Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The contrast between President Obama’s reaction to the murder of a late-term abortionist and the murder of a U.S. Army Recruiter could not be more stark. Obama raced to send U.S. Marshals into abortion facilities. He denounced the murder in the strongest terms in a statement which is posted on the White House website:

I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning.  However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.

I agree that we cannot resolve our differences by acts of violence. I would like to have seen such a strong statement from the Obama administration when two U.S. Army Recruiters were shot in Arkansas, one of them fatally, by a recent convert to Islam.

Obama’s reaction to this heinous act of violence in Little Rock was, to be charitable, muted. He was busily preparing to fly off to Saudi Arabia to continue his apology tour.

The blogosphere has not been so muted. Liberal blogs erupted in rage over the killing of George Tiller. They rushed to blame conservatives and pro-lifers for creating “a hostile environment” for abortionists. FOX’s Bill O’Reilly was skewered for doing a number of reports on the late-term Wichita abortionist, who had claimed as many as 60,000 unborn children killed.

Well, if liberals believe that O’Reilly bears responsibility for the killing of George Tiller, would they agree that Congressman John Murtha is guilty of creating a hostile environment for members of our all-volunteer military?

Murtha, a liberal Democrat, was most vocal in accusing our troops of war crimes in Iraq. When Marines who had fought in Haditha were brought up on charges, Murtha did not wait for the court martial or even for a proper investigation. He said: "There was no fire fight, e was no IED (improvised explosive device) that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood." The Haditha Marines were later cleared of reckless charges of murder.

Could Murtha and his fellow liberals be responsible for inflaming Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammed, the 23-year old arrested in the Arkansas shootings? The New York Times reports that, “in a lengthy interview with the police, Mr. Muhammad said he was angry about the killing of Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan, Chief Thomas said. Previously known as Carlos Bledsoe, Mr. Muhammad told investigators that he had converted to Islam as a teenager, Chief Thomas said.”

President Obama did not immediately send in U.S. Marshals to protect military recruiters, even though this Little Rock attack is hardly an isolated incident.

This is not the first time we’ve gone soft on common-sense measures for defense.

After 9/11, the U.S. Department of Transportation weighed in against proposals to arm the pilots. They raised ridiculous objections, like: “What if a pilot goes beserk in the cockpit?” Critics at the time asked pointedly: “When was the last time you heard of a postal worker going pilot?”  Since the beginning of commercial aviation in the 1920s, American pilots have had a wonderful record of protecting their passengers. Congress prevailed then. Today, by law, and with proper training, American pilots can carry weapons for our safety as well as their own.

President Obama should immediately issue orders to allow military recruiters to be armed for self-defense. They are, after all, enlisting other Americans to be members of our all-volunteer U.S. Armed Forces.

This is a critical test of Obama as Commander-in-Chief. Although he never served, he can now demonstrate his concern for our troops by allowing recruiters to carry side arms. He needs to do more than lay wreaths on their graves. They are trained. They can be trusted.

Let those who protect us protect themselves. Arm the recruiters.

A Good Solution
Excellent, Mr. Blackwell.

The perfect solution. Arm the recruiters.

Unfortunately, too few Americans know that this is war. I fear we shall be reminded again that an enemy intends to destroy us. Militant Islam is at war with us whether we admit it or not.

And our president going over there to kiss the west end of east-facing Muslims will not persuade them to like us; it will instead encourage them that our knees are buckling and that they are winning. When oh when will his campaign be over?

Arm our Military Recruiters
If Government wouldn't get in the way as the Citizenry arms itself then the recruiters, as members of the Citizenry, would be armed.

texas recruiters
would have had a number of armed responses in their favor as most here carry via concealed carry or right to protect in private property laws that allow us to carry in our homes or cars for protection. Sadly, we would likely never have learned the depressing tail of woe concerning the terrorist depraved life that would have been laid on our court system at taxpayer expense.

I disagree
" I agree that we cannot resolve our differences by acts of violence. "
WRONG.
Libs need about 50,000 more lessons. They'ell catch on eventually.

Let's face it
The dems resolve their problems with violence - ripping the baby apart and screaming and marching and forcing pigs on whomever objects.
We keep getting told we have to resolve the WOT by killing the enemy, but pathetically we are still very afraid to do so.
Time to stop acting like wimps while another 50 million babies are slaughtered and the freaks of the middle east slaughter away as well.
I guess some day we won't have apologatic tree hugging fetal position wimps yakking it up about how peaceful they are. Hopefully they will still have their children and their various body parts, including their surrender noggins.
Good job to whoever whacked Tiller. GREAT JOB !
I was definitely celebrating HUGELY, and still am.
You darn right I support it.

I consider this an outrage!!
I am deeply ashamed and saddened by the president. He is proving every day that he is unfit to serve we the people. I see that so many pundits are bending over backwards trying to make excuses for his mistakes or not even reporting them!!

And Brian Williams actually bowed to him. It's on tape on Hot Air. Insane!!

Mr. Blackwell, don't you think that if Obama truly cared about the slain soldier recruiter, HE would have suggested something himself just as you did? And he would have given a statement when he was announcing the new Army chief? His lack of reaction was heartless and cold in the extreme.

I will be working on an online America Grand Jury soon to legally force Mr. Obama to reveal to the American people his hidden records. If he is found to be a usurper, as a growing number of people suspect, then a terrible crime has been committed. This will be a tragic event. But to some of us not a huge surprise.

The picture you chose next to the column
offends me. It would be more fitting if it was of Mr. Long or his grieving family. I don't care to see the murderer, thank you! He is a muslim misanthrope.

Ignorance of Mr Blackwell
I am a recently retired Army Officer and I Commanded a recruiting Company from 2001-2003.

I do support the right of people to go about Armed in accordance with the second amendment. I am also more concerned over the shooting in America of a US Soldier by a Muslim terrorist then I am over the murder of a doctor performing late term abortions.

However there is absolutely no reason to Arm recruiters as if there was a shooting war against them on the streets. There is no call from any responsible military authority to do so.

