Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Bookings to promote my new book, "Stupid Black Men: How to Play the Race Card -- and Lose," have been difficult. Many media outlets -- television, radio, magazines -- flatly turn me down, because they find the title "offensive." The unwillingness to offend, to avoid the appearance of racism, proves one of the main points of my book -- that white racism no longer poses a significant problem in American life.

A man's 7-year-old son spotted his dad's recently purchased copy, and asked him, "Why is the book called 'Stupid Black Men'?" Dad wrote and asked me how to answer.

"Well, in writing," I responded, "sometimes authors say one thing when they mean something different. Some call this 'tongue-in-cheek' or 'irony' or that the writer is being 'coy.' All these funny words mean that the writer really means something very different from what, at first, it seems like he is saying.

"You know how sometimes I'll look at my watch and say, 'Wow, time really flew by.' I don't mean my watch grew wings like a bird and flew away. I mean that we were having so much fun, it got really late, and I didn't know it was almost time for dinner!

"You know how Mommy stands at your bedroom door when you haven't made your bed, and she says, 'My, this sure looks clean and neat'? She really means, 'You get in here and clean your room!'

"Suppose Mommy took a picture of your messy room, wrote on the picture 'My Child's Clean Room,' and taped it to the bathroom mirror. Why would she do that? Mommy is trying to get you to do the right thing by showing you how bad your room looks when it's messy. She wants to get your attention by saying one thing, when she means something different. This book got your attention and got you to ask me about it, didn't it?

"Now if you read the book, you would find that the book is not really calling black people -- or any other group -- 'stupid.' It says don't let people confuse you when they say things that are not true. What kinds of things? Things like, 'Most people are out to get you because you are black.' Or, 'Because you are black you can't do well in life no matter how hard you work.' Or, 'White people are really mean to black people.'

"Those things used to be true a long time ago, but they are no longer true. The book is saying life is good. So don't let people treat you like you are stupid -- and make you angry and unhappy with life -- by saying things about you, about other people, and about our country that are not true. The book says, 'Think for yourself. Believe in yourself, work hard and enjoy life. You are not stupid. So don't let people treat you as if you are.'"

Dad wrote me back and thanked me.

I recently flew to New York to promote the book. I met a lady who described herself as a) an actress, b) performing in Santa Monica, a hyper-liberal town next to Los Angeles, and c) Jewish. Probably not a Reagan Republican, I thought.

Actress: Why are you going to New York?

Me: To promote my new book.

Actress: What's it called?

Me: Well … let me first tell you about the book, and then I'll tell you its title.

Actress: Fine.

Me: White racism no longer poses a major problem in America.

Actress: Really?

Me: You mean, really -- that's what the book is about? Or really -- that I actually believe that?

Actress: Both.

Me: "Black America," if a separate country, would rank No. 16 of the top countries in the world, as to GDP; and the black middle class continues to thrive, an advancement that preceded affirmative action. But Hillary Clinton, before a black audience, accused the then-Republican Congress of being run like a "plantation."

Actress: I see.

Me: Why do Democrats say things like this? Because without that monolithic black vote -- 90 to 95 percent at the presidential level -- the Democratic Party cannot win. Democrats have not carried the "white vote" since the '60s.

Suppose 70 percent of Jewish children were born outside of wedlock; that the prison population were 50 percent Jewish men; that Jewish urban high schools had a 50 percent drop-out rate; and that 25 percent of Jewish young men -- late teens or early 20s -- had criminal records, meaning in jail, on parole or on probation. And suppose that the so-called "Jewish leaders" blamed this on anti-Semitism. How would you feel?

Actress: I would resent it.

Me: Now, let me tell you the title. It's called "Stupid Black Men: How to Play the Race Card -- and Lose."

Actress: Fantastic title.

Come on Larry...
You going to tell me you found an actress in LaLa land who first, understood what you were saying about Democrats and Blacks, and then agreed with your title? You aren't using a little, shall we say, poetic license?

Even if you did make that part up, your article is right on--here we are about to see a black man (ok, half black!) about to be nominated to the highest office in this country, the leader of the free world, leading the only super-power in the world right now. Hardly what would be considered very racist.

