Obama in Prime Time: 7 Questions Left on Cutting Room Floor

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

President Barack Obama this week conducted his first prime-time press conference. After blaming the "failed theories of the last eight years" for today's economic crisis, he pushed for massive, unprecedented government spending.

Lefty radio talk show host Ed Schultz -- who once called Republican presidential candidate John McCain a "warmonger" -- sat in the front row, appropriately next to "reporter" Helen Thomas. Thomas used to attack then-President Bush with her statements masquerading as questions. In her question to Obama, she referred to our Islamofascist enemies as "so-called terrorists" -- which failed to elicit even a raised eyebrow from the President.

What, no Rush Limbaugh?

Obama even took a question from a "reporter" for the hyper-liberal Web site The Huffington Post. And, unlike Bush, the Obama administration preselected the reporters to be called upon and notified them in advance. Why did the others even bother showing up? If Bush pulled something like this, they'd call it "the discredited doctrine of pre-emption."

We offer seven questions left on the cutting room floor:

1) Mr. President, tonight you criticized those who argue that FDR's policies failed. I'd like to read a passage from the diary of Henry Morgenthau, FDR's Treasury secretary: "We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises. I say after eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started and an enormous debt to boot!" Please comment.

2) Mr. President, this is a two-part question. In your opening statement, you called today's economic situation "the most profound economic emergency since the Great Depression" and later "the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression." But in the 1981-82 recession, unemployment reached 10.8 percent in 1982 versus 7.6 today. Reagan inherited an annual inflation rate of 13.5 percent, while you, sir, came in with a 0.1 percent inflation rate. Prime interest rates reached 21.5 percent at the end of 1980, compared with 3.25 percent at the end of 2008. Reagan did not ask for a "rescue" or "bailout" package. He cut taxes and slowed the rate of domestic spending. Unemployment, inflation and interest rates went down. The Treasury collected more revenue than ever. First, how then -- at least so far -- is this the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression? And second, given Reagan's success, why not cut taxes, reduce domestic spending, and leave taxpayers and consumers with more money to save, spend and invest?

3) Mr. President, you say your administration will not torture. You've directed our military to apply the Army Field Manual, which relies on 19 psychological methods of interrogation and excludes waterboarding. Yet you are setting up an interagency panel to decide whether to use interrogation methods not included in the Army Field Manual. Aren't you having it both ways -- saying you won't torture or use enhanced interrogation techniques, while retaining the option to do so?

4) As a candidate, you called raising taxes a matter of "neighborliness." Your Vice President called paying taxes a matter of "patriotism." Yet your secretary of Treasury, Timothy Geithner, who oversees the IRS, failed to pay some taxes. The International Monetary Fund, where he worked, informed him in writing of his obligation to pay payroll taxes and increased his compensation to offset the payment. He accepted the compensation but failed to pay taxes. Can the head of the department that runs the IRS credibly expect others to pay their taxes, when he failed to pay his own?

5) In one of your first acts as President, you signed an executive order that many call the toughest-ever ethical guidelines. It bans former lobbyists joining your administration from being involved with any matters or agencies that might be related to their former lobbying efforts. It also prohibits anyone from working in an agency he or she lobbied during the past two years. Given that, please comment on why you have granted a dozen personnel waivers to your own ethical guidelines.

6) The respected nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office studies the effects of the various proposed stimulus plans. The Washington Times said, "CBO, the official scorekeepers for legislation, said the House and Senate bills will help in the short term but result in so much government debt that within a few years they would crowd out private investment, actually leading to a lower Gross Domestic Product over the next 10 years than if the government had done nothing." Your comment?

7) Tonight you blamed the economic crisis on the "failed theories of the last eight years," yet tonight you also criticized homeowners who put little or nothing down and purchase homes without the ability to pay their mortgages if "something goes wrong." Sir, which is it?

No charge to use these.

Liberals
Stopthepresses using a Time Machine, predicts The fairness Doctrine will fail. Read it at, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/search/label/liberalis m

These are supposed to be tough?
1) The depression era has been researched pretty thoroughly, and it turns out that employment fell steadily while Roosevelt pursued stimulus policies and had a huge set back when Roosevelt gave in to critics that complained about deficits, unemployment shot up again, so he returned to stimulus and unemployment went down. Sometime there are advantages to having distance from which to study a subject.

2) It is not clear in what sense Reagan reigned in spending. His administration used unprecedented deficit spending to acheive its goals. But primarily what worked for Reagan was lowering interest rates by the Fed. Right now the Fed has interest rates down to zero, so the option of doing what Reagan did simply doesn't exist.

Great Questions Larry: Never Be Asked
Those are the kinds of questions the American people would like answered. These were the same questions that would have been asked, had the POTUS be a Republican saying and doing these things. We see blatant double-standards applied to Republicans and Democrats. Maybe the Fairness Doctrine could somehow work out to our advantage; they'd have to give equal time to truth as they do to their fantasy of Obama.

Add to that Nancy Pelosi's earmark
Oh whats a few more million for her husband's seventeen million in Star Kist stock?

You must read and get really pissed:

PresidentialBalls.com

Fairness Doctrine?
Sorry, Brickhouse, that will never happen either. Someone has to decide who is being fair and who is not. The fairness commission will be appointees -- under a Democratic president. That means MSNBC wins and Rush loses. No, the only way to win is for Republicans to take back the media.

I know not to fully trust
numbers coming from government, especialy during FDR's time as they changed the process/methods in unemployment calculations during those years. It just makes sense that employment picked up dramatically during lend lease years and WWII. Also there were strikes and

Just common sense tells me that you can fill in for normal income using your savings and reducing outflows for awhile but eventually you must return to a normal income and reload your savings before you buy things. Government will do this by raising taxes, but will not reduce spending which has been the history of dems.

I will listen to Heritage Org and believe them as over the years they have been credible to say the least.

speaking of the Press Core
"Senate Democratic leaders have painted a very bleak picture of the U.S. economy. (Senate Minority Leader) Harry Reid was talking about soup lines. And (Senator) Hillary Clinton was talking about the economy being on the verge of collapse. Yet in the same breath they say that Social Security is rock solid and there's no crisis there. How are you going to work – you've said you are going to reach out to these people – how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality"

Sounds like a very pointed and "tough" question from a real journalist right? Unfortuately it came from softball lobber, and gay male escort Jeff "Gannon" Guckert, who not only got fake press credentials under an assumed name, but also pointed out the economic disaster we are currently in is "divorced from reality".

Obama's definition of Bipartisianship
With the "trillion dollar plus" stimulus aimed at his cronies and special interest groups, it is safe to refer to it now as how he intends to "Buy partisanship" permanently.

The GOP needs to fight the stumulus on the grounds that a poor economy helps fight global warming. It makes more sense than what he proposes.

Seriously...
You know you're not allowed to question The One.

And This Is The Change He Ran On
First of all, Larry, once again, you're right on! Please keep telling it like it is!

Those who voted for him just didn't understand that his definition of "change" is "do as I say, not as I do."

its time to start marching
the time for this complaining is over. What has to happen now is to organize and hit the streets.Do it in your city. Organize. Don't talk, walk.

