The Rules Are Changing for Obama

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Barack Obama seemed puzzled. Angrily puzzled. The apostle of hope seemed flummoxed by the audacity of the question. At the April 16 Philadelphia debate, George Stephanopoulos, longtime aide to Democratic politicians, was asking about his longtime association with Weather Underground bomber William Ayers.

The Weather Underground attacked the Pentagon, the Capitol and other public buildings; Ayers was quoted in The New York Times on Sept. 11, 2001, as saying, "I don't regret setting bombs; I feel we didn't do enough."

It was at Ayers' house that Obama's state Senate candidacy was launched in 1995; Obama continued to serve on a nonprofit board with Ayers after the Times article appeared.

Obamaites live-blogging the debate were outraged. The press is not supposed to ask such questions. They are supposed to invite the candidates to expatiate on how generous their health care plans are. Or to allow them to proclaim that "we are the change that we are seeking." Or to once again bash George W. Bush.

There was some of that in this debate. But Obama was asked about his association with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, his remarks about wearing an American flag lapel pin, his comment that "bitter" small town Pennsylvanians "cling to guns and religion" and his "friendly" relations -- "friendly" is his campaign adviser David Axelrod's word -- with William Ayers.

Did Obama expect that this would never come up in the campaign? He certainly gave that impression. The normally poised candidate looked irritated and weary. "This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who's a professor of English" -- actually, it's education -- "in Chicago, who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He's not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis. And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn't make much sense, George."

He compared Ayers to Sen. Tom Coburn, who has advocated the death penalty for abortionists. But of course Coburn has never advocated bombing their houses or clinics.

"A guy who lives in my neighborhood." Debates are held not just to learn the details of the candidates' health care plans -- which given the complexity of the issue will probably be considerably altered if they are ever actually put on the table -- but also to learn who the candidates are. And that includes learning about which guys who live in their neighborhood they chose to befriend. About Obama almost all Americans knew next to nothing when he got up on the podium of the 2004 Democratic National Convention and instantly made himself presidential candidate material.

His gracefully written autobiographical "Dreams From My Father" -- we could learn, if we could get through all 464 pages -- is a story not of transcending racial barriers but of developing a black and African identity.

The presidency is a uniquely personal office, and each incumbent puts his individual stamp on it. Obama's choice to join Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church and his choice to befriend William Ayers were not those most Americans would make, and Hillary Clinton was quick to declare, perhaps opportunistically, they were not choices she would have made.

This doesn't mean that Obama is responsible for Wright's outrageous statements or for Ayers' criminal acts (the charges against him were dropped because of government misconduct). But Obama's choices to associate with Wright and Ayers tend to undercut his appealing message -- very appealing after 15 years of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush -- that we must strive to overcome the racial and cultural and ideological divisions which have dominated our politics They are something that voters are entitled to weigh as they make their decisions.

Obama fans are upset that ABC News' Stephanopoulos and Charlie Gibson broke the unwritten rule that you are not supposed to ask Democratic candidates about these things. Associations with unrepentant radicals and comments made to contributors at a San Francisco fund-raiser in a billionaire's mansion are supposed to be kept indoors. Only the face that the candidate wants to place before the public should be seen.

Beliefs that most activist liberals share should be kept under wraps if they are unpopular with most of the voting public. That is how mainstream media have operated for the last generation or more. But not at Philadelphia's Constitution Center on April 16. The rules had changed. And Barack Obama was not well prepared.

"It was at Ayers' house that Obama's state Senate candidacy was launched in 1995; Obama continued to serve on a nonprofit board with Ayers after the Times article appeared".

This is relevant and while I know that Obama supporters want to bury their heads in the sand so they can claim they are so progressive, I would suggest that you not be work so hard at proving how progressive you are, and that if you were truly all that progressive you would have no need to prove anything.
Character, principles, morals, pride in your country, loving your country, judgment, associations, honesty, all these things are relevant. The fact that Obama supporters are offended at questions that are directed in these areas proves that they know he is lacking in these areas. If Obama came off looking and sounding good when these types of questions were ask they would want more of those questions ask.
If these things aren’t relevant, then what is? Some will say ideas, policy, hope … I say if he lacks they above then we can’t place any faith in anything else he says.

Amen.

Sinister Radical Obama
Too many lies
Too many shady friends, mentors and advisors
Too many shady deals

Cocaine use past
Radical past
Racist agenda
Reckless agenda

And there there is Michelle:

The USA cannot afford to have an enemy of State to be its leader.

"You are judged...
...by the company you keep". The moral of a fable by Aesop. Maybe Mr Obama needs to reread some of those bedtime stories from his childhood.

Yes, Stephy asked the question, but
only because he is a Klinton tool. If/when O'Vomit gets the nod he will be golden boy regardless of SNL skits.

In fact, I suspect that the SNL writers have been recalibrated to assure that O'Vomit is treated kindly.

Even B.H.O. is not above scrutiny...

Isn't it great how the dem's unknown 'Annointed One' is finally being revealed through his own deviant, radical friends & low-life associations.. and inspite of his hush-hush, in-the-tank, Lib Accomplices of the lamestremmedia..

A bit of levity
The best joke of this election cycle (aside from the debates):

Clinton, Obama, and McCain were on a ship in the middle of the ocean. The ship sank. No rescuer was able to reach them in time. Who was saved?

The country.

Boutte
Off the meds there buddy? Doom and gloom must seem a huge step up for you. The only folks who believe in the drivel you spew are like minded windbag liberals. Why not leave this sinking ship before the rats? With optimism like yours why get up in the morning? You best find the light friend.

Write ABCnews..com
Please take a moment to write ABCnews.com and tell them that the probing questions of Obama are long overdue and were appreciated.

Boutte
Your esteemed Socialist 'leaders'/traitors' in Washington have worked hard and long to see President Bush fail
They do so for political reasons -- you are in the same mindset, though on a lowly scale.
Yes, you wanted things to go sour, so shut your damn moronic face.

