McCain-Huckabee?

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

This has been a great week for Senator John McCain. Being endorsed by major newspapers, as well as 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee Senator Joe Lieberman, John McCain has reasserted himself as someone who could win it all.

There are reasons for this success. His continued push on ending the disgrace of earmarks, balancing the budget, expanding the military and transforming entitlements still resonates. And the Iraq turnaround has turned around Mr. McCain’s chances.

The fact is that Senator McCain’s credentials to be commander-in-chief are the strongest of anyone running in either party. Only Rep. Duncan Hunter of California comes close to Mr. McCain’s military expertise. After all, the president’s primary duty is to protect the American people.

Many originally thought that the GOP nomination was Mr. McCain’s for the asking, motivating liberal activists to attack him early on in the campaign season.

Then the senator ran into two challenges. The first was his connection to the Iraq War. Deriding the Iraq troop surge as the Bush-McCain surge, Democrats tied the frustrations from Iraq around the senator’s neck. Now the incredible progress on the ground in Iraq has made that association an asset. Mr. McCain long pushed for what has now become a winning military strategy.

But the biggest challenge Mr. McCain faced — and continues to face — is that frankly, some Republicans just don’t trust him. It goes deeper than policy disagreements on issues like campaign-finance and immigration. Many Republicans believe that Mr. McCain does not share their values or priorities. Some conservative leaders believe Mr. McCain’s team has been dismissive, or even contemptuous.

Early in this cycle Senator McCain and his strategy team clearly underestimated just how deep the distrust and disconnect ran in many circles. Even if he wins the nomination in a divided field without these people, he cannot win the general election without getting their support. Those on his team who thought all these people would simply “come around” don’t understand large segments of the base who would rather stay home than vote for someone they consider hostile to what they hold most dear.

John McCain needs to solidify that base.

Politics is about relationships. The senator has done some work to build or repair these relationships. While the late Reverend Jerry Falwell was only one influential leader among the Christian Right, the fact that Mr. McCain reached out to him was seen as an olive branch by some. And the Senator’s appearance before an NRA gathering was a positive move toward another major bloc that he often antagonized.

But many of these relations are so bad that it’ll take a lot more than isolated gestures. He needs to reach out and open meaningful dialogues. Senator McCain should spend time with the leaders of these organizations and movements, and specifically address their concerns, even if it’s only to respectfully disagree on some points. Additionally and perhaps even more importantly, he needs to try bringing more people representing these conservative elements of the Reagan coalition onto his team so that he can represent the broad spectrum of the Republican “big tent.”

Specifically, the one issue where Mr. McCain could benefit immensely by taking a clear stand is judges. Many people misunderstand the senator’s membership in the Gang of 14 to be compromising on judicial appointments, when actually his moves secured the confirmation of some of our finest appellate judges, some of whom could be Supreme Court nominees. Mr. McCain should do what Rudy Giuliani has done, making judges a stump speech issue and putting conservatives at ease on what the number one issue is for many of them.

But Mr. McCain needs more help than just strengthening his stand on judges to energize the base. He needs a running mate who will excite those with reservations. His record on the issues is good enough for pro-lifers, Second Amendment supporters, the Christian Right, and philosophical conservatives to be eager for him if his running mate is an outspoken advocate for conservative social causes.

Enter Mike Huckabee. He is the only major candidate to be a longtime leader on all the social issues of life, marriage, faith, and the Second Amendment. Governor Huckabee has become a phenomenon representing the dreams of millions of social conservatives, and whose presence on the ticket would light a fire in those camps to enthusiastically work for Mr. McCain.

Of course, Mr. Huckabee will vigorously assert that he’s running for president, not vice president. And looking at his current standing in Iowa and the national polls, he may well make that happen. He’ll no doubt say that people should be asking whether he’d be willing to take Senator McCain as his running mate, not the other way around.

The other major candidates are surely still contenders for the nomination, while other conservatives could make good running mates. Mr. Giuliani, especially, could yet recover and take the prize. We’ll know soon enough.

John McCain’s challenges are largely of his own making, as are his strengths. The next couple of weeks will be fascinating.

Long ago everyone was talking about McCain. Then everyone thought he was finished. Now he's back and starting to look strong again. Amazing.

McCain - Because ethics are over rated.
McCain is indeed the best candidate. During the S&L crisis, he proved that he was willing to accept bribes in order to help out special interests at the expense of the people. Too many candidates wish to remain untainted by the stench of graft money, but McCain actually made the effort to prove that he was willing to break the rules if it meant helping out an influential citizen such as Charles Keating.

We need men like McCain at the helm. Men that are willing to help others when the going gets tough, even if such help happens to line their pockets with illegally accepted funds. Men that are willing to do what is best for themselves financially, even if it does manage to cost the taxpayers a few million more dollars. Men who are willing to sell their integrity and office to the highest bidder. Men who are willing to sell out their very nation if it advances them financially.

America needs a risk taker like McCain. Because corruption is sometimes necessary when you hold political office.

The best in the current field?
I can't believe there aren't more comments on this. I've been thinking of a McCain-Huckabee ticket for a couple of weeks now. I think Huckabee on his own is too much of a "Rep." Jimmy Carter, but as a VP he would bridge a gap for McCain who could quite possibly, despite his age, be the right man for the times....Someone who can carry on the fight against terror without being "more of the same" (eg Bush's misteps)....

loyal democrat
is clearly scared to death of mccain.

Huckabee makes sense for many
Among the leaders, McCain, Rudy, and Romney, all can attract moderate and even liberal Republicans. Each face a problem when it comes to the religious right though. Huckabee would help balance the ticket for any of these guys.

That being said, I'm not sure any of the 3 listed above would be interested in Huckabee. They should be looking at other options on the far right that don't carry the baggage that Huckabee does. Or find someone who hasn't made the same silly mistakes like "Don't Mormons believe ..." questions.

Huckabee is about to become an after-thought. If he loses in Iowa (latest polls indicate Romney is coming in strong) and Romney takes NH, Huckabee is finished. It will be Romney vs Rudy ... and even then Rudy won't have a chance. If Huckabee can win Iowa he remains in the game. I'm just not sold he can carry the momentum for another 3 weeks.

Mr. Blackwell you get a one
This is for even bringing up this nightmare of a scenario. So the Democrats and liberal newspapers endorse McShame and the Republicans are supposed to roll over and say "we were wrong, he is the conservative we have been looking for". Mr. Blackwell you should go back and read the "about Townhall" statement. This is supposed to be a conservative site, not a RINO site.

Shouldn't it tell you something that liberal newspapers and Lamocrats are endorsing him? H*ll, you don't even have to go look at his record for dissing the conservative base.

KEN BLACKWELL SPEAKS ABOUT MC CAIN
LET'S HOPES HE'S NOT A CORUPT AS YOU...

BY THE WAY, HOW MANY PEOPLE IN OHIO DIDN'T GET TO VOTE IN THE LAST PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, MR. BLACKWELL?

OR IS THAT INFORMATION BEEN FOREVER SEALED BY THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH?

THANK GOD, I'M A RECOVERING REPUBLICAN NOW

NEVER AGAIN WILL I VOTE A REPUBLICAN TICKET, I'D LEAVE THE COUNTRY FIRST.

The Ticket that would make me most happy
First of all, I'm scared to death to have another State Governor from Arkansas in the White House. We did that before and it turned out to be the most scandal-ridden administration in the history of the United States. It saw the biggest tax increase in history, gutted military and intelligence budgets, did not respond appropriately to terrorist acts, wiped his buttocks with the Bill of Rights and so on, and so on.

I'm not sayin' that Huckabee would be another Clinton, but digging a candidate out of Arkansas just makes me nervous.

Don't even get me started on McCain. He's the only candidate in the race who has worked hard in his career to diminish both the First Amendment and the Second Amendment.

