Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Last week, the secretary-general of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, issued a new warning on global warming that began with this sentence: "We all agree. Climate change is real, and we humans are its chief cause ... we are on the verge of a catastrophe if we do not act."

Just a few days later the United Nations released a new report in which it confessed its previous estimate of AIDS cases worldwide was inflated by more than 6 million sick people. In India alone, the number of AIDS patients estimated by the United Nations dropped by more than half, from 6 million to 3 million.

"They've finally got caught with their pants down," Dr. Jim Chin, a clinical professor of epidemiology at the University of California at Berkeley and a former staffer at the World Health Organization, told The Associated Press.

The old, false U.N. numbers were the result of an obviously bad methodology, especially in India; prevalence rates among women in urban clinics were imputed to the population as a whole, thereby oversampling AIDS-prone prostitutes, addicts and people with multiple sexual partners.

So why did the U.N. scientists go with the bad data? According to professor Chin, U.N. officials were reluctant to admit fewer people were infected because that might translate into less funding to fight AIDS, which continues to devastate millions worldwide.

They fudged the data in order to inspire the masses to good actions, in other words.

As far as I can tell, the United Nations is like just about any other large bureaucratic institution -- a mixed body of people and ideals that does some good and is at least as susceptible to corruption as any other human thing. But in Europe, faith in the United Nations is reaching biblical proportions.

Which is why when the U.N. secretary-general reaches for the language of science to establish an absolute truth (global warming is a human-caused catastrophe) grounded in an obvious falsehood ("we all agree"), I find it creepy.

The statements have the form of scientific assertions, but they are clothed in a spirit of dogmatic certainty that is alien to the culture of scientific endeavor. A climate science that cannot predict the weather a month from now may have strong evidence that global warming exists, is human caused and will be a catastrophe, but it cannot possibly have yet produced a proof about which "all agree."

And yet "the masses," aka the public, must be goaded into right action by their betters' judgment.

Thus, a new faith system is emerging in the world, centered in Europe, but with outposts among the educated in many parts of the world. In his new book "Challenging Nature," Dr. Lee M. Silver, a Princeton molecular biologist, calls this emerging cultural system "post-Christian." While Christian-based cultures see human beings as uniquely moral beings given dominion over the Earth by God (hence the moral qualms about human cloning and embryonic stem-cell research, but not about genetically engineered plants or animal research), post-Christians "are more worried about the flora and fauna," notes New York Times science columnist John Tierney wryly. Frankenfoods, overpopulation, and technological progress created by our invasive species threaten as much fear as they inspire hope.

Post-Christian faith is rooted in fear that "Mother Nature" is weak, vulnerable, and yet full of violent retributive possibilities that must be assuaged by great sacrifices humbly offered by people under the influence of the new priesthood of international regulators.

The United Nations is now the arbiter of truth and our only hope of saving the planet.

Every human being is born with an innate need to have faith in something greater and more powerful than him or herself. Offered a choice, I find it hard to see how a rational person could place his faith in something so checkered as the United Nations.

But then, the heart has its reasons which reason knows not.

We should get out....
We should get the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US. Unelected beureaucrats will never have the best interests in mind of those they view as their servants.

Why do we continue...
...to fund this turkey?

We should at least reduce our contributions to the U.N. to that of any other member nation.

Secondly, we should deny the U.N. staff access to New York City. Relocate the headquarters to Dar-es-Salaam or Albania. They could use the cash infusion. New York doesn't need it.

Credibility....
Maggie Gallagher is a paid mouthpiece for the GOP. Every word she writes has been bought and paid for by the Bush administration.

How's the BBC's credibility? Or Reuters?

I went to Yahoo and typed in "U.N. Aids". Look what popped up.

CNN, November 2003 "U.N.: AIDS deaths, infections at new highs"

CNN, November 1997 "U.N.: AIDS epidemic worse than thought"

USAToday, September 2003 "U.N.: AIDS efforts inadequate"

MSNBC, July 2004 "U.N.: New HIV infections hit record high last year"

And all this time they've been knowingly lying to fleece money out of the United States and other countries.

Brilliant!
A conservative writing at a conservative site. I'm sure if they had something worth saying the "authors" at the huff puff would take a little payola.

And
This "Republican" President wants to hand over the sovereign United States of America to the UN.
Traitors in our government.

Thirty-four Senate Republicans is all that is keeping the United Nation’s “Law of the Sea Treaty” from being ratified and delivering a potential death blow to our nation’s sovereignty, security and prosperity!

