Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The Lighthouse Theater on Manhattan's upper east side was jammed packed Saturday afternoon for what Talkers magazine's founder Michael Harrison billed as "the most important session" of the annual gathering of talk show hosts from across the nation. Not surprisingly Al Sharpton stood the event up, didn't bother calling, and must not have felt it was all that significant that Harrison himself - the greatest advocate of talk radio on the planet - had personally invited him to be one of a panel of six to slice and dice talk radio, race, and the future - perhaps especially significant in light of Barack Obama's possible upcoming presidency.

By my estimation there was one conservative, one center-left moderate, and four liberals on the panel. The task was simple: to engage in a discussion of ideas as to how non-dominant voices could be used in the medium of talk radio today.

Ideas to be covered included: should there be minority focused radio, how should minority voices be integrated into general market radio (radio that all people groups access), and other unique elements as it related to talk radio and race.

Larry Young of WOLB in Baltimore went first and commented on the influence and comfort of working in talk radio - following a 23 year career in the Maryland legislature. Lincoln Ware of WDBZ in Cincinnati went next and immediately began to attack the influence of Sean Hannity, repeatedly and without mercy. Sunny James, an African American female podcaster from DC followed - pinch-hitting for the blind-date no-show Sharpton, she mostly listened and promoted her own ability to fill in for other people. But she had seriously been put on the spot, and had no prepared remarks. Jesse Lee Peterson who hosts a syndicated show was the lone conservative on the panel, and remarked that he found it odd that Al Sharpton would not be there but that it didn't surprise him. Peterson went on to insist that minority focused ownership, programming, and promotion did not serve well the greater purpose of bringing people together.

When Peterson invoked that name of Sharpton and later Jesse Jackson he irritated the remaining two panelists Charles Ethridge a weekend co-host on New York's KISS-FM, and Coz Carlson WWRL's morning host also based in New York. Immediately the scene turned into five on one.

Immediately Mr. Ethridge claimed "racism" in the agencies that "buy" black owned stations, and what they are willing to spend as compared to "white" stations. Claiming that the "system" allowed stations who performed better in the ratings to only "earn" .92 for the "earnings" of 1.27 for "white" stations.

When Peterson interjected to make the claim that it was wrong for "black" stations to insist on being "given things" the same as "white" stations, Ethridge called him a fool, Carlson muttered that he should shut his mouth, and Lincoln Ware all but called him an uncle tom for being a black man that the "Sean Hannitys" of the world could control.

It seemed that the entire panel, sans Peterson, felt offended in the "truths" that Ethridge implied. And Carlson went so far, as to argue for the implementation of the fairness doctrine - without calling it by name.

In other words - not a single liberal or moderate on the panel had any understanding of the free market. And when Peterson attempted to point out that they were promoting the group think of Sharpton and Jackson, the feigned indignities reigned down, "let's not speak poorly of someone who's not here to defend themselves."

To wit Mark Levin responded from midway back in the Theater, "Like Sean Hannity?"

Full disclosure, I did a talk show in Chicago and then New York, both of which have thriving African American focused media operations in the community. Ethridge kept mumbling over and over again on the panel that "Madison Avenue" was in essence conducting apartheid in how "it" allocated it's dollars when it came to buying ads on radio stations.

I hate to tell Mr. Ethridge - but there was a fool on the panel - but it was not Peterson.

For anyone to make such a claim, that a fictitious entity, like "Madison Avenue" should be solely responsible for minority owned and operated radio from not making a buck - is ludicrous - more over it sounds like socialism to me. Towards the end of the rather raucous gathering Lincoln Ware returned to the theme admitting that if he had but one wish for the future of "black radio" it would be that "the man" would just learn to respect the "black dollar" more. Another insane statement from a worldview that places its blame for lack of success outside its own control.

Claiming advertising agencies would pay .30 cents less per spot on a "black" station than the same agency would pay on a "white" station means one thing for sure. That "black" radio station's sales staff doesn't understand how to compose a deal. And if you ask anyone in radio - stations that rely on ad agencies to buy up their inventory are not really putting their best effort forward to make the most amount of money anyway. Consider that my second year in New York WABC - the biggest talk radio station in America grossed $24 million in revenue, that same year under strong sales leadership WMCA grossed roughly $18 million. The difference being that WABC had at least seven or eight times the audience that WMCA had for the same period of time.

If some one isn't getting enough money from advertisers for their radio station - that's no one's fault but the sales people setting up the contracts.

For what its worth - on my show on WMCA in New York - African Americans made up the largest segment of my talk show audience - nearly 37%. Whites were next, followed by Latinos, Asians, and various Semitic and Arab groups following. In other words we were predominantly a"black listened too" radio station, at least more so than any other demographic.

Certainly given the numbers that KISS-FM could garner - being the number one, two, or three station in the market (above WABC-AM), surely they could have been as easily hard nosed about what their valuable air-time was worth and choose to do business with only those who would pay the rates of what their sizable audience would deliver.

The far more disturbing aspect of the panel than the fact that five liberal or center-left people complained about being victims (you always expect liberals to play the role of the victim) was the telling sign that they wished to institute "fairness doctrine" like tactics to fix it - which inherently would cause them to lose even MORE billing dollars by forcing them to deliver even smaller audiences in the future because of a lack of ability to generate the largest audience possible.

The ever fair Michael Harrison - never did get a straight answer to the very genuine follow-up question he posed about the fact that general market talk stations tend to draw sizable minority audiences anyway, so was there even a need for such minority owned/divisive concepts to programming to begin with.

The implications of the panel could not be more clear. The panel that represented "black radio" in America today wants government enforced rules that tells businesses how much they may spend on any given station for advertising. They argued this out of laziness, either on philosophical or staff physicality bases.

Even more telling they ignored the prophet in their midst, who articulately argued that success should be based on effort, integrity, and character.

Or as Darrel from the hit TV series "The Office" argued to his "white boss" Michael Scott, "You gots to earn son!"

#1 Conservative Talk Show
The #1 Conservative Talk Show host is Rush Limbaugh, Hand Down. Rush frequently has a black fill-in host. Walter.

The fact is, conservatism doesn't see race; we are ALL endowed by God. Period. This article is nonsensical from a conservative viewpoint.

Talk Radio is Horrible!
Uneducated disc jockeys like Limbaugh and Hannity do the same show everyday. A variation of some offensive comment like Rev Wright and beat it into the ground.Invite like minded listeners to make coded racist remarks.Cutoff any dissenting views as totally ignorant thought.Any liberal is beneath contempt. When have you heard any of these guys say you know that Obama might have some good ideas. Never.

bitaforitpush - or whatever the hell.
Get a proof reader, man. And put down your toke for a minute. Take a breath. McCullough's article is perfectly coherent and shows the racist left for what they are: dumbos, indicted by their own WORDS. What's your POINT?

Have to agree
This article is a poor example of writing, and I nearly didn't finish reading it.

As far as Talk Radio goes, I find it amusing to hear Rush being trashed by those who have never bothered to listen to his program.

I pretty much agree that Hannity is obnoxious, but, more times than not I don't disagree with the substance of his remarks, just the way he comes across.

As far as market share goes: How do they determine the numbers of a listening audience?

I'm so sick of worrying over the race issue. Radio is color-blind. You either want to listen to the program or you find something else.

Snerdly (on Rush Limbaugh's show) is the official Black spokesperson, and I find his snippets to be refreshing.

It is equally offensive to me to hear things like
Blacks can't be Conservatives without being Uncle Toms, OR
Women can't enjoy sports OR
The only way to fight racism is to employ racism.

Ridiculous.

Texaschuck
Obama and good ideas? Surely you jest.

The road to he!l is paved with good intentions.

A law to enforce the Lakers to take me
Okay, good points Kevin.

I'm 5'3" tall, but I want to be a basket ball player. I want to be on the Lakers team. But they won't accept me. I want a law enforced forcing them to put me on the team.

This is a strange but true analogy of how the "victim mentality" wants a law to force others to accept them regardless of talent, regardless of qualifications.

Homosexuals have the right to have sex with eachother in this country, but no, that's not good enough for them; they want a LAW forcing everyone to LIKE their lifestyle.