The ticket I would like to see in Hunter/Thompson 08. Duncan Hunter is not getting the kind of press he richly deserves.

McCainmentum & Illegal Immigration
A very interesting post!

Lately I have been finding me having less and less of an issue of the candidacy of Sen. John McCain and it prompted me to start figuring out why I had a problem in the first place. One glaring blemish was his sponsorship of the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Law. A close second was his absolute tone-deafness on the immigration issue.

NO MAS!
No Juan McQuisling and free tuition for ILLEGALS and crime clemency Huckster!

We have been there and done that with a neoCON, open border globalist! On the 2 most important issues of his unfortunate tenure, Presidente Jorge has engendered a neoCON war against the wrong bad Islamics which will cost us $2 TRILLION all-in (per CBO) for the supposed benefit of a tiny foreign nation ($400,000 of American taxpayer $ per Israeli) only to further destabilize the M.E. and enhance animus toward us...

AND, Jorge has embraced his Mexican amigos at the ineluctable expense of Middle Americans who elected him amid subterfuge. He has surreptitiously promised to send non-existent/already plundered S.S. funds south to Mexico, even as he told them in Spanish down there that he would work hard for THEM (the Mexican people) to assure passage of Scamnesty (so-called "C.I.R.").

LD

Is Loyal Democrat one of the few posters that sees through this charade?

John McCain is a fine man; a war hero, and someone whom I believe is mostly sincere in wanting the best for the country.

However, there is something that is just not right with the guy; be it his hair-trigger temper, or his RINO leanings that sneak out every now and again, or his past (as LD has so ably pointed out) that WILL catch up to him. Count on the MSM to go whole-hog should he ever get the nomination.

And HUCKABEE?? Are you serious? Not only is this guy a charlatan, a fraud, a snake-oil salesman, a corrupt, back-stabbing weasel, but he's also an incompetent fool.

But let me tell you what I really think:

A McCain/Huckabee ticket is EXACTLY what the New York Times/Boston Globe/LA Times et al would LOVE to see.

That would be a ticket that will allow Hillary to absolutely WALTZ into the White House.

Blackwell, you really disappoint with this one.

I do not agree with McCain
on a number of issues, especially immigration, but as he stated, "I got the message".

I am willing to accept his word on it as he is the best candidate running to steer this ship of state during the next presidential term[s].

No one else has the background to both understand the threats we face and a thorough knowledge and support of the US military.

Certainly no democrat and especially clinton.

I trust McCain on all things pertaining to keeping this country safe, I trust him on the economic front as his record of fighting special interests and pork is a very long one.

He is called a maverick for a reason folks, he doesn't suffer fools gladly and won't go along with the crowd when they are bent on screwing us with their little pet projects.

I've met him twice, I was impressed then and remain so today despite the few differences I have, I also met his father having served in the Pacific when he was CincPac, the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

I predict Mccain will be the next President and the country and our families will be the better for it.

The polls
Polls are all over the map. Nationally, the most recent are 1) NBC/Wall Street Journal show Guiliani and Romney at 20%, and Huckabee at 17%; 2)Gallup shows Guiliani at 27%, Huckabee at 16%, and three at 14%; and 3)Reuters/Zogby shows Guiliani at 23%, Huckabee at 22%, and Romney at 16%. In no case does McCain come out in the top 3. In Iowa, the last 3 polls show Huckabee in front of Romney by 28% to 25%, 31% to 22%, and 36% to 23%. In South Carolina, they show Huckabee and Romney tied at 23%, and Huckabee leading Romney at 24% to 16%, and by 30% to 19%. And in New Hampshire, Romney leads by various margins. In Florida, we see similar results. Guiliani, Huckabee and Romney are reported in one at 25%, 21% and 13%. In a second, we have Huckabee at 27%, Romney at 23%, and Guiliani at 19%, and in a third, they show Guiliani at 29%, Huckabee at 24%, and Romney at 20%.

Other than New Hampshire, McCain does not get into the top 3 anywhere. Further, the surge we see shows Huckabee having made the biggest recent move, whereas Romney seems to have also picked up some support outside of Iowa.

Personally, I wouldn't take too many bets on anyone right now. It's clear that the race is completely up in the air.

What does appear likely is that Blankley may have been right yesterday when he predicts a brokered convention. Huckabee may do well - particularly in the South and in some of the farm belt, and Guiliani and Romney may battle out the industrial states.

We can only wait.

I'm with Vic
This gets a one. If Mcquack gets the Nom, there will be no doubt I will write in my dog's name!
Really the only thing I can not make my mind up on is who would be the worse of the four. Mcquack,, huckary, rudary, or mittary!
Of course the worse thing would be is he probably would make some kind of new “free speech kill bill” and TH would have to go off the air!

Huckabee Needs to be at the Top
I think it should be a Huckabee-McCain ticket. Think about it. Huck is doing something no other candidate has been able to do; he's rallying the base. Heartland America is putting a groundswell behind Huck. Now if he has McCain as his VP and President of the Senate think of all the things they could get done. McCain has seen the light on sealing the border, They both believe in winning in Iraq and destroying Alqeida, Huck is for doing away with the IRS and having energy independence in 10 years. Huckabee-McCain, yea, that's the ticket!!!!

Exactly Two Senators
Have become POTUS: JFK and Warren G. Harding. I was a kid when JFK was in, and getting assassinated has made him memorable - difficult to say whether he would have been otherwise. Harding I had to look up on Wikipedia to know anything about.

Presidents are most often selected from Vice Presidents and Governors. In that regard, Huckabee has a much better chance than McCain, as does Romney. And Guiliani, having been mayor of a city with a larger population than many states, arguably has more executive experience than McCain.

McCain was an officer in the military, which suggests perhaps some management experience, but as a pilot not much if any, and having been a POW and coming from a military family does not in my mind elevate him above the others in his qualifications for commander in chief.

McCain is like Dole - he thinks that because he's put his time in and reached across the aisle (which in turn undermined the will of his own party) he's some how entitled to the job. He should have run for governor or VP some time ago. I think I would prefer Ron Paul to McCain; at least he is a man of conviction. But since Huckabee supports the FairTax, he'd be my pick today if I had to choose.

Too Liberal too Democrate
John McCain's way to friendly with Teddy. Some of his voting history is way left. You cant predict what he will do. They both lost me on immigration issues. If thats my choice Ill stay home on election day.

galltegfa
You're wrong. Andrew Jackson was a senator.

And besides, if both the Rs and the Ds nominate a senator, then a senator will definitely be president! Or am I missing something?

JimM writes:

Funny how many of them “see the light” (think of it as a convict gets saved when he goes to jail) and politicians get Religious when election time gets here. Just a little more than “suspect” if you ask me.
This reminds me of the fact that we see billary in a lot more church settings when its election time! Can you tell me if he has "seen the light" on any bill that kills free speech?

He was also governor of Florida.

Two Senators Running
I am suggesting that the GOP would have the edge if they ran a governor.

Great ticket......
if you want to completely gut the Constitution.

McCain has already attacked the 1st Amendment with the Incumbent Protection Act which dictates who can say what and when during an election campaign. Huckabee sounds too much like a compassionate conservative who would attempt more do-gooder legislation to save us from ourselves (nationwide smoking ban, government pressure/mandates to fix our eating habits?).

The Constitution mandates a very limited federal government with specified powers and authorities. Neither of these men understand that fundamental point. Unfortunately, the only two candidates who seem to have even read the document (Thompson & Paul) have little chance of winning anything.

Too many negatives:
1. Amnesty bill sponsor
2. McCain-Feingold sponsor
3. Too old and crusty

Sounds good to me
The McCain-Huckabee ticket is something I've been talking about for a while. Of the GOP candidates, these are the only two guys who I trust, and I think they would be a nightmare for the Dems come election day. While I would be ok with either configuration, I do believe that McCain has much better credentials to be commander-in-chief. But both are men of integrity, and should be given a hard look from anyone who is looking for candidates who will do what they believe is right for America, instead of being party shills. That's what we need in Washington!