Rejected by Ronald Reagan nearly 25 year ago, the treaty remains an albatross that is now only a breath away from an unnecessary law that would place the U.S. under the governing authority to an unaccountable international body—the UN!

After receiving great pressure from the White House the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the treaty by a margin of (17-4) on October 31, leading to speculation that a final ratification vote will take place very soon.

What, you left out the National Enquirer article about Maggie having an alien love child? Not too bright, you, that's your best argument against what she has written, ante.

Alternative?
So who's your guy? There's a better chance that dems will force the "Law of the Sea" treaty down our throats than any of the republicans.

My big question is who will bid higher when Hillary tries to sell the White House, China or Dubai?

Unexamined Assumptions
Wow, so many unexamined assumptions, so little time. So let me just tackle two points....

First, the assumption that because one department of the U.N. is now suspected of bad statistics, then anything issuing from the U.N. is automatically guilty until proven innocent. In fact, the IPCC climate report is very much in line with conclusions reached in recent years by the vast majority of the world’s climate scientists, working in a various countries, in a variety of settings and for a variety of institutions. It is simply one more report—albeit a very comprehensive one with input from 2,500 scientists—adding to a growing chorus.

And finally, after associating environmental concern with a “post Christian faith” (actually some of the most committed environmentalists I know are also committed Christians) Ms. Gallagher attempts to dismiss such concern as irrational (“ the heart has its reasons which reason knows not”). I could easily turn that around and write a satire stereotyping conservatives as worshipers in the “church of the free market,” holding fast to an irrational belief that all economic outcomes are benign if initiated by Invisible Hands, and rejecting as “junk science” any report by any body of degreed specialists that seems to threaten that holy premise.

john...john
Where have you been?
The UN has demonstrated time and time again over the years that it is a corrupt and inept body.
Or have you so soon forgotten the oil for food scandal, to name just one instance?

Bad statistics?
The U.N. is not "suspected of bad statistics". They have ADMITTED to lying about statistics.

There is a difference.

Dude, I thought they repealed the grow-your-own law in Oregon! That last sentence, the likes of which I have not seen since 1967 in the Tibetan Book of the Dead, and that after a fattie, means exactly what? Hello? Can you restate that last sentence in English?

I cannot stand either party any longer

SOME INCONVENIENT FACTS
NASA Debunks Part of Global Warming Myth, Will Media Report It?
By Noel Sheppard | November 14, 2007 - 12:23 ET

Is the National Aeronautics and Space Administration filled with climate change deniers?

Such seems likely to be alleged by hysterical alarmists in the press when and if they read a new study out of NASA which determined that "not all the large changes seen in Arctic climate in recent years are a result of long-term trends associated with global warming."

Goes quite counter to all the recent media reports, as well as assertions by Nobel Laureate Al Gore...

And next week
Stephen Lewis will be at our firm, trying to guilt us into giving up a days pay to fight AIDS.

What a masterpiece of poor timing on the part of the UN.

One Purpose...

The U.N. has one purpose... Fleece America!

Have we seen one agenda item that does not repeat the eternal phrase... "We need Dollars"?

The real shame
The real shame of it all is that science is quickly becoming a convenient whore for politicians. More and more scientists are seeking money not facts.

Man and destiny
__Whether an evolutionist, or creationist, human life developed with humans taking on the responsibility to control their world, their destiny. In the evolutionist world, the earth is warming, and they take steps to slow down the warming process. Using physical efforts to insure physical, human, continuence. In the creationist world, we new it was going to burn, and took steps in our lives to ensure the Creators magnificent creation grew, and multiplied. Its an ancient story, passed from generation, to generation. Those of the world are burning with desire to control a destiny thats in their hands. Those of creation rest in the destiny of their faith in the Creators Word. Listen, and hear, the gnashing of teeth; its a reassuring, and comforting, sound to those of the Word.

AGW dissenters are squished like vermin
and mostly because of the U.N.

They do wield much power over public thought. Old Europe got used to relying on the USA for advanced science, now they prefer to rely on multinational consensus. Since the USA goes skipping right alongside the U.N. - why wouldn't they.

Meanwhile, here in realityworld - I'm saying, "What in the world does a guy from Uganda, Peru, & Inthemiddleofnowhereistan - who recently found out about the invention of the television - know about squat compared to the most advanced civilization on the planet, the good ole U.S. of A.?

