Do we really want Democrats in charge?

Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Sixty percent of Americans, according to recent polls, consider Iraq a mistake. Given the unpopularity of the war, Democrats expect to capture one, if not both, chambers of Congress this fall. Assuming this happens -- and I still don't believe so -- will Americans be better off?

Sure, anti-war candidate Ned Lamont beat Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., in the Democratic primary. But look at Lamont's "strategy" for the war in Iraq. He calls for a "phased pullout" of troops. A "phased pullout"?

Sen. Lieberman, who disagrees with President Bush on virtually every domestic issue, understands the stakes in Iraq, even if his party members fail to. "I am convinced," wrote Lieberman, "almost all of the progress in Iraq and throughout the Middle East will be lost if [U.S.] forces are withdrawn faster than the Iraqi military is capable of securing the country."

During the recent war between Israel and Hezbollah (and Lebanon and Syria and Iran), we justly criticized the Lebanese government for the lack of will or ability to police its southern border. Yet many Democrats want us to leave Iraq and abandon the Iraqi military and police that show the will, if not the ability so far, to police and protect their own country.

Lamont's "phased pullout" would send yet another signal to the enemies to simply wait us out. Osama bin Laden considers America impatient, lacking resolve and unwilling to sacrifice. Recall that our hasty pullout from Vietnam, and subsequent failure to abide by promises made to the South Vietnamese, resulted in a bloodbath in Southeast Asia that left 3 million or more dead.

For insight into the Democrats' brand of appeasement foreign policy, look no farther than former President Jimmy Carter. Just a few months into his presidency, he urged Americans to reconsider our "inordinate fear of communism." Carter kissed then-Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev on the cheek. Brezhnev invaded Afghanistan.

Carter, a staunch Bush critic, helped to usher in the "Iranian Revolution" of 1979 by leaning on the Shah of Iran to "release political prisoners." To show their gratitude, Iranians seized 90 hostages at the U.S. embassy, holding 52 of them for 444 days, before releasing them minutes after Ronald Reagan took office. At the time of the hostage crisis, Carter sent what some called a believer-to-believer letter in longhand to the Ayatollah Khomeini. The letter praised the ayatollah as a "man of God."

The other major Democrat line of attack accuses the Republicans of fiscal irresponsibility. This is their strongest and most persuasive argument. For it is true that this president, with the approval of the Republican-run legislature, ran up bills at a rate faster than any president since Lyndon Baines Johnson. Even if we exclude the cost of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, homeland security and Katrina relief, the Republican Party turned its back on their alleged "limited government" philosophy.

But the Democrats' primary criticism is to call Republicans too stingy. About the monstrous expansion of Medicare with the prescription bill for seniors, Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., said, "Because the administration and the Republican leadership refused to provide the funds needed for an adequate drug benefit, more and more seniors are facing the ridiculous 'donut hole.' That's the huge gap which leaves enrollees with major out-of-pocket costs."

About No Child Left Behind, another unwarranted expansion of the federal government in education, Democrats, along with the National Education Association, call it insufficiently funded. "The law requires Washington to pay for it," said NEA President Reg Weaver, "and the fact is that Washington is not keeping that promise. As a result, our parents' tax dollars are getting steered away from the classroom and going towards boosting the profits of testing companies, instead of going towards their children's education."

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California and other House Democrats recently released a six-pronged "New Direction for America" agenda for change: Real security and immediate phased pullout in Iraq; higher minimum wage; more affordable college; energy independence and lower gas prices; affordable health care; and something called "Retirement Security and Dignity," which calls for shoring up private pensions.

Notice anything missing? Not one word about North Korea. Not one word about Iran. And virtually every one of the six Democrat initiatives requires greater federal government intrusion, higher taxes and contempt for the private sector to compete and innovate. In short, "fiscal irresponsibility."

Americans, despite our uneasiness with the war in Iraq, nevertheless realize the consequences -- in the war against Islamofascism -- of an abrupt abandonment. And the next time you hear a Democrat attack Republicans for "reckless spending," ask the following question: "Aside from defense, where should government cut back?"

The silence will be deafening.

Dems just don't get it!
Here we are fighting a duel to the death with radical Islam and they are worried about moe affordable college. I have a son in junior high now, and college is getting closer but we aren't waiting on the fed to pay for it. We are preparing ourselves for his college years. But that's what you get with Dems...ignore the important stuff and focus on things like the 'healthcare crisis'. What a raving bunch of dolts!

New Direction for America
I don't think there is a political dispute that doesn't agree that our country needs a new direction. The republicans have had a chance to make a better country and what we have is "hold the course" attitude.

Start with changing the directions to get us on the right track means get some wind in our sails and start feeling good about what this country can achieve. Once we left Viet Nam it was distasteful and even diheartening but we got over it and became stronger for it and had a revolution of freedom that the people were taking control of the polictical and social fabric of the country.

