Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

"I intend to proudly vote for Obama," said a caller to a National Public Radio show, "because I want to show the world what America is all about -- that a person of color can become president of the United States."

Let's put aside whether the caller would express the same enthusiasm were Obama a tax-cutting, Iraq-war-supporting Republican. And let's put aside what, if anything, America needs to "prove" to the rest of the world.

Obama -- bright, sharp, a solid speaker -- ran an incredible, come-from-nowhere campaign to topple a front-runner who, at one time, led by some 30 points. But as Obama once said in criticizing his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the caller acts as if America, as regards race, were "static."

What of the last 40 or so years?

-- Today, if black Americans' gross domestic product were measured separately, it would be the 16th-richest country in the world.

-- Nearly 80 percent of blacks live above the poverty level, contrasted with 65 percent 40 years ago.

-- The greater percentage of blacks live either middle-class or better lives.

-- The employment rate for married black men equals the employment rate for married white men.

-- The average black woman with a college degree makes more money than the average white woman with a college degree.

-- The highest percentage of blacks in American history -- 46 percent -- own their homes.

-- The majority of blacks live in integrated neighborhoods (defined as living with at least 10 percent of neighbors belonging to "other races").

-- Black-white interracial marriage has soared -- after anti-miscegenation laws were struck down by the Supreme Court in 1967 -- from 65,000 in 1970 to 422,000 in 2005.

-- Los Angeles, a city devastated by the Watts riots in 1965, with a population about 11 percent black, hired back-to-back black police chiefs.

-- A black man served as United States ambassador to the United Nations.

-- A black man served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

-- Two blacks have served as members of the United States Supreme Court.

-- The largest association of doctors -- the predominately white American Medical Association -- elected a black physician as leader.

-- The largest association of lawyers, the American Bar Association, elected a black president.

-- The Ford Foundation, one of America's largest philanthropic private foundations, with 2007 assets valued at $13.7 billion, was led for 12 years by a black man.

-- Blacks hold or have held CEO positions at major companies, such as Merrill Lynch, American Express and Time Warner.

-- Black-owned businesses grow at a rate faster than white-owned businesses.

-- The multiracial Tiger Woods is the world's most famous and wealthiest athlete in earnings and product endorsements.

-- Major League Baseball -- America's pastime -- is comprised of 40 percent black, Latino and Asian players.

-- The Super Bowl, the most-watched sporting event in America, recently featured two teams headed by black coaches.

-- Black females have won the Miss America beauty pageant.

-- Black economist and best-selling author Thomas Sowell, based on the number of newspapers that carry his column, is one of the country's top 10 columnists.

-- "The Cosby Show," a positive, upbeat sitcom about a black, upper-middle-class family, reigned for years as America's most-watched television program.

-- Black faces on television abound -- in commercials, as local and national news anchors, and in shows playing a variety of characters -- from doctors and lawyers up to and including the president of the United States.

-- Will Smith, a black actor, tops the list of the nation's movie box-office stars.

-- Black actor Samuel L. Jackson appeared in more movies than any other actor of any color during the 1990s.

-- Black television host Oprah Winfrey, arguably one of the most powerful television personalities in the history of the medium, has amassed, to date, a fortune estimated at $2.5 billion.

-- Blacks serve or have served as mayors in many American cities, including the three largest -- New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

-- The current speaker of the California Assembly is the first black woman to head a statewide legislative body.

-- Blacks comprise 10 percent of the House of Representatives, including some from primarily white Southern districts.

-- A black man serves as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee -- arguably the most powerful committee in the House.

-- A black man served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee.

-- Virginia, one of the states of the original Confederacy, elected a black man governor.

-- The Republican Party, in the last election cycle, nominated blacks as candidates for governor of Ohio, governor of Pennsylvania, and senator from Maryland.

-- Blacks have served the current administration as back-to-back secretaries of State.

So, what does Obama's candidacy mean? His victory shows that America grows ever closer to Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of a society that judges people based on content of character, rather than color of skin.

Obama's victory does not prove this. It confirms it.

Lemme get this straight...
Why the hell is inter-racial marriage listed as a sign that life for black people in America has improved??? That is wrong on so many levels that it is laughable... particularly when you consider that a lack of stable black relationships results in soaring rates of single motherhood, which contributes to many problems in the black community. Then, if you couple that with the other statistic Elder provides: that married black men make as much as married white men... but just aren't marrying black women, then how is that helping the black race?

Anyway, if Elder doesn't see the difference between all those other accomplishments and having the FIRST president who is not an old, white, southern man, then he is a lost cause.

Marxism
Jack,

Anyone who says they want to "Take" profits from "Big Oil" is a Marxist. Also, anyone who uses class envy for political gain is using Marxist tactics. Anyone who says Bush's tax cuts were only for the wealthy (class envy) is not only a Marxist, but is also either ignorant or a liar. Jack, can you tell me how much the highest tax bracket will increase vs the lowest tax bracket if the Bush tax cuts are eliminated?

RACISTS?
For those that think the white posters are racists: Barack's erstwhile "church's" pastor
has in several instances said that he believes in the "Black Liberation Theology" of James Cone. A quote from Cone: "There is no use for a God who loves white oppressors the same as oppressed blacks. We have had too much of white love, the love that tells blacks to turn the other cheek and go the second mile. What we need is the divine love as expressed in black power, which is the power of blacks to destroy their oppressors, here and now, by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject God’s love."

"If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck."

"Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company." - George Washington: Advice too late for BO.

jude oracle
was every president since the adoption of an income tax a marxist? was ronald reagan a marxist? while you may think a flat tax is best, arguing that all progressive forms of taxation are marxist makes you sound silly. making the bush tax cuts "permanent" would lock in a progressive system of taxation forever. what could be more marxist than that, according to your defintion of these terms?

Racism
A few folks have asked me to identify racist posts in this thread. I am happy to do so. Here are a fwe from this thread. There are more in other threads.

Monique: Post 8

“Obama cannot and will not win this election. He is an affirmative action candidate. He couldn't even win without his super delegates who, along with the media, reminded us of his ONLY qualification: that he is BLACK and will "make history."”

