Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Guilty!

One of the nation's premier newspapers fesses up about allegations of pro-Obama bias. The Washington Post's ombudsperson, Deborah Howell, tracked its presidential campaign stories, front-page coverage and use of photos covering the period from Obama's nomination on June 4 to Election Day. The result?

Howell writes: "The op-ed page ran far more laudatory opinion pieces on Obama, 32, than on Sen. John McCain, 13. There were far more negative pieces about McCain, 58, than there were about Obama, 32, and Obama got the editorial board's endorsement. …

"Stories and photos about Obama in the news pages outnumbered those devoted to McCain. Reporters, photographers and editors found the candidacy of Obama, the first African American major-party nominee, more newsworthy and historic. Journalists love the new; McCain, 25 years older than Obama, was already well known and had more scars from his longer career in politics.

"The number of Obama stories since Nov. 11 was 946, compared with McCain's 786. Both had hard-fought primary campaigns, but Obama's battle with Hillary Rodham Clinton was longer, and the numbers reflect that.

"McCain clinched the GOP nomination on March 4, three months before Obama won his. From June 4 to Election Day, the tally was Obama, 626 stories, and McCain, 584. Obama was on the front page 176 times, McCain, 144 times; 41 stories featured both. …

"But Obama deserved tougher scrutiny than he got, especially of his undergraduate years, his start in Chicago and his relationship with Antoin 'Tony' Rezko, who was convicted this year of influence-peddling in Chicago. The Post did nothing on Obama's acknowledged drug use as a teenager. …

"One gaping hole in coverage involved Joe Biden, Obama's running mate. When Gov. Sarah Palin was nominated for vice president, reporters were booking the next flight to Alaska. Some readers thought The Post went over Palin with a fine-tooth comb and neglected Biden. They are right."

Guilty! Guilty! Guilty! Guilty!

Now, when can we expect The New York Times (endorsed Obama); Los Angeles Times (endorsed Obama); Chicago Tribune (endorsed Obama); and the other major papers to man up and admit their bias and their resultant anti-McCain, anti-Republican, pro-Obama coverage? What about ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN?

So, what does this admission tell us going forward?

MSNBC's Chris Matthews already gave us a preview. As a "journalist," Matthews recently said his "job" is to "make (Obama's presidency) work successfully." Put aside the absurdity that the anti-Bush opinion-giving Matthews calls himself a "journalist," but the same rabid Obama-for-president bias now becomes a cheering section. You have, no doubt, seen and heard stories about Obama facing challenges "more daunting than any president in living memory."

Really?

Take the presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Many Americans were alive when FDR took over in 1933. At the low point of the Great Depression, 25 percent of adults were unemployed, including nearly 50 percent of urban black adults. Economist David Wheelock, of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, says that by 1934, almost half of urban homes with mortgages were in default, and 7.3 percent of housing structures had been foreclosed. Today 6.4 percent of mortgages are delinquent, 2.75 percent are in the foreclosure process, and 0.6 percent of all housing units are bank-owned.

What about when Ronald Reagan took over the presidency in 1981? He inherited an economy with unemployment at 7.5 percent (versus 6.5 percent today); annualized inflation at 13.5 percent (versus today's about 4 percent annualized -- through the first three quarters -- and dropping rapidly); prime interest rates peaking at 21.5 percent (versus 4 today); and conventional mortgage interest rates of 15 percent (versus 6 today). Reagan inherited a presidency in full Cold War mode; the Islamic country of Iran just released 52 hostages held for 444 days; the Soviet Union had invaded Afghanistan; and the communists had infiltrated many countries in South America (our Western Hemisphere). Because of outgoing President Jimmy Carter's price controls and the imposition of oil company "windfall profits" taxes, Americans waited for hours in gas lines.

Raising taxes on the so-called rich is bad. Giving welfare "tax credits" to those who pay no federal income taxes is bad. "Bailing" out homeowners and lenders who made ill-advised decisions is bad. Rewarding the Big Three domestic auto companies from decades of poor management is bad. Obama wants to do some or all of this -- and more.

What will the pro-Obama media say about all of this? "Hey, come on, after the evil/incompetent/dictatorial Bush, anything is better, right?" "Look, what do you expect? Things are as bad as they've ever been, so give Obama a break!"

It's going to be a long four years.

Hey Larry!

Glad to see your post here. You're right on of course, as usual.

It WILL be a long 4 years but we need to stick together and resist this charlatan at every step.

Keep up the good fight.

Good Article Larry
Barack Obama is our president. I want America to be strong and successful.

It is not because Obama is black, or even because he is Democrat.

It's purely because my ideology and his are diametrically opposed to each other.

As my president I want him to succeed.

If his values were my values I would have no problem voting for him, but they are not.

So, I kind of feel that I must endure 4 years and hope that he doesn’t do to much damage.

But, I can assure you that what ever damage he does will be covered up. Nothing is going to stick to him. We could wind up in war 10 times as costly as Bush’s and it will be completely justified.

foxfire22
I've already taken to calling it Pravda dba The MSM or Pravda aka The MSM; this will henceforth be what I'll be referring to the mainstream media as, since it seems content now to become nothing more than a state organ for the Obama Administration, just like Pravda was a state organ for the Soviet Union's totalitarian government.

I agree with you that Pravda dba The MSM can be expected to cover up all malfeasance of the Obama Administration. The only organs during the Obama Administration that will be "speaking truth to power" will be conservative media - so it's small wonder that the Democrats want to try to shut it down by resurrecting the Fairness Doctrine.

By the way, did you hear about what some gays did at an Assembly of God church in Michigan this past weekend? Came into the service dressed in a way as to appear like innocuous visitors - then on cue, they all rose and doffed their clothing to reveal, I think it was, pink undergarments and started shouting pro-gay slogans, and several of them even rushed the pulpit. Bet Pravda dba The MSM didn't mention THAT incident. The poster mlund put me wise to this. When I first read about it, my first thought was, "I sure hope at that moment that the MEN of the congregation immediately got up to do their OWN re-enactment of the "Jesus expelling the moneychangers from the Temple" incident!".

Pravda dba The MSM will cover up for Obama for the same reason that Bill Clinton's people STILL to this day cover up HIS malfeasance: because THEIR reputations hang with HIS. If Obama proves to be the disaster many conservatives believe he will be, Pravda dba The MSM will lose what little credibility, if any, it still has left - although with the way it's hemorrhaging readership and viewership, in a few years much of Pravda dba The MSM will disappear anyway.

Here's a few other stats...
There's three points that should be made in response to Elder's "it's so easy, anybody can do it", drivel about the task of POTUS 44...... 1. The Credit Crisis sits atop the Economic Conditions. The Crisis is unprecedented in our fiscal history. The Credit Crisis prompted the $700BIL bailout....2. Today's unemployment figures don't constitute "part time" workers. This group was factored into the numbers during Reagan's era. If part-timers were discounted, the number would probably be higher than the Reagan days. Economically speaking, the situation facing Obama is probably "worse than we've seen in half a century", acording to Greenspan...3. Among Larry's listing of Obama endorsements is one that truly stands out. The Chicago Tribune endorsed Barack Obama for President. Yes, this seems like a "hometown" pick but it's a great read. The Trib was founded by one of the original members of the GOP. The paper's first Presidential Endorsement was bestowed on a skinny Illinois State Senator back in the mid 1800's. Since the Tribs endorsement of Lincoln, the paper has NEVER endorsed a Democrat for POTUS. That covers a span of over 150 years! During this period, the Trib passed on FDR (3 times), Adlai Stevenson (who was Governor of Illinois) and other stalwarts from the Dems...There's a great story about Lincoln walking into the newspaper office and buying a subscription to the Trib...For those who are afraid that they "don't know" Obama, I would suggest reading the Chicago Tribune endorsement.

Memories
Ummm.....What was that phrase from 2004 that the Republicans all but set to music?

Oh yeah!---Get over it, Larry.

TruthHurts
You make some good points. What turned me off on both McCain and Obama is that neither even so much as acknowleged the massive problems on the way. Demographics make the current Ponzi-style funding of social security/medicare untenable. What are the plans for when the options become raise taxes or lower the payments? The US govt will soon be inexactly the same situation Ford and GM are in now. They committed themselves to unfunded future payments they proposed to pay out of future profits. But we have no nanny govt to bail us out. And what about illegal aliens? If Obama institutes some sort of universal health care it will be aptly named indeed. Open borders and noquestions asked "free" health care. What a charming combination. Next comes energy dependence. Neither of the candidates came up with anything but platitudes. Until we bring our own energy sources on line and/or reduce our consumption we are hostage to people that do not like us. No good can come of this, or the dilution of the dollar that is occuring. So i agree that Obama faces a worse situation than FDR or Reagan. Obama may well be forced to try and deal with the results of the FDR policies now coming home to roost. I doubt he, or anyone visible in DC can do this successfully.

What about...
the Washington Times, New York Daily News and Post, Orange County Register, San Diego Union-Tribune? Why aren't you calling on these newspapers to 'fess up about their "bias"?

Oh, that's right, they're bias is in favor of conservatives.

See, it's esy to argue about "media bias". All you have to do is pick out the organs "biased" one way and leave out the ones "biased" the other way, and voila! your "point" is made. Of course, it's a thoroughly dishonest point, but heck, never let facts stand in the way of a good right wing pity party.:)

Oh, and here's a question: Since the Washington Post has its own ombudsperson to critique its own coverage, the Washington Times of course does the same. What's that, it doesn't? Gee, how about that!

Hi Larry:
The more I read your columns, the more I realize that we elected the wrong black man as president. Of course, I realized that with his view points but I keep learning new things from your column. I did not know he had drug problems in his younger years.

Amazing, I did not see anything about that. Well, he probably didn't inhale either!

Anybody for Condoleeza Rice as President in 2012? Assuming there is an election in 2012

What was Chris Matthews' job
back in 2000 and 2004?
How odd. I was under the impression that the job of a journalist was to report the news and leave his personal bias aside.
Obviously I was wrong.
Must be that the tingling in the leg is a short circuit in the brain.

open campaigning for Obama
The 'State Run Media', ABC,CBS,NBC,MSNBC etc. are addmitting their efforts to get the Kenyan(Obama) elected..just not publicly.

"Barry" is a marketing strategy......
The persona of "Barry" is a triumph of marketing - a marketing plan by Oprah and Soros, nothing more. He's an empty vessel; he himself doesn't really believe in much.

He's a careerist; an opportunitst. He simply has the gift of gab and like most lawyers, loves to hear the sound of his own voice. Given the financial meltdown in September and the GOP running a weak, liberal republican which failed to interest, much less inspire many conservatives, it's a wonder B. Hussein didn't win in a landslide. And without that plucky governor from Alaska, the GOP would have suffered a much worse defeat. Kudos to you Sarah!

