Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

As I write this column for Jacksonville's Florida Times-Union and Creators Syndicate, it is Thursday afternoon, Jan. 24. Our latest InsiderAdvantage survey of Florida, conducted with our partners at Majority Opinion Research, shows John McCain and Mitt Romney in basically a tie going into the weekend before the huge Florida Republican primary.

It remains my opinion that the winners of the Florida primaries will be the ultimate nominees of both the Republican and Democratic parties. This, despite that the Democratic National Committee has done its party a huge disservice by ruling that no delegates will be awarded based on Tuesday's primary.

Let's talk about the Democrats first. Every poll has shown Sen. Hillary Clinton with a big lead in Florida. Sen. Barack Obama is headed for a clear victory in Saturday's South Carolina Democratic primary, in large part because he is carrying a large portion of the African-American vote there, where blacks make up nearly half of the Democratic voters.

But it is unlikely Obama will get enough of a bump from this expected win to overcome Clinton's lead in Florida. The only way the race becomes close is if the turnout in Florida on the Democratic side is so severely depressed as a result of the DNC's rules that Obama's supporters turn out in greater numbers and pull off an upset.

If Clinton wins Florida, even if the votes don't count as of now, she will have the bragging rights and momentum of having won the first contested truly "big" state. That makes large venues such as California much easier for her campaign.

As far as the GOP goes, all candidates realize that it's Florida or bust for them. Our InsiderAdvantage survey asked Floridians not only if they intend to vote next Tuesday, but if they have already voted. Many Americans would be shocked to learn that as of earlier this week, nearly a third of the primary votes expected to be cast had already been received, either by absentee ballot, or by Florida's robust early voter program.

The leadership of the Republican Party in America is up for grabs. If Sen. John McCain wins, the power structure of the party likely will be wholly different than it has been for years under the watchful eye of the George W. Bush establishment. McCain has long been viewed by party mavens as a maverick and an outsider.

If former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney prevails, the GOP as we know it today will remain intact. Most of the political leaders and strategists who have helped the Bush family in years past are a part of the Romney effort.

This may seem insignificant, but intraparty politics is big and mean business. If those who have been in control lose out, their potential to have serious political power as elected officials, lobbyists and political operatives suffers a blow. And for some, that's a blow to their wallets.

Regardless of the outcome, it is hard to imagine that the winner of the GOP race in Florida won't emerge as the nominee. If McCain wins, he will have momentum to go along with a more moderate record. Both will appeal to Republican voters in California, where he has a lead in the polls among the GOP field that averages 8 percent, according to RealClearPolitics.

Should Romney win, the McCain train will have been slowed down. More specifically, his money flow will slow, too. Even now, with McCain faring as well as any GOP candidate, it's proving hard for him to collect cash. If he loses in Florida, he will run out of gas, and Romney will start piling up delegates.

Is there hope for Rudy Giuliani? Recall that his entire strategy was based on winning in Florida and then springboarding off of that.

No one really knows the answer. But for all the attacks on the validity of polls following the New Hampshire primaries, the fact remains that most of us in the polling business have been close to on-target in these races.

It would surprise me if Giuliani were to climb his way back up. I offer that assessment with this caveat, however: Floridians love their debates, and I write just hours before just such an event. Remember, the CNN/YouTube contest made Mike Huckabee a front-runner, at least for a while. It's possible it could do the same for Giuliani.

One final thought. If the Florida Republican primary ends up as close as it appears, keep in mind that any top two candidates within half a percentage point of each other means an automatic voter recount!

No, there won't be any "hanging chads" Tuesday night. Florida has had more than one round of election reform to prevent that catastrophe from repeating.

Still, it would be poetic justice for a vote-counting controversy to divide the Republican Party just eight years after George Bush became president after exactly that.

Russert Was Too Polite
I found the debate questions pretty soft. Was immigration discussed? Not much. Huckabee was asked why he airs an ad in Spanish, but that was about it. McCain was not asked to defend his (unpopular with conservatives) position on immigration. Was Huckabee asked to explain "We need to take this nation back for Christ"? Was Romney challenged on his blatant lie that we pay higher income tax than any nation but Japan? (Check out the Scandinavian countries.) Giuliani disposed of the New York Times quite neatly but was not asked about the accusation in the Sunday Times that, as Mayor of New York, G had practiced vengeance and vindictiveness that just about reached the level of knee-cap-breaking, and names were named---the piece was convincing.

lilly one interesting factor in debate
I didn't get to see it, have only read analysis and excerpts, but I understand that somebody finally brought up Mitt's days as a hedgefund operator.