Racist because it reduces Obama to a single characteristic, his race, without acknowledging his educational and political history in any way.

Audi: Post 18

“You know why that is, right? Listened to Mrs. Sista Souljah Obama lately? See what happens when a company can hire a Black Woman and get a TwoFer to up their Dont Loot And Burn Me Bro Points Total?”

And

“If he does not get elected, he and his crowd will burn our country to the ground.”

Does it need explanation?

Marxism? Get a Grip Part II
Progressive Taxation

It’s absurd to suggest that any form of progressive taxation is Marxist. For one thing, Marxism would dictate that there would be no income differential in the first place. You might not like this, but it is not Marxist, or even socialist, by any stretch of the imagination.

You may not like his idea. It doesn’t much matter to me. But it is not Marxist just because you don’t like it.

Free K-12 and Higher Education

Free K-12 education is already in place and it is constitutionally mandated in, I think, every state. Regardless, assuring that your population has access to education is hardly Marxist. Obama’s plan does NOT call for free higher education. Obama’s plan calls for tax credits to offset the majority of the cost of attendance at a Community College. A Marxist system would create a national system of educational institutions requiring no fees at all.

Taxing Dividends as a matter of “fairness”

It is perfectly reasonable to tax dividends as if they are income, because they are income. It is perfectly reasonable, and not at all Marxist, to include all forms of income in the tax system and it is perfectly reasonable to want the tax system to be fair. This proposal is clearly not Marxist, because under Marxism there are no dividends: the state owns all the means of production.

Marxism? Get a Grip.
Sorry folks, I had to put in my air conditioning units yesterday.

But that’s OK, because I am sure you will all relish the chance to, once again, get the issues dead wrong.

I am delighted people have, after repeated requests, identified Obama proposals that they suggest are “Marxist.” Now, I haven’t yet asked anyone to explain why the proposals are Marxist because it was hard enough to get anyone to even name one. To save time, I will just go ahead and address the proposals identified. As a disclaimer, let me point out that I don’t agree with many of his proposals myself, only with the idea that they are somehow obviously Marxist. They appear to be:

Universal Health Care

Progressive Taxation

Free K-12 Education

Free High Education

Taxing Dividends as a matter of “fairness”

An increase in foreign aid of some 65 billion a year.
------
An increase in foreign aid of some 65 billion a year.

The so called “Global Poverty Act” was not “Obama’s Bill,” it was jointly sponsored by Obama and Richard Lugar, a Republican. Regardless, the act does require a commitment to a strategy already endorsed by the US, to reduce global poverty. That strategy includes such Marxist human rights claims as this: “Democratic and participatory governance based on the will of the people best assures these rights,” which sounds a great deal like the foreign policy beliefs of Republicans to me.

I don't agree with this bill, but it is not Marxist.

Universal Health Care

Universal health care is not Marxist. It is not even necessarily socialized medicine. Socialized medicine implies state ownership and operation of the medical system. Obama’s plan doesn’t contain proposals to develop a government health care system. Private providers and private insurance are still the vast bulk of the system and government acts to assist in the purchase of private health insurance.

I do agree with universal health care, but the plan for such is not Marxist.

"PROGRESSIVE" taxation?
This is Marxism in action. Flat taxation has been a resounding success in virtually every country it has been adopted in, 'progressive' taxation is economically, morally and politically bankrupt.

"From the productive we take; to the vicitms we redistribute"

i'm a moderate republican
who is leaning towards mccain (mclame, LOL) but i have to say, a lot of this chatter about obama hating america and being a marxist or a socialist or whatever is kind of really stupid. explain to me how wanting a progressive income tax locked in forever with the highest wage earners taxed at 35% (as the bush tax cuts do) is awesome and pro-american, but a progressive income tax with the highest bracket at, say, 38%, well that is marxism. i want lower taxes just as much as the next guy. but calling obama a marxist is probably not entirely accurate.
and to mr. elder, i'm a long time listener, first time commenter. great article! black people have been doing great things for almost 40 years now, and it's like nobody in the msm noticed until obama. i guess they're just making up for lost time.

Does anyone REALLY want an Obama victory
Reelect Jimmy Carter. Vote for Barack Obama! Need anymore be said!

Magnificent orator?
Say what? Watch this guy, for crying out loud. He turns and reads, then turns and reads, then turns back and reads. His head just keeps turning back and forth. He doesn't look at the people he's supposedly speaking to, he's focused on the prompter. He stumbles when he loses the prompt. How on earth does that make him a magnificent orator????

I just don't get it. I like people to look me in the eye when they speak. That way I know that they know what they're saying and not just mouthing someone elses rhetoric.

Are people beginning to believe Chris Mathews ravings?? Judging by the accolades given about his magnificant oratory skills, I would guess so.

Oh "Robert" NO ONE SAID that

Saddam was going to attack up...

Watching you... as always! :-)

Lunatic Fringe Working Overtime
It is easy to see how we came to be in this predicament after reading some of these posts. The left will buy any lie, accept any liar and excuse the lies and try to justify them.

It is imperative that this man be stopped. He must not be given the reins of government.John McCain is the only person standing between him and our ruin.

McCain is trying as hard as he can to put distance between conservatives and himself. We have to ignore that and work to defeat this Muslim Madman. If it takes McCain to do it,so be it.

If he won't fight the left,we have to do it for him.He is what he is,but he's what we have.He is trying to appeal to enough moderates, etc.,to win.We have to work AGAINST Obama. He just must be beaten.

What Obama's Victory Means...

It simply means that a large chunk of Americans do not comprehend that freedom is fragile and fleeting.

Today we live in a moderately free society. Tomorrow can be here before we know it. Marxism usually arrives in one fell swoop. Before the average Animal Farm citizen takes note, it is too late.

"Ignorance and Want" are key to a Marxist advance. Can we deny that these 2 words best describe an Obama voter?

