GOP Seems Poised for Complete Housecleaning

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I've seen this happen once or twice: a complete meltdown of the Republican Party. It starts as an uphill year looking tougher by the day. It ends like a load of bricks falling on the GOP's head.

There's one word that describes the reason for the rubble that likely will be on the Republicans' heads come Nov. 4 -- arrogance.

The fish rots from the head. And I'm not talking about the well-intentioned John McCain, this year's winner of the "Bob Dole Sacrificial Lamb" award. (Dole was allowed by his major party mates to go quietly into that good night in the 1996 presidential election against Bill Clinton.)

Instead I mean George W. Bush, and more importantly, those who served his administration by cajoling, misleading and betraying him. They transformed him into what came to look like a cocky buffoon. They encouraged a good man to self-destruct.

Now Bush has been abandoned by these hacks. He's left to confront a major monetary crisis and the remnants of a war. They built him up and let the world tear him apart as his own hubris blinded him to the facts of the situation.

Left behind is an amateurish House of Representatives, whose silly minority conference appears not only out of sync with their presidential candidate, but with reality. Get a grip, guys: You may get reelected because no one had the sense to take you on, but you are as out-of-step as the Democrats you fought so hard to replace just 14 years ago.

Then there's the Senate. It would be hard to find a collection of folks more suited for silk slippers and ermine robes. Yes, senators were often prima donnas in my Senate staff years of the 1980s. (Fortunately, my boss wasn't one of them.) And Democrats then could be just as bad. A more bizarre and imperious creature than Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia was impossible to find back then.

Conservatives today are frustrated that America appears ready to elect an untested and liberal newcomer, Barack Obama; and to do it with issues still looming about his past political beliefs and associations.

Voters aren't rejecting conservative values this year. They just don't know what they are. All they know is that they can't stand the inarticulate, pompous bunch that now speaks for and represents the Republican and conservative causes.

Although McCain has more experience in his little pinky than Obama does in his whole body, McCain likely never had a prayer this year. Most of this humdrum bunch of Republican elected officials never liked him much in the first place. Moreover, because of a basic inability to develop a message that would truly resonate with the public, McCain has been successfully portrayed as the third version of George W. Bush.

I've told readers before that in 1980, the national Republican establishment despised Ronald Reagan. But I've neglected to point out that until he and Jimmy Carter debated on national television rather late in the campaign, Carter was leading in most polls by nearly double digits.

What changed so quickly? It was simple. Republicans and swing-voting Democrats and Independents watched the debate and heard a man, Reagan, with a new message; one that they could see that he really believed in. They knew somehow he was a man on a mission -- a mission for them, not for himself.

What will the Republican Parry need to do if Nov. 4 turns into the sort of repudiation that puts comedians like Al Franken in the U.S. Senate and gives so-called "Red States" over to Barack Obama?

Clean house. Every last Republican elected official should consider whether they have stayed in politics so long as to become a mirror of what they sought to replace. Fresh, new candidates will have to find the courage to challenge Republican incumbents in primaries, with the hope being that the dinosaurs of the party won't have the energy to fight for another in a long succession of terms of elected positions.

Sarah Palin may have been a mistake as far as giving an already edgy electorate the idea that the Republicans could not provide effective leadership in the tough times to come. But make no mistake: Palin and the many others like her who have yet to emerge are the future of the GOP. It's not Palin's ideology that energizes the party and captivates the interest of the rest of the nation. It's her humanity.

Let the house of cards collapse. Torch the gilded thrones. Let the Potomac Fever break into a cold sweat. Then the GOP can rebuild its whole party. Trust me, nothing can be more fun or rewarding than having a cause greater than one's own personal political greed.

The Cynical SJ Doc
And what if, instead of the religious idiots, the religious smart ones weigh in? Seems to me they took a break a few years back and are not to be found. When they come back, will you be singing their praises or will you extend your anti-religious "bigotry" to all, equally?

So open-minded, these libs. So tolerant.

They buzz so because the religious actually have a faith in something other than The State, and that, my friends, is a threat.

Just ask Fidel. Or Lenin.

As to the house cleaning, gosh, that would be nice. The price is high - Dem control for at least a couple of years as their lifers go unchallenged. But it strikes me as another of those "vote the bums out" quixotic ventures. Which is too bad, really.

Steve - On their ''anti-choice'' stance
--
Taking the lesser-of-two-evils line of argument, Steve attempts bravely to make the case for the Republican Party (cleansed of "Liberal" compromisers like the sacrificial ox being offered up as the GOP's presidential candidate on November 4th) as the seedbed of redemption for America, objecting only to the fiscal conservatives lack of "a pro-choice stance."

Steve, consider something for a moment.

What happens if the religious idiots - that is to say, the "social" pseudoconservatives - get their way and voluntary interruption of pregnancy (VIP) is criminalized?

Can you say "pregnancy police"?

In order to enforce statute law designed to prohibit VIP, a network of surveillance (probably under the Department of Homeland Security - *der Heimatsicherheitsdienst* or "HSD" in Nazispeak) will be required to undertake pregnancy screening for all American females between menarche and menopause, with urine tests at gunpoint, monitoring anklets, random stops at airports and border crossings....

(( Hm. If you think strip searches are an excessive and unconstitutional invasion of your rights, wait until some half-trained HSD goon puts your wife and your daughter up in the stirrups for a vaginal/uterine cavity search. ))

Moreover, government-licensed health care providers - fearful of losing their ability to practice their professions as the result of government investigations and punishment - will increasingly refuse to care for women of childbearing age.

(( We're already seeing that as the result of the tort law (malpractice) environment in this country. ))

It is safe to predict that this "pregnancy police" function will not only create a thriving black market in abortion services but pretty much destroy prenatal care in these United States.

Do you really think that the "social" pseudoconservative fascists can really pull this off?

--

GOP contains the seeds of redemption

I don't disagree with the premise of the article, but I do view current House GOP members such as Pence, Flake, Garrett, the lady from North Carolina, etc. etc., even Boehner as forming the nucleus of where we (the GOP) should be headed. Their views seem very close to the Contract with America. I'd prefer a pro-choice stance, but I can't have everything.

Ignore MSM and Polls--Vote REpublican
The MSM media has no more credibility than does the Democrat Party and their Hand Picked Hand Puppet Obama. They are doing everything they can to Steal this election and hand us over to Socialism which would be complete should we Americans be foolish enought to elect this Questionable Candidate, Barack Obama. With a packed congress of Socialists such as Pelosi and Frank and others and a Puppet of theirs, Obama, every piece of legislation that the Marxists are sitting on would be rushed through congress and handed over to their Puppet, Obama to sign into laws. Things like taking away all State's Rights guaranteed by the Constitution, such as eradicating all state laws that put any limits on Abortion, such as Parent Notification for minors. Obama and the Liberal Democrats do not think that parents have any rights over their own children's lives. They want all the Children to Belong to the State. Things like the so-called Fairness Doctrine, which would end free speech on radio talk shows. Things like Abolishing The Right To Own Guns, a second amendment guarantee that we have so that we can defend ourselves from Thugs and Despots. Things like destroying the military and spending the monies now being spent on defense to fund UN initiatives such as World Welfare and expanding American Welfare to Illegal Aliens and others. Also, this Marxist Congress with a Marxist President would pack the courts with Marxist Judges, and the end of American Democracy with Checks and Balances as is our tradition and Right.

Better wake up America, An Obama Presidency is a Clear and Pesent Danger to our National Sovereignty and individual freedoms.

LC - And I was born in Baltimore...

...a few blocks from Hollins Street. I know Maryland's politics, too.

What spasm of psychosis gives you to believe that I was in any way supportive of Corzine's choice of Robert Menendez to replace our gubernatorial putz's pratt in his Senate seat back in 2006?

Or to focus upon that socialist schmuck in this thread? How the hell is *HE* pertinent to this discussion?

Have I been to Iraq or Afghanistan - or Lichtenstein or Botswana or the Federated States of Micronesia, for that matter - at any time?

Nope. And would you explain how that's pertinent, either?

Have you ever been examined by two licensed medical practitioners in an assessment of your status as an immediate hazard to yourself or others?

You go right ahead and do your "voting for John McCain."

You'll be as much a waste on November 4th as you are right now.