I hadn't paid much attention to it personally, but tonight I did a little searching on the net, and this looks like it could be the true WMD of this campaign.

I can picture it now, a commercial showing a young single mother, distraught over the job she lost when Bain Capital took over the company.

Additionally, the idea of Mitt having to explain why the millions he made managing other peoples' money should have been taxed at the capital gains rate of 20% rather than the 35% income tax rate would be a sight to behold.

Lilly by the way
Spread the word...

Romney = offshore tax havens!

In a Quandary
There are three or more factions fighting for the heart and soul of the Republican Party. Years of pandering to the Christian Right have given them Mike Huckabee, a darling of evangelicals and fundamentalists. The more secular minded neocons favor a Bush clone in McCain on such issues as free trade, failure to secure our borders, and the Iraq War. The Liberals and moderates favor Giuliani, but he is hated by much of the Party. The Party is in a quandary. Much of the American public is moving left of center on the major issues of the day (guns, gays, life, immigration). However, The Republican Party seems set to give us their most extreme candidate. Many social conservatives have even threatened to bolt the party if a liberal like Guiliani gets the nomination. If the Republican Party breaks up, it will be a great year for progressives and real Democracy in America. Jay.

Jason
Even a liberal like me finds this distressing. Every day I see dozens of posters insisting that they will not vote if their candidate is not the nominee.

Sure, as a liberal I want the Dem ticket to prevail this fall, but more than that, I want people to vote. Every right and freedom guaranteed by the Constitution is synthezied in the principle of one person/one vote.

So I say to conservatives, vote for SCOTUS balance, vote against Hillary or Obama, vote for Donald Duck if you choose, but please vote.

bryce3
Do you have a problem with Teddy Kennedy's millions being sheltered in the same type of off shore account?

TruLib
You're darn tootin' I do! I have a problem with the basic inequity inherent in our complicated tax code precisely because it stacks the deck in favor of people like Kennedy and not average working people.

Romney Leads in Ill Will Among G.O.P.

Romney Leads in Ill Will Among G.O.P. Candidates
WHY???

NYT-At the end of the Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire this month, when the Democrats joined the candidates on stage, Mitt Romney found himself momentarily alone as his counterparts mingled, looking around a bit stiffly for a companion.

The moment was emblematic of a broader reality that has helped shape the Republican contest and could take center stage again on Thursday at a debate in Florida. Within the small circle of contenders, Mr. Romney has become the most disliked.

With so much attention recently on the sniping between Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama on the Democratic side, the almost visceral scorn directed at Mr. Romney by his rivals has been overshadowed.

Vote i will, and Donald duck for president is looking better and better. I have voted for fringe candidates before, as a protest to both candidates. The Nader and Perot protest candidacies had great impact in demonstrating to the parties they couldn't win without their base. Looks like the GOP is going to get another lesson. At least the smoke-filled room nomination process tended to produce candidates with gravitas. What a bunch of green lightweights we're looking at now. Well, it could turn out ok. Sometimes the job makes the man. Harry Truman was a no-name hack until the death of FDR. He made plenty of mistakes, but overall did better than most.

It is simply amazing how Matt can
be so consistently wrong ALL the time. I guess that is why he is sitting on the sidelines carping instead of sitting in the State Legislator in GA.

Matt, the battle for the heart and soul of the Republican Party will occur on Super Tuesday and beyond. If the RINOs win and go to the election the Dems will win and the Rerpublican Party will either be purged of the RINOs or go down in the ash heap of history with the Whigs.

No, Not Florida
I don't think Florida will make or break Rudy, Mitt or John but it sure might make a large dent. If Rudy loses big, that may end his chances. Irrespective of which candidate wins in the enc, it would be a very good thing for the Repubs to overthrow the Bush influence for the party. What will it go to if that happens? Probably worse. But isn't that what politicians and the judicial system create? Look what they have done since 1776 to a rock-solid government.

Conservative Options
At this point, it appears that Guliani has faded, Huck may be a spoiler, and Romney and McCain seem to be at the top in Florida. Florida may not entirely end it, but it appears that it will narrow the field. There isn't, after all, enough money for all 4 candidates to stay effectively in the race.

If it is Romney or McCain, then when it comes to the general, we will almost certainly see them do what Nixon often said you had to do - which is run to the right in the primary, and back as fast as you can to the center in the general. The only advantage the GOP has this year, is that the Democrats seem to have, one more time, locked themselves into an even worse slate of candidates than the GOP.