The Messiah's over-riding philosophy is: "social justice", which is code for transferring wealth from the producing class to the under (or non) producing class. In other words, our "cool jazz" president is just a smooth talking version of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Do something about unfairness
Why dosn't somebody watch the press and send protests when they lie/omit news/show bias ?

There's a site: freedommarch.org

maybe these people will do the job with our help.
ALSO: EMAIL Senator Charles Schumer immediately and protest the "Fairness" Doctrine. Don't just sit there and blog !!

Glad to see an African American who is interested in the Truth about this election. That takes courage.

So many people feel the same way but ARE YOU GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT ? Join the MARCH planned for January 17th !!! Don't be a CHICKEN !!! or rather a sheep led to the slaughter.
Obama faced by CHALLENGES ? LIKE the FANNIE MAE MELTDOWN that he and his friends CREATED?just in time for the PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION ????? Honestly, with all the disinformation and lies I'm starting to think this was done ON PURPOSE to disrupt everything and usher in CHANGE and HOPE.

Break Them
The best way I can think of to get the 'news media' out of the way is to break them. I have begun calling sponsors of the television media when drivel is aired; others might try this approach. I never listen to 'news reports' of the major players for informational purposes because they provide propaganda only. Major newspapers are broke and television news can be broken, too. Conservatives need a new information source and the propaganda marionettes need to be out of business.

Over 2 Trillion Dollars
Obama spent $650 million on his campaign to buy into the office of POTUS. Add to that the monetary value of all the "media shills"; something I put a value of $1.5 Trillion you figure that the Socialists spent over $2 trillion to buy the White House & Congress.

Guess what? The Obama campaign will NOT be audited by the Federal Election Commission; but the McCain campaign will be audited.

Such hypocrisy.

Thanks, Larry

You have always been one of my favorite commentators, and this article is of the same level of clear headed thinking I am used to receiving from you.

Knowing a bit about your upbringing, I think we should all thank your folks for having done a great job raising their son.

Chris Matthews vs. George Will
I wonder if Matthew's recent admissions will cost him the way Will's work with Reagan cost him? It goes both ways - or should. Neither one should be allowed to speak - (Matthews can't speak, anyway, thick-tongued as an eager high schooler on his first date.) Will is a Feudalist, and should be treated as all Feudalists.

many of us aren't as worried about the horrors of the stock market as we are of the fact that Republicans of the Feudalist Branch were allowed to subvert the election. It was like watching French Royalty help Robespierre.
That's because the Feudalists prize their pharmaceutical stocks - (even though they suck) - and other socialist projects that benefit the rich and screw the poor.

Like Gardasil: how un-American, un-Constitutional can you get, telling people what they can't take (like drugs) but forcing schoolchildren to take a dangerous, untested vaccine?

There'll be a decline in the Republican Party, paralleling every welfare-for-the-rich program they propose. Down, down, down they go.

Real Republicans will likely go Libertarian, if we can't stop subsidizing like Dimocrats. We're all in trouble, we conservatives, if the Feudalists are allowed to perch atop the roost, leaving everyone below a target.

Buying the Papers
Dear Mr. Elder,

Wonder why ABC, CBS, NBC et al supported Obama? Why did MSM support Obama? Might as well ask why they attempted to lynch 3 innocent young men at Duke University. Unfathomable.

What it proves is:
The 4th estate needs an auditor, not an Ombusdman. The latter can sit there and say:
"oops," after the damage has been done. An auditor is also a Johnny-come-lately, but they have teeth - and impact.

WE are that auditor; seeing what's clear and obvious to anyone who is half sapient and sentient, we should stop buying and stop advertising.

Reader's Digest had a bright red cross under Obama's picture, but not under McCain's: knowing what I know about advertising, this was not a mistake or unconscious; it was deliberate and completely intentional. Therefore, I will not subscribe to that magazine any more. It will not occupy a space in my office anymore, either.

The economy might hurt us, but it'll certainly hurt newspapers and magazines worse, as we decide what we don't need to include in our shrinking family budgets and office spending.

I'll keep the internet, thanks; they can keep their newspaper and Reader's Digest.

my 2 cents
It's good to see a syndicated columnist make official what we have known for years and The Washington Post's admission is welcome - it's just a little late.

Two cartoons put it nicely one shows b o stepping out of a chariot and the four carriers, CNN, NBC, The NYT and CBS are bent over in exhaustion, while b o hasn't broken a sweat. The caption is one person saying to another - "you have to admit - Obama ran a nearly flawless race."

The other - two men reading the headline - 'Obama to get a dog." One says - now he'll have two. b o is sitting in a chair with his dog 'media' on his lap.

I found them both here. I can't find them anymore. Chuck Asay penned the one with the chariot but i don't know who did the other.

I have a dream that someday the media will own up to some shame for its performance over the last few years especially the last three months.

But I'm not holding my breath.

Journalistic integrity is like virginity - once it's gone it's gone FOREVER.

First Town Hall article that I saved
on my harddrive.

This is the kind of material that I have hungry for and had no time to compile.

Thank you, Mr. Elder

Re: The Savior???
You know when some one comes along and says that he is the "ONE" and I will save you from this mess we have in the world and yadee yadee!! There is just one thing to remember, there is a God and those who don't believe this that is fine but one rule from the christian side of the table, YOU DON'T MOCK GOD!!!!

four years
For the next four years we will hear that everything is Bush's fault no matter what it is. Nothing will stick to Obama when it comes to the MSM. I guess that I was wrong when I thought the ombudsman was to monitor the fairness of the news coverage during the election, not afterwards. These toads are trying to suck up now and make people think they have seen the error of their ways and get us back to buying their paper. I found it very interesting that a Harvard trained lawyer would make such an arrogant statement regarding Nancy Reagan in his first speech and already MSM has let that slide saying well he appologized. If MSM had done its job Obama would certainly not be our president-elect. His dubious past would not have been covered up. Isn't it interesting that they all told us that McCain was at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy but they failed to even report one thing about Obama during his Columbia years. I am sure that when he was at a liberal school like Columbia and with his socialist ideals he had a lot of interesting associations. MSM failed to report on any of ths. I for one will not buy their newspapers or the products that sponsor the likes of ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC or CNN.

Thank You
Thank you Mr. Elder for laying out the FACTS as clearly and precisely as you did. Living in a heavily democratic area as I do it is unbelievable to me the lies my friends choose to believe. Even when I quote them facts such as you have printed and Rush states, they refuse to believe it. They actually say to me, "That isn't true, it is just Republican hype." I have never seen otherwise intelligent people become so ignorant and complete followers. I don't know how we will overcome this since they refuse to believe the facts.

Media accountability--where is it?
It is interesting that now that the media has succeeded in helping to elect a President that they now recognize their bias. Also, that they admit to not investigating Obama's background. Now that they have admitted their failures will they do their investigative job? I find it reprehensible that the media can get away with admitting bias without being held accountable.

Ditto
Brenda - I have experienced the same thing here in Maryland. People that I have known for years as intelligent, educated and reasonable went and voted for Obama and ignored all of the facts that were presented to them. I was told that the FACTS that I presented to them were made up by the "conservative media." Right!

We have to fight the good fight for the next four years. Stay strong!

great article
great article, thanks

A Voice of Reason in the Wilderness!!
Thank the Lord above that SOMEONE finally is telling it like it is and grasping at straws to paint a "false and cheery" picture.

The picture is grim, folks. Is that all Obama's fault? No, it's true he is inheriting some of the problems but he's not BLAMELESS for them either. Hmmm...wasn't he a Senator??

OH...wait, that's right...he was campaigning for the Presidency most of his time in the Senate!! OKEY DOKEY SMOKEY!!

This is PRECISELY why I do not feel Obama is not qualified to be President. He has NO real experience and has NO idea what he faces!! He lives in some "dream world" and is heavily "indebted" to all those who "produced" him (he was a product).

Oh well, America...good going!! Electing a man who wouldn't be able to get Security Clearance if he applied due to his questionable associations (Ayers, Wright, etc.), has little "real" experience, can read a teleprompter but stumbles when ad libbing...

His cabinet will likely be "favors" granted...and NOT for us, the regular folks...Hunker down everyone!! It's gonna be a really rough roller coaster ride!!

An absolute dearth of new ideas
The inane statements on this thread are almost unbelievable. Not one new idea or comment has been forwarded along. Unverified and flat out incorrect perceptions are just being passed along from one blog to another, which will only mire the GOP in the muck that cost us the last election. It is time to deal with reality and we can do that by sticking to the facts and being objective in our positions. Enough of these foolish misstatements.

Correction to "Voice in the Wilderness"
I meant to say "NOT grasping at straws"...

EXCELLENT PIECE is the bottom line here!!

To William os WOW!
WOW! It's the idiots like you William who should be tied and dragged. I am not apologizing, you hold no briefs on me. I am just waiting for the day when Obama's chickens come home to roost and they will come! Sad thing is that we will all suffer for the gross stupidity of the masses and that includes William the idiot.

Because they hated the truth

God will send them a strong delusion, that they should believe the lie...

Sad for PA...
...that someone in my home state is so far off. Corrections:

1) The current crisis is FAR from unprecedented and was caused by the same government failure as the Great Depression.

2) The "credit crisis" did not make the economically unsound bailout package any more viable.

3) Unemployment figures (as published) do not differentiate between part-time and full time workers, though that data is available. The Reagan-bash is factually wrong.

4) Greenspan's culpability in money supply manipulation makes his assessment more than a little suspect.

5) It is absurd on its face to argue that a liberal newspaper is magically less so because it was FOUNDED by a GOP member or because it endorsed Lincoln more than a century ago. One wonders at the intellectual bankruptcy required to make such an absurd argument.

Yeah, WoW.
"You guys are the smartest people in the world..."

We didn't say that, but by comparison...

"Your the onky one's that saw the hype"

What research exists on media bias is essentially unanimous about the (obvious) tilt to the Left

"Too bad you cant admit , your man McCain had nothing to say"

He was a weak candidate.

"He ran negative add after negative add"

Fewer than BO.

"The media loves Obama"

True.

"he draws viewrs, translation MONEY..."

That's called an unsupported assertion.

"McCain/Palin made most sick"

That's called an ad hominem attack (about all you have)

"one more point , the right also had the Rupert Murdoch media empire behind McCain"

...which is already factored in to the research demonstrating the overwhelming liberal bias.

"The Media has a long history of being partial to one party..."

Stop there.

"If you recall the Idiot..."

How? This is the first post of yours I've seen.

Upset because non issues ... come on if they had any validity the media would still be holding on to this..."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I didn't think anyone could BE that disconnected from reality.