In the case in question the Soldier killed was not a "recruiter" but a Private fresh out of initial Training. He was assisting recruiters on a temporary basis (2 weeks to a month) While he was competent to carry a rifle in combat he probably had no training on carrying a hand gun on the streets of America unless he happened to have that training from a Private non-military source.

Recruiting is a tough and challenging job. However, arming every recruiter with a government weapon would be a further burden on them and a hindrance to their mission. Recruiters simply do not need to put in extra hours to train on handguns, account for and clean service weapons, account for ammo, have the constant worry while in schools and public buildings of their weapon falling into the wrong hands etc, when they already typically work 12-16 hour days 6 days a week.

Let's do some tough interrogations of the shooter, find out who his network is, and prevent further attacks. And certainly the death sentence for the murderer (in both cases of the doctor and the Soldier).

Mr. Blackwell's call for arming recruiters just shows his lack of knowledge of military. I wonder did he call a recruiting station and get any opinions before he wrote such a sensational headline? Did he talk to a military spokesman? Or did he just run off at the mouth like a punk Monday morning quarterback that only played with toy soldiers?

Ignorance of Mr. Blackwell?
Since Mr. Blackwell gave the arming of pilots as an example, it seems clear that when he advocated arming recruiters, he was advocating allowing recruiters to be armed if they chose. (There may be something peculiar to the military that would make permitted handguns mandatory.) Allowing recruiters to carry makes sense to me since they have been targets before. And surely, a soldier of all people would be competent to carry a gun, at least in the recruiting office, if not "on the streets of America".

So what

You still speak for no one but yourself.

I agree with Ken Blackwell

"Obama raced to send U.S. Marshals into abortion facilities."

Sad day if the US Military cannot provide their own protection.

Its obvious they are now a target.

Not only

Not only should we arm the military here in the states, but we should also send them on offensive operations into the lairs of these scum where they are breeding and multiplying and eradicate them with extreme prejudice.

P.S. There are no "Ex-Marines"...with one exception. Murtha turned in his card a LONG time ago.

Talent Scout, Still Lacking Talent
...as well as sense.

Obama didn't "race to send US Marshalls into abortion facilities." For over a decade there has been a law that provides protection from the US Marshall's service for clinic facilites and personnel who provide abortions in the US. Congress passed the law to provide protection that wasn't being provided by local law enforcement, and given the organized nature of the protests and threats against abortion clinic facilities and personnel.

What's behind this eagerness to be wrong?

Could It Be True?

I heard a rumor from friends who have ties to the federal agencies that they were to told to “back off” from aggressive investigations of African American Islamists. Any one else have similar information.

Bruce
Actually, you are wrong (again)

"Police said the gunman acted alone, but US marshals have been sent to protect abortion clinics across the US amid fears of copycat attacks."

Even your leftist sites...

US Attorney General Eric Holder is dispatching US Marshals to protect abortion clinic and doctors around the country.

We'll await your apology.

Thank you Ken.
As someone who spent a third of his life in the uniform of this country, your suggestion is spot on.

We military folks don't mind putting our lives on the line in overseas combat, it's what we signed up for, but with the current climate in this country they shouldn't have to take that chance at home.

Tinsldr2, police officers have to protect their weapons the same way you describe, why not our own?
Aren't their lives just as valuable?

For the "CinC" to not have spoken a word on the cold-blooded murder of one of our brave troopers speaks volumes about his character and his priorities.....disgraceful!

I pray for my grandson in the USMC and all the troops, I am disgusted however that so many people in this country are simply not worthy of their sacrifice.

I Was Wrong
Icedog posts some items that show I was wrong.

My apology.

Chainsaw
This campaign will never be over as long as we have a CinC who is so weak in the knees like O-man. More of our men will die until we show these scum that we mean to destroy them if they keep coming! We just lost a man here in Eastlake to the war and all here feel it is a terrible loss as are all the deaths of our troops.

Pvt William Long age 23
Pvt William Long age 23
Why didn't the media cover the brutal killing of Pvt. William Long. My prayers go out to his family.
How could the president decry the murder of Tiller, but say NOTHING about the murder of one soldier and the injuring of another in Little Rock (part of America's heartland) Both were committed by religious extremist. Why the double standard! Obama needs to answer to America. Oh I forgot, he is to busy apolgizing to the muslims and can't offend them. I have no hope and I hate this change!

U.N. Threatens Prosecution of Rumsfeld, Bush Over Gitmo

Wednesday, June 3, 2009 2:15 PM

GENEVA — Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld could be in trouble soon for the role he played in human rights abuses committed in the Guantanamo prison, a United Nations expert said Wednesday.
"In a year or two, his responsibilities will be established. Wherever he goes, he will face difficulties," Leandro Despouy, who is special rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, told journalists in Geneva.
A bipartisan Senate report released late last year found Rumsfeld and other top administration officials responsible for abuse of Guantanamo detainees.

It said Rumsfeld authorized harsh interrogation techniques on Dec. 2, 2002, at the Guantanamo prison, although he ruled them out a month later.
Despouy said the "strong resistance" of the Bush administration to President Barack Obama's decision to close the detention center has nothing to do with the officially cited reason of "national security" considerations.

Rather, they fear they may be taken to task once the detention centre is closed, said Despouy.

The U.N. expert urged the international community to back Obama's decision to close the prison.

We may soon see where many Americans' loyalty lies....with our own citizens or with a World Court.

Many of our own citizens hate the Bush Administration much more than they do our real enemies. We will finally see who they are.

Bruce
Thanks for stepping up and admitting to a mistake - a rare quality nowadays.

tinsldr2
You state that you are a recently retired Officer. That indicates that you are an Officer and a "Gentleman" by act of Congress. Your tirade against Mr Blackwell, who, by the way, is on your side, shows that an act of Congress does not always a gentleman make.

tinsldr2
Happily, You are retired. I have a son on active duty and another in the reserve. I am relieved that they will not run the chance of suffering from your leadership.

Seawolf and Police
Military Recruiters and Soldiers in the States are not Police (unless they are MP's and then they go armed).

Seawolf writes: "Tinsldr2, police officers have to protect their weapons the same way you describe, why not our own?"

Police (and MP's) are trained to use handguns, and use them as part of their official duties. Along with this goes time at ranges and refresher training.

