Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

President Obama has dug himself into an even deeper hole in his attempt to deliver on key campaign promises. Just in February and March alone (two months solely on his watch) he has presided over a record breaking nearly 2 million additional unemployed persons than when he took office. The national unemployment rate now surging well past 8.5% (double that of the majority of Bush’s two terms), Obama's unemployment percentage is the highest in 25 years, and his total of unemployed persons at over 13 million is a gross number that exceeds the 11 million plus of the depression era.

If President Obama inherited the greatest recession since the Great Depression, his policies, lack of action, and wrong headed decisions have now surged the nation passed it.

In pointing this out, a commenter on my blog this past week chided me, "it might take more than 72 days to fix it."

No one doubts that.

But fundamentally I can assert to you that Obama's policies have worsened the matter, and we are still only at the tip of the iceberg in terms of where his Titanic-type view of the economy is leading us.

You only need to understand a single word to be able to grasp the full concept: elasticity.

It is what Obama's policies lack, and without it there will be no foreseeable recovery for the economy for some time. Without it, Obama's trends on unemployment, consumer confidence, and economic recovery will stagnate--and that isn't going to help anyone.

But what do I mean?

Elastic is this fantastic quality found in rubber. Those who use rubber bands for anything as small as bunching things together or as large as bungee jumping from a bridge at several hundred feet understand its value. It is able to stretch, sometimes to the point where other substances would easily break, and as quickly as it had stretched it is able to recoil and return to its original state.

It is precisely the lack of elasticity in America's economy that will continue to give us high unemployment, low production, and poor quality.

But why is that important?

Pay attention here.

Elastic “conditions” (federal tax policies) encourage business owners, patent holders, and idea generators--to engage in risk, set up companies, hire people, and attempt to create, produce, or distribute goods and services. The economic elasticity comes in the form of sacrifice the individual idea generator, patent holder, or business owner is willing to engage in. Sometimes they will mortgage their home, sell off all their goods, and risk everything on the confidence of their idea. Understanding that the onus of their success rests upon their own shoulders they engage in the level of risk or sacrifice that they are comfortable with, in the hopes of producing far more than what they originally put at risk in the first place.

Risk is the currency in an elastic economy. It says to someone who has an idea for a product, "Do you think you can actually pull this thing off?"

Traditionally in economies where America has thrived, we have made it our business as a society to reward those who take the risk. We do this through tax incentives on invention, business development, hiring workers, and increasing production.

Engaging in risk does not benefit everyone who engages in it, and many lessons have been learned by society and the individuals who have failed to become the success their original idea had given them the hope of.

But it is resolutely true that without many risk takers undergoing the lumps in their throats, the sinking in the pit of their stomachs, and the massive sacrifice of much--the American economy would have dried up long ago.

The problems with Obama's entire approach to economic development is that he replaces risk with status quo, limited outcomes, and static conditions for all.

For what it’s worth, static conditions do exactly the opposite of risk.

I was with a CEO of a company in Virginia (several actually) last weekend and the thing he blurted out in the middle of breakfast was, "When conditions are bad get your arms around the cash."

In other words, hold on to resources, become miserly, take less risk, and attempt less or even no growth. When risk is looked at as suspect, success is punished as criminal, and taxes force the productive to no longer be motivated to achieve more, things grind to a painfully ugly halt. And that's exactly where we find ourselves in 2009.

Elastic economies create, produce, thrive, and teach lessons. Static ones stunt, inhibit, block, and eventually shut down.

Jobs are not created in a vacuum. If there is no benefit to the corporation hiring them, then they should not be given a job, plain and simple. No one has a Constitutional right to a job.

But everyone should be given the same chance at success or failure, risk or reward, responsibility or consequence.

President Obama has chosen instead to spend money we haven't yet printed. He also insists on creating jobs that serve no economic purpose in "greening" the most environmentally conscious nation on earth. On top of that he stifles the risk-takers from creating new products, developing growth, or starting businesses. And that money he's photocopying in the basement of the White House, when it is printed, will be nearly worthless because of the lack of securities behind it.

So to sum up...

Obama is shrinking the pie, AND simultaneously filling it with devalued currency.

Doing so alone would be harmful enough, but doing so while suffocating the breath out of the only elements of the economy that could allow us to recover (elastic risk) verges on arrogant, maniacal, or criminal.

I'll let you decide which you believe it to be.