You can't make laws to enforce people to like you.

One thing that would help eradicate racism is to stop asking (and answering) those questionnaires that ask "what race are you?" SIMPLY CHECK "OTHER," AND THEN WRITE IN "HUMAN" on the line provided.

If we continute to only look at our differences they solidify into rock hard differences.

Even animals do not do this.

Liberal strategy is to divert via critic
You left wing PC socialists crack me up. The article made a the intended point in coherent fashion yet your approach(standard liberal protocol)was not to argue the substance of the article but to divert through critiqueing the sentence structure and syntax. Give me a break.

Monique
Who is trying to pass a law requiring you to like homosexuals?

Talk radio Is Horrible - Obama's "ideas"
Texaschuck: Ideas? WHAT ideas -- "change"? Every populist scoundrel since 1800 has howled for "change". "Yes we CANNNN?" Huh? Pu-leeze. This twerp thinks he can finally bring health care to the dying American populous who have lain in the gutter for gerations with flies buzzing around their fevered heads, and while he's at it, he'll halt the rising seas. He SAID so. He BELIEVES he's the One, the Annointed. Yes, Tex, Hannity is a flannel-mouth, that's true. But Prager, Hewitt, Medved, Ingraham, and scores of others (including Limbaugh), are more than eager to play the tapes IN FULL, and let us hear with our own ears what an OmamaNation would be like if this pipsqueek were to stumble into OUR Oval Office.

Many years ago...
...I read an article in National Review,a white guy from Louisiana was filling out a state census form.He came to a question that asked for his race.He put down "Negro".When he handed in the form, the clerk said "Excuse me sir,but you checked the wrong race."

The man replied "Oh? Have you ever seen my mother?" The clerk said:"I'm sorry.Excuse me".

The clerk,of course, had never seen his mother, who in fact was white, but assumed she was black. The point he was trying to make was why was the state even asking for his race. After all,all our ancesters emmigrated from Africa at one time or another and, at the time,Louisiana had the "one drop rule".One drop of Negro blood made you a Negro, and therefor could be segregated.

The whole issue is silly.

Interesting
Several commenters attack the messenger and ignored the message - that this panel was made up of members so wrapped up in their agendas that they really failed to make cogent points.

I did find the article difficult to follow because I'm not familiar with the panel members' work on talk radio.

I thought that there were black individuals who might have contributed a lot that weren't there. For example, Herman Caine, who fills in for Neal Boortz, Walter Williams, who fills in for Rush Limbaugh, Royal Marshall, engineer for Neal Boortz and talk show host on his own show in the Atlanta Market. Too Bad!

I had a black
radio once, and it talked when turned on. Brown, red and white ones worked too. So what is the state of black radio anyway? If you want to listen, turn it on. Foolish conversation and panel.

bitaforitpush
When you criticize another person's writing style and grammar, you would be well advised to do it using flawless grammar and style yourself. You failed to do so.

bita...whatever
Kevin's column really upset your little brain, eh?

Your one large paragraph attacking with irrelevant and hilariously inaccurate criticisms shows that you can't counter his report. And you project like an psychiatric inpatient. As it is said in Ebonics; "Da troof hoits", and you're at a loss for words.

Kevin's essay was an easy read with his points clearly expressed. Now have an adult explain it to you, and stop playing the latrine grammar teacher.

Liberal talk radio can't compete, especially black oriented stations, because the talent isn't there, their messages are always negative and dishonest, and most adults don't want to listen to hours of adolescent whining coming from alleged adults.

Those right-brained liberal blacks on the board exhibited their typical mindset. This cognitive map is opposite of almost every other race in America; they dishonestly attack everyone else, and then demand money and preferences from them. Life doesn't work that way, and it's the mindset of the classic loser.

Chronic, adolescent (and dishonest) whining from adults is excruciatingly boring, and it's almost embarrassing to listen to. That's one of the reasons most adults don't tune in to black talk radio.

Racist Radio?
Well, this piece might have been written a bit more clearly, but the gist of it came through: A panel with no understanding of market economics wrangled and mangled the subject of race in talk radio. I listen regularly to Rush, and I just don't hear the racism. I strongly suspect that the people who tell me it's there, in code, or who say things like,"What will it take to get you to admit that Rush is racist?" have never actually listened to the program.

I know for certain that I have heard pieces, like the the one in which Rush read from an editorial by a Black columnist for the L.A. Times, entitled, Barak the Magic Negro, which were later quoted out of context on lefty outlets, like Media Matters, making Rush sound like a racist. The problem was that I had heard the original.

I've been watching this process for nearly eight years now, the Left relying on Americans' short memories or lack of direct knowledge to say things that I knew, because I take notes, were factually not true. In fact, if you do take notes, it will not take long to find the "party line" contradicting itself.

hey, Texas -
Please give us ONE good idea Obama has had - be specific and outline the details, so that we can intelligently debate its merits and practicality.

It seems....
That Mr. Ware and the other panelists except Mr. Peterson are mostly jealous of the SUCCESS of people like Sean Hannity. They can try to hide this fact behind the liberal catch-all 'racism' whine; but it is glaringly obvious.
Mr. Peterson and the article writer have good points: if 'black radio' wants more money, EARN it by growing the audience, then advertising revenue will grow with good sales staff.
To demand the same money as someone else simply because darnit, you have a radio show too, is just pathetic and childish.
Yes, we were created equal, but we have to rely on our abilities after that.
Fourty years of racial preferences, quotas and ever-growing entitlement mentality have led to this situation.
Liberals first see categories: race and gender, then make judgment. Ablity and content of character don't matter or count.
What a travesty this has become.
Dr. King must be spinning in his grave.

People listen to and
watch what they want. Radio and television shows last as long as the audience is there. There is nothing unfair about it. It is fair to the audience. They are the consumers and ultimately decide the success or failure of what is offered by turning the dial on or off.

there's no guarantee to an audience.
I don't think talk radio, or the U.S. government, has any OBLIGATION to ensure that "all voices" are represented over the airwaves.

The airwaves may be public property, but that does not guarantee a right to an audience.

The marketplace ought to decide that.

I have little use for Limbaugh, Hannity, et al, but no one is compelling listeners to tune in to these blowhards.

I know I am a fine American, and I don't need some clown like Sean Hannity to tell me that.

Free will, and the marketplace, not government, not even some talk radio industry's subjective sense of "fairness", ought to sort this issue out.

Bit off too much!

Dear Kevin,
Dear Kevin McCullough, [Why twice?]

I don't know if [correct word is 'whether'] you remember me,.. In fact, it's mostly on [in response to?] your articles as opposed to others' [sic] that.... This is because [awkward] you may ['might' - may is for permission] be the worst writer [unlikely and useless hyperbole - the writer has no knowledge of everybody] on the Internet. I don't know if [sic again]...your "column" [improper use of quote marks, missing comma] or...copy-edited [missing comma, now a run-on sentence] or that you never passed remedial English Writing and can't tell the difference...

bit off too much! -2
The whole...dichotomy that many conservative "alternative" [quotes] voices like yours lean on is propped up by the belief that those writing outside the institutions of mainstream print-oriented distribution can write just as well as those with the "correct" [quotes] politics who make it in the business. [Dichotomy propped up? internet not mainstream now? The columnist hasn't "made it", but the critic has?] Your poor, abysmally written offerings give New Media boosters [trite] everywhere headaches for [sic - 'by' or 'from'] having to make the kind of excuses that begin, "Well, his hearts [sic - possessive reqd.] in the right place, but..." [no evidence - just assertions] That is, the kind of excuses that can only be seen as concessions to the Old Media "gatekeepers." [not a sentence, and 'excuses' doesn't logically follow from 'headaches'.] There's more at stake here than the opinions of small-time blog readers and [small-time?!] talkback-posters like me. [sic - you are the opinion?] ...Or else, well, don't quit you [sic] day job. [Trite, meaningless injunction. Or else what? What exactly is at stake and what is your case?]

Best, [Really? That's your best? Don't quit you day job!]

