Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

It was over a year and a half ago that I wrote the first story suggesting that a move in the date of the Florida presidential primary, then just a rumor in Tallahassee, would likely shake up the entire presidential race.

It did.

Had the Republican-dominated Florida legislature not moved up the date of that state's primary, to precede the 23 Super Tuesday states by a week, the entire GOP and Democratic race for the presidency might have turned out radically different.

Certainly the change impacted the Democratic battle. National party leaders knew full well from the start that they would refuse to recognize the vote in Florida, where Hillary Clinton was a lock to win the contest (and, in fact, under Florida law, did win). Consider the impact Clinton's win in New Hampshire, combined with a huge victory in Florida, might have had on the Obama "train" to victory.

But Howard Dean and the Democratic National Committee were determined to put the days of Bill and Hillary Clinton into history's rearview mirror. The party brass knew darn well that denying Clinton her biggest and most likely early prize would turn things upside down. She was doomed before she started.

Now Clinton battles on, limping her way through Southern states that really no longer matter. She can't prevent her campaign's inevitable doomsday meeting with the deluge of uncommitted "super delegates," including the great "peacemaker" himself, Jimmy Carter. He will soon issue his edict from on high: Off with Hillary's head!

Barack Obama, barring unforeseen happenings, will be the hero of the new Democratic Party. The Kennedy family has been in great fear that they might lose their "Democratic royalty" title to a Clinton clan with two presidents in the family. Now the Kennedys can breathe easier.

Now what will happen? The answer is -- nobody knows. Nobody.

Some polls show the septuagenarian Sen. John McCain leading Obama, while others show it the other way around. Of course, national popular vote, taken as a collective whole, means nothing. It's a state-by-state race.

Looking to the key swing states, it's hard to tell whether the weight of eight years of George W. Bush, amplified by a fair amount of Bush-like rhetoric from McCain, will move voters in places like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina and other states to reject another four years of Republican rule.

There's another side to the equation. Will the so-called blue-collar voters, who stood in hard for Clinton, now accept Obama as someone who truly understands the issues they care about; as a fighter for their causes? Might the old war hero McCain somehow appeal to their supposed profile of being the "common" men and women? Will patriotism -- his and theirs -- make a love match to put him in the White House?

I have no idea. I have polled these races until I'm blue in the face. I'm proud to say our firm polled all but one contest (Democrat or Republican) with the correct winner. But that matters little now.

The one thing that is clear to me is that Hillary Clinton has been finished off by a Democratic establishment, long based in the Northeast, that never liked her husband very much anyway, and that couldn't stand the thought of her serving as president. They got their way, as they knew they would.

Now the question is whether the GOP establishment, also with roots in the Northeast, wants John McCain to be president. After all, they can't control him, and he's not a part of their "political club."

It might be that unless McCain relents and allows the GOP establishment's man Mitt Romney to run on the ticket as the vice-presidential running mate, that the party kingpins will sit this one out.

That would allow a President Barack Obama the chance to show everyone what real "change" looks like.

Who knows? It might be great. Or it might consist of the leadership of an idealistic former state legislator with a few years in the U.S. Senate, who has the guiding hand of the Kennedy/Kerry political operation truly running things with an invisible hand.

If so, Hillary Clinton might take a cue from Ted Kennedy, and come back to run again in four years against a Democratic incumbent, just as Kennedy did against President Jimmy Carter in 1978.

If that happens, Lord help the people who get in her way.

interesting take
of course your facts aren't quite correct.

hillary was the inevitable candidate if you remember only 18 months ago.

obama was not even on the radar screen.

now i suppose you could maintain that this "northeastern power elite conspiracy" actually thought edwards would win but any seasoned politician knows to expect the unexpected.

if the idea was to stop hillary in florida, why did they include michigan.

then to also claim romney was also part of this grand conspiracy is a little strange.

so between the lines, this author is claiming the country is being controlled by a bunch of suits in the northeast.

that is quite a stretch.

Listen Matt, great operation chaos stuff
but Hillary lost thing thing totally on her own. Well, not totally on her own, Bill helped an enormous amount. Oh sure guys like Howard Dean wanted to take the Clintons out. But the Clintons lost the Democratic nomination mostly due to their own blunders.