Actually ....
The Obama ... Democrat victory is the best thing to happen since sliced bread. No longer will we have to wait about waiting for the other shoe to drop in our slow slide to tyranny. The republicans were a disappointment as they were democrat light. Compassionate Conservatism.
It appears the only party who never disappoints as they are the gift that just keeps on giving is the democrat-socialist party. It will be great fun watching folks who are totally immoral run everything else as they did Fanny-Mae and Freddy-_Mac. What a great day for our 'friends' of a foreign persuasion; or so they think. I don't see the Chinese or Russians as having the time to establish 'sensitive' relationships with others to work toward world peace and prosperity.
Our idealistic youth can protest at their embassies.
As things devolve, the consequences of all past activity will have a crystal clarity. The choice might even be limited to freedom or death as it is in the rest of the 'Free World'.
Within a few months time all will be revealed.

Robert and William
The Big Media (henceforth known as BM) ARE liberal in their leanings. They did NOT vet Obama as well as they should have-otherwise they'd've got the jump on Hannity wrt Wright, Ayers, etc. They DID crawl all over Mrs Palin, examining everything from her family dynamics to her husband's long-ago DUI (they weren't even married at the time!) to her method of worship. Joe 'the Mouth' Biden got a pass when he asserted that the word J-O-B-S has three letters (among other innumerable gaffes), but Dan Quayle was excoriated for simply misspelling 'potato'. You'd have thought the very life of the Republic was at stake over that one.

This is unbiased how, again? Misperceived how?

Obamao's ideas are nothing new. Socialist leaders/communist dictators the world over already have his 'new' ideas in place. That's why their citizens break six legs and every law on the books to get out of there and come over here.

OTOH, I guess if full-blown socialism is crammed down our throats we won't need immigration reform after all...

The Howell column
The Howell column was one of the worst examples one can imagine of confusing objectivity and numerical matching.

As Howell notes in passing, the democratic primary went on longer than the republican one. That means there was more news happening on that front longer. So obviously a newspaper that takes covering news as its goal will have more Obama stories. Are conservatives calling for afffirmative action for conservatives where every news on the democratic side needs to be matched by a filler piece on the republicans whether there is news or not?

The op-ed imbalance is particularly silly. The Post has a reasonable balance of liberals and conservatives, but because McCain ran a dreadful campaign, many of the conservative columnist (many of them Townhall columnists) wrote critical pieces about McCain. Should conservative columnists be required to glorify failing conservative campaigns to meet numerical quotas?

The positive/negative news stories turns out to be equally silly. The Post runs too many horse race stories. But given that they do, and that Obama was winning for all but a week of the campaign, every horse race story winds up being counted as pro-Obama because he was winning, and anti-McCain because he was losing.

To acheive balance there the paper would actually have to lie.

Lon
To make the point clearer, you know something is off when publishing Charles Krauthammer contributes to the paper's liberal bias.

Robert
These are facts. You debase them because you don't like them.

You can call us inane, I call you foolish to the max.

Standshisground (MO)
Good analysis!

The Obama regime will be treated as Clinton was: a rose garden.

Remember the homeless crisis during the Reagan administration? When Clinton took over, the "crisis" suddenly disappeared from the news.

Eight years later, two weeks after G.W. Bush entered the White House, USA Today's headline read "Homelessness on the rise!"

During the reign of Obama, things will appear to be really wonderful and if they aren't, well, they'll just blame Bush.

Was That Really Necessary?
Larry,

Isn't there a way to make your valid points without the necessity of bringing up Jimmy Carter?

I know ... I know! It doesn't get any easier than to point out that Jimmy took us right down the primrose path -- and he surely did. In fact, some of the seeds of the current credit crisis can be laid at the policy feet of Carter.

But the problem with bringing up Carter now, is that we all know that story had a happy ending to it. Ronald Reagan came in, reversed economic and strategic direction, and the country prospered. The Soviet Union went bye-bye.

But right now it appears we are unfortunately not standing at the door of another "happy ending" phase in our history.

Instead, we have the foaming-at-the-mouth loons howling at the doorway, demanding the "heads" of those in the Bush Administration.

These idiots are now trying to urge The One to come in and criminalize everything. They want to "prosecute" any policy that they disagreed with, including the policy that has kept the nation safe from further terrorist attacks since 2001! They have no respect for the underlying basis of the American system -- you win an election and you get to govern. You may by-and-large succeed, or you may be a dismal failure, like Carter.

Their basic problem is that they want to continue to "run against Bush." And, they also want to continue to gin up vitriol and hatred for anything Republican. But they have no idea at all how to successfully govern. All they seem to want is revenge.

We are in for a long four years.

f1etch, foxfire22
The assertion that obama draws people to the media is assimine. I can't see that man's face without feeling that I am looking at sheer, undiluted hatred, beware of serpents with smooth tongues like the merman he seduces his audience with a lot of "feel good, feel guilty wording just like he used to look at his mothers eyes and smile and all would be forgiven". I actualy turn the channel at the sight of "che obama". I will not be an accomplice to the death of our ideals.

You would have to blind to not see!!!
All the radio stations, newspapers, TV stations were for Obama. They all came short of saying that he walked on water. I guess they wouldn't want to caught dead speaking against a black man that is not black he is white/black better known as he called himself a mutt.
They never repeated the fact from whom he bought his home from all the bad things that he was involved with seemed to fall off the pages and off the lips of everyone. It was like they were afraid of his color and that is a fact.
They never brought out the fact that he was born in Africa and the fact of the matter is they interviewed his grandmother in Africa and she was so proud that she was in the operating room where he was born and she was so proud of him becoming our future President.
All they could speak about was McCain and what he did to his first wife. I don't like what he did but he is not the first man to do that and he won't be the last. I know what I am speaking about because I have been there and I know what it is like to be treated badly with my first husband and he is a result of Vietnam War as well.
This man is so stupid that right after he spoke with our out going President he went into his plane and started speaking on cell phone about what happened in the meeting so everyone could hear what he was talking about until one of the plane had to tell him that wasn't a good idea.
What does he think he was doing? And we are going to trust this man to run this country?
I wish that all of us knew the truth about Obama but it has been hushed.
Did anybody see the interview with two girls that he went to high school with? They were shocked to see that he might be President because they didn't mind saying that he did drugs and delt in drugs in his own home. All of that was hushed somehow? What about from whom he bought his home from he is now in prison for fraud and he claimed he knew nothing. What does he live in a fog or what?

From the moment The Big O...
was elected and gave his "speech" (it was actually more of a sermon), he's been lowering the bar. During the campaign he never mentioned the masses would have to make sacrifices. The only ones sacrificing were going to be the uber wealthy. You know, those poor saps who had the misfortune to work hard and make decent money.

Oh yes, there will be mis-steps by The Big O, but they will downplayed as faults caused by those evil, mean, and nasty Republicans. I'm not typically one prone to hyperbole, but I'll tell you the truth, I'm stocking up on ammunition, bottled water, and #10 cans of dehydrated food.

BEING THERE
Thank you, Mr. Elder for enlightening us in fly-over country about what really happened in this last election. This reminded me of a movie that this election was based on . It was one of Peter Sellers last movies called "Being There"...it showed what the media can do [and did] with an empty suit. When you see it, you will laugh & then cry!

Few McCain Headlines
You can interpret these numbers a couple of ways... the one in which Larry views them is reasonable, but I think there's something more at work here. The two old guys in the election got less coverage than their younger counterparts. The younger candidates are lesser-known. The press had more to cover with them.

The only things that McCain did over the course of the election were:

1) pick Sarah Palin as VP
2) attack Obama
3) "suspend" his campaign to deal with the financial crisis

McCain dropped the ball on all three. With regard to Palin, he excited his base with someone whose political views energized teh conservative base. However, she's not ready for primetime on issues of national importance. Give her a year or two an she will be a force to be reckoned with.

McCain spent to much time attacking Obama in ways that most voters didn't care about. Some of it was pure fiction. if there was something to be covered in this Rezko business, then it would have been covered.

In an attempt to appear on top of things with the financial crisis, McCain suspended his campaign. While everyone watched to see what he could do to help the situation, he just fumbled it.

Besides these things, the campaign was just more interesting on the democratic side this year.

McCain Ran A Dreadful Campaign
and got crushed in process by Prez elect Obama because he ran a superior campaign. He won fair and square. end of story.

The idea that the so-called MSM can "brainwash" the american public into voting for one candidate over the other, thru percieved "biased" reporting, is patently absurd and and insult to the intelligence of u.s. voters.

Repubs/cons are always making excuses for their own self-generated bad press and inept political strategies and governance. Its always somebody elses fault when they fail. the buck always stops OVER THERE!!

btw: repubs/cons..the so called msm is in the business of MAKING MONEY thru selling their products and advertising..you tell me, thru this election cycle who you think MOVED MORE PRODUCT AND MADE MORE MONEY FOR THE SO-CALLED MSM.?

MCCAIN OR OBAMA?

There is but one America....
There is but one America and Obama is its President. If McCain had done everything right (like that would ever happen) they might have beat the 6 point gap.

I will always honor
our country and respect the office of the president. I am grateful to our troops and pray that they will get the backing they deserve.

As to Obama, I do not respect him and never will. Too much undercurrent from his past history and the nagging feeling that his win was created and not by God, either.

As to the liberal press, they can all go to purgatory. I will not support them by buying their newspapers and I have already gotten rid of the cable TV station where they had an Obama channel.

THE MSM DID BRAINWASH!
No doubt about it the MSM did brainwash the American people. We saw the Obamas pictures on Time, Newsweek, People, Stars, all newspapers. We heard lauditory opinions in the form of "news." There was a conscious decision to downplay, cut, explain, or legitimize any opposition or negative news. For many Americans, they get their news from snippets of tv, newspapers or programs like SNL or E News. They are misinformed, uninformed, or just plain ignorant! 8 million of them? I would say more than that! They voted in Obama on promises of change, but what change? They didn't know and still don't know.

Action will be required

I think it probably an understatement to refer to the blatant campaigning the media did for Barack Obama as "bias." We need to stop beating around the bush and call it what it is, "political activism." And now with the belief that they were a primary reason Obama won the presidency, they will be insufferable.

I, like so many others believe "it" is about to hit the fan as a result of the intensity of the push to implement liberal (socialist) policies. Should this become fact, or more appropriately, when it becomes fact, the media must not be allowed to hide in the shadows. The media, along with the politicians responsible for the coming "apocalypse" must be made to face its accusers.

Now would be a good time to begin to make a list and name, names as to who will be made to sit in the dock. Maybe, just maybe if these so-called journalists realize they will be held to account, they may even exercise a modicum of journalistic responsibility. Ethics is probably too much to hope for though.

Print media is a dying business
...and there is good reason. Their business model is flawed, readership declining...and the geniuses continue to give their product away online without a revenue stream to match that of their former in-print product model.