Being a "superpower" used to mean a country that leads the world in more areas than just warfare. Now it means a country that is scared of its own shadow and would never dream of offending pipsqueak countries or heaven forbid, terrorist organizations (they are mothers & fathers too).

I liked it better when we could make rational decisions. U.N. - no thanks. AGW - you can keep it. Socialism - still never works. Taxing the crap out of the people equals more investment - in what delusional world? Telling Israel to just give up more of its land and stop defending itself equals peace - yah, that is working real good (wink, wink).

My thoughts
United States out of the U.N.
U.N out of the United States!!

Foolish people
The climate is changing, and it always has. Earth has been in a warming trend since the nadir of the LIttle Ice Age, which was around the year 1500. since then the average temperature has risen at the rate of about .5 degrees Celsius, per century. Currently we are still below the 3,000 year norm, and well below the temperatures that prevailed during the Medieval Climate Optimum. We do not know what caused the average temperature to rise to the high point of the Medieval Climate optimum, which was between the years 1,000 and 3,000 AD, but we can assume it was not the overuse of SUVs.
The current warming trend could continue, in which case, after several more centuries we would be nearing the Medieval Climate Optimum again, when Greenland was actually, green. Then again, temperatures could start to fall again, and we could return to the temperatures of the Little Ice Age, or even the big one.
There is also the fact that CO2 is a weak greenhouse gas, compared to water vapour, and also that historic evidence shows that increases of CO2 in the atmosphere have always lagged rises in temperature, not caused them.
But for some reason, far too many people want to listen to a Divinity School dropout, who has no scientific credentials nor credibility.
Puck was right!

The new time-bomb
When I was a boy, the number one problem that was sure to overwhelm the world in my lifetime was overpopulation. According to the "experts" the world's population was heading towards unsustainability.

There were other, of course, who thought differently. According to them the problem with the world was not simply too many people, but too few people with too much, and too many people with too little.

Nowadays one hardly hears about the population "bomb" anymore.

The new bomb is global warming and the bad news that mankind is leaving to many "footprints" on the global walk-way.

The detractors however, are saying that it is only now that the poorer countries, like India and China, are beginning to claim their piece of the pie, and underdeveloped and "third world" countries are eyeing development and first world status that the world is getting curiously warm.

The population bomb "scientist" were shown to be alarmists. Could the same thing happen to the global warming experts?

I like the quote
"'They've finally got caught with their pants down,' Dr. Jim Chin, a clinical professor of epidemiology at the University of California at Berkeley and a former staffer at the World Health Organization, told The Associated Press."

Did the Useless Numpties ever have their pants UP in the first place?

IMO, no more than their preceding org, Lame Numpties (aka "League of Nations") on whose wreckage UN was built--WITHOUT learning from the failures of the earlier.

Global Warming Scam
Now that the AIDS epidemic is confirmed to be a big lie that kept U.S. dollars pouring into the abyss to line the pockets of the corrupt U.N. officials, we are now going to be "hosed" by the manufactured global warming scare. Another empire in the making to provide "cushy" positions for the elite into perpetuity by fleecing the beleagured American taxpayer.

My favorite T shirt- Top Ten UN Slogans:

10) If an impotent, bloated bureaucracy can't slove it, then it's best left festering.
9) You can't spell "unethical" without U.N.
8) Genocidal dictators, beware our non-binding resolutions.
7) Bringing peace to our world (actual results may vary).
6) Tomorrow's corruption, today.
5) Raising pointless squabbling to an art form.
4) We take bribes, so you don't have to.
3) Try our world famous cheesey fries.
2) If troubles abound, we'll be nearby, doing nothing.

And the #1 slogan:

If this is an emergency, please hang up, and call America.

Enjoy!!

questions
1. Why do people who demonstrably hate our country continue to live here?

2. Why would a rational adult adopt a screen name of a mentally diseased murderer?

3. Who is John Galt?

Objective: UN = World Gvmt
The exaggerated AIDs figures, like the dogma of anthrogenic "climate change," increase the perceived importance and potential empowerment of the UN. In the case of the AIDs epidemic, it was about $$$.

That's why no matter how thoroughly every single hard-science point put forth in favor of the AGW theory gets discredited, they just ignore it & keep right on parroting them, as well as irrelevancies like the supposed 'consensus' and the 2007 Yassir Arafat Attaboy Prize. That's one of the fave agenda-pushing tactics of the Left: ignore the fact you've been discredited & keep right on chanting propaganda slogans to the masses.

