Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The night after Christmas I sat down for a homemade tamale dinner in Southern California with a newly appointed U.S. Naval Officer, and his best friend - an enlisted Marine. My time with them was as enlightening as it was enjoyable. It was a moment I wish our nation had been able to witness.

Both men were out of uniform, both were home for a few days of leave. Best friends since they were kids, the two were of course at ease with each other and the other assembled guests. Though the Marine has been in longer, there was some good natured ribbing about who would be required to salute who if they had both been in uniform. Their conversation style was polite, both of them often responding to questions with a slight smile usually followed by a "yes sir."

Much of the discussion centered around the theaters of service the Marine had just returned from, and comparing notes with what officer candidate school had been like for the newly crowned Naval Aviator. When on occasion, I would raise a question that would begin to have political ramifications to it and even though both were off duty and completely free to respond, their restraint always kept them from immediately jumping on even the easiest of targets.

When I asked what they felt about John Kerry's comments regarding the general intelligence level of the men and women who serve today, the Marine just grinned, leaned in a little and nearly whispered, "It’s not true you know?"

In very humble terms he went on to talk about how nearly intimidating it is. As a newly appointed platoon leader he overseas a handful of men who all enlisted (as he did) but because most of them went on to college prior to joining the marines, many of them were older than himself. Because of his record he has also been promoted faster than many of the class he enlisted with. He also recounted some of the very technical operations his platoon had been assigned in the last two years - literally spanning the globe - and in some cases serving as instructors to our allies. His experience also disputes John Kerry's "stuck in Iraq" theory because though this Marine was only one year removed from being able step down from service he had yet to even be in Iraq.

That will change soon however. Even before the President has decided on whether to up the numbers of our military in Iraq, this Marine's unit was slated to be headed there in early 2007.

That note brought a brief pause to the conversation.

"But we're excited to be headed there. We signed up to serve our country, protect our families, and do what we can."

The Naval Officer spoke of future assignments he may be called upon to carry out for the protection of America.

"The thing about the Super Hornet (F-18 - the aircraft he will be flying) is that it is built both to take on air-to-air dog fighting, while the NFO (backseat position) will be able hit targets on the ground - accurate to within three feet." He added, "it's not like anyone wants to go drop bombs on people, but when we have to it sure is nice to know that the surgical accuracy of the strikes can prevent the loss of life among the innocent."

The conversation lasted for about an hour and a half, and felt truly uplifting, even inspiring - very different than what we hear from the media.

This conversation followed my recent visit to Pensacola Florida where I was able to attend the graduation ceremonies of officer class 04-07. With Marine drill instructors, turning young, again mostly college educated minds into toughened Naval Officers, I was reminded of the first class nature of our armed services and the types of people who choose to serve today.

I get so weary of media agencies, Hollywood producers, and the political left in America denigrating, down-grading, and degrading those who defend us.

And it strikes me when I have these encounters, that I am left wondering how much time any of them spend with our service men and women. I confess that in recent years I have not spent as much time as I would have liked, but that’s changed. In 2007 I am already committing to broadcast from any military outpost that invites me, even if in a forward deployed area.

In 2007 I will exhaust myself if necessary to tell the story about our finest. I will encourage the next generation to investigate military service of any sort, as they feel led.

2007 may bring many ominous signs about our nation's future, but those signs stem from an ungrateful leftist slant in America. By contrast the spirit, restraint, intelligence, precision, dedication, and commitment, of a young marine, a naval officer and thousands more service men and women may just point us to the light we need to survive the toughest days which lay ahead.

I am grateful for their example, and convicted by their reminder.

Working overtime.
The true brilliance of the Neo-Cons who have hijacked the GOP is their success in convincing the public that to question the policies of this Administration is to demonize the military.

It is a highly effective strategy that has muffled any and all criticism of the insanities of Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld’s war of choice.

There is a delightful sense of justice to have an honorable man like Gerald Ford reach out from the grave to slap down these little boys.

Articles such as this prove my theory that, with the clock ticking, the Neo-Cons must work over time now to salvage this President’s reputation before history delegates him to the dung heap.

a realist view.
Nice article. The people who serve in our military are the best of Americans.

That being case, they should be deployed in combat only to protect our security, or in response to an attack.

When our troops are deployed in combat, rules of engagement must allow for aggressive operations to defeat and eliminate the enemy.

