Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Is Elvira Arellano -- the recently deported Mexican illegal alien -- the new Rosa Parks?

Some of her supporters describe her this way. But Arellano's credentials as a "role model," to say the least, fall short. Indeed, even some "immigrant rights activists" find the comparison embarrassing. A check of the websites of The National Council of La Raza and the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund finds no statement one way or the other concerning Arellano.

Rosa Parks, a black woman, was born in 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama -- that is, Tuskegee, Alabama, United States of America. She thus entered life as an American citizen, but was denied the rights and protections afforded by the United States Constitution. Arellano sneaked into the country, not once, but twice, and defied a deportation order by receiving "sanctuary" for over a year in a Chicago church.

Arellano gave birth on American soil to a son, now 8. But she does not speak of his father. She condemns the U.S. government for "breaking up" her family because Saul (her son) remains in the United States while she reportedly lives with friends in Tijuana, Mexico. But Arellano chose to leave Saul behind, claiming that his Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder requires better medical care than provided in Mexico.

Arellano's justification for illegally crossing the border? "I came to the United States to work. I came because of what NAFTA and other U.S. economic policies have done to my country, in which I could no longer find work that paid a living wage." After her deportation to Mexico, she said, "The United States is the one who broke the law first. By letting people cross over [the border] without documents. By letting people pay taxes. . . . "

That's a new one.

As for the assertion that America "broke the law first," Arellano makes an interesting claim: the failure of America to effectively police its borders constitutes a criminal act that morally and legally justifies illegal entry into America. Arellano's insulting demands simply harden hearts. Instead of displaying even a hint of gratitude, she lectures American citizens that her son has the same rights as President Bush. Who said he didn't?

About NAFTA, most economists agree that it lessened the severity of several unrelated economic downturns, and, overall, improved the economic conditions in Mexico. A recent Investor's Business Daily editorial says that, post-NAFTA, "Mexicans find they have legitimate, legal jobs to do in Mexico . . . with the average Mexican income now at $7,000 -- the highest in Latin America -- average workers can earn nearly as much there as here."

The Mexican Senate greeted Arellano like a conquering hero. They immediately passed a measure demanding that the president of Mexico send a diplomatic note to President George W. Bush, protesting the deportation. Also, they promised to provide a scholarship for Arellano's son. (To be used where?)

Compared with nearly all European nations, America stands virtually alone in allowing children born on her soil by those who enter the country illegally to become citizens. Her son's status entitles him to all manner of state and federal programs, including taxpayer-provided K-12 education, and health and welfare benefits.

Despite the legal right to enter the Chicago church that provided "sanctuary" for Arellano for a year, authorities refused to enter. Immigration arrested her only after she left the church and after publicly announcing her intention to go to Washington and campaign for "immigrant rights." In Mexico, the law considers illegal entry a "crime punishable by up to 2 years in jail." Mexico forbids any illegal alien from participating in any sort of public demonstration. Years of corruption and bad economic policies have made poor a country rich in natural resources. Yet Arellano says nothing about Mexico, while blaming America for her "plight."

Some of us supported President Bush's approach for "comprehensive immigration reform" -- legalizing the status of most of those here illegally; a temporary worker program to take pressure off the border and especially to provide workers for industries like agriculture; a pathway to citizenship, providing applicants meet certain criteria; and an end to chain migration (the practice of allowing citizens to sponsor relatives for admittance, beyond spouses and minor children). It also makes sense to withhold federal funds from local law enforcement if they refuse to notify Immigration of the status of arrested illegal aliens. For those who enter the country illegally, the 14th Amendment should be amended to prevent so-called "anchor babies." We can then direct the finite resources of government to locating and expelling dangerous aliens. This makes political and practical sense.

Chest-thumping aliens like Arellano simply undermine their own cause.

anchor babies
For those who enter the country illegally, the 14th Amendment should be amended to prevent so-called "anchor babies.
I agree, amd it should be grandfathered in.
Nobody should ever be rewarded for breaking our laws.

Immigration and Deportation
Bullcrap, Shes a idiot and she is no Rosa Parks. Amnesty should never be given to anyone who comes across our Borders Illegally. Nor should Children who are born here by Illegal Aliens become American Citizens. Now she thinks that she should become a Peace Ambassador to the United States. This is unacceptable to the American people and will cause an uprising that the world will hear.

We can forgive ...
...the arrogance. We can forgive the hypocrisy. She is, after all, only human, and we lot are subject to such self-righteous vices. What we cannot forgive is the breaking of the law. Her attitude is irrelevant. We are not her confessors. Her behavior is what counts, and it is unlawful -- not in an incidental way, like not paying the parking meter, and not in a meaningless way, like some outmoded law about how fast you can ride your horse down Main Street. It's unlawful in a way that destroys the very idea of national sovereignty.

