What would you rather watch?

Spending $60, $70, even $90 for a fill up at the gas station is fun right? When it comes to crippling, racist, and economically debilitating energy policy liberals have truly paralyzed America. And they seem proud of their efforts. In the left's refusal to allow us to seek new energy sources they are stunting a nation's economy, they are hurting the average family, and they are starving hungry children.

They also have the gall to do all of this under the guise of feigned outrage at oil companies in addition to self-superior Senate floor speeches where they rage against the administration. They also express abject resentment towards anyone who dares to mention the obvious - that it is their policies that put us in this mess to begin with and disallows our escape from it.

If you want a mere glimpse of their hypocrisy revisit Gore v. Bush. I'm not referring to the court case, but their living arrangements. Bush lives in a solar powered home designed for maximum conservation impact in his Crawford ranch. Al Gore's home has not been converted to solar power, and only a year ago was exposed for having toxic waste on his property that was actually polluting the local water supplies. But this simple comparison barely scratches the surface as to the left's energy scam.

The real pinch that you feel at the pump exists for multiple reasons. Nearly all of them the fault of liberals.

Repeatedly they criticize the administration for having to work with Middle Eastern nations that sell us oil, they mock us for having to beg Saudi princes to increase production, yet they refuse to do the things that would cause the Saudi's and other members of OPEC to lower prices naturally.

This last week the nation of Brazil discovered enough oil sitting only 130 miles off their coast to give them the equivalent of nineteen years worth of oil by their current usage standards. That's nineteen years that they don't have to purchase oil from anywhere else.

Presently in territories under US control we have oil reserves that could eclipse that number by possibly 20 to 30 times. We have the technology to go get it with almost zero impact to the surrounding environment. And in some places where we could go harvest it from - like the Alaskan wilderness, we would need less than 2% of the total territory to give us domestic oil production that would rival the output of what we purchase abroad and thus cause those suppliers to drop their prices. Off the shores of California, Florida, and other oceanside states further exploration could be had with no cost to the taxpayer and any reserves we would find would belong to the U.S. and thus allow us to control our own energy future. But liberals in Washington, the lobbyists who pay them well, and the far left environmentalist groups who are manipulating the public discussion would rather you not be able to pay your bills or even drive your car - than to give in and allow any expanded exploration to occur.

But finding the reserves is only part of the problem. Once the oil is in hand it must be refined, and since "crazy greenies" have prevented the construction of one single additional refinery in nearly a generation, the supply chain is unable to be processed and delivered effectively to help the prices stabilize at the pump. Additionally elected liberals like Chicago's Mayor Richard Daley, Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, and U.S. Senator Richard Durbin have worked in concert to see to it that Chicago area drivers now pay a 20% tax on every gallon of gas sold.

The Global Warming scare mongers have played their part as well. Now that more than 31,000 scientists have disputed nearly all of even the most basic claims made in Al Gore's hysterical work of fiction, "An Inconvenient Truth," we are starting to see up close the damage Gore's self-enriching scam has produced. His insistence upon alternative fuels, has created horrific realities which are making the development of fuel far more expensive, and starving orphans on the African continent simultaneously. He's also made tons of personal riches from his "carbon credits" company that has yet to prove how it is regenerating the climate.

When we realize that the amount of corn for example that has to be set aside for the minimum production of ethanol, and how that corn is no longer for food supplies there should exist outrage. When we discover the tons of corn required to make one tank of fuel, yet realize the same amount of corn could feed an African orphan who is presently dying of starvation for a full year that outrage should create a quake for justice that liberals can not escape.

And we haven't even begun to address the entire idea of nuclear energy expansion that could go across the continent heating, lighting, and keeping our homes safe at far lower costs. In places like Africa nuclear power would move villages that are barely surviving into healthy new conditions. Simply replacing the dung that some mothers are forced to cook with would guarantee a drop in the child mortality rate across much of the sub-Saharan portion of the continent. Yet for all of Barack Obama's insistence upon giving a condom to every person in Africa he seems utterly unmoved by the plight of children breathing the smoke of bovine excrement.

Some proponents of energy exploration have argued that we are running out of oil reserves. Yet any one who uses common sense wonders how that is so. Oil reserves are developed by the death and compression of carbon life-forms over the years. Forests, wildlife, marine life, and humans have not stopped dying - nor are they expected to anytime soon. Harvesting living energy supplies - like food - seems to be counter productive than harvesting energy supplies that in fact have already been "processed" naturally for our use. With our more advanced exploration capabilities we are also discovering that we are far - if it's even possible to be - from "running out of oil."

So what does it all mean?

Liberals have put into place legislation that restricts our ability to supply our energy needs for ourselves. They have prevented us from being able to refine the energy supply we obtain. They have prevented us from creating the most cost effective energy supply ever discovered (nuclear). And they appear more than happy to continue to tax the living daylights out of us on the energy we have to have in order to survive.

In short it is using dishonest messages to tax us more, taking the capital we earn for our families, to create a greater dependency on "them" to "solve our problems" for us. Can anyone say "backdoor Marxism?" Do you like your $5 per gallon gas?

Just do nothing... because letting the marxist left run our energy policy seems to be working out well for all of us!

Isn't it?

The Way Out
If refiners aregiven exemptions to anti-trust, they can sign 30-35 year contracts will established and potential domestic/contiguous state producers. So long as average daily minimums are met, these producers will be guaranteed $80-$90 a barrel for any and all crude oil and/or similar refineable substances.

This is enough to apply advanced extraction techniques, liquify coal, get at shale oil, manufacture crude from waste, bulldoze opposition to drilling in various and sundry spots and so forth and so on.

While the immediate effect will be to lower 40% of our oil 25%, the price will remain high enough to inspire conservation. In short, we will have increased supply and be using it wisely.

Vote Democrats Out!!
Why anyone who fills up their gas tank would vote for a democrat is beyond my comprehension!! We need to fight for our rights.

Sam and Robert
I am suprised Sam and Robert can write; they obviously can't read, as the article stated the reasons for the inflation at the pump (and quite well, I might add). Of course, if you can't read the truth (and it is out there if you look for it), you'll probably watch (and believe) the networks and CNN when they bash capitalism and the evil corporations that Bush and the Republicans "favor". Why don't you social democrats move to Cuba, the Utopia, where the government runs everything? Don't forget to take your 1950's era vehicle down there, so you'll fit in! Leave this country to me and others like me who want nothing from the government beyond what the Constitution dictates.

vote 'em all out
What is in the water in DC which causes elected and non-elected officials, to always manage to give it to the rest of us in the shorts?

Whenever faced with a choice between taking the right, decent and common sense action, or the idiotic, touchy feely, knee jerk lunacy - they go for stupid every single time. Never once considering the unintended consequences and never, ever reversing themselves when it's obvious to all that they've screwed up again. Hard to imagine how so many inbred retards can keep getting voted in.

It's so apparent they aren't there to serve us. but to force us into servitude to them. Those who hear, but don't listen; see, but don't believe will be scratching their sore testicles from riding a bicycle when gas goes to $12 a gal.

Except Robert. He's already scratching his and thinking that's what makes him so "brillyunt!"

If you like $10 a gallon gas prices,
then just go trolling around brainlessly bashing Bush the way these DUmmies "Sam" and "Robert" are doing. Then you'll get to see their beloved DUmbocrats raise our taxes to European levels. Oh yeah, did you know they're already paying the equivalent of up to $9 a gallon for gasoline in Europe? Yeah, Sam, we sure are proud to be Americans--because we're hard-working taxpayers and not lazy parasitic yobs on the dole like you.

Vote Democrats Out
Vote Democrats out sounds good to me. I cannot imagine anyone of sound mind and body voting for any Democrats or Liberals today.
McCullough's article is right. The Democratic-environment-nutjobs energy policies are close to destroying America. And for those of us who served and for all who have served this country it is time to remember what this Memorial Day truly represents, what we fought for, an American way of life that the Democrats are tearing down.

Bush and his gang...
are mostly to blame for the high oil. The dollar is the problem, not oil. The value of the dollar is lower because the expense of government is much higher. We don't get war and prescription drugs and stimulus packages and farm bills and bank bail outs, and on and on, for nothing.

Crackpot forgot a couple things
1. The federal reserve seriously inflated the currency during the late-90s/early-2000s. This has devalued the dollar so much that it's not that oil is more expensive, but the dollar is simply worthless. And the fed did this to not only feed the Imperial Government of the US, but to stimulate the housing bubble.

2. It takes time for any new refinery to be built, plus the time to drill and such. While it will help in the long term, the short term won't be helped.

hmmm rick and robert.
so the devalued dollar is the reason our gas is so high?

PRAY TELL,,, why is the gas in EUROPE $9 a gallon?

If you come up with anything other than LIBTARD policies then you have not found the answer.

Democrats won't be happy until our gas here is $9 a gallon AND they can blame it on anything other than thier policies.

They have got a good start on getting the prices there,,, but still have a ways to go.

Is Anyone Really Swayed by this Fantasy?
Even by the standards of purple-prosed, muckraking columns, this one deserves a special prize. "Liberals" -- who are presumed to be all of a stripe, with no internal distinctions -- have somehow, in just the last year or two, achieved such power and influence that they alone are responsible for the huge gas price spike. Monkeys might also fly out of my rear end. Might it have just a teense to do with the war, y'think?

The only people spending $90 at the pump are those with mammoth SUVs. Guess who tends to own those? Answer: not environmentalists.

What on earth does Obama's stance on HIV prevention have to do with his proposed energy policy? Focus. Learn to make rational arguments. There are rules for this; Google them.

And what on EARTH are you taking about with these thousands of (fictitious) "scientists" who contest global warming? I'm sorry, but that is just exceptionally stupid, or even more disingenous. Perhaps you like to have readers to enjoy being lied to.

And, if you're going to be a columnist, please learn to master basics of the English language, like the difference between "that" and "which". Jeez.

Learn economics, scooter
I suggest starting by reading _What Has Government Done To Our Money_ by Murray Rothbard.

oil
prices are determined by supply and demand plus risk...

speculators have bet that FUTURE supply will not keep up with growing world demand. Why have they bet this way?

Because WE want to be GREEN. Every person and company in this country wants to be seen as a GREEN company or environmentally friendly. How do you become GREEN?

You ignore the laws of economics (everything has a cost) and determine to save the planet at ANY cost. You ask stupid questions like "how much would you spend to save the planet"?
Why do we need to SAVE the planet?

Because environmentalists have bamboozled US into believing the Global Warming crap. (or enough americans to get thier way)

It's simple,,, everytime you hear or see a PERSON, COMPANY, or especially POLITICIAN claiming to be GREEN,,,, then KNOW it's going to cost YOU some major GREENBACKS.

Thus,,, I dispise environmentalists and greenies,, even though I take as much care of the environment as them.

knight of bawaa
What cost more,,,?
Europeon gas or American?
compare $9 to $4.5.

There,,, class dismissed.

afrika
Gas costs more than ever today for EVERYBODY,,, the suv to the minivan to the prius. Everybody is paying more than they NEED TO,,, WHY?

You say we can't blame it LIBS because prices went up in the last 2 years.,,, HMMMM

History lesson for the last 30 years please.

Who says we cannot drill in ANWR? Who says we cannot drill off either of our coasts? Who says we cannot develop nuclear energy? Who says we cannot drill in all federal lands? Who says we cannot build more refineries?

The sooner you realize the nitwits that have been hampering OUR supply of oil the sooner you can recognize what has been happening in this country for the last 30 years.