McCain
is no conservative. He is a RINO, as evidenced by his conspiring with Teddy, and Feingold. If he is on the ticket, I will use the write-in, and vote for none of the above. Don't stay home, though, as it is a vote for whoever the dems put in. I will vote for Ron Paul before McCain, or
Rudy.

You've GOT to be kidding!
McCain is not going to be able to solidify the base by talking. His extensive record is too much of a rhinoceros to clear up with a little lipstick! His biggest problem is that he cannot be trusted. This is the guy who pushed legislation that completely gutted the first amendment's free speech clause. He actually sold the sheep on the idea that free speech does NOT apply to political speech when that was originally THE speech to which the amendment applied! His membership in the Gang of 14 did NOT get Roberts and Alito onto the court. It protected the practice of requiring a super-majority for judicial appointments! His open support of the Mexican invasion is nothing short of appalling, and his closeness to Ted Kennedy just illustrates his status as a leading RINO! If ANYONE is going to bring "elements of the Reagan coalition" onto their team, they're going to have to have REAL credentials as a CONSERVATIVE! McCain may represent what the Republican party has become, but he does NOT represent Conservatives in any way, shape, or form! I would agree that Huckabee would make a good running mate for McCain though. IF they were running as traditional Democrats. Unfortunately, what we need is at least a hint of real conservatism! I CANNOT vote for McCain. I see too little difference between him and his buddy Teddy the Lady Killer.

No Amnesty Candidates

No Rudy, No McCain, No Huckabee

Romney and Thompson are saying the right things now, but haven't always. Hunter and Tancredo have been working on this for years on our behalf. Longer than most of you have been alarmed about it, they have been trying to sound the alarm. Choose carefully in the primaries, your future depends on it.

Hillary's Achilles Heel

Hillary is still singing the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform" tune (all the Dems, really), not realizing it is her swan song.

The only issue I have ever seen 75-80% of Americans agree on is stopping illegal aliens. Any GOP candidate that is credible (not Rudy, McCain, or Huckabee) on this issue could win in a landslide.

The biggest problem is the RNC has sold it's soul to the cheap labor express. They are determined to nominate an amnesty candidate, even if it means losing the election. Stupid Party, indeed.

Huckabee Not Rallying the Base
Gov. Huckabee is not rallying the base. He is doing the opposite. He is dividing it. Most of us in this so-called base have more than just social concerns. We are more concerned about the economy and other fiscal issues.

I agree that McCain/Huck would do well on appointing conservative judges, taking care of Iraq and building a fence.

However, we would all go broke watching.

Maybe if the both stay in a Holiday Inn Express

Thompson/Hunter

Fred Thompson is the best conservatives can hope for at this juncture. I have been supporting Duncan Hunter since he announced. If conservatives splinter their votes among Tancredo, Thompson, Hunter, Paul and Romney, we will likely end up with Mikey Huckster or Regularization Rudy. It's time for conservatives to consolidate behind Fred Thompson if we want to have any chance to secure our country. He has the best plan to deal with the illegal aliens. Fred Thompson is the best of the top tier, I hope he chooses Hunter for VP, it would be a dynamite ticket.

galltegfa
Jackson was never governor of FL. He was from TN. Where in the world did you get that?

Doesn't ring my chimes.
I think Sen McCain would be wiser to choose someone like JC Watt or Michael Steele, solidly conservative, unsullied by the current process, and both have youth and strength. Duncan Hunter would also be a good choice.

SEAWOLF@7:34am: Good post. I agree.

A Nightmare!
Mr. Blackwell, you disappoint me. This would be a nightmare.

To begin with, neither McCain or Huckabee are conservatives. The Republican party would be finished.

Both love the illegal alien invasion and would encourage it until American became a third world country. The Nation would be finished.

Horrible scenario!

To Loyal Democrat
Loyal Democrat, your parodies are usually funny, but this one with respect to John McCain is so way off the mark that it is totally disgusting. John McCain did not take bribes. No action was ever taken with respect to John McCain concerning the Keating matter. If anything, the experience made him more open to the idea that campaign finance reform legislation was needed to reduce the influence of money in politics than has been good for him politically.

For John McCain
Let's all keep in mind a few things about John McCain. He is the son and grandson of U.S. Navy Admirals and a naval aviator who is a genuine war hero. He is a pro-life fiscal conservative. He was and is right about what has been needed in Iraq and has steadfastly supported the troops and their mission, even when it has been unpopular. He has pledged to nominate judicial conservatives to the federal bench -- a matter of huge importance to the future of the country. He is the most knowledgeable of any of the candidates in military and national security matters, and he is in Henry Kissinger's estimation also the most knowledgeable of the candidates concerning foreign policy in general. John McCain's books about character and courage are terrific.

When I look at the candidates, I think about who do I want to be Commander in Chief. I do so because I have an older son who is a U.S. Army First Lieutenant (with Ranger tab) who this last October finished a 15-month extended tour of duty in Iraq as an infantry platoon leader a younger son who will be commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marines upon graduation this school year having already passed officer training in Quantico. I cannot imagine any of the Democrats as Commander in Chief. As for the Republicans, John McCain is clearly the best candidate concerning that responsiblity. And remember, John McCain will have two sons in the military if he is the next Commander in Chief because he passed on to his sons the commitment to serve the country in harm's way.

Finally, John McCain can beat Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, who are at bottom anti-military socialists.

Too many negatives to list ...
them all here. So, here's one: La Migra!

McCain's acceptance of a "streamlined path to citizenship", read AMNESTY, was farce worthy of being tarred, feathered and ridden out of town on a rail. H*ll, I might even say let's draw and quarter all scamnesty supporters, but that would be too good for 'em.

I could vote for McCain...
...if the other choice was Clinton or Obama.

It would be another case of "hold nose, pull lever" 'cause I don't really trust the guy.

I'd prefer Ron Paul if he wasn't such a nut case on foreign affairs. At least he's read the Constitution.

good grief

Blackwell is someone I respect (or at least I did until I read this article)

Good grief. What a horror, a McCain Huckabee ticket.

Jim M

That is the most ludicrous ticket I have heard of, Huckabee/McCain.

Having the clown as President and McCain as vice president.

Hint: Vice President is primarily a ceremonial role. Do you think an arrogant know-it-all like John McCain would make a good fit for this position where you need someone with a "pretty face who keeps his mouth shut".

Doesn't sound like a very good fit to me.

seawolf says

"He is called a maverick for a reason folks"

Right. The reason is MARKETING. McCain is a product created by the liberal media so that they can have "their guy" at the top of the ticket in both major parties.

Say What?
The only military expertise McCain has is in being shot down. Beyond that he's just a policy wonk fronting for the military-industrial complex. And that's a job he can far better do in the Senate than in the Oval Office.

seawolf says

"on a number of issues, especially immigration, but as he stated, "I got the message"."

Yes, McCain got the message that he needs to stop pitching his amnesty plan. He has never said he changed his support for it. Probably because he believes in open borders just as much as he always has.

The last specific proposal I read about that he made is that he offered that before we had the amnesty that we would first enforce the border. How would we be assured that the border would be enforced? He would require that the border state governors certify that the border was secure.

Who are those governors?

Schwarzenegger
Napolitano
Bill Richardson
Perry

All of them are open borders supporters. They would sign that the border was secure right now if McCain asked them to.

McCain is an open borders guy. Always has been, always will be. And he's not denying that. The only concessions he's making is that he "gets the message". In other words, he knows the public disagrees with his position. But that doesn't mean he will do anything differently.

