What was the biggest suprise of Election Day?

Watching media coverage of the Scooter Libby guilty verdict this week often left me feeling like I was living in an alternate universe. In the fairy tale world of liberal news, the old sing-song campaign line Al Gore once used about everything that should be up is down and everything that should be down is up, comes to life.

In this other world, the fact that Libby was not tried for leaking Valerie Plame’s name, but rather for perjury and obstruction of justice, was not viewed as an indication no illegal leaking occurred, but rather that Karl Rove and “the others” should have been there instead.

Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s statement that he did not expect any additional charges to be filed was not seen as evidence that Valerie Plame was not illegally outed. Instead it was portrayed as vindication of Joe Wilson and his claims that his wife’s name was intentionally leaked by a vindictive administration. In this liberal fantasyland Wilson, who has been shown time and time again to have engaged in falsehoods, is treated as not only a hero, but as a credible news source.

In liberal fantasyland, George Bush is not only the “biggest terrorist in the world,” as Cindy Sheehan proclaims, but Bush and his administration are the only people who said Saddam Hussein possessed WMD. In liberal media land, John Kerry never said “"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein…the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real." Nor did Nancy Pelosi say, “Saddam Hussein has been engaged in the development of weapons of mass destruction technology which is a threat to countries in the region and he has made a mockery of the weapons inspection process.

There Ted Kennedy didn’t say (in 2002), “We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction," nor did Al Gore say (also in 2002),"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country." No, in liberal newsrooms across America, “Bush lied” about weapons of mass destruction. That is the official story and they are sticking to it.

I should be able to maneuver through liberal la-la land by now – I visit it often enough when watching network and cable news shows. I still have to do a reality check from time to time though because the facts that are ignored by the liberal media are not limited to those involving the Bush administration and the war in Iraq. The fantasies extend to stories on various subjects.

In this fantasy world, some things that would not make sense anywhere else, are accepted without question. Al Gore, who flies around the globe in private jets spewing greenhouse gas-producing exhaust and lives in multiple energy-gobbling mansions, lectures others to use florescent light bulbs and drive electric cars and is hailed for his good works on behalf of the environment.

John Edwards, who lives in a 28,000 square foot home, and owns a beach house on a gated island off the coast of North Carolina, lectures his fellow citizens that “Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs.”

Bill Clinton, who admitted to lying under oath in a sexual harassment lawsuit, is held up as a champion for women’s rights. Clinton, who has been accused not only of unwanted groping, but of rape, and who tried to portray the intern with whom he had an ongoing sexual relationship as a lying stalker until DNA evidence surfaced, is adored by liberal feminists.

Jimmy Carter, who referred to the terrorist group Hamas as “so-called terrorists,” and who lost over a dozen advisors from the Carter Center over his anti-Israel book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, is still frequently described as the best "former President" ever and is treated as an unimpeachable authority on the subject of the Middle East.

After submerging myself for hours in network and cable news coverage of stories like the Libby verdict or the war in Iraq, I almost understand why so many Americans are much more interested in following the story of Anna Nicole or the newly bald Britney Spears. In some ways, they are closer to reality than the coverage of political stories we are getting.

The Plame Game...
Don't tell 'em that, Doc – they'll only get upset. Val sent Joey on a wee holiday and if he didn't want anyone to know who he was then he shouldn't have written to the paper. Naughty, bad, silly man.

Scooter is a man of great integrity and you should be grateful for his years of selfless service. So there.

This messsage was brought to you by the tooth fairy.

Cheers

Elroy.

Plame didn't send or recommend husband!!!
Wow, Plame has testified under oath that she did not choose or recommend or have the authority to send her husband on the Niger trip!!!