Mosques and neighborhoods which provide sanctuary for insurgents and terrorists must be targeted.

It is almost criminal to place our troops in danger, if they are not able to defend themselves due to issues of "cultural sensitivity" and "political correctness".

Their lives are too valuable to be expended in "nation-building", especially when so many citizens of the nation on whose behalf our military is so employed are resentful of our efforts and presence.

Or, to put it another way, our military is too valuable a resource to be used as an instrument in a political and social experiment designed to determine whether the muslim world is receptive to democracy.

Even so, now that we are there, we must not fail.

We must strongly support our military in establishing an Iraq that is not a haven for terrorists. Efforts at nation-building to create a democracy must give way to leaving a stable Iraq in place that does not pose a threat to us, or its neighbors.

Our failure there would embolden terrorists worldwide, despite the flimsy arguments justifying the invasion, or this administration's "democracy crusade".

Elisabeth
Are you muffled?

Your stuff sounds like criticism to me.

Jerabaub
Right on. Its a dirty shame so many mistakes are made in a war. Its inevitable when violence takes place at this scale by determined intelligent people. The success of one side appears as a mistake by the other. The attack on Iraq may or may not have been a mistake. WE are where we are. It behooves us all to make the best of it from here. Elisabeth is no help for anything, except bolstering the enemies' will to continue resistance.

Elisabeth
I haven't noticed the "muffling of any and all criticism" of the administration. Seems pretty prominent everywhere to me.
You seem to be saying that a person can be against the war, but supportive of the military. I'm sure that's possible, but John Kerry certainly hasn't mastered that art, nor have the protestors that show up at soldiers' funerals. To me, those are the dung heap.

Consider Column's Message, Elisabeth
Kevein McCullough's column was about the high quality of the men and women serving in our military. However, you, elisabeth, have used that occasion to bash "neocons" and George W. Bush. You obviously have a psychopathic hatred of George W. Bush who history will treat well for, among other things: after 9/11, keeping the nation safe from major terorist attack and waging aggressively the war against the Islamofascists; nominating superb justices to the Supreme Court in John Roberts and Sam Alito, cutting taxes to trigger a robust and growing economy; and restoring decency in personal relations to the White House (no tawdry Monica Lewinsky affairs now). But I do have a suggestion for you, elisabeth: consider the point of Kevin McCullough's column and ponder how blessed we are with the high quality of the men and women in military service who have voluntereed to put themselves in harm's way for our country.

Personally, I appreciate a column like Kevin McCullough's because I know what great people we have serving in the military. My older son, after graduating from Purdue, was commissioneed a Second Lieutenant in the US Army, then earned successively his infantry ofdficer "blue cord" and Ranger tab and now is serving in Iraq. My younger son will upon graduation from Purdue be commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Marines. I think the world of my sons, and in my encounters with their peers, I have been awed at the magnificence of the young people going into military service for our country.

Pondering the blessing we have in the quality of people going into military service for our country is something that is good to think about. It just might take your mind, elisabeth, out of the destructive rut it is in, at least for a little while.

Great Article
Elisabeth, you are worthless and your left-wing rhetoric will get you nowhere in this forum. I try hard to ignore people like you, but when you insult the great people of this Country that protect weak and pathetic people like you, I have no choice. The left continually demoralize our troops and it is getting on my nerves. I am sorry that I lost my temper, but I am only human.

Phil, the Elisabeths of the world
can be counted on to use ANY excuse to bash the administration - and by extension our bright & brave youngsters in the service. Facts will not sway them and they thrive on scorn. They are to be pitied. I have learned to laugh at them.

Recruiter Told Me
I was checking inot a hotel and overheard 2 army recruiters talking. I started asking questions about the (as Ive heard) massive number of volunteers and how the numbers are encouraging etc. They told me that they were under order to get anyone and everyone in the door, and one told how he had to admit a kid who had a felony convistion at 17 yrs old, but now at 18 his recds as juvenile were sealed, and therefore not available.
He told of retesting over and over.
Now the kneejerk comes. I'll be assumed a lefty etc. NOT THE CASE. This conversation floored me and left me a bit confused and concerned. These recruiters did not insult the military as it stands, but rather confronted as false the notion that we have depth of PLENTY more smart qualified people volunteering.
As a strong conservative pro military etc. I sometimes will see how even on our side we can tend to get caught up in Rah Rah Rah and ignore any fact from the other side.
Intellectual honesty is a good thing. Now let the slinging and refutation begin.

