Voters think Obama's the Ronald Reagan tax-cutter of the 2008 election

Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Wouldn’t it be the height of irony if Barack Obama wins this election as the Ronald Reagan tax-cutter? His tax plans are severely flawed and his campaign narrative to support them is all wrong. And yet a recent Rasmussen poll shows that 31 percent of voters believe Obama is the real tax cutter, while only 11 percent choose McCain.

Believe it or not, Obama seems to have swiped the tax-cut issue from the Republican party. How can this be?

Well, for almost two years Obama has talked about cutting taxes for 95 percent of the people. McCain has no such record. And even though McCain has launched a strong Joe the Plumber investor-class tax-cutting surge in the last days of the campaign, it may not be enough to significantly impact Tuesday’s voting results.

This is bad news since Obama has some pretty strange views on taxes. Just look at his recent explanation for the decline in third-quarter GDP. He calls it “a direct result of the Bush administration’s trickle-down, Wall Street first, Main Street last policies that John McCain has embraced for the last eight years and plans to continue for the next four.”

Is Obama really blaming the Bush tax cuts for this recession?

After the bursting of the tech bubble and the 9/11 attacks, George Bush lowered tax rates across-the-board for individuals and investors. For five years the stock market rallied without interruption -- the longest bull market without a correction in post-WWII history -- while the economy expanded for six years, a bit longer than the average post-war recovery cycle.

And Obama wants folks to believe that tax cuts caused this downturn? Not the credit shock? Not the Obama-supported government mandate to sell unaffordable homes to low-income people and the pressure on Fannie and Freddie to securitize these loans? Not the oil shock?

No self-respecting Keynesian would buy into this. Yet Obama was at it again in Monday’s Wall Street Journal, saying, “It’s not change to come up with a tax plan that doesn’t give a penny of relief to more than 100 million middle-class Americans.”

Regrettably, not even John McCain has contradicted this. But the facts speak otherwise.

For example, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation says the Bush tax cuts -- which McCain would maintain -- provided substantially more relief than middle-class Clinton-era tax rates: A single earner making $30,000 will pay $2,756 under 2008 Bush tax law compared with $3,157.50 under Clinton tax law (in 1999). That’s a larger Bush tax cut by 8.7 percent. A married couple earning $50,000 will pay $4,012 under Bush compared with $5,085 under Clinton. That’s a bigger Bush tax cut by 21 percent.

So the facts of a middle-class tax cut are far different from what Obama claims. Obama also says his tax rates will be below those of Ronald Reagan. Wrong. Obama will raise the top rate to 39.6 percent, whereas Reagan left taxpayers with only two brackets of 15 and 28 percent.

Incidentally, the income cap for Social Security and Medicare taxes was about $42,000 when Reagan left office, compared with $104,000 today and the threat that Obama will raise that cap significantly.

It’s also worth noting that the Reagan tax-reform bill of 1986 mistakenly allowed the capital-gains tax rate to move up to 28 percent from 20 percent. Many believe this was a significant factor in the stock market crash of 1987.

Similarly, Obama intends to raise the cap-gains tax rate from 15 to at least 20 percent. It’s a risky move. Of course, Obama says only rich people will pay the higher cap-gains rate. But the reality is that a cap-gains tax hike will raise the after-tax cost of all capital, which will depress the future value of all equity assets.

McCain has recently proposed a reduction in the capital-gains tax rate from 15 to 7.5 percent. With 100 million-plus investors out there, and nearly two of every three votes in national elections being made by shareholders, this is right on target. Last Friday, McCain told me in an interview that a “low capital-gains tax is probably the greatest incentive for investment that we have in America today.”

In the frenetic final hours of the campaign McCain is also talking up his corporate tax cut, which would be a tremendous boost to plunging stock prices since corporate profits are the mother’s milk of stocks. Indeed, McCain’s overall tax-cut plan is far more powerful than Obama’s when it comes to creating jobs and stimulating economic growth. But his marketing effort appears to be too little, too late.

These things do, however, have a way of balancing out: If Obama and the Democrats go on a tax-hiking spree to penalize successful earners and investors, they will pay for it dearly in 2010 and beyond.

"Wouldn’t it be the height of irony if Barack Obama wins this election as the Ronald Reagan tax-cutter?" ironic? yes, funny? no
Under the Constitution, our President is the "Commander-in-Chief" , not the "con artist-in-chief" Sad day for America.

No, DOUBLE H MAN...
No they don't. They think he is Barrack Obama.

tax-cutter
"Don't tax you, don't tax me, tax the guy behind the tree"

Voters just don't believe they are the rich guy behind the tree. Talk about a rude awakening comes April 2010: there will be a lot more rich guys behind the trees.

tax cuts as populism ...
The Dems stole this issue. McCain should have anticipated it, and just had a bigger middle class tax cut and left the upper tax brackets unchanged to block the Dems' class warfare attacks.