How To Play The Race Card And Lose
Larry, first let me start out by saying "I'M PROUD OF YOU!" This is an awesome title and I'll definitely be purchasing this-please continue to shake things up.

Some racism
Still some racism out there, but it's mostly the marginal kooks nowadays. Good thing.

I'm optimistic that us Republicans can help minorities and females to understand our policies benefit them too - and also we should become more representative of minorities and females, rather than being a bunch of white guys.

John McCain for President! :]

Stae of the Black Union
Listening last Saturday to the meeting in New Orleans on CNN, you would think that Blacks were just released from the plantation the day before.
Its the same people Tavis Smiley, Sharpton and the like that are afraid of losing their spotlight who were whining. Now even a Black president isn't good enough we want freedom! The truth is thye can't stand the LACK of reacism because thats where their bread comes from.

Elder and Cosby
Are doing more to educate and communicate with their fellow blacks than all of the Jacksons and Sharptons of the country. It takes class and courage speak honestly sometimes. Kudos to Larry.

I'm not familiar with the book though and I'm wondering if it's a good book for anyone or if it's targeted towards blacks?

Great title.....
Racism is not dead, as in no longer to be found. There always will be racism, as there always will be pedophilia, murder, rape and other despicable behavior.

What Mr. Elder is saying, I think, is that racism is no longer a significant barrier to people of color. Sharpton, Jackson and other race hustlers continue to insist it still is rampant--think the Jena incident. The less racism affects Blacks, the louder the hustlers scream. Their ox is being gored!

Thank you, Mr. Elder, for having the courage to speak the truth. Now we need to work on the Black family as the agent of change for the conditions you cite in your article.

Nail on the Head
Larry, Thanks for the great book. I'll be purchasing it next week.
Racism is still alive. Most of White Americans no longer are racist. Instead, their former position has been taken over by Black Americans. Notice I didn't say Most Black Americans. Those who listen to Jackson, Sharpton, Smiley and others who thrive and live (and make their millions) off poor, persuasive, ignorant, uneducated Black Americans, will always be racists. Al and his boys (no pun intended) keep the flames of racism burning. They don't know how to do anything else. The Left New media assist them all the time. They also want to see racism thrive so they'll have news to report. Without controversy like racism, the newspapers would go out of business as most don't have the compassion and courage to write aboout the good things happening in America. They have to sway the real truth with their socialist, left wing opinions.

May God Bless all Americans and may we see the writing on the wall (Holy Bible) before it's too late.

I teach in a private school ...
...in the Deep South that is about 45% black, and about 40% redneck. (The rest are Asian, Hispanic, and various other) It's an interesting dichotomy, but they get along well, and there are many close friendships and even dating relationships among the various groups. When we discuss race in class, the black kids often at first talk about racism. Then, after examining footage from the 1960s and discussing their day-to-day lives, they realize that racism is not really a problem for them. We talk about America truly being the place where anyone can become successful, if he or she wants it bad enough to not let anything stand in their way. Race relations are better in the South than anywhere else in the nation, maybe because we had farther to come, but we have.

I Toledo,OH
The (alledged) Reverand Rose has returned (from a welcome absence) to attempt to get one of the major fund sourses to the city voted down. It has been in effect for at least 50 years, but now is a "racist" ordinence.
We not only have the joke of the nation as Mayor, we get the privillege of one of the most bigoted loudmouths to keep us in the news!

Hurray for us!!

Great title
Elder has given his book a great title, I really hope his picture is on the front cover where it belongs.

LeishaC
“Race relations are better in the South than anywhere else in the nation”

Yea, the racist conviction of Genarlow Wilson in Georgia, the “Jena 6” fiasco in Louisiana, and the constant and stubborn use of the confederate flag in South Carolina all represent the racially harmonious South quite well.

Anthony Thomas
"Elder has given his book a great title, I really hope his picture is on the front cover where it belongs"

Your above post only proves who the real racists in this country are...The Democratic Party

orlandocajun
“I'm not familiar with the book though and I'm wondering if it's a good book for anyone or if it's targeted towards blacks?”

No, the book is not targeted towards blacks by any sense of the imagination.

Let it go!
The american people embrace people like Oprah, Michael Jordan, Bill Cosby, Magic Johnson, Condi Rice and Colin Powell. They are willing to vote overwhelmingly for a black candidate for president. Yet the left decries racism at every turn.
The american people are consistent. Do the right thing and you will be embraced regardless of race. The left is obsessed with race.

