Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Get ready folks: America is about to own a car company. As of Monday, we the taxpayers will own more than 70 percent of GM. Whether the company will be formally renamed Government Motors remains to be seen. But that’s what it will be.

Instead of putting the failed car enterprise into bankruptcy six months ago -- where Carl Icahn or Wilbur Ross could have bought it -- the Bush administration chose Bailout Nation. Under Team Obama, that bailout has morphed into full-scale government ownership. Twenty-billion dollars of TARP money is already invested in GM, with another $50 billion on the way. And that number could easily double unless GM car sales miraculously climb back to 14 million this year. That’s highly unlikely, with car sales presently hovering around 9 million a year.

In other words, taxpayers are not going to get their money back. Yes, we the people will be left holding the bag for the mistakes of GM’s management and labor leaders over the last four decades.

And with CAFE mileage-standards ratcheting up -- all while GM is going down -- Team Obama’s green vision for the economy will soon be crystal clear. With President Obama in the driver’s seat, we’re going to get little green two-door cars that most folks won’t want to buy.

Even worse, UAW chief Ron Gettelfinger has made it plain that his powerful union won’t let these cars be manufactured in low-cost non-union plants overseas. The result? Obama’s little green cars are going to be unprofitable as well.

But it’s the bigger picture that has me most concerned. What does Government Motors say about the direction of the United States? Historically, we don’t own car companies --or banks or insurance firms. But we do now. Tick them off on your fingers: GM, Citi, AIG. Oh, and let’s not forget Fannie and Freddie, those, big quasi-government, taxpayer-owned housing agencies. California is broke and likely headed to bankruptcy. Will we the taxpayers own that, too?

Altogether, we’re talking about hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars that will never be repaid. This is the stuff the Italians used to do, and the Brits before Thatcher, and the Soviets a long time ago. But it’s something very new and very different for America.

Is this onslaught of government ownership an attack on free-market capitalism? Yes it is. Call it Bailout Nation or Ownership Nation, it’s an unprecedented degree of government command, control, and planning, all in the name of a tough economic downturn.

I don’t pretend to know all the answers to GM’s problems. Neither do I know all the miscues of the banks and insurance companies. But I do know this: The present level of government control over the economy does not bode well for this great country.

When I sat down with former Vice President Dick Cheney for a CNBC interview this week, I asked him about all this. He wasn’t happy. Of course, many of these policies began during the Bush-Cheney administration, and Cheney didn’t deny it. But when I asked if he anticipated the current degree of government control, he gave me another honest answer, as is his custom: No.

Regarding the banks, Cheney said the bailout work was done over at the Treasury (under Henry Paulson), and that no critical studies were performed by the White House. Cheney himself opposed the GM bailout, preferring Chapter 11 bankruptcy. He did sign on to the TARP bailout of banks as a stop-gap measure. But he didn’t anticipate its eventual size, scope, and sweep. Then, squarely acknowledging the mistake, he compared Bailout Nation to Nixon’s wage-and-price-control program, which touched every enterprise in America. He called it “a terrible mistake; a huge mistake.” By implication, Cheney suggested that the original Bush bailout program was itself a big mistake.

As for Nixon’s wage-and-price-control policy, the former veep reminded me that “we finally got out of it, but it took a long time to do it, and it [did] a lot of damage.”

Cheney was very critical of Obama’s big-government spending-and-borrowing policies, too, telling me that there are only two ways out: inflating the money supply or big tax increases. He doesn’t like either. Yes, Cheney believes Obama has taken Bailout Nation and government stimulus way beyond anything the Bushies ever contemplated. Nevertheless, the damage is done.

Cheney recalled Bush having said that “we have to suspend free-market capitalism in order to save free-market capitalism.” So the big question is this: How long before we resurrect free-market capitalism, and how much damage will current policies do in the meantime?

I won’t lose my faith in this country’s long-term future. But the issue of how much damage we sustain before returning to the policies of free-market economic growth is very much on my mind.

And another thing...
Gov't Mtrs will need tons more cash to develop the cars the government wants. Where will this money come from? The government. What is the incetive to make a profit?
And what about Ford Mtr Co? They now have to compete against Gov't Mtrs while the government is making up the rules and is getting money from the government. How long before the government owns Ford? Imagine just one big US car company putting out little green cars at the low cost of $80,000 plus the new Value Added Tax!

THERE it is!
"I" drive a Prius hybrid. I am good. I am not the problem, you are. I am so sick of you self-righteous greenies.
Geesh, you sound like that idiot Will Farrell in the Saturday Night Live skit screaming out " I drive a Dodge Stratus"!
But to answer you question, I drive a WHITE Honda civic that gets 35MPG. I also drive a Harley Davidson (its black until BigassO makes me paint it white)and it gets 50MPG. I also drive a F150.

Sol_Invictus
You drive a Prius?
Nice. You have 1.8 AH 240V Nickel-Cadmium battery pack which will need to be replaced at a cost of $3000.00 every 5 to 7 years (given the hard charge/discgarge behavior of the motor/generator, expect 5 years before serious charge capacity degradation). How many miles will you have to drive it before the MPG savings equal the energy cost of making those batteries? How much gas mileage improvement will you need to compensate for the battery cost? And where are you planning on putting those ROHS prohibited batteries when they are dead? You'll have to recover the cadmium,
and that will take energy.

