Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

From the Family Research Council:

An Open Letter to Larry Kudlow, the Nation's Irreplaceable CNBC Host

Dear Larry:

The Politico reported yesterday "it's rumored that [Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT)] could face a challenge [in his 2010 Senate re-election race] from CNBC host Larry Kudlow, an opponent who would focus the coming election squarely on the economy."

Say it ain't so, Kudlow.

For those not familiar with you, Larry, I provide two links with some fair and balanced info: CNBC, Wikipedia. In short, you are a supply-side economist who served in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the Reagan Administration's Treasury Department, and various Wall Street firms with distinction. You are a happy guy; an optimist. You are a conservative, and, as I have observed over the years, a much-needed media friend of the pro-life cause - something we at FRC appreciate greatly. And, since the financial meltdown you have been hosting a M-F 7:00 p.m. hour-long market analysis program on CNBC - now called The Kudlow Report.

In my opinion, The Kudlow Report has become the most important news program in America since the financial crash hit in September 2008. Given the deep recession we are experiencing it is understandable that an economy-focused program would reach such prominence. However, I am sure your ratings do not come close to measuring your impact on American politics, but I believe that I am correct.

As a conservative moderator you have exposed the Bush (bad) and the Obama (failing) economic responses to the financial crash to systematic analysis by many of the best thinkers on Wall Street. You provide this invaluable service on a daily basis with great intellectual rigor. What is crucial here is that a supply-side (non-Keynesian) supporter of free markets has this prominent role on America's foremost business channel. As long as the current economic recession remains unabated, The Kudlow Report will remain the most important source of news on the economy.

This brings me to the alarming rumors of your potential Senate race. I write to urge you to reject any attempts to entice you to run for the Senate in Connecticut.

First, let's assume that you run and defeat Senator Dodd. Under that scenario, it is fair to say that as a junior senator from Connecticut - in the minority (the GOP cannot take back the Senate in 2010) - you would have no chance of attaining the level of influence you now enjoy on CNBC. Being well down the pecking order in a body of 100, you may be able to get a seat on the banking committee, and you would be able to accomplish some good in the Senate: perhaps an amendment here and there; some oversight questions on TV. Not much to compare with being able to teach the nation about core conservative economic principles every evening while assessing the events of the day and interviewing newsmakers.

Second, the chances are not great that you will defeat Senator Dodd. Yes, he has some vulnerabilities on housing and mortgage policies. That said, he is in his fifth term, and his father was a two-term U.S. Senator from Connecticut. The state is very liberal. Connecticut is unlikely to elect someone who would now have difficulty winning a seat in New Hampshire. In sum, you will most likely lose the race, but the costs would be greater than those associated with a failed campaign - lost time, treasure, and effort.

The greatest cost would come from your absence from CNBC. This would be a heavy price to pay because the nation needs daily access to someone guided by sound doctrine analyzing economic and financial developments. This is the job for which your lifetime of work and training has prepared you - not sitting in the Senate. It is no small responsibility to provide accurate economic news to the people of the United States in the worst recession since the 1930s. Unless you stay focused on the task at hand there is little chance that the American people will receive via cable or television the high-quality analysis of Obama Administration policies that they deserve for 2010 and 2012.

Best wishes,

Chris Gacek

IN AGREEMENT
I have to agree with the FRC 100%. At this particular time in our history, you are of much greater value in your present position, IMHO. Once things begin to turn around, then perhaps run for office and help see to it that this never happens again. All the best and thanks for all your efforts.

Shameless advertising?
"As long as the current economic recession remains unabated, The Kudlow Report will remain the most important source of news on the economy."

Then God help us all. This demonstrates clearly that the Family Research Council should stick to family values topics about which its officers have a clue.

It would be great to get rid of Chris Dodd, but do we really want a Fed admiring-Wall Street insider-wishy-washy Party shill to replace him? He's more Keynesian hack than free market economist.

Exhibit A on Kudlow's judgment on the economy: this is from 5/8/08 and offers his brilliant assessment that we were in a "non-recession recession."