I was born in Millville! I know all about Jersey politics! And the idiocy of it does not belong to North Jersey alone!

You sir are a faux intellectual. You survey the problem, get up on your high horse, and TALK it to death! That accomplishes NOTHING!

Sen. Robert Menendez dances to the tune of the Queen of hearts(Nancy Pelosi) and the Mad Hatter(Harry Reid). He knows NOTHING about the threat of islamofascism. He wants to sing KUMBIYAH with every illegal that crosses our border, AND give them health care and free college tuition to boot. He does not care that some of those illegals take a very circuitious route to get here across the border we share with Mexico. Some of thoose illegals cross with their prayer rug under one arm and the Koran under the other. He cares not one whit! What are you doing about that "True Conservative" SJ Doc?Absolutely NOTHING I am sure!

you have no idea of anything. You can talk to me when you have also walked the walk! have you been to Iraq? Have you been to Afghanistan? No...,I am sure that you have not. You don't have the cajones!

I have . I know the dangers a Barry Dunham presidency will be to this nation.

so I say again....,I am voting for John McCain.I really do not care what you do. But I do wish that you would just shut up!

GOP Housecleaning
Good Afternoon Mr. Towery,

I'll give you this, you certainly do know how to write a thought provoking article.

As for the elite media already having successfully elected BHO the 44th PODUS-uh, my calendar says it's Oct. 24 and the election doesn't happen for another 11 days, that's Nov. 4th. And new polling shows this race is neck-and-neck. So, let's not be so fast to throw in the towel.

Your other observations about the state of the Republican Party and the Washington Insider treatment of George W. Bush are more than on-target. They score a bullseye.

Bush 43's second term is, to say the least a mear shadow of his first and I believe much of it has to do with his failure to clean out the Clinton appointments from throughout the bureaucracy. They had no loyalty to Mr. Bush and did not share either his vision nor his values. Consequently, it isn't surprising that these people worked to obstruct and obfuscate "W's" goals and intentions. Finally, when the Democrats took control of Congress in '06, the Bush era hit a chasm too far to bridge.

Outside of the White House and Washington, you are correct--too many potentially well-qualified Republican candidates are sitting on the sidelines and let highly motivated, but barely competent Republican patriots fight the battles in the trenches. It's time for the comfortable to get out and get their hands dirty. Neither democracy, nor politics is a spectator sport.

Thank you for writing such a well thought out piece, but let's not concede the election just yet. It might be a good idea to see how the ballots add up first.

SEOhio - Perfection?
--
Sure, we must "...do a better job of establishing our expectations for our elected leaders," but the problem is still that they don't so much pursue "grand schemes" as they respond to special interests, organized and inimical to government under rule of law.

It's not that "perfection" is required, but that we need elected officials and true conservative leaders who - like Goldwater and Reagan and Paul - are willing to articulate a philosophy of freedom, devise policies toward attaining and sustaining that objective, and keep on hammering that message home.

No more of this "bipartisanship." No more reaching across the nave to that pack of knaves masquerading as "Democrat" politicians when every damned one of us knows that the proper name for their conspiracy is the National Socialist Party.

No more "to get along, go along," gaining a false concession today for yet another scrap of the American soul tomorrow, leaving this nation ever more impoverished, ever more helpless, ever more enslaved with every grind of the election cycle.

Would you really mind if the Republican Party demanded that every act of legislation *MUST* inlude a clause in which its sponsors cite the section of the U.S. Constitution under which it is putatively authorized>?

And then refused to allow it to come to a vote, or be passed with a single Republican vote, or finally be shoved down the public's collective throat absent loud and consistent advisement that it is UN-constitutional for *this* reason and *that* reason, and will rape the private citizen unlawfully *thus* and *so*?

Call it the "Joe the Plumber" strategy.

Would you think this "doomed"?

FAR LEFT LIBERAL MEDIA STEALING ELECTION

One thing is for certain and believe me its the talk around the dinner table throughout America about the vicious and never ending assault on Sarah Palin and to a lesser extent John McCain.

From Andrea Mitchell to Campbell Brown and Chris Matthews and even Rick Sanchez. The assaults have gotten nasty and vicious and those who claim to be Conservatives like Peggy Noonan and Kathleen Parker are right in there helping the Far Left out.

So, whats the fuss all about????? Its Sarah Palin holding up her son with Downs Syndrome and the fact that she and her husband descided to keep the baby rather than throw him in a dumpster or conveniently abort him with the help of some abortion clinic or pill popping Pharmaceutical company. These folks hate and I do mean HATE.....the idea and even the remote possibility that someone like Sarah Palin could even come close to becoming Vice-President let alone President.

IN SHORT, THEY ARE SCARED AS HELL OF SARAH PALIN!!! WHY??? Because she helps to remind them that there are bigger things than SELF, GREED, MONEY, AND EVEN POWER!!! THE PROBLEM IS THAT SHE REMINDS THEM OF HOW SHALLOW THEIR HEDONISTIC WORLD IS AND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOOKING DOWN AT THE GROUND AND SEEING ONLY DIRT AND MUD AND DENYING THAT THERE IS SOMETHING BIGGER AND BETTER WHEN WE RAISE OUR HEADS AND LOOK INTO THE HEAVENS TO SEE THE SUN, THE MOON AND THE STARS AND TO IN ESSENCE TOUCH THE FACE OF GOD. THE SO CALLED INTELLECTUALS ARE SO WRAPPED UP IN THEMSELVES THAT THEY DENY THIS HOPE, THE VISION AND THIS BRIGHT SHINING CITY ON A HILL THAT HAS FOR SO LONG ELUDED THEM AND YET THEY STILL SIT IN THEIR IVORY TOWERS CONTEMPLATING PLATO ONLY TO CONTINUE TO INTELLECTUALIZE WHAT HAS FOREVER ELUDED THEM AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO.

THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD THE CALLING OR HEEDED THE CALL TO BELIEVE IN SOMETHING BIGGER THAN SELF!!

A political party that requires ...
perfection on the the part of its elected officials is doomed. No normal person wants to run for elected office, so the best we can hope for is to choose the least bad apple from a very putrid barrel.

Instead, we need to do a better job of establishing our expectations for our elected leaders so they are averse to pursuing the grand schemes that have contributed so heavily to the political disaster that is the Bush presidency.

LC - From the depths of Maryland
--
...we get a guy calling out from his bucket of cement:

"I am voting for John McCain."

Oh, goodie. And this is the political expert who's mocking *ME* about how I have to live in a state dominated by all those friggin' Mets fans up in National Socialist North Jersey.

Little word on your dedication to: "voting for John McCain," LC.

The tyrant's heel is on thy shore, and the rest of his foot is already halfway up your personal butt.

Maryland is *NOT* one of the "Battleground States," kiddo. Alan Keyes has a better chance of carrying the Old Line State than does Crash Test Johnnie.

So you're "...a person who has enough common sense NOT to cut off [your] nose to spite [your] face," eh?

And you're going to go into the voting booth on November 4th and cast a ballot that's worth less than used toilet paper....

Hoo, boy. Yeah, you really are "...an AMERICAN voter."

So "pragmatic."

Just the kind of perfect putz the un-housecleaned Rockefeller Republicans have been counting upon for the past half-a-century and more.

That can be mended. If you don't know what a true American conservative is, try reading just the final essay in Nobel laureate F.A. Hayek's *The Constitution of Liberty* (1960), available online at:

http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig6/hayek1.html

In these United States, we're fortunate. Our brand of "conservatism" is the political philosophy of the American Revolution

--

Matt Towwery
or whatever his name is, is a blithering idiot much like Peggy Noonan and Daffy Kathy Parker.

Matt has it wrong.
The public, thanks to media propaganda, is blaming the GOP for the financial crisis when it is really the Demos who brought it on: Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and Chuck Schumer. Good GOPers do not deserve to be kicked out. McCain is a fighter - he is no sacrificial lamb.

Two areas of political theory
The two areas of political theory where the GOP lost its slim majority were spending and amnesty.

Bush's belief that government should be for everyone translated into a belief that government must give something to everyone. Bush's strategy was to pay for increases in entitlement spending and the War on Terror with the increased revenuse from the tax cuts. As recently as last Spring Bush announced that the budget would be balanced by 2010 at our current rate of economic growth.