On the other hand, the Ford Fiesta gets 76 MPG (European specs, so Imperial gallons) with the lowest carbon dioxide per kilometer driven rating in Europe.

But we can't get it in the US because of CAFE standards: It's a diesel.

But VW can import the same diesel technology at 40 MPG (US gallons) and the Feds allow it.

Gotta wonder.

Oh, does your Prius get better than 76 miles to the imperial gallon?

the problem, the solution
Sol: You are the PROBLEM unless you support increased energy production. Do you support building nuclear plants and reprocessing nuclear fuel? Do you support drilling in ANWR and on the continental shelves? Do you support coal-to-gasoline technology? Do you support extracting shale oil?

If you don't, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM. (I assume you do support producing biofuels more advanced than corn ethanol; that is also part of the solution.)

Oh, by the way, every automobile I have ever owned (I'm 56 years old) has been a 4-cylinder compact or subcompact. I currently drive a 2003 Saturn Ion. But that doesn't make me part of the solution. The solution is to produce more energy.

What We Must Do
A country that kneels before an inner city gangster and trades its freedom for the meager necessities like a slave must accept what their new master deems appropriate.

Americans will adapt to tiny cars and substandard conditions while their ruling elites are chauffered in stretch limousines to their private jets, stocked with fine foods and expensive wines as they are flown high in the clouds to exotic locales from which they will order us to turn out our lights so as not to bother the polar bears.

This is the lot of slaves. Slaves dare not presume to make demands of their masters. Do not offend the eyes and hears of our representatives with your petty complaints. It is burdensome to rule over slaves. We must not upset them or they will take more stuff away from us.

No sale
The best jobs to get into in the next few years will be used car, truck and SUV sales,in addition to auto techs and body and paint men due to the fact the American people WILL NOT buy these overpriced s##tboxes.People will keep their old vehicles and have them refurbished to extend their service life.

Too late
Larry, buddy, it's too late. The horse has left the barn.

The only thing that American "producers" can do is relocate to the South. Low taxes and we won't punish your for wanting to keep your earnings.

Then we'll shove off the rest of the leeching, infected country. Think of Texas as "New America."

But my biggest quandry with this proposed solution: if all the producers ("hosts") relocate to the South, who will be left to feed the leeching liberals ("parasites")?

Might have a third-world humanitarin crisis on our hands requiring the "help" of the brain-trust at the UN (pronounced: the "un").

It's very simple
Americans who care about the future of this country must never but a GM or Chrysler again. They must aso avoid Ford as they are union made. Doing business with any unionized country just has you paying for your own enslavement. Every union member means more power for the socialists as the unions buy these politicians.

Stop shopping at union grocery stores, do not use UPS or the Postal Service, do not buy anything manufactured in a union shop, and abandon the public schools. Granted this is only a start, but we can also choose not to do business with Citibank, AIG, etc.

If you have any money to invest do so in hidden assets or foreign companies and markets.

And remember everytime you make a purchase you are paying taxes to the government so think long and hard before you spend any money.

Stalinist USA - competition killed
What is going to happen is that GM will now lobby for tougher rules and regulations so that other car companies cannot compete, and NOW they have Comrade President Obama on to help with that. Think the Govt. is going to allow other companies to compete against it? And WE will pay twice as much for cars because there will no longer be competition. It's getting to that point, folks --

Get the whip and chains out, Mr. President. Lash me across the back a few times, Dear Leader.

To Eric and Others
Yes, it's likely that Americans will adapt to new, overpriced, government designed malfunctioning cars by keeping their old cars and maintaining them forever. Perhaps we'll look like Cubans who still drive 1950s cars because that's all they have.

Pre-communist USA cars will command high prices as Americans avoid the communist cars. Then our government will respond by first mandating high cost pollution checks, annually. If we continue to resist, we'll be offered incentives such as tax credits to by the new clown cars. Then we'll be assessed "old car" taxes, and finally we'll be required to turn them in or face confinement in eco-labor camps, behind barbed wire with Obama speeches blarring over loudspeakers while we're guarded by minority trustees with AK-47s.

Eventually, real Americans will have to relocate to friendly sovereign states. We'll Balkanize like any crotch of the globe third world s**thole failed nation. We'll post armed security forces at the borders and shoot anyone from the "other side" like we see done in Iraq.

Why in God's name did we permit the end of Anglo-Americanism which took America out of the wilderness of barbarism and into the land of plenty? Now we have to go through another Dark Ages, (literally) until someday, maybe, some group will reinvent Western Civilization.

Until then, all of us must be heavily armed so we don't end up at the Superdome.

To JD's Handsome Son
Re "America kneels before an inner-city gangster": in case you're talking about Obama I wanted to offer you a free lesson on the geography of Chicago. Chicago is divided into many many neighborhoods, all of which have names. Obama lives in a neighborhood called Hyde Park. Yes, much of Chicago's South Side is a mess, but Hyde Park is like a lovely island in the middle of the South Side. It's where the University of Chicago is (not a city school---a private one, very prestigious, expensive, and hard to get into; on the level of Harvard and Yale). The University sets the tone for all of Hyde Park, which is definitely not "inner city". The older homes---Obama owns one---are huge and elegant, mostly dating from around 1910-1930. They sell in the range of $1.5-$4 million. Streets are tree-lined. The University controls commerce, so there isn't much, just enough restaurants, grocery stores, and book stores to supply a university community. There are many churches as well as at least two seminaries that I know of (schools where ministers are trained). When you walk around Hyde Park what you mostly hear is quiet. The streets are lined with big old trees. This is, more than anything else, a neighborhood of bookworms. PS Where did you get the idea that Obama was from the inner city? Just curious; I hope you answer. It's interesting that you would think that.