Lon
I suggest looking deeper than high school history on this subject. As noted, it was not FDR's policies but major global conflict that got America's economy moving again. It was Hoover and FDR's policies that started that war in the first place (no Smoot-Hawley, no Depression, no Hitler), but that's for a different conversation.

There was a nearly identical market disruption in 1920 as in 1929, however, in 1920, Government did absolutely nothing about it and it recovered by 1921. The US would have recovered by 1930 had it not been for Hoover trying to fix things. FDR was right in his campaign against Hoover, too much spending caused the problem. Shame FDR didn't follow his own advice. The resiliancy of a market economy is shown in 1920. Had FDR immediately slashed away all the junk Hoover created, not expanded on it, unemployment wouldn't have just dropped to 17%, it would have dropped to 2% like it did by 1922 after the 1920 recession.

http://www.gpoaccess.gov/usbudget/fy05/sheets/hist01z1.xls

Hoover boosted government spending by 30% for his final year in office. That's when the unemployment rate when bonkers. The year that there was an unemployment spike under FDR (1936), Government spending was increased by 28%. Government spending declined in 1937 and 1938 and, surprise surprise, unemployment declined along with it.

Lon Pt 2
Reagan's approach is different than today. In 1980, rates were too high and there actually WAS too much saving. High interest rates promote investing of capital but not using the investment pool. There was a lot ready to be invested but no one wanted to take advantage of it. Today is a different story. Our rates have been too low for too long. No one wants to invest at low rates, so there isn't any capital. All that shows up is funny money created by our fraudulent fractional reserve banking system. To fix our problems today, we need to raise interest rates (or better yet, let them float at market rates, no Fed manipulation) and cut government expenses. We need to promote savings from which we can draw business investments. Capital doesn't just manifest itself by Government decree, it comes from private individuals saving. We haven't saved in a long time, so there isn't anything to borrow from. Government spending and low interest rates are the last things we need right now.

preselected questions
Ok President Obama preselected reporters to call on. President Bush hid selected people, who were not reporters in the crowd to ask loaded questions.

Good article, great questions!
It is so sad that so many conservativs see what so many liberals do not. If I believed in hope over experience, I would say let us hope conservatives are wrong. But of course experience always trumps hope. It does not take a doctoral economist to understand what our government is doing to the American economy. Plainly put, we are screwed. It is time to brace ourselves, start planting gardens in our yards and our balconies, or worse, time to start sizing up tents for those tent cities that will begin to spring up in a couple of years once this money is spent and wasted.

Keep up the great writing Larry Elder! And hopefully someone with the power to do something will heed the warnings and save us from ourselves.

Obambi
Once again Mr Elder strikes to the very heart of whats wrong with this administration. It says one thing and does another. Heaven help us all.

A Must Read
The Obummer administration will never answer those questions. So....

If you want to understand where Obama is taking us, read Saul Alinsky's book "Rules for Radicals." It was required reading for sociology and social work graduate studies, and is a real eye-opener. When I read it for the first time years ago, I couldn't imagine that a U.S. President and Congress would actually implement Alinsky's ideas. Goodbye democracy, hello socialism.

Submitted by a sociology professor who is actually conservative - an almost extinct breed.

Obama is an idiot
In a month's time this man has done more to hurt our country than anyone I can think of. I could go on about all the qualities he lacks but instead I am taking that energy and working hard to make sure he does not get another 4 years. The conservative party , needs to go out and work hard and start now. With Michael Steele we have a chance.Maybe a wealthy conservative can help give away the freebies to kids to get them to vote conservative like George Soros did giving away things to kids if you sent in 25.00 and the prizes got better as you gave more. He flew people all over the country to canvas for this brain dead fool. Conservatives will have to work very hard and I know of many who are ready and willing. I am proud that I am one of the 57 million who did not drink the Obama Kool Aid and did not vote for him.

Mr. Obama --
Won't you please have the integrity to answer these questions, sir?

Won't you please have the courage to answer these questions, sir?

Won't you please consider it your duty and honor to answer these questions, sir?

Can we please have a president who does what's truly right, regardless of what his party or the people think?

cabobby
"preselected questions
Ok President Obama preselected reporters to call on. President Bush hid selected people, who were not reporters in the crowd to ask loaded questions."

And you can prove the correct?

And lets say that what you said was true, that makes it ok for Obama to preselect?

Repeat after me " he is only a polititian"

Pre-Staged Press Conference
Just another example of Obama's staging of questioning so that he has pre-memorized his answers so that he appears consisive and 'presidential' unlike his stumbling without a teleprompter. Its all just propaganda.

Great column Larry.

WORK TO UNSEAT COLLINS, SNOWE & SPECTER!!!

cabobby
The point is cabobby that obambi says one thing and does entirely something else. He maintains the old liberal lies of "America is in the worst crisis since (fill the blank)" Libs work on fear and pressure. Hussein sounded this past week like one of those used car salesmen who try to pressure you into buying a lemon NOW because there are so many other buyers for it waiting to get it. The largest bill in American history and it was passed in only 5 or 6 days? Something is wrong with that

Once Again....

Obama is going to HAVE to concede one primarily
important fact:

Those who voted him in are not who he is
talking to in a press conference.

One-time voters who will not even vote again,
much less pick up a phone to call a Congressman
or Senator.

But as long as he is still campaigning they
will show up for the rallies!

Wishing on a Star...
Boy, I would love to hear Obama have to answer those questions...but, I would give the reporter a chance to follow-up if the President skirted the issue or used faulty logic in his response. Many times, a question is asked, then the answer does not address the question...and there is no chance to ask for clarity.

I do not trust our government...why can't WE THE PEOPLE hold hearings like the ones Congress holds to scold and embarrass the CEO's and others (I am so unimpressed!)...how many times has government wasted our money or mismanaged it...I would wager to say that they have thrown away more money than any CEO could ever imagine? They are worse than the CEO's in my opinion!!!

bostguy
That was hilarious...repeat after me he is only a politician I cant stop laughing

Obama is an idiot
This man has done more in a month to hurt our country than anyone else I can remember. I could go on and on about his inexperience and socialist ways but I am choosing to take that energy to make sure he does not get another 4 years. The conservative party will come together under Michael Steele. Hopefully, we can find a rich conservative to give out the goodies to get the young out to vote like George Soros did for Obama, buying all those votes. I am proud I am one of the 57 million who did not drink the Obama Kool Aid and did not vote for him. None the less, we have him now and God help us. He may be all who can help us with what is going on in the political arena these days.

Alison
Thats a great point. He stages these "concerts" and people go crazy leaving the impression that the American people support his plans. Its all about appearances.

On a side note did anyone else see the senate dems schlep out the 3 turncoat republicans when they talked about the "stimulus" plan? Lets impeach those 3.

some perspective
I would be shocked! shocked! to learn that no prescreening of reporters ever takes place on presidential press conferences.

Gee, I wonder why Elder neglected to mention Jeff Gannon back during the Bush or McClellan press conferences?

