Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

Last week, Michael Steele made history as the first African-American elected chairman of the Republican Party. Although the GOP is currently the minority party in our two-party system, Chairman Steele takes the reins at a moment of tremendous opportunity. Mr. Steele’s publicly expressed commitment to conservative principles and the platform of the party, led me to urge the GOP leadership to elect him as chairman.

January 29 and 30 were rollercoaster days for all of us running to become the next chairman of the GOP. We appeared before the members of the Republican National Committee, making our case about how to inspire, rebuild and advance our party.

The Republican Party wins when it holds fast to its principles and articulates bold policy positions embodying those principles. The precepts of limited government, economic opportunity and personal responsibility resonate with Americans. The Reagan Coalition of economic conservatives, social conservatives and national-security conservatives wins elections when our candidates communicate a message of core values, personal and family security, self-sufficiency, and the rule of law.

For Republicans to be successful again, the party must both rebuild our base and expand our reach.

The party’s base is dispirited. Economic conservatives are appalled at reckless spending and endless bailouts. Social conservatives are on defense because some advocate the GOP jettisoning issues such as life, marriage or the Second Amendment.

Abandoning those issues, expanding government and reducing personal liberty with higher taxes will not get voters to support Republicans. If Americans seek more government and higher taxes, they will go to the professionals, the Democrats.

The GOP needs a chairman who will build the party, by mobilizing the base around our issues and reaching new voters with those very same values.

History has proven conservative ideas win. Republican leaders must explain how conservative principles - expressed through bold policies - will improve people’s lives. Show voters how conservative ideas will help them enjoy more freedom, security and a brighter future, and they will vote Republican. The GOP needs a chairman with the ability to project that message.

The GOP also needs a chairman who can go one-on-one against the new DNC chairman. Virginia Governor Tim Kaine is a lawyer with excellent speaking and debating skills. The RNC needed a chairman who could effectively lock horns with such a formidable opponent on TV and radio. Mr. Steele has the skills and strength of character to do that.

I served as a vice-chairman of the Platform Committee at the 2008 Republican convention in Minnesota. I fought to make sure that the conservative principles the GOP was built upon were strongly and clearly articulated in the platform. The party has never had a platform that more forcefully proclaims those enduring and defining principles as the one adopted in Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Over breakfast on January 30, Mr. Steele and I discussed the 2008 platform. During that conversation he earnestly expressed his full support of the platform. This is a platform that is unabashedly pro-life, strongly grounded in Second Amendment freedoms, and fully embracing limited government and the rule of law.

That conservation and my perception of Mr. Steele’s authentic embrace of those principles provided me with the basis upon which I could endorse him with a clear conscience and firm conviction once I determined it was time for me to exit the race.

The Republican Party has been in decline. Now as the economy contracts and foreign threats gather, there is a push for a radical government expansion where the national government would take over whole sectors of the American economy. At the same time, there is a push to remake our culture and society, even bedrock human institutions and basic individual and family rights.

Against this tide, Republicans must have all hands on deck. In addition to leaders in Congress and among the governors, the GOP needed a chairman who could make the case for Republican principles to the voters.

Americans voted for change. But they did not vote for a socialistic economy, weakened defenses or a never-before-seen social order. The Republican Party must draw a clear contrast for economic freedom, foreign policy predicated on strength, relentless war against international terrorism, and unwavering defense of the American family.

Principle must trump politics. I would rather endorse no one than endorse someone I feared might abandon the GOP’s values and priorities.

I supported Mr. Steele because, by energetically advocating the principles and policies in the GOP platform, he can reunite and grow the GOP once again. Republicans face daunting challenges, but by being true to our principles Republicans can be the real agents of change.

Steele
...way to go, the right man for the job. Good article too.

Marvelously said . . .
It is encouraging to read this sort of a column - I have been reading and hearing too many statements by Republican party leaders advocating a watered-down version of Democrat-party policies, and admonitions for the Republican party to become the party of new, big ideas (new government agencies and bigger spending).

This is a simple, eloquently worded statement of what would, once again, allow the Republican party to do something more than limp across the finish line - wondering why no one was enthused about their platform or their candidates.

The conservatives weren't too enthused, and the liberals were all voting for the Democrats...can you blame them? Why would you opt to vote for someone who kind of believes what you believe, when there's a better choice available?

This was a clear statement of principle - and without the maudlin, populist edge (or the 19th century-flavored rhetoric) that too often characterizes our rhetoric.

Crisp, well-stated statements of principle - and actions that are consistent with those principles are what will bring the Republican party back to the fore.

finally
something the GOP is actually doing well. I have been without a party since I became a registered voter. The dems love spending money too much and the repubs were letting them. Since the repubs did not vote for Obama's pork filled 'stimulus' bill and Steele as chairman, I can hope that they are reverting back towards conservative values, and hopefully fight against the stupidity that is our administration.

Time to fix the GOP
This is what I'd like to see from the GOP:

• Lose the big government social conservatism. It's hard for the party to claim it believes in small government when it's busy forcing banks to censor the Internet to stop adults from playing poker in their own homes with their own money. It also looks hypocritical for the GOP to oppose liberal big government initiatives when the GOP leadership has a big government plan for every moral issue. Social conservatives should always feel welcome in the GOP, but they'll have to realize that our goal should be to prevent government from infringing on our values, rather than using big government to promote those values.

• Kick out the neocons and lose the dream of a U.S. empire. With them gone, the GOP can welcome back traditional, limited government conservatives and others who'll flock to the message of self-reliance and liberty. Expand the party to include those who made up the traditional GOP coalition.

• Be the party of limited government

• Be fiscally responsible

• Stop trying to expand the power of the Executive Branch. We're supposed to be strict constructionists. Let's act like it.

• Follow the Constitution, especially with regards to states’ rights.

Who cares why you did it ...
you said too many nice things about Obama during the campaign ...

we don't need an Obot running the Republican Party ...

Maybe if you'd stood up to the guy insted of drinkng the Kool-AID you'd have won, but you didn't ...

so you lost. I'm glad.

Good Article Mr. Blackwell.....
and speaking of the convention in Minneapolis, I had an invitation from GOP Ohio Chairman Bob Bennett to attend as an honorary delegate from the state of Ohio. Unfortunately, I could not get away for those three days.

There must NOT be any crossovers allowed in republican primaries...allowing Democrats and liberal-leaning independents to choose our candidate is lunacy. RINOS must be booted to the curb as well.

This is all really SO simple...just STICK to conservative principles....and the results will speak for themselves.....PERIOD!

magnificent article Secretary Blackwell
You did a marvelous thing during the balloting. I wanted you as chairman and firmly believed that you were what the GOP needed.

I understand the decision you made and I respect you for it. I so very much hope that you stay in public life as a leader for Republican and conservative causes. We need you.

If there were more people like you, the GOP would be in much better shape. Thank you again for being someone we can count on.

Excellent Article

I AGREE totally with Mr. Blackwell and disagree with “The Engineer” ( Feb 3, 2009 - 1:11 AM EST )
On the issue of BIG government, I say YES, smaller is better, BUT a government that does nothing to protect LIFE or VIRTUE is worthless and will fail. What our friend The Engineer fails to understand is that Social Conservatives ARE the base of the G.O.P. And you can not win without them. BTW, I happen to be a “Reagan Democrat” and know (first hand) what happens when a political puts it's moral compass away in a closet. Sorry Engineer, but you better go back to the drawing board with that one!

On the other hand, pushing the Neo-Cons back into the closet is a great idea. They are welcome to help the G.O.P. win elections, but after-words, it's a back seat for them. WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER 8 YEARS LIKE THESE LAST. BTW... When I say we, I'm talking about True Conservatives regardless of party registration.

I supported Michael Steele in his run for the Senate Seat in Maryland based on the recommendations of a Republican friend. 2006 was reportedly the first time in Maryland history when an entire county Democratic organization jumped ship and supported a Republican. Maryland is so liberal that I'm not sure any True Conservative Republican could have won that year.

If Michael can drag the G.O.P. kicking and screaming “Technologically” into the 21st Century and pull the old Reagan coalition together in the next two years then 2010 will a winner for Republicans. I say this because I believe that by then the American people will discover the Emperor Obama has no cloths and we need more than Orwellian Slogans painted on billboards and buses.

Michael Steele Right Man For Job
Michale Steele is the right man for the position of RNC Chairman, and so Ken Blackwell's endorsement was well considered.

In the election years 2006 and 2008, the American people screwed up badly. In 2006, the people of Maryland chose a mediocrity and did not elect Michael Steele to the U.S. Senate, the people of Ohio chose a mediocrity and did not elect Ken Blackwell to Governor, and th epeople of Pennsylvania chose a mediocrity and did not elect Lynne Swan as Governor. In 2008, the American people chose for U.S. President an inexperienced, pro-abortion socialist who cultivates a cult of personalisty and who does not have a clue about foreign policy, national security and military matters and did not elect a pro-life American war hero in John McCain, who has spent a lifetime of service to America, who knows foreign policy, military matters and national security better than almost anyone in Washington D.C. and who was key in stopping the Democrats from losing the Iraq War.

Michael Steele is in a very important position for America now because when America realizes the error of handing the country to the Democrats, the Republicans must be ready with conservative candidates and policies to lead.

Can we get on to the meat & potatos?
For the love of God! If I hear core principles one more time I'm going to scream!

Listen closely. Let me give you a nickel's worth of free advice. Stop talking and start doing. DAILY! We need a Hertiage fact checked, historical status of the last eight years of the governmental actions that worked and failed and why. We know all about Bush and McCain and assorted failings of Lott, Hastert, Delay letting the media dictate to them but we need specifics. Especially dim fingerprints. They're everywhere and let's get it out there. THEN AND NOW.