Hey
Isn't this the same Larry Kudlow who told us for months that the economy was doing just fine and that we should keep buying stocks and investing in banks?

Sorry, I'll take a pass on the next piece of advice.

Reaganite . . I Enjoyed the Letter
Just to put things in perspective - I noted that you don't like Rudy - an extraordinary public servant. Those like you are responsible for giving us milquetoast republicans like McCain which results in leaders like Obama. You've got a lot of points but not one good one.

What Nerve
Kudlow has got a lot of nerve to show his face around here. Notice how he mentions how his program has become important AFTER the financial crash hit. The last thing he wants is to call attention to his columns and his show BEFORE the financial crash hit when the phrase "The Bush Boom" was commonly uttered.

The biggest mistake we can make now is continuing to listen to guys like this.

carlos
Don't blame me for McCain. I didn't vote for him in either the primary or the general election. Before you jump to conclusions, I didn't vote for Obama, either.

I'll give you the point that Rudy cleaned up New York City (I was amazed how filthy it was when I first visited there in 1990), but found him less than conservative on the issues during the primary season last year. Sorry, I'm not a neoconservative and refuse to vote like one.

Kudlow is a Malignant Narcissist
There is no depth that Kudlow would not sink to in order to promote himself

He is the original I was against “bailouts” before I was for “economic recovery plans.”

Kudlow abandoned any pretense of being a free-marketer after he received a phone call from Paulson’s Treasury Department urging him to get on board with Paulson’s unconstitutional 700 billion dollar Banking-Buddy Slush Fund. (He no doubt regrets having made this admission on the John Bachelor Radio Show.)

Kudlow is an unscrupulous fraud.

Great idea to run against Dodd
I see this as a no-lose situation for Kudlow. He is well respected on TV with a reasonable audience and would attract voters to his position. Dodd has been another example of nepotism in the Senate, Kennedy, Clinton, Biden, Reid, Leahy, and many others who have obtained their jobs through their relatives , or are about to.
We need to end this nepotism and having Kudlow force Dodd out would be a good start. If Kudlow would run on a 2 term limit platform it would be even better.
A strong opponent would force Dodd to be exposed as the fraud he is, and has been. We need Kudlow we do not need, or want, Dodd!

Larry Dont leave TV PLEASE !
This blog is spot on. If Larry were on Fox he'd be dismissed as a neocon idiot. Being on NBC gives him great exposure & validity to people that need to be educated as to how badly Obama is screwing up our, our childrens & our gradkids futures.....

I agree with Chris Gacek
You could be a little more on board with Hayek and Friedman imo, but overall not a bad job. Be a waste of time and talent to join that cesspool in Washington. I also agree that Connecticut wouldn't have you. There and next door in Taxachusetts, is the bastion of socialism in this country eclipsed only by Commiefornia. Give the commies four years to see some results and maybe you might stand a chance. We need all the help we can get simply trying to minimize the damage.

But you're not Cramer.
Clear and concise, just like Cramer. But you are not Cramer. You are right. The reason we are in this mess is because a person such as Mr. Kudlow could not be elected to office from many if not most of the States in our union. Empty suits, foisted on us by big money and allies of our cold war enemies, are all we are going to get for most of our Senators and Congressmen/en.

Lesser of two evils
While we hate the idea of having to select between the lesser of two evils, I think out current administration demonstrates unquestionably how things go when when we choose the greater of two evils.

Conservatives are a long way from home, and we won't get there overnight. Unless youo have a better candidate, Kudlow would do better in the Senate than Dodd. And then, after eliminating the greater of the two evils, we can find a new "lesser" and elect them, moving gradually back toward a constitutional republic.

Incrementalism is how the Marxists got us here, and reverse incrementalism is most likely what it will take to get us back.

Better a law maker
than opinion maker. Go for it!

Incrementalism....
...is what got us to Marxism because they had to HIDE the truth.