If only...
votes for mister Obama were on the basis of "the content of his character" rather than his skin color. For most Blacks and too many whites his ultra-liberal ideology was boosted by his minority status- that being Black. Making history and getting an authenic "Anti-Bush" (boy, and HOW!)achieved in one felled swoop.

Many will deny this obvious fact, but in the same breath accuse those voting for Mrs. Clinton of racism against Obama. They can usually keep a straight face while insisting that a 70% white vote for Clinton IS racist, but a 90%+ Black vote for Obama is not. The duplicity of such a claim is preposterous.

They'll make these types of claims and "won't bat and eye"...

P.S.
and I hope that AudiR10 is wrong, in case he doesn't get elected.

What does Obama's victoiry mean?
That you can fool some of the people all of the time.

Jack
Nobody wants to educate you about socialism or maxism. Here is a the long and short of it....free healthcare, free education K-12 and college, and of course taxing dividends not because they will increase revenue because history has demonstrated otherwise but to make it 'fair'. Most socialists feel it's their God given duty to make things 'fair' meaning instead of creating wealth and rewarding wealth creation - they tax the working class to give to those prefer to receive than to earn an income. Obama's programs/policies stretch from free healthcare in the USA to poverty eradication in the world by increasing an additional 845billion dollars to what we already give to the UN to 'eradicate poverty'. Funded courtesy of USA tax payers who earn a joint income of 75K.
Now go do some more reading on your own

blacks
Read your articles all the time however most people are to stupid to read and decide for themselves. They listen to Jackson and Sharpton on tv and told that white people think they're no good. The media is totally against Bush and never give him credit for the blacks he put in important positions. In my mind it's people like Bill Cosby and yourself who should be looked up to and get out of the gutter instead of looking for a handout.

It means
fist pumping is not just a basket baller's or rap artist's gesture....can has now become a presidential salute!

A Princeton education.
Michelle Obama's Princeton thesis is the rantings of an illiterate affirmative action appointee. Princeton should be embarrassed.

Can't treat all the same!!!!
Michelle O in her Princeton thesis "Various Attitudes of Black Princeton Alumni" opines that there is must continue to be a distinctive Black culture which is very different from white culture. She bewails the thought of increasing integration of Blacks into mainstream society. She cries out against "integrated Blacks" saying they have lost touch with Black culture in their attempts to become adjusted and comfortable in their new culture-the white culture.

Her thesis tries to measure all activity in terms of positive contributions to the general welfare of the Black community and the advancement of Black people towards freedom. When Michelle is first lady her Blacks only teas will be seen as her humble attempt to not become adjusted to or comfortable with those evil devils, the whites that run this country.

Michelle really believes in equal treatment under the law unless you are an African-American then you must be given affirmative action or as it is better known a racial preference. The woman is a rank racist who was more than a mere congregant at the Rev Wright's church that preached hate for white America, she was undoubtedly one of those dancing in the asiles shouting "Amen!" to Wright's rants of "God D@mn the USofKKK."

When can we expect BO to toss Michelle under the bus as he tells us he has never agreed with her racists attitudes? She is the crazy wife who has had no influence on the great BO's thinking.

So what does Obama's candidacy mean?
It means America has come a long way, BUT it still has a looooooooooooooooooooong way to go.

And why is that? To admit otherwise would mean we could do away with "group rights" and affirmative action.

Elder has bought into the lie that white America is racist when he says:
"His victory shows that America grows ever closer to Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision of a society that judges people based on content of character, rather than color of skin."

King's so-called vision is the last thing blacks want, since then we would have to forget people are white and give them the same opportunites and privileges we give blacks.

Proud Lib
You wrote that "This conservative perspective is like telling a blind man that at least he isn't deaf and dumb."

Well, what should we tell him if he grouses incessantly about being blind?
Should we greet our black bretheren with some kind of sign that says "I feel so sorry for you because you're black"? Or should we instead just treat everyone the same (hopefully with respect)?

The wrong Black
OK ... So America is moving beyond race. The problem is ithe individual is a clueless, inexperienced, Illinois machine politican, pushed forward by a party pandering to the black vote. Obama's association with questionable people, some harboring true hatred for this country, leads me to question his judgement. His own comments regarding meeting w/ despots and his spouse's obvious dislike for this country also give me pause. Good thing to have a non-white in this position ... bad thing that it is this non-white.

Just a thought
None of these accomplishments and statistics listed in the article are comparable to Obama's historic victory. One step away from the most powerful position in the world is unmeasurable in it's affect on America (which is made up of people of all races, not just black and white) and around the world.

gayle: No problem! But, jack seems to

have gone... last post 4:33PM! :-)

But, that's typical of the libs...Show them exactly why they're 100%.. flat out.... WRONG, and they leave!

OBAMA
An older gent at work made a remark about Obama.
It showed both of our ages and the times we grew up in. He said Obama was our first black man nominated for the president. He was suprised that it actually happened. I was like "Oh yea". Here is my point he is in his 60's and me I'm in my 30's. I grew up with the idea that it is what is in you that counts and the color of your skin does'nt matter.

Thanks Anne
for explaining Marxism to Jack. You've got to wonder how the guy missed the plain evidence of Obama's Socialism/Marxism proposals. Apparently, people like Jack think that if you pretend something isn't what it is, noone will be the wiser and they can get away with their fraudulent activities and proposals.

FeargalX
From whence do you get your information regarding Obama's mother and John McCain having "slaveholding" ancestors? I didn't know such information was available regarding their geneology tree. By the way, your comments are such a stretch, you put taffy to shame. Actually, you make taffy look literate by comparison.

Dredd: (#63) Thanks. :-)
Forgot one of my favorites though...

"Obama's 'Global Poverty Act' (S.2433) ... would commit the U.S. to spending 0.7 percent of gross national product on foreign aid, which amounts to a phenomenal 13-year total of $845 billion over and above what the U.S. already spends."
http://www.aim.org/aim-column/obamas-global-tax-proposal-up -for-senate-vote/

And this is while he's a Senator... As pres., the thought is just too terrible...

Libs, please note, this has NOTHING WHAT-SO-EVER to do with Obama's color!

