Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Lawyers call this a "declaration against interest."

Washington Post ombudsperson Deborah Howell wrote a column in her own newspaper comparing the paper's front-page coverage of Democratic nominee Barack Obama with that of Republican nominee John McCain.

Her findings? Examining stories from June 4, when Obama became the presumptive nominee, until Aug. 15, the Post ran 142 political stories about Obama, compared with 96 about McCain. As to front-page stories, Obama was 35 to McCain's 13.

What about photographs? The Post ran, during this time, 143 pics of Obama versus 100 of McCain.

The paper's assistant managing editor for politics explained the discrepancy this way: "We make our own decisions about what we consider newsworthy. We are not garment workers measuring our product every day to fulfill somebody's quota." In other words, Obama makes good copy, and this is, after all, a business. Fair enough. (But what's he got against garment workers?)

But why, then -- when the Post's Howell pointed out the discrepancy in photographs -- did the disparity disappear over the next two weeks? Howell writes that since she first pointed out the lopsided nature of the photo coverage: "Editors have run almost the same number of photos -- 21 of Obama and 22 of McCain -- since they realized the disparity. McCain is almost even with Obama in Page 1 photos -- 10 to 9."

Wait a sec. If the Post assumed that photographs of Obama drive sales, then what happened? The likely explanation is that the Post considers itself a "news" organization, and was embarrassed when one of its own columnists revealed its blatant partisanship.

As for Obama's popularity -- the basis for printing more stories about Obama -- take a look at the recent polls. A Reuters/Zogby poll, for example, gives McCain a 5-point lead among likely voters, with most of the major pollsters considering the race a dead heat. Does this not make McCain and Obama at least equally good copy?

But many of these same people who defend the Post's right to make a profit also demand the reimposition of the so-called Fairness Doctrine -- to force radio station programmers to "balance" popular conservative hosts with liberal ones. But "fairness" proponents show no concern when avowed Bush-haters, such as NBC/MSNBC's Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann, put on their "journalist" hats and "cover" primaries, debates and political conventions.

How bad is it?

Take the recent studies by the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism, a nonpartisan, non-ideological and nonpolitical research organization. PEJ finds that from June 9 through Aug. 17, Obama received significantly more coverage than McCain -- even during Obama's Hawaii vacation. During the not-particularly-memorable week of June 23 to June 29, Obama received more than twice the coverage of McCain -- 82 percent to 40 percent.

And it's not just Obama. Last year, Harvard and PEJ studied presidential campaign stories from January through May in print, TV, radio and Internet outlets. Surprise, surprise, it turns out Democrats got more stories (49 percent) than Republicans (31 percent). Also, the tone of the coverage was more positive for Democrats (35 percent) than for Republicans (26 percent).

"Not only did the Republicans receive less coverage overall," the Harvard study authors say, "the attention they did get tended to be more negative than that of Democrats. And in some specific media genres, the difference is particularly striking." For example, 59 percent of front-page stories about Democrats in 11 newspapers had a "clear, positive message vs. 11 percent that carried a negative tone."

Obama's coverage was 70 percent positive and 9 percent negative. Hillary Clinton's was 61 percent positive and 13 percent negative. Yet only 26 percent of the stories on Republican candidates were positive, and 40 percent were negative.

On TV, evening network newscasts gave Democrats 49 percent of their campaign coverage and Republicans 28 percent. As for tone, 39.5 percent of the Democratic coverage was positive and 17.1 percent negative, while 18.6 percent of the Republican coverage was positive versus 37.2 percent negative.

This brings us to one of McCain's follies: McCain-Feingold. The act prohibits so-called soft money donations to national party committees, places restrictions on political ads that specifically name federal candidates 60 days prior to general elections, and prohibits any ads paid for by corporations or nonprofit "issue organizations," such as Right to Life.

Opponents of McCain-Feingold know something that apparently John McCain did not. The Democratic message -- hostility toward "the rich," the supposed "right" to health care, the general disdain toward the Bush administration -- gets an airing in our mainstream media … for free.

There's a line between journalism and advocacy. "Journalists" crossed it a long time ago.

They Aren't Even Aware
They're biased and they're not even aware of it. It's like fish who can't see the water they swim in.

If Larry Elder had pointed out their discrepancies, the Post wouldn't done anything about it. But since it was pointed out by one of their own, I guess the accusation carried more weight.

Larry

Could it be that for the american people Barack Obama is simply a more interesting story than John McCain? McCain has been around for DECADES. His story is a known quantity. But Barack is young and fresh and - hip! - and ... there's that weird mystique!... you feel he's speaking directly TO YOU!.... you feel he's a living, breathing, smart, funny, personable guy that's touched with greatness. He RIFFS with his audiences. He's spontaneous and has an infectious smile. Now, I'm not saying that this is why he should be commander and chief. but OF COURSE it explains why the american media is going to focus on THAT story! His story is filet mignon to the national electorate and McCain's story, though he's an honorable man, is leftover Hamburger Helper at this point (been there, done that!).

On a purely gut and visceral level, Obama DESERVES all the extra print. He's NOW. He's happening. He's CHANGE. He's a dynamic presence, IF ONLY the republicans had an equally fresh and kinetic candidate, HE (or she!) would get the lion's share of attention too.

Now stop your grumbling and pouting, Mr. Elders!

will -- you MIGHT have had a point --
-- if this were a NEW PHENOMENON, something that only Obama could make a claim to.

But it's not. This kind of media bias has been going on for DECADES.

Well, Hitler and LEnin acquired power on "change" and given we are 2% away from chimps, it is not surprising that your comments reflect our ancestory; some us of are beyond making decisions on our "viscera" and sex appeal. Further, it turns out Obama is a good example of corrupt politicians coming out of chicago; not much change. His good friends, ayers and his wife are noted for praising Charles Manson for knocking off rich people; well, that is a change; never thought we would find a politician embracing those who express such; thought that went out with end of communism; but apparantly not

People are waking up to the bias.
I find at a personal level people are becoming conscious of the bias.