Vote for a damn Socialist if it pleases you, but don't let us hear you crying after total socialism arrives.

Past cocaine use?
What about his current tobacco use? If that doesn't show poor judgment, I can't imagine what does. What a fine example to his two daughters, not to mention black youths everywhere, who are at a much higher risk than any other group to become addicted to the disease-producing weed. If he makes such irresponsible choices about his own health, how can he be expected to make responsible ones as a public official?

Sharon
Well said. We finally know what's in that "empty suit". And it ain't very pretty.

Vaihalla: Can I get an Amen!

tx honey bee: The dem's "Annoited One"? Just another John Edwards lacking the hairdo.

Boutte: Try thinking about living in China, Russia or Iran. America is like a paradise in comparison. And you better pray tonight and every other night that this country doesn't tank. There's not many gates holding back the barbarians these days. Think of America as the Main Gate.

NO REAL DEBATE
As usual and as Barak has proved, we are being taken for fools: no questions about immigration, about reparations, about southern (promissed) fence - no real questions about problems nurturing real Americans.

What a circus!

Rule change, or favor.

Regardless if the rules have changed, or if Stephy just repaid Miss Hillary for some old favors... the vetting process of Obama continues.

And amazingly, Obama himself keeps contributing, and generously, to the education of the American voter... about his judgement, about who he really is, and what he actually stands for.

And with the increased participation of the "new media" in the internet and the 527's, Obama will have fewer and fewer places to hide.

And finally, a growing number of Americans now also wonder how many more things there are... of which Obama would rather not have us know about.

This is not over.

Oh, such honesty.

Obama the scoundrel
The truth is blinding, and Obama, it turns out, isn't the Messiah the Democrats had portrayed. Obvious to see by those of us with conservative values. But how is it that his popularity keeps rising in the Democratic primary? How can so many people not care about his hypocrisy, racism, terrorist associations, etc. The greater problem than Obama are the fools who vote Democratic irregardless of the candidates credentials. They blindly "clutch" to political promises that big government will solve all their problems even if carried forward by a scoundrel.

Media shame & McCain electability
Media has temporarily been compelled to abandon its lovefest over Obama, as Philadelphia demonstrated. Coverage of BHO had gotten to be embarrassing, as SNL's satiric take on media's drooling and fawning over Obama illustrated a few months back.

In reference to a posting, I have to say no one "caused" G.W. Bush to fail. His policies accomplished that.

But back to the election in November, if Obama is the nominee, I think he is so damaged by Wright, and BHO's insulting characterization of small-town America, that "Mad-dog" McCain has a fairly good shot.

Americans hold the current administration in low esteem.

McCain, as the GOP successor to Bush, should be extremely vulnerable for the following reasons:

Angst over the economy; Unprecedented rise in gas prices and free-falling dollar eroding American's standard of living; Higher unemployment; Near-certain recession; Out-of-touch mindset on border enforcement; Six years of flailing about in Iraq that is incurring cataclysmic costs for future generations of Americans(with Americans now by a 2:1 ratio believing the Iraq war was a mistake).

And into this "positive" Bush legacy jumps Johnny McCain, who should not stand a snowball's chance in Hades.

But he does. He is only a few points behind the Democrats.

The more McCain diverges from the policies of G.W. Bush, the more electable he becomes.

Why the polls are so close now is that McCain has not distanced himself sufficiently from the current adminstration.

On the flip side
If the situation were reversed, and applied to a Republican candidate, I doubt anyone would have anything but kudos for ABC News.

Say, hypothetically, that a GOP front-runner had a long association with someone connected to a white supremacist group. I'd suspect that those complaining about Gibson and Stephanopoulos' grilling of Senator Obama would be cheering, for their good job of "outing" the fellow. By comparison, conservatives wouldn't be complaining, because the GOP has a more-or-less standing policy of not supporting candidates with obvious problems, including associating with people known to be radicals of any stripe.

The fact that the "Democratic base" now wants ABC News, and Gibson and Stephanopoulos, drawn, quartered, and burned at the stake is very telling.

As Tom Clancy said (in "The Bear And The Dragon"), this indicates that what they have is not a principle, but an ideology. And that is decidedly not helpful.

However, it is highly revealing.

Ah, Boutte.....
Many of the things you cry about are the direct result of the hard work of your running dog Damocrats in congress and elsewhere.

For example, not being able to win wars.

And social security busting.

And so on, ad nauseum.

Get a life!

You're right; it isn't over yet, not by a long shot. I grew up in Illinois and know firsthand about the corruption in Illinois politics, especially Chicago politics. One must go along to get along there. we can be assured that there are many more skeletons in the Obama closet, that's just the way it is done in Chicago.

I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember Chicago Mayor Richard J Daley (the old one). The standing joke, which wasn't a joke at all, was that Daley always got more votes from dead voters than his opponents got from live ones. We can all enjoy the summer, as all the disagreeable scum from BO's past are brought to light.

Boutte
Dude, did you miss your psychoproctology appointment again this week?

What rules are changing?
First it was Hillary. She was asked questions first and she thought she was being picked on. After Hillary spank the media for asking her questions first and treating her like a normal candidate running for President, did the attention switch from her to Obama. Mind you, this is the MSM, who respected the hands off policy when Hillary was first lady. When the MSM started focusing on Obama because of Hillary's gripes, no one heard a word from Obama as long as it was being done by the MSM. When Hillary saw the attacks were going nowhere with the MSM did the attacks start coming from elsewhere. Talk radio, Fox, and Hillary formed a coalition to attack Obama in ways the MSM wouldn't. When the Reverend Wrights tapes surfaced it was icing on the cake for Hillary. All Hillary has to do is sit tight, stay in the race and let talk radio and Fox do the attacks for her. It's only after the Wednesday debate did Obama say something about the questions he was asked for the first 45 minutes. Rules are definetely changing, not for Obama or Hillary, but in the way talk radio and Fox are supporting a Democrat for the nomination, and encouraging Conservatives to crossover and vote for Hillary. This is Conservatism.

