Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Liberally oriented newspaper editors increasingly wonder why subscription and circulation numbers continue to plummet among the old guard of news media: the printed page.

What are they, the dumbest people on earth?

Why would any population of any nation that has the slightest modicum of freedom choose to subject itself to the onset of treasonous and vapid judgment with which these editors seem so well endowed?

Maybe these editors are bored by the slow news cycle that is the month of August, maybe they fell asleep while sitting at their desk playing sudoku, maybe their consensual sex partners broke pieces of china over their noggins, or worst of all maybe their viewpoint of the American people is so low that they think we won't notice. Whatever the case editors at the New York Times, The Philadelphia Daily News, and The Washington Post deserve not merely ridicule but complete isolation from American civilization for the treachery they promoted this week.

Playing fast and loose with the idea of terror visiting our shores, ripping American lives and bodies apart, polling the bottom feeding trolls to suggest how attacks should be planned, and pure mockery of what real American heroism looks like in the face of such danger - should earn not just the scorn of the American public, but the economic ruin that comes from readers and subscribers walking away.

Steven D. Levitt, the New York Times' self-named "freak" lived out his titillating fantasies this week by asking readers to comment on his blog's publicly accessible comment section to give great detail about how they would carry out a terrorist attack. He even included parameters such as if you were limited with financial resources and how the best plan of escape could be hatched. He even supplied the first example and then said he would "love" to hear from his readers, whom he was sure had "far better ideas." Mindful this is being brought to you by the same "news service" that has taken great delight in exposing some of our most effective tools against terrorists like tapping their use of cell phones, and revealing how we had been freezing their financing. The week previous due to financial constraints the Times had been required to reduce its page size. The "freak" also attempted to justify his postulation of the discussion by citing fewer terrorists would read the column than say patriots.

How many terrorists need to read the column to take action on its ideas?

19 or so?

"Freak" indeed!

Right down the New Jersey Turnpike the next morning Stu Bykofsky was able to convince his editors at the Philadelphia Daily News to run the headline: "To Save America, we need another 9/11." Sort of the "blow Americans apart so that we can sew ourselves back together" concept. Bykofsky then completely over romanticized the supposed unity that the nation had in the fall of 2001. By being attacked again he presupposed, then that short lived unity would return. His summation was, "let it be!"

Bykofsky also left out the fact that liberals like Senator Ted Kennedy had trouble even calling terrorists by their name. On September 24, 2001 Kennedy referred to them merely as criminals. Not surprising given the fact his father Joe Kennedy even opposed President Franklin Roosevelt in his efforts to stop the Nazi march of Adolph Hitler.

Bykofsky wrongly asserts that the American peoples' reaction to such an attack would be outrage at the perpetrators. What would actually happen would be more along the lines of liberals blaming the Bush administration for inciting the terror attacks for such actions as staying on offense in snagging and entangling the terrorists on the battlefield. A tactic that to date has worked exceedingly well.

On the same day that Levitt "the freak" published his how-to manifesto, the Washington Post editors decided to run this Tom Toles cartoon.

Reducing the sacrifice of family members lost due to their own bravery and courage and equating it to the selfishness of demanding that "you" be exempt from the scheduling troubles of air-travel is nauseating.

Those scheduling troubles we might add are occurring in large part because of the financial hit the airline industry incurred because of September 11, 2001, and the restructuring the industry has had to do from the ground up in response.

The judgment of Levitt, Bykofsky, and Toles is obviously amiss. And whether they underestimate the true threat of terror in modern day life, or they have an untruthful romanticizing of the American left's supposed support of the right and propriety to defend ourselves is really irrelevant. Editors have the power to stop such intellectual trash from ever seeing the light of day.

And if they continue to allow suggestions of invitation to our enemies to spill more American blood and carnage in American streets?

Well... the best they can hope for is that they will be rewarded with safe haven for their deeds of loyalty by those seeking the creation of the Islamic States of America.

Building 7
Something that troubles me about the events of 9-11. Building 7 came down later that day in a series of controlled demolitions. No one questions that and it is part of the record that the orders were given to "pull it" (down).

But my question is this. You can see videos of this building on fire. WHO, pray tell, went into that building on Sept. 11 and rigged all those charges while the building was on fire? Would you go into a burning building to set up demolition charges?

So if not, then exactly WHEN were those charges place in the building to be ready to drop it like a bad habit?

And this resulted in the owner getting $100 million in insurance payouts?

It just sounds kinda hinkey to me.

Tell it to the Indians....
Ahhhhhhhh.....right wingers. So predictable. Give them anything at all that questions this country being the most moral and greatest on earth and they immediately run to their little box of insults, perjoratives, ad hominum attacks and verbal pomposity, all the while waving their flags furiously.

History has shown that our government officials -- both Demoncratic and Peerublican -- have issued false statements in order to get us involved in wars which were basically none of our business. From Clinton starting wars to cover his worthless hide, to LBJ ramping up Vietnam with the Gulf of Tonkin incident (an incident which has been proven completely false), to the Bushies invading the Middle East on a pretext, we are on a war footing economy now.

What, kind sirs, do you think would happen to our economy if we had a prolonged period of peace, not only with our troops, but in the world? How would the world's largest supplyers of war materials, guns, bombs, ordinace, etc. manage to keep the doors open and the profits up if all the orders for tanks, guns, bombs, and planes were not placed next year?

You sick puppies keep it up. Keep beating those war drums on behalf of the factories. This war was not about terror, it was about profits (although now that we have managed to tick off most of the Middle East, it has become about terror. Some people don't take too kindly to being pushed around and don't have the Christian view of "turn the other cheek" when bullied).

How many more nations do we have to invade before the lust for profits is satiated? We are being destroyed as a nation by profiteers who care nothing for you nor I, but only about the bottom line, and you, sirs, have the nerve to defend them?

Geeeeez, get a real life, will ya?

IrishEddie is a moron
Just ready to believe some nutjob soap-opera bullcrap instead of the reality staring him in the face.

Grow up Eddie, this is real life not X Files.

For all those who support our government
You know, one thing that you should really be asking yourselves is this "Why do so many people actually believe that our government was involved with 9-11?"

The answer is not that we are un-American or desire our country to fall, but rather that in looking at the last 100 years of history, we see that over and over again, we have been LIED TO by government officials who have been found out to ultimately have been nothing more than the puppets of big businessmen who are the real power in Washington.

War is good business. I dare you to say that this is not so when the top 10 companies in our country are all making war supplies like there is no tomorrow! We have to have someone to fight -- an enemy -- to justify going to war so that the factories will continue to roll.

I am not against a standing army for defensive purposes, but if you look at the last 100 years, it has been America going out and meddling in the affairs of other countries. When are you warhawks going to wake up and realize that a continuous statewar is not a desirable condition for our world, no matter how rich it makes us.

Primus -- answer the questions!
You are really good at calling people names, however, ad hominum attacks and the use of perjorative does not win debates.

Now, sir, answer the 40 questions which have been posed to you. In fact, just one will sufficiently do....

Why did the towers collapse when it takes 2700 degrees of heat to melt steel? And, as a bonus question, tell me why other such fires in towers around the world have NEVER resulted in the destruction of the entire tower.

Yes, I love how conservatives ramp up their "blow hard" genes when confronted with questions that embarrass them.

And BTW -- I am not a liberal or a "kook". I am someone who would appreciate a little TRUTH from our government for a change. You see, my man, if we had truth, there would be no opportunity for all these questions that make you warhawks and blind Bush supporters so uneasy

Now, how about YOU answer the questions!!

