Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

In his Big Speech defending his 20-year membership in a church headed by a racist, anti-Semitic, sexist, conspiracy-believing pastor, Democratic candidate Barack Obama says America needs a frank "talk" about race.

For crying out loud, we talk incessantly about race! Pick up a newspaper -- any newspaper -- or turn on cable news and wait a few minutes. Race -- usually something about how blacks feel, how blacks think, how blacks and whites see things differently, yada, blah, etc. -- comes up.

Obama's plea reminds me of one of my "talks" about race -- this one more than 30 years ago. Back in college, I dated a young lady whom today I would call a "victicrat."

One day she came back from her sociology class. "We discussed race today," she said cheerfully, "and boy, did they get an earful." She then proceeded to tell me how she attacked "the white boys" for slavery, Jim Crow and the "continued oppression of blacks."

When I called it unfair to condemn her classmates for oppressing blacks, she said, "That's what they said, too, but we let 'em have it."

I then said, "What's so amusing?"

"What do you mean?"

"Your smile. You sure look like you're having fun. Turn around. Look in the mirror."

She turned and looked in the mirror hanging on the wall. Her expression of joy even surprised her.

"You really like putting down white people," I continued. "What, is this some sort of payback for slavery?"

We argued into the night. I saw an America full of promise and hope, and she saw only barriers with little sign of improvement.

Obama's pastor, Jeremiah Wright, similarly seems downright joyful in attacking America, blaming the government for AIDS and drugs, and attributing the Islamofascist attacks of 9/11 to America's racism.

Wright believes that, in the year 2008, it remains hard out there for a black guy. So, too, do many members of the media, who called Obama's speech a "refreshing" call for a dialogue to deal with the "chasm" and "divide" between America's blacks and whites.

But consider the "talk" about race by former slave turned educator/author Booker T. Washington in his book "Up From Slavery" -- written in 1901, a mere three and a half decades after the end of slavery:

"I used to envy the white boy who had no obstacles placed in the way of his becoming a Congressman, Governor, Bishop, or President by reason of the accident of his birth or race. I used to picture the way that I would act under such circumstances; how I would begin at the bottom and keep rising until I reached the highest round of success.

"In later years, I confess that I do not envy the white boy as I once did. I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed. Looked at from this standpoint, I almost reach the conclusion that often the Negro boy's birth and connection with an unpopular race is an advantage, so far as real life is concerned. With few exceptions, the Negro youth must work harder and must perform his task even better than a white youth in order to secure recognition. But out of the hard and unusual struggle through which he is compelled to pass, he gets a strength, a confidence, that one misses whose pathway is comparatively smooth by reason of birth and race.

"From any point of view, I had rather be what I am, a member of the Negro race, than be able to claim membership with the most favoured of any other race. I have always been made sad when I have heard members of any race claiming rights and privileges, or certain badges of distinction, on the ground simply that they were members of this or that race, regardless of their own individual worth or attainments. I have been made to feel sad for such persons because I am conscious of the fact that mere connection with what is known as a race will not permanently carry an individual forward unless he has individual worth, and mere connection with what is regarded as an inferior race will not finally hold an individual back if he possesses intrinsic, individual merit. Every persecuted individual and race should get much consolation out of the great human law, which is universal and eternal, that merit, no matter under what skin found, is, in the long run, recognized and rewarded. This I have said here, not to call attention to myself as an individual, but to the race to which I am proud to belong."

American blacks live in a post-slavery, post-Jim Crow world, with a growing, thriving black middle class. We live in a country where, for the most part, hard work, focus, ability and some luck determine success. Why, then, the continued anger, negativity, and finger-pointing, in a country to which much of the world -- if it could -- would happily relocate?

So, let that talk begin.

Only fools . . .
. . . really believe that we have not made tremendous strides in achieving racial equality in the US; but, there is nothing to gain politically from saying that we're headed in the right direction.

If you can't play the race card, you have to actually persuade through ideas, logic, and reason. That's much too difficult. It's much easier to play to the fears and prejudices of the "oppressed."

A man's man
quote:
Booker T. Washington in his book "Up From Slavery" -- written in 1901, a mere three and a half decades after the end of slavery:

"I used to envy the white boy who had no obstacles placed in the way of his becoming a Congressman, Governor, Bishop, or President by reason of the accident of his birth or race.
------------

For this same reason other black men have won the admiration of the entire nation, men like Jackie Robinson.

But O Lord I am sick of the whinning over issues in the past that no Americans today are to blame for.

It has now come to sound like the squealing irritation of chalk on a blackboard.

The complaining comes across as nothing but nagging.
And who wants to hear nagging all the time.

Wright even if called a Christian is headed straight for hell himself.

Primary to the Mercy of God is Forgivness, and unless we forgive others their sins, God said He would not forgive us our own.
And all men sin or have sinned.
Besides, I never done anything to the old racist anyway to need his forgiveness.

One other thing bothers me
About all this race talk.
--------
quote:
One day she came back from her sociology class. "We discussed race today," she said cheerfully, "and boy, did they get an earful."
------

And not a single one of her classmates had anything to do with any of it.
I demand my civil rights too.
I am sick of being blamed for the sins of others, sins I had no say or control over, sick of it.

I am sick of blaming America for the sins of slave owners, which amounted to about 10 percent of the south.
I am sick of being blamed for a bunch of racist rednecks in the LEGAL PROFESSION who made the Jim Crow Laws.
I am sick of being blamed for blacks sitting at the back of the bus, wasn't up to me where any man sit.
I am sick of hearing about racism!
All of it coming from the racists themselves like Wright and Obama.

Education

It is too bad that our current monopoly of an educational system does not teach such greats as Booker T. Washington.

If every child, no matter the color, was taught such elevated thinking and philosophy, the dialogue concerning race might be much different.

The joy of victimhood
To paraphrase Dr. Daniels, indignation is one of the few human emotions that never lets you down.

A great article.
Few have read or remember reading the wise insight of Booker T. Washington. We need to be reminded of these things.

As for the incendiary sermons being preached by Rev. Wright, a reading of scripture warns us that our sins will not be forgiven if we do not forgive:

But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Mt. 6:15

James 3:13-15 tells us bitterness, envying and strife are evil:

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

As for the Rev. Wright's wish that the Lord would damn America, we need only look at Luke 9:54-56 to see what the Lord said when two disciples wanted to destroy a village because they would not receive Jesus.

And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.

Titus 3:10-11 says we should reject a heretic (a person who deviates from accepted doctrine):

A man that is an heretic after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.

Race Perspective
Booker T. Washington viewed the world "what can I accomplish with what I have where I am at".

Obama views the world "what should have been done with what others had where I wasn't".

Obama
Obama reminds me of this Douglas Adams quote.

"He attacked everything in life with a mix of extraordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which."

Integrity 1
Great post. Spot on.

Slight of hand
Keep in mind, Obama issuing a decree for a talk about race was nothing more than deflecting the issue at hand. 20 years of relationship with a racist, bigot, anti-American. His friend, mentor and pastor Rev. Wright.

This was Obama's way of changing the dialogue.

And of course as guilt-riddled white people who enslaved blacks, we are absolutely obliged to engage in this debate and allow Obama to set whatever perameters he deems appropriate.

What Obama did, was play the biggest race card in the race for President. Pure and simple. He has since not had to answer which statements from Wright he doesn't agree with. He has since not had to answer for his poor judgment. He has since not shared his own perspective on the many issues Wright talked about.

So playing the race card was very effective. But it is, and always has been, cheap politics.

And after Booker T. Washington
there are many other Black statesmen and women who could be added to the curriculum -- BUT NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE BLACK. We need to stop identify everyone by race. Let us study philosophers and successful businessmen in books without pictures.

One of the things I like best about the Internet is that it makes dialogu possible without the necessity to pre-judge and pigeonhole by sex, race, looks, weight, size of boobies or length of dreadlocks. Steven (my youngest) enjoyed the opportunity to talk physics with university students and scientists when he was 13 years old, men who would have brushed him off if they had seen him before engaging him.

Let the dialogue begin in a colour-free environment. And for once in their pitiful lives, let the Black folks SHUT UP AND LET SOMEONE ELSE TALK.

Another great article
This is a great article by Larry Elder. Thanks, Larry!

Another article on the same topic that's worth reading is on TH's main page. Scroll down till you get to the Media and Culture section, and click on the article "From The Desk Of A Typical White Person."

It's a great article as well, and I recommend it to all.

By their fruits, ye shall know them....
Great posts, talent and integrity. The dhimmicrats have no one to blame for this mess but themselves. When you sow hatred, you reap a bitter harvest.