As a federal republic, citizens and only citizens have a right to determine public policy. Ms. Arellano has seen fit to declare herself about Congress and the Executive Branch of our government. Some of us find this idea both absurd and offensive.

Allow me to commend my own little post in this issue.

http://forgottenprophets.blogspot.com/2007/08/b***tch.html

The "b***tch" in that link is actually a five-letter word which may suggest itself to you. TH refuses to post this as the word is actually spelled. Please don't misconstrue the vulgarity of the title as anti-female. It just seems the most apt description of someone who deports herself ... I mean *comports* herself as Ms. Arellano has done.

J

So let's actually do something
It is our fault that she could sneak in so easily.

Build the fence. There can be no immigration policy without border control.

Everybody Else Does!
Mama taught us early on that Everybody Else Does is not a defence. As you probably heard in a regionally-corrected format from your own Mama, the answer to that protest is “If everybody else held hands and jumped off the George Washington Bridge, I guess you would want to be right there too.” (This defence never worked for Daddy when he was stopped for speeding either -- somehow the officer seemed unmoved by the fact that everybody else on Interstate 81 was speeding, too...)

One way that Rosa Parks and this border jumping criminal are probably alike, although it is a minor point, is that Rosa Parks was a plant, placed on that bus in hopes she would be Offended and thus a trigger for the Bus Boycott that set off the riots. Although I do not believe Mrs. Parks was a dupe, and I do believe that this border jumper is a dupe, they were both used and manipulated by people with an agenda. If she were not stupid, she would never have agreed to it and perhaps she would still be trapped in her hide-out in Chicago.

Absurdity
The absurdity of Ms,Arellano's claims "The United States is the one who broke the law first. By letting people cross over [the border] without documents" is like the burglar saying "it's your fault, I stole your silverware, because you left your back door unlocked.'

She is also guilty of the crime of identity theft ( stealing someone's Social Security Number, but she must have had her get of jail free card this time, too.

smokeykhan
So ok, smokey. Just what natural law are you defending? The law of gravity? Just what so-called Natural Rights are at issue here? She broke a political/governmental law. These laws may be wrong. It took a war to change the laws about gassing Jews in Hitler's Germany. But border control laws in this country can be changed by expressed will of the population. Try breaking Mexico's border control laws and see what happens.

14th Amendment
The 14th Amendment doesn't need an amendment. It needs Federal judges to read it without imposing their own ideology. The "jurisdiction" language in the Amendment was put there so that babies of visitors would not be citizens. All it took was a Federal judge to decide that the Amendment meant something else.

I do agree that we'd be better off amending the Constitution however, to specifically exclude babies not born of American citizens. I'm afraid even if we do that, some Federal judge will rule that we really didn't mean it.

While we're at it, maybe we can further define "Public Use" and "Free speech" so that we can overturn the despicable Kelo and McCain-Feingold rulings by more Liberal judges. Has anyone heard any member of Congress suggest amending the Constitution to give us back our property rights and free speech? No, I haven't either.

Correction
I meant to say "babies not born of American citizens". My bad.

Correction
Sorry, I meant to say, "babies not born of American citizens".

the Mexican Senate
I thank you, Larry Elder for an article that I absolutely agree with.I do however have one problem with your story, in your inclusion of the information that the Mexican Senate greeted Arellano like a conquering hero and immediately passed a measure demanding that the president of Mexico send a diplomatic note to President George W. Bush, protesting the deportation. I rarely laugh with the velocity those statements caused. I nearly choked and spit my coffee all over my computer screen. It was only after I dried my eyes and my mind cleared that the seriousness of their reaction hit me. Instead of telling this woman she broke the laws that they themselves inforce in their country they want their president to tell our president he was unfair, and should have let her stay? I think they should tell their president to give this poor woman a job so she can raise her child in Mexico with her and they can spend their scholarship money they promised right there in their own country. I think I'll write to my president and ask him to tell their president that. I also think that if they have enough money to be handing out scholarships they can also help pay for the fence!

So Close Yet So Far
Larry, Larry, Larry, just when I thought that you had finally gotten one right concerning illegal "immigration" you had to throw in that last paragraph touting the virtues of Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

Let me take particular issue with just one component of that paragraph...

"We can then direct the finite resources of government to locating and expelling dangerous aliens." I couldn't disagree more. Increased resources need to be brought against all illegal aliens - dangerous or otherwise. If we only direct our resources towards those deemed dangerous then the invasion continues unabated. That would be a green light to every illegal wannabe that so long as you don't engage in dangerous behavior nobody's gonna mess with you. If the IRS only went after the fat cats, CEO's, organized crime, and other powerful & dangerous individuals what kind of compliance would the rest of us average Joe's follow when filing our taxes?