The dilemma for the GOP is that some Conservatives seem increasingly to be abandoning the party. Some insist that everyone should vote - but that implies that a refusal to vote for one of the two party candidates is not a vote - when it quite clearly is. There is nothing that implies that being a citizen, after all, obligates one to vote for unacceptable candidates. Many conservatives are increasinly looking for the best way to force the GOP to stop being a mirror image of the Democrats, and if that means election losses that cause the party to reconnect with its base, then they may be the only option they have.

The Democratic turnout in Florida
Don't count on a low Democratic turnout in Florida. Thanks to Republican policy these past seven years, Democrats, Independents and yes, Republicans want no part of W any any longer. (Notice the lack of proud Bush Cheney bumper stickers in the Florida? They have all been scraped off - probably in the dead of night.) It is too late for Republicans to separate themselves from their once golden boy. Florida Democrats remember the boastful invective from Bush supporters -"Bush won - get over it!"

Republicans, you voted for Bush and he lead you to this point. Now you have to live with and be a part of his failure; You will lose in 2008 - get over it.

It doesn't matter if McCain, Romney, Rudy, Huckabee or exhumed from the grave Ronald Reagan run. You allowed Dick Cheney and George Bush manipulate you you. and you thought you were so business wise.
You will lose in 2008 - get over it.

The N.Y. Times
Has endorsed McCain. Should that be enough of a message about who the Dims want to run against? The Times also savaged Rudy which makes me feel better about him as a possible candidate. Everyone appears to dislike Mitt except the voters. His stock is rising in Florida.

Look for the media to start attacking Mitt if he prevails in Fla. The media will also start ramping up the love for McCain. That would last until he, God forbid, locked up the nomination. At that point McCain will become unelectable as he would be too old, too male, the son of Satan, a conservative, whatever they could throw that might stick and to elect Hillary they will throw a lot.

NEW YORK TIMES ENDORSES MCCAIN

.....Conservative hating NY Times has endorsed McCain ...and trashed all other Republican candidates ....should I vote for the friend of my enemy? ...that was a rhetorical question ...

...how about voting for the enemy of my enemies? ...both Lilly & Bryce are viciously attacking Romney ...well that does it ...Romneys got my vote ...

GERALDO RIVERA WOULD VOTE FOR MCCAIN

.....On Faux & Friends this morning Geraldo Rivera praised John McCain and said that he could vote for him ...

.....When a flaming radical Liberal from the sixties praises McCain ...red flags should go up like the rockets red glare ...

.....McCain is a Trojan Horse Democrat and should repel Conservative voters like a Vulcan Force Field .....COLOSSUS

Hedge Funds Romney's weakness?
Not if everyone takes a careful factual look at hedgefunds and how much democrats are getting from hedgefund operators including Soros and how much money from hedgefunds Obama and Hillary have gotten.

How about Edwards working for a hedgefund responsible for martgage problems for Katrinia homeowners.

Come on folks. Let's look at all candidates and their positions on immigration, the war, taxes, terrorism and stop trying to use made up scandals the issues.

Repblican party
As our country slides closer to big brother socialism, or progressivism, which ever word you want to use, we need a strong Republican party. We need a candidate who strictly adheres to constitutional principles. Mitt Romney is committed to preserving our freedoms, strengthening our educational system, and building a stronger, safer America. We need to elect Mitt Romney for the sake of our children's future.

Presidential primary and Republicanism
MITT ROMNEY is a TRUE REPUBLICAN. Here are just a few reasons we need his leadership.
1. We need his economic expertise and experience creating and holding jobs. He has real world experience dealing in today's global marketplace. Without a strong economy, nothing else works. Romney is or best hope to grow our economy. Many people consider Romney an economic genius.
2. Romney has a history of asking the right questions, listening intently, evaluating carefully and decisively LEADING. He brings new vision, efficiency, and energy to every endeavor
3. Romney has impeccable integrity and high standards. He is absolutely trustworthy.
4. Romney stands firmly in support of our constitution. He supports states rights and individual rights. He is committed to the preservation of our freedoms.
5. Romney is strong on education. While his was governor, Massachusetts students ranked #l in the nation in education. He will encourage innovation in technology and research and development to find answers to the energy crisis. Romney is an exceedingly intelligent man and proven problem solver!
6. Romney is committed to a strong national defense. He will protect our borders and keep our nation safe. He is also an excellent negotiator.
7. Romney will work to ensure our laws are enforced, our borders are secure, and illegal immigration is controlled.
8. Romney is a self-made man who owes no one favors. He will bring fresh voices and new ideas to the table. Romney will bring dignity and respect to the office of President.
9. Romney is a committed family man. He supports socially conservative values and walks the walk in his personal life.
10. Romney has strong grass roots support all across the west. He is an excellent strategist and a winner.