I
would say all three with an additional one,
Demonic.

Not complicated.

Whatever you want less of... just tax it.

And "the one" still keeps saying that all he wants is to help the little people... has done exactly the opposite.

And likewise, the time for blaming it on Bush has passed and is also no longer resonating with the folks... many of who pulled the lever for "the one".

Tea parties... April 15th.

I
would say all three, add Tea Party's "Demonic,"
and add Treasonous.

Let's Have A Fa-g Party!

Kevin haven't you heard that only those that risk do so only for the sake of His Barackness.

And, he talks about "spreading the wealth", but penalizes the poor that smoke and use energy.

Let's skip the tea parties and substitute "Fa-g (as in British slang for a cigarette) Parties". We can increase turnout by including Constitutionalists, taxpayers, Socialists, smokers, etc., and do so in the name of children. Yes, cigarette taxes will pay for S-Chip, but what happens to the poor, little ones when taxpayers die or move to another country?

Does Obama think that only the "evil" rich smoke or use energy?

You would think that a caring Government would worry about the health of all of its people. Evidently, they are stupid enough that their policies will topple from their own weight or through attrition. Of course, who will take care of the poor children when we are dead?

Not demonic
Obama is a forerunner of THE anti-Christ.
To battle his plans is to do the work of God.

For the love of Liberty
I understand and respect the concerns of many people with regards to this issue but I feel I must make mention of the elephant in the room. This article calls for elasticism....why can that not be applied to the issue of prohibition? Billions are spent enforcing it, billions are lost in spite of it; why does the president scoff at this? Don't think we should have outright legalization? Fine, but we need to do something with this, some kind of policy change is paramount in addressing not only our financial woes, but also our sociological ones. A large portion of the populous is demonized, mocked and ridiculed for what they choose to ingest into their own bodies. This creates alienation, which begets contempt, which spirals into dissent and the fabric of society frays at a perpetually accelerated rate. What is it about the notion of an America without prohibition that scares everyone so deeply? The world will not come to an end, I can assure you of this. These policies have only been in place for less than a hundred years. America survived the first half of her life in their absence, I do believe she could get by a hundred more without them. But she definitely will NOT make it another ten years with them.

Another nonsensical article
McCullough makes multiple logical errors in this column (as usual).

He begins by insinuating that Obama is to blame for the current unemployment rates. But these unemployment rates were predicted by economists well before Obama took office, making it impossible to draw a causal relation to Obama's policies. It's way too early to tell, but this doesn't matter for McCullough.

McCullough uses this odd "elasticity" concept for describing supposedly healthy economies, which somehow promotes more risk taking. I'll admit I'm no economist, but this particular metaphor makes no sense to me. Doesn't elasticity refer to a substance that has the ability to stretch and then spring back to it's original size? How does this relate to risk?

McCullough then waves his hands to claim that Obama's policies are producing stagnation rather than elasticity (risk). But he never explains why this is so. It seems that Obama's stimulus package would in itself increase opportunities for risk-taking as opposed to stagnation.

Too Late - It is too long until 2012
The only hope we have is to knock the dems out in 2010, but a lot of damage will be done before that time. Clinton's first two years are proof of that.

Dr. Dumbazz & economics
Your one valid comment is that you don't understand economics.
"Elasticity" is fundamental. It essentially refers to responsiveness to conditions, like pricing (or risk and reward). If demand for cars drops when prices rise, then demand is elastic. If smoking decreases when cigarettes cost more, that's because of elasticity. Ultimately, all demand is "elastic", since no one can pay an infinite price for something, but there are degrees, and even negative elasticity. For example, for some luxury cars demand drops when prices drop (in certain ranges), because what is being purchased is exclusivity.

An inelastic response permits huge profits per item that ultimately attract competitors who drive the price back down.

So, now you know the basics. "risk elasticity" thus means that effort to obtain a reward under risky conditions responds to the size of the reward. If there is a broken connection between risk and reward, no effort. No innovation. No new jobs. Stagnation, or worse.

Capisce?

Brian
Congratulations on assuming a huge risk. You are investing time and brainpower apparently attempting to inform and educate a troll. You haven't a prayer, Sir. Even some street corner droopy drawers invests his own time and money where he thinks he will get the most return from it. But these moonbats can't figure out that other people do that too. They think business owners are not capable of looking at their assets and deciding to put them where they will get the most return. If the options on investing favor losing it, they will not invest. If it looks like business will slow, they will not hire. Why increase expenses when there is small to no expectation of increased gross. ScottK says it is simple. You want less of it, tax it more. He is absolutely correct. NYC taxes big wage earners more, they soon have less of them. I hardly think Rush is the only big money maker leaving. If it weren't for Texas, he could go to Mexico, or the Bahamas. Big money is welcome where ever it goes.