We need that same 80' and 90's attitude. We are not a Nation Builder. Iran and North Korea are not going to be treated any different under a Reb or Dem. This president called these countries part of the evil empire and here we are five years later bogged down in trying to sort out evil people interwoven into the society of Iraq. Diplomacy, leadership and intelligence will guide us through the international waters a hell of a lot better than continuing our current direction. The world and especially our enemies sees us as a divided country. SO WHAT!!

Dems do get it!
They want our constitutional republic to collapse with the intention of implementing socialist fascism (probably communism vs Nazism).

Leo: What is there to negotiate?
The Islamists want us to convert or die, period. They would rather kill their own children than compromise on this. Negotiation only works if there is a middle ground upon which both parties can move. This isn't possible in this situation.

Pulling out of Iraq, whether or not getting into it was the right move, would be disasterous. It would show the fecklessness of the US once again. Vietnam, Beriut, Mogadishu were all cases where we retreated rather than fought. This behavior is what has so emboldened our enemies in the middle east. So much so that they were absolutely SHOCKED to see US special ops in Afghanistan.

This IS the new direction, we stand and fight back. Quitting again will show us to be without principals against people fanatically devoted to their own principals. It would embolden and encourage them to our ultimate horror. No country on the planet will stand with us again if we fail to show the will to honor our commitments in Iraq. I say we continue to stand and fight. I say we finish what we have started and reclaim our honor as a nation.

FACTS AND FICTION
The left does not have an answer for any of the issues that they are whining about, if they do... let's hear it.

The left really does have all the answers but are just waiting until the mid term and presidential election to fill us all in.

William Jefferson has returned the missing 10k

The ACLU was formed to make sure American civil liberties are protected.

There are photos available showing the actual jet flying into the Pentagon on 9/11.

Terrorism is just a scam that the right made up to create attention to themselves.

The left actually believe the above.

Saddam Hussein will ever be held accountable for the atrocities he has committed.

The right is right.

The left is wrong.

Heads Need To Roll

WHY Keep Republicans In Charge?
Thats the better question. They have had their chance to govern and have been in control of the federal govt for the last six years.

If current poll numbers are any indication of how Americans feel & think about the job they have done, it doesnt bode well for republicans because a vast majority of americans think that
President Bush and the Republican Congress are incompetent bunglers/failures who dont have a clue on how to solve the countries foreign policy and domestic problems.

Current poll numbers:

Bush: 33% approve 67% disapprove

Repub Congress: 34% approve 66% disapprove

War On Iraq: 40% approve 60% disapprove

These are dismal numbers and the primary excuse you will hear from repubs/cons is to blame the
MSM, NOT the Bush administrations policies, which is typical. Republicans have a habit of not taking responsibility for their actions and rhetoric or the results of them. It's ALWAYS someone elses fault when things go bad for them.

Do we want Democrats in charge?

Why not? they couldnt do any worse than the republicans and could probably take the country in a new more positive direction with better solutions and results to its problems. If the poll numbers are any indication, expect the dems to regain control of either the Senate or House
come November. With a bit of luck they possibly could take both, which would clearly show the momentum has shifted to the democrats with 08 Prez elections coming up.

Republicans have had their chances and have shown they are incompetents at governing.
We DONT need more of their tired excuses, moving the goal poston Iraq, and general bad results from the Repubs/cons.They are determined to divide America, not unite it. People are starting to get fed up them, now that the "we can protect you better" national security cloak is dissolving around them. these are desperate times for republicans and they KNOW it.

It's time for new beggining. Hopefully America will come to its senses & reject the republicans
negativity and give the democrats a chance for a more Positive America with Positive results on domestic and foriegn affairs.

Polls
last I saw Bush was at 42% approval and republicans were making strong gains everywhere.