delusional lilly
poor pathetic delusional lilly can always see eveil in conservs and the right. But she has undyingly defended the clintons untill her white lib guilt forced her to promote oblahma as thought that will erase her guilt of being white. But now her previous heroes are sending out their message that oblahma should be considered a boy and that white knows that blacks are incapable of being intelligent enough, don't have enough experience and certainly can never measure up to what the clintons can offer. But once the clinton's haver buried oblahma lilly will return to the clinton's begging foregiveness for ever abandoning them. But while poor lilly can see viccious repbus she conveniently overlooks the most visciousand vindictive politicians of the generation. The clintons maintain they take the high road but behind the scenes actively work to destroy opponents by whatever means is necessary. That the missus clinton claims that her greatest joy comes from destroying opponents certainly shows someone with limited compassion. But the clintons know they can never win the battle of ideas so they launch their wars to personally destroy their opponents. And still the delusional libs/dims/socialists maintain the clintons are what america needs

Romney supports the income tax system
of serfdom for American taxpayers. The government takes by force the fruit of taxpayers' labors allowing the taxpayers to keep what the government says they can keep. How is the different from the medieval feudal system? Vote for Romney and the income tax system if you are a true serf. Vote for Huckabee and the Fair Tax if you wish to be free to keep the fruit of your labors. It is as SIMPLE AS THAT!!!

eddie
trhere has been no serious debate concerning real changes in reforming the tax systems. But even economists can't seem to agree on a system that would work. But huck while floating the idea has yet to give concrete details. But it is all a mute argument. The dims in the house are never going to give up control of the tax system that they use to punish the middle class but continue to find ways to help others avoid paying taxes.

Electability, Electability, Electability
When the polls tell us McCain is the only Republican? That can win; I laugh. We all know that polls can be disingenuous in the way questions were asked. Every winner of the presidency has been behind on the polls at some point.
When the NYT endorses Billary and McCain it is their dream team. It would ensure that The Clinton’s relocate again. (Maybe they will bring back some of the things they took when they left but don’t count on it, Bill needs to redecorate his office/residence in Harlem.) Rudy has lost all steam and it is unlikely he can get it back because he is also almost out of money. Huckabee is very likable but does not seem very presidential and is having money problems. Romney has collected the most money and has plenty of his own. (The media are constantly harping on the fact that he is rich and has money to spend on his campaign; but they didn’t seem to think it was evil for John Kerry four years ago, or John Edwards now maybe because it because they are Democrats.) The fact that the MSM hate him the most is very telling to me.
None of the candidates are perfect EVER! The primaries are to winnow out the best or at least the strongest candidate. The media’s desire to get it settled fast is another interesting issue. They have been counting Romney out since before Iowa; even now with him in the lead of the delegate count, they are giving him little or no chance. I made my decision last night. I believe Romney is the most electable so I will vote for him.

Lies?
Lilly, you may want to get you facts straight. Romney said that our corporate tax rate was the 2nd highest in the world, not the income tax rate. You look silly when you accuse someone of a lie when you don't base your accusation on fact.

SICK OF MCCAIN

.....I really get sick of McCain using his so-called "HERO" status as a vehicle to the White House ...

.....I met a few authentic battle tested heroes in Vietnam and they were modest about their accomplishments ...McCain on the other hand shouts his from the highest rooftops which makes me suspicious ...

.....A case could be made that McCain is a phoney and that he was never tortured at all when he was in captivity ...he was isolated from the other prisoners so how would anyone know how he was treated? ...

.....McCain was the son of an Admiral and thus a very valuable political pawn for the NVA so why would they want to torture him ...what would they gain if he died in captivity? ...nothing! ...it is far more likely to me that he received preferential treatment while in captivity ...

.....He failed his mission ...was shot down and captured by the enemy ...so what qualifies McCain to be President? ...nothing!!! .....COLOSSUS

MESSAGE TO MCCAIN

....."You ratted on your friends Mackie ...now you don't have no friends" ...Number Five from "Short Circuit" .....COLOSSUS

Vic
I'm not sure you don't need to have a column. As this race unfolds, I'm starting to agree with you on your point about the Republican party with this exception: I think that your "if" the RINO's win, should be changed to "when" the RINO's win.