Yeah, Anthony...
So what? All of those episodes you mention have another side. You're just spewing the race-baiting crap you heard in the media. And still, those are three small things. Even the flag thing in South Carolina was more about not liking being told by outsiders what people in SC should and shouldn't do than it was about the flag. Still, I live here, and I know it's better here, because it HAS to be. We live next door to each other, work together, go to church together and in all other ways, mingle. That can't be said of many areas of the country. It's easy to say you're not racist if you rarely interact with members of another race.

The Soft Bigotry of Low Expectations
Are inherent in the rantings of Sharpton, Jackson and, of course, Anthony Thomas.

Racism keeps one down only if you believe in it. The Confederate Battle Flag that offends people so much was not used to denote racism. Look at history.

The secession of the South was over whether or not the States had the right to determine internal policy. Slavery happened to be one of the issues, not the ONLY issue.

The Confederate Battle Flag is a reminder of what happens when the federal government tries to dictate policy to the States. People die.

If you want to think something is a symbol of racism, I can't dissuade you, but I can disagree with you.

For a lot of people the Confederate Battle Flag is a symbol of the region they are from that they are proud of. Deal with it.

Now back to the article.

The statistics that Mr. Elder cites are good examples of the title of his book. And they are true and horrific. And Mr. Elder and Mr. Cosby are saying "Physician, heal thyself." The correct message to be sent.

TH posters

Anthony is exactly the kind of person who Larry Elder is trying to warn everyone about.

Liberal to the core, Anthony is either unwilling or unable to see past his emotions.

You would all do well to put him on ignore.

Anthony is SUCH a victim!
If he spent less time whining, he might actually make something of himself.

Nice One, Sage!
I hope your book hits the top of the selling charts. I think it will. However, too many people are dependant on playing race victim. They will do everything they can to dismiss your work, but truth is hard to ignore -- no matter how much hate one has in their heart.

I agree
No Country for Old Bigots. That's including racist Republicans and Dixicrats.

I” have reead in the past about how Antonhy believes strongly in individualim and acheivements of blacks but when a book comes out advocating it, he claims the author is stupid”

I feel the way about Elder, that people like you feel about Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the like. Elder is no different than Sharpton or Jackson, Elder just provokes racism amongst whites instead of blacks. He’s no less a “race hustler “ or “stupid black man” than Jackson or Sharpton, he just hustles a different race.

Why do racists want to be Republicans?
More interesting: why do they have such success finding leadership positions in the party?

One small Point!
I am looking forward to reading Larry's book. One small point to make on this as well. Racism occurs everyday in America, but not just toward one race to another. It also happens to thoses of the same race toward each other. I am Hispanic who is married to a white woman and have been for nearly fifteen years. We have four great kids. Early in the marriage, some of my family asked why I never considered marrying "My Own Kind"! I said to them that you can't help who you fall in love with and that race should never be a reason to reject someone who you love. Plus I reminded them that Our Lord Jesus never stop to ask anyone what race they were before saving them! We must in this type of racism before we can rid ourselves of the other!

There are only 3 Decent Republicans
There are only 3 Decent Republicans

Condoleezza Rice
John McCain
Colin Powell

2 blacks and 1 white. And this is out of a Majority White Party.

The rest of you worship money, live your life in fear, or just a bunch of delusional racist idiots.

Most of the Rockefeller Republicans moved to the Democratic party.

Anthony Thomas
It is an INSULT to our ancestors to compare racism today vs racism in 1800s-1960s. THEY FACED RACISM. I agree that we still have some knucKKKleheads who are trapped in a time machine circa(1800)...some on this post/website. Mr. Charlie does NOT define your future, you define it. Build wealth Anthony. Wealth and Ownership of self equals FREEDOM. That is what Malcolm, Martin, Marcus, Fredrick Douglass, Booker T, etc were fighting for.

Mr. Thomas
As an able advocate for “group-identity politics” you need to “Google”, download and read the following research paper: “The Color of Crime: Race, Crime and Justice in America” by the New Century Foundation. Please take note of a particular static: of the nearly 770,000 violent crimes that occur every year between whites and blacks, blacks committed 85% and white 15%.