Want to see an abomination?
Check out the Honda Insight. The Civic Hybrid was a fairly decent CAR not just a good hybrid. It was raved about by the car press as being what the Smugmobile (Prius) SHOULD have been.

It lagged badly in sales behind the Smugmobile. Why? Because the flying double door stopper profile of the Smugmobile is unmistakable from any distance. The typical Smuggie owner was a pony-tailed aging rich hippie in CT or Westchester Counrty NY who wanted everyone to KNOW he was driving a hybrid and "saving the planet".

You can see their expression. "Look at me! I'm a much better person than you." Barf!!!
Just like the lead characters on the new ABC series the Goode Family. They can't just drive a hybrid and stew in their smug self-righteousness. Noooo. They had to paint "hybrid" in 2 foot tall letters on the sides.

Soli Del Gloria!!

Government-controlled private industry
is commonly known as fascism.

Government-OWNED industry is known as communism.

So, this country is somehwere along the arc between fascism and communism.

Nice to know.

Me? I'll stick with my Nissan Pathfinder, a completely nifty Japanese SUV, 260HP, 4WD, air conditioned, 6 cylinder gas-guzzling joy to drive that'll blow away just about anything on the road except a high-performance sports car.

The rest of you guys can buy the upcoming American POS cupholder-sized underpowered overpriced road-gnats.

Just stay out of the fast lane on the freeways if you don't want to get squashed like a bug on a windshield.

fools on the bandwagon, or ?
The whole idea of giving home loans to people who can't pay them back, which started this whole thing, seems deliberate, in hindsight.
People in the loan business are not that ignorant. So if our economy unravels because of them, it will be some solace to see those responsible punished. And an insult if they are not punished.

Savior Vans and Debtorado Pickups
Conservatives will not buy a car where $500 of every purchase goes to the DNC via the labor unions. So, the only way to save the new company will be to name it Obama Motors, which could give it quite a boost for two years or so, until the moonbats and Obamatons realize that their little Savior Vans, Swaggerstick Convertibles and Debtorado Green-Duty Pickups are cr*pping out faster than the Annointed One's economic plans and curly black hair.

Eric From Texas re secession
I'd love to see secession. I don't think Texans would be afraid of nuclear power. We'd work our own oil deals with Mexico, and with low taxes, we could begin to pick and choose who we let move here. I'm thinking $500,000 buys one citizenship post secession.

We chase out the illegals, and like AZ, rents go down and wages go up. Meanwhile, the rest of America can bail out New York and California for their greedy, selfish ways.

GM sucks
Honda all the way.

All GM cars and trucks look the same. The are junk.

OWNERSHIP
WITHOUT SELLERSHIP!
Sound familiar? Like TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION?
If one 'owns' something, one has the Right to sell it. At least. we USED to have that Right.
We the People 'own' NOTHING.
If the government can STEAL our hard-earned dollars and 'charge' us trillions of dollars more, there is nothing to stop them from 'stealing' our property and estates to repay what they have 'indebted' us for.

Little Green Dollars
In the next few years it will take more little green dollars to buy little green cars because of the pending inflation that will be derived from Obama’s TARP and Stimulus policies. In addition, the Fed will continue with its printing of billions of little green dollars that will add to the pending inflationary environment.

It’s unfortunate, but the American taxpayer and voter will have to suffer more financial pain before they come to realize that living under an Obama and Congressional socialized government is not conducive to their individual freedom or financial health, including those of their posterity.

Sol,
I drive a Ford E350 van. It gets 8 miles per gallon.
You know what?
It's none of your F'ing business what I prefer to drive mister solution a-hole.

Illlilly
Why don't you go a few blocks further south to the blackstone ranger neighborhood. Is that nice and bookwormy enough for you. Take a walk down down the gunshot and scream echoing streets. Please avoid the criminals who would assault, rob, rape, and maybe murder you though. Stick to the intelligent non-inner city inner city types.
You're a fool to project hyde park as chicago.

They can have my 1996 Towncar...
...when they pry it out of my cold, dead hands. The finest car I have ever driven(And I bought it used in 2003)!.I have no idea what kind of mileage it gets, and I still don't care!My widow can bury it with me when I check out.The government can keep the little green kiddie cars.

As for secession, the issue was decided in 1865.Secession lost.Live with it.The Constitution says what the Supreme Court says that it says, and it doesn't say anything else. You can live with that, also.

Obama's Agenda
I wonder how much of this has to do with Nancy Pelosi's veto-proof majority on pushing green cars, and the failed Pelosi economic policy since she took over the country in 2007.

The sad thing is the auto industry is being destroyed as Obama mandated a "if you don't subscribe to our little green car philosophy, we'll seize you and bankrupt you" idea.

Ford got off scot-free for subscribing to this without force.

My old man gave me some
good advice coming up..buy the biggest, heaviest car out there and hang the gas mileage, your life is worth more than a few cents saved.

I'll be damned if I'll drive down the interstate eyeballing the axles in a semi that could roll over me and not feel the bump.