While many illegals may not be dangerous they are still guilty of a whole host of other crimes such as identity theft, SS fraud, and tax fraud -- crimes that would land you and I in jail. The entire ethnic enclaves of largely illegal aliens that have sprung up across this country are the cover, fortress, and home base for the dangerous aliens among them. To get to them you have to destroy the whole rotten house from where they operate.

Elvira...
I think I have a solution. Have our Mexican President demand that Mexico's Mexican President that for every illegal we give amnesty to, Mexico will reciprocate by giving amnesty to an American citizen. This means they get all the same benefits that have been dished out to illegals here. Bet that would stop the invasion.

As far as the Mexican "Rosa Parks" she is a felon, a freeloader, one who deliberatly had an anchor baby and who set out to defraud this country in any way she could. Who's paying for little Saul's ADHD treatments. Surprise! It's probably us. What country will we adopt next? Pray for a leader in'08 who will rid out country of all illegals. Mexico can well stand on its own feet. They are just used to being baby-sat by this idiotic administration and several before.

Good Article but moot point
You make the point that some people supported Jorge on the immigration reform. I haven't met but maybe 1 or 2 people that have said they were for that bill. I have met many illegals and a few legal immigrants that supported it. So I believe your statment is moot.

Also in that immigration bill was the SPP which would have paved the way for the NAU which would have eliminated all borders. You see the American people woke up to that. They may not have if not for the awful way the bill was presented. Presented to legalise criminals while claiming that it would help make the borders safer when they tack on an SPP nugget that would have-in years-completely sold out the Soverinty of this country.

If this lady comes back to this country as a susposed mouthpiece of peace from Mexico. She will not only be laughed at but scorned for leaving her kid here to try to make people sympathise with her and allow her back. Nope sorry 2 time convicted felon in this country you had no rights in the first place and do not deserve any for any reason in this country ever! She represents all we hate about the ideas and the mindset of illegals no matter where there from!

smokeykhan writes:
This includes denying other people the fruits of their labor.

Does this apply to the rights of a strike breaker to take the job of a union worker fighting for a decent wage? You knee jerk immigrant supporters need to look past the immediate feel good impulse to align yourselves with the minorities. It's your children and grandchildren who are going to pay the price for lack of enforcement. As my mom says "you pay for the sins of your fathers". If this isn't stopped America as we know it will cease to exist.

It's Simple
All we have to do is:
1- Build the fence
2- End birthright citizenship/anchor babies
3- Tax the remittances
Make life a little difficult for these parasites and they will leave.

Elvira Arellano is
no Rosa Parks! To make the comparison is ridiculous. As Mr. Elder points out Rosa Parks was a LEGAL CITIZEN or the U.S.

I notice no one like Sharpton or Jackson are speaking out against the comparison of a criminal (illegally entered twice, and used stolen/fake ID in order o work) to Rosa Parks.

If the country of Mexico is treating her so well for her actions it just proves the extent of the intentions of the Mexican Government to undermine the U.S.'s sovereignty. For that alone all treaties should be ended.

The ONLY point which Elvira Arellano is right about is that the U.S. government broke the law first. They failed to uphold and enforce our laws regarding border security, illegal entry/residence, and regulated legal immigration. For that those in office should be held accountable. That in no way justifies her illegal actions.

Two wrongs do not make a right.

To show your opinion on this issue check out the shirt "Legals Welcome" at http://www.spreadshirt.com/shop.php?sid=137143. It reads; Legal Immigrants Welcome Illegal Aliens go home!

No Rosa Parks
No Comparison, NUFF SAID.
We are a nation of immigrants, but charity starts at home!
1) NO AMMNESTY, IT DID NOT WORK IN 1986...THAT’S WHY WE ARE DEALING WITH IT AGAIN!!!
2) REPEAL THE 14TH AMMENDMENT... IT WAS FOR CHILDREN OF NEWLY FREED SLAVES, AND RIGHTFULLY SO, NOT FOR EVERY PERSON WHO JUST SO HAPPENS TO COME HERE AND DROP A BABY!!!
3) 29% OF U.S. PRISON POPULATION IS ILLEGAL ALIENS, JAIL OVERCROWDING DUH!!!
4) 21,000 GANGS IN THE U.S.... HISPANIC GANG MEMBERSHIP AS HIGH AS 60% ILLEGAL ALIENS!!! GO FIGURE...
5) 70 BILLION, SENT TO MEXICO LAST YEAR... WHAT A WONDERFULL BOOST TO THIER ECONOMY.
6) MEXICO, 5TH RICHEST NATION IN THE WORLD!!! WHERE 80% OF THE POPULATION LIVES ON LESS THAN $4.00 A DAY... FOLLOW THE MONEY!!! IT'S NO WONDER THEY CAN AFFORD A FULL SCHOLARSHIP... DO SOMETHING FOR THE REST OF YOUR PEOPLE...