He would simply be a "maverick" and push his amnesty, saying "I know the people disagree with me but my duty is to do what I believe is right regardless of how popular it is."

My problem with McCain
Aside from McCain/Feingold, is immigration. We need to secure our borders - can we trust McCain to do that? Aside from that, I like McCain - he's pro-life, a war hero and was right about the surge.

I am worried about Huckabee, though. He may be conservative on social issues, but not on fiscal policies, immigration, etc. I am not a one-issue person - yes, I want a pro-family, pro-life candidate, but I also want one who is conservative on fiscal issues, strong on the war on terror, etc.

Duncan Hunter is my favorite candidate on the issues. Thompson would have been high on my list if he'd been less lackadaisical about running. Of the top tier, Romney seems best right now. But I'd be ok with McCain. I may vote 3rd party if Huckabee is the GOP nominee, though. Another Governor from Arkansas for Pres??? Shades of Bill Clinton run through my head... no way!

No way Jose
There is no way I could support this ticket. McCain could make all the speeches he wants and it will make absolutely no difference to me. Actions speak louder than words and his actions have betrayed us every single time. As for Huckabee, I have the same reservations about him that I had about Bush when he first ran: that he'll say anything to convince he's on our side and then do whatever he damn well pleases.

I would even have reservations for voting for my favorite candidate, Ron Paul, if the ticket was Paul - McCain!

Sorry
Can't trust what McCain has done and obviously will do with respect to illegal immigrants. Can't trust Huckabee in this area, either. I am a Christian and Lord knows I love them dearly, but wearing the name of Jesus on your sleeve doesn't convince me. He knows His and His know Him - not necessarily out loud. I am a Catholic not only in words but in practice. Rudy is not and neither are any of the so-called "Catholic Dems." Far as I'm concerned they have put themselves outside the Church and if you can lie in the small (NOT) things you can lie about anything. That leaves out Hillary. Listing what issues are most important to me, this is the order in which I would pick and choose: (today's list) Romney; Thompson; Hunter; Paul. Any combination of the first three, and Paul if everyone else drops out. In the meantime, PRAY

May the best man win.
Huckabee caters to the eccentric among us when he says there is no such thing as evolution. That’s as arcane a thought as Taliban. I think of myself as a Christian and I have no problem intellectually taking evolution for granted. Not as Darwinism, I don’t think of our species as a fish with legs, but evolution being like a microscope, it can only focus on the beauty in God’s world. There's something about the Huckster that's putting me off.

I took a moment to correct the typographical errors in your post.

To Loyal Democrat
Loyal Democrat, your parodies are usually funny, but this one with respect to Hillary Clinton is so way off the mark that it is totally disgusting. Hillary Clinton did not take bribes. No action was ever taken with respect to Hillary Clinton concerning the cattle futures matter. If anything, the experience made her more open to the idea that campaign finance reform legislation was needed to reduce the ability on non-incumbents to raise money. This has been good for her politically and financially.

Huckster-Bee /McLame PhonyCons
The lib media is pumping both these guys because they are not conservatives. After seven years of a 'Compassionate Conservative' we are looking for someone who will actually advance a conservative agenda in governance and in the judiciary and each of these guys, judged by their past actions, will endlessly accommodate and make deals that step by step lead us into a EuroTrash Mega State.

All the wrong endorsements
Let me get this straight. McCain's campaign for the Republican nomination is said to be revived because he has been endorsed by liberal major daily newspapers and one of the most liberal Democrats in the US Senate?

Is it any wonder that "Republicans don't trust him"?

Why don't we just let the Democrats choose all of our candidates?

What kind of stupidity is this? I thought Blackwell was a conservative.

Get this straight Blackwell. The base of the Republican Party is conservative. And we will never forget (or forgive) "McCain-Feingold" (on this one it was McCain with a whacko liberal Democrat Senator), amnesty for illegals, aka "McCain-Kennedy" (McCain with a despicable ultra-liberal Democrat Senator), civilian trials for Gitmo detainees (McCain sides with entire rabid, BDS left), and the Gang of 7 (McCain finds his true calling, leader of a bunch of gutless RINOs).

The conservative base does not want four more years of McCain stabbing us in the back by negotiated compromises between liberal Republicans in congress and ultra-liberal Democrats in Congress. We want a conservative President who will veto deficit budgets and dumb legislation; who will appoint originalist judges instead of conspiring with liberal Democrats in the Senate to deny qualified conservatives an up-or-down vote; who will recognize the cons of louses like Bill Clinton instead of making their BS into laws like McCain Feingold.

This guy is a POS. It's bad enough that we have to overcome liberal Democrat stupidity, dishonesty, ignorance, arrogance, and ambition to get the right things done in DC. But the only way they can stop us is when they convince useful idiots like McCain, who call themselves Republicans, to stab their own party in the back in return for praise from the left.

The "logic" of conservatives being told we should vote for McCain because a bunch of liberals like him escapes me completely.

Hasn't someone on TH
been reminding us to move away from the liberal wing of the Republican Party? Anyone doubt that IS John McCain? It was also interesting to see the list of border state governors. Very telling. We have a very real gap between what the American people (legal immigrants) want and what our government wants to give us. This is just becomming so sad. There MUST be some way to find common ground but being lied to and manipulated constantly sure makes for uneasy citizenship. What is wrong with Washington?

Now His Bad Points!
McCain Feingold is an unconstitutional depravation of our free speech rights. On this ground McCain is a moderate fascist since he only wants to muzzle free speech 60 days before election.

McCain will give amnesty to 15 Million new Democrats. This will change America into a socialist welfare state. Our economy and prosperity will be destroyed.

McCain is a tax and spend liberal. He was against Bush's tax cuts.

McCain will appoint "moderate" (read liberal) judges to the court.

He has some good points but his negatives would be a disaster.

You gotta be Kidding.....
McCain and the Huckster. Right out of the starting chute you have two (2) big NO's. McCain has his qualities, but one, he's too old and has ticker problems, those don't go away for very long, and two he's the Buttstock who pushed for immigration reform when no one wanted it. He's CFR, big time.

Now Huckster, in the case of most VP's would be safe, but with McCain's health problems, a stroke is next, Huckster would soon be president and that WE will not stand for. The guy's just what he's been labeled, Jimmah Cahtah in vestments of the GOP. Talk about a national disgrace in the making.

Educate yourselves!
All of you talking about "amnesty" have been suckered by the media oversimplifying issues for an audience with a low-attention span. "Amnesty" was not part of the immigration reform bill that McCain advocated; simply a 'possible' path to citizenship for SOME illegals, and it would take between 5 and 7 years for that to happen (if it ever did). The main part of that bill was securing the borders so that the flow of illegal immigrants was stemmed, but that part of it is completely forgotten. My advice to those spewing hatred over McCain's stance is this: educate yourselves on topics before you start talking about them. McCain was one of the few in Congress to realize that SOMETHING needed to be done to stop illegals from flowing into the country, and because of that, he's now being crucified for actually trying to do something about it. Meanwhile, as usual, most of Congress fiddles while Rome burns. I'll take a man of action like McCain any day over the status quo in Washington.

Good Point King Lib
Much as I hate to agree with you, the curious absence of Ann Coulter's column from TH, where she is a regular contributor did attract my attention. I went to her website and read it. It is a completely irrational attack on Huckster-Bee for not being looney enough to reject modern science in favor of mythology and chides him for not being firm enough to use the power of government to rewrite science textbooks to conform to her cracked version of the Bible. Huckster-Bee's candidacy is a disaster for the Republican Party. Concentrating on Bible baloney is a giant turn-off to 90% of the country and takes us away from our strongest issues, issues of governance that actually matter. Coulter is sometimes cogent but is often an embarrassment, this column is the worst I've ever read from her and its absence from TH suggests that I'm not the only one.