A police officers job is to confront violent people. A Soldiers job in a hostile environment such as Iraq is to confront hostile people. While in Iraq (two tours, and Bosnia and Kosovo once each)I carried a weapon 24/7 like every other Soldier and Officer. It was a neccesary tool of the job.

A Soldiers job in recruiting is to go into public, meet people and tell the benifits of service to the next generation of Hereos. Carrying a weapon simply would not aid in that mission and would increase time requirements on one of the most stressful and time consuming jobs in the Army.

Obviously like talent scout said I speak for myself but unlike him or Mr Blackwell I WAS an Army Recruiting Officer and understand the challenges recruiters face. I would wager that 90% of the Army recruiters out there today are more concerned about making their monthly recruiting missions then the need to Arm themselves.

I think it's significant that Bruce …
… from Illinois is wrong about this, his characteristically heady self-rectitude notwithstanding.

He took that same condescending attitude on the recent Chuck Norris thread about the threat of state interference with Bible studies and other individual liberties.

Bruce says the warnings of Norris and others about looming government encroachment on individual liberties in the Obama Age are merely the paranoid rantings of what he calls heavy-breathers or some such.

Bruce actually believes the government liars when they claim their tactics involve, say, only land-use, zoning and the like. They have no interest in regulating our right to association or religion, because the Bill of Rights guarantee these liberties, and if there is one thing state bureaucrats ALWAYS honor, its the Bill of Rights.

We're from the government, and we're here to help.

Bruce tried to tell me that his own misguided church is making nice with the zoning SS, with no harmful results.

Give it time.

People like Bruce vex me, because we know what ignoring history inevitably leads to. Humankind has suffered his type before. His detestable custom of pooh-poohing those who point out the red flags was seen among many who were useful to the Third Reich.

Bruce is the kind of guy who is always right. Until someone like Icedog comes along and proves him wrong.

But Bruce's type of naivete and dopiness always endangers others. And that boils my blood.

Blind justice?
I'm not at all shocked by Obama's or any of the luney lefties' comments. They automatically believe that anyone who doesn't agree with them is not only crazy, but dangerous.

Freedom of expression was won at great cost; too bad it's been lost for those who don't fall in lock step with our 21st century False Messiah. Wake up people!!!

It's Not Just Murtha . . .
who is culpable in the attack on the Little Rock military recruiting center. The leftist media, especially as exemplified by MSNBC and in particular Keith Olbermann, has also fanned the flames of anti-military hatred by parroting the MoveOn / Code Pinko / ANSWER party line of our soldiers being "cold-blooded murderers."

Thanks for the laugh midfielder
Thanks, I appreciated the chuckle this morning. As a recently (am on terminal leave official date is still 30 June 09)retired officer with 17 years commisioned service and 4 years enlisted time (plus 5 years enlisted reserve) I do appreciate your sense of humor.

Obviously you were just joking in your comments because I am sure that you would never suggest that to be a Gentleman one can not have a difference of opinion?

If Mr Blackwell was on the side of the recruiters he would have sought out input from the recruiters and recruiting command before suggesting something for which they are not asking. Like any issue he would have found some that support his opinion but an overwhelming majority of them would not.

Of course off duty time recruiters like anyone else can go to ranges, hunt, and carry. I shoot, hunt and fish for fun myself.

To be a conservative, like I am, you do not have to fall lockjaw instep with every idea of every other conservative.

Bill O'Reilly did an EXCELLENT article and comments pointing out the overwhelming and shameful way the media covered the Dr's Killing while ignoring the first terrorist Killing in the US under Pres. Obama. This is a very valid point and needs to be made.

IMO Mr Blackwell does make a good job pointing out the hypocrisy of the media but just attempts to SENSATIONALIZE his piece by saying the recruiters should be armed. Note how that is the headline of his article but then very little of his space is devoted to the actual rationale of Arming the Recruiters. What about the rest of the Soldiers that will be off base eating lunch today, or traveling in airports or in uniform? Is he not on their side also?

No Equal Justice.

This is why we need Vigilanti Justice.

Tiller is shot and U.S. Marshalls rush to protect and secure abortion clinics accross the land.

Army Recruiter shot and and no additional protection is provided un-armed military recruiters.

The world according to Liberals. Some Americans are more equal than others.

Arm our recruiters
Yer darn tootin'! Contrary to what TinSoldier tries to purport, even those lib-tard-hated recruiters have 2nd Amendment Rights under our Constitution! His parsing of the differences between the (para-military) police and our military merely exposes his willful ignorance. IF you were actually ever a military officer, I thank Heaven above you've been cashiered! Your stance, in violation of the Oath you took as an (alleged by you) military officer, would see you up on court-martial charges!
The "Muslim Messiah's" behavior towards responding to a abortionist's death and a soldier's death may well be affected by his delusion that the US is "the largest muslim nation in the world". I guess he's never read any of the multitude of news articles or national polls that state 87% of American identify themselves as CHRISTIANS! (maybe he was too occupied with pandering to his muslim masters and bowing to their leaders!)
BTW TinSoldier, I'm a REAL Army veteran! (and Patriot)

Joel and rights of Soldiers
First off, as you well know Soldiers (and that includes Officers) give up many of their rights when they join. For example an officer can not make a disrespectful speech about the President. He could be charged under the UCMJ if he does so even though the FIRST AMENDMENT guarantees the right of freedom of speech. The same is true for a junior Soldier who calls his NCO or Officer a foul word. It is a punishable offence that would not be prosecuted in the civilian world. Also religious freedoms are curtailed for the Good of the Army and Search and Seizure rights are different for soldiers. Not to mention we don’t allow Soldiers to be fat, members of extremist organizations, have gang tattoos etc, all of which are “rights” of citizens.
There is a BIG difference between a Soldier who desires to carry a weapon, qualifies to carry with a concealed weapons permit, and has a personal firearm and the gov ISSUING a weapon. If you are a SF officer then you know the amount of paperwork, arms room requirements, training certification and bureaucratic BS that goes on in the conventional Army regarding weapon handling. That is an unnecessary burden on an overworked recruiting unit.
AS for the recruiters themselves remember they come from all Military specialties and are in all types of shapes. I had a female recruiter that weighed about 90 Lbs wet and was afraid of her shadow and a male recruiters that had specialties such as satellite technician that a strong wind could knock over. On the other hand I had some combat arms NCOs that could handle any situation they might find themselves in.
The issue is not second Amendment rights but whether "President Obama should immediately issue orders to allow military recruiters to be armed for self-defense. " the recruiters already CAN carry under the 2nd Amendment if they have the training and permit. There simply is no reason for them to get government issued weapons. The situation does not call for it.