My step-father, is very liberal, and likes to watch the news. He watched NBC and MSNBC a lot, and was shocked at how I watch fox news.

but he is an open guy, and takes a gander.

He today admitted to me that he found Karl Rove a really unbiased and informative commentator, and that MSNBC is so biased. it dawned on him today.

Now he is a mad Obama lover, but a reasonable person.

he is mad to the left, but is getting uncomfortable. And he wants more information on Obama, and not just media love letters.

len -- HUH??
Why are you attributing will's words to me?

Methinks it's a little early to be invoking Godwin's Law.

Let's get real here
OK.

Say for one moment that some Midwest white guy who had just barely won a senate seat by winning a single County in a single party state, tried to run for Prez. He would be laughed off the stage.

So why not for Obama? Could it be primarily because his is not your average white guy?
Some are going to say this is just racist, but think about it. If Obama is white he is a laughing stock, but being black he is the candidate? Why?

It cannot really be the message, because there is none. He never really took any real positions on anything other than ‘change’. The delivery is good but the message is completely empty. A program for everyone and no one will have to pay the bill. What a deal.

The real media bias is that this guy is ready for anything above his current pay scale. I think the average US voter has kind of figured this out. Mc Cain will win this thing fairly easily; with an electoral map pretty much the same as the last two elections.

The Echo Chamber strikes again.
The media all live in an echo chamber which can only reverberate with THEIR viewpoints until they can't imagine anyone rational disagreeing with them. Remember that twit from the Washington Post who commented after Reagan's first win: "I can't think of ANYONE who voted for him!" That's how out of touch they were and ARE.

Admitting Zero Integrity Liberal Papers
No surprise here that the liberal MSM decides to do a story making themselves the story and then discovering what "we the people" (Subscribers -if there are any remaining) have known for many years. They are blatantly biased and arrogantly ignorant. It is one part of the formula driving internet news importance and talk radio success. With the internet, we get the news now - not printed with political bias a day late and with the internet we can respond and blog with other thinkers in this world. Talk radio and the internet provide a reasonable access to conservative views (yes, these might even be just as biased in some ways but they reflect the mindset and align with the political perspectives of multitudes who refuse to march lock-step into the perverse mentality of the MSM and the ultra-liberal Demo"rats."

While the zombies from the MSM keep repeating the talking points and cliches from one another, they are not journalists nor are they interesting or mentally stimulating. They are so disgusting that hundreds of millions (like me) have canceled subscriptions and refuse to watch the MSM news (NBC/CBS/ABC/CNN/MSNBC to name a few). These Democ"rat" press team members are still promoting their god Barack and have fallen to worship at the shrine of their own making and then proclaim it to be exhilarating and life changing. More bias and bull. They do not deserve air time and I have eliminated them from my view by simply unsubscribing, turning the channel, and enjoying the great news being found in places like FOX NEWS and online here at Townhall.com

Thank you Larry Elder for telling the story and reminding us the MSM stinks!

Bill Clinton gave a magnificent speech

last night. When he's ON and truly in sync with his audience, he's incredible. He rose to the occassion and galvanized the house, forcefully making the case why Obama must be elected president.

I wonder if Elder (or Hewitt or Medved) will try to SPIN and malign this speech tomorrow into something it's not? These radio talk-show hosts are developing a reputation for shameless shilling and pandering. Impossible to listen to a full half-hour segment anymore.

Major Media Bias
The current media fascination/adoration of The One is only a symptom of the MSM's consistant, overwhelming charge to the socialist/communist ideal. One would hope their revenue decline would force them into a more balanced position before they fail.

Will - so explain Hillary's coverage
Will wrote:
"Could it be that for the american people Barack Obama is simply a more interesting story than John McCain? McCain has been around for DECADES. His story is a known quantity. But Barack is young and fresh..."

Fine. Obama is the rising star, the underdog, the unknown. Let's give you the benefit of the doubt on that one, even if you are describing the kind of coverage you should see People magazine rather than the Washington Post. But how do you explain Hillary Clinton's coverage advantage while she was campaigning in early 2007? Certainly you're not going to tell us Hillary is "new" or "happening" or "hip" are you?

Simply put, by the time Obama clinched the nomination his story was no longer "new" nor unknown. Your explanation needs work.

Is there even a question about ...
bias anymore? I mean, among reasonable people that is. Even regular stories found anywhere in a paper use words that indicate a persons bias. Even when libs try to be unbiased (and I'm not saying that they ever really do), it's impossible for them.

A LIB says "No Quotas??" LIAR
The fact that they responded with "We have no QOUTAS" proves they are liars. Liberals LOVE QUOTAS - except, apparently when it concerns, American-white-conservative-(mostly)men! It's fun to watch liberals...they are so deluded they don't even know it! Pure entertainment.

Will can't explain anything yet - so - don't bother asking. He loves Clinton and look at his language - clearly a young "I know it all'er" too dumb yet to know he doesn't know! Let him grow bigger - then he'll come around.

When a Tree Falls In the Forest...
Should we care about anything the Washington Post writes? In November 2007, the Washington Business Journal reported the Washington Post's circulation was only 635,000. When you knock off the people who vote their party no matter what, the media, the politicians and the people who work for them, and the researchers counting stories and photos, that's not a heck of a lot of people left who are potentially influenced by the Washington Post.

hvogel
What Mr. Elder has enphasized in this article is the fact that, in spite of all the bias media coverage and all the fawning over Obama there is an increasing concern about what exactly he stands for; for all the media attention no one knows exactly the quality of this man's character. He is a riddle wrapped in mystery wrapped in a lie. He is the magician who is sliding by on a smoke and mirrow acts. Hilary said it best, we still don't have a clue as to what he is all about, all issues go by unexplained...all we know is a speech he gave in 2002. He is hungry and we...all of us the American People are the bait.

Will
I will admitt, Bill and Hillary gave wonderful speeches, and the whole time I watched them, I kept shouting at the TV "But you're lying!"