Who are these various writers

......who say American when they mean America.

I just read above "American would be finished".

Friends, several of you who are doing this, American is an adjective. It modifies, as in American pie or American citizenship.

America is a noun, a place, a country. I have seen this error so many times, I thought, no, it's just a slip up that any of us could make. Guys and gals, it's not a slip up. It's a major blunder.

Pleeeeeaaaaase don't say American when you mean America. Pretty please. Get your stuff together. If you are going to screw up, don't do it with THAT word.

Vote MOST of congress OUT!
75% or more of them voted to defund the fence that "they" wanted just before the election last year, then they have the NERVE to tell us that there is 100's of miles of it up. LIARS! Only about 12 miles of the double layered fence THEY voted to erect. Sure vote us in, and we will stop the invasion, what Democratic symbols ALL of them are! Sure defund the fence in their omnibus bill, but add tons of pork. One thing they did that should pi$$ all of you off about is the 10 million "emergency funding for attorneys of illegal aliens!" they put in there. SO any Senator running now is nothing but a LIAR!
IF you are against giving amnesty, YOU had BETTER WISE UP, ALL Democratic Pres. wannabes ARE ALL FOR AMNESTY (pathway to citizenship).
Better sign on to http://www.numbersusa.com, and get the TRUE facts!

bigkam, a sucker born every minute......

So you believe all that nonsense you are spewing.??.

You sound like the typical new college educated fools we have to endure in this country. How can you be so ignorant. You think the millions who opposed and still oppose that bill or any one like it are being suckered by the media. The only sucker here is YOU.

That bill is plainly an amnesty bill and if you can't see PAST the words you spout then your education has been for naught. If you are simply too young to have any real life experience then come back in twenty years and we'll maybe listen.

Onceamarine = Alwaysthismoody?
I appreciate your feeling that I'm educated, as you are correct. My point is that most people are not, and therefore stick to simple buzzwords like "amnesty", which is obviously not correct. Now rather than sit here and explain to you why it's not, here's a link that sums it up nice and concisely for you.

RINO-RINO...
McCain/Huckabee...no thanks. I have a hard time believing that conservatives are even looking at these two guys. They may be fine men, but we don't need anymore RINOs in power.

Big Government, Amnesty, higher taxes and growth in Entitlements. That's what we've gotten from the RINOs. We have only to look at the spending bill and the energy bill that was just passed that Bush will sign. A conservative would veto both of those pieces of garbage.

The only choice for conservatives this election is Thompson/Hunter. It doesn't get any better than that.

Okay, one more time, ...
this time with feeling: MONEY IS NOT SPEECH JUST AS BURNING THE FLAG IS NOT SPEECH! I agree with those that condemn McCain-Feingold, but it cannot be fough on free speech grounds. The first ammendment guarantees freedom of SPEECH NOT ACTIONS. As much as some would love for actions to be quasi consider them to be speech, and as lame-brained as some judges who equate the two, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.

Excuse me for raising my voice, but sometimes emphasis is needed to make a point. GET IT!

Challenge
To all of those who are critical of John McCain (regardless of his virtues I detail at 10:26 AM) because of immigration (never mind that he says he gets it, that law enforcement comes first) or because of campaign finance reform (never mind that it is an issue in the hands of the U.S. Supreme Court), what makes you think that you will be better off with Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama on such issues? Because that may effectively be the choice.

Do You Want To Keep Your Country?

We have run out of time on the illegal alien inundation. We either stop it now or we lose our country. Rudy, McCain, Huckabee won't do it. Rudy and McCain think it's impossible to enforce our laws. I want someone who doesn't.

The GOP cedes their best issues by running Rudy. He agrees with Hillary on abortion, gays, guns, and amnesty. I want someone who doesn't.

America is worth saving. Vote conservative.

Actually she was attacking his religious credentials hoping to erode support from the evangelicals. And her distain for Darwinism has long been known, especially since she spent the better part of an entire book attacking it.

John McCain is a good guy,
but another elite from either party is not going to be good for America. The two parties are out of control, imprisoned by their own desire for power. They have totally manipulated the election process to secure ever more power, and the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people are soundbites brought out at the appropriate times.

We have been duped into believing that we have no other choice, nowhere else to go by the DEM/GOP/MSM propaganda machines that tell us this. Promoting a lie over and over until it becomes accepted as true is an old tactic, but the elites have no problem doing that. Only "they" are capable, have wisdom and experience we are told. We must vote for one of them, the lesser of two evils.

It is time to reject this false premise and reassert our authority as the rightul owners of this nation. In order to get the attention of the elites, we should deny them that which they desire above all, the Presidency. It is the only way!

Another elite as President will only strengthen their hold on power and futher convince them of their invulnerability. It will give us more big govt., less personal freedoms, and more influence of the internationalists.

I urge all to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. It is the one place to find some common sense in a partisan Washington. Check out the site, why not? The elites have stolen our birthright, mortgaged the future we are passing on to our kids, and indeed, hijacked America for their own personal agendas.

Can we allow this corruption to continue? Are we ever going to demand performance and accountability? Haven't we had enough of the elites? When is it going to be time to reclaim that which has been taken from us? We all need to answer these questions, then summon up the guts and faith to do something different. Give it some thought. Thanks, Joe

I'll vote Mrs. Clinton before McCain, who supports demographic revolution in America. Better to have someone as president who is up front about hating you instead of someone who pretends to be on your side.

To justpaul re 10:58 AM Post
What universe are you operating in? You disparage John McCain as someboody who was shot down and otherwise just a front for policy wonks.

Excuse me, John McCain showed his military expertise by the test case of Iraq. Years ago, he was constantly argued that the Rumsfeld-Casey minimalist "light footprint" strategy was not working in Iraq and that more boots on the ground were needed. John McCain called for the surge before President Bush went to it after the electoral shock of 2006, and John McCain steadfastly supported the surge when it was not known that it would be the success it has become.

As for being shot down, yes, John McCain, after completing a bombing run on a power plant in Hanoi, was shot down by a surface-to-air missle. To be in that situation, McCain had to be a naval jet pilot who was at war. It's called courage. Your problem?

Beware NY Times
The New York Times, fresh off of cutting up Rudi, no doubt would like to cut up McCain because the NY Times does understand that McCain can beat Hillary. So readers beware. Readers should be anyway when it comes to the Ny Times.

For FROG
Please read my comments above re: McCain-Feingold.

McCain-Feingold evolved as follows.

A dishonest Prez, Bill Clinton, lies, cheats, and sells out the country to raise campaign cash.

When he gets caught, instead of facing the music, he gets a pass from the lib media by whining that it's not his fault; the campaign laws made him to cheat because they are "unfair". Clinton's definition of "unfair" is anything that results in the general public sending more support (in this case in the form of money) to the Republicans than to him, a Democrat.

Along comes John McCain, sucking around for positive press coverage to further his Presidential ambitions, and the next thing you know we are passing McCain-Feingold instead of prosecuting two criminals; Bill Clinton and Al Gore.

McCain-Feingold has resulted in more dirty money in politics than ever. It is a disaster for the GOP and a disaster for the US.

And McCain is just as responsible for it whether it meets your criteria for constitutionality or not.

Ouch! King Lib

That hurts. I'm a Rudy-backer. According to most of the true Coulterites (many of whom post on this website) that makes me a hard-core commie. I dont agree; on issues of governance Rudy is actually the most conservative candidate and the only one who has demonstrated an ability to move entrenched liberal institutions to the right. Even though he didnt turn NYC into Oklahoma City he effected changes that were nothing short of miraculous. McLame and Huckster-Bee, in different ways, have taken real actions that are in opposition to conservative values and have never taken any controversial stands in support of any conservative cause, as Rudy did when he fought the public-funded display of anti-Christian art.