Concerning ways for terrorists
to hit us again, liberals can always dream can't they?

Geez give us a break will you. You can rant and rave all you want but none of your cockeyed theories about 9/11 are ever going to get proven. Why don't you guys see if we ever landed on the moon? (Wondering if both of you are actually from there)

Big BD
Doesn't everyone obey the law?

Don't they know going to another state and buying guns is illegal?

My point was
Going after the criminals should be the focus, there are too many laws on the books not being enforced. How often do you hear about a shooting at a bar? How often do you hear about the shooter being punished? ( almost every state makes simple possession of a firearm in a bar a felony)

Get all the laws currently on the books enforced, then talk about new laws.
We have national gun control already - Gun Control Act of 1968.

Thugs like McUllough like to talk tough about liberals as though our our empathy for our fellow man makes weak.
But guess what, we aren't.
Bush's response to 9-11 has been sustained incompetance. If anything invites a terrorist attack it is the government's response to Katrina. It beautifully showed that Bush has made no plans whatsoever to deal with a major attack. There obviously was no infastructure for mass evacuations and treating hundreds of wounded.

The best way to prepare for an attack is to prevent it and the best way to do that is show resolve which is something you libs are lacking.

What did Clinton do after the 1st attack on the WTC he sent a goon squad down to Waco TX to kill some Christians just like he did in Bosnia. Some response. If you want the President to solve all of your problems then give him the power to do so. You can't assign responsibility without authority and expect results. For the record GWB contacted that idiot Gov Blanko offering federal assistance numerous times only to be rebuffed. When that sewer known as New Orleans found itself under water that incompotent hag and Roy Nagan aka Willie Wanka mayor of "chocolate city" had the nerve to blame the President. Well the people in LA know who was at fault and MS Blanko won't be Gov for long. Say what you wish but that sustained incompotence has kept your rear safe for almost 6 years whether you want to admit it or not. While Owl Snore has been running all over the world whining about global warming GWB has been doing what he could to protect your right to gripe on Town Hall dot com!

Robert that

A few questions for Tanabear
Just curious, Tanabear: can you explain precisely how the government conspiriacy to take down the WTC might have been orchestrated? Who directed it? Which agencies were involved? Roughly how many people? How would the government keep it under wraps?

Inquiring minds would like to know.

Folks
Adios and have a great week! Be well

*SIGH* Nothing ruins a good double entendre like explaining it.

Tanabear writes;

I have been aware of the NIST FAQ since it came out last year. In no way, do they satisfactorily answer the question, "how did the buildings collapse?" In fact, they say so in their FAQ and in their Final Report.

-"performed laboratory tests and sophisticated computer simulations of the sequence of events that occurred from the moment the aircraft struck the towers until they began to collapse."

-"DOES NOT ACTUALLY INCLUDE THE STRUCTURAL BEHAVIOR of the TOWER AFTER THE CONDITIONS for COLLAPSE INITIATION WERE REACHED." NIST 2005.

Etc., etc. would have put more but comments limited to 2,000 characters.

Now thats annoying, isn't it? Because you know what you wrote, just like I know what I wrote, and I can look up what others wrote, [and if anyone wants to know let them scroll back and see]. If you feel it's some unsolved mystery, you must have some idea?

I realize that its an exercise in futility because no matter what I bring up, what evidence I bring up, it will never ever convince you. I've been down this road before on this and other topics [the 2000 and 2004 Bush elections, for one thing], there is never enough to convince you, no matter what.

tanabear
I didn't say that Bush did it. I've stated the 9/11 is the greatest unsolved mystery in world history. There is very little evidence for any of the governments claims.
Tanabear it isnt a government claim its what everybody saw. You act as though that incident happened on a cold and dreary night in a deep dark alley and the only witnesses are a couple of dubious government agents.
My experiments were only intended to show you that concrete exposed to heat and impact will fail.
In no way would I expect all, most,or much of the material in the trade center to show signs of heat damage. It does seem reasonable that if as was done the support for the top couple of floors were removed as it was that day you would have poised over the rest of the building a very large sledge hammer with nowhere to go but down.
I dont think it leads to much mystery at all.

tanabear
"I didn't say that Bush did it. I've stated the 9/11 is the greatest unsolved mystery in world history. There is very little evidence for any of the governments claims."

I just can not belive that the far left really thinks that country has moved that far of center to put up with this trash. I hope I am whitnessing the final fall of the MSM PRINT and that the rest will follow soon. Air Am. went into bankruptcy twice. People didn't tune in.

The NYTimnes has laid off over 500 people in the last two years, can't sell enough ads to support it, cut its format by 2 inches, and is undergoing a stockholder revolt (the price is in the pits). So, the answer seems to be they hire some idiot to post how jihadists can more effectively aettack the US again on their web service. And they wonder where their readers are?

The LA Times is bankrupt. They fire people daily.

The Chicago Tribune was just sold.

No one is watching Katie on CBS News, once the greaterst broadcast news organization in the world.

Cheers to you as well, Cliff.

tannabear
hey if you got one take a propane torch (a small one you can buy at any hardware store for less then 20 bucks) outside and hold it close to a piece of concrete (like say a curb or sidewalk) hold the blue flame about 2 inches from the surface of the concrete for about 5 minutes. Oh yeah I suggest you wear some sort of eye protection because the concrete is going to...well dont take my word for it just do it and see what happens. next experiment get a 8 pound sledge hammer and smack it against same said concrete anything happen?
If you do these experiments and absolutely nothing happens to the concrete then you could possibly maybe have something.

Also they were cutting steel for three months seems ample time for a government agencie to finish up any test or take any sample they wanted to

Tannabear anyway try the experiments and see for yourself what happens when you apply heat and pressure to cured concrete.

no state of preparedness
Medicare fraud was about 70 million dollars a day by 1999, Congress stepped in to tighten the controls, but it still is occurring. Why should we take a broken system and expand on it? It's obvious the national government cannot control corruption of even the most basic of it's entitlement programs, and I don't believe doctors or hospitals would take a pay cut either. The billing fraud would be enormous.

I think we should take a portion of that estimated budget and support free clinics, and provide vouchers or some such for in patient care for indigents if necessary, but don't take away our hard worked for private insurance. Sure the government (at state levels) should dump money into programs for ensuring that uninsured recieve care, but each state has different needs, such as why we have separate state governments in the first place. This cannot be a national concern. I don't want to pay for a California tummy tuck, nor do I need someone in NY paying for my heat stroke here in deep S Texas.

National programs to 'spread things evenly' do not work. Try to spread peanut butter on bread, even though the top looks smooth and even, the holes throughout the bread are filled in so that some places recieve more than others. Congress is like the bread, and politicians will create bigger holes just to get more of the spread, until that bread is ripped apart.

state of unpreparedness
militant,

I understand the risks we have for any outbreak, whether man-made or not. TB is on the rise again, as well as a number of previously contained diseases. My wife is a nurse teacher/BSN, so I always hear of the latest bulletins and releases by the CDC and the organizations she is affiliated with because of her work. I am appalled at the lack of control we have, on many security and social levels.

I also see the weekend free clinics that her hospital and school put on for the community, and how, in droves, people line up for these services, no matter how few they may be. But that brings up the thought, what exactly would happen if private hospitals, which are at near capacity anyway, have the floodgates opened by a national health care program? I'm not advocating exclusionary health care, just that a system of government control isn't the answer, either. It would make those institutions even less prepared than now, and the tax money spend on such programs would be like pouring water down the sewer.