They primarily argued this because they are African American radical facists, like so many in that group that are bent on taking away our free speech and other rights. Nothing ignorant about it. They are the slave masters of the 21st century.

The disease of Egalitarianism.

Ludicrous it may be, but it's par for the course. What took them so long to get around to this? For 40 years the socialist Left has been saying that whites are responsible for blacks getting poor grades, living in poverty, going to prison, etc. The only way to fix this is to give them affirmative action. We must have equality of outcome at any cost.

"The whole issue is silly."

Yes, so silly it will destroy this country unless people begin to see how serious it really is.

one needs to keep searching
one needs to keep searching for racism to keep it alive and well.

having a lazer focus on racism will help you find it everywhere. whithout racism, what would people think about before they go to sleep at night?

without racism, there is no purpose in life. if people are happy and making their own way how will Jessie and Al make a living?

keep the spirit alive... go out and find, or commit a rasist act today... it will make you feel good about yourself.

Funny, do you think putting a writer down for his writing skills (or lack of) somehow demeans him enough to shake him out of his opinion on the subject.
Well, sorry to let you know but he is right. Free market should set the standard for talk radio and not the government. If they can suppress free talk by making someone share time with gibberish people do not want to hear, it is still a basic right taken away from all the people.
Why not stick to the story and not worry about someone’s writing ability? You seem smart enough to do that. I can’t write for crap, but I will still post. But then like me, Kevin may have started in publik schools and they are not great places for learning. And you should take that into consideration.

Why is this not anti-Semitic?

Ann Coulter, ‘Jews Need to Be Perfected by Becoming Christians’

Do you think Ann Coulter comments were anti-Semitic?

FOX-Slash-and-burn columnist Ann Coulter shocked a cable TV talk-show audience Monday when she declared that Jews need to be “perfected” by becoming Christians, and that America would be better off if everyone were Christian.

Coulter made the remarkable statements during an often heated appearance to promote her new book on advertising guru Donny Deutsch’s CNBC show “The Big Idea.”

Confusing the Issue
As several posters have already noted it seems that if liberals can't refute the truth or logic of your argument they resort to criticizing your writing style or ability. Or in going at the conservative talk show hosts they bring up how "rude" or "loudmouth" or "nasty" or "(fill in your own adjective)" the person is. Of course if they disagree with the host anything that talk show personality says is rude etc. even if the host spoke with civility and respect. I work with a man who constantly criticizes Limbaugh and Hannity for nastiness but can't really point to a specific example. However he saw nothing wrong when Hugo Chavez the leader of Venezuela(a man who should know better how to talk to and about people) call our President "The Devil". For liberals I'm afraid the delivery of the message has become at least as important if not more so than its content.

why would
any conservative sit on a panel that is 80% liberal. do you think that was a fair discussion. also, lets have a panel on why there is so much racism against white men on abc, cbs and nbc. also npr..... and why are there no quotas for the national basketball asso and the national football leagues. america is 75% white and these leagues are 75% black. sounds like the gov picks and chooses which employer it sues to force population quotas.

On the Fairness Doctrine
I thought that we had a First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that guaranteed freedom of speech. This Fairness Doctrine was a bad idea and a failure back in the day and it still is. I had friends in college back in the 70's who were in radio. They told me how many of the radio stations had to go to all music formats even if they wanted to do at least some talk for fear that they would have to provide equal time if someone disagreed with them. Let the market work. We don't need the government trying to control speech by sneaking in the back door a bad law this way. I don't know what people are complaining about unless they just want a total monopoly on what gets aired. I am grateful for the Internet, Fox News and conservative talk radio. The liberals have had almost a near monopoly on getting out information for years. Now we conservatives have some outlets of our own(successful by the way) and they don't like it. So much for free speech and tolerance.

Wilson54
The liberals have had almost a near monopoly on getting out information for years.

It has not been many years ago that they did have a monopoly on news and what opinion was gave out. Remember when there was only 3 national TV stations? Like, Communist Broadcasting System or National Broadcasting Communist? And last but not least, Always Been Communist! The days of Walter the commie Kronkite and his pals like hanoi jane fonda are over and gone and it’s killing them.

government control
I am amazed at how many people will in one breath say the government should stay out of their life when it comes to their choices. But then turn right around and expect the government to fix everything.

I'm glad Ron Paul is so popular, a growing number of people are seeing what the government should and shouldn't do.

The real truth is hard to handle
I don't have much luck with talk shows. (I think it's my voice)I really am a nice guy but I have some crazy ideas. For example, after coming in contact with the message of the "Chaplain of the Alaska Pipe line, I try to tell them that we have a classified oil well that has enough oil and natural gas in it to last America 200 years on Gull Island Alaska in the Prudoh oil fields, and that our wonderful government will not tell the American people about it, They interrupt me and close off with their opinions. They won't let me tell them that his book, "The Energy Non-Crisis" is no longer available as the author has been threatened. So I just figure they are too dumb to investigate my information or either they might be threatened if they do. What do you think?

I don’t demand eloquence, but...
Look, I don’t want to see the Fairness Doctrine return, and I agree that the free market should reign in the area of talk radio (and most other places). I don’t know who bitaforitpush is, but he is right; from a purely grammatical standpoint, Kevin McCullough’s article is definitely very poorly written, and tearing into bit’s grammar doesn’t make McCullough’s any less appalling. McCullough is also paid to write these articles, which makes him a professional writer, unlike most, if not all, of us posting here. Yet he seems to have no idea of how to use commas properly, uses “it’s” (it is) in place of “its” (possessive), “too” where he should use “to”, his pronouns don’t always agree with their antecedents, either in number or in class, and he uses “quotes” in a “way” that “make” his “sentence” ambiguous “and” cumbersome (see how annoying that is?).

Eloquence III
Next sentence: “Claiming that the "system" allowed stations who performed better in the ratings to only "earn" .92 for the "earnings" of 1.27 for "white" stations.” Again, what does this really mean? I’m assuming again that McCullough puts the word “system” in quotes because it is a direct quote. And “white” is probably in quotes to make that point that the stations aren’t white, since stations have no color, regardless of what ethnic group makes up the majority of listeners (but is that McCullough’s point, or Mr. Ethridge’s?). But why do the same with “earn” and “earnings”? Is there not any real earning going on, and it’s all just a big sham? Who is claiming this? Mr. Ethridge? The author? Also, there is no context or explanation at all for the numbers .92 and 1.27. They seem to have something to do with earnings, which might just be “earnings”, but beyond that it all gets rather fuzzy—whatever context the numbers might have had with earnings has been eradicated by the quotation marks, since now, for all we know, the supposed earnings are just a figment of someone’s imagination. Since McCullough is writing his article for general consumption, and not just for a radio trade journal, he ought to provide some reference for the uninitiated as to what exactly he’s on about here. On a side note, “stations who” should be “stations that” or “stations which”, since stations are not human beings.

Eloquence IV
Additionally, “to wit” (“To wit Mark Levin responded from midway back in the Theater…”) doesn’t mean, as he seems to think, “to make a witty remark”. It means “namely” or “that is to say”. Sorry, but I find the grammar mistakes distracting, and if I had written the article, I would be embarrassed to put my name on it. This isn’t a quick note or an email to a friend or family member who knows you; it is an attempt to inform and persuade the many strangers who read the article, and these mistakes reflect poorly on him and his thought process. I’m not trying to be a grammar Nazi here, but while the choir might be wowed by his preaching, skeptics generally like to read arguments that are presented in an intelligent fashion. Some of the people posting here might want to think about that—do you want this to be a site where you only have fire-breathing, liberal-bashing conservatives reading and chiming in with posts to say “I agree 100%!!!”, or do you want to actually convince others so that maybe they vote the way you do, and things like the Fairness Doctrine don’t make a comeback? If it’s the latter, then the way an argument is presented is important. When you write a sloppy article, like McCullough did, you invite people to dismiss you and your ideas as being unserious. You don’t read a Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell article that has this kind of third-rate English in it.

King Liberal
Why should anyone have to 'reach out' to a minority? Are you saying that all members of a minority move in lock-step and have the same qualities?

Why not join the Human Race.