Re: Joe Oliva
Checked out your site, and I will say it is worthwhile. I do disagree with you on McCain though. If there is one candidate out there who has proven to be above the major partisanship in Washington, it has been McCain. Coming from someone who is tired of all the partisanship in the capital (and the rest of America, I might add), I'm really looking for a president who can get things done for a change. I truly believe McCain can be that guy.

skep41
Whether "90%" of the country doesn't ascribe to "Bible baloney" or not misses the point of Coulter's column.

Coulter is a religious conservative. And she is pointing out that if Huckabee;'s base is religious, especially evanglical, he does his base a disservice by 'denying' Creationism in favor of condoning evolution.

In addition, Huckabee is the perfect VP for a RINO phony like McCain. He wants to benefit from the conservative reputation of an evanglical, yet his record, like McCain's, is replete with betrayals of conservatives and conservatism.

He raised taxes as Guv. He also pushed for in-state tuition for the children of illegals. Now we hear he's fine with evolution but no creationism (or, its PC moniker, Intelligent Design) being taught in public schools. At the Iowa debate he raised his hand when asked if he believes in man-made global warming.

So on what issues is he reliably conservative? I thought he claimed to be distinct from the established, top tier, RINO elites (Mitt, Rudy, and McCain). Yet the more we learn about this guy the more he looks like exactly one of them.

The bottom line is that we cons continue to gety screwed in this campaign. The lib media is shoving these RINOs at us while the biggest argument against the true conservatives in the race remains "He can't win".

The left media is once again doing its work to keep the true conservatives from gaining the White House by repeatedly producing polls that show only RINOs are getting double digit support.

bigkam

Many of us went to college. Some of us had an academic scholarship. My point is very simple. Not that you did or didn't. But that you have a bad education, very MSM and probably very PC.

I will not take the next five pages of this column to explain to you what you still would not understand, an amnesty bill.

This one was Kennedy's third amnesty bill in 39 years and his worst and most belligerent one. The effect is what counts, not the pretty words which were carefully chosen to try and cover up what was actually in this AMNESTY bill.

As I told you, if you do not understand what the bill was, it's your poor education or your inexperience or both. I stand by those words.

The only other explanation is that you deliberately and with malice aforethought mis-characterize the bill. Which of the three is it.??.

WiseOne
I was injudicious in my use of 'Bible baloney'. I only meant that it is a ridiculous political issue. The fact that Huckster-Bee didnt see fit to commit political suicide in Arkansas, a Bible Belt state, by zealously trying to put the most extreme version of Creationism into public school textbooks only shows that he recognized a practical reality and didnt waste his political capital on an issue that had very little effect on the lives of his constituents. This religious issue has benifited Huckster-Bee at the moment but most average people do not want to mix politics and religion. The libs know this and are pumping this 'debate' to scare independants and moderates away from the Republicans.

is this really...
the best the GOP can come up with?

McCain: McCain/Feingold (anti-First Amendment), no friend of the Second Amendment and pro-amnesty.

The Huckster: tax-and-spender, clemency granter/pardoner for violent thugs who "find Jesus" in prison, and amnesty advocate.

Sounds like Presidente and Vice Presidente. Maybe they should move south for this "winning" ticket.

How the GOP has fallen that we're looking at these 2 big-government faux-Repubs as serious contenders. What a disgrace.

Re: Once A Marine
I stand by my argument. If you simply characterize as an amnesty bill, then you're being way too simple-minded on the issue. If you checked out the link I posted, it would have explained as much. Immigration is still an unsolved issue in America, and rather than crucifying those that actually tried to compromise and fix the situation, I'll applaud them for their effort. As it stands now, the situation continues to grow worse, and there will be no comprehensive legislation passed on the subject for years to come. To me, that's much, much worse than the bill in question.

bigcam

Bigcam:

When you say McCain is "above the partisanship", well we all know what that means.

What you mean is he simply stands with the Democrats.

That's what the media calls being "above partisanship".

Those Republicans with the courage to simply throw out conservative principles such as fiscal responsibility and honoring the rule of law, and simply wallowing in the same trough with the Democrats.

bigkam

Some of us who think McCain's immigration policy would be a nation destroying policy are pretty darn well informed on the issue.

I happen to have written a book on the matter. It is titled "Immigration Politics" and you can verify that it exists by searching on Amazon or whatever.

And so I have done a good deal of study on this.

And McCain's immigration plan is an absolute horror.

Those who haven't studied the issue have a pretty good way to verify that much more easily, though.

All they need to do is consider the fact that Ted Kennedy signed onto that same plan.

I rest my case.

"above partisanship"

Note that "above partisanship" is what the media like to say about Arnold Schwarzenegger.

He happens to be formally called a "Republican" because he used to be one and it happened to be convenient to run as one when the window of opportunity was open.

But on the big issues, Schwarzenegger sides with the DEMOCRATS, and AGAINST the REPUBLICANS.

So in my view, a more precise term for "above partisanship" is

"UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER".

Another campaign alliance emerges
I did not know Ken Blackwell was on John McCain's campaign committee. It now appears that he is. How else can we explain his touting for the TOP of the ticket a candidate currently polling at 14% of the Republican vote nationally, for the BOTTOM of the ticket one who is currently polling at 20%?

We're a lot more likely to see a Huckabee/McCain ticket than a McCain/Huckabee ticket. But we're not likely to see either. Huck is a southern, Christian moderate. If he's nominated, he'll need to court the conservatives, and we should expect it to be a northeastern or western conservative, not a southern one. So, probably not McCain, and probably not any of the other candidates, unless we're heading into the convention without a candidate chosen and the VP slot is part of a concession deal. More likely someone like Pat Toomey from PA, or... hmmm... Ken Blackwell from Ohio?

(Unrelated to this topic, please visit my political blog, "Plumb Bob Blog: Squaring the Culture," at http://www.plumbbobblog.com. Thanks.)

No.
I like McCAin. I DO NOT LIKE Huckabee. He's lied on several occassions, andhates Mormons, of which I am one. I think McCain, should he get the mon should pick Romney or Huntsman. Otherwise, I'll sit this one out. Jimmy Carter was Southern Baptist. Enough said.

part 2
Now, supposedly the idea is "we'll legalize those who are here but henceforth crack down on people who come here illegally in the future."

That was the same broken promise of the 1986 amnesty. And the 2007 bill was even worse than the 1986 amnesty. The 1986 bill said that you had to at least have been in the country for something like 5 years. The 2007 bill put the cutoff at something like Jan 1 2007, in other words, anyone who came here before this year would get amnesty.

If you sincerely think "comprehensive" reform would fix the illegal immigration problem I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Now, it is true, if you simply erase all the immmigration laws, then there will be no more illegal immigration. That's what the most brazen open borders advocates propose. The only problem is that although you would not have any more illegal immigration, you would no longer have a nation, and you would no longer have an economy.

McCain
says that "he's heard us" on the illegal alien issue. All that means to me is that he'll secure the border first, then grant amnesty to 15million illegal aliens. Also, I wouldn't trust his definition of "Secure the Border". His position has changed one bit.

His support of the Amnesty Bill was an attempt to appeal to the middle left of the country in order to add a voting base for his presidential run. While I respect his service and patriotism, he's a politician in every sense of the word. He'll make any kind of deal to further his career.

HUCKABEE LIED ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS?
IF TRUE, THIS IS A BOMBSHELL THAT COULD SINK HUCKABEE:

Huckabee claimed he lost 110 lbs. in one year through diet and exercise. He even wrote a book about it, touting himself as a weight loss expert. But a new report from a medical doctor says Huckabee is probably telling a BIG LIE. Click here to see the doctor's research:

McCain was a war hero, but as of late on illegals
has sold out the country he fought for.