Please don’t insult my intelligence by stating that said crimes were solely driven by ECONOMIC considerations. Perhaps, being an advocate of group-identity politics you might consider focusing on addressing the problems associated w/ your HOUSE before criticizing mainstream society.

D=R: Democracy
Having read many of your posts, you are one of the biggest arguments against Democracy.

Rob
One only need look at the title of Elder’s book to see his attempt to provoke racism against blacks. Elder titles his book “Stupid Black Men”, not Stupid White Men or Stupid American Men. Elder does this despite the fact that there are stupid and yes racist men of all colors in this country, however to Elder this is irrelevant. Elder likes to denounce the thinking of the masses of blacks so that he may promote himself amongst the masses of misguided Republicans and conservative whites. Just how Sharpton unfairly attacks whites to promote himself amongst blacks, Elder unfairly attacks blacks to promote himself amongst whites, usually conservative whites. It’s a business for Elder just like it’s a business for Sharpton, they’re probably friends who exchange ideas about how to exploit their respective bases, lol.

I bet the publisher of Elder’s book is the same publisher of Star Parkers “Plantation” book, Jesse Lee Peterson’s poorly written “Scam” book, along with the books from John McWhorter, Sowell, Williams and the rest of the cast of characters. There is just as much money in exploiting the racial ignorance of whites as there is at exploiting the racial ignorance of blacks, and people like Elder have definitely perfected their craft

Anthony
"One only need look at the title of Elder’s book to see his attempt to provoke racism against blacks."

Excuse me? Have you looked at Larry Elder's picture? Why would he want to provoke racism against blacks?

Obama's political preemption
Reverse racism: where a minority discriminates by ignoring the attributes of a political candidate because of partiality to one’s race, where race is the dominant political consideration because of past unjust race discrimination.

orlandocajun-JohnShaft-Ken
I have read this book and it is EXCELLENT!

Georgetwin
I've not read the book, but I'd like to do so. I don't always agree with Larry Elder, but he is always worth reading.

This reminds me
of an issue I had with my daughter. I purchased Thomas Sowell's Black Rednecks and White Liberals and told her what a great book it was.

She wouldn't even pick up my copy and take a look at it. She thought the author was saying Blacks were Rednecks. I told her the author was a black professor, but she still was skeptical.
It's sad because she is missing a truly remarkable and eye opening book.

I plan to buy your book too, Larry. Knowing your writing as I do, I'm sure it's fantastic.

Anthony Thomas
You spew a lot of vitriol and yet you don't give a single example of what it is that Elder is saying that you find so disagreeable.

Why don't you be specific? If Elder is really a race baiter as you say, tell us where he is wrong. Counter what he is saying with some hard facts.

Ken
Of course Anthony knows the color of Mr Elder and that is what really bugs him. You see, Anthony is one of those blacks who cannot stand to see another black man think independently of the Democratic party. Can't allow these people to really think for themselves! And it is so much easier to just blame all problems on others and ascribe racism (or sexism or any other ism) to any who disagree with you.

M Sederoff
The closest that Anthony will come to reading Mr Elder's book is what he has already read--the title. That way, facts won't have to get in the way of his comments. He can base them all on just his feelings.

As to your comment about your daughter, that sounds like what I heard from my son, who is quite well read, when I asked if he had read the book by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. I don't remember his exact words but he wouldn't since she was too involved in it (I guess since it was autobiographical then it can't be true?) I dunno.

Colosteve
"You see, Anthony is one of those blacks who cannot stand to see another black man think independently of the Democratic party."

He ain't gwine to go agin the wishes of Massa Jesse! No, suh!

Elder is a race baiter....of sorts
I'll say it. Larry is a race baiter. He is trying to get good black folks to race away from Sharpton, jackson, et. al. If he is successful, maybe Phil aaronstein (sp?) of the LA Times will dub him the 'Magic Negro' instead of Obama.

Anyone ever notice the first ones to bring up race are liberals, though they pretend to strive for color blindness. (Same goes for that clown on CNN who called Juan Williams a 'happy negro') Libs love to eat their own.

Demosthenes - you make good points, I assume when you write it is without pebbles in the mouth.