Our Hospital problem is caused in great part by our open Southern Border.

That is also where drug resistent forms of tuberculosis are entering America from right now.

Several hospitals near the border have closed because they went broke caring for patients who did not pay.
The flood of non paying illegals is a big part of driving up the cost of medical care in America.

America is very vulnerable to attack.

there you go mate. I think that the post about preparedness covers ground that is beyond the political pale. Except to say .... this is what government is supposed to do, the very form of existance that most 'liberal people tout' government. Yup ... for all the big government money poured into New Orleans to correct the mounting problems that were to be handled by local government, the money evaporated.

Really, these are questions looking for answers. They still haven't been answered.

You don't suppose that it has something to do with the basic nature of people, do you?

Hal ..
asked the question about the Soviets as that is an example of people who assume they are able to micro manage every aspect of every one elses life.
I am not a worshipper of business men nor do I see them as the Devil incarnate; although, in alliance with government they well may be.
You really couldn't take it to court on the idea that the meaning is clear to most. Hillary feels that she is qualified to determine what level of profit the oil companies should recieve.
Not long ago when oil took a precipitous drop, the comapnies engaged in pendion funding had apoplexy as they were heavily invested in the oil futures market and were heavily dependant on a rising gradient per $$ invested.
How would she explain to all her fans of the boomer generation that to create a 'level playing field' she just taxed away the return that formely was anticipated to contribute for pension funds, to fund her particular vision of 'leveling the playing field'.
I don't think that a 'just society' another one of those strings that is loaded; just looks the other way; but because we appear to diregard tradition and respond to conditions with hubris, reinventing morality at every turn, I am afraid that we are less than adequate to truly address the requirements of the life.
That is why I don't believe the 'D' or 'R' people are qualified to make the assertions that they do.
I like the ideas of ...
Term Limits ...
Valid currency ...
Flat Tax ...
Pay as you go .... that could use some qualification and therein lies the opening to corruption.
Basic government that doesn't require 'self proclaimed specialists' to operate.
Thanx for the answer ...

It wasn't meant to be funny
My father was a epidemiologists and you ought to talk to one if you think we are prepared for the outbreak of deadly highly contagious disease whether it be man made or natural.

I am shocked at how unprepared our country is. I mean if there is a real danger of a major terrorist event than why aren't we training for mass evacuations or quarantines in the case of disease.

Why are hospitals allowed to run at near capacity so that they would be overwhelmed by something as small as suicide bombing in a night club?

Why isn't there some system for setting up mobile hospitals and flying in surgeons?

Why do we have vice president with serious heart problems. What would happen if Bush were killed in a terrorist attack and upon hearing the news, Cheney suffered another heart attack and slipped into a coma. Who would run the country in those crucial hours after the attack, and who would take advantage of the chaos to do something like say invade Taiwan?

despite all the talk about security, I don't see much I am impressed with from either party.

You mean that thing with the rice barge did not happen?

I read where he fired on a rice barge that was too close then instead of taking cover he turned his butt toward the blast and was hit in the butt with a few grains of rice.

This column is but one I have read in the past weeks, from varying sources, bewailing the loss of readership both online and print for these particular papers. The argument that people are going online to read these papers is wrong, last week NYT also decided to quit charging subscrition for it's online paper, to try to get readership up there, too. Gotta keep those advertisers happy!

When are treasonous words considered 'freedom of speech'? When it is veiled in 'professional and responsible' journalism? When, under the guise of patriotism, they are allowed to commit arson against the flag? When, under cute words and semi-lucid judgements we are allowed to kill our unborn children and our elderly parents? Why is it that you give Bush such hateful criticism, and yet so smug about the deaths of thousands of unborn babies each year? Where is your honor or virtue, leftists? Oh that's right, you can't see it or touch it, so you don't believe in things like that.

Our Constition defends freedom of speech, but there are clear definitions of what that means. Anything that does not incite riot or harm, or advocate violence toward another.

This works both ways, for those who speak of pre-emptive wars, and for those who suggest means by which to next attack this nation. I read your suggestion, militant leftist, your little piece about a virus was not funny in the least, it was a good example of the evil thoughts you have.

the real purpose of weapons is to keep Joe Biden on the outside of my door. No one advocates their use for settleing relational disputes.
There are a few things that will stick with me even as I move into senility. The baltant betrayal of the Cuban prople at the Bay of Pigs.
The betrayal of our guys during and after Vietnam. Ruby Ridge, Waco and the Elian Gonzales abduction. So I don't buy into the idea that the government is my friend. People with real marketable talent usually get real marketable jobs.
Secondly, for all the gun control the only people who are disarmed are the foolish citizens. I've heard all the theories that complete control can only be realized over a period of time, silly chatter by people whose only power rests in the fear and envy and thoughtlessness of the electorate.
Do you recall the farmer who plugged the bad guys in Britain while protecting his home. I think that he is still in stir .... what is the true initiating reason for the action against that man and many others?

Your obvious attempt of subterfuge proves beyond doubt that you also believe Kerry faked his own war wounds out of cowardice so they would send him out of the combat zone.

If you delude yourself that you are drawing attention away from Kerry's cowardice and treason you are wrong. You are keeping it alive.

The NRA erotic dream about civilian arms defending the country is just that leading to spent effort. Every revolution/uprising I ever heard of started with stealing or making weapons and developed from there. It provides small unit training and tactics development. The NRA is kind of interesting. I now ask everyone going to NRA events to ask how many military or military veterans are in the audience - the answer is always very few. I suspect the rank and file member number is vet heavy but I doubt the NRA active number is... Make of that what you like just an observation....

But if I were a teenager, did I mention that my room mate was carjacked by 12 year olds with 9 mms, full of meth, I don't know what I would do. Your NRA sticker makes me want try someone else. But the voices in my head say don't worry.

Oh, yeah I love how conservatives who are so much against registrations of guns are often members of the NRA. If I were a tyrant I would just go to the NRA take the membership roles and round everybody up. Even if you thought this through, I bet your idiot friend hasn't and will only be so happy to sell you out after a little water boarding.

Going to the ultimate end and confiscating ALL firearms from civilians, do you think it would make you any safer than it made the people in Australia, or England or where it was tried in Canada?

Crime escallates out of proportion in every instance where honest citizens are disarmed.
It is a simple law of NATURE!
Where easy prey is abundant, predators will gather and multiply.

Your honest citizen is the only one who will obey the law to turn in his gun and the honest citizen is not doing the crimes or Driveby shootings.

As to you waiting in the parking lot to "Hot Kidnap" for the purpose of home invasion;
Would you pick someone's car with an NRA bumper sticker who may not think your finger will contract until after a .45 bullet knocks you off target?

First you feel the 'D' party is better qualified to handle the 'problem than the 'R' people; and as people have been raised to anticipate some nature of political activism in every aspect of their lives, I guess it is a fight for control. I wonder if you believe that if the 'D' people had been in control of the Soviet Union that history would have been different?
My personal thought is unrealistic in light of the leanings of people, regardless of how much they protest otherwise, is that neither the 'R' people not the 'D' people are qualified to intercess in virtually any direction in anyones business affairs.
We both realize that government agencies materialized to minister to a particular need, the problem is that they surpass the original dedicated pupose to serve the particular percieved requirements of the moment often having nothing to do with the original mandate.
If I remember history, congress violated its constitutional limits in allowing the creation of all nature of agencies which are legislative and administrative agencies unto themselves.
We see this in activist courts and fast track trade agreements. So if this is to be the nature of things, it would probably be a bold step forward to eliminate the congress, God only knows the untold savings in $$$ and imagine what it might be like to be free of listening to people who don't mean a thing they say anyway.