Hey baseball doc
Huckabee is still polling 2nd nationally and is nearly tied with Giuliani for 3rd in Florida while leading in Georgia.

You said about Huckabee after South Carolina -
'after that he will sink faster than Enron stock ...if I am wrong I will buy you a 20oz prime steak dinner'.

I can almost taste it now...

Romney/Huckabee 2008
If Romney wins FL and Rudy drops out, Romney needs to ask Huckabee to be his VP. This will prevent the Pro-Amnesty McCain from getting the nomination.

McCain is another general election loser like Bob Dole. He would lose big time against the MSM and their pet Clinton.

Romney/Huckabee would unite the Republicans and generate turnout. Most conservatives on townhall would vote for this ticket and not stay home because they couldn't stand either Romney or Huckabee.

We watched
the second half of the debate. And just from that part of it were impressed with Romney's
grasp of the economy. And have been in prior debates although we supported Tancredo, Hunter and Fred first. We Conservatives can't look to replace Ronald Reagan, we may never have the privilege to live in another administration like his. It's as foolish a hope as I had when I bought another Shelti expecting Maggie to behave exactly like Char..didn't work, never does. Having said that, I'm looking for the best one
represent the majority of my values and Mitt looks to be that one. I think we have to look at how he governed my home state which is infected with democrat corruption from the bottom up as his successor has proven..and of course the Bobsey twins Lurch and the Swimmer.
He had to wade through the miasma of corruption
to get anything done at all and he left MA with a surplus. I want..Secure Borders and enforcement of the laws; lower taxes in either Flat or Fair, don't care but want my kids to be freer than we are; and energy independence as in ANWR, alternative energy, new refineries, offshore drilling on a fast track. Actually there are the social issues..the truth about the cost of abortion to mother and child and our economy; I want a return to our Republic and Constitutional government. I could go on with this list and Mitt seems the closes to the candidate i am hoping for, however he's not
the Lone Ranger..I want a new, patriotic Congress
that will hold mavericks to account be they President or Senator.

same swamp gas different day
Looks like the Gilt Bird Cabin CINO's are out in force on this one. Being a Virginian, and having lost count of the number of times John (Bork um)Warner has stabbed Christian Conservatives (or Evangelicals or whatever your CINO/RINO buzz word is)in the back, I can't see that the GOP has done a damn thing for me, much less pander.

Even here on TH (George) Willie and The (Charles) Krauthammer...[cue the music dum dum dum dum dum "Willie, Willie Willie Willie and Krauuuuuuuuut--upyars Elton John] have blamed "Intellegent Design" School Borders in PA for the death of Conservatism and the Demise of the GOP.

What exactly did we get for being "pandered" to?
No Child Left Behind? Scalia for CJOTUS? Shamnesty? All that Pork?

Or is it our problems with yqueer marriage and killn babies for research that got you moronic mythical moderates pzd off? As if those two issues are going to win you the White House.

Seems to me everybody is slobbering NOW about how they are going to appoint "strict constructionist" justices so it can't be the other baby killing issue.

but more on (best Festus Hagan impression..)Mattheeeww and his gleeful MaCaniac attack below.

mick

Now Matheewwww
Well if this is a fight for the heart and soul of the GOP (pronounced GAHP or GOHP) then I figure it don't HAVE one and hasn't since The Gipper died and The Senate Borked Newt's Contract with America.

What's the GAHP offer me?? Smaller Government?
Not from HuckYOU and his Education Plan. Not from Mitt and his Detroit Bail Out. From Julieannie who is wrong on Guns, and yqueer marriage? Maybe. From The MacChurian Candidate who is wrong on Shamnesty? Yeah he's spending cut Hawk, but he opposed Tax Cuts, gave us MacFeinianism, and won't drill in ANWR. Not to mention the gang of 14. Not a whole lot here to "pander" to smaller gov.

By the way, Paul Pot's need not apply, he's a Phlatulent earth isolationist and wrong on killn sandnazis...when he starts wanting to wipe em out get back to me.

How about Tax Cuts? Huckyou? Mixed. McCain--blew it. Julieannie? Maybe. Mitt? Maybe.

Strong defense? Both Huckyou now and Mac before the surge beeched about its "conduct".
I want a Commander and Chief that says "we ain't killed near enough of em to satisfy me!"
Mitt? Who knows? Julieannie--maybe.