We all know how "freewheelin" and open to scrutiny was the Bush administration.

Cough.

Reagan did cut taxes, but at the cost of ballooning deficits.

Unlike today, in Reagan's era Paul Volcker as Fed Chairman was able to cut interest rates to stimulate economic activity.

That is not an option today, as the Fed interest rate is already virtually at "0".

There is no where left to go.

Where was Elder's outrage about the socalled government debt that may accrue as a consequence of today's stimulus packages during the Bush years, when under G.W. Bush the national debt almost doubled(from 5.7 trillion dollars in 2001 to well over 10 trillion when he left office)?

The critical difference is when Bush took office, the nation was not in dire economic circumstances as when Bush left office.

So you could argue that Bush accumulation of such massive debt was totally unnecessary and utterly indefensible, since Bush inherited an economy from Clinton that was not on the verge of collapse, unlike the one Bush bequeaths to Obama(which requires massive stimulus to get the economy moving).

FDR reduced unemployment from 25% when he took first took office, to 14.3% in 1936. That was some achievement. Between 1937 and 1941, unemployment went back up(17%-19%), but many attribute the rise to FDR's abandonment of his earlier policies..in 1938 FDR sought to balance the budget by raising taxes and cutting government spending.

It was not until the mammouth public-works program called the 2nd World War that unemployment numbers were reduced(thru conscription in the Armed Forces).

FDR had some faults, as well as some virtues.

Let's at least be honest.

WANT SOMETHING TO FEAR? READ THIS!
Ted Kennedy's endorsement of Obama was crucial to him winning the Democratic nomination and the presidency. Senator Feinstein was the Master of Ceremonies at Obama's coronation. Harry Reid is Senate Majority Leader and Nancy Pelosi House Speaker. Roland Burris and Ted Kaufman filled Obama's and Biden's Senate seats. What do Kennedy, Feinstein, Reid, Pelosi, Burris and Kaufman have in common?

Click ApolloSpeaks for nthe answer

The reasons these questions weren't
asked are three fold:

1. There aren't enough buses in D.C.;

2. There weren't enough brains among those asking the questions; and,

3. They are too difficult for this dolt of a President to understand (remember, he IS just a marionette).

I would dearly love to slap the inept little brats upside the head! The government is extremely untrustworthy, and that is because they are not for the people. They are a lofty oligarchy that is RAPIDLY turning into a dictatorship under Obabba. And the funniest part is that those little creatures that pretend to be our representatives will be silenced just like We The People have been silenced.

Obama
is a manipulative and crude liar. Now it's "ok" to set the stage? The evidence of his incompetence grows with every step that he takes.

Americans had better wake up. This incompetent fool will be our demise.

FDR II
For those of you bragging about FDR:
"The German and American New Deals may have been merely whatever Hitler and FDR felt they could get away with. But therein lies a common principle: the state should be allowed to get away with anything, so long as it is for "good reasons". This is the common principle among fascism, Nazism, Progressivism, and what we today call liberalism."
P 131, Liberal Fascism, by Jonah Goldberg
READ IT AND WEEP for this nation. Obama wants to be another FDR: God help us all.

O's rallies
Alison said "But as long as he is still campaigning they
will show up for the rallies!"

They will especially keep coming as long as he gives out houses and other goodies like it's an Oprah show.

Strange Press Briefing.Teleprompter,too.
About half-way through President Obama's press conference Monday night, he had an unscripted question of his own. "All, Chuck Todd," the President said, referring to NBC's White House correspondent. "Where's Chuck?" He had the same strange question about Fox News's Major Garrett: "Where's Major?"

The problem wasn't the lighting in the East Room. The President was running down a list of reporters preselected to ask questions. The White House had decided in advance who would be allowed to question the President and who was left out.

Presidents are free to conduct press conferences however they like, but the decision to preselect questioners is an odd one, especially for a White House famously pledged to openness. We doubt that President Bush, who was notorious for being parsimonious with follow-ups, would have gotten away with prescreening his interlocutors. Mr. Obama can more than handle his own, so our guess is that this is an attempt to discipline reporters who aren't White House favorites.

Few accounts of Monday night's event even mentioned the curious fact that the White House had picked its speakers in advance. We hope that omission wasn't out of fear of being left off the list

What economy is Obama looking at
He was a community activist during the Carter administration. He was in New York during the Reagan administration or California. The statement Obama should have made is one he did actually make during the campaign Hillary Clinton complained about him giving Reagan credit for not putting the country in a depression. Obama identified the recession created by the Carter administration, and what Reagan did to get the country out of the worst recession since the great depression. No stimulus checks, no bailouts, and the bankrupcy courts were full of business, the inflation rate was over 13 points than it is today, while the prime interest rate was some 18 points higher.

n
Thanks, that is my new mantra for the libs on here.

Larry Elder is Irrevelant..
and so are his questions. Mr. Elder your party the gop lost the election due to the failed unpopular policies of former prez bush and the
former repub led congress. you had 8 years to implement our policies and they were not effective led to the mess the country is currently in, therefore the majority of american people turned power over to the democrats to solve the problems because republicans have no idea what to do.

Prez Obama and the dem led Congress are doing exactly what the majority elected them to do
change as in deconstruting the failed Bush legacy and doctrine of governace.

your column is no more than another form of whining sour grapes from sore losers.
grapes from sore lo

Left angle...
You lefties seem to forget that every REpublican and Blue Dog Democrat ALSO won their elections, and until Chairman Obama succeeds in taking our freedom away we live in a 2-party system.

And your sick Democratic Party is making a mess of things by the minute. We conservatives are here to keep you whiners and appeasers from killing us all.

2010 won't be a happy time for you if President BO continues to show such arrogance and downright stupidity about things.

lithium dangle
your objection to elder is that unlike you he is not a black who fully endorses black victimhood.

In your loser world blacks who leave the dims plantation are automatically the enemy.

But in your feebled mind you fail to understand, the messiah was not elected to repesent the grievances of black losers like you, make the leftists happy with his surrender to the terrorists and for the dims who he is tyelling can spend all the money they want.

The fool messiah was elected to represent the entire country. He promised to reach across the aisles to work with repubs. Yet his history has benn one of never working with the repubs.

Now he tells the repubs they can go f*ck themselves, he won and it will done his way. So much for hope and change. He makers losers like you happy for alienating the repubs but as history proves the minority party will one day regain power.

Hopefully when the repubs regain control of congress in two years they will remember the boorish behavior of your messiah and savior. Perhaps then the repubs will treat the clueless clown with the same level of disdain he is addressing to to the millions who voted against him and their elected officials in congress.

Payback is a b*tch and it will happen to your childish messiah

How does this make sense?
I think larry could also ask about Rendition too. Obama is keeping Rendition in place. Those with the 'Disorder' want to close club Gitmo, fine. But Rendition leads to real torture in less kind countries, not just getting a cockroach wet. How can a caring, loving, terrorist sympathising liberal justify this? Gitmo is paradise compared to other mid-east countries when they get a hold of terrorists.

Warning

Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009

It has already started....

Ammunition Accountability Legislation

Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo!