NIST(National Institute for Standards and Technology) examined some of the steel to see how hot it got.

the key word for me is some

Only two core column
specimens had sufficient paint remaining to make such an analysis

The key word is sufficient paint remaining, I wonder where the paint went to that they only had limited amount to make heat analysis.

Tanabear what you rebuted with in no way refutes the fact that steal does not need to be melted to weaken to the point of failure. Nor does your rebutal negate the fact that steel melted in the trade towers. As for fires not wrecking steel. Why its only one of the greatest dangers on a Naval vessel which is made of.......steel. You can get heats hot enough to melt steal in a small house fire your going to tell me that with all the fuel and the layout of the world trade center that you wouldnt get fires hot enough to if not melt steal then to at least structually weaken it..........If you do I aint buyin it and I dont care whos acronym you place in front of or behind your name.

Tanabear
Did I ask you to repeat yourself?

You clearly have reading comprehension skills. My question was how your behavior would be any different... not what you claim you'd do if in a position of political power.

And here I am engaging you again... after my 2007 New Year's resolution to never argue with fools who a) are Jew haters, or b) believe in kook idiotic 9/11 conspiracy theories.

A double reason in your case... my error.

I never said I was a gun expert
My parents had small arsenal, enough to see our extended war. I enjoyed shooting with dad, though I was not very good.

I took an excellent gun safety course run by the NRA. It was embarrassing because the girls were much better shots than the boys.

Living in New Orleans I got sick of reading about kids being killed by random gunfire. I knew one person who was new to New Orleans. She signed lease on what appeared to be a nice apartment in the day. It was unfortunately a much different story at night.

Their apartment got sprayed with bullets twice.

She couldn't get out of her lease and couldn't afford to move. So she and her children only came to the apartment to sleep, which they did huddled on the floor to present the smallest possible profile.

Guns don't make you bullet proof. The bad guys don't call you out and say draw!

If I was going to home invade your house. I would wait in the high school parking lot and come up behind your child's back and stuff a gun in his or her ear.

You would of course realize that one the reflex reactions to catastrophic central nervous system damage is muscle contraction. So even if you managed to shoot me in the head, your child would die.

So what do you do. Do you sacrifice your daughter for the rest of the family, or do you disarm and hope that I don't kill you anyway.

Hal

I hate to spoil your delusion but if you will study the examples of revolution you will see that is exactly how Communists have come to power in each instance.

As to the military quickly putting down rebellion?
Often, like in Russia, it is the military that is leading a rebellion.

I am pleased you admit we are half way to victory in Iraq though.

There
never was a war becouse there never was a direct attack on the U.S. had there been we would surely have used military might against that enemy. Therefor your statment that time, distance and competition is incomplete just as if to say the solution in the war on terror will only be militarily. The last part of that statement is false and is something this President(Bush) has never endorsed. As far as articles about what the Soviets cared about it, There were many competing thoughts as to that. Luckily we got a President who was optimistic enough to push them to the end. As for fax machines and copeirs first they have to be able to get them and secondly they have to have the slightest chance to act upon the information they get. Those who are in Iraq have been given the start of that chance hopefully with perseverance it will take, hold and spread.

I am sorry that I was so subtle. I will spell it out for you in simple languages. Armed civilians would be quickly routed by the armed forces. Even if some in the military joined the rebellion (a common conservative fantasy) The majority will stay with the government out of institutional loyalty if nothing else. The rebels would be swiftly defeated. So the only possible armed resistance would be terrorism. Guns will not protect us from tyranny. They could be used for terrorism. But in reality terrorist insurgencies against domestic armies are almost always defeated. It just takes time, generally minimum of 7 to 10 years.

Like I said enjoy your gun if it gives you good feelings, just don't be delusional bout what it can do for you.

Oh no it does not. I said on TH many times that Korea, Vietnam, etc were battles in a cold war that we won. I was told BS, But I agree with what you said but that doesn't change the fact the there never was a direct war betwwen us ala' the cuban missle crisis.

Please read the articles from back then. Communists don't care about anything blah, blah. What we are facing are criminals ala' the drug cartels or pirates. They are dedicated etc but they cannot destroy the planet or invade a major country. FYI "all they got" for most is not much. That is how we will win again but please do not make a group of power hungry madmen using religion into warriors and heros

The simple fact is per capita we have more gun deaths than some war zones and I think but am not sure far more than any other industrialised nation. My own opinion of most ardent gun owners goes pretty much along the line my wife has about guys with big watches LOL.

I obviously let my mind wonder
The line should have red "A much more practical weapon against tyranny would be an IED, but then what would that make you." But the more I think about it, I like the mistake too.

Like I said it is all accedemic
Democrats have largely given up on gun control the conservatives have won this issue.

But you conservatives seem seriously deluded about the power of a gun.

If knowledge that every one is armed reduces crime than why is gang on gang violence not reduced. Is one gang really thinking that the other is not armed?

I hear this protect from tyranny argument all the time from conservatives. It never ceases to make me laugh. I even heard this argument from a 75 year old lady with a .21 pistol.

For the modern soldier a rifle is just one weapon they use. The training is the most important thing and they train full time. But they also have night vision goggles, predator drones, and of course tanks and missiles.

"You cite "The Cold War" as an example of peace that was won without war.The Cold War was an arms race of assured mutual destruction.
It is the only instance of that nature I know of and it is still waging right now."

The cold war was really against the U.S.S.R. That is over done. It was not just an arms race it was an all out opne society against another war. Remember the practise alerts? Remember the millions and millions of dollars spent on air raid shelters. No it really was our society against theirs it was far from "just an arms race".

"o you know of an instance where permanent peace was purchased like a sack of potatoes?
Maybe Korea for instance or China?"

Peace is never permanent is it? It needs to be monitored enforced and maintained. Korea is an example

"Only victory in war can win a permanent lasting peace."

BS! victory in WWII could not have been more total and it didn't purchase any peace at all. It purchased the end of armed conflict. Nothing more in hindsight.

"Peace is purchased with the lives & blood of America's young men and each war seems to escallate the price."

Never forget our allies who the right seems to want to ignore. For example, the French Barracks went up in Beirut the same day and way as ours did

Among the 9/11 conspiracists, have you ever run across anyone who expressed any suspicion about Sandy Berger's theft of documents from the archives just before the 9/11 Commission hearings? This was way bigger than Watergate and yet it barely raised a blip on the radar screens of the left.

Politicians are much like professional wrestlers in that they are constantly hurling epithets at their "opponents". They then get together afterwards and pat each other on the back and compliment each other on their performances.

Utilizing operatives with no discernable connection to the present administration, would be perfect cover for such a conspiracy.

If 9/11 "truthers" were seriously interested in the truth, the crimes of Sandy Berger would be receiving some careful scrutiny. Instead these conspiracy theories are revealed for what they are; a rather transparent attempt to characterize the crimes of Islamic fundamentalists as the crimes of the neocon boogie men.

Militant Leftist
Your analogy is flawed. Arguing for the right to keep and bear arms is not to say there should be no laws governing firearms. The NRA supports a wide variety of laws having to do with gun ownership and use. Being able to post on sites such as this is one of the freedoms that are in part protected by the citizenships ability to defend itself from tyranny. Not knowing what you are talking about is luckily for you also protected.