I've spoken to far too many black people who buy into Wright's hateful rhetoric. After listening to a black immigrant from Trinidad spew this nonsense at a truck stop in Troutdale, OR, I looked him straight in the eye and told him his beliefs made me fear for my country and promised to pray for him to see the truth. He changed the subject.

Who would stay five minutes in a country in which you had so little trust, or was actually guilty of these phony claims and wild conspiracies? I'll tell you who - those who want to get even and punish.

Listen to Michelle's words, or anyone close to BHO, Words have meaning and if they get the power, more so than the idiots already running Congress, the rest of us are going to pay, and pay, and pay.

What is really scary is that my Senator from AZ, IS NO BETTER! I was boiling after listening to excerpts from his speech yesterday. Close Gitmo? Surrender our sovereignty to others? What a revengeful, egomaniacal GOOF he is!

God save us...

Oakley
"If every child, no matter the color, was taught such elevated thinking and philosophy, the dialogue concerning race might be much different."

Not only the dialogue concerning race, but our WHOLE COUNTRY would be much different. Our educational system is at the crux of what is wrong with America. The Left has used the educational system in this country to turn our children's brains into mush. They can't think for themselves and thus fall prey to whatever lies are fed to them. This is no accident.

A lot of people who complain about the NEA and their strangle hold on our children seem to think it is all about money. I don't agree. I think the Socialists in this country have had an orchestrated, long-term goal of destroying America from within, and they use our educational system to do it. You can’t get control of people who are intelligent and educated in the methods of evaluation. By putting up roadblocks to intelligence and the ability to evaluate different view points, our children become sitting ducks for Marxist thinking.

“Who owns the youth owns the future!”…Karl Marx

One of the best on the topic
Mr. Elder provides clarity on the topic. Many groups could cry "preference" and "oppression" in this wonderful land of ours. Rather most choose to fight the good fight everyday and make a difference rather than bemoan the differences that make us both unique and valuable.
Mr. Obama is a man of accomplishment. But what are those accomplishments? And, what value are those accomplishments to us as a nation? Viewed from afar his words, those of his spouse and followers, and his campaign workers identify his rhetoric for the thin gruel it is.

Yet another EXCELLENT column.

Thank you again, Mr. Elder.

Elder's Anecdote
Thanks, Mr. Elder. You restored my faith that commonsense and intelligence is possible for everyone regardless of faith, creed, color or culture.

elder's problem
it is evident that elder thinks that persons should achieve based on their ability and drive rather than relying on the handouts and entitlement advocated by the dims. Such heresy from a black man. It seems that any discussion that involves race must always include that blacks succeeded inspite of the disadvantage of their accidental birth into black family while those lucky enough to be born white are given unfair advantage merely because they are white. It is shocking to hear that people should be expected to achieve on their own abilities and that they can achieve on their own abilities without be given preferential treatment due to other factos, primarily based on skin color

Race Dialogue
Of all the postings I've read this morning, none is as succinct as OAKLEY's.

Sorry, but we cannot...
... have a national dialogue about race without inviting racists. Otherwise, the "dialogue" is only a monologue.

Mr. Larry Elder and America's promise
America belongs to those who do, not those who whine.
America belongs to those who seek, not those who wait for handouts.
America belongs to those who accept responsibility, not those who use excuses.
The story of America is the story of those who act, not the story of those who passively wait for someone else to do for them.
Obama doesn’t need to lead us through a “sermon” on race.
We “typical white people” know history, and understand that racial equality is an issue about which we have to take a proactive stand, but without racial guilt.
If Obama wants to cash in on slavery and oppression then he must tell the whole story: free Blacks owned slaves. Africans owned other African slaves. Name the people: they sold their own into slavery. Children and women are still sold into sexual slavery and labor slavery. Slavery is the guilt of ALL people.
Blacks are not innocent of that immoral tragedy.
Slavery was/is everywhere - white people didn't invent it.
Obama’s incomplete discussion of it is unworthy of a candidate who self-presents as above us all.
What little institutional racism there is - and not just against Blacks - exists in airless pockets where public scrutiny has not yet found it. When it's found, it's crushed as it should be.
Obama and his wife Michelle have done NOTHING for the United States except take. I’m sick of listening to Mr. Hopeless Oblama deride this great nation, urge the sense of victim hood and cannot, urge resentment and helplessness, stoke racism and us/them, denigrate the compassion and giving that is at the heart of America and Americans.
This is the nation of can, but only if you do.
The Obamas are spoiled, resentful, nasty elitists.
American people will not tolerate, will not support, will not be suckered by Oblama emptiness and hatred.
We know what hope is, and it isn't Obama and his socialist, self-centered, self-serving agenda.

Mr.Elder
I can honestly say,I have no memory of ever liking you. However, after reading your article, I suggest, that you be the "Moderator" of the RACE discussion. Not Mr.Obama,he helped to bring the subject up!No White Presidential Candidate has been thought of in these terms.Fairness suggest, that neither should Mr.Obama.BTW was truely a man before his time and may have been superior to, the "Harvard" educated Dubois. But,sadness of today is embedded in fact,we are still discussing the sam circumstance.Talking; is "WORDS" looking for "ACTION".Until the word becomes married to action, there will be no progress.CAN A BLACK MAN BE PRESIDENT?

There will always be
racism in this country, there is no way we will ever eliminate it entirely. There will always be white people who hate blacks, for no reason other than the fact that they are black.

But that type of racism has steadily decreased during my lifetime. The racism that has been increasing is the type preached by Wright: it is nothing more than an everlasting claim of victimhood. As long as blacks see themselves as victims, there is no expectation of success. The questionable culture of the ghetto doesn't come into play, it's all the white man's fault.

Walter Williams has a formula for success that would doubtless work for any race: stay in school, get a job, avoid drugs and trouble with the law, and don't have any children until you're married and can afford them. Ghetto culture defies every last one of these rules, but somehow, in Wright's mind, it's my fault. Screw him and his #1 apologist, Obama.

Great Article!
Great article, Mr. Elder. This is an American discussion I am proud to be part of. And I am thankful for great Americans like Booker T. Washington!

irony
I'm always intrigued when a wealthy, successful black man screeches about the white man's plan to keep blacks in poverty...

How many Mercedes' do you think Rev. Wright owns? Obama himself had over a million dollars in income last year. It's high time for whitey to stop harassing these poor individuals!

killer
Why must it be a Black man? Why not decide on the best person for president and let their race and gender become secondary?

I have little understanding of the progressive mindset, they claim to be completely tolerant and unbiased then demand a specific out come in the same breath.

Mr. Elder...
...uses possibly the best example in Booker T Washington, a man who judged success in a person as not simply what you became in life but in how you went about your life.

Killer
To answer your question.

Sure a black man can be president, but only if he is Colin Powell, Michael Steele, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Bill Cosby or some other conservative black man.

Jesse jackson, Al Sharpton and B, Hussein Obama are too left leaning and into victim hood to be any good.

I know lots of good, hard working, deserving black people where I work and would vote for almost any of them.

It is the politics that count, not the color of the skin.

And in my opinion, there is no white or black, just differing shades of brown.

rich white men
Do you suppose he meant people like Ted Kennedy,John Kerry,Jay Rockefeller, and Charles Schumer?

killer: "Typical racist!"

leroy is absolutely right.. "Why not decide on the best person for president and let their race and gender become secondary?"

But the typical racists just don't "get it."

And, of course, the typical racists can't see that of course, if an African-American can become a Supreme Court Justice, yes of course, an African-American can become pres.

P.S. No surprise that killer doesn't like Mr. Elder. killer probably doesn't like any African-American who is more intelligent and accomplished than he... and Mr. Elder clearly fits both categories.

As always...
Mr. Elder heralds self-reliance and an individual can-do attitude that can propel anyone -- white, black, Asian, purple -- into a life and career which is self-sustaining, contributing to society and VOID of the need for nanny state interference.

THIS idea is not only abhorant to liberals, it is also as foreign as a language they don't know. And the way liberals get votes from any minority group is to incessantly preach victimhood and the need for nanny-government support. Which of course lends a healthy helping hand to unceasing racism in this country.

There are THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of blacks, Chinese, Latinos, Koreans, whites and others now productively working in a variety of walks of life, thanks to THEIR OWN perseverence and dedication to integrity and hard work.

Slavery ended more than 100 years ago. It's time for everyone to get over it and stand up and be his or her own person in a competitive but rewarding world.