Also, rhetoric is double-edged. Remember when Reps were screaming that Clinton's tax hikes would destroy the economy? Didn't happen. Makes the Reps look stoopid and/or disingenuous.

Also, wth is wrong with both Obama and McCain? Why do they want people pulling money out of their IRAs when banks are struggling???

It's a pity that McCain couldn't hammer Obama about the coal comments sooner ... except that the goober also supports "cap and trade" and so wasn't really in a position to do so. Sheesh.

Oh well, hope tomorrow is entertaining.

Obamism…

Obama surely can “talk the talk”, but fails to “walk the walk”. Obama reminds me of others throughout history, with their ability to so quietly and enchantingly say one thing, mean and do another; and people will shake their heads in approval of the very things they oppose. What is amazing is they believe they have agreed with him. What is very scary is that history has also proven repeatedly; that those willing to agree without questioning are the first to die by the millions.

It seems that every national election we have had in the last several decades has been described as the most important election in the history of America. And of course, they've all been important, but coming right down to it, I sincerely believe that the '08 election could well be what decides whether America maintains its place in the world as the most powerful, progressive and benevolent nation history has ever known. Or whether we will be relegated to a back seat in a world community capable of producing economic giants in a few short years.

This political season is very disturbing; Barack Hussein Obama is a closet Socialist/Marxist and looks forward to his coming out party on Nov. 4. If this country decides to elect Obama that will be the being of the end of America as we know it. You can also be sure that he will be tested early and often. The US and the World will see a great depression worse than what they experienced during the 1930’s. Your vote does count and you should be voting for the candidate that best reflect your views of what makes this country great and so unique, remembering that this uniqueness is truly a reflection of its people and what they stand for.

It is no political secret that “Taking from Peter and giving to Paul; you will always get Paul’s vote”. We owe it not just too ourselves; but our kids and their kids, past and future generations of Americans. I urge you to exercise your right to V-O-T-E…else, you have no right to complain!

Delusional Obama
Barack Obama is no Ronald Reagan!

Obama and Reagan
Neil Cavuto interviewed Obama surrogate (and fellow U.S. Senator) Bob Menendez today to find out what Obama means by his Reagan reference.

He didn't have much luck, but it was fun to watch. Talk about clueless.

How can you write this column, Kudlow,
and not mention the fact that McCain voted AGAINST BOTH Bush's tax cuts?

Kudlow asks "Obama seems to have swiped the tax-cut issue from the Republican party. How can this be?"

duuuuuuh because our candidate didn't believe in tax cuts until this year?

And don't give this garbage about "it was to balance the budget" or "the bill had pork". Here's McCain in his own words on why he voted against Bush's cuts:

"I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us, at the expense of middle class Americans who most need tax relief."

"I voted against the tax cuts because of the disproportional amount that went to the wealthiest Americans. I would clearly support not extending those tax cuts in order to help address the, the deficit."

Revenues following the cuts skyrocketed, so if he wanted to address the deficit he should have voted for them.

McCain talks a good game now, but if he's elected, all the Democrats have to do to get their tax hike is... NOTHING! Just let Bush's cuts expire & let McCain have what he originally wanted.

So, tomorrow, you can vote for the wealth-spreader, the other wealth-spreader, or a real tax-cutting 3rd party candidate.

I'm against almost everything Obama is for, but I'm with him on giving McCain the finger.

Obama wont raise your taxes..........
....... THIS YEAR!

But next year when those bush tax cuts expire, Bend Over Here It Comes Again.

It doesn't have to happen!

THE END OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND THE IMPOSITION OF ONE PARTY RULE BY THE DEMOCRATS - A PERMANMENT DEMOCRATIC ELECTORCIAL COLLEGE BULLET PROOF 270 MAJORITY THAT WILL RULE FOR THE NEXT HUNDRED YEARS AND BEYOND.

WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF THE GREATEST SOCIALIST REVOLUTION SINCE COMRADE LENIN IN 1917

THE RISE TO POLITICAL POWER OF COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS (OBAMA’S ACORN WARRIORS) AND THE CREATION OF AN EGALITERIAN SOCIETY OF EQUAL PEOPLES (ALL EQUALLY POOR)

Many Americans are getting ready to throw McCain - a good, honest, genuine American hero overboard back into the rice paddy and do to him politically what his Vietnamese captors did to McCain physically and impose on the United States permanent Democratic Party rule.

words of wisdom for voters
"During this political season let's be reminded of these wise words. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves."