In the last year enough stupid americans have fallen for the global warming crap that speculators have bet that WE will never improve the situation.

Speculators are pretty smart considering there are enough nitwits like yourself around to prove them right.

Irrelevant, scooter
You're dismissed.

Now go learn about Marginal Utility.

knight_of_baawa
Scooter already has a better handle on Austrian principles than you do. Murray Rothbard did know a little something about the oil bidness.
I taught him.

What we are seeing today is N-O-T the result of a generalized currency debasement. It is the result of contrived shortages on both the petroleum front and in the grain department.

That dollar-to-euro exchange rate is (a) partially the result of Europeans Central Bank
support buying, (b) partially the result of Europeans cashing in their dollar earnings in order to satisfy euro-denominated debt and
(c) darned irrelevant to our overall domestic purchasing power.

Murray's monetary history is outstanding as an illustration of what has happened in the past.
As an explanation of the current oil spike, it is not relevant. My proposed corrective action enfilades the target. Got a better one?
Let's hear it.

solution
lets have the sierra club start thier very own GAS COMPANY. Think of the benefits...

1. Libtards can now feel better about gas company profits.
2. They can drill anywhere they damn well please,, (think grand canyon) nobody will blink an eye with the protectors of the environment doing this,, and think of all that oil they can add to the market.
3. They can refer to THIER oil as ORGANIC and NATURAL. Libtards will eat it up.
4. They can charge you carbon credits on the oil you are puchasing from them. Just consider it another wonderful tax on top of all the other gas taxes you pay.
5. They can build refineries anywhere they damn well please. (think ALCATRAZ ISLAND)

Please environutjobs start your own gas company so YOU can help us all out. YOU CAN DO IT.

No to oil exploration
Yes to economy busting global warming insanity.

John McCain on Energy & Oil

Voted YES on disallowing an oil leasing program in Alaska's ANWR. (Nov 2005)

Voted YES on banning drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. (Mar 2005)

Voted YES on removing consideration of drilling ANWR from budget bill. (Mar 2003)

Voted NO on drilling ANWR on national security grounds. (Apr 2002)

Please explain how "marginal utility" is the answer to very socialist policies making gas $9 versus less socialist policies making gas $4.5.

What A Rant!
Reading MCCullough's article and most of the usual suspect's responses, one could get the idea that democracy doesn't work. If I don't stay amused at Websites like this one, on both sides, I might get scared.

Since the presidential election of 1800, we citizens have been subject to screeds like this one. Maybe we'll figure it out one more time, maybe not.

scooter
Please explain what makes you stupidly think that what you're trying to red herring about has any meaningful import to the cost of gas in the US.

Go learn about marginal utility.

traditionalist
please don't refer to MCCAIN as a conservative. (or bush for that matter) To believe in the Global warming crap or pander to GREEN ideas is not conservative.

Your exactly correct on Mccain's voting record and what he thinks on global change.

All 3 presidential contenders believe this hogwash and thus our country will be at the mercy of these speculators for some time to come. Having all presidential contenders admit to energy suicide just made the speculators bet that much easier.

The only wild card is prices going high enough to get americans to SEE the "costs" of saving the planet and naturally investigating for themselves if they want to continue this GREEN mentality.

knight of bawaa
Subject: scooter
Please explain what makes you stupidly think that what you're trying to red herring about has any meaningful import to the cost of gas in the US.

Go learn about marginal utility

OK,,,, IGNORE the fact that more socialist policies double the price of gas,,,

Tell me HOW marginal utility is the answer.

knight of bawaa
on the red herring thought,,,,

Are EURO gas prices going up (like ours) at the same time as our currency being devalued but not thiers?

If currency devaluation is the answer to our higher gas prices then why has thier GAS price gone up by the same % but thier $ is not devaluing?

Maybe you should ignore these red herrings,,, they are sometimes pesky little things.

knight of bawaa
The sooner you come to the conclusion that speculators are USING YOU as the red herring the sooner we can get the price of oil down.

Doing nothing else than admitting our flawed previous energy policy and vowing to correct it from here on out (vigorously) will significantly lower prices,,, even before we drill 1 extra barrel.

Right now they are betting on future supply problems. YOU are thier current ACE IN THE HOLE.

What if
The president and congress announced together that SHALE OIL in the intermountain west. Would be heated processed and drilled on a level of national importance with that of the MANHATTAN PROJECT (meaning GREENIES can shove it). 2 trillion barrels of proven reserves (more than all the rest of the world combined)

What do you think SPECULATORS would do with the price of gas in such a situation THE NEXT DAY?
How about the stock market? What would that do for the GDP of the NATION?

Why does the USA over the last 40 years avereage 3-4% GDP and the EUROS 1-2%?

knight of bawaa
marginal utility.

I suggest that a better margin of utility is obtained by purchasing a gallon at $4.5 versus $9.
This assumes that YOUR definition of best utility is SAVING $.

Perhaps your idea is the opposite. The GREEN movements idea of the best utility is COSTING YOU the most $ for that same gas. Thus you use LESS gas and of course POLLUTE less towards global warming.

So,,,, margin of utility is all about what the definition of utility IS. If you believe the GREENS then a great MARGIN is high priced gas to stop global warming pollution. If you are of the opinion that the GREEN mentality is retarded then you probably want low priced gas, and should thus view the DEMOCRATS, GREENS, and ENVIRONMENTALISTS as a scourge.

How's that for a discussion on the margin of utility?

Laughing and laughing
Hey Kevin,
you really should be a stand-up-comedian. Your article had us rolling around on the floor in tears of laughter.
So Bush-Chaney have absolutely nothing to do with the problem. Mmmmm. Never thought of that before.

But one very serious point. Amongst other things, (starving babies being too hilarious to even go into), you mention 'elected liberals'.
The magic word here, Kevin; is ELECTED (yes, I shouted). It's called DEMOCRACY, right.
If you want to live in a place where things are just done without the people having a choice then go live in China or Venezuela. But then you'd just vanish into one of their Gulags. (...now that's an idea :-)

$9 v $5...
At lest in Europe the roads and bridges are not collapsing through under-financing and the trains and public-transport systems actually function.
Oh no! The spectra of actually paying taxes for a functioning society...

A refinery on your doorstep...
I suggest that you Good Ol' Republicans offer the government your land for free (for the common good you're always ranting on about) to build the new refineries in your neighbourhood.

And while I'm at it...
Can one of you Republican 'experts' explain WHY the oil industry (American producers included) would be interested in bringing down the price of oil?
If these new sites were drilled the price of crude would fall then they wuld demand then that the government aka the Taxpayer give them subsidied.
(Oops, sorry - tax relief - it's only these commie Europeans who give subsidies)

I'm afraid you relaxed too Much..
and have passed into the world of marxist stupid! What is it about sticking the bill of your stupid ideas on those of us who work for a living and have kids that will have to pay for your lazy, arrogant butts?? Scooter is correct. The true Americans, the 70% of us that actually work for a living and don't try to steal what our neighbors have, are going to rise up and demand that the greens take a hike! Drill! Refine! Build nuclear! The China Syndrome was a scare monger movie that obviously worked too well. Thanks for the sane posts Scooter, Backwoods, lost native, and Oilpatch! The rest of you go back to moveon.org!

Hi Stunned,
Isn't it the Free-Market, Capitalist, Republican oil industry responsible for the $135/barrel oil?
Or is Exxon, the Saudis and the others also controlled by left-wing Pinko, Subservive, vile, traitorous liberals?

oops, spelling
should be 'Subversive'

Letsallsmokedope....
For the last 40 years I've heard your mewling, subversive, ideas of how to turn America into some kind of utopia; and never bothered to refute it because of it's unAmerican, anti freedom, and communist nature. I've been asleep at the wheel because I can't believe you really want to tear down this country and destroy our culture. But you have been diligently working, turning up the water one degree at a time, until now we are rapidly approaching a rolling boil. People will wake up and decide that the caribou will taste delicious, thank you, now start drilling! My power bills will go down, thank you, fire up the nuclear reactors! Tell the enviro-whackos to fix some other country, we need oil exploration here! (at a profit, there will be plenty of competition) Let's get back to our true American values, Relax, robert, sam, afrika etal; and be free again, ok?

Hi Stunned,
Don't you think it's time that you opened up to the reality that the Free-Market, No-Controls, 'American' Multi-Nationals (the oil companies included), don't give a monkey's t**d about you, your job, your family and America.

All they care about is their profit. And if they have to sacrifice you, your job, your family and America for that profit they'll do it without a qualm.

And how Free-Market would you be if they decided to build that Atomic Waste Dump next to your house.

Not just liberals kevin...
Republicans controlled Congress and the White House from 2000 - 2004 and I'm not aware of one new oil well, refinery or nuclear plant that was approved. Why don't we just call them career politicians who prefer their jobs and power over the welfare of the country.

How do I like $5 gas. I love it. I can't wait for it to jump to $10 if that is what it will take for the people of this country to oust the political elites from Washington. While they are the cause of the problem, they hold hearings to try and shift the responsibility to someone else. Then, the morons in this country actually believe it. Maybe when the price gets high enough, their indifference will change into resolve.

Until then, we the sheeple are getting what we deserve.

Bush and the Enviro crowd both culpable.
The support by this administration in purposely degrading the value of the U.S. dollar has greatly affected the price of crude oil.

In addition, the Iraq war has contributed to middle-east instability, leading to more apprehension over oil supplies.

So, yes, Bush can share in the blame here.

But McCullough is absolutely correct that the environmental extremists, so powerful in the Democratic party, have GREATLY damaged our nation, placing us in the embarrassing position of being supplicants to middle-east oil barons and Venezuelan thugs.

What environmentalists have done is criminal, in my estimation.

They have sabotaged efforts to make our nation and people more self-sufficient.

Overall, I give this article high marks.

My criticism of McCullough is that he gives a pass to the administration's complicity in purposely degrading the value of the U.S. dollar.

That in itself has made the price of a barrel of crude oil $30 or more than it ought to be.

But on the damage the environmentalists and their Democrat party enablers have done to our Beloved Republic, McCullough is absolutely correct.

Scooter
As a percentage, the price of gasoline in the United States has risen much faster than in Europe.

When Bush took office, price of crude oil(barrel)was about $25-$30.

Now it is $125 and counting.

Check the price of gasoline in the U.S. in 2001 and now, and compare it with price of gasoline in Europe during that timeframe.

Administration's policies in devaluing the U.S. dollar have resulted in higher gas prices at the pump here, altho that is not the only reason.

Bush does not get a pass here.

BUT, the environmentalists are an even larger part of the problem.

Help Me
Could someone please explain to me exactly what Bush and/or Cheney can do about high fuel costs?
I keep hearing that these two are to blame for the energy mess, but I am not smart enough to figure out exactly how Bush/Cheney are involved. Please help me.

Corporations don't pay taxes...
...their customers pay the taxes for them. Both the taxes that are right up front and the taxes that are hidden in the price of the product.

We don't have an "energy"problem in the United States. We have a "political" problem, and that problem comes out of Washington,D.C.!I would feel safer being ruled by a half dozen oil companys than all the politicians in Washington.

Robert...
The world wouldn't seem so dark if you would just pull your head out of your posterior. McCullough is absolutely correct -- liberals, environmentalists and their companions in lunacy (that means you) are responsbile for the mess we are in. We have enough oil to tell the rest of the world to kiss off, but these bozos apparently want us on our hands and knees begging to tyrants like Hugo Chavez.

A pox on all your houses. The best thing that could happen to America is to round up every liberal in the country and drop them all on their own island far, far away.