Dr Dougie.............

.........you really can't help it, can you sport? You really are as dumb as you come across, aren't you.

Obamalama's Stinkulous Package is throwing money at "the problem". Sadly, they haven't a clue about the REAL problem. Otherwise that "stimulus" wouldn't have included such nonsense as $260M for Hollywood to buy film.

Worst Column On Economics Ever
Although he doesn't blame Obama for the current economic mess that the Bush administration has left us, he suggests that a president has so much control over an economy that he can turn it around within a couple of months.

Although he is right that businesses can profit more when they don't have to pay for public goods, he's missed the elephant in the room: much of our prosperity over the last three decades is a result of borrowing from abroad and that the debt burden has become heavier and heavier and heavier. Either we ourselves have to pay for our government and stop borrowing or our children are going to pay for it.

Not demonic?
Obama may be a type of anti Christ and one of many..Hitler, Stalin, etc.

Paul said, Ephesians 6:12 "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spirtual wickedness in high places."

By our rebellion against God, we have empowered the
demonic to invade our country and our culture.
Anything goes these days; what else explains the blind worship of O but demonic deception;
there is a spirit of wickedness hanging over our land. While Tea Parties are great, and I support them because they do make a statement
to the powerful; our main focus needs to be on our knees in repentence for our national sins.
It would really help if our spiritual leaders, those, (not the Vicky Gene Robinson reprobates)
would call upon the people to fast and pray for our country.

It's like that swirling, shifting black cloud that personified evil in the movie, "Something Wicked This Way Cometh" from years ago.

I agree with article in part!
Good article however this is not about getting this country back on track as a capitilist nation inwhich "elasticity" would be a major factor, it's about "dependability on government" which is "power of men". This is payback by the democrat George Soros types for the 2000 election of George W. The Democrats have been hatching this plan for a very long time because the "Change In Life" we are now going through was impossible to impliment in just 60 days without thorough preplanning. Once this bunch of liers and tax cheats stack the courts with their brand of activist judges our constitution will be meaningless and we will be finished as a nation we once knew and the democrats will be in power forever. My big question is, Who is going to pay for all of this as we are not only killing our financial future by all this deficit spending but we are killing our future workers by aborting them before they are born. I guess this is why we do nothing about illegals entering our once great nation. We did not kick God out of our country, he left while the getting out was good. Change can be painful but Cancer is too and I feel we are at stage 3 and socialized medicine will not help. I thank my God for protecting my country for as long as he did but his patience is not endless and when it comes to an end our nation will be naked before him and subject to the whims of man. Welcome to the third world of nations. "Change We Can Believe In".

.Markets hate uncertainty

Our economy went in the tank when it became evident that BHO was going to be the democratic candidate and has been tanking ever since as gauged by unemployment numbers.

Uncertainty...we don't really know who he is or what he really believes. Is he a communist, a socialist, a racist, or even an American citizen? Is he a closet muslim? What's his real name?

It would certainly be a big step in the right direction if the POTUS would let the population he governs take a close look at his g-damn birth certificate. What is there to hide that is worth this uncertainty? It makes no sense.

Barack Hussein Obama, who are you really??? Until I know, I'm keeping my arms around the cash.

Homage in Saudi
Maybe the other "great one" Obambi bowed to knows where his birth certificate is hidden. Could it be the desert dunes of an oil rich land? You know the land that can raise our energy prices at a moments notice. We need to keep an eye on him Hawk Eye.

economy
Both Bush and obama are to blame for this mess. However the biggest fault can be blamed on congress.First with the allowance of the federal Reserves power to print money. Then to allow the sec.of treas. unprecedented power. They provide no oversight on what he does, along with Bernancke and Paulson. All this bailout money is to protect their wall street buddies and bankers. So instead of laying the blame on themselves they demonize ceo's.The cro's are not without blame, for allowing the pres.and congress into their businesses

The Birth Certificate
Solution -- Obama should release the birth certificate and all other pertinent documents. That he will not do so is in self damning and suspect. When will someone ask him why he will not do so?