REVOLUTION is what will get us back because the vision Reagan had is so easy to articulate precisely because it is the TRUTH!

Regarding Kudlow, I'd vote for my Cat if it was running against that arrogant idiot Dodd.

kbTexan
It was Kudlow who abandoned free market capitalism when a fierce defense was most needed. Overnight, Kudlow betrayed the principles that he had forever claimed to champion. By his own admission, he did a 180 just because the Treasury Department gave him a call.

This was the door-opening moment that Socialism had long sought and it came just at the right time for our new Marxist-in-Chief to take the helm. If Bush can have his bailouts, you can’t stop the Messiah from having his too. If Bush can give money to bankers the Savior can give it to La Raza. I will forever damn frauds like Kudlow to hell for their treason. Socialism started with them.

There are many good Conservatives out there who get shunned by the GOP for being too Conservative. I remember well what happened in Pennsylvania when there was a chance to replace that worthless Specter with a far more conservative man. The GOP stabbed Toomey in the back.

I reject your lesser of two evils choice as well as incrementalism. I’ve had enough of both. To hell with the GOP.

The world in 90 days
I suggest that posters here look at Jon Stewart's brilliant, blistering statement with photos and op eds last night regarding Kudlow, Jom whats'his'name and CNBC.

Not hard to find, it's all over the 'net.

Anybody but ....
There are those who would criticize, but ridding the senate of Chris Dodd would be an improvement by almost all standards or criteria.

Just learned something new
Didn't realize he was a good prolife conservative. Good to hear it. and would love to see him in congress...lets see him debate one of the socialists

Van

Fine, give Kudlow the seat
Reward this soulless self promoter, regardless of his crimes, just because he is more palatable than Dodd.

Don’t actually seek out a candidate who didn’t betray Conservatism when he or she was most needed.

This idea, that people should not be held accountable for their actions, seems to be gaining ground within the Republican Party. You Whigs become more like the Democrats every day.

No wonder I have such contempt for so-called “Conservatives” in America.

Run Larry Run
This is THE MOST exciting race for the next elections heard yet. I doubt it will be topped. I just hope if Larry is successful, some of his colleagues listen to his wise advise. Somehow I doubt it.

Economic Fool Dodd Must Be Punished !

Chris Dodd is a Financial Meltdown Culprit.

He and Bawney Fwank Must Be Punished .

Dodd's Senate Banking Committee and Fwank's House Financial Services Committee are outrageous World Class Screw-Up Economic Imbecile Gatherings .

Stop them before they destroy The Economy again.

Ignore Wikipedia
Please do NOT provide links in your article to wikipedia. This is a ridiculous site for the simple-minded.

Run Larry Run! America Needs You.
Mr. Kudlow, we would all miss your economic and political wisdom on CNBC, but here are some possibilities to consider. You announce your run. Your name recognition allows you to edge out any other Republican in a primary (assuming they don't just clear the field for you on their own.) Yes you no longer will host the show, but you'll get coverage on Fox News Channel, where you'll get requests for interviews. You can go on the radio with Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, maybe even Rush Limbaugh. The attention focused on you will allow you to make the supply side debate you engage in so well, and to point out the dishonesty of Chris Dodd. I believe that even in a blue state like Conneticut, that an honest articulate conservative can win. Don't buy into the naysayers that tell you that you'd be a backbencher in the Senate. You'd be a go to guy, because you're already known in the field.

If you stay at CNBC, you'll be able to talk about economics. If you win the Senate you'll do the same thing, and be in a position to debate those ideas against liberals in Congress and the White House; and the voters really need to hear that debate. I know you must consider your family but we could sure use your leadership in Washington.

If you don't win the Senate seat, I doubt you'll be out of work for long. If CNBC doesn't bring you back, I'm sure Fox News will.

Beat Dodd
There are few more worthy ventures.
Larry Kudlow would be a welcome voice coming from Washington D.C. Help reenergize the Republican Party!