Abraham Lincoln

"Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not."

Thomas Jefferson

"Government is like fire, a handy servant but a dangerous monster"

George Washington

"When the people fear the government, there is tyranny,
When the government fears the people, there is Liberty!"

Thomas Jefferson

"It is the first responsibility of every citizen to question authority"

Benjamin Franklin

"The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is,
As a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government"

Thomas Jefferson

"Freedom is a fragile thing, and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance, it must be defended constantly by each generation for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it, have never known it again."

Ronald Regan

KEEP THESE WORDS IN MIND WHEN YOU VOTE TODAY AND VOTE TO SAVE THIS REPUBLIC!

The end of America as we know it
I have never been a Bush basher. I think he was a good honest man who believed in what he was doing. His mistake was pandering to the Dems to get them to keep funding the war. Obama on the other hand has an agenda that is terrifying. Michelle Obama is obviously a very angry black woman who has spent her adult life pushing for him to be president. For a woman who had the opportunity to attend both Princeton and Harvard and then claim she was never proud of her country is a disgrace. How many opportunities does she think she deserves. I do believe that these two will do more to hurt race relations than anyone we can remember. The promises that Obama has made, taking from the rich and giving to the "middle class" will not work. Try being middle class in the northeast on $120,000. Unfortunately, these people who are expecting that their life will change if they get $500. are going to be very disillusioned and again it will the white man keeping them down. I heard a young black woman claim that now with Obama she will not have to worry about gas for her car or paying her mortgage. This is not going to happen on $500 extra a year. The disappointment that they will feel when they realize that Obama will not elevate them to rich status will cause more racism than we have seen in 40 years.

Sorry but
proposing more tax cuts with a $400B plus deficit is like pouring gas on a fire.
Was it only 14 years ago that our Party supported a balanced budget amendment?

Gregdn, tax rates do not correlate
with collections - many times, like with Bush's 2003 cuts, revenues to the IRS rise after a rate cut. The same occurred with JFK's tax cuts and Reagan's.

This is especially true with tax rate cuts for cap-gains and higher marginal incomes. People who earn lower rates generally must work to live, and will continue working even if rates go up.

Higher wage earners and investors often have the option to stop their activity, or shift to a less-taxed activity, so lowering top marginal and cap-gain rates can result in much more of those activities, which stimulates the economy and total tax revenue.

Bush and the GOP broke the budget by spending, not by cutting taxes.

Huh?!?! Where have you guys been?
Over 85% of the American public cannot name their Representative. 90% don't know who Harry Reid is. Last week I heard an interview with a "man on the street," an Obama supporter who was asked why he would vote for BO. His answer, "I want to see him do his thizzle (sp?) thang." I have no idea what that means, but I don't think it has to do with marginal tax rates. And, this guy's vote, based on his desire for thizzle, counts as Kudlow's.

We are so screwed.

It's what he doesn't say
For a married family, filing jointly and earning $75,000 a year, this increase will be $3,074. For those making just $50,000, this increase will be $1,512. Despite Senator Obama's claim, even struggling American families making just $25,000 a year will see a tax increase -- they'll pay $715 more...

=========

Just a reminder - about the Obama lie on tax. He will raise your tax by allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire!

Reminder
No Country has ever taxed their way to prosperity.

Demoncrat new taxes
EXISTING DEMOCRAT TAX BILLS AWAITING ACTION
INFO FROM OUR LOCAL LIBERAL NEWSPAPER
45 TRILLION DOLLARS = Carbon credit Tax
1 TRILLION DOLLARS = Charlie Rangel’s Tax
845 BILLION DOLLARS = Obama’s To-The-UN-To-Give-To-Our-Enemies-Tax
76 BILLION DOLLARS = Obama’s gasoline tax
10 CENTS PER GALLON = Gasoline pump tax increase
47 TRILLION DOLLARS = TOTAL NEW TAXES
THIS DOESN’T INCLUDE TAX CUTS THEY WILL ELIMINATE!
THIS DOESN’T INCLUDE 17 TRLLION DOLLARS WE ALREADY PAY.
OBAMA WANTS ONE TRILLION DOLLARS IN NEW SPENDING.
WHO GETS THE OTHER 46 TRILLION DOLLARS OF NEW TAXES?
HOW WILL QUADRUPILING OUR TAX BURDEN HELP US?
WE THE PEOPLE PAY ALL TAXES!!!