Dems in charge
I suspect Mr. Elder wrote this column, like several others of a similar vein that others are writing this week because they are reading the tea leaves as being against Republicans at this point in the campaign ritual. Even though he espouses Republican principles most of the time, he has succumbed to his true identity of a party person first, a principled Repbulican second by writing this column. He offers not a single wisp of corrective measure for the messes the Republicans have made of things. Unless you count it as a corrective measure to vote them into office again and hope for the best; maybe even write them a nasty letter. Yeah, right. He didn't even offer that as a fix-it measure. Shows how inept these party people are at being able to corral the wild horses in the barn.
The people gave the Repubs a grant of power to do certain things that the party, in general espouses. For decades all we heard was that if they got voted into office in enough numbers they could turn things around. Not only have they failed to enact their agenda, they have, as you point out, gone backwards on many things. We had to know that as soon as Bush put in a couple Supreme Court nominees to our liking there would be a feeding frenzy on him and the party due to these failures of Republican purposes/promises. "Remeber the "Contract With America"!"
If the people remove the grant of power from the Republicans by voting them out in November the lessons for the entire political class is that you cannot govern without popular consent and expect to stay in office. You cannot say one thing on the campaign trail and do another once in office and expect no repercussions.
As far as answering the scared Willy's and Wilma's that the Dems would ruin the country; as for myself I would consider it a test of the remaining Republicans in national office, including and especially the president to block their agenda. Even though the president just learned how to use it, he may yet remember that he has the veto pen. There is no real threat to having the Dems get back into the majority position in one house of the other, provided you believe, which I have serious doubts about, that the president is a real Republican and not a RINO.
For those who would blame the RINO's in the party for the excessess and about faces from what we expected of them, consider that nothing makes it to the presidents desk without a majority of the Republicans voting to put it there. The RINO's only have the power to block, not to enact. And we've seen some enactments of law and budgets that are, without a doubt, outrageous.
It is high time for the real sovereigns, us, to slap down the insolence of the Republican party power. It is only two years. If the party learns their lessons they will be in a better mind to mind what we elect them to do which is, in a nutshell, the national party platform.

Democrats in charge
What have the Repubs done for me lately:
1. War. Great fodder for new movies. I love them docudramas. Why should the WWII generation get all the good movies?
2. Out of control Budgets. I love freeways in the summertime. 25 mph to watch them put new road down on top of new road. At least some folks have a way to keep good paying jobs, so I'm not knocking that.
3. Pork that only a pig farmer and a BBQ cook-off would love. It stinks and there is a lot of smoky mirror stuff.
4. No Child left Behind. Remember when we were going to eliminate the Dept. of Ed. ?
5. Gas has gone from $1 to $3. Wasn't Dept. of Energy another of the "old' targets to eliminate. My reduced use of fossil fuels is going to eliminate the debate over Global Warming. $5/gal, anybody? Be civic minded, K?
6. Expanded medicare... I guess Hillary wan't all wrong about Socialized meds.
7. Campaign finance reform. Unconstitutional said the President when he was campaigning. The OATH, sir, the OATH.
8. Huge threats to personal liberty and privacy in the Patriot ACT. What a misnomer. Remeber the cliche' about the camels' nose in the tent, K??
9. Soviet/Nazi style control of transportation. "May I see your papers, please? Are your papers in order?"
10. Belligerent foreign policy. Is it any wonder it is ineffectual?
11. Un-American like secrecy in the highest levels of government. I hear the Freedom of Information Act is a joke nowadays.
12. Uncontrolled immigration. If you think about the dichotomy of it. Get on a plane and they want to feel you up and take your lipstick they're so paranoid. But come across the border, at night, armed, on the sneak, against the laws and.. hey, they just want a job. Are you sure?? As sure as you are that I might be a terrorist when I get on a plane. Me, a lilly white, 50ish guy from Chicago suburbia?? Uh, huh. I see. BTW, I don't have lipstick and no, you can't have my KY jelly.
13. Cronyism instead of professionalism for Supreme Court; Meirs, remember?
14. Corruption. Abrahmof.
15. Bush offered to sign a renewal of the Assult Weapons ban in his first term. Again, the OATH, sir, the OATH. We are talking about item #2 in the Bill of Rights. Have someone read it to you, someday.
16. Unfettered free trade. Ain't it great I can buy at Wal-Mart for less, everyday? I thank God for Wal-Mart cause I couldn't afford those old timey mom and pop style prices on my new, much lower paying job without medical benefits or a pension plan. Yeah, free trade!!
17. Lower taxes. Great job Repubs. I pay lower taxes because I make less. But hey, who's complaining. Oh, and I'm glad to be doing my part at keeping the unemployment numbers down. My wife even had to go out and get a job.
18. Low inflation. But how could inflation get going when the price of gas is sucking every spare dime I got out of me. Where is the push for price increases going to come from? See below.
19. Growing economy. The numbers have gone up because the prices have gone up because the price of oil is being passed onto.... "ME" (ah shoot, it always winds up on me). So even though revenues are increasing, it winds up paying for the increases in all the products that use crude oil in the making of them.

In conclusion there are a lot of reasons to vote Republican again.

Dems in charge
baseballdr writes:
.....Impeach Bush!...(Nixon)...
Not with the simply majority they just might and only might get. Just a lot of noise, most likely.

.....pull out of the Middle East and cut off all aid and support for Iraq...(Saigon)...
Isn't that Bush's eventual agenda? Or are we staying forever and paying forever? Let's not forget that the Commander in Cheif has the last say so.

.....Increase taxes and initiate massive social programs...(LBJ)...
Like No Child Left Behind, record breaking Dept. of Transportation budgets, Medicare payments for prescription meds?? Who was in the majority when we got these?