The tratorous MSM never
humanizes the soldiers the way they did in the first half of the country. Once they committed themselves to tearing down our country and replacing it with Socialism, they have perverted and distorted every institution they could get their hands on, from the MSM, to the courts, to the universities.

It takes equally committed people who want to preserve this nation to fight back, to wrestle the seats of power back from the traitors, to have a bloodless counter-coup, so that normal, patriotic RED-blooded Americans report the news, teach the children & young Adults, and preside in the courts over the important decisions of the day.

And we need leaders in Washington who see issues clearly and make decisions based on a true moral compass.

Only then can we heal our land and return to the great blessing to the world that God intended this land to be.

Conservativation
I'm not sure what area you were watching these recruiters work in and I won't dispute what goes on, but when those lessor quality recruits meet the real military, in the form of a mean old Drill Sergeant instilling some discipline in their wastrel lives, they either wash out or are re-made into decent soldiers.

My brother, now in Iraq, was a recruiter for years and my nephew still is. Unfortunately, they have quotas to fill and sometimes have to allow standards to slip. Taken as a whole, recruits are much higher quality than the draftees I had to serve with in Viet Nam, who DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE!

Our military is at war, but the country is at peace. When we're hit again and feel some actual pain, those who will make up our next "Greatest Generation," will step forward, prepared to sacrifice and serve.

I wish all my friends and relatives now serving a Happy New Year and pray God protects them and safely returns them home to their loved ones.

Agreed
Roadmaster:

I was not watching the recruiters, I was talking w/ them (off duty) late at night in a hotel lobby somewhere along an interstate in central TN during the pre Christmas driving. We were all exhausted and doing that road warrior dad bonding thing when they told me these things.
I made no comments or judgements about what happens to these substandard recruits, nor did I express an opinion on the impact on the overall military, read my post again, so no need to defend what i did not attack.
Indeed I had the same thought that these recruits will benefit greatly by the training etc., or they will drop off, of course our military has a system that protects it from mediocrity. My contention was about how we conservatives can tend to ignore facts if they disagree w/ us too (not nearly as bad as the libs do) in that we hear the cheerleading that we are flush w/ bright young qualified recruits eager to serve country, and these recruiters told me they were having to slide em in to meet numbers.
I say OK fine, lets just be honest about it, it has no bearing on the standing military but is a potential problem perhaps needing to be addressed.

Good Morning All.

At the beginning of December I once again was denied access to the comments. I don’t know of what I was guilty (never do get to find out do we?). But I do hope you all had a Merry Christmas and will have a prosperous New Year.

Lately I have been lying in the weeds just reading the posts and I continue to be amazed at the posts of the Liberals. The most recent ludicrous post is by Elisabeth who said Sunday, December, 31, 2006 6:05 AM, “The true brilliance of the Neo-Cons who have hijacked the GOP is their success in convincing the public that to question the policies of this Administration is to demonize the military.”

Regarding the phrase ‘to demonize the military’, I seem to remember in the past of one specific group of people calling our troops overseas and at war “baby killers”. I also recall one popular leader of that group of people before congress stating that our troop murdered, raped, and tortured civilians; even collecting ‘ears’ as trophies. Does this classify as acts ‘to demonize the military’?

Fast forward to the WOT. I recall a slur against the military that Korans were flushed down toilets by our troops. This was proved to be false but never was written an apology from the MSM. Can this classified as ‘to demonize the military’? I recall an Illinois Senator calling the troops ‘Nazis’. Did he ‘demonize the military’?

Where ever I look I see Liberals demonizing our troops and military. These are separate attacks from attacks on the Administration. The attacks on our troops are not criticisms of the Administration. Elisabeth is dishonest to say she is criticizing the administration and that Conservatives interpret that criticism as demonizing the military. Conservatives here know when a Liberal attacks the Administration and when he is demonizing the military.

She has the First Amendment right to criticize the Administration. The fact that she successfully posted on this site demonstrates that right. It also demonstrates that she (like all other Liberals here) is not being muffled.

If Elisabeth is dishonest about her posts and criticisms, why should I believe any of her words?

Really good article
and I pray with Pitbull.

But I pray also for a VICTORY. a WIN.

and I don't care how many Iranians, Syrians or other ..ians or ..ists fall in the process.

Godspeed.