Part two;
Police can't prevent crime and Courts have ruled Police have no obligation to protect anyone. Police arrive after the fact and fill out forms. Only someone at the scene, at the time and armed can prevent a crime from happening. Otherwise you pay the price for being a helpless victim.
Home Invaders often rape and torture a family to discover where valuables are located without bothering to search. Care to guess when they are certain they have everything of value and no one is holding something back?

Several States have removed restrictions on private firearms owners and been rewarded with drastic reductions in violent crime, safer streets and neighborhoods.

This proves beyond any doubt that presumptuous anti-gun laws based upon some coward's aversion to firearms actually create criminals by providing easy victims.
The people responsible for anti-gun laws are responsible for every one of the additional crimes that result. They are just as guilty as if they helped to hold a girl who is being raped or pulled the trigger to shoot a store clerk because they increased the number of times such criminal incidents occur. Increased crime raises taxes & insurance rates, escalates inflation and causes fear of crime to permeate our cities.
For today's excessive crime you can blame Gunophobes who disarm honest citizens.

Militant Leftist
This is off topic but I can't resist your invitation.

Just like all predators, criminals tend to gather and prosper wherever easy prey is abundant. Easy human prey was not abundant in America prior to the epidemic of anti-gun laws that disarmed many honest citizens. When men often went armed our parks, highways, city streets and homes were safe.
Your grandmother could safely go for a cool evening stroll, your daughter could sleep safely with a bedroom window open to catch a cool breeze, people left homes unlocked and keys in cars, bank robbery and murder were so rare they made Coast to Coast headline news. Only cowards and criminals feared guns in the hands of honest men.

Today, after 22,000+ anti-gun laws have disarmed only honest citizens we have localities where only criminals own firearms and protecting your home and family is now unlawful. If you left your home unlocked you would be lucky to still have wall paper when you returned. Bank robbery & murder are so common they barely make page 3 of local papers. If your grandmother went for a cool evening stroll you would expect to find her in the city morgue and if your daughter failed to lock a window at night she might get her picture on milk cartons.

If you don't trust the government
Why do you want a government you don't trust to have the power to tap your phones without warrant, to hold you without trail and to torture you?

The reality is that the free market will never provide universal health insurance because someone will always be willing to work without health insurance which will allow employees not to provide to any of its employees.

Health care is really a national security issue. Many more people die from the flu than from terrorist. Studies show that vaccinating children, the perfect vectors for disease, would be much more effective than vaccinating seniors many of whom are to ill to receive the vaccine anyway.

Yet hundreds of thousands of children go without the vaccine because of lack of insurance or high copays and thousands upon thousands of seniors and people with compromised immune systems die.

My plan for terrorism is a very simple exploit of our current health system. I would release a biological agent in Tijuana, no need to deal those pesky minute men.

The disease is spread by legal visitors who take it to largely uninsured Mexican American communities.

The victims who only suffer flu like symptoms at first don't seek medical care. The ones that do go to overworked ERs and wait hours to be seen.

By the time a pattern emerges all hope of containment is lost and hundreds of thousands of Americans die.

Cliff
Like most liberals up on gun control a long time ago. I think we should all walk around with Ak-47s and body armor.

But here's the argument for gun control.

Jill goes home and breaks up with Jack and throws his clothes in the bushes.

Jack goes to his truck and takes out his 9 mm pistol and goes stands in the parking lot across from Jane's house.

Situation 1 gun laws

Police go to the park and arrrest Jack for having a fire arm.

Situation 2 no gun laws
Policeman "Good morning sir what are you doing"
Jack "Bird watching"
Policeman "Why do you have that gun."
Jack "To protect me from socialized medicine."
Policeman "OK well you have a good day now."

Policeman to Jill "There's nothing we can do until you get a restraining order. But give us a call when the bullets start flying."

I can't beleive it
Rosie O'Donnell in Tannabear and Irish whatever clothes

"2. How did those towers come down when steel requires 2700 degrees of heat to melt? Jet fuel burning gets nowhere close to that."

Yes, and the jet fuel would have burned up relatively quickly. After that the fires would have just been burning office content. Plus, there was no plane that hit WTC7, so it could not have been jet fuel fires in that case. The obvious answer is explosive charges.

The steel did not and does not need to melt. It loses structural strength at a lower point than that. Watch the evening news. Soon or later you'll see a gas truck burning under an overpass. The overpass collapses.

End of lesson.

just doesn't realize that FEMA is NOT the primary rescuer, the city mayor and state governor is. Jeb Bush and Florida have no problem. The money from FEMA is lagging, though, just as the money for the border fence seems non-existent.. 600,000 sq miles[exaggeration?] of mud kinda messed FEMA up in housing. Plus, everyone that could took off..
Well, we'll see how Noggin and the governess react to this next one..

You cite "The Cold War" as an example of peace that was won without war.
The Cold War was an arms race of assured mutual destruction.
It is the only instance of that nature I know of and it is still waging right now.

Do you know of an instance where permanent peace was purchased like a sack of potatoes?
Maybe Korea for instance or China?

Only victory in war can win a permanent lasting peace.
Peace is purchased with the lives & blood of America's young men and each war seems to escallate the price.

People who LIKE war?
The insane are free to walk among us, Liberals & Conservatives both.

"I don't think Jorge, or Ross Perot, or the Rich mayor of NYC are truly qualified to make decicions for people who have built and live with their business on a moment to moment basis."

I agree. What government can and should do is maintain a level playing field and ensure "fair" competition. Here the D's are more qualified because the R's corrupted the entire marketplace with things like the K Street project and no bid contracts. They need to go away and regroup. The R's were probably better at it until Reagan simply because that was their heritgage.

"I have a difficult time with the concept that somehow a huge entity such as government, which is controlled by people who produce, (not all the time), but usually nothing but more government; that somehow this is the panacea to the errors of free enterprise."

The level playing field. The referee in the international marketplace, manage the monetary and banking system. We may not like government involvement but we need some. Like your competitor is selling cat food sandwiches as tuna and prices himself way under you...

Actually, that is not true I do or did know several who thrived on war - they were very damaged people. And if "you know better than I" then you must know a few too. But I will take exception to your peace is not possible without war comment. That is simply not true. The cold war was resolved without a massive war because the cost was too terrible for both sides. Peace between rivil countries is maintained by the threat of violience and war but not actual war.

What I say to lefty groups is safety and peace in a city comes about because of professional police. Does it stop crime and violience no but it damn sure limits it. Military are the same way. I had to laugh at the old "peace is my profession" recruiting nonsense. My profession was violience -- the quick, professional application of overwhelming force.

Nope but the old Soviet Union is a clear example they can be resiolved with time, distance and competition.

Not being a wise guy, you mentioned that you were there, if you had your options, would you have stayed.

Read Thomas Sowells numbers on socialized medicine.

The Brits turned in their personel weapons and crime is escalating. Please don't counter that the numbers are exagerrated, because their are resources from different places whose values may vary, but the numbers are climbing.

Taxes .... that's an interesting topic in itself because there are so many ways to measure them and because they are so diverse in nature.
Would you say the paper script that all nations use and it's mutability, most often its devaluation, is a tax?

For the record, I am opposed to corporate welfare .... heard all the arguements about saving Chrysler etc. How it had to be done to spare the little people economic chaos. Doesn't ring true with me.
You are Militant Socialist, I am opposed to the idea of third party people making decisons for others where they bear none of the responsibility and cost for the decisons they make.
Would you give your mom or brother half of your yearly salary and feel that they were adequate authorities to do what is right for you?
Most people will answer to the negative. Consequently, why would we send our money to government parties laden with unproductive beaurarcracy that syphons great portions of any monies collected, and anticipate some kind of beneficial result.
That is madness, Hal Donahues site documents the level of government sponsored compassion for what should be a real priority, care for the guys and their families who stand between us and our avowed enemies.