Going forward we have to make the alternative message on everything from immigration nightmares to abortion count(how about a daily body count just like Irag - instead of armor neglect we'll keep count of brain stabbing/suckings and the ones left in metal containers) to a bureaucracy bloat check.

This is KISS 101. Come on people. Attack them with comedy, instead of the lib trio of Leno, Letterman and Conan we have Rush, Coulter and Sean. But get the message coordinated. Steady stream of shamnesty, abortions, Christian attacks, Muslim smoozing, UN butt-kissing, socialist land and money grabs, etc. Remember get the facts to back it and keep em coming, hopefully in a good rallying soundbite for the mind numb.

Great article
Mr Blackwell also would have been a great choice.
Steele a great choice, good man, with many skills as good as anybody but he better be ready to TRULY battle the lies, the propaganda of the left through their corrupted media outlets and talking heads, specially the unconciouss lying "lawyers." He will need to be aggressive and go after their lying machines and their cheating apparatus, acorn. There are so many lies and manipulations from the left to combat and many more to come.
Mr Steele will have to tell it like it is and speak the message and virtues of the conservatives, how they really are, with boldness and courage. The Republicans need to fight the media's lying propaganda more and when a Republican fails, he/she will have to be disciplined but, also stood up for and not held at the double standard like the propaganda outlets of the left hold the Republicans.
The American voters, specially the conservatives, need to stop buying into the manipulation of the left fake democrats and their propaganda outlets and expect them to be "perfect." Wake up, if a Rep votes for a spending bill of $100 million don't be so stupid and throw he/she under the bus for a democrat who would vote for the same bill except for it would be at least $500 million.
Steele also needs $$$, forget public matching, he needs millions, $750 millions this past election, we will need at least $900 million in 2012. As the fake dems proved with $750 million, enough of the corrupted media can be bought and with the finishing touches of a criminal organization (acorn), paid by the taxpayers and some of the 750, a propaganda campaign can be set up with the cheating finishing touch to buy, manipulate and cheat off enough votes to elect ANYBODY, even the one ! Learn from the fake dems, learn how they play the game "by any means necessary."

What they elected.
"I won."
Says it all.

The fake dems sheep
Daschle "did not know about the taxes," only a willing moron, a fake dems voter, would convenietly buy this BS, and the fake dems know just how STUPID AND SET ON THEIR STUPIDITY THEIR SHEEP ARE, so they will tell them anything. And to add to his "audacity of hope," on the sheep's willingness to follow, he had been making the statement that "the IRS should prosecute tax violators to the full effect of the law!" Only the willing morons of the fake dems would put up with this BS..oh I forgot THE LIE, Bush lied people died, is all the Iraq war BAH, BAH ! And the evilness of it all is that even if by some miracle he does not get on the gravy train of the government payroll, he will work making more money, with a chauffer and limousine, ripping off the tax payers from the private sector and with his government parachute still in tact...by now the sheep are saying Bah, bah, the Republicans do it too, halliburton, halliburton, bah, bah, bah. The new standard set by the crooks of the fake dems is that if you don't pay your taxes you can BS your way through it and get a government job....make sure you say how sorry you are and you didn't know....don't forget you have to be a scumbag leftist lying lawyer who sold his soul to get the payoff, aka a democrat ! Bah, Bah, Bah Bush lied, people died, the Iraq war, bah, bah, bah..

Right on the money, Phil
Good points that tie in with my take of the last two years and actually the GOP failings since the last positive election in 2004. We have elected the wrong first black because we let the pmm (Propaganda Media Machine) ignor or suppport the attacks on Condi, Lynn, Michael and Ken while letting Oblaba get a pass with all his limited achievements and shady past. Powell would have been attacked as well which is why he never ran. But I'm glad because he had too many liberal tencencies.

The message has to be a steady diet of what's wrong and why. We know we can't shrink this fat monster of bureaucracy overnight but to eat an elephant you have to start with he first bite. These dims are not only not eating any elephants but are in fact bringing in a new herd. We've known their antics for 80 years and BO's just more of the same with some dangerous, toxic hidden motives. We have to finally get through to the masses. I'm praying that Steele will be the one.

NOW THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

I know you Republicans HATE to hear
anything from Conservative Democrats

BUT indyconantidim Location: TX

IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT !

Proud
I think even the sheeple can grasp the choking of the golden goose. We can easily show them what the UAW has done to car manufacturing can be applied to SS and handouts. If there's nobody to tax like in France, there is no handout. And OBTW the prices are all up and there are no jobs.

Michael, You are a welcome addition
Party affiliations don't mattet as long as your involved and a conservative. However I see very few Democrats bucking these dims. I have a whole host conservative Democrats in my family and try daily to make them understand this. That party has been given all the opportunity to succeed what with their media support and yet they still won't read the obvious positives of conservatism. They have slowly turned the Reagan Revolution and now they are on the attack with BO. Its wrong on so many counts but nobody's really hearing the message. We rallied against shamnest and may just but the kabash on this bloated handout but 2010 is a long way off.

Well spoken, Mr. Blackwell...
We need this kind of leadership to get the Republicans going again in the RIGHT direction. Without it, I am conservative sitting out the next one.

Well thanks, 7th
Although a lost vote in CA ain't all that big a loss unless its for one of the few good conservative reps out there.

Where is God?
I'm old enough and experienced enough in the things I've seen in my life to be truly conservative. But why be conservative?

Limited government? What makes a limited government in and of itself any better than unlimited government?

2nd Amendment? Is it really that important for us to be able to own guns?

Constitution? Is the Constitution really a fixed document? Or is it an evolving document, meant to reflect the values of the culture for which it was written and in which it is applied?

Why shouldn't gay relationships be afforded the respectability and approval that comes with the word 'marriage'?

I could go on, but why bother?

I'm conservative because I believe in a God who gave certain inalienable rights to us as beings made in His image. I believe in personal responsibility because I believe that each one of us is responsible and accountable before God as to how we live our lives. I'm conservative because I believe that government is always trying, but should never be allowed, to take God's place as the great care-giver and the source of everything good.

Again, I could go on, but to sum up: conservatism only makes sense if the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is at the root of that conservatism.

God has given His prescription for the fixing of a culture. 2nd Chron 7:14. Do we, as conservatives apply His prescriptions? Or, do we continue trying to fix things on our own?

What's troubling
to me is, how do you educate about half the population who have their hands(with palms up)ready to take handouts.

There's a belief in these "takers" that the Government is giving them the handouts instead of their neighbors.

We have to find a way to show the givers where and why we can no longer afford the takers.

And no, i don't have the answer, but it must be done.

Enough willing fake dems and enough of
of their sheep, enough control to manipulate and a few dumb moderates and conservatives to top it off and anything can be done.
This "congress" has the lowest approval rating in history, even lower than Pres Bush, they have their corrupted finger prints all over the housing crisis and yet they are running the country and setting policy !! Only in today's MORONIC voter base America could this happen.

Now the new call of the left's fake dems, as progammably repeated by their sheep everywhere including this blog is "we won," so can do whatever we Fing want! New rules for "democracy" from the party that brought US the victims parades, how to spend $750 million mix in a little acorn and get the local dog catcher elected president, I mean community organizer. NO scumbags, nice try, that is not how it works, we still have a two party system, barely, stop your partisanship and BS (that will never happen) and stop trying to enforce a dictatorship.
Conservatives and Moderates, you need to stop buying the propaganda of these leftist manipulators stop destroying the good wounded and replacing them with healthy fake dems demons. The arrogant
The left pulled off their coup in part because of the large populations in the corrupted, government program leaching, bankrupt blue states, now standing in line for the welfare to pay for their failed policies off the backs of hard working Americans, mostly in the red states. What a coup !
Never in America has "racism," a form of prejudism, the same as favoritism, been more prevalent than during this election, as black Americans suppo HYPOCRISY !rted a candidate mostly because of his skin tone not "the content of his character," never since the same blacks supported a muderer, OJ, for the same reasons ! Think about that TRUTH !and

Can't we get away from race?
I don't want an African-American as the chairman of the Republican National Committee, I want an American. As long as we continue to use African-American, Native American, Asian-American, Latin-American in articles, it is clear that we want to highlight a race issue and we will never be a race neutral society.

I supported Chairman Steele not because he was African-American. I believe he won on merit and not race. So why does Mr Blackwell need to use the coined phrase, African-American, in this article?

What the Republicans need to do...
1. Form an organization similar to Move On and get the message out.
2. Adopt a non-interventionist foriegn policy.
3. Become fiscal conservatives again.

Steele
Steele is for Roe v Wade staying while the GOP platform stands firm against abortion. Can we really continue to play wink wink at this desecration of life itself but talking about all the lesser things like wealth building? How can we justify attacking the Saddams of this world, when it is we who are openly responsible for the evil of 50 million deaths and are now (without hardly a wimper or debate from the GOP) transporting our funds to have the rest of the world join us in this bloodfest.
I didn't hear Mitchell or Steele or McCain screaming that this money is now available to China to enforce its forced abortion laws - why is that? We complain about a silent leftist media -but we share that guilt completely. Why did we not fight the election on the basis that the other side wants a proven advocate of infanticide - who, thanks to the GOP and McCain's soft glove candidacy, is now our president and acting aggressively to destroy that which made America great.

What This Guy Really IS

1. A big government Bushist
2. An illegal immigrant apologist
3. Gun confiscator
4. K Street tool
5. Electoral failure

All the Blue Hairs, Westchesterites, and John Warner Republicans can keep singing this guys praise, but a disaster awaits in 2010 and 2012.