For every praise they were saying about Obama unglued me. We all know they can't stand Obama and we also know the Obama's can't stand them.

Did you notice when Bill first emerged on the stage and the audience went wild, the cameras panned on Michelle and her face looked like she just swallowed a poisonous spider? You could tell her handlers told her to smile. There was a distinct difference in her smile towards the Clintons, because when Obama just had to come out and steal Bill's thunder, that's when a real smile came from Michelle.

I know the Clintons were coerced to do this, Obama promised he'd pay for Hillary's campaign losses and also, they were doing this for their party to win.

It just found it so false to see the Clintons and Biden praise Obama to the hilt when not a few weeks and months ago, they were proverbially peeing in his coffee.

Also The Obama Ego At Work
I just wanted to further emphasize that his ego is really getting in the way of his judgement.

Picking Biden still makes Obama the star. Who turns their backs on 18 million voters? It should've been Hillary on that ticket.

Also, after Bill received so much love and adoration yesterday, isn't it funny that Obama had to come out and steal the show?

The press has reached its
lowest level in terms of its purpose which is to present both sides of this presidential election to the American people and to present it fairly. Obama isn't talking on a personal level to us, the American people. He is presenting an image. He is so good at it that the media are like the sucker fish attached to a shark.

I can hardly wait to read the "oohs and ahs" when he emerges from below the stage in a storm of confetti and onto a Greek setting to deliver his speech. He is Moses returned. Wait, he is David. No, he is...oh my god, Jesus himself.

Pardon me while I go and throw up my breakfast.

Foundering Freedom
There will be many rationalizations about why Democrats receive more coverage than Republicans. I have been re-reading a biography of Reagan. The same bias existed then as now.

The Liberal Democrat Party is very good a slogans that tug at the heart. They have been more effective than conservatives have been.

Liberals believe in free speech. That is why they want to silence their opposition under the guise of the "Fairness Doctrine".

Tibby

Media Bias
Media bias is nothing new. It's been around for years. The difference today is that it is more widespread and ingrained thanks to years of liberal indoctrination and brain washing at our universities and colleges. The most encouraging thing is that the liberal media is reaping what it sows as more and more of us see it for what it is, a tool of those who would destroy our country from within because our belief system doesn't agree with their own distorted views. The liberal TV and print media are floundering on their own leftist biases. The Phila. Inquirer is a classic case. Several years ago they turned left and as a result over time lost more then a third of their subscribers (me being one). I had hope when they announced a new ownership to try to save it. Just when I was thinking about resubscribing, the first words out of the new owner's mouth were that he would do nothing to change the existing editorial policy. He sold out to the liberals even before taking over. No new subscription thank you. As a sop to us conservative neanderthals, the then manager of the editorial page editor actually bragged in a column that he had hired a real conservative to write periodic columns, but to soothe the outraged liberals he added that he himself only expected to believe 2% of what he wrote. A real open-minded guy. He's now the ex-editorial manager, but still periodically manages to spew his left wing bias as a guest columnist. Now the Inquirer apparently has guest conservative columists like Rick Santorum, Charles K.,and a few others. Too late however, the red ink keeps getting higher and the paper is heading for bankruptcy.

The guy, whoever he is (God help us), directing the dem. convention hasn't missed a beat.

Have you noticed abortion is never mentioned?

Have you noticed the word "liberal" is never used? BY ANYONE!!!

Have you noticed America's radical left, which the Democratic Party is loaded with, has been kept under wraps? Moveon.org, Media Matters and other left-wing supporters? I guess they don't exist. You will not hear a single word about them or from them. PERIOD!

The guy, whoever he is (God help us), directing this cover-up should win a oscar. He deserves it!

MSM IS LIB TO THE CORE
The MSM doesn't even pretend to be objective any more and maybe that is due to Conservative Talk Radio. Their desire to invoke the "Fairness Doctrine" on radio is a blatant move to silence alternative voices. If it is invoked it needs to be invoked across the board to include Television and print news. Chris Mathews would have to give equal time to a consevative point of view on his show much the same way Sean Hannity does but like Teddy K told Mary JO "I wouldn't hold my breath". The libs will hide behind the First Ammendment while placing speech codes on the rest of us. Big Brother is alive and well here in the US.

Will swerves into the truth
"But Barack is young and fresh and - hip! - and ... there's that weird mystique!... you feel he's speaking directly TO YOU!.... you feel he's a living, breathing, smart, funny, personable guy that's touched with greatness. He RIFFS with his audiences. He's spontaneous and has an infectious smile."

Congratulations, Will--you've nailed it (albeit unwittingly).

Obama represents the triumph of style over substance, of the heart over the mind. What is most telling is your incessant use of the word "feel" when describing the swooning reaction to Obama.

It is frightening how this street agitator without a significant legislative accomplishment in his whopping 143 days in the senate before embarking on his presidential run has managed to sweep up so many (yourself included, apparently) on a wave of emotional bluster.

Forgive me if I don't get the vapors every time this clown opens his yap.

Judith Writes:
I can hardly wait to read the "oohs and ahs" when he emerges from below the stage in a storm of confetti and onto a Greek setting to deliver his speech. He is Moses returned. Wait, he is David. No, he is...oh my god, Jesus himself.

Yes Judith and for the Grand Finnaly he will walk on water while giving sight to the blind. This Kenyan anchor baby is a wolf in sheep's clothing and is being financed by that Hungarian George Soros.

Geez, Will - Michelle will get jealous..
Get a room, will ya? The adults in the room are trying to find the next leader of the free world - and the adolescents are still slobbering over the interns...