But Bush didn't consider a slowdown. He also didn't consider losing the majority in Congress to the left. If he had he would never have risked his slim majority by pushing for amnesty. He even insulted those of us opposed to it by calling us bigots.

And where was McCain? After all of the times previously that he had stuck it in Bush's back, here was McCain WRITING the amnesty bill and calling us "nativists" for opposing it.

And then the imperial RNC shoves McCain down our throats as the nominee. If I had a genuine conservative piece of legislation for every phone call I've gotten from the RNC, GOP, NRCC, or NSCC asking for money to keep Obama out of the WH (instead of promoting the sad sack McCain) I might have some reason to believe in the GOP.

Save your spin Towery. Weenie moderates are the only problem the GOP has. Sarah Palin a mistake? She's the only thing the GOP has gotten right since Bush beat Kerry!

Baseball and Jim
Baseball:

I have brown eyes though and saying I was proud I was an American makes just about as much sense.

Jim:

If Obama wins there will be no riots. The middle class don't riot. Did they riot when OJ was found not guilty or the Rodney King cops were railroaded into a civil rights violation conviction? No. Who riots? The blacks do. Watts, Rodney King, etc.

If Obama losses, they will claim he was robbed by the man and they will riot, loot, rape and burn and stab, beat, murder any hapless white that crosses their path and probably go after other groups they have issues with--like Koreans (and those that the idiots think are Koreans) and Hispanics.

MoniQue
So he was born in Kenya? IS there a FS-240 out there? Was Obama's mom not eligible to transfer citizenship due to not meeting the 5 years since 14 requirement? She could then still bring him to the US as an alien child and then have him naturalized. Any evidence of this? How about Obama's passport file or his Mom's? Any evidence of him arriving in the US when he was an infant or his mom entering the US around August 1961? No? Any evidence of her entering or leaving Kenya in 1961 or Obama leaving Kenya in 1961? No? Why not? Did Obama enter the US as an illegal alien? How? Not very easy to illegally enter the US from Kenya. Almost all Kenyans that do enter the US and become illegals enter the US legally and overstay their visas. Kenya to the US is a long swim.

What's that sound I hear? Oh an invisible black UN helicopter flown by Elvis, because this Obama born in Kenya crap is about as credible as that.

MoniQue
Produce the recording and then provide proof that it is real--that meaning you have a number of witnesses that she actually said this.

Otherwise, it is still total BS.

There isn't even proof his mother was actually in Kenya--ever before Obama was born. As for the requirement, the Constitution simply states the candidate has to be a "a natural born citizen," well actually people born to Americans outside the US are natural born Americans. I expect at some point a person born outside the US as an American will sue to have the court decide what this actually means. As for as that goes, that part of the Constitution should be scrapped. Are you telling me that Elaine Chau (Chau Hsiao-lan) shouldn't be able to run? She is currently the Secretary of Labor, married to the Senate minority leader and has lived in the US since she was 8. Is her loyality in question? Senator Hatch has proposed in the past a Constitutional Amendment that would allow any American who has lived in the US for 20 years to be able to run for presidnet, people like Chau and Arnold, etc.

Catfish
"That gave us an abandonded Afghanistan..."

The US left when it had accomplished its goals which was the defeat of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan. When the Soviets left there was simply no reason to stay engaged. The goals were not to turn Afghanistan into a modern democracy. As for OBL, how many chances did Clinton have to have OBL turned over to the US or simply killing him outright?

SJ Doc
Wow! This is incredible! A true conservative living in the Dem. political swamp of N.J.! How's that Senator Menendez workin' out for ya?

I never said I was a true conservative, whatever THAT is.

I am an AMERICAN voter. I want what is best for my country. I am pragmatic enough to understand that a Barry Dunham presidency will be disasterous.

I did look in the mirror. What I saw was a person who has enough common sense NOT to cut off my nose to spite my face.

I am voting for John McCain.

REAGAN
yes, the tide did change for Reagan after Atwater stole and paid $50k (in 1979$'s)for Carters debate book. A pro actor had no problem remembering the lines and how to deliver them!
That gave us an abandonded Afghanistan that allowed Osama to build and a budding relationship w/Saddam and a worse relationship with Iran who is now going nuclear.
The world demands Obama leadership, no more McClones!

LC - On timing
--
LC grumbles:

"Gee...,what a great time to get excited about a Republican housecleaning."

Hunh. If you're a real conservative, the "excitement about a Republican housecleaning" has been your working mode since Dubbya captured the GOP nomination in 2000.

Every honest-to-Hayek American conservative has been pounding away at that message since Reagan left office.

And *NONE* of you pure, dead-from-the-neck-up reflexive Republican butt-monkeys have listened, have you?

LC, this is not a new or ill-timed message.

This is the message you've been ignoring like a man with his head in a bucket of cement since at least this time last year, when us genuine conservatives started cranking up the volume.

And now you're watching your favorite political party about to get run over like a puppy in a truck stop.

Y'wanna know whose fault this is?

Get to a mirror, make sure the light is on, and take a real, long, thorough look.

"In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for. As for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican."

Take a deep breath Mr Towery!
The election has not been held yet. You sound like the main stream media got inside your head. America’s center right conservative voters will come to their senses in time to defeat Chairman Mao-Bama and Michele.

I agree with you that "W" has been duped by his closest advisers including that Democrat weasel Henry Paulson and his Wall Street associates. Paulson has screwed up this economy better than Paul Volker ever dreamed.

Chin up Matt Towery. The election is yet to come.

The Engineer
Let's ALL vote for Bob Barr! How BRILLIANT!That way we can GUARANTEE a Barry Dunham presidency..., AND a Dem. super majority in Congress!

You have GOT to be kidding!

What?
Gee...,what a great time to get excited about a Republican housecleaning.Mr. Towery you are literally so lost in the forest you cannot see ANYTHING...,let alone a tree!

The Dems. under the leadership of the Queen of Hearts in the House and The Mad Hatter in the Senate are far worse than any Republican strutting the hallowed halls in ermine robes.

If there is a Dem. supermajority the military will once again be decimated.

Supreme Court judges who make Ginsberg and Kennedy look conservative will be appointed.

Illegal immigration will be the norm.

And yes....,Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Quaeda, and other Islamofascists groups cannot wait for your "Republican housecleaning" to take place!

Your defeatist article has the tone of some masochistic self fulfilling prophecy. You may as well don a HOPE and CHANGE button and send in a cash contribution to Barry Dunham. He has run one of the sleaziest, dirtiest Presidential campaigns I have ever witnessed! And your concern is the arrogance of Republicans? Aaaaak!!!!

Solid Column
I've been a member of TownHall for years and this is the best damn column I have ever read here.

-"Voters aren't rejecting conservative values this year. They just don't know what they are. All they know is that they can't stand the inarticulate, pompous bunch that now speaks for and represents the Republican and conservative causes"

-"Instead I mean George W. Bush, and more importantly, those who served his administration by cajoling, misleading and betraying him. They transformed him into what came to look like a cocky buffoon. They encouraged a good man to self-destruct."

We can get defensive, and never change. That'll be another 40 years in the wilderness like the pre-1994 period. Or we can be honest with ourselves if we want to ever rebuild. Its not going to be quick either.

MoniQue - Oh, wonderful

So if Mocha Marvin gets his pseudoschvoogie tochus elected and the truth gets out about his disqualifying status as having not really been born in these United States or one of the U.S.-administered territories (like Crash Test Johnnie), then we get Copycat Joe for president.

Anyone advocating Barr is a troll
A vote for Barr is a vote for Obama.

Anybody stating (like TheEngineer) that "Mccain can't win" so it's okay to vote for Barr who can't win is an Obama supporter.

Perot made Bush lose in '92. THose advocating Barr would no doubt like to see Mccain lose in '08. Mccain can win. He needs every vote.

Mccain was not my first choice either, but he is our only hope of slowing the rapid descent to socialism that the MSM/Pelosi/Reid trifecta wants to foist on us.

Mac More - The Super Bowl...

...is just a once-a-year football game.

Bad analogy, believe me.

Your call for deferring to "Off Season Rebuilding," however, is precisely how we got into a situation where, despite your claim that:

"Only two viable candidates are left standing,"

...we have been left without *ANY* viable candidate on the Republican ticket.

John McCain is *not* viable. He never was. He was never *INTENDED* to be.