As much as Obama winning would be horrible for the country, I would rather have him over Hillary. Now we have to get John McCain elected.

Obama might be a puppet
with the creepy Kennedy/Kerry machine pulling the strings now, but if BHO has the ego I think he does, he'll cut the strings and go his own way just as soon as he feels he has built enough of a power base--say, after 2 or 3 years as Prez(assuming he gets elected).

To religiouslib: I don't think MT includes Romney as part of the Dem conspiracy; rather, that the Repub power brokers want Romney on the R ticket.

no honor among thieves
It is interesting that Hillary has been put out to sea on a iceberg by her own party. How do so many people trust them since they eat their own? If they will throw Hillary out on her rear end without batting an eye, the former wife of a recent President and democratic royalty, what will they do to the rest of us "little people"?
Truly, there is no honor among thieves....

Rolling my eyes.....
Just a comment on writing style here.

I'm no fan of the Kennedy's. It's my opinion that the patriarch, "Jittery Joe" Kennedy, was a Nazi kowtowing, anti-semitic, coward, while JFK was a nepotist who was as out of his depth and overrated as President as his brother was as Attorney General, and Teddy is a drunken, womanizing buffoon.

But this statement is baldly ridiculous, and a mistake to use in this column:

"The Kennedy family has been in great fear that they might lose their "Democratic royalty" title to a Clinton clan with two presidents in the family."

How can anyone be afraid to lose something that doesn't exist? And a mythical "Democratic royalty" title certainly doesn't exist, except perhaps in the fevered imaginations of NY Times columnists.

Tossing out a throw-away statement like that, though, sort of buys into the fantasy that there really is a "Democratic royalty" title, even when the term is used disparagingly.

For example, I'd never refer to Robert Byrd, as so many liberal members of media are wont to do, as the "Lion of the Senate" or the "Conscience of the Senate" even sarcastically or disparagingly because to do so acknowledges, in a backhanded way, that he is thought of in that way.

Besides "Kleagle of the Senate" is so much more accurate and descriptive of the type of man that Robert Byrd is and punishes the notion that he is the "Lion" or "Conscience" of the Senate without even mentioning the term.

There was no coup
Now, is not the time to go over the top just because Hillary will not win the nomination. There is life after Hillary. This country will go on without having another Clinton as President. In order for your coup scheme to have any legs to stand on, there had to have been cooperation from both the Republicans and Democrat party for this to happen. When too many operatives are involved there is no way secrecy can be mantained. When we go to lengths like this to make excuses why the worlds smartest woman won't get the nomination, only proves there are people who do believe as the Clintons do. The Presidency is an entitlement. Dry your eyes, life will go on without Queen Hillary.

The real reason
Gerri Ferraro was correct. If Osama Obama were a white male she would have walked away with this thing months ago. Do you thing he is getting 90% plus of the black vote because he is articulate? Not only did he get 90% plus of the black vote but blacks came out in numbers bigger than ever before for a primary. In the general election this will happen as well. These people will demand an ever larger share of power out of proportion to their population. Then you moderate and liberal whites will see change just like White South Africans and Rhodisians did. Then maybe white Americans will put aside their petty differences vote as a block before we lose the country.

my 2 cents
1) Hillary was "inevitable" 6 months ago, not 18.

2) Ted challenged Jimmuh in 1980, not 1978.

If bo should win, and if he should have the invisible (?) guiding hand of the Kennedy/Kerry political operation helping him, along with nancy pelosi from the people's republic of california heading the congress, then God help us.

2 more cents
If we are to be FINALLY rid of the Clintons, then that is a good thing. I personally believe that Hillary will make a graceful concession speech after the last primary and urge democratic unity, yada yada yada. (One more yada.)

Religious lib - good post. I agree with you.

uncle max
thanks

i try to be objective in my posts (don't always succeed) but i try.

this article just rang false for me.

"..while JFK was a nepotist who was as out of his depth and overrated as President.."

Amen to that!

John F. Kennedy: The author of all this country's present miseries. Specifically, the Community Mental health Centers Act of 1963 or "CMHS". The law that began the "homeless" phenomenon in the US. Kennedy's changes to "AFDC", Aid to Families with Dependent Children (welfare), that guaranteed the destruction of the Black family by eliminating the father and created the acceptance of "white single mothers" by society. And last, but not least , the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 , aka, "Immigration Reform". This law began the burden of illegal immigration that eventually added to the errors of the above two legislative mistakes.