M Sederoff
“Why don't you be specific? If Elder is really a race baiter as you say, tell us where he is wrong. Counter what he is saying with some hard facts.”

I’ve presented this argument on several occasions. The problem that I have with Elder and others of his brand is that they like to cherry pick what they believe are the problems of the black community instead of examining the problems from a comprehensive perspective. Almost every column and every book Elder writes is an attack on blacks, some of his criticisms are legitimate, but he always dismisses historical white racism and unjust black inequity as apart of his writings and analysis, this is very problematic.

Elder is the alter ego of Al Sharpton. Sharpton ignores that blacks sometimes have to take personal responsibility for some of their problems and shortcomings and blames most of the contemporary problems of blacks on racism and historical inequity. Larry Elder ignores that the historic racism that blacks have experienced has genuinely affected blacks economically and psychologically, and blames most of the contemporary problems of blacks on lack of responsibility, and personal failures. The truth of the matter is that there is equal blame on both sides and people like Elder and Sharpton like to place all of the blame on one side of the aisle. I personally believe that people like Elder and Sharpton do this to pander to their overwhelmingly bias, and misinformed base, and also to maintain economic support amongst people and institutions that posses their counterproductive views.

Obama, the cure for my fever is..
It's pretty clear America is not going to tolerate bigots and racist.

The idiot that opened for McCain.

Rush Limbaugh and his magic negro and half-rican comments.

Now its got a little to touchy with Clinton's fair comment that MLK was the leader of civil rights but it took a bureaucrat, a policy wonk to get the legislation through JBL. That is TRUE, no offense to MLK. Bill said Jessie Jackson did well in the south primaires when he ran. True.

I am not a fan of Obama but I have to admit he is running a good campaign, his timing is right and his laid back attitude and yes his color, have made it hard to attack him. Hillary as a woman has no "female" protection because she is a Clinton and people don't see her as a woman until she got choked up. Of course Mitt Romney cried several times like a baby, not pretty on a man.

I am glad people are in Obama mania, but I hope if he wins he can be affective. I also hope is is not acting and pulling a fast one. Clinton mocked Obama which was fair. Obama made it sound like an attack on people that voted for him. Well lets face it some people that LOVE obama and faint and get Obama fever, are not deep thinkers. It's true I'll say it, they LIKE HIM FOR HIM AND HIS SPEAKING STYLE AND NOTHING ELSE. However nothing could be worse than Bush and I think the next president my be a one term'er despite their best efforts, no matter who wins, McCain, Obama or Clinton. The mess that Bush left will take a decade or two to fix.

PS: GOP can not win the Presidency with out the white Evangelical vote. As far as blacks being in jail, yep it's all their fault, no possible other reason or contributing factor? Racism is none existent, especially with Republicans and their open free "liberal" mind, not in lock step at all, no platoon think at all.

Ignorance of history flourishes
Dixiecrat=Republican writes:

"Most of the Rockefeller Republicans moved to the Democratic party."

So did nearly all of the Dixiecrats.

The Magic Negro
For you culturally illiterate twits out there I'll try to explain the reference. In the days of really bad and cliched movies with a racial theme, I mean the Thirties and Forties of course, they often had a strange character who came to be known as the "magic negro". This was a voice of calm and reason among black characters in the film. His role was to calm the fears of the white characters and cool the ire of the black characters. Often this was either a clergyman or a grandfatherly type with a sense of compassion and reason.

It was a weak cliche but it was a legitimate one for its time in Hollywood. It is so obscure that when Rush REPEATED the term which was used by a LIBERAL writer HE was accused of coining the phrase. THAT'S why Paul Shanklin recorded his very funny version with "Al Sharpton" singin the praises of "Barack the Magic Negro". That's the whole story. No racism. No hate. Just good parody and a lot of wit. Too bad YOUR ox was getting gored. Who cares?

-Ray

color is an identifier, not the target

Racism = Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

I have discussed this in detail several times, including with friends of mine who were Black. Yes I know, to many of you the fact that I suggested that I had a friend who was Black, discredits anything I might say.

But, for the rest of you, in each case when I asked if they hated anyone because of their color, the answer was as expected, “NO.”