Economic reform
We the people pay all taxes, and we are the only ultimate source of all tax revenue. Regardless where government initially collects the money, all tax money ultimately comes from us, the people, even though business has to pay thousands or millions of dollars at one time, and get it back from us one dollar at a time.
Since we the people are the one and only source of all tax revenue:
There should be only one tax to collect all tax revenue.
It should be a single, simple, fair, direct, graduated, individual, full-income tax levied on living persons for each level of government: One Tax and Done.
The best thing that government can do to help the country, the people, and even government, is to repeal all of the many hundreds, or thousands of existing taxes, fees, and charges. These taxes are the federal deficit. These taxes are the high price of everything. These tax eliminations are spending cuts. Every tax that is eliminated is a tax that we the people no longer have to pay. These taxes are the difference between the price we pay for health care and everything else, and the price we would pay if these taxes were repealed. Eliminating these taxes will remove them from the price paid for everything by everyone, including government.
One Tax and Done will provide many benefits to all, even government:
One Tax and Done will reduce the price paid for everything by one-third, While Democrats have 47 Trillion Dollars in new taxes written in bills awaiting action to quadruple the tax burden of all Americans, except for tax-exempt rich liberals.

Either way, Vote & God Bless the USA
One more shot: McCain - $300 tax cut. Obama - $1000 tax cut. A vote for Obama is a vote for prosperity based on a solid middle class that can support businesses big and small. A vote for Obama is a vote for unity. A vote for Obama is a vote for a new era.

Don't Miss Neil Cavuto's Video
of his interview with I'm-An-Idiot New Jersey Senator yesterday on Fox. You can watch the video at foxnews.com. Fabulous!!!
It is exactly what Mr. Kudlow (I love Larry!)is talking about. It was a rock-em, sock-em interview; it showplaced perfectly the ignorant drum-beating, water-carrying mantra-messengers that the Obama campaign enlists who cannot answer questions that are off-message.
It is great viewing!! Perfect, unadulturated example of the misinformation that the Obama campaign has been repeating for months regarding their tax plan. Such a bunch of malarkey!!
Watch that video - Larry's so right!

The Supreme Court MUST Act On Barack
Subject: The Supreme Court MUST Act On Barack
Even if Obama wins, Americans must demand that the Supreme Court take up the birth certificate issue.

OBAMA IS A KENYAN. The proof is overwhelming. If he is elected, we have until January 20th before he takes the oath of office. So, if we find out before that time that he is indeed unqualified to assume office, then we will be saved from the start of an illegal presidency.

If he assumes office, and the same scenario with regard to citizenship takes place after the fact, then he has to be removed from office. Yes, VP Joe Biden would become President, and I certainly wouldn't be happy about it. But, at least Biden is an American by birth. UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION!!!!!!!!

The last American Election
The Tax Cut Obama proposes is Marxism. Weak-Minded Youth, Bums and Crack-Heads, will be enticed to vote for "Barky", with the Tax Refund/Break of $500-$1000. By the time The REPO Team [Nancy, Harry, an' "Barky"] are in POWER, 4 years, the country will be split into The "U.S.S. Of New Afrika",and The "U.S.S. of Amerika". If you don't believe this, READ some of the Black publications/magazines. "Pharoh Louis Pharikhan", in his newspaper, the "Final Call", openly advocates the division of the U.S., into two Nations,[1] Black,[1] White, and demands Foreign Aid, from the Whites, for 15 to 25 years, to get the Black Nation, 'New Afrika', "On It's Feet"!! Rev. Wright, was a Moslem, till he switched to Black Liberation Theology/Christianity for Political Expediency. In other words, He's catering to the Blacks, who, [for whatever reason], won't embrace Islam. Moslems are permitted to lie, cheat, steal, TAX, kill or en-slave any and all Non-Moslems. Hence, Barky's "Conversion". This Kenyan Kommie will have perpetrated the greatest political Hoax, in the History Of The World. This one beats the Trojan Horse. Today, I voted in 'The Last American Election'.

The Supreme Court MUST Act On McCain
McCain is Panamanian! How blind must you all be?

Brought to you by: Con-Logic. And Jeffrey, who thinks that Hawaii isn't part of the US (hint to Jeffrey... watch Hawaii-50 some time and get back to me on the title.)

Reagan spreads the wealth
EIC. What a dastardly guy. Didn't he raise taxes? What a buffoon, eh Cons?

Lawyer Talkin!!!
Someone tell me why we need to vote two lawyers into office?????

Bloomberg:
Biden -- a former trial lawyer himself and former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee -- voted against attempts by the Republicans who controlled Congress from 1995 to 2007 to rein in lawsuits.

Just one more Tax the liberal D'oh will allow to perpetuate itself.

Vote for BO?
A vote for Obama is a vote for division.

When Obama lets the Bush tax cuts expire --
$75,000 increase of $3,074.
$50,000 increase of $1,512.
$25,000 increase of $ 715.