The 'Luck' of a white man
I was lucky...
I started working at age 13
Camper boot installation, pizza place, grocery store

I was lucky...
I graduated High School

I was lucky...
I paid my own way through college

I was lucky...
I was disabled at work
I took on a paper route at age 28 so I could make my house payment

I was lucky...
I drove an '83 Chevy S-10 for 15 years

I was lucky...
I worked three jobs so my wife could stay home with the kids

I was lucky...
I left a dead end job for an opportunity with a different company

I was lucky...
I worked overtime w/o pay b/c I am salaried

I was lucky...
I took on challenging projects others would not

I was lucky...
I moved my family from SoCal in 2001, right before the housing boom - previous home value doubled in 4 years, is still 2.5x what I sold it for.

I was lucky...
I sold 80 acres w/ a 2 BR house to buy 10 acres w/ a 6 BR house so my kids would have somewhere to invite their friends over.

I was lucky...
I completed by Bachelor's degree over the course of 5 years while maintaining a full time job with a 3.57 GPA

Man, I sure hope my luck holds up...

I'm opressed
I'm a white basketball player. Nobody thinks I can play because I am white. If I were black I would be in the NBA making millions. Will the government give me welfare checks with lots of zeroes please?

Tadpole: YUP! I think you're just what

Mr. Elder is talking about....

Not only impressive, but probably one of the BEST posts I've read in a very long time....

And, btw, Mrs. Tadpole and the Tadpole children are very fortunate...

(But wait. You're going to pounded by the likes of killer, etc. They just can't stand people who have accomplished anything on their own.)

Talk
Maybe what we really need is to STOP talking about race.

Racism or not?
Whites who declare they will not vote for Obama because he's black are vilified as racists -- and they are.

Blacks who declare they will vote for Obama because he's black are given a free pass on the issue of racism -- but they are racists too.

Any act undertaken for or against another person based on their race is racism, and it's never excusable or acceptable, no matter how hard some people try to spin it.

I would vote to elect Obama President...
....If that would bring an end to this "chasm" talk.

I would vote for reparations, if that would end the targeted assistance programs, numerical goals, and set-asides.

Unfortunately, my gut tells me this would be yet another round of Danegeld. And you know what happens to the Dane once we've paid.

Booker T. Washington represents the standard for self-aware intelligent men capable of doing great things for all despite any hurdle.

A good biography of his life should be mandatory education for all children.

Anne
Thanks for the kind words - we are blessed

"That talk" can't begin!
Until the safety net of artificial advantage is removed. There exists a very real "known" thing in the black community. That "known" is: Ultimately, whitey's at fault! No matter how poorly or irresponsibly I act, I (as a black person) am not to blame. It's racism and the taint of it in society that caused me to behave that way.
Why would any black ever want to relenquish that universal "out?" Every and anything can be lain at the foot of racism/bigotry in society.

Has anyone noticed
that the vast majority of people that have realized success in their lives have done so without a special government program?

Killer,you smooth talker!

You don't have to worry about being blamed for the actions of people your ancestors knew. Dr. Williams has given us a pardon:
------
However, I went to a source way above Walter Williams to find a pardon for my sins.

Still looking to that same source to overcome new ones that are all around us today.

Course I never had to repent for any racism anyway, have never hated any man over his skin tone.

I never had to repent over slavery either, never owned any, I will let the British Crown repent for that in America, and the Spaniards in South America and the Carribean.
I will let the merchants who bought and sold men repent for their own sins and I will repent for mine.
I will leave the racist Wright with the Lord over all, to teach him, he is going to reap his own hate, and if he wants to see hate disappear, he can begin getting it out of his own heart and mind.

The abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks, so yes we can know what is in a man's heart.

There is no path to peace
That comes through accusations.
Accusations bring nothing but contentious arguments.
Stirs up anger and hatreds.
Strife and wars.
Accusations are the tool of the states men of hatred.
They must rid their own hearts of hate before they can rid others of theirs.
It that teaching of Jesus Christ.
Get the LOG out of your own eye before trying to get a SLIVER out of your brothers.

Men like Wright or Obama need to understand how they both are insignificant pizz ants in the Universe, and the Laws of Nature given to all of us come from the true Judge, Jesus Christ.
And instead of promoting their own selves, need to understand what pizz ants both are in the scheme of things.

Barack Obama is not Jeremiah Wright Jr.
Barack Obama is not Jeremiah Wright Jr. and neither of them is Larry Elder. These are 3 different men who have each had their own unique life experience. In 1983 Barack Obama graduated from Columbia University and while still in his mid twenties began working as a community organizer on the south side of Chicago. Having grown up without a father and in a non religious environment it was then that Barack Obama began attending Trinity United Church of Christ and met the pastor of the church, Rev. Wright, a black man 20 years his senior, who became influential in his life and became part of his “family”, his “adopted uncle”, a man who helped Barack Obama become a Christian believer and later married Barack and Michelle Obama and eventually baptized each of their 2 children.
Barack Obama has strongly denounced Wright's hyperbolic, 1960s style radical rhetoric that Wright has used in a few of his sermons that is based on Wright's anger and bitterness which Obama understands but doesn't share. But Barack Obama has refused to disown his "adopted uncle" simply for political expediency even though he very much disagrees with him.
Barack Obama doesn’t whine or consider himself a victim. He is a biracial man of superior intelligence and strong character who has succeeded on his own merits and happens to have an “adopted uncle” who has done a lot of good for a lot of people for many years but unfortunately also has some over the top anger and bitterness left over from the 1960s which Barack Obama and most of the rest of us don’t share. But before you completely bury Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. with your superior knowledge and righteous indignation you might want to first double check and see if you are a black man of about his age who has lived a life similar to his.

So Killer...
For America to prove she is not racist Mr. Obama must be elected president.

In order for him to be elected president Americans must be compelled to vote for him.

The only reason Americans must feel compelled to vote for him is on the basis of his race.

Therefore, for America to become enlightened, it must use race and biggotry.

You must be a liberal, excuse me, a progressive.

Attributing 9/11 attacks to US racism
Classic liberal mistake number one: assuming that our enemies hate America for the same reasons that liberals hate America.

When it comes to radical Islam, they hate us because of the things liberals love most: sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

Ms.Katy
You almost "GOT ME".I will continue to ask, until my answer is given.Truth, is what I am asking for and I am willing to wait,I have TIME!!!

Killer
I am not voting for Obama.

See above post.

When a qualified person of color runs, and I agree with his politics, I will vote for him.

Not Obama. He is neither qualified nor holds political views consistent with my world view.

Wow. Where are the attacks on Booker?
So many great posts here and not one attack on Booker? Why not? Obviously his words mane sense to many of you here. Truth rules.

I wonder what the percent of the population holds opposite views and they get the time of day. Oh, wait, the Dem party is full of them and they own/control far to many media outlets.

Great job Larry.

Killer
"CAN A BLACK MAN BE PRESIDENT?"

Is this the question, killer. Or will you just keep posting and whining.

The answer to the above is Yup.

It's Obama I don't want.

Michael Steele would suit me just fine.

HT
Well "GD",that's what I like. You may say ANYTHING, to me,just make sure, it is TRUE.I must say "THANK YOU"...HT!

OK Sen. Obama, Let's have a race talk.
I would like to thank Mr. Elder for this article with colorful thoughts and expressions. Quotations from black writer, Booker T. Wahington of 1901 really shed so much lights that our black compatriots should learn from. I am Asian American, and I can see that most of Asian Americans would fit right in with Mr. Wahington's writings. In my 33 years as American, I have never had or feel any discrimination in any shape or form from my other Americans, blacks, whites, or otherwise. Thank you again Mr. Elder, and thank you so much, Mr. Booker T. Washington. In 1901, you were way ahead of your time.Like you said,Mr. Elder, we all should really look into the mirror to see ourselves, as All Americans, and not just as black, white or otherwise.

Booker T Wahington?
Where are the posts calling BTW a sell out, oreo and a black trying to act white? How does BO explain a black man growing up right after the civil war not having a rabid hatred of whites?

I might be a typical white when I would prefer to judge people on their actions and accomplishments and not their skin tone. I am not afraid when I see a black man coming down the street. Now a bunch of young men with tatoos and baggy pants down around their knees is another story. I don't care what color they are I am alittle on edge. Maybe getting carjacked by one of these scumbags has something to do with it!

By the way the carjacker's skin tone and mine were pretty much the same.

Hard Thought......
Jesse jackson, Al Sharpton and B, Hussein Obama are too left leaning and into victim hood to be any good.

Amen to that. It is also the reason why they have the following and are in the public spotlight.....just keep up the racist rhetoric, perverted scare tactics and the poor mistreated mentality. After so many years of these constant glib messages, it's no wonder the African Americans have this lemming mentality.

No lover to truth will buy this

Barack Obama is not Jeremiah Wright Jr.
--------

Being a Church goer myself, I know what a lie this is.

The people of a congregation are subjects to the same spirit of the man they look to.