I'm sick of this gov't intervention and have been for decades, this fool has to be impeached and the congress who supports this insanity run out of town next time....we will never unwind what this commie IlDuce is planning, never.

They are destroying the greatest country with the best system ever designed by man. Wake up America, you elected a communist.

Hmmmm
I will never own a Chyrsler or GM again. And i own a Ford Ranger now and i wish it was diesel like how they sell it over in Malaysia.

Never going to buy one of the green auto.s period. If it is forced on me then i am moving outside the US.

I drive a classic Mustang
I'll only give it up if some idiot runs into me and reduces it to shreds.

*Green* cars have never been more than 1% of the market. Even if that doubles and triples, neither GM nor Chrysler can survive.

Both will be gone in months and the O Land minions left with nothing but grumpy unemployable UAW workers. And good riddance.

Little Green Cars
I have a response for Reply #2, Sol_Invictus, who claims to be part of the solution for driving a Prius. Here in Texas, the battery on a hybrid Ford was replaced under warranty. The cost written off by Ford was $8,000. Did Sol_Invictus check the replacement cost for a Prius battery before he bought it? How would you like to try to sell your hybrid once it is out of warranty with everyone knowing that a battery replacement is several thousand dollars. And for those who think Ethanol is a solution, to produce one gallon of ethanol requires one gallon of gasoline or diesel plus 1,700 gallons of water. And then the ethanol gets worse gas mileage than the gallon of gasoline or diesel to produce it. Ethanol damages the ecology and makes no sense to anyone but the agribusiness corn producers getting tax money.

mr_sparky
The thought of buying GM or Chrysler makes me ill. Its Ford or foreign. And i am uncomfortable with allowing emotion to enter into selection of a new car. This whole Obama deal has led to feelings of alienation and separatism. He is not a uniter, he has exacerbated the separations and divisions in our country. Government intrusions and professed intentions to implement equal outcomes for unequal inputs inspire resistance at every level. I do not want to feel alienated from fellow Americans, but i do. Its come to us against them. What a bummer.

Who Would?
Would you buy a GM or Chrysler? No! Not unless the Messiah put Biden and Barney Fwank in charge of the "companies." Here comes a wee green car and a pickup truck down a two-lane road at 55 miles per hour - in opposite directions in twilight. Who will get to heaven or hello first?

Little green cars?
And who will buy them?
If GM takes muscle cars and humungous pick-em-up trucks and large SUVs off the assembly line, they are doing the country some good. That should allow them to focus on mid-sized cars that are adequately powered and outfitted. That could also allow them to manufacture SUVs and Pick-em-up trucks powered by compressed natural gas. Done properly, their market could return.

What is our "exit strategy?"
Obama has claimed on multiple occasions that he "does not want to be in the automobile business". My questions is, now that we the taxpayers 'own' 70% of GM what is his strategy to get us out of it and get us our money back? Or, will he just keep dumping more and more billions of our money into it to keep it afloat to appease his beloved UAW? He has a bunch of his moronic cronies that don't have a clue as to how to run a business making crucial business decisions about an industry they know NOTHING about. I've read, some of them don't even drive! So they are supposed to successfully bring GM back from the brink? Them and the union???? Another stunning example of the arrogance of this administration.

If Sol_Invictus really cared...
...or if any greenie did.
They would:
1. Elect not to drive at all (and choose not to be smug about it).

or,

2. Off themselves. Living means breathing, which exhudes CO2, and means consuming, which means C02 and other pollutants.

Cmon greenies, prove you care!!!

Who will buy the cars?
You and I will! I mean the government will buy them. It is like the government buying their own bonds. May be the feds can give each poor family a new car. What can we do? I hate this change. I have no Hope!

Tiny AND expensive! Oh Boy!
Kudlow should have titled this article "Little Green Cars at $50,000 Apiece". It looks like the Chevy Volt will come in around $50K. And this new tiny car that GM wants to build (the one they were originally going to make in China for import to the US) will be about the size of a Fiat...tiny tiny. But, no word on the cost yet. I'm sure it' will be surprisingly high.

But, not to worry. Once GM trots out it's tiny and expensive new line, nobody with buy the things and the govt will jump in with subsidies and tax incentives (funded by either more borrowing or higher taxes) to get people to buy them.

This is...
beyond disturbing. The article link below addresses the intentional chaos inducement you see unfolding under Obama--it's well reasoned and documented. Just read it and ask yourself whether the dots are better connected now in your understanding as to why the Dems are engaging in behaviors that appear to be contrary to the interests of a stable and commercially vibrant America.

It was virtually impossible to find out anything regarding Obama's years at Columbia U during the campaign. Now we know why. The connection between Obama and these Columbia radicals is undeniable.

http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/09/barack_obama_and_the _strategy.html

Wake up, America, or die in your sleep!!

Another Car Company...
Remember there was one before this one! http://theblacksphere.blogspot.com/2009/05/obama-appoints- himself-ceo-of-chrysler.html Read about this one as you will crack up!

Who gets future GM cars?
One thing American auto owners do not do is buy orphan cars that have no resale future. But, because we can't afford to let the UAW down...we must insure that production keeps up with free or minimal cost cars for the poor who need them!

So, GM will go on for as long as Obama is President and has a Congress that has no time to read his submitted laws, but enough to add their special earmarks, before rubber stamping their ok.

Any other possibility?