Many of the politicians who want the illegals here are being paid off by lobbyists and do not want the illegals to go home, McCain being one of the WORST....who would vote for either one is clearly out of his mind.....

I trust bot_feeder's reply gives you some cue that the issue is far bigger than you are capable of comprehending. If you are through being childish, maybe it's time for you to spend a little more time reading and less time and effort trying to inform others. You need to learn, not preach.

That bill would have enabled the illegal migrants, they are not immigrants, and given them an easy and quick road to residence and citizenship. They deserve neither. It **TALKS** about shutting the border to any more than the 15 to 20 million who are already here illegally. TALKS, no action could be expected from those chumps in congress who thought up this entire ridiculous excuse for a bill. It solves only the problem of illegality faced by the usurpers who hopped, skipped and jumped over the border. It solves nothing and exacerbates the problem for our own people.

Now I have spent a major portion of my life in Latin America. I am in Latin America just as I write these words. My Spanish is superior to most of those border jumpers. My family, past and present, is Latin. I know a number of the border hoppers and am around hundreds more. I also know my country and what it needs and doesn't need.

Any more "questions" whipper snapper??.

Huck not running for Prez of Republicans
"He doesn't rally the base." "He is soft on ......"

No WONDER I grew to hate politics. I only came back to politics when I found out about Huckabee. What a breath of fresh air!

If he does not win the nomination, I guarantee you that I--and tons of other voters--will not vote for Romney or Giuliani. Period.

As a Christian, I will not be used by elites in my party and then thrown aside when politically expedient to do so. This is not the product of temporal ranting; I may seriously consider a third-party candidate if Huck doesn't win the nomination...or I may not vote altogether.

For all you Republicans out there who loathe us Christians among you, how far do you think this party will go without us? Food for thought.

To PlumbBob
Ken Blackwell has written the article because he genuinely respects John McCain and understands, unlike so many posters here, that John McCain is a conservative on most issues and on some issues the best conservative.

Garontee
I guarantee all the posters on this thread that President John McCain, to the delight of the mainstream media and big business, will cobble together a coalition of Democrats and Republicans beholdened either to McCain(Miss Lindsay Graham) or big business(Richard Lugar) and pass what was essentially the Kennedy-McCain-Bush-Kyl immigration amnesty act. Mark my words. McCain will relish his "Profile in Courage".

Romney/Thompson
I like Romney for President with Thompson as his running mate. For me the most important issues are that the candidates are (presently and hopefully permanently) anti-abortion, pro-family (meaning marriage between 1 man and 1 woman), not anti-military, and proudly anti-illegal immigration with the will to do something about it including deporting all illegal immigrants when they are arrested for anything and no federal funds for sanctuary cities. Romney and Thompson seem to be the closest match to what I care about.

Libertee
I don't know how he lost weight, but what he said on the news here at the time, was that he had been diagnosed with diabetes, and had to lose weight or die.

Oh yeah, he has been endorsed by the National Education Assn. A democrat union. Does that tell you anything!??

Daniel

I believe you voted for Jimmah Cahtah didn't you.

You didn't. You were too young then. Well, Huckeberry is another Huckster like Jimmah. His Christianity stops at the front door of his house.

Why do you insist upon being fooled by this clown of a man.??.

He is an incompetent, only far more dangerous than Jimmah. Jimmah's mother was a known socialist all her life. Jimmah went into the navy and got an education, but never learned past his mothuh's lips.

Those conservative Christians who do not flock to Huckleberry see the emperor has no clothes. Don't let your enthusiasm blind you to his absence of clothes. He is a flaming liberal. That is what we do not accept, and you shouldn't either.

Oh, by the way, Daniel.....

...tons of us will support someone not of our choice, but I won't support McCain or Huckster. Do you think there are not tons of us too.??.

America would not support Mr Huckleberry. His vote would not top 35% of the total general electorate if he were the GOP candidate, thank heavens.

If the GOP candidate cannot meet the minimal standard of protecting my liberties as outlined in the Big Mick pledges below, then they offer me NOTHING in alternative to Hillybama. I will tolerate this slow death march of compromise toward Socialism no longer. If there IS no substantive difference ON ALL the key issues regarding my Sacred Liberties then there is no benefit to voting for a CINO and no loss in voting for Hillybama. Indeed it seems reasonable to desire to ACCELERATE the slide into the Socialist Abyss if (as has been the argument for TOO LONG now) the only proffered alternative is to go there more slowly.

The First Candidate (other than Mitt) who signs my pledge, gets my vote. If no one does, or the GOPers nominate a Non-pledge Candidate, then I vote for Hillybama in the Confident Expectation she will shove us the last inches into Socialism and in the HOPE THAT will finally ignite the long needed American Revolution Part 3.
Voting for a half-commiequeer (my sematically correct term for the "terminological inexactitude" "liberal) buys me only an prolongation of the torture making the AmRev3 less likely. To hell with that.

WHERE IS COULTER! The pledge
WIN the war for survival against the sandnazis on all fronts.
DEFEND our southern border against the reconquista invasion.
RESTORE Constitutionalism by appointing ONLY from a Consensus list of Top Ten Most Strict Constructionist Justices.
REDUCE the size of the Fed Gov in real absolute terms not mere slowed growth 3% each year of their admin
SECURE my Sacred Franchise by an Iron Clad Fraud proof voter ID REgistration and Polling system

None of these are negotiable or marginal. All or nothing, no equivocations in public and in writing or as logic dictates I vote for Hillybama.

McCaniac, Huck and Julieannie fail the 2nd. Paul fails the first. I won't vote for Mitt because neither he nor his supporters have made an absolutely clean and open revelation on his Mormon Heterodoxy. If he won't or can't on THAT I can't trust him even if he signed the pledge

McCain is no RINO and he's no CINO
he's a conservative (in my book) and a breath of fresh air, even though he's been around. When he goes to Iowa and tells them we need to reduce ethanol subsidies, he gets my respect and my support. He's the best candidate in either party on one of the most important issues, fiscal discipline (also gotta like Thompson's position on social security). How about a McCain / Thompson ticket?

I'm no pollster but I see them. McCain is doing the best of any Republican in the "head to heads". I'd be proud to have him as my President.

So with a Dem we are a breath away from Venezuela, and with the top tier Reps we are just (barely) slowing the slide. Got it.

There is always Fred Thompson!

Here is a little Christmas present for you, it is funny and is very short:

I can't fathom the McCain love
John McCain showed his genuine character during the 2000 primary race. He was the subject of some hard-ball shots from some rotten politicians in South Carolina (and also the source of a few of those), and he whined like a 10-year-old schoolgirl. It was disgusting.

None of the men who shared a billet with him in the Hanoi Hilton are supporting his candidacy.

He was a "Reverse Ace" in the military -- he LOST 5 aircraft, no mark of honor.

A friend of my family happens to work on Sen Russ Feingold's staff; he won't trust McCain farther than he can throw him. He says he's duplicitous.

From where I sit, McCain looks like a high over-achiever -- a guy who's driven by his demons to achieve more and more and more, and it's still never enough. Guys like that are dangerous when they get power; they're unconsciously more committed to their ego than to their nation or their Constitution. There have been two other Presidents in my lifetime with the same disease, Richard Nixon and William Clinton. I need say no more.

The only way I will ever cast a vote for that man, McCain, is if his opponent is satan (which is a distinct possibility this year). Aside from that, if McCain heads the ticket, I think I might just stay home.

McCain blocked conservative judges
Unpardonable sin there, John!

Fred Thompson worked hard to get Supreme Court Justice Roberts confirmed, and also voted to affirm Dennis W Shed. Libs were fearing for Roe!

Give yourself a gift this Christmas. Nominate Fred Thompson, and watch him eat Hillary's lunch in the new year.

Huckabee's border plan is mine, too
Anybody who claims I'm a supporter of amnesty is full of crap.