Wright is pointing no man to Jesus Christ, he is pointing his finger to look for hate and racism, all the while he is filled with both.

Obama is just like him.
The only difference is Obama must hide his own racist views cause he knows he cannot be elected if he ever tells America what he is really all about.
Division and revenge, its all men like Wright preach and Obama loves or he would not stay in such a bigoted atmosphere for 20 years.

All words are spirit, and the spirit of the man chooses his words, showing all what spirit the man himself is of, by the words of his own mouth.
Obama must use deceit to hide his true beliefs for his very ambitious desire for self promotion.
And is a pizz ant as we all are in God's Universe.

Another Great Article By The Sage!
Excellent! Great quote from Booker T. Washington.

We all have accidents of birth that can limit our acheivements. We can be its victim and cry out for reparations like Obama bemoans or we can be its master and boast accomplishments well earned as Dr. Washington praises.

It's About Reparations - Stupid!
Obama is from the redistribution-of-wealth (socialist) wing of the democrat party. Much of his appeal is the implied promise to finally wrest reparations out of the government. Apparently, his constituency fails to understand exactly where that money comes from.

Case in point. I was having a discussion with a black coworker (I am mostly of Celtic extraction), and I asked him how is it that blacks seem drawn to the democrats, whose track record on creating an environment for entrepreneurship was not exactly sterling (we had just been discussing successful self-made black businessmen). Without hesitation he said that the blacks were promised 40 acres and a mule sometime ago, and they intended to collect. I happened to have my checkbook on me at the time, so I took it out and asked what my piece of the action was so that I could settle up directly with him. Again without hesitation, he said no, the government owed him, not me. I then asked him where did he think the government was going to get this money. He was stumped for the moment and then figured they'd just print it.

This person is not a stupid man; he is a very successful salesman, but he has some kind of disconnect between the government spending money and where that money originates. I suspect this is not an isolated incidence. I also suspect Obama knows the difference but sees an angle that may help get him elected, so he's standing up to the man. I suspect his explanation for the Wright situation is playing well among his core constituency. He's going to get his people their just desserts. And the guilt-ridden white progressives are going to help him make it happen.

Isn't there more than just slavery?
I normally disagree with this guy but I love his quoting of Booker T. Washington. I agree that blacks do tend use slavery as a crutch but I find it hard for them not to when you look at history books in our schools blacks are only mentioned for slavery, oppression and the civil rights movement. I would love to know more about African-Americans in some other light than just slaves and those in the civil rights movement. Surely they have more history than that right???

Philosophy Not Race Determines Leader
Killer asks, "CAN A BLACK MAN BE PRESIDENT?"

Absolutely! Republican, of course.

Democrats are mostly "victocrats", as Mr. Elder often says, looking for handouts. You can spot a Democrat candidate as the one that believes in buying votes: free healthcare, free education, free services, affirmative action, guiltless abortions, tax over-acheivers and reward under-acheivers, chicken-in-every-pot ..... etc.

Republicans are so boring. They offer nothing. Smaller Government, strong defense and less meddling in your life. Mr. Obama says of McCain's response to the sub-prime mortgage crisis is no response. Mr. Obama proposes that the borrowers that gambled and lost should be somehow rewarded or mended for their efforts. Mr. McCain, with a typical Conservative response, says that gamblers should live with their losses and the Market is correcting accordingly.

There is a difference, and, most Americans agree with Mr. McCain's position.

There will be a black president. It just won't be this one. He is firmly on the wrong side of what America wants or needs. When it comes to the Presidency, America rarely, if ever, votes for the candidate that promises something for nothing. America is smarter than that.

FUNNY
It has been a rough day. A man dies and goes to heaven, where he hears constant laughter. At some point he realizes, that Heaven is separated;America,Brazil,China, etc. His curiosity is being aroused, which leads him to find the source of the laughter.A guide show him the source;an old movie. The movie shows an American preparing for a trip.A knock on the door occurs, thinking it a CAB,he opens the door.It is death, luggage not allowed. You have NOTHING and need LESS...

to those who slander Obama
I have just finished reading a biography of Nelson Mandela and it once again brings to mind
the very real fact that on this earth we do not
all stand in equal footing.

Occasionally you find a great man who has the
intellect, the charisma, the power, the inner
strength, and the luck to be able to rise above
the crowd and achieve great things either for
themselves and/or others. Most of us have to
settle for the much more ordinary. We are who
we are. We can waste our gifts or use them, but
in the end we are not going to shake the world.

To assume that the ordinary person can automatically rise above what has gone before,
what is presented to him in the way of attitudes
and opportunity (or lack thereof) is not fair,
is often not possible, and is essentially a
reason to do what you want to do, which is
put it all on the back on the disadvantaged.

Obama is no more a racist than I am - which is
to say that neither he nor I nor anyone person other than Steven Colbert is completely not racist. To suggest that Obama is setting out to
intentionally divide this country, to sell out
to the enemy, or any of those other things that
he is blamed for is SLANDER of the worst kind.

I do not plan to vote for Obama. Hillary has my
vote whether she is on the ballot or not. But
I would love to see him as her vice president,
and I am not going to cry if he is our next
president.

God Bless - and Help - America.

Some perspective
There are some 'roots' (no pun intended) to why many in the black community reject Booker T Washington. He is not always held up as a hero to blacks.

Lorraine Hansberry's seminal work A Raisin in the Sun, contains an interesting exchange between the neighbor (Mrs. Johnson) and Mama.

Johnson: The Youngers is too much for me! You sure one proud-acting bunch of colored folks. Well, I always thinks like Booker T. Washington said that time - "Education has spoiled many a good plow hand" -

Mama: Is that what old Booker T. said?

Johnson: He sure did.

Mama: Well, it sounds just like him. (a beat. With flavor) The fool.

A Raisin in the Sun was written in the early 1950s. When I directed this show, the research into BTW that supported this attitude from Mama that I found seemed to be that he supported segretation and believed in "separate but equal"

That is counter to the theme of Hansberry's play.

I'm not taking a side here, just saying that Booker T. Washington is not universally liked and accepted by the black community.

A possible explanation
Why do many American blacks reflexively support the Democorats? Here's a possible explanation. First, I think many blacks have a very deep-seated fear (and they would say they had ample reason to fear) that, apart from the power of the federal government, most white Americans would restore the apparatus of racism and discrimination. If there could be a national referendum conducted among white Americans, in other words, the condition of blacks would revert back to what it was in the South in the 1950s. From this premise, a black might well conclude that all of the 'opportunities' for success and all of the protections given by laws and policies are in place simply because liberal Democrts happened to have control of the power of the government. If this situation changes, everything is up for grabs.

Maybe I'm wrong in my speculation, but give it some thought.

Gestell
How stupid would they have to be to believe THAT load of horse puckey?

Poor Whites on Welfare/Entitlements
are never mentioned by repubs/cons in these discussions on race, handouts, victimization and free stuff, even though they are the predominant users of these entitlement programs, nor are they subjected to the harsh criticisms of the right wing. One has to wonder why this phenomenon is such.

Left Angle -- Phenomenon.
Yes, it is true that whites outnumber blacks on the welfare roles, but only in absolute numbers. As a percentage of the population, it so happens that blacks out-percent whites.

A consistent conservative is against ALL of these. Including so-called "corporate welfare" where, for example, multi-million dollar companies are paid not to grow food, or are subsidized with millions of gallons of irrigation water that they pay next to nothing for.

But remember, those topics don't always come up in these forums. We talk about the column, not ALL of the other problems that exist. Or at least, that's what we should do, even though we do get off on tangents a lot.

Left Angle Wonders Why Blacks?
Left Angle offers, "Poor Whites on Welfare/Entitlements are never mentioned by repubs/cons in these discussions on race, handouts, victimization and free stuff, even though they are the predominant users of these entitlement programs, nor are they subjected to the harsh criticisms of the right wing. One has to wonder why this phenomenon is such."

Possibly because poor-white-trash do not blame their situation on their race.

Does the Left always try to connect-the-dots so randomly, in such silly fashion, or are you just special?

Left Angle
You have been informed several times about the difference in the population ratio between blacks and whites in this country! How long will it take for that to register in your brain? What is yor problem?

Many of these whites who are on welfare have probably been displaced in their jobs by affirmative action programs. Think about that for a few minutes.Although it may take longer for you.

To Killer, a Plea
Killer,

Sometimes I agree with what you post. More often I think you are a, well, I disagree with what you post.

But please, that long bar at the bottom of your keyboard, if you press it a space will appear between punctuation the word that follows. The space bar -- it can be your friend.