Talk is cheap
After years of being ignored by the RNC, you will understand my unwillingness to jump for joy over a new RNC chairman.

We saw Mr. Boehner write articles here after the '06 debacle, stating that he "got it". Nothing could have been further from the truth.

We witnessed the nomination of John McCain, champion of amnesty, McCain/Feingold, Gang of 14, and the tweaking of the platform to include the term "maverick". A term that has come to mean, in this conservatives opinion, that from time to time he will act like a democrat.

We as conservatives believe in a strong national defense as the best means of avoiding conflict. We believe in limited government which is by definition, government acting within the constraints of the constitution.

We oppose abortion, attacks on faith, attacks on marriage, and attacks on the bill of rights because they have been made issues by government ignoring constitutional constraint and overstepping their powers.

We as conservatives didn't pick the issues, they have been chosen for us by a federal government acting without constitutional authority.

The battle has begun and the GOP is starting with a big chunk of it's Army angry and questioning where the was the payoff for delivering all those previous elections.

Mr. Steele has a big job ahead. I hope he is equal to the task. I wish him well but caution him that whatever he plans had better be good and quick. Virginia will hold it's gubernatorial election in November with a solid conservative at the top of the ticket and the chance to replace the DNC chairman with a republican.

Will the RNC take that fight to the democrats?

Thanks to Mr. Blackwell
While I'm not sure yet how I feel about Chairman Steele - only time will tell - I appreciate Mr. Blackwell giving us the reasons he supported Steele after he dropped out himself. If Mr. Steele can live up to the impression he gave Mr. Blackwell, we may have some light waiting for us at the end of the tunnel.

Why cator to Certain groups?
Why should a party leader or candidate for Federal Office need to cater to a specific group to get their vote? Seems to me We, Americans are all,(or should be) citizens that basically want the same things from our Government.
1. A strong national defense. 2. Limited government. 3. Emphasis on Social Values. 4.Support of our Constitution and all the amendments. 5. Support enforcement of all current laws. 6.Support Free enterprise and trade. 7. Support Private medical care and retirement plans. 8. Denounce Socialism. 9.Support less power for the Federal Government and more for local and state. Therefore any one who believes in these conservative principles will vote with us. Individual Freedom. I hope Mr. Steele is very very strong on this.

Michael Steele is a great inspiration
I am very excited about Michael Steele being nominated as chair. I have listened to his views many times on Bill Bennett's morning in America. His views are right on and we need him to build up the republican party to fight against the liberal tax spenders.

Ken, you had my vote for Governor.
I am not familiar with Michael Steele but I heard the Rev. Al Sharpton wring his hands over the choice of Mr. Steele, (quote: "he may be our color but he's not our kind") so all doubts of this choice instantly vanished.

The Rev. Al has a fun radio show, I urge everyone to listen. When the left complain about conservative radio shows, remind them the that Rev. Al has a popular show, and if you listen, he is very intolerant of "dissenting" opinions.

At least Hannity lets libs hang themselves with their own words on his show, allowing them plenty of equal time.

Obama Wants America to Fail

The 'Mantra' of ideologues, is based on the words 'Who' or 'How', and concentrate on the past, instead of the present.

Their survival technique is based on, 'Determine 'WHO' or 'How' and then flail away at those who caused the need to survive, instead of 'What' can one do to survive, in the present.

"There will be time enough for counting, when the dealing is done".

The primary 'Goal' of Barack Obama is the failure of America.

Barack Obama's core belief, is that investing in failure and nurturing failure, will produce 'Failure' in America, which is his goal.

Barack Obama believes that 'Failure will be the Success' of his administration.

Why does Barack Obama want America to fail?

Barack Obama (and any thinking person), knows that his 'Stimulus package' will cause more Business's to fail and more jobs to be lost, creating more panic and economic destruction.

Capitalism must fail, so that Obamunism (Socialism), can take over America, at every level.

Barack Obama's goal is Socialism, Socialism's goal is Communism.

Barack Obama has a chance to do what he has trained for, worked towards and dreamed about his entire life - destroy the American way of life and install Socialism in America.

Meanwhile, ideologues across the spectrum of politics, focus on the past and the 'Who' and 'How' America was placed in 'Survival Mode' instead of focusing on Surviving the present.

Solving America's Problems

How can a problem solver, solve a problem, without focusing on 'Who' or 'What' caused the problem?

That sounds like pure 'Nonsense', to all humans who do NOT know how to solve problems.

I owned and operated a software development company, which was profitable, until I found the real money was in 'Fixing' failed software, instead of developing software.

Anecdotal example, one of the largest companies in the world, in their field, brought me in to analyze their customer service software, which had the company paralyzed and on the road to bankruptcy.

The room was full of executives, board members and managers. They began attacking each other in an attempt to determine 'Who' was at fault. After about 30 minutes of this, I picked up my briefcase and started to leave the boardroom. The President of the company who had hired me asked "Where are you going", I responded "You don't need me to referree this childish 'Food Fight' do you?"

The room grew silent, I said "Obviously there are many here who need to vent their frustrations at one another, when you are ready to solve your problem, give me a call and if I am available, I will return and help you".

One executive blurted out, "How could we possibly solve our problem without knowing who caused it and how?"

I said, "Tell me what you want to accomplish with the software and what information is needed to whom, when and where".

Problem solving depends on, what do you want to accomplish - not who or what caused the problem.

What do us Americans want to accomplish with our government?

Ken you are a great American!
I was rooting for Michael Steele for exactly those same reasons you listed.

But there needs to be some drastic changes, here's my list:

1) A very thorough house-cleaning from local to National levels. At many levels, the GOP is run by liberals who donned GOP hats, but they are nonetheless, liberal.

2) Huge outreach to Hispanics. The GOP should be their party! They are very pro-family, independent, and self-reliant.

3) Innovation, time to get into the 21st Century. Use of the internet and social media to deliver the message is huge, the MSM will always pervert that message, can't lean on them, can't trust them, so you need a new vehicle. Example, I am the creator of Dear Mr. Obama, the #1 political ad of 2008. Yet, at every level, County, State and National, the GOP had their heads in the sand, many of them didn't even know about Dear Mr. Obama.

Part 2
4) A young, fresh, articulate face, is more important than someone with years of experience, i.e. Obama. Someone who inspires - you need to start looking at the Young Republicans for your candidates.

5) Embrace civil unions for gays, that's just right, they should be able to visit one another in the hospital, share bank accounts and enjoy all the legal benefits of marriage. If we are going after personal liberty and freedom, civil unions should be the answer.

6) Stand on principle. Don't buckle, don't waiver, no more basing decisions on fear!!!! This is a huge one that spelled doom for the GOP last year. When the media attacked Bush, no one defended him, they all cowered. When he tried to push the surge, GOP in Congress shuddered. We need fearless, not fearful people in Congress.

7) Root out the RINO's. You will always have a dispirited base when the elected officials act like Dems in Congress. So why did the party support them?

8) Don't just look at what Obama is doing, keep a close eye on Congress and be ready to unleash a media storm when they go afoul which they surely will and already have. Dem control is the GOP's best weapon when held up to the light of scrutiny.

Well, there's my list.

Right on Message
Great positions Ken, but I firmly believe that if we Republicans just hammer home the message that the bailouts are insane, that the Pelosi budget is insane (including all of their so called stimulus pork projects) then the American public (dumbed down as they are under the liberal education system) will respond in 2010. The American government under Obama, Reid, Pelosi is doing it's best to destroy our tried and true free market system.

Oh one other point, Mr Steele should do everything in his power to see that RHINO'S become extinct and that includes Sen. McCain.

I was an early supporter for Michael Steele as a V.P. on a Romney ticket because of the way he articulated Conservatism as I know it.

Michael Steele
The Republican brand has been routinely criticized for failing to engage all Americans and not reaching out to persons of color. With the selection of Mr. Steele, this is an incredible opportunity to extend a welcoming hand to those who previously thought there was no alternative to the democrat party.

Porkout failure
The Republicans in the House started back on the road to redemption with their solid opposition to the Stimulus package.

Now polls show the majority of Americans are against it and it could be the first failure of the Obama Presidency.

My Republican Senators especially Sen Chambliss gets it and is very against the current plan.

Someone mentioned Pres Bush in some comments. He did great on National Defense and good on areas like Stem cell research, Supreme Court nominations (with some help from conservative talk radio anyone remember Myers?)and right to life issues but waivered on the Border Security (where is the fence?)and he allowed the goverment to grow at an unsustainable rate.

The Republicans must stand for smaller government which is a key Conservative value. During the last election we could not run on small government and we lost. We know Pres Obama is for more Gov and we can continually show his weakness there to those swing voters we need to win back.

Republican platform
Is part of the Republican platform to make nonsensical statements like: "The government has never created one job."

Who paid your salary when you were Lt. Gov. Mr. Steele?

Idiotic statements like don't bode well for any new direction for the GOP.

A Real Conservative

Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?
A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that.

Q: Are federal affirmative action programs necessary and effective?
A: Studies show enormous disparities still exist in education, healthcare, employment and economic opportunities along racial lines in the United States. I believe programs are still necessary to help close these divides. I support giving people opportunities. Programs must be fair to all Marylanders - of every color - and they should focus on economic empowerment.

Steele is personally opposed to the death penalty, but he has not publicly expressed his opinion on two executions [in Maryland]. Nor, he said, did he privately try to dissuade Gov. Ehrlich from signing the execution orders. He did, however, volunteer to undertake a study of the fairness of the death penalty to determine if minorities and the poor in Maryland receive a disproportionate share of death sentences. But that was in 2003, and three years later he has still not produced a finished report.