The bill 20 that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana ) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers.

Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is coded.

Any privately held uncoded ammunition must be destroyed by July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo.)

They will also charge a .05 cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least $2.50 or more!

If they can deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun!

This legislation is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama , Arizona , California , Connecticut , Hawaii , Illinois , Indiana , Kentucky , Maryland , Mississippi , Missouri , New Jersey , New York , Pennsylvania , Rhode Island , South Carolina , Tennessee , and Washington .

Send to your friends in these states AND fight to dissolve this BILL!!

To find more about the anti-gun group that is sponsoring this legislation and the specific legislation for each state, go to:

Jerabaub
Good lord, how many times will you libs pontificate on Reagan's deficits? He cut taxes but that led to increased Federal tax collections. Just as under Bush, Congress noted those increased funds and spent 2-3 times the increase. Unlike under Bush, Reagan had a DEMOCRAT majority in both houses and had to minimize their legerdemain by playing their game. Stop lying, you know that lower taxes increase tax collections. By engaging in this libspeak you identify yourself as one that is willing to tell half-truths in order to convince the weak-minded of your position. Raising taxes didn't work, ever, in the past. Ask Bill Clinton about the windfall he got with his luxury tax on yachts. Ask all of the hourly workers in that industry how it affected them.

Left angle
Okay, let's see. Obama outspend McCain 6 to 1, had an economic recession of historic proportions, an unpopular president and ongoing wars, MSM fawning all over him and refusing to report accurately(see treatment of Palin vs treatment of Obama)and managed to win a grand total of 53% of the vote. Doesn't seem so impressive when you look at it that way, does it?

You seem to want to perpetually accuse the Townhall columnists and Repubs in general of "whining." If you had any sense, you'd realize Obama is the one who sounds like a whiner. Oh, poor me! The GOP won't go along with my socialist agenda. Besides, the "whining" of the GOP pales in comparison to the shrieking of you left wing kooks the past eight years.

You see, that's the problem with having to lead. Its easy to sit around and criticize everything(like you dummycrats have been doing for eight years) but now that you're in charge, you actually have to prove you're up to it and that your methods work. They won't, as they never have in the past and as history has shown over and over again. Enjoy the majority while it lasts because Obimbo is doing exactly what will cause disaster for the Dems, "overreaching," just like 1993, and we all know how that turned out for you.

If only!!
The slobbering press never asked him a pointed question during the entire campaign. That task fell to "Joe The Plumber", for which, in their shame and embarrassment, the MSM crucified him.

The slobbering continues...

Miss Larry on 790 AM
I couldn't believe some of the comments Barak made during his press conference, which showed either glaring ignorance or deception. I stopped counting at about 4-5.

He will go down as a very poor president unless he drastically changes. No one who has such an aversion to the facts and truth can ever be great.

Re: Oh Brother Where Art thou????
Look, Glowbama and his cronies are going on the premis that FDR policies worked-WELL THEY FAILED HORRORABLY!!!! And this is the path that this clown is taking us down and saying that it is the best for the country and all this clown knows is SOCIALISM!!! And the rest of the Dems this is all they know too, I did not vote for this clown, so get ready to say goodbye to the Free market system!!!

Seven Questions For President
Mr. Elder,

Surely you know the main street media will start asking the new president these seven questions the very minute hell freezes over.

AND - THIS IS NOT 1929

Has anyone advised Barack Hussein Obama that the times have changed since the crash of 1929.
We have a different economy, much more global, technology has changed the way we do business, a different job market, new businesses tied to the global markets, are off the gold standard.

Spending over a trillion dollars of our taxpayers money doesn't matter to the Democrats.
They have the printing presses warming up.

To Left Angle & the Rest of the Lefties
I think that there should be qualifications for all of the Obamaites and those ever farther to the Left. Here they are:

1) Liberals must use their brains, instead of their emotions and gut feelings;
2) Liberals must back up their statements with facts instead of their fancies;
3) Liberals must not call any other commentator by names that are intended to pigeon-hole them as less than human;
4) Liberals must not preach, teach, urge, communicate or in any other fashion put forth the myth that Barack Obama is God, the Messiah, the Savior of the World or the Conqueror of all evils; (after all liberals do want to eliminate the freedom of religion);
5) Liberals must constructively participate in these discussions, instead of destructively put forth an agenda intended to destroy this Republic, the democracy in place and the Constitution which governs it;
6) Liberals must practice respect for others who post;
7) Liberals must not try to aspire to become an NBC news political pundit.

If liberals were forced to adhere to these simple rules, there would either be a modicum of decorum to these threads or (and this is most likely) there would be no liberals participating! I have yet to meet the first liberal who could follow any five of these 7 requisites!

Fairness Doctrine & The Big 3
I would like to ask Mr. Obama if he should seek a return to the Fairness Doctrine would he make sure the FCC enforce it when it comes to reporting by NBC, ABC and CBS. The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University surveyed 585 network news stories between August 23 and September 30 where in Obama got 65% favorable coverage to just 36 for McCain. CBS gave 73% favorable to 31% for McCain, NBC gave Obama 56% to McCain's 16% (however NBC had only 6% unfavorable to McCain's 59%) and ABC News gave Obama 59% favorable to McCain's 42% (yet ABC gave Obama only 21% unfavorable compared to 50% for McCain).

Now ABC, NBC and CBS will be under the control of FCC regulators as will their affiliate stations around the US. If the Fairness Doctrine causes local AM Talk Radio stations to give equal time for all sides, will the "Main Scream Media" over the networks be forced to do the same?

I am sure they won't as Madame Goebbels (Pelosi) and her ilk will figure out a way for Der Fuhrer (Obama) to isolate the networks from the Fairness Doctrine.

For you far Left-Loonies out there - Yes I called the Far-Left Democrats Nazi's as I believe Jonah Goldberg has finally proved and laid to rest the argument that socialist programs are the brain-child of Fascists and Nazi's NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!

CVN65
Not exactly.

Reagan made a pact with Tip o'Neill that if Tip did not oppose Reagan's govt expenditures on our military, Reagan would not oppose Tip and other Democrats calls for social spending.

Yes, Reagan cut taxes, but the deficit ballooned...because tax revenues could not keep pace with government expenditures.

As for G.W. Bush, he had a GOP congress for 6 of 8 years of his presidency, yet under his watch the national debt almost doubled.

Those are the facts.

jerabaub
you are wrong.

Please read history books, blogs, articles that are written by people other than Ayers and his friends.

Questions Not Asked
The Impact of Fear Mongering
It is unfortunate that no one has asked the President how many jobs have been lost as the result of his fear mongering supported by the media and the Democrats. I were a business owner and I heard and read the constant drum beat of the "sky is falling", I am sure that I would be driven to cut my workforce and cut spending on my business. I am also sure that the drum beat of gloom and doom have slashed any incentive for customers to buy exacerbating the problem. If the truth be known, much of the continuing malaise could be the result of the constant negative hammering of the economy by the President, the media and the Democrats. A perfect but highly damaging example of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Democratic brilliance????
How much purchasing power that could be used to buy homes, cars and other goods have been stripped from the economy by the Democrats. If TARP 2 and the stimulus packages are so brilliant and felt to be responsive to the current economic challenges, why does the market tank further every time the Democrats introduce their latest plan, stripping out more potential spendable income?

jerabaub
You claim that the Bush deficits ruined the economy. How can it be then that the even larger deficits that will be incurred by the Messiah and his minions will reverse the trend?