Obama's hypocrisy
Obama tells a story in his book The Audacity of Hope, about a young white man named Robert Stephan, who had been invited by some of his friends to a private club. When He got there he noticed that everyone was white. He thought that was odd and when he asked, he was told it was a white only club. To his credit, he dropped his napkin in his plate and walked out. Obama stated in his book that he chooses not to brood over the fact that there are still all white clubs in America whose members are hostile to people who look like him.

Obama states, “I choose to think about Robert instead, and the small but difficult gesture he made. If a young man like Robert can make the effort to cross the currents of habit and fear in order to do what he knows is right, then I want to be sure that I’m there to meet him on the other side and help him onto the shore.”

It appears Obama wrote this book to tell us who he is as presidential candidate. Unfortunately for him, his actions speak louder than his printed words when it comes to “[doing] what he knows is right”. He praises Robert’s right choice of who to associate with, but would rather not have his associations brought into the light. Seems a bit hypocritical to

Never mind
Reverend Wright; never mind William Ayers; never mind the alleged cocain use; never mind his refusal to wear a flag lapel pin; never mind his America-hating wife. Set all that aside. What should really disturb us is the fact that for the first time in American history, a genuine socialist is being seariously considered for our highest office... and he may well win!

Boutte Is Not Wrong
The essence of his comments are okay but I would have said it a little differently. At least 3 presidents in a row have driven the US further into the theologies of the CFR, Trilateralists, and Bilderbergs -- open borders, tear down sovereignty, dilute the Constitution, "free" trade, and globalism. Jorge Bush has gone so far as to push the LOST treaty, invite illegals, and endorse bailouts for Wall Street and credit bums. His Treasury Secretary is the first person to be seen when bailouts occur. He sided with the World Court against Texas. Is he committing treason? Is he violating our laws? Has he instructed the State Department to pull Jimmy Carter's passport for promoting Hamas and similar thugs and murderers? Public disclosure: Barone is on the membership list of the CFR.

As I See It
Obama was first a radical and bitter. He associated with the likes of Ayers and Wright, not because he was different but because he was like them. The radical Communist leaning people like Hollywood, the MSM, George Soros, and others saw in Obama a Black minority (much more appeal than any other minority) that they could use and later discard. This group of secularist anti-Democratic Republicans began to train, finance, and develop a political organization to lead Obama to the Presidency. It would be impossible for a 2 year Senator to develop such an organization and financial ties as Obama has at his disposal. Obama is just a marionette with the correct racial credentials and appearance to fool the Democrat base, if the MSM can provide the cover and obfuscation needed to win the nomination. So far they have succeeded---Hillary has been disposed of, she is gone---next hurdle dispose of McCain.

I always get very nervious.....
I always get very nervious when I learn anyone, but especially politicians, associate on a personal level with clearly "bad" people! I want to know why? Senator Obama, if you want to be MY President, you will have to explain this to me! Only then, will I consider you if your explanations clearly show you are not what I fear you are! If you are a way-out liberal, you will not get my vote. Liberals are trying to ruin this country. The sad thing is they do not even recognize this! Everything in moderation, including liberals and conservatives! IMHO!

Obama folllowers are blind to his faults
I agree that you can judge a person by the company he keeps. I find it incredible that like sheep to the slaughter, Obamicans can see no evil in their candidates past associations. Sure, it is possible that any of us could have one or two associates that may have a dubious past without our knowledge. It seems that in Obama's case it was the rule rather than the exception.
First there is(described in his book)an early mentor whom is an admitted communist. Then there is his pastor of over twenty years with his hate filled diatribes against America nad the rich white devils. There is his friendship with Bill Ayers or the weather underground. His previous campaign manager indicted. There is Michele Obamas senior thesis from Princeton replete with criticisms of America as founded on hate and racism. Obama's Half-brother, a radical Muslim in kenya is closely associated with Riala Odinga whom wants to establish Sharia law in Kenya.
Taken in context it paints a picture of Obama's world view. It is a disturbing portent of his potential presidency. Yet the left of the Democratic party see nothing but roses. Amazing!

sawdust 8:10 AM.

Sorry about your tough childhood. :-)

But having been raised in the same vicinity, I can assure you that not too much has changed.

On election day... even the dead rise, and the battle-cry is, "Vote early, and vote often."

And in Illinois, with the Obama-rama... it is nothing less than rapture time.

P.T. Barnum would be proud.

Of course now, he is done debating!
Now B. Hussein wants nothing to do with any more "debates" and wants to spend his time "campaigning". What is it about debates that is not campaigning? Only, that he doesn't get to frame every detail of what is said and he is afraid that even the stupid, vote for a dem no matter what, liberals will see who he really is! Who he really is is not a pretty sight, he actually makes Hillary seem almost human. Of course with McCain being the other liberal candidate, we are screwed either way.

Sharon
and others -

I am a supporter against Clinton. Corruption, for sure.

I believe these questions are harsh directed at Barak Obama, however, having said that, all questions reveal more information. I was disappointed in my candidate's uncomfortableness with addressing such questions with more ease.

Either he is so innocent and focused on his duty, that he hadn't anticipated the scum of the earth's Q&A session. Or something else.

I pray to know he is innocent of raw politics in America. And that he can change it by ignoring it all together.

Note: Truth is always revealed. We need not worry about that.

Guilty associations
Barone writes:
The presidency is a uniquely personal office, and each incumbent puts his individual stamp on it. Obama's choice to join Rev. Jeremiah Wright's church and his choice to befriend William Ayers were not those most Americans would make

PW: It's amusing to see MSM pundits and Barone clones of the Fox subculture hyperventilate over Obama's mininister, his failure to wear a lapel pin and now his association with an aging radical hippie who presumably has paid his debt to society.