.....Appoint ACLU judges to the Supreme Court...(Clinton/Baby Ruth Ginsberg)...
Re-read the appointment power in the Constitution, please.

.....Be in denial of the inevitable follow-up to the Twin Towers attack on 9/11...
Could be right here. Generally, I doubt the majority of the Dems would DARE to be so lax.

.....Epilogue: The Terminal blow to an already very sick Republic.....COLOSSUS
Run by Republicans since 1994; 12 years of going down the rathole.
Oh, yes they're just the people to get us out of it, the one they dug us, that is.

What propaganda!
RIGHT out of the Democratic playbook!

I love the use of the word Positive, all capitalized to draw the reader's attention to it. The use of polls and numbers seemingly back up LeftAngle's arguments. The accusation of the Republicans not taking any responsibility when their last poster boy commits a felony of perjury and is on the record with "depends on what the definition of IS is".

Let me first comment on LeftAngle's use of polls and numbers: numbers and polls do NOT reflect everything. For example, I would be willing to bet most of us HERE, IE Conservatives, would be in those "disapprove" categories above. I know I would. I DO disapprove of Bush's spending and his performance overall... but I think Dems would have done much worse. I DO disapprove of the way the Iraq war is being run... but at least the Republicans are doing SOMETHING, and admit there IS a war that needs to be fought. I DO disapprove of the way Congress has spent, spent, spent, but the Dems are already famous for that, so what can a voter do? So if someone shoved a poll in front of my face like that, I would SEEM to be against our current administration... but that does not mean I would be voting Democrat.

Polls like Lefty uses do not have an "other" blank. I bet if a choice were added to Lefty's polls like "Disapprove of Congress but still would not vote for the Democrats" were put on there, those dramatic numbers Lefty quotes would change drastically.

LeftAngle asks us: WHY keep Republicans in charge? The reasons *I* personally will never vote for one:

1) The Democrats past, and present, track record of voting.

2) The Pubs at least admit there IS a war to be fought... let the Dems back in charge and we will have more years of letting attacks on America go unanswered.

3) The culture of death the Dems promote. Abortion has killed far more people than Hitler, Stalin, PolPot, and many others, put together. They claim to be "for the little guy who can't stand up for himself" but if the "little guy" can't vote, he doesn't count, so let's kill him and label it a "right"...

4) The fact that it took a 9.11 to get most Dems to vote with a Republican. During the Clinton years, the Republican Congress worked with him all the time and got things done, they were willing to compromise... the Dems do not do this unless it would reveal their true nature if they did not (9.11).

5) Pelosi, Kennedy, Byrd, Kerry, Jackson, Sharpton... some of the most intolerant dividers in America reside in that party. No way I want ANY of those people in charge of decisions that affect me.

6) Lefty accuses the Right of being divisive... I see more of that from the Left than the Right. The whole Leiberman thing is a perfect example of that; you do not toe our line, we excommunicate you. Yet the Republicans tolerate RINOS like McCain.

Dems in charge...Mike in charge?
One only has to read Mike's first sentences to see the Democrats'/lefties view of the world: "What have the Republicans done for me?" Mike exhibits entitlement in its purest form. Give me, give me, give me...says Mike.

The question Larry was posing was simple: "What will the Democrats do to us?" High taxes, running from the challenge of terrorism, state control of more and more of ours lives...wow!! this is to look forward to!! Give us all a break, Mike and kool-aid drinkers of America.

Remember the Fallout Shelters?
I will build one in my home.

What are you going to do?

Liberal Republicans
The majority of Republicans in Congress have lost their way. They have begun to follow the same template for office as the Demoncrats before. They are preying on people's ignorance of economics and the Constitution. They are also enjoying being in power a little too much. They have reacted like a dog that hasn't been fed for a couple of days, then when he is fed, eats till he gets sick. Letting the Demoncrats take over is not the answer, however. Things really could get worse.
The war in Iraq is justified and must continue until the Iraqis can take control themselves. All of the fuss about keeping troops there forever clearly ignores history and Germany, Japan, Korea, etc.
The Demoncrats plan is full of things worse than the Republicans have let through so far. Most of the Demoncrats "New Direction for America" plan is a call for more spending in areas that the government has no business being in. Minimum wage, Health care, Secondary Education, Gas prices, Retirement. None of this should have anything to do with the government, and vice-versa.
But we don't educate ourselves, anymore. We let the inmates teach us.

craigctx:Desperate Times for Republicans
"The Republicans are beginning to sound more and more desperate. With the midterm elections barely three months away, the war in Iraq going badly, the Republicans losing on the generic question of whether you’d rather vote for a Democrat or Republican for Congress, and President Bush’s popularity still in the toilet, it’s easy to understand why."

Whats more revealing is this constant demand from the Repubs/Cons:

"WHERE AND WHAT IS THE DEMOCRATS PLAN?"