Vote for McCain the only candidate running who has reached across the isle and defends the US Constitution.

Obama is the tax cutter
It is obvious that George Bush's tax cuts have drained the treasury. We have never seen this kind of national debt or budget deficit. The difference between democrats and republicans is how we view economic sucess. Democrats look at employment rates and real wages. Republicans look at the dow average. Taxes must be raised because we just owe far too much money. Period. Ronald Reagan didn't cut taxes until 1986, and sure enough by the end of Bush 41's first term, we were in a recession. Why don't deficits matter to republicans? We should have pulled out of Iraq long ago, regardless of what the situation was because we simply couldn't afford the war, and that's not were Bin Laden or other top Al Queda leaders were anyway. Tonight the GOP will see a complete repudiation of your economic policies. You will be cast into the wildernes like America did from 1932-1952, until you brought a centrist pragmatic president to the White House. (Who did not lower taxes, they were 91% for the wealthy during wartime). Progressive taxation is Teddy Roosevelts baby, and Woodrow Wilson raised it. It was a good idea then, and is standard practice in every good economy around the world. The only good idea I ever hear from the GOP is to lowere the corporate tax rate. Which Obama plans to do for corporations that commit to really creating jobs in America. We also must do something about the unfair tarrifs that we face in China compared to what we charge them to import their goods. America, it is time for a change.

Good grief!
"McCain has no such record." You mean of lying about cutting taxes for 40 percent of the population that doesn't even pay them. Obama is selling us snake oil, So he's a better, slimier salesman than McCain. Good for him. May the snake bite him in his sorry, illuminati butt.

Obama's tax lie
if you can sell people on the idea that by taking money from 5% of the population (who now pay 70% of all taxes) and give it to 40% of the population who PAY NO TAXES, and then call it a TAX CUT for the middle class, then you can convince people that monkeys fly out of your butt. This guy Obama has actually changed the definition of a tax cut simply by changing the definition. i'm starting believe this guy is really the Messiah. Who the hell else could pull this off?

Lawrence,
The productive american public will only take liberal moonbattiness so long.. (if the moonie actually wins) It has already been proven by gay marriage amendments....that had to be overturned by the activist moonie courts. Judicial activism over will of the people..strike one against the moonies.

Higher taxes and class warfare are fully distasteful to the US.....and will only be tolerated for a few years...if at all.

Yes, its an election year, people are mad
(hand it to the moonies for establishing the premise of the republicans as the party to blame) but, Reid, Pelosi, and Chief Moonie are liberals like the Democratic party has never seen. Make no mistake.

They will do nothing to balance the budget and for years they will blame it on the republicans.....as long as they can. Thats the Saul Alinsky community organizer mantra.

But make no mistake.......nothing will ever beat hard work and core conservative values as the party of the majority.

So maybe its anger that drives this years vote.
If the wrong guy is voted in......it will be common sense that drives the vote 2 years from now........

Remember what Pelosi and Reid rode into town on 2 years ago.....transparency, fairness, bipartisanship, common ground, the good of the people......blah, blah.....none of it ever materialized.....we have a Democratic majority in the house and senate with an approval rating that equals my shoe size. (9)

Money to spend
Anybody ever stop to realize that incentive checks mailed out under a republican majority were "dangerous" and deepened the deficit..... But under democratic majority they are presented and accepted as "necessary" to drive the economy........give it a boost....??

If the moonies in DC had any brains, the incentive checks would become permanent tax reductions.......not something doled out by the goverment so that people think the governement is acting in their best interest........look at incentive checks as nothing more than feeding the sheep......."keep your head down, don't pay attention"...just keep eating what we feed you.

Now they are thinking of another one?????

Please....lets rid washington of the F*cking moonie lawyers whose egos make them think they know how to run the country.....obviously they don't

Hey Inthemajority
Everybody knows Hawaii is one of the 57 states!!
Hahahahahahaahh!

Is Obama's break after he repeals Bush's
I've been to Obama's site and used the tax calculator. Under his plan he states that he will give me a break of $1,800 while McCain's is much less.

That being said, I know Obama has stated that he will repeal Bush's tax cuts. So, is his calculator estimating my breaks before or after he repeals the averaged $1,200 Bush already gave the middle class?

Is his calculator estimating McCain's breaks considering Bush's tax cuts or not?