Tinsldr2
The bottom line for me is that everyone should have the right to carry arms if they wish. I also disagree with your premises somewhat.

Almost everyone in the military has a modicum of small arms training. As a retired Navy Officer, I'm very well trained (expert) in .45, .38, and 9MM (not to mention M16 and CAR15). On a training exercise at Fairchild AFB, I even received the Air Force small arms expert ribbon; although I'm not impressed with their LASER tag qualifying.

I don't believe my experience is unique. I also go with the "an armed society is a polite society."

Joel and Soldiers Rights

AD CCW holders
It truly is a shame that all Active Duty Military members, including those who are licensed CCW holders, are prohibited from carrying to, from, and while "on-duty" unless specifcally authorized by the installation commander in the performance of their official duties, i.e, security/law enforcement. Just one more of the rights those who serve "give-up" for their country.

Don and Handgun training
Don writes "The bottom line for me is that everyone should have the right to carry arms if they wish. I also disagree with your premises somewhat.

Almost everyone in the military has a modicum of small arms training. "

Like I said I agree with the right of a person to Arm themselves. My disagreement is the call for the Arming of recruiters. As a Military officer that means ISSUING them a gov Sidearm. That is two entirely seperate things.

Secondly the overwhelming majority of enlisted Soldiers in the Army have no "military" training in the use of handguns. All shoot rifles, and many shoot Machineguns, Anti-tank weapons, greande launchers, mortars and Artillery. very few shoot pistols of any sort unless they do so on their own time. From about 1985 when I was an enlisted SPC until I got my first Command as a CPT in 1999 (Germany and Kosovo) I carried an M-16 and never trained on a handgun. That is the MAJORITY of soldiers experience. Also training for combat in Iraq and Afghanistan is a lot different then walking in a school trying to talk to Seniors about the benifits of service.

Again why the focus on recruiters? When Muslim terrorists killed American Soldiers in a bomb blast in a Berlin Disco our greatest President of the 20th century didnt ban discos or arm Soldiers drinking in bars. He attacked the Muslim terrorists.

Opposed to vigilantism, but…

When the legal system fails, it’s time for citizens to arm themselves and band together.

So far obambi has:

- Stopped the prosecution of the USS Cole bombing planners.
- Released three Black Panthers accused of voter intimidation.
- Ended the 9/11 lawsuit against the Saudi Royal families for funding al qaeda.

And we're supposed to believe him when he promises to prosecute terrorists (or is that "Man-made-disasterists").

Pay heed my friends. This usurper is LITERALLY letting his muslim allies get away with murder.

Eastlake Joe & Tinsldr2
Eastlake Joe:

It was a rhetorical question as you no doubt realized: Of course Obama’s campaign will never end, just as Bill Clinton’s never has. Sorry to hear about your fallen man; I salute him. I think our problems started in Korea when we first learned how to abandon thoughts of victory and first exercised restraining our military by setting limits on their options. There we first learned to allow places of safe haven for the enemy rather than destroying them. We set rules upon ourselves while the enemy had no such rules. (Compare now Japan and North Korea—was our full defeat of Japan worth it—even use of the atomic bomb? YES.) And yet to this day we still play at war, forgetting that victory has purpose. If a war is justified, then win it. If it is not justified, don’t commit to it. If the war is one-sided against us and we won’t acknowledge it, then surrender to sharia law and get your women burkas.

Other:

Tinsldr2 wrote with an air presumed superiority regarding what he termed “the ignorance of Mr. Blackwell”. He then went on to justify his own opinion by stating that there is no call from any responsible military authority to do so (to arm recruiters). Well, keep in mind that it wasn’t exactly airline company executives and heads of the FAA who advocated that pilots perhaps ought to carry weapons in the cockpit. Sometimes the best and most logical and common-sense-based solutions do not come down from ivory towers from those who are politically at risk. To remind everyone: we are at war—a war proclaimed first by Islamic extremists and only belatedly acknowledged by our government after we lost over 3,000 souls. If a recruiter, properly trained with accompanying mandatory routine practice, elects to carry a .45, let him. I trust the military recruiters more than I do those who want to claim the prize of a dead soldier in uniform.

What If?
I think the outcome would have been much different had these two recruiters were armed.
I guarantee you this, it won't happen again.

Second Amendment posts
Very well stated, Joel-De Oppresso Liber.

Thank you.

And Tinsldr2, I disagree with you. You say:
"[T]he recruiters already CAN carry under the 2nd Amendment if they have the training and permit. There simply is no reason for them to get government issued weapons."

-- But the Second Amendment, to my mind, in fact forbids such infringements as you cite: "training and permit." Those represent mere government-speak and bureaucratic prevarication.

Thus, you seem to support unconstitutional and "government-issued" infringements on Second Amendment liberties, while at the same time opposing "government-issued weapons."

That makes no sense, especially as you claim to support the Second Amendment.

Tinsldr
This was not nearly so isolated an event as much of the mainstream media would like us to believe. How many more recruiting offices must be firebombed or otherwise attacked, or how many recruiters must be personally attacked, before you believe that recruiting offices and recruiters, as the most visible local military presence, are targets for those who are anti-war, anti-military, or both?

Leaving that aside, however, the disparity in Obama's response to the killing of Tiller and the killing of the recruiter is absolutley appalling, especially considering that his #1 job is to be Commander-in-Chief of our military. He does not have a clue.