I used to say "Life is a Rat Race" now I think
"Life is a Human Race" makes more sense.

If I tried hard enough, I could come up with a minority status of my own....Oooh...not hard at all. I am a Conservative that works in the Performing Arts (Believe me, THAT is a minority)

So, if I am a minority member, can I claim that all persons like myself think, act and vote alike?

I have friends of all races, sexual preferences, political persuasions and religions(or non-religions). None of them are alike, and I don't identify them by the above descriptors. When is the last time you introduced yourself or your friend by saying: "I'd like you to meet my Gay friend, XYZ?"

I have to agree with you. I have never listened to Rush so my comments are only on Hannity and since I don't listen to talk radio only on his tv show. I was a strong fan for several years but when he totally dissed Ron Paul's campaign I began to turn off on his whole approach. Paul's comments evidently didn't count as a conservative viewpoint when they got in the way of Hannity wanting to pander to his new found conservative idol Mitt Romney. Give me a break. What a fraud. If Mitt Romney is a conservative I am a Noble Laureate. His show is now comprised of almost unabated attacks on Obama with no balance or even sense of boredom for the constant rehashing of the same points. He breaks the repetitiveness with his own ego driven taking of credit for "outing" Reverend Write but that is it. And this bozo is #2 in cable opinion audience? God help us.

it always amazes me that americn blacks, who are approxmately 12% of the u.s. population want 50% or more control of anything they can think of. i would say that most intelligent black people, from condie rice to walter e williams must shake their heads in wonder about some of the things black americans think and do. of course most are a product of the effort to promote the nanny state in the u.s. too bad. it has never worked no matter where it has been tried.

You need to get some help for your hatred of Rush. Remember envy is a sin.

Dear King Liberal
Rush Limbaugh started with NOTHING and built an audience that brings him an a salary of more than 22 million dollars a year.

Please explain to me how he does this when he is so obviously more stuipid than you?

You've built an audience of how big?

And, Oh, by the way, Rush makes most of his money on Spec advertisment. (So does Shawn, and Medved etc.)

Whe you hear them mention the little Microphone in the corner of the Pro-Flowers website - that is so they get credit for the sale. In other words, they are paid for RESULTS! That is called EARNING their money.

Bet you haven't earned a thing in your life.

But then, you do espouse good socialist attitudes and have such good intentions, such as: STUPID = Not Liberal!

Choice
Racist radio, huh? It is so simple it shouldn't be a problem to comprehend. You turn the radio on when you want to hear something and you turn it off when you don't. Advertisers place their cash where there is likely to be a ROI. If the listening public doesn't want to hear the programs they turn them off and the station changes it's programming.

Maybe the panel doesn't want to hear the awful truth that they simply don't interest the listening public!

As with all liberals, government interference in the free market is only required when liberals can't get their way.

Lolo1
I heard Rush Limbaugh back around 1990 when he was not yet that famous. I can remember him mocking African-American callers who had distinct ways of pronouncing certain words (like "ask") and making every effort to gain right-wing fans by humiliating these callers.

I formed my opinion of him then. And it isn't envy, it's disgust.

Dear Prima Volta
You said,
"Monique
Who is trying to pass a law requiring you to like homosexuals?"

Darn near every liberal in office I have had experience with or seen on TV, or hear on the radio etc. etc.

Here is one example;
A sophomore at a San Diego high school did not agree with the view of homosexuality being promoted by his school and wore a T-shirt that said so -- silently. Yet he was suspended.

The front of his T-shirt said: "I will not accept what God has condemned" and the back said: "Homosexuality is shameful."

On what grounds was he suspended? The school's speech code bans statements that promote "hate" or "violence."

Unfortunaly there isn't enough space to provide all the examples I could provide to show you just "who" is trying to pass laws (or campus codes, or office rules etc. etc.) to force me to like homosexuals.

This panel in this article is as "FAIR" as liberals will ever get: 4:1. They must of course "speak" for the Black man (Conservatives have their own Black Conservatives who speak for themselves!), they must speak for Woman (Again, Conservative Women speak for themselves, One is Gay, or speaks for the Gays (Conservatives, AGAiN, have their own homosexual people who speak for themselves and lastly the 4th liberal speaks for the Children who cannot speak for themselves. Unless of course, they are homeschooled - then they are Conservatives and have more eloquence and pizzazz so can't enter sweepstakes.

If I say,

"Oh look, that Black man just robbed the bank."

"Oh my, that Black man just hit that woman on the head."

jd to King Liberal
"You've built an audience of how big?"

Building an audience of adorers is not a sign of intelligence or good motives. Have you ever watched charlatan faith healers and the crowds they can amass, the millions they make? Idi Amin, Adolph Hitler, Mugabe, all drew huge adoring audiences in their lifetimes.

It's about the gullible and willing adorers, not about the focus of their reverence.

Didn't know airwaves were a color
But if "black" radio stations want to make more money, here are some suggestions:

1) Hire DJs and talk show hosts that people like. If people don't listen in large enough numbers, replace them. I recommend hiring people who have a broad appeal, regardless of color. Black people are only 12% of the population, so it would be good to have personalities that everyone might like.

2) Hire good sales people to sell advertising. Open sponsorship up to all comers. If you restrict your sponsers to a limited demographic group, you limit your income.

3) Market the station to the public to maximize listenership.

4) Encourage your listeners to support the businesses of your sponsers, because if they are successful, they have more money to sponser your station.

JD
Seems to feel that building an audience and making alot of money is proof of good character, and value to society.

I live near a woman who has amassed a huge following - and a huge fortune - by claiming that she is the channel for a 4,000 year old wise man, whose wisdom she imparts to gullible admirers who come here from around the world and fork over huge amounts of cash just to listen to these words.

JD, it was interesting to read your standards for what make people valuable and smart.

first integrated US Army barracks

As for talk radio, listening to Rush is like talking to the mirror, so the only time I spend on talk-radio is listening to the Demo-rat Hate Machine, known as the Hate America Radio Network, as I take a walk in the afternoon. And as I grow older and those walks become shorter, so does the time on the “Know the Enemy” radio station.

I am a great believer in the “Sticks and Stones” way of life.

In the mid-1940s, I was a member of what was said to be the first integrated US Army barracks in Fort Benning, GA. I would say the Blacks were the ones who were most concerned with how it would work, the whites didn’t seem to care much.

It soon became obvious that the black “lingo” just naturally contained many slurs to the whites, and I don’t remember a slur by a white man in those first few days.

A couple of us called a meeting of the whole group, to discuss the matter. My point was that no one, of either race, should pay any attention to any comment made by either side of the color barrier.

Everyone agreed, and from that day on, language was no longer a problem. Sure there were things said that should not have been said, but since no one paid any attention to them, it didn’t matter.

What did matter was that within a few weeks the so-called slurs almost disappeared completely, because as some of us had expected, if we didn’t pay any attention, and no one made a big deal of what was said, those slurs would almost completely disappear from the conversation.

Several Black soldiers said that for the first time in their life, all those life-long comments they had used, just automatically disappeared.

Think fur yerself
So what if Rush Limbaugh made fun of people who say "axe" instead of "ask?"

Don't the Lefties make fun of George Bush for using an alternative pronunciation of "nuclear?"

Don't they make fun of Dan Quayle for misspelling "potato?"

Do you have a lower expectation for black people than you do for these two white men?

If so YOU are the racist, because we conservatives have the same expectations for both white and black.

Either that, or you have had your sense of humor surgically removed.

Jim
"I don’t remember a slur by a white man in those first few days."

You're just talking about the military culture, right?

I agree that, if the military people and ex-military people I talk to are to be believed (and I think they are) that the armed forces are the least racist institution in America.

A relative told a story just this weekend about watching a guy get sent home from the military because he told a commanding officer that he just couldn't get past his racism because of the way he was brought up.

America is still free.(For the moment)
Anyone can start a business.
There are no guarantees your business will be the among those to succede but you have the right to try in a free market.

People who purchase advertising are free to select whatever media they expect will have the largest audience with a need for their product.

Communists among us are trying to curtail those freedoms and dictate who can or cannot be in business.