He will continue to blame
everything on Bush with the help of the mainstream media. When that is no longer possible, he'll stifle the press, and all communications. His gang will hunt down and punish all opposition until we're silent and helpless. He's more frightening than the terrorists because of the unlimited power he has.

Dr Douglas, I thought you found humility
and went away.

Enter therapy, work on that Narcissism bit, and then come back when you have found your true self - The self your mommy usurped via excessive childhood approbation.

Mr. Giles is spot-on....
..in his assessment of the rock star messiah in chief, but to his blind and slobbering serfs, it won't mean much. He has millions of worshipers who are completely mesmerized by his mere prescence. I personally know a few, and it's both amazing and sad to watch.

Democratic voters have an enormous masochistic streak in their programming. Add that to their delayed adolescence, and you'll have sheeple who will basically surrender everyone's freedoms out of respect and obedience to their master.

Evie: BINGO!!!
.

How many of you
would like to see Odumbo chane places with the Hope that was good for America: Bob?
Both have the same right to be President: Bob wass born in England and Odumbo was born in Kenya, both under the same monarchy.

Bob had a long history of helping America and the American Soldiers. Odumbo has a short history of screwing America and American Soldiers.

Which of the two would you rather have as President?

Titanic? or a million canoes? Butt out!
The image of the titanic is a misleading analogy for the market. The market is the economy. When the market does well, the economy is said to do well, and when it does poorly, the economy is said to be doing poorly.

The market exists with or without the blessings of politicians. Ignoring it in contemplating the economy is like ignoring gravity when designing airplanes. It's not going to end well.

The market consists of billions of voluntary transactions happening at a lightning pace, 24/7. No human, not even Obama, or group of humans, not even our brilliant congressmen, can begin to comprehend a millionth of the market, and if they could, that comprehension would evaporate in the next second.

The economy is not some monolithic vessel. It is a billion canoes, each negotiating their own course in voluntary cooperation with all the other paddlers. No one is smart enough to direct them. Spontaneous order is what directs them. Butt out!!!

2Spothipshot #5
Odumbo is the third appearance in human form of the Antichrist (Hitler was the second), as predicted by Nostadamus.

jax33: The democ-rats controlled Congrass when all these economic fits happened.

criminal intent
The actions of this novice POTUS border on criminal. . . He is jurting everyone in this country. I contend that he is a traitor, willfully or unintentionally. . . Either way he should not be in the White House. We need to get rid of him now! Where is his birth certificate, and where are the SCOTUS judges that are supposed to see that the constitution is followed? They all need to be replaced. Judges need to have terms of 2 years. If you can not get anything done in that much time to bad. .

Obama appears smart

only to those who are dumb.

I wonder how many of those who voted for him bothered to read "The Case Against Barack Obama" by David Freddoso.

SAR

As Laura Hollis
so eloquently put it in her article of February 16, “News Flash, they don’t want a stimulus.”

Charles Krauthammer is more naïve. His article of April 3rd stated that Obama’s ultimate agenda was one based on fairness for everyone.

If that were really true, I doubt there would be much opposition. Everybody wants a fair America. But I agree with Laura Hollis who thinks that Obama knows just what he is doing and his ultimate plan is the destruction of America.

Dictators have used this plan before. Find a demon, create a crisis, stoke panic, then convince the people that only their government can rescue them.

Liberals with Obama at the helm have created several demons. Capitalism, global warming, greedy executives, to name just a few. His policies which will depress the economy even more and create inflation along with an unbearable tax burden on individuals and business will stoke the panic. This gives Obama all the ammunition he needs to swoop in and take over. Once the people are in a full-blown state of panic, they will literally hand over their lives and all their power to the would-be savior.

Obama is no fool. He is a wanna-be world ruler. If he is not stopped, he will accomplish with the people’s blessing what Hitler was never able to do.

hail to the chief
Well said #1. You got it exactly correct. His agenda is power, pure and simple. Never let a crisis go to waste. What a group of political stooges running our country. Welcome comrade to the new America.

The Real Intent
of barry's is to destroy the United States of America. Moving to a red state, anyone?

Ron
Actually the Democrats controlled Congress for all of Bush's presidency. Sure, there were more Republicans in both houses, but the Republicans never quite believed they were in control. And the Democrats never let on that THEY were OUT of power.