With their readership goes their influence.

Papers like the Washington Post, LA Times, and NY Times will join Der Stürmer, PRAVDA, Völkischer Beobachter on the scrapheap of history.

Asianweekaurtherwu
There is but one America, and only one President. I'm afraid I have to tell you it isn't Obama until Jan 20th, though he has in his classless way teried to make it appear he has been annointed already.
Since you live in Wa (State?) think on this:
1. Say goodbye to Bremerton NSY and the Polaris facility at Keyport...he wont need them
2. Wave farewell to McChord AFB...don't need that eikther
3. Don't worry about the polution from the oil facilities around Tacoma and Seattle..when he shuts the valve on Alaskan Oil they will be very green..with weeds
4. Work at Boeing?...well maybe you will find a job with Aerospatial. And the list goes on and on...have fun on your bicycles on the hills..no gas or gas at 10.00/gallon because he will rescind the Bush approval of offshore drilling..Keep smiling, maybe Elliot Bay will dry up so you can walk to Bainbridge Island..or ride your bike

Left Angle
Is lying all you have? You and others like william probably can't tie your own shoes.

The 'State Run Media'(abc, cbs, nbc, etc as well as USP(united socialist party) papers have already admitted to backing the Kenyan for the American Whitehouse.

If you can only lie,....SHUT TO HELL UP!

Trochilus
You missed the news flash: Obama will keep in place many or all of those unconstitutional policies put in place by the demon Bush. Know why? These policies will give him "flexibility" in fighting the War on Terror.

And the MSM is cheering him on.

I'M SHOCKED! SHOCKED I TELL YOU!
Yeah, right.

Anyone who DIDN'T know, or STILL does not believe, that the mainstream news -- print press or television news -- is biased far, far, FAR to the fascist left side is too STUPID to cast a responsible ballot in any election.

Talk about Fox News all you want. The left has CNN, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CBS, PBS, ....

Talk about the Wall Street Journal all you want. The left has the New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronical, Boston Globe, Time, Newsweek, ....

And now, of course, the one and only news medium that the American Nazi Party DOESN'T monolithically dominate -- talk radio -- is about to be outlawed.

Tell me, lefties, if you have such great ideas, why is it that you must make disagreement with those ideas a crime? What's the matter? You Ammerica-hating PUKES are so incapable of defending your kooky ideas, you must make sure contrary ideas are never heard?

Now come on Larry...
...the completely fair, unbiased AP conducted a completely fair and unbiased poll and...guess what?... they found that 60some% of the American population think Obama is doing a great job with the economy!

And...most of them will forgive him his lies during the campaign...because...well, you know, he is good-looking and he doesn't sweat...

...and ANYTHING bad that happens in the foreseeable future is President Bush' fault...

Fredd (NY)
"SACRIFICE" is Obama's newspeak for taxes.

The Clintonistas' newspeak called taxes "contributions".

Will the Socialist-Democrats ever get out of their "1984" mode? Bush = Emmanuel Goldstein.

"hard work" is newspeak for "longer hours with less pay" or possibly "mandatory volunteerism" or "community service".

You really can't defend Obama and the socialist-democrats.

William
Just keep right on laughing. At some point Obama's utter incompetence and attempts to change America from Capitalism to Marxism will penetrate your thick skull.

Let's see how fast he pulls us out of the present recession/depression. Unfortunately, the people who supported McCain may have the last laugh.

The fix is in
For the next 4 years, we will hear that Obama really didn't get a fair shake since Bush left everything in such a mess... the media will set him up for another term: COUNT ON IT.

new hound
Oh my God...you are absolutely correct.

Does anyone take responsibility for themselves anymore?

Obama bought the election through the MS
Leftangle: "...btw: repubs/cons..the so called msm is in the business of MAKING MONEY thru selling their products and advertising..you tell me, thru this election cycle who you think MOVED MORE PRODUCT AND MADE MORE MONEY FOR THE SO-CALLED MSM.?"

---
Thanks for making my point for me - all of the newspapers and networks that basically patently endorsed Obama by failing to DO THEIR JOBS and investigate and report on who this man is and what he has done did so while getting hundreds of thousands of dollars from Obama's campaign for running its advertising.

I'm a journalist (local) and I will do everything in my power to help take away the power of these so-called journalists who not only swayed the election, they participated in it. They sunk Hillary Clinton's chance and they did the same to McCain because of their quest to get Obama in. Congrats - they did it, but at what price to our country?

re: William
Actually, Obama is responsible for a large part of the current financial problems. The people he managed and targeted at banks to force them to make bad loans. Basically, by filing law suits claiming racial discrimination in lending practices which whether true or not dropped the score used to allow banks to open new branches and get favorable lending terms from the Federal Reserve bank. Basically, he taught and preached black mailing banks and other financial institutions into to making loans to people who couldn't make the payments. Ultimately causing the present collapse in the credit industry. So while he didn't have the veto pen he was the engineer running the train that caused this wreck.

re: Traci
Sorry but you're not paying close attention. The fact is that the New York Times has been posting ever increasing losses and has lost nearly 80% of it's subscriber base in the past decade. That accelerated during this election cycle. The Washington Post has lost nearly as much of it's subscriber base and has been posting losses for the past decade as well including last year which was the biggest loss yet. MSNBC posted staggering losses last year. Interestingly, Fox News posted a profit as did the Washington Times. It would seem that if, indeed, these news organizations were in business to make money they wouldn't be so far in the tank for a communist.

Beowolfe/ld55 please explain
this mysterious process by which the so-called MSM "brainwashed" the american public into voting Prez-elect Obama into the POTUS over Sen. McCain. Exactly how is it done?

William
Go see Will & some your other friends.

Then have a HOMO orgy!

I consider it a Coup d'etat by Soros. The so-called upper eschelon, the one's who set the standards at the stations hired the staff.

Let's just call it the Ted Tuner mentality of god wannabee, but never will syndrome.

This was too well orchestrated. I thought so two years ago when the whole charade began.

Oh, it was perfectly clear to me...
...William. The problem is that none of the responses you have provided change the FACTS that:

Your opinion and those of the voices in your head with which you have spoken (no need to supply names - again, the point you're making is irrelevant to the facts) do not alter the fact that your earlier comments were factually wrong. Further, your subsequent missive isn't factually worng only because it is factually bereft (look it up).

Obama Got Elected - The Markets Crash!
Just the anticipation of the Stepford Democrat with his insane Redistribution of Wealth siege on America has caused the markets to crash. What more can the sock-puppet's handlers do to us?

The arsons of the economic melt down, Frank, Dodd, Pelosi, Reid and Obama are now in charge of the crime scene. Nice.

As Larry offers, we are in for a long 4 years.

Answers
"Did Obama cause this mess ?"

No, but none of his proposals can fix it.

"who had veto power for six years ?"

Bush but his failure to exercise it was not the cause of the problem.

"Is Obama going into the presidency with a clean slate and Budget surplus ?"

No. That hasn't happened in several decades. Certainly, you were not confusing a recession that was inevitable by 1998 and, by traditional measures, began before Bush took office, qualifies as a "clean slate" do you? The surplus, resulting from a recovery and pro-growth policies that were both in place by 1991 was unsustainable in a recessionary period (and never predicted by Bush's predecessor).

Hope those facts help.

This was not a bad thing to do
quote:
"Some readers thought The Post went over Palin with a fine-tooth comb and neglected Biden."

That is a good thing to do in finding out about the person who is seeking public office.
We should know everything about their public life that's relevant to their ideas and direction they want to lead the country.

The PROBLEM... (and is completely evil deceit) is Sarah was the only one of the 4 given the scrutiny by the gossip mongers we call the media.

Then they distorted the information they did go to comb over by an agenda to FIND FAULT with the woman.

We still have not been given the information that is basic to know about Obama and his NO EXPERIENCE.

Sarah stands head and shoulders above Obama in experience, and knowing who she is now that she recieved all the attention the press gave to try and destroy the woman.

And Sarah has shown great strength and character in facing the creeps she knew hated her guts.

The MSM has identified themselves and not Sarah who are the ones to never never never believe in again.

They are liars and frauds and aided a complete fraudulent election that is the most dishonest election in the history of America.
We has now a complete fraud headed for the Oval Office.

William, William, William
"Please read a few banking regulatory measures signed by the BUSH administration, lowerring the Liqidity vs Debt that banks were required to carry ?"

This is pure fiction. Deregulation had nothing whatsoever to do with the crisis and, if you were correct in assuming that it did, the repeal of Glass-Steagall regulations related to debt/liquidity were signed by Clinton, not Bush.

"do you know the consequences of this ?"

Yes, the repeal of Glass-Steagall eliminated an artificial distinction between commercial and investment banking that exists nowhere else on the planet and had nothing to do with the crisis.

"When you find out what they are come back and say some semi intelligent"

You should follow your own advice.

"and this is only a factor in this mess
CDS , account for a nice portion , Wall street Hedge funds another , and I could enumerate many other Federal Financial deregulation's that have now brought about a very close similitude to a socialist economic system , where the government hold interest in major industries"

Every single one of those assertions is factually wrong and cannot bera even the most cursory economic scrutiny. But, hey, thanks for playing...

The Left Will Impoverish America
Responder offers, "I have read with amusment the statemwent that hedge funds were at the heart of the financial crisis. This is another lefty con. job"

Absolutely!

The Left enjoy the ignorant assumption that hedge funds work in unison, like a cartel. It is stupid thinking. People that compete rarely, if ever, do things together.

However, there was a conspiracy at play. It was the Congress of the USA conspiring with Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae to force the credit industries to extend credit to the unworthy that created an over-produced housing inventory (America's wealth index) at inflated prices.

Frank, Dodd, Pelosi, Reid and Obama should be in hand-cuffs for their incompetence. Instead, we have them still in play. And, the markets are responding accordingly.

William
Tell me why I should have to pay for someone else's health care? Why should I have to pay tuition for someone else's kids? Why shold I bail out someone who doesn't pay there mortgage? Does all this line up with one of the founding principals of our country - limited government? Or are liberals smarter that Adams, Jefferson and Franklin?

Also, what's up with open balloting for unions? Straight out of the USSR.

We have not elected Obama
By an honest election.
America has been taken over by lies and falsehoods now empowered in government and the press.

There is no truth coming from this election process, it has been a complete sham.

Dishonesty has been enthroned, deceit has now been honored by fools.
This is what this election has been about, truth v. lies, and America choose to believe lies.

The immorality of the times will bring about correction from natural law that cannot be abolished.