I Have Nothing Else of Value To Add
Kudlow is a fraud, but currently speaking as he should. His very early talk was that this is not a recession while going into a recession. He gave a typical moderate praise to BHO as being a very intelligent, articulate person, and uh, um, uh, um --- no, he is a swivel-headed prompter reader. You failed, Mr. EGO.

To run or not
Well this is a good assessment. But to let Dodd stay is sick. Wasn't it Dodd and Barney "Flippin" Frank control banking and finance when they have extreme conflicts of interest, are guilty of misleading, no lieing to the whole country about the real problem of Fannie/Freddie?
The real estate blunders with Fannie/Freddie probably has affected 2/3 of the housing market, buying, selling, appraising, inspecting, cleaning, advertising, building, construction, repairing, banking loan officers, mortgage brokers, secretaries, assistants, computer people, buying office supplies, office managers, - Do I need to go ON? And Frank couldn't help stop the foreclosures or control them before 2 months before the election? The Democrats have literally raped and robed the American public of over half of their retirements to win an election. I repeat - The Democrats - in their grandstanding and lieing, stole out futures. And why is it they are allowed to RULE?

Worst recession since the 30s?
Uh - no, that would be Carter's recession and his absurd hunkering down in the rose garden with a sweater - now from peanut farmer to a community organizer, eventually, in the next 6-12 months this will prove to be the worst recession, and third longest since the 1850s - but it will be driven by inflation and unemployment and depressed wages, not interest rates.

Kudlow the hidden Jew
Larry, why are you ashamed of your Jewish heritage? Why did you have to turn to Catholicism? Is it because you are such a withering little coward, who cannot accept your own true faith and upbringing? What a fraud. No ownder why you became an alcoholic.

Petition to Force Obama ...
to produce his real birth certificate ...

If he has one ....

Wrong
February 5, 2008 - Statement:

"I'm going to bet that the economy will be rebounding sometime this summer, if not sooner. We are in a slow patch. That's all. It's nothing to get up in arms about."

Larry Kudlows
time has passed. He has been playing a leaning left PC role at CNBC for so long he doesn't know were or who he is anymore. The other day he made some comment about Repubs being xenophobes for wanting to cutdown on H1B visa's due to their impact on citizens job base.

After hanging out with PC libtards at CNBC he would be scalped by MSM if he ran for office. He would be attacked for his Reagan time, CNBC hours of tape, etc. we all know the drill.

Maybe if were all lucky CNBC will get sold off (along with LSDNBC) by GE, as it is now heading towards worthlessness.

No Representaiton in NorCal

Optimistic Larry
Calm down, Larry Kudlow is not going to run for Senator in Conn. He has too many negatives and he knows it. Besides he is doing very well right where he is on CNBC and ABC radio.

I respect the man for his financial knowledge and turning his life around. I think he's a good role model for most Americans.

0135468578
What a pompous piece of self-serving letter being passed around to boast one's sense of stupendous selfdom -- Kudlow's that is. Kudlow is a supply-side zealot who couldn't predict the market crash or any other economical augury in that matter, let alone be considered as someone with a stable state of mind. This guy was pounding on his shinny desk up to mid/late Summer [2008], vehemently contending to our fabulous "production" numbers, swearing on his mother's grave that recession was just simply a product of fear mongering and a political instrument during the election year.

Who knows how many times he literally shut down guests who disagreed with his failed Muppet philosophical ideology of brouhaha [read: base on magic and not facts] while nit picking "certain" economical and market data (like any other ultra-fiend talking head of some economical school) to indulge his psychologically self-satisfying ode. Anyone with an ensemble of knowledge of market knows that his rant is, if not always but for the most part, farcical and a macabre joke. But of course, Kudlow and his Wall-Street-gossip-mongers on CNBC suit the station just fine. I suppose he hasn't managed to do away with his drug-riddled days of infamy.

Anybody
Just get rid of Dodd. We can certainly do without a few morons in politics...he should take Pilosi, franks, reid and schumer...anyone else?