One can only dream about a world in which GWB would be held to a similar standard. Drunk until he was 40, concealed a dwi conviction until it was leaked on the eve of his nomination, close friends with and beneficiary of Ken Lay, accomplice of Dick Cheney in a war of aggression, torture policies, and warrantless spying on Americans, etc. etc. etc.

But for the chicken-doody Democrats and unprincipled Republicans that pass as Congress members these days, he'd have long since been impeached.

What sort of stamp has all that put on the presidency, Mr. Barone? Though you may be right that most Americans would shun anyone who'd ever been in trouble and leave their churches if they heard second-hand their minister had made provocative remarks from the pulpit (Obama wasn't present in church for Rev. Wright's YouTube sermon). But if you're right about that, then all that means is that most Americans are shallow, peevish idiots.

Thinker and dvdkfmn
Thinker:

Obama is a meathead. He has no answers. He and Hillary have an irresponsible position on the war. Obama seemed hypnotized by the question on capital-gains taxes. Look for an article by Larry Kudlow on that. My nephews with piggy banks have more financial acumen.

More to the point, what "reparations" are you talking about?

Get back to me on that.

dvdkfmn:

I'm not about to pay a dime for that idiot's books. That said, the story about Robert Stephen should be forced fed to Obama every day of the week until he finally admits that he was too afraid to leave Wright's church because he needed the political backing of Wright and his congregants.

the company you keep
it becomes either a matter of judgement or the lack of such with those you seek advise and cousel from. The oblahma claims that 20 plus years of listening to wright had no effect on his thinking and his perception of america. But the oblahma's wife sitting next him not only heard wright's message but vocalizes the crybaby victimhood of persons that are millionaires crying about juggling a budget.

Likewise it doesn't pass the smell test that someone wouldn't have notified the oblahma's who the ayers were. I would almost bet that ayers himself bragged to the oblahma about his involvement with the weather underground as that seems to be his sole acomplishment in life.

But the tag of elitism is the one that the oblahma will have the most difficulty living down. Americans have no problem with persons of any race accomplishing great things with their lives. But everyday americans do have great difficulty dealing with elitists who look down on them, on their lifestyles and values. In the land of opportunity we are more troubled with being held in distain by others who somehow think their lives have more value than our own but seem more than willing to tell us they are better than we are. In the oblahma's we have such a couple who parade around as though they are truly special, which obviously they aren't

Perry White
"shallow, peevish idiots"--Rarely does one illuminate himself with such a defining light.

IS IT ENTERTAINMENT OR DISCUSSING ISSUES
The media including Town Hall have really wasted way too much time on who each of the candidates associated with when, who is related, who did a business deal, etc., etc. Among many of my friends we want to known now who has the best economic solution that does not dehold us to China and foreign oil. We are a great nation that should not need to have depend on other countries to buy our debt or provide the USA with energy. If I wanted personality I would vote for Reilly, Regis or Kelly.

Here is my way of poking fun at the awful coverage.

You provided an interesting excerpt from Mr. Obama's book.
So he admired a man who would "put down his napkin" and leave a place that had suspect values.
Yet he himself did not leave his church under reverse conditions. That's telling.
It sounds like his book is peppered with panders to the black community of which he is not and never has been a part. To boost his authenticity among those who deem him "not black enough" because due to his somewhat different background, he shares no part. They're actually right. Stories like that are panders in lieu of actual experience.

As to the article, I think Mr. Obama is genuinely nonplussed by the questions. He is not used to being asked questions. If you come up as he did, and spend your time among the liberal ultra elite, you are never questioned. Just adored.
He has some surprises coming, because having spent his life among a very small groupthink, he has no clue about most Americans. It might be a rude awakening. And some version of the right wing conspiracy, 'the nasty republicans' will be blamed.

Nellie
I'm afraid you are fixin' to be very disappointed in your candidate. Many of you saw something different there, and hoped it was someone who was somehow "above" politics as usual. You will find that he made deals with pretty shady people to get where he is. Partly through naivete, but just the same, shady.
He just rose too fast, my dear. He should have been vetted by experience before he was catapulted into the limelight.
I will say though, kudos to you for your honesty, and for still being here. I notice that many of his ardent supporters have stopped posting since these kinds of associations started coming to light.

About those touchy questions
It's About Time! Not only must those tough and touchy questions be asked - they must be answered. Did the naive charlatan from Chicago really think the free pass has no expiration date?
Consider your ticket punched, Senator, and anticipate more - much more - of the same. It'll get so tough, in fact, that Michelle will likely say she's NO LONGER feeling proud to be an American...an' that's OK, too. 'Must be a number of countries that wouldn't mind her husband taking over - she can try being proud someplace else, if that's her feeling.
It's long overdue that some balance was brought into this campaign...nothing about Clinton has been off limits - NOTHING! The time for Obama to skate with impunity is OVER...as least, I hope so....let's stop the smoke 'n mirrors and interrogate both these candidates fiercely and fairly, and may the best one ultimately win...

Boutte
Congratulations! You've written the most disoriented, disjointed and discombobulated post I've ever dissed in these spaces.

Perry White
I don't know of anyone who would "shun anyone who'd ever been in trouble". I think you missed the point.

I'm sure there are shallow peevish people among us, but that's not how I would characterize Americans who want to know more about the person who wants them to put him in the oval office. Even though he's not used to being questioned, and even though it's not considered necessary in the circles he's used to. He should- what? Be ushered in unquestioned? Turns out, he's someone who's spent his life among people who are very very leftwing thinkers. It's relevant.

Sorry, but if he wants to be president, he'd better be able to take some heat. Also relevant.