Still, the economy continued to grow, inflation stayed low, and unemployment stayed VERY low--until the Democrats actually did win control of both houses, when they had more power to bring down the economy and discourage creation of wealth.

Obama is, of course, the frosting on the cake. Although he WAS a member of the Senate for the last two years of the Bush administration (when HIS party WAS in power), and even though he proposed NOTHING that might have "saved" us, the MSM will allow him to continue to claim that he "inherited" this mess.

DICTATORSHIP ARISES
DICTATORSHIP OF THE LEFT WING ANTI-AMERICANS...

HAVE A NICE DEPRESSION.

OH, BY THE WAY...DID YOUR SON SIGN UP FOR SELECTIVE SERVICE IN ORDER TO ACCESS BENEFITS FROM THE GOVERNMENT?

TAKE A SERIOUS LOOK AT THIS PROGRAM--IT REEKS OF TOTALITARIANISM.

ROWDY BOOTS

All True....But
A good argument about what is wrong with the policy....but... The problem I see with the argument is, "if" the Obama policy does not work, then the economy does not recover. If it does not recover, then Obama just has another excuse to ask for more money to solve the problem. It really does not matter if his policy is wrong, what matters is he just has another excuse to throw more money at the prolbem.

Perhaps We Can Draft McCain?
Kevin,

We cannot do much right now to fight the spending as the bills have been signed.

Sadly, there isn't much choice when and IF it comes to the potentially tyrannical government altering (IN ANY WAY) our Bill of Rights.

With Barry Soertero (now known as his chosen name of an Islamic jihadist Barrack Hussein Obama) telling the socialists in Europe that "America is made up bad and self-serving people" makes us one step closer to living under tyranny. The insult alone is bad enough to cause Obama's removal from office.

How many times has America saved other nations from oppression?! It's the message of Christ, right? There is a season and a time for everything and the time to fight for what is right is very close. Now we need to fight for our own nation's freedom.

I'm not saying this because Mealer Companies has not yet been funded through the original platform and hedge funding plan (my stress level is high, believe me!). I fully expected to use my financial and new US Automaker business to get the USA revving up again.
Way back when we first spoke about this.

Obama is making laws to prevent people like me from building a successful company and hopefully inspiring others, YET.. the Green Automobiles and power source are exactly what they 'seem' to be talking about. I could be between a rock and aahrd place, but we will see.

NO. As a matter of fact Kevin, I will succeed with Mealer American Motors Corp and I will do it with or without the democrats and Obama. They cannot deny it is the right thing to do. for America. You know I am outspoken (probably too much so), but this is going to happen because it has to.

I'll call you for the kick off WHEN funding happens. ((Yes, I know you told me no more false funding starts.. but the failure did not come from my end.)) I will do it.

Best column KMcC has ever written.
Excellent exposition of the concept of risk as currency in an economy.

As a by-product, great exposition of Dr. Doug as an economically illiterate leftist buffoon.

Jim

He Can't Blame Bush For This...
What do the ten US cities with the highest poverty rate all have in common?

1. Detroit, MI (1st on the poverty rate list) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1961.

2. Buffalo, NY (2nd) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1954.

3. Cincinnati, OH (3rd) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1984.

4. Cleveland, OH (4th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1989.

5. Miami, FL (5th) has never had a Republican mayor.

6. St. Louis, MO (6th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1949.

7. El Paso, TX (7th) has never had a Republican mayor.

8. Milwaukee, WI (8th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1908.

9. Philadelphia, PA (9th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1952.

10. Newark, NJ (10th) hasn't elected a Republican mayor since 1907.

Einstein once said, "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

It is the disadvantaged, who habitually elect for Democrats, yet they remain disadvantaged.

"Poor People have been voting for Democrats for the last 50 years, and they are still poor."

So sayeth Sir Charles Barkley. And, he is right. Of course, he left out #11... New Orleans.

Further, don't confuse "Conservatism" with "Republicanism".

Must I bow to His Barackness and curtsey to Lady Macbeth?

Obama's Inheritance
I keep hearing he inherited 'this mess' from George Bush. How long will that dog hunt? Wasn't Obama part of congress for all of 143 days before he started running for office?

He wasn't there long enough to do much and that's just what he did. The last two years of Bushs' term the Democrat congress did everything in their power to get the snowball rolling that we are experiencing today.

Now it is an avalanche because they now have the power to rule it all. The got us into 'this mess',and it was no accident. It was a well-planned bloodless coup. Now we 'see through a glass darkly',but soon we will see their plan clearly. It will not be pretty.