AND;
Just as many Americans were surprised to learn our IRS considers them wealthy, even more of those who now support Communists would be shocked to discover THEY are Bourgeoise!

Why is Rush Limbaugh popular?
So is internet porn, pro wrestling, teen slasher movies. Legal, makes a lot of money, has lots of devotees. It's like drinking in the morning if you do it don't tell anyone. It reveals a fondness for trash culture that caters to the lowest common denominator.

Doc
Think_4_yourself is my upstairs computer.

Your post to me doesn't make any sense.

I was responding to JD's assertion that Limbaugh's value is measured by his ability to draw an audience and make alot of money. He used this to show King Liberal that he was the loser because he hadn't done what Limbaugh did.

So, by JD's standards (nd presumably, yours) Obama must be just as worthy as Limbaugh since he also draws large, adoring crowds.

think_4_yourself
You should change your moniker because that is pure baloney. I have been listening to Rush since day one in 1988 when he was in Sacramento.

Do you honestly think Snerdley, his right hand man, who is also black would be with him if he was a racist? GET REAL!

Your boy who cried wolf scenario is going to come back and bite you. Quit claiming racism where there is none because then true racism falls on deaf ears. People are rapidly becoming hardened to this false mantra.

"Another insane statement from a worldview that places its blame for lack of success outside its own control."

Pretty much sums up the right wing today.

1.) Education. Right wingers take no responsibility for the state of today's public education. They act like they haven't been present or accounted for and they are not responsible. "The only thing required for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -Edmond Burke. Then after you do nothing you get to blame everyone in the most holiest of sanctimonious ways and get to be the kind of pompous reserved for people who talk at the theater.

2.) Journalism. Yeah that bad, evil MSM. You poor right wingers can't take it when those bad liberal journalists pick on you. Boo hoo.

You all are such victims. One of the requirements of Democracy is a well educated public. But rather than fix public education you all will just privately education and privately fund, leaving the poor to rot. To, the right wing has become a bunch of victims that places blame for lack of success in education and MSM outside its own control and responsibility.

"Subject: Why is this not anti-Semitic?

Ann Coulter, ‘Jews Need to Be Perfected by Becoming Christians’

Do you think Ann Coulter comments were anti-Semitic?"

(1) Semites as an ethnic group include more than Jews.

(2) The Jews are the Chosen People with whom God made His first covenant.

(3) The prophecies were fulfilled and God came here to earth in the form of Jesus, offering a New Covenant open to both Jew and Greek (non-Jew) so that all might be grafted onto the Tree of Israel.

(4) As Christians (followers of Christ), we are far from perfect, but are in the process of being perfected in Him, though we won't ever attain sinlessness in this life.

(5) So yes, as perfection happens only in Christ, the Jews and all non-Christians need to become Christians in order to become perfected. We invite all (including you John, if you haven't accepted yet) to share in the Good News.

"And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all…Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy." - Hebrews 10:10, 13-14

The End Of Freedom
Its obvious that the era of Talk Radio is coming to an end. The libs cant win an argument even when the odds are five to one against a lone conservative. Their sniveling about unfairness is basically them saying that conservative shows getting 90% of the listeners is unfair. They think if they can just get Hannity, Limbaugh and Levin off the air that they will have 100% of the listeners. What they will have is NO listeners. The libs will 'clean up' talk radio and shut down the voices of conservatism, hoping that we will be dispirited and disunited as they impose socialist nirvana on our formerly free nation using the 'soft' coercion of byzantine regulation; written, enacted and enforced by unelected bureaucrats who answer to no one. "We always know what you Communists are doing by what you accuse Conservatives of."

One more story

One more Ft. Benning Story. And this did not happen with people from my integrated barracks.

Late one evening a bus load of soldiers were on our way to the Army Base. There were just a couple of empty seats, when a black solider got on the bus.

Rather than try to wake someone sitting in the back, he just sat at a seat in the middle of the bus.

The driver said he would not move the bus, until the Black man moved to the back. Yes that was Georgia in those days.

Finally a huge, NFL line-man sized solider got up and walked to the driver and said in the deepest southern drawl you could imagine, said, “Are you going to drive this thing, or am I?”

Off we went, the driver had learned something.

"learn demean is not synonymous with debate."

If you really believe that, then how is it you have listened to Limbaugh for 23,000 hours?

Atheist Provocateur scribbles:
A perfect example of the kind of right wing attitude that takes no responsibility, but would rather blather with all the pomp and hot air two cheeks can hold.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA No responsibility? That’s what the right wing is always preaching, and the left hates it. And if you’re speaking of hot gas, that's about all the left has.

Rich D.
"Rush is an entertainer "

Exactly. Just like faith healers, channelers, comedians, and the buskers who play their guitars downtown at the bus stops.

So, why is it that conservatives think that he is about "truth" and "common sense" and not just about raking in cash?

A lot of "axes" to grind
Has anyone here ever heard the phrase "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?" If Rush uses the word "axe" in his commentary, it means he likes the sound of the word and it is a good attention getter--a good thing for a talk-show host. I like to use the word "axe" sometimes as in, "Now I axe you" to get people to listen to my question. And it works! It is not intended to be racist and if I thought Rush was racist, I wouldn't listen to him. Some of you people need to learn how to have fun and playing around with words can be fun.Try it sometime.

Lolo1
Rush gets under your skin because you cannot counter him so you demean him and others."

This may shock you, but I would prefer solitary confinement to listening to 23,000 hours of Rush LImbaugh. I never listened again, after the program I described.

If I want to waste precious hours of my only life on earth, I can find thousands of more satisfying ways to do it.

disaterbabe
if you don't think rush is a political/cultural commentator than you don't know what rush is. and he is every bit as much as those who work for tv or magazines.

disasterousbabe
Since you brought up the subject of Truth with Rich D;
Can you explain why you "Liberals" have such an aversion for truth?

Why are Liberals compelled to lie even when truth is in your corner?
Like with Bush;
He tried to pull off that Amnesty scam on America.
He went against the 2nd Amendment in a matter before the Supreme Court.
He promoted a gigantic S to N highway the Greens & Animal Rights activists should have demonstrated against.
He allows Mexican trucks & drivers on American highways to take work from our own Drivers & Trucking Companies.
He allows 12 Hamas terror cells to exist within our borders.
He UNLAWFULLY signed a treaty with Canada for Canadian Troops to be used inside American Borders.
It requires a 2/3rd approval from our Senate to sign that treaty. THERE WAS NO VOTE ON IT!
American Troops are limited by law in what they can do to the American population. Canadian troops are not!

With all this truth & more, Liberals keep parroting stale irrelevant lies about Bush.
Is there some Liberal rule against using the truth? Is it mandatory for Liberals to lie?

Don't have time--
We usually don't have the time to listen to any talk radio. But we do listen to Lou Dobbs when we can, if not, we tape his show and watch it later. We think that he tells it like it really is. Especially with illegal immigration and the failures of our elected officials in many areas. No excuses.

Before anyone hits me on being hard on "illegals", just remember the definition of the word. And I agree, Free Ramos and Compean.

Gayle
" If Rush uses the word "axe" in his commentary, it means he likes the sound of the word and it is a good attention getter-"

That's not what I said and that's not what happened. A listener with an African-American patois (speaking style) said, "I called because I wanted to ask (axe) you a question."

Limbaugh replied, "Yes, what did you want to axe me. Did you want to axe me about the weather, did you want to axe me about politics, go ahead and axe."

The caller hung up, to his credit. I never listened to Limbaugh again, but I have read about his occasional controversies, like the time he made fun of AIDS patients (in the pre-cocktail days) and once on TV when he made a joke about the drowning of Mary Jo Kopechne. I wondered if her parents were watching, it was a popular TV show.

The joke: Limbaugh was handed a pitcher of water, drank some, and gurgled it. "Name that sound", he said. The answer: the last sounds that Ted Kennedy heard at Chappaquidick."

I would suppose that you all find that really, really, funny, so you don't need to tell me I have no sense of humor. I just hope the Kopechnes did when they heard it.