America has chosen a path of destruction in believing lies and accepting this fraud Obama to lead them.
he will not lead me anywhere, as I will never accept his person in seeing him as a complete fraud

Challeges faced by Bush
Hey, you have challanged facrd by FDR and Reagan, what about Bush. When he took office:
Economy in a recession (yes it was)
N Korea with nukes
al-Qaida blowing us up every year or so
Saddam bribing UN officials, funding terrorists.
Libya secret Nuclear program
Pakistans head nuclear scientist selling nuclear information to whatever nut would pay him.
China

Then comes 9/11.

Clinton and Carter were probably the presidents who faced the least problems (and caused the most to future presidents (see economic time bombs Fannie and Freddie).

Every president faces a ton of problems. Obama will be the first "not-responsible" president.

MSM Invented Obama - Stepford Democrat
Left Angle asks, "this mysterious process by which the so-called MSM "brainwashed" the american public into voting Prez-elect Obama into the POTUS over Sen. McCain."

A front page, above the fold, of the New York times article proclaiming that McCain had an affair was never rescinded. Even if it was, the damage was done.

Every MSM outlet has proclaimed Palin as a clothes horse, shopping expensive clothes on the GOP's dime -- citing un-named sources. Every MSM outlet has proclaimed Palin speaks ignorantly of Africa -- citing un-named sources. Now, we are learning, these un-named sources were not only not vetted nor truthfull, but even hoaxes. Of course, too late, now.

MSM has never vetted Obama's history, friends, deeds or school work. MSM did not want to report any bad on Obama. Now, we are learning that each are just as scary as the Right warned. Again, too late, now.

The saddest thing
There are indeed great black world class thinkers in our society, and yet they picked a salesman who will be a detriment not only to our country, but to the black vision.

I don't even think they can find the gene that represents color in the population. I may be wrong, but we won't be a true color blind society until true greatness is recognize despite color.

Dr. Sowell, and many other "black" (to me this is derogatory to greatness) thinkers, have been held back by small minds regardless of color.

Mary Hogan is dead-on
As long as black people vilify those who choose to express their conservative viewpoints, they will do a grave dis-service to themselves and their race, and the rest of us too.

It's ironic that this society is expected to disregard race, yet a president-elect was chosen primarily because he was "black". No attention was paid to his choices in associates, his voting record, or his amazing lack of real accomplishments. Everyone of us will suffer for it, and only the conservatives have a good grasp of just how much. Hang on, y'all!

Hey Fredd..
"The market lost 2 trillion dollars in the last few months with a republican president... "

...Thanks to the idiotic social-engineering policies of the Liberal Democrats (and ACORN) which were forced onto the lending institutions. No, it wasn't "lack of regulation", it was the lack of allowing capitalism to work as it should. Why Barney Frank and Chris Dodd aren't in jail right now is beyond me.

The Left Views Wealth As State Property
DavidMac offers, ""SACRIFICE" is Obama's newspeak for taxes."

Absolutely.

To the Left, and especially the Stepford Democrat (Obama, the sock-puppet), all wealth belongs to the State. How else can one justify Redistribution-of-Wealth, unless it belongs to the State, in the first place? So, if you get to keep any of your earned wealth, it is called a subsidy. Nice, huh?

The Left constantly says that America subsidizes the oil industry. Obama said this over and over and over, without one objection from the MSM! Absolutely absurd! The oil industry gets not one dime from America. They are not subsidized in any way. The "subsidy", that the Stepford Democrat claims, is, simply, that the oil industry is taxed a little bit less when they perform certain deeds according to a Congressional demand.

Even so, the oil companies deliver more of their earned wealth to Uncle Sam (in the $billions, every year) than they get to keep. Trust me, it is not the other way around as Obama would like you to believe.

So, according to the Left's definition of subsidy, all churches are subsidized by the State, because they are not taxed at all - they get to keep the State's money. Hmmm sounds like a good argument to get rid of churches, huh?

Certainly, America has reasons to be afraid -- the markets have already begun to melt in anticipation of the Stepford Democrat's reign of terror.

Bias ain't dead
The Associated Press reported the murder of Cynthia Lynch in a KKK initiation. She is a white woman who was killed by KKK members in Louisiana. The AP article didn't just report the murder, it set the story in the context of the shameful history of the KKK. It then went on to comment that the part of Louisiana where the murder happened voted for McCain. Other than wanting to associate Republicans with racism, how is that relevant?

Bush - A Victim Of Democrat Greed
Fredd offers, "The market lost 2 trillion dollars in the last few months with a republican president... "

Yes, a President that had to make a deal with insane Democrats to fund a military campaign to keep America safe. Democrats, instead of putting America first, decided votes were more important. The Democrats forced Bush into not tightening the constraints on Freddie and Fannie in exchange for funding. Nice.

So, Fannie and Freddie, under the skillfull hands of Frank, Dodd, Pelosi, Reid and Obama managed to force the credit industry into extending loans throughout the land to un-deserving borrowers, thus, inflating housing inventories and pricing to the breaking point. We are now broke. It worked. Good job!

They burnt down our house and should be in jail. Instead, they are in charge of the crime scene. We are in for a long 4 years.

An interesting ride
Well, every day history is being made, right? Some of it we can control and some of it we can't. It's called life. We deserve leaders who will have the fortitude to make the tough, unpopular decisions and put the good of the people above self-serving (or campaign-financing illuminati) interests. Obama gets a shot, but history will judge him for how he takes it.

You're still wrong, William
I've got something you have not - a grasp of economics.

You are proceding from a false assumption. The market is perfectly capable of mitigating that danger via the pricing mechanism - so long as the market is not manipulated. In fact, since the instruments that failed were in every case completely available for several years without difficulty, this point is proven by actual real world experience. It wasn't until a massive influx of liquidity by the Fed in less than the last five years massively altered the market signals and caused these risks to be underpriced that a problem arose.

It was the distortion of market signals (compounded by further distortions created by Freddie and Fannie) not investment alternatives that were widely available long before any problem surfaced. But then, why argue with your nonsensical answers?

If you think for one second that CDS had ANY part in this debacle, then you still don't have an idea of what is going on. CDs, in fact, are extremely secure instruments unrelated to swaps or mortgages or ANY instrument that failed in any way.

Lending institutions are perfectly capable of pricing risks (as they have done for CENTURIES) except when government-manipulation (in this case, by the Fed - just as it did in the 1920s) fundamentally alters the signals in the marketplace which creates the malinvestments by lenders, banks, insurers (including AIG which, objectively, did NOT know they would never get paid, etc.). You are simply blaming the symptoms for the underlying problem.

That deregulation had no part in it is a demonstrable fact else, again, the problems would have surfaced no later than the mid-1990s, which obviously is not the case.

You might want to see a plastic surgeon for that eye problem...

"I cant help but to laugh"

Go ahead. You seem to have no problem doing that. It is, however, a poor substitute for reason.

Larry Elder, topic is already played out
Larry Elder writes on a theme that already has been covered ad nauseam.

I would also say that the former administration dug a big crater that whoever the GOP candidate was would find it very hard to climb out of. Fox News and their similars never kept Bush in check. So, instead of keeping the Bush administration honest, they fought tooth and nail for Bush anti-consertive policies! Fox News, Limbaughs, Coulters and their ilk were all accomplices that dug the largest hole for McCain and Palin.

GOP needs to get to work on getting their act together. Throw out the lazy, inept, parasites, radical evangelicals, racists... otherwise growing the party will be impossible.

"We cannot be a majority governing party when we essentially cannot compete in the Northeast, we are losing our ability to compete in Great Lakes states, we cannot compete on the West Coast, we are increasingly in danger of competing in the mid-Atlantic states, and the Democrats are now winning some of the Western states," Pawlenty said. "That is not a formula for being a majority governing party in this nation."

Larry
"Hey, come on, after the evil/incompetent/dictatorial Bush, anything is better, right?" "Look, what do you expect? Things are as bad as they've ever been, so give Obama a break!"

LMAO I love seeing the whining and gnashing of teeth. Thank you for making my day. Oh, when will opinion media and the talkeratsee own up to being biased? Oh wait they do this every day.

MSM COVERAGE
BO has been in PARTNERSHIPS with Ayers, Raila Odinga (2006), Rezko, the Marxist Chicago "Democratic" Socialists (see the New Party), Rev Wright, and Farrakhan among many, many others. He approved checks for Ayers' (see the anti-American "Peace School") and Acorn's "educational" projects, in addition to rubber stamping a $75,000 grant to Rashid Khalidi, a Yasser Arafat protege in the PLO, while Chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and as a board member of the Woods Foundation.

He supported Black Liberation Theology at his church with thousands of dollars, and employed influential Nation of Islam adherents on his Illinois Senate staff.

Most of the electorate didn't even know about the above, due to the MSM covering for him, thereby skewing perceptions of BO.

And now a mea culpa should be accepted from media types after the election results are in?

Democrats always call for "unity" when they win and spew their vitriol immediately after losing.

Reagan had the gift of dismembering his opponents with stunning accuracy, but still seemingly keeping it polite. We need to find another like him.

Great column--
Now if the Republican conservatives, I stress real conservatives, can truly find a solid no BS individual who is 100% behind the constitution, will enforce the laws that are already on the books, deport all illegal aliens, jail and fine their enablers, cut off foreign aid, send the third world whiners packing, smart up our schools, quit bailing out the losers and thieves, get us out of the UN, and you can add some more. Can this be done? probably sooner than we think, because by 2012 or sooner I believe that most people will want this to happen. Check the pulse of your neighbor's thoughts is a good start.

Not the right wing bias canard again
"Oh, when will opinion media and the talkeratsee own up to being biased? Oh wait they do this every day."

The position you have taken is inherently dishonest. That Hannity, Limbaugh, the columnists here, etc. have a conservative bias is entirely irrelevant. It is not problematic for an individual to provide opinion while being entirely open about the nature of one's overall views. This is materially different from the news organizations at the major networks and major dailies that wear a cloak of "objectivity" and print opinion as news.

That study after study after study and poll after poll after poll recognize a consistent, pervasive and undisguised liberal bias even when outlets decried by the Left as being biased in the other direction are included is no accident. It's nothing more than a recognition of reality.

For Al
You're right, and yet the problem of liberal media bias just won't go away. Although a recent Gallup poll indicates nearly half of all Americans feel the news media is too liberal (47%, compared to 13% who think it's too conservative and 36% who think it's "about right"), and that 56% of Americans have lost their faith in the credibility of the mass media, the fourth estate continues its charade of measured objectivity while advocating the political bent of its majority membership. The Sage may be beating a horse, but said horse is very much alive. (Here's the poll: http://www.gallup.com/poll/1663/Media-Use-Evaluation.aspx)

By the way, you've raised a valid point regarding the complicity of the Bush administration, certain segments of the GOP, and select conservative pundits in the McCain-Palin ticket's failure. The GOP, while sticking to conservative talking points in public, has moved away from true principles of conservatism and become mired in the politics of pandering to special interests for political gain.