I called the terrorists "well organized and funded death squads". You countered with "They are just bloody organized criminals that you and this Bush regime have elevated to warriors".

Somehow, you concluded that I was conspiring with the "Bush regime" when our descriptions of the terrorists are essentially identical.

So, do you have some criteria for determining who is one of "the D's and R's that kept the country running through extreme conservatism's failed experiment", or is the method as random as the rest of your wandering thoughts?

Actually testing shows you are completely wrong Vaquero but even if you were correct the loss is as much yours as mine. And that is where extreme conservatism fails and has failed. It is not a zero sum game it is a growth game and if you do not grow you die. After over 25 years of growingly more conservative rule what does the country have to show for it? It no longer has the best education in the world, it no longer has the best healthcare in the world, it no longer leads the world in manufacturing, shall I go on? The only clear lead we have and that is now being squandered is militarily. The show is over you failed. Time for the grown ups to take back the country and rebuild it. Know who we are? We are moderate D's and R's who know we must come together and grow if we are to grow and thrive. The government extreme conservatives seem to want is most often found in third world countries.

Explanation
If the public were reading newspapers less because newspapers are too liberal, then a big market would be growing for conservative newspapers, and that isn't happening.

In fact, most people are reading less (for various reasons we need not explore here due to townhall's new character limit). On the right, people have turned to talk radio. On the left, people have turned to the Internet.

And this non-reading phenomenon was explained to me by high school students I taught 30-35 years ago. One, on the first day of school, warned me, "I don't read hard stuff". Another (who was reading at first grade level in the eleventh grade) explained to me, "I don't need to know how to read. If they want me to know anything, they will put it on television."

Hal
Who is the "we" that will take care of the "problem". Oh and, by the way, I thought there was no problem.

It's disappointing to know that there are other people out there that are as intensely stupid as Rosie O'Donnell. I'd say it was an Irish thing, but I'm Irish, too!!

The steel didn't melt; it was weakened by the heat, OK. All of these stupid "Bush did it" stories are a "...craftily packaged lie designed to tweak your emotions and provoke a visceral response so that you don't take the time to examine all the evidence..."

And, yes, I have read The New Pearl Harbor; a collossal waste of time.

As for Bill Moyers, I am opposed to that miserable sack o'crap feeding at the public trough.

Bush has kept terror attacks away
Why would they even want to attack us. We are doing everything they want from providing training grounds in Iraq to recruiting members for them all the while ignoring their leadership and planning cadres. Now after Bush is gone I fear we will have to look out because those cadres will no longer be ignored

LOL
"How would you behave any differently than you behave today if you openly admitted your support for the Islamic terrorists?"

In any event this is just a smear, and not productive toward solving our problems.

If I had my way I would like to see America look a lot more like Britain.

Britain is no paradise. The class system makes racism in America seem like nothing. School age bullying is insane. When I lived there a whole class of students followed home a classmate chanting that she was fat and she should hanger herself and she did when she got home. And the devolution madness seems to have no end at all. Scotland Wales and even different parts of England want to be independent. It really shows the genius of federalism.

But England is not at all like the stereotypes. Socialism in England is really and truly a thing of the past. They have privatized much more of their economy than the United States has. My taxes would be much lower in England and many more Englishmen are self employed than Americans (probably due in part to universal health care. The citizenship is very involved. At a election times the party manifestos which are sold as books take up a whole aisle in the very small markets (they are best sellers).

Even ANWR has at most two years supply. Isn't it time to reduce consumption? Look we are 5% of the world's population yet we use over 20% of oil production. Know what that does? It makes us vulnerable. It means that by being spread out and guzzling energy if we are cut off from fuel we will be brought to our knees very quickly. This is really a national defense issue. And the Bush Regime and you folks think it is about SUV's....

OMG...
Boy, oh boy! Are the kooks coming out enmasse today!

From "tanabear's" weekly (at least), vaguely camouflaged anti-Jewish sentiments (the neo-cons are the TRUE evil)... to another version of a human living in the alternative universe of 9/11 conspiracy, aka, "IrishEddieOHara", Kevin McCullough's columns never fail to remove the rocks that expose these nuts on Sunday mornings!

Oh... and let us not forget the other liberal talking point "straw men"... the "chickenhawks" mantra... the "why aren't you there fighting?" feint that substitutes for ANY refutation of the points being made here and elsewhere by conservative columnists.

I used to ask this question -- to which I NEVER got an honest answer from a self-described liberal -- are there any takers today?

The question: "How would you behave any differently than you behave today if you openly admitted your support for the Islamic terrorists?"

(Note to conservative readers: Just WATCH & read the many creative ways our leftist friends demonstrate in NOT answering the question... it is usually a hoot!)

Stupidity
Allowing such an article to be printed was pure stupidity on the part of the newspaper editor and to my thoughts treasonous. Free speech has gone over the line..
Major reasons for the decline in newpaper subscriptions are that 75% (guesstimate) of the American people are in their own little bubble-wrapped world, have their heads in the sand, and are mostly interested in stuff like American Idol, Paris Hilton, Britnney Spears, etc. Tragic events occupy them for a very limited period of time (attention deficit). I question that many realize how biased many of the journalist articles actually are. just my humble opinion.

Spectacular
This is a spectacular article, replete with hilarious sarcasm. You have my compliments, Mr. McCullough.

Oh my!
This particular piece from McCullough has obviously brought every brain dead liberal out from under their respective rocks.

We have someone who can't admit that the leftist media is leftist.

We have another one who has called for the drafting of College Republicans without including, in that intellectual and virtuous discourse, anyone from the left.

And now we have a left-wing conspiracy theorist on 9/11.

This overwhelming wave of leftist ignorance nauseates me, I bid you all begone, return to the dungeons known as DU, KOS, MoveOn. Oh wait, better yet, stay, we need to be reminded why the left can't be trusted to ever do anything right or worthwhile.

Norm
We on the left have not enlisted because we are wimpy neville chamberlains, remember?

But college Republicans are brave and want to win, so where's the sacrifice?

It comes down to rhetoric - if conservative media pundits really believed their own apocalyptic rhetoric how can they not drop what they're doing and help fight? Are they afraid? You have to look at it in terms of winning, we need a larger army so we can win.

You nailed it!
Tanabear

Actually, threats to a free society almost always come from within. The greatest threat to a free society is a country's own government. This was the basis of a great deal of modern conservative thought dating back to Hayek's "The Road to Serfdom." Only someone pumped up on neo-con propaganda could believe illiterate desert nomads threaten our freedom.

You are RIGHT ON!! The merest examination of history will show you that since the turn of the 20th century and the Industrial Revolution, it is the big business moguls who have been calling the shots from behind the scenes. The same people who were sending miners into the mines for a nickel a day while raking in MILLIONS for themselves, were not above starting a nice little war here or there so that their goods would be needed en masse. War -- what a great way to make one's fortune!!

No wonder the Prince of Peace said "Blessed are the peacemakers" and his disciple St. Paul, said
"for the LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil".

Boy, has this country ever proved that!