So much for the heart and soul of the party, but what about the heart and soul of AMERICA?

mick

the real issues
The one issue on which the GAHP can triangulate hillybama on the WRONG side of 70% of America is Immigration. What do the CINO/RINO Goppers (pronounced G OH Ppers--rhymes with gophers)
offer to pander to us EVILgelicals on THAT one?

Now HERE is where we SEE the beating heart of the Party that offered us Shamnesty and Open Borders for the Working Slave Class.

McCain--Shamnesty, Julieannie--wimp, HuckYOU--calls us "fellow Christians "nativists" (which by the way is why THIS EVILgelical ain't ever gonna vote for his Reconquista asz.)

Mitt--maybe.

It's the ONE issue we can WIN on ("electability" blah blah blah) all the system has come up with exactly ONE candidate who MIGHT MIGHT I say have a solid record on it. And (Festus) "Mattheeeewwww" doesn't like him.

Some pandering...but not to ME!

Who is pandering to WHOM here you Gilt Bird Cabin CINOs!!!

mick

soul of America
But let's go back to the hot buttons the Gilt Bird Cabins go so postal on. Where we EVILgelicals do the most harm.

Abortion--not a damn bit of difference on the single biggest lever here--even Pro-Abortion Julieannie promises Scalia like justices.
So what's to choose?

yqueer marriage--newsflash, GBC's, something like 70-90 % of America is WITH US on THIS one--how you gonna ride THAT to the White House?

embryonic Stem cell research--yeah with all the latest science saying it ain't necessary, you got a real election swinger here.
The Christopher Reeve Fan Club will more than replace the votes you loose by dumping the EVILgelicals.

mick

the lever issues
1. security--but that might not be an immediate worry in Nov. ANY GOP is better than Hillybama on THAT so that's not a tipper. Julieannie has a good rep, so does Mac BUT HE IS WRONG ON WATERBORDING so he loses some points.

2 Economy--DEFINITELY--Do you REALLY see No Tax Cuts Mac, HuckYOU or Jullieannie beating Mitt's record on THIS one? I don't. (and don't get me wrong, I don't LIKE Mitt and don't trust his Secret Society LDS asz). People LIKED Slick cause they THOUGHT he gave em a good economy--he screwed EVERYTHING else. You really think Mac or Huck or Julie beats her on THIS one?

3. Immigration---see above. Huckyou and The MacChurian Candidate fail this one miserably.

4. Change--out with the old. Do you see MaCAniac beating Hillybama on THIS one--MAVERIK my Gang of 14, MacFeinianism, SHAMNESTY asz.

mick

Now Mattheeeewwwww finale
Don't take Mattheeewwwsss glee about problem ballots and poetic justice to peg him as a W basher. Just the a priori straw man of the Bush GOP machine and "structure unchanged" was enough to bring out the MaCaniac "maverick" in him.

Far as I'm concerned Matt is a CINO Gilt Bird Cabin Gopper, and his false dilemma a POS.
If this is a "battle for the soul of the party" between the Bushers and the MacChurians then it's a battle between CINO Gilt Bird Cabin Goppers! Between flavors of Socialism LITE!

Ain't a Reagan Conservative in the Bunch--and even Newt has gone commiequeer with Global Warming, replaced by his evil twin.

AIN'T no Conservatives running (PaulPotters need not apply.

The Party has left the building.

big mick

The MacChurian Candidate
Mattheeewww here seems to think it's The MacChurian Candidate or Mitt and the Status quo.

Welll Mattheewwwwww. Macs wrong on Immigration, wrong on anwr, wrong on waterboarding, wrong on taxes, wrong on MacFeinianism, wong on the Gang of 14.

He fails 3 out of 5 big mick pleges below. He is NO Conservative.

If he gets the Nom. I will vote for Hillybama.

I do this because the Gilt Bird Cabin CINO's have compromised us with the moronic mythical moderates up to the very BRINK of Socialism. Mac is just more slow poison by Soicalism LITE.