Jerabaub
Yes, it was a good article and it is, indeed, refreshing to see our military represented with fairness and appreciation. I also thought your response was infused with common sense and a keen understanding of the appropriate use of our military, of which I was a part for 23 years.

When you go to war, you go to win. Our enemies should have been advised that anyone resisting will be killed, looters will be shot, and when it is determined that enemy fire emanates from a Mosque, that Mosque will be obliterated. Period.

What needs to be done in 2007 is for an intense policy debate to be undertaken in the new Congress. It must be determined whether or not we have the will to fight a war for survival that is going to take a generation to win. If the answer is yes, then we need a "Declaration of War" against radical Islam and we must prepare out people (like the moronic, ideological bomb-throwing Elisabeth) for longterm sacrifice and participation. That means more troops, more money, and more killing. If the answer is no, then we should bring our troops home and hunker down on our borders and prepare for intermittent, but unrelenting, suicide bombings and terrorist attacks on our cities and infrastructure until we agree to submit to Islamic law in the U.S.

That is the plan of our enemies. We either confront, and win, or surrender. 2007 is the year, and Congress is the place. It's time to decide whether "United we stand, divided we fall" means anything or if we believe it to be some trite homily mouthed by sunshine patriots a couple of centuries ago.

Elisabeth...
...I must've missed something, because I never did get the message that to criticize the administration was the same as criticizing the military. Can you describe to me when/where that occurred? Thanks.

There is a disconnect
between politics and patriotisim. To some, it is the love of country and commitment to serve. To others it is power and the power to change people and the culture. It is steeped in Marxisim and the only recognized road to socialisim. Socialists hate patriots because they stand in the way of eutopia and social "progress" for the patriots seek not to change but to uphold the unique way of life that has become known as "American".

I served 15 years in the Army and as a student of military history I know that one cannot "support" the troops and denigrate the mission in the same breath. Soldiers are known by who leads them, we can either be of high moral with good leadership or of poor moral with bad leadership but the mission is always before us. The Army of the Potomac in our own Civil war was an army of high moral but of poor leadership throughout most of the first three years of war. Loss after loss with casualties into the tens of thousands upon its record but as an organization it knew that the mission was before it to fight the good fight and knew they were good soldiers. The soldiers stood by thier Commander in Chief throughout the darkest days of that war when Copperheads (democrats ironically enough) sought to make political hay of the long duration of the war and its casualty counts. Lincoln was attacked by former generals and a press that wanted peace at all costs.

When you slime the war and the CinC you slime the men and women who follow his orders for they are "serving" their country in one of the few remaining honorable professions still in existance in our culture. The President is the highest commander a service person will ever have and the only civilian they are authorized to give proper honors to. When you tear the CinC down you tear down every man and woman in uniform who renders those honors. Armies used to be noted by their commanders as in Patton's 5th Armored; our armed forces represent the wishes of the CinC abroad and do their duty.

Stop kidding yourselves and drop the pretense of "support".

Mick7
Your points are well articulated...To me, it makes perfect sense. I have always believed that pre-emptive pays. I certainly do not want more attacks on our soil and hunkering down to win is the only strategy that will work.
The only "proper reply" to United we stand, divided we fall is

Semper Fi!!!

Being old and cynical
I seldom believe anyone's "facts" until I research them for myself. For most of the time I served in the Guard, 1980-1998, recruiters were under tremendous pressure to meet their monthly goals and I know for a fact, they'd slip in questionable people, knowing they'd get bounced back, just to get the higher ups off their back. They're trapped in a numbers game which reflects badly on their career if they don't meet the quotas.

The services lost many good men who gave up recruiting after trying to enlist bodies under the Clinton regime and were unable to inspire people to serve under that putz, even with some very good incentives. Too bad the system has forced them into becoming used car salesmen in uniforms.

It is very heartening to see the quality of our soldiers, their intelligence and dedication. The problem is we don't see them in proportion to the few disgruntled snivelers the left can dredge up and trot in front of the cameras. Maybe I tend to overcompensate toward the side I agree with, but at least I have facts and statistics on my side as opposed to the libs who choose to ignore what doesn't suit their agenda. When you've been pounded down by half-truths and downright lies coming from the enemedia for so many years, you get defensive.

At least here on TH, the Elizabeth type, drive-by posters are called on their intellectual dishonesty and irrational hatred.

pitbull, AMEN!
Kevin, great article, looking forward to more.