Truthseeker
"if you don't think rush is a political/cultural commentator than you don't know what rush is. "

Limbaugh is an entertainer who makes gazillions of dollars telling his conservative audience what they want to hear. He understands that there is a deep well of anger and resentment in conservative America and he knows how to tap into it. He also understands that if his comments become thoughtful, objective, or challenging, conservatives will stop listening.

For this, advertisers pay him lots of money so that you will listen to their spiels as well.

"Its called capitalism-everything is for sale".

What do you charge for yourself?

Savage99 OFF TOPIC
A MATTER OF SAFETY

I don't think it safe to reload Boxer Primers.
Metal fatigue in that one small area would greatly enhance the danger of pierced primers.
To remove the anvil, clean the cup and swage the dent out would be more time consuming than making new cups.
The proper tooling for a bullet swage can make new primer cups.
Would advise a swage for cutting, 1st draw and final draw. Sort of like a production line.

Priming composition is easy to make but dangerous for a novice except in minute quantity.
A thimble full of priming compound would tear both of a man's hands off if it detonated.
All it takes is to disturb a tiny speck of dried compound on the edge of a mixing container or tool.

Take note #17 has already been accomplished! Our schools are now dumbed down indoctrination centers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda.
Soften the curriculum. Get control of teacher's associations. Put party line in textbooks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The knowledge of the people is what makes a society what it is.
Detracting from that knowledge damages our entire society by making us less affluent.

People are what they know. Each thing you learn becomes a part of you and makes you proportionately more than you were before. Your possibilities in life are expanded by what you learn and limited by what you do not know.
The purpose of Communist Goal #17 is to cheat every person in our society of the opportunity to learn, thereby depriving you and your children of an opportunity you otherwise would have to become all you could have been if given an honest education.
The lifestyle of each American has been worsened to some extent by the Communists among us.

Fairness Doctrine?
The liberals are all up set because the conservatives have talk radio. They had Air America they even bought their own time and still couldn't get a listening audience. The main media, print and TV have been proven to be way to the left. Fox news came along I think 10 years ago and finally giving them a run for their money. The secret to a successful radio or TV show, people have to want to listen and watch it. That is how they sell air time, the more listerners they have the more money they can sell their ads for. There is ABC,CBS,NBC,MSMBC,CNN and Public Radio, now the poor liberals are complaining it's not fair. Seven to one seems pretty lop sided to me.I have been studying and doing research on Big Al's global warming. When I finally wrote 4 articles, the local papers didn't want to run them, of course they all believe the hype, and my articles tried to get information to people that was the other side of the story. I live in Kansas home of the Bison, great plains and the golden wheat, we are now also known for Tiller the Baby Killer, and of course Big Al's GW, thanks to our Governor, who is looking for a spot in the new admistration. Which I am sure she believes will be Obama. The left are only interested in running our lives, everyaspect of our lives, and GW is the door they are using. Anyone who actually thinks that we small mortals, can actually control the weather are destine to believe GB. I believe Big Al's GB is just a money making scheme and the public had better wake up.

I'm branching out
After (temporarily) exhausting Obama as a subject, New Parody is for McCain. Enjoy. My blog. Leave a comment! Thanks.

Doc
OK, you responded to my posts by basically saying not to post any more about McCullough’s abysmal command of written English. You say you understood McCullough’s points, and that is enough. I disagree. Firstly, how do you know you understood his points at all? My comments dealt with the fact that, although I agree with the general principle McCullough was making about free market radio, his individual points were so obscured by his poor writing that it often isn’t clear exactly what he is trying to say. Secondly, you seem to be a member of the choir, as it were. So McCullough didn’t need to convince you of the validity of his arguments, because you probably agreed to begin with. My main point was that the way one presents an argument influences how it is received. Do people want this site just to be an “amen, brother!” site, or should we try to win new converts? Winning new converts requires at least the minimal effort of not making our arguments look weaker than they are through poor presentation. McCullough has poor presentation skills, and unlike you (which is why I'm not pointing out any grammar mistakes you might make), he is a professional communicator, which means a higher standard is called for. I really don’t care if my car mechanic can describe how to fix my car in flawless standard English; I already know and trust his ability as a mechanic. McCullough is trying to inform and persuade a public that doesn't know him except through his writing, and he needs, at the very least, to be able to write correctly to do so.

I see that others here are posting about Rush’s mocking/joking use of “axe” in place of “ask”. Why, if you believe that proper grammar isn’t necessary as long as you think you understood the person speaking, aren’t you posting that Rush was wrong to point out the difference, and that Mountain Rose and Rich D. should stop posting, since everyone clearly understood the intent of the speaker who said “axe” instead of “ask”?

To All You Liberal Clowns Out There
To all you liberal clowns out there: (Successful) radio is all about market share. Perhaps you liberals would like to comment on:

1. Air America.....Need I say more?
2. NPR - which can ONLY exist via government subsidy; i.e. MY taxes.

End of discussion…..end of argument.

Zinnen
Hurray! I agree with your well-presented points.

All my friends here, take the note. It is in our best interests to be objective and fair when it comes to articles on TH. Just because they may express an opinion we agree with, doesn't mean they get a pass for poorly written arguments.

I really did think it was a poorly written article, and said so early in this thread.

Perhaps McCullough is a product of our public schools.

Zinnin
Tell us quickly and we will get you some help!
Who forced you to come to TH and read this arcicle?
Are they holding a knife at your throat to make you stay?
We will inform Amnesty International immediately!

MyOpine
Lay off Zinnen. The post was well done, and, IMHO accurate.

Hopefully, McCullough will see the notes and make some adjustments so that his next article is better.

I consider myself to be a fair writer, and I made it through Undergraduate and 52 hours of Masters Prep with honors, so I think I can identify when an article is poorly written.

He has a good subject, but, I agree with Zinnen, it is a little muddy.

Zinnen
It occurs to me that this article is a bit like an Obama speech.

The audience knows what they think he said, so that is what they hear. The two things don't necessarily go hand-in-hand.

My Opine
"Are you with the enemy collaborators at CodePink?"

fellow-travelers? Sophie, is that YOU?

Mrs. Paddy
At the foot of the article is a place to cast your vote.
(Take note the majority voted approval.)
At the top of the article is a thread to e-mail complaints directly to the Author.
I do not wish to offend you OR Zinnin but we do have proper venue for such complaints.

There is no need to keep redundantly complaining on the thread.

MyOpine, Mrs. Paddy
MyOpine wrote: “Who forced you to come to TH and read this arcicle?”
See, this is where I could be snotty and say, “I don’t think anyone forced me to read an ‘arcicle’. I don’t know what an ‘arcicle’ is. Please tell me.” But I’m pretty sure you meant ‘article’, and so I won’t mention it.

Mrs. Paddy wrote: “It occurs to me that this article is a bit like an Obama speech.
The audience knows what they think he said, so that is what they hear. The two things don't necessarily go hand-in-hand.”

Thank you, I wish I had said that. MyOpine (and anyone else who perhaps misunderstood my intent), that was my main (really my only) point. At several places in the article, things are very unclear. If I were to show the article to a skeptical friend, or quote parts of it to him, I wouldn’t be able to answer lots of questions that would probably arise quite naturally from a discussion about the article’s content, because of how the author wrote it makes it very unclear. The overuse of quotation marks means that I don’t know if the word enclosed in them is being directly quoted, or is so enclosed to show that it is not really a “so-and-so”, but only an alleged “so-and-so”. As I posted earlier, why are “buy” and “earn” written in this way? Were things not really bought? Not really earned? If not, whose opinion is this? That of the author, or that of the person he is writing about in that paragraph? Numbers appear without any reference to what they represent. This limits the article’s usefulness, IMHO.

I read TH almost daily, but seldom post. I just like to see articles that contain well-organized information presented in a clear manner. Those kinds of articles are most helpful when discussing the relevant subject with others, particularly if they don’t agree with me at first. That’s all I’m trying to say here.

My Opine
I think one of my posts to you was dropped, so I'll try to remember it -

The fact is, M.O., I adore you, you brighten my day and I love it that you find me dangerous. I hope you never stop posting on TH.