The BIG PICTURE!

The real issue which is that everything
Pres. Obozo has done since 01-20-09, and much of what the demo Congress has done even prior to 01-20-09 is UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!!

What our Founding Fathers WERE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT was RESTRAINING GOVERNMENT AND ENSURING INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY!!!

We've taken our eyes off precisely what has made us the greatest country in the world... our Constitution.

And we’ve become a Godless nation, and as a result, we've lost all sense of morality and ethics!

One of our Founding Fathers, John Adams, wrote:

In an October 13, 1789 address to the military, he said:

"... Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

In a letter to Thomas Jefferson dated June 28, 1813, Adams wrote:

"The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity"

There is no question that our beloved Constitution and Judeo-Christian values and principles are unequivocally intertwined.

And, in addition to that, as if THAT isn't MORE than enough, we have a pres. who hasn't as much as run a lemonade stand!

Denise... Lots of Midwest cities listed

The industrial boom of decades past deposited great amounts of Heavy Metals and other toxins in the Great Lakes and other Midwest waterways.

Hmmm?

Are there any correlations between toxin intakes, such as Lead and Mercury, and mental disturbances such as depression and rage etc?

Lemonade Stand
He hasn't ever taken a stand on anything. He always voted "present" in the Senate. What he does run well is his mouth in front of a teleprompter dumbing down his dumb followers. WAKE UP DUM DUMS!

Equality is NOT Equal Outcomes

Everyone has the 'Right' to self determination, not Equal Outcomes.

Every family has individuals with different mental, social values and ethics.

Everyone in a family may start from the same point be it poor or rich. Individual pursuits and decisions will vary and the outcomes are dissimilar.

Those who work hard and make good decisions in life will prosper to the extent of their abilities and fail at the same rate with bad decisions and work ethics.

Those who live modestly within their means will do well, while those who live on credit cards and buy things beyond their means will suffer.

Just because one can buy things on credit like fancy food in a restaurant that is enjoyable and gone tomorrow or a car or house that is beyond their means to pay for, doesn't make them a victim of society but rather a victim of their own folly.

Expecting others to 'foot the bill' for their bad decisions is childish at best and 'legal stealing' at worst.

Within my family we have varied prosperity and incomes and that is the 'normal' family of man.

Equal Outcome apologists do NOT take into account Human Nature and its myriad of wants, needs and choices.

Equal Outcomes for all is 'Wildly Idealistic' at best and 'Insanity' at worst.

U.S. May Oust CEOs at Banks Needing ‘Exceptional’ Aid

April 5 (Bloomberg) -- Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said he’s prepared to oust the senior management and boards of directors at banks that require “exceptional” assistance from the U.S. government.

“If in the future, banks need exceptional assistance in order to get through this, then we will make sure that assistance comes,” while ensuring taxpayers are protected, Geithner said today in an interview on the CBS “Face the Nation” program. “Where that requires a change in management and the board, then we will do that.”

Geithner noted that American International Group Inc., Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac had their chief executives removed after it became clear the companies couldn’t survive without government rescues. The Treasury is reviewing how much capital the biggest U.S. financial companies need in order to endure a severe economic downturn.

“Where we’ve had to do exceptional things,” the government has replaced management and boards of directors, Geithner said.

Mr. McCullough, your saying that......
this is the "tip of the iceberg" for the new prez' economic agenda is so true! He has much more in mind with which to rape our country.

Will someone sue his administration or accuse him of high crimes and misdemeanors? Doesn't anyone believe he is violating the US Constitution?

His agenda is creating the America from which the CEO's in Atlas Shrugged retreated. I am of the opinion that we are to the place in that story to where Galt's Gulch will shut off all access to their valley. That is how far I believe our government has fallen.

His micromanagement to the end of making all equal (except for those comrades of his in government...and a few special cases outside the government....in order to carry on his agenda) has come to the point where too many voters no longer have minds of their own.....and that is part of his agenda.

Perhaps his inelasticity will be a rub to some. Perhaps his speaking out of both sides of his mouth will be a rub to some. Perhaps next year when the new tax burdens become apparent, that will be a rub to some. Perhaps some CEO's will vote Republican next time. Perhaps Republicans can come up with some great marketing skills.

Whatever it takes, before the collapse of liberty, we need a great American awakening. We need to start now.