It has become a shrill and anguished cry for the
repubs/cons...

The Dems pretty much say and reveal nothing.
Why shuould they when The Bush presidency and
Republican Congress are Self-Destructing right before your eyes.

What republicans want before midterms 06 is for
Democrats to put out a detailed plan so that they could go thru it in an effort to eviscerate it and turn it into negative campaign "sound bites and slogans" such as: "CUT AND RUN DEMOCRATS" except this time around dems arent playing that game, which is smart politics.

craigctx:

Say what you want about the polls, but the numbers I have posted are not the result of just one poll, they are taken from most major well respected pollsters and YOU know it..funny thing is Bush/Rove and the Repub Congressmen up for re-election KNOW IT TOO...LOL

They are running as far away from Bush as possible as if he has the plague...

Did you listen to John McCains critiques of Bush on Iraq the other day? Oh my god...even the repubs are beating up on Bush...lol

Leo
Are you kidding me??

"Start with changing the directions to get us on the right track means get some wind in our sails and start feeling good about what this country can achieve. Once we left Viet Nam it was distasteful and even diheartening but we got over it and became stronger for it and had a revolution of freedom that the people were taking control of the polictical and social fabric of the country."

The 2-3 million people who were butchered as a result of the democrat driven pull-out of Southeast Asia might have a different take...a little less rosy perhaps.

Incredible...

back at Lefty
"Say what you want about the polls, but the numbers I have posted are not the result of just one poll, they are taken from most major well respected pollsters and YOU know it" -- no, I DON'T know it, *I* do not pay attention to polls. Rarely do I see a poll that is not biased in one manner or another, or, as I mentioned, the poll in question does not offer enough choices... it is very easy to manipulate polls or their results to fit the point the user wishes. Life is not as black and white as polls make it out to be.

If the best the Democrats could come up with in 2004 was an Anti-war candidate running on a war hero platform after 1 month of service...

When the Democrats convince people they WILL admit there is a war on terrorism, that needs to be fought, they might have a chance.

When the Democrats that claim to be "for the little guy who cannot stand up for himself" actually DO stand up for the little guys and completely reverse their position on abortion, they might have a chance.

When the Democrats go back to doing what is best for the country as a whole as opposed to trying to buy loyalty with handouts, they might have a chance. (the Republicans need to learn this one too).

When the Democrats ditch vitriolic, hateful, divisive rhetoric and the politicians that continue to spout it and vote it, they might have a chance.

When the Democrats stop kowtowing to their liberal hijackers and go BACK to where they were actually in tune with what a majority of the people want, they may have a chance.

As far as McCain beating up on Bush, what do you expect? He is trying to ready for a White House run himself. If that RINO and Hitlery are the two choices in 2008, I am betting we see a BIG surge in votes for Independants in 2008. I know I will be should those be the two choices.

Liberal Patriotism
Many in Conservative ranks question the patriotism of Liberals, which brings the outraged reply to not question their patriotism. They're patriotic alright, but not to our America; they're patriotic to the socialistic, 2nd rate nation they wish us to become. They have no intelligent concept of human nature, & believe they can placate & befriend everyone. The Liberal philosophy/ideology is in direct conflict with the American spirit, but because Libs consider themselves wiser & more intelligent, they are shoving it down our throats. Back during the Cold War, I thought the Commies were experts at propaganda & spin, but they couldn't hold a candle to the Libs & their media of today. Townhall & the books they offer give us all the ammunition we need to counteract the "enemy". Let's get with it!!

craigctx:Bush Katows to the RadicalRight
I'll give it to you do have large cajones to say the stuff you say about democrats..lol
When the republican's far rightwing conservative "base" tells Bush to jump he alwasy ask: "Am I up high enought?"

The way I see it is that with the electorate pretty much split down the middle, all the dems
have to do is get a majority of the independents to come over to their side in November 06 and I am pretty confident that is going to happpen.

Oh and btw:

Getting Bush and the Republicans out of control of the Federal U.S. Government IS EXACTLY WHAT IS BEST FOR THE COUNTRY!!

One more for Lefty
"I'll give it to you do have large cajones to say the stuff you say about democrats" -- I also note you cannot or will not refute what I say about the Democrats. Truth hurts. What scares me is that SO many people were STILL fooled into voting Kerry in 2004. I shudder for 2008. The Democrats strategy seems to be "repeat the same old lies often enough and people will believe it" and it seems to have worked.

"Getting Bush and the Republicans out of control of the Federal U.S. Government IS EXACTLY WHAT IS BEST FOR THE COUNTRY!!" -- if there were a better option, I would agree... Bush and Co. could have done a MUCH better job, as could ALL (Democrat and Republican) of Congress... the problem is, the alternative is much, much worse. Let us say a Democrat wins POTUS in 2008, and that Democrats win both houses.