Then I talked about color/race as an identifier, and what was really hated was the reputation, the culture, of many people of that identification. Remember, the Mini Jesse Jackson said that if he was walking on a street at night, and saw a bunch of blacks teenagers coming towards him, he would cross the street.

So in all of the cases, including Jackson, color was an identifier, not the target.

When you see a Muslim you think of things you have read and heard about a certain segment of them, and you act on the Culture, not the person. When you see a Black, you act on what you have read in the paper, or watched on the news about the actions of some of them recently, the color is the identifier.

Of course when you hear the so-called music coming from a band of garbage makers, first you vomit, then you remember that Color and the sound of Guitar music (an oxymoron of course), is the identifier, not the target.

So you see, as I have insisted a million times (I have been told a thousand times not to exaggerate) it is Culture that is important.

Think about it for a moment, do you now, or have you ever hated someone because of race, color, creed, religion (method of dress) or any other such reason? Or is that feature just an identifier that reminds you of what you have heard, read, and experienced in your lifetime, of someone who is identified in the same manner?

I know that when I see a beautiful lady, her beauty is the identifier, and I remember my Beautiful Sweetie, and I can think of all kinds of wonderful things.

Elder's book-Stupid Black Men
I must say that although I have not read the book, I think that Elder is right up to a certain point when he says that
" White racism no longer poses a major problem in America".
Yes, we all know that this Land is THE land of Freedom and unlimited possibilities for everyone..... We also know that some level of prejudice and discrimination exist in every country around the world. Something has shifted and has caused a negative change in the way thousands of black families in this country think, live and the conditions under which they live in their prospective environments. My question for Elder is this!! Has he performed an objective analysis with scientific evidence to show what caused the change from the slavery days to the days when Black people were free and began to educate themselves, to the days in which The then Peaceful black environments began to shift and now so many black men live in poverty, have lack of education, engage in drugs and violence?? Has anyone really done an objective study on what caused the Shift??? I sure hope that he answered this in his book. I sure hope that he objectively listed why Black people think the way they do now, and why they thought the way they did from the 1800's up to now. I think his book is a good one in that it should begin to provoke the minds of People into asking HOW and WHY did our community get here? They should then do an Objective study on the Black Population that actually rose above the challenges and made it today. What is/are the common denominators within the two different Black Americas???? The Key word Here is "Objective"!!!!
When these questions are answered, then the community should then find a solution that will bring about a positive change in the lives of so many Black men, women and children who think the way they do as indicated in the title of his book.

dixiecrat=republican
i would disagree that colin powell and john mccain are decent human beings. maybe condi so thats one.....there are no (NONE) decent democrats so we win 1 to nothing.

Anthony, It's Boo
Buy the book baby, for me?

wiseone - what an idiot!
wiseone implied that most of the Dixiecrats moved to the Democratic party. Wow, what an idiot!

Dixiecrat Party consisted entirely of white racist southerners.

"1948 electoral votes by state. The Dixiecrats carried Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and South Carolina, and received one additional electoral vote in Tennessee. The blue–red color scheme is opposite that adopted for more recent elections."

All of those states moved to the republican party.

WHY? Because of the evil Republican "Southern strategy"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_strategy

You people are so delusional, it feels like I'm in a bad episode of the twilight zone.
Where members of KKK are referring to blacks as racist. And members of the Aryan Nation are calling liberals Nazi/facist.

You people are either really evil or really stupid.

Ever Heard of Michael Moore?
Michael Moore had a huge best-seller with his book entitled "Stupid White Men". Not only was he NOT accused of being a racist, he was widely celebrated for his wit and insight.

To hold a black author to a different standard is, well, racist. Jim Crow.

"Stupid" is the key
Part of being accepted as full members of society is being open to the same kinds of criticism as anybody else. "Stupid" is an important modifier; it denotes that there is more than one kind of black man. The fact that one specific group is labeled "stupid" implies that being "stupid" is not the norm for black men. I can understand how this is a difficult concept for those who think that Jesse and Al are the best black America has to offer intellectually.

dixiecrap
you should cut down on your use of LSD. it makes your mind like an egg in a frying pan

The Types of Republicans
I don’t think all republicans are racists. I think there are different types of republicans. The racist republican, the rich republican and the environmentally infuenced republican. the racist republican of course speaks for itself. He or she is republican because he feels that party does not hold the best interest of african americans in any regard. This particular type of republican would rather suffer him or herself as a poor american than to see blacks progress in society. The rich republican is a republican for the obvious reasons…the tax cuts and benefits given to the rich and wealthy nothing more. The environmentally influenced republican is a republican because his or her peers are republican or he or she has been brainwashed by those around him. In other words, the particular company one keeps can also influence how one thinks. So know I don’t think all republicans are racist. They have different agendas. However, I do believe that the ones that are not racist have a selfish motive (rich and wealthy republican) or just clueless to the social woes and problems of society.