News media
News Media, unfortunately especially for those living in liberal thinking states are only fed the propaganda of those media outlets. So if you repeat something enough it becomes the truth, even if it isn't, it turns a blind eye to news that may bring to light to a certain candidate. It doesn't deal with truth, until the truth is beneficial to their ideology, again this is why the media in those parts of the nation are losing viewers and paper sales are declining. People do not trust liberal news media, and intelligent individuals both liberal and conservative have to search out the truth for themselves. There are liberals who could care less about the truth, but there are others who are led astray by these clearly bias reports, not to mention close associates who hold the same views. It is not a popular position to be in when you live in a liberal town and you have a conservative point of view, it remains so in Hollywood. The government should pass a law called "the truth in broadcasting" to hold these organizations accountable for obvious misleading information, and bias, one day these same papers may be responsible for a division so sharp within this nation, that the blood of innocent people will be upon their heads.

Shells

(Oh, gosh, what's with the "shells 1"? Change computers?)

You write:
"I will admitt, Bill and Hillary gave wonderful speeches, and the whole time I watched them, I kept shouting at the TV "But you're lying!"

Shells, the exact same thing can be said of McCain and Romney. During some debates they went further than they ever needed to go attacking each other. It reminded me of the first 5 weeks of this year. Hugh Hewitt has long supported the mormon. He was such a loud, vitriolic fan of Mitt's that EVERY DAY (until after Super Tuesday) he tore John McCain apart
in a more rabidly partisan way than any democrat has (on Hugh's radio show, which suddenly became a constant commerial for Romney).

In fact Rush did too, right? And the blonde chick? Laura? (And Ann?) They TRULY, truly hated McCain. Ugly things dripped from their pens and mouths every day at the beginning of the year. Now look at the stooges. All shilling for John McCain. THEY ARE ALL "LYING"!

You could easily use all their vitriolic words against McCain in an anti-McCain commercial, except, the truth is the american majority does not care in the slightest what people like Hugh Hewitt and Laura Ingraham say. They are cultural nobodys.

But those attacks go around to all sides of politics. Go back to January. See what Mitt and John said about each other. That's one of the reasons why Mitt is no longer seriouly considered by the McCain camp as a VP possiblity.

ombudspeople
are the media's cynical attept to "prove" to the public that they're, you know, fair and balanced. even bill o'reilly has an ombudsman. of course, if they were truly fair and balanced, they wouldn't "need" to hire an in-house "watchdog" in order to dupe the public, now would they?

Media Bias
Of course there is . And it has been around for years. And I think it is getting so much worse.

Mr. Elder wrote a good piece. One thing he did not touch on was one reason why it is getting worse.I think that in the last 20 years or so we have had a glut of mediocre college students , with little passion, and less ambition. They knew they had to do something...,I mean Mom and Dad were footing the bill for their higher education, and they could put off self sufficiency for at least another four years. They chose to major in journalism because it sounded like it would be "so fun".

So now they are "journalists", and part of the M.S.M..They have no passion for the job, no strong sense of ethics, and it seems no sharp intellect. Woe is us.

My apoligies to the journalists who understand the importance of the job, and who do have a srong sense of ethics, and the passion to do a good job.But there is a lot of riff raff.

Quick!
Progressives, start claiming the media has a *rightwing* bias the way you always do when stuff like this comes up!

To you conservatives -- no, really, despite plenty of evidence, progressives rail against supposed *rightwing* media bias, at least among themselves. Camp out at Salon.com (if you can bear the obscenity levels) and see for yourselves.

Main stream media
The Main Stream Media has been in the tank for the democrates for decades, and I think it is destroying them.

Newspapers are losing readers and money fast. Some say it's because of the internet and others say it's because of bias. How are the newspapers in other countries doing?

I remember in the 80s when influence could be used to push a lousy band onto all the radio stations to give it a false popularity, that's when I stopped listening to music on the radio.

I remember in the early 90s being involved in the crisis that later led to the invasion of Haiti. The MSM missed it entirely because a basketball player announced he had aids. Later, following the contract with America, the republicans had major wins in congress. Dan Rather was livid while reporting the election results, that was the last time I watched him on TV. Time had the "Gingrich who stole Christmas" cover and Newsweek had the "Scrooge" cover the same week, it was the last time I read either magazine with any interest.

I could go on and on with examples (maybe I have). For years the MSM has made it's bed. Let them lie in it.

All morning I have been hearing that

McCain has "decided". Then, this somes over the wire:

-----

McCain says he has yet to make a VP pick -
GOP candidate speaks highly of Ridge; announcement expected Friday

updated 27 minutes ago
WASHINGTON - John McCain says he hasn't decided on a running mate just yet.

The Republican presidential candidate told a Pittsburgh radio station he wouldn't even talk about which way he is leaning.

In the interview with KDKA NewsRadio on Thursday morning, McCain talked very highly about one of the people considered a strong possibility to be his choice, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge. He called Ridge a great American and a dear friend whom he has relied upon for years."

-----

The truth is, sources inside the McCain camp have indicated that if John had his own way, he'd choose either Ridge or Joe Lieberman, his 2 dear friends. However, some have said that either pick would be devasting to the GOP (coming mostly for social cons). Apparently McCain has struggled with this in ways not fully reported. And any speculation over who the pick is, is just that...speculation. But we'll know tomorrow, at, I think, 11:00 am EST.

A salesman's a salesman
I had an interesting thought last night. The reason I never liked the Clintons or the Al Gore, Edwards, Dean set is because they always came off like Amway, or vacuum cleaner door-to-door salesmen. You know, the kind you can see (or smell)coming a mile away. Obama, on the other hand, reminds me of an used Audi, or Porsche salesman; way more polished, much more slick. The objective is still the same: trying to sell me something I don't need! The stuff Oblabla is selling, however, is also much more expensive. Up here in yankeeland (no, I'm not talking about the baseball team) we have a saying: "If you have to ask about the price, then you need to think about whether or not you can afford it." I KNOW I CAN'T.

The Media
The positive thing about the media bias is that the GAP is on to them--and turning to other sources of information. We working Americans are not stupid--it may take a litle time to learn--but learn we do.

Informative article.

Good Article
The vast majority of media is left-wing. No doubt.