WHO'S BUTT BOY IS OBAMA?
Mr. Elder,

Would it not be a bit easier for folks to learn about Obama's Character, if he could reveal who he is, not what the MSM wants him to be?

Right now it's hands off this black Messaiah.

Shells... Yup! :-)
.

It might prove something if...
For example, if Clarence Thomas, a black American descendant of slaves, who grew up in the segregated deep south, became president. After all, Justice Thomas grew up speaking words African slaves spoke (he grew up a member of the Gullah community).

Obama -- is half Kenyan. American slaves did not come from Kenya. Obama's mother had two slaveholding white ancestors.

So, why is this an accomplishment. McCain also has slavenholding ancestors.

Where Did Jack Jack Go?
Maybe he sees the Marxism in Obama now?

Proud Liberal's Faulty Analogy
Proud Liberal:

"Why can't Elder say that ever closer is not good enough, has never been good enough and will never in the future be good enough?"

He won't say it because he's not a whining liberal victicrat; although my terms are redundant.

"This conservative perspective is like telling a blind man that at least he isn't deaf and dumb."

The liberal perspective is like telling a blind man that he needs the government to give him more seeing-eye dogs, more canes, more books in braille, more books-on-tape, because his blind grandfather only had a cane. And if the government falls short of handing out 110% of these "entitlements" it's because Americans are all bigoted against blind people.

Obama Victory
Sorry, Mr Elder, but all the victory and your article prove is that all Obama said about how hard Blacks have it is false.

Marxism and Obama
Anne's description of Marxism as a political philosophy is a good one. Jack, do you define the term differently? If you do, could you let us know how you define it so that we can all be on the same page?

Using Anne's definition, which she properly attributed, spend just a few minutes on Obama's website. In particular, look at his positions on the economy, education, the environment, family, poverty, etc. His premise is clear. He will give and he will fund so many initiatives it makes the head spin. Free health-care, universal paid sick-leave, free education for life, free pre-kindergarten, etc., etc.

The problem is, the billions of dollars he plans to give are not his -- they come from increased taxes or directly from employers (who in turn take it, necessarily, from consumers). Promising to give so much to some people, when he will have to take so much from other people in order to do it, is Marxism.

gayle: Pathetic Lib, as most libs can't

quite understand that "black" has absolutely NOTHING to do with being opposed to BHO being elected Pres.

In this particular case, it has ONLY to do with BHO's ideology, and the fact that he's a MARXIST! As if THAT isn't enough...???

BUT THE REAL HYOCRACY is that Pathetic Lib and his liberal henchmen, take every opportunity to ridicule and diminish all those who actually have been so successful.... "Uncle T... and worse.

Now that I think of it, I wonder why BHO would be so different from all of the blacks Elder mentioned in his column? Why aren't these liberal henchmen attacking BHO as they have all the other successful blacks?

Ummmm? Can hardly wait to hear their excuse for that???

Marxist-Socialist
"Some of us will have to give up some things so others can have more." M. Obama

Pathetic Liberal
If you can't see the value of the progress that blacks have made over the last forty years, then you are worse off than the blind man you cite. You sir, or madam are deaf, dumb and blind!

P Lib: Well, why aren't you saying the

SAME THING about HRC?

IF your argument had just a little bit of logic to it... which it obviously doesn't... then this should be a wash for dems...

IF either one of the dem candidates (until now anyway) wins the election... it should be a win!

You would get either a "women" or a "black"... A FIRST for either, who until now has just been "ever closer."

"Grows Ever Closer"
Why can't Elder say that ever closer is not good enough, has never been good enough and will never in the future be good enough?

This conservative perspective is like telling a blind man that at least he isn't deaf and dumb.

jack! Listen up! Pay attention!

Do YOU know what Bozo has said in his speeches?

Well, IF you do (doubtful) then you'd know exactly what he's said time and time and time again, that aligns right up there with Marxism.

Now, are you here to debate (right!) or are you here to make a fool of yourself... at $10/hr., or are you making a fool of yourself for free.

Marxist ideas
Universal health care. Every American is entitled by birth to the same health care as the I, the great BO, have as a US senator. This Jack is what is known as socialized medicine/marxist care.

I the great BO will make the oil companies put their profits into schemes devised by myself that will make sure everyone in this country has clean and cheap energy. This Jack is what is known in the real world as government control of resources/or the marxist way of doing things.

I the great BO will give every American from age 1-81 free education after I have recruited an army of well paid government controlled teachers that will educate the fools and idiots who doubt global warming and hang on to their religon and guns. The government is always going to make things better as long as I the great BO am in charge. This Jack is the marxist ideal for educating the masses and curing them of the opiate of religon.

These are three Marxist ideas that BO spouted in Minneapolis when he gave his speech last night.

Jack the US constitution does not include the phrase "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need." No it is only the great messiah, BO, who thinks that what this country really, really needs is a government cure for all our problems real or preceived. In short BO is a marxist!

The Definition of Racism
Whatever anyone such a Jayhawk asserts it to be; a white person having an opposing opinion to that of a hypersensitive black person.
Furthermore, noone has stated that racism has been vanquished in America. It has been pointed out using facts and statistics that blacks have made tremendous progress in all areas of importance over the last forty years. Tremendous popularity of blalck entertainers and atheletes. Economic progress and great participation in all aspects of the American dream. No, we are not perfect here in America and we probably never will be. But, the subject of racism will always be open to discussion and most of us are committed to equality and justice for all. And, that is a very good thing and something to be proud of.
Sorry if I rained on your Pity Parade, jayhawk. Too bad you can't shed old, imbedded habits that do nothing to enhance your self-worth.

jack says
that racism is still easy to find in the above posts. Where jack? I see plenty of criticism of Mr. Obama--is that what you mean by racism? 'Cause the criticism I see has naught to do with his skin. It has to do with his politix.

On the other hand, don't you think it slightly disingenuous not to acknowledge that some people voted FOR Mr. Obama because of his race? Surely some people did.
Lots of black people did.
And lots of white guys trying to impress black lady co-workers too. To deny that as part of the mix is just dishonest.