JAY 6:24 PM post.

The objective answer to your question... liberalism, and the cottage industry that drives it.

They deserve better.

Not All Dixiecrats Moved - Times Change
First, not all dixiecrats moved into the Republican party. You get some noteables like Strom Thurmond, but you also get your Robert Byrds.

Second, times have changed across the board for both parties. Elder is just right, racism is just not what it was back before I was born. I've been in Republican circles for 15 years and I don't see the racism that those who don't deal in these circles project onto the party.

I see differences in what Republicans believe about humanity, human impulses, how one balances the natural good and evil in human beings. I find Republicans (excepting evangelical types) to be just far more grounded in understanding of the human condition.

My reading and experience suggest that black people are caught up in the short-term promises that the democrat party offers to address our immediate material and psychic needs, the Republican party and principles, for me, are ones that address longterm needs -- how does a community really build a base for longterm development and prosperity. Republicans don't offer us magic bullets. I don't want magic bullets. The Republican party was founded as the antislavery party with these basic tenets: free speech, free soil, free labor, free men. Those principles led over 600,000 white men to kill each other. Minus free soil, this is the base of the Republican party that I respect. Just give me my chance, and let me keep the fruits of my labor. The party has been hijacked to some degree by those who might be considered religious conservatives. While I respect the consistency and commitment of this wing of the party, I'd only ask a little bit more tolerance for divergence from what are worthy ideals.

It was inevitable, given the environment that largely Republicans created at formative times in American history, that racism would be reduced to insignificance. Its those principles, and black folk and the Republicans need to get back to them.

Hey Dixie!
You're a hoot! I need to cover a wedding next Saturday, but I'm double-booked. Do you think your Mom would let you handle it for me? (Don't forget the tinfoil hat and the Karl Rove voodoo doll! Talk about crowd-pleasers!)

Thanks bunches!

"Michael Moore had a huge best-seller with his book entitled "Stupid White Men"."

Yeah, I remember that. Was that his autobiography? It must not have sold very many copies, since Moore evidently still can't afford to take a bath.

Bigotry Quiz
All right class, it's time for our Pop Quiz on Bigotry . . .

For these questions, consider this quote from the distinguished Anthony Thomas:

"Sharpton ignores that blacks sometimes have to take personal responsibility for some of their problems and shortcomings and blames most of the contemporary problems of blacks on racism and historical inequity.

Larry Elder ignores that the historic racism that blacks have experienced has genuinely affected blacks economically and psychologically, and blames most of the contemporary problems of blacks on lack of responsibility, and personal failures."

1. Between the problems of "historical inequity" and "personal failure", WHICH one can actually be CHANGED?

2. WHICH change offers the GREATER chance at LONG TERM SUCCESS?

For questions 3 and 4:

Suppose we have two identical twins:

Twin A solves his own self-inflicted problems, but fails to worry about all the pain and suffering his grandfather went through.

Twin B gets retribution for his grandfather's suffering and preferential treatment to make up for it, but completely ignores his own self-inflicted problems.

3. WHICH ONE is going to be wealthier in 10 years?

4. WHICH ONE is going to have wealthier grandchildren?

OK, you have twenty minutes . . .

Unca Alby -- Come on!
You should know that common sense is too complicated for the average liberal.

Racism in America
Racism still exists in America; the difference is racists have exchanged their hoods with suits.

"Truth"
Well there's an ironic moniker if I ever heard one!

You wouldn't know "truth" if it hired you to shake a sign on the corner.

Hey Unca Alby
I know! I know! I know the answer, quick point to me! me! me! me! me!, is it the phenomena called Reparations? Or should I answer in the form of a Jeopardy question.