Jerry - are you kidding me?
Jerry you are a fool and an ideologue if you believe that nonsense. Spending is what drained the treasury, not tax cuts. Who in their right minds honestly believes that the government raising taxes is going to spend it paying down what we owe? The degenerates in Congress will find another program to start up and spend our money on, make grand promises to the American people, and then proceed to waste it (after paying themselves and their cronies, of course). Dems & Repubs don’t look at economic success differently necessarily; but the means to get there as promoted by Dems generally is well-meaning but has disastrous consequences - sub-prime mortgages anyone? If you care about employment, then why punish employers? It doesn’t make sense. Deficits do matter, but only if they become permanent. An election of Obama is a repudiation of the GOP, that’s true – that doesn’t make voters correct on economic issues. The one thing I would look forward to in an Obama presidency is to watch his economic illiteracy in action, to demonstrate its disastrous consequences in action, to repudiate the folly of it until the next generation of Marxist ideologues inevitably fools the populace with bright dreams of candy-coated “change”.

Jerry is misinformed.
Jerry: "It is obvious that George Bush's tax cuts have drained the treasury."

Wrong. Revenues to the treasury surged after the 2003 cuts became effective (the 2001 cuts were staged to take effect very slowly - in 2003 they were accelerated).

Massive spending is what drained the treasury - and Bush is largely to blame for that.

Jerry: "Ronald Reagan didn't cut taxes until 1986"

Wrong - Reagan cut the top marginal tax rate from 70% to 50% during July his first year in office, and it took effect for 1982. Then he cut taxes again - dropping the marginal rate to 38.5% for 1987 and 28% for 1988.

He also dropped unemployment from 7.6 to 5.3, and inflation from 13.5% down to 4.08%. Those added together were called the "misery index" in the miserable Carter years.

Those corrections to Carter's policies resulted in good economic times for 25 years - there were two recessions after 1982, but both were shallow and short relative to previous ones.

Get your facts straight before you post here...

Jerry: "Why don't deficits matter to republicans?"

Now - I agree with you here - the GOP needs to get a handle on spending if they want to stay in power.

Jerry: "You will be cast into the wildernes like America did from 1932-1952, until you brought a centrist pragmatic president to the White House."

Reagan was the one who started the Republican dominance over the last 30 years - and he was no centrist. The GOP wins big when they run good conservatives.

It Always Comes Down to Communication
The single most serious mistake of conservatives post-Reagan has been clear and forceful communication--both defensive and offensive. And George Bush has been especially derelict in his communications responsibility. Every time the MSM has taken a shot at him he has jumped for cover; he is the consummate communications coward. He surrendered the bully pulpit early on.

As we rebuild the conservative movement, regardless of the pres election outcome, we need to make sure that current and emerging leaders either possess or are trained in effective oral communication. Remember, the vast majority of Dems are attorneys/litigators and forceful lying is their stock-in-trade and we have to deal with that directly.

2010 Democrat Disaster
If Obama wins and does even half of what he has threatened to do, the economy will be in shambles. The Democrats will be decimated in the 2010 mid-term elections.

Small Biz To Suffer
If Obama and the democrats succeed in "change" to the current tax structure we will see a dramatic negative effect throughout all sectors of the economy. As a small business owner I am more then concerned regarding this man's want and need to fundamentally change our nation, whether through tax policy or in any area that creates a more intrusion into our everyday lives. The implication of this may cause a backlash, but it may be more profound then one could image. Citizens need to be prepared for just about anything from here on out.

Are they in for a shock!
To those of you who actually expect Obama to cut your taxes, my bridge in Brooklyn is still for sale.

Bill Clinton promised to cut taxes for the middle class, too, and he said he would only raise taxes on those making over $200,000 a year. Shortly after he took office, he raised taxes on everyone making over $30,000 a year, and he always found excuses for not supporting a middle-class tax cut.

By the way, Obama has specifically said that he wants to put tax rates back to where they were during the Clinton administration. That means he's going to raise EVERYONE's taxes.

some food for thought:

{we are only returning to President Clinton’s 1993 tax increases.

Wrong. There is a major difference between 1993 and 2009 that Obama and McCain alike are both failing to articulate. In 1993, the U.S. was one of the world’s lowest-tax countries, with Europe mostly at much higher rates, and most of the Asian economies too underdeveloped to be alternatives for investments and businesses. Eastern Europe was under a cloud of uncertainty and instability following the rapid demise of The Soviet Union on Christmas Day 1991. The 1993 tax increase left the U.S. as the leading free-market economy, albeit at a smaller margin than before.

As we enter 2009, the U.S. position in the world is extremely different than it was 16 years earlier. We are no longer the low-tax beacon of the major industrialized world. Numerous countries in Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia and elsewhere now have lower capital gains taxes than the U.S. The same goes for top marginal income tax rates, where Albania is at 10%, Estonia 13% and Russia 17%, just to mention a few. Here in the U.S., the current top rate is 36% for Federal, and if you live in NYC or California, you probably pay very close to 50% all-in. Our 15% long-term capital gains tax can’t compete with the 0% rates in many other countries, but don’t forget that many capital gains taxes aren’t long-term, at which point you will pay 36% or higher.