Hey Larry
Great article. I love it when you bring up these facts. It's interesting that Sharpton and Jesse Jackson don't look at the positive and tend to accentuate the negative to bring people down. I respect you a lot for bringing these facts to light.

Anne
Perhaps if you responded to what I wrote, you would have written somethign different. But, because you responded to the tiny voices in your own head, you provided a meaningless bit of trivia. I know what MArxism is. I probably know far mroe abotu ti and other socio political philsophies than you do.

However, I have been asking people such as yourself to provide a statement or policy from Obama that qualfies as being MArxist.

HD
Who exactly liberated folks from that guy 7 decades ago? It wasn't guys without guns. If you ever need defending (again), you'd better hope somebody has one.
If America were imperialist, there would be more states than even Mr. Obama thinks there are.

If Senator Obama Is Elected President
If Senator Obama is elected President it will mean that he will have an opportunity to succeed or fail like all the white men who have been President.

As soon as Sharpton or Jackson get

a hold of this list of VERY SUCCESSFUL black men and women, guaranteed that they and their followers are going to be really angry.

Kind of blows their argument right out of the water, doesn't it???

Oh Jack, what a fool!
"What is Marxism"

http://www.allaboutphilosophy.org/what-is-marxism-faq.htm

"Marxism is an economic and social system based upon the political and economic theories of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. While it would take veritably volumes to explain the full implications and ramifications of the Marxist social and economic ideology, Marxism is summed up in the Encarta Reference Library as “a theory in which class struggle is a central element in the analysis of social change in Western societies.” Marxism is the antithesis of capitalism which is defined by Encarta as “an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and distribution of goods, characterized by a free competitive market and motivation by profit.” Marxism is the system of socialism of which the dominant feature is public ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange."

Did you get the part about.... "While it would take veritably volumes to explain the full implications and ramifications of the Marxist social and economic ideology,..."

IF you knew squat about Marx or Marxism, you wouldn't even be asking your question. Just asking makes it clear how ignorant you truly are!

Ender
You write: "Are you sure it's 'racism' (based on race) and not 'policism' (based on policies or politics) that has everyone up in arms?"

I suggest that some people find Obama's policies problematic and that other people find his race problematic. There isn't an "everyone" we can discuss.

You also write: "The problem is that many people seem to think, as I glean (possibly incorrectly) from your own work here, that because Barack Obama happens to be of African descent, his policies should be above criticism."

I have never identified any post or any person who thinks Obama's policies should be above criticism. Can you identify one? In fact, I have been trying to get those who claim Obama is a Marxist to identify any comment or policy that that qualifies as advocating Marxism. Thus far, no takers.

You conclude by saying:"If you truly think that it is racism, rather than policism, that guides the people on this site, then I have nothing else to say." Thankfully, I did not say and do not believe that racism guides (all) hte people on this site. I merely said that racism is evident in some of hte posts. If you don't realize that, then you are correct: there is nothing else to say.

Of all the ridiculous reasons to vote

for BHO... this has to be the all time dumbest!

"... because I want to show the world what America is all about -- that a person of color can become president of the United States."

Since when do we elect anyone to prove anything to another country... or the world?

How about electing the most qualified? Or, in this case, how about not electing a Marxist?

Racism Alive and Well in U.S.A.
Larry, want proof of racism here in your country? Just peruse the comments section after you publish this article at Town Hall.

Mr Elder
You have rather rained on the parade of some who regularly show up to remind us all that racism is still alive and well, that blacks have endured indignities and slurs growing up (white people never had to deal with bullies, slurs, taunts or anything like that growing up, and white people never had to deal with anything unfair happening to them).
You've diluted the claim to continued oppression in America. Shame on you!
Now I'll go read the posts and see if they showed up and what they have to say... (it'll be yeah, BUT... then all the stuff about what they had to grow up with, and that those who never experiened it just cannot begin to understand...).

6 for 6
I am now 6 for 6. In six different threads, I have conmfronted peopel who call Obama a Marxist or a socialist. In each case I have asked them to point to any commetns or proposals Obama has made that qualify as advocating socialism or Marxism.

Thus far no one has done so.

Perhaps we will be able to put this little canard to rest.

@Jack:
Regarding your post #35:
Are you sure it's 'racism' (based on race) and not 'policism' (based on policies or politics) that has everyone up in arms?

Racism isn't a valid arguing platform. (Note: This should apply to all forms - 'No dogs or Irish allowed' - not just to a one-way process regarding a single specifc ethnic group.) No one is disputing that. The problem is that many people seem to think, as I glean (possibly incorrectly) from your own work here, that because Barack Obama happens to be of African descent, his policies should be above criticism. Sorry to disappoint you, but -no one- has the right to claim that, for themselves or any other. Especially if it's a case, as this is, where those policies have a chance of becoming law, or gaining the force of law. (My own personal beliefs and policies, for example, have no such chance. They still are not above criticism or reproach.)

If you truly think that it is racism, rather than policism, that guides the people on this site, then I have nothing else to say.

Obama selection
Ialways read Mr. Elder, respect his logic and generally agree with him, but this time I differ. His opening sentences in which a caller votes for Obama because he is black negates his conclusion that we are arriving at a color blind world. Voting because of race is stupid and is racism, whether it favors Asian, black, Hispanic or white. If they young lady had said she was supporting him because of his history, his beliefs, his experience - fine, but she only menitoned, at least Mr. Elder only mentioned race. Racism is alive and well. Bill D.

Katz
Good one. I am sure you convinced a few fence sitters with your insightful analysis.

Good Deal
All of the elements listed by Larry Elder will not be enough to make Lady Obama proud to be an American because she is bitchy, whining, and nasty. The only certainty about B. Hussein is that he is an affirmative action drone who doesn't know how many states are in the Union, he can deliver a speech when reading a teleprompter, he is disdainful of bitter clingers, and he is an anti-American black racist. Doesn't this sound like a good deal for the United States?