No, Larry
The Obambacrats will own a car company. The best Americans can hope for is that Obambacrats will use a condom when they impose it on us.

tgwwhale #5: corn ethanol is definitely part of the problem, being more polluting that pure gasoline.

Marie #36: To reword your question: How soon will Barack and the Obambacrats dump the useful idiots in the unions?

Chip #15: The responsible people are the liberal politicians who won't be punished but rewarded. Sorry

Fantasy Control #16 & 17: The Obambacrats will be in stretch limos, not the crapmobiles, and they'll only see others stuck, not them, and they won't care. That's $500,000 in a currency with value.

They ought to print all new with Dumbo's picture on it, so we can tell which money had some value from Dumbo Dollars which will have no value.

Dr Chaz
Thanks for posting that link..fantastic reading material.

Prediction
When the new greenmobiles prove impractical and unsaleable in this country, the government will unload them in China for a hefty discount against our debt that they hold. It will, of course, be seen as a brilliant and far sighted strategem by our glorious leader.

TOO BIG TO FAIL
Like unicorns, "too big to fail" doesn't really exist, outside the fevered brains of Washington insiders. And if it did, the proper response is to cut it up into constituent parts that individually are not "too big to fail". Like all massive government projects, GM and Chrysler are now doomed. But of course, since politicians cannot allow "failure" to be used in the same sentence with their names, the ultimate crash of GM and Chrysler will be called something else. I wonder what new words the lexicographers will invent to describe this phenomenon.

Cloward-Piven
To Dr. Chaz: Regarding the link you posted: I came across this article last year and have forwarded it to many people since then. I do believe that this exactly what is going on. I also believe that Obama is a full-fledged Communist and that his nomination and election had been planned for many years. For him to come out of nowhere and suddenly be President....there is just no other logical explanation. There are too many people in this country who just don't understand what is happening, who have no knowledge of what it is really like to live under Communism, because nobody ever told them. I was born right after World War II and over the years have had the opportunity to personally become acquainted with some who lived under the old Communist rule and escaped to come to this country. One woman told me about how both her mother and sister disappeared overnight for daring to speak against the government in East Germany. She never saw them again. She herself finally escaped by bribing a border guard with sex and money.
This could happen right here.

We Need A New Birth Of Freedom
American businesses are suffering from the lack of a commodity that should never be in short supply in America: freedom. Despite the idotic claims of Leftists that the business world has been a wild frontier that left heaps of bodies in its violent wake, the truth is that American industry has been infiltrated by creeping socialism for a century. The industries with the biggest problems just happen to be the ones that have endured the greatest level of government interference. Americans are desperately in need of a new birth of freedom that sheds the layers of bureaucratic control over their lives.

Little Green Cars
I still have my little 1966 Barracuda and it's still going strong at 174,000 miles. My wife and I recently took the Route 66 tour driving from Houston to Chicago then old Route 66 to L.A. and return to Houston via I10. 5800 miles all the way in three weeks.

It isn't green but is Citron Gold.

Kathy, I agree
I too know several people from Poland and other Iron Curtain countries who have had terrible experiences under communism and every other ism of the time. Some had enough trauma that they resist talking about those times: Children turning in parents for hoarding food or wasting resources, forced volunteerism of children undereducated and kept busy building hiking trails and laboring in state-run daycare centers, control of all media, percution of intellectuals and dissidents, and so on.

The Left in this country disbelieve or deny that Obama is a communist. They admit only that he is a Social Democrat, rather like the benign leaders in Scandinavian countries, and that we will have some sort of utopian womb-to-tomb socialism.

You and I know that is NOT how Obama operates. He is running full throttle to take away people's freedom. Socialized medicine will have us all under the government's thumb, or jackboot, as our lives will be on electronic records for the government's convenience in spying on us. There are already neighborhood cells of communists keeping track of who supports Obama and who cannot be trusted.

Obama was cultivated for this role by communists. His shady past is still not fully exposed, but enough is known to cause alarm---records sealed, years of his adult life unaccounted for, unsavory thugs of the Left including racists and terrorists as close friends...What began as whispers of Manchurian Candidate have made their way into mainstream conversation, and the concerned citizens seem not so far wrong. Who is this man?

Remember the Yugo....
and all the other products of government-run industry.

I agree with Eric from NJ, the hottest industry in years to come is going to be used car, truck & SUV sales.

Buy now and save!
You had better buy your cars now and save them for the future! Think about that!

Ludlow: Little Green Cars
Oh, no. A fate worse than death. How can
anyone be macho in a little green car?

If
you drive a Prius 70mph down the interstate, it will get only 38mpg. Also the batteries can wear out after 60,000 miles.

Buying a Prius can be like buying steaks and using them for stepping stones.

Ford
I own a Chrysler 300, I love it! Best car I ever owned!
However, and I cannot emphasize this enough, I will never, EVER buy a Chrysler or GM product again.
As long as this is a free country, and I am free, I will not support any Company that is wholly or partly owned by our government, or any other! Period!
I am not alone in this.. We must make a statement, and make the death of GM, Chrysler, and the bailed out banks and others, FINAL, ASAP. And push to keep the meddlers in washington from screwing it up again! Only then can we get back to the promise of the American Dream. This administration must get the message. the sooner they do, the better for our children!