On second thought, let's not. I just soiled my underoos. The longer abortion "rights" go unchallenged, the harder it will be for justice and what is RIGHT to prevail and outlaw that barbarism... more liberal judges being appointed to the bench... more emphasis on "personal freedoms" will make the jobs of those who mean harm to America that much easier... the war on terror will not be fought, as the Dems do not want to admit it even exists... the attack on Christianity will get more aggressive... more "social programs" mean more tax dollars down the drain... the list is endless. I need to go change...

craig ctx: It's a matter of opinion...
Obviously, you have as low a opinion of demcrats as I have of republicans, no doubt.

I just think the country was much better off during the Clinton years than the best of Reagan, Bush#1 & 2. Really, Its no contest. Even
republians did well ($$$) under Clinton.lol

8 years of PEACE AND PROSPERITY!!!

btw:

"Let us say a Democrat wins POTUS in 2008, and that Democrats win both houses. On second thought, let's not. I just soiled my underoos."

Thats pretty funny..lmao

some repubs DO have a sense of humor..

What Left Angle Really Means
by this humorous statement:

"WHERE AND WHAT IS THE DEMOCRATS PLAN?"
"It has become a shrill and anguished cry for the
repubs/cons...
The Dems pretty much say and reveal nothing.
Why shuould they when The Bush presidency and
Republican Congress are Self-Destructing right before your eyes"

This is just what we've been saying. Left Angle thinks Americans should vote for the Democrats because they are not Republicans. Why do you think they should provide the voters with 'reasons' to elect them?

As we all know, it does not take a rocket scientist (or a liberal) to know that the left is populated by inherently superior individuals. Who are we, the unwashed masses to question where such lofty-minded altuistic benefactors would lead us? We need to leave our destiny to the elites and just be good little boys and girls. If we continue this unseeming questioning, who knows where it could lead! After these elite individuals have been returned to their proper roles in the leadership of this country, I for one, propose immediate steps be taken to prevent future injustices. The Democrats must expand their thought crimes program! Hate crime legislation must be enacted that is capable of casting a wider net! To allow this questioning attitude on the part of the common people is to invite further disaster. We must not tolerate the continued use of 'freedom' to undercut the greater good. The masses are only capable of limited understanding of the complicated issues at hand, and it is our duty to protect them from themselves!

Problem with the Clinton years...
Peace and Prosperity? We had at least 8 unanswered attacks by terrorists on American interests that they got away with. Over 200 dead in one of those attacks alone... though any one of those attacks was good enough to be considered just cause for a war, but Clinton didn't have to react, because none of them resulted in lots of dead bodies on American Soil. We had Bosnia, we had Waco... what the heck peace are YOU remembering? Been smoking some of the same dope Clinton didn't inhale?

A president does not really have near as much to do with things as people give him credit for. Presidents do not get a whole bunch done without Congress's blessing. Clinton had a Republican controlled Congress, that worked WITH him, and got things done that needed doing. Bush has gotten NO cooperation from the petulant Democrats, who cannot stand that they have no majority anywhere anymore. I see the Democrats as wanting power for power's sake... and that is not a good thing.

Since you will not refute any of my points about Democrats, how about humoring me with why you think they SHOULD supplant our current batch of politicos? One rule: because they aren't Bush is NOT a valid answer.

Mike
I think some of you guys might be reading Mike wrong. I don't agree with everything he says. For instance, I think that it's important to succeed in Iraq. But he doesn't advocate giving the Dems more than one house of Congress, at most.

I appreciate your point, Mike. I personally think both parties have moved way to the left. Democrats have become marxists, and at BEST the Rebublicans of today are about where the Democrats were when Kennedy was president.

I agree that we need to yank the party back by the shirt collar. I just wish we could find a better way to do it. There is NO way I can vote for a Democrat.

More Simpsons...
Bill Clinton: "No, thank you, Lisa. For teaching kids everywhere a valuable lesson: If things don't go your way, just keep complaining until your dreams come true."
Marge: "That's a pretty lousy lesson."
Bill Clinton: "Hey, I'm a pretty lousy president."

Demos
A few weeks past, I had a stroke which left me totally unable to read with my LEFT EYE; also I can not hear at all with my LEFT EAR. As a result, I now call my LEFT eye and EAR a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT.

If I have a REAL large letters I can read with my RIGHT EYE; also if you speak REAL loud in my RIGHT EAR I can hear what you say, so I call my RIGHT EYE and EAR a REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE.

Notice the LEFT EYE and EAR is on the LEFT side of my head so they are BOTH LEFT WINGERS which can neither see the writting on the wall nor can it hear what the people is saying. It does not matter what will result from the actions they take or more than likely, they don't care.

Thank God for the RIGHT EYE and EAR. Tho I have to have LARGE letters and LOUD voices, at least I can read the writting on the wall and hear what the people are saying.