Sad but not surprising
Elvira wants something for nothing. Like many in the "me, me, me" culture we've sadly nurtured, she wants her slice of the pie without working for anything. She wants to complain rather than work, and the Mexican government calls her a hero.

Let's make this easy on ourselves - build the damn fence, enforce labor laws, double or triple the number of visas offered for industries truly in need of labor help. Instead, we get John Edwards talking about taking SUV's away. Where are our priorities?

The Analogy is Offesive
For Elvira Arellano to be the Mexican equivalent of Rosa Parks, she would have had to stay in Mexico and protest her own country's record on and attitude toward illegal immigrants.

Rosa Parks did not go to Canada and protest the treatments of blacks there. She stayed where the problem was and fought against it. The people who make this comparison do a great disservice to a brave woman in order to honor a common criminal whose only interest is in herself. Arellano is a fraud on every level.

Hypocrisy
(1) The Mexican Senate greeted Arellano like a conquering hero. They immediately passed a measure demanding that the president of Mexico send a diplomatic note to President George W. Bush, protesting the deportation.

(2) In Mexico, the law considers illegal entry a "crime punishable by up to 2 years in jail." Mexico forbids any illegal alien from participating in any sort of public demonstration.

It would seem that hypocrisy is not endemic to the USA.

What part of "illegal" in "illegal alien" is most difficult to understand?

Vote
In order to get the fence build and the government to enforce the laws we need a president that is not affilated with the CFR as they are the group pushing the hardest for One World Government and an end to all borders.

We need a president with a proven track record of voting agains Amnesty! A president that wants to maintain the rule of law and bring back Habeas Corpus and reinstitute Posse Comitatus so the government can't police its citizens under Martial law or any other time. A president who worked for a living and earned his way to a career and who wasn't born rich with elite morals taught to him.

A man named Ron Paul is the man who can do all of that. With the Demos you get universal everything and more government. With most Repubs you get lies and wars and the selling out of America. Ron Paul is the only Constitutinalists supporter left in the Repubs arsenal. They don't call him Dr. No on Capitol Hill for nothing. Vote Ron Paul 2008 and end the southen invasion!

Shame
Rosa Parks was not an acknowledged criminal that commits identity theft and then justifies it because she deserves to be able to steal someone's identity to better her own.

The single fact that the GOVERNMENT of Mexico is providing aid and validity to this identity thief's arguments proves that the rule of law does not apply in that country. If this person with no education and admitted intention to destroy the law of America is allowed back into our country as a diplomat we are incurring terrorist criminals at the expense of our citizenry.

Her son should be taken from the other family members and adopted to an American couple that will not abuse his life in order to be a futuristic hippie.

Elvira has petitioned
the Mexican government to be appointed an ambassador to the U.S.. The woman is insane. I only hope the Mexican government has more sense than to accede to her demands.

Arellano
as Rosa Parks? Not even close! Another arrogant illegal making presumptions.

rosa parks vs. ms. arellano
Rosa Parks, whether or not she was "planted" as a symbol, was and is a HERO to ALL americans, of all races, because she showed the courage and will to stand up (or NOT to stand up, in this case) for basic human decency in challenging an absurd law. She was ready and willing to face the consequences of her actions, did not seek sanctuary, and neither hurt nor stole from anyone.
Ms. Arellano, on the other hand, stole someone's identity in getting a false social security card, snuck into the country illegally, used up finite church resources which could have benefited americans, and is unrepentant.
Her refusal to name her child's father, unwillingness to learn English or teach her son the language, and callous abandonment of the child to the pastor show disregard for her child's wellbeing AND unwillingness to assimilate. She made her bed, now she can lie in it.
Do not besmirch the memory of a great american, Rosa Parks, by comparing her to this fraudulent interloper.

Larry, a couple of things
Most Americans could not stand the Comp Imm Reform as offered by congress...Most citizens are smart enough to reconize a bad deal when they see it.

Point 1...her son might be a perfect test case for the 14th amendment...the amendment has never been tested as to allow children born of illegals to have full citizenship, as the illegals really aren't under the jurstiction of the US govern.

