrants than are even here right now. Grandmothers and Grandfathers and wives and sisters and brothers can all come on over and jump on the welfare bandwagon. YeeHAAA!!!

In other words, all of you McCainiacs would pull an Esau. For a pot of soup, a one-time McCain victory, you would sell your political birthright FOREVER because you would guarantee that the GOP would never see the political light of day ever again in this country. That's some real short-sighted thinking there.

1992 - Part II
This is 1992 all over again. Independents will poll strongly in this election. Bob Barr has left the GOP, and is running for the Libertarian Party Presidential nomination. Jerome Corsi has left the GOP. Alan Keyes has left the GOP, and Ron Paul may yet leave the GOP. Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter, if they take a good hard look at how Conservative media including especially Sellout "conservative?" Talk radio like Hannity, Gallagher, and Limbaugh and the GOP left them high and dry, should leave the GOP forever. Isn't it absolutely hilarious listening to Rush and Hannity make apologies over and over again for McCain's patently obvious LIBERALISM??? It only shows how much neither of these guys stand by ANYTHING they purport to stand for. THEY ARE STANDING FOR THE PRINCIPLES OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY, AND THEY KNOW IT!!!!!! Yet, they just can't bring themselves back to reality!

The aforementioned GOP defectors are all people who know that the GOP will surrender American Sovereignty not just with Illegal Immigration but the establishment and full support of the North American Union and the SPP, the Texas Superhighway linking Mexico to Canada via our backyards. THIS IS SUICIDE of the worst order. When you see over 1,000,000 Americans in DC or NYC blown to Kingdom Come by a nuclear suitcase bomb carried by Iranian or al Qaeda terrorists who speak fluent Spanish who have been assisted by the World Drug Cartel and Venezuela, maybe you'll begin to wonder why YOU short-sighted McCainiacs and shameless shills for the GOP squandered your vote for McShamnesty in the first place.

The Rude Awakening in 2008
The Liberal, Moderate, Conservative, and fearful McCainiac fools that have remained in the "GOP base" are going to find that you have unwittingly surrendered your country to the UN and to the North American Union and your beloved GOP will never win the Presidency ever again once McShamnesty goes into full effect.

It won't be 12 million illegal immigrants; it will be 60 million. DC always fudges the numbers down to fool the American public - politically unaware fools like you. Numbers are never the concern of politicians. They just see it all as more tax dollars for them to spend as they wish and more constituents they can fool at the ballot box.

McCain thinks by opening the borders he can add more Mexicans to the GOP ranks, and that is his own arrogance talking. The long-term effects on our welfare state will lead to the crumbling of America and further taxation into oblivion to pay for the ever-increasing welfare state. WHY??? Because BATTERED WIFE SYNDROME CONSERVATIVES who stayed with the party andelected McCain voted for the welfare state instead of the CONSTITUTION, which NOWHERE supports any such thing as a WELFARE STATE anywhere.

The Mexicans refuse to assimilate; they refuse to learn English because the GOP and the DEMS remain so Politically Correct and spineless to insist on ANYTHING. Every other race and ethnicity has learned English who has come to this country EXCEPT the Mexicans, who believe they can avoid our laws, avoid our language, avoid our culture, and avoid assimilation, and their ultimate desire is to take back land they consider to still be a part of Mexico and milk the welfare state from these foolish whoring politicians and the foolish Americans like the clueless GOP and DEMS who keep electing them for all its worth.

The Stupid, Hapless, Pitifully Poor GOP
McCain and the GOP cannot even raise enough money because of McCain-Feingold - how ironic is that??? It will be hilarious watching the hapless GOP try to compete in this national election with the media onslaught from the DEMS who have gobs of cash from McCain's short-sighted brainstorm, the 527, Soros's brainchild and McCain's own demise in the name of destroying the First Amendment to the Constitution, free speech, to appease his good buddy, Soros, the number one multibillionaire bankroller of the DEMOCRATIC Party.

THE GOP IS BROKE AND ON ITS LAST LEG BECAUSE THEY HAVE RAN OFF THEIR BIGGEST DONORS - THEIR OWN CONSERVATIVE BASE. Good Luck with that. It has NEVER worked. The last time they tried this move to the Center/Left formula, it was with Dole, and they were trounced. Before that, it was socially Liberal, yankee, babykilling Ford, who was shellacked. THE STUPID PARTY NEVER LEARNS ANYTHING; that's how they got the name, THE STUPID PARTY!

Obamba's new "christian" ads, ridiculous
Obamba is so out of touch with real Christians he doesn't have a clue that real Christians have already been warned about wolves in sheep's clothing; they know if he was a REAL Christian he wouldn’t be gung-ho for live birth abortion or have sat in Rev Wright's racist church for 20 years and his willingness to put Israel in jeopardy by wanting to have tea with Im-a-dinner-jacket of Iran. Heck, seeing his new ad posed in front of a cross with ‘COMMITTED CHRISTIAN” in big bold letters, quite the contrary, just looks OMINOUS - in fact, it actually looks really creepy and blasphemous, antichrist-ish.

Here’s Obamba’s new ad he’s running in Kentucky, where he bills himself as “COMMITTED CHRISTIAN”

http://race42008.com/2008/05/12/barack-obamas-pitch-in-kent ucky/

Based on the polls (Hillary up by 40), looks the bible-clutching, gun toting, beer-drinking yahoos don’t buy what he’s peddling.

Guess someone should tell Obamba most protestant and Catholic Christians know he wholeheartedly supports LIVE BIRTH ABORTION, a sheer give away he is NOT a committed Christian. All for naught Obamba.