The effect of the current high-tax policies is becoming an increasing disaster. There has been no employment growth in places such as Silicon Valley in the last decade, because U.S. companies are choosing to locate more employees in lower-tax areas such as China, India and Eastern Europe

We have some of the world’s highest capital gains and income taxes, so we are hemorrhaging investments and human capital to those places where they are not taxed as much.}

Reagan Didn't Confer with Khalidi!
I met President Ronald Reagan as a young woman when he was campaigning and my mom and I were actively involved to get him elected. In fact, my mom attended the inauguaral ball as the president of a republic women's group when he was elected governor. The media never mocked him like they did Palin and diminished his ability as a governor when he ran for U.S. President. He didn't have any anti-American terrorist connections nor ever say that he wanted to bankrupt the coal mine states and skyrocket electricity. He didn't have dinner with Ayres or invite Khalidi to the ball. He also produced his valid U.S. birth certificate as public record so he didn't have an identity crisis and he didn't have five or six aliases. He didn't denounce his citizenship to become an Indonsian citizen and travel with an Indonesian passort. He was an open book and a true American so for any talk show host to compare President Ronald Reagan with Barack Hussein Obama II who snubbed his nose at the American people and the courts and refuses to produce a valid birth certificate and Citizenship papers after re-entering the country as an Indonesian citizen in violation of the constitution and as a lawyer who knows the law - in no way even comes close to a great man who loved America and proudly placed his hand on his heart and wore the AMerican flag on his lapel and upheld the U.S. Constitution and protected Americans from anti-American terrorists and immoral acts that include infanticide.

If Obama does NOT win

Don't count on the media
Well Larry, if our media doesn’t suppress the truth when the reality hits the stock market or suppresses those who will be responsible for all the tax hike that the democrats will need to put into place to provide for all those minorities who most likely will reap the benefits as they continue to blame and bash Bush for their policies and laws that they put into place to get votes and created this economic crisis. Then, maybe the truth will set conservative Americans free. But, I’m not counting on it, nor should you. What do they say a lie will travel the world, while the truth is putting on its bootstraps? We already know the American media are more interested in the lie, then any truth. Hear that LA Times.

McCain's program?
If McCain had any program you guys wouldn't have to be so busy trying to remember all those outlandish claims about Obama. So funny.

Obama socialist? Then McCain is a Marxist, he wanted to nationalize mortgages across US!, said it in 2nd debate! Of course it was a gimmick, moronic idea, so he simply silently dropped it. His campaign, entirely devoid of ideas, is nicely completed by Palin, who cannot construct complete sentences, and has difficulty remembering all the talking points.

About religion: GOP-ers are clearly atheists, because any religious person would be simply afraid to spew all the lies, fearful that some day they would have to face HIM. Phonies. This bigotry is simply disgusting.

Norman
John McCain does have a program and it's a socialist one.

John McCain said, "I'm going to spend $300 billion, and help homeowners who can't afford their mortgage."

Where's this money going to come from? From the taxpayer(Democrat-style) or just borrow more from China and other countries. (Republican-style)

I live in a condo with the mortgage paid off. Why should income be redistributed from me to someone living in a $500,000 house they can't afford?

Who is going to pay for John McCain's mortgage bailout?

Our future
You also have to remember that the stock market hit an all time high during Bush’s administration as it went to 14,000, which the democratic Congress purposely tanked when they gained more seats in Congress so that they could gain power again. What nice Americans they are, but then they hope for destruction and calamity; and, continue to use the word conservative as if it’s a negative image. It’s just a sign of sanity in a hateful world.
We conservatives have four years to regain power back, if it’s still available to us. We need orators and smart people who are incorruptible to hold those accountable that are and come to the forefront of the Republican Party. There are some really great leaders already out there with Sarah Palin, the Governor of Louisiana, Bobby Jindal, Tim Pawlenty, Rick Perry and Charlie Crist all are great speakers and can propel us forward. Rick Perry stands out when the Texas Governor policies have helped their economy where other states have failed. We just need to get a lot more of them. This election has made me want to run for office, locally because I have become sick of the one party slanted view that seems to have taken control. But, it also cost me a stroke in the process. I’m not a rich lawyer so I don’t know how I could ever afford to run. But, I have four years to find out if I can.

Both are socilists
While I understand WHY we bailed out banking I disagree with it.

If it is temporary and sold off later - great - if not, I like the lesser of the two socialists to handle the fix.