Point 2.. We do not need comp reform to allow ag business access to cheap labor...Ag permits are unlimited..the farmers only have to show the need and the state deptarment will issue the permits. Of course, the only problem with that is, the farmers have to follow guidelines in the hiring, housing, transportation and treatment of the Ag workers in this program which they don't have to follow with illegals.

illegals
To add food for thought regarding illegal aliens, I propose all social security contributions under wrong/stolen numbers be credited to legal holder of that soc.sec. number, without the unreceived income being taxable to the victims of identity theft. I suggest ALL Western union, bank transfer, etc. remittances to foreign countries by anyone who cannot prove citizenship or legal immigrant/visa status be slapped with a 90% surcharge (in secret so the senders don't realize it).
Immediate repeal or adjustment of the 14th amendment. Complete government seizure of ANY assets, including automobiles, jewelry, cash, etc. in the possession of an illegal stopped for a traffic ticket, arrested for any crime, or detained in any way.
Perhaps an indelible tattoo could be applied to the forehead of every illegal caught in the country, to make them easily visible and unemployable in the future.
Just a ferw ideas for discussion...

Smokekhan
Please define Natural Rights...

Can I move into your house under NR??

Can I take your wife if I can muscle my past you??

Can I take what's yours just because I can??

Borders, whether you like it or not, define countries..this has been established worldwide.. We can allow immigration, if we like, we can restrict it if we choose to, also. All countries have the right to repell invaders. This is our country, not the world's country..don't you understand that..It is neither immoral nor illegal to restrict entry into the country.

"Comprehensive" advocates don't
...comprehend.

About an hour ago, a bearded anglo male came to my door. He wanted to cut the tree in front of my house. I would not shake his hand, I would not listen to his pitch. As he walked off, he flipped me the bird... and I shouted at him, "if you don't want me to be rude.... LOSE THE SHIRT!"

The shirt had a picture of what looked like Che Guivara and said, "Viva Mexico".

I admit his walking through my rose bushes first put me off. (and remember when a man would take his sunglasses off when he introduced himself?)
Americans, now deprived of the strong education we once received, have become the most malleable population on the planet.

I don't imagine, however, that Arellano will be able to do any more harm to the U.S. than did Rosa Parks.

let's keep it simple and answer
the question.

"The Mexican Rosa Parks?"

no

Was Rosa Parks a Criminal?
It is easy now to say that Rosa Parks is an American hero and that she was right to stand-up for her constitutional rights. It would not have been so easy to say that back in 1955.

Indeed, by refusing to give-up her seat to a white man in 1955 Ms. Parks became a criminal. She openly and brazenly broke the laws of the United States and the State of Alabama. Moreover, the laws she defied were far from unpopular. These were laws that southernerns swore to defend to the death. In fact, it took a bus boycot that lasted 381 days for the City of Montgomery to change its rules, and it did so only when it had no other economic choice.

Further, the claim that Ms. Parks was defending her constitutional rights can only be made with hindsight. The Supreme Court had ruled in Plessy v. Ferguson that "separate but equal" was okay. And, Brown v. Board applied only to education. Southerners vehemently denied that Jim Crow violated the U.S. Constitution and believed that how colored people were treated was none of Washingtons business in any event.

Rosa Parks broke the law and became a criminal because she thought that the law was wrong. I don't think there is any question today that she was right. But lets not pretend that she was not derided as a law breaker back then by the overwhelming majority of white southerners.

So, is Ms. Arellano a hero like Rosa Parks or a law breaker. Only time will tell.

So, BIll...
..at sometime in the future you really believe that borders and immigration issues will all be proven to be unlawful unless they allow for total and unrestricted free movement between countries????

I don't think that will ever EVER HAPPEN...

Bill
Times up !!

Elvira is an opportunist
and nothing more. She openly commits crimes and wants hero worship for the action. She is a tiny little blip on a very big screen and these are her 15 minutes of fame.

Meanwhile, we continue to need a government with backbone. I agree with those who have said -- build the fence, prosecute the criminals, cut off the supply of jobs, and many more blips will go away.

Mexico
Is VERY tough on anyone entering their country illegally. You are deported immediately.

DavidM
In mexico you are subject to 2 years in the can..and of course you are charged for your stay there also.

To answer the question...
No. To equate this parasite to someone born in the U.S. and fought for hers and others equal treatment is ridiculous. I have no sympathy for her at all. See has not put one drop of effort into becoming legal but just wants the benefits. An uneduated person as ambassador from Mexico? Why doesn't she just run for El Presidente?
As far as the continuing problem: enforce the current laws dealing with illegal immigrants. Why enact new laws when we can't even enforce the ones we have? Go after the employers and stop providing areas for "day laborers". Go look at the Reno DMV. Hundreds standing around right in front of a State agency! It should also be illegal for groups, such as Border Angels, to place watering stations with maps in the desert. What next? A shuttle bus?

She is
A mexican Cindy Sheehan!!

Guns
Good job raising a straw man argument and knocking it down. I am not saying that "borders" are unlawful. They are what makes a country a country. What I am saying is that community values change and the question of whether, in the long run, people will believe that it was okay (or not) to defy a particular law is directly corelated to the change of those values.