Congratulations to Larry
Congratulations Larry,

I have just added you to my list of African-Americans who would be a better President than Mr. 0bama.

The other two on my list are:
Thomas Sowell
Walter E. Williams

Geek45, add 2 more to the list
1. Michael Steele
2. Alan Keyes

geek45
Why waste Larry's talents on the Presidency. How about we put him in charge of MSM. That is where the real problem is.

We expect the President to spin the truth in a way that benefits him. We expect the MSM to hold the President accountable. Right now only the MSM is truly not doing their job.

Debt
Let's see now:

It took George W. Bush eight years to run up $5,000,000,000,000 in debt. That's $625 billion per year.

On the other hand, it took 0bama less than four weeks to run up about $700,000,000,000 in debt. That's $9.1 trillion per year.

geek45
recheck your figures. The dims under pelousy and corrupt land deal reid controlled the purse strings the last two years. They deserve somne of the blame for the deficits as well.

Plus while the repubs are accused of huge pork spending, while only a minor part of the budget were also involved with pork abuse.

But the dims conveniently over look the $45 trillion spent on the so called entitlements started during johnson's war on poverty

Obama spend-o-rama
Great article. If Obama ever got any of these well thought questions, his answer would no doubt be:
Well, uh uh uh, you see here, uh uh, well now, uh uh.....

Stimulus Plan! Perhaps
some of the brilliant economists who post on TH can explain why the Big O delegated the task of writing this monstrosity to Pelosi and Reid. Is it because he knows it's got a chance of making matters worst and failing? When it does, he will be able to point the finger at these two and put the blame on their shoulders.
This is leadership?
No way Jose.

Larry Elder
I guess missed it in the Constitution where it makes him chief executive of the press.

LOVE IT, OH - my GOD
"Reagan did not ask for a "rescue" or "bailout" package. He cut taxes and slowed the rate of domestic spending."

Reagan nearly TRIPLED the national debt.
and them GWB doubled it.

Oh wow thats ...oh ....funny stuff.

This country is doomed
and when we have been completely destroyed and there are only the very very rich (and politicians) and the very very poor, we will have no one to blame but the socialist media and their brainwashed liberal dimdems to blame. The blame will fall squarely on them.

willieb
That is how the system works. Unlike the past 8 years where bills magically appeared from the WH rose garden and then where rammed through congress during midnight sessions a day later. The House is supposed to draft the bill, the Senate mulls it over and it gets ironed out in joint committees. civics 101

you want the "journalist" to ask those

roy
At least we had demonstrable evidence that Jeff Gannon had a pair and knew how to use them. Your "reporter?" Not so sure "gelding" wouldn't be the right term. Arianna is famous for favoring the emasculated.

Excellent questions
All of these are questions that obviously need to be asked. If asked, I imagine President Obama would start with ehs and ums, before stating once again the campaign rhetoric, and the wonderful 3 pronged approach.

For being considered such a brilliant mind, our 44th President is exhibiting very little wisdom.

bubbachump
BDS still botherin' ya?

BubbaGump
You forgot to mention the constant deception, obfuscating, BS-ing the public, and of course the ageless bate and switching. Soemtimes I wonder how people will feel when they realize that they've sold their soul for $13 a week the first year and $8 a week the second year. But, of course, you libs realize, most people will never put 2 and 2 together.

BubbaGump
Go count the various ways to cook shrimp!

Hey Bubba! You
are right! However the Executive Branch always provides the guidelines and initial imput for the proposed legislation and Congress puts the finishing touches on it. How do I know this? I worked for the Executive Branch for 30 years and was intimately familiar with the branch in my agency that wrote the guidelines.
The Big O admitted that he gave the responsibility to Pelosi and Reid which makes me wonder whether or not he had any imput.
Just an ole man's opinion Bubba.

What Obama doing different?
So the new President blames the crisis on the old President's policies, and then proposes a radical change. Do even more of what the old president did? Bush's problem was apparently not spending enough money???

Obama is all talk with no original ideas of his own. His social policies come from the far left, his economic policies come from the socialist movement, and his security policy comes from John Lennon's "Imagine." Ultimately, he is just a talking head who will find out that governing in the real world is not the same as in the imaginary world where a good speech and a good look are all that is necessary for a change.

What about the census taker?
Obama will switch the authority from the Commerce Department to Rahm Emanuel, the higly skilled political operative. Is this verging on an impeachable offense?

BubbaGump
No, this bill isn't being rammed through at all...it is completely bi-partisan. Riiiigggghhhttt!!!

Sam Allen
"Obama is all talk with no original ideas of his own."

So is the Republican party, they TALK about small government but DO the opposite.

It was Republicans (2001-2007) who spent more than the Democrats. They increased pork barrel spending from 3,000 to 14,000 projects a year, NOT PAID FOR.

They have engaged in a six year social engineering project in the Middle East that costs $120 billion a year and may well last another 100 years, NOT PAID FOR.

They have added another layer of entitlement spending that costs $50 billion a year called Medicare Prescription, NOT PAID FOR.

Mandated $4 billion a year in ethanol subsidies, as well as drastically increased cotton, sugar, soybean, corn, wheat handouts, NOT PAID FOR.

Doubled the size of the Department of Education, NOT PAID FOR.

not at all. i was pointing out what mr. gannon was doing while real journalists were learning how to be journalists.

So then, where is all this change we keep hearing about? Obama is going for more of the same, only bigger!!

Now you know the one will not answer. My goodnes do you not know, this is about power, not the economy. He told you, we can't eat, drive, heat our homes (his at80 deg), and live like we want, the rest of the world has hurt feelings, and you know that will not stand. No Larry it's time to buck up, after all he won.

roy
As I understand it, you are equating placing a "plant" in the press room with controlling the entire room.

As always with liberals I'm never entirely sure if you're unable to make the distinction yourself or if you're merely being dishonest and hoping your audience is unable to make the distinction. I tend to suspect the latter.

Hey Willie
From the few articles ive read, The Obama Admin has been working with congress since the election on this matter. Rahm Emanuel is credited with very close involvement. I have not seen any indication the Obama admin would try to distance themselves from the bill. In fact he personally stated that his presidency will be judged by the effectiveness or failure of the measures.

zapdoodat
The Republican party lost its majority status in large part because they didn't adhere to conservative principles and conservates were tired of the runaway spending and corruption.

So where does that leave us? Do you foresee any improvement in the situation? Where the Republicans who have mostly lost their seats were reckless, their Democrat replacements appear to be virtually kleptocratic. What is your wish list? Higher taxes, lower spending? Higher taxes, higher spending? Massive spending with government debt? What is it that you expect you will get from the current president and current majorities in Congress and do you think it will be to your liking?