And, defend your guy if you will, but can't you come up with something better than turning the pointing finger onto President Bush? That seems to be a familiar ploy, and it's very weak.

Boutte writes: "The fauxons' smears

grow ever duller... As if one American voter in 100 will give a rodent's rear end whom Obama hung out with..."

BUT, I'd bet my last dollar that if it were McCain, or ANY Republican, boutte would care a LOT! ... Wouldn't you?

That's what I thought! :-)

Put aside all the anger
over even asking Obama the irritating questions. Consider that he was not up to handling them with calm and intelligence (even though he is very intelligent). His performance didn't convince me he is up to the demands of the presidency.

BOUTTE; I read your long list of all the problems facing this country and wonder if you are suggesting Obama can solve them. Evidence? Or is all it takes is hope?

Thanks for Michael Barone
In a point of concession, I do wonder why ABC used George S. for this debate, given that he was such a Hillary-lapdog during the Clinton Adminstration. Still, the media has allowed Obama to cruise at 10,000 feet on automatic pilot for too long.

Obama's girlie (sorry, ladies) whining makes me embarrassed to be a male. It's like watching Johnny Fontaine cry in front of Vito Corleone in the "Godfather." Sorry, Obama, I guess you learned the lesson state by that fountain of wisdom, Mike Tyson: "Everyone has a plan when they step into the ring. And then they get hit in the face." Stop whining.

Now, Barone quotes Obama's snotty response to George S. as follows:

"This is a guy who lives in my neighborhood, who's a professor of English" -- actually, it's education -- "in Chicago, who I know and who I have not received some official endorsement from. He's not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis. And the notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago when I was 8 years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn't make much sense, George."

The third, fourth, and fifth "who" should be "whom." What about "exchange ideas from on a regular basis"? "From" should have been "with," and any exchange is objectionable.

This relationship needs more inquiry. Ayres hosted a political coming out party for Obama in 1995. That sounds like a BIG deal. Time to call out the dogs.

I HAD A DREAM
Character matters. This was posted by Maggie yasterday. It really does explain the libs thinking.

This is kind of funny that the Democrats just couldn't get past the fact that Obama is black. Always bragging how progressive the are. So they never vetted him because nothing else mattered except the color of his skin. Seems now the party leaders are figuring out there are some major character flaws.
The liberals should have actually listened to the the words Reverend King spoke.
" a man should be judged by the content of his character and not the color of his skin ".

the oblahma problem
he acted as though he is somehow owed the presidentcy. His early message of hope and change was an interesting campaign ploy but in the close to 15 months since he officially announced for president he has done little to flesh out his proposals.

We hear of huge spending plans and proposed tax increases to fund his programs. We hear of more money sent to entitlment programs which is nothing more than govt handouts given and not earned. But we don't hear anything about making govt more efficient or weeding out any part of govt that is inefficient or doing redundant work.

But we have also heard of his continued allegiance to the usual group of dim supporters, the teachers, the unions and the trial lawyers, so what we have is not an agent of change but rather the candidate of status quo.

If in fact the oblahma is the great new light when will the public hear more about his ideas rather than the bumper stickers he continues to run on. He is now acting like the 5 year old who had the neighboring bully, in this case the missus clinton, take away his favorite toy, msm attention. Rather than try and get it back he is crying for his new mommy, the msm, to comfort and dry his tears but also force the bully to give him the center stage in this nomination process

If one is honest, consider the tone & nature of the questions George Bush has been asked over the past 7 years by the MSM, and contrast those with the questions Obama was asked in this debate.

Then ask yourself how many times you've heard Bush come out and whine about it.

It is reported from the campaign trail that Obama, while addressing a crowd of supporters, spent several minutes whining about the questions he was asked.

There are many legitimate reasons to see Obama as "not ready for prime time", but added to those - we certainly don't need a whiner in the oval office.

Obama wasn't there that Sunday.
I keep hearing Obama's own statement that he wasn't there on the (only?) Sunday that Rev. Wright chose to spew a torrent of anti-Americanism ("God Damn America!"), anti-semitism, hatred for whites, black supremacy and so on...Where's the proof of that? Where's the proof that he wasn't there on that one Sunday, therefore for twenty years in the pew, he never had heard any reason to question Wright's message, his meaning, or his mind? Saying in his own defense that, "I was not in church that Sunday" is a lot like saying, "The dog ate my homework." Has anyone (other than the newly-proud American, Michelle) corroborated that he was in fact, absent on all the Sundays, including that one, in which Wright ranted and railed away spewing hate in it's many viscious forms? How is it that the man who wants to be the next president was so isolated from this, so unaware as to make me ask, how can he be that selectively detached and unaware, and still be considered a candidate leader of this country...
How stupid does he think the American electorate is, and is this not an insult to us all that he would throw this bone to us of such a lame defense for not knowing the true nature of Wright and his hate-filled message simply because he "was not in church that Sunday" ????? We all need to wake up and smell the stink that surrounds that story....I don't buy it, do you?

Reverend Wright
Perry White wrote:

"Though you may be right that most Americans would shun anyone who'd ever been in trouble and leave their churches if they heard second-hand their minister had made provocative remarks from the pulpit (Obama wasn't present in church for Rev. Wright's YouTube sermon)."

Mr. White: I can't figure out WHAT Obama knew about wright and WHEN he knew them because Obama has been completely evasive about the entire matter. He tried three times before the Philadelphia speech to explain himself, and he gave an increasingly obscure answer. I recall that the first answer was "I didn't personally hear the remarks." That sounds as if he may not have been present but he darn well knew about them.

He's a lawyer trained in the Socratic method of question and answer to get to the heart of a matter. If he's so gutless that he chose not to inquire into Wright's view, screw him. I don't need that kind of cowardice in the White House.