Try Obama's Policy in your own life

If you don't believe that Obama wants America to fail, try the Obama Doctrine of Economics in your own life.

President Obama believes that 'Borrowing More Money and Spending More Money' will help America reduce debt and bring financial health to America.

If you can't pay your Credit Card debt, just follow the Obama Economic Plan and charge more on those credit card and apply for more credit cards to charge on.

Mortgage everything you own and sell everything else to raise money.

Charge, charge, charge and invest everything else in Companies that are proven failures and are poorly managed.

It may take sometime as Obama explains, but soon you will be debt free and in good financial health.

Obama says don't delay, do it now, do it today, time is wasting.

Re:Republican platform 1
Republicans or Conservatives undoubtedly have the upper hand in defining human rights and responsibilities at this time of societal development, but to keep certain idealistic traditional values without redefining it as to how it would be practically applicable in our times, is falling short of reason.
Let’s take the practice of abortion. Conservatives, at the behest of fundamental evangelicals is against human intervention to right a wrong. While society is at ease with fornication and adultery (and some of our most prominent leaders are guilty of such practices) we cannot call any and every pregnancy a full human life, or “baby”. A baby , by emotional definition should be a cherished and responsibly planned human conception, carried with mutual effort by two parents to full human life. So many pregnancies, due to our societal trend, are accidents of nature, conceived in and by irresponsible, carnal lust, or to express it in religious terminology, in “sin”. Is a pregnancy a blessing or a “curse” from our Creator if it was conceived in sinful behavior? If we use our collective discernment, we should come to the conclusion that it is more of a curse on all involved than a blessing. A curse can be viewed in two ways: a teaching tool from a loving Creator, or a punishment from a vengeful God . I am to believe that Our Father sent us His Son to define Himself as a loving Teacher for mankind’s imperfect state in this fallen world. Would Our loving father use an innocent baby to teach us harsh lessons of life? I don’t think so! He gave “His only begotten Son” as a “sacrificial Lamb” to forgive all our sins. He no longer expect us to pay with the “blood of sacrifice” for our sins. For a woman to choose to abort the consequences of her mistake, in its earliest stage of existence, is to respect Our Father’s greatest gift to us, our “free will”. NO MAN HAS GREATER AUTHORITY THAN GOD TO ALLOW US TO EXCERSISE HIS GIFT.

Re: Republican platform 2
For the evangelicals to force legislators (failing humans themselves) to exercise greater authority than God himself, is a SIN!. Tangentially here, I would mention, that if a woman chooses motherhood, than even her mistake should be treated as a “blessing”, supported and nurtured by the evangelical community. Is a single mother, destitute and alone, fully supported by our churches? I dare say not! Religious leaders would rather build “Crystal Cathedrals” and “Mega Churches” with all the “paraphernalia” of the latest technology, than to distribute their followers’ contributions among “widows and orphans”. Are there parochial churches that waive their tuitions for impoverished single mothers or would the members of such schools take the responsibility to offer after school care for a child whose mother is working overtime to procure the necessities of life for her child? We all know the answers to that. Should then the evangelical community exercise pressure on their governmental representative to institute laws that undermine the Creator’s gift of “FREE WILL”? I say, NO! Evangelicals, if they consider themselves to be true followers of Christ, they should spend their energy in being servants of the needy innocents, rather then enforcers of laws that go against God’s intent. Life is a blessing, only if God deems it so, and through His Holy Spirit He will “move mountains” for His blessing to become a blessed human life. We as Christians can only accept responsibility for God’s will.
Homosexuality is a clearly stated Biblical law: it is sinful, immoral and against God’s will. Such behavior to be sanctified as marriage would be a sin form the evangelical community. To tolerate such behavior is a Christian duty. To elevate it to the sanctity of a Sacrament is a sin. It is right to forcefully interfere in legislature to stop such sacrilege to pervert the Human Family.

I'll wait and see
I don't know Michael Steele, and thus have to conclude that the writer is capable and perceptive. As for me, and I fear the rest of the world of political observers, this appears on the surface to be a replay of the recent past Presidential election debacle.

It looks like the GOP is doing it's best to be just like the lib-Dems. You don't win by making yourself just like them, you win by making yourself the preferable opposite.

I'll be waiting and listening - the jury's now out, and we await the verdict.

The Reps appear to "get it"
I don't know how good Steele will be compared to the rest of the field, but the fact that he's black is a step in the right direction.

If you look at demographic trends, by 2050 whites will be a minority and the group with the largest percentage increase will be Hispanics. If the Reps are to remain a viable party, they MUST make huge inroads with Hispanics and white female swing voters.

I don't think Steele can bring over even one black voter, but...his being black sends the right signals. Reps now need to start recruiting Hispanic and female candidates and running them for State and National office. Fast!

I confess not knowing much about...
...Mr. Steele other than the basics. I have seen the treatment of other people by the Left, Palin, Rice, Powell, Thomas, folks you would expect some type of respect to be shown towards and fully expect to see the same treatment of Steele on this thread before days end.

Whether it is fair or not, Mr. Steele will need to ignore his detractors when the inevitable labels of 'Token', 'Sell Out', 'House Servant' and the like are flung. He will need to stand above those people and set a higher example while bringing conservatism back to the party.

As I said, I don't really know a lot about him so it will be interesting to see how he handles the reins. It would certainly be nice to have two parties again other than Democrat and Not-Called-Democrat-But-Can't-Tell-The-Difference.

Repub party chairman
It doesn't make any difference who the party chairman is, if the republican party tries to bring in that bunch of liberals in the northeastern United States, they can kiss the South good bye. We are CONSERVATIVE in the South, and we ARE NOT going to compromise that for a bunch of whiney, snotty nosed, bed wetting liberals from the northeast.

I wish the new chairman success and will work with him and support him IF HE KEEPS TO CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES. If he doesn't, he can trade votes in the northeast for those in the South, but he can't have it both ways. The republicans tried that last election cycle and look where it got them.

SAY NO To Socialism
It's important to remember the only reason to be a Conservative is because it is the ideology that works. Conservatives are correct. Our Constitution in collaboration with the Declaration of Indepence is as close to perfect as man is capable of producing. Economic freedom with its natural incentives is the only type of economy that will succeed. Socialism will always produce failure. When it becomes more expensive to work than to stay home and collect a check workers will stay home.
POPULARITY with voters is not the main
objective. To know what is right, to do what is right, and communicate to others why socialism fails and the free market works is the agenda. Good luck with media cooperation.

Steele must be a man of his word. If he chooses RINO's or socialists to run for office we are done.

Another point, I would guess most Conservatives are conservative in all three areas.

Indyconantidim...
You make some great points. I am reminded of the old adage that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. When that is applied to education, I think the Socratic method is the honey while ad hominem attacks and confrontational debate is the vinegar. How many people have changed their minds because somebody browbeat them into changing their beliefs? The Socratic method isn't always easy, but it is incredibly effective. Just ask questions. You don't have to challenge somebody's views. It may be counterproductive to do so. Just ask what happens if... or what happens when... or what happens next... and similar questions. Ask who benefits from... or ask what would happen if this alternative were implemented... Lead your student down the path to draw their own correct conclusion. Worst case, is you m,ay learn there was some merit in their positions. Best case, you will have re-educated a former adversary. Like I said, it is much easier said than done. It takes a while to develop the skill and it takes a while to convert people that way. But if we start now, we have 2 years to the next Congressional elections and 4 until the next presidential election.

Aniko
How dare you put God's name on what you just said. MY free will NEVER allows me to murder with God's approval. How dare you. Who do you think you are telling us that you know when life begins. Are you saying God does not love those millions of unborn babies. How about the 1 lb. baby I saw in the nursery yesterday. Is that baby loved by God? Or is that baby too small. Are you going to be the one to determine that for God?

Michael is confused
He professes support for Steele..

>I was rooting for Michael Steele<

then proceeds to abandon one of Steele's main concepts - Be positive.

> When the media attacked Bush<

There is no "the media." Claiming so is a negative and suggests victim status.

> Root out the RINO's.<

How much more negative can you get but to purge members from the party? Who decides what constitutes a RINO?

>At many levels, the GOP is run by liberals who donned GOP hats, but they are nonetheless, liberal.<

See above.

MichaelSteele
Must scare the Liberals to DEATH! Otherwise WHY would Schmuck Schumer go to the trouble to have his personal info hacked? He was GREAT as a candidate for Senate against a Maryland Political Dynasty. He JACKED UP Ben Cardin in their debate, but Maryland is as Blue as Boondoggle Hopey Change-O-Rama’s Lips. I think he will do a GREAT job, if he doesn’t then his tenure will be a short one. The GOP needs to be rebuilt and ANYTHING or ANYONE who can do so while holding to OUR principles should be listened too. You CANNOT make an omelet without breaking a few eggs!

Pancho
I'm not sure Michael is so much confused as he is expressing his own form of optimism.

Unless you're a Democrat, you can't honestly say you are happy with the turn the Republican party has taken over the last few years. The current 'deciders' in the GOP have brought about the fractures we now see and to repair this will take a change in not only phylosiphy but leadership.

Republicans need to stop trying to imitate Democrats, if the real thing isn't worth having a copy is even worse.

Better than Expected
Blackwell's article is well stated.

@Pancho - There is no "the media"? Granted, it would have been better to be more specific, but anyone who's been paying the least amount of attention to American politics over the past 6 years can see a blatant trend in "the media" of hyper-partisan criticism of President Bush, while they ignore or soft-pedal the excesses and sometimes, outright crimes of the Democrat Left. The trend continues to this day.