Kevin -- The Liberals Did It?
Newt, the Great, was oil drilling part of his contract? Don't think so. Double Bush -- drilling, no. They have friends in Saudi Arabia. Didn't old Bush come back with a plane load of goodies in his final days? Have you heard Jorge Bush demanding drilling or retard Repubs in Congress putting forth a bill every day to get drilling, nuclear energy, or coal-to-oil? It was the silent majority, then became the minority. Dimwits with no vision. But then, perhaps it was a planned thing. Listen to Lindsey Williams, accept it for what is is worth but think about it.

More Oil For our Oil Addiction
I gather Mr McCullough's solution to high gas prices is to increase the oil supply by taping into domestic reserves, which will lower prices. But then won't demand for oil increase as well? Which will just drive prices back up again.

Keeping our economy dependent on oil is not good for our long term energy needs. We need alternatives to oil. The problem is we lack political leadership or will for a comprehensive srategy. All politicians are to blame..Not Just liberals.

something to consider and...
wonder about.

http://www.pushhamburger.com/hidden.htm

Read the article!
Robert,

Obviously you didn't read a word in this article. Go back and read it! Bush didn't give us $5 gas -- the Democrat Congress did!

great article Kevin
We the people need to start a movement to take back our oil...It is ours, not the GD gov't loonies who bow to the greenies. We need nuclear and our own oil to be independant and we all know it.

Everytime someone applies for a license to build a nuke plant or a refinary, they get sued and the greenies keep them in court till they give up..that's not democracy, that's terrorism by lawyers.

It's time to take this country back.

Huh?
Of course, the fact the the country has been under the Republican leadership (or lack of any) for the last 7 years has nothing to do with the state of economy we are in, right? Yeah, how convenient: always blame it on the other guy. No wonder, you, Conservatives, have been losing left and right.

fools
Congress is populated by fools and friends of fools. We just approved the first refinery in 30 years. They refuse to allow new exploration while China is taking oil off OUR coast and selling it to us for 130$ a barrel. Maxine Waters talks about nationalizing the industry since Congress RUNS EVERYTHING so well. Gee, of course they can run it better than Oil Execs who have been doing it 20-40 years...

Keep 'protecting the environment' you idiots. In reality you are simply making up a new green religion and making yourself to be some 'defender of the faith'. Its pathetic on so many levels.

Bush signed onto ethanol crap but Congress is cutting us off from exploration and refining.

Where are the capitalists?
Why don't we know much about the energy policy that has not been passed?

The republicans have done a horrible job of educating everyone about capitalism and how the free market will result in more energy and more efficient use of energy.

Could it be the corporations WANT government intervention to control competition?

It is easy to collect taxes on a fuel that must be dispensed from licensed stations.

How could the government collect taxes on home grown fuel or from CNG filling from home? Or electricity used to charge your car from your garage?

The government is conflicted and has a vested interest in promoting gasoline as a fuel or any fuel it can control and collect taxes.

Recently a company announced it has a device that will produce ethanol at home only using sugar. Moonshiners used to call it a 'still, but this is a bit more sophisticated, but how likely would the government let you make your own ethanol at home?

I agree the socialists/liberals have made significant contributions to our current dilemma, but the 'conservatives' and Republicans have been ineffective in promoting free market solutions.

consumers can continue....
to attack each other and blaming just Republicans or Democrats, or we can realize that the situation we have now is and has been a concerted effort.

100 senators and some 435 house members give us what they want us to have. The mess did not happen in just the last few years but has been an ongoing agenda for decades. Sometimes Republicans were in control and sometimes Democrats.

Consumers are being held hostage by our elected representatives from both parties who in their brilliance have gotten us in this fine mess we are in.

Now what to do about it?????

To Farmer's Wife: What to do.
Vote all incumbents out of office for a few election cycles.

A Simple Plan
Most of the pain we are suffering now could be ameliorated with some simple steps.

1.Open up all available public lands and off shore areas for drilling.
2.Create a positive regulatory and legal climate to encourage refiners to increase refining capacity for lower grade crude.
3. Select one model nuclear reactor for public utilities to use nationwide. Utilities employing this style reactor would be exempt from the perpetual environmental litigation that stalled nuclear power generation in the eighties.
4. Convert the trucking industry to natural gas.

These four steps would allow the nation to negotiate the energy short 20 year period ahead with minimum disruption for the lives of average Americans.

Fuel Prices
Ethanol is produced to mix with gasoline. In this country it is mainly made from corn. I don't conside it a problem that corn is also a food. My problem is not whether or not some one in Africa is hungry, that is their problem. I want to make a decent profit on the corn I grow on my farm. If that offends others tough luck.

marjon, that and...
demand more accountability from them. We can't just keep voting them in and then not keeping our eyes on them.

Term limits are needed, we the people should decide when and if they get a raise.

We the people have a part in this mess, partially because so many are willing to sell personal liberty in exchange for something the government promises that they want and that politicians are willing to do whatever to keep getting elected.

How many senators do we have that have been inhabiting the senate floor for several decades?

man, you libturds
are dumber than a box of rocks. you can't see the forest because your eyes are closed. then you unite to vote in some really evil people who hate america and want to turn it into another russia. i can't figure out why you want to kill america. probably most of them can't make a real living so they need to be taken care of by the govt.

Shades of Soylent Green!
Good morning, class! Today we liberal bashing and conservative deep-denial day, and isn’t this fun! We've dense smoke and deceptive mirrors, ear-piercing noise, no light, and scalding invectives unbecoming of civilized folks.

McCullough tells us that today’s oil reserves were developed by the deposit and compression of carbon life-forms over the years [from 165 to 225 millions years BCE most geologist propose] . He also suggests that “forests, animals, marine life, and HUMANS” have not stopped dying, and proposes that we should be “harvesting [such] energy supplies which have already been processed for us“. Why didn’t I think about that! Human cadavers [a huge landfill problem] were the principal ingredient in “soylent green” which were processed into the fall-back food source in the 1973 science fiction movie of the same name. Starring arch conservative Charlton Heston the film depicted a futuristic society in which overpopulation and pollution, and the resultant severe damage to the environment had led to widespread unemployment and poverty. Those avoidable conditions [for which all of us are responsible] are largely responsible for the current petroleum crisis.

QParker- looking in the right direction
Except none of your recommendations would get a mention in DC.

I do have a problem with trucks converting to natural gas. Do you realize how inefficient a 500 HP gas engine is?

There is a reason trucks run on diesel - torque! In order to move 80,000 pounds of truck and cargo efficiently and economically down the road at highway speeds, you need at least 1250 foot pounds of torque which is generated by diesel engines in the 12 liter, 400 hp range. I'm no expert, but I suspect for a gas engine to develop that much power would require huge displacements in the area of 14 liters and they just don't make 'em.

Thanks to greenies, in order to meet stringent emission standards, diesel engine manufacturers have been forced to tinker and tweak their motors until they are now LESS fuel efficient, run much hotter and consequently don't last as long.

Now Congress and Dubya are killing the auto industry with the stupid CAFE standards.

Anyone who thinks gubmint can do anything better than private industry is smoking rope. They mess up everything they touch.

Our Oil Resources
Most people are not aware that we have an oil well on Gull Island Alaska that has enough oil and natural gas in it to last America 200 years. Read "The Energy Non-Crisis" by Lindsey Williams, Chaplain of the Alaska Pipe line.
The Oil cartel, BP & ARCO have an agenda for oil to rule the world and its working. They have people in New York and London sitting at Computers telling the Arabs what they can get for a barrel of oil.
If you can handle "The Truth" read the book. enough said.

Wouldn't you know... The 1st post

is not only by wobbie, but also 100% WRONG!

Ooops, sorry. If it's wobbie's post it IS wrong!

Pres. Bush did not bring us $5 a gallon gas any more than I did.

In fact, this has been coming for the past 38-40years thanks to the... Tah Dah.. LIBERAL-GREENIES who refused to allow any drilling in our own country or off shore, and have also refused to allow the oil companies to either build or refurbish any refineries.

Now we have the leftist Senate sweetie, Maxine Waters almost threatening to "nationalize" the oil companies.

If that's not waving a big... HUGE... RED (communist) flag, then I don't know what is!

Since stupid people stilll vote
every election cycle and stick the rest of us with a bunch of self=centered, destructive, out of control 4 year olds who never go away, this is what we need to do:

Build a 10 foot wall around DC and contain the fools. Set up a dummy TV camera to cover every block so they don't have to trample each other to get in front of them and let them pontificate and grandstand to their hearts content.

Throw money over the wall periodically, say $1 million per member of Congress (which would be really cheap in the long run) and thus pre-occupied, these moron politicians wouldn't be meddling in the affairs of men.

The pioneering spirit of free enterprise and capitalism could then resume making this country what it was and should be again, The Greatest Nation on God's Green Earth.

Before it is too late!
OIL, Wholesalers, Insurance, Health Care, Fertilizers anything of Importance has gone way up in price. One reason is the Collage mentality of “whatever the public will bear” and the most damaging one “the law of supply and demand”. The first question must be; at what point is cost of something to much? The Second part of the question is. What should happen when the supply is deliberately caused to be in short supply just to raise the price?... Let me try to pass on the problem as I see it; as the value of the dollar drops the total family income drops as well. Let’s say the total is = to $1,000 a month loss, so if a family has say a 4k monthly income to now drops to 3k. Bigger question is a 100% disabled person get’s $820.00 a month SSD and cannot make any more money by law. With the current economy this means that person is - $180.00 at the get go. Now add to this the current retail pricing that is going up almost daily now, you have one great disaster forming. As the separation keeps growing between income and the retail prices continue to grow, the worse this problem will become. What has to happen is the income and the retail pricing must get more in line with each other, as the closer to center they are the more stable the economy. One must hope “BIG MONEY” will wake up before it is too late!

WHO'S TO BLAME?
Environmentalism is based on junk science, which is loaded with lies and half-truths.

Ultimately the blame for the skyrocketing cost of gasoline falls on the affluent, often child-free, elitists and their accomplices in both parties for passing "environmental protection" laws that have put all of the potential American oil fields off-limits to development.

The elitists see themselves as so much better than the rest of us that they should be able to dictate to the rest of us how to live.

The United States has not built any new oil refineries for the last 30 years. While Japan and the liberals' beloved France are now getting most of their electricity from nuclear power, the USA has not built any new nuclear power plants for over 30 years.

It is folly to underestimate how many elitists must be thrilled with what is happening. Communism, with its efficient police states and massive propaganda and war machines, failed to bring down the USA. Islam has shown itself to have great promise in bringing down the USA, but it will take time to get the job done. By intentionally making gasoline so expensive that most Americans must use it sparingly, no longer will the masses be able to partake of cultural and historical amenities and the great outdoors.

I don't disagree with the article
But anyone who believes that domestic drilling (which I support) will bring down the price of gas is mis-informed. We are OUT of cheap oil. That find in Brazil was not a major find. Nineteen years is roughly double the break-even period for the investment needed to bring it to market. We use much more oil than Brazil.

The price of oil will remain high until we develop alternatives. In four or five years, we will look back to $4 gas as cheap. There is no way to prevent that. The challenge is to stabilize it at a tolerable level while we transition (major structural changes) to the next era. The more we fool ourselves with simplistic political solutions, the longer it will take to address the real problem and the higher the price of oil will climb. It's not the oil companies, it's not speculators, it's US. For starters, here is a very interesting post (with great graph) by John Hinderaker yesterday.