Silence Would Be
Yes we have made a great deal of progress, as Elder's column points out. We also hage a ways to go, as Maroon Warrior's post shows.

In your post, you make three assertions that are not just opinion, but subject to factual analysis. You claim Obama has socialist/marxist leanings. I challenge you to identify a socialist/marxist statement or proposal. You indicate Obama has minimized the facts of the progress listed by Elder. I challenge you to provide a comment or identify a policy which does that. ( I ask because I have heard hiom point out how much progress has been made on racial issues.) and finally, you imply there is some quesiotn whether Obama holds his first loylaty to Africa or America. I challenge you to provide any comment he has ever made or written that suggests he is not loyal to the US.

We have made progress as Larry Elder"s
article proves. I am disappointed that the Obama campaign has done so much to minimize the facts. I am disappointed that hatred for Whitey continues to be nourished by two spiritual mentors of Obama. I am disappointed that the self proclaimed uniter has had such a divisive effect.
My vote against Obama is not based on his chosen ethnic identity but on his lack of experience, his socialist/marxist leanings and the unasked/unanswered question of which nation holds his greatest loyalty--Africa (as stated on the TUCC website) or America (where he now reluctantly wears a lapel symbol).

Irony
The irony here is that many of the posters who agree with Elder actually provide examples of why Elder is only telling half the story.

It's clear from many posts here that racism toward black men and women is still easy to find.

Trinity UCC and Black Value Sys
Should have pointed out in 12:52 post that BO's now former church, Trinity UCC, has as one of central themes Dr Byrd's racist rant, the black value system.

Kerijay
That's why I'm voting for McCain. At least most of my money and our country will still be intact. It may not be a perfect solution, but at least it will keep impending doom at bay for 4 years.

What does Obama's victory mean?
It means that mainstream media is inordinately more powerful than most people realize. MSM made Barack Obama, thin as his resume is and got him to the point of winning the nomination. I remember last year at this time, people were saying, "The nomination is Hillary's to lose." How quickly those tables turned. Now, MSM may just get this guy elected.

The man is a magnificent orator, but that's about it. His ability to talk without a teleprompter is as bad as anyone I have ever seen -- perhaps because he doesn't have much rattling around above the neck. He is charismatic as all get-out and the throngs that follow him breathlessly waving their "Change we can believe in" signs are no more than brainless followers of a pied piper.

Black or white or biracial doesn't matter. As others have pointed out, Obama is the epitome of style over substance.

BO has overcome
The great BO will lead us all to the promised land of peace, free health care, free education ages 1-81, high paying nonexportable jobs, and low cost clear energy. Who can be against him? He is only promising what every American has a right to by birth!

By the way Michelle Robinson's (Obama) Princeton thesis "Various Attitudes of Black Princeton Alumni" might have become a best seller except for the tortured logic and her obvious rip off of the central ideas from Dr Manford Byrd arthor of The Black Value System.

Both her thesis and Dr Byrd's value system end up at the same place. "Pledge to make the fruits of all developed and acquired skills available to the Black community. To measure the worth and validity of all activities in terms of positive contributions to the general welfare of the Black community and the advancement of Black people towards freedom."

The wanna be new first lady sees all of America through a race based lens. Spend to much time around whites and you lose your Black identity was the whole idea behind her thesis. This is the race crazed mindset of Michelle Obama. We are indeed headed for a brave new world.

When the first lady makes out her guest list the first question she'll have is are you Black or white. Even the annointed one, BO, might have failed the question as he is half white and was raised in a very white culture which if your are Black is akin to being raised by a cult of white devils. Only by the grace of Rev Wright and and the Trinity UCC congregation was he able to convert himself into a real Black!

Obama and his white grndma
will someone please get a jack and get the bus off of her...maybe Rev Wright will do it, being a man of the cloth...maybe Minister Farrakhan will do it being a Minister...or maybe it will be the Great Rev Jackson...oh right, she is a white woman....run her over again, she is probably a racist anyways...holding the black man down...

Why bother to vote
when we knew all along who was going to win. It shouldn't be about race, color or party but the best person to hold our constitutional rights and that isn't the case. After all the millions of dollars wasted in the election we are still screwed.

When the dem gets done with their taxes we will have nothing.

Obama a better patriot than McCain!
Yes, as a white man and a legal immigrant of 52 years and a staunch conservative Christian Republican, I hereby wish to declare that in reality, Obama is a better patriot than McCain any day, within the spirit of the Founding Fathers, period. Imperialism equals self-destruction, as history is proof!

Yes, having learned much, yes much more than most Americans born in America, as to why this nation was called into existence, to for once and for all use peace to make this a better world than guns heretofore, hence my above declaration, even though I have no use for his political views, however McCain's are not much better either.

When ever more hear George W.speak and now McCain bragging about the use of guns to solve world problems and insulting Obama, I tend to hear the echo of none other than the guy who also some 7 decades ago, thought that he could subdue the world with guns, but is now resting somewhere only Gods knows, with all his guns on top of, no different than all previous Empires; not to forget the British Empire, right?

Larry if all that is true,
and I'm certain it is, why are my black friends, coworkers, and neighbors here in Chicago constantly whining? Not one single black person I know here in Chicago is glad to be an American. They find fault with everything American. Having a black president won't be enough either I've been told. It's depressing.

WHAT DOES OBAMA'S VICTORY MEAN?
His victory simply confirms the truism that "you can fool some of the people some of the time" with the MSM abetting the candidate who hides his radical agenda, ideology, and dubious associates and spouts speeches laden with platitudes like "Hope and "Change." The time is coming for the 527s to "swift boat" this poser.

Does any one wonder
if the drumbeat of victimization has anything to do with the terrible school system in Detroit and it's very high drop out rate. Blame the teachers if you will, but consider first the tide of democrat induced hopelessness.

Because of the democrats
who have ridiculed and smeared republican candidates, this morning's Detroit paper was full of quotes from blacks about now being truly proud as if nothing had ever been accomplished by blacks until this point in time. Has the time come that the democrat party will be able to celebrate accomplished blacks of either party? So much damage has been done over the past years by the drumbeat of victimization so now and only now can blacks be proud.

dsslm
Thank you for your post. I for one did not appreciate the scope of Obama's involvement in Kenya.