Huckabee's comments on illegal immigration are identical to my own:

We have to seal the border. We have to enforce immigration laws.

Simultaneously, we have to fix the completely dysfunctional national machinery for citizenship and work permits. He's correct, it should take a couple of weeks, not 5 years.

That's not amnesty.

Personally, I'm not supporting Huckabee's candidacy. But to claim he's for amnesty is simply inaccurate.

This was a joke column, right???
Dearest Mr.Blackwell,

Do you really think for one moment that mcstain is truely on the side of us gun owners?? Don't think so. Not by his actions. Do you really think he on side of those who know what tax cuts do for the economy?? Not by his actions. First amendment?? Not by his actions. For a secure border and an illimination of illegal immagration?? Not by his actions.

Of course,Jonny boy will say that tax cuts do indeed work. NOW

Of course, Jonny boy is for enforcement first when it concerns illegal immigration. NOW

Of course, he is a big supporter of the 2nd amendment, NOW.

Of course, he sees some problems with mccain/fiengold, NOW.

Of course, our recall of the good senator was put to the side after 9/11. Why, I don't know, I guess because he was a hero for spending time at the Hanoi Hilton.

There are good things about mccain, but I'm never going to vote for the little Pr*ck, even if it means we get Hillary. So wake up RNC, don't buy into Mccain's load of cow flop. He's flipped more than Rudi, Mit or even Jon Kerry.

Houstonrepup
You really, realyy, REALLY need to look at all of John McCain. He boarders on being a real snake in the grass. He is conservative here and there, but you need to look a little deeper.
The Keating 5, should have been the Keating 6, some how jonny slipped out of that noose.

Thompson will eat her lunch
Yes,

Fred Thompson is Ronald Reagan, minus Sandra Day O'Conner and amnesty.

He will take it slow, but Hillary will be demolished by this man.

Your other options are Gang-of13-Guy, Mr Plastic Fantastic, and nice guy from Arkansas.

Tancredo sys it all about these two
Read and weep Huckster & McCain

Rep. Tom Tancredo dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination Thursday and endorsed rival Mitt Romney.

Tancredo, a five-term congressman from Colorado, had based his campaign on fighting illegal immigration and has run television ads that link lax border control to terrorist attacks, rape and other crimes. He has consistently polled at the bottom of the nine-person Republican field.

He announced his withdrawal two weeks before Iowa begins the presidential nominating process with the precinct caucuses.

Tancredo, who has consistently polled at the bottom of the nine-man Republican field, said he decided to drop out in part because of concern that his presence could split the vote for other candidates who have taken a hard line on immigration, helping those who would take a less restrictive approach.

"I fear remaining in this race, one which I cannot win, would contribute to the nomination of one of these candidates," he said.

Tancredo identified Mike Huckabee and John McCain as two Republican candidates whose records indicate they wouldn't be tough enough on immigration.

"We have done too much, we have come too far for me to allow that to happen," Tancredo said.

Huckabee/McCain Amnsty
Huckabee/McCain Amnesty

My personal gut feeling and observation is that the pole is a paper pole, motivated by the media, and to distress Mitt Romney’s numbers.

Mitt is the only one who represents change in Washington and it just appears that a pressure is coming from politically driven preservation of the status quo.

Politics may be depend on relationships, and that meaning ethical and universally benefiting relationships. The record of unethical practices are ignored by the press, when it is the truth and invent them when it is not. Mike and Mc Cain are to me only human firewalls to hinder Mitt Romney, that will allow Giuliani to re-surge.

This is all about disclosure of candidate’s intent which have been hidden until scrutinized heavily. Well let the show go on, and may the best candidate, prove worth and faithful in all accounts. Secularism must take its place alone with all other religious faiths. It is a philosophy and a belief system that has undermined every advanced civilization on the earth. It is cunning and aggressively dishonest and corrupt, hidden behind secret oaths, the masters of mayhem.

If the American people cannot see how they are being played like a fiddle, running up and down the scales, and back and forth because of uncertainty, because of ignorance, because of fear in the absence of faith. This is not the way to make thy right choice, that is the way to lose our freedom of choice. As long as we allow our choices to be determined by the media, or a public figure having invested interests we are lead by the devil, of greed, and corruption. Until we know, and know that we know we know, within ourselves we are blown about by every wind of doctrine.

==WANTED FOREVER, A MOTHER AND A FATHER FOR CHILDREN==

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND ALL YOUR LOVED ONES

GOD BLESS US ALL TO DISCERN, THAT WE MAY CHOOSE THE BEST MAN TO LEAD THIS NATION UNDER GOD FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA.

Too bad it's not a spicey poll!

McCain + JC Watts =
UNSTOPPABLE in '08

Huckster is no Conservative
Mike Huckabee was regarded by fellow Republican governors as a compulsive tax increaser and spender. He increased the Arkansas tax burden by 47 percent, boosting the levies on gasoline and cigarettes. The Arkansas Leader.com editorialized that Mike Huckabee raised more taxes in 10 years in office than Bill Clinton did in his 12 years.

The National Education Association endorses any candidate who raises taxes and opposes school choice – thus they endorse Mike Huckabee.

Huckabee “broadly repudiates core Republican policies such as free trade, low taxes, the essential legitimacy of America’s corporate entities and the market system allocating wealth and opportunity,” according to George Will.

The Arkansas Ethics Commission held proceedings 20 times on the former governor. During his tenure, Huckabee accepted 314 gifts valued overall at more than $150,000, according to documents filed with the Arkansas secretary of state's office. (He accepted 187 gifts in his first three years as governor but was not required to report their value.)

Two months after taking office, Huckabee stunned the state by saying he questioned rapist Wayne DuMond's guilt and that it was his intention to free the rapist, DuMond murdered a women in Illinois after Huckabee set him free

He joined the Democratic chorus in indicting President Bush for his "arrogant bunker mentality." Is he in the right party?

Huck’s use of the “Christian Leader” title and the Cross in his ads and his attempt to denigrate Mitt Romney’s religion is a thinly-veiled attempt to impose a religious test in violation of Article Six of the Constitution

The Huckster was the keynote speaker at an anti-Mormon conference in Salt Lake City. And he knows nothing about Mormons? And the "Christian Leader" doesn't want to release his sermons?

Mike fails on so many levels as a true conservative.

The moniker "Huckster" is well-earned.

Bot
You have it so right!!!!
This man is a fake Conservative, that demolished the conservative base in Arkansas.

A vote for him is a vote for a flaming liberal!!

Great ticket...for the Libertarians
Ken, what are you SMOKING?!? The 2 worst alleged Repubs in the race?!

Huckabee only just emerged from behind Guiliani & Romney, & already we hear the truth about him in spite of the pop media fanfare & their (fake) horror that he might get the nod.

As to McCain...I ask once more, why are we still even talking about him at all? He is a blight on the GOP & serves no purpose exc to use up political oxygen that otherwise might go to Fred or Ron. Even if he were the perfect candidate, & he's far from that, "McCain-Feingold" alone ought to permanently disqualify him from consideration by conservatives. If you can't even uphold the 1st Amendment... Not only the principle, but the fact such recent victories as conservatism has had were due to grass-roots COMMUNICATIONS.

Not buying the theory that McCain is the only suitable wartime POTUS, or even that the war in Iraq or "on terror" is the sole consideration. He'd flush everything we're supposedly fighting for down the toilet, anyway.

HEL-LO?! The reason "some..just don't trust him" is that he has been 180 degrees backwards on almost every important issue. The GOP base rejects him; the established pop media keep buoying him back up...it's called A CLUE.

If John&Mike are the ticket, the GOP goes the way of the Whigs. That would confirm it is simply the "Democrat Lite" wing of the single institutional political party of the US, standing for everything the Demmies do, but less. For a real alternative, go elsewhere.