BTW, how do you put an accent mark over the e in cliche?

Bye,

Disasteryllitch Babekova.

MyOpine
I don't wish to offend you either. I am happy to be among the minority that thought the article was poorly written.

Why is it so terrible to present a criticism of an author on TH? It would be difficult to find anyone more Conservative than me, but that doesn't mean I have to accept mediocrity from those who are Paid to write.

The votes might express approval of what the topic of the article was all about, I don't know, as I rarely make an evaluation on articles here.

I think Zinnen made a very valid point. It does 'our side' no favors to turn a blind eye to articles that fail to present a cogent argument.

Not trying to beat a dead horse, but he wasn't attacking the messenger, just pointing out that he could have been clearer.

Zinnin
Since you are a fellow Conservative I am glad you did not choose to make an issue of "arcicle".
Sometimes when I am really torqued at some Troll I will deliberately make a typo just for bait.

I understand your point.
I do not disagree with your point.
HOWEVER you have way overdone your point!

MyOpine
Thanks for visiting my blog. Not sure who made you promise not to take shots at McCain, but you need not worry about political correctness on my blog. :-)

Mrs. Paddy
My bad, I always took TH to be a political sort of paper where one can pick up info that you will never see pointed out on MSM. I really don't care if they can write well, I am after info and posters here who can help me glean even more info. You know your self that the bad writing, grammar, name calling, whatever, is usually the first thing the libs start jumping on.
But also, please note I am a happy Bible and gun toting person, not an obambi disciple. And in fact I have made my own decisions in life, since 17 y/o when I left home for the last time and joined the service.
Zinnen, if that was not your intentions, my apologies. But as I said, that is how most of the libs that come here just to argue, start out just badmouthing the author. I am sure you have seen some of them.

Dear Atheist Provocateur
There is a reason that the Right will not take any credit for the deterioration of the Education "System" (read that indoctrination) in America.

Because the Right OPPOSED every one of the changes that led us to this point. I'm talking about removing Discipline from the schools, removing learning by rote, removing phonyx (spelling?) and removing the teaching of the ACTUAL history of America.

What are we supposed to do?

Air America tanked
so people don't want to listen to *lib. radio.* In the process, it bought out SOME minority stations and restaffed them with white libs.

In the end, Air Radio stiffed its employees by not deducting Soc. Sec., Medicare, and taxes. Now there's true liberalism today: lies to you and then steals from you.

Years ago during the payola scandals of 1956, a radio dj, maybe it was Allen Freed, said a bad record cannot be made into hit no matter how often it's played, and a good record can't be killed with a stick.

Libs. want *fairness* and *change,* but it never dawns on them that people don't want what they are pedaling in a relatively, not political, free market. *Recount,* a travesty by HBO, on how Reps. stole the 2000 election was only viewed by a million people (which is prob. zero on the ratings scale), and *Dirt,* a truly inane show FX has been flogging to death, started at 2 million on Courtney Cox' name and is now dead last always in ratings, because it's no good.

There is minority radio sponsored by minorities themselves and their sponsors. A few were killed by libs. promoting Air Am., which was supposed to drive Rush and Hannity into the hinterlands. Rush gets something like 20 million listeners daily, and to put that into perspective, when *Everyone Loves Raymond* was tv's MOST POPULAR show, it drew c. 20 million, once a week.

renny
Dittos. Can't argue with success.

Ratings
Ratings do matter. The columnist probably meant to write "rained" instead of "reigned." The poster probably meant to write "heart's" and not "hearts." But those are picky criticisms.
Walter Williams surely is on for Rush Limbaugh. I believe Rush's screener is black so he does accept black people. Of course, the "professional blacks" will say that he is an Uncle Tom or a traitor.

Seems posts have gotten a
little off track - I would like to add my 2 cents worth re: racist talk radio.

After listening to the various pastors at BHO's church, I've come to the conclusion that our entire country is racist - however, the racism comes from the black community, not the white!

I have been puzzled for so long as to why so many blacks don't want to step up to the plate and accept the challenges that are out there for ALL! However, instead of "going for it" they sit at home feeling like victims.

These so-called men of faith have enlightened me and I see now that they wouldn't have a job if they offered encouragement to succeed rather than pointing out how tough it is being a victim. I have come to the belief that they do NOT want BHO to win the election - they'd be proven wrong...and would lose their jobs!

What is....
...keeping the GOP 'divided', king liberal, is NOT Rush Limbaugh.
PAY ATTENTION! Both you and the GOP.
Then you'd BOTH finally understand the problem for the Republicans party lies not in divisiveness, but in not adhering to what we tell them to do when they are elected! (That IS the reason you elect representative government, isn'it?)

As far a Webb is concerned, there has to be a good reason he was fired by Reagan.
Good enough for me, whatever the reason.

too bad disasterbabe
you weren't taught how to use your brain. just mush in there. just like the rest of you demonrats.... rush is the answer to the lies by co-mission and omission of left wing media.

I know what My Opine is now!
I"m from Calif. and the John Birch Society always made a living attacking the United Nations as some monolith intent on taking control ot the USA. When in fact it is just a collection of over 100 countries that has no power and is always screwed up bickering among themselves. The signs "Get us out of the UN" lined the freeways in Los Angeles and outskirts. My Opine is just some dumb old fart who still talks like that.Commie this etc. How Funny!!

King Liberal
"As from What I have seen forcing conservative to talk openly about race will be good"

Yes it will. I love to see cons talk about race and mention the myth of "reverse racism" in America. I just enjoy it. It makes great fodder.

"Republicans have long forgetten how to reach out to minorities."

Very true. They better learn or their party is finished.

"Martin Luther King was a republican"

Actually, that is false.

"...and many blacks believe in the death penalty"

Fale. A majority of 56% of African Americans DO NOT support the death penalty, including this poster. This is accordng to Gallup Poll News Service, July 31, 2007.

"...today anit-abortion policies,"

Well, a slim majority of African Americans are against abortion in most circumstances. I'm in the minority once again. LOL!

"..and to some degree the 2nd amendment."

Nope. However, this is more of a rural vs. urban divide than racial. As someone living in an urban setting, more guns are not a goodidea. Keep the DC Handgun Ban!!

"And yet the GOP has become a lilly white country club party unable to connect with the middle class let alone minorities."

Very true and not likely to change.

Kevin,

Not a very well written article to say the least. It's ironic because we had a similar run in on your blog about this very subject:

http://kevinmccullough.townhall.com/blog/g/b5b63e89-4ddc-44 a5-9d0d-e91cd4a5a710&comments=true#commentAnchor

Your problem is that you think African American institutions like HBCUs, the Divine 9, The Links or the Boule, etc are some excluding whites. They obviously are not. Same goes for talk radio.

PS: How can you expect someone to take yor arguement seriously when you laud "Rev" Jesse Lee Peterson!!! LMAO!

MyOpine
Absolutely. Re-priming is dangerous in all the ways you so clearly describe. It would be an emergency procedure, useful only in direst circumstance. My co-worker who was in the Philipine resistance talked about makeshift bullets and poweder, but not about primers. Its possible they rrecovered primers from other ammo--itself a very nasty procedure. I can not imagine i would ever be in such a circumstance. If the ammo i have laying around would not suffice for any situation in which i find myself, i fear fabricating more would be theleast of my worries.

Ellison
Can you step aside from your obvious bias and see the REAL problem?
Try!

Can you name ONE of the Leftist placebos that address the REAL problem?

Cape Conservative
"After listening to the various pastors at BHO's church"
I'm sure you have. Listening to 3 miutes of footage from YouTube sure does give an accurate portrayal of someone doesn't it?

"I've come to the conclusion that our entire country is racist - however, the racism comes from the black community, not the white!"

That's rather impossible, being that racism is structured into political and social institutions. It occurs when institutions, including corporations, governments and universities, discriminate either deliberately or indirectly, against certain groups of people to limit their rights. Racism reflects the cultural assumptions of the dominant group, so that the practices of that group are seen as the norm to which other cultural practices should conform. So African Americans are guilty of this?

"I have been puzzled for so long as to why so many blacks don't want to step up to the plate and accept the challenges that are out there for ALL!"