McCain is far less socialistic. Obama would more likely keep the program. Democrats love programs.

Obama is socialistic on practically every topic.
MCCain is not.

Yet, the democrats will likely try and fail once again. But, the damage will be done to all Americans not just the conservatives. Please remember that when voting.

"No Country has ever taxed their way to prosperity."

The Democrats are 'tax and spend' and the Republicans are 'cut taxes and spend even more.'

The Republicans doubled the size of the Department of Education. They added another $50 billion per year entitlement program. They mandated ethanol mandates and increased farm subsidies. They got us into a $150 billion a year social-engineering project in the middle east. All of these bills have been put on the national credit card.

The past eight years has seen as much national debt as in the previous 210 years.

A great country can implode from too much debt, no?

The future generations
The reality will soon hit whose youth voters that have decided to believe the Obama’s misinformation train and his lies as they graduate from our liberal colleges. They will soon discover that his policies will reduced the number of jobs available when 100 newly graduated all apply for one job, and that likely that the job will go to a minority, will these policies will finally sink in those liberal brains that were created by Professors like Ayers and Dohrn. They will learn the hard way that democratic policies have real consequences.

Will the truth finally hurt them? Will they realize the error of there ways? When he raises the minimum wage and we watch those jobs evaporate because Wal-mart, Sears and Kmart can no longer afford to continue to hire them and they clearly will not cut back on their over taxed profits. Will the democratic Congress create laws to force Wal-Mart to hire them, as they did with the banking industry? And if they are able to find a job to then watch federal, state and local taxes take well over half of their paycheck as Congress continues to spend with abandon on nothing as they struggle to make ends meet. Maybe then they will have learned their lessons and realize that the republicans really were looking out for the future, while the democrats laugh at them for believing their lies and then mock them for being gullible and naïve. Its happened before and will happen again, it’s the democrats MO. They will eventually become republican because of the democrat lies. It happened to me and I have realized my mistake for believing them.

No ...

Fiscally *Conservative* republicans are not tax and spend more.

Again republicans have *different opinions* they do not follow along and parrot talking points, anymore than reasonable democrats do.

This is a American problem -- Bush, McCain, and Obama are for the current bailouts. No choices now for fiscal responsibility.

Of course not
A great country can implode from too much debt, no?>>

No, but nice try. It implodes from too much wasteful spending and with no checks and balances or transparency for the American taxpayer. While taxpayer try to make end meet, our Congress continues to spend. The national debt is about spending, they are spending more than what they are taking in and they clearly refuse to stop spend, as with all the trillions that Obama want to put into place by have 5% of the population in taxpayers paying the bill. It is mathematically impossible to do. I went to a non-liberal college during the Clinton years and studied economics while there

Just like Clinton, who promised the same exact things that Obama is doing to get elected, he will break all those promises that his campaign advertises and quickly. This is the democratic MO. Make promises they have no intention of following through with to get elected and then tax, spend, tax and spend even more. And of course Obama and the democrats will raises are taxes and blame the republicans for having to do so, which is a fallacy that they continue to put forth. It’s got nothing to do with their out-of-control spending habits or there wasteful earmarks spending. It’s as if Americans taxpayers are Paris Hilton who wants to go on a shopping trip to Rodeo Drive with a Wal-mart credit card. I’m afraid they only take Visa and MasterCard there.

You also need to know about $845 billion he wants to give the UN to fight Global Poverty by putting Americans into poverty to afford to do so. He will be adding even bigger burden onto the American taxpayers to do so. When will enough be enough for the Democrats? You need to look past the political rhetoric and do your own research on what he has planned. God knows the media won’t be telling us as they sit in his pocket where his wallet is. Its call other people’s money.

Future Generations
If you want to be saddled with even more debt, then vote Republican. They will increase spending (John McCain's $300 billion mortgage bailout) and pay for it with by selling US Treasury securities, many of which will be bought by foreigners.

If John McCain wins, start learning Chinese, Japanese or Arabic. They will own the country.

Jo
"Fiscally *Conservative* republicans are not tax and spend more.'

geez, where have they been the past eight years?

Obama and his camp are liars.
Just like the Bridge to Nowhere, Wide-stanced-toe-tappers in the GOP who seem to think some Federal laws (like SS Fraud, Income Tax Evasion, ID Theft, etc.) are OK for brown-skinned foreigners to ignore...

I voted straight R this time; but it was because of the DNC attacks on Sarah Palin's family, not because I really think Senator McAmnesty is any better.

Let me take that back. John McCain irritates people because he has always had the same agenda. Barack Obama lies about his to suit his audience. Both are Odious; but Senator McCain is at least truthful about his plans...