As Mr. Towery observed, the Rockefeller Republican leadership of the GOP was determined to "do a Dole" and concede the presidency to their fellow socialists of the nominally opposing party in a "bipartisan" gesture of professional courtesy.

Perhaps they wanted to get out from under the unspeakable dungstorm that's coming down on the nation as first the financial sector and then every capital-dependent enterprise in the nation and the world is caught up on the mammoth economic decompensation that the conjoint "Boot-On-Your-Neck" Party's policies and actions have made absolutely inescapable.

They want the axe to fall on Hussein the Hubshi's scrawny neck, and thus they've shafted you with a presidential candidate who is less "viable" than the corpse that John Ashcroft lost to in 2000.

Are you getting this? The Rockefeller Republicans *OWNED* you in this election cycle, Mac. They have bent you over, applied the Vaseline, and the next sound you hear is going to be "Trust me, this is for your own good."

The "Off Season Rebuilding" is in their hands, and always will be.

To their plan, not yours.

And if you keep on doing as you've always done, you're going to keep on getting what you've always gotten.

"Pick [their] side," and you've been suckered again.

Rowly - Oh, ye of little faith

Or conviction, for that matter.

Writes Rowly:

"I know of no Republican, especially a conservative, who could withstand the onslought of the negativity of the media of today."

Is the Republican Party truly conservative, Rowly? Has it ever been? Are you old enough to recall how the Rockefeller Republican "establishment" used every dirty trick in the book to marginalize and destroy Barry Goldwater *AND* Ronald Reagan *AND* Ron Paul?

Honestly, Rowly, I don't think you know any conservatives in the Republican Party at all.

No real ones, if you can say that you know of none "...who could withstand the onslought of the negativity of the media of today."

Real American conservatives are people of principle, and the chattering "root weevils" -

(( gotta love that line out of *The Right Stuff* ))

- of the MSM make abso-goddam-lutely no impression on us whatsoever.

You want to get to know conservatives who hold hard to their principles, and aren't run off when the GOP shafts this nation by nominating an underfueled, disarmed kamikaze like Crash Test Johnnie?

Do *NOT* look among your erstwhile buddies in the GOP.

Thanks to Nixon - good old EPA, OSHA, peacetime-wage-and-price-controls, "I'm closing the gold window," inflationist Richard Milhouse - we all left that nest of rabid rats in 1972.

Until the Republican Party gets a flamethrower taken to it, you don't belong there, either.

House Cleaning - Congress
The proper time to do GOP House cleaning is in the Primaries. Not in the General Election. If more people would vote in Primary Elections, more pols would seek the GOP's nomination through that process. Thus keeping GOP house cleaning in the family. Far far too many people don't bother to vote in Primary Elections. That's why the Party officers get away with picking unpopular and unsatisfactory candidates. Let the Republican people pick their own candidates.

Vote Republican Or Accept Socialism
Rowly offers, "Matt,go sit in the corner with Noonan and Parker. Reading this column was like rubbing salt in a wound. The race is not over yet."

Agreed.

Even with twice as much spending and phenominal amount of Main Stream Media support, Obama is nearly neck-and-neck with McCain/Palin.

The Democratic party, as always, is buying votes, rob Peter(5% of Americans) to pay Paul (95% of Americans), yet cannot distance themselves from the Republicans that offer only less Government and no money.

That says a lot about America. I am betting on America. I am voting Republican - McCain / Palin.

McCain Or Obama -- Or Be A Spectator
SJ Doc offers, "install strict constitutionalists and true financial conseratives."

Good advice for Off Season Rebuilding.

However, we are in the Super Bowl of Politics. Only two viable candidates are left standing. Pick a side, or stand aside.

I am voting Republican.

Another Turncoat
Matt,go sit in the corner with Noonan and Parker. Reading this column was like rubbing salt in a wound. The race is not over yet.

I know of no Republican, especially a conservative, who could withstand the onslought of the negativity of the media of today. Every news show on every tv channel.Except Fox. 24/7.

They would try to ruin Jesus if he came down to straighten out the mess the country is in today. His hair would be too long. Not born in the right place.Wears long robes.Walks everywhere.

There has never been such a campaign against decent people as has been waged against Sarah Palin. It is despicable. They would do it to anyone who was a threat to them and their plans for a socialist government.

Good. So I take it you supported the only Republican in the presidential primaries who explicitly articulated and ran on the Republican Party platform?

That "kook" -

(( who looks pretty goddam much like a genius right now as the financial market melts down into slag courtesy of the Federal Reserve's shove-it-up-another-notch inflation ))

- Ron Paul, right?

If there's a future for the GOP, you and every other reader on this Web site needs to take a Kaiser blade to the Rockefeller Republicans and keep slashing until all you can see are bloody gobbets and broken bone.

And in their place you need to install strict constitutionalists and true financial conseratives.

Ron Paul is your prototype. Clone him however you can, and then let's re-sharpen the blade and go hunting socialists.

Wealth is Infinite-No NeedToRedistribute
SteveL offers, " we can now see that the SEC should have had better regulation of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the heavy use of derivatives by private companies."

I agree on the Fannie and Freddie thing. They should be spun back to the private sector. When the Government moves from being a referee of the free market to being both a player and referee, we move from a Democracy to a Dictatorship in fact.

As to derivatives, they work exceptionally well in smoothing volatility. But, since Americans, educated by Public Schools for too many generations, are completely ignorant of their mechanics, we tend to demogogue their contibution.

Do you know of any Public School that teaches making change, much less economics as a requirement? Heck, Public schools teach us how to put on or use condoms, how to join race-based social groups, but making change, that's too radical!

So, now we pay the price. Most products of our Public Schools actually think Government creates wealth, not the private sector. So, redistribution of wealth, for far too many Americans seems like a pretty good idea.

We are on the brink of moving wealth (read: power) from the private sector to the Government. Redistribution of Wealth assumes that wealth is finite and the Government should control it. This is stone age thinking.

Wealth is infinite. But, instead of telling Americans to go out and create/make your own wealth, Obama says simply take it from someone else.

Scary stuff.

renny - You're posting from New Jersey..

...and you're batsh!t enough to scream:

"A vote for Barr is a vote for Obama..."

...like you expect *ANY* vote you cast against Mocha Marvin on November 4th to count?

Hm. Is there a town in the Garden State called "Fantasyland"? What's its ZIP Code? Same as Grover's Mill?

Well, I figured as much.

Look, renny, let me explain to you about a thing called the Electoral College and how all those friggin' Mets fans in North Jersey vote the straight National Socialist ticket in *exactly* the same way - and for the same reason - that a dog returns to its vomit.

All 15 of New Jersey's electoral votes are going to be cast for the Mulatto Miracle on December 15th no matter *WHAT* you do or *HOW* you waste your piddlin' little personal vote.

You might as well go into that voting booth, whip out your mighty prong, and abuse yourself to the point of ejaculation all over the machine as cast your ballot for Crash Test Johnnie.

That's how "democracy" works in the Garden State, renny.

So vote for Bob Barr -

(( it's called a "protest vote," and you do it for precisely the same reason that you protest when you're getting raped by Corzine and his fellow gang-bangers, 'cause if you don't protest, everyone assumes that you're a consenting participant ))

- or whoever you damned please.

But your vote for The Enemy Ace just tells those Rockefeller Republicans what they want to hear.

"Hm. Even though we lost, look at how we still *OWN* those stupid, knee-jerk sonzabitches!"

Fake American
You're right. We really need a candidate who's genuine and sticks to her values. Oh... wait:

Interviewer: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?

Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

Good luck in 2012 with the hispanic population growing while Guns, God and Gays Evangicals become smaller and decreasingly relevant.

Even Sarah Palin is embarrassed by the wacko Republican base!!

The GOP is now a third party
The GOP is now a third party, too. As McCain can't win, no one has an excuse to not vote their conscience.

I'll vote for Bob Barr before wasting my vote on big government McCain.

Rebuild even without the devastation
When John McCain was selected as the Republican Presidential candidate, I resolved myself to work for his election but to also work to replace any Republican that did not represent my conservative values. This would trickle down through the Senate, House and state congressional bodies.
When compared to Obama, Senator McCain is a conservative as Reagan. He will get my vote this election but who knows about the next.
Governor Palin will be a force in the party. but who will she team with to provide some leadership in the conservative movement?
Who knows.
Go vote Republican this election and then find those conservatives that really represent us.