I think Elisabeth is a drive-by basher. She probably hits every column with the same drivel and doesn't have time to come back for debate. I doubt that she's ever read anyone's refutation of her garbage. Just wondering, Elisabeth, how hard do you have to work at being that stupid? Just a rhetorical question, since you'll never read this.

I talked to a couple of our heroes in the Atlanta airport on my way home for Christmas. I didn't ask whether they had been to Iraq (and they didn't say), but I've been around enough military (1st/12th Infantry Battalion, 1979 - 1982; Inactive Reserve, 1982 - 1985) to put a solid bet on their having been there. I was absolutely impressed with their humbleness and respectfulness. These guys in our military are truly the salt of the earth.

Since I travel a fair amount, I occasionally get upgrades to first class, which was the case for the flight I was waiting to take. I traded seats with one of these guys. It was a very small gesture in recognition of their much greater sacrifices. My only regret is that I had but one seat to give. (Slight perversion of the Nathan Hale quote, "I only regret that I have but one life to give...", which he said before being hanged by the British for espionage in the Revolutionary War.)

In all seriousness, though, I noticed that there were nearly a dozen men in uniform, but this guy was the only one that sat in first class. I would like to encourage everyone out there to do something for these guys whenever you get a chance. Buy them a meal, trade them your aisle seat for their center seat, or a first class ticket for coach. They appreciate our small sacrifices. Thanks.

Phil1861
"I know that one cannot "support" the troops and denigrate the mission in the same breath."
"When you slime the war and the CinC you slime the men and women who follow his orders"

See the new Military Times poll, taken from a pool of active-duty soldiers, half of whom served in Iraq:

http://www.militarycity.com/polls/2006poll_iraq.php

Note the responses to questions 6, 7, 10, and 11.

There's no question (except from a few radicals) that our troops are doing a tough job under difficult circumstances, and they're doing it as well as they can. But they are, to repeat the Crimean War (and WWI) phrase, "lions led on by asses". In this case, the asses are at the very top. And more of the troops are realizing it.

Frey
"lions led on by asses" is absolutely the case. But its always the case. The really big boo boos are made at the top. No way to avoid it because the repercussions are so obvious and severe. A gold bar messes up and several good men buy it. The top dogs mess up and you have Pearl Harbor. Its a tribute to magnificent warriors that they can rise above these inequities. God bless our fighting men and women.

Neocons
Whenever I read one of these threads someone has to make a comment about neocons that hijacked the GOP. Who are these neocons? Did they hijack using force or violence? What do they propose to do about the neocons? When I asked a liberal friend about neocons he was incensed that the neocons support Israel and they have alligned themselves with dangerous right wing Christians.

I have no problems with those that oppose the war. I have a problem when they do so out of hatred for GWB and the Republicans. We may never disagree but we should think about the welfare of our country.

Our military is engaged in mortal combat and they need to be supported in this endeavor. That includes the commander in chief. If you do not support the war then you want our military to fail. If they fail they die.

Democratic personage
If that is a reference to McCullough's question about Kerry, then I believe the personage is the one who took the swipe, and Kevin is merely asking for these military people for their opinion of his "joke". Hardly a swipe at Kerry, its simply a question of "what do you think?" posed openly about comments that were publicly made by a U.S.Senator. Now, here is an example of a "swipe": What do you think of the remarks of that traitorous idiot from Massachusetts when he called everyone in the military stupid? - Get the difference, there? See, what I said was a swipe. What McCollough asked was what we call a polite question on current events.
Now, for Elisabeth, I will use your comment as a springboard for a question thats been dogging me all week: Why on earth, should I believe Bob Woodward's account of Gerald Ford's remarks. Is there any record of this utterance beyond Woodward's recollection! I, for one, am less than convinced of the account offered by Woodward. I find it plausible that Ford might have been reluctant to deploy, had he been in office, but I don't believe he ever spoke negatively about a sitting President's actions, even with a caveat to not reveal such an opinion until he passed. Its just not Ford! He was always above the fray, when it came to class and demeanor. He wasn't the sort to second-guess any sitting President, even posthumously! And of all the people in the press to talk with about current policies, . . Bob Woodward? I'm not buying it!

