Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Now it can be told. The Democrats do have a plan for victory in Iraq. It is as simple as it is brilliant -- confuse, confound and surprise the enemy.

[Voting for the joint resolution to give Bush authority to use force against Saddam Hussein was] the hardest decision I've ever had to make, but I cast it with conviction. I want this president, or any future president, to be in the strongest possible position to lead our country, at the United Nations or at war. -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., Oct. 10, 2002

But didn't the House just vote on a resolution opposing the president's plan to increase troop levels in Iraq? And didn't all of the Democratic senators -- in office at the time -- now running for president, also vote for the 2002 joint resolution authorizing the war? Yet all of these senators now support some form of withdrawal by a date certain. Talk about keeping our enemies off-balance.

What I have said is that I do think we need more troops. -- Sen. Clinton, Dec. 7, 2003

But didn't the Senate vote unanimously -- 81 to 0 -- to confirm Gen. David Petraeus as the new top military commander in Iraq? And doesn't Patraeus support the president's plan to increase the troop levels, calling this "surge" necessary to achieve our objectives? Yet the very same Democrats -- with some Republicans -- who voted for Patraeus oppose the plan to achieve his and the president's stated objectives. Right now, somewhere in Iraq, a confused al Qaeda sympathizer must be saying, "No government could be that dysfunctional."

[Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld] did not go into Iraq with enough troops to establish law and order. -- Sen. Clinton, Aug. 3, 2006

After last year's election, voters threw out the Republicans and put Democrats in charge of both the House and Senate. Democrats called this a referendum on the war in Iraq, and argued that voters wanted the troops out. But didn't a recent CBS poll find 50 percent of Americans actually positive over the "long-term prospects" for success in Iraq? Only 8 percent of Americans wanted to "Block all funding" for the troops. As to the anti-surge non-binding resolution, 45 percent said Congress should not pass it, versus 44 percent that said Congress should. As to troop levels, only 28 percent called for a removal of all troops in Iraq.

Rather than escalation of U.S. troops -- which I do not believe will contribute to long-term success in Iraq -- we should begin a phased redeployment of U.S. troops as a way to put pressure on the Iraqi government to take responsibility for its own security and future. -- Sen. Clinton, Jan. 17, 2007

But when a recent Investor's Business Daily/TIPP poll asked Americans, "How important is a U.S. victory in Iraq?" 42 percent said, "Very important," and 24 percent said, "Somewhat important." Only 13 percent said, "Not at all important." Yet 70-some House Democrats -- in an act of true genius designed to keep the enemy off-guard -- formed the Out of Iraq Caucus, to erroneously convey the impression that this reflected popular American sentiment.

Meanwhile, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa. (who also voted for the war), purports to want to go even further. He actually brags about a back-door scheme to cut off funding: "They won't be able to continue. They won't be able to do the deployment. They won't have the equipment, they don't have the training and they won't be able to do the work." Our enemies' heads must be spinning.

If I had been president in 2003, I never would have started this war, and if it is still going on when I am president in 2009, I will end it. -- Sen. Clinton, Feb. 12, 2007

So, there we have it. Congress -- with substantial Democratic support -- votes to authorize the war. Many of the same people who voted for the war now oppose it. So they pass a resolution, non-binding, and therefore lacking any legal ability to stop a troop increase. The Senate unanimously confirms, as top commander in Iraq, a new general with counter-insurgence expertise -- then opposes the very troop increase that he supports. Democrats, with some Republicans, assert that last year's election showed Americans want out of Iraq, even though polls show otherwise.

This might explain why Muqtada al-Sadr reportedly took a powder to Iran. The Democrats' clever scheme rattles al Qaeda, militant Baathists, Sunni death squads and Shia militias, who now tremble, thinking, "What are these guys gonna pull next?"

Sun Tzu, in "The Art of War," says, "It is the same in all battles. You use a direct approach to engage the enemy. You use surprise to win." Brilliant, Democrats! Absolutely brilliant!

The Obvious Answer
What is next? The answer is obvious.