Left Angle...
...the criticism of welfare abuse by the Right is generally railed upon by people much like you as "code" talk against minorities. So even when people on the Right speak of reducing welfare costs by reducing fraud, with no mention to race what-so-ever, invariably a "progressive", such as yourself, will rise up screaming "Racists" when race was never an issue.

As you say, one does have to wonder over this phenonmenon.

Gestell's Possible Explanation
I think this just illustrates what Milton Friedman termed the "Tyranny of the Status Quo."

We, all of us, have become acclimated to the way things are. So it's difficult to imagine civilized life working correctly in any other way.

So we see these same sorts of arguments all the time for all sorts of topics. If we repeal drug laws, won't everybody get hooked? If we get rid of welfare, won't everybody starve? If we bring the troops home, won't the terrorists attack? If we end gun control, won't everybody shoot everybody?

If we end discrimination laws, won't all the companies fire all their black employees and replace them with whites?

Answers to those questions can be complex of course, but the simple answer is, "No."

6 million whites on welfare
is acceptable to right wing conservatives because its in line with the ratio to their population where it isnt with blacks and hispanics even thought its the same "handouts and free stuff" you condemn them for?

hmmm very interesting...

Gestell...........A probable explanation
The "fear" that the blacks feel has been perpetually sewn into their psyche is mostly for those who wish to use them for their own devices....power, fame, money, etc. As a European/American, American Indian Caucasian, I married a lady of Asian decent and as a consequence, have many Asian friends. We also have several friends that are Latin American. Now, you have to remember that their decendents were not immune to some of the misguided use and treatments that went on during the same periods of time that the African Americans endured. However, here's the BIG differences. They do not have this, "I'm automatically entitled", to gov't handouts. They have the mindset, that if you work hard, abide by our civic laws, have strong moral and family values, strive to get a good education, ie: take advantage of the "opportunities", that you can live the "American Dream". The majority of these friends conclude that the blacks are doing a great diservice to themselves and their race by their current mentality. And by keeping that mantra that the likes of Rev. Wright expounds, they will never rise above what they are able to achieve. Of course, there are the exceptions......Colin Powell, Bill Cosby, Condolesa Rice, and MLK. I'm sure that the late, great Reverand is just rolling over & over in his grave about what has recently been going on!!!! My family and friends just wish for the sake of the blacks and America, just "get over it", and move on. After all, they did.

Left Angle
See my 2:30 pm post.

leroy there is no code...
to it. in the mind of a conservative republican, when the words "welfare, entitlement& handouts" are brought up they are talking about minorities,
without question, particularly blacks and hispanics whom they deem inferior to begin with.

Katy, you're spot on! killer just didn't

LIKE the answers he got!

Why didn't he like those answers? Simply because they didn't fit his racist, bigoted agenda.

"CAN A BLACK MAN BE PRESIDENT?" Well, how about this?

* * * * * * Mr. Larry Elder for president!* * * * *

Most likely brighter than BHO, and every bit as qualified. But here's the thing. I would NOT vote for Mr. Elder because he's an African-American. I've vote for Mr. Elder because I agree with his ideology.

Now, the question is, would killer vote for Mr. Elder?

So Larry, was that nasty little girl

Hey, it's good company---myself humbly inserted into that group!!!!

jmitch asks why there isn't more
than just slavery discussed in our history books in regards to blacks. I have heard a number of prominent conservatives deplore this sorry condition in our history books. They think the concept of "Black History Month" is an insult to blacks. Conservative thinkers have proposed that our history books offer much more content regarding the contributions blacks have provided to society. It should be an ongoing acedemic process woven into the curriculum at all levels of learning.
Oh wait! Such a process might elevate the discussion and deemphasize slavery and black oppression. We certainly can't have that element included when having a frank talk about race, can we? Let's just pretend that the screamers, haters and race baiters are the only ones who have something to contribute to the discussion. That way, we will continue our downward spriral into the abyss.
Which is exactly where the above mentioned people want the discussion to go, otherwise those types will become irrelevant and invisible.

Left Angle...
...thank you for at least confirming the progressive thought process for me. It is only the liberals that I hear who automatically associate welfare programs with racial minorities.

Left Angle is Obtuse
He couldn't contribute anything substantial to the discussion on race, so he threw out his often repeated "White Welfare, Entitlement" diatribe that conservatives like to ignore, as he contends. In spite of the fact that he has been roundly contradicted with facts and figures, he persists in his boring, repetitious rant. It must be his only form of entertainment, so let's let him have his fun and not bother to contradict his ridiculous statements. Let's continue to elevate this very interesting discussion about race and maybe we can actually accomplish something.

Many have given it thought

------
If the facts were allowed into the seeking of answers,it would erase imaginary circumstances that produce such fears.

Martin Luther King is the best example.
He fought the real racism institutionalized by the Jim Crow Laws of a few southern States.
Not of America, just a few States had them.

90 percent of the States never have had Jim Crow Laws.
And never intend to have any.

The past is dead, but more young black men are dying today at the hands of their own people than the KKK ever killed or could have.

This is the strangest thing bout this to me.
Recently read about a young black man in LA show down due to a question as to what gang he belonged and he did not belong to any gang, yet shot down for less cause than the KKK killed anyone.

So the KKK killed over skin color and the blacks kill one another over clothing color and is not even a worry?

That is madness, insanity to not fear where the real murdering is going on to fight demons in ones own head.

1 - Let’s not talk about race…
Let’s not talk about race, this is not a race problem it’s a Democrat problem. If we allow the Democrats to define the terms of the dialogue we will all be told to shut up, because they shame everybody into being racist, sexist, homophobes. This is a Democrat problem. Every day you listen to Democrats all you hear is the contempt in their voice for ‘the rich’ and ‘the powerful.’ Whether it’s from people who have lost their religion like George Soros. Or whether it’s from white Liberation theology, like Tony Campolo, Bill Clinton’s pastor, who says God is against the rich and powerful, and for the poor and oppressed. Or whether it’s from Blacks like Obama’s tribe who say God is against the whites because they are rich and powerful and for the blacks because they are poor and oppressed. It’s a Democrat problem. It’s anti-war activists who say Al Qaeda was not in Iraq before we invaded, we provoked them. We must have a dialogue with everybody. Who say no blood for oil. It’s the opposition to the death penalty. It’s accusing our police of brutality. It’s opposing your right to carry. It’s complaining about Exxon’s profits. It’s separation of church and state, It’s about you can’t impose your religion and morality on us. It’s feminists who say women in the US have always been oppressed. It’s psychologists who blame spanking for children’s mental health problems, and are the guardians of self esteem. It does not come out of their Christianity. The Catholic Church does not accept liberation theology, and has been fighting it everywhere in the world, over the past century. They hate the Vatican’s wealth and power.

2 - Let’s not talk about race…
It’s an attack on and contempt for everything the US used to be, by a despair subculture. It’s intentionally confused with compassion, but it’s government force of taxation rather than private sector voluntary giving. It’s intentionally confused with freedom, but it’s really anarchy. It results in street gangs. It’s a Democrat problem of losing their religion and replacing it with Marxism, which is the demand for equality of wealth. It is cultural Marxism, which is the demand for equality of powerful. Every time you listen to what the democrats say, it’s about having contempt for the rich and powerful, and caring for the poor and oppressed. It is about instituting government plans to care about the poor and empowering the oppressed. Nobody has the right to tell you what to do. It is a despair subculture, which wants to change everything about the US. As long as everybody uses vague terms like Democrat and Republican, left and right, progressive, liberal and conservative, what they really are will never become part of the discussion. Everywhere they are in power in the US the highest number of people are leaving, and they blame shift it to ‘the man.’ It’s Robin Hood on steroids. They are Marxists and Cultural Marxists. I really don’t think my kid’s generation will ever have a clue of what this country was back in the day. To them, that’s a good thing.

Liberal perspective
All liberal newspapers, including the New York Times, always identify minorities, even in such small matters as sporting events. I remember one Winter Olympic Games. American woman in bobsled (I believe) won the Gold. Immediately TV commentators and newspapers identify her as African American, with headlines like this: "An African-American woman wins first Gold medal in the history of the Winter Olympics."

How do they know she is African-American? By the color of her skin. Isn't that racist? How then will they identify a Swedish-American or a Norwegian-American winner when both are white? Take a DNA test?

Wouldn't it be better to state that an American woman won a Gold medal? Otherwise, it feels like a reversed Nazi's racial theory; 1936 Games of XI Olympiad in Berlin and Jesse Owens immediately come to mind.

There is only way to heal everyone
Everyone must learn how to forgive the transgressions of others against us.

And most certainly not hold the sins of another against people who had nothing to do with it just cause they share the same skin tone.

That is racism itself.