Moreover, a call to root out the RINOs is well-taken. "Republicans In Name Only" need to be purged from the party because they don't actually agree with, and support, the party's principles. That's what a political party is; a group of like-minded folks who agree on a core set of principles and policies. RINOs, by definition, do not, and so they need to go to a party that better suits their notions.

You want an example? Let's start with an ex-RINO, US Senator Jim Webb, D-VA. He used to be a Republican even though he didn't agree with any of the Republican values. He only came out of the closet when he saw that the Democrats had a chance once again. I think the Republican party is still infested with RINOs, and it's very easy to see who they are; just look at their voting record. Demand that they adhere to party principles, or show them the door and point them down the hall to a party better suited to their perspectives.

See above, regarding liberals.

Conservatism is the answer
Being luke-warm on your principles is a disaster. Every time John McCain boasted about "crossing the aisle" I could have puked.
We don't need someone to "cross the aisle" we someone with strong conservative principles and I believe the country will follow such a person if they are articulate, have a well defined message, unshakeable principles-you know everything McCain wasn't.
We need to sell The Fair Tax in a proper manner and it will sell the Conservatives along with our other principles. Remember who we are going against: people who hate America, people who want homosexual marriage, people who want the government to give them everything, people who steal elections, people who cannot run any state, people who don't pay taxes, people who hate without reason, in short, everything wrong with our beloved country is front and center with our opponents. We have a great message and we to have someone deliver it well and constantly. Let's get fired up!

Here We Go Again
Liberals overtly calculate, and manipulate groups into compromising what is right for the sake of some other spiteful or selfish goal, or to avoid some fear. Anything to win.

Conservatism articulates values positions, educating people of its merits.

Republicans ran the presidential campaign on the former, assuming the group called “Right Wing” would still vote to preserve a sliver of a remnant of a memory of conservative principles in government. The Palin pick tried to counter our inevitable protest.

90% of blogs addressing the Conservative sit-out were dedicated to scolding us for our zealous ignorance. Blaming us if Democrats were elected.

The liberal tenets are the play-book again for the future in most “Remaking the GOP” blogs, where Conservatives should be realistic and fall in line. A group. No different than the Log Cabin Republicans. A few banners, some choice rally words is all it should take to get us back in line while nothing really changes.

But radio voices that actually educate are still being scolded by the calculators for being extreme. And conservatives are still fed the overwhelming message that conservatism is unrealistic and the 'mature' 'consensus' by the smart people is that compromise for the sake of the calculated numbers is the game.

If Republicans had been conservative over the last 30 years, we wouldn't have so many compromises on security, abortion, family, taxes, government power, borders, morals, foreign influence in our elections, and on and on. There's nothing left to conserve but the GOP itself. Every conservative issue is on a slippery-slope. Conservatives can now only 'hope' that one day the GOP will be in power again and won't do what they did with it the last times they were in power.

Based on how they treat us, they must calculate us in the following manner:

Liberal - NO
Nose Holder - NO
Willing to sit silently - NO

Category - SCOLD, APPEASE, MARGINALIZE, IGNORE.

Encouraged
I'm encouraged about the Republican party for two things I've seen recently: Michael Steele in charge, and holdong together against the Dems stealing $1 trillion from the economy for their projects. They still have to prove themselves over a longer period to get me firmly back in their camp.

By definition
>That's what a political party is; a group of like-minded folks who agree on a core set of principles and policies. RINOs, by definition, do not, and so they need to go to a party that better suits their notions.<

I doubt Ronald Reagan would have ever approved of the term RINO.

A core set of principles and policies is a broad definition that is now being narrowed at the exclusion of many in several areas.

Michael in #37 states

>Embrace civil unions for gays<

Some conservatives feel that position is in opposition to a core set of principles.

What is the objective? I'm neither Republican nor Democrat, liberal nor conservative, but feel that balance is important in the government. I fear an Obama White House and Democratic majorities in the House and Senate are detrimental to my views.

Yet, the consensus seems to be to want to push me away from voting for Republicans if I don't sign up to be a "true conservative" on every issue brought forth. Consequently, I vote Libertarian much of the time.

So ask yourself if you want to win elections or if you want to vet every candidate and party member to fit into a shrinking mold of what constitutes a "true conservative."

Aniko
People who do not revere God or know his word should never try to preach Godliness. When they do, it's always just an attempt to slander Christians.

Here's your first lesson:

Government does not love us. God does.

me tooism
do any conservatives see the trend that seems to developing here.

first, the democrats looked like they might nominate a woman, next thing you know there is a woman on the republican ticket.

the country elects a black president and the next thing you know a black is head of the republican party.

do you not think most americans see this as hypocritical?

just asking

Pancho
Let's separate party principles into other ways the:

Moral and immoral

Honest and dishonest

Compromised and principled

Sellout and the Steadfast

Takers and Givers

ad nausium.

You just made my point in #58 to the T.

JohnR22...
Don't put the cart before the horse. We need to teach/show minorities that they are better off if they look out for themselves than if they become dependent on government. It matters not who is in power. Those dependent on the government are one election or one natural calamity away from disaster. Hurricane Katrina should have been evidence of that. But it is an unwinnable sell if somebody promises you something for nothing and somebody else promises you that you can keep more of what you earn. Maybe the government will fail and minorities will finally get buyer's remorse. Maybe not.

We don't need to recruit minorities simply because they are minorities. They must be conservative first! So many of them come from a worldview that doesn't even recognize the value and benefits of freedom, that many, if not most must be taught and shown. Even many who have good family values and a strong work ethic do not really understand how our government and country came to be and how it became such an engine of prosperity. They are quick to rely on government for even little things.

Republicans need to relearn the art of strategic selling. They need to recreate the vision for minorities. And above all, they need to deliver results the next time they gain control of government. The abysmal failure to practice self-control and deliver results by the Republicans when they controlled government will take a long time to forget unless the Democrats now in control manage to screw up things so bad that the Republican run years look good. As a red-blooded American, I just can't wish for the Democrats to fail, even though I expect them to. The consequences are likely to be too serious.

Pancho
"How much more negative can you get but to purge members from the party? Who decides what constitutes a RINO?"

Not who but what... the party platform. If you disagree with much of what is in the party's platform maybe you're in the wrong party.
Republicans appear no different than democrats because we are allowing "the media" to define us for the American people. It is time that we revoke our victimhood status and start using the channels available to us to define ourselves. That is where a strong leader would do the most good; in letting people know, this is what Republicans stand for and this why.

Pancho illustrates...
a common Republican problem. Conservatives, especially religious ones, do indeed abhor sinful activities. They are not above using government to legislate morality. But the Republican Party doesn't need to embrace these moral issues as federal absolutes. They simply need to prevent the opposite point of view from becoming federal absolutes. Let local communities, or even whole states decide issues like alcohol sales, marriage, gay rights, abortion, etc. We can be more effective in keeping our states and communities beholden to our beliefs and we can more easily vote with our feet if a community or state takes on positions we disapprove. We can compare the performance of different states and communities in how they handle these issues and what results they achieve and might actually learn from one another. Federal absolutes only polarize us because it allows for no practical alternatives. And that was the beauty of the constitution specifically defining functions of government and prohibiting it from doing anything else.

Mr. Blackwell and Mr. Steele
Well-written article. Mr. Blackwell and Mr. Steele were my choices for chairman. I'm glad that one of them is now the chairman.

And beyond
>Even many who have good family values and a strong work ethic do not really understand how our government and country came to be and how it became such an engine of prosperity. They are quick to rely on government for even little things.<

Often it is the second generation of immigrants who, by benefit of nanny state entitlements, abandon their parents' work ethic and join the cry for "more food stamps, more medicaid, more free heating and air conditioning."

It's sad that our legacy now trains people to be government dependent instead of self dependent.

Thinking out loud...
Does the federal government issue marriage licenses? I don't think so. So why do they need to get involved in the definition of marriage? The reason may be that they have a stake since taxes on income and estates of the dearly departed are important to the federal government and marriage rules affect those taxes and what is collected. Also other federally funded benefits like for education and health may be impacted by the definition of marriage and dependents. The reason politicians are interested may go beyond tax law. Since most of them are whores beholden to special interest money, they are going to listen to groups who make a lot of noise, affect popular opinion (via Hollywood and the MSM for example), and fund their election efforts directly or by shaking down others.

If politicians recognized that things like marriage are the responsibility of the states and refuse to get involved at the federal level, then the lobby would finally go away. If income taxes were eliminated, another powerful avenue for lobbyists would also go away.

Republicans
Where in the world will it end? The Republicans have had more people of color in their cabnets than the Democrats. Evern old Black Willie. It did not make any difference to the black community, they still voted for the party that gave them all the entitlements. Why work or learn, Government is going to give it to us, they just take it away from those dumb enought to work.

Thank you, Mr. Blackwell!
Very good and heartening column. I hope we haven't seen the last of you on the national stage. As a WV-ian in state that touches all of them, I was pulling for you in OH, Lynn Swann in PA and Steele in MD in the 2006 elections. I hope you keep trying!

Fried Green Tomatoes
Mr. Blackwell, the first sentence in your article clearly exposes the nonsense that has innvervated politics in the past decade.

Who cares if Mr. Steele is black?

It won't make any difference in how he approaches things.

Mr. Steele is a moderate. His color and ethnicity have nothing to do with that. His brain, however, does.

Mr. Steele is emblematic of the "big tent" philosophy that has severely weakened the GOP: the message is so muddled, no one knows what they stand for anymore.