Someone Who Has Been There
The former commander of a recruiting company would have been a Captain at the time. I worked for tons of those, they came, and they went. I served as a Army Reserve recruiter, working in regular Army stations for an inordinate amount of time, thirteen years, going from Los Angeles and then to Denver. We had a saying at the time, (pre-Desert Storm, that we were the only soldiers with a combat mission. In the Denver area I served in three different stations, and one of them was Boulder, one of the most anti-military, liberal cities in the nation. And yet, I was able to get recruits and won "Recruiter of the year" more than once. (Just be honest, I always said). But I also had rocks through the window, red paint on the walls, and protests with signs. But I would walk proudly across the campus in my uniform, and none of those types ever dared to say anything to my face. Oh, how I wanted to carry a gun, but...you've read the rules. OFF DUTY though, look out. I had one then, and I STILL carry, constantly. The Army is so paranoid about weapons that even men 'safe' on post are at total risk. A while back, some Muslims plotted to go onto an Army base and attack the soldiers. This would have been tragic. They, for the most part, would have been able to enter the base through a gate with probably a wave of the hand, then gotten out of their car during a morning formation in front of barracks, and MOWED down soldiers, all in a row, like they were ready and waiting. The soldier's arms? Locked up in some room, out of touch. But the news of these plotters was buried on the back pages of the liberal press, along with the killing of the Recruiter assistant. Anyhow, there is another third-term abortion provider located in Boulder, and during the protests of Tiller carried out on US 54 in front of his clinic in the 90s, I was stationed in Wichita. I feel like I have been intertwined in all this, and can do nothing, except write. See you all at the next 'Tea Party.'

Tinsldr2
You make some valid points, but copycats lurk everywhere.

These Islamic radicals can often be classified in the category of "monkey see, monkey do" and I fear that this will happen again, if we're not vigilant.

Since many of the recruiting offices for each branch of the military are next to each other, I think that arming our recruiters or perhaps having an armed MP/SP at each recruiting station, would at least be a deterrent. This should not be too large a burden if these guards are chosen each branch, i.e. army MP covers these three clustered offices, AF SP covers another two or three, etc.

In combat, our troops have the ability to fight back, most of the time. They should have no less ability if they are assigned to recruiting duties.

Bruce & John
Having armed MP at the recruiting stations might be a good way to go--especially in times of war, such as now. The recruiter could also be allowed to carry, but security could be assigned primarily to MPs. Let them know we are serious.

We risk presenting the appearance of military impotence if we set recruiters up as easy targets.

As for recruiters being allowed to carry already under the 2nd Amendment, I would be curious to know what specific military regulations state regarding this. I would think that this has been fully addressed. John--your experience indicates that you had rules to the contrary regarding carry options. Could you confirm?

WHO WOULD JESUS SHOOT?
If carrying a gun makes you so safe then how did four cops get shot by one dirtbag? Having armed guards posted at banks doesn't stop robberies. That paranoid nutcase in Philly- How many armed police did he kill- wasn't it four? I hope they didn't take away his gun, he might get really mad!

I know I could shoot only the right ones, but hey I'm that good. If you carry constantly and yet you've never used it to protect yourself, maybe you're just not in the 24 episode so many here seem to think exists.
There are boogeymen everywhere, are you frightened like little Sean Hannity? He's scared of everything and is proud of it. I don't need a gum to make my day, I will survive and paranoia will kill you. Buck up.
True Americans are NOT AFRAID!

An excerpt from an AP article
CAIRO (AP) - Quoting from the Quran for emphasis, President Barack Obama called for a "new beginning between the United States and Muslims" Thursday and said together, they could confront violent extremism across the globe and advance the timeless search for peace in the Middle East.

. . . . .

I wonder what peace-loving quote he found that expressed compatibility with others. The article had 6 photos--count them: 6--of Obama. This incestuous love affair between the media and the administration is getting mighty old.

I'm off the boards and the 'net for today. Can't stand any more focus on what's his name.

Can Recruiters Carry?
Chainsaw and other, no, recruiters can not carry. I believe TinSoldier stated that in a later post. I carried off duty constantly, and this occurred after the incident in the Ft Hood area, Waco, TX where a domestic terrorist ran his truck through a wall at Luby's Restaurant and proceeded to systematically shoot everyone in the place. People hid under tables, waiting for him to come, to them. An Army Lt. Colonel was among the dead. At that time, Texas had no carry concealed law. That has since changed. But after hearing about that incident, I swore that I would never be caught without a weapon. Better to answer in court later we right-wingers say.

well-armed militia?
really? Recruiters can't carry? So members of our military;--"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State," --are not allowed to bear arms??

Is this not, "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms," being infringed upon?

We still have a constitution--don't we???

SPEAKING OF LUBY'S
There was a woman inside the restaurant who was carrying a gun in her purse. But as God would have it, it was out of her reach. So I guess God was on the gunman's side AGAIN!
And how long has it been Gunday now. Every Sun...Gunday there's another shooting at church, or a nursing home. These are becoming more dangerous that the Gunbars around here. Beer, Bullets, and Bibles. Give me an AMEN for the AK!
John- how many liberals have you kil-er defended our country from? I think you read Gunhouse Forum and love the Gun too much , if there can be such a thing.

This little escapade
is part of the War on Terror, and the muzzie who fired is the enemy, plain and simple.
If our military won't arm our soldiers against the enemy, they are a disgrace to command over the uniform.
The enemy is in our streets, we just don't know how few or many.
Here it is - the war on terror - this one took a hit at the military. Maybe he wasn't quite fully converted, and would never attack civilians as an islamic move, but I wouldn't wager on that.
It's a shame that our military has left our enlisted, recruiters, defenseless, on our streets. The enemy is here. Not much to discuss really.
When did they ever become disarmed to begin with ? That's my question. How could it ever happen to begin with ? Gun shops have guns all over the place, what is the problem here ?
Far too much of the sheeple, even the military, bleating PC law code ?
This is disgusting.

DOUG RICH

You ask, "If carrying a gun makes you so safe then how did four cops get shot by one dirtbag? Having armed guards posted at banks doesn't stop robberies."

I can answer that. Because the Police Officers did not follow their training. Police skills are perishable. Officers often let their guards down. Particularly in Liberal communities where aggressive policing is discouraged. Officers need constant and frequent training to stay on top of their game.