What is producing all the hate in the young black men of today?
The gang members?
Its the preaching of men like Wright, a bigot and racist who is not a preacher of Christianity but of hell itself.

Does not matter what name tag or flag he flies under, he preaches hate.
That is not the Gospel it is the opposite of the Gospel.
Which is based in every man seeking forgiveness for HIS OWN SINS, and not the sins of others.
No way can preaching hate bring peace and healing.
This is the problem today in the community, seeking vengence on innocent people of today, but even if they were guilty, is still not their place.

Vengeance is mine saith the Lord, I WILL REPAY.

Dangerous thing to try and take something from God that does not belong to you.

All those who have ever tried, died by the very violence they planned for others.

Exactly what is happening among the young black men of today.

Wright stirs up hate, not peace, and until this old bigot forgives others, God will never forgive him his own racism and hatred.

Same for Obama, who is just like him.

What?
Nothing by Anthony Thomas calling Larry an Uncle Tom? I for one am shocked!

Anne
Noooooooo!

Very telling
Left Angle is on this thread beating his drum today. As some of you have pointed out--it seems that only the left equates welfare with race.

When I talk about cutting welfare, I am talking about cutting off all able-bodied recipients. There is NO color distinction whatsoever. I believe that all people are equal. All (able-bodied, minded) people should earn money and not be given a handout. But, what do I know? I am just the typical, white Conservative.

Left Angle Asks ---
--- "Yes or No: Did you stop beating your wife?"

killer writes: "Noooooooo!" Huh! Why?
.

God has taken vengeance on America
Over slavery
The sin of slavery is what caused the Civil war.

The most vicious of all our wars and paid for in blood.

Vengeance has been taken by the owner of all men, and these enemies of God like Wright are stepping into an area Angels Fear.

He is an old fool and is the problem himself with race relations.

And all his backers or supporters.
Keep preaching his hate and violence and he is going to be sitting at the very table of what he wants others to eat.

This is a true saying:
Ro 12:19 -
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

And IF Wright or Obama was a Christian, they would also be preaching this and not the hate and bigotry they both preach.
Obama by his excuse making for the hate his bigoted old preacher is spounting.

Wait a Sec
Talent Scout,

Are you saying that God is takign vengeance on America? Are you saying that America is being damned by God?

of course repubs/cons ignore it..
just like they ignorethe fact that minorites vote in mass for democrats because they think the republican party is racist... on second thought, they dont think it, they KNOW IT. but then you deny that also..nothing new there really.

no dottie not only the right equates welfare with race...evidently you dont read the statements of your brethren in here particularly on immigration reform and the constant matra that blacks/hispanics vote democrat because they are promised "handouts and free stuff"...

maybe you personally see welfare as non racial and I commend you for that. the rank and file
repubs/cons could hardly disagree with you more.

when in there minds the think of a person on welfare/entitlements they are picturing a black or hispanic NOT a poor white..Of course they wont tell you that..lmao

Wonder if killer will come up with a

plausible reason why he wouldn't vote for Mr. Elder for pres.

Waiting!

(This ought to be good!)

Left Angle sure is presumptuous!

And exactly how would you know that? Huh?

It's more the likes of Sharpton and Jackson who make a pretty good living convincing the African-Americans that the Republican Party is racist.

virruhdimwit
she comes on to praise the murdering cop killer and commie, mandela, as though he were open to anything but black supremecy. But as usual the virruhdimwit comes on to castigate all who don't share her worm's eye view of life. You continually belittle all who don't share you narrow view of life. Perhaps with help you could get over your self hatred and show compassion to others. It is extremely doubtful your can ever excape from your own self hatred

Left Angle: Re Welfare and Whites
Do you remember the debates around welfare reform during the Clinton admin? I'm guessing probably not. I base my guess on your stupid posts which lead me to believe you're about 15 years old.

Just so you know, idiot white libs and black race hustlers went into convulsions about how welfare reform was "racist".

That argument went down the tubes when it was correctly pointed out that most welfare recipients in the country were (are) white.

White conservatives are not fans of welfare despite the fact that most food stamps, rent subsidies, utility bill subsidies, AFDC payments, etc. go to white folks. If you'd get out of your libtard echo chamber (and your mom's basement) once in a while, you'd know that.

Go get a paper route. It'll enable you to get some fresh air and sunshine while earning some money. Given how your mind works, it's obvious you need really need some fresh air.

Anne: a question
Do you ACTUALLY BELIEVE that Rev. Jackson and Rev. Sharpton have that much influence in the black community, that when they speak everyone in it says amen brother!!!

I'm with Anne...
"Mr. Elder for president"

Why must the race-talk be with Reverend Wright? Wright has been race-talking with Obama and Chicago residents for 20 years... And I haven't seen any headway being made there?

Mr. Elder seems to have a fresh new approach. A real strategy for "Change" in race-relations.

Although he does seem a little... "Audacious".

I don't
reference people as an "africian-americian" or any other hyphenated americian, either your an Americian or not. Also I do not reference them by color, how about we address people by thier name, title, position? But that's just me.

Re: Talent Scout
You are exactly right. Half a million boys atoned for the sins of our forefathers. Anybody currently attempting to seek reparations, or make us to be guilty, or make us feel ashamed for what was done to salves, is doing so in the face of Lincoln’s clearly stated explanation of the war. ”that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain.”

“Now we are engaged in a great civil war… We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives… But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract.”

Abraham Lincoln, Gettysburg Address

badboy: coulda fooled me...
like I said before, what's really stupid is the constant matra in here(you denying it) that by repubs/cons that: blacks/hispanics vote in mass for democrats because:

"they are promised handouts and free stuff"

NOW THAT IS STUPID...

bet YOU believe it too DONT YOU?

I have no memory of ever liking Mr.Elder.I rarely vote for people, I do not like.In point of fact, never is more accurate. In regards to your earlier comments, alluding to my reasons.I envy no person, that achieves success, for I know it is not easy.My reasons rest at the crossroads of Strength and Truth. The "Truth" of the matter is, Mr. Elder's strength is not politics.Mr. Elder is a Psychologist,I imagine him to be good in his field. My "Best of" goes to him.I am not looking for any President, black or white.I am looking a return on my investment. The race issue must be exploited, until some reasonable position is reached. No one invests in an unsound Institution. The policies, that the people adopt now, will invariably become political reality.Bad behavior should be addressed EARLY!!You have reasons and my position.

Why is Barack Obama running for Pres?
He claims that he is uniquely qualified to “bring our country together” and that despite his lack of experience and relative youth, he has demonstrated superior “judgment”.
Obama has now acknowledged Reverend Jeremiah Wright, used incendiary language that widened the racial divide. Obama says of (his) fellow congregants that (their) anger is real; it is powerful; and that not understanding its roots, serves to widen the chasm between the races.
If Obama is really the Reconciler and Chief, why didn’t he change the hearts of Rev. Wright and his flock over the past 20 years? Everyone is asking what influence the good Reverend had on the candidate, but shouldn’t we be wondering why the very people Obama knew best; still hate America, the White Man and Israel?
With regard to the issue of judgment; Obama demeans President Bush, John McCain and the Clintons claiming that they didn’t know what was going on inside Saddam’s closed police state, (10,000 miles away) meanwhile he didn’t know what was happening in the pew right next to him.
I think that pretty well puts the qualifications issue to rest.

Re: Talent Scout
I agree. This is how I would state it.

Most people ignore what God expects more than what I am comfortable doing.

God is patient waiting for them to get their act together a lot longer than I would be.

God gives people the back of his hand a lot harder than I would, when his patients runs out.

Vengeance is a big subject we get confused about. In the Old Testament when something like a murder happened, the closest kin was immediately on the road searching for the perp to kill him, which was his duty, and there cities of refuge the perp could escape to if he was wrongfully accused where he could get his day in court.

Another Old Testament story that would seem like vengeance to us is in Egypt God kills all the firstborn sons of the Egyptians, because they had required the children of the Israelites to be thrown into the Nile River for at least the length of Moses lifetime, the guy that was rescued from the river, as a baby in a basket. God could not tolerate the injustice until it was life for a life.

bobthebuilder...

If the Mainstream Media couldn't use the word "White"...

There would be no racists.

How can you expect Chris Matthews to spit out something like...

"Multi-racial persons, not proclaiming to be of African blood"

Most people on the dole
tend to vote for Democrats. They certainly don't want the gravy train to end!

Hillary's dialogue
Whatever happened to Hillary's "Let's have a dialogue" campaign?

Sad to say, killer’s post of 5:08PM

makes NO sense what so ever!

And we won't even go into the spelling and grammar.

But he still never said why he has no recollection of liking Mr. Elder.