Mr. Steele will not change that by being a moderate.

Fried American
Who cares if he's black? Are you kidding me? It's HUGE that he's black. Right now a black face as head of the Pubs is exactly what we need.

Steele is charming and attractive. Is he up to the rigorous requirements of raising money and managing elections? We'll see.

But Steele is the best face for the GOP right now. Brains and philosophy? Money management? Get some help from behind the scenes.

Thank you, Mr. Blackwell,
for writing this article. I was concerned when I learned that Mr. Steele is considered a moderate, but your reassurances of his commmitment to conservative principles are very helpful. I was hoping that you would win the chairmanship, but I'm glad that Mr. Steele is someone that you, as a conservative, can support without reservation.

Re: Tanglelad post #12
Dear Lad I don’t know who you Tangle with, but you cannot tangle with me, I assure you!
1. “ People who do not revere God”
I revere God, not human beings. I know His Word enough to use my own interpretation of It.
2. “Here's your first lesson.”
And who made you a preacher, rabbi or mullah to teach me? A seminary or some other religious institution?
3. “Government does not love us. God does. “
I am here, writing to you, expressing my thoughts, based on how I understand the Bible, solely through the grace of God. Romanian dictator Ceausescu stopped my mother from having an abortion not because he loved me or my mother, but the reason why two large doses of Quinine injections did not expulse me from my mother’s womb, was God’s love for me. Through His grace, I am able to revere Him in both words and actions.

KG...
If Steele is a face man, maybe he ought to get booked on The View and on Oprah and see if he leaves intact. Ditto for Leno, Letterman, etc. It's one thing to preach to the choir, but another to enter the lion's den. Remember Jonah.

Steele the real deal
The first time I saw Michael Steele was at the GOP convention in 2000. He was Lt. Gov. and his speech was on core conservative values. Things you might have heard from Pres. Reagan. After his speech I jumped up and said "that's why I am Republican".

I was just on You-Tube checking out Steele and it looks like he's been on the right track for the last 9 years. While many Republicans like Bush and Mc Cain have been to far left. Next time Republicans have a majority I hope they remember the values that put them their.

Re: Joycey Post #24
Dear Joycey:
1. “How dare you…”
I don’t know about you, but that introduction sounds pretty threateningly provocative to me.
2. ”Are you saying God does not love those millions of unborn babies”
Those are not “babies”, and God loves even the suffering actual babies, as oxymoronic as that may sounds to an atheist
3. “How about the 1 lb. baby I saw in the nursery yesterday”
Is that a miracle of God or the “advances of science”? In spite of the fact that, that baby is already suffering from intubations, three-hourly blood tests, and perhaps even painful surgeries, I side with the fact that GOD LOVES THAT BABY! He, God, wanted that baby to be born. Why? Because that mother may have to learn to love and trust God, even when it is most difficult.
4. “Are you going to be the one to determine that for God? “
No. Are you?

I did not mean to provoke you to a bared teeth, clenched fisted polemic, but obviously that is the way you respond when your thought process is somewhat challenged. It is definitely not Christian, it is more Peter, the apostate apostle’s reaction toward the centurion who took Jesus into custody. And what did Jesus tell Peter? “Get behind me Satan”.

Thanks
Dear Mr. Blackwell,

Thank you for your unselfish and principled stand in this matter. Thank you for your diligent efforts in advocating conservative policies that protect our liberties. May your career be increasingly blessed.

QParker, You have bought into the lib
lie about "assault weapons". First, there are no, none, zip, zero, true assault weapons available to the general public. A true assault weapon is, by definition, a fully automatic (read machine gun) weapon and you have to have a special license in the US since 1934 to own one.

Second, I consider this law to be unConstitutional as are all gun restriction laws as the Second Amendment was written specifically to protect the individual citizen's ability to own the same weapons that the government has. This was to keep the government in check so that it would not use its size and influence to take away all our other rights. We do need assault weapons, bazookas, rocket launchers, tanks, fighter jets and bombs in order to take back our government from the unConstitutional power grab it has undertaken since before FDR.

Remember, when the government fears its citizens, the citizens have freedom. When the citizens fear the government, the citizens have socialism and are essentially slaves to the whims of the government.

Double Standard?
You all have been saying that blacks only voted for Obama because of race, but when Ken Blackwell supports another black, he and that person gets praise, while Obama and the blacks that voted for him get labeled racist. Micheal Steele isn't really all that conservative. His stances on abortion and affirmative action are not in line with most of the GOP constituency. It is only a matter of time that the base will be dissatisfied with another moderate republican in a leadership position.

Well said Ken Blackwell!
Thank God that conservatives have you and Michael Steele taking charge. We couldn't ask for two more able, decent and bright men!!

Maybe only a few of us???
Well, maybe I can speak for only a few of us who want a leader who will follow the laws on the books (illegal Immigration), fine the enablers, small govt., stop shipping off jobs to other countries, bring manufacturing back to the USA, expell all rino types, Illegals, and weed out the crooked politicians in govt.(this may be the most difficult).
Where are Atilla the Hun and Rurik the Viking when I need them? Ok, so I am right wing, and will never change.

Why blacks vote dem..
"Evern old Black Willie. It did not make any difference to the black community, they still voted for the party that gave them all the entitlements. Why work or learn, Government is going to give it to us, they just take it away from those dumb enought to work."

African Americans vote democratic because of so many idiots in the repub party like Woody who cling to old prejudices regarding people of color and the poor in general.

Steele has an excellent opportunity to change the perceived characteristics of the repub party as viewed by the African American community. However, if he has read some of the vile racist posts that (some) conservatives are proud to espouse on Town Hall, he may realize how difficult his task will be.

Michael Steele
Mr. Steele was a frequent guest on Hannity and Colmes during the campaigns and he impressed me as a decent man who can be tough when he has to.

Good choice GOP.

A Grand Old Party
We have tried it the RINO way. That didn't work. Those who would vote for a RINO would also vote for a Democrat or third party candidate. Unless the opposition is a far left radical such as B.Hussein.

We don't need to 'Reach Out' to others. We need to stand on the principles that won in the eighties. If 'others' believe the same, then welcome to the party.

African American this and African Americ
an That.

I am so sick of this crap. I wanted Michael Steele because he is young, fresh and brave. He stood up for what he believed in an election of robots in love with emotion and drama. He was a man in this election. He had guts, true grit.

Take Colin Powell, please and give me Michael Steele who was not an African American anything, but was an American from the deepest sense.

I think the man is in touch with the pulse of the up and coming generation, and combines that beautifully with dash and daring and brilliance.

Bravo, Michael Steele, bravo.

You compare such elegance with the the idiocy of demented Deano, and you get a Republican party ready for change with testosterone.

Give the girly girls like Reid and Pelosi their time and their true colors will appear like leprosy.

Stop calling him black, and just call him brilliant.

K. G.
"It's HUGE that he's black. Right now a black face as head of the Pubs is exactly what we need."

Exactly why is it HUGE that he's black?

List why Michael Steele is exactly what we need?

Who are you trying to impress?

Reagan was a liberal
Hoping I have your attention. This isn't about Reagan, but about the many who think they're conservative, but don't articulate well what a conservative should be. I caught a bit of Tom Coburn on the Hannity show yesterday, and he was talking about certain aspects of a stimulus bill he thought would be good. Now I will agree that he is the most conservative Senator, and would love for more like him, but when the most conservative senator is advocating Constitutional violation, how far have we strayed? It's not just about limited government, it's about ensuring that we implement that form of limited government that was given to us, and is the law of the land. How can this battle really be won when so many conservatives even make room for a little something beyond the Constitutional LIMITS(limits; as in go no further)of Article 1, Section 8. This kind of "limited" government is something that unfortunately is not being espoused within the Republican Party and allows the line to be constantly moved. One might say "Well this is a legitimate need for government, so let's do this." Well I say no what can be done has already been given, FIGHT FOR THAT.And I'm sorry, as preferable as Steele is to Duncan, the GOP is still a long way off.

Black Repub/Con? Great Career Move..
does anyone out there really not understand that
people like Michael Steele, Armstrong Williams,
Condeleeza Rice, Thomas Sowell, Ken Blackwell, Larry Elder and others haven't figured that becoming a black repub/con is a great career move?

They know that if they remain in the Democratic Party they will be faces among the crowd of upwardly mobile blacks and it will be hard to stand out among the crowd. So if you can take the heat, the next best thing is to jump over
to the GOP where you will stick out like a sore thumb and be welcomed to show that the GOP indeed has some diversity.

You will become a star in their universe of tokenism and richly rewarded financially for adopting the racist rhetoric and dogma of the repub/cons movement and using against your own people. You will be called hero for "escaping the democratic plantation".

or maybe...
...people like Michael Steele, Armstrong Williams, Condeleeza Rice, Thomas Sowell, Ken Blackwell, Larry Elder and others...

really do have conservative convictions and are unwilling to repress them. Maybe they recognize that they are better off doing for themselves rather than waiting for the government to do it to them. Or maybe they just don't like to hang out with people whose hygiene is poor.

Thank you, Mr Blackwell
We appreciate your hard work to get the Republican message out. Michael Steele will be a good spokesperson for all of us, but we know it takes a team effort to get the job done.