There is still so much about Obama that is generally unknown and you can be certain the MSM will not be airing any of it anytime soon.

Please continue to post comments about Obama and his Kenyan connections with his uncle/mentor/friend Odinga.

M Sederoff
You have nailed it, sir! On my blog at RightNation.us, I recently wrote that Hoosey is not really campaigning to be President of the United States. Rather, he is campaigning to be President of the Student Council. It's all a popularity contest because issues are, like, SO boring, y'know? Ohmigod! Barry is, like, really cute and, like, a great basketball player. Michelle is a perfect Homecoming Queen and valedictorian! Issues are, like, so, I dunno, y'know?

Audi is absolutely correct. We haven't seen the tip of the iceberg of racial hatred from the Obama camp. His supporters will burn this nation to the ground when he loses. And should he win, he will become the new Mugabe.

AudiR10
As much as I love Larry Elder, I think your analysis is more correct.

The people voting for Obama are not concerned with character. They are concerned with style. They want to be in the group that is doing the "cool, progressive" thing.

In fact, both of our presidential candidates are showing the world that it is the media, and not the people, who are really running the U.S.A.

It will never happen
#9 Charlie....what a shameful comment.

So is that really how black people feel about white people in a Barack presidency?

Forget about it happening. B. Hussien and his horrible wife will never make it to the White House.

King's Vision Has Shown Up!
Black People being judged on the content of their character instead of skin color is here folks, and has been coming for some time now.
I don't think Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned Black folks having a problem dealing with it, but we are.
Part of it stems from always, either looking over our shoulder's or swinging from them, thus erecting this cautious wall of mis-trust, which leads directly to our White man's guilt complex.
No matter what, perpetully blame the White man for all ill's. Remember we will always be the poster children for Civil Rights.
That being said self responsibility starts only after Reparations have been negotiated and settled on, and even then it's still his fault, not ours.
Just look how we handled the The Duke Lacrosse Team Scandal, The Jena Six and Tawanna Brawley incidents, we fingerpointed and scammed our way
into popular results. Getting to the truth was, well, it depends. Which truth? whose truth? let's negotiate for the "Truth".
Despite all the progress made and there is a ton it's perceived by a lot of us, especially liberal Democratic voting Blacks as not much really, because they supposedly "keep it real" whatever the hell that means, and they will harp on the Abner Louima and James Byrd incidents as proof positive that not much has changed. However, they get "real" defensive and make excuses when the Alabama murders of that young white couple who were carjacked, tortured and eventually murdered by Black protagonist is mentioned.
Anyway, out future will be much brighter when we get our children back on track by revamping their thought processes and exposing them to more Math and Science and less Hip-Hop.

Oh Come On
Dr. King is spinning in his grave so quickly that we could use the energy to run the entire District of Columbia if we could harness it.

*-- The average black woman with a college degree makes more money than the average white woman with a college degree.*

You know why that is, right? Listened to Mrs. Sista Souljah Obama lately? See what happens when a company can hire a Black Woman and get a TwoFer to up their Dont Loot And Burn Me Bro Points Total?

Should we actually elect this puppet and his angry racist wife, what it will show the world is that no matter what you do, if you can scream YOUARACIST! you can get your way because the adults are too frightened to say No.

If he does not get elected, he and his crowd will burn our country to the ground.

yes, Sir, we are showing the world that we, too, can be Zimbabwe.....

Black Americans
Great article Larry, its amazing that under Bush their home ownership is at an all time high yet no credit is given where credit is due.

Austin in Oklahoma

Thank You
Well said and much appreciated.

An old white guy.

Obama and Equality
We'll know that racism is truly dead and equality reigns in the US when Fitzgerald hands down indictments against Obama for his role in Chicago corruption, and he's forced to quit the Presidential race, even as a Republican would be.

Mr Elder says we're close to realizing
Doctor King's dream of men being judged on the content of their character and that the mobbed-up Marxist murtadd Muslim, B Hussein bin B Hussein bin Hussayn Obambi's victory over the lying, looting, thieving, mass-murdering recidivist "confirms it."

But it ain't so.

For if the content of his character (and never mind his razor-blade thin track record) had been measured, instead of his, the Arab-African would long long long ago have been laughed from the race!

As -- now that the recidivist and her co-serial-rapist "spouse" and organ-grinders' monkey kid are off the scene and a little attention will be focused, not Swift-Boat style but rather in the fashion of, say, the Spanish Armada -- he soon will be.

It is, as they say, Black and White!

I Await our Liberal Friends
Particularly, one I'm thinking of who used to visit and whine that there was ONLY ONE black senator ...

... and another two or three I can think of who always like to call the columnist a "self-hater" anytime they don't agree with the column ...

... plus there's always a handful who'll say that the columnist is simply telling lies in order to sell to a white conservative audience ...

These people have already made up their minds, and aren't about to let themselves be confused by facts; so I've pretty much given up trying.

I'm sure by tomorrow afternoon they'll have flooded the boards with all sorts of vitriol; there isn't much you can argue with against ad hominem.

Obama candidacy promoted Muslim Kenya

--Part 2 of 2 continued--

I'm glad I was able to go on a photographic safari of Kenya long ago before the increase in strident Islamists in Kenya.

Four years ago Kenya’s Christian ministers had to bring a lawsuit when they discovered Muslims had surreptitiously inserted shari’a law for Islamic courts into Kenya’s draft secular constitution.

Now that Odinga has been declared Kenya’s prime minister in the new power-sharing agreement with President Kibaki, one wonders what direction Kenya will take regarding Odinga’s Islamic intention. There will undoubtedly be further difficulty ahead for Kenya, a nation 80% Christian and 10% Muslim.