I'm about as swayed by this article as you are by the lies that the enviro's put out. maybe you ought to do some investigating, somewhere besides the Lamestream Media. As Gen. Honoree put it. "Don't get stuck on stupid.

To jnik: you are right about the republicans. They are no different than the Dummycrats. That is why I am taking a long hard look at Bob Barr of the Libertarian Party. I agree with him more than McLame.

wasted space
you can commit to all the articles you desire in an attempt to expose the Liberal's damage to the USA, but it is they who control the mediums of mass propaganda AND the institutes of learning. I expect that this Nov the US public will go to the polls and hand Washington to the Liberals on a silver platter (the crazies electing "conservative blue-dog" Democrats to office can't seem to grasp that they will serve Liberal Democrat masters in Washington and hasten the demise of a once great USA.
The biggest laugh I recently had was while watching a show tauting the energy efficiency and "environment friendly" new generation of electric automobiles (in this case, electric/gas hybrids); you just plug it in at night and it's ready to go the next morning. Like the electricity it charges on is magically stored in the wall socket! NO, that electricity is produced in CARBON supplied plants producing that energy (many coal fueled plants)! Remember the last REALLY hot summer when the national electrical grid almost collapsed? Just what do the nut job environmentalists with their electric cars think is going to happen when they all plug in their vehicles? I guess President Obama will tell us (no probably mandate thermostat controls to make sure) to be happy in living and working conditions cooled to no more than 80 degrees!

We have in this country
oil off both sides of the continent. China is drilling off Cuba.

Shale oil in the West is equivalent to all the petroleum under all of Saudi Arabia

We have enough coal to run the country for a couple centuries, and coal gasification makes oil.

BUT,we have not built a refinery since 1973.

We stopped nuclear power in the 1980s.

We don't have enough storage for natural gas (Kennedy killed MA nat. gas storage recently).

Instead, we import almost 50% of our oil needs and 30% of that comes from the Middle East and its whacko gov't's, much else comes from Chavez's Venezuela (another communist nut), and Nigeria, which is offline now at least 6 mons. due to more civil war.

If the libs. want to blame someone, they can blame themselves for so-called environmentalism that has crippled the nation economically.

Libs. want to blame oil companies, but if the bans on off-shore drilling on the east and west coasts were lifted, the oil companies would jump in an produce up the whazoo.

We need to produce our own energy. Wind and thermal and solar and bio will prob. never add more than 1% to US energy needs. We'll need oil at least another century, unless everyone here wants to walk to work and sit in the dark in the cold in the winter.

Get energy from new refineries, natural gas storage, nuclear power, shale oil, coal tar, coal, coal gasification, wells off both coasts, the Gulf, all of AL, and wherever else it can be obtained.

Otherwise, sit and curse the dark.

For sure, include McCain among the nuts
Let's see, he believes in global warming (or pretends to, how can any adult really?), wants to control economic activity to prevent too much carbon emission (whatever too much is . . . ) and loves seeing illegals swarm over the border. So, great article and McCain will just exacerbate the problem. Stay home or vote Libertarian. Let real liberals get credit for the impending mess, not pseudo-conservatives.

wobbie: Before you go on pontificating,

about things you know nothing....

... why don't you just answer the question that's been asked countless times...

Are you....
1. IMPERSONATING an officer???
or
2. Violating the UCMJ???

Right
"Liberals have put into place legislation that restricts our ability to supply our energy needs for ourselves. "

Not even the most brain conservative is going to buy this bull about liberals. Everyone knows that Republicans have been control of congress and the white house, at least since last year, for a very long time.

“There is a lack of investments in modern equipment,” Ms. Merritt said. “The overwhelming preponderance is that if you have inadequate engineering and equipment, poor process safety management, and poor staffing, you’re set up for a catastrophe.”
Ms. Merritt, who was appointed by President Bush and will retire after her five-year term ends in August, also said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration does not conduct enough inspections.

“There is no enforcement,” she said.

No refineries have been built in the United States in over three decades, because refiners say they are too costly. Instead, they have been expanding their existing refineries."

Sorry.......can't help it
I have to respond to this.
The price of oil is in dollars. The dollar has fallen like a rock in the past 3 years because of our fiscal policy.
Don't say Repubs have controlled the government for the past 7 years. They are NOT Repubs. They are RINO's. Get that clear.
I think it is time for a serious 3rd party.
The oil co's are not spending money looking for new oil. They are buying back stock left and right to increase the value of that stock.
They have no moral value to do anything other than be profitable. Too bad tho, that when their profits are up that they are not searching and developing more new reserves rather than buying back their stock.
A windfall profits tax would help in this. IF you don't want to pay the tax, invest the money in exploration. That is pretty easy to understand......isn't it?
Gosh, get a grip on the real issues at hand.

We DO need to refineries...

And we need wobbie to answer the question...

Are you....
1. IMPERSONATING an officer???
or
2. Violating the UCMJ???

daft is clueless AGAIN!
Almost as clueless as wobbie...........

Great post, thank for putting in your 2 cents. Third parties have never worked, but this time around they just might have a shot.

leave taft alone. He is addled since becoming king lib's catamite. Engagement announcements and wedding plans are occupying his thought process.

We are still waiting to hear of the ultimate untra netro sexual couple, b hussein and edwewirds will be there to give away the bride when ever they dicided which is which

Republicans have distanced...
themselves from conservative roots. Libs have gone forward with their leftist agenda. With the Republicans going along to get along we are not going to effectively work on the energy problem for a substantial period of time and no time in the near future. The libs, I suspect, are going to tax us into absolute poverty from which they will attempt to rescue us. We should ignore the evironmental whackos and the global warming hoax and solve the problem.

A Bi-Partisan Scam
The price for a barrel of oil is now rising by one to three dollars on nearly a weekly basis. The price at the pump rise in unison and the average Joe is the one who is being hit the hardest.

Yes, our moritorium on domestic exploration is mostly attributable to the left but both George Bush and Dick Cheney were in the oil business and in the six years they had a majority in Congress, they did nothing to end the moritorium either. There would appear to be more at work here than just the touchy-feely greens.

What Congress cannot achieve by ramming through legislation that further restricts our liberties, they achieve either in the back room or by simply failing to act. Congress is putting a financial squeeze on the people. If they can't legislate what you drive, they will make your choice unaffordable.

Perhaps I am just being conspiritorial here but the OVERWHELMING

energy and the enviros
since the left has no problem identifying those they disagree with on the right let's turn the table.

Someone needs to provide a list of all those wackos on the left who stand opposed to energy exploration and innundate them with emails and protests countering their opposition.

When that doesn't woprk start harrassing them at homne and their workplace. They have no problem messing up the lives of others so someone needs to disrupt their lives.

When that doesn't work send internet warriors after these creeds and let them experience some real inconvenience.

When enviro wackos destroy public or private property let the enviro's experience some of the same tactics. Since they use tactics akin to terrorism let them suffer some terrorism from those who oppose the enviro's opposition to energy exploration but have no problem sending our treasure to the dictators controlling opec

try some enlightenment....
>I keep hearing that these two are to blame for >the energy mess, but I am not smart enough to >figure out exactly how Bush/Cheney are >involved. Please help me.

ok, here's two things:

1. bankrupting the treasury which has devalued the dollar to the point of being on par with some central american banana republics

2. kicking over a hornet's nest in a region of the world that supplies a significant amount of the world's oil.

take a look at the historical price of oil over the last 10 years and then mark on that chart the time when the iraq invasion took place. see the correlation?

talking point: Good point! :-)

I'll do my best! LOL

Here's Maxine Waters threatening to take over all America oil companies:

Read up on the numbers
The rate of production of "new" oil is very, very, slow. How you got the idea that it's being made continuously and that we don't have to worry about supply I don't know, but you should call your local college and ask to speak to a geology teacher who can brief you on how oil is created.

.....It is Elementary my Dear Watson ...

.....They want SOCIALISM ...and what better way to
accomplish that ...than by sabotaging FREE ENTERPRISE
& CAPITALISM ...

.....If the DEMOCRATS can convince enough voters that
free markets do not work ...by voting against all
development of Fossil Fuels and Nuclear Power ...so
that the economy is on the verge of collapse ...then
they can "SAVE THE DAY" with SOCIALIST" programs ...

.....The clueless masses have bought this tripe but the Slave/Masters in charge know what is going on ...

.....POLONIUS: "Though this be maddness, yet there is

.....COLOSSUS

Since Dems took over congress in 2006
EVERYTHING has gone to hell. Gas prices up.. mortgage crisis, unemployment up, less jobs and on and on. Somehow despite these idiots we are winning in Iraq thank God.

Voting Democrat is insane. America is starting to see it. If you love high gas prices, huge taxes, lost freedom and liberty, more regulation, attacks on your family values and a constant push towards socialism.... go ahead.... vote Democrat.

I hate it when that happens
Sorry for my incomplete post, I must have hit the enter key. To finish the thought, the "overwhelming" anger and disgust with the lack of action by Congress is evident. It is about time that they heard from us in the same intensity as they did on the illegal amnesty hoax.

I thought Iraq was for the oil?
Libs... where is the oil we were supposed to get when we invaded Iraq? We know Saddam and terrorism were all lies so Bush could go get oil for his buddies or what ever the hell the story was from the left.

So where is the cheap oil?

Face it. The left has caused the current energy problems and now it is starting to effect our entire country in a negative way. All liberal policies end up doing this in the end. Yet, when their policies fail, they try to place the blame on everyone and every thing except themselves.

Not going to work libs. We are going to pound you from here on out and expose you idiots as source of the problem.

Feel free to leave our country any time now. We don't want you here anymore. You hate this country, we know it and you know it. Get the hell out before you destroy the greatest country on the plantet to the point we can't save it.

t.p.
Apropos initials. You're going to have to at some point add something intelligent to the debate. So, the high oil prices are the liberals fault, bla, bla, bla... Then Exxon Mobil's $10 Billion quarterly profit is the consequence of the liberals too, right?

Taft, do you know the difference
between a profit and a profit margin?

Can you tell us TAFT, if the oil companie cut their profits in half, would that lower the price of oil?

Finally, why did you TAFT decide to become a liberal when everythign they do never works and always fails?

Hard to take you serious when you follow a group of people on the left who are total failures and fools based on past history.

Good Job Kevin;
Now we know WHY!
Next we need to know exactly WHO?
Then we can decide WHAT to do about it.

Aside from a VERY FEW nut cases;
This matter crosses Party lines.
The Libs are paying the same price at the pump we are.
The Libs are being hit just as hard by inflation as we are.
MOST of the Libs are just as angry about it as we are.
SO WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO BESIDES COMPLAIN TO EACH OTHER?

Magic Kingdom
"Finally, why did you TAFT decide to become a liberal when everything they do never works and always fails?"

I'm not a slave to any ideology but think down to earth common sense is what makes our democracy work. We really need to get to the bottom of why the gas prices are so high, and forget the political finger pointing.

All you liberals
Please tell us EXACTLY, step-by-step and cent-by-cent, how you intend to reduce the price paid for gasoline by the American People, by imposing additional taxes on the oil companies, since the new taxes will be added to the price, and WE THE PEOPLE PAY ALL TAXES. You could reduce the price by eliminating all the taxes, and replacing them with ONE proper tax to collect all revenue for each level of government..

Eliminate the 18.4 cents per gallon federal pump tax, and the 32 cents per gallon, PA State pump tax. Eliminate all the other taxes in existence, on all levels of government, which add up to one-third (1/3) of the price – of everything.