I have talked to two relatives over the past two days. Both of these people are intelligent but not well informed. Neither of them had heard of partial-birth abortion nor the BAIPA. Neither of them knew Barrack Obama's stand on these issues. Neither of them knew that one of the first things that the current president did in office was to sign a bill banning such a practice. Needless to say, I was somewhat shocked. Then I thought about it. The media does not focus on these types of issues because most Americans do not agree with liberals on these issues, nor on the homosexual "rights" issues. Therefore they tend to under-report and/or make these issues murky where their candidate's position is not clearly presented.

I am a Black American. Those two people were my mother and my brother. My mother ( a 50-something real estate broker and government worker) wanted me to discontinue my description of PBA to her, insisting that "no one would do such a thing" to a baby, and CERTAINLY Obama wouldn't support such a procedure. My brother (a car salesman) couldn't believe it either.

I venture to say that most people are being told -by the likes of CNN- what their #1 issue is, but are not being given the information that they need to make a sound decision as to who would be the best person to lead this nation. It is NOT Barack Obama. Of that I am certain.

Although I hold each of them (my mother and brother) partly responsible for not seeking out information about the candidates, I am mad as hell at a media that has decided that what THEY think is best for the nation is what they will drive home with the viewing public while ignoring substantive information that gives a clearer picture on the CHARACTER of these individuals. For me character STILL counts.

of course the are bias
chris matthews is more than bias he is wierd!the liberal news media wants obama.us normal ones want mccain.did biden remind you of the FONZ-LAST NIGHT?MIKE TEXAS

bias
I have no problem with the msm bias if they would admit it.Rush,Hannity,Beck and all other conservative personalities tell you they are conservative.

Obama=Puppet of DNC/MARXISTS
The only thing to know about Obama for the moment is this: He is an Empty Suit, With A Very Questionable Backgroud and When It does get Questioned, the MSM and their Propaganda Machine, make sure it is not reported on. Believe nothing you hear on the MSM News or other programs concerning politics.

Obama was Hand Picked By The DNC, their Backers who are every Radical Organization in America, and especially the Labor Unions and Radical Environmentalists, and for Communists the world over.

They know Obama does not possess the Knowledge, Intellect, nor experience in Domestic or International Affairs, beyond Marxist/Mob Chicago style politics. They also know Obama is a Narcissist who loves to see his reflection in the mirror and especially on TV.

So, the DNC, in selecting Obama knew that they had a Know-Nothing Narcissist, who would Read Anything They Put on A Teleprompter, with no regard for what he says as long as he is getting to perform in front of a camera.

They know that if were to become President, that he would support anything he Was Told To Support and would never read any proposals, as he could not understand them even if he read them to begin with.

The Perfect Puppet is Obama. And He Who Pulls The Strings Of the Puppet is Called The Puppet Master. The Puppet Masters of Obama are Liberal Democrat Congressmen and women who promote their perversion agenda, Marxists from Labor Unions, such as the National Association of Mis-Educators (NAE), Abortion Advocates, and every Socialist Nation in the United Nations.
With Obama as President, your freedoms and rights would be vastly curtailed almost immediately, as the Liberal Congress would waste no time in getting every Radical Piece of Legislation passed as soon as is possible, before Americans could even tell what was going on.

This is the most critical election in the History of Our Country.

T.C. writes,

"Obama's Middle Name: Never noted! BY ANYONE!"

-------

T.C. - His middle name has indeed been "noted", in fact, by everyone. We've been there, done that. It's not as big a deal to everyone else as it is apparently to you.

Also, to save you the trouble of posting another inane comment, yes, we've "noted" he's black also. Nobody cares.

What a shame
that the first viable, non-good ol' white boy, candidate is this corrupt, conceited, con man.

Of all the admirable, honest, and intelligent black men out there who would made great presidents, the dhimmicrats scraped this guy from the bottom of the barrel, and he has the stench of Soros, Alinsky and Wright, all over him.

The MSM's gargantuan effort to doll him up is causing a backlash, not only from inherent racists, but with rational, thinking people.

No bounce, noBama

Who Cares?
We all know the mainstream media is liberally biased, do we expect anything else from them? They've decided that the choices we'll have this year are McCain and Obama and like good little robots, the voters of both parties have elected the nominees.

When are Americans going to wake up and smell the deceit? We were once a free country, until we were all conned into voting liberal and big government politicians to public office.

Nonsense
There is no media bias. The esteemed news agencies of CNN, ABC, CBS, New York Times, et al, do nothing but report the news. The reason there are more positive stories about Democrats than Republicans is simply because Democrats do more positive things in the world. Republicans get more negative coverage because all Republicans are evil and wish ill for America.

Even when a policy put forward by the Democrats is less than successful, it is good news because we all know that the Democrats have our best interests at heart and they mean well. Sometimes Democrats may make a mistake but that is not news because it would make us all feel bad about the people who care the most about us.

Conversely, when Republican agenda of warmongering and profiteering happens to actually improve inconsequential things like the GDP or the situation in Iraq, the Republicans should be decried and questioned for their motives. This would be especially true when a Republican policy makes anyone feel bad. Feelings are far more important than facts.

Mr. Elder and others need to stop writing articles like this. In the name of protecting free speech, nobody should be allowed to question the integrity of the mainstream media. CNN tells us they are not biased so that should be good enough for us.

The public would be far better served if Mr. Elder and the rest of the pundits would question Fox News' so called claim of being "Fair and Balanced." How can Fox News think the public to be so gullible to take them at their word? (I know for a fact that Fox News has been making up positive news about Iraq since I did not see any similar stories on CNN or CBS.)

So, to sum things up. There is no liberal bias in the mainstream media. However, Fox News is guilty of having a right-wing bias because they allow Republicans to speak lies on camera.

jax 33...
Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck are political COMMENTATORS. What they give you is analysis, editorial, opinion. I have no problem with Matthew, Olberman on MSNBC; they too are political analysts.

I do have a problem, however with news EDITORIAL being presented as HARD NEWS.