That may work for progressives, but is anathema to true conservatism.

Chicago Tribune
For those of you who don't know, the Chicago Tribune was sold and taken private by Sam Zell. The Trib once had a reliably thoughtful editorial page; it has now become a propaganda machine for Obama. It's apparent that this was done for business reasons since the organization has struggled financially ever since the buy out by Zell.

The editorial page, in endorsing him tried to portray Obama as a "reformer". As a native Chicagoan I can tell you that no one rises that quickly in the Democratic Party in Chicago by reforming anything. Colonel McCormick, the original founder of the Tribune must be turning over in his grave.

After reading this paper daily for almost 30 years I recently cancelled my subscription. I hope others do as well to send them a message.

I also no longer watch newscasts on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN or MSNBC.

HalD
Only need to say this once as it is irrefutable.

Talk radio and opinion writers advertise their labors as, you guessed it, opinion.

ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, NYT, Reuters, AP LAT, WPost, etc, etc, etc, advertise their opinion as news.

And the reason you guys hate Fox News is that there is ONE outlet not under your control and that is unthinkable.

The delusions and hypocrisy of the left knows no bounds, but you try to spin it anyway.

Left Bias? who let Bush mess up so bad?
It seems relatively no one checked the performance of the Bush Administration. It threw the nation and the GOP under the train. If the the media was so biased, how come Bush was able to do what he did with little friction.

For William (and F1etch, too)
(Let me give you a respite on this one, F1etch. You've been working hard.)

William, once again you seem to be operating from false premises. To wit:

"In a perfect world pricing/market mechanisms work [sic]"

Actually, pricing and market mechanisms work in an imperfect world, too. That's the beauty of capitalism. It's a systemic process by which an incomprehensible amount of information is transmitted and factored for the benefit of all actors within a society--regardless of the individual actors' imperfections (read "humanity"). I recommend Adam Smith's "Wealth of Nations," various essays by F.A. Hayek, and Thomas Sowell's "Basic Economics" for further information regarding the efficacy of free markets in generating positive outcomes for societies.

Of course, the key word in all this is "free." One problem with governments is their penchant for fixing things that aren't broken. For our current economic situation, see the Community Reinvestment Act and Sarbanes-Oxley for evidence of our federal government's role as the proverbial fly in the economic ointment.

Swaps Are Not The Problem!
William offers, "One small note CDS ( Credit default swaps ) not CD's ( Cant tell tell the difference can you ?)"

You are so bogged down in minutiae!

Swaps are ancient stuff that have been around in almost every commodity market on earth. Looking at such nonsense is like rearanging deck chairs on the Titanic.

The real "ice berg" is simply that Frannie and Freddie, instead of being run by capitalists, are being run by politicians. Instead of profits, they work for votes. Not good.

So, the politicians made a capitalized operation, backed by the largest and most powerful government on earth, perform for votes by floating loans to too many undeserving borrowers that created too many homes. When the borrowers began to fail, housing inventories soared, crashing everyone's equity.

Just like a rising tide floats all boats, a receding tide beaches just as many.

This is simple stuff. No need to get caught up in minutiae.

History, Unlike MSM, Will Honor Bush
Al offers, "If the the media was so biased, how come Bush was able to do what he did with little friction."

Good point! But, not as you think.

Bush has actually done an exceptional job, but enjoys a lousy reputation, thanks to the MSM.

It's going to be a long four years.
It will be a long four years for the mainstream media. Boycott them at every turn. Stop talking and start taking action before it’s to late.

Fredd
You are delusional.

9/11. Clinton let bin Laden go three times.

Katrina. Poorly managed by local Democratic government and Bush gets the blame. Tell me, why is Mississippi rebuilt so well and so fast and New Orleans isn't? Democrat local government in Louisiana.

bin Laden. See response to 9/11.

Banking disaster. Set in place with Community Reinvestment Act under Carter and strengthened by Clinton/Cisneros and watched over by Franks and Dodd. Bush gets blamed, even though the Bush administration tried to increase oversight on Freddie Mac and Fannnie May. Look it up.

Iraq. Seventeen Security Council Resolutions promising force if not followed. Oil For Food. Cease Fire violations. International Law violations by Iraq. All over looked or pooh-poohed by idiots.

Did Bush and Rumsfeld make mistakes in the Iraqi War? Absolutely. Did they learn from it? Absolutely. But even this is denied by the left.

Grow up and get some new talking points from Herr Doktor Dean......

Whine, whine, whine
Fox news is MSM...have they self-audited for bias lately?

How about the Washington Times?

So yeah, boycott the MSM and keep your heads stuck in the wacko right-wing galaxy of worldnet.com. That way you can keep stroking each others' hearts and pretending that you are in touch with reality.

For Fredd
Wow. Just a couple of points in rebuttal:

1) Unless there's a poll somewhere that I haven't read about, there's no data to support your assertion that "Rush and Sean" are responsible for Americans' distrust of the mass media. Numerous studies and surveys over the last 25 years have shown that a) most members of the media are self-described liberals, b) most members of the media vote Democrat, c) most members of the media agree with progressive policies. Perhaps the overwhelming evidence of a leftward slant in the mass media explains Americans' distrust...

2) The mass media is doing a fine job of frittering away their market share on their own, without help from either party...

3) It seems to me "nitpicking any detail" is an example of arguing with "the actual facts of a story..."

4) There are those who claim to practice conservatism without actually applying its tenets who have done our nation a disservice, just as there are those who call themselves progressives who have done our nation an equal disservice by failing to practice what they preach. However, hyperbolic and inflammatory comments like "Conservatives have done more to kill America than Stalin and Hitler ever could've dreamed" have done even greater damage to the ongoing political dialogue which is the engine of our great republic. Such statements also show a lack of historical knowledge and trivialize the horrors of two of mankind's most oppressive regimes in history.

Keep digging deeper, William
"Cant tell tell the difference can you ?"

They are properly referred to as "CDS instruments" to avoid precisely that confusion. They had NOTHING to do with the cause of the crisis and have, in fact, NEVER been regulated more than they are now. They've been around for decades and were never a problem until the market was interfered with.

"In a perfect world pricing/market mechanisms work..."

This is the most common canard endlessly repeated by non-economists. The pricing mechanisms work IN THE REAL WORLD as imperfect as it is. The interaction of economic laws are what make it work. The idea that it's all just theoretical models that don;t work in practice is utter nonsense.

"Note we have been warned about this exact senario since 2002"

No, we haven't. We were misinformed about a bubble that, at the time, DID NOT EXIST. Until the flood of liquidity became substantial (and the Fed had not cut the discount rate below 2% until mid-2003 so it had to be some time after that), the problem did not exist.

"Take pencil draw a graph on the influx on investment by the federal government and Private and foreign government investment
Tell me what you see , you idiot"

Why not look at baseball statistics since they have nothing to do with the divergence of liquidity supply and demand either. You cannot make an economic assessment based upon static data. The problem, again, was the PRICING of risk that resulted from the influx of liquidity.

"Liquidity was a smoke and mirror sales pitch that you ate without knowing what you were chewing on ... I am getting a kick out of this "

Demonstrating glaring economic ignorance? I'm glad for you. If that is your joy, I won't look for you to enroll if I should ever teach the course again.

David
Fox News DID self audit.

Obama positive stories 40%
McCain positive stories 40%
Neutral stories 20%

Pretty much the same with negative stories. right down the middle. That "Fair and Balanced" thing, ya know.

Go look it up.

Thanks MinorityAdvocate and Mac Moore. Had I read farther, you'd have saved me some time!

"[I]f you dont like the Lib media Why watch it"

I don't. That is irrelevant to the nature of the media.

"And since your an economic genius..."

I never made that claim. I have been working as an economist for the last quarter century so I do have some knowledge in the area though.

"Then since you represent the Majority of this nation , you conservatives can bring down all the media that you dont agree with"

What a stupid straw man! In fact, the popularity of conservative radio and sites such as this one (and the market failure of liberal alternatives) is a direct result of the so called "objective" media already filling the liberal niche. It is the market in action. No one argued that the market was dominated solely by those informed of basic economic principles and the network media outlets would dry up ... though the circulation of the major dailies and ratings for the network news programs have been dropping like a brick so that may well be happening to a certain extent.

It's simple Econ 101. How surprising that you would prove incapable of characterizing it properly.

Fox is the only
media outlet that produced fair and balanced reporting during the election. Every other outlet was so pro-Obama and his leftist illuminati ideals that it was sickening. It was more like 60-20-20 for those outlets.

News and Opinions
We rely on the media to present every bit of Truth that is available to them. But the media lies in several ways. They keep info from us that is not politically expedient. They release info before they thoroughly look into it because it is politically expedient. They lie outright to further their political cause. It will be a cold day in hell before I believe anything I hear from the media. Truth is everything. They have no respect for Truth and that is why we now have Obama as president. He himself being a juggler of truth.

SURPRISE!!!!!!!
The surprise is that someone in the media decide to confess.

Fredd
No President in American history has had to deal with as many hardships piled on this country as Bush...bar none
His mistakes were Medicare D and not vetoing pork projects...i'll grant that.

Katrina....blame falls on LA Gov. & Mayor Nagin
9/11 .....falls on Bill(sex under the desk)Clinton
Clinton was offered Bin Laden but was to busy with Monica.

Bush has also had to battle antiAmericans, treasonous SOBs like Murtha,Pelosi,Reid etc. as well as little p**sants like you.
That was queit a load....if you ask me!

Shills are silent on this

http://www.carolinajournal.com/exclusives/dems-target-priva te-retirement-accounts.html

The majority of witness testimony during recent hearings before the House Committee on Education and Labor showed that congressional Democrats intend to address income and wealth inequality through redistribution.

On July 31, 2008, Robert Greenstein, executive director of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, testified before the subcommittee on workforce protections that "from the standpoint of equal treatment of people with different incomes, there is a fundamental flaw" in tax code incentives because they are "provided in the form of deductions, exemptions, and exclusions rather than in the form of refundable tax credits."

Even people who don't pay taxes should get money from the government, paid for by higher-income Americans, he said.

Repubs/Cons: Please Explain?
this mysterious process by which the so-called MSM "brainwashed" the american public into voting Prez-elect Obama into the POTUS over Sen. McCain. Exactly how is it done?

Fredd Confused By Cause - Effect
Fredd offers why Americans do not trust the MSM, "And WHY do Americans feel this way? it's because Rush and Sean tell them that they should"

Now, that's just silly nonsense.

There are over 300 million Americans. Rush and Sean, together reach maybe 5 million, possibly even 10 million.

Of course, being a Public School prodigy, full of Leftist propaganda, you probably do not understand that America created Rush and Sean, not the other way around. They only repeat what most of us already know.