The Dumb CAR
You can Buy this new exciting 2 cycle ,powerful 25 horse power ,
Government sponsored mini Obama Mobil Green Cars coming to a Federal Government Show Room near you early next year . Of course it helps if your a midget or 4'10" tall and weight 79-89 Lb.s and don't wear big coats . You'll enjoy the Car far more if you only buy one very small bag of Groceries at a time or when taking week vacations only take alone one change of under draws and socks all neatly folded to save space .
Of course adding a case of ice downed beer and a snack is out of the question .
Warming ...... You will go up high hills quite slowly (almost the pace of walking ) will require lots of Patience and anger management classes .
It helps if you don't mind pushing these Cars either until you reach the top of the hill .It helps if you have a dumb very strong friend .
The media obviously didn't poll as to Obama's continued greatness . These Comments are beyond hostel !

Question " Why are all Greens, Tree Huggers ,Media and Far left Liberals on The left jumping on the band wagon to Buy GM Cars now since they have only bought foreign Cars for the last 25 years and all of them hated a big time Capitalist Co. like GM with a passion ? After all They all Laughed at the GM tiny Saturn .
I know , Silly Question !
Facts - A Tin car like this going 35 Miles a hour hitting a large Road Sign ,Road barrier or medium sized Rock ,
big bush or small tree means your dead . How about Two of these Tin made Cars running at 20 Miles a hour in a school zone equaling 40 Miles a hour ) not even hitting head on would mean instant death or you and your loved ones at least would be crippled for life .
How about a large Gust of Wind on a busy highway ? Two-Three feet left or right and you and other mini tin cars as well beside you and would be history as well . Although this would hardly be the clash of the Tin Titans now would it .

Question Sam?
You stated:
"Why are all Greens, Tree Huggers ,Media and Far left Liberals ...only bought foreign Cars for the last 25 years"

Were Obama08 stickers standard equipment on the Prius?

Tammy
"Oh, no. A fate worse than death. How can
anyone be macho in a little green car?"

Great, next time you need drywall or lumber or a major appliance delivered, you can strap it on to the roof of your little green car.

Sam
"Facts - A Tin car like this going 35 Miles a hour hitting a large Road Sign ,Road barrier or medium sized Rock"

Or as a fellow I know in Texas put it, "yeah, I can look down on my wife's casket and say 'I'm sorry honey, but we did save 15 mpg."

Let's face it,
if this little nightmare will cause the liberal obamabots to consider buying a domestic car, there might be a silver lining.

It might also force the Dems in Congress to remove the penalties and restrictions they placed exclusively on cars built by Americans.

Will single females find it fashionable to own a car brand that doesn't end with a vowel?

Will liberal extremists now cease their love affair with Hitler created car companies?

Even if something slightly positive comes of this, I'll continue to mourne the death of a rich slice of our history, Pontiac.

Are traditional American cars safe?
Yes, they use crappy foreign cars as crumple zones.

Sol_Invictus

"Me, I drive a Prius hybrid since 2001. i am part of the solution. I bet you guys are part of the problem."

Aren't you special. You're making the assumption that there IS a problem that you're helping to solve.

Little Green Car

Just don't park that sumbitch on a wad of chewed bubblegum. You won't be driving anywhere!

Why Buy?
Why would anyone purchase a G.M. product? If the product doesn't meet the needs of the consumer, it won't sell. Whether it's called General Motors, or Government Motors, ultimately it's going to be G.G.M. (Gone & Goodbye Motors.)

Gas Savers
The little green (or whatever color is cheapest)cars may be bought by some, but not by me. I have no desire to ride in a sardine can powered by a washing machine motor. I do own an older Chrysler product but it is a V-6 and gets 25 miles per gallon on trips and rides very comfortably. Now why would I want anything less?
And that is what you are going to get in the Obamobile. IF I am forced out of my car, I will buy a Moped or something comparable. After all, I might enjoy riding in the open air vs. riding in a closed Sardine Can.
Obama and others want us to turn into a European travel mode. I've been there in the UK and it ain't pretty. Only the wealthy drive the Mercedes and Rolls Royces. I guess they can since the poor man is doing all the saving for them.
"Go away with them Lucille, in your merry Obamobile".

Little Green Cars
Myabe we will get lucky and Roger Penske will bay Saturn from Government Motors (GM). Then will have a car guy running a car company that has great business sense. Let's all hope and pray this comes to past.

green cars
Until the new cafe standards are put in effect, look for the japanese and ford auto sales to explode.Evidently those yahoo's don't think about the boat and travel trailer business.

New Name for GM
"Government Motors"? Not at all. The proper name will be Barry Motors or BM for short. Everybody who wants one of those little green cars hold uppa you hand. Oh! Hi there, Sol.

$.02
It seems to me that the smart thing for the American Taxpayer to do now that they’re so heavily invested in GM/Chrysler is to support the investment made on their behalf with their money. To lash out against GM, or Chrysler for that matter, is stupidity on stilts. Can’t anyone see that if you boycott GM/Chrysler and they fail, then the government loans will never be paid back and your children will foot the bill for years?

The sooner they fail the better
Any money put into GM/Chrysler is throwing good money after bad, and their cars were not appealing or popular, which is why they were not making a profit BEFORE this latest crisis.

Chrysler went into the pits in the 1970s, during the Carter regime. It's already had its resurrection 30 years ago.

No one should buy a domestic car except the foreign ones produced in Am. factories or Ford.

Let the UAW go pound sand. They are making Swiss cheese out of investments my pension managers have made in the auto industry. Teachers and cops and fire and any public worker employee unions will suffer grievous loss of investments while the UAW gets stroked.