To the Insane Black Prince
Your post about guns and the woman with the "B' carved into her forehead is just utter insanity!

The so-called incident didn't even result in the woman going to seek any kind of medical care - it just DIDN'T HAPPEN.

This is the kind of lunacy that is being rejected by the American people and resulting in the GOP being tossed aside.

Put down that pint of whiskey, sober up and get a grip. There is not going to be rioting or people shooting each other unless lunatics like you start it.

Try, for a change, to keep your self-dignity and learn something as this process unfolds. The GOP failed on many levels. They will rise again a better, stronger party much closer and truer to their ideals.

Unless nutcakes totally take over.

Wendy - Good Points!
Wendy offers, "Bush got himself into trouble because he accepted and implemented collectivism, pure and simple, no question about it."

I agree.

However, a big contributor to Bush's seeming "acceptance" of Left issues was his unfortunate luck of being on watch when the most vile attack on America's soveriegnty was dispatched on 9/11.

That, combined with a Republican Congress, drunk with new found elitist ranking, that could not control their power to spend, put America on a track for bad stewardship.

When 9/11 hit, Democrats were on board, but soon learned that Bush, thereby the Republicans, was taking all of the political oxygen and leaving them as the "towel boys" to the players. Such things could be good for America, but bad for votes.

It did not take the Democrats long to realize that they could ransom the financing of the wars for politcal gain. Every time Bush needed financing, the Democrats managed to squeeze more of their domestic agenda into place. If Bush fought back, he exposed American blood and shores to the enemy. He made the right choice, America is safe and sound. However, domestically, our finances are in a tailspin.

The point of the column
is solid, with maybe a couple of variances.

The main point is that Regardless who wins in November there needs to be a GOP house cleaning. Period. If the RINO's (how I hate that words since the majority of the GOP leadership really cant be described as Conservative) are so enamored with the Dem party ideas then I am sure they will welcome you. The time for 'me too Republicanism' needs to end now. Even if it has been around since FDR. (Reagan was not the first just the most recent. Thank you Taft/Goldwater)

This is not to say that you shouldnt vote your Conscience or Principles. Also doesnt mean Conservatives who dont automatically vote for McCain are somehow traitorous. There is also something good about looking at the big picture/long view. There is a Major problem in the GOP. There is a battle that needs to be had. Who will guide the parties destiny. The Taft/Goldwater/Reagan Conservatives or the Rockefeller/Bush/McCain liberals/moderates.

The whole 'let the Dems run everything and screw things up that will show America' doesnt really work. I heard it in 1992 and 1996. Sorry not buying it. When actions there are always consequences. Time for the Repub party to learn that painful yet valuable lesson.

P.S. We are quite capable of handling this ourselves but we appreciate the advice from Dems.

Matt Towery Offers Resignation - Not Me
I don't disagree that the Republican Party has failed. They have.

However, Republicans are still right of center. Unlike Colin Powell, I am not a Republican for the comraderie or club benefits. I am a Republican because their platform best addresses America's mission, the preamble to our Constitution: among other things, "....provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare ...." not the other way around.

I always vote for the best man/woman. And, for me, the best man/woman is always a Republican.

Robert
Do you do any independent thinking of your own or do you constantly query what the greatest number of people seem to think and then substitute reality with that? If everyone is doing what you are doing, then where do you think the consensus idea comes from?

I will answer that. It comes from the independent thinkers, the people who make the effort to grasp reality and then demonstrate and show the truth of the ideas they have conceptualized to others, who then go through the same process of grasping. That is how a consensus gets made. I suggest you worry more about what is right and true than trying to secure a meaningless victory by pandering to mindless ignorance.

How many times...
do I have to say it? Principles, not people, people.

Mr. Towery is an example of the problem I am talking about here. He is disgusted with nameless persons, enamored of others, and he cannot articulate a basis for it. He speaks of the betrayal by Bush's people as if Bush had no responsibility in it and was confronted with the remnants of the war and the economic crisis through no fault of his own.

Bush got himself into trouble because he accepted and implemented collectivism, pure and simple, no question about it. He was a "social conservative," and he had no use for the free market, or more precisely, he used the word "free" as a mere figure of speech. The GOP will need to chuck the evil socon agenda completely and stick to right-wing theory (Constitutional government) if it is to survive. This is the only moral and practical path for Republicans.

If it is to surve, the personal loyalties will also need to go. No more whitewashing things and people. No more free passes to people we "like" or who show "humanity." We question, in detail and nonstop, what EVERYONE actually believes in and then we demand results and punish when we don't get them. No one is above suspicion. No one is safe. No more attaching the GOP's fate to individuals. In foreign policy, this is an old and obvious doctrine, but when it comes to domestic politics, it is like everyone gets a beating by the stupid stick all over again.

The GOP forgot who they were.
The current batch of Republicans aren't worth a dime. The Republicans in Congress along with President Bush have spent massive amounts of money on domestic programs and they're acting no different than their liberal counterparts. A massive housecleaning is needed with the leadership in the GOP, and it needs to start with the Republican National Committee. What a bunch of spineless, country club wimps they are!

for BG
BG writes: "Except for terrorism, the Bush Adm never acts until there is a major crisis. It is as though they think everything is a self running, self adjusting system."

That has actually revealed a flaw in conservative ideology, which conservatives have yet to discover:

If conservatives truly believe that "Government is not the solution, government is the problem," then they're only going to care about CUTTING government services, NOT making them work better.

For example, we can now see that the SEC should have had better regulation of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the heavy use of derivatives by private companies. But why should conservatives care about regulating Fannie and Freddie and credit default swaps, when they don't even believe in government regulation on general principles?

I'm not sure conservatives have the right mindset to "adjust" the government to make it work better. They dream of dismantling much of it, not "adjusting" it.

No Guts in the GOP
A brave woman has to show the GOP what it means to have guts. The GOP lets her hang there and get bashed. Sorry, John McCain is a panderer. He panders to the left, he panders to the Mexicans, it damaged his party, it did no one any good. Pandering is cowardly. For all his bragging, McCain is a sniper, not a hero. Campaign finance did him in, appropriately. Again, ignoring the COnstitution is cowardly. Defending it takes guts. The GOP has no guts. It serves the powerful elites. Where are the reprisals against the lying bastards? Where are the boycotts? The GOP will not fight for me. The GOP stabs European-Americans in the back cosntantly. The GOP betrays conservative values constantly. I will never vote for another Republican, if you have that (R) label behind your name you are not my friend.

house cleaning starts with US
I am going to tick some GOP members. Bush was not a problem for the GOP in 2000 or 2004, now they want to run away from him. Sort of like how the Dems ran away from the Clintons.
The root of the problem is that most Americans are spoiled children. We want the President/Congress to do everything for us, when legally they CAN NOT. When they dont provide the handouts we want, we complain and get excited about a new person on the scene. The new person promises all sorts of Goodies, and we get excited. In 4-8 years, the public will throw that person under the bus, and get a new sucka. This article is proof of this theory. The REAL house cleaning needs to take place in the average citizen's mind. Our expectations of Govt needs to change in order for Govt to change.

Not your father's Republican Party
The latest Giuliani robo call is almost recordbreaking in its sleaziness. It claimed, completely falsely, that Obama is against mandatory jail time for child molesters, rapists, and murders. It turns my stomach to see the despicable libel and slander to which the Republicans have turned.

Senator Goldwater's granddaughter and the rest of his descendants have endorsed Obama because they can't stomach the sleaziness of the Republican campaign or the philosophy of the 'new' Republicans-today's Republican party is nothing like the Republican party of Goldwater, Rockefeller, and Eisenhower. George W. Bush and Karl Rove have turned a fiscally conservative, socially moderate, small government party into a disgusting machine for the looting of the taxpayers by well connected big businesses like Halliburton and Bechtel. They favor intrusion into private matters such as whether or not a woman should get an abortion, and Palin favors the end of separation of Church and State. McCain clearly would give us more of the same as the current Administration. Their incompetence has given us huge budget deficits and a catastrophic failure of the banking and finance system. No wonder traditional Republicans like George Will and Secretary Powell are leaving the party in droves. The new Republican party's motto should be, "Not your father's Republican Party -Unfortunately!" Vote Obama for a return to sanity and responsibility.