You could greatly reduce the price by writing a law which declares that ALL OFFSHORE OIL BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and hiring the oil companies to drill, pump, refine, and deliver all petroleum products to us for the cost of processing plus 10 cents per gallon profit.

This would eliminate the foreign nations’ price per barrel, the speculators’ add-on charge, the oil-tanker-ship charge, the oil spills when the tanker ships run aground, and the clean-up cost thereof. This would reduce the price for refined petroleum to well under a dollar a gallon, and make us independent of the Arabs and all other oil-selling peoples.

You could also reduce the price by no longer wasting our oil and wasting our food supply by diluting our gasoline with alcohol and making it inefficient. Gasoline provides energy by exploding in the engine, while alcohol burns and does not explode, providing no energy.

All of this would also end the budget deficit, put the balance-of-payments in our favor, and enable our paying off the national debt. What would increasing taxes on the oil companies do for us? Nothing good would come of it, only higher taxes, shortages, and more dependence, which is just what you liberals want most.

Try some reading about oil
For anyone who might like to study up on the oil business, geology, economics and politics, I recommend a few books to start with:
"The Party's Over" Richard Heinberg
"Peak Everything" Richard Heinberg
"Beyond Oil" Kenneth Deffeyes
"The Long Emergency" James Howard Kunstler
"Crude" Sonia Shah
There's been a lot of comments here about how someone is conspiring to raise oil prices. I suggest there is no conspiracy but that there is geology - oil isn't being made anymore and all the potential of ANWR or US coastal areas is not going to fundamentally change this fact.

taft
posting stupidity don't win arguments. But continuing to rely on the most unstable part of the world for energy whiel they actively plot for our destruction is continued stupidity.

Sending a average of $7,000 per person to opec makes even less sense. Even if we fould only enough new sources of oil to last a dozen years it would halt the flow of trillions to the ME that ends up funding terrorism.

Allowing new refineries would also keep the cost down as the country wouldn't be importing even more expensive gas.

But when the clowns in congress led by the dimwit pelosi stand in the way of an energy plan the left has little to complain about when they are the problem.

But your utter stupidity that oil profits are any bodies fault other than a non existent policy. The best way to lower prices is to encourage exploration. But since opec is charging $120 plus per barrel are you suggesting that american companieis should charge less. Obviously you have no understanding of economics.

But then again talking points don't give you anything other than your typical blame the right and blame the conservs and blame the repubs rather than blaming the dims who have opposed all sensible enrgy plans but stay with the failed status quo

There's this pesky thing called "reading comprehension", at which you fail.

You really need to reading to understand, and not just looking at the words and wishing them to be what they're not. And you also need to understand how monetary policy will impact prices. That you are an economic illiterate is not my problem.

t.p.
Boring talking points dribble. It's time to educate your self in reality.

people, people, people....
I think all of us who are here are interested in making things better. We may disagree in our politics and ideologies but we are all paying the same prices at the pump.

We need to call our government to task. Congress fixes nothing but gives us multitudes of problems and we allow them to do it.

We are being voluntarily enslaved to an ever more powerful central government. We need to stop asking government what they are going to give us and start demanding accountability.

With the federal budget going above $3Trillion, how much more are we going to allow them to waste? How much more do you think we can continue to pay for?

Shouldn't we be hiring better people to serve our interests. Maybe someone who understands the concept of double entry bookkeeping???? For every debit there has to be a credit and for every expense an income and for every asset a liability.

Until we stop beating each other up and speak up for ourselves, government's appetite for spending will continue to nationalizing everything, leaving us to their whims.

Oilpatch.
Here in Tx. Clearwater is drilling and completing a well every 15 days. At $10.00/barrel it was not profitable for these small pools. To relax(exlax) in Al. I live within 30 miles of the STNP and love it. They prepped the location for a total of 4 large scale Nuke reactors. Now 32 months ago they applied to increase the 2 we have to three. Not a drop of concrete. Oh yes. the enviros are still demanding studies and projections. They willnot have more than one meeting at a time so three years have passed and nothing. Oh yes that is Bush's fault!

Bob
your "decent profit" is being made at the point of a gun held by the government.
We consumers have no say as to ethanol being artificially supported. You chose farming as your business- including all the known risks-we did not choose to forcibly use ethanol in our cars so you could make a profit. It's just highway roberry-to coin a phrase carried out by our "elected" govt.

Illegal amnesty.
Dan.
They still try stealth amnesty plans on a continuous basis. Everyone better keep checking. The only solution to all the problems this bunch of elected crooks continues to cause is to throw them out! The one thing they will never agree to is term limits!!!

The sooner that you realize that you don't know what a red herring is, the sooner I'll stop treating you as a poseur.

Further: the "socialist policies" of Europe aren't in any way germane here. That's why it's a red herring.

So please: stick to what is germane. And US monetary policy is quite germane. The more dollars the fed has printed, the less valuable any one of them is (decreasing MU). So do you think you could actually wrap your little mind around that fact? It's been known since the 1870s. At least come into the 19th century.

Libs- How are you going to LOWER
the price of oil with your policies? That is all we are asking from Obama, Durbin and the rest of the Marxist left.

Tell us how you are going to LOWER the price of oil and other forms of energy or get ready to get the hell out of the way.

You hate the country so much you are willing to bring us down a few levels huh? Sorry, we don't want to suffer like Europe or the third would suffers. We are America. We don't roll our prosperity back on lies and BS from enviro nutjobs who hate Capitalism.

Re: "capt" Robert
To those unfamiliar with delusional “capt” Robert:
He claims he’s: a Capt USN, military & civilian test pilot; Border Patrol pilot, FAA flight examiner, Airline Capt. college professor, vice cop, a columnist & Mideast affairs consultant. LMAO. Here are the facts.

He’s probably a former USN enlisted man; frustrated pilot wannabe. He spends hours a day on TH. It’s the only life he has judging from the time he spends here. He’s good at Googling tech data to impress us with BS. He grades those he disagrees with. If you get an F, you know you’re winning the argument & making him look bad. When he’s shot down, he gets defensive & argumentative; a sure sign he’s lost another argument. When confronted with questions likely to expose him as a fraud, he either runs or replies: “I DON’T ANSWER QUESTIONS”. If he didn’t spend so much time defending himself from massive criticism, he might have credibility. But reviewing his previous posts, it’s obvious no mature adult behaves this way. No one with his claimed credentials wastes so much time on TH being defensive, equivocating previous lies, & tolerating such abuse. His attempts to impress with tech terms, frequent references to aviation exploits and how much he claims to earn as a military & Boeing test pilot are pathetic & would be considered immature & laughable, even for a teenager. He’s known as the Walter Mitty of TH. If I didn’t suspect he's a former enlisted man, you’d think he’s an immature, frustrated teenage geek whose life is spent in front of a computer. And emotionally, that’s what he is, & what he does. I’d suggest he GET A LIFE. But TH is all he has. He’s just a sad joke here.

Suggestion: He feeds on attention. So don’t feed this A**hole. IGNORE HIM! And FLAG ALL HIS POSTS. Eventually he’ll go away.

Remember that lie?
The war will pay for itself once the oil starts flowing!

NOTHING but vile hatred from Annie, and no doubt we'll be seeing her on tv sometime after she has been arrested for some unspeakable, reprehensible crime.

I seriously doubt Wobbie was ever in the Navy.
About the only thing he could be is a Section 8 out of Boot Camp.

Wobbie does not even know Ordinance Color Codes.
How many who have served in the military do you know who can't identify ordinance by the color code?

Magic Kingdom: I doubt it daft knows

the difference between "gross" and "net."

But, the last figures I've seen indicate that out of the oil companies gross profits, their net profit is only 4%, yet 15% of their gross goes to Fed. taxes...

knight_of_baawa Communist PARROT!
You are getting to be an awful nuisance with your constant inane PARROTING of other peoples posts.

Your conceit combined with your insane compulsion to be noticed has already earned you the disgust of TH.

You must be in the Communist know!
Why don't you tell us about the deal you Communists made to get NAMBLA to support you!
Is it true you Communists have promised to lower the age of consent to 13 so NAMBLA can legally molest children?
http://www.santorumblog.com/index.php/2006/10/06/demand-tha t-democrats-condemn-the-aclu-and-nambla/

Clearly, knight-baby can't comprehend

that there might actually be one or two people who read the columns and posts on TH who aren't quite sure yet that he-she is one angry, sick, demented person..

(I can't imagine how, but strange things do happen!)

But, when he-she posts anything as angry and hateful, and completely without substance, as he-she-knight-baby does, and continues to do (including the simple act of repeating posts back to the poster... something my kids did when they were 2yrs. old) then THAT pretty much lets the cat is out of the bag...

Heaven knows who he-she thinks he-she is fooling. Being narcisstic, he-she certainly wouldn't think it's him-herself...

Well, I see that Wobbie
Still hasn't learned to deal with reality. But then I never expected him to.

Those are nice stories about the Garyville Marathon plant. But even they address the biggest problem that Wobbie refuses to:

"Completed in 1976, the Garyville refinery is the last grassroots refinery constructed in the United States"

That came right out of one of the articles YOU gave a link to Wobbie.

THE GARYVILLE PLANT IS THE LAST REFINERY BUILT IN THE UNITED STATES!!
IT WENT ONLINE IN 1976, THAT WAS 32 YEARS AGO, WOBBIE!!!

That they're expanding it, and others around the county is great, but they have to go thru all kinds of hoops and jumping over barrels to get the permits to expand any of them, and that wastes A LOT of time and money.
As I, and others, have told you repeatedly, IT'S NOT ENOUGH!!

THEN, there's your REALLY LAME excuse that we "can't build new refineries because the pipelines go to the old ones."

GET A CLUE MR. "EXPERT ON EVERYTHING."

WE NEED NEW, THAT'S SPELLED N-E-W REFINERIES. AND WE NEEDED THEM HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AT LEAST TEN YEARS AGO, 20 or 30 WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER, THAT WAY THEY'D BE ONLINE NOW, WITH N-E-W PIPELINES BUILT TO THEM FROM THE NEW WELLS WE SHOULD HAVE STARTED DRILLING AT LEAST THIRTY YEARS AGO.

Your refusal to see that attitudes like yours are the problem only further proves that you are as totally cluelss about oil as you are about everything else you try to convince us you know so much about.

F--- (that's F minus,minus, minus) for you, BOZO!!

I can also see
That "Knight of Boo Hoo" is admitting that he's lost all arguments here by virtue of the fact that he's now taken to reposting the words of other posters and making them sound like his own by changing their last lines.

We accept your surrender Knight. Now run along and play nicely with the other children.

MyOpine
Ignoring the fact that you're directing people to a site dedicated to santorum - I feel sick just thinking about it - your argument must be pretty weak if you're accusing anyone who disagrees with you of being a communist or paedophile. How did you get on to these subjects from an article about oil? Or are you making some kind of oil pun by being 'crude'?

Who is benefitting most from high prices? Answer: The oil companies and the Govt (through taxes).

So, 1. Who's been in Govt the past 7.5 years, supposedly being in charge, while actually presiding over a weakening dollar?
2. Which side of the political divide has more ties to big oil?
3. Who started the war that lead to more instability in the Middle East?

So, is Bush an idiot? No, he's making a fortune out of high gas prices, as are his friends in big oil who supported him in the first place.

Finally, 4. Who uses more gas, therefore increasing demand - the guy in the hummer or the tree-hugging liberal?

And yet who is Kevin blaming? Oops.

Anne
Knight of Bowwow is a silly little girl about 12 years old. Shortly she will revert to her version of;
"I'm made of rubber, you're made of glue."