Judgments of God, and His Vengence
Huge subject, impossible to cover from one angle.

No more than one can see everything on Pikes Peak just standing to its eastern side.

Or see all the hidden nooks and crannies, colors, trees and rocks by standing miles away.

Really men do of commint a single transgression that goes unpunished of God.
Many think they get by with ignoring the Laws of God, and do not, as we all reap what we sow.

Hebrews 2:
1 Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

2 For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward;

3 How shall we escape, .......

Perhaps.....
the chickens have come home to roost. Dr. King's dream of having folks appreciated for the content of their character rather than the color of their skin seems now to be visited on B. Hussein Obama, Jeramiah "Wrong" Wright and others whose character is lacking.

That's not racism according to Dr. King!

I may have an answer, Anne
First off, killer's post making no sense--that is different than most of the time because..........

I saw a post of his on Walter Williams' column yesterday. He said he did not like him either due to his being an Uncle Tom. This IS just an assumption, but I would say that killer also dislikes Elder for much the same reason. It makes no sense to me, but I guess I don't think of people in terms like that.

Anne
Ask someone at your local university to explain it please.I cannot make it any simpler. The grammatical license, that I take, has but one purpose,To SATISFY ME!If it does not satisfy you, matters not to me,along as my purpose has been achieved.

I mangled this
Really men do of commint a single transgression that goes unpunished of God.

Meant to type
Men do not commit a transgression that goes unpunished.

All transgressions get judged,NOW, even if we do not understand what is happening to us.

Greetings, Anne m'dear.
Can't stay long. Just thought I'd check in and see who's posting. I see the lib knuckle draggers are out in force. Ho humm. What else is new?

Good column, Larry. If you can get Condi Rice to run for POTUS, she'll get my vote.

Dottie writes: "I saw a post of his

[killer]on Walter Williams' column yesterday. He said he did not like him either due to his being an Uncle Tom."

I strongly suspect you're right... killer dislikes Elder for the same reason he dislikes Williams, and EVERY OTHER African-American who has accomplished something in his/her life, AND who is NOT a bigot such as himself.

Oh, and for the record, Mr. Elder is NOT a Psychologist. Mr. Elder is an attorney.

(But it does sound as though killer could use a good psychologist...)

Hi Motley: You're spot on! In fact,

there are a number of good Conservatives I'd quickly vote for, who happened to be black.

What bigots such as killer, and a few others we have on our TH, don't understand is that ideology and character mean a great deal... in fact, just about everything.

Liberalism requires victims, pt 1
Rev. Wright, Obama's spiritual leader for more than 20 years, appears to observe the liberal commandments over God's commandments while preaching to God's flock. God's law is based on an honest observation of the Truth. The liberal law is based on lies to heat up the emotions, to promote screaming, yelling, with loud of "ole those dirty white, blue-eyed, AIDS spreading, devils! When will those nice, white, blue-eyed, liberals save us and make us all rich ... but not dirty, middle-class, independent Americans?!?! Those dirty, white devils put us in the trick bag ... and the white liberals are the only ones that can let us out of the trick bag. We're helpless and completely dependent on socialist, liberal, government programs. Otherwise, we're finished!" What the honorable Rev. Wright fails to tell his flock in his sermons is that belief in Jesus Christ allows us to escape God's righteous judgment. And, faith in Christ places us outside man's grip and we become more than overcomers. Rev. Wright seems to need his flock to stay angry at the "great, all-powerful, white, blue-eyed devil" on their knees before the alter of the great white liberal master, continuously held in an angry, passive dependent state where their fate laids in the hands of some force outside of themselves. While the Mexicans, the Asians, the Africans, the Cubans, and all other groups that make up our great country race pass the Afro-American as they are reminded of racism and wait for their white liberal master, with their Afro-American poverty pi-p and their politicians like Obama to keep them in a frenzy but never meaningfully end the racism the white liberal profits from and uses to support their white liberal power-base, and their socialist agenda, on the backs of the poor, ignorant Afro-American.

Liberalism requires victims, pt 2
The white liberal socialist needs racism ... more than we can imagine! The history of racism against the Afro-American supply’s the white liberal socialist and communist with the grievance and the only proletariat claim of maltreatment, the white liberal does not have. So, they steal the history of the Afro-American and apply their history of racism making it equal to the history of gays, of abortion, or situation the white liberal wants to apply the Afro-American’s history to. The white liberal turns the issue, not connected with Afro-Amercian civil rights, into a civil rights issue stealing it’s legitimacy. To do this over time the white liberal socialist needs the Afro-American condition to stay exactly the same! Rev. Wright helps this process by keeping the Afro-American frozen in time and space and pointing out the problem, making the racist responsible for ending the problem, while the white liberal politician continues receiving the political benefits from keeping the problem in place. While making the Republican the bad guy.

Anne. I wouldn't concern myself
with the one who calls himself Killer. He posts racist gibberish whenever he gets the chance. What libs don't seem to understand, is that if you consistently vote for people based on race, rather than merit, you'll get what you deserve: a toilet which was once a country. I'll vote for a black, based on merit, but not out of any sense of Freudian guilt, and certainly not for a racist ideologist like B. Hussein Obama.

larry22...

Are you thinking that these Pinko-commie-cross-dressers really can't have Obama as President?

ANNE!
My goodness woman!Don't you understand killer's mantra?
"It's all about MEEEE!"

I get this nagging feeling that killer is a white high-school drop out.

Drop the dash and end racism
The way I see it you are either an American or not.

We should ban all dash Americans.

If you consider yourself or identify yourself as a -American you deserve to be mistreated and despised.

Save America and Americans, get the dash out!

How to spot an American:

1. Look into mirror, and say "I'm an American"

Ends racism in one step.

Katy: I think you're right, "a white

high-school drop out" and it does sound as though he's on drugs..

RACE
Obama says let's talk race. But if do talk about it in front of a black person they want to kill you and then they call you a racist. Well the ones that are racist are the blacks, Just look at Wright, Farrakhan, Al Sharpton. Mr Meets, Black Panther.all racist they teach it in CHURCH were they teach hate. NOT LOVE. that tells me alot about the blacks. If they want what others have work for it Stop having baby's at 12,13,14,15,16,17,18, and tell the baby's father to support the child. So welfare can take a brake. and teach your children not to kill to resepct life and others. teach them to keep a clean community. maybe they can see life in a better way. stop saying give me. and start giving back because you have being taking for a long time.

oh there is a great chasm
One one side are limited government conservatives(McCain isn't it). This side believes that government will continually expand its power and result in less prosperity and progress for all. For easy comparisons look at private retirement vs Social Security, private healthcare vs public, Public schools (K-12) versus private colleges, etc.

On the other side are the fools. They believe that power in Washington is OK as long as it is used as they think it should. Instead of taking government control out of their personal and public lives they believe government is a hammer to swing at those who have TAKEN ADVANTAGE of the government's meddling.

Such ignorance could have only been borne on the back of the public school system.

The_Shadow...

Dash-dropping won't cut it. No one really says "Racist-African-American" or "Racist-Polish-American".

The code-word is "White". When used by the MSM, it simply means "White-Racist-Republican". It's actually the only racial slur backed by the Democrat Party and the FCC.

I've just become "Multi-racial". It drives my Democrat in-laws nuts.

Anne
I have to give you charity points for hanging in there so long with the individual who posts as "killer," who is obviously in need of a clinical diagnosis. I fear, however, that he must have dropped out of school a lot sooner than high school. His grammer, spelling, and syntax suggest, oh, fourth grade.

I usually pay no attention to these exchanges, preferring to scroll past them, but today I was just struck by your noble patience. Above and beyond the call, shipmate!

That was "grammar," BTW
Oof.

And Larry, thanks. We do talk incessantly about race up here in these latitudes. It's hilarious when people suggest otherwise.

Obama can kiss Italian vote arrivederci
I have no problem about the Italian "garlic nose" slam by Rev. Wright, we do eat garlic (it sure kept us alive during the plague); fair enough. But the problem I have is his claim that Italians “were whites that hated the Jews and that’s why they killed Jesus.” The FACT is that Italians did not exist as a people until at least 500 years AFTER Jesus.* The "Romans" in Jesus' day were actually of Greek origin. And Obama calls his pastor a “scholar?”
And not to mention most Italians do not have "white" skin. Italy is just like America, there are brown, white, and yes, black Italians. Italians and Jews have never separated from each other over color of skin. Actually Hasidic Jews, Arabs, and Mediterranean people in general look very similar. For example, my dad and other members of my family are constantly mistaken for “middle eastern,” and sometimes Mexican.

CLICK HERE TO SEE MY DAD AND OUR RICH WHITE ITALIAN FAMILY?