IN THE NEWS
barry's resigning from the Senate. Guess he won't be 'present' any more. Actually, he's been too busy buying and marketing the 'product' of his imagination to have, in reality been 'present' anywhere ever.

Dereliction Of Duty
It is the media's job to write the news, not make it up. As Sgt. Friday always said, "The facts,Ma'am,just the facts". The media has failed ,miserably.

To us who are politically tuned in to what is happening,we look for the facts. If we don't find them in one place,we look for another. We read the papers or internet to get our news.

There are scores of people, probably a majority who just turn on the TV and watch what is fed them from the network news shows or perhaps cable news shows.

They are not interested enough in the political scene to look for the truth. These are the people who were really brainwashed by the Obama News Networks.

Every broadcast about the Republican candidates was mediocre to downright nasty. Every broadcast about the Democrat pair was glowing, positive and never covered any of the negatives in Obama's past.

This was ,as some have said the year journalism died. They have been sick for years, but they took their medicine and remained viable,if not believable until this year.

They do not even pretend to be fair anymore. They are the Democrat Ad Agency and it is a horrible thing to see.

William - Knee Deep In Minutiae
William as to swaps, "Yehh I see how this so well regulated - lmao"

I am beginning think LMAO is a nickname employers gave you in response to how you inspired them. Good tag line for you.

Swaps are not a cause of any crisis. Get off the minutiae.

Fannie and Freddie, under the care and feeding of politicians, instead of capitalists, working for votes, instead of profits, crashed everything. It worked. They got the votes. We got the meltdown.

Fredd Says MSM Is Victim Of Republicans
Fredd offers, " I blame the Republican party who's made it part of their platform for 40 years or more to attack the media as a way to cover up their faults..."

Now, how on earth does that work? That makes absolutely no sense at all.

Did you go to Public School? It's showing.

Fredd
I can see that your willful ignorance is not debatable.

The points I made were valid and have not been refuted anywhere.

bin Laden was offered to the Clinton administration on three seperate occaissions but they refused as they thought they didn't have any evidence, thereby enabling the attacks on 9/11. They are responsible, but you were right, Bush was in charge.

The stupidity of the coverage on Katrina cannot be refuted. It hit Mississippi and Alabama, too. How come that wasn't covered so deeply? Because they couldn't try to blame the federal government.

As for the banking crisis, reforms were tried (you can look it up) and called for (again, look it up) and blocked by Democrats and abetted with lawsuits by ACORN (look it up).

But it so much easier to just blame the other guy for your sides' stupidity and complicity in these problems.

Every time the democrat party comes up against the law of unintended consequences, you squeal like the pigs you are and blame the other guy.

This is wholly predictable to the adults in the room.

Shilled is Right
Surprising that the paper even did a research on the subject. Mea culpa? Not really , and too late at that. Any reasonable person could see where the majority of the media was headed when these campaigns began.

Back to reality - 1
Those eager to call others "idiots" would be well advised to look in a mirror when doing so if they can't grasp the incredibly basic point that INVESTMENT EXECUTIVES are not the same thing as ECONOMISTS. Still, the point being made ("The unbundling of credit risk probably should be a good thing, assuming that people picking up the elements of credit risk understand what they're doing and the risks they're incurring.") is perfectly sound SO LONG AS THE MARKET IS PERMITTED TO FUNCTION and is not artificially manipulated by Fed policy.

No one is arguing that individual lenders will not make mistakes. It happens all the time. But for an entire financial industry to engage in malinvestment then some underlying cause had to have occurred in the marketplace (as I have been trying to explain to you). You can't even seem to grasp that the financial downturn was the result of the collapse of this irrational market (since you haven't been paying attention, the Fed reversed course and pulled the excess liquidity out at a fairly rapid pace), not the other way around.

"Corrigan and others are concerned about the reliability of models used to measure potential credit risk and set transaction prices" and with good reason since such models are only as good as the market-signal data that is entered into them is sound. Because those signals were not, decisions were made that in an ordinary market would not have been and the stage was set for the crisis.

Back to reality - 2
BTW, Business Week is not known for its stellar economic reporting. Consider some real work by real economists:

That's just the tip of the iceberg (from one easily accessed site). Or you can just pick up "The Austrian Theory of the Trade Cycle" to understand how the results were inevitable or ypu can pick up Rothbard's "America's Great Depression" to see how the same thing caused THAT.

It is clear that the weaknesses of your own data selection are working against you.

Why shouldn't I tell people that I've taught the course? Or that I've been an economist in the financial services sector for the rest of my career? Do you have a problem with simple honesty?

Left Angle...
It isn't so much brainwashing as it is free advertising. And given that news is supposed to be non-biased, the constant drumbeat of positive Obama articles and negative McCain many people may just accept all of what they read at face value.

For those who keep bringing up Fox News as an example of conservative news outlets, you really need to separate out the "news" portions of media from the opinion parts. No one should expect to get their news from opinion pieces just as they shouldn't expect opinions to show up in news articles. Fox news shows are relatively unbiased and their opinion shows are very biased. But NBC/ABC/CBS/et al/ are biased in their news shows.

That is the difference.

Mac: Actually Fred is Correct
Repubs/cons take absolutely no resposibility for their own self generated bad press, faulty
political strategies, poorly run campaigns and finally inept performance in governance when they do have power.

Its ALWAYS somebody elses fault and the so-called msm is the right wings main whippin boy.

It's total bs..the media is reporting things exactly as they happen..face it McCain ran a totally wretched, largely negative, unorganized, strategically flawed, mess of a campaign in which he made one blunder after another. McCain-Palin spent 95% of their time bashing Obama rather than telling the people solutions to the problems they face and EVERYTIME they did so
THEIR negatives went up not obamas..

Prez Elect Obama ran a absolutely brilliantly strategic campaign in which he used the media,
money, wits, saavy, and guile to outmanuever and and outflank McCain-Palins negative tactics and issue out a good ole fashion arse whuppin that repubs/cons still havent gotten over..Actually it was embarrassing watching the whole thing..

so dude blame the media if you want and it makes you feel better...truth be told. it is absolutely absurd that you repubs/cons could actually believe the so-called msm could "brainwash" the american people into
voting obama into the potus over mccain thru percieved bias reporting..that is a insult to the american voters intelligence, indicates you think they are downright stupid and, that bssounds like something off a science fiction twilight zone episode anyway..lmao

i keep asking, exactly how is that done anyway?

rotflmao

O, Lost in New Jersey
William,

That you are incapable of grasping the difference between a SYMPTOM of the crisis and the CAUSE is not my problem. The market for liquidity is the key determinant of risk pricing. If liquidity is artificially removed from the market, lending dries up (as has happened in the aftermath). If liquidity is artificially pumped into the marketplace (by several orders of magnitude in this case) risks on such things as mortgages, swaps and other instruments are priced artificially low.

The fact is that CDS instruments have been around for DECADES and were transacted without difficulty (because they were priced properly). The irrational market created by the Fed is what vastly increased the demand for these instruments because the pricing of this risk under existing market conditions was so favorable. But since the pricing was based on distorted signals, once the distortions were removed the market collapsed.

You seem to revel in posting irrelevancies (when you don't instead post factual inaccuracies) as if they actually improve your case, make a derisive comment (which only reflects on your own ignorance and then laughing ("lmfao"). I'm glad you find it pleasurable. It certainly isn't making you look any better (or reflect badly on me in any way).

THE ELECTION IS OVER, BUT THE ADULATION
OF THE MSM IS NOT.

I refuse to watch local news in Chicago anymore. Each half hour is filled with Obama does this, Obama does that --- mundane inanities not even remotely being newsworthy.

Being only slightly facetious: Obama combs hair, Michelle wears new dress, news at 6:00.

Wild Guess
It could be that Obama got more media attention because they liked him better. McCain didn't give the media much to talk about except his accusations that Obama is a radical, communist Muslim. Old attacks for old times. McCain was in favor of nothing but the status quo. Even in good times voters want change and Obama captured that idea. As for McCain's policies, they were not much different than the last administration and who wants to talk about that? From my point of view, the more media attention McCain received the less popular he would have become.

The media liked Pres. George W. better when he ran against Al Gore and John Kerry. But I don't think that even Karl Rove could have helped McCain. He succeeded in wooing the Republican base by appointing Sarah Palin but didn't do much to convince the majority of voters that his policies would be an improvement over the past 8 years.

Left Angle - Still Drinking The Kool Aid
Left Angle offers, "Prez Elect Obama ran a absolutely brilliantly strategic campaign in which he used the media,"

Nonsense.

The Stepford Democrat, Obama, ran a purely negative campaign, sighting Bush and McCain constantly in a bad light, as illustrated by MSM. He had no depth. If he wasn't going negative on Bush/McCain, he was falsly crying victimization of some phantom racist. His speeches could be written by anyone, as they were pure glib and hate.

Since the MSM agreed, they never challenged.

The MSM tee'd up Bush and McCain, and all the Stepford Democrat had to do was not miss. When the MSM has your back, you can hardly lose.

How is it genius that no MSM questioned his credentials, when he had none? How is it genius that no MSM questioned his school grades, when he had none? How is it genius that no MSM questioned his morales of attending a racist church, when he had none?

He is our President, I will grant you that. It will be a long 4 years. The markets have already reacted.

HOW DID OBAMA WIN THE ELECTION????
FIRST OF ALL HE HAD TED TURNER ON HIS SIDE AND HE CONTROLLED THE MEDIA.SECOND WHEN YOU ADD UP ALL THE MONEY HE HAD LIKE A MEMBER OF HIS TEAM SAID HE WASNT TO BRIGHT BUT HE REALLY WANTED TO BE PRESIDENT.SO THEY COULD HAVE GOOTTEN HARVEY THE RABBIT IN OFFICE.THEN> YOU HAD THE FACT THAT EVEN THE BLACKS THAT DID NOT LIKE HIM STILL VOTED FOR HIM.AND OUTHER VOTERS WERE SO YOUNG AND STUPID THEY WOULD HAVE VOTED FOR HARVEY THE RABBIT.IT WAS ALL ABOUT BUSH IS IS BAD OBAMA IS GOOD.BUT NOW HE IS SO HIGH ON THAT PEDISTAL IF HE SHIFTS HIS FOOT WRONG THE PEOPLE WILL EAT HIM ALIVE.AND HE WAS THE ONE THAT PUT HIMSELF IN THAT POSITION!!!!!

Bobby Knight said it best...
...though I don't recall the stituation at the time. I'll paraphrase and make it topical.

The next four years will be like a rape. We'll just have to lay back and hope it's all over soon.

Media
This makes me more angry than anything else in this election. As a reporter for a small local newspaper, I work my butt off to do my job - which is providing the facts and information so our readers can make an informed decision.