I recommend Taylor Caldwell's book, The Devil's Advocate. This book is not attached to the Al Pacino movie at all. If everyone would read this book, we would have a Great American Awakening!

His Barackness' Ready For His Close-Up

Some say: "Everything about the way he conducts himself disproves all the lies about him spread during the campaign."

Au contraire, he is "acting" exactly as he campaigned. For many of us, we have known that he was telling the truth about his agenda all along. The only difference is that, instead of selling "Sugarcandy socialism" to just us arrogant Americans, he is going for the Jack Dawson, "I am the King of the World" role.

Sayeth His Barackness:

Don't be silly. Shut up, I'm rich! I'm richer than all this old or new trash! I've got a printing press and still have checks at The Treasury.

I AM big. It's the bitter or rich people that got small.

There's nothing tragic about being poor. Not unless you're trying to have money or used to have any.

All right, World, I'm ready for my close-up.

THE COMING REVOLUTION
".....Whatever it takes, before the collapse of liberty, we need a great American awakening. We need to start now......"
-----------------------------------
PAMELA, I totally agree. I do believe the "sleeping giant" is slowly awakening and is not at all happy with the greedy power grab, the corruption, secrecy, lies and deceit. We will be ready when the time comes. I am sure of it. The first step will be the hundreds of Tea Parties, just to let Washington know we are now paying attention. Then it will be the midterm election, using our most powerful weapon. If any corrupt orgainization such as ACORN tries to fix the count, we will go to the third step. It won't be pretty.

Mon Dieu!!!

Obama has lessened the travel restrictions to Cuba, but has strengthened travel vistas to Antarctica???.

I mean who really travels to Antarctica?

We now know that His Majesty has lost his mind completely.

Mon Dieu!

Brother, Can You Spare A Wilson Dime?

While we have had dimes since they were commissioned by the Coinage Act of 1792, production "only" began in 1796. We have had many versions, but it took Woodrow Wilson to change it's the meaning dramatically. Although most commonly known as the Mercury dime, the coin does not depict the Roman messenger god, but, instead was the Roman symbol for fascism (a bundle of sticks, wrapped in rope, with an ax attached) . The obverse figure is a depiction of the mythological goddess Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, a classic symbol of liberty and freedom, with its wings intended to symbolize freedom of thought. Designed by noted sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, the Winged Liberty Head dime is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful U.S. coin designs ever produced.

Weinman (who had studied under Augustus Saint-Gaudens) won a 1915 competition against two other artists for the design job, and is thought to have modeled his version of Liberty on Elsie Kachel Stevens, wife of noted poet Wallace Stevens. The reverse design, a fasces juxtaposed with an olive branch, was intended to symbolize America's readiness for war, combined with its desire for peace. Although the fasces symbol was later adopted by Benito Mussolini and his National Fascist Party, the symbol has remained quite common in American iconography and has generally avoided any stigma associated with its usage in wartime Italy.

Wilson's Dime was replaced to some degree by the FDR Dime in 1946, as a commemoration of his death. Sadly, most of their ideas didn't "leave" with them.

Stifling of capitalism
I know when some capitalists gouge the consumer we get mad, but
there is a solution. We just don't buy their product. You don't need a politician to do that. By making the politician the policy maker and
god we already have a solution for that to. That's called voting.
What is going on now is the mechanizing of making sure there are
enough votes to always get elected. That is the reason there is so much urgency to legalize those 12 to 15 million immigrants as fast as possible. The Tax-ocrats aren't the only group trying that tactic, there are many so-called republicans who are guilty of it too.
When you penalize the risk taker you take away the incentive to
produce new products and thereby stagnate the economy.
I know this will sound ridiculous, but I firmly believe that this messiah wants this country to fail. That 20 years of listening to
Jeremiah wasn't wasted. Only time will tell.
Has this person just once praised this country. Just once. If you will go over his remarks, you will see the results. God, I hope I'm wrong!

Are we there yet???
But what if - maybe, just maybe Mr. O. really does understand exactly what he is doing and isn't naive or stupid after all?

Article 2, Section 4 of The Constitution:
"The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribary, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
A high crime is one which seeks the overthrow of the country (check), which gives aid or comfort to its enemies(check), or which injures the country to the profit of an individual group(check). In democracies it also includes crimes which attempt to alter the outcome of elections (check).
My goodness, that just about covers everything, doesn't it? I'd guess we are just about there.