Really? Exactly who are you talking about?

"However, instead of "going for it" they sit at home feeling like victims."

Funny how you think your narrow minded stereotypes can somehow pass as fact. Sorry bud, they don't.

"These so-called men of faith have enlightened me and I see now that they wouldn't have a job if they offered encouragement to succeed rather than pointing out how tough it is being a victim."

Really? So those 3 minutes really gave you all te info didn't it?

"I have come to the belief that they do NOT want BHO to win the election - they'd be proven wrong...and would lose their jobs!"

So your expert opinion leads you to that conclusion. Also, does the election of Barack Obama somehow compensate for 400 years of oppression, slavery, and inhumanity?

Ralph Ellison When are
you going to stop this African-American Bullsh88?
You are either an American with all the rights guaranteed under the Constitution or you an illegal Alien with loyal ties to Africa. Most of the Americans who happen to be black have no concept what life in Africa is really like. This hyphenated name nonsense is wearing thin. Please think about it.

Savage99
It takes heavy machinery to manufacture brass cases.
Everything else can be manufactured in your garage to higher quality than you can purchase.

CapeConservative
You could be correct, but it really doesn't matter. Facts are not these demagogues stock in trade. They deal in emotional charges which appeal almost entirely to losers which do not want to accept responsibility for their losses. A black president will make no more difference to these people than Jackie Robinson breaking the color line in baseball. There will always be something to complain about. Its not a problem unique to black folks. Huey Long did ok with that kind of stuff for a long time.

MyOpine
Oh look!!! My poster buddy who believes that the corpse of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin is leading the Democratic Party, with the DSA and the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) as his 21st Century Cheka!!! LMAO!!!

Now to your current query: I am a liberal on a cons website. I'm not in a comfort zone where my beliefs are never challenged. I understand that you prefer to be in a safe cocoon surrounded by your intellectual piers. How cute! So save the "personal bias" spiel for someone whose willing to listen. Better yet, why not follow your own advice!!!

Finally, what is the "real problem"? This column presenting no "problem" except for a slow, dry read on a non issue that I've already hashed over with the author in December.

MyOpine
I swear i was not trying to trap Disasterbabe with my question. She made a statement implying there were no absolute values, a heavy subject. When i saw her answer, Your "degree" reply occurred to me, but you got there way first.

If i had to hit the hustings with a firearm, i would probably go with my SKS paratroop model. I have more expensive, more powerful, more accurate stuff, but the SKS is the best compromise for me. I have more ammo than i could carry.

I have tinkered with the idea of a swaging setup. Bullet making for sidearms in these days of armored vests offers some interesting possibilities, but when push comes to shove its not really an area i'd want to explore. The cops are still the good guys and they are the ones wearing the vests. I have a friend who bought some of those cookie cutter rounds before they were taken off the market due to their unexpected efficiency against vests.

Willi Beax
"you going to stop this African-American Bullsh88?"

When Maryland elects Michael Steele as its next governor, with Alan Keyes as his Lt. Governor!! LMAO!!

"You are either an American with all the rights guaranteed under the Constitution or you an illegal Alien with loyal ties to Africa."

Being that my family has roots in this nation stretching back to 1801, I am a American. Not illegal. Actually, I have been to South Africa and actually enjoyed it. Funny thing is I'm the first generation in my family to actually enjoy all those rights you stated from the moment of my birth. Think about that.

"Most of the Americans who happen to be black have no concept what life in Africa is really like."

As do Americans who happen to be white have no idea what it is to live in Europe.

"This hyphenated name nonsense is wearing thin."

Exactly why do you care? Also, do I not have a right to define who I am? Do I not have the right to embrace my heritage? Do I not have the right to the continent of my ancestors? According to you, I don't. However, this ain't a plantation and you are most certainly not my master. Check yourself before coming at me like that. Think about that.

"Please think about it."

Why? What do I owe you?

BTW, do you call Asian Americans "yellow Americans"? Do you call Native Americans "red Americans"? Do you call Latino Americans "olive Americans"?

Willi Beax
I don't think it is possible to reason with Ellison.
He is so withdrawn into his own self pity he thinks Americans owe him something because black people who may or may not be related to him were enslaved in the distant past.

He is ignorant of the fact that all races of people have been enslaved in the past.
The name Czechoslovakia translated to English means "Land of Slaves".

The black race in America & Europe is the only race to have another race fight for their freedom.
Every other enslaved race has had to face armies themselves and fight for their own freedom.

Slavery still exists yet we do not hear a word of condemnation from any of the black racist profiteers here in America.

There is a good reason most black people in America will remain in poverty and the problem will remain until the real reason is addressed.

MyOpine
"I don't think it is possible to reason with Ellison."

Talk about the pot calling the kettle!!!

"He is so withdrawn into his own self pity"

Really? I wonder how I wake up in the morning!! Must be the Jack Daniels!!

"..he thinks Americans owe him something"

Which Americans? Politicians do. I pay their salary.

"...because black people who may or may not be related to him were enslaved in the distant past."

So you know my history do you? Why don't you present my family tree since you know all the answers. You seem to be forgetting my great great grandmother Elizabeth Keitt who was born a slave and was raped by her half brother. How about her father Alexander, who was born a slave?

"He is ignorant of the fact that all races of people have been enslaved in the past."

When did I ever say that?

"The name Czechoslovakia translated to English means "Land of Slaves".

Actually it means "land of the Czechs and Slovaks", from the two main Slavic ethnic groups in the country, with "Slovak" deriving from the Slavic for "Slavs"; and "Czech" ultimately of unknown origin.

MyOpine pt.2
"The black race in America & Europe is the only race to have another race fight for their freedom."

Actually no. Ever heard of the Jews during the Holocaust? Who fought for their freedom? Also, are you implying that African Americans never fought for their freedom? LMAO!

"Slavery still exists yet we do not hear a word of condemnation from any of the black racist profiteers here in America."

As you don't hear any white racist profiteer speak a word about Darfur or human traffiking around the world.

"There is a good reason most black people in America will remain in poverty"

Actaully most African Americans live above the poverty line. Only 700,000 out of 38 million African Americans receive public assistance.

"and the problem will remain until the real reason is addressed"

What is the reason genius? Let me guess, the homosexual corpse of Lenin and the CPC are at the root right?

Well
Nite.

The best post for this article.

Ralph Ellison
A rather bulky rant of half truth to end in an insult.

For me to state the real problem is more bother than I want to go to for an arrogant buffoon who makes snide remarks about a real problem.

You have no interest in helping black people anyway.
All you want to do is whimper and beg for handouts.
NO handout will make black people equal.
NO employment quotas will make black people equal.
NO lowering of standards will make black people equal.
NO amount of Affirmative Action will make black people equal.

You think you are so smart? WHAT IS MISSING?
WHY are the majority of black people unable to merge into main society?
WHAT is holding them back?

Yes I know the problem you are too apathetic to look for!
I only have part of the solution.
Bryce prompted me to search for the problem.
I found it. And thought of a solution.
Implementation would be costly but a temporary expense.

I set it up for Bryce on two macro keys.
I was going to give it to you instead before you became so insulting.
I will save it for Bryce.
I gave you enough clues if you are as smart as you think you are, THINK THEN!

Ralph Ellison
Going back up the thread I found your post to me where you confess to being a Communist scumbag.
That is what your use of Comminist cliché tells me.

I see you are also overly interested in homosexual corpses?
So you are a gay into necrophilia?

What About Spanish Language Stations?
What kind of revenues do Spanish language stations earn? They have some pretty big audiences. I suspect they do okay because they have an audience yet their listeners are probably poorer than a general English speaking audience? These black stations want nothing more than socialism when they can't attract an audience in the free market of radio.

RD: "Rush is an entertainer "

DB: "So, why is it that conservatives think that he is about "truth" and "common sense" and not just about raking in cash?"

Why is it the liberals can't understand that it is possible to do political commentary in an entertaining way? If they thought he was nothing more than an entertainer in it for cash, they would not be so jealous and worried about countering him, even though they already control most of the MSM.