She is simply a PARROT and lacks the intellect to phrase an intelligent original post.

She will parrot support for whatever Communist issue is mentioned then address childish insults to any Conservative who replies.

We need to petition TH to card these children and send infants like Knight_of_Bowwow to a day care center.

With sincere apologies to Larry Harmon
The original Bozo the Clown.

Calling Wobbie "Bozo" is an extreme insult to you because CLEARLY he's not anywhere close to being as smart as you are/were.

Scooter on McCain
I don't think I did call McCain a conservative, but if I implied that, please forgive me, I certainly didn't mean to. I, as I'm sure you do as well, take a lot of flak from today's modern conservatives for pointing out that under Bush, actually, it began with his father, the Republicans have become the liberals they so disdain. No matter what the Democratic left comes up with, the modern conservatives in Washington can always go them one better. That's what "compassionate conservatism" is all about. Tragically, if McCain is elected, and I'm afraid that may very well happen, it's going to get a whole lot worse.

Magic Kingdom
"Subject: I thought Iraq was for the oil?
Libs... where is the oil we were supposed to get when we invaded Iraq? So where is the cheap oil?"

Isn't that a question for the Right? They were the ones who claimed that the war would lower gas prices, not the left.

Some people on the Left might have also said that attempting to lower gas prices was the only reason for the war - but that doesn't mean that they believed such a plan would actually WORK.

These Lefty opposers have, in anything been vindicated - they predicted right from the start that the war would lead to instability, and therefore higher gas prices.

As a supporter of the Iraq invasion myself, I have to say that it seems they were correct.

And I know it is not possible to convince you "Liberals" afflicted with terminal BDS that Bush will not be on the next ballot.

Having read these posts
for the past hour; I can't help being struck with how subversive elements contaminate a conservative blog. Why are K of BW and Robbie posting here?
With the housing bubble and increase gas costs, why aren't people screaming for Pelosi and Reed to be buried in excrement? Possible answer is the MSM which is still Hate Bush 24/7 mode. And Fox is no answer, or counter balance. We have these conservative sites, but they are diligently patrolled by subversive types, that take solutions nowhere. I personally feel that we need Obama, Pelosi and Reed to rule and wake up the sleeping giant that is America. Can we last 4 more years (or 2)? My parents did.

MyOpine
"And I know it is not possible to convince you "Liberals" afflicted with terminal BDS that Bush will not be on the next ballot. "

Er, what's Bush not being the next ballot got to do with it? The article was pointing the finger for who is responsible for high gas prices. Are you saying that we're not allowed to discuss the culpability here of Bush - the guy in charge the past 7.5 years - simply because he's not on the next ballot?

As for your "INSULT CONTEST OF LONG STANDING!" - well I'm sure it sounds very mature. And truly I am sorry that I got in the way of it. Carry on...

look i put my faith to handle the energy crisis in congress, esp. to Holy Hilly and Mad Maxine.

hilly will stop the speculation where someone in england, germany, arkansas, or where ever can turn 1000 usd into 100,000 usd on the futures market in oil.
how she will accomplish this, i haven't heard. maybe tyson could help.

i heard maxine waters, D. Cal, threaten to sociali . . . well um um take over the oil companies.
i think that could work. i look at the va hospital and dream of $20/gal gas.
when the government takes over the medical industry and oil industry, we will all be better off. just look how it worked in the former disUnion of soviets s. reps.

wow, 2 old gas bag for the price of 1.

maxine's district is demographally changing. not dem to rep, but black to brown. only retirement or anotonio villarsalinas running for congress will shut that one up.

THANK YOU Town Hall: It appears that

Now, lets get back to the TOPIC! :-)

to the left leaning people here...
we know by now that you think conservatives are stupid and you know that conservatives think liberals are stupid.

So, in the interest of solutions and not speaking for your politicians or about ours (most of us don't agree with the way ours have performed either btw) could you possibly give us some insight as to what you think should be done to solve the problems of fuel prices?

You are busy shooting down our ideas, so let's hear some of yours! Then we can get back to arguing over politics.

AndyR
Since you are big on maturity;
Are you aware YOUR Party controls Congress?
Are you aware Bills originate with Congress?
Has Bush done ANYTHING to impede "Liberals"?
Bush & McCain are a great boon to "Liberals"!

"Liberals" are in power now!
And you keep shooting yourselves in the foot and whimpering about Bush!

Have the "Liberals" in our Government made ANY effort whatever to make us less dependent on foreign energy?
Have YOU Apathetic "Liberals" asked them to do anything about the problem besides make it worse?

Bush is not in great favor among Conservatives because he always acquiesces to "Liberals"
Go ahead and use him as a scapegoat for your SELF INFLICTED injuries!

"When in the Course of Human Events---"
We are being "HOSED" by Both Parties. Isn't it time for the "Revolution" that Thomas Jefferson declared should happen, whenever GOVERNMENT got Out Of Control, and out of touch with the Governed?? A polititian's Job, is to get Elected/Re-elected, by ANY means necessary. They make enough money on Graft 'n Corruption to buy Gas at ANY PRICE. "REAL CHANGE" will occur, when the People re-take Control of the U.S. Govt.[Not by electing someone who Never had a Bad Day in his Life] Congressmen should be selected like Jurors for jury duty. We Certainly could not do any WORSE. Imagine---A Congress of your PEERS, not of the elite "Rich an' Famous." People who actually WORK for a livin'. Perhaps then, all the lies and deceptions of the Politicians, left and right, would be exposed and corrected. I believe that the "Dumbing Down" of the American People,["watered down" education by govt. schools] and restricted freedom of Movement,-- [high gas/energy/food prices] has a Reason!! High Prices are used as a control. A Nation pre-occupied with these conditions is Easier to Control/Deceive/Manipulate, by the Very Ones who Caused the Problems. BIG GOVT. and BIG BUSINESS. {Who don't Feel the Pinch of High Prices] Follow The Money. Remember-- "None Dare Call It Treason" The inmates ARE running the Assylum.

Why should they? Bush will just veto it anyway

IMO, opening up areas of outstanding natural beauty will just delay the problem for a generation or two. Then our grandchildren will have expensive gas AND blame us for raping the country.

Solutions? Start concentrating on improving vehicle fuel efficiency, give better tax breaks on vehicles that are more fuel efficient. Oh, and improve public transport so that people aren't forced to use a car.

Have you ever used the Greyhound? It sucks. A couple of years back gf and I had to use it to get from Vegas to Flagstaff. A horrible, horrible journey. Damn bus kept breaking down in the desert. Took 3hrs longer than it was supposed to. The attitude was basically: "What do you expect scumbag? You haven't got a car so we'll treat you like a third class citizen."

littleredwing
We could put a halt to the energy silliness right here at TH if we could both set other issues aside and solve this problem.

We have people here with the expertise to find a remedy.

We have TH as a communication & distribution media.

All we lack is enough "Hands Across the Aisle" to tell Congress what we want done!

Drilling
I'm totally for drilling. My only worries is there isn't that much oil in the Anwar. It might cost more money to set up the facilities for the oil then it will cost more money than what we get out of the oil.

With that said I'm willing to take the risk. Who knows, just the idea that we are going to start drilling in that area may drive down gas prices, even if it is 5 years before we get a drop out of it. That oil is estimated only to last 10 years, During that time we have to make sure we have another energy source in place and we can eventually phase out oil by the time the taps run dry in the ANWAR.

Good plan?

Clearly, Annie-baby can't comprehend

Poor Neil

Because, Stunned
I'm more capitalist than every poster here put together. That's why I post.

Poor Annie
She really needs a therapist to help her deal with her self-hatred.

Oh, Kevin ...

There's much more here than meets the eye. You say:
"But liberals in Washington, the lobbyists who pay them well, and the far left environmentalist groups who are manipulating the public discussion would rather you not be able to pay your bills or even drive your car - than to give in and allow any expanded exploration to occur."

I believe YOU believe this is true. Liberals have their fair share in making life in this country unbearable in many things, but oil prices? I don't think so.

We could have TOMORROW, not in 2020, average consumption of 35 mpg. Two things are preventing it. First, the politicians hate diesel. No, not all diesel, just the one that can significantly decrease the fuel consumption for personal transport. Second one is car manufacturers who can't see point in planting hybrid power in something that will get 40 mpg, only in something that will get 25 mpg.

When I fill up my TDI for 65$, I can stand it considering that this will last for 450 - 600 miles of driving.

If nobody informs themselves and go to dealership with "my way or highway" attitude (making them understand they lost a sale because hybrid is in an SUV, not compact) ... you can b**ch all you want, but that's hardly liberals' fault.

MyOpine: No doubt you have a very good

point. Most likely a card carrying member of the communist party, and an officer of nambla...

There seem to be some deep seede issues in the he-she area with knight of baby...

Keep posting so he continues to "copy" like a 2yr. old, and Town Hall will pull him-her again.

To Hondo
Hondo, the costs involved in drilling and exploration are borne by the oil companies. No one yet knows just how much oil is in the ANWR, but I can guarantee you that after the geological tests are done, if it turns out that the greenies are correct that there is scant oil there, they won’t continue to throw good money after bad. But, just remember in the same area north of Prudhoe Bay, we have an area designated in the early 1900s as part of the National Petroleum Reserve, which lies west of ANWR. Though anything can happen, most believe the reserves there are enormous.

Hondo
I almost missed your post.
It would have been a tragic loss for me.
Please cite some examples for me of Bush vetoing "Liberal" Bills for oil exploration, creation of new refineries or building nuke power plants.

You do have knowledge of such incidents?
You are not just projecting "Liberal" bias are you?

The disease and the cure
While I wholeheartedly agree with Mr. McCullough's anti-regulatory prescriptions, I am in accord with Jerabaub's diagnosis. It was not free market supply and demand forces that primarily caused this situation. A Wall Street Journal estimated that more than half of the price increase at the gas pump was caused by our inflationary policy. Oil is a commodity priced in dollars. The price of commodities goes up when the dollar devalues (inflation). In euros, oil is only about $80 a barrel. (Europeans pay more than we do because of gas taxes).

Bush has had a semi-liberal, inflation-driving fiscal policy for years (we need to face reality and stop defending Bush just because Democrats are attacking him), the Federal Reserve has exacerbated the excessive money supply recently, and rebate checks have just started to go out to pick up the inflationary ball where the Federal Reserve is leaving off. There will be no mercy this summer at the gas station.

This is primarily the government's fault, and the solution is to get our politicians to stop pumping money out for their do-gooding and welfare programs AND to roll back the ridiculous restrictions against oil and other viable forms of energy. Both are absolutely necessary components to get the price of oil back down to reasonable levels.

you claim to use logic when you make your posts. Several weeks ago you claimed only to have interest in issues but weren't sure of where you stood. It seems that being a leftist is where you migrated to.

It is always amusing to see the rantings of children and young adults who fail to understand where the country has been and which direction is headed. Obviously your youth renders you incapable to fully understand the direction the country is headed and it is not going to be a plac e you will be happy.

But your leftist leaders think that because they are wealthy they have the right to make decisions for those who depend on their salary just to survive.

But my guess is that your income is so small so that you are probably paying minimum taxes but are still stuck with the high prices the country endures because your party and it's allegiance to the enviro's would rather pay higher and higher energy costs that allow energy exploration in this country.

But what is even worse is that you are a thoughtless shill for the party of entitlements and resistence to free choices. Your problem is that by the time you wake up it will be too late.

But if you actually paid taxes and had to support a family off an ever shrinking take home pay you would be demanding changes. Instead you continue to support a party that promises more govt programs and higher tax rates.