In Liberal communities, the funding for this training is frequently cut or reduced so many officers are placed at risk. Bad guys have the edge because they know who the cops are because they wear a uniform.

This is not the case with private citizens. They frequently have the advantage because the bad guys don't know who they are and if they are carrying a weapon.

So now that you are better educated on the subject, I trust you will be open minded enough to respect the right of people to defend their lives.

Verbivore
" well-armed militia?
really? Recruiters can't carry? So members of our military;--"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State," --are not allowed to bear arms?? "
--
Yeah well the argument is no standing army no doubt, I suppose. Recruiter stations are in small strip malls around here - so the PC bleating libs get their way.
I think a sidearm per recruiter and a carry permit are just fine. Let's face it - congresspersons tote around their appliances and Rosie ODonnel and other hogs have their armed entourage.
If our elite masters can have hired packers, I really can't figure how a military station, even if in a former strip mall store can't have sidearms for their own defense against the islamic enemy on our streets.
All these special permissions the powrful get, and our recruiting soldiers are kept defenseless. Not really making two and two to me. Not like the military recruiting soldiers are under orders to hold, contain, move, or oppose the public.
It's a simple and decent minded thing like the right to self defense, and frankly fits the profile of "military".
The defanged chicken public, though, that and the powerful arrogant elite, those two problems are really, really bad news.

No, I think you're a liar.
You actually expect us to believe this ?
" I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. "
---
Well, I'm not that stupid. If that's true you have a real problem. A mental problem. Either you're a liar, or you're too far gone to be counted on for anything.
What you did was smile wide. You enjoyed it. Then you grabbed hold of your best PC face, and started protecting "yourself and your party position" - just like the dems started screaming from the other side.
All politics, all lies.
---
The truth is it was justice long denied by our government and the dem masters all about it.
It was a nice break in the long death march we're all SUPPOSED to endorse.
Whatever, be proud you're such a good liar.

Obama in a tizzy about ole Doc Tiller
but not a word about soldier killer.

Would Obama be so crass as to use the killing of Dr Tiller to demonize those who are pro life? Of course! Would he be such a sniveling coward wishing not to offend muslims that he would remain silent when a terrorist kills a uniformed US soldier. Sadly very true.

Our president who would try to protray himself as a great moralist who would never pinch a terrorist to obtain vital info just so he can claim that Bush/Cheney were evil personified.

In short morality for our messiah simply comes down to playing dirty politics.

SHOCKED?
As I said earlier, church is the best place for cowards to carry out revenge killing. After all, even if they're not Unitarians, most church's don't have magnetometers yet, and aren't inclined to hire armed, trained personnel. Like the Mega Church in Colorado, One true "Christianist" can slaughter the sheep with a righteous gun, and I don't care if the entire congregation is armed, it's a circular firing squad. I think crazy people like Dag are the best reason for the nChurch of the New Gun Life. God tells him who should live and who should be "thinned from the herd" If he were a J.W., blood transfusioners would all have to die.
Christian Scientists are just like him, God tells them that science is for LIBERALS and if you have Diabetes you have to die. Why not help 'em out Dag?
I on the other hand Know The Way Truth and Light. Trust me when I tell you who should live and who you should kill.

Ken Blackwell
Let's call this tit for tat and get on with
something else. The United States has always
had its share of bizarros.

Critical test for Obama
You jest. Obama is on a mission of change - not the kind many here want. If he even cares, which I doubt, his handlers are making sure what is and is not said regarding this matter.

Hey tinsoldr;s
is one of us..and we don't have the experience he has, so I would cut him some slack and his remarks to Mr. Blackwell were emotion..I've admired his posts since I first began posting here. His have always been sensible. And he does make some sense although at first I tended to agree with Mr. Blackwell. I would think that
while our recruiters should stay as they are, the government could ensure their protection if Marshalls can be deployed at Murder Inc's across the land, then i would think they could be stationed at or nearby our recruiting offices. Then the burden would be off our recruiters freeing them to do the job they are tasked to do.

Seawolf..Your grandson and mine deployed as a 'doc' to the USMC. Psalm 91.

I think we know the reason the anointed one didn't deign to dirty his girly hands on anything connected with the U.S. military..he couldn't make his concession speech to the M.E. if he'd reacted. And HE is so much more important than Pvt. Long or the young man wounded with him. Magicmessiahs are that way you know..Me, Myself and I. And as the grandmother of active duty Navy and mother of Navy vets, mom in law of a Navy vet (WAVE) and wife of a Navy VET I am outraged that this
cold, calculating nincompoop has nothing to say about this atrocity. Yet, can speechify about Tiller the Killer (and I MAKE no apologies to any libtroid, for calling him what he was, within 7 hours of his dimise. He gained the whole world, did Tiller the Killer, but he did'nt profit much, at the cost of his own soul.

"These are the times
that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.

Tyranny, like hell is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph....

Up and help us; lay your shoulder to the wheel;
THE HEART THAT FEELS NOT NOW, IS DEAD."

Thomas Paine "The American Crisis"

http://americangrandjury.org There's no time to waste.

Having read
the rest of the posts, while I still think
Tinsoldr has a valid point I am wondering now,
that even though the Magicmessiah denies it along with his wimpy fellow travelers, we have been in a state of war since 1979 at least with the islamists.
And given the fact that the intell experts haven't ever predicted 'IF" but "WHEN" we get hit again. And given the fact we have 35 training camps in our own country, training
the inmates with firearms and explosives. And given the fact that there a multitudes of
prison inmates being converted. We have to conclude that the United States is a combat area and likely to explode literally and figuratively anytime now we have an apologetic wimp impersonating a president, therefore there should be appropriate measure to protect our recuriting stations. Be it U.S. Marshalls or
military police. And CCW is a good idea also
because maybe then Pvt Long and his companion would not be dead or wounded. I am so disgusted that O couldn't bring himself to offer condolences to the families.
I called my DemonRAT Congress Critter and let them know what I thought about the O's neglect of the Little Rock murder and his bemoaning the
loss of one sadistic killer. (Guess he's really bemoaning the loss of all that money he got under the table from Tiller the Killer.) This
incident should not be allowed to fade, the elected should be called and called and called.