The REAL purpose of "Super Delegates"
It seems fairly obvious to me they were created to maintain the "status quo", which can negate the "democratic" element of the party of Democrats by controlling the elective process regardless of who the majority wishes to elect.

It's just another leftist dirty trick, nothing new here.

And they deserve what they get. Like Miss Ann says, "If they were smart, they would be Republicans."

Renny
Do you really think the Democrats can outspend the GOP? Read Novak's column. 100 GOP house members and 35 Senate members voted for the $300 B ag bill, and only 91 GOP House and 13 Senate members voted against. The bill is a 44% increase over last year. This made the bill veto proof. At a time when we're running a $500 B deficit on the current $3.2 trillion budget - which grew from $1.88 trillion in 2000. Then, 35 house members voted to increase taxes on the wealthy. The cap and trade plan the McCain endorsed, in turn, started with the Democrats who first proposed it - and set a goal of an 80% reduction in Carbon. The GOP and McCains version set a 60% goal. The cost - projected at $100 B to $200 B. Now, add in the cost of expanding the military - which both McCain and Obama support - and the cost of the two parties health care proposals. The Dems will simply tax and pay for it, the GOP proposes to cut taxes and let the consumer pay for it. One will add $100 B in spending, the other will reduce tax revenues by $100 B. And so it goes. When the GOP flipped to buying votes through spending, beginning in 2001, the only stop we had was removed. Now, we have all the same pigs at the same trough - and there is no fiscal responsibility left at all.

Now, if you believe, as I do, that the only country that can defeat America is America, and that the basis of this country is a strong economy, then you can understand that people like me tier all other issues below that one. Right now - both parties are on an uncontrolled vote buying spending spree - the likes of which we have never seen before - look it up. We added $4.2 trillion to our debt and increased spending by 80% over the last 8 years. This has never remotely happened before. But, it's happening now.

a Hobson's Choice this election
re:
"But McCain was not really a consensus choice."

*********************************************

Why Amnesty John is the RINO nominee:

1) He barely edged the others out in what proved to be the deciding state AGAIN-- Florida
2) He pulled off #1 because Sen. Martinez told the Hispanics in Fla. to vote for Amnesty John
3) The guy running for veep all along, the Huckster, joined McAmnesty to torpedo Romney
4) some power establishment types favored McAmnesty-- the neoCONS (wanting to perpetuate their debacle in Iraq for Israel's flank protection) and the ILLEGAL alien support groups-- miscreant employers, the PC establishment, the open border, globalist, CFR ilk, "cheap" labor is good cabal, and the ethnocentric Hispanic/Reconquista cadre
5) Amnesty John PRETENDED to "have gotten America's message on stanching ILLEGALS, while fuming quietly and defiantly, "I'll build the damm wall if that's what they want!" [but reward my amigos with citizenship as fast as I can!]
6) mere Congressmen like Tancredo and Hunter never have a real chance (the MSM refuses to define them as major candidates, and brands them fringe conservatives... why is Obamanation not then a fringe liberal?), even though a majority agrees with them on key issues

A Choice
The despicable left wing propaganda machine aka main stream media has conditioned the US to believe that there is only two choices when it comes to voting. You either will vote Democrat or you will vote Republican. That is the great lie. You do have a choice. I will vote either for the Constitution Party's candidate, Chuck Baldwin, or the Independent Party's candidate Bob Barr. These are great men who believe in the US Constitution and do not believe in Big Government. We must get away from the mainstream media's candidates. It's now or never. The msm candidates are either Islamic socialists, bHussein Obama, who wants his middle name kept secret, and his racist wife Ms Obama, or you can vote for the RINO McShamesty. Those are no choices at all. I will not vote for the left wing. If either of those two are elected it won't matter. You do have other very good choices.

Something that M. Barone left out
is that the campaign has been going on since two days after the 2004 election. Maybe not offically by the candidates, but definitely by the mainstream media. I recall when the nice thing about getting a presidential election over with is that you had about 2 1/2 years when you didn't even think about the next one. Not any more.

You Can Fool...
some of We The People some of the time, and you can even fool all of We the People some of the time, BUT YOU CAN NEVER FOOL ALL OF WE THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME! Game's over, GOP!

Changing of The Guard
Regardless of how much so-called "Conservative" talk radio remains in their eternally clueless, apologetic state for a man who is a one-issue conservative on the War - yeah, that's it, period, or should I say exclamation point! Listening to Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, and even Michael Savage tirelessly keep on defending McCain is starting to sound silly and belies that not one of these guys REALLY STANDS FOR CONSERVATISM AT ALL. Sean stupidly thinks coming up wit ha list of 10 objectives will do the trick, and quietly reminds his listeners that we tried this already but hey it might work again, maybe! Who are these guys kidding but themselves and you McCainiacs out there? Sean, Rush, and Michael wants to stay in Iraq FOREVER. The Iraqis want us to play cop for them forever. There is no reason why these people can't start defending themselves other than they would rather Americans die at the hands of the terrorists. Bob Barr, presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party and Chuck Baldwin, the presidential nominee of the Constitution Party understand this quite well. Alan Keyes understands this. Jerome Corsi, Ron Paul, and Pat Buchanan understand this. America has no business in nation-building; it's not Constitutional. George Bush promised the American People he would not engage in this nonsense, but George has broken that promise among many, many others. George and the GOp and indeed almost all of the corporate political whores in DC gave the American electorate the finger with Illegal Immigration. Up yours, DC! Time to pack your bags, scumbags! We're changing the Guard!
