Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Maybe the death of an 18-year-old at the hand of a jealous husband will put an end to the rib-poking and television footage of bikini-clad teachers straddling motorcycles or gyrating in garter belts.

Maybe now that 18-year-old Sean Powell is dead, it won’t seem so cool to have had an affair with the hotty high school teacher.

Maybe now that we see the consequences of having the teacher transformed from an authority figure to a cool friend we may question current pedagogical methods.

But probably not, considering who runs our schools. As study after study has indicated, most educators do not emerge from the top tier of college graduates.

These administrators, curriculum devisers, and teacher trainers will continue in their schizophrenic way: by divesting teachers of the authority traditionally endowed to adults—especially those in the classroom—and at the same time being puzzled by student-teacher affairs.

Time was when the teacher was an authority figure, someone to be feared, not a pal, not anyone a teenager would choose to spend time with.

That was a time when parents were held in the same regard.

But today the child rules. Sometimes the child is a six-foot male with raging hormones in a classroom with females in various modes of provocative dress, including the teacher, who does not lecture but holds rap sessions, where each and every opinion from students is given the consideration of that of a panelist at a scholarly conference.

The ethos of relativism dominates the conversation as well. The big sin is to declare a right or wrong. "What's right for you may not be right for me."

Most college students utter this inanity as if a wizard were inside them pulling their vocal chords. This ethic of relativism is so predictable as to be boring and it quashes any meaningful discussion. I hear it over and over from college students: Who are we to judge? Who are we to judge a culture that places its women in seclusion and hides and immobilizes them behind yards and yards of black cloth? Who are we to question ritual suicide? Who are we to question sexual relations between any two (or more) human beings? This is what the college professor is faced with. Continued...

Good points
Hey Mary Grabar....your obviously a well read, intelligent woman, and you make alot of valid points....but I can't help but wonder....have you ever been in a situation where you were tempted sexualy by a younger man? Think about it. How would you personaly stand up to it? How would you fare....oh miss young attractive ,savvy, independant know-it-all? Oh....so are we to assume you are an android? Numb from the neck down? Why surely.

Anyway…..its clear that we can’t trust women over 20 alone with teenaged boys anymore….why not? Our society is literaly bathed in porn….seriously….we swim in it now….thanks to the internet access with one push of an easy, quick, conveineint button, and women are….unlike yesteryear….are partaking of it…..and becoming sexualized by it in a way that our white male
dominated society never dreamt of…..a real Pandoras’ box has been opened as of the past 10
years hasn’t it? My real question is…..why are we all suprised by the results? Wich is the driving force behind what we are witnessing these days with all the female teachers exhibiting the sexual initiative for younger men, and acting on it.
Our society glamorizes the sexualality of the male teen…..with his intense, unstoppable sex drive and curiosity for older sexualy expereinced women….hell hollywood spends every spare moment writing scripts and promoting such sexual encounters between the young lad with the
youthful ability of screwing the older temptress silly (and doing so at the oppurtunity),
and guess what folks….we like it…..and are buying it….we swallow this propaganda hook-line-
and-sinker but we balk at the idea of it really materializing. Whats up with that? Thats the same ignorance that spawns racism.
You put today’s modern woman alone unsupervised in the company of strong, young, virile, curious, strapping athletic young men and your suprised at the outcome. What do you think is
gonna’ happen when you light a match and bring it in close proximity to gasoline? Only one
thing can happen….an explosive situation….I know I played with matches and gasoline as a kid. Found out the hard way. When the foolish and overlooked rules of our system is engaged
( trusting women alone with young but sophisticated male teens for prolonged periods)we unwittingly create an explosive sexual situation….or the potential for such…..and yet we have the unmitigating gall to be suprised at it.
I say we pull our heads out of our own asses and wake up folks.
Indescrimiately throwing otherwise innocent women in prison for their appetite for younger men isn't the answer or solution to the situation we are developing here.

I don't get your post are you saying 88% of
school age children don't.

Are you saying that these students will not
be citizens and working in the "real world."

Although the most recent NAEP showed a drop
in reading and math, the trend over 30 years
is slow, very slow, improvement. BTW, this
trend is mirrored in private school NAEP
testing.

Also, I would mention that the long term trends
in politics over the last 30 years is more
young people registering Republican, although
Democrat registrants still outnumber Republican
registrants the trend has been a narrowing
between the two.