I wont' swallow another. I'd rather vote hillybama Socialism Straight and hope America chokes on it and pukes it back up in American Revolution Part 3. I'd rather shove the body politic OVER the Socialist cliff and hope something survives the crash to start over.
Socialism lite under Mac and the GOP is just a surer death for being slower. No thanks.
I will NOT take one more baby step down the CINO Gilt Bird Cabin Compromising Socialism LIte road.

your call

the big mick

tea party...hit the nail on the head
not only about romney...but about CONGRESS! even a good president ,no matter who, has to deal with congress which is now the donkeys! but there again...mit had to fight constantly with the liberal looneys of mass.! maybe it was a good training ground for the white house!

elvis

the big mick pledge
My vote goes to the candidate who first takes my pledge:
WIN the War for survival against the Sandnazis on ALL fronts.
DEFEND against the Reconquistas (SEAL the Border, DEPORT ALL Illegals)
RESTORE Constitutionalism by appointing ONLY from a Consensus List of Top Ten Most Strict Constructionist Judges.
REDUCE the size of the FedGov 3% each year of their admin (in real absolute terms, not mere slowed growth)
SECURE my Sacred Franchise with an Iron Clad Fraud Proof voter Registration and ID system.
WIN DEFEND RESTORE REDUCE SECURE
all or nothing, no equivocations, in public and in writing or I vote for Hillybama

Mac fails 2 because of shamnesty. 3 because of the gang of 14. 4 because anwr, gang of 14, shamnesty and most of all his opposition to tax cuts and MacFeinianism shows he is not a "government is the problem" Reaganite don't care how much he cuts spending or says now.
3 out of 5 sinks him.

mick

elvis and tea P
won't disagree, like I say I still don't trust his LDS behind, but he seems to match up with both mine and Tp's check list.

And I repeat, I believe the economy and Immigration are going to be the winning issues.

mac and huck fail the latter utterly. Mitt has it over Julieannie on them.

Polls Shaping the Vote
Polls Shaping the Vote

Concerning polls, it has occurred to me that some people vote according to polls. If the polls were to suggest that their candidate of interest was lagging, that the will be more likely to vote, while others who see their candidate slumping they might think, what is the use.

Another thing plays a role in this, which may create uncertainty and frustration, is where the polls are shaped by the pollsters staff, as has been observed on real clear politics. If for example which has been the most usual, practice is to take the last six polls, and calculate their average percent, and let that stand throughout the cycle up to the vote, with no shaping or manipulating the pattern.

However as I have seen on both the democratic and the GOP side, sometimes they are split by one or two survey batches of data. Sometimes the skip the high batch for a candidate, shaping the results for the both candidate, which brings up the question why? The answer that comes to mind is the surge factor. A lot of people just vote for the winner, and that shapes the outcome.

That does not seem ethical, because it is selective poll results.

Then again the pollsters question, or the survey is loaded with closed end or open ended questions, which will shape the response and that data respectively. Is this not to be considered unethical? So I have discounted polls as a means to determine a valid or solid candidate because they can manipulate most uniformed voters, which in my opinion, they may as well play the lottery, and match the numbers with the candidate. That is not a suggestion, because voting out of ignorance is only a hindrance.

Brett is wrong - no Huck for VP
No Huck on the ticket, thank you. He's a liberal, he's as dumb as a post, and he ran a shabby, divisive, deceptive, religion-baiting campaign. He has major ethical issues, and has so many gaffes piling up that it's hard to remember them all.

He would KILL Romney's chance in the general. My gosh, did you forget that he actually shot a gun off over reporters head, and then said it was a message to Romney "don't get in my way"?

Give me a freakin break, folks! He's as idiot and should not be allowed anywhere near the White House.

Hopefully, this embarrassing episode in GOP election history is coming to an end. I'm afraid history will not be too kind to the Huckster.

To bigmick
Excuse me, but didn't you forget something? Don't you also insist on the right to sit on your front porch holding an assault rifle so you can shoot anybody you don't like the looks of, and then have nobody give you a hard time about it after you've killed him?

LILLY

.....I would only shoot them if they were Liberals .....COLOSSUS

McCain Attacked By Rush and Delay?
Are either Rush or Delay conservative? How much pull do Rush and Delay have with the GOP base?

baseballdoc "lilly" and MMMMark

Right! Because CQ's (remember I refuse to use the "terminological inexactitude" "liberal"--my word is "commiequeer" which is more accurate and semantically correct) insist on BOTHERING folks.
If they stayed OUT of my yard and quit effn with me they wouldn't get shot, n'est c'pas?

I notice "lilly" was pizd by my Pledge but offers no rebuttals. I wonder why she thinks Secure Borders, Lawful Immigration, Traditional Enculturation, Victory against the Forces of Totalitarianism (especially the enslavement of WOMEN), less Government Intrusion into our Liberties, and a Fraud Free Vote are BAD things.