Libs: Give Yourself Death
Since Liberty is meaningless to you.

To assist you, long since have I been ahead of the curve...

I have driven a foreign car since I was 18. Expensive Europeans are my favorite, but a Japanese will do.

I refuse to buy anything "Union-Made" unless there is no other choice.

I converted my assets to gold, diamonds, silver, platinum and land long before the "bubble" burst (July), especially when it became apparent that Mugabe might be elected. Further, only my estate attorney knows in which country the movables are located.

I spend money only one day a week.

I have reinvested my income into my company so that I will be under the $250K figure.

I own my own home.

I send my children to private schools.

I will not send you a tire gauge.

I own a police-issued riot gun, along with other firearms that go perfectly with my 1000 designer FMPs, which will aid me handsomely should His Barackness' goons try to confiscate anything.

And, I have a $20M life insurance policy and trust funds for my two children in case I lose, but keep in mind that insurance proceeds are not subject to the death tax.

Keep living in your Otopia, because many with brains are far in advance of you. Either our assets are hidden or known only to our foreign estate attorneys.

Have a nice Jim Jones day and drink more Obama Kook-Aid. Oh, and fill up your gas tank, and more natural gas or petroleum products, including lipstick.

My business thanks you very much.

Peggy, I'm sure you agree
that our most powerful weapon is not the vote. Our most powerful weapons are, in fact, our weapons. Hundreds of millions of them.

Tea Party has it right and I agree!
God has already told us what we need to do but we continually ignore His direction.
"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and heal their land." 2 Chronicles 7:14.
We are so like our own children who think they know what is best even thought our past reveals the truth, and those who will not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it.

We need to repent individually and turn to
God, placing our faith and trust in His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.
We need to pray for our Nation as a whole, that God will forgive us and heal our land.
We need to show up at the nearest Tea Party to let our "leaders" know that enough is enough and we mean business.

Just remember: Keeping God out of everything has allowed us to come to this point in time.
He loved us enough to die for us so that we could have a real relationship with Him, so why is it so hard to trust Him with our future?
God will take care of His children, He always has but He does expect us to be proactive. April 15th is just one of the ways that we can make our voices heard, so, speak up America!!

Higher salaries than the rest of the
world cannot be sustained without the means to pay such salaries. We have experienced this in the money brokering and automobile building and now news priniting,

What the Unions have not hurt the government has by allowing all our productivity to be outsourced and the balance of trade completely out of whack.

It is not an Obama thing or a Bush thing as much as a Congressional thing. There are no business people or producers in congress. They simply do not know, They buy their brains in think tanks and those academia high paid folks have never made a payroll.

Wow
Under Obama in his two and a half months in office the unemployment rate has soared to the highest in 25 years. I wonder who the incompetent boob was who was in office 25 years ago.

Amen, Jay Leno - I
To Those of You Born Between 1930 - 1979:

At the end of this post is the quote of the month by Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please read what he said. Very well stated, Mr. Leno.

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OK.

Amen Jay Leno - II
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride them down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms. WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of.. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

If YOU are one of them? CONGRATULATIONS!

Amen Jay Leno - III
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

It kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:

"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us, think again.

Denise:
I agree with all of this. But ...

We also executed child molesters when they were caught. If not when caught, then later after they were tried and convicted. Now it isn't possible. We are depriving them of their 'rights'.

We didn't have the government adding things to our house water coming from the hose.

We didn't have to worry about being sued if a kid slipping on our grass and scraped his knee.

We didn't have the government mandating how to raise a child.

I don't really think we've progressed much. If anything, we've gone backward.

Doc D - Really?
"McCullough uses this odd "elasticity" concept for describing supposedly healthy economies, which somehow promotes more risk taking. I'll admit I'm no economist"

This is where you should have stopped, done a quick Wikki search and then proceeded.

Price elasticity is the measure of the change in demand for a good or service that results from a change in price. Price goes up, demand goes down and the contrary is also true. Now in the context of this article, risk is tax. Higher taxes, just like higher risk, make it less likely that an economic activity will result in the necessary return required to induce individuals to engage in that activity. More simply stated, risk-reward. Why would someone, anyone, assume risk without reward, pecuniary or otherwise?

Now I am new here, but I am not new to the planet, so Dr D, please in the future do not respond without first doing a minimum level research or giving a minimum level of thought to your responses.

Thank you in advance.