You claim to believe in america but have no trouble with b hussein wanting to tax america some $890 billion dolars or $7,000. per citizen to fund the UN plan to end world poverty. Perhaps you can explain why we owe the UN access to america's treasury

We can't compete this way!
The US is heading for third world status {because} for one thing, our pool of skilled labor is fast disappearing while millions of high school grads sell each other 'burgers and millions more illegals fight to mow our blighted lawns and tar our leaky roofs; and collect welfare. {Because} our steel mills and other heavy industries have refused to modernize and instead moved their investment capital out of the US. Meanwhile low-pay country's like China eat our lunch and then lend us cash at high interest to buy more...and more...and more...
So, our lighter-than-air petro dollars don't buy as much. Simple.
Our latest congress is anti-capital and anti-free trade, and worse anti-energy- independence! Meanwhile, as the boat sinks, they blow billions more borrowed dollars and then blatantly lie about inflation so as to reduce wages and entitlements hoping to make the US more competitive (and to save money for ear-marks). The rest of the industrial nations laugh at their antics and ship us more junk. They know the going-out-of-business sale is right around the corner.
Our congress is filled with morons. Dip-sticks who dress well and get their orders from people with lots of money to donate to campaigns; money guys who stole it from us and want to ensure the chuck wagon keeps rolling along.
Seems to me the con works. The government 'suits' mentioned get elected and re-elected not by thinking, intelligent voters but by idiot-monkeys from outer space whose serious political info comes from 20 yr old episodic TV sit-coms.

One of the latest political loons promises change; Change what, our diapers?

Don't you thing that we could spare the 2% of ANWR that could be drilled. 98% is a lot of wilderness area that very few tourists visit. I read an recently about how the caribou seem to like hanging around the pipeline. Their numbers have increased in that area.

Better fuel efficiency in cars is a good thing. Will tax breaks help the people on welfare who also drive a lot of cars to buy a new one though. They really aren't concerned about tax breaks. Maybe they can buy a used one a few years down the road.

Actually public transportation isn't very efficient except in urban areas and has been shown to be contributing to urban sprawl where it is available. These things may be good things when looking forward but do very little to relieve consumers in the here and now.

Alternative fuels, new technology and even drilling our own oil cannot be accomplished overnight.

Yes I have ridden a greyhound bus. Like I said mass transit out here in the boonies is not efficient or desirable.

GREENIAC BRATS & CRATS
Just read the article and the topic is paramount.
Sunday Parade Magazine, not exactly scholar material, had pix of an elderly woman ladling out food contents to supposedly a socially hungry person. Aside all the Associated Press imagery the question stands, does the woman or the food recipient know how the contents in the bowl got there?

It is the question I frequently pose to DummieCrats, Socialist-Progressives, Libo-Leftos, Members of the National Socialist Workers Party, donators to PETA, and Greeniacs regardless of intelligence quotient:
"That morsel at the end of your fork, do you know how it got there?"
Invariably, no response, I hear or read nothing!

Gasoline - the stuff most put in tanks - is liquefied vapors that when ignited explode in the cylinder thus pushing engine pistons and making the automobile move. Everclear, Corn Moonshine, Ethanol burns – a hot very-very hot – burn, but nevertheless it does not explode causing internal combustion. That stuff Everclear is best used as charcoal fire starter, lighter fluid, spot remover, or as a clean engine additive. During the 1920/30's feisty college kids used to spike the punch with the stuff to make the girls frisky kicking up their heals. Everclear eradicated much and many male and female virginity.

Everclear, Corn Moonshine, Ethanol makes a lousy substitute for corn flakes to feed kids in the morning; yet, Greeniacs PETA-Crats, Idiot-Crats have none or few children so they don't seem to fret over the costs of breakfast cereal.

I am an admitted snob - the Barack O'BoyToy won't admit he is a snob - and every Greeniac-Environmentalist I know has a bountiful trust fund. Rich over endowed boring people trying not to be boring! Instead of GreenPeace I recommend the Red Cross (please donate blood), instead of ACLU i recommend Legal Aid, instead of protest marching I recommend the March of Dimes!

Oil
Oil, whether anyone likes it or not, is the cheapest, most convenient, most portable means of producing energy that there is.

It is so much cheaper than any other method, that regardless of any regulations, it will be the #1 choice for energy production until the very last drop is used up.

But - it is a virtual certainty that the minute that last drop is gone, Americans, being the most ingenious and innovative people on the planet, will figure out any number of perfectly satisfactory alternative methods, which may not be as cheap as oil was, but which will certainly do the job.

If the libs were honest, they would simply tax gasoline at $10/gallon today, and force this transition now. However, they're all liars and cowards. Easier to yell at craven CEO's.

So - Here's the solution:

Instead of requiring minimum MPG efficiency from the automakers, set MAXIMUM MPG of, let's say - 8 miles per gallon ! Fix up that old '72 Coronet from the yard and bore out the cylinders!

Since we're going to use up all the oil before we switch to anything else anyway, why not bring that day closer by making its use as inefficient as possible ?

:)

YOUR EXIT FROM WMCA
Hi Kevin, You disapeared from WMCA and did not even let us know that you were leaving. We miss you even though we were disappointedin you.

Tough Cookies
The Neo-Cons deregulated commodities. That's why gas is 5 bucks. This article is ony about 25% right. The price of oil is now based on futures, a.k.a speculation.
This simple fact is what drives people into thinking about true conservation of resources.
There is nothing wrong with conservation. Anyone who tells you conservation is responsible for driving up the price of gas is misinformed.
The ones to blame are the ones who set the price. They set the price based on their gut feeling.
The price of gas is up there because there's a guy out there that bought the first $100 dollar barrel of oil just to be the first one.
These are the same folks that told folks that real estate always goes up(generally true, but not always).
I'm not blaming any of these price fixers for the nation's woes because people make choices to sign their name and pay their money without reading the fine print. That's their choice and it's their loss or gain.
Some Conservationalists saw the forest for the trees a while ago. Some of their ideas are working and it's becoming more of a net gain for our nation.

So what does it all mean...

“Forests, wildlife, marine life, and humans have not stopped dying - nor are they expected to anytime soon.” This is true and has been going on for millions of years; and will continue until the last forest, wildlife, marine life and human dies.

“Harvesting living energy supplies - like food - seems to be counter productive than harvesting energy supplies that in fact have already been "processed" naturally for our use.” Agree, harvesting these living energy supplies is foolish and counter productive. However, the naturally processed supplies take “Mother Nature” millions of years to produce.

“With our more advanced exploration capabilities we are also discovering that we are far - if it's even possible to be - from "running out of oil."” Currently we are using up these naturally processed supplies faster than “Mother Nature” can reproduce them.

A realistic “Energy Policy” that addresses both our short and long term energy needs has always been an illusive dream. “We The People” have aloud this to happen by not holding our politicians accountable for not doing what is needed.

Democrats Destroying America
Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and their America-hating ilk are trying to destroy America through strangling our energy supplies. They care not for the average American just trying to make a living, they want to seize power and turn us all into serfs. Time to turn these bastards out of office.

Re: So what does it all mean...
The earth definitely has a carbon cycle. However there may be more at work than the simple decomposition of plants and animals to produce hydrocarbons. How do you account for the methane (a hydrocarbon) seas on Triton where we can be fairly certain that dinosaurs and vegetation never existed?

speculation
speculation is the reason that gas today is $135 a barrel vs. 60.

About 2 years ago speculation on the price of gas started to go UP quickly.
This means more speculators BET that IN THE FUTURE gas supply would not keep up with DEMAND. (before that time speculation was equal to betters up and down thus the lower price).

Even though the last 30 years was noted as no new gas exploration and limits on searching SPECULATORS had previously bet (in large enough #'s) that the USA would come to it's senses and open ALL the land and sea to oil development. They assumed WE as a country would become RATIONAL. WE NEVER DID.

2 years ago that CHANGED. GlobalWARMING scam changed EVERYTHING.
Politicians, companies, citizens, everything and everybody wanted to be GREEN,, AT ANY COST.
Being green means you lower your carbon output or use less GAS. Thus the THREAT of the USA becoming rational and developing our own resources was OFF the table.

Speculation in this atmosphere of no new GAS production in the USA had only one place to go. YEP,,, thru the roof.

Considering MCCAIN and OBAMA both believe and spout the GlobalWarming crap don't expect speculators to change course on thier bets. Don't expect this country to become RATIONAL either.

Soooo,,,, support your oil speculator by believing in LIBTARD globalwarming and being GREEN. Don't support responsible energy policy because you might HURT thier profits.

knight of bawaa
nitwit,,,,

I know you view the gas companies, BUSH and devaluation as the culprit in our current Price of gas problem.

How about you and I fix it,,

1. You and I form a partnership LLC gas company to go and drill in ANWR, off both continental shelfs, shale oil in the intermountain west (more oil than in the middle east).
2. We round up investors telling them that WE have permission to do this, considering gas is $135 a barrel and BARNEY the DINOSOUR could drill for HALF that in all these locations I don't think we would have trouble raising $.
3. We quit our day jobs, drill BILLIONS of CRUDE in all these locations, and sip PINA COLADA'S in our twilight years.

All WE are missing is the permission to do it. LIBTARDS are in the way. Get your friends out of OUR way and together we will be rich.

This solution bypasses devaluation (who cares how much your cash is devalued when you have $20 billion of them), bypasses BUSH (get your nitwit LIBTARD buddies on board and I'll get BUSH), and bypasses the other GAS companies (they won't be making obscene profits, we will).

Or,,, You can keep flipping burgers the rest of your days (i'll find another LOGICAL LIBTARD to make it happen anyway).

Just a passing muse...
At about $4.40 for a gallon of fuel I can shift my XHD one ton turbo dually diesel about 18 miles...and that's with a few tons of sand, cement and block. Counting the weight of the truck, I move 7 to 10 thousand lbs. When I get to the job site I stop at the nearest stop 'n rob and spend $5.00 on a sandwich and a x-lg. coffee. My biz partner spends 8 to 10 dollars in the same place on a couple of big bottles of designer water and a few pieces of fruit. Think of that! I can move tens of thousands of lbs many miles for less than the cost of lunch.
Fuel is still relatively cheap, it's just not as cheap as it was. What gripes me most is that billions of our oil dollars leave this country for places where the people hate us and wish us harm. By using our own untapped oil, that money could stay here and be reinvested to provide good jobs at livable wages.

In a little segue: I'll bet most people don't know that the US, under contract, provides a good share of our own oil to other countries. Japan for instance draws much of the North Slope oil. We send them our oil and then turn around and give the mid-east billions to replace it. Weird!

It seems to me that the pseudo-green pond-scum who attempt to change our way of life to some socialist model by destroying our energy independence are as much our enemies as the creeps who blow things up.
As I said elsewhere in this section, "We can't compete this way!"

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Say:

DRILL - DRILL - DRILL

Get:

ELECTED - ELECTED - ELECTED

The analysis between the $5.00 cost of diesel and the ham sandwich is interesting but irrelevant. The trucker that transports and puts the morsel of food at the end of my fork has other cost variables needing inclusion to evaluate actual impact; household purchasing power and impact on credit and capital formation (house and mortgage) factors.

Labour Government under Harold Wilson (now Lord Harold Wilson) policy was titled "Austerity"; ergo, work harder and get less but the Plebs did have NHS with refusals and long waiting lines even with a raging toothache.