Acting on their version of preemption, the Democrats, using troops in Okinawa, will invade the US and preemptively establish Sharia law.

This preemptive strike will take away all of al Qaida's justifications for war, and ensure peace for the next century!

Brilliant!

Darn!
Here the Democrats had this beautifully crafted strategy for victory in the GWOT, and now Mr. Elder has blown their cover.

Of course, it was victory for the other side that they had in mind.

I think we should pass a law prohibiting the Democrats from quoting either Thomas Jefferson or John Adams. Instead, they should be rquired to refer to the two historical figures who most accurately represent their worldview.

Henri Petain', and Vidkun Quisling.

cheers

eon

The only "war" the Democrats
are waging is the war on President Bush and the USA! Hitlery can't wait to become dictator (oops! I mean El Presidente of the world, er, the leader of the UN and the world). God may not be able to help if the sheeple of the US are stupid enough to elect her to anything more powerful than dog-catcher and at that, I pity the dogs!

Telling, telling
this comment of the Supreme Anointed One's is quite telling:

'[Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld] did not go into Iraq with enough troops to establish law and order. -- Sen. Clinton, Aug. 3, 2006 '

very true; he went in with enough to kick a$$ and take names - not to 'establish law and order' which is NOT, nor ever has been, a primary mission of ANY army - much less ours.

to finish
my last post:

An army can create the CONDITIONS in which law and order can thrive, but they can not create law and order directly.

The Sage Exposes Contradition
As always, Larry Elder surgically exposes twisted logic and snake oil salesman style pronouncements. Great job, Sage.

Andrews [!grin!], Are you a mole in the
Andrews, good comment!

My wife is back from Iraq. She has been catching up at Townhall, (...has been since she's returned). At breakfast she started laughing so hard that she fell out of her chair!

NB: the dog was glad... he scooped up her fallen scambled eggs in a flash.

Her decision point comes in a month. She's been in for somewhat over 15 years. After the stunt the congress-critters in House pulled, she probably won't remain in the Medical Corps. We've talked about it, and she's not the only one. Not because of the Pres., though many of us armchair general differ in the implementation of the war -- but not the necessity of Iraq, or even if we were to go into Iran.

She remembers what awaited her Pop after Viet Nam, she is deeply disheartened.

It would be worse, if not for OpEds like this one, or the ohers here.

Thank you all -- those of you who **really** support the Troops! It has certainly helped my Troop!

God's Speed to all fighting under Our Country's Colors!

Fun Article, But a Bit Depressing

Any persuasive aspect to this article assumes (i) that the Democrats have any personal shame and (ii) that the American electorate is at all rational.

I fear that neither assumption is true.

But then ...

I see a post such as that of ma ding, and feel optimistic again. Thanks, and congratulations to our new citizen!

Democrats' Plan for Victory in Iraq
Both the Clintons are two are the biggest crooks in the whole world. It would be a terrible tragedy if those two would ever get back into the White House again. The Democrats are the "evil empire" INSIDE the United States. They are right now in the process of destroying America from the inside. They are much more evil than all of communism put together ever. It is very possible that the Anti-Christ will come out of this Democrat system.

Hillary Clinton can say all the nice
'conservative' things she wants to but she and Bill are pathological liars with a capital L. They don't know the meaning of the word 'Truth'. She will "promise" the American people anything they want to hear but she is a 'wolf in sheep's clothing'. If she ever gets into the Oval Office she will Reverse every 'good' promise she ever made. There is no way on earth that that woman can be trusted. She is a very evil person. Read the book about how she treated the White House staff during Clinton's presidency. She was down right vicious with them. She would make a very wicked President and of course she would have a very wicked "first ladyman". She would be nothing but a dictator.

I am coninced
Iraq is a going very well. I don't have any clue about all the supposed mistakes we made were. I have been waiting for a year now for someone to tell me what mistakes we made. It is a total load of garbage by backseat generals.

Congress is overstepping (once again) its authority to even be involved. When in the world is the Supreme court going to remind congress it regularly practices unconstitutional works?