I care not at all for the reckless spending the last Republican majorities indulged in. I was outraged by it, and I certainly have no interest in defending it. I am, however, interested in your responses to the questions I've posed above.

roy
Gosh there little roy, i thought all you liberals were so inclusive and tolerant of lifestyles different than your own. guess i was misled, huh?

Sean
The republicans choose to act like infants. Rather than be seen "working with" the Dems they wanted to take the ridiculous stance that they are somehow opposed to government spending. They came to the table and said 'Tax cut" for which the Obama admin acquiesced. They then had provisions removed and then when it was time to vote they collectively held their breath and stuck their fingers in their ears. Like cowards I might add, they then ponied up the 3 votes so as not to derail the passage because they KNOW it will work.

PS if anyone believes that the GOP didnt calculate the failure of the bill you are lieing to yourselves.

RE Ahenobarbus
Terrific question. I would have to weigh my personal experience in on this. Since I have been a politically active spectator I would have to judge the facts in this way.
I saw Reagan/Bush nearly triple the national debt while claiming the mantle of fiscal responsibility.
Then during Clinton I saw an unprecedented growth period of entrepreneurial spirit and a lowered national debt.
Then GWB came along and doubled the national debt with a conservative majority for 8 years.
So from those facts I would have a hard time taking fiscal directions from conservatives.

Bubba Gump
Interesting, but tu quoque argumentation doesn't get you to a solution. It might give you some personal satisfaction, but it won't pay the bills.

BubbaGump
Interesting, but I never brought up Reagan or Bush. How does running down their malefactions, real or imagined, make the current proposed solution more feasible?

Submitted by a sociology professor who is actually conservative - an almost extinct breed."

Perhaps in the still quiet of the night there is an echo in the senate chamber. It is the voice of one of the most villified senators in American history.
The echo sounds something like, "I told you they were communists".
Compare the platforms of the Bolshevik Party, The National Socialsts Workers Party and the Democratic platform.
All of the worlds true starry eyed believers in Socialism/Communism/Technocracy are those who hold power because of the illusion it works or those who've never actually were afflicted by it.
Personally I dislike how the word 'Liberal' has been demonized and bastardized to connote those who advocate citizenry of the government, by the government, for the government. I much prefer its' classical definition.
Perhaps we can refer to the advocates of these policies by a new anachronym. We can call them NAC's. North American Communists.

Stimulus, failed theory of the next 4
President Obama doesn't know if his stimulus package is going to do what he says. It's nothing but a theory of his also. Geithner's plan with no details is even less then a theory. What we are seeing here if the stimulus bill doesn't work, is a failed theory for the next four years and if President Obama is elected for another four years, then it's a failed theory of his for eight years as President. The more President Obama thinks he's sticking it to Bush, the more his feet are going to be held to the fire.

normal
You will never see an unscripted news conference from President Obama. That was the single most cowardly show I have ever seen a President give. You will know when he gets a real question. Every other word in his answer will be "duh" or "uh".

Ahenobarbus
Yes I was trying to answer the questions you posed to zap. You asked what the solution should be. I was using the nat debt figures as reference points. Obviously debt is a constant, so is spending for that matter. So when I look at the pudding I see a picture of who does a better job of spending and debt management. It doesnt favor the conservative theories very well. Obviously only time will tell.

Questions Left
Good one Mr. Elder!
The world’s economy is in contraction and, therefore, the production of goods and services must realistically decrease as demand decreases. Productivity plunges and, most important, fewer tax dollars are collected. Common sense says that it is time for all to tighten their belts, most of all government. Let the primary orchestrators of this financial/economic disaster feel the wrath of citizens and the judicial system must punish appropriately. But in the long term, the commercial sector must rescue itself with minimal government intervention. Government initially created this mess with misguided policy and the financial sector created the unsustainable Ponzi scheme to the demise of all. So government is definitely NOT the answer to “rescue” the economy with future, unearned, tax dollars. Government must minimize interference and let the economy self-correct. The only worthwhile role for government at this time is to prevent outright fraud and theft (they are experts at perpetrating these two criminal acts) and punish serious wrong doing, especially amongst their own. This is the quickest remedy but it’s foolish to think it won’t be temporarily an uncomfortable, even painful ride. This is the reason wrong doing must be ferreted out and punished so this kind of national, now world, crisis does not repeat itself.

Power packed article
We need this "in your face" truth.

Questions Left II
Two thumbs down to the clown that makes me frown. The pretender will surely render more than a fender-bender with all this wild squander of tender. For from debt we’ll all drown while this fool with a crown fiddles away in DC town.

I’m at a point where I’m actually ashamed at the way the politicos are behaving: Feeding frenzy at taxpayers’ expense. I’ve fired off dozens of faxes and phone calls to my two senators and representative on the mindless spending, bailouts, the war, and illegal immigration but it seems it all falls on deaf ears or too many voters are not raising hell; too many are in the mode of deer staring at the headlights bearing down on them and only microseconds left to avert disaster. Uninvolved citizens equal loss of freedom and sure enslavement.

Hey Bubba! Thanks
for your comments and the civil discourse. I'm going to take a wait-and-see attitude over the whole issue. When this stimulus fiasco crashes and burns, it will be interesting to see where the Cover Your A** (CYA) starts.
Thanks again.

PS: When I worked for the Federal Government, and being a Contracting Officer, I mastered the CYA technique of self preservation.

Larry, You Are The Best!!!
Of course, these questions will never be asked. Obama is a demagogue. No such questions are allowed in his staged press meetings.

Bush will be remembered for launching two of the greatest demagogues of our century, Madoff and Obama.

Central Command & Control Does Not Work
Bubbagump offers, "So from those facts I would have a hard time taking fiscal directions from conservatives"

Reagan inherited a worse economy, double digit inflation, double digit unemployment, double digit interest rates and a big deficit. He didn't cry. He didn't blame anyone. He did not act like a victim. He simply lowered corporate taxes, trim the government and loosened restrictive policies and let the market fix itself. It worked.

Obama, on the other hand, instead of doing what has worked in the past has decided to go with never has, more government, more oversight and a crushing debt. USSR tried this before. Nice.

BubbaGump
Could you articulate what you believe the conservative theories are?

The anti-Keynesian theory
Keynes thought that deficit spending by the government would bring the world out of the Great Depression; it didn't. WW II did. The US put 10% of its population in uniform.

The only thing that's worked in peace time has been tax cuts. Put more money in people's pockets EVERY PAYDAY, and they will spend it, creating demand and that's good for businesses. The Bush one-time stimulus didn't work.

Some say that corporations don't pay taxes (they're passed to the consumer as price). If corporations get a tax cut and DON'T cut price, the one corporation that does cut price will be a winner. They exist to make money and have a fiduciary responsibility to make a profit. They aren't human and thus operate to the beat of a business, not human, drummer.

I'm out in the Hall!
I've got those questions on my notepad, but I'm out in the hall waiting to get a back seat in the press room. How long will I have to wait?