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=371252&id=835185274

The fact that Obama calls his pastor a “scholar,” disqualifies Obama. PERIOD.

Case in point, when Hitler distributed his propaganda flyers down into Italia from their Nazi planes back in WWII, describing the features of Jews, dark sallow skin, hook nose, dark eyes, oily skin, the Italians shrugged their shoulders and said "hey, this sounds like us." I think Pastor Jeremiah Wright watches too many American mafia movies and needs to take a trip to Italia and see. Furthermore, Italian people have not and do NOT segregate from each other according to color of skin, perhaps religion (Catholic); but NOT color of skin. My step mother was an Egyptian Jewess, very brown skin and there was never any discussion of color of skin or even any mention of it.

Rev. Wright's own words slamming Italianos saying they hated Jews and that's why they killed Jesus:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAYe7MT5BxM

Only one race, just ask any animal
There is only 1 race: HUMAN.

Just ask any animal.

They will teach you they do not see a black person or a white person, they just see a HUMAN.

And they know there are only 2 kinds of humans, good and bad.

God said “Ask the animals and they will TEACH you.”
-Job: 12: 7-9

If humans would've learned that simple fact from the beginning, there wouldn't have been slavery in the first place. Now, years later we're visiting this same thing again, like a dog going back to its vomit.

"As a dog goes back to its vomit, so a fool repeats his stupidity."
-Proverbs 26:11

Obama's speech did not unite anyone, just look at the results, yet even MORE division. And based on skin color of all things?

People, let us go FORWARD and not backward.

Obama and any racists of any color: Flush the toilet, there's no need to put your hands in it.

SemperVigilans: Thank you, kind sir.

Kind words, indeed.

While I wish it was "noble patience" it was more anger and indignation.

Posts such as killer's are just as bigoted as the KKK and such, and certainly just as offensive.

Talent Scout
You put into words what I and my husband have been thinking and saying, in a much better way.
Thank you.
Wright is just another racebaiter who like Jackson and Sharpton found the cover of being called a Reverund can be quite lucrative. Fox has a story about how he manipulated his way into a very golden retirement..gated community,
huge 10,000 sq.ft home being built on land he sold the church and the church is building the home and it's a living trust. Living trust, house on property he sold the church for some $40,000 less than he paid for it and I bet he's
scammed it so there isn't any property tax cuz after all it's church property. I may be mistaken..but!! And then there is Obama of the
tax cut for the rich genre (along with every other demonRat) making millions. Wright founding a church on Black Liberation Theology that tells the folks to deny middleclassism..I guess so, for those two hypocrites anyway, they just jumped over the middle class into the offshore, tax haven rich elite. Nice work if you can get it. Bigotry can give one a golden parachute if one plays the game right. or is that left?

Scarlettsnow and Motley crue
"Obama and his wife Michelle have done NOTHING for the United States except take."

What a complete lie. I can tell you what he
has given. You tell me what he has taken.

Motley Crue:

"if you consistently vote for people based on race, rather than merit, you'll get what you deserve" Hmm. Since nearly everyone who has
been in office on either state or national level
has been white, what does that say about us? or
them?

and again: "I'll vote for a black, based on merit, but not out of any sense of Freudian guilt, and certainly not for a racist ideologist like B. Hussein Obama." Your "b. Hussein" is a
dead give away as to how un-racist you are.

Why don't you quit preening for Annie and get
some sense or go watch television or something
other than making such revealing remarks.

viruddh
Tell us again how saying the mans MIDDLE NAME is racist? Or perhaps you can just say "I don't have a fricking clue what that word means".

Tell us how Obama's *one* sponsored bill is to send billions of dollars overseas to 'combat world poverty'? Are you as clueless and ignorant as he is as to of WHY those countries are in poverty?

Perhaps his national health care will make our system as good as the Brits, who do their dentistry at home. Or as good as Canada, where women come to the US to have their babies and the father of the Canadian system recently declared it a failure. Or as good as Cuba where Castro flies to France to see a US educated doctor.

I think we will stop the lesson here.

viruddh
Stuff a sock in it already.

Go watch television?

OK, Just watched the James David Manning interview on H&C.

Who's a racist?!

Science: No such thing as race
Did you know that humans are so similar genetically scientists cannot divide them into sub-species(races)? The concept of race is solely a social construct. The U.S. Census has changed racial categories in each new Census. The truth is
there is a continuum of characteristics based on how far away one group of people originated from another.

The continuation of racial categories on government forms should be abolished. Continuing to legalize unscientific generalizations about people perpetuates the bigotry most of us abhor.

Sniper
My reasons for not voting for Barack Obama do not amount to racism, as I see it. I think racism exists among all races. Whites don't "own" the description.

Because we are a majority white country, I think it's a mistake to elect a black president if that person's allegiance belongs mostly to the black race.

Interestly, in a discussion with my grandson who has a black grandmother (disceased), I honestly answered his questions and gave this reason. This took place about two months ago.

What have we learned since then about Barack Obama? Twenty years of attending the church whose pastor is a hate-monger, and a father-figure and mentor of Obama's, to top it off.

Through reading many of Larry Elder's articles, for one, I'd have no problem giving him my vote if he had the additional know-how and experience in handling domestic and foreign situations. I see him, for example, as someone who has a more sensible hold on reality.

Obama doesn't make the cut, anymore than H.Clinton, or her husband during the 90s.

Education is not what it used to be
Thanks for the history lesson on Italians, MoniQue. Very amusing.

If Obama considers his pitifully ignorant, emotionally twisted and hate-spreading pastor a scholar, worthy of his admiration and financial support for 20 years, then education has been nothing more than an expensive suit to make him look good. Sleek words hiding an empty mind, at best, and a resentful, hateful one at worst.

Is this what Harvard produces now?

Racial Weapons
MoniQue

Your advice to racists like Obama to flush the toilet and not to put their hands in it will be ignored, because they find useful what they can scoop out of the bowl.

Larry Elder's date, the victicrat, illustrates well what I have often seen. Toilet offerings thrown at any white people ignorant enough of racial politics to be in the target place at the right time. They are often too shocked and ashamed to defend themselves, smeared as they are with accusations. Just as in witch-hunting times, the accusation is the conviction.

The race card will continue to be used as long as it gets the card user what he wants. In the case of Elder's date, she found the joy of bullying. A reward in itself. A feeling of power over others and a sense of superiority.

Just because you're a victim in one situation, doesn't mean you can't be an oppressor in another. People step in and out of various roles.

Laisve
I think race is being used as a smokescreen for Obama's real background. His friends besides Wright are troubling, also,no matter what their race. Rezko,Louis Farrahkan,Ayers,Mousa Abu Mazook and others with ties to terrorism and Muslims.

He did not choose his race, but he can choose his friends more wisely. We know almost nothing of his background. It is as if he was planted in Illinois. Why? Who did the grooming for this stranger? It is imperative that this neophyte is vetted COMPLETELY before he is the nominee !!

viruddh.
Obviously, reading and comprehension are not your strong suite. My comments were not constructed as an invitation to the peanut gallery, for puerile responses, so if you think to impress your leftwing idiot contemporaries by tossing out whatever baboon babblings come to mind, let me assure you that your missives fell far short of the mark. I suggest you first try to upgrade your infantile intellect by studying up on "Understanding the English language and its usage 101." You might also try reading up on the Care and feeding of Squirrels, in case your mother tosses you out of your basement habitat and you are forced to take care of yourself.

Forward Thinking
How forward thinking was Booker T. Washington? Who, by the way, didn't have any of the niceties the Black Community has at it's disposal today. We continue to beat this Obama/Jeremiah Wright horse with the proverbial racist stick, but this is more shtick than the law allows. Mr. Obama knew exactly what Mr. Wright was doing and nodded and said amen like all the other folks at Chicago Trinity. I'll keep repeating this ad nauseum, that Rev. Wright, like Rev. Ike before him and all the other successful/controversial Black Preachers will continue to push the racial, anti-American, Jesus is an illegal immigrant, Hymie Town and no justice no peace, sermon envelope, it's what gets folks in the seats so that the "good reverends" can retire in a lavish lifestyle that they've grown accustomed and entitled. Booker T. Washington was no reverend and would never even consider asking for reparations.

Great Article!
I've promote Booker T every chance I get. The world would be a better place if everyone read and took to heart his little book.

I found it telling that the bookstore at Obamas church peddles copies of DuBois, while ignoring Mr. Washington. I wonder what direction the civil rights movement would have taken had we listened to Washington instead of DuBois. I guess it's always easier to give into anger rather than hard work and self-reliance. Bitterness is easier than forgiveness and never as sweet.