Personally, I've concluded that Obama knew of all of Wright's views a long time ago. To conclude otherwise requires me to believe one or all of the following: (1) Obama fits the vilest of stereotypes--he's just a dumb black guy (which isn't true, so I can't believe this); (2) he's the most uninformed "active" member of a Christian church in the history of Christianity (I can't believe this); or (3) Wright had some Rasputin-like hold over Obama's intellect such that Obama would overlook Wright's outrageous views (I doubt it).

I believe Obama knew it all. I've seen enough to say that the onus is on Obama to definitively nail down what he knew and when. He hasn't. The question should keep getting asked.

Wise words
Grandpa used to say "lie down with dogs and you get up with fleas". No amount of flea ointment will cure Obama's problem. They are embedded in his fiber.

Character DOES Matter
lula may:

That line has resounded with me for weeks throughout Obama's problems. Unfortunately, it appears that MLK's wonderful speeches operate in only one direction. All the same, you are "spot on" as the British say.

Let's face it. We can point to all of the "issues" the exist right now. But the key thing is character--Americans need to have a gut feel for their president because crises always intervene in every administration. Did Bush expect planes to fly into buildings and for a hurricane to wipe a city. Complain all you want about Bush. I can't defend him too vehemently, but I'm glad he was there rather than Gore or Kerry.

Chris Matthews (pretty in the tank for Obama) said things well about the attitudes of some old politicians he used to know 30 years or so ago. To paraphrase, he said "They always asked two questions about someone they didn't know: 'What's he like?' and 'Is he okay?'"

I don't like what I see in Obama, and it has nothing to do with race. Further, I don't think he's okay. So we have to keep digging at this guy.

My thought exacly
Swerlly says, He's not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis.

But he does exchange ideas with him, just not on a regular basis.

Swerlly is swerlling the bottom of the bowl.

Primus54
Good point about Bush. I daresay if a Republican had shady connections or past activities that reflected in a negative way upon him, they would most certainly be scrutinized.

Oh, wait a minute, wasn't there a drunk driving episode far in George Bush's past that was dredged up by the media (totally coincidentally) about a week before the 2000 election? And didn't Dan Rather stir up a dust devil (totally discredited, by the way) just before election 2004 about George Bush being less than diligent when it came to some of National Guard activities? And weren't we told that this past behavior was newsworthy and relevant to having full disclosure about the candidate and being able to make an informed decision?

Sam
I like what you pointed out about any exchange being objectionable. "He's not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis."

Most people neglect to notice that. First words out of my mouth were.."Oh, so he'll exchange ideas on a less regular basis?"

And what about Pastor Meeks? Another 'good friend like an Uncle' like Wright only more rabid. Speaking of Wright, Obama may not have been in the audience on the youtube video, but again America has a short memory. BS Obuttma stated as fact that he never heard Wright say inflammatory statements either publicly or privately nor did he hear of such things. Two days later he then stated as fact, "Sure I heard some sermons like that, but I disagree with his comments." (and he's not about politics as usual?)

BHO's "Dreams From My Father" Ummm?

And that would be his Muslim father?

Maybe Coulter has been on to something all along!

Barack Hussein Obama...RIP?
I have been posting for weeks about Barack Hussein Obama and his background.I even worried that my words would be 'taken down',as they do in congress when someone says something bad.

Obama has ties to Muslims and they are worrisome to me.Farrahkan,Marzook,etc.His friends do matter. Lezco, his realtor friend. Ayers, the terrorist, who he is still friends with.

Michael Barone saying Obama's career started in Ayer's home,is mind-boggling.I have always wondered who was grooming him to be where he is today.Just a few steps away from the leader of the Free World. Now I know.

How could someone with his background have gotten this far? Why are all these reputable people endorsing him? They are liberals,I realize, but do they want to destroy what is left of this country?

Surely, some who have endorsed him will see their mistakes before it is too late and will change their minds.Liberals are between a 'rock and a hard place'.They have two BAD choices.

This election year is depressing. We have three flawed candidates. The two Democrats are poison. The other one is bad medicine, but if he can stop a suicide,I will take him.

I thank Brian Ross and Sean Hannity if they had any influence on the debate this week on ABC.It started the ball rolling on Obama. It's about time.

Leftist
"The left can take control only through deception." Whittaker Chambers.

Wake up, people! Have you read no history? Obama is clearly a man of the radical left. Like Hillary, he began his tutelage under Marxist Saul Alinsky, then moved on to Black Panther-style, Black Liberation theology, which is the philosophy of Mugabe and other corrupt Marxist dictators in Africa. His church requires that the members' loyalty be to their Mother Country of Africa. His church requires that members eschew striving for middle class--total Marxist theory.

His work experience was "community organization." This is an old cold war idea of the 1950's of organizing communist cells, starting in poor neighborhoods. That is how communism is supposed to take hold, by creation of one cell at a time-convince the disaffected and people mired in poverty to adopt communist ideology.

Another relevant quote: A man's character is judged not merely by what emanates from him, but by what he puts up with from others. What man who loves this country and our system of government would put up with more than one Sunday of Reverend Wright?

Oh there you are Chuckles (aka Robert

aka Roberto aka wobbie.)

So, you going to answer my question TODAY???

I've been asking and asking and asking, day after day after day......

Exactly what Navy pilot does "night rounds" in Iraq, and why????

We're ALL waiting for an answer.... Inquiring minds want to know.

Enlighten us.. or entertain us please...

Presidential Election 2008
On October 2, 2002, Barack Obama’s judgment told him that starting a war in Iraq would be a big mistake and he forcefully said so. Much to the contrary later that same month both Senators Hillary Clinton and John McCain voted for funds authorizing President Bush to begin the Iraq war.
When Barack Obama decided to run for president, unlike Hillary Clinton and John McCain, he made the significant decision that he would not accept campaign contributions from lobbyists, special interests, and political action committees for his presidential campaign. It was Barack Obama’s judgment that it would be preferable if the next President of the United States was elected without being beholden to money peddlers in Washington.