Burn Down the "House"

Great, The "GOP House" needs to be thoroughly cleaned, then burned to the ground.

The Republican Party, with all its lies, diviseness and kow-towing to the wealthy, no longer represents Conservative America. It has screwed America bad enough for 8 years, and it's time for the people to take it back.

Deal with it.

The writing on the wall
All over the country we are hearing of incidents where people are having their houses shot into for having a McCain sign in their yard. Their cars are being damaged because they have a McCain bumper sticker. Their business is being picketed or boycotted for having a McCain sign. Today a woman was robbed and B carved in her forehead with a knife when the robber saw her McCain bumper sticker.

It's hunting season here in Georgia and I visited five north Georgia hunting stores today looking for a box of .22's to do some squirrel hunting. I didn't find any. The sales people all said they are running low on ALL types and sizes of ammo and that they are selling firearms at a blistering pace.

I've always questioned the wisdom of liberals who are against firearms ownership being overly aggressive when it's the right wing, NRA types who are armed to the teeth. The left has waged and has been wanting class warefare in America and if what I saw today is any indication, it looks like a lot of people are preparing to give it to them. This has the potential for going very wrong.

So much for Obama bringing people together. It is not happening in the mountains of north Georgia. But then, what do you expect? We are all stupid rednecks who cling to our guns and religion with antipathy for those who are not like us.

Oh. And if you are caught carving initials on a woman's forehead around here, be sure to take a good look at her face because it's the last thing you are going to see on this earth and that goes for republicans as well as democrats.

If this is what we can expect under an Obama democrat administration, we won't have to worry about our citizens being in a war in Iraq because they are going to be in a war on main street.

GOP missing the boat
I mostly agree with this article. The GOP definetly strayed from the contract with america back in the 90's that help them get into power. This election is going to force some change regardless who wins. What most liberals illuminati forget is that conservatives make up the larger part of this country and as long as we believe in freedom of choice, conservatives will be back in power once they get their heads out of their you know what.

Amputate the head now!
The new GOP is trying to usurp conservatism by morphing into liberalism. The McCains of the party are in total agreement with the Democrats when they declare that conservative economice principles have failed. The truth is that Bush destroyed the conservative momentum once elected. Unbridled deficit spending is NOT a conservative principle. It's not even a liberal principle. It's a principle endorsed by lazy, incompetent and corrupt politicians.

I suspect there are plenty of Democrats who feel the same way about their own party.

Go Bob "The Builder" Barr!!

McCain is going to win
There is not going to be a rejection of conservative values in this election; there is going to be a rejection of leftist and marxist lies in this election. Obama is going to get whipped soundly.

The polls are being deliberately skewed to make it look like Obama is winning. They are tallying the polls as though there were 40 democrats for for every 25 republicans. The actual number, according to gallup, is 35 dems to 30 republicans. Of those democrats being counted as Obama percentages, some are false registrations. 7 and one half million are PUMAS who are in large numbers voting for McCain/Palin, because they don't like the way Obama stole the caucuses. The Jewish vote, though small, is tilting away from Obama 40% of it, in large urban areas in swing states.

Obama is wasting the 2 million dollars on Grants Stadium preparations. It is the marxist socialist racist anti American contingent that is going to be rejected by the voters in this election.

Waaa-waaaa, Ranger/Roberto

What happened to "Master and Commander"?

Better hurry up and answer before all your posts get flushed again, as usual.

Undermining MSM
The future reconstruction of the Conservative Movement must place the undermining, marginalizing and even destruction of MSM, insofar as we can accomplish it, at the very top of our priorities. No self-respecting conservative should be a patron of ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NYT, WaPo, LAT, Newsweek or Time. We must aggressively challenge their lies and distortions and work to degrade their earnings. Imagine how different the primaries and general elction would have been absent the blatant far left bias of MSM.

McCain didnt have to lose this one
had he divorced Bush early and done the "bailout" correctly...he would be cruising to The Presidency.

He is probably going to be the last victim of the far right.

Robert

Bush did this to himself...he
Instead I mean George W. Bush, and more importantly, those who served his administration by cajoling, misleading and betraying him....

had the opportunity of a lifetime...not only The Presidency but after 9/11 a mandate...and he chose buffoons to listen to.

The press didnt do it to him, he did.

He listened to idiots like Rumsfeld way past their prime...and now the GOP is on the verge of death.

Oh well at least Bush has taken the right wing of the GOP down with him.

Robert

Matt Towery You are Wrong!!
Its not the Bush team that ruined our current President Gerorge W Bush, its the Liberal media that did this and it began the day he took office! I find your article to be nothing but a pro-Obama smut piece and I am stunned that a supposed Conservative oufit as respected as Townhall.com is, would even print such a thing especially with a few days left in the election! Townhall shame on you!!

Liberty will be a thing of the past

What bridge are you proposing? Sounds like you expect libertarians to do all the giving. Well, perhaps after this election we'll see more coalition-building from the GOP.

gentlemanscholar
There's one flaw in your thinking. The GOP had all the power of the incumbency, to include the presidency, house and senate two years ago. Then, they lost it. But all in two year. The net result is that the Democrats can lose that incumbency just as fast as the Republicans did. In two years, or four, it could be a new ball-game. And that's the historic fact - not an assertion. I would also point out a series of consevative reactions over time that fundamentally changed years of bad policies. Try Thatcher. Try Reagan. The good thing about laws is the can change. The great problems today will not be addrssed by either candidate in the next 4 years - but they will be addrsssed. We don't have the permanent option of continuing to run excessive spending deficits - the world won't keep paying for them. The entitlement programs must and will change. Health care must and will change. We are paying 17% for health care - much of the rest of the industrialized world pays 9% - 10%. They live as long as we do. We are talking about "paying for insurance", meaning pay the 17%. The reality is that the solution in on the cost side - not the spending side. And oh yes - we will deal with that too. It's all nonsense right now. People holding desperately to a system we cannot sustain. Doesn't matter who you elect. We're going to break it, and then fix it. Because until we break it, people will avoid fixing it.

McCain The RINO !!!
Lowery you forgot to mention the fact that John Mc Cain along with many other arrogant Republican members of congress crossed the aisle to the liberal side on many issues such as Amnesty, McCain Fiengold, and the Gang of 14. McCain has become a Die Hard conservative only after having won the Republican Party nomination. Myself and many other Republicans trust Mc Cain not any more than Obama.
Mc Cain has been in Washington how many years ??? He is part of the problem and the Republican electorate has once again been offered a " Better Than Theirs " candidate.
As for the " Sacrificial Lamb" Bob Dole ??? The last I heard he was a Lobbyist for some middle east Islamic terrorists harboring countries !!!

Hey, Diamond
I think somebody's cutting your weed with something really noxious - check your cans of paint remover, maybe.

There will be sacrifices
I know the Republican Party need to return to the days of fielding candidates. No one can win a position they are not running for. Obama got money from Democrats that had no opponents. Incumbant democrats are given a free ride their campaign war chest is spread around to contested seats Republicans hold. Stop giving the democrats free rides.

The Coming GOP Bloodbath....
From Politico:

GOP 'goner' list warns of House rout

By JOSH KRAUSHAAR & REID WILSON | 10/23/08 5:34 PM EDT

An internal document circulating among House Republicans warns of an impending congressional bloodbath, listing 58 Republican-held House seats being at risk, and 11 already considered as good as gone. As many as 34 GOP-held seats are in serious jeopardy of swinging to Democrats, the assessment shows.

The state-of-the-race update, first reported on by U.S. News’ Paul Bedard, shows the GOP already writing off the seats of Reps. Tom Feeney (R-Fla.), John R. Kuhl (R-N.Y.), Don Young (R-Alaska) and Tim Walberg (R-Mich.). It also expects losses in the seats of retiring GOP Reps. Rick Renzi of Arizona, Jerry Weller of Illinois, Jim Saxton of New Jersey, Mike Ferguson of New Jersey, Vito Fossella of New York, James Walsh of New York and Tom Davis of Virginia.