It's not my job to spin a story, omit facts, fail to investigate every angle or inflate aspects of a story to reflect what my personal feelings are. My feelings are irrelevant when it comes to writing a story. Maybe those fools at the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, AP, MSNBC, ABC, CNN, CBS, etc. should go back to the roots of what they're supposed to be doing.

While Fox certainly has biased commentators (I think O'Reilly is a hoot, and I can't stand Hannity), they provided the most balanced mainstream reporting in this election, during the primaries and after, by a long shot.

Obama should be ashamed that he bought these "journalists" to help him win the election. With millions of dollars in advertising revenues paid to the very networks and papers that bowed down to him, that's exactly what he did. I, for one, plan to do everything in my power to take down this type of system (by hitting the media where it counts - in their wallets).

I'm sure since Obama won the election, they feel like they've gotten away with what they did. Let's not let that happen.

Al
"It seems relatively no one checked the performance of the Bush Administration. It threw the nation and the GOP under the train. If the the media was so biased, how come Bush was able to do what he did with little friction."

Bush had little friction? How positively idiotic. He had friction no matter what he did. He continued to allow warrantless wiretapping on FOREIGNERS and the MSM made it seem as though the average American was being listened to. I want to hear of ONE American who was arrested through a wiretap, who was just minding his own business, chatting on the phone. Hyperbole like that is the trash that was spewed like a mantra from the neo-commies daily.

The Media wanted Obama elect so they simply followed the old saying; " never overestimate the STUPIDITY of the American Electorate", works every time, especially if you throw 500 mil in for good luck.
The policies to which Obama subscribes, the folly of socialism, has already been abandoned in Europe after decades of torture by European Governments, but most American voters wouldn't know that cause most American voters dont know much thanks to the American Teachers Union and our failed SKOOLS.
When the intelligence level of the masses becomes apparent in their selection of Messiah
and allll his promises the die will be cast for the return of conservatism or just common sense at all.
The Electoral college, which the brillaint founding fathers designed, will not only survive, but will probably be beefed up to include other criteria other than population; like maybe IQ!

Many of the posters on these threads try to argue about things they know nothing of. Obama charmed many people who had never been interested in anything political. Still, they try to argue a point.

One poster last week asked "what is this thing called card-check"? This has been in the news for several days. You won't hear it on the biased news media that much, but it is news.

If you don't know what happened in the past,I doubt you will understand what just happened. Do some research before you try to argue with one who knows their history. Things are not always as they appear.

"This Too Shall Pass"
Obama is an amoral demagogue voted into office by many blacks who based their decision solely on race. A good portion of them probably couldn't mention his policies or stance on numerous issues. Others opted for him because his promise of "Change". It has been my exerience that change isn't always good. Unfortunately, despite voices such as yours, people failed to do their homework to see if any of the numerous allegations about Obama were true. I hope that little by little his past and his unsavory connections will be revealed and the public will see his true colors.
This could have been a MLK moment.

Obama is nothing more than a "SYMBOL" of
collective white guilt, collective black racism, misplaced faith of the proletariat, the dumbing-down of education, the punishment of the "evil" Bush years, the aiding and abetting of the MSM, the take over of the Marxists of higher education, those who want a hand out and other I'm sure.

Since Obama only spoke in vague generalities, anyone could make BO into whatever they wanted...so he is the "SYMBOL" of all...

Media was biased against Reagan also
Reagan still won overwhelmingly. Why?

It is not just the news that's slanted
Also, how many of the "dramas" show their liberal biases? "Cold Case" was getting to be one of the worst with its stories showing "Christian youth" committing murder and an Amish guy killing an Amish girl in Philly, to name two from last year.

Then a couple of nights ago Law & Order: SVU had a group of HS girls all get pregnant, one of them a girl who swore with her boyfriend that they'd wait for each other until marriage (she got pregant by a stranger, not rape) so, of course, the BF kills her but tries to make it look like a suicide.

Granted, these are not about Obama or the election, but there is a constant drumbeat by the lefties to tear down anything we hold dear.

I don't remember where I read it but I recall seeing something that talked about a percent deficit that the Republican candidate is given just due to the bias in the media which really translates into free advertisement for the Dem. I wish I could remember where I read it and what the percent was but it wasn't just 1-2%.

Colosteve
Evan Thomas of Newsweek said a few years ago that it was at least 15%,because of bias. I heard him say it ,I believe around 2004 on the Imus'show. You might be able to google it.

Oh brother
Fredd, get a grip. The fault for New Orleans was local and state government. I do NOT want the federal government in charge of my local disaster response. The federal government is not meant to take over for local and state unless there are serious reasons and the feds are called in. Obviously the mayor of NO and the governor of LA had very little regard for the people of the city.

The fact people chose to stay put figuring it was the government's job to help them out says it all. I notice things changed when Jindal was governor.

SOmeone, maybe you Fredd, stated that Obama basically said we would ALL have to sacrifice. Well, exactly how are the poor who have never paid a dime (and in fact have cost us more than anything else) going to sacrifice? Is he going to cut aid to them? Is he going to force them to do the community service. If he does those two things, I might have to think he has a spine, and I might have to give him some respect. Until he addresses the moochers, I have no use for anything else he says.

Now... how to get people to watch this?

It will be a long...

It will be a long troubling and for many agonizing, four years to be sure. Why is it, that politicians' of all flavors seem to have trouble doing what is right? They seem to always choose the wrong, even when right is staring them in the face.

“We the People” must put a stop to this madness:

1. STOP…Congress from serving more than two terms. Presidents are only allowed two terms why should Congress be any different.
2. STOP…Congress from voting for their own pay & benefits.
3. STOP…Paying for Congress’ high-priced insurance and other benefits.
4. STOP…Paying Congress’ full salary after serving just one term, or at retirement.
5. STOP…Congress from receiving life-time benefits; make them pay into Social Security like everyone else.
6. STOP…Congress from ignoring the will of the majority, over that of the special interests.
7. STOP…Giving out aid to illegal aliens.
8. STOP…Anyone from entering this country illegally.
9. STOP…Allowing babies born to illegal aliens in the USA automatic US Citizenship.
10. STOP…The abuses of the welfare system.
11. STOP…Fraud and identity theft. Cross check Social Security Numbers with finger-prints and use it for voter registration.
12. STOP…The “Bailing-Out” of banks and mortgage companies that gave loans to people who could not afford them. Or to any company that has made bad business decisions.
13. STOP…Companies from giving CEOs and other executives outrageous salaries, bonuses and golden parachutes while the company goes “belly-up”, taking its workers pensions with it.
14. STOP…All unnecessary spending, especially “ear-marks”.
15. STOP…Permitting anyone from having a driver’s license with their face covered.

I could come up with some more, but you get the idea. These are common sense items that a free people should have demand long ago.

He said 15 points, not 15%. I was mistaken, but it's bad enough. The only fair news outlet on television is FOX.

FOX news is ,as they say fair and balanced, with some of their news shows leaning conservative. We have no RIGHT WING channels and they have many LEFT WING channels.

Colosteve
If you haven't seen it already, search or google....Evan Thomas/Jon Meacham/ Tom Brokow/ Charlie Rose Show..... That's really weird.

Should it surprise us to hear about the
media bias towards Obama and his leftist illuminati platform? It didn't take a political science expert to see that the liberal MSM was aiding Obama's cause at the expense of McCain and Palin.

Rowly
I watched that video about Brokaw, et al, talking clearly about not knowing anything about The Chosen One. Funny how they dropped their guard and admitted it, eh!?

Eliminate the Middle Class in Four Years
Perhaps, the far left liberal democrats want to eliminate the middle class so that they can elevate themselves in their new kingdom in Washington D.C. as their new messiah leads them according to his socialist and narcisstic remarks to abuse the power of Executive Orders in my opinion that will silence people. I imagine that the new appointees will have to look up every morning and when they see the light, they'll begin their new chang, "Yes, we can. Yes, we can. Yes, we can," because the far left liberals don't believe in prayer, the Bible, or God, but they do believe in their new messiah and "the one" who will help them tax us to death; skyrocket electric bills, bankrupt coal mining states who build nuclear plants, nationalize healthcare so you can wait 5 hours for a check up and you'll never have to be lonely again - he'll implement the new National Civilian Security Force to monitor your every move as he robs from the rich to redistribute the "change" as "the one" sees fit.

they shilled for obama
larry loved your article you are fair truthful and honest. i saw the bias started when hillary was running for the nomination and i am no fan of hillarys. msnbc chris, david keith and others did nothing but trash her. i told my republican friends you see what they doing to hillary wait and see what the liberal news does to mccain. we saw this coming with the print media and the network media especially the cable networks msnbc and cnn. god help our country when the news media manipulates an election like they did. all americans should beware no matter which party you belong to. .

the media didnt do their jobs?
when repubs/cons say this about Prez elect Obama
what they are actually saying is:

"The MSM didnt dig up enough dirt on Sen. Obama to discredit him, destroy his candidacy and prevent him from becoming POTUS."

The odd thing about this is that they are saying isnt true..from william ayers to reverand wright to acorn rezko to socialism to alinsky. ALL of this stuff was reported and vetted and obama wasnt found to have commited any crimes or done anything unethical. sorry repubs/cons there was no there there. character assasination didnt work this time. the issues and bush cheneys inept governance over the last 8 years did you in.

Left Angle 9:34
The MSM didn't!

MSNBC might as well be renamed the BO show, they were the worst at slobbering over him.

Look at the View Obama was told he was "handsome" and McCain got accused of reinstating slavery.

Matthews had tingles for Obama, Olberman, Coric, and Gibson had clear unabashed contempt for Pailn. I have saw a comparison of the questions asked by Gibson and hands down BO got off easy!)

Obama got soft ball questions in practically every interview BUT O'reillys. And even O'reilly didn't hit him hard.

Anyone counting positive to negative spin could see Obama got positive coverage FAR mare than McCain did.

You have to admit had McCain had a terrorist-bomber friend or a radical racist white minister, he would have been crucified in the media.

To ignore the blatant pro Obama coverage in comparison to McCain - is intellectually dishonest.

Whew!
After reading the comments on this article, it's no wonder the Republicans lost big time.

"YES WE CAN!"
Did it surprise anyone that BO's campaign plagerized the mantra of avowed socialist Cesar Chavez of the United Farm Workers?: "Yes we can!" In Spanish: "Sí se puede!"

May I refer you to the radical left wing Daily Kos or Huffington Post so you may contrast relitively mild TH posters' comments with the truly disgusting ones on those websites?

Newspapers 1, Republicans 0
Not only did one newspaper shill for the Obama campaign, but in some places all of them did.

Consider Chicago, Illinois: The Tribune, the Sun-Times, Defender . . . the only local party that was unequivocal was one local radio host , and he was on the AM band at night. A Republican didn't have a chance.

Whoever gets the most media time wins.