A hundred years from now, social historians will look upon the Kennedy Era as being a general disaster to America.

I don't know who'll win in Nov.
but I know what will happen if either Hillary or Bbarack wins:

I just wrote this somewhere else--

filibuster-proof Senate

higher taxes, higher taxes, higher, taxes

the whole global warming agenda--taxes, fees, and surcharges on all energy and its use

amnesty and Am. soc. services for eillegals and felons

military disaster and chaos in the Middle East--gas could be $10 a gal

two of more liberal Ginsberg-clone idjits on the Supreme Court

the Unfairness Doctrine, so you may not be able to write here unless countered/balanced by someone on the daily krap or moviealong.org

the entire homosexual and feminist agendas from homosexual marriage and benefits to paying women who work part time as if they were brain surgeons

the universal healthcare boondoggle that will limti your medical access and give your most private info to DC bureaucratic goons

Those so-called conservatives who care so little about the future of America that they blog here on how they won't vote for McCain, and how much they hate the Rep. Party, are acually not much different from the reptilian haters that populate the left-wing faculties of so-called elite universities and scorn the manual worker and housewife.l

If you don't mobilie yourselves, you'll soon be living in Sweden II. It'll just be geog. larger and not so dependent on water power.

It is no stetch
to see that a conspiracy is possible & even very likely when Ted Kennedy gets in the fray.
When he jumped on the Obama train i thought, he is up to something.
Ted would use Obama like a door mat while heaping false praise on him.
There has never been a more crooked person in congress than Ted Kennedy.

renny
The so-called conservatives who gave McMexico the nomination can thank themselves for the socialism to come. They knew well how the base felt about McBackstab, and pushed him on us anyway.

Maybe you would get more traction if you convince Hillery supporters to abandon their principles? I hear they have less of them to abandon.

Saving America
by pulling one fang at a time.

Mr. Towery speculates on another Hillary run in 2012 and warns: "If that happens, Lord help the people who get in her way."

It seems to me like she's shot her wad, and a significant number of people got heartily sick of seeing Bill poke his red alcoholic's nose into the campaign.

So let us relax for a moment, certain that other monsters are on the way, looking for their moment in the sunshine.

MICHELLE OBAMA IS A MAJOR DISGRACE!
DEFINITION OF DISGRACE.."MICHELLE OBAMA"

******MICHELLE OBAMA IS A DISGRACE!******

i dont know how anybody in this entire country would think michelle obama has any class! she's an angry women and too street with a horendous bad attitude and just overall a major disgrace!

picture her standing next to any other 1st lady infact if she was standing next to most women she would be the one everybody would point out as to not fitting in with true ladies! she will never be accepted in any other way! its innate!! its in her demeanor and in her which is why! shes 100% ghetto and sickens half the country with her tacky way she dresses her sagging cleavage which is completely unappropriate for anybody seeking the white house. spare me with her sagging breasts which she continues to show on national tv even without a bra! and then she snorts her mucous on national tv without blowing her nose as what a person with any class would do! she just snorts it in and swallows it and its utterly disgusting to see that and she doesnt even know just how disgusting that is to the american people!

THAT IS ONE DISGUSTING WOMEN! REMINDS ME OF A VERY LOW CLASS BLACK WOMEN THAT HATES THE WORLD AND ALL WHITE PEOPLE!

SHE'S WHAT YOU CALL AN IGNORANT BLACK MILITANT TYPE PERSON!! SHE WONT EVER MAKE IT IN THE WHITE HOUSE! SHE ALONE WOULD DEGRADE THAT HOME!

i could just hear what she would be telling her husband if that tradegy ever occurred and she ended up somehow winning this thing she would laugh and say out loud the following:

WE DID IT BABY! WE FOOLED ALL THOSE WHITE PEOPLE THAT WE HATE SO MUCH!! YOUR GOOD BABY!! YOU B S'D THE WHITES WHICH WE BOTH HATE!

ted got rid of the arkansas hillbillys so that he could have a new boy and no contention in town.

The Kennedy family has been in great fear that they might lose their "Democratic royalty" title to a Clinton clan with two presidents in the family. Now the Kennedys can breathe easier.