Suppose Barack Obama becomes the Democratic nominee for president at the Democratic National Convention in August, and suppose in the November general election the majority of Americans decide to vote for Barack Obama, the presidential candidate who among many other things has refused to accept campaign contributions from special interests, political action committees, and lobbyists but has financed his campaign solely from the contributions of people to whom he is accountable.(Cont)

Presidential Election 2008
Furthermore, suppose this idea of raising money for political campaigns directly from the voters to whom the candidate is accountable sits so well with the American people that they come to expect that future presidential candidates as well as candidates for other offices such for the US Senate and House of Representatives will do as Barack Obama has done. What if candidates who continue to accept campaign contributions from special interests, political action committees, and lobbyists find it increasingly difficult to get elected? Would that help or hurt democracy in America?

That’s the kind of change that Barack Obama represents which concerns so many in Washington who don’t seem very eager for the American people to reclaim their democracy from the influence of special interests, political action committees, and lobbyists, the Washington money peddlers who currently arrange to provide huge amounts of financial support to political candidates whom they believe have a good chance of winning, and whom they can then “work with” later on.
This election is not about whether you happen to be a woman or a man, or whether your father was a black man or a white man, an Asian or a Hispanic. This election is about the future of our country. (Cont.)

Hey Chuckles (aka Robert aka Roberto

aka wobbie) How about you kind of kill two birds with one stone (as they say) and also tell us how a Navy officer gets away with saying such things about our President?

We're ALL waiting!!!!

Presidential Election 2008
We are at a historic moment in America. Barack Obama is a very special candidate for president who can bring about significant changes in Washington and help ordinary Americans begin reclaiming their democracy.
Both the Governor of New Mexico, Bill Richardson, and Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey Jr. know this and have recently endorsed Senator Barack Obama, recognizing Obama’s integrity, intelligence, and the strong leadership he can provide as president.
It is time for voters in Pennsylvania and in all of the other states soon to vote in presidential primary elections to stand up and be counted. It’s time for ordinary Americans to begin the process of reclaiming American democracy by voting for Barack Obama.

Michelle Obama is his equal when it comes to radicals. She whines about her hard life in this country.(Had to repay her student loans, etc.)Poor baby.

She tells young women not to get jobs in the c'
corporate world',but go into the 'service area'.Who does she thinks will finance these workers? Oh,yes,I forgot. The 'wealthiest among us'.That old liberal mantra.

Ms.Obama stayed in her church,lo, these many years. She let her girls listen to this mad dog.If they are as smart as she and her hubby, you know they picked up on the hatred Wright espoused and if not radical now, will be soon.

This family is bad news.It is not too late to say they are not what we need.We can do better.

refatsew is another one who just doesn't

GET IT!

The "changes," such as he's explained so far, are all changes to SOCIALISM! Is that what we want?

I don't think so!

The rest of the changes... well, we don't really know now, do we?

No we do not!

But the only thing we DO know is that he has plans to take this country straight down hill.

The Perfect Obama
This man seems to think that he does nothing wrong and that we should all just go along with him, no matter what he says or does. It will be intersting to see what else comes out about him. He is really naive to think that these things would not be brought out. Or is he just not as smart as he appears to be?

Bob
Whatever anyone does or says since birth up, the left and MSM will hold them accountable...so long as it is a conservative, or even a moderate these days.

You best believe the MSM will grill McCain on why he said the economy wasn't his strong point and now says it is. That will be pertinant to the left. But BS Obuttma's statement that he never heard, publicly or privately, inflamatory comments from Wright, nor did he hear about them, then said he has heard about them but wasn't there, then said yeah he was there but disagreed, is playing unfair to the left and MSM and they want to stick to 'issues' instead.

15+ months and BS still hasn't laid out his plan? Noone knows where he stands? I think it was 'change.' And the left were a-ok with it. That's all they needed to know. Why haven't they asked about the issues before now? Why were the issues not important a month ago? A year ago?

He should just confess!

Ready for Prime Time
George Bush has disappointed conservatives by his willingness to adopt many liberal policies, such as paying for prescription drugs for seniors and winking as millions of illegals crossed the border. He has angered others with his notion that Iraq can become a strong ally and model of democracy in the Middle East. So he's lost support of the right and the left.

All that having been said, he was absolutely ready for prime time--confident, strong, and unwavering. Flashback to the World Series right after 9/11. The nation was in shock. People were afraid to fly, travel, shop, or continue with their normal lives. The VP was sequestered in case there might be an assassination of the President. NYC was a particularly scary place to be. President Bush bravely stepped out onto the baseball field, waved to the crowd, and threw out the first pitch--a blazing pitch that nearly knocked the catcher backwards. He saluted the President, the fans cheered, and all who watch had the sense that life could now go on without fear. The symbolism was awesome. That was Prime Time.

And don't tip over your Jack Daniels bottle.

what others seem to miss is that if the missus oblahma is this great intellectual and lawyer who also covets the good life passed up the opportuinity to fund the good life to take a job making 100 K it says something about her skills as a lawyer and the corporate law firms reluctant to take on someone like her.

It also seems very strange that the missus oblahma's income went from the 100 K range to 300 K once the oblahma became senator. Plus the fact he also directed pork money to the very hospital his wife was working at.

But how many vp's did the same hospital employ at similar salaries. Wasn't the number in excess of 30. Whatever the number it seems those working at that hospital were not in the business of public service so much as latching on top high paying jobs in an industry that we hear is always short on funds. It seems strange a local hospital is paying huge salaries while people who need medical assistance tell stories of being denied help.

Or it the missus oblahma just like the oblahma another product of the corrupt political system chicago is well known for. Those at the top enjoy the cash and those at the bottom gets the crumbs

But wait, how may Navy Capt. PILOTS in Iraq did YOU see doing "night rounds?"