OIL
What about the oil found under the rocky mountains in Colorado ? claim it contains more oil than the middle east , Oil sands ? there is geothermal energy availiabke to extract it.
Our problem is not with oil, it is with the proliferation of Slimeballs which go under the guise of enviromentalists and elected officials, put the illegals to work getting the oil and building refineries for Mexican wages , if they do not want to work ship them out !Comment , Vote out the incumbentents

oil burgers
One of the world's wealth gurus sez the peak world production of 85 million barrels of crude chasing a 90 million barrel world habit is the sole cause of the rise in energy costs. It's worth mentioning that the US could be making up and/or reducing this peak need had we been allowed to bring new and proven energy sources on line in a timely manner.
Incidentally, the relevance of fuel/food prices I mentioned last post is only that of the humor I see in people whining about the high cost of gas while sipping 5 dollar tall boys of faux 'power water' and munching Cordon Bleu priced gut bombs at their local gas 'n go.
Long weekends s-uck. My wife and I managed to mall-trawl twice as much dinero as we made last week. Maybe I could hit up Harrison Ford for a few bucks now that he's plush again. Prolly not!
Roger 'n out.

$5 Oil
The problem with the neocons is the believe their own myths. No oil company and Bush wants conservation of petroleum products--bad for oil business. Why don't we do like Brazil is doing. Don't sell our oil overseas. Pruhdoe Bay would still be feeding us not oil company profits from overseas sales. Sam

They just don't seem to get it.
There is nothing wrong with conservation. Who cares what the price of gas is? I hope it goes up to 20 bucks a gallon. That'll light the fire of the big shift coming to our economy.
Nuclear power is on its way back as well as all of the Greener alternatives.
When our country is energy independent then we can start thinking about drilling our own best resources. Until then, enjoy your gas guzzlers. There is a new way of thinking going on thanks to these prices and I'm all for it.
Yes humans are directly causing global warming and I say full steam ahead. Warm is good in my book.
A neo-con is the person that stands outside in the dead of winter and says "What happened to all that global warming?" They are just trying to be funny.
Judging by the amount of "Staycations" observed on this holiday weekend I'd have to conclude that net carbon emmisions are on a downward trend for the USA.
What the heck is that about?
Come on people we have to heat this thing up.
Does even that cost to much now?

How this solves Illegal migrant workers.
As some of you may know.
I am a former migrant worker.
I worked in some of the toughest fields with some of the best they had to offer.
They all drive a lot.
They have to.
It's part of migrating.
What's wrong with charging full price?
Their daily commute goes through states at a time.
It involves showing up for a hardworking piece-rate job that's 3200 miles away. It was always fun to be there on time and watching the eeeelegals whine about the price of gas.(Semi drivers are excluded, they sit in their fancy cabs and whine louder than any known species.)

This solution works better than a wall. It also requires less maintenence at our expense.
It provides more profit for our "speculators".
Maybe someone should form a committee that investigates illegal immigrants that don't buy hybrid vehicles. This should be a basic requirement to get their GREEN card.
Then and only then will we mine shale.

About the Dems preventing us
One problem : the Republicans held the the Congress for the last 12 of 14 years and the Oval Office for the last 8 years. Where the h---
were they. I think both parties are in cahoots with the Saudies to keep the supply scarce and the price up.

The problem is political corruption
Give me a break. The problem is bipartisan. It is our corrupt political system. Oil execs have bought and paid for our government's "hands off" policy. The best way to fix it is to create government competition, like the US Mail service has kept overnight delivery of packages to a reasonable cost. And FedEx and UPS have survived it quite well.

The US should establish government-owned drilling in the deep gulf and compete with the OPEC conspiracy.

See http://tinyurl.com/yr2vfd

The Problem is Ignorance!
jlohman,

What planet have you been living on? You can't reference a single instance where government is more efficient than private enterprise in running anything! To improve U.S. postal efficiency that agency reorganized years ago to follow a private enterprise model, yet it still can't compete with electronic mail today.

Congress has investigated the Oil Industry on numerous occasions, but no evidence of price gouging by the producers has ever been found! Oil company profits average 8% of costs, thats hardly obsceen by any standard! Most investors wouldn't own a stock that dosn't return 8% annually, and you wouldn't want it in your 401K either.

Zell Miller, a life long Democrat was asked why he supported drilling in ANWAR, and he replyed, "because I've been to ANWAR, and you have to take a dog sled to get there! No body is going to be vacationing in that part of the country anytime in the future!"

The sad truth is the Democrat party has been compromised in it's duty to defend the interests of the country by the environmentalist movement that would prefer to see us all return to an 18 century standard of living!

Follow the money!
Oh come on, Gunner. Private Medicare Advantage plans cost taxpayers 15% more than traditional Medicare. Problem is, private insurers can give campaign contributions and government entities like Medicare can't. That's why the politicians want to kill public Medicare and keep the privates.

And don't be silly. NOBODY can compete with electronic mail, not even UPS or FedEx. And while we're at it, why haven't they put the mail service out of business if they are so damned good? Why are we spending ten times more than we spend on our own troops just so we can contract with Haliburton, Bechtel and Blackwater? Follow the money!

Congress has "investigated" the oil industry? With kid gloves they have. They go through the motions of a hearing without even putting the executives under oath. I like it!

I agree with Zell Miller, but don't blame it only on the Dems. The R's have controlled congress since 1994 and the Whitehouse since 2000. Ask Dick Cheney how the favors to the energy companies go (not that he'll tell you).

Drilling for Oil
I had a guy tell me a few days ago that we should have drilled for oil ten years ago so we wouldn't have this problem today. However, since we didn't drill then, we shouldn't drill now because it might mess up some area of the United States. We would just have to live with the need to get oil from somewhere else.

Want to guess his politics?

Re: Follow the Money
jlohman

The reason private medicare costs more is because service providers have learned to bill your expenses plus the cost of servicing two other uninsured patients to boot! Not all insurance will pay these inflated charges, but some will, and that runs up the cost for everyone. I recently had a medical bill submitted to BCBS where the provider billed almost $200 for Lab fees, but BCBS dropped the charges to $30 total as prenegotiated rates.
I've also seen hospital admiinistrators request income information in addition to insurance verification, what do you suppose they want that for?

I have a good friend who worked for the Chicago Post Office more than twenty years ago; he was concerned then about the potential loss of revenue expected from the growth of Email! Still they never found a solution, private enterprise couldn't operate that way and expect to survive!

I don't care if the Congress grills Oil Execs all day long; I't take the heat too if I was drawing their salaries! But fact is all those condescending Dems doing the grilling are looking for cover from the wrath of their own constituants who they assume are too stupid (maybe a good assumption) to understand it's Congress who is really to blame for this mess!

Not quite....
Gunner, what you say is true about private health care, but not about "Private Medicare." They are paid a flat rate "per person," called capitation. Cost shifting does not play a role here. I've written about this extensively here: http://moneyedpoliticians.wordpress.com/issues/

And as one who voted for George Bush twice (though now regrettably), let me say that your anti-dem bias is unfair. The R's called the oil execs before congress two years ago with the same kid gloves the D's are wearing today. At least the D's have set in motion anti-trust investigation to see if price fixing is going on. We'll see where that goes.

Re: Not Quite
jlohman,

If you've had opportunity to visit China you may know hotels there, many are world class, charge lower rates to Chinese citizens than foreign travelers. In China this is justified within their Communist system; in the U.S. this practice has become part of our healthcare system.

I also voted twice for Bush, and although disappointed I don't regret not having Gore or Kerry in his place! The biggest problem faced by our Republic, in my opinion, is partisan politics. Upon leaving the office of POUS George Washington warned his contemporaries to "beware of becoming party men"! In hindsight his observation was prophetic.

Republicans arn't without fault, but in this instance it's the Dems who are putting on the dog & pony show with the oil industry! Just like in the time of Niro, our Congress fiddles while Rome burns.

Anyway, it's been nice sparing with you!

Gunner

McCullough: give us national socialis
McCullough, like other national socialist, wants daddy government to help him out with cheep gas.

That's cause he is incensed at the idea that he should pay the same for a gallon of gas as everyone else in the world.

I have a radical idea, why not let the free market solve this problem. You would be surprised what $20 a gallon gas will do to spur innovation and lazy people like McCullough to find ways to be more efficient both in the use of their energy consumption and of their pocket book expenditures.

It's not gas prices which are the enemy of Americans, it's right wing culture of entitlement politics which has raised a generation so disconnected from the realities of the global marketplace, that when uncle Sam ran out of ice cream, they started screaming like they did when their parents wouldn't buy them toys at Wal-Mart.

It would only take one
If the Tree Huggers would get their heads out of their behinds and allow one company to drill and refine more US oil, Arabs would give it up, they are not stupid and know that the USA holds the purse strings! The USA uses more Oil than most countries in the world put together.

Demand Decreasing
We see a 4.3 percent decrease in gasoline use from March 2008 over March 2007, in the U.S.

We will see even more decline in consumption as more hybrid vehicles hit the road, especially plug-in hybrids that achieve 150 miles per gallon or more.

Check out http://www.AFSTrinity.com for details.

It is very true that high prices provide more alternatives. High gasoline prices have finally provided more alternatives such as plug-in hybrids.

The solution is not to drill for more oil in the U.S. Drilling for more oil is very much like requiring whalers to breed more whales and build faster ships to kill them, back in the whale oil days.

Instead, when whale oil got too scarce and thus too expensive, smart guys found oil, then built refineries to convert it to kerosene. The whale oil lamps ran just fine on kerosene.

The Blame Game
What it all means is that Kevin has done very little research into the issue and places the reason on a single political entity even though neither side has taken action to get us off oil imports. His blinder limited view doesn't allow him to see that oil supplies are limited in this world and countries that don't look for alternatives are headed fro drastic times in the not too distant future. What he has posted is one of the many blame the Liberals for the existing problems that comes out every election year.

Preposterous piece by McCullough
This is one of the most ridiculous posts I’ve ever seen. Blaming liberals for the increase in gas prices is absolutely absurd. Nice try, but only the weakest of minds would believe that. Republicans had Congress for twelve years and have had the White House for six years, so they could have done anything they wanted to do. Clearly, investing in alternative energy sources was not one of these. As for the increase in the price of oil: the price would decrease if production increased. Why hasn’t the current president “jaw-boned” OPEC as he said he would in 2000? Obviously the Saudis are not willing to help us, but what about Iraqi oil? Why is production there not increasing? Simple reason: the oil companies controlling the Iraqi oil fields there benefit from cutting off the supply. If you need a scapegoat, blame oil man Bush and Halliburton man Cheney with his (still) secret Energy Commission. Have the oil company representatives testify before Congress again, this time under oath.

How RINOS Stopped ANWR in 2005
when the DC controlled BOTH Houses of Congress...

http://www.theledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/2005111 0/NEWS/511100399/1134

Here's the real story of why ANWR never got passed by the GOP which was in control of both Houses of Congress in 2005. Blaming this exclusively on the ridiculous DEMS is distorting the truth. Once again 25 House RINOS including Florida's own Kathleen Harris and RINOS in the Senate like Mel Martinez shut it down. Spineless, Hapless Hastert caved to the RINOS in his own Politically Correct party because the GOP has been all about winning elections and abandoning its own principles. He never even brought it up for a vote; how politically clueless is this party??? He could have made political hay out of this in 2006 and preserved his party's integrity and hung this one on the DEMS but he never even took the chance of bringing it to a vote. ALso, if he had brought it to a vote, the AMERICAN PEOPLE could have seen firsthand how their local Congressman or Senator was shafting them and the nation and vote the RINO out in the next election. This is political daftness of the highest order.