Military dedication
Hey Elisabeth,
Kilo Mike Alpha

Education level
When we discuss the education level of our current troops we have to know what we are comparing. When I was in boot camp in 1962 only a little more that half my company had completed high school. That is not a guess or someone elses facts, I was the Recruit Education Petty Officer for the company.

During Vietnam we had the draft and the Navy, and probably the Coast Guard, recruiters had no problem filling their quota. Many would rather join the Navy than be a ground pounder and most likely go "in country". No disrespect to my fellow Vietnam veterans but the bar was set as low as possible at that time.

Now we have a volunteer military and they are the best educated, best trained, and probably the most dedicated military force in history.

Compare the education level of todays all volunteer force with the education level of my contemporaries and they are far and away better educated than we were.

Thanks, Kevin
As the father of a soldier who has served in Iraq, you made my day. Thank you.

America the Beautiful

Those men in uniform are there, wherever they are in the world, for America, in the concrete and in the abstract. They are there because they want an America to come home to. That's all.

America is not beautiful when she smears herself with dribbles such as a thing called Kerry, but she is an America that allows such creatures the right to dribble drivel.

There is in my family a military person one of whose duties it was to see to it that weaponry was locked and loaded and ready to roll, and ready to roll to the proper places. He did a bang-up job of it, knowing that the fighting men and women using this weaponry counted on people like him.

One may not believe it takes any brain power to perform that job, but that dribble called Kerry would probably have a problem with it. Too smart, you know.

I frequently weep for my country, as recounted in one of my blogs, but I have faith in my country, and I have faith in the multitudes of military such as those members described by Mr. McCullough and such as the one described by me (the latter of whom is now home, going to school, and starting his own business. I dare anyone to tell me he is not "smart").

They want an America to come home to. We need to give them the go-ahead to do whatever is necessary in furtherance of that goal.

Whatever it takes.

News Media & critics U.S. worst Enemy.
Biased News media, Politions, some congressmen. Senators, enen some retired generals and ex Presidents, and others condeming America Knowing that enchourages the enemy to keep on fighting. Like a communist leader said we will destroy you from within. Is America going to set by and let a biased News Media and a small percentage of Americans, and some others countries that support this control and destroy Anerica from within. And jeopardise our national security. we eperienced this during the Vietnam war When the dmonstrations started and cost America Tnousands and thousand of American lives at a time they were ready to surrender and the demostrations were supported by commist countries as I understand it. I cannot understand Americans that are willing to jeopardise American security for tempory political gain.

Frey
Thanks for that link on military times survey of our troops.

It was quite revealing. It confirms what I had believed to be the case regarding opinions of active duty troops toward the Iraq mission, and our president, in general.

It is interesting the troops give higher marks to Bush's handling of the presidency itself, than with his handling of Iraq.

Knowing your subject...
Ms. Elizabeth,

There is nothing wrong with your comentary, by virtue of the First Amendment. However, you do not have the combat experience to make any judgement calls whatsoever. Pull on a set of those uniforms, pull on those combat boots. Carry your pack, carry your weapon, and your ammo, in a foreign climate and location. While you are there, you should do a little mortal combat, some hand to hand combat fighting and test your mettle as a person who must fight a battle for those right to earn the sacred title of a combat soldier. By the way, while you are doing all this our little inexperienced one, try some of that rhetoric on your fellow troops. You will have a little confrontation with your fellow troops that will also add to your combat experience. Go through the trials and tribulations of combat troops. See those things that they see, do the things that they do. Find out what it is like to be in combat and watch as true patriots distinguish themselves during very trying incursions into hostile territory and in harms way, in general. Earn the right to run your mouth and criticise troops that fought next to you to keep you alive. Walk many miles in their combat boots, and try to stay alive during your tours of duty. Walk point, learn what combat consists of and benefit from the knowledge. Read Lt. Colonel Oliver North's book on combat in World War II. Read it from cover to cover and learn about war, from the mouths of fighting troops, not a MSM moron's pen. Learn about the War Correspondent Ernie Pyle, who never carried a rifle and yet was killed by a snipers bullet, and the nation mourned his passing. Earn the right to speak out against those who voluntarily serve, to protect your mewlings, little kitty. Speak out to the mothers of these troops and stand by to receive hell from those who have their sons and daughters in active combat. You are not a big girl and with a mind that operates under those principles which you have chosen to embrace, you are not going to be popular either. Hide your hate and ridicule from your husband and make double sure that he is not a veteran. I pray that God will heal your mind, or teach you a lesson, connected to a long incident. He can choose that which fits your memory best. You have many things in life to learn, one of them is to learn to control your commentary prior to getting the necessary experience to criticizing heroes of this 76 year old veteran. At this point in your life, if I were your Dad, I would be very sad and ashamed to have a daughter with your critical mouth. You have many lessons to learn in criticism, one of them is that it can be a very painful experience. Do you have any friends, or merely members of your current political group? Please do not shame your parents any further. May God bless you and cure you of this terrible hate of your fellow Americans. Either that or go all the way, get a job as two ladies did during the Second World War. Surely there is more room for another Axis Sally or Tokyon Rose. They were both also well spoken and use your search machine and trace their history and what happened to them after the war. Good Luck in your Compassion 101.