Peace and prosperity indeed!
Not to mention that the actual planning and training for 9/11 also ocurred during these 8 years of "peace and prosperity". Peace and prosperity indeed! I guess ignoring the cancer invading one's body also means they aren't sick, too, doesn't it.

God help us all if the libs ever get in control again.

"We had at least 8 unanswered attacks by terrorists on American interests that they got away with. Over 200 dead in one of those attacks alone... though any one of those attacks was good enough to be considered just cause for a war, but Clinton didn't have to react, because none of them resulted in lots of dead bodies on American Soil. We had Bosnia, we had Waco... what the heck peace are YOU remembering?"

Neither party is that great
Left Angle writes:
WHY Keep Republicans In Charge?
Thats the better question. They have had their chance to govern and have been in control of the federal govt for the last six years.
=================================
I agree. Why. Well some haven't sold out and joined the gang of 14.

However, neither party is going to make things better. Republicans aren't in control of more than "setting the agenda" since they can't pass anything the democrats and RINO's want to allow the filibuster be used against. ANWR has passed 4 times and each time Democrats block it. So much for "power" of the majority.

Bush is not a conservative. He ran on reaching accross the ailse and "no child left behind" was a bone to Teddy Kennedy who promptly turned on Bush once it was passed. By the way, all the "spending" by Republicans is matched by Democrat plans but they say they will "cut defense spending" to pay for them and "tax the top 2%."

However, Kerry at 12% income tax and Edwards using the shelters are examples of how all wealthy people protect their wealth and the "tax bill" gets passed on to us in the prices we pay, plus the compliance costs of collecting taxes from us through business. For mid size business that is often 400% to 700% more than the actual tax they pay and we pay it all in the prices of what we buy. That is why we "buy Chinese." We can't afford the taxes in American products.

The voters have asked for Socialism and demand we keep it. No party is going to change anything until the voters demand it. The "swing" to democrats expected this fall? All that will do is entrench socialism even more and we will become more and more like France each day.

Let's see, what does that look like? 10% unemployment, millionaires and businesses leaving, immigration problems, trouble funding social programs, declining defense, riots by students demanding more government intervention and yet when it does, they just make it worse. France recently filed complaints with the EU and demanded they make Ireland raise taxes because their "low taxes are taking business away from France." Well we have low tax nations all over the world taking business from us.

The June jobs growth report was 175,000 new jobs but they didn't talk much about how that growth was in spite of another 48,000 jobs in manufacturing disappearing or another 10,000 in high tech jobs disappearing. Where were the jobs? Dishwasher, bus boys, waitresses for the booming restaurant businesses. Construction (is that fading now?) transportation hauling all those Chinese goods tax cuts allowed us to buy from the ports.

However, fear not about those transportation jobs. With the new superhighway from Mexican ports to the Mexican port of entry in Kansas City and the 4 football fields wide highway from Mexico to Kansas City and on to Canada, Mexican truck drives will relieve our overworked drivers that make good wages.

Now, if you think putting Democrats in charge is going to change that or the 100-200 million immigrants won't be coming you need to look and see who gives "amnesty" overwhelming support besides Bush and the "RINO's" like McCain.

I have lots of complaints about Bush and Republicans but putting democrats in will only make it worse. And, why are Republicans doing so much that displeases conservatives? Moderates, in one word.

37% Republicans, 37% Democrats means neither party can win without "independents" or "moderates" and that is greatly influencing policy. In fact, if the democrats don't win this fall, it will be because they are trying to remain true to their "base." Republicans are making their "base" mad by catering many of their policies to moderates.

Look at Conn. where Lieberman just lost. Democrats vote in 2004 was 31% of the total, Republicans 30%. The "moderate" or "independent" votes were 38% and that vote is what Lieberman my win with even if all the Democrts vote for Lamont because only 13% of Republicans have to vote with Independents for Leiberman to win and most Republicans would love to elect Leiberman even over a Republican just to "spite" the Democrats. That ought to be a very interesting race.

I notice the "approval rating" for Congress and Bush but didn't see the approval rating for Democrats which is also in the toilet.
quote:
WOULD THE COUNTRY BE BETTER OFF IF THE CONGRESS WAS CONTROLLED BY REPUBLICANS OR DEMOCRATS?

Republicans
19%
Democrats
24%
No difference
49%
======================
Wow. Those Democrats sure know how to please the voters.

Seriously, the voters are getting what they want but they don't like what they get. The reason is that socialism sounds like utopia but it has never worked and every nation that tried it has gone into decline which makes the people very unhappy. The socialist nations doing well have abandoned socialism and have switched to capitalism, tax cuts on the wealthy and business and investment. They have enacted simple tax codes that don't have thousands of loopholes that cost billions to get even larger tax cuts. We could literally double the actual tax paid and the companies save money if the tax code was simple.