FeedFwd: stereotypically speaking
you make the case that when repubs/cons talk about minorities, especially blacks they are speaking out of ignorance just as you are when you say some nonsense like:

"Maybe they recognize that they are better off doing for themselves rather than waiting for the government to do it to them. Or maybe they just don't like to hang out with people whose hygiene is poor.

so you saying black dems are lazy and they stink? how white of you..lol

FeedFwd
I would love to reach out to Democrats but the leftist dims control the party through the pmm (Propaganda Media Machine), the celebs, the unions, the minorities, the feminists, the global warmers, the academia leftists, etc and all are dictated to by Soros and kos. And that group doesn't reach out to anybody. They try to intimidate and only with an "in your face" campaign of steady facts on the conservative side do we convince American Democrats to see the light.

Aniko
Sorry for delay. Was sending my daughter to Germany.

You're first lesson was bible 101. I learned if fighting against the Communists.

You equated our free will under God to be a free will to murder. You impugned Christian evangelicals of which I am one, and lend your vast Christian knowledge and love to tell us what Free Will ACTUALLY means. God has given YOU the knowledge of what it means “to be true followers of Christ”.

God has already deemed life a blessing, it's not a case by case basis.

According to your interpretation of God's word, what God hates (abomination) we are, under a mandate from God, to let become the teachers of our children, and authors of our culture?

Since God has blessed you with all knowledge of His will and our sins, and all power to condemn, perhaps we don't even need to go to God. We just need to come to you since he has anointed you to such an extent.

I would think that someone who has lived under a regime that tells people what to think, you might have learned that it is a bad thing.

left angle...
No, I wasn't limiting my ad hominum attack to black dems, but to all ldems. Some black dems may simply have a poor sense of smell and poor eyesight. And it was only offered as a possibility, not a definitive assertion. Unlike you who appear to be saying that all black republicans are narcissistic dandies. How white of you! lol

Hi-liar-y, I personally find 1-on-1 encounters with liberals more rewarding. They are more likely to let their guard down when they are not in the herd. They don't always respond as I would like, but generally the tenor is more amiable, less irrational and hysterical.

A Note to the “Dixiecrats”

For those Conservatives who remember that term, please remember their exodus from the Democratic Party in the early 1960's. Most of them became independents and joined George Wallace. However, some became Republicans and what followed was not a pretty site. The annihilation of the Republican Party in 1964 and the rise of the “Welfare State” was a consequence of Conservatives behaving like Eagles and REFUSING to flock together until 1980. Now, here we are again, 2008 was NOT an the kind of loss we experienced in 1964 but it was born of the same “Flocking” problem.

The Religious Right refused to Flock with the “Who gives a damn about the Social issues,” small government advocates. The Country Club Republicans who's only God is one that protects their wealth supported NE Liberals like “Unfit-Mitt” or Rudy. The Neo-Cons, who still had control of the G.O.P. Machine saw an opportunity to divide and conquer thus hanging on to power for it's own sake. AND now we have a Socialist ant-family nightmare.

Yes my friends, we have Liberal 5th columnists (claiming to be conservatives) on this thread, and yes we also have members of the GAP (Gay Activists Patrol) doing the same. BUT, this is a new day and Michael Steele can lead you Republicans back to the winning coalition of the Reagan Revolution. No candidate will ever be perfect (Reagan wasn't) but IF WE JOIN FORCES, next time, we can win. So lets select a Conservative “Pro-Family” reformer like Governor Jindal and a good teammate and begin the “Regan-like” comeback. NOW is the time to begin organizing at the grassroots level.

We need an Internet strategy that will bring in the BIG bucks and help organize the American people... NOT Far-Right Racists Ranters. Michael Steel can reform the GOP!

Michael W.
“Reagan Democrat”

A Breath of Fresh Air
Maybe just maybe Conservatives will come back to the GOP. We have been bitter and feeling abandoned for so long we were almost willing to give up. Michael Steel has bonified Conservative credentials and I hail his taking the reins of the GOP.

I hope he can reach out and gather all the Conservative and Independent groups that have been formed to support and promote Conservative ideals in this country. Many are very active on the internet and could be invaluable in grassroot efforts to identify and elect Conservatives to office.

A recent addition to the Conservative internet force is the rapidly growing resistnet.com. Many state chapters are being formed and organized. Check it out for your state and members.

For Rich Not Wealthy
Pardon me. That was a 2006 quote from your new RNC Chairman. If half the people posting here would take a moment to discover what this guy really believes, they would be shocked.

Centrist?
I just read in Politico about Michael Steele's relationship with Christy Todd Whitman, who is indeed not my brand of Republican.

My opinions about Michael Steele were based on his debate prowess. I had seen him many times on Hannity & Colmes and he kept Alan Colmes in the "time out" box, making me very happy. He debated many hard hitters and in my opinion came out on top. He didn't balk, or back down from anyone.

One night he made Kirsten Powers look like a first semester freshman. It was awesome.

Saying all this, I believe the Republican party should see the left as a pack of pariah-like
Hyenas, eating American values for lunch right down to the last grain.

Re: Tanglewood post #6
Dear Tanglewood

“You equated our free will under God to be a free will to murder”

Murder is extinguishing a human life that is able to sustain all its metabolical needs on its own. . A human fetus can’t do that until about the first weeks of the 3rd trimester. Until that time, like it or not, an embryo or even a fetus leads a parasitical existence, and the mother-to-be (or “not to be”) is a mere willing (or unwilling) host. We don’t “murder” a blade of grass or a mosquito. The expression of “murdering babies” is a vicious exaggeration, and totally inaccurate.

“lend your vast Christian knowledge and love to tell us what Free Will ACTUALLY means”

I am not telling any conscientious Christian to listen to me, I merely try to convince the evangelical activists to lighten up on our Republican leaders. As it stands, we got worse leaders in the executive branch, as well as the legislative branches of our government than Republicans ever were.
“We just need to come to you since he has anointed you to such an extent.”

I am not as presumptuous as some evangelical Christians who recite Bible verses as poems they merely memorized, but likely never contemplated about. Not much different than the Israelites who wanted to stone the adulteress, or who chose a murderer to be freed rather that the Son of God. They just listened to their “betters”.

“I would think that someone who has lived under a regime that tells people what to think, you might have learned that it is a bad thing.”

Not to repeat myself, I never told you, or anyone else, what to think or do. If I understand the message of Christ correctly, “you give Caesar what is Caesar’s”. Faith and politics don’t make a good mix. Just look at the history of the Vatican. People of faith should never expect God’s will to be fulfilled through their political leaders, or even by their religious leaders for that matter. All a good Christian can do is vote and then pray for the one whom they voted for.

Michael W.
Social conservatives are the predominant faction of the GOP now. However, that's not enough to win elections. IMO, it seems we'll need to broaden the natural base.

And, I didn’t say we couldn’t have social conservatism, at least as it was traditionally defined (i.e., keeping big government from interfering with traditional values). Rather, I said they probably won’t be electable if they want “big government social conservatism (i.e., coercive promotion of traditional values with the power of big government).

Here's an example. I'm pro-life, but I didn't vote for McCain (I voted for Bob Barr) for many reasons, one of which was that I didn't support the big government, activist social conservative GOP platform. I'm sure I wasn't alone.

Focus on the Family claims they are pro-life, but are they hurting the pro-life cause by driving away those who would otherwise vote for pro-life candidates by insisting on things like a federal ban on online poker? After all, this "freedom is dangerous" attitude of some within the party doesn't resonate with a lot of voters. Sure, they may be proud of themselves for standing by their values, but wouldn’t the pro-life cause been better served with a victory than a complete takeover of the federal government by Democrats?

It may be time to separate the "nice to haves" from the "must haves."

What a beautiful Response

From: Our fellow “American”AZ f**k you.

And don't call me “Son” I'm 65 years old and I damn-well know what a Racist “Dixiecrat” is!

When you say things like: “Mr. Blackwell, the first sentence in your article clearly exposes the nonsense that has innvervated [sic] politics in the past decade. Who cares if Mr. Steele is black?

Obviously a lot of Americans care about minorities getting ahead (on merit) and without being bad-mouthed by Far-Right Racist “Wing-Nuts.” People like you are what keeps the Republican Party divided and therefore you ARE a 5th Columnist (regardless of which WING you represent).

In my, not so humble, opinion Conservatives like you need to put in a dark closet until the election cycle is over, because all you do is bring everyone else down without offering any uplifting solutions.

Put that in your “Classical Liberal Pipe” and smoke it.

Amiko
Listen here Himmler

You have defined when a pregnancy is a full human life or just an “accident of nature”. You defined when it is a curse or blessing, a mistake and “not “babies”. YOU have decided who is worthy of life and who is worthy of death based on nothing but the circumstances of their conception and the environment they are created in. You declared that to kill a baby IS to exercise your gift of God. You defined a human life out of the depths of your imagination. Where is this “metabolic” definition derived from, Josef Mengele?

And then to “Are you going to be the one to determine that for God?” You said - "No. Are you?"

You have decided what exactly God Almighty can use as a tool to teach us in life. You alone.

You equated the intolerant attitude toward abominations with the actual sins themselves.

When they came for Christ, He did not tell Peter “Get behind me satan”. He told him to put his sword away.

You defined the political pressure of evangelicals as SIN. We shouldn't pressure representatives to make laws that undermine the gift of free will???????? To do evil is also free will. God instituted governments to bring order to the world. Do you need the bible verses? If government doesn't control our free will, it's called anarchy.

You said that if evangelicals consider themselves true followers of Christ we should just do charity. Liberal-speak for roll over and accept what ever is done to us. You think we're stupid.

Then you had the audacity to say -

'I am not telling any conscientious Christian to listen to me'

'I am not as presumptuous as some evangelical Christians. '

'I never told you, or anyone else, what to think or do.'