Newsweek has written erroneously that Raila Odinga is a Christian. Other sources call him an Anglican. It is clear to anyone reading the linked MOU that Odinga states he is a Muslim. Some questioned the veracity of the MOU but it has been confirmed it is a legal document signed by Odinga himself. Regardless of what Odinga once may have been, I believe he’s a Muslim, as are so many other Luos and those of Obama’s family in Africa. Ex-Muslim writer Aayan Hirsi Ali refers to them as such too.

Both Odinga and Obama, as Luos, have issues stemming from their strong desire to continue the legacy of their fathers. This matter has been strongly suppressed by the media regarding Kenya and Obama. He was far more involved with these issues than the press has indicated.

Obama candidacy promoted Muslim Kenya

Part 1 of 2

Outstanding statistics, Mr. Elder! Thank you for these.

Your question “What Does Obama’s Victory Mean?” is already clear to me although ignored by major media. It was Barack Obama’s candidacy that encouraged the U.S. to give money to Kenya in the recent chaos following its December presidential election of incumbent President Mwai Kibaki vs Muslim Raila Odinga. Obama requested Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s help in the matter.

I believe in the years ahead if Kenya becomes a Muslim nation, we’ll have Barack Obama’s influence in the 2007 Kenya presidential election matter to blame for that. If Obama hadn’t been running for president, it’s doubtful that America would have intervened so strongly in the matter, allowing Odinga to share power as Kenya’s prime minister.

Obama’s first cousin Raila Odinga is a self-declared Muslim and a Luo. He is the son of Barack Obama’s father’s sister. Obama met with Odinga during a 2006 African trip and appeared in a photo supporting him during some rallies for Odinga despite Obama’s US government funding for the trip. There appeared to be some corruption on both sides of the Odinga-Kibaki election in Kenya.

However, Raila Odinga has a signed Memorandum of Understanding with a Muslim group to turn Kenya into an Islamic nation if he won Kenya’s presidential election. The MOU calls for shari’a courts, Islamic education in primary schools, no Christian public religious meetings, creation of a Muslim province. After the Kenya presidential election several months ago, it was Muslim Odinga’s disgruntled supporters, Luo tribal members, who generated the murderous mob violence rampaging Kenya hacking people to death with machetes and burning down a church in Eldoret with Christians inside.

The MOU for an Islamic Kenya:

We will remember in November
and we WILL vote McCain

Obama cannot and will not win this election. He is an affirmative action candidate. He couldn't even win without his super delegates who, along with the media, reminded us of his ONLY qualification: that he is BLACK and will "make history."

Yet, all the whilst this radical sexism was going on: watch for yourselves:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcdnlNZg2iM

We WILL REMEMBER in NOVEMBER ! And we'll pull the lever for McCain.

JUST SAY "NO" to "O"

Right color, wrong values

A bumper sticker suggestion for the Republican campaign:

Obama: Right color,wrong values.

Treating People as Props to Prove a Poin
I also heard that guy on the radio and I just think it is so wrong how people play identity politics. He wants to use the most important job in the world as the forum for proving some kind of point? And what point? That he gives preference to someone who has a certain amount of melanin in his skin? Why can't he just judge people based on the contents of their character, rather than inconsequential things? There is nothing wrong with celebrating one's cultural or ethnic identity, but that has nothing to do with political leadership when it comes to the economy or foreign affairs. When a great candidate runs for office, I vote for him or her. Everything Larry Elder says resonates with me (and it would whether or not he were black), and I hope he considers running for office one day!

Content of Character?
Let's get real. If the thesis is blacks have incredible opportunities in America, I have no problem. However, if Barack Obama were 100% white, he would not be a serious contender for president. His ultra liberalism, inexperience, "Reverend" Wright connections, etc. would disqualify him if "content of character" were the measuring stick. He will be our next president and some, not all and maybe not most, of the explanation for this is the color of his skin. But heck, he is articulate even when saying nothing.

What do we need to prove?
Someone has said that NOW the world will see we are not racist. What crap. And who cares what the WORLD thinks? I agree with Larry Elder until he gets to the last sentence. Americans have bent over backwards to give blacks every chance to improve their lives. It still is and always will be an INDIVIDUAL endeavor. We can no more take credit for individual achievement than we should take any blame for individuals' failure...and it makes no difference what skin color they are wearing.

Race card trumps the sex card
Obamas victory confirms that many people who are voting on him are precisely voting for him because of the color of his skin. Obama is an opportunist and is riding the wave of accomplishments of numerous blacks who actual achieved something in their lives. In doing so he will set this country back because of his obvious disdain for white people, given his numeorus associations with racists like farrakhan wright and pflegler as well as his ties to terrorrists like william ayres.

No one could possibly be basing their vote for him on the "content of his character" since he has no character. He hates america and thinks this country needs him and only him to makes us "better". He has paraded to the fore his kenyan heritage while telling us that his grandmother was a "typical white person" while his kenyan Father bnnever lifted a finger towards his care. If you can dismiss the family who cared for you while championing the family that didnt , embrace racist anti american friends and spiritual advisors, while refusing to salute your flag or support your country in war are you really someone we could trust to run the country with americas best interests at heart?

Great Article Sooooo...
Why is Mrs. Obama proud of America for the first time? Why is Rev Wright and Fr Pfleger NOW not the men that BHO knew? Why do so many blacks scream racism? Could it be that they are still suckling from the teet of liberal Dems who need them to think that way?
From LBJ's "Great Society" to the present day this garbage about reparations and entitlements is poisoning a people that doesn't need any help. The only thing that is needed is a message of self-reliance. The soft racism that the Dems peddle is the real crime. "Without us giving you money you will fail". I guess that means that the Tuskegee Airmen couldn't fly an airplane either. Unless the Dems showed them how. It couldn't possibly be by their own intelligence. Not to a Democrat.
But somehow Conservatives are the enemy.

The glass ceiling
It also means the Democrats are more sexist than racist. (Just kidding; but the Dems and the MSM - redundant, I know - are going to call every non-Obama voter in November a racist.)

Hey feminists, the Democrat Party just told you to get back in the kitchen. Doesn't that infuriate you? Are you going to let them get away with that?