Maybe YOU can shed some light on this since YOU WERE THERE!!!

subject...

Can YOU tell me if you've heard any OFFICER... Navy, Marine, or Army, ever be so disrespectful as to refer to Pres. Bush as "Arbusto?"

Or call someone like Michell Malkin the things that Chuckles (aka Robert, aka Roberto, aka wobbie) calls her every week?

Boutte & Barack sitting in a tree
read the 5:52am post and you will see the kind of people who are attracted to Obama. Losers, whiners, doomers, gloomers and all around sad sacks. Is that something for Obama to be proud of? And, this kind of thinking is going to bring about change and unite us? To be what? Helpless and pathetic? Gee, I can't wait.
Read Sharon's 12:04am post if you want to read a post that is lucid and makes good sense.

This country doesn't need change. What it does need is improvement.

Pull your head out of the sand and do some homework.

Obama has indeed taken money from lobbyists and special interest groups. He also had taken money from big corporations as well.

Did you miss the news this week?

The ABC debate fiery re-enter in reality
To Perry White: "Guilty associations [sic!]"
Yeah, rules a' changin' for Glibama, Glibama complains - welcome back to reality, Hussein!
First thing is, the fuss & conflict over the ABC debate
comes from the wild left, respectively the MoveOn.Org/ HuffPost and other Ayres types people counter-attacking the Hillary Liberation Front - no normal people in either camp, and is caused by media's sycophancy weaning.
Whatever contact with reality Glibama used to have through Michelle, Ayres, Rezko, Wright, Oprah, Ted Kennedy and Larry Sinclair, that was completely pulverized by media adoration of the past one year. No matter what Glibama did, or how he (uniformly) dodged a question, he was perfect, splendid, inspiring and living proof that that this country's (and world's) problems will be solved in no time by Magick Barrack.
But in the moment when media began to be less sycophantic, Barrack, the master mountbank became the arrogant brat that he has always been, frowning, making grimaces "You are wearing me out, sir," - and now the nation has began to see that the "impefection" of the vessel of their hope is actually much worse, he is a fraud, a glib con artist. [Cont'd]

Thanks for reminding us that there was a time when we were proud and united.(almost).Trying to please everyone except your base will come back to bite you.(Think McCain)

G.W.Bush has appointed many people he should have known were not 'up to the job'.He has listened to too many people and taken some wrong advice, instead of doing what was prudent.

That is what worries me about Obama.Who will his advisors be? Not in public, but behind the scenes. Will he be led by radical Muslims, since he seems to be friendly with some of them? Or just would-be terrorists?

The ABC debate, the fiery re-entry (II)
[Cont'd] Further, about Glibama's and his faithful complaining of the "guilt by association" thing - Heavens, we are talking about someone who has applied for the US presidency position, not for a night guard at the public library in Oakland, CA! We need to examine ALL his associates, and seriously so - Ayres, Wright, Rezko connections MUST be scrutinized, thing that hasn't been done in the past, the sell being exclusively of the "The Audacity Of Hope" type.
The US president is the commander in chief of this country's armed forces, is the one who sets and approves this country's foreign policy, the one who is the symbol for this country and in these qualities meets countless foreign leaders and represents the qualities and fortitude of America - the one who pleasantly sat listening the to "God damn' America!" kind of screeds he did is not qualified for the job of meeting foreign leaders under the American flag, marines as background.
Hussein, when Chicago will get tired of you, go to Oakland - see, there still is hope for one of your talents.

Wow! That was quite the diatribe!

One thing I know for sure is that you have no idea what third world living conditions and medicine are like.

What I find hilarious is your leftist candidates want more of all those things you ranted and railed about.

Cop a clue.

BAD ACTOR
Barack Obama reminds me of an actor on a static stage reciting all lines perfectly until something or someone moves.

COWERING OBAMA
Thank you ABC for letting Charlie and George finally expose this phony Marxist/socialist. Not protected by his pre-written monitor statements, he proved to us all that he has no balls to run our country, let alone be a Senator!
Ours is a country founded on principal for government by the people, and the Democrat people, along with the mainstream media have produced three tainted and unqualified candidates, with two of them being prolific liars, and three of them amnesty loving jerks! Thanks to the Dumbocrats for always getting caught up in rhetoric with no substance, just like they did with the Clinton's, we have these two losers. Now their love fest for the Clinton's no longer exist,as they are looking for their socialist "Saviour" to spread America's hard working citizens dollars
to pay for their health care, education, housing and welfare checks so they can sit home in their government paid housing with their government purchased computer and spew ignorant statements of hate about a country who literally wipes their butts when they get up each morning.

Come to think of it, just last week Chuckles (aka Robert, aka Roberto, aka wobbie) talked about seeing a movie with WonderWomen, and putting the "kids" to bed.... Does he have his 'family' with him...????

Obviously, he can't possibly be in Iraq as he'd like us to believe...

Radioactive by November
"...[the] autobiographical "Dreams From My Father" ...is a story not of transcending racial barriers but of developing a black and African identity."

Well said, Mr. Barone. In forming his identity, it's as if Obama deliberately sought out the most racially divisive and rabidly anti-American whack-jobs he could find, and then befriend or marry them. These horrible choices are not ones made by a unifier, but a divider.

Each new revelation about Obama makes the Geiger-counter needle bounce a little crazier. By November, I predict he will be radioactive to most voters. He might even qualify for super-fund cleanup status -- an honor bestowed only the most hazardous waste sites.

Obama's incredible arrogance
obama whining the day after the debates was hilarious. He actually had the balls to complain that the moderators didn't get into substantive questions until 45 minutes into the debate. Instead they wasted time asking questions relevant to (lack of)judgment, (lack of) fealty to THIS country (and not Africa), and (lack of)identity to the majority of Americans. Soooooo, basically he said what matters a great deal to most Americans just isn't important. Yes we can (be an arrogant SOB)!