Two Canes is WAY off base
First of all don't start by recommending a book by a convicted felon who literally got off on a legal technicality. The man violated his commissioning oath to uphold the constitution by lying to congress. He was too cowardly to be either honest or honorable by maintaining silence or telling the truth. The man is a disgrace to the uniform.

A soldier’s duty is to follow any legal order. The duty of "we the people" is to guarantee that our military is properly used and the lives of our troops are not squandered. We the people failed our duty to the troops. The troops performed and perform their duties honorably.

Saddam Hussein
Whether you liked the man or not he was a brilliant head of state, I have more respect for Saddam than I do most of our so-called leaders.

Hal Dona.....
……why are you so vitriolic toward Lt. Col. North. First of all, you don't get "off on a technicality" when you lie to Congress. Second, and more important, the hate in your heart will devour you and, in fact, seems well on its way to your demise. Go back and read your post and see if you still recognize yourself. I truly feel sorry for you. I, also, would be careful about whom you call a coward. Remember, the man was awarded a SILVER STAR in Vietnam.
Third, what do any legal accusations have to do with any (experienced) man's ability to describe what a soldier is and/or his responsibilities.
Finally, I agree that a soldiers duty is to follow any and all legal orders. That, however, beggars the question as to what illegal order(s) has/have been given by anyone in the chain-of-command involving Iraq?
82nd Airborne Div .... don't, please, make statements like you posted at 7:04 PM without some kind of reasoning.

No Allen
ALL of us don't know that.

Thank GOD Bush is a short timer
KMC rants that he is "weary of media agencies, Hollywood producers, and the political left in America denigrating, down-grading, and degrading those who defend us." What a LIE.

The only example of this he gives is Kerry's misfired joke about President Bush. Kerry has since apologized. And anyway, it has essentially torpedoed any hope he had for nomination again in the democratic party. Its over. Re-hashing this is just a sad attempt to divert our attention to the failures of this administration's war in Iraq.

Now get over it conservatives. No one on either side of the aisle or in the MSM is denigrating, disparaging or mocking American troops. You can't find a single quote from any one with authority in the democratic party, or who has any potential for winning the democratic nomination in 2008 doing so. I wager you won't find a single editorial or respected liberal columnist in an MSM paper such as NYT, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, LA Times etc. doing so either.

KMC and other conservatives must think if they keep shouting this LIE loud enough and long enough sooner or later everyone will believe it.

The TRUTH is that it is conservatives who have been lying to the American people about this war. The majority of the poeple now see that Bush has conducted a war that has done nothing to promote American security, derail the Islamic jihadist movement, or eliminate terrorism.

In fact Bush's war in Iraq has had the complete opposite effect. Instead, over 3,000 American troops have been killed, and many more thousands of brave American volunteers have been maimed in a war that has harmed American interests, done more to generate more terrorists than kill them, and caused the opinion about the US and support for our objectives of people all over the world (not just in Islamic countries) to plummet to the lowest levels in generations.

The fact is that the majority of Americans (and our own troops) understand this means they are smart and are beginning to see through all the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld lies. It has nothing to do with some vast left wing MSM conspiracy. It has everything to do with people seeing and understanding the TRUTH about this catastrophic administration.

I have said it before, and you all know now in your hearts after the Nov. elections that it is true: George W. Bush is the most catastrophic president in our history for American interests abroad. He is the gift that keeps on giving to islamic terrorists, hezbollah, and Iran.

We should all be on our knees thanking our god or gods that there are only two more years of this disastrous administration for the US to bear. Whether the next president is republican or democrat, there can be no doubt we will all be able to breath a collective sigh or relief.