Victory?
Outside of the military victory in Iraq which was won in the first few weeks of the war, there is no such thing as Victory in Iraq. There is nothing for us to win there and never was. We have wasted billions on reconstruction and yet the untilities, water and flow of oil are still below prewar conditions. The government is weak and unable to govern and the civil war continues unabated.

ProfGene
I have some agreement with you regarding "victory". Rebuilding Iraqi utilities is not part of a "victory". It is lending a helping hand to those in need.

Since we are not actually at war with Iraq, rather at war with militant Islam, victory will not come even from a peacful Iraq. That doesn't mean eliminating it's dictator and trying to facilitate the creation of a democratic government in the mMiddle East is wasted time and money. I say far from it.

Iraqi freedom is one piece of the solution. Even war with militant Islam is only one piece.

Islam has 2 arms that must be dealt with. One being the militant, the other being the subversive. The subversive arm is here among us and exists primarily outside the Middle East. It's mission is "evangelical". It achieves victory through conversion. Preventing its victory would be our victory. Unfortunately we don't have the stomach for it.

So we are left with partial victories against the militants. If we continue to ignore the subversives, victory will never be complete.

ProfGene - Sophist goof.
why don't you shh up now and let the adults talk, eh kid?

Iraq and responsibility
Does anyone find it interesting that, while democraps think the only way for Iraq to succeed is for us withdraw our support and force Iraqis to take responsibility for their future, for some reason feel just the opposite about Americans?

You'll never hear a dem tell Americans that we're going to cut back on the handouts because that's the only way to encourage folks to take responsibility for their future. Why is that I wonder?

xblade
I'll second that.

Victory not possible?
"There is nothing for us to win there and never was. We have wasted billions on reconstruction and yet the untilities, water and flow of oil are still below prewar conditions. "

Well, I guess victory isn't possible over there when folks like you continue to spread dishonest propaganda. Oil flow is back to and above prewar conditions, but for some reason folks like yourself continue to rely on outdated data. I'm guessing in 10 years you'll still be using the same data, lol.

But let's follow your logic for a moment. Billions have been wasted on reconstruction in New Orleans and Louisiana, yet the utilities, water, public resources, etc are still below pre-Katrina levels. Therefore, it is obvious we can't win there, and probably should withdraw all government resources, physical and monetary.

GEORGE BUSH HAS NO RATIONAL PLAN

WE GET THE GOVERNMENT WE DESERVE… and, boy, we’ve really been getting it for the last 6 years! Truth, values, competence and results no longer matter in America.

THE PROBLEM: our President is not a rational thinker – his mind accepts information from only two sources: faith and experience. A notable example from Iraq, Bush learned the "the enemy will follow us here" from Vietnam and the Domino Theory: “If we don’t defeat the communists in Vietnam, then we’ll have to fight them here in America.” Now just insert “terrorists” and “Iraq” into the one lesson Bush learned from Vietnam. Of course, the real terrorists who will come to America are in Afghanistan and now the border regions of Pakistan.

Because George Bush is not rational (strictly empirical and subjective), objective facts and evidence such as the recent National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) that found this Iraq war has created more jihadists and terrorists and made America less safe are meaningless to this anachronistic man of several millennia ago. The reality of Iraq is what he thinks it is from the beautiful White House, and so our country and our precious soldiers are in for much more of this growing catastrophe, incompetence at the top from day one and continuing into the foreseeable future, and SPIN, SPIN, SPIN (from “shock and awe” to “surge,” everyone stand up and shout for failed policies).

The next application of Bush's mind to our tribulations... GOOD NEWS! God has spoken directly to George Bush (again) and told him to go to war with Iran after the November 2006 elections. This new war should go as well as the Iraq war (our President’s last guidance from “a higher authority,” “another Father” than Bush41) and further help over one billion Muslims in their decision to fight America in a mutual holy war. When the President finally increases the level of hatred against the United States to where it engulfs Pakistan, then we face nuclear terror, and Biblical Armageddon becomes real and a self-fulfilling prophecy. Oh, the joy, the Rapture!