Not press Conference
What Obambi just did is so dishonest is revolting.
Reporters were so conciliatory and told what to ask.
Had Mr. Bush even attempted this they have gone ballistic.

SO

liberal press conference===love from reporters
conservative press conference=adversarial reporters
And one more thing..Helen Thomas needs to retire, she not only does not have clue what is going on, she's senile.

Unfairness Doctrine
Clinton wants 'more balance' on airwaves

Even though no member of Congress has scheduled hearings on the Fairness Doctrine, it remains on a hot topic on both liberal and conservative shows.

Today, radio host Mario Solis Marich asked former President Bill Clinton if it was time for "some type of enforced media accountability."

"Well, you either ought to have the Fairness Doctrine or we ought to have more balance on the other side," Clinton said, "because essentially there's always been a lot of big money to support the right wing talk shows and let face it, you know, Rush Limbaugh is fairly entertaining even when he is saying things that I think are ridiculous...."

Clinton said that there needs to be either "more balance in the programs or have some opportunity for people to offer countervailing opinions." Clinton added that he didn't support repealing the Fairness Doctrine, an act done under Reagan's FCC.

In the past week, a couple Democratic Senators, Debbie Stabenow and Tom Harkin, have both spoken favorably about the Fairness Doctrine, or holding hearings on radio accountability.

Rowly (GA)
The (Un)Fairness Doctrine: typical of the left, trying to force their opinions on the public. The left couldn't get the public to listen to Air America and Al Franken, so now they will use legilations to shove the socialist message down people's throats.

All they will REALLY do (and this is the end that justifies their means) is stifle the voices of dissent on the right. The public STILL won't listen to the socialist drivel, but Obama will claim the air waves are now balanced.

Once free speech goes, it's downhill all the way to totalitarianism.

Go ahead try it, see what you get
I observe that Iowa Senator Tom Harkin is the latest fan of the quote "fairness doctrine". It seems like it was yesterday that Harkin was here in Minneapolis for the memorial service for the late Senator Wellstone; a good man, may he rest in peace. Harkin used this solemn occasion to do some real, old fashioned stem winding. Bill and Hilary were there as well, as was Trent Lott, at least until Harkin made him feel like a @astard at a family reunion. That little tirade cost the DNC in a big way, it seems Harkin never learns.

I say let Obama and his Bolshevik cronies try and enact the fairness doctrine and anti second amendment legislation both at the same time. It will go over in a big way in the south, the midwest, the mountain states, Texas and Oklahoma.

Nothing is quite as amusing as the blind fool who runs head on into the mother of all buzz saws.

roy
You are right liberals have many more diverse ideas:

spend
increase government control
spend some more
spend some more
Increase taxes because we need more money to spend

Tax cuts SHRINK government control? Which would lessen both republicans AND democratic control...so which breeds MORE government coruption.

Whats wrong with tax cuts ?
Let me keep more of the money that I earn as an employee or as an employer and I will have more to spend, therefore the businesses will earn more to send to the government in the form of income taxes and sell more products and hire more people to service everyone else like me that has more more money to spend creating new jobs and create more spenders like me.Do you get it liberals ? Your plan is to tax me more, giving me less to spend, making the businesses that I might spend it at get less of my money because I have less to spend, making the businesses make less money and pay less income tax to the government. That makes the government tax me and the businesses more because it gets less money.Do you understand that philosophy Liberals ? Let me decide where my money goes, not Uncle Barack or Uncle Barney or Uncle Harry or Uncle Nancy. It's a simple Philosophy.

"Conservative theory" is a hard topic to hit in such a short post. Its complex and some of it makes perfect sense, but its the execution that looses me.

I think conservative economic theory is based on creating the ideal situations for its wealthy base.
1-Tax cuts are the ever present priority.
2-Small govt (nice idea) seems to be a conservative stand but the reality is that conservatives have grown government spending to blistering heights. So that holds little water
3-This wealthy base is unable to maintain a reliable majority on their own so they create a political coalition with "social" conservatives.
Which is a whole different topic.

I would vote Republican if they 1-actually did half the things they pretend to stand on. 2- voted as individuals rather than party line.
I just dont see either happening.
All the Best-

KUDOS to you!
Nearly every article I've read in the last few days has touched on one or two of these prime questions that BO obviously will scrupulusly ignore & remain silent about,(just as he has his long-form BC, his college records, his passports, etc.)
THIS article has notated every one of the probing questions that a TRUE "Transparent Presidency" like he promised--would have already addressed--or never have gotten his butt in hot water with in the first place.
I am MOST impressed with your questions--I wonder what his answers would be if he was Court Ordered to do so?
Can we not do that? He made a bunch of VERY derogatory statements--that were not true...
Why not insist he answer these legitiment questions?

Another thought in passing...
We've all heard the woman who said that now that "we" have Obama--she'd no longer have to pay her mortgage, or put gas in her car--because "we helped him, now he gonna help us"
Shortly after Nov. 4, a GA highway patrolman down near Savannah said "We be da President now". I could quote several others--but my point is: that Blacks honestly think that with a Black (or at least half Black) as President--he will help "his" people! What the heck is going to happen when the elitist, rich, half WHITE President tells 'em to go do something obscene to themselves??

Billions Over Baghdad: How Did $9B in Cash Airlifted From the Fed to Iraq Go Missing?

One month after the invasion of Iraq, the United States began airlifting planeloads of cash to Baghdad.

Between April 2003 and June 2004, a total of $12 billion dollars of US currency was shipped to Iraq where it was to be dispensed by the Coalition Provisional Authority for reconstruction.

To date, at least $9 billion dollars cannot be accounted for. In a startling new expose in Vanity Fair, Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalists Donald Barlett and James Steele follow the money trail from the Federal Reserve to Iraq

KY says, "Sorry, Brickhouse, that will never happen either. Someone has to decide who is being fair and who is not. The fairness commission will be appointees -- under a Democratic president. That means MSNBC wins and Rush loses. No, the only way to win is for Republicans to take back the media."

Rush's show is already fair and balanced. His program first shows or points out what liberals have said said or written, then Rush comments on the liberal positions. We get both sides with each and every sound bite.

Besides, if they push Rush hard enough, he could always go back to television. Do they really want to have Rush on television again? They have enough problems with him on measly AM radio, yet look at the following Rush has.

Let's keep the pressure on them. They're hoping we settle down and get used to the bone-head idea; if they can just get passed our outrage until we fall silent again.

Americans need to ROAR, and continue to ROAR until our voices are heard. Let them know we aren't going to "just get over it" and forget who said and did what in the destruction of our country. Every generation before us has handed down a better place to live for their children. What right does Obama and the liberal have to destroy our institutions and build their utopia of equal misery? Obama never mentioned dismantling America did he? Did he ever mention that all the groups who helped him get elected were going to take a huge chunk of our futures (for decades and decades)? Has Obama mentioned that this stimulus pork plan has a provision that will appoint a health-czar who will ration health care? If the health care system thinks a person is too old and not worth the expense for treatment, they will be expected to go home and go gracefully! Think about all the baby-boomers who are SOL now that they are entering retirement! They already got screwed out of their Social Security contributions all these years, they've lost a third of their assets in retirement savings, and now they will be denied health care because costs are being rationed for those young enough to benefit from treatment. Old people will become fully-depreciated!