To what extent a story is covered, and which stories are and are not covered, and HOW they cover a story tend to reveal a predominate liberal view in the MSM. Many Americans, aware of this reality, are begining to demand a change in this arena, hence the popularity of FOXNEWS and other more conservative outlets.

Obama==PUPPET OF DNC/MARXISTS

The Democrats get the most...
...positive coverage. The Republicans get some positive coverage. Freedom, liberty, and people who promote the concepts get almost no positive coverage at all.

Another Good Article, Sage!
I have long ago dropped all papers, but the Wall Street Journal. As for breaking news, I rely on Drudge. I selectively read The Economist via electronic subscription (although, their predictable, anti-Bush tyrades get a little tiresome). Other than that, I try to stay away from evening news commentators.

Larry Elder does an excellent job proving my wariness for the Main Stream Media.

Deornwilf The Humorist
Deornwulf offers, "Even when a policy put forward by the Democrats is less than successful, it is good news because we all know that the Democrats have our best interests at heart and they mean well. Sometimes Democrats may make a mistake but that is not news because it would make us all feel bad about the people who care the most about us."

Now, that is funny!

McCain Runs On Issues-Obama Runs On Race
will offers as to Obama, "Also, to save you the trouble of posting another inane comment, yes, we've "noted" he's black also. Nobody cares."

Actually, somebody does care -- mostly Democrats. Heck, today's news is all about Obama's skin color: "First Black American ....." Make note how many times Obama brings it up. At least 3 times in major speeches, that I have heard, he has offered that others will pick on him because of his skin color.

Obama seems intent on making this about race. Since McCain has never mentioned it, Obama keeps injecting race, hoping for some race traction.

Obama knows what brought him to the dance. He also knows that without it, he has no chance.

When
maybe tonight Obama will deliver a speech with some specific details describing his idealogy. Up until this point the puppet master(s) was counting on his eloquent delivery of rhetoric - fluff - concealing the real agenda in store for "we the people" - that would be what we call Socialism.
And his baggage - oh he left that in Chicago - but it could pop up again in Washington. Voter beware!!! Joe Biden - now there's a piece of work - Joe the plagiarist Biden.
Now the Messiah will take center stage - the seas will level off, the sky will open, a light will shine down and everyone will say OBAMA - OBAMA!! This should disgust the majority of level headed Americans. Obama will wear the American flag on his lapel - but the emperor will have no clothes, no agenda that could possibly be good for this country, and he will be flanked by the likes of Gore, Pelosi, Carter, etc. etc. - and Rev Wright, Ayers, Rezko - all under the bus for now.

@Mac Moore
I hope you're right about Deornwulf. For myself, I'm not so sure - I went to read his blog, and if he's trying for humor, then he's a satirist on par with Loyal Democrat.

And if he actually means that, then it's not funny, it's saddening.

More "nevers" At Dem.Convention.
(note to loquacious?: Good to be with you today. Excellent post @ 11:20 a.m. EST).

"Rev" Wright: You ha never hear that nmae

Never

ALSO:

Bill Ayers: Obama's radical left friend. No one ever heard of him at the Dem. Convention. You can bet on that.

George Soros: The money! You'll NEVER hear that name mentioned.

And just for will........

The Black Panthers and the Black Muslims: They'll NEVER, NEVER be mentioned.

Media Favoritism Working Against Obama
As more and more of the marginalized white vote sees and hears the adulations for Obama from the liberal news media, especially NBC, the more and more of us are donating time and money to McCain's team.

If you want to help defeat this arrogant candidate, volunteer with the McCain team. Go to the McCain website and sign up today.

deornwulf...
put down the crack pipe.

You are as delusional as the multitudes that have bought the hype. I have an extremely liberal friend that believes the MSM is too far right as well. To him it's true because he's SO far left even the idiots in MSM are to the right of his views.

It's looking better and better for McCain, but God help us if Obummer is elected.

Will...
T in PA is right. Quit gushing! Sounds like you're experiencing a serious mancrush. Pull your head out long enough to actually HEAR what your hero has been saying. It hasn't been much, but you seem to be at least somewhat intelligent, and you can't possibly think that Obozo could be good for the country. I have no problem with the idiots that don't have the capacity to understand what he's about, but INFORMED, INTELLIGENT individuals have no excuse unless they are socialists.

research is damning, and so isn't....
seeing and hearing with your own eyes! I do think it's important to just stop, step back, and ask yourself if what you are seeing, hearing and reading seems unbiased. I am a master social worker, and it is my JOB to read people's "cues" and try to figure out what they are really saying/doing/thinking. I wouldn't have gotten where I have in my career if I could not do that reasonably well. Not bragging--it's just what I have chosen to do, out of training, interest, and ability. And the DINOSAUR MEDIA doesn't even make it hard: their bias is "written all over their face", so to speak. They are unsuccessful in their attempts to hide their bias--their glee when things happen that benefit liberals or hurt conservatives--or disappointment when it's vice versa. (Some of them don't even TRY all that hard to hide it, so I'm not saying that an analyst has to be all that sharp to figure out what they're seeing/hearing.) This is the opposite of the hard data and research (as broad, deep, and helpful as that is). This is the PERSONAL--the human beings doing their biased work in PUBLIC, for all to see. It is equally as valid and valuable to dissect the bias in this way, too. It has to do with tonal and voice qualities, facial appearances, non-verbal movements and gestures, body positioning, etc. etc. The DINOSAUR media is soooooo far gone that they can't hide it--I don't think they could , even if they wantd to. They are human beings, after all. And they SHOW US what they like and don't like; what they want and don't want; what they support and don't support. A million times, every day.

Will: Obama is NOT black!
Will, like all liberals, believe in NEW math, where 2 + 2 does not =2. That's why kids like him are so confused. Problem: If Obama is 50% white, 35% ARABIC and 15% black...why does that make him a black man?
IT DOESN'T! Liberals are just putting another non black out there and calling him black (like B. Clinton was the "first black president" according to liberals).
Bert: You're right - it must be a man crush - and a threesome at that with Bill Clinton, Barak and Will!