Send them to h*ll.

Bork Sotamayor.

As goes GM so goes America
What the unions and management did to Chrysler and GM, the government worker unions and the management politicians will do to the US. Just look at California and you'll see the future of our federal government.

Green "ain't" makin' it in my book.
It is natural for some to go along with this Governmental control over the automobile because that is the easy way out. But here is a little tidbit for you to munch on. AMTRACK -subsidized and run by the Government has never made a profit. Do you honestly think anything the Government is trying to run will ever make a profit? I seriously doubt it. I disagree with Obama in that he had no Constitutional right to fire the CEO of GM, but when you hold the strings of M-O-N-E-Y and dangle the carrot in front of Americans you can do what you want.
In my own State there are those who are so addicted (like a dope addict) to Federal Funds that they think the State will go belly up if we don't take them. Gov. Sandford is right if they are going to get the money then the State should be allowed to spend it on whatever it needs. But the Feds don't look at it that way. They say if we give it you, you have to spend it for what WE think is right.
These little green cars are a joke and I won't buy anything run by this government.

WHO BUYS LITTLE "GREEN" CARS ??
The only fools I can think of are the little "green" people who will never get out of the LA-LA-LAND that they have been living in for most of their lives !! And there are NOT enough of them to make GOV'T-UAW MOTORS profitable EVER !!

Dr Chaz thank you
Your link provides an outline of a man, Obama, who is deeply in bed with the communists and radicals of the left and should provoke deep concern for all.

Didn't Obama himself make the claim in one of his books that rather than appear to be an oreo he deliberately choose friends from the far left in his college days?

Some random thought on a lazy Saturday
So now the taxpayers own car companies, banks, insurance companies and probably soon a whole slew of left leaning newspapers. I assume my mailbox will be full of proxy statements so I can vote my interests. Probably not...
So, if we own car companies banks and insurance companies, will I still be free to choose the products and services I want? For example, will the bank decline my car loan because I’m too old to own the gas guzzler of my choice? What if I belong to the wrong political party? Will my loan or insurance be declined? Can you imagine this scenario? "We're sorry sir but at your stage in life (politically correct), you are authorized to buy a Moped for you and your wife. Also, our records show that you voted for the political party that lost last time. That presents a small problem. Now, I can help you change your political affiliation if you will just sign this form but you can not have the SUV you picked out. Just between you and me, with gov’t owned healthcare, you won’t live long enough to fully amortize that SUV. So enjoy your Moped comrade.” Just kidding, that’s at least 3 years away.
Looks like it’s going to take a lot more beers to sleep at night. Hey, I wonder if we are going to bail out any beer companies.

Obama laid off...
....47,000 workers and is going to employ 1,200 in making little green cars. That's job creation you can willingly suspend disbelief in!

A little bit happy
Doesn't President Obama make some of you conservatives a little bit happy, because he does me. His policies have been so radically left, so much toward big government that although he is doing real damage, he is also really exposing the true intentions of the left.

The center left policies of Clinton, and the center right policies of Bush's have had the country as a whole sliding left for the 20 years. Obama is so incredibly bold (arrogant) that he really does not seem to care whether the country wants to be socialist or not, that is the direction he is going to take it.

I don't know if anything short of a massive Christian revival can help America but if anything could wake people up the dangers of economic socialism and libertine social policy, President Obama seems to be our guy. Pain can often be a great tutor, and sometimes it is a very necessary tutor.

GM should bolt the Volt
The thing is a failure and will be until more efficient batteries are invented and produced.
The objective should be to get the country free of influence by oil shieks. The technology exists to do exactly that.

Those who are enamored of humungous, ugly pick-em-up trucks should convert them to compressed natural gas power in existing but modified engines. It is patriotic to occasionally think of the good of the country rather than be motivated by a narrow ego driven, big tough guy image with an expectation of ruling the road with bad behavior.

Obama and the second automotive Dark Age
A second automotive Dark Ages is coming. The first happened in the 1970's. That dark ages was caused by the first smog emissions standards. These emission standards got substantially tougher each year from 1971 through 1975. And from 1971 through 1975 each new model year's cars got progressively less powerful, worse performing, and poorer running than the previous year's model. New car performance hit the nadir in 1975 and remained there until the early 1980s when technology caught up with standards and car performance finally began to improve each year. Barack's new greenhouse gas "emission" aka fuel economy standards will cause a new automotive dark ages. Expect new car performance and utility to diminish rapidly as we move through model years 2012 to 2016 and remain low until technology can catch up. Having lived through the first automotive dark ages, and foreseeing a second was coming, I purchased a new Ford Mustang GT. I will be keeping it and will not be buying one of the new Obama cars. So please you future owners of 2012 and newer cars, watch your rear view mirrors carefully and please move to the right when you see one of us in an older car coming up behind you.

Kudlow now speaks?
If America had been a great country as intented by the Founding Fathers, this present mess would not now speak volumes!

What has America done with these wise counsel may I aks of you Kudlow? "Overgrown military establishments are under any form of government
inauspicious to liberty and are to be regarded as particularly hostile to Republican liberty". By George Washington. Now America's war machinery circling the globe in reality on the road of self-destruction like all previous Empires of the past.