Without rational thinking, bumping into reality is always a shock! FUTURE SHOCK… Right now roiled Pakistan is just one assassin’s bullet away from going under, and still jihad recruitment is only in its infancy. The Crusades of long ago are living history in the Middle East, so Muslims are already primed for another war with Christian invaders; and our “bring it on” cowboy President is only rekindling and fueling this centuries-old fire.

Of course, talking with adversaries (instead of war) requires rational thought… AMERICAN DIPLOMACY, now there’s an oxymoron! The leader of Iran comes off as a whacko, however, the Iranians and the entire rest of the world view George Bush in the same way, so there is a common starting point. Real diplomacy involves talking with your adversary one-on-one without preconditions, and there’s a lot to discuss with Iran: the CIA in the 1950s, the Shah, the 1979 hostage crisis, sponsorship of terror, Israel and justice in the Middle East, and nuclear issues. But if past is prelude, Bush’s diplomacy with Iran will be perfunctory and rigged - this time, our mentally unbalanced, messianic President needs to provoke a war, AND HE WILL FIND A WAY!

I know the plan!
Democrats want to fight terrorists like criminals.
The master plan is;
Midnight Basketball!

GEORGE BUSH HAS NO RATIONAL PLAN

Please, deliniate for me, the "Rational Plan"...... that succeeded, during the Revolutionary War, WWl, WWll, Korean War, Vietnam, ..... wait, I'll make it easy on you: ANY war.

Please....any war.

Just one, even a teeny weeny war.

We can't even erect a 3 story building without mistakes being made. Ever hear of a "punch list"? And when my buddies are building one they don't have people shooting at them, or IEDs, or ........ you name it.

Come one. Just one stinking war that went rationally as planned from the inset.

As for diplomacy, try it if your wife, sister, or daughter ever gets raped, or you get mugged in a parking lot, or your Mom gets conned out of her savings. Diplomacy. Yep, that's the exact route --------- of cowards!

What is the left-wing exit strategy from the quagmire of the War on Poverty?

Plans
What is the left-wing exit strategy from the quagmire of the War on Poverty?

Excellent question
poorgrandchildren.com.

What grinds me is reading, hearing, and seeing talk and discussions about "the poor."

But no one - NO ONE ever discusses, why the "poor" continue to be poor generation after generation, after generation - in AMERICA. I'm beginning to come to the complusion that 95% of "the poor" are severely retarded, and as such, should be commited. Look to New Orleans as an example of the Democratic liberal Utopia since the Dems have been in control there for literally decades and decades.

And what is the Dems "exit" strategy for the increasing murders in NO. Where is their Rational Planned strategy?

I'm really amazed at the morons who own computers and have the capacity to type, but are incapable to think.

xblade and Sonny Lykos

Great Posts, guys. Funny and original. Great having you on board.

"poorgrandchildren" - great question. They should shut up MOST Democrats, but then not all of them. A few will find some way to blame Bush for the War on Poverty.

John Citizen - where were you when the North Korea situation cooled down through diplomacy? Doesn't that count? GWB is trying to put together a coalition in the ME as he did in the Korea situation.

Do you really believe Bush has the desire to provoke an additional conflict? Do you REALLY believe he wants to send young American troops in harm's way? You are really barking up the wrong tree with that argument. Very bad suppositions on your part.

What are your credentials for calling our President mentally unbalanced? If that is what you believe, please take your opinion to a liberal blog where I am sure you will get a lot more affirmations than you will get on this thread. Your credibility just went down the toilet on that one. As for him being messianic: hardly. Are you a cultist of some sort?

post by JohnCitizen is a repeat ...
I have seen this exact post on numerous occasions. It is the same left wing diatribe that has been picked apart most every time it has appeared. Thank you xblade and poorgrandchilderen for pointing out the hypocracy of the left. They want Iraq to take control of their own fate but not American citizens. The war in Iraq is a quagmire but not the war on poverty, war on drugs, or the war on crime. Throwing money down the toilet in New Orleans is ok, but we are failing in Iraq. It is all about who is in charge and who wants to be in charge.