As the American public

becomes more aware of the msm bias, the msm will continue to wither. They cut their own throats with their biases. Do you think they do not even realize this? How do they not understand that a news organization that is perceived as biased is no longer a place someone goes for news?

Deornwulf - Lost In Neverland
Ender as to Deornwulf's rambling love of Democrats causing Mac Moore to take it as humorous, "I hope you're right about Deornwulf. For myself, I'm not so sure - I went to read his blog, and if he's trying for humor, then he's a satirist on par with Loyal Democrat."

Well, I guess it was funny on several levels: first, because of the absurdity; and, second, because of his reverence for the absurd.

Sad. Truly sad.

But, still funny to read!

America Has Come A Long Way...
...when it can have an African-American run for president, realize he's not qualified, feel comfortable about not voting for him and there is no backlash when he doesn't win in November.

Barack L_I_E_S, and people don't care. I think he has lied much more than Hillary and there has not been much focus on his lies.

I am not moved by the hype, the lights, the polls or the MSM. This all makes Barack fall harder when his past associations and his dishonesty cause him to not be rewarded with the presidency of our "Great America".

I feel that Barack will not go on Bill O'Reilly's, "The Factor", because he is afraid of the questions that someone other than the MSM would ask. Hillary and McCain appeared months ago on that show.

Obama Negative Coverage
"A new study by the Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA), at George Mason University, shows that coverage of both Obama and McCain has been more negative than positive — but that Obama has clearly gotten the worst of it. ("Media Bash Barack — Not a Typo" is the headline of the center's press release, reproduced in full below.)

The study's findings, reported by James Rainey of the Los Angeles Times, show that of 249 campaign stories airing on the three network nightly newscasts and the first half-hour of Fox News' "Special Report with Brit Hume," Obama's coverage has been 72 percent negative and 28 percent positive, whereas McCain's has been 57 percent negative and 43 percent positive."

The above quote from an article on the Media Nation accurately represents what the TV coverage of Obama. Obama has more coverage than McCain but it is more negative. TV coverage on shows like Hannity et al are somewhat balanced by equally biased commentary by Keith Oberlin. However, the negative coverage on Obama on even left leaning media is palpable. In the last few days we have had the "Clinton Obama rift -- can it be healed", "Obama and the democrats need to be tougher against McCain", "The set for Obama's acceptance speech plays into the hands of McCain as it looks like ...", "Bill Ayers", etc. It seems to me that the ludicrous attempt by McCain trying to paint Obama as an elitist (McCain owns 8 houses and his family is worth 100s of millions) and a messiah are reinforced by the amount of time given to it by the media. McCain no doubt will make a big deal out of Obama talking to 70 thousand people in Denver. Perhaps he needs to do this to hide the fact that he can't draw the same crowds as Obama.

Obama Needs Coverage on Infanticide

The 'Born Alive' baby who has known the closest contact with another human any human can experience - the baby has been inside another human for months.

The baby has kicked, stretched and some even suck their thumbs. Every need has been met by its human host - shelter, nourishment and safety.

Suddenly one day the baby is attacked with chemicals and poisons.

The baby enters a world bent on death and destruction towards its life.

The baby has never seen a butterfly, puppy, pretty colors or things all babies enjoy or had any human say I love you.

The baby enters the world in excruciating pain and the best trained Medical experts in the world refuse the baby any aid - in a hospital - where all facilities are available and the Doctors have sworn to protect all human life - except his.

The baby is thrown on a cold table and left to die in some hidden place.

The baby struggles to breathe because a human is born with the human will to survive. The baby cries and sobs for help - that never comes.

The innocent baby tries to live with every breath and dies alone, abandoned like a used kleenex, never having experienced anything but pain, rejection and hatred.

When the baby finally dies a death of torture and the ultimate rejection any human can receive, it is such a worthless human it doesn't even have a 'Death Certificate' issued that it ever existed.

For a few minutes, hours or days, that baby WAS an American Citizen, that should have received all of the 'Rights and Protections' under law, that any other American Citizen should have.

Michelle and Barack Obama and most Democrats, have done everything humanly possible, to make sure this baby does NOT even receive any pain medication.

McCain: the ORIGINAL media darling
very ironic to hear repubs/cons complaining about press coverage when mccain has had a very healty relationship with the press so much so that when he initially ran for prez bush in 2000, his opponents were complaining of exactly the same thing. to wit:

Haley Barbour, has the media gone soft on John McCain? Is the media soft on McCain?

HALEY BARBOUR: Oh, I think it's probably more than that, Terry. I said last week that the news ... the national news media were slobbering all over John McCain and that well known conservative correspondent Mary McGrory of the Washington Post said that absolutely it was true, that I was quite right, that the press has swooned for McCain. I've never seen anything like it. And I think what's interesting for most viewers or people who are interested is that the press that is most pro-McCain are the most liberal press."

Will - You're right, but . . .
you lose sight of the fact of the left leanings of the media prior to Obama. Also, that's Elder -- no "s"!

WFallicoff, this is called...
trying to throw the dogs off the scent. The Center for Media and Public Affairs sounds netural and authoritative. Whaat happened is that in the late 90s and eaerly 2000s, the media and left realized they were now right out in the open with their bias---they had gone too far, and they realized there was now a wealth of research going back two decades that was wide and deep, which showed the extent of the rotting away of journalism's neutrality principal. (Plus, numerous "insiders" had by now come forth to reveal what was going on "behind the curtain" in terms of rabidly biased decision-making). So what to do? Create your own "centers" and organizations to somehow (talk about an impossible taks!) make it seem like the media was biased towards the RIGHT!! The RESEARCH emanating from these groups is all flawed. I studied the report you referenced, and it's the same story as with several other "surprising reports" by different groups over the years: ridiculously bad methodology and agenda-driven research. It's the worst kind of garbage, worse even than the DINOSAUR media's output, exactly because it has the patina of neutrality and scholarly objectivity surrounding it. But one invalid report weighted against mountains of research going back decades hardly matters for much. (And again--if you want to just check out the media bias for yourself, feel free. See what you can see.)I'm an old ex-leftist from the 1980s and 90s. Even in my hardcore Jesse Jackson/Jerry Brown days, I knew something was going badly wrong with the mainstream media. Today, the well is completely poisoned.)