What has America done with these wise counsel may I aks of you Kudlow? "No pecuniary consideration is more urgent than the regular redemption and discharge of the public debt: on none can delay be more injurious or an economy of time more valuable". For many many decades the Federal Government went on a spending spree to where now the true National Debt stands around 100 trillion dollars, if what has been reported of late even by the Editor of Townhall. His SOS only said about 53 trillions, to be fair.

What has America done with these wise counself may I ask of you Kudlow? "The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, in the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale". By Thomas Jefferson. These swindingly already functioning for decades, right?

So Mr. Kudlow, how about your statement of: "great country"? While the Founding Fathers are weeping in their very graves.

Guess I won't go there (visions of "Desperate Housewives" popping into my head)...good point, but of course those delivery trucks eat up gas or diesel and spew out pollutants too.

Brother, Can You Spare A Doubloon?
God, you Libs will be living in Obamaville.

Marxism=Socialism=Communism=Totalitism=Progressivism=Death.

Hitler started out as a Socialist.

Mao was a Communist.

Pol Pot was a Communist.

Castro is a Communist.

Chavez is a Totalitarian.

What do the five have in common?

Death.

Obama has his own 5 year plan for GM.

Why I own Ford stock
The reason I bought & yet hold Ford shares is not they're an investment, but rather because holding them is an expression of my support for the compsany.

Why do I wish to support Ford? BVecause in Decemnber, 1969 I went to the PX in Viet-Nam to pay down $500. on a mid-sized Ford that was to be awaiting my picking it up at a dealer in K.C. when I rotated back to the States the first week of March, 1970.

But I was seriously WIa 22 January, 1970. Bedridden in a military hospital in Denver & informed that if I was able to overcome being bedridden I'd probably be wheelchair bound the rest of my life. Never mind in fact I was up & walking, albeit with a severe limp, in less than three months.

Anyway, based on medical opinion I informed Ford I'd not be abl;e to pick the car awaiting me in K.C. on schedule.

What'd Ford do? It sent two representatives to my hospital bedside with a refund of my $500. deposit on the car & they told me not to worry about the car, that Ford'd take care of it with no hassle. So it did regardless the offbeat paint scheme I'd chosen.

Probably GM & Chrysler would have done the same, but I KNOW Ford treated me, a seriously WIA G.I. right. And I always will appreciate that.

YOU TAKE IT ONE STEP TOO FAR
You take your complaint one step too far:
---
Even worse, UAW chief Ron Gettelfinger has made it plain that his powerful union won’t let these cars be manufactured in low-cost non-union plants overseas.
---
Well guess what ? THEY SURE AS HELL BETTER BE MADE 100% IN THE USA, WITH EVERY COMPONENT MANUFACTURED RIGHT HERE ON OUR SOIL WITH 100% DOMESTIC RAW MATERIALS.
TIME TO PLANT RUBBER TREES TO GREEN AMERICA.
---
If the democrats are going have the USA government own GM, they sure as hell BETTER MAKE 100% CERTAIN EVERY SINGLE TAX DOLLAR COOKED UP FROM NO COLLECTIONS AND SPENT, BE SPENT 100% ON USA WORKERS AND US SUPPLY, 100% DOMESTIC.
---
For you to take the opposite tact based upon "profitable cars" is not only STUPID, we the people call it TRAITOROUS !
---
You probably want to tell me to shut up - but I guess when you whine about billions going overseas for aid, that whole idea is out the window when tax dollars are supposed to build car manufacturing plants overseas for foreign nations - with democrats doing it - even as they whine about naton building.
---
Want to get US government spending down ? Want to contain the BEAST ?
Make EVERY TAX DOLLAR SPENT on ANY "shovel ready job", paper, printer, computer, EVERYTHING - BY LAW MADE IN THE USA.
---
Gee, we'd have full employment so quickly and new industrial business growing so fast, and the added cost would KILL government inefficiency and the WHINERS would have to go to work, anyway.
---
How many hundreds of billions of US government tax dollars go to overseas companies now for foreign workers in foreign nations ?
---
I understand 80% of the military hardware is made overseas. Hello TRAITORISM and hello NWO "peace dividend".
SCREW YOU PENCIL PUSHING CRAPHEADS.

Our great new American business leaders
Want to know the refrain?
---
Our great new American business leaders :
---
AMERICA CAN'T DO IT, WE CAN'T MAKE IT, WE CAN'T BUILD IT, WE CAN'T DO IT.
---
No matter your view on the "economic realities of the new world order of globalism" I think it's more than clear the US CITIZENS expect better than that from "their leaders" who are supposed to be such business giants, and - what do they do ? THEY SHOVE A FIST UP OUR REARS AND TELL US TO ACCEPT IT.
---
I HATE the democrats, and that will never change until they do - but what I WANT what I NEED from republicans is "We will use our business epxertise to make it work HERE IN AMERICA".
I guess you cannot, so expect to find more like me HATING the demo government thieves, and HATING you as well who sell out (admittedly along with democrats) to FOREIGN persons we want the hell out of our country and off our tax dollars and JOBS.
You had better figure something out - because HENRY FORD did it, and if you're saying "that's over !" expect a jihad.

Kudlow
Just think about killing two birds with one
stone here. We can cut our dependence on gas
tremendously with the little green cars. And
many people will have to go on a diet to get
into one of these little green cars, so then
we can cut health bills too.

Bankruptcy II

No one will buy GM bonds. No one will buy GM stock. No one will buy little green cars. I'm buying put options all the way to the end!!!