Next steps
It's time for all you angry people to get off your butts and start thinking about what you're going to do after the election, this one is toast. Voting isn't enough. It's clear to me that the republicans don't know what they are doing, I'm going to start doing some community organizing myself.
1. Work in a polling place and start challenging ACORN. How many elections is the democrat maching going to steal?
2. Meet people locally (not online) who are conservative and start supporting a local candidates.
3. Spread the word that higher taxes = higher unemployment.
4. The Barack economic plan is designed to fail and lay the blame of that failure on someone else. When democrats screw up no one says anything. This has to stop.

My god, this list just goes on and on. But I'd like to see some bumper stickers.

JOE THE PLUMBER
Screw the uppity poor, raise taxes!

ABORTION
I oppose baby murder.

RACIST
It's funny that "Code Word" has become a code word.

CLASS ENVY
Rich people hire poor people and buy stuff from them.

Support the party of the rich and powerful, vote democrat.

Don't think, vote democrat.

MORTGAGE CRISIS
Why no hearings about the mortgage crisis? Everyone already knows who did it!

HEALTH CARE
The Nazies were socialists who promised free health care.

That last one is a great response to anyone calling you a Nazi. When talking about health care bring up tort reform. When talking about illegal immigration bring up unemployment and white slavery. It's great fun when democrats try to refute any of these talking points, they usally end up using a variation of the "you're a booby head" argument.

Good column--
My wife and I just returned from early voting.
Our first choice would have been Hunter or Tancredo, but unfortunately they lost out to McCain. We like Sarah so we voted for Mac and the Barracuda.
What is realing gauling is that with 300 Million people in the U.S. , these are the best set of candidates that we have to chose from. We think that the BO Trio, Barry, Nancy, and Harry will lead us into a third world condition . It was a choice for us between Slow Poison, (Mac) and Fast poison, (Barry O.),
we chose the Barracuda and her running mate.

Fire in the hole!!!

I would expect that if as a result of bad luck for the USA, OBamBam wins in Nov, riots, burning, and deaths will follow in the days right after the election.

On the other hand, if we have good luck and McCain wins in Nov, riots, burning, and deaths will follow in the days right after the election.

“That One” and his followers don’t know the difference between the joy of winning, and the hate from losing.

....."But that would make you proud of the US, not that you are proud to be an American. It is a silly notion just as silly as saying I'm proud I have brown eyes or I am proud the sky is blue." ....

The streets of Chicago may burn until Turkey day, but you say it like it would be a bad thing. Ha ha

As a former resident of Illinois (40 years), I say let it burn!!! Burn all the way down to the ground. That is the only way it will ever get cleaned up.

Remember, fire is cleansing!

BTW I do enjoy your posts, you are quite educated and well informed on all of the issues. Its nice to read posts as thought out as yours.

Interesting Link
Here is a sample of what we may be able to expect if Obambi wins on 11/04/08. It's a hypothetic, yet fact based (as we know them right now). It is long so you may want to download and save for reading when you have more time.

I believe this puts things into the correct perpective. You will have to cut and paste to your browers. Thanks for letting me share.

McCain/Palin '08

Mark
Amen, if we can only get Conservatives, like myself, to read Mises and Hayek. The Libs are socialist and the Republicans are mercantilist. Down with the Fed and up with the Constitution!

Elect Conservatives
Not Republicans (any can register as a Republican) but Conservatives.

Oppose Liberals, be they hiding under the (D) or the (R). That means taking down B.O. in this election even if John McCain isn't the ideal candidate.

It certainly means you don't buy into the Neo-Communist campaign to suppress the anti-Obama vote in this election. The fact is that Obama is perched dangerously close to defeat and only by convincing those who oppose him not to turn out and vote can the frenetic Neo-Communists fanatics have their candidate win.

Vote against B.O.!

Alecto
God you're an idiot! Yeah, Obama is just like Pol Pot, get ready for the Great American Famine when Obama has us go out and kill sparrows during his four pest campaign (that was Mao not Pol Pot, but I am simply heaping ridicule on you so at this point I don't need to get my Asian communists correct).

I bet he'll have black helicopters too lurking about too, huh?

Towery of Jello, grow up!
I will summarize what others said to this wimp, Matt Towery, just sit down and shutup, you don't speak for the rest of us working to elect McPalin...you sound just like wimpy conservative elitist crowd -- Noonan, Parker, Frum, etc. Get a grip! We can win this election if people like you sit down and shut-up until after the election. You are just one of many trying to bring the party down.
This election is too important to hand if over to the Socialist party of this country.

BEST COLUMN OF THE YEAR!
Matt:

Thank you for telling it like it is!

The Republican party had every opportunity in the world to bring major changes to our country... and, instead, they bellied up to the big government buffet and gorged like pigs.

I'm at the point where I barely equate the word "Republican" with the word "Conservative." To me, there has been a complete disconnect.

We need new CONSERVATIVES to replace the feckless Republican yahoos who've shown ZERO leadership in the past decade.

Gramps

P.S. Thank you for recognizing Sarah Palin's competence and humanity. She's one of the truly inspiring conservatives on today's national scene.

What was right with this article
The Republicans today have failed to get out the message and explain why conservatism. If people understand why then Obama's relentless attacks seem like the foolish and inaccurate ads that they are.

There You Go Again Akagi!
You doubt that Obama is "Mao Light"? That is the issue, isn't it? The media refuses engage in objective reporting and investigation that might uncover facts about him even more damaging than those already revealed. Given the available information about Obama, I do believe at best he is a gifted liar, and at worst he is capable of all the abominations of Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot. He is a totalitarian in the making. The saying goes, "The road to perdition is paved with good intentions." Obama possesses those in abundance. What often follows thoses "changes" and "reforms" prompted by good intentions is absolute and unlimited power being concentrated into the hands of a few, followed by concentration camps.

Obama may be many things. We ought to know exactly what his beliefs are on such important foundational principles as protection of private property, national security, his views on liberty and prosperity, judicial philosophy, the free enterprise system and trade and the qualities he values in advisors. Lacking any of this, how can you so flippantly dismiss the very real possibility that he would ship dissenters off to "re-education" camps? Use federal power unconstitutionally? Eviscerate the 2nd amendment? Abolish private property by working to extend the reach of Kelo? Attempt to establish a permanent Democratic majority by granting sweeping amnesty to illegals (current and future) accompanied by the bread and circuses such ignorant peasants require as quid pro quo for their votes?

With Obama at the helm, Pelosi and Reid in the Congress and God knows who on the SCOTUS, anything is possible. None of these branches has done an outstanding job protecting liberty in this country.

Finally, if Jeremiah Wright's invective doesn't resemble Goebbels' propaganda against the Jews, I submit you're not being intellectually honest.

MCCAIN AND PALIN WILL WIN!!
PETA BACKS OBAMA SO UNLESS YOU WANT A SUPER SALAD AND OAT MEAL EVERY DAY, YOU NEED TO GO VOTE FOR MCCAIN-PALIN!!!!!!!!LOOK UP PETA IF YOU THINK IM KIDDING!

Let the blood letting begin
This election is the revenge of the Country Club Blue Blood Republicans for when President Reagan ran for President, they alone have brought this pox upon us.
May their political corpses provide the building material for the road that the new Republican Party will roll over.

Some cut and paste

A President does two things. Very important things, but mainly these two.

He appoints 30,000 people to manage the 3,300,000 employees, then when the Press arrives, he must remember and point to the appointee who solved a particular problem.

When a President is blamed for something, just remember that most of the millions of employees were in their office (and the coffee shop) when the previous few Presidents were in office.

Everyone talks about electing a leader. The next thing you hear is, can the candidate plow a field, drive a tank, conduct an appendix operation, can he/she blow the tuba in the US Marine Band, can he/she build a railroad track, can he/she do this or that.

Remember, we are electing a leader, not a doer. Watch the Drum Major, does he blow the right notes on the tuba, does he clash the cymbals at the right moment. No he does neither, he is the leader. Watch the coach of a football team, how many points does he score, how many tackles does he make. None. Watch the farmer as he plows the ground, and plants the seeds. He leads the horses, he does not pull the plow.

We must elect a leader who can appoint a staff of people who will select the best person to blow the tuba, to clash the cymbals, score the points, and plow the field.

Do you remember FDR riding in a tank, going to attack the Germans?

Do you remember Truman with a hammer and saw, building the balcony on the White House?