Of course borders will not disappear; but maybe someday people may consider laws that do not permit mothers of U.S. citizens to remain with their minor children wrong. Or, people may believe that preventing willing employers from hiring willing workers is wrong. If that occurs, no one will consider illegals to be terrible criminal law breakers in the future. Rather, they will be considered the pioneers of change.

Let's take Europe as an example. Fifty years ago no Frenchmen or German would have agreed that it was in his best interests to allow the free flow of labor through out Europe. They would likely have believed that German jobs should be for Germans alone. Now, the free flow of labor through out Europe is accepted by all Europeans as a good thing.

Will there ever be unfettered movement of people between countries, probably not. But there is simply no way to determine today how history will view hysterical people like yourself screaming about illegal immigration. The fact of the matter is that Southerners were pretty sure that Jim Crow would live forever, and they were just wrong.

Despicable
Those who presume to compare a wanton lawbreaker trying to game the system with a woman who was discriminate against her whole life and whose to stay seated when she'd finally had enough (too much) are despicable.

Instead of trying to be the "next Rosa Parks" Arellano should try to do a better job of being herself.

Wiseone
should be deported on the grounds that he has probably lived here his entire life and yet he does not know how to write in English. Dios Mio! (Don't worry if you can't read those last two words Wiseone, they are Spanish.)

SO, Bill again..
.. you advocate no borders, free flow of jobs money etc..no country has rights as it purtains to its borders??

Nice assumption, Bill
You assume that we seperated a mother from her citizen son, she seperated herself. She could have taken her son with her to Mexico, she chose not to. Her son may or may not be a citizen, bepending on how a future court might rule on the "under the juristiction of" clause in the 14th amendment, that is if want to look into the future and how a community might view it.

Excuse me all to heck Bill ...
... for failing to proofread.

Those who presume to compare a wanton lawbreaker trying to game the system with a woman who was discriminated against her whole life and who had the courage to stay seated when she'd finally had enough (too much) are despicable.

Instead of trying to be the "next Rosa Parks" Arellano should try to do a better job of being herself.

And guys like Bill, who pick nits and take cheap shots because they have no real counter-argument should forever remain in the US and on sites like TownHall as enduring reminders to the rest of us of what we should never allow ourselves to become.

Is that English proper enough your lordship?

PS I daresay I know Spanish far better than Elvira knows English. And I don't even want to live in Mexico.

Once again,
I do not advocate "no borders." I think borders are essential. And, I also believe that countries have the right to determine who or what should come through its borders. Will you stop with your straw men arguments. What I am saying is that what citizens consider to be acceptable with respect to those borders will change over time, and that will affect how people will view current policy. Is that so hard to understand?

By the way Wiseman, your email proves me point. People think that Rosa Parks was courageous because she was on the winning side of history. If not, she would have been seen as a lawless protestor that was rightly arrested and put down by the government. I'll bet you that Rosa Parks was called a few choice names by upstanding citizens just like you in the editorial pages of the Montgomery Alabama newpaper back in 1955.

In time you ask Bill?
She will still be remembered as a criminal if for no other reason that she committed Identity Theft. You do understand that, right Bill? She stole the ID of an American citizen for her own selfish ends. Just like her selfish desire to leave her son in America, where his citizen status is debatable, instead of taking him to Mexico where, as a minor child born to a Mexican citizen abroad, he is in fact a citizen.

She does not want to be a citizen, referred to Mexico as her country, and neither she nor her 8 yr old son can speak English. No, she will always be seen as a criminal (felon) at best and at worst, an invader.

Jack H
Tried to post to your blog on the b**tch, but it won't let me. Tried all three methods and no luck. Don't know what the problem is, but you may get more responses if you try for yourself, and just imagine you are any dope who comes along. For instance, PASS WORD.??. Or even anonymous or the 2nd option, who knows. Rather disappointing after writing for several minutes.

Ya wanna talk about what's offensive?

The slightest notion that Elvira is the Mexican Rosa Parks is offensive to any American... or at least it should be!

Elvira is lucky that she was deported, rather than doing time for her crimes.

I got it, Bill
I understand you now, Bill. We shouldn't judge someone too harshly at this time and place in history, lest we be judged harshly in the future by our more (or less) enlightened offspring..is that it, Bill?? If that is what you mean, we shouldn't do anything at all, right or wrong, because nothing is ever gonna be perfect w/ 20/20 hindsight..

What a joke...

Calm down 2 Guns
before you explode and get blown all the way to Mexico!

No, Bill
It is you who prove the conservative point.

Any con who wants laws enforced universally and objectively is accused of being a bigot when such laws work against any individual who is a member of some self-proclaimed minority victim group.

Parks disobeyed a bigotted law. The law Arellano violated is colorblind. But arrogant poseurs such as you presume to equate Arellano's opportunism with Parks' courage. And the moral relativism you use to justify this equation is based entirely on the false premise and accusation of bigotry.