You are an arrogant, equivocating leftist, excusing sin while declaring your own righteousness. Creating legalism out of thin air and wielding it like a whip. You just walk away from these forums tickled that you've angered people, don't you?

Thank you Ken Blackwell
Mr. Blackwell, You fell on the sword as Secretary of State to ensure that the 2004 presidencial election was fair in Ohio. Your competence may have cost you the governship in 2008. The media's onslaughter(new word)of President Bush as well as Governer Taft also was detrimental to you winning. I would like to urge you to run again in Ohio for either Governor or U.S. Senator.

Mr. Blackwell, I believe you speak for the core constituants of the Republican party. We need your voice.

Mr. Blackwell, I would also ask you review the November 2008 election in Ohio. I do not have confidence that there were not fraudulent votes cast in Ohio in early voting. In early voting, you could show up at the election board and cast your vote without any identification. I find it strange that on eletion day of November 4th you had to present ID at your precinct to vote but on November 3, anyone could show up at the election board and vote by giving your name and address, but not asked to present ID. If there was fraud, it needs to be exposed.

Michael W. 2
" I'm 65 years old and I damn-well know what a Racist “Dixiecrat” is!"

The hell you're 65. A 65 year old would know to temper his judgment about a person before he shows his ignorance.

He would also know what a racist is, and would not resort to back-handed comments and innuendo with no fact whatsoever.

Can you show me anywhere in my original statement that I said that I didn't care for minorities to get ahead?

Knee-jerk much?

I got on Blackwell because his first sentence was a paean to progressives. I stated I didn't care what color he was.

Who is making the play on color, fella?

The only division here is yours. My statement was straight forward. What part of "Michael Steele is a moderate" flew over your head?

You are the dividing one here. You even categorized and itemized each person you disagreed with like a typical progressive.

I don't know what your politics are, and frankly, I don't give a damn.

The fact that you can twist such a simple message of mine and morph it into some sick twisted view says more about you than it does me.

If you care to debate me on those merits of what I stated in my original post that got you all hot and bothered, well, you know how to do that.

But you can stick your Dixiecrat theory in your unmentionables.

Well “The-Engineer”

I think Tang-le-lad has summed my point pretty well

This is why you need the Religious Right to insure that the Republican Party rids itself of the culture of corruption that goes with “Corporate Welfare.”

Those Republicans who are devoid of principles and vales will always push Big Government, so they can more easily “Fleece” the common man.

When the American People are faced with ONLY a choice between the corruption of “Welfare State” (Liberal Democrats) and the culture of corruption that goes with “Corporate Welfare” (The K-Street Mob), the choice is an easy one, because no one sees the lost of basic liberties that follows.

The NEW Revolution will be upon us when “Free Speech” rights are gradually taken away. Meanwhile, cutting and pasting your previous post is not an answer unless you wish to expand upon your original thoughts?

No tingle up my leg!
Unlike Chris Matthews, I did not get tingles up my leg, I got a sinking feeling in my stomach as Steele has been a moderate in the past , Not the lifelong conservative we need. I do not care if he is Asian, European, Native or African American, we need a CONSERVATIVE-period. Moderates and RINO's got us in this mess and it will take Conservatives to get us back. Race is what the Dems. have used for years and for the Republican's to follow them down that road will lead to more loses in 2010.

Having a Conservative Platform does no good if those elected do not follow it. I turst Steele knows he has to work to get Conservatives, Social and Fiscal, back and being the first anything will not cut it--promoting Conservative values might, no guarantees here.

I have not renewed my Party membership yet and will not until I know what direction my once Conservative Party is headed. I will not walk down a "Moderate" path headed to a "Big" tent. If I end up as a party of One, so be it, but I refuse to do what too many Country Club Republicans have done--compromise their values to be "liked" by the "beltway" crowd.

Our fellow “American”AZ

From: Our fellow “American”AZ f**k you. AND “The hell you're 65.”

A 65 year old would know to temper his judgment about a person before he shows his ignorance.”

What other interpretation would be drawn from: “Mr. Steele is emblematic of the "big tent" philosophy that has severely weakened the GOP: the message is so muddled, no one knows what they stand for anymore.”

This is typical elitist Republican code for: We don't need anyone but white males who think like we do! People like you have been railing against the Big Tent every since Ronald Reagan put the original winning coalition together.

I feel NO need to “temper” my judgment when I hear or see comments like yours. You are just another ranter who has nothing better to do and nothing positive to contribute.

You can run, but you can't hide from reality. We Conservative white males need Conservative minorities to beat these worthless Liberals and their Secular Humanist Agenda.

As it happens, I worked in Democrats for Steele while spending time with friends in Maryland in 2006.

Michael is a small government “Pro-Life” Conservative Republican and YOU don't know what you are talking about.

And one more thing. I handed out lit for Gen. Eisenhower when I was 8, worked in JFK's campaign when I was 16. I also have been active in grass roots activities for every Republican Presidential candidate since Reagan, so do the math and don't tell me about politics you Knuckle Dragging Wing-Nut.

Michael W
Race, color, or creed should not stop, or prohibit anyone from being a Republican. History suggests anyone with a basic political knowledge should be one, regardless of age.

I come from the border south west. I think I posted before that my father and mother were both die hard Democrats, and my mother ended up working for several Democratic politicians.

All of whom would be considered Republican extremists today.

Welcome Anderson659

The right kind of Republican. Thanks for the posting! And Yes you did tell me about your parents and I understand.

If and when the Republican party “Reforms” itself, then I might consider it? But in truth, I would love to split the Democratic Party vote and keep electing GOOD Republicans
until such a time that we can take back the “Peoples Party” from the “Radically Wrong.”

I know, “You can put Lipstick on a Pig, but it's still a Pig.”

As you can see, I having a problem with one or two of the Far-Right folks on this thread. It's the same old issues of Conservative Eagles don't flock together, even when there
are Liberal Pigeons for the taking.

95% of this thread is positive and hopeful, but as always, there are the omnipresent 5th Columnists and/or negative
naysayers.

I think like most other posters that Michael Steele is the RIGHT Man for the job. In any event, NOW is the time to organize at the grassroots level for 2010,and I know you will be doing your part. Thanks Again...

To all you who keep
saying conservatives are wrong and need to compromise in order to stay in this fight. You are wrong.

You need to stop calculating and trying to get us to compromise also. Obviously some of you are NOT Republicans, and those who are Republicans plan to vote no matter what, for anyone that has an R after there name just to win against full fledged socialists. Steel looks good and sounds good. But so does Obama. Steel is not conservative on some major issues. Period. I don't care if he's purple. If only black people were conservatives, I'd be a marshmallow in a sea of chocolate.

You haven't calculated that it is your type of compromise that has gotten us to the 75%-liberal status were are now in. Since Conservatives will no longer follow this plan, you should change your politics and get behind us instead of expecting it the other way around.

You may convince some, but a goodly portion of the base will NOT compromise their votes. We will no longer compromise our values to bring in groups. There is only one group to vote for. And instead of convincing Conservatives to compromise major conservative issues, your efforts should be to educate those other groups of the benefits of conservatism.

Just why do you think so many liberals (fake conservatives) are posting on these forums with every distraction and muddling of the issue to get us to compromise more? It's because they can see that it has worked.

You all compromise. My conscience is clear.

Why I Endorsed Ken Blackwell
"Principle must trump politics. I would rather endorse no one than endorse someone I feared might abandon the GOP’s values and priorities."

Anderson659... You See ?

This is what I am talking about! AND I believe Tanglelad to be a true conservative.

Yet we keep getting racists remarks like: “If only black people were conservatives....” Ken Blackwell and Michael Steele ARE Conservative “Pro-Family” Republicans (period).

As I said, 95% of the posters feel good about Steele, based on his defense of conservative principles on Fox News and his run for the Senate in MD, as a “Pro-Life” Republican.

He made it clear that he would NOT compromise on the “Social Issues” in that very Liberal State. Michael did NOT pull a Romney or Giuliani and go Liberal on the Social Issues to get elected?

Is he a Far-Right “Wing-Nut”? NO!

Tanglelad Location: CO Feb 4, 2009 - 10:00 AM EST

“Obviously some of you are NOT Republicans, and those who are Republicans plan to vote no matter what, for anyone that has an R after there name just to win against full fledged socialists.”

My answer: YES, some of us are NOT Republicans, but I have not heard ONE poster say that they support liberal Republicans like Rudy or “Unfit-Mitt.” So why can't more Republicans be like: “indyconantidim” Location: TX Feb 3, 2009 - 5:34 AM EST ?

Just remember “Purists,” every hole you leave in the Conservative line will be filled by someone less Conservative than you

AND here is another Example of a confused soul (I don't know how I missed this one) Michael Location: IL Feb 3, 2009 - 8:57 AM EST: He starts off GREAT and then point “#5) Embrace civil unions for gays... followed by...6) Stand on [PRINCIPLE?]. Don't buckle, don't waiver, no more basing decisions on fear!!!...”

Talk about confused? The whole idea behind protecting the next generation is NOT to make it easier for Homosexuals to adopt children. Civil Unions would help them do that..

Michael Steele
Have heard Mr. Steele talk several times over the last few years. It would have been a real bad day for B. Obama if he had debated Steele before the election.

Had I been familiar with Mr. Steele sooner, I would have sent him money when he ran for governor in Maryland.

Tom
Indiana

Pro-Abortion Chairman?
I'm appalled by Michael Steele's comments favoring abortion. With Steele as RNC chairman the Republican party no longer represents my core values. What a shame! It's time for a new party made up of men and women with deeply held moral convictions. Michael Steele is clearly NOT such a man, and the Republican party with him at the helm has fallen from grace.