Do you remember JFK getting his shoes wet while landing on the beach at Cuba?

Do you remember Clinton paying attention to the lady under the desk? Well maybe that one doesn’t count.

Well, FDR pointed to General Marshall.

Truman pointed to the carpenter.

JFK ignored Marilyn Monroe for a few minutes, and pointed to a General Taylor.

Clinton was already pointing.

Vote for the party!!!

Libertarian Party = New Republican Party
If you feel like the republican party has gone too far to the left of center, join the Libertarian Party. I used to consider myself a republican but once I learned what the Libertarian Party was all about, I soon realized that's where most conservatives feel most at home.

the party sets the policy.

Think about it. Regardless of which party you have voted for each and every election, was there ever been a time in your life when you wished you had voted for the other party?

The man does not make the party, we hope that the party makes the man. In general, a demorat is a demorat, and repub is a repub, and never the twain shall meet.

Carter and BushW, are the two most useless Pres I can remember. Funny thing is, Carter beat Ford who was one of my favorite candidates. But that was mostly because he let Nixon go, as he should have, and made a slip of the tongue in the debate, that the Press used to defeat him. Not Carter, the Press.

The only reason BushW got elected is because the Demorats nominated the most worthless and the most terrible candidates one could imagine. I would have gladly changed my life’s voting pattern, if most anyone else in the world had been the Demorat candidate.

But remember, the party sets the policy.

Cleaning house
I believe that this article is right on the money. I can’t believe that more could not be done to counter the Obama campaign. I am very upset with the lack of truth being held back regarding Obama with unbelievable political correctness. Most Americans believe in the right to life, definition of marriage as being between a man and woman. The Gay agenda being forced (which Obama supports) into the public school system is asinine to any normal thinking human being. Regardless of religion, race, creed, or political persuasion someone better start ringing the emergency bells and tell the truth about this Obama campaign. If we don’t , don’t just blame the Republican party, but all normal thinking Americans. Someone once said “ In order for wrong to prevail, good people will have to do nothing” Please Lord, wake up the majority of Americans to do what is right.

McCain/Palin will win because:

I see many good reasons why McCain and Palin are the newly elected GOP duo.

The biggest cause will be; Obama is UN-ELECTABLE in a national contest. PERIOD! He's not a white candidate!!! No black man has ever been elected PRESIDENT!

State-wide he's fairly safe, within the Democrat and corrupt brackets. Not in the U.S. context.

Then: Obama is demonstrably weak in the very worst departments.

Honesty-- he fails. Center-right-- he fails. Pro Life, he fails. Experience is an F.

Tax and spend, during economic anxiety? He fails. With the woman's vote--He'll flop! His huge failing is, he's been showing himself an unabashed ultra-left socialist liberal. These types have great trouble staying upright when they're white, experienced and Democrat. Being ultra-left, black, inexperienced, and CORRUPT?

Not the media, nor his gifts of eloquence, nor his money can get this fellow elected, IMHO. These are unshakable precedents. Obama will simply lose any state which isn't rabidly Liberal.

chloe VA you are RIGHT!!!
Clinton did that but it was right and it worked.I think SS and Medicare are a little more solvent and fraud is there but not as widespread. But that will be the debate, reform, but don't privatize or dump it. GOP goes the deregualation route they are gonna get slapped down.

VAWA:An Issue on which Obama/Biden lose
The op-ed below exposes both Biden and Obama on a position they take and have nowhere to go.
The California Appelate Court recently ruled that the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) which is "Biden's baby" and fully supported by Obama (see op-ed below) is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and SCIENTIFICALLY INCORRECT.

Look into the issue and challenge. Given their radical feminist base, they really have nowhere to go.

The saying “As goes California, so goes the Nation,” never has been more true than for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2008. On October 14, the California courts led the nation in bringing public awareness to a previously hidden Domestic Violence issue -- that of battered men -- and subsequently ruled that battered men deserve equal protection under the law.

Facing squarely the reality of Domestic Violence against men, the California Court of Appeals ruled that: “We find the gender-based classifications in the challenged statutes that provide programs for victims of domestic violence violate equal protection. We find male victims of domestic violence are similarly situated to female victims for purposes of the statutory programs and no compelling state interest justifies the gender classification. We reform the affected statutes by invalidating the exemption of males and extending the statutory benefits to men, whom the Legislature improperly excluded.” (page 2). cleaning house? or burning it down?
Sure, I'd like to see the voters clean house by voting out the big-government, wishy-washy Republicans. But if we end up with an Obama presidency and super-majorities in the House and Senate, led by Pelosi and Reid, I'm afraid that we shall have burned the house down in order to clean it.

Michael Medved wrote a recent Townhall column in which he itemized all of the likely, IRREVOCABLE changes likely to be implemented if we give the Dems this kind of control for 4-8 years. You are delusional if you think that somehow after 4 years of Obama the voters will suddenly see the light and vote in a conservative Republican majority. Once a party gains all of the advantages of incumbency, it becomes very difficult to vote them out, especially if they manage to gain a super-majority because conservative perfectionists decide to stay home.

this month they all talk

How our pundits do prognosticate! These lemmings get their juices flowing in the morning by falling out of bed with a thump.

Towery has to have knocked his head on the table in the bargain. He isn't waiting for the election returns to cry the SKY IS FALLING!

McCain won't lose the election, Matt. Maybe he's not everybody's dreamboat; but he's not a Bob Dole. And; yes--

Palin sure will bring out each and every voter on Nov 4th ! We have to send Obambi packing. The streets of Chicago may be burning until Turkey Day, after McCain's elected. That's the sad and tragic part. I myself will be crying quietly for so many bitter and confused African Americans who are sure to feel like killing all the Whities. They're the ones who suffer the humiliation and disappointment, while the politicians just go on eating their filets in the evenings.

My2Cents
Please give me a bigoted quote from Palin.

Cleaning house
Not a bad idea. Along with that, we can let Palin keep the wardrobe, so long as she promised never to raise her bigot head again.

Entitlement programs consume 52% of our Federal budget right now. Social Security and Medicare are rife with fraud and mismanagement. Without real reform, both will bankrupt this country many times beyond the bank bailout.

BTW: Clinton signed welfare reform at the behest of a Republican controlled Congress. He had no choice. Even then, he waited until the 11th hour before the 1996 election to sign it into law.

Lawrence v. Texas
The court should have struck it down on equal protection grounds, but the court brought in opinions of foreign courts in its decision, don't you find this pretty scary?

Time to show Conservatism the Door
Fundamentally, the problem is conservatism from criticism of Lawrence Vs State of Texas, infatuation on Gay Marriage, obsession of artificial culture of revivalist American evangelicalism or the errors of the civil religion of our past. , entitlement culture of American job, isolationist tendencies on trade, obsession with language and flags and Mexicans. All seem to point out definitively there is no difference between conservatism and liberalism. It a mater of who what issues the overbearing stick of big government is applied. I haven’t even got to vice.

A better solution is individualism and capitalism, where government has only a few mandates: Protect its citizens for external enemies, protect for the initiation of force and fraud, and facilitate each individual the right of trade with who everyone wishes to. As for culture it is left to freedom loving individuals to make there case to other in the public square. I speak in secular terms in culture noting I am a Reformed noting that salvation is not the error of man building a sociality and worldly church but God redeeming sinful men.

Regardless of the outcome next week...

Ron Paul is still right.
We got a shot at the one honest politician that was a presidential candidate. He had the integrity and courage to tell the truth. And the GOP along with thier sheeple treated the sole truth teller with disdain.

I'll be writng in Ron Paul and know that I voted for the right person, the only person that had the guts to tell the truth about the Federal Reserve and the severe damage that agency has done to all Americans. And guess what, I won't need a barf bag or have to hold my nose.

I guess it was just a little too complicated or unusual to understand for most GOP voters. So what do they do when they don't understand? Call him a kook, belittle him etc. Call him an isolationist, on and on.

I blame the sheeple that refuse to read and educate themselves, then run around yelling the sky is falling if you vote Dem.

I don't expect to ever vote for a Dem or Republican again, excepting that rare indivual that puts liberty above their own interest.

There was only one of those in this election and he was soundly rejected by the sheeple. So be it. Then I too am rejected by the sheeple and will stand with those that believe in liberty and the Constituion no matter how small our numbers.