Given the serious consequences befalling anyone in our society who has been judged to be a bigot, especially in the eyes of the left, there is an inherent obligation to make such an assessment with great circumspection, and to have reasonable, specific evidence before casting such an aspersion.

Instead liberals brand entire groups of people as bigots with their broad brushes, their moral relativism, and their gratuitous, false comparisons of selfish criminals to courageous historical figures.

The law Parks defied would be ruled unconstitutional today. Can you say the same about the law that has been used to deport Arellano?

Or maybe you can tell us which KKK member Elvira Arellano stared down in person with nothing but her courage and her determination to back her up.

I had never heard of Rosa Parks
until I came to this country, but from what I've come to understand she acted out of a sense of moral outrage. My question is--to all who proclaim her virtues--On what moral ground does this Elvira woman stand?

MotleyCrue: No moral ground! None! Zero!

MotleyCrue: No moral ground! None! Zero!

Sorry for the double posts. :-(
Don't know why that happens sometimes.

wiseone
How do you know I am liberal? (I'm not). How do you know that I think you are bigotted? (I don't) When did I try to paint you with a "broad brush?" Is it not you that are making assumptions about me? Btw, your response was very well written. I take back my call for your deportation.

Anne.
My question was rhetorical, of course, but you're absolutely right. Coming here, I was fortunate enough to have dual citizenship; American and British. But even so, I would never have dreamed of stealing someone else's identity. It is noticeable that she and her supporters adroitly manage to skirt that issue, as well as the issue of her out-of-wedlock child. Evidently, she is the second coming of the virgin Mary.

Who wants to wager?
That in Tijuana, Elvira will become pregnant again and dump another child here?

Bill
I will waste no more of my time with you.

I did not call you a liberal. I called you an arrogant poseur. I ascribed certain behavior to "liberals" and certain attitudes to "the left". If you have these attitudes or engage in such behavior and therefore interpreted that I called you a liberal that is on you.

By the very act of presuming to compare Arellano to Parks those who do so are engaging in "broad brush" accusations of bigotry against those of us who want her deported. Parks was a victim of the residue of slavery; segregation and racism.

But Arellano is not a 'victim' of anything other than the pitfalls of her own opportunism and disrespect for the very American people she now appeals to for 'justice' as she selfishly defines it.

illegals and libs
as long as the PC libs continue to insist all cultures are equal there will be no insistence that thesew illegals will ever work at assimilation or citizenship. Arellano was here for years yet refused to learn to speak english. She stole someone's identity who according to some sources was billed $15,000. by illegals using her number and not paying taxers. Allegedly arellano used her number and claimed 9 dependents to pay the absolute minimum ss taxes. Until the fence is built immigration reform is useless. To be effective everything must be done in steps, so first the fence then the deportation should begin. But speaking of rosa parks where was the outcry from the blacks. My guess is that amongst the black community rosa parks is no longer held in high esteem as witnessed by the fact that in her later years she was the victim of some punk robbing her in detroit. rosa parks took a brave stand to fight jim crow laws and segregation at serious risk to her own own. These illegals steal across our border, rob our social services and demand rights. rosa parks was heroic for her stands against segregation. arellano is no more than a common crook and an arrogant one at that

MotleyCrue: Yes, I suspected your

question was rhetorical, but you made such a good point that I wanted to EMPHASISE it.

Excellent call! :-)

Shells: Okay, you're on! $.25

(You know what a gambling problem I have! Such a big spender at the $.25 one armed bandit, three or four times in Atlantic City. LOL)

"That in Tijuana, Elvira will become pregnant again and dump another child here?"

But wait! I think you're right! You're looking for someone to bet that she doesn't!

Never mind! LOL

Oh, and by the way, Elder did another

excellent job. He never misses the point!!!!!

Rosa Parks
Anyone care to guess how many Social Security numbers she stole?

I believe it is an integer between -1 and 1.

Normal Leftie Charade
Find a cute kid that managed to slip past the abortionist's vaccuum, and hold him up to guilt-trip people into siding with you.

The ploy is old, gang, and we are not buying the false sympathy for the ankle-biters.

And did anyone get a gander at that minister from the Chicago where Elvira was holed up?

A more rabid Leftie activist I never saw.

inconvenient truths and questions
... and good column.

Arellano has been an ILLEGAL alien, now twice properly deported. Typically, she lied and deceived and broke the law to come and stay here, then spawned an illegitimate child that we unfortunately call an American citizen, though we should reinterpret that-- those here ILLEGALLY should not be considered "subject to our jurisdiction"-- just like children born here of diplomats. Why do apologists for ILLEGALS conveniently overlook the absence of a father in this saga? Should a church be allowed to flaunt violating the law? What does it say that Mexico celebrates her as a hero, even as Geraldo and Smilin' Juan Hernandez tell us that Mexico is our good friend? Should a "good friend" counsel its indigent, uneducated citizens on how to invade America, milk its social services, and send ill-gotten funds back southward to Mexico?