David, What's More Significant
...is how often you're wrong, regardless of my attitude.

There's no "government love" involved in correctly discerning a zoning issue--it's preferable to know what's happening and not intentionally over-react. It's a sad fallacy that the person who is the most afraid is the one who's the most right.

The condescension you think you hear--that's your problem, not mine. I'm just another person you've been mistakenly told not to like, and you're certainly free to make that mistake as often as you like, unencumbered by any zoning OR 1st Amendment restrictions...

Armed Recruiters? Its their choice
Since when does one abandon Constitutional Rights upon entering military service? If a military recruiter wants to be armed, that’s their choice. And as a retired Cdr. USN, I say it’s a good choice.

Fine but
No problems with them being armed...want to give them side arms, fine. But really this is a pretty pointless article to a really non-issue. Military recruiters are hardly open-season. How many have been shot, stabbed or murdered in say the last 5 years? Utility meter readers and agriculture inspectors probably face more danger.

It was a senseless murder by a crazy person, but senseless murders happen on a fairly regular basis in the US. Slow news day or something?

DOUG, you are RICH
"WHO WOULD JESUS SHOOT?"

-- Don't worry about it.

"If carrying a gun makes you so safe then how did four cops get shot by one dirtbag?"

-- The dirtbag got the drop on 'em. It's generally MUCH easier for a dirtbag to premeditate a killing and then carry it out than it is for a cop to intuit or predict that said dirtbag is intent on killing him.

You CAN follow this, can't you? I have to ask, because your post makes it obvious that we can't presume your intelligence level rises to the lower-normal ranges.

"Having armed guards posted at banks doesn't stop robberies.:

-- Not always, but it does beat not having them there at all, doesn't it? How much business would you like to conduct in an environment where all banks are gun-free zones? Can you follow this so far?

"That paranoid nutcase in Philly- How many armed police did he kill- wasn't it four? I hope they didn't take away his gun, he might get really mad!"

-- I suspect you're straining for some wit there. You'll never make it. I hope they take away your keyboard.

"I know I could shoot only the right ones, but hey I'm that good."

-- Well, hey, that's great. Can we talk you into starting with yourself?

"If you carry constantly and yet you've never used it to protect yourself, maybe you're just not in the 24 episode so many here seem to think exists."

-- What?

"There are boogeymen everywhere, are you frightened like little Sean Hannity?"

-- YOU are a bit scary, yeah.

"I don't need a gum to make my day, I will survive and paranoia will kill you. Buck up.

-- I'm sure you don't. Real men, who have the testosterone you lack, are protecting you with THEIR guns, so that you can get on with your girly life.

True Americans are NOT AFRAID!

Doug. First learn to proof read your posts so you dont look like a fool. But perhaps I give you too much credit.
As to your basic premise; we can therefore assume you also dont believe in automobile insurance, health & accident insurance, home owners insurance or life insurance. Sounds like a plan to me Doug. Go for it...... LMAO

Re: Your remarks about the Luby’s restaurant shooting: Wrong again Doug! She was NOT carrying a gun in the restaurant. Learn to get your facts straight so you dont continue looking like the fool that you likely are.

Joel, John, et al.
Thanks for the insightful posts. I never did recruiting duty, so all my information about it is second- or third-hand.

The constitutional issues are certainly vital, but I have a more basic and purely practical question: Why do we bother having armed forces if we've become so fastidious that we can no longer bear to let them go about _armed_?

I realize that we mustn't routinely thrust members of the armed forces into situations where they might have to perform law-enforcement functions off base. On the other hand, they ought to be able to protect themselves and the public property entrusted to them. One imagines that the thought of encountering personnel trained, equipped, and authorized to return fire effectively would dissuade many terrorists from attacking recruiting offices.

Here is the best reason everyone
Needs to be armed.

Sean Hannity talks to Martin Mawyer (Christian Action Network), producer of the new documentary film, Homegrown Jihad, about the 35 Islamic terrorist training compounds that exist right here in America.
Actual video of terrorist cells training to kill on American soil. They have recruiting bases on university campuses, and some of their training camps in America are as large as 300 acres.

There are over 35 terrorist compounds in our nation. This is about the spread of homegrown terrorists in our backyard. The group, Muslims of America, have established 35 compounds in the U.S.

http://faultlineusa.blogspot.com/2009/03/video-35-islamic-t errorist-training.html

35 Terrorist training camps and they are not even mentioned in the Media or "Homeland" Security.

They are going unreported and what good reason could there be for that.

There is no good reason for the Press to ignore these terrorists and spend barrels of ink about "pro life" people being watched.

Get ready and be armed.
Nothing good is coming our way with this sort of cover-up

Oh Doug Doug Doug, in a pinch women want a real man-obvious you're one of those little smarmy fellows with a few hairs hanging of your chin that you like to call a goatee. Hang out at Starbucks with the masculine gals do you?

JUVENILE DELIQUINTS NO TALENTS
Micheal Wiener AKA Savage laughs all the way to the bank making fun of conservatives, you're just to dumb to get it. It's called SATIRE and the more you listen the funnier he is. Get a clue folks, it's an act and he's a LIBERAL! The Savage Weiner.

God Bless All Our beloved Troops
Yes, All who are in uniform, should be able to defend, guard, and provide protection. Thus, they have to be armed to ward off and safeguard; conseqently withstand all hostility.
Our country is in great peril.

Should Recruiters Carry
How could our president care so little about the death of a man serving our country. We only make a big deal out of a death if it please the liberals.

Doug Rich(?)
That O-man's not a citizen isn't working, but now we have a Colonel with a case before the supreme court and a whole town in Ga. Could this be why O-man is rushing everything through so fast? Is he afraid someone IS going to force him to open his complete files? They did Bush.