I'd like an explanation from her on that.
Her attitude suggests she is siding with her country's sworn enemies. What does that make her?

Moronic Mythical Moderate Mark--Mick is the traditional slam term for an Irishman. I wear it with pride. Big is because I a FAT mick. Which means, if you read the diet gurus, that my thing that you allude to is smaller than it could be and it weren't nothing to brag on before I GOT Fat. That train's left the station already MM
(you DO know that an MM is a "chocolate" in a hard CANDY shell don't you--you started it)

Again I notice NO rebuttal. Your post suggests I have indeed successfully delineated the NON-CONSERVATIVE aspects of the Candidates and why they are BAD choices. SO bad as to make the "lesser of two evils" false dilemma scam, a non-starter.

Mitt will take Fla. and begin...
to stop the confusion on the more sensible side.

Sanctuary City Regularization Rudy is through... he actually tried hard in N.H. and bombed. His signal issue (fear of terror) has faded in the public consciousness.

RINO Juan McQuisling? The old man wanders off the reservation of reason all over the place buddying up with Teddy the Swimmer, Feingold, and other libs, fighting tax cuts and court appointments-- what's to like?! The liberal MSM praises him precisely BECAUSE he sticks his wagging finger in the eyes of conservatives. Prediction: Mitt will win Fla. and Juan McQuisling will begin to run out of gas. As for Scamnesty, does anybody REALLY believe that McQuisling has changed his posture? He is an open border globalist-- been there, done that w/Presidente Jorge!

Talk is cheap about building the wall and enforcement, but Juan does not really want those things, much less believe in the goals. Like Presidente Jorge, he bought into the open border, "cheap" labor, future voter mantra. Such myopia does not ring true with Middle America, because unlike the rich remote elites, we actually live among the ILLEGALS, and familiarity rightly breeds contempt. McAmnesty CHOSE his path-- now he must live with it. Mitt is certainly not perfect as a candidate (who is?), but Tom Tancredo endorses him on the critical ILLEGAL alien challenge-- that is good enough for me. The left wants to run against the old man-- let's catch them with Mitt instead. The economy will be critical, and Mitt knows business AND being an executive (unlike Shrillary).

note to "moderates"
From my point of view, every time you emphasize the attraction of a candidate for "moderates"
(moronic mythical moderates) you emphasize how much I DON'T want to vote for the guy.

I'll keep saying it till ya "get" it. THIS time a Slow Socialism Lite choice will be SO bad it won't be THAT MUCH WORSE than Socialism STRAIGHT under Hillybama.

I WON'T take the slow poison anymore, I've "compromised" with you "mods" right up to the brink of Socialism and "I've had all I can stands, I can't stands no more!"

If it is a choice between a "moderate" and Hillybama I vote Socialism Straight and hope the body politic pukes her up.

Course if you moronic mythical moderate jelloheads GOT what you're REALLY doing (being led like lemmings into FAR LEFT--though I reject that linear political model--field) we wouldn't be having this discussion.

But understand this. I'M in the TRADITIONAL CONSTITUTIONAL Place NOT right. YOU'RE the one's who've moved so far "Left" that you now think ORDINARY is EXTREME. That's a problem of YOUR perception, not mine.

Put simply--the only thing MODERATE about ya'll is that you put a spritz of bottled water in your Socialism before you swallow it.

Mitt, Mr. President, they go well!
Go Mitt Romney! The one conservative left standing.

Well said Mick! Go Mitt Romney!
He's the best conservative left standing.

lodestar
I'm beginning to agree with you.

Tancredo's endorsement on the WINNING Immigration issue IS KEY!

If we run a Shamnesty Shill we take our most potent triangulating issue OFF the table.

Hillybama is on the WRONG side of 70% of America on that one, we need to be on the RIGHT side.
That looks like Mitt.

And I agree on the economy.

I still think Mitt is a member of a secret society (LDS) and wish he would come clean about their DIFFERENCES from his OWN mouth so I don't have to WONDER, but I'm at the point of willing to take the RISK. Primarily because of Immigration. He nearly SUNK himself with the Detroit Bailout and bigger stimulus--see big mick pledge 4 above.

McCain's economic experience?
John "Little Napoleon" McCain says, "I was around during the Reagan Revolution and I ran a committee so that makes me qualified to run the economy."

Hey John, I was in a room once with our CFO. Am I now qualified to run the finances of our company? Oh, I also shop at Wal-Mart. Guess I now know how to run that company too.

McCain is making a joke of himself and people are starting to laugh.