Some bemoan her being separated from her spawn, but she was free to take him with her to their proper home in Mexico. Pretty bold of her to blame America for allowing ILLEGALS to crash the border, but it is true that Presidente Jorge and too many other enablers in Washington with acute myopia aid and abet the ILLEGAL invasion with willful nonfeasance.

If we are not careful, America will erode into a third worl entitlement state. Time is short; insist that our pols enforce existing laws and preserve our culture, heritage, and socio-economic well-being.

My apologies for the difficulty posting on my nasty "b***tch" post. This is the first I've heard of the problem. For all I know, it happens all the time. God hates me. It's what I deserve, for using a title like ... well, you know.

I'll look into it.

no sympathy, none...
First of all, no foreign government should be undermining our ability to secure and protect our identity, borders and soveriegnty.
Mexico's demands are outrageous, yet what do WE really get out of it? The President has all the spine of Jell-O when dealing with government South of the border, but he's been quite firm in denying gay, tax paying citizens (and his voting base also) full equality.
His support of these policies makes fools of all of us. Especially post 9/11. Bush and his cronies and corporate lobbies for this outrage, mock the soldiers dying in Iraq. It mocks those who struggled to be legally here and it mocks the victims of all manner of exponential crimes committed by illegal aliens, no matter where they come from.
This is still a young country, all things considered. And we are losing it and balkanizing it with people who have no respect for it.
Let the Elvira Arellanos of the world make MEXICO give her what she deserves. Blacks were a small minority here and got what they deserved by taking considerable risks to get it.
Every last illegal alien's cue should be done that way. Not from the safety and generosity of this country.

he's my friend, but...
Larry and I are friends who go way back. I don't always agree with him. And this so called 'comprehensive immigration reform' is one of them.
We don't need no stinking comprehensive immigration reform. What we need is the full force of current immigration laws to be enforced. Our laws are already far more generous than any other nation in the world.
And if by sheer numbers, there is a log jam of legal applicants to be expedited, that's not a promblem that a person who happens to be impatient can circumvent. Period.
I wanted to move and live in France. And a friend of mine just did it.
I have spent many years studying French and I have excellent skill in that language. I also have other skills that I would bring to France. And don't have children and won't be having any.
I have been a guest worker in foreign countries myself, anywhere from two weeks to four months. And I never dreamed of overstaying my visa, no matter how much I loved my host country.
So, no sympathy from me, for illegal aliens. Especially the unmotivated, those that don't plan a family around their means to support one independently or those of criminal intent, who killed four friends of mine, including a three year old boy...on 9/11.

Arellano as ambassador - NOT!!!
Unless our current administration continues its
downward spiral into complete and utter stupidity,
I don't see how Arellano could possibly be
accepted as ambassador to the U.S. She has
already been declared persona non grata by
the simple act of deportation.

Bill,
did you say that most Europeans would agree that unfettered immigration was a good thing? What planet are you living on? European countries are being forced to recognize that allowing cheap labor from muslim states has resulted in a total break down of law.

In France Muslims have closed their neighborhoods to outsiders. That means that police don't go there unless they go in force. muslims are raping women, killing people who they see as insulting Allah, and saying clearly that they recognize only Sharia law in their neighborhoods.

Where were you when the bombs were planted on the buses in Paris? Wait! You just can't be serious. If you are, you are mentally deranged.

Elvira Arellano is correct
to blame US laws for her ugly situation.

As she correctly observes: "The United States is the one who broke the law first. By letting people cross over [the border] without documents. By letting people pay taxes. . . . "

What we are not fully appreciating here is her cry for help:
"Step me before I cross the border again!"

What caring American could resist such a plea?

P.S. Her request for a gig as a Mexican Ambasaador reminds me of the equally valid attempt by James Brown when arrested after a police chase in Augusta.
He claimed that, since the State of Georgia had declared him "The Ambassador of Soul" in an official proclamation, he had "diplomatic imunity" and thus should be released.
It didn't work then, either.

Correction
Should have been:

"Stop me before I cross the border again!" (Not "step")

We're still waiting for a list of your "natural rights." I don't think you mean life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, because none of that includes Elvira Arellano violating our borders and stealing someone's identity. I'm really anxious to see how that list reconciles with "Expect to face my shotgun if you try to break into my house and take my property or harm my family." Elvira broke into this country, took from us and did us harm.

May I make a suggestion to everyone? I don't know why these double posts are happening, but making a THIRD post saying you don't know why they're happening seems kind of a waste, and just adds more clutter...