Ignore Doug Rich
Doug Rich appears to be from Washington state. Hey, is that not one of the most liberal areas of the nation? He has had enough air time on here. I think it is 'rich' that he wants to know how many liberals I have killed. (Personally, I am not supposed to say anything like this, but I hope Tiller felt a little PAIN in his gut or wherever he got shot before he expired. Think of all the pain he caused 9 month old children as he exposed their skull (yeah, there) and sucked the brains out. Think of that, and does anyone, ANYONE want to snivel for Tiller?) Mr Rich probably never served a day in his life in the military. I've done my time, my son recently returned from 13 months of M1 tank in Samarrah, Iraq. My younger son is planning to serve. My dad served, hell, my granddad served. Rich, what say boy, done any good for your country? (Don't bother to answer). You mentioned Hannity. As far as Hannity, he talks a good talk, but I am sick of hearing him say "I drive a Cadillac Hybrid, the best car in the world." That makes him sound so childish. They probably pay him to say it, but does he really need the money? Now Glenn Beck, there's the guy to listen to.

One More Thing Tonight
Someone up there posted links to where you can go to read about terrorist training sites in the USA. I haven't had time to go look yet, but be aware of this: Saudi money, billions, is being spent to build MOSQUES all over the USA. The one in Atlanta reportedly has an 85 foot spire. Those mosques will be breeding grounds for the people, when they become numerous enough, who will be out protesting OPENLY ON THE STREETS, like in Britain, against our government. And ultimately, well, anyone remember the bombing at the London Airport, the train bombing in Madrid, the open riots and fires in France, the...?
When an "Atlanta investor" wanted to build a mosque in a posh area near Birmingham, AL, the local folk went to a city meeting and protested. But they had to be politically correct and used complaints like traffic, etc. But the Birmingham News, a writer there, called those people RACISTS! Racist is a word the enemy, liberals, Islamics and others will use against us. It is one of those words, like DIVERSITY, that when used, might prove to be more powerful than AK 47s to defeat America.

ABORTION THE SACRAMENT OF THE LEFT

.....I would not have advocated for TILLER'S death but his passing will get no tears from me ...I would like to see his casket placed in the dumpster behind his clinic and the funeral procession behind the dump truck out to the landfill where he sent the little corpses of his victims ...

.....The Left treats abortion "butchers" (I won't dignify their profession by calling them doctors ...doctors are supposed to save life), as if they were high priests in a cult of death where abotions are sacrifices on the altar of their twisted religion .....COLOSSUS

condolences or condemantion?
I've not seen yet any condolences from the WH or DOJ on these murders. I don't consider it a coincidence or 'toos busy'. I do see racism at work here.

Tiller's murderer--white Christian
Recruiter murderer--black Muslim.

Number for the WH comments (you talk to a real person after the auto answer) 202.456.1111

a real no-brainer
I'm a liberal Democrat who has absolutely no problem with military recruiters being armed. They are, after all, members of the armed forces of this country , and I fail to see why they should not be able to carry while they are doing their job. If they had been allowed to carry, a young man might not now be dead.

The real villian
is the mainstream media in their lack of reporting the incident. Several of my liberals NBC watching friends are not even aware of it, however they're all up on Dr. Tiller's death. Disgusting.

A better solution:
Respect the Constitution, repeal 20,000 gun control laws, and let the recruiters arm themselves.

Obama's Attorney General will dismiss
This man should be tried as a spy for Al Quaeda and treated under military law. He deserves to be added to the Guantanamo Monster collection. Add all of the new home grown monsters to the long list of people who have commited acts of terror designed to advocate, undermine, or overthrow the government of the United States of America.

WOW!
I was unaware that military recruiters were unarmed. Heck, they are soldiers for goodness sake. Let's see, the cop in the local town can be armed, and here in AZ anyone can have a sidearm on or in his belt (not concealed), but a soldier cannot be armed? This is INSANITY at it's worst.

As far as a pilot being armed, if he has a death wish HE has control of the plane, a much bigger weapon than a pistol! What idiots debate these stupid points? We have a friend who is a pilot for a major airline and he must take off his shoes and go through a metal detector before he boards to ready the plane for takeoff! How STOOPID is that?

Also, am I the only one who thinks
that maybe Dr. Tiller was murdered by an Obama lover or crony in order to place "right wing radicals" in a bad light? After all, anyone who has studied history knows that the communists/facists/marxists and liberals will eat their young when it suits their greater purpose?

Connection?
My Opinions only:
I've read nearly all the posts, and I have yet to see anyone connect Murtha, and his accusations of our troops intentionally killing
(murdering?) innocent Iraqi civilians.
Since Murtha has never received any penalty
(reputation, status, financial, etc) for his
unfounded accusations, which led to individual trials for each of those troops ALL OF WHICH WERE FOUND NOT GUILTY, wouldn't some terrorist
believe Murtha to be right?
So, why wouldn't a sicko native terrorist
think... Gee, ALL the military are the same. It
MUST BE SO, otherwise, the accuser, Murtha, would have been brought to justice for making false accusations, ruining the careers of some
military, costing the tax-payers umpteen $$$$$
for the trials. But look: Murtha was exempted
from the trials, so the accused didn't get to
face their accuser (Constitution?) As I get it,
he is also exempted from any possible civil suits which those found innocent might bring against him. SO?
Surely, Murtha MUST BE RIGHT! They (our GIs)
intentionally kill (murder) Muslims, so I will
"do my duty" and nip them in the bud: before they enter the military. Kill the Recruiters and no one will want to enist. Wouldn't that make sense to a home-grown terrorist?
Under the "hate crimes" act, a Preacher can be
held accountable if one of his congregation were to harm (actual or by perception) people
among the 547 isms of sexual deviations (Amer
Psych Assoc)... Why should Murtha NOT be held
likewise accountable to inciting a terrorist to
kill a military person right there in Arkansas,
USA?
I see a connection. Anyone else?

Tiller
The first thing that came to mind when I heard about Tiller was that it was done by a liberal/marxist/socialist or whatever these guys are now. It was interesting to me that in the mainstream media, the wife was interviewed by phone and she claimed that the perp was "anti-governement, anti-tax, anti abortion.." I was surprised how little play that actually seemed to get. Almost seemed like even those writing the agenda realized how obvious that was. The goal of course being to vilify anyone who is not falling into line with the new Marxist state. Think about it.
How long until they start coming for us?

The Lord is comming
The Lord is comming soon, be ready....... This mess and this topic are just apart of the civil unrest that will become civil war so that the antichrist can bring his false peace to this country also.