The logic of the anthrogenic global warming dogma leads directly to world totalitarianism. This is about using the threat of "global warming' to rationalize world totalitarianism under the UN's auspices, not enacting "regulation" and "conservation" in order to avert global warming.

UN SCUMBAGS
Look at Africa and all the AIDES money we have sent their. Remember reading and seeing on CNN that all the people of Africa are dieing of aides then an article comes out that the Population rate in Africa has TRIPPLED. WOW our tax payers money sure is working their in Africa, do you think they found the cure for AIDES. yeah its in the U.Ns.back pocket just like the FOOD FOR OIL SCANDAL that noone has been held responsible for. I relly love how the LIBTURDS scream that Bush is robbing from the Poor and giving to the RICH. Looks like to me the LIBTURDS would rathber give the money to the U.N than its own people, WHAT A SHAME to be A LIBTURD today.

wbheff
To answer:

1) Because here in the USA they can say pretty much anything they want about our gov't and our country, without fear of reprisal. They can't do this in France or Saudi Arabia.

2) Because he can, and tries to instill shock value. Of course, all he ends up doing is affirming what an idiotic fool he truly is.

3) Don't know, and don't much care.

The Un is proven corrupt
in more than just the oil for food program and the attempted aids scam.. How about the sexual attacks of UN soldiers on people they were supposed to be guarding.

What about the corruption exposed by a whistle blower on the committee that would carry out the Law of the Sea Treaty? Read up on the treaty and learn how much of our soverignty we would relinguish to the UN if this treaty is approved. Call your senators and protest. Write emails. Consider if you want the UN which is full of America hating countries to have say so over fishing rights, taxes on us, mineral and oil rights etc.

What has the UN ever done right?
When was the last time the UN really got something right? Have they ever really accomplished anything?

Did they stop the genocide in Rwanda? How about the ongoing genocide in Darfur? Has the UN brought freedom to oppressed people? How many people has the UN brought out of poverty?

The UN functions pretty well as a debating society. It's about as significant as a junior high student council, but in this case many of the members are thugs, dictators and robber-barons.

YLG
Do find out the answer to the question, "Who is John Galt?" You will look at current events with a new understanding and an old perspective. Happy Thanksgiving.

CVN65
Will do!

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

The UN has perpetuated the Israeli-
Palestinian conflict directly by maintinging--60 years onr--those wretched refugee camps that started in 1948.

Is there any other group in the world still awaiting UN rescue after 60 years in captivity in filthy, smoldering, over-crowded UN-initiated camps?

The UN issued 17 resolutions against Saddam and Iraq after the Gulf War of 1991. With what did they back up those resolutions?

When the US and a coalition of 41 countries went into Iraq to do the UN's business, what did the delegation do there? It fled, because once the Iraqis had been liberated from Saddam, Iraq was "too dangerous" for the spawn of Kofi Annan.

The UN compound is going to spend over 2 billion ($2,000,000,000) in restoration and resonstruction starting soon. We should bulldoze the entire complex into the East River and let Donald Trump develop the land.

It would save NYC over $22,000,000 in security for UN thugs and untold other tens of millions in unpaid parking tickets, ignored misdemeanor summonses, and nuisance attention the representatives generate each year.

Socially, we would be saved visits from enemy fascists like Ahmadinejad and moral preaching from criminals like the former PLO pres. Arafat and the dying despot Castro, both of whom were treated like royalty by UN sycophants.

America Has The UN To Thank For
...getting us into several wars. Great Brittan and other countries have them to thank for the same reason.
You Liberals have accused President Bush of declairing war without a vote from Congress, what do you think of the US going to war (Korea, for instance) at the request of the United Nations WITHOUT the US Congress voting on it?

PS: If you have no trouble with it, you invalidate your argument against the Iraqi war since we went in to support UN MANDATES AND RESOLUTIONS.

For loco
Methinks you are mistaken in terming UN corruption as "proven" or "exposed"--as it has been an open-secret from the get-go in 1945.

JeffreyP @ 14:17
Excellent post--on the nail!

A crude explanation of why the Useless Numpties have never done anything right--they basically built on wreckage of Lame Numpties (after WW2) and didn't learn from Lame Numpties' errors, instead worsening these by adding their own over a period more than twice as long (62 years of UN vs 27 of LN)!

2500 Scientists???
Less than half those are scientists and not all climate related. The head of the IPCC is an INDUSTRIAL Engineer from India. Several noted climatologists quit the IPCC because they were told to "green up" their conclusions. The IPCC is a joke!