More questions for President Obama
1) Of all the things that you could have chosen to do first when you were president, why would you choose to fund abortions overseas as one of the very first?

2) If the US economy is in such dire circumstances, how can you justify sending hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars overseas to facilitate abortions? Couldn't that money be better spent in the US stimulating our economy?

3) In exactly which US neighborhoods would you most like to send the detainees that you are going to free from Gitmo?

I hope the Kansas schools have hired a new consultant,TD2008.It sounds like Bill Ayers was working for them when you were being educated.

Bill you are right
Obama mocked Bush a few months ago for telling people to spend and help the economy after 911. The economy didn't tank after 911. Obama told people to not spend and look what happened. He also mentioned that the stock market dip in 2001 was the worst drop since the great depression. He likes to mention the great depression often. Considering that R. Emmanual said you should never waste a "good crises" makes one wonder what their true intentions are.

He is looking for ultra rightwing nutjobs like you.

Go.. Join him

About Paulson...
The Democratic Majority in the House and Senate forced it down his throat. He had the right plan to buy the bad loans at first, but the Dems couldn't wait for him to figure out the logistics on how to dispose of the bad assets to private investment via auctions,etc..... We had to do FAST,right or wrong .They were wrong and still are wrong. We also need more analysis on the new stimulus package before go even further in debt.

Yes, I am an American.
I am a hard working American that does not want to be taxed on my "Carbon Footprint" or to help finance the psyciatric care that it sounds like you need and would probably receive, for free, under the Democratic nationalized health program. Good luck ToTo.

DavidMac
That is correct. Just as the media shilled for the Democrats, especially Obama, they would love to have the airwaves totally left-wing.

It is hard to believe this is happening and we are unable to stop it. The spending bill is only a power-grab. The Red States will be ,especially punished for not supporting the Democrats.

It feels like a horrible storm is coming to destroy everything and everyone we love and we are powerless to stop it. Unbelievable.

noboma and the MSM
I said it the night of the so-called noboma meeting and I'll say it again.

The meeting was all set up and the players were picked by the "messiah" and his stupid MSM followers.

We have let the anti-christ in.

God help us all.

I must thank you for your response, since it demonstrates more fully than I ever could that your entire understanding of conservatism is based either on liberal caricatures of conservatism or a very superficial assessment of what some Republican politicans have advocated.

conservative theories
1. tax cuts
2. tax cuts
3. tax cuts
4. tax cuts
5. tax cuts

i believe you will find i have thoroughly outlined conservative thought above. "

There's no point in correcting your misconceptions. You're clearly not interested in serious argument.

BubbaGump, Part 1
I appreciate your sincere efforts at reasoned debate. You do have a couple operative misunderstandings. The first is confusing conservative thought with the habits of the political class. If the Republican party were universally faithful to conservative principles you wouldn't have seen most of the behavior you've described.

First of all, tax cuts are of a piece with limited government. The conservative ideal would be that discussion of tax cuts would never be an issue since there would be little argument with a government that spends public funds to serve only its legitimate purposes. The belief is that wealth is created by the people, and is the property of the people. Government makes a claim on that wealth at the sufferance of the people, not the other way around. I hope I am clear about this when I say that whether or not the person is wealthy is of no relevance to this point. The people have a primary right to what they have earned.

The legitimate purposes of government would be those clearly defined by the Constitution.

Republicans who have grown government are either not conservatives or were not applying conservative principles when they did so. These are the politicians that conservatives routinely call RINOs. Much of the conservative base chose to sit out the last two elections over precisely this issue.

Conservatism is a policial philosophy; it is not whatever Republicans do once in office. There is such a thing as a conservative Democrat.

BubbaGump, Part 2
You are mistaken about the conservative base being wealthy -- though there may be conservatives who are wealthy. There are, indeed, social conservatives and economic conservatives. However, every time I've checked, the median income of the liberal base was actually higher than that of the conservative base. Your assumption is made based on the supposition that only the interest of the wealthy can be served by tax cuts. Do a quick check of Democrat and Republican high officials and of high profile billionaires and you will quickly find that there is far more wealth on the Democrat side.

So why would someone who isn't wealthy care about how much corporations and the rich pay in taxes? First, see my initial point above. Second, they are not driven by envy. My life isn't made any better by making some millionaire pay more to the government. Only envy and schadenfreude could make me interested in seeing him pay more. It's quite the reverse, when corporations and the wealthy are taxed, then capital is being taxed. Capital is the source of investment. It is what creates companies, new products/services, and jobs. Overtaxing capital hurts consumers and employees. It might not be apparent since it is indirect.

I have no interest in whether or not someone votes Republican for the Republican party's sake. If that Republican doesn't adhere to Federalist principles, then I have no use for them.

An interview?
Hey Larry, why do you suppose I get the feeling that you will never be granted an opportunity to interview our Commander-in-Chief? Of course, were the "Fairness Doctrine" enacted into law by the duffers we call our legislators, it's possible that you could be invited, with reservations I would think. If indeed that were to happen, I suspect that you would be subject to a heavy dose of provisional word-morphing. The Open Society libs wouldn't dare call it anything else. The word censorship leaves one with a bitter taste in the mouth. You can bet on one thing. Your preferred script will never make it past the exit door.

Mr.Elder- $ 1.44/week is BIG?
W & GOp Tax Break=$1.44 A Week $600 over 8 years.

Now that was a big tax break...

No wonder they kicked out of KABC . You are such a liar.

If this tax break was so insignificant, why then have all you Dems been chomping at the bit to overturn these tax cuts ever since they were implemented?

GOP $100 Billion To AIG - $0 To Schools
No wonder it is fast becoming a marginal regional party...

Oh No !. It has already become a small regional party !!

It is a small regional party? What percentage of the national vote did McCain get again? I guess 46% of America is considered a small regional group of Americans, huh? Enjoy your slight majority while you still have it. Because, when the Dems' stimulus bill gets passes and in a best case scenario it does nothing to help the economy in the next 4 years, and in the worst case it actually damages it further, you will be amazed at how many current die hard Obama supporters begin to jump ship.

TD2008
Where did you get your tax figures from? They are incorrect.

One source:
Admittedly I will have to dig further as we start getting into dueling sources.

http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/134.html

"... If Congress and the President do not act to make permanent the Bush tax cut, known formally as the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 (EGTRRA), a family of four earning the median income can expect its federal income tax bill to increase by $2,681 between 2010 and 2011, a 48.8 percent increase. This will amount to 3.3 percent of the family’s adjusted gross income in that year and roughly equals what the average family of four spends on out-of-pocket health care costs each year...."

Excellent posts.

Mr. Elder
Wonderful, simply wonderful questions! I was wondering why the "press conference" looked so damned rehearsed............and now I know. Can you imagine the liberal outcry if the retired Texan had done this? Not a peep have I heard in Arkansas' print, tv or radio media! I think President Obama has found plenty of useful idiots!

God help us all.