IMPEACH BUSH!
I'm sure the trolls in the White House would just love to repeat 9/11! It has made an absolute TON of money for their business buddies! War is such good business, especially when the massa damnata of your population is so easily decieved and manipulated into thinking that we were attacked by "foreign enemies".

Oh, now, don't git yer knickers in an uproar. Just get the book THE NEW PEARL HARBOR and answer the 40 questions that we true patriots keep asking, ones like

1. Where were all the debris of a plane hitting the Pentagon? For a 757, that plane not only left a surprizingly small amount (like NONE) of debris on the ground, but the hole in the Pentagon was way too small for a jet of that size to have hit it.

2. How did those towers come down when steel requires 2700 degrees of heat to melt? Jet fuel burning gets nowhere close to that.

3. Why weren't NORAD planes scrambled the minute the first jet went off its flight plan?

And on and on and on.....40 questions that you brain dead war hawks out there won't consider asking yourselves.

And then there are the lies by the White House and the complicity of the press with those lies. Bill Moyers did a fine job of showing this with his PBS program THE SELLING OF 9/11.

No....I am not a pacifist. I know there are enemies and bad guys out there and we need a standing army, well trained, to protect us. But the first protection we need is from politicians who act in the interests of big business concerns rather than humanity.

So, now, go ahead....call me names. Tell me I'm stupid, unpatriotic, yada, yada, yada. I just hope you some day wake up and realize that the "truth" you believe in is a very craftily packaged lie designed to tweak your emotions and provoke a visceral response so that you don't take the time to examine all the evidence and start asking (along with many thousands of other Americans) embarassing questions!

desu
What about a liberal contribution to this war? Where is yours, enlist your bloggers and hate mongers to fight. Your general could be "war hero" Kerry. This is real progress, lets all get together to fight this war, liberal and conservative alike. Come on all you "keyboard warriors" of the left and the right, pick up a rifle and let's go shoot up the enemy. I'll even join you, bad right leg and all, I can hobble fast enough I think.

Draft all college students, Democrats and Republicans alike, draft all ideologies, left, right, centrist, all of us. Lets go win this! Gee let's make sure all of our politicians get some too! Draft all of those flippin', weasels , we want to make sure they all have the experience to make decisions about whether to send our kids to war.

Desu, where is your sense of equality? We need to enlist everyone to fight this war, men and women, old and young. You have my full support if it includes everyone. Make sure you include yourself in a mass enlistment, I'm sure you would not want to miss the party.

Prior service does not make one an expert on whether to fight a war or not, lack of service does not preclude honest opinions on an opinion forum. Grow up!

Helping terrorists
The phrases, 'Never underestimate your opponent', and 'Two heads are better than one' come to mind.
Does anyone else see anything wrong with 10 million people submitting ideas on how to best get away with a terrorist attack and then publishing the 'best of the best' in the newspaper?

phylo
MAYBE kevin is a fifth grader, but that puts him 4 grades ahead of you

Bigg Dogg says:
"Norm, McCullough refers to the big ticket papers - the Times, The WSJ, The NY Post (which, by selling their paper for a quarter has gained circulation). If you actually read the media you hate, you'd see that it's either mosstly center right - particularly the flo over states or takes no real opinion at all - like USA Today - for instance - the biggest newspaper of them all. If you want to argue that publishing industry has not had troubles for years, feel free, but that would make you dumb as Kevin...It's certainly not politics that's killing the newspapers..."

I beg your pardon, "mostly center right", what color is the sky on your planet? Those three papers you name are a tiny fraction of the print media that overwhelmingly supports leftist causes and prints leftist bias. USA Today and almost all of the major newspapers simply reprint AP, UPI, and Reuters articles. All three of those news services have a distinctly leftist slant to them. Except for the small town local papers there is no original reporting anymore. The only thing really dumb about all of this is your refusal to see what is so apparent to people who are simply leaving these lousy papers and networks. "Not politics" I beg to differ, Fox does a good job of presenting both sides, liberal and conservative, they have the numbers leftist CNN does not. The newspapers are being abandoned because they are overwhelmingly left-wing, if they were reporting straight news folks would read them. I think that's especially true of the older generation most of whose news traditionally comes from print media. They are not picking up the papers anymore, and I guarantee it has more to do with the content than a publishers business practices.

If Philidelphia, San Francisco....
or the New York Times were bombed by terrorist's, would anyone care?

I think not.

Islamist fundamentalism is the gravest threat ever posed to a free society, yet the liberal elements within aid their ambitions with every tick of the clock.

Desouza is right, we need to rid the enemy within, before we defeat them abroad.

What are you prepared to do for your children?

Kevin McCullough
Isn't this kind of low-brow, mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, fear-mongering, liberal bashing getting a little old for you folks on the right?

Honestly, this guy has the emotional and intellectual maturity of a fifth grade boy.

Phylo out.

Circulation and subscriptions
Bigg Dogg, I would like to know what conservative newspapers you are talking about. Perhaps the less than 1% of all printed news media in the US that purports to be conservative?

I think the McCullough article is right on target, that Americans are abandoning the leftist oriented media in droves. I think it has less to do with the ability of Americans to read, than the fact that they can't get straight unbiased news anymore. In order to get news online they still have to read the text on the screen don't they?

Also, the major networks no longer attract the numbers they used to. This is due in large part to the fact that the leftist bias is so obvious that folks won't watch anymore. How about talk radio? No reading skills required yet the liberals can't seem to get a show off the ground, gee, maybe it's the leftist anti-American bias? Maybe it's the fact that leftist America haters no longer need the news, they have their marching orders/mantra and the networks and print media are just preaching to the choir.

It certainly seems to me that conservative news outlets, talk shows, etc. are doing far better than their liberal counterparts. Fox, the talk shows, and internet news/opinion sites of the conservative variety seem to be attracting numbers that the liberals can't match.

I think it's the fact that most Americans are tired of the America hating leftist news media. I think that is sinking the circulation/subscriptions of print media and destroying the ratings of the big networks. How long do you think people will hang around when they're told constantly and untruthfully how evil America is? How long do you think they will hang around when the leftist controlled media commits treason on nearly a daily basis? Our news media establishment, both print and networks, are reaping what they have sown. When they finally die I will be there to p*ss on their collective graves!

Re New Orleans and Katrina

About 20 years ago, a friend of mine who grew up in Louisiana told me that if a hurricane hit New Orleans and the pumps quit, there would be major problems and the city would be flooded ( The consequence of being below sea level).

It was a known problem 20 YEARS AGO!

Letter to the Times
I just sent an e-mailed letter to the editor at the NY Times commenting on their new low that encourages Islamic terrorists. They won't publish it, of course, but at least somebody will have to read at least the first part of it and it's a vote.

Thanks for your good work, Kevin

Amazing
again, the freaks come out. If anyone thinks there won't be a terror attack after Dems could be elected, then you are kidding yourselves. Mark your calendars for the "Prince of Terror's" kiss. When the attack actually happens, then the dems will believe terror exists, and it will be soon enough to blame GWB. Just what they always wanted!
Do I want that to happen? Absolutely not. It is the absurdity of what is being ignored by politicians that leads me to this conclusion. And, for what? Power that gets them nowhere, fast.

lefto-extremos
IDEA: Howard Dean and the lefto-extremos leave Vermont and move to Newark.

blustrmom
Speaking of Katrina when the response was going on Fox News anchor Shepherd Smith was standing on an overpass giving a policeman hell and asking 'What are you doing about this?' as people waded out of the water and onto the bridge. The cop ignored him.