Left Angle -- the "original" ? ?
Yah, people complain when the press singles out somebody for special treatment, and why shouldn't they? Who knows, maybe Clinton would be the Democratic nominee, had it not been for the media's love affair with Obama. You'll note that she *did* complain about it. So she's gotten a taste of what conservatives have been complaining about for decades.

Nobody's saying you can't have an opinion, and you can't have a preference. But the news media has a RESPONSIBILITY to give Americans the WHOLE STORY. Larry Elder's column demonstrates that they CAN do a better job when they put their minds to it.

I did not read all the comments
or even finish the article but, what about the qualitative aspects? Hard to measure. The quantitative stuff is fine and points an accusing finger just by virtue of the number of photographs and articles but, it leaves untouched the vast and far more important qualitative aspects. The spin. The simple selection of which photograph of a candidate to use can have a huge impact. Would it be fair, say to run 20 photographs of Obama with a flag or presidential looking seal in the background and 25 of McCain looking tired and haggard on the campaign trail? Would McCain be getting favored coverage by the numbers?

And the left wonders why conservatives are not content to just get the leftist spin on every single story. Most so-called news is manufactured in the journalism labs and actual newsworthy happenings are spun for political benefit. I'd rather go back to the thirty minutes a day spin job than continue to suffer the twenty four hour news assembly line.

Jim
Do you have some evidence that the Center for Media and Public Affairs is a biased organization and has distorted the facts on this issue? Please provide some support for your allegation, which pardon my repeating your statement tries "to throw the dog off the scent".

I watch cable news programs such as CNN, Fox News, MSNBC. I listed to a range of talk radio on the right and the left including: Rush Limbaugh, Dennis Prager, Tom Hartmann, to name a few. Throwing away the obvious bias on the radio shows and some of the commentary shows on the cable news network, I would say subjectively I would agree with the Center's numbers. Please tell me an equivalent for McCain when it comes to negative press, warranted or unwarranted dished out on the Obamas: Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, "they cling to guns and religion","600 dollar earrings", Rezko, supposed connection to Lois Farrakham, claims that he is a closet muslim, claims he was not born in the US, Claims he is an elitist, claims he is acting like a rock star, etc. etc.

Given the number of gaffs that Senator McCain makes on a nearly daily basis, I am surprised how little of this is reported by the news media.

WFallicoff--
First let me say the posts here saying McCain has little ground on which to stand are entirely true. He's always been the liberal media's darling (if I hear "maverick" one more time I'll throw up). It's just that now they 've found someone cuter (i.e. more liberal) who they can take to the ball--alas, such a heart break for McCain! Second, I put my comments on a broad time/subject scale. The bias arches over years and many, many more subjects than one election. Third, the Center is NOT in the same league as some out and out shams (Media Matters, FAiR, Project Censored, etc..) CMPA may be better described as slightly tilting left, much like the Annenberg Project. Also, it was founded in 1985, long before the comical "throw the dogs off the scent" efforts I was referencing. I stand corrected.
That all said, the latest report has some serious problems. The news segments studied are stripped of any comments that one side makes about the other, before the analysis begins. But what if one side is given many more "slam quotes" against the other side, in the news clip? Next, mere reporting of a poll result (even one question) is categorized as a "negative comment" by the news entity. Next, there is no complete report available online (or even a link to it)--just a very brief synopsis of findings. This always raises alarms among serious researchers. I am not saying there is not some validity to the report. I am saying that to cherry pick one (ONE) questionable study on ONE specific limited subject hardly does away with the ridiculously well-established and long-established research base which shows how UTTERLY CORRUPT toda's DINOSAUR MEDIA has become....
(But again--just watch and listen to with your own eyes and ears if you don't believe all of the studies, or the insiders who've decided to "blow the whistle"....)

will
...slow down man. This is not that kind of site. You might want to put away the lotion and put your pants back on...I know Obamas liberal but not THAT liberal.

You want to vote for the guy or marry him?

Tip of the Iceberg
The MSM is in the tank for Obama and tailor their coverage accordingly. Their excuse is PC based and idiology but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Just as they covered the Iraq war and the economy to try to sink the Bush Administration, never mind the impact on American Sons and Daughters fighting in Iraq and Afganistan, what do you think will happen when Obama and the dems take over? The MSM will cover up all bad news so that we won't know disaster is coming until it is too late. That is the irony of today's nuts that call themselves journalists.

Will The "Shill"
I think Nancy Pelosi would make a great..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Never Mind

I'm sorry...
Is this supposed to be new? Countless books and articles written on liberal media bias have been written, and sold. They only people left who don't believe it's the truth is the MSM themselves.

Do they think their critics are just liars or stupid? Do they just not care? Its become a complete mystery to me.

It certainly doesn't start or end with Obama but, its no less appalling.

see a gaffe, raise you one

Only a Dem can equate consorting for decades with racist bigots, corrupt fixers and communist terrorists to "gaffes". As for the latter, none McCain has made can compare to Obambi's telling everyone he'd campaigned in 57 states, but not Hawaii or Alaska! He must have had a lot of help getting into and through Harvard.

Obama's longterm allergy to the American flag means he had no idea how many stars it carried. He probably doesn't know what the stripes stand for either. His marxist handlers forgot to program such basics into their robot (change, change, change...)who's also dead as soon as he's separated from his teleprompter.

Time when McCain on Frontpage
They bashed him over and over since now they have their new media darling. Since Palin was picked in less than an hour, all the bad negativity comments already being spewed by Obama's MSNBC, CBS, ABC, plus liberal newspaper of early edition already in print.