40 years of democratically controlled Congress, made a lot of, but not all, of the complexity. The complexity is a result of both parties adding lines for their own special interests. Both Democrat and Republican wealthy use the tax dodges. Kerry admited he used tax free securities to keep his tax at about 12%. I applaud him for that. It was created so people would buy government bonds and support our debt needs. But, the dishonesty comes when they say " the top 2% are getting breaks from Republicans." Those breaks have been there for decades and the "top 2%" in both parties have always used them anytime personal income tax is too high from either income or investments.

Its all about politics...
sloppy:

If you think that democrats DONT have a plan for governance should they regain control of the the Senate, House or the White House, then you are a naive fool. If either of the above should happen,
they will hit the ground running with the ball.
what you dont understand is with Republicans self destructing currently it is wise political strategy to let them twist in the wind and give them nothing such as a opposition "plan" to rip apart before midterms.

craig ctx:

Practically everything you said about democrats in your opinion, not facts. So there is no need
for me to refute what you say. Youre entitled to your opinion. I respect it, just disagree with it.

The reason I think Bush and the repub congress should be replaced is because they were given a chance to govern and the basically blew it..
they have done a terrible job, domestically and in foreign affairs and their horrible poll numbers reflect it. I think that the democrats will do a much better job if given the chance. its that simple.

PRESIDENT
This post exemplifies why a lot of people are discontent with republicans, and conservatives in general. In this case, signing as a "reverand" gives you no more credibility than if you were an atheist. Maybe you want us to believe that God is speaking through you. I don't know, maybe after telling president bush that there were WMD's and a link to Al-queda in Iraq, God can take the blame that these reasonings have been disproven. I see you are the organizer of a Military Honors organization.
I have an idea. Why don't we honor our brave military personnel by not condoning a war based on undisputed falsehoods that puts their lives on the lines.

Can you guess who said this?

Yes Clintion Fan. I am a Minister AND I don't chase EVERY FEMALE to get in a SEX ACT like Billy boy did. I would be ashame to call myself a ????Clintion Fan?????

But
I must admit that you are right about 1 thing, Left Angle - I have no doubt that Democrats have A plan should they win the House or Senate.

But not a plan for any of the issues facing the country. A plan for furthur attack on their political opponents - that I don't doubt. It is what they do.

I did not know
that a 'lot of people' are discontent with Republicans based on how they sign their name.

I guess you learn something new every day. I suppose anonymity confers more respect in some circles...

Our Troops
Why don't we honor our brave military personnel BY allowing them to finish the job they voluntered to do???

DO YOU WANT THEM TO BE ASHAME OF WHAT THEY ARE DOING as the ones who fought in VAM?? It sure appears so. shame on you!!!

Do we Really want Republicans in Charge?
Now that we've seen what can happen with Republicans running things, I almost pine for the "good ol' days" under Clinton.

At least with a Democrat president, Republicans in congress has somebody to be "principled" about. I.e., there was somebody even more socialist and statist than they usually are, so they had someone to vote against.

Ah, good old Gridlock!

Without Republicans under Clinton, we would have gotten "Hillary-Care". We would never have gotten a paper-thin Welfare reform.

Now that there's no Democrat to fight against, the Republicans have gone ape-snot. "Bush-Drugs", "No Child Left w/o Taxpayer Money", enough Pork to sink Rhode Island into the Atlantic by weight -- etc.

I say we throw all the bums out and vote Third Party.

Dems in charge

What Would Mike Do?
......Mike...are you ticked off because Bush is acting too much like a Democrat on social issues?&&&&& Yep. He left me and I'm part of his base. not a Dem. Not by a long shot am I a Dem. I am a way ticked off neo-classical liberal in the Hayek, Mises mold and a social conseravtive to boot.
...guess what...many Republicans are ticked off at Bush for the same reason...Yeeesss, I know!

.....and your answer is?...elect real Democrats to screw the job up right?...&&&&& I ain't electin' no such critter. I may sit on my hands in Nov. But aint no Demo gonna get my vote, no siree!

.....Mike...Aren't you embarrassed to display such brain-dead ignorance on an open forum?.....COLOSSUS &&& Actually, no sir. If we had more than these fleeting moments to converse I already know we are on the same side. Apparantly we have different approaches to the current situation we're discussing, but otherwise I think it is obvious, to me at least our basic political leanings are very similar.
I'm hoping for a stalemate in Novemeber; A split government that cannot do too much. Because they'd be stymied by each other they should, if history is any guide put forth a greater effort than they have to convince me, both parties really, but the Dems have no change with me, but to convince me to get off my hands in '08 and vote Republican and I always have. I cannot countenance another 2 years of the government we have. The MOST likely scenario in November is a stalemated government. Perfect!
And I agree with sloopy, too.
With all due respect to all.
Mike