Smith actually should have been asking every person wandering by 'Why the hell are you still here?'. All the residents of New Orleans knew a big one was aimed at them. When people do stupid things there is a price to pay. The essence of liberalism is the desire to avoid that payment.

blustrmom/grndmomx2
Areas controlled by Democrats are all sewers because Democrats believe that everyone should be equal (except for them) therefore everyone should be equally miserable.

Ed
Coming from Philly, I agree. That city is a sewer, always was, always will be as long as it remains under demcoratic control. You know, come to think of it, most urban areas that are under democratic control are sewers. Why is that, militant leftist??

Re: Airlines
Shocking as this may be I actually agree with militant leftist on the running of the American Airline industry. However when it comes to safety I think the airline industry will take it's model from the auto industry. Thirty years ago the auto industry fought auto safety regulations, now those regulations are all outdated because the auto industry is using safety as selling point for their cars and light trucks, such air bags, side impact air bags and crumple zones.
Eventually some smart airline executive will say "hey, why don't we have the safest airlines in America? Even safer then the Israeli Airlines." The rest will see the success of that policy and follow suite.

One last item
militant-your reference to Katrina, gotta ask, just what part do the local and state authorities play in a disaster?? I was always under the impression that they were first responders. Seems to me nagin knew the storm was going to hit for at least four days. What did he do?? NOTHING. Why didn't blanco call out the National Guard sooner?? You know, maybe you are right. Since the state of Lousiana has been under corrupt democratic control for decades, they should fall under the federal government. It's obvious they are so inept they can't handle something like Katrina.

Ah, militant leftist
And yet another lib who believes all was just great until 1/20/01. Your msm has done a wonderful job in the attempt to wipe the images of 9/11 from our minds. Obviously, you and your ilk have taken from the many vats of koolaid provide by the soros crew.
Tell us again how wonderful it was during the clinton good time days.

Militant Leftist
Oozing from your diatribe is the hate for America that you proclaim does not exist in your heart. You in essence label all Americans craven cowards and idiots and then wonder why you are looked at askance.

Maybe you don't really feel that way about your fellow citizens. It could be that you look at yourself that way but can't aim the venom where it deserves to go.

Militant Leftist
What was your point in you first post? You began by calling Kevin Mcullough a thug, then went on to some un-itelligable ramblings about Katrina and finished by calling everyone a craven coward.

Lost Souls of Journalism
The isolation of the journalist community is evident in all three stories highlighted by Mr. McCullough. As readership declines, influence declines. Less and less peers show up at their favorite watering holes, due to layoffs and cut-backs in employer perks.
This downsizing exacerbates the isolation of the journalists...soon no one will comment on their fantasy columns and political cartoons. But they won't even notice because the remnant will sincerely believe that all right-thinking people believe as they do...afterall, all their friends complement their work and agree with them. Right.
A sad future for the journalism MSM elite. Poor lost souls!

Steven D Levitt Article
If the "Freak" want's ideas on how to carry out terrorist attacks here is a good one. Tell the terorists to bomb gourmet coffee shops next to college campuses and rid the world of liberal professors and the New York Times building to eliminate stupidity in New York City, Oh wait the terrorists would need a thermo-nuclear devise for that.

The Phila. Daily News
is not alone in the City of Brotherly
Love. You certainly should have
included the Phila. Inquirer. Both
newspapers are rags. But what do you
expect in a Democratic city where the
homicide rate is on track to exceed
400 for the second straight year.
Naturally it's everyone's fault
except those that are doing the
killing. Now doesn't that sound
familiar!

Re the airlines...
....check out the secretive Mrs. Daschle regarding airlines. Thank heaven we do not have either one of them around much, Mr. or Mrs. But beware, they love working in the shadows, behind the scenes.

When does such talk become
TREASON? It is already conspiracy.

HANG EM HIGH. No wait. Don't.

Best thing to do to the NYT and the MSM is EXACTLY what we are doing. Ignoring them.

No subscriptions.
No advertisments.
No web hits.
Nothing.

Soon, they will fade away.

As for Airlines
How can you possibly feel sorry for the airlines? For years they fought tooth and nail against almost any effort to increase security even though airports and airplanes are regular targets of terrorism.

One might have thought that they would have happily sent into bankruptcy and their assets auctioned off to entrepreneurs who were better risk mangers.

But no. The government gave the victims huge settlements contingent on them not suing the airlines.

Then they gave the airlines direct financial assistance.

Then the airlines used the bankruptcy court to slash the wages of their employees. Funny, poor people aren't allowed to use bankruptcy to slash their phone bills or rent.

They still weren't profitable. If they were a worker, their jobs would have been outsourced to India.

But no, the airlines are protected from competition from European and Israeli airlines that practice stringent security and still make a profit.

The airlines may not be terrorists but they are despicable parasites that are given advantage after advantage and still can't make a profit or provide decent service.

McCullough is a libelous thug
Thugs like McUllough like to talk tough about liberals as though our our empathy for our fellow man makes weak.

But guess what, we aren't.

Bush's response to 9-11 has been sustained incompetance. If anything invites a terrorist attack it is the government's response to Katrina. It beautifully showed that Bush has made no plans whatsoever to deal with a major attack. There obviously was no infastructure for mass evacuations and treating hundreds of wounded.

We have contempt for Bush's incompetence because it is contemptible. He is without a doubt one of the worst military leaders of history.

Part of the reason why it is so essential to discuss the type of attacks that might be employed by terrorist is to try to prevent people from resorting to venal cowardice as they did in responce to 9-11.

What kind of idiot was shocked by 9-11. The attack on the Cole and the embassy bombings in Africa were sophisticated attacks. The World Trade Center had itself been attacked.

When I turned on the television to see the towers burning I was not surprised in the least. When I visit New York or London I am just as aware that I may be killed in a terrorists attack as I am that I could be killed by drunk driver.

And in response to this entirely predictable event people all over the country were willing to give up our most cherished ideals that braver men happily went to their deaths to defend.

If you were shocked by 9-11 who knows what you will be shocked by. That's why we need to tell you the sort of things that could happen so maybe just maybe you can not act like a craven coward if something does happen.

I truly hope so...
I see no problem with a potential war with Iran. They've been begging for war since 1979, and it's high time we gave it to them.

Because the overall strategy of this war that I've observed is to change the way of things in the Middle East that fuels and perpetuates Islamofascism that compels people to strap bombs on their bodies in the belief that they will have virgins in paradise if they kill infidels in the process of their own death. If this can be done, Islamofascism will lose followers as more and more people realize that there is an alternative. And when that happens, Islamic terrorism will be shown to be a stupid ideology given the results of it: Hundreds of thousands, if not millions dead that could've been learning modern skills needed to fashion a modern productive nation; whole communities in ruins due to awesome western retaliation; and Islam in retreat everywhere.

I support every effort that brings this goal about. The alternative is a future fraught with menacing terror leaders spreading fear and doubt, controlling oil rich nations that the west needs to stay productive since morons won't let anyone but communists drill within their own borders or offshore.

enough with the neocons already! try another angle. it's getting old.

Negative Emotion Clouds Judgement
Libs are so consumed with lust for power, they refuse to see the consequences of the only strategy of obtaining control over America they can come up with. Just like an alcoholic/addict, they try to build self esteem by trash talking others. This only leads to frustration and anger, and, eventually, due to poor choices in their obscured thinking, self destruction. Unfortunately, thanks to some very rich and powerful supporters, (the Antichrist, maybe?) they may take down America with them. The darkness is powerful, but I'll stay in the Light, even though I gotta go throw up.
